Official Jailed In Las Vegas Journalist Killing Due In Court The Washington Post
Official Jailed In Las Vegas Journalist Killing Due In Court – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/official-jailed-in-las-vegas-journalist-killing-due-in-court-the-washington-post/
LAS VEGAS — A local elected official is due to face a judge on a murder charge Tuesday in the stabbing death of a Las Vegas investigative journalist who wrote articles critical of him and his managerial conduct.
Robert Richard Telles, the Clark County public administrator, has remained jailed without bail since his Sept. 7 arrest in the Sept. 2 slaying of veteran Las Vegas Review-Journal staff writer Jeff German.
A criminal complaint accuses Telles of “lying in wait” for German, 69, who prosecutors say was stabbed seven times. German lived alone, and his body was found the following day. The Clark County coroner ruled his death was a homicide.
Telles, 45, was arrested after police asked for help during the Labor Day weekend to identify a person seen wearing an orange work shirt and a wide-brim straw hat toting a shoulder bag and walking toward German’s home the morning of Sept. 2. Police also released images of a distinctive SUV seen near German’s home, driven by a person wearing an orange shirt.
A Review-Journal photographer snapped photos Sept. 6 of Telles washing the same type of vehicle in his driveway.
Police said Telles shut off his cellphone and waited in a vehicle outside German’s home until the attack. It was characterized as a planned response to articles that German wrote about “turmoil and internal dissension” in the county office that handles assets of people who die without a will or family contacts.
Telles lost his primary bid for reelection in June after articles in May aired claims of administrative bullying, favoritism and Telles’ relationship with a subordinate staffer. County lawmakers appointed a consultant to address complaints about leadership in his office.
German was widely respected for his tenacity, and his colleagues said he was working on follow-up reports about Telles and the public administrator’s office when he died.
“The published articles … ruined (Telles’) political career, likely his marriage, and this was him lashing out at the cause,” Chief Deputy Clark County District Attorney Richard Scow told a judge on Sept. 8.
That judge, Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Elana Lee Graham, called the police report detailing the attack “chilling” and said it described German “fighting for his life.” She spoke of apparent defense wounds on German’s arms and said DNA believed to be from Telles was found under German’s fingernails.
Police said a search warrant turned up items at Telles’ home including blood-stained shoes and a straw hat that had been cut into pieces. Authorities said they did not immediately find the weapon used to kill German.
Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, a Republican running for governor in November, said investigators also obtained security video that might show the attack.
The Nevada Press Association has announced that German will be inducted this Saturday into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame.
German joined the Review-Journal in 2010 after more than two decades at the rival Las Vegas Sun, where he was a columnist and reporter covering courts, politics, labor, government and organized crime.
Telles grew up in El Paso, Texas, and lived in Colorado before moving to Las Vegas. He worked as a heating and air conditioning technician and graduated in 2014 from law school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He practiced probate and estate law before he was elected public administrator in 2018, replacing a three-term predecessor.
The Review-Journal reported that in El Paso, Telles’ late grandfather, Richard Telles, served as city clerk, school board trustee and county commissioner. A grand-uncle, Raymond L. Telles Jr., was the city’s first Mexican-American mayor and was appointed by President John F. Kennedy as ambassador to Costa Rica and by President Lyndon B. Johnson as chairman of the U.S.-Mexican Border Commission.
Telles’ father, Raymond R. Telles, was elected to two terms on the El Paso City Council but lost a bid for mayor. He later gave up his law license and avoided prison after pleading guilty in a federal conspiracy and wire fraud case.
Court and police records show that Robert Telles was arrested in Las Vegas in February 2020 after his wife called 911. He was accused of grabbing her in a “‘bear-hug’ position” and of resisting efforts by two police officers to handcuff him. During his arrest, Telles was recorded on police body-worn cameras acknowledging that he had been drinking alcohol and repeatedly identifying himself as a public official.
The case was dismissed and closed in March 2021 after Telles paid a $418 fine, attended counseling and stayed out of trouble.
His term in office expires Dec. 31, but Clark County officials said he is suspended and has been banned from county offices or property pending a review of his position as an elected official.
Msians Prefer Thailand To Langkawi For Vacation & 1 Of The Reasons Is CHEAP Street Food! WORLD OF BUZZ
M’sians Prefer Thailand To Langkawi For Vacation & 1 Of The Reasons Is… CHEAP Street Food! – WORLD OF BUZZ https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/msians-prefer-thailand-to-langkawi-for-vacation-1-of-the-reasons-is-cheap-street-food-world-of-buzz/
With the transition into endemicity, most of us have started or at least planned for the long overdue vacations. Just recently, it was reported that most Malaysians opt for Thailand as their preferred destination, instead of domestic travel.
Facebook page Himpunan Cerita Lawak shared an image of Thai street food yesterday (September 19) as a response to one of the reasons why many Malaysians tend to visit Thailand for vacation.
“Cheap street food. One of the reasons why we prefer Thailand to Langkawi,” the caption said.
Those who have visited different parts of Thailand will agree that this shopping heaven is filled with tasty and cheap street food almost everywhere. It didn’t take long for fellow Malaysians, especially those who have stepped foot in Thailand to express why they think travelling to Thailand is a far better idea than travelling within the country.
“The vacation costs in Thailand are far cheaper than in Malaysia, not to mention the folks in Thailand are nice.”
A user expressed her intention to visit Sabah/Sarawak but changed her mind when the flight ticket was over her budget.
“RM4,000 – RM5,000 for 6 people, excluding the accommodation. And they tend to increase the price during school holidays. How do we travel within Malaysia?”
Another user shared the meal he had in Thailand with his family which cost him around 2300 Baht (approximately) RM283.
“In Langkawi, this meal would’ve cost you the price of a motorcycle.”
In the meantime, a netizen sarcastically told others that visiting Thailand is wiser, without (verbally) telling others that visiting Thailand is wiser.
“Please, you can have these in Cyberjaya. But once you have the octopus, you’ll have to fast for a week in the office and skip lunch.”
“With RM2,000, you return home empty-handed from Langkawi. With the same amount of money, you return home from Krabi with souvenirs for your family and relatives. The choice is in your hand.”
Another user also supported the idea of going to Thailand for vacation with the famous slogan “Shopping heaven”, and said that the people in the neighbouring country are friendly.
Another Malaysian who frequented Thailand also praised the country for always displaying the price which eases the transactions.
“Here in Malaysia, they’ll tell you the price in a different dialect, and the cost is always cut-throat.”
It’s understandable why most Malaysians seem to opt for Thailand when it comes to vacation. Of course, if given the option, we would always want to spend as less as possible. Fellow Malaysians who have visited Thailand like it’s your second home, do you agree that the country is one of the ideal places for your time off?
What do you think our country can improve to attract more domestic and international tourists?

Quality Sleep And Healthy Living With Vitafoam: The Risks Of Taking Sleeping Pills And How To Avoid It II Tribune Online
Quality Sleep And Healthy Living With Vitafoam: The Risks Of Taking Sleeping Pills And How To Avoid It – II – Tribune Online https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/quality-sleep-and-healthy-living-with-vitafoam-the-risks-of-taking-sleeping-pills-and-how-to-avoid-it-ii-tribune-online/
In our last article, we shared some facts about the sleeping pills swap. These are medications people helplessly turn to when they have sleep problems to fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer or both. While the pills offer some self-perceived better sleep by changing the brain chemicals to slow down and suppress the area of the brain that keeps one awake and alert, they also donate various serious and poisonous effects.
I mentioned some harmful effects like sudden deaths and daytime hang-over effects which blur thinking and impair one’s ability to do things that require attentiveness like driving, operating machines, and other daily tasks. There are also abnormal sleep-related behaviours for example sleep-walking, sleep-talking, sleep-driving and sleep-eating. These include usual human activities that are ordinarily done while fully awake with alertness and full control, but at this time with partial wakefulness, the activities are dangerously done with blurred alertness and dreamlike control leading to various mishaps such as falls from walking, crashes from driving, food-choking from eating and talking jargons.
Other unwanted effects affect different body parts and functions. For the head, the user suffers headaches, light-headedness, dizziness, fainting, forgetfulness, blurred vision, confusion and hallucinations. The muscles suffer generalized weakness. Also, the mouth-to-tummy tract is affected by dry mouth, unpleasant mouth taste, feeling like vomiting, indigestion, diarrhoea, and sometimes constipation. More worrisome are drug use disorders. It is either that one may, over a period of time, build up a tolerance to sleep pills, and will have to take more and more for them to work, which in turn leads to more side effects. Or one may come to rely on sleeping pills to sleep and will be unable to sleep without them, eventually developing an addiction to them, making it difficult to stop taking them. Annoyingly, a lot of times if the pills are stopped after prolonged use, the sleep problem can return even worse.
The ills of these pills have not ended. The pills can interact with other medications like painkillers, antibiotics and other sleep pills, causing worsened effects and outright damages. All these can even be where the pills are masking an underlying medical or mental condition causing the sleep problem, and leaving it untreated. Despite the unpleasant issues about the pills, sparingly, these drugs are considered for short-term use if the sleep problem affects one’s quality of life and other measures to resolve it have not helped. This can occur during jet lag from travelling across time zones and stressful life events like the loss of loved ones, relationships and jobs.
However, the pills should be taken strictly as personalized prescriptions by a well-trained doctor, following some safety guidelines. Firstly, the doctor should do thorough clinical and laboratory assessments to identify the cause of the sleeping problem. The doctor and pharmacist should provide clear instructions on when, how many and how long the drugs would be taken, descriptions of the possible adverse effects along with drug interactions, and directives on careful quitting of the pills when due. The user should avoid driving, machine operations and other activities that require watchfulness. Lastly, for the best period of effect, the pills should be taken just before bedtime and when one can get full sleep of 7 – 8 hours.
Overall, the medications should be used in combination with these good sleep practices which should be deliberately embraced as a habit, as we strongly avoid the pills.
Firstly, practices to ensure the brain’s good health:
– Consistently drink water at least 4.5L – 5.0L over the day, with urine turning colourless.
– Regularly eat just enough quantity of balanced diet two or three times daily.
– Regularly do SAFE exercises like fast walking, swimming, push-up sets, etc. – 30mins daily or at least five times a week.
– Avoiding smoking, excess alcohol and stimulants like caffeine.
– Keeping stresses in check with avoidance of avoidable stressors
– Maintaining the same sleep schedule, particularly the period to go to bed.
Secondly, ensure sleeping-inducing surroundings by:
– Relaxing with soothing soft music, a good book or meditation.
– Sleeping in a calming and relaxing environment
– Sleeping on a quality mattress and pillow that are conducive sleeping surfaces for supportive posture

Why Grey Goose Is Pouring More Marketing Dollars Into Metaverse Digiday
Why Grey Goose Is Pouring More Marketing Dollars Into Metaverse – Digiday https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/why-grey-goose-is-pouring-more-marketing-dollars-into-metaverse-digiday/
Vodka brand Grey Goose is taking its experiential marketing up a notch with virtual experiences. Specifically, the Bacardi-owned brand is leaning into the metaverse, most recently for an activation with the US Open Tennis Championships.
Earlier this month, Grey Goose created an immersive experience on metaverse platform Decentraland for the US Open in which visitors learned about the US Open’s signature cocktail, the Honey Deuce. The activation also featured an interactive display that allowed visitors to toast the players.
“We were eager to meet our consumers in this space,” Grey Goose vp Aleco Azqueta said of bringing the brand to the metaverse. “The US Open was the most natural tie-in for our brand, given its connection to sports and gaming.”
Using events like the US Open to build its metaverse marketing strategy allows Grey Goose to create new programming to attract its target demographic and stand out to sport fans and alcohol drinkers. To develop its virtual activation, Grey Goose enlisted Razorfish, an interactive agency specializing in web development, media planning and buying, technology and innovation.
For the US Open activation, Grey Goose wanted its virtual experience to draw a strong connection with how consumers engage with its brand in real life. To achieve this, Grey Goose set up interactive games and challenges to give visitors a chance to win a variety of prizes, including limited edition wearables, merchandise and tickets to the Grey Goose suite at next year’s US Open.
Grey Goose previously experimented with metaverse marketing as part of the brand’s partnership with Peter Dundas at the Grammy Awards, which included limited-edition NFTs and a martini-shaped bag created by Grey Goose and Peter Dundas for Paris Hilton. With the US Open activation, “this is our first fully interactive digital world we’ve built” and Grey Goose is looking to “continue exploring Web3 capabilities in the months and years to come,” Azqueta said.
It’s unclear how much of Grey Goose’s advertising budget is allocated to this campaign in the metaverse, as Azqueta would not share overall budget specifics. However, he did share that the vast majority of their ad spend (70%) has been on digital channels, with social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounting for 26% of the brand’s total spend. According to Pathmatics data, Grey Goose spent a little over $4.1 million so far this year on advertising efforts.
Grey Goose’s US Open marketing strategy hinges on cementing a bond between the tournament and the brand. Grey Goose and the US Open have a long-standing partnership, which began in 2007, through which Grey Goose wants to increase its cultural presence and boost brand awareness.
As part of its metaverse marketing strategy, Grey Goose has been offering limited-edition wearables in a MetaVIP Lounge that have consistently sold out, Azqueta said, with 26,000 downloaded just one week into the US Open tournament. “This is why we’re exploring activities across NYC and the metaverse,” said Azqueta.
On top of its US Open activation, Grey Goose continued a push into delivery services and at-home cocktails. For example, in New York, Brooklyn and Manhattan residents could have pre-made, chilled Honey Deuce cocktails delivered by Cocktail Courier.
“Grey Goose has hit a home run with the Honey Deuce, because they continually evolve it,” said Damian Areyan, vp and group director of lifestyle marketing and partnerships at integrated media, digital and communications agency Team One. “Home delivery cocktails, a frozen version, a cocktail kit, cocktail recipes across social media, they use the US Open to drive awareness for their entire portfolio. They’re also using this time to make the Honey Deuce an online cultural moment for the US Open.”
In the coming years, marketing in the metaverse may move from experimental to standard for major brands, as adoption of the space grows. “Grey Goose and the US Open benefit significantly because not only does the partnership enhance the fan experience, it’s become iconic in its own right,” said Bob Lynch, founder and CEO of sponsorships intelligence platform SponsorUnited. “The expansion of this partnership allows both the US Open and Grey Goose to reach cultural influencers in music, fashion and sports who are digitally connected.”

Get Ready To Discover The Importance Of Using Aluminum Enclosures For Electronics Digital Journal
Get Ready To Discover The Importance Of Using Aluminum Enclosures For Electronics – Digital Journal https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/get-ready-to-discover-the-importance-of-using-aluminum-enclosures-for-electronics-digital-journal/
For the safety of our electrical gadgets, enclosures are used. This makes it possible to protect our electronic equipment from adverse weather, corrosion, rust, and damage. Because they may or may not improve the operating quality of the equipment within, enclosures are essential to its operation. It contains all of the cables, switches, and other electrical components in one location. Our electrical gadgets’ protection is often taken for granted, which reduces the device’s lifespan. Investing in the greatest enclosure that won’t interfere with any of the electrical device’s operations is one approach to assure its endurance. These are the three primary functions of an electronic enclosures.
One of the key objectives of aluminum enclosures for electronics is to prevent water ingress. Individuals who are looking forward to getting this benefit should think about going for an enclosure that is rated for IP68 waterproof. These electronic enclosures are sometimes used outside since they provide the greatest level of water ingress protection, IP68. They are susceptible to floods since they are exposed to extreme weather, therefore it’s a good thing our product can withstand some water immersion.
The second most important benefit that can be obtained out of aluminum enclosures for electronics is to provide protection against extreme heat. Extreme temperature exposure increases the risk of electronic equipment being damaged. After overheating, the majority of our electronic equipment slow down. Aluminum enclosures include heat sinks that enable the airflow of the electronics to cool down. Additionally, metal enclosures are efficient heat dissipators that prevent overheating of devices.
Moreover, aluminum enclosures for electronics can provide an extra layer of protection and security against risks, dents, and damages as well. Nothing is more crucial than making sure that electrical wires and tapes don’t come into contact with our bodies since an exposed wire poses a risk of shock. All of these cables and tapes are kept organized, confined, and safe from shock threats by enclosures. However, compared to metal enclosures, plastic enclosures reduce the possibility of shock dangers.
After discussing the many uses for enclosures, let’s move on to the various forms of electronic enclosures. To ensure that the component of the project box suits its functionality, it must be properly picked. Plastic and metal are the two major materials used for electronic enclosures.
Comparatively less expensive and lighter than metal boxes are plastic enclosures. It guarantees that the electrical gadgets within cannot hurt the human when touched because of its nonconductivity. The ABS Plastic enclosure, a more durable thermoplastic, is an example of a plastic enclosure.Stainless steel or aluminum are often used in metal enclosures or metal boxes. Although it costs more than plastic enclosures, be confident that the investment is worthwhile. Since metal enclosures are more enduring, they can support the device’s weight and RF shielding. While taking a look at the best aluminum enclosures for electronics available in the market, it is important to settle down with the best option out of them.

Disgraced Crypto Founder Says Hes Not On The Run. But No One Knows Where He Is. The Washington Post
Disgraced Crypto Founder Says He’s Not On The Run. But No One Knows Where He Is. – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/disgraced-crypto-founder-says-hes-not-on-the-run-but-no-one-knows-where-he-is-the-washington-post/
The person most closely associated with last spring’s crypto crash appears to be on the run after an arrest warrant was issued for him — and investigators have asked for Interpol’s help to track him down.
Do Kwon, the South Korean developer of the TerraUSD and Luna cryptocurrencies, is believed to have been in Singapore since at least the spring, when those coins lost nearly all of their value. But Singapore authorities said this weekend he is no longer there, and South Korean investigators have reportedly asked Interpol to issue a “red notice” that would allow officers in member countries to provisionally arrest Kwon pending extradition if they find him.
Last Wednesday the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors Office issued an arrest warrant for Kwon and five other people who worked on both the currencies and Terraform Labs, the company that Kwon co-founded. Prosecutors did not list the charges, but investors have said he defrauded them in promoting the coins. TerraUSD — which used a computer program that claimed to peg its value to the U.S. dollar — and a related token known as Luna both took off in the past year, with each multiplying in value dozens of times over before crashing in May.
A Terra spokesman did not reply to a request for comment. Kwon also did not reply to a request for comment. He said on Twitter Sunday that “We are in the process of defending ourselves in multiple jurisdictions – we have held ourselves to an extremely high bar of integrity, and look forward to clarifying the truth over the next few months.”
The red-notice request was originally reported by the Financial Times.
The Kwon case is being watched closely as a sign of how aggressively law enforcement will pursue those engaged in allegedly illegal activities in the crypto space. Last month the Treasury Department issued sanctions on Tornado Cash, which helps anonymize crypto transactions, in a strong example of a crackdown on tech-based financial tools.
But the pursuit of individuals in crypto is much rarer, and Kwon’s case could be a bellwether for how other projects that lost large sums of value could be targeted in the courts — and if, eventually, some investors might claw their money back.
The 31-year-old Kwon graduated from Stanford University and briefly worked at Apple before returning to his home country several years ago to found a number of crypto projects, including Luna. Before the spring crash, Kwon was hailed as a visionary and even attracted a cult of everyday fans known as “Lunatics.”
Nor was it just retail traders — Terraform also raised money from respective financiers such as Silicon Valley VC firm Lightspeed Venture Partners.
But in May a quick sell-off began for still-unclear reasons, prompting the loss of more than $40 billion in value, according to analysis firm Elliptic, as the price of Luna plunged to nearly zero and TerraUSD went from $1 to $0.11. The collapse helped trigger a broader crypto crash that affected dozens of other assets and companies.
Bitcoin has gone from nearly $40,000 to under $20,000 since the Terra collapse, and the total market value of crypto has plummeted by more than a trillion dollars in just a few months.
Kwon made an attempt to relaunch Luna shortly after, to the outrage of many investors.
Law-enforcement experts said that they believed prosecution of the entrepreneur was possible but challenging given the vagaries of crypto, with the line in the industry between fraud and risky investment often blurry.
“If someone walks into a bank and holds it up for a lot of money with a videotape of the whole thing, well that’s a pretty clear-cut case,” said William Callahan III, a former Drug Enforcement Administration special agent who now serves as director of government and strategic affairs for a crypto company called the Blockchain Intelligence Group. “Investigating and prosecuting something like this requires a much more unique set of skills.”
He said the case against Kwon would likely turn on whether it can be proved he knowingly misled investors in stumping for the coins or was mounting a good-faith campaign for a risky-but-legal-venture.
Some evidence gathered by South Korean investigators so far, according to local media, includes allegations that Kwon and other Terraform executives decided to close their South Korea offices just a week before the currencies crashed. Kwon has said the shuttering was long in the works.
On Sunday the pursuit of Kwon took a surreal social-media turn when Kwon, outspoken on Twitter, took to the platform to deny he is a fugitive.
“I am not ‘on the run’ or anything similar – for any government agency that has shown interest to communicate, we are in full cooperation and we don’t have anything to hide,” he posted.
But the Seoul prosecutors quickly denied it. He is “obviously on the run,” the office said in a statement, according to local news media agency Yonhap.
Kwon quipped that he would only give away his coordinates if “1) we are friends, 2) we have plans to meet 3) we are involved in a gps based web3 game.”
U.S. Presses Tunisia Once A Bright Spot Of Arab Spring On Democracy The Washington Post
U.S. Presses Tunisia, Once A Bright Spot Of Arab Spring, On Democracy – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-presses-tunisia-once-a-bright-spot-of-arab-spring-on-democracy-the-washington-post/
The Biden administration is pressing Tunisia’s leaders to reverse steps weakening the country’s democracy, exposing friction with a nation once seen as the most promising of those who experienced Arab Spring revolutions.
U.S. officials describe efforts to urge Tunisia to embrace a different political course as President Kais Saied continues to consolidate power more than a decade after Tunisians’ uprising against their then-strongman leader helped touch off revolutions in countries from Syria to Egypt.
A senior State Department official said U.S. officials have expressed their concern about events including a recent constitutional referendum that significantly strengthened the powers of Saied, who took wide-ranging steps to weaken institutional checks and sideline political opponents in 2021 in what critics called a “self-coup.”
The U.S. moves include talks between Saied and Barbara Leaf, the State Department’s top official for the Middle East. During a visit to Tunis last month, Leaf conveyed worries about a new constitutional framework “that weakens Tunisia’s democracy and how crucial going forward an inclusive and transparent reform process is to restore confidence of the Tunisian people,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive diplomatic discussions.
The public critiques have roiled the U.S.-Tunisian relationship. In July, Saied’s government reacted angrily to a statement by Secretary of State Antony Blinken raising questions about a constitutional referendum vote marked by low voter turnout.
“Tunisia has experienced an alarming erosion of democratic norms over the past year and reversed many of the Tunisian people’s hard-won gains since 2011,” Blinken said.
Saied’s government rejected what it called unacceptable “interference in the national internal affairs” following Blinken’s statement and summoned the top official at the U.S. Embassy in Tunis.
Saied’s office said the Tunisian leader pushed back on allegations laid out by Leaf in their meeting and “called on the American authorities to listen to their Tunisian counterparts to find out the reality of the situation,” Middle East Monitor reported.
U.S. officials have sought to forcefully nudge Tunisia while avoiding a total rupture with a nation whose cooperation on counterterrorism is seen as a crucial element of U.S. strategy for North Africa. Tunisia, with a population of nearly 12 million, for its part values U.S. military support and needs America’s backing as it seeks a deal with the International Monetary Fund.
“This partnership is going to be strongest when we have a shared commitment to democratic principles,” the senior official said.
While most Arab Spring revolutions ended in conflict or strengthened autocracy, Tunisia made significant strides to build its democratic process after the 2011 ouster of longtime leader Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.
But public discontent has festered over joblessness and other pocketbook issues. Responding to those frustrations, the steps by Saied, a former constitutional lawyer, have resonated with some Tunisians fed up with the country’s post-revolution path. Others have grown increasingly alarmed.
Sarah Yerke, a former State Department official who is now a scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said the series of U.S. visits to Tunisia and public statements about its political process had been “effective in that they let Saied know someone is watching.”
“This kind of consistent drumbeat … is preventing him from taking Tunisia down an even further path,” she said, referring to the potential for Saied to take additional steps concentrating power in the Tunisian presidency.
The Biden administration has adopted a more critical stance than its European allies, many of whom are focused on deterring migration via North Africa. Citing Democratic reversals, the Biden administration has proposed a large cut to U.S. military and economic aid to Tunisia.
The senior official said the United States was ready to help Tunisians forge an accountable democracy including free debate, freedoms, and in “establishing checks and balances that are critical to the health of all democracies.”
He declined to characterize Saied’s response to Leaf’s message but said: “Friends need to be able to speak directly to each other.”
U.S. officials believe their pressure may be having the effect of heading off even more problematic steps, like a more dramatic crackdown on the media and civil society groups.
On Friday, Tunisia published a new electoral law that reduced the size of the country’s parliament and lessens the role of political parties. But it did not, as some U.S. officials had feared it might, take more worrisome steps like prohibiting candidates affiliated with parties from participating in upcoming legislative elections. Some opposition groups plan to boycott the vote.
The senior official said the Biden administration welcomed the law as a step toward enabling broad participation in the elections.
“An inclusive and transparent reform process is so crucial going forward,” the official said.

Indian Government Proposes Online Gaming Regulatory Body | AGB Asia Gaming Brief
Indian Government Proposes Online Gaming Regulatory Body | AGB – Asia Gaming Brief https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/indian-government-proposes-online-gaming-regulatory-body-agb-asia-gaming-brief/
A panel comprised of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s top bureaucrats recommended the implementation of a regulatory body governing online gaming in a much-awaited report which will shape the future of the gaming industry in the country.
Jaydeep Chakravartty
The panel comprises Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s top bureaucrats, including the heads of the revenue and sports ministries.
The panel has recommended creating a regulatory body to classify online games based on skill or chance.
The recommendation for creating a regulatory body to classify online games based on skill or chance may finally resolve this endless debate in the online gaming industry.
The draft report also called for the introduction of rules to block prohibited formats and take a stricter stance on gambling websites.
Panel members have been drafting the online gaming sector regulations for months, where foreign investors such as Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital have backed gaming startups Dream11 and Mobile Premier League, hugely popular for fantasy cricket.
The much-awaited report will shape the future of the mobile gaming industry in the country.
The draft report comes at a time when online gaming and online gambling apps are under increased scrutiny.
Few state governments, including Tamil Nadu and Kerala, are looking to ban games such as rummy and others entirely.
The report noted that state governments already find it “difficult to implement and monitor geo-fencing measures” to ensure that no user in their region is accessing illegal forms of gambling or gaming.
The industry is expected to reach $5 billion by 2025, from $1.5 billion this year. It comes amid rising concerns over games causing addiction and “inconsistent state laws” disrupting business.
Some of the proposal highlights in the draft report include:
• The report says the central government should consider enacting a separate law to regulate online gaming as a “long-term measure”. As the formulation and enactment of the new law will take time. Until then, the industry can be regulated through rules drafted under India’s existing IT law.
• Online gaming, excluding e-sports and games of chance, would come under the Union IT Ministry, the report proposed.
• The draft report proposes that rules should apply to both real money and free games of skill, covering e-sports, online fantasy sports, card games, and such diverse casual games that may impose serious impact.
• Both Indian gaming companies and companies operating outside but targeting Indian users would come under the ambit of new rules.
• The report advocates the creation of a regulatory body for the online gaming industry, which will also monitor what meets as a game of skill and certify various gaming formats.
• The report recommends the incorporation of provisions for a “Code of Ethics” for the gaming publishers; have due diligence of online gaming platforms, consisting of a powerful grievance redressal mechanism and binding know-your-customer norms.
• Any online gaming platform offering real-money online games to Indian users should have a legal entity incorporated under Indian law, the report suggests. It has also recommended blocking powers for the government to deal with unregistered online gaming platforms.
• The report proposes a three-tier dispute resolution mechanism; gaming platform, self-regulatory organizations of gaming platforms, and an oversight committee led by an applicable Ministry.
The IT Ministry will conclude the report after receiving further comments from panel members.
The report will then be sent to the cabinet secretariat for approval, yet no timeline has been fixed for finalization.
Online games like fantasy cricket on Dream11 remain popular attractions. Users can create their teams by paying as little as US$0.17, with a total prize pool of US$88,000 up for grabs by winners. A top-ranking performer can take home US$3,462.
Investment in India’s gaming sector saw a whopping flow of 1.7 billion USD in the last 17 months, with over 400 online gaming startups in India.
The country is experiencing a rise in employment opportunities within the job market and creating more job opportunities in tech-oriented careers within IT and game development.
Amidst this, the gaming industry continues to underscore the need for the central government’s guidelines for online gaming and a central body to govern this space.
Despite the gaming industry witnessing robust growth for businesses and in terms of player adoption, there’s still a lack of understanding and awareness in our country.
Online skill gaming cannot be equated with gambling for being subscription-led or involving an entry fee.
‘Games of skill’ are legitimate business activities protected under Article 19(1)(g) of the Indian Constitution since they do not fall under the purview of ‘gambling,’ according to the judgment of various courts.
These precedents have repeatedly emphasized that games of chance constitute gambling activity while games of skill do not.
In August, a group of ministers met industry bodies and leading operators to discuss the valuation approach for GST on online gaming and attempted to understand how online skill gaming is different from betting and gambling.
As the industry has witnessed unprecedented growth so far, the next level of growth is highly dependent on a well-defined regulatory framework.
The government must take progressive steps to regulate this sector effectively.
Considering its future growth, the industry should not be governed by obsolete views and laws.

The actress and her husband joined a familiar friend in the Tennessee city.
After a fruitful visit to Disneyland, Kristen Bell and her husband, fellow actor Dax Shepard, traveled to Nashville, Tennessee.
There, they joined a familiar face for fans of Bell’s hit comedy series The Good Place: cast member Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who played Simone.
It looks like Howell-Baptiste and Bell formed a strong connection while working on the fan-favorite show, as the two had a great time in Nashville.
Bell posted a handful of pictures from the trip of herself, Shepard, Howell-Baptiste, and actor and model Larry Fields, who Howell-Baptiste wrote a children’s book called Little Black Boy: Oh, the Things You Will Do! with.
Howell-Baptiste and Fields are likely partners as well, as the two attend many events together, and it looks like they share a pet cat, but nothing has been publicly confirmed.
Bell captioned the update, “#bristol baby! Thank u @nascar for the fun Nashville for the style and @kirbyhowellbaptiste and @iamlarryfields for being the best travel buddies. And as always the hostess with the mostess @hays_estes.”
The four watched a Nascar race at Bristol Motor Speedway, ate some good food together, and in Bell and Howell-Baptiste’s case, wore matching jewelry.

They also got a photo with Nascar driver Bubba Wallace, while another picture shows Shepard lifting Bell up for a dramatic kiss.
Howell-Baptiste commented on Bell’s post, “SEXY,” about the pair’s matching rings that spell out the word.
Many fans loved seeing Bell and her former co-star together again, with one person commenting, “MY BEST DUO.”
In The Good Place, Simone first appears at the beginning of Season 3, when the crew is sent back to Earth in an experiment to see if they can become better people.
She dates Chidi (William Jackson Harper) for a while, showing up again later in the afterlife.
Now, Howell-Baptiste stars in Netflix‘s The Sandman as Death, while Bell voices Abby in Central Park.

Healthy Lifestyle: Why You Should Avoid Consumption Of Trans Fats Others Daily Trust
‘Healthy Lifestyle: Why You Should Avoid Consumption Of Trans Fats, Others’ – Daily Trust https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/healthy-lifestyle-why-you-should-avoid-consumption-of-trans-fats-others-daily-trust/
….Eat margarine in moderation—FG
The federal government has advised Nigerians to adopt healthy lifestyles in order to protect themselves from diseases and live long.
Dr Salma Ibrahim Anas, Director Family Health, Federal Ministry of Health, stated this in Abuja during the ministerial briefing and update on COVID-19 response and other developments in the health sector.
She said maintaining healthy lifestyle involves choices you make about what you eat, and attitude towards your environment among others.
She said every choice one made has an impact on his or her health.
She warned Nigerians against the consumption of trans fats, saying they are very dangerous to health.
Trans fats are a form of unsaturated fat, and can be either natural or artificial. Artificial trans fats are mostly formed during hydrogenation, a process in which hydrogen is added to vegetable oil to form a semisolid product known as partially hydrogenated oil.
Dr Anas said, “Unfortunately a lot of unhealthy fats have infiltrated our markets but we are working very closely with the National Agency for Food and Drugs Control and Administration (NAFDAC) to ensure that we avoid these fats.
“Our fats are hydrogenated, called trans fats and this is done to make them solid, so that they don’t burn off easily in the frying pan.
“But unfortunately, most business marketers, especially those that are in the food business, use trans fat and this is what is mostly used today in bread making, in cakes and several other snacks that we consume every day.”
While saying that trans fats generated a lot of problems to the circulation system, she said it caused people to have heart problems.
Dr Anas said Nigeria has one of the highest incidences of heart problems in Africa, all as a result of the consumption of unhealthy fats.
“Most of the fats have cholesterol and most of these fats are low-density cholesterol which is very dangerous, and it is called the bad fat.
“But there are healthy fats which give you high-density cholesterol. So we encourage Nigerians to be very careful and avoid all things that are trans fat,” she said, adding that margarine is a common form of trans fat.
“Nigerian should avoid it as much as they can. Nigerians like margarine, they even ask you to send it to them even when they are abroad, and they will tell you they want the Nigerian margarine; that Nigerian margarine is trans fat, we should avoid it as much as we can.”
She said Nigerians should generally eat healthy. “Most Nigerians will say they have access only to carbohydrate foods, but we have a lot of fruits, vegetables and can also balance with different varieties of protein and healthy fats. So, it’s not just quantity but quality is also vital.”
Advising on other ways Nigerians can maintain a healthy lifestyle, Dr Anas said, “I will start by saying drink a lot of water. Water is supposed to be priceless.
“Nigerians should drink adequate water to ensure that they are well hydrated at all times – whether it is during the cold or hot weather – to maintain their hydration.
“They should also ensure adequate sleep, a minimum of eight hours per day. It is very important and very critical so that you can refresh yourself.
“Exercise is very important too, and we must exercise at least 30 minutes’ walk per day. If you can do it most days of the week; you should walk to ensure that you are living healthy.”
The doctor also advised against smoking shisha saying it is one of the major causes of lung cancer in the country.
“Some people even go the extreme by adding some perfume to shisha before smoking it, and this causes so many health challenges in the country,” she added.
She also advised people to have a work-life balance, saying one has to be alive before one can work.
“We should make the right choices so that we remain healthy and live long and make meaningful contributions to the development of Nigeria,” she added.

The UAE To Simulate Planned Mars Manned Mission In The Metaverse NFTgators
The UAE To Simulate Planned Mars Manned Mission In The Metaverse – NFTgators https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-uae-to-simulate-planned-mars-manned-mission-in-the-metaverse-nftgators/
Quick take:
The United Arab Emirates will simulate its panned mars manned mission in the metaverse.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) will offer support for the development of the simulation.
The project plans to capture the feel of being in space and setting foot on the red planet.
The United Arab Emirates will simulate its planned mars manned mission in the metaverse. The middle eastern country has laid out a plan to send people to the red planet in the year 2117 but wants to make the experience as real as possible 95 years prior to the day.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) will collaborate with Web3 pioneer Bedu to create a unique metaverse experience that will bring the touch and feel of the red planet to life 95 years before the mission date.
The project also aims to establish the challenges of colonising another world, an announcement published on Monday reads.
Commenting on the project, Adnan Al Rais, Mars 2117 programme manager at the MBRSC, said: “As we set our sights on ever more challenging destinations for exploration with humans and robots, innovative ideas and future thinking will be critical to helping us reach new milestones. Concepts like this will be supported by MBRSC as we believe this will help us expand our scope of bigger possibilities.”
The UAE has been one of the leading early adopters of the metaverse and web3. Earlier this year, Dubai revealed a multi-pronged strategy for the metaverse that could create more than 40,000 jobs for the city.
In June, another of its top cities, Ajman launched a virtual police service to help the public by letting them interact with avatars of officers, while one of the country’s largest mall operators Majid Al Futtaim teamed up with leading crypto exchange and blockchain investment company Binance to launch its web3 strategy.
But now, the UAE wants to take things further into space with its latest metaverse project.
The MBRSC will form a committee to work in close collaboration with Bedu. The committee will among other tasks offer advisory, and share data and information on space and Mars.
In return, Bedu will offer its expertise in educating MBRSC about web3 and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which have played a key role in accelerating the adoption of the metaverse.
Amin Al Zarouni, CEO of Bedu, commented: “The UAE is known throughout the world as a pioneer. As it takes its place as a frontrunner in the race to put the first humans on another world, we congratulate Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre for its recent successes and the bold scope of its planned future endeavours.”

5 Ways To Convert Your Home Movies To Digital AARP
5 Ways To Convert Your Home Movies To Digital – AARP https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/5-ways-to-convert-your-home-movies-to-digital-aarp/
The important thing is to do this sooner rather than later. Then you can organize them effectively. And you have options.
1. Connect to a computer
If you still have a working VCR or camcorder, you can connect it to your computer using a “middleman” gadget. They’re often called a video capture card or analog video-capture device, and you plug them into the back of your playback machine.
See more Technology & Wireless offers
RCA cables — yes, the company you grew up with invented these connectors — are included: yellow for video, and red and white for left and right audio. The other end of this gadget has a USB connector you plug into your PC or Mac. Some also have an HDMI cable that plugs into modern TVs.
These products can cost as little as $16, though more premium offerings with extra conversion features may be closer to $70. If these products don’t come with software to record the video on your computer, you’ll need to download an application on your own.
Before you pay, try a free version to see if it does the trick, such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), Studio, VirtualDub or VideoLAN Client (VLC), Alternatively, Microsoft Video Editor is part of Windows 10 and Windows 11, and iMovie is already on your Macintosh computer or available as a free download.
2. Record directly onto memory cards
If you don’t own a computer or prefer to bypass the computer directly, there are gizmos that plug into the back of your H8, MiniDV camcorder, VCR or Betamax machine. That way you can record directly onto a flash storage device, such as an SD memory card or a USB stick.
Products such the Hi8 VHS VCR to Digital Converter 3.0 ($116.99) or the ClearClick Video to Digital Converter 2.0 ($159.95) include a small display so you can view what you’re digitizing. You’ll need to pick up SD memory cards or USB drives on your own, but they’re relatively affordable.
Once your home movies are stored on flash drives, you can insert them into a computer to view and copy them onto an external hard drive. Many TVs have a USB port, so you may be able to watch them on a big screen.
3. Use a DVD recorder
While not as popular as a few years ago, “ripping” your old tapes onto recordable DVDs is still a viable option. As long as you have a DVD or Blu-ray player, a computer with a DVD drive, or a video game console such as one in the PlayStation or Xbox family, you can watch DVDs packed with your memories.
Along with a DVD recorder or a DVD recorder drive on your computer, you’ll need to pick up some blank DVDs. ISTANBUL, Sept 19 (Reuters) – Turkish lenders Isbank and Denizbank have suspended use of Russian payment system Mir, the banks said on Monday, following a U.S. crackdown on those accused of helping Moscow skirt sanctions over the war in Ukraine.
The moves, announced separately, came after Washington expanded its sanctions last week to include the head of the entity running Mir, which is popular with the tens of thousands of Russian tourists who arrived in Turkey this year.
The suspensions by two of the five Turkish banks that had been using Mir reflect their effort to avoid the financial cross-fire between the West and Russia, as the Turkish government takes a balanced diplomatic stance.

Isbank (ISCTR.IS), whose shares tumbled 10% on Monday, said it halted Mir payments and is evaluating the U.S. Treasury’s new sanctions. Isbank also said it was keen to comply with national and international laws, regulations and commercial business principles.
Asked for comment, Denizbank said: “We are currently unable to provide service” in Mir. The bank “acts in accordance with international sanction regulations,” it had said earlier on Monday.
NATO member Ankara opposes Western sanctions on Russia on principal and has close ties with both Moscow and Kyiv, its Black Sea neighbours. It also condemned Russia’s invasion and sent armed drones to Ukraine as part of its diplomatic balance.
Yet Western nations are growing concerned over increased economic ties between Turkey and Russia, diplomats say, particularly after several meetings between leaders Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, including last week in Uzbekistan.
Last month the U.S. Treasury sent a letter to big Turkish businesses warning they risked penalties if they maintained commercial ties with sanctioned Russians.
Turkey’s Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati at the time called concerns over the letter “meaningless.” In April, he said Russian tourists – critical to Turkey’s beleaguered economy – could easily make payments since the Mir system was growing among Turkey’s banks. read more
Many Russians have gone to Turkey since the February invasion left them few other travel options, and sanctions cut off their use of major U.S. credit cards.
Russia calls its actions in Ukraine “a special military operation.”
After the two private lenders suspended Mir, it is still operated by state lenders Halkbank (HALKB.IS), Vakifbank (VAKBN.IS) and Ziraat.
Istanbul’s banking index tumbled sharply last week and shed more than 9% Monday, triggering circuit breakers halting trading. One banker said worries that so-called secondary sanctions could target Turkish banks or firms affected markets.
The expanded U.S. sanctions last week targeted the chief executive of the Bank of Russia’s National Card Payment System (NSPK), which runs Mir.

Molly Russells Inquest To Put Focus On Big Tech BBC
Molly Russell’s Inquest To Put Focus On Big Tech – BBC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/molly-russells-inquest-to-put-focus-on-big-tech-bbc/

Molly saw large amounts of material around self-harm, suicide and depression on social media
Almost five years after she took her own life, the inquest into the death of teenager Molly Russell is due to begin.
Molly, 14, killed herself in 2017 after viewing material about self-harm, suicide and depression, on social media sites such as Instagram and Pinterest.
Her father Ian, a campaigner for online safety, hopes it is a turning point.
“I hope that we will learn lessons and that it will help produce the change that’s needed to keep people safe, to keep people alive,” he told BBC News.
Mr Russell believes long-term exposure to harmful material contributed to Molly’s death.
Molly’s story provided fresh impetus for new legislation to regulate so-called big tech companies. The Online Safety Bill is still making its way through Parliament and is due a third reading in the Commons.
Meta, which owns Instagram, and Pinterest are officially taking part in the inquest, which is due to last two weeks. It will hear evidence from executives from both companies, after they were ordered by the coroner to appear in person.
Meta is likely to be questioned about a number of internal documents revealed by the former employee and whistleblower Frances Haugen. These include research carried out by the company into the impact of the platform on the mental health of young people.
‘Pretty dreadful’ content
In the last six months of her life, Molly used her Instagram account up to 120 times a day, liking more than 11,000 pieces of content. She is thought to have used the image-sharing site Pinterest more than 15,000 times over the same period.
The coroner, Andrew Walker, has already been warned that some of the content is “pretty dreadful” and difficult even for adults to look at for extended periods of time.
Ged Flynn, chief executive of Papyrus, which works to prevent suicide in young people, said Mr Russell’s campaign to prevent future deaths was “a hugely significant contribution to the agenda of suicide prevention in this country”.
“We have to change the way we accept the power of the tech giants,” he said.

Others believe that the inquest may prove to be a “watershed moment”. Andy Burrows, head of child safety online policy at the NSPCC, said: “Molly’s death is a tragedy that is all too relatable to all parents who worry about the risks their children face online.
“For the first time we will see big tech representatives questioned under oath about how their products may have contributed to the death of a child.”
A Meta spokesperson told the BBC: “Our deepest sympathies remain with Molly’s family and we will continue to assist the coroner in this inquest. We have never allowed content that promotes or glorifies suicide and self-harm.”
In a statement, Pinterest told BBC News: “Combating self-harm is a priority for us as we strive to ensure that Pinterest plays a positive role in people’s lives.”
However, Matthew Bergman, a lawyer from the Social Media Victims Law Centre, in Seattle, in the US, says the proceedings will be closely watched in North America.
“Regardless of the outcome, the fact that Meta senior personnel have been forced to testify in a proceeding like this one is a significant step toward accountability.”

These are just our top stories and so read on for the rest.
Rockstar Confirms GTA 6 Leaks, Says Work “Will Continue As Planned”
Rockstar has now confirmed the recent GTA 6 leak, releasing a statement with expressions of both reassurance and disappointment. “We do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects,” the company said. “We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will constitute as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations.”

Streamers xQc, Ludwig, Mizkif Work To Repay Fans Duped By Sliker During Twitch Gambling Controversy
The streamer Sliker shocked fans and followers recently for admitting to effectively stealing something like $200,000 from them in order to fuel his gambling addiction. The latest development is that xQc and Ludwig have now come together to repay some of these people. “I’m working with xQc to pay everyone back who got scammed by Sliker,” Ludwig pointed out. The streamer added that “it’s time Twitch does something about gambling streams,” picking up on similar remarks by xQc. Mizkif has apparently paid a few people back already.
Zenless Zone Zero Drops 18-Minute Gameplay Video Showing Off Combat And Hub Area
We haven’t really gotten a good look at Zenless Zone Zero yet, but the developer behind this upcoming title, miHoYo, has now released a lengthy trailer showcasing some of the gameplay. “Through the lens of the Proxy siblings, players got to experience everyday life in the seemingly peaceful city of New Eridu, chatting to local citizens about the latest gossip and interacting with adorable pets in the streets,” miHoYo says in the description. “A new battlefield was also unveiled with a glimpse at a new boss fight, as players were transported into the perilous Hollows with immersive quest interaction together with the revelation of more diverse battle techniques for the Agents.”
Like A Dragon Producer Says Name Changed In West Because “We’re Not Talking About Yakuza”
Fans of the franchise have been wondering why the name of their favorite game was changed from Yakuza to Like a Dragon. “We are talking about the criminal underworld, but we’re not talking about Yakuza,” Producer at Sega Masayoshi Yokoyama explained. “So, it just makes sense for us not to include them in the name. If we carry through the accent, we’d be ‘Yakuza: Ishin!’ It’s not ‘Yakuza: Ishin!’ That’s not what it’s about, so ‘Like a Dragon: Ishin!’ makes more sense.” Well said.

Woodland Man Accused Of Shooting Handyman The Reflector
Woodland Man Accused Of Shooting Handyman – The Reflector https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/woodland-man-accused-of-shooting-handyman-the-reflector/
Rick Bannan / rick@thereflector.com
A Woodland man faces assault and unlawful firearms possession charges after he allegedly shot a man in July who performed work for him.
Joseph Ralls, 82, was scheduled for an arraignment hearing in Clark County Superior Court on Sept. 20. He faces charges of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
Ralls was initially scheduled for an arraignment on Sept. 13 though he did not appear at the time of the hearing. According to court documents, he appeared an hour later and the court moved to reschedule.
During Ralls’ first court appearance on Sept. 7 he was granted supervised release and was ordered to wear a GPS device due to medical conditions, according to court records.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Woodland police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Island Aire Drive to respond to a shooting at around 3:16 p.m. on July 27. Officers were told someone had been shot but had left in a pickup truck.
On arrival, officers found the resident of the home, Ralls, down on the wheelchair ramp to his residence. Ralls told officers a burglar tried to enter his home. He refused medical treatment and went to the Woodland Police Department to talk with officers.
At 3:30 p.m. that day, officers learned a shooting victim had arrived at the Cowlitz Tribal Police Station on the tribal reservation, the affidavit stated. The victim, identified as Kenneth Aguilar, 32, told officers he had gone to Ralls’ residence to collect money Ralls owed him when he was shot.
An officer responding to the residence saw an “obvious” bullet hole through a window to the right of the front door, the affidavit stated. Ralls told officers he fell out of his wheelchair and dropped a gun under a skirting panel at the bottom of the ramp.
In an interview, Ralls said Aguilar worked as a handyman for Ralls for a few months and believed Aguilar was using drugs, according to the affidavit. Ralls said Aguilar had harassed Ralls’ wife for weeks while Ralls was in the hospital.
Ralls said Aguilar demanded $100 from his wife. Aguilar reportedly did not accept the $25 the woman offered him for what she believed they owed him, the affidavit stated. Ralls said he was defending his home when he shot Aguilar through the window, who had been standing outside on the wheelchair ramp.
“Ralls said more than once he wished he had been a better shot,” the affidavit stated.
He could not explain a specific threat Aguilar made toward his wife.
Ralls told officers he was a convicted felon which prohibited him from owning a firearm, the affidavit stated, and that the gun was his wife’s. He said he went outside after shooting at Aguilar, after which his motorized wheelchair tipped over at the bottom of the ramp.
During the interview, Ralls “said something to the effect that Aguilar was a ‘tweaker that needed to be put down,’” according to the affidavit.
Ralls’ wife told a similar story to officers, the affidavit stated. She also could not recall a specific threat from Aguilar and stated he made no attempt to get into the residence.
Officers executing a search warrant recovered the firearm, which was a revolver, the affidavit stated. Ralls was confirmed to have been convicted of a felony in the 1980s.
Aguilar received surgery to remove a bullet from his upper-right chest at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and was expected to make a full recovery, according to the affidavit.
Ralls was not initially booked by officers due to his age and health, the affidavit stated. He was later issued a summons to appear in court on Sept. 7, according to court documents.
Why Should Your Family Take A Road Trip? Experiences Along The Way Deseret News
Why Should Your Family Take A Road Trip? Experiences Along The Way – Deseret News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/why-should-your-family-take-a-road-trip-experiences-along-the-way-deseret-news/
On a beautiful September afternoon in Murray, Utah, Jason Miller and his wife Deb are set to load the tricked-out van they call “the camper” for a road trip weekend of camping and a music festival.
Typically their 8-year-old daughter, Teagan, doesn’t help out with the loading process, but this time she decided to pitch in. And as many helping hands make light work, Teagan brought her stuffed animals and some of the family bags over to the car to help prepare for a fun family weekend in Torrey and Capitol Reef National Park. It would be a few days filled with music, s’mores around the fire and time spent in nature in their family van.
“The camper came to be because we love going out on the road and we wanted to up our game. We don’t use it for every road trip but we do use it for most,” Jason Miller said.
Why drag the whole family away from home for days at a time? Miller said it’s for the experiences his family has while on the road together.
“We road trip for a lot of reasons, but having new and exciting experiences are at the top of the list. We love exploring, visiting friends and family, and we even love going to some of our favorite places again and again,” Miller said.
Shared experiences playing the license plate game, asking “are we there yet?” and going through the good and the bad of traveling across the country together are quintessential aspects of the all-American family road trip.
While generations have enjoyed this type of vacationing, where did the family road trip get its start?
World War II’s influence on American travel
The real major event that kicked off the road tripping boom was the end of World War II, according to Richard Ratay in his book, “Don’t Make me Pull Over!: An Informal History of the Family Road Trip.” When the draft and enlistment took young men away from home for the first time in their lives, they got to see more of their nation for basic training and then were sent off to different parts of the world to fight for America.
After seeing the world, these young men came back with a travel bug, Ratay explained, right as they were starting to have families amid the baby boom. “They had all these kids because of the postwar economic prosperity that America was going through at that time,” Ratay said.
American automobile factories were producing large numbers of cars at the time thanks to their increased productivity and efficiency during the war. “America all of a sudden had young men who were interested in travel with new families, lots of money, lots of time, lots of cars, and that was really what spurred the travel boom,” Ratay said.
Suddenly the country was full of families packing up their station wagons to go on vacation.
All of these elements might not have ultimately amounted to much without the final key ingredient: the interstate highway system. The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, which authorized the construction of the 41,000 mile interstate highway network across America, was a major factor that brought family road trips to fruition.
“Legislation was passed to start funding construction of the interstate, of course, in 1956, but it really took America 25 years to build those interstates,” Ratay said.
With all of these pieces in place, the 1960s brought the true launch of the family road trip craze, which peaked in the 1970s. After the interstate highway systems were born, they expanded from coast to coast while automobiles were becoming a permanent part of the American lifestyle.

What made family road trips popular?
Ratay can still remember waking up as a kid at 3 a.m., packing up the car and heading out on a family road trip to beat the Chicago rush hour traffic back in the mid 1970s.
His family was on an Indiana interstate when suddenly the car started spinning. Magazines and coffee cups went flying and eventually the car hit a sudden stop. Ratay recalls the interior of the vehicle being completely dark as all the windows were completely caked in snow.
Ratay’s family car, along with 40 others, had hit a patch of black ice and spun out of control into a ditch. Thankfully, there were no collisions, but his family and others were stranded on the interstate waiting until someone could come by and help get them out of the ditch. To pass the time, Ratay recalls his family setting up camp on the side of the road where they played family games, sang songs and tried to shovel snow off the car.
They were eventually rescued and headed back on their journey, he told the Deseret News.
Family vacations became especially popular during this time as they allowed people to learn about the country in a time where technology couldn’t.
“We as kids had a very little idea of how big America actually is and how different people and the culture of America can be at distant ends of the country,” Ratay said.
Ratay said road trips were educational experiences for him and his family growing up.
“It was eye opening that so many different people, from different backgrounds, could exist in the same country together,” Ratay said. “We didn’t have 400 channels that people are constantly seeing today among other technological advances, and so road trips were a firsthand experience of understanding the way other people lived.”
Road trips also opened the door to visit multiple “must see” destinations across the 50 states.
“I remember going to various baseball stadiums across the west, camping and backpacking throughout Utah, visiting national parks, Disneyland, driving through an actual tree in the redwoods, and collecting ash after Mt. Saint Helens blew,” Miller said.
With modern technology and air travel, most memorable sites can be easily reached. Despite the changing world, the magic of the family road trip can still happen for families — and still does today.

Road trip magic
While parents today may not be able to preserve the magic of the family road trip experience as it was in the ’70s and ’80s, Ratay said the best way to try is to explore off the freeway.
“The thing that I would urge travelers and parents today to do is to get off the interstate and go to some of these places. Research the route you’re taking as well as the destination, make time and find curious and interesting little things along the way to stop at,” Ratay said.
Ratay said one of his all time favorite road trips was when he took his own family to see Mount Rushmore a few years back.
“We rented a big RV and we made the quintessential road trip out west to go to Mount Rushmore. It was a fantastic experience, and I think what made that trip so great was the stops we made along the way that made it memorable,” Ratay said.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic created hybrid work opportunities for some, Miller said having the option to work remotely has helped his family realize they can discover more of the country as they work from the road.
“I am fortunate to work from home, which also means I can work on the road. So why not take advantage and see what the world has in store?”
In order to enjoy road tripping, Miller said people have to think of the journey as part of the experience.
“There are so many cool things on the road to pull over and experience. Road tripping takes more time than flying. If COVID taught me anything about work-life balance, it’s that it’s important to spend as much time as I can with my family and friends doing the things we love,” Miller said.

Knowing The Risk Factors Can Help Reverse Prediabetes WDIO
Knowing The Risk Factors, Can Help Reverse Prediabetes – WDIO https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/knowing-the-risk-factors-can-help-reverse-prediabetes-wdio/
According to the CDC, about 37 million Americans suffer from diabetes. That’s 1 in 10 people. And when it comes to prediabetes, it’s around 4 in 10 people. In short, diabetes affects an astounding number of people, but there are things we can do.
Kelli Timmersman, the Director of Healthy Living at the Duluth Area YMCA, stopped by The Lift to talk prevention, “Type 2 diabetes is when you body become resistant to insulin so you are no longer able to successfully use the glucose that you put into your body.” She adds we might be a risk due to a variety of factors which include:
Having an immediate family member who suffers from diabetes
Those over the age of 45
Being overweight, having high blood pressure
Leading an inactive life style
Being diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy
You can watch out for pre-diabetes by looking out for these risk factors or getting a blood sugar test at the doctors. This test offered through the CDC can help you with your own self-assessment.
There are preventative measures you can take, like simply getting moving and being mindful of what you eat. The Duluth Area Family YMCA offers a free class that can help foster lifestyle changes. You can visit the Duluth Area YMCA’s website for more information. The next class is on October 4th.

Alibaba Dives Deeper Into The Metaverse With New Immersive Luxury Shopping Experience – NFTgators https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/alibaba-dives-deeper-into-the-metaverse-with-new-immersive-luxury-shopping-experience-nftgators/
Quick take:
Alibaba has launched a new immersive luxury shopping experience in the metaverse.
Dubbed the Tmall Luxury Pavilion, the luxury shopping platform has been upgraded to host an AR fashion show accessible via a brand-exclusive gate pass Meta Pass.
Alibaba’s immersive shopping experience currently offers try-on for products, digital avatars and digital collectibles.
Alibaba has launched the Tmall Luxury Pavillion, a deeper immersive luxury shopping experience. The shopping platform will host an AR fashion show accessible to select brands. The platform will be updated with a series of digital upgrades and events this month.
China has been one of the leading early adopters of the metaverse, with its largest technology companies driving the adoption.
Its two largest cities Shanghai and Beijing have already rolled out plans for the citywide deployment of web3 products, including incubation programs for early-stage startups.
Alibaba’s investment in the extended reality market picked up steam at the end of March this year after leading AR glasses maker Nreal’s $60 million funding round.
And now, the company seems set on utilising that technology to onboard luxury brands to its intuitive metaverse platform.
Commenting on her company’s new immersive luxury shopping experience, Janet Wang, head of Alibaba’s luxury division said: “Before “metaverse” became a buzzword, we had already transformed this buzzword into a commercial reality.”
Wang was referring to the Tmall Luxury Pavillion, which marked its 5th-anniversary last week.
Leading brands like Richemont, Kering, LVMH and OTB have already showcased their products on the platform allowing visitors to try the, on in an immersive XR experience.
The company has now scheduled an AR fashion show in collaboration with Vogue China and a list of top artists on September 22.
The company will hand some of the followers of fashion within Alibaba’s ecosystem a free Meta Pass, giving them entry into the company’s metaverse.
“The digital world can provide consumers with the same, or even better, shopping experiences and luxury-brand identities than in the real world,” Wang added.
The metaverse has become a focal point of retail brands, especially those involved in the fashion industry.
Companies are leveraging its rapid adoption by consumers to form deeper connections with their customers whilst exploring alternative revenue channels. Nike has already demonstrated how companies can achieve success by combining their brand authority with NFTs.
Overall, the metaverse is predicted to reach a market value of about $5 trillion by 2030 according to a report published by Mckinsey in June.

A: It’s important. He’s really done a good job since we’ve been here. I think he’s bought into what we’re trying to do. I think he’s had a really good camp, and that’s led into a strong start to the season. I have a lot of confidence in him, and I’m glad he’s part of our team.
Q: And just specifically, the way you guys are going to play with so much pressure and so aggressive, you really can’t do that probably if your corners aren’t capable of f playing on an island. Like some systems, you maybe hide a corner; it feels like here you probably can’t.
A: I think (defensive coordinator) Wink (Martindale) does a good job though of mixing up. There’s a variety of way to play to pressure, as I know Wink has talked to you about. You can bring only four guys and consider it a pressure and do different things on the back end in terms of your coverage systems. I think Wink does a good job of mixing that up, and Adoree’s been a very dependable player for us.
Q: I wanted to ask you about the start of the last two weeks. The offense has kind of gotten off to a slow start as compared to the second half of the games. What can you do to maybe expedite things a little bit, get them going on a faster tempo and being more productive as far as scoring opportunities?
A: That’s an important part of the game for us is trying to get off for a fast start. That doesn’t always happen. The last two games are the only two games to go by in terms of the regular season. So, we’ll continue to work at that and put together some good openers. It takes everybody – the coaching, the playing – everybody. And it’s something we’ll work on.
Q: Is it possible that you might consider like an up-tempo or a no huddle offense to kind of jump start things?
A: I think we go into the week and the game trying to put together the best plan we can. And I think the offensive coaches do a really good job. Again, we haven’t had the results that we’re hoping for, but I believe in the process and the preparation that those guys do. We’ll continue to try to do a better job at that.
Q: I know you’ve been talking about competition and that leading into playing time and the way players are used in the games since training camp. A lot of coaches talk about that, not a lot of coaches always follow through on that. It seems like they just throw everybody out there the way things were. A – do you think that players believed you before the season started, that that’s the way you were going to treat things? And two – is it difficult for the players to accept that kind of role?
A: I think those are two good questions; I think they’re best questions for those guys. All we try to do is the very best we can as a coaching staff; we have high standards in terms of going out there, preparing well, practicing well. Each week is a different week. I know we talked about this yesterday. The receivers, Slay (wide receiver Darius Slayton), he was active but had a few reps. Kenny (wide receiver Kenny Golladay) didn’t have a lot. And if you look at the defensive side, sometimes it’s planned. You know, (inside linebacker Austin) Calitro had five. In the previous week, he had 40-plus. So, we’ll try to do what we think is best for our football team. I think that’s the most important. I think you just are open and honest with the players of what their role is, what they need to do to improve and let those guys go out there and compete it off each week. Again, we’re kind of at the introductory stages of our program and what we’re trying to do, and I think competition is the best thing for everybody.
Q: When you make a decision when it pertains one of the highest paid players of the team, do you have to check above you to make that call? I’m talking about Kenny, obviously. Do you have to check with (general manager) Joe (Schoen) or (president and chief executive officer) John (Mara) and make sure that’s okay?
A: Joe and I collaborate on pretty much everything in our building. I bounce ideas off of him; he bounces ideas off of us. I think something we want to create is as competitive of a team as we can. And regardless of where you’re drafted, how you got here, how much money you make, we believe in everybody goes out there and competes, and we play the guys that earn the right to play that week.
Q: Any (defensive lineman) Leonard Williams update?
A: It’s his knee. But it’s better than it could be. So, he’s day-to-day. He said he feels a lot better than he did yesterday. He’s walking around, so we’ll just take it like we normally do with these things each day. So, hopefully he’s a fast healer.
Q: So that day-to-day means?
A: Day-to-day.
Q: Another defensive question for you, I guess two parts. What did you think of the way Dane Belton (safety) played, and how did his play allow you to do some different things defensively with (safety Xavier) McKinney and (safety Julian) Love?
A: It was good to have him out there. I thought he played fast. It was his first NFL play, and he recovered a fumble there on the kickoff. He’s been a guy, as a young player, that’s been right in the back hip of those guys when he was injured. You can tell his preparation paid off. Just like a lot of the guys, there’s certain things he can improve on, like all of us. I thought he played fast. It was good to have him out there in terms of the defensive packages. I think that’s something each week. You go into a game, offensively you look at things. What do you like to do? How do you like to match up? We certainly do that there, and Wink does a great job, along with the defensive staff, of figuring out what we need to do for that particular week. So, for this week, it was good relative to how Carolina played the weapons that they had and the matchups we thought were in favor of us if we played it a certain way.
Q: A bunch of your players in the locker room, and you said it before, they said one of the keys to this team is they’re not afraid of failure. I’m not 100 percent sure what that means, but are there examples of that that you coached in yesterday’s game that show us that you’re not afraid of failure?
A: Well, I think that you can get bogged down in this league pretty quick by making a mistake and letting it affect the next play. The other thing I think for play callers is you put together a plan you prepare during the week. You explain it to the players, and then when you get into that situation, I’ve been there before, (you think), ‘Oh boy, should I really call this?’ I think (offensive coordinator) Mike (Kafka) – I think that was a great example at the end of the game there with the pass play that Mike called and put it in DJ’s (quarterback Daniel Jones) hands. I think we really had good communication from Mike to the quarterback. Again, that was discussed probably a couple plays before. He knew the play he wanted to go to. And then those two plays, back-to-back plays, where (safety) Tony Jefferson made the tackle on (Panthers running back) Christian McCaffrey. That was a great play; one of the plays of the game that allowed us to get to third-down and get that sack with Julian (Love). Pretty aggressive play calls, I’d say both on Mike’s end and on Wink’s end. So, again, I want them to be themselves, play fast, play free, move onto the next play. We all make mistakes. I’m probably the leader of that. Once you make them, don’t let it linger. Move onto the next play. The next step is the most important.
Q: Would an example of that (be) – tell me if I’m on that mark with this or not – about maybe not worrying about consequences and have the conviction. You call for (running back) Gary Brightwell, Mike makes that call. (Running back) Saquon (Barkley) is in the backfield. So, if Gary Brightwell drops the ball or gets stopped for no gain, it’s easy for me to come to you and say, ‘Just give it to Saquon.’ Isn’t that the easiest thing to do? Why do you give it to a guy that has one career rush? So, is that also like, ‘I’m not afraid to fail in that situation because I believe in this play?’
A: Yeah. I think – well again – our job as a coaching staff is to do the very best we can to prepare those guys and put plays in that we think are going to work. You’re never sitting up there at night drawing up a play going, ‘Boy, let’s call this play. We only got probably about a 10 percent chance to hit it.’ You spend a lot of time on it. Do they all work? Absolutely not. There’s been times where – let’s just call it a gadget-y play or a trick play or maybe something’s that a little bit unique that I’ve called – that it hasn’t worked. And you can’t worry about the criticism that you’re going to get with it if you believe in that play and you think that’s the right thing. And that happens quite a bit, but you have to, again, have conviction in it. That’s why you’re putting the play in or the defense in or the special teams play in, and you just don’t pick it out of a hat. You work at it. You evaluate it. You practice it. There’s been times where you think it’s going to work. You go out there and practice it a couple times during the week, and by Friday night or Friday after practice, you’re throwing it away. So, that’s the job of the coaching staff. That’s what we’ll always try to do here. And I’m pleased with how those guys prepare and the preparation that they put in, much like the players.
Q: How difficult is it as a play caller when you’re not having success with the run to stick with it in the second half, and how would you evaluate Saquon’s game yesterday? Obviously, it wasn’t the same numbers as the first game, but in many ways, it wa...
