Vi starter høsten med et smell og en feiring av en gigant: Terje Rypdal – 70! 25. og 26. august feirer Terje Rypdal sitt runde år med to forrykende kvelder på Nasjonal jazzscene med gjester og helt nytt band. Med seg fra Elephant9 har han Nicolai Eilertsen og Ståle Storløkken, som grunnfjell hører du jazzlegende og trommeslager Pål Thowsen, «..den musikeren i Norge som spiller som Tony Williams», som Rypdal selv sier. Disse fire er Terje Rypdal Conspiracy, lørdagsgroovende og herlige, som med utgangspunkt i eldre materiale, hovedsakelig fra Chasers- og Odyssey-perioden, revitaliserer historien til noe nytt, og starten på en ny æra. Det er all grunn til å glede seg til en inspirert Rypdal som leker med historien sammen med en fritenkende generasjon hardtfunkende musikere. Velkommen på fest! To see Keith Emerson's introduction and excerpts of Trilogy and Hoedown, go here: http://youtu.be/x7qujZpMHbA Rachel decided to play Tarkus near the end of what had been quite an eventful day, as you might well imagine! The audio was recorded on a Zoom H4 digital recorder. Video was shot using two cameras - a Zoom Q3HD and a Canon Rebel T3i. Good thing I had both cameras running, as 4 1/2 minutes into the piece, the Zoom video camera's memory was full and I had to switch to a second memory card. Then around 12 minutes in the battery in the Canon died and I had to put in a new battery! Made for some fun times editing it all together, but thank goodness the audio track was constant! This took place at the home of Gene Stopp, and Rachel is playing Gene's Hammond C3 running through a pair of Leslie speakers, and of course Keith Emerson's "Beast," the most famous synthesizer in the world. I wish youtube could convey the power of those two instruments in that room on that day - the sound was incredible! MATTEO MANCUSO La prima edizione di Experimental Vim si conclude con un appuntamento imperdibile live da uno dei luoghi simbolo dell’Umbria, piazza del Duomo a Spoleto. Protagonista è il giovanissimo e fenomenale chitarrista palermitano Matteo Mancuso, acclamato dalla critica e osannato da musicisti di fama mondiale che lo confermano come uno dei migliori finger-picker contemporanei. Bill Lee weiß all das aus dem eigenen Erleben, weil er auf „Peace Of Mind“, dem zweiten Album des Hochgelobten, Bass gespielt hat. Simon Oslender ist tatsächlich erst Mitte 20, und er spielt sich kundig mit individuellem Profil durch Jazz, Funk, Soul und Pop. An der Hammondorgel, als Keyboarder und als Pianist am Flügel. Der gebürtige Aachener gilt als „rising star“ der europäischen Jazzszene, trat unter anderem schon mit Randy Brecker, Nils Landgren und Candy Dulfer auf und spielt aktuell in der Band seines Mentors Wolfgang Haffner; außerdem tritt er live zusammen mit Bill Evans & The Spy Killers auf. Bei den Leverkusener Jazztagen 2022 ist Simon Oslender mit seinem eigenen Trio am Start. „Das Trio ist schon die Formation, in der ich mich am wohlsten fühle. Im Trio hast du genug Leute, um alle möglichen Klangfarben und Stimmungen hinzubekommen.
