Letter from the President of MIT
("I've been driving all night, my hands wet on the wheel." Radar had been a classic metaphor for the artifact and activity around knowledge of the prior century. AI appeared to yield to CAD like a tat and the dotcom period featured literature around a formalized Design Information Space combining mathematics, computation, visualization, and databases. That included detection, diagnostics, decisions, discussions, etc. TIS was a sort of successor for the systems on the ground that were not part of the web or cloud yet and had to tolerate a lot of differing positions in R&D. Industry is a heavyweight among the sectors again. And perspectives vary by continent. If you had to pick a domain name for this time, what might it be?)
