How To Disable The Always-On Display On Your IPhone 14 Pro Or 14 Pro Max — Temporarily Or Permanently – Gadget Hacks https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/how-to-disable-the-always-on-display-on-your-iphone-14-pro-or-14-pro-max-temporarily-or-permanently-gadget-hacks/ An always-on display isn’t for everyone. If you aren’t happy about your iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max’s display being visible all the time, even when you press the Side button to lock the screen, there’s an easy way to make the screen act like any other iPhone screen. The always-on display is actually a pretty helpful feature if you use lock screen widgets, so you can always have vital information just a glance away. Even the wallpaper can be a handy piece of glanceable data if you’re using the weather wallpaper that updates in real time. And it does this with minimal effects on your overall battery life since it uses minimal power and a low refresh rate. Don’t Miss: All 350+ New iOS 16 Features for Your iPhone Instead of disabling the always-on display, you can make the display go completely dark whenever you don’t want to look at it, like when in a movie theater or when driving at night. To temporarily sleep the screen: Lay your iPhone face down. Put your iPhone in a pocket, bag, or similar place. Use an iPhone pouch or folio case. Turn on Low Power Mode. Activate the Sleep focus. Connect your iPhone to CarPlay. According to Apple, the always-on display will also go completely dark when: Using your iPhone as a Continuity Camera. You haven’t used your iPhone in a while (it will learn your routine and know when to sleep the screen or keep it active based on your daily patterns). You’re wearing a paired Apple Watch and move away from the iPhone (the display will go back to always-on when you and your Watch are close again). If you want to disable the always-on display permanently or for more time than any of the above options provide, go to “Display & Brightness” in the Settings app. From there, scroll down and toggle off the “Always On” switch. SEC Charges Crypto Influencer Ian Balina Over Unregistered ICO In 2018 Decrypt
SEC Charges Crypto Influencer Ian Balina Over Unregistered ICO In 2018 – Decrypt https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/sec-charges-crypto-influencer-ian-balina-over-unregistered-ico-in-2018-decrypt/ The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged crypto influencer Ian Balina, alleging the crypto personality did not file a registration statement with the commission for his offering and sale of Sparkster’s SPRK tokens, and no exemption from registration was applicable.  He also allegedly failed to disclose the compensation he received while promoting Sparkster’s SPRK initial coin offering (ICOICO) on social media, according to the SEC. Sparkster offered investors a slice of its “no-code” software development platform by purchasing SPRK tokens, which claimed to allow users to develop software with minimal technical coding skills. A product demo can still be viewed here. The SEC seeks “injunctive relief, disgorgement, civil penalties, and other appropriate and necessary equitable relief.” If the charges hold, it would mean Balina would be unable to promote securities again.  The filing also argues that contributions made in Ethereum (ETH) to participate in the ICO all took place in the United States. “[Users’] ETH contributions were validated by a network of nodes on the Ethereum blockchain, which are clustered more densely in the United States than in any other country,” the filing reads. “As a result, those transactions took place in the United States.” The influencer took to Twitter to announce that he was “excited to take this fight public.” “This frivolous SEC charge sets a bad precedent for the entire crypto industry,” he added. “If investing in a private sale with a discount is a crime, the entire crypto VC space is in trouble.” Excited to take this fight public. This frivolous SEC charge sets a bad precedent for the entire crypto industry. If investing in a private sale with a discount is a crime, the entire crypto VC space is in trouble. Turned down settlement so they have to prove themselves. pic.twitter.com/lVaqnnsLgT — Ian Balina (@DiaryofaMadeMan) September 19, 2022 Balina boasted around 143,000 Twitter followers and 110,000 YouTube subscribers at the time of writing, alongside books on Amazon and Audible, and mainstream media appearances in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, and Forbes. The Uganda-born entrepreneur left his sales role at IBM to promote crypto full time in 2017, with content such as “How to Make Millions with Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs)” racking up hundreds of thousands of views. Decrypt has yet to receive commentary from Balina at press time. Balina’s Sparkster ICO promotion Balina gave the token a 90% “Hall of Fame” ranking on his ICO investing spreadsheet and promoted it to users of a private Telegram group of around 50 people, according to the SEC’s filing.  The Cayman islands-incorporated firm is now defunct, with the last tweet from their company account being made in 2021. The SPRK ICO, which the SEC confirmed was unregistered, took place between April and July 2018, raising approximately $30 million from nearly 4,000 investors located abroad and in the United States. Balina allegedly signed a contract to invest approximately $5 million in the Sparkster offering before promoting the offered SPRK tokens on YouTube, Telegram, and other social media platforms.  Although the SEC claimed he agreed to receive a 30% bonus from Sparkster on the tokens he purchased in the Sparkster Offering, Balina allegedly never publicly disclosed the consideration he received for his promotion. Mark Frerichs Exchanged For Taliban Warlord Bashir Noorzai In Kabul The Washington Post
Mark Frerichs Exchanged For Taliban Warlord Bashir Noorzai In Kabul – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/mark-frerichs-exchanged-for-taliban-warlord-bashir-noorzai-in-kabul-the-washington-post/ correction An earlier version of this article incorrectly said Bashir Noorzai had been held in Guantánamo Bay. He was serving his life sentence in a federal penitentiary. The article has been corrected. PESHAWAR, Pakistan — American Mark Frerichs, a civilian contractor who was abducted in Kabul over two years ago, was freed in exchange for an Afghan detainee held in U.S. federal prison, U.S. and Afghan officials said Monday. Frerichs’s family hailed his release in a statement, saying they were “grateful and excited to learn that he has been freed” after being held for more than 2½ years. “Our family has prayed for this each day,” Charlene Cakora, his sister, said in the statement from Camden Advisory Group, which has been advocating for his release. “We never gave up hope that he would survive and come home safely to us.” President Biden applauded the freeing of Frerichs, who U.S. officials said was now in U.S. care in Doha, Qatar. “Bringing the negotiations that led to Mark’s freedom to a successful resolution required difficult decisions, which I did not take lightly,” he said in a statement. U.S. officials said Frerichs’s release capped months of negotiations between senior U.S. officials and the Taliban, the insurgent group that has governed Afghanistan in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal last year. To obtain his freedom, the official said, the U.S. government released detainee Bashir Noorzai (also known as Haji Bashir Noorzai) — a warlord and drug trafficker with ties to the Taliban — who was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to life in federal prison after being lured to the United States and arrested in 2005. In Kabul, acting Afghan foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi hailed Noorzai’s release. “This will open a new chapter in the bilateral relations between the United States and Afghanistan,” he said at a news conference in Kabul that was broadcast by local television outlets. “We have been persistent in our efforts to free [Noorzai], and now he is with us in his own country,” Muttaqi continued. He said the two men were swapped at Kabul’s international airport. Senior U.S. officials, who spoke to reporters on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive negotiations, said Frerichs was in “stable health” and was being offered U.S. support. They declined to provide details on where Frerichs was kept during his long captivity or which faction of the Taliban had held him. Frerichs’s release underscores the delicate path the Biden administration must tread in its dealings with Afghanistan’s new leaders, whom the United States fought for two decades before they took over after the collapse of the U.S.-backed government last year. The United States, like other nations, has not officially recognized the Taliban government, but U.S. officials have engaged with it regularly as they seek to provide aid to Afghans and advocate for the rights of women and girls as the Taliban has imposed new restrictions on them. Last week, the Taliban condemned a move by the United States to redirect $3.5 billion of the country’s frozen central bank reserves to a fund run in part by Swiss government officials and Afghan economic experts. The Frerichs deal comes just weeks after the United States conducted a drone strike in downtown Kabul that killed al-Qaeda’s top militant, an incident that highlighted the Taliban’s ongoing ties to terror organizations and posed a major setback to any potential normalization of U.S. ties with the group. One U.S. official said that the Biden administration told Taliban leaders after that strike “that we would hold them directly responsible if any harm were to come to Mark, and that the best way they might begin to rebuild trust with the United States with the world was to immediately release [him], and that didn’t happen immediately.” “If the Taliban are as interested as they say they are in normal relations with the international community, then that practice must resolutely end,” another official said. Officials said there was a “narrow window of opportunity” following Biden’s initial decision this summer to potentially grant Noorzai clemency. They contrasted Noorzai’s conviction with the fact that Frerichs had been in Afghanistan for work. The release of Frerichs comes as the Biden administration attempts to secure the release of two Americans it says are being wrongly held by Russia, potentially via another prisoner swap. George reported from Islamabad, Pakistan. Ryan reported from Washington.

Drug Detection: ONR SCOUT Tests Tech For Monitoring Illicit Maritime Cargo DVIDS
Drug Detection: ONR SCOUT Tests Tech For Monitoring Illicit Maritime Cargo DVIDS
Drug Detection: ONR SCOUT Tests Tech For Monitoring Illicit Maritime Cargo – DVIDS https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/drug-detection-onr-scout-tests-tech-for-monitoring-illicit-maritime-cargo-dvids/ ARLINGTON, Va.—To improve capabilities for monitoring aircraft and vessels carrying illicit maritime cargo such as drugs — for longer periods of time and over greater distances — the Office of Naval Research (ONR)-sponsored SCOUT initiative recently conducted a dynamic experimentation event at Joint Expeditionary Base (JEB) Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia, at the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay. The goal of the event was to find creative solutions to pinpoint “dark targets” — aircraft or watercraft operating with little to no radio-frequency signatures — found in maritime operating areas covered by the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S). It sought ways to use unmanned technologies to expand intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities beyond those of traditional maritime patrol aircraft such as the P-3 Orion and P-8 Poseidon. JIATF-S currently works with U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) and partner naval forces to leverage all-domain technologies and unmanned capabilities to target, detect and monitor illicit drug trafficking in the air and maritime domains. This facilitates interdiction and apprehension to reduce the flow of drugs, as well as degrade and dismantle transnational criminal organizations. ONR SCOUT is an ongoing, multiagency experimentation campaign for identifying alternative ways to bring unmanned technologies to warfighter problems, operationalize them and bring them to scale. SCOUT is committed to getting nontraditional, commercial-off-the-shelf, government-developed and/or government-sponsored technologies to the fleet rapidly. “SCOUT is an innovation vehicle and investment strategy for the rapid development of autonomous platforms that address today’s warfighter challenges,” said Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Lorin Selby. “Through experimentation with partners like JIATF-S, we can connect innovators, industry, acquisition professionals and fleet stakeholders to attack and solve key operational problems.” “This is a pressing issue for JIATF-S because every day multiple suspect vessels are near and in the area of operations conducting illicit trafficking,” said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Duane Zitta, JIATF-S chief of operational demonstration and experimentation. “Because of this vast area, JIATF-S is looking for alternative capabilities and technologies to provide unmanned counter-operations that can detect and monitor suspect activity, ultimately helping prevent illegal movement to the United States.” The JEB Little Creek-Fort Story experimentation event was a partnership involving ONR SCOUT, JIATF-S, the Naval Research and Development Establishment, and industry partners in the Chesapeake Bay area. It was one of multiple sprint events (scenario-based demonstrations of technology capabilities and characteristics) held this year that will lead to a large-scale main experimentation event in March 2023. During the Chesapeake Bay event, participants engaged in simulated drug-running and -hunting scenarios during “cat-and-mouse” games involving a specialized vessel owned by SOUTHCOM and JIATF-S, a “Gotcha” boat formerly used by drug traffickers and seized by JIATF-S, and various targets of interest. Participants employed sophisticated sensor systems and technologies, ranging from coordinated unmanned aircraft systems to wide-area motion imagery. Data collected during the exercises was fed into an onsite maritime operations center and synthesized, providing operators with real-time information about targets and each technology’s performance. The technology tested at JEB Little Creek-Fort Story will undergo further refinement and improvement before the March 2023 main experimentation event. “ONR’s authorities to engage with industry have vaulted it as our vital technology maturation partner,” said Jeffrey Havlicek, J7 director for Innovation and Technology, JIATF-S. “Cooperative technology truly rises all boats in shared stability of maritime commerce and safety. “We’re grateful for the years of technology maturation efforts that have been advanced by drawing on ONR’s expertise and passion,” he continued. “The best part is we are finding more naval operators just as grateful as we are for advanced capabilities in data synthesis, mission planning, autonomous detection of dark maritime threats, and improved naval logistics automation.” Watch a video about the experimentation event at https://youtu.be/X2G0FgKX2zA. Updates And Trends In Co-Located Fire Stations Firehouse
Updates And Trends In Co-Located Fire Stations – Firehouse https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/updates-and-trends-in-co-located-fire-stations-firehouse/ Over the past several years, we continue to see an increase in shared or co-located public safety facilities. Besides designing facilities for fire and law enforcement agencies, other sites include town or municipal offices, dispatch centers, and justice departments. Locating fire and law enforcement departments offers numerous financial benefits but also there is a trend for fire and police to train and work together. However, costs have also driven fire departments to consider alternatives for satellite fire stations. With the spread of urban and suburban populations, the demand for new and additional satellite stations is increasing as land is difficult to find and afford. Consequently, departments have some unique ways to increase their presence in the community and more affordable ways. Some fire departments looked within their local government to find cost-saving opportunities for satellite stations. Washington Township, OH, is located inside a water tower owned by the City of Dublin and leased to Washington Township. According to the department, Station 95 is only one of four fire stations co-located in water towers.  The Violet Township Fire Department, Pickerington, Ohio, Station 593 was built 15 years ago behind retail stores in a strip mall. According to Fire Chief Mike Little, when the station was built, it was in one of the busiest quarters of the city. Little said the fire chief at the time made a deal with the retail complex to include a garage and medical unit on the first floor of the new apartment building. The station is out of public view, so people are surprised when the department responds from the complex. Station 593 has served the department well, but the department is now talking about relocating the station to a new site and co-locating with a new pre-K school the school district is building. The Violet Township Fire Department is also sharing its newest facility, Station 591, with the Chamber of Commerce. Station 591 was built on the site of the old 591 station. VTFD negotiated a price for the old Chamber of Commerce building and in return, agreed to lease three office spaces in the new fire station. The department has three five-year agreements that stipulate the rent and a clause the Chamber must give a 90-day notice if they leave. The department shares a fitness room and a conference room with the Chamber. Thinking about other co-located stations, in response to a LinkedIn posting, we received numerous sightings of fire stations co-located in commercial locations. After doing research for Atlanta Fire Rescue, Matt Hinds-Aldrich, Ph.D., came across a number of co-located fire stations, including a fire station located on the first floor of a CubeSmart, a six-story self-storage project.  Another LinkedIn message was Lincolnwood, IL, Fire Department’s recently opened satellite station in an assisted living facility. Clark County, NV, Fire Department has a fire station in hotel/casino off the Las Vegas strip. The District of Columbia Fire EMS has satellite stations located within some DC hotels. In Colorado, Breckenridge’s Red-White-Blue Fire Protection District has a station located in a hotel/condo/ski base building. According to Robert Manns, principal, Manns Woodward Studios, Inc., there are several benefits of working with a developer on co-locating a fire station with a commercial or residential complex. “In some instances, it’s also a way of getting a developer to pay for the capital costs,” said Mann. “It’s a win-win-win in some circumstances. City gets fire station. Developer gets land and sometimes tax waivers/incentives. City gets residents. Residents pay taxes.” Mann cautioned, “The tricky part is maintaining the quality of design and construction. With the right contract delivery method and project management team it can be a great solution.” The City of Madison, WI, Fire Department’s Station #1 is part of a public/private partnership. The Ovation 309 is a 14-story, multi-use property featuring 248 residential units along with retail and commercial space and the City’s largest and busiest firehouse. Access between the Fire Station and adjacent administrative offices are housed within the Ovation 309 is provided at the basement, first floor, and mezzanine levels. Where there’s a need to improve service and response time to the community, the fire service is working to find financially responsible ways.

Can You Buy Disneyland Tickets At Costco? SFGATE
Can You Buy Disneyland Tickets At Costco? – SFGATE https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/can-you-buy-disneyland-tickets-at-costco-sfgate/ Many things have changed since the Covid-19 pandemic and Costco selling Disneyland tickets is one of those changes. In the past, you used to be able to get a pretty decent deal on Disneyland tickets at Costco, but not anymore. Costco no longer sells tickets. In fact, you can’t even get Disney gift cards at Costco. Fear not, there are ways to get Disneyland tickets on sale even though Costco no longer offers them. In fact, you can look right to Costco’s direct competitor, Sam’s Club, for an option. First off, if you’re not a Sam’s Club member, you’ll want to take advantage of the offer for new members (get a $45 gift card when you sign up). How to get Disneyland tickets on sale You cannot buy Disneyland tickets at Sam’s Club, either. But what you can buy are Disney gift cards. You can buy them in bulk for a discount, too. So, you’ll want to estimate your Disneyland ticket cost and buy the right gift card amount, and then use that gift card to purchase your Disneyland tickets. For example, you’ll need to buy at least $100 in Disney gift cards if you plan to go even just for one day, as costs start at $104/day and go up to $165/day for single-day tickets. You can get a $500 Disney gift card for $485 at Sam’s Club. It is obviously not a massive discount, but it is still a discount, nonetheless.  Even if you don’t want to buy gift cards to use to purchase your park tickets, you’ll want to take advantage of getting them on sale at Sam’s Club because you can use Disney gift cards on your vacation in the parks on dining and while shopping for souvenirs. If you are traveling to Disney in a few months, you should snag a few discounted Disney cards every other paycheck and stash them away. When you’re going to Disney, you can merge all of your collected gift cards into one online before you travel. If you don’t belong to Sam’s Club or don’t want a bunch of gift cards, but you are a Target Red Card holder, you can buy Disneyland tickets for 5% off at Target. Again, not the biggest discount, but it still is something. Costco Disneyland vacations A Disneyland vacation isn’t totally hopeless for Costco members. While you can’t get tickets on sale there anymore, you still can book a Disneyland vacation package at Costco. When you book a vacation through Costco, you’ll save up to 25% on select Disneyland hotel offers and you’ll get up to $245 in Disney gift cards. The 25% isn’t a Costco discount though, that is just a current Disneyland promotion. The $245 gift card is the only promotional benefit of buying your hotel package through Costco instead of just going to Disneyland’s website. Similarly, if you book at a Disneyland Good Neighbor hotel, you’ll get a $145 Disney gift card. Funny that Costco offers Disney gift cards for promotional offers, but no longer sells them in stores.

US Stocks Edge Higher Ahead Of Expected Interest Rate Hike – 69News WFMZ-TV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-stocks-edge-higher-ahead-of-expected-interest-rate-hike-69news-wfmz-tv/ NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks edged higher in morning trading on Wall Street on Monday as investors brace for another big interest rate increase this week from the Federal Reserve. The S&P 500 rose 0.2% as of 10:18 a.m. Eastern. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 72 points, or 0.2%, to 30,896 and the Nasdaq rose 0.2%. Wall Street remains focused on inflation and the Federal Reserve’s attempt to lower prices by aggressively raising interest rates. On Wednesday, the central bank will announce its latest decision on rates and is expected to raise its benchmark rate, which influences interest rates throughout the economy, another three-quarters of a percentage point. Retailers and banks made solid gains. Home Depot rose 1.5% and Bank of America rose 2%. Health care stocks slipped and tempered gains elsewhere in the market. Pfizer fell 1.6%. The yield on the 2-year Treasury, which tends to follow expectations for Fed action, rose to 3.93% from 3.87% late Friday. The 10-year yield, which influences mortgage rates, rose to 3.47% from 3.45%. The broader market is coming off of its worst week in three months following a surprisingly hot report on inflation and big companies, including FedEx, warning about worsening trends in the economy. Wall Street has been worried that the Fed’s plan to cool the hottest inflation in four decades could be too aggressive and throw the economy into a recession by pumping the brakes on growth too hard. The higher rates also tend to weigh on stocks, especially the pricier technology sector. Investors will get another update on the housing sector on Wednesday when the National Association of Realtors releases August figures for sales of previously occupied homes. Average long-term U.S. mortgage rates climbed above 6% last week for the first time since the housing crash of 2008. The higher rates could make an already tight housing market even more expensive for American homebuyers. Britain was observing a day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II. Germany’s DAX rose 0.8% while the CAC 40 in Paris rose 0.1%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng lost 1% while the Shanghai Composite index shed 0.3%. Japan’s markets were closed for a holiday. Celebrating Trae Young & Dejounte Murray’s Birthdays – Sports Illustrated https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/celebrating-trae-young-dejounte-murrays-birthdays-sports-illustrated/ As the sun gleamed through our kitchen windows this morning, I looked at my beautiful wife and asked if she knew what today was on the calendar. Her eyes lit up before I said, “It’s Trae Young and Dejounte Murray’s birthdays! They have the same birthday. How weird is that?” Her excited expression suddenly melted away. “It’s also our six-month wedding anniversary.” I should probably get used to the morning sunlight’s reflection as I will be sleeping on the couch for the foreseeable future.  There are two lessons to be learned from my unforced error. First, set calendar reminders on your phone. Second, both fans and media alike are really excited about the upcoming Atlanta Hawks season. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray competing during the 2020-21 NBA season. © Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports My matrimonial shortcomings aside, the 2022-23 NBA season is so close we can almost taste it. The Hawks Media Day is this Friday. After that, we all embark on another marathon season. It’s all I’ve been thinking about since Atlanta’s front office pulled off a blockbuster trade for Murray in late June.  Young, 24, and Murray, 26, have not even come close to entering the prime of their careers. Young is coming off a historic individual season that culminated in an All-NBA selection. Murray was named to his first All-Star team despite playing for a San Antonio Spurs team that finished 14 games under .500. Does an All-Star backcourt guarantee success? No. Once again, almost the entire Eastern Conference improved this offseason. Like an episode of the HBO drama Succession, teams keep trying to one-up their competitors in order to win the ultimate prize (except, in this case, an NBA Championship, not Waystar Royco Company). Additionally, it will take time for Young and Murray to gel. Last season, Young had a usage rate of 33.3% and led the NBA in points scored off the pick-and-roll. Meanwhile, Murray had a usage rate of 26.8% and led the Spurs in points and assists. Asking the driver of the Hawks offense to toss the car keys to another player is no small request. But Young is up to the challenge. He has spent all summer preparing to play off the ball to better accommodate Murray. We have seen Young training with Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry and his personal shooting coach. Hawks fans should be excited about their dynamic young backcourt. On paper, this is the best roster since the 2014-15 squad. As always, excitement should be tempered with patience. But today, Young and Murray (as well as Hawks faithful) have reason to celebrate. And while there are plenty of good places to mount your TV, there are a few places where you might want to think twice about it. The bathroom is one of those places. It’s actually about the worst type of environment for any electronic device, but it’s especially bad for TVs. If you’re so hooked on a show you’re streaming that you don’t want to hit pause even for a bathroom break, you may think that mounting a TV above the bath or toilet is a good solution. It’s not. The latter is also one of the reasons why we don’t recommend placing a TV above a fireplace. Even if you have a large, well-ventilated bathroom, it’s likely much more humid than a typical living room.  For example, here’s what Samsung has to say about bathroom TVs: In general, you should not put your Samsung TV in extremely hot, cold, humid or dusty places. Consequently, we recommend that you do not install your Samsung TV in a bathroom or any other room with high humidity. Here’s the relevant section in LG owner’s manual for its 2022 LED LCDs: Do not place the TV and/or remote control in the following environments:  – An area with high humidity such as a bathroom.  – Near kitchen counters or humidifiers where they can easily be exposed to steam or oil.  – Do not expose to dripping or splashing and do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, cups, etc. on or over the apparatus (e.g., on shelves above the unit). Otherwise, this may result in fire, electric shock, combustion/ explosion, malfunction or product deformation. Sony’s TV warranty, for its part, doesn’t cover “contact with liquid, heat, humidity or perspiration,” all of which are pretty much par for the bathroom course. Will humidity destroy the TV instantly? Probably not, and that’s part of the problem. You’ll likely hear or read plenty of anecdotal stories about how someone put a regular TV in their bathroom and it was “fine.” However, these people probably won’t follow up with how the TV later died “for no reason.”  To compound the problem most people will want to put the TV where it’s easily viewable from the tub or shower, namely up out of the way. Unfortunately heat and steam rise, especially when drawn ceiling-ward by a bathroom fan. I could tub here. Getty Images/Phototropic There are waterproof TVs designed for high-humidity areas but, as you’d guess, they’re more expensive than regular models. They also don’t feature names you’d recognize: Elecsung, Soulaca, Haocrown and others. Many have streaming apps built in. Some even double as a mirror when turned off. We haven’t tested any of these models, but they cost at least three or four times as much as standard TVs of similar size. Also, be wary of any lists on sites like Best Buy or Amazon that seem to suggest “bathroom TVs.” These are filled with normal, small TVs that shouldn’t be in a bathroom.  Things to consider for a bathroom TV Add a fridge and I think I could live here. Getty Images/John Keeble Like other waterproof gear, for example headphones and Bluetooth speakers, waterproof TVs should have an IP rating. For example, “IP66-Certified Waterproof” means it’s sealed against dust and jets of water aimed directly at the device.  Voice control would be a plus, for sure, but don’t expect waterproof TVs to have the same features as a typical TV. For that matter, their smart TV interfaces are likely worse than you’re used to, and might not have all the streaming services you’d want. Check user reviews carefully, if you can find any. What’s not important? Resolution. Don’t worry if the TV is 1080p or 720p. With small TVs you’re not likely to see much of a difference, if any.  Better hope it’s splash-proof. Getty Images/John Keeble It’s also worth checking to see if your Wi-Fi is up to the task. The signal might be strong enough to surf the web while you’re enshrined on your throne, but streaming video is another story. You probably don’t need to get any new gear, just give your current Wi-Fi a tuneup. Check local building codes for any specific regulations for installing or mounting an electrical device in your bathroom. You can also mount a TV in the wall, but that’s well beyond the scope of this guide and likely not something for the average DIYer.  Alternate options (tablets, smart displays and more) Totally natural towel placement. Getty Images/Phototropic Maybe you don’t need a “TV.” Smart home displays like the Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub can fit just about anywhere. They’ll run Netflix and some other streaming services. You won’t get full TV functionality, nor are they waterproof, but they’re cheap and far easier to fit in your bathroom. Just keep them away from the tub.  Another possibility is a simple waterproof Bluetooth speaker. I’ve had one of these in my shower for years. Certainly not a TV, but you can listen to music, news or podcasts. They have the added benefit of being inexpensive and, of course, portable.  Mirror mirror on the wall, play for me The Gilded Age. Haocrown A common option is a tablet, usually with the addition of some kind of stand or bath tray. Certainly risky for an often-expensive device, but it’s easier than mounting a TV in someplace that’s essentially a temporary sauna. It’s also worth noting that most mid- and high-end phones are waterproof. Most tablets are not. So if you can handle a smaller screen, it’s definitely a safer bath-time option. ‘Bathroom TV, you’re the one’ More than ever, we all need a place to relax. I have a close friend with an extremely stressful job who winds down after a long day by watching shows on a tablet while soaking in the tub. I absolutely get it.  Permanently mounting a TV in your bathroom, however, should be approached with caution. These are not good environments for electronics to live in, as evidenced by the warnings and warranties of manufacturers.  With a TV that’s designed for it, or something inexpensive you don’t mind replacing regularly, they’re certainly better than holding your phone with one hand and your toothbrush in the other. Using commercially available data, the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security identified planes operated by Mahan Air, Qeshm Fars Air, and Iran Air flying and transporting goods, including electronic items, to Russia in apparent violation of the Commerce Department’s stringent export controls on Russia. These are the first three Iranian airplanes identified. There are now a total of 183 aircraft identified on the list for apparent violations of U.S. export controls, the department said. New Technology Hopes To Improve Lung Cancer Detection, Treatment In Charlotte County – Wink News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/new-technology-hopes-to-improve-lung-cancer-detection-treatment-in-charlotte-county-wink-news/ CHARLOTTE COUNTY Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer deaths, making up almost 25% of fatal cases in the U.S. annually. Breakthrough technology has been launched in Southwest Florida that could change the course of detection and treatment, saving lives in the process. Lung cancer has few symptoms, which is why most of the time, doctors don’t diagnose patients until the disease is in its late stages. That’s when the five-year survival rate is a scary 3-8%. Thoracic Surgeon Doctor Nikalesh Reddy with ShorePoint Health said early detection of lung cancer is a lifesaver. “If you can catch them early, and you can now give them a good surgical oncological resection, they would have a very good survival,” said Reddy. That’s where the Ion comes in. This new device is now up and running at the ShorePoint Medical Center in Port Charlotte, and it’s the only one in Southwest Florida. Ion lung biopsy machine in Charlotte County. (Credit: WINK News) The doctor-controlled robot navigates the intricate lung pathways. Using the patient’s CT scan as a road map, it snakes an ultra-thin catheter to biopsy suspicious areas. Visualization is critical here. The device delivers a tiny camera into the lung, lit with fiber optics. The camera is roughly two millimeters in diameter and provides high-definition pictures. A needle takes the camera’s place when the flexible probe gets to the right spot. Doctors perform a biopsy in a procedure that may last only 20 minutes. “We have an option to even biopsy a one-centimeter nodule and smaller sub-centimeter with nodules that may be way out in the periphery of the lung, which traditionally, people tend to watch them rather than aggressively go after them,” Reddy said. Traditionally, most lung cancers start as a spot on an x-ray that doctors “watch” because biopsies, before the Ion, involve major surgery. More than 70% of cancerous nodules are found in the outer third of the lung, so being able to biopsy in a low-impact way will lead to earlier detection. “We could potentially just do like almost like a colonoscopy. Nowadays that we do for detecting polyps, you can do the same thing for lung,” said Reddy. The program’s goal is to one day biopsy, diagnose and surgically remove cancer during the same procedure, saving time and saving lives. Because lung cancer has few symptoms in its early stages, long-time, heavy smokers are eligible for a low-dose CT scan to look for suspicious areas and would greatly benefit from this new technology.

Ravens Snap-Count Analysis: CB Marcus Peters Rejoins Secondary On Ugly Day For Defense – OCRegister https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ravens-snap-count-analysis-cb-marcus-peters-rejoins-secondary-on-ugly-day-for-defense-ocregister/ The Ravens eased cornerback Marcus Peters back into their rotation on a day when their defense gave up 28 fourth-quarter points in an ugly collapse. On offense, they could not settle on a No. 1 running back as their ground game continued to sputter. Ravens offensive snap counts vs. Miami Dolphins 9/18/22 Ben Powers G 59 Kevin Zeitler G 59 Patrick Mekari T 59 Morgan Moses T 59 Tyler Linderbaum C 59 Lamar Jackson QB 59 Mark Andrews TE 49 Patrick Ricard FB 38 Rashod Bateman WR 36 Devin Duvernay WR 32 Josh Oliver TE 28 Demarcus Robinson WR 23 Justice Hill RB 21 Isaiah Likely TE 21 Mike Davis RB 18 Kenyan Drake RB 15 Tylan Wallace WR 9 Daniel Faalele T 5 Observations: None of the running backs played more than 36% of the team’s offensive snaps as the Ravens continued to scrape for production from their backfield. They again turned to Drake first, but he did not produce, and Hill ended up playing the most. Ricard played more snaps than any running back or wide receiver. Again, they did not work any of their wide receivers particularly hard; Bateman led the way, playing 61% of offensive snaps, with Duvernay (who left the game late with a concussion) right behind him as a clear No. 2 and Robinson as the No. 3. Oliver played more snaps than Likely despite Likely’s greater production as a receiver. The Ravens kept the same offensive line, with Mekari at left tackle, on the field for every snap, though they did use Faalele as a sixth lineman in short-yardage situations. Ravens defensive snap counts vs. Miami Dolphins 9/18/22 Chuck Clark SS 71 Marcus Williams FS 71 Patrick Queen LB 71 Odafe Oweh LB 58 Marlon Humphrey CB 56 Justin Houston LB 49 Calais Campbell DT 45 Marcus Peters CB 44 Jalyn Armour-Davis DB 38 Kyle Hamilton DB 38 Damarion Williams DB 37 Josh Bynes LB 37 Justin Madubuike DT 36 Broderick Washington DT 35 Michael Pierce NT 35 Malik Harrison LB 24 Brent Urban DE 22 Geno Stone SS 8 Daryl Worley CB 5 Steven Means LB 1 Observations: A groin injury limited Humphrey to 79% of the team’s defensive snaps, and the Ravens were careful with Peters’ workload after he missed all of last season and the opener as he recovered from a torn ACL. With their starting cornerbacks out on some key plays, they threw rookies Armour-Davis and Damarion Williams into a trial by fire. Given the secondary’s catastrophic performance in the fourth quarter and the injury questions still swirling, it will be fascinating to see how the rotation shakes out in the weeks to come. Otherwise, defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald’s usage patterns did not change much from Week 1. The interior linemen shared their load fairly evenly, with Campbell playing the most snaps this time around. Queen again played every defensive snap, though he did not have a good game in coverage. Harrison maintained his modest role in the absence of Tyus Bowser, who will miss at least two more games. ()

Don’t Make These 5 Award Travel Mistakes When Redeeming Credit Card Rewards For Flights – The Motley Fool https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/dont-make-these-5-award-travel-mistakes-when-redeeming-credit-card-rewards-for-flights-the-motley-fool/ Image source: Getty Images You can avoid award travel nightmares by taking proper steps.  Key points Using credit card points and miles to book flights is a great way to make your next trip more affordable.  But if you’re not careful, you could make mistakes that cost you. Be sure to check your flight options, review fees and taxes, and don’t wait until the last minute to book your flight. As a frequent traveler, I’m a big fan of travel rewards cards. Using credit cards to earn rewards and redeem them for free or nearly-free travel makes me and my bank account happy. But it’s too easy to make redemption mistakes when redeeming rewards for flights. The good news is if you know what to watch out for, you can avoid making costly errors. Are you planning to book an award flight for an upcoming vacation? Find out what you need to know so you don’t make a big mistake that negatively impacts your personal finances.  1. Not checking flight availability  Transferring your points or miles to a travel partner is a great way to maximize the value that you receive. But you don’t want to hurry through the process. If you rush to transfer your points or miles over before checking flight availability, you may find out there are no flight options for your preferred travel dates. Always verify availability first so you’re not stuck.  2. Forgetting to review taxes and fees  You’re responsible for paying the taxes and fees when you redeem credit card rewards for flights. For some carriers and journeys, fees are affordable. But that’s not always the case.  Some airlines are known for charging high fees, which could cost you. The best practice is to review fees before you book an award flight. That way, you don’t accidentally go over your vacation budget.  3. Traveling during the busy season While you may be able to find an affordable award flight during busy travel months or around the holidays, that isn’t always the case. Why? Because more travelers are flying at that time.   If there is flight availability, you will likely need to use more points or miles for your flight. If you’re flexible with your dates, traveling during the offseason can get more value.  4. Waiting until the last minute to book Similarly to regular travel bookings, it can be advantageous to book award flights well before your travel dates arrive. This way, you can score a better deal. If you wait until only a few weeks or a couple of months before you plan to travel, you may have to pay more than you intend.  5. Using the card issuer’s rewards portal to book a flight  Many travel rewards cards have branded travel booking portals available to use. While this can be a convenient way to plan and book your next trip, it may not be the best move to make.  Why? You may be stuck if you need to make changes or problems arise later. It’s best to book directly with your airline of choice to have the best customer service experience possible. You can do this by transferring your points or miles and booking directly with travel transfer partners.  Travel credit cards are valuable, and they can unlock money-saving travel opportunities.  Make sure you think ahead before redeeming credit card rewards for your next flight. With proper planning, you can score an excellent deal and maximize your award flight value.  Are you interested in earning travel rewards with a credit card? In this role, Sugerman will oversee the integration of Centr and Inspire Fitness, which were acquired by leading consumer focused investment firm HighPost Capital, as well as the growth of both businesses globally. Sugerman is joining Centr after spending more than a decade at the Walt Disney Company where he oversaw the rapid expansion of the Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm franchises across mobile apps, short-form content, AR and VR, books, magazines, and comics. While at Disney, he also developed and led the expansion of Disney English, a multi-location business in China that set the benchmark for the way children learn English. Most recently, Sugerman served as President for Sketchy, a leading online education company that teaches complex concepts through visual memory techniques. With this growth, Centr will enter a new category of health and launch state-of-the-art fitness equipment, powered by Inspire Fitness, a trusted leader in at-home strength equipment. Later this year Centr will release the Fitness Essentials Kit, the brand’s first-to-market product, that will also include a free subscription to the brand’s complete library of digital fitness training, nutritional advice and mental health tools. The brand is also preparing for continued expansion of their digital content and equipment through 2023, that will fulfill their mission of making health and fitness accessible, achievable, and fun. Zsofi Paterson will continue to lead Centr’s Australia operations, and Jeff Laborde will continue to lead the Inspire business and help support the growth of the combined company. Centr has also recently attracted senior executive hires, including: Jerry Solomon, Chief Operating Officer, who most recently led Motor Trend Group as COO and served as Studio Managing Director of The Enthusiast Network; Tricia Teschke, Vice President of Marketing, who previously led marketing, brand, and fan growth strategy for the LA Clippers. Since bringing together Centr and Inspire earlier this year, one of our top priorities has been to identify a CEO who could deliver on the promise and potential of this new company. Buffalo made a statement in Week 1, crushing the defending Super Bowl champion in Los Angeles. It firmly planted itself as a team to watch, if not a serious Super Bowl contender, in 2022. It can add to that statement Monday night when it takes on Tennessee. The Titans have been one of the AFC’s best teams the past three years, but they will have some work to do to restore their reputation in 2022. Things didn’t go well in Week 1; Randy Bullock’s potential game-winning field goal kick sailed wide to seal a 21-20 loss to the Giants at home.  They can rekindle the hype with a win over Josh Allen and the Bills. After just one week, Buffalo is already seen as one of the league’s best teams. Coach Mike Vrabel can start to course-correct the Titans’ season and put the disappointing end to their 2021 campaign in the rearview mirror with a statement of win of their own. Sound On In The Metaverse: Why It’s Just The Beginning For Virtual Concerts – Muse By Clio https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/sound-on-in-the-metaverse-why-its-just-the-beginning-for-virtual-concerts-muse-by-clio/ Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in the metaverse. Welcome to our new reality. The metaverse is opening up a new portal for musicians and fans to experience concerts in a digital dimension. Several artists, including Lil Nas X, Charli XCX and Foo Fighters, have already hosted virtual concerts, and many more have announced upcoming shows. This year, the 64th Grammy Awards were presented in Roblox, and the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) debuted a new category for Best Metaverse Performance, further cementing the metaverse as a venue for artists to host concerts and tours. What seemed like a lockdown alternative is now here to stay, and, with a shiny award up for grabs, digital artists will be upleveling what a metaverse performance can offer. The MTV VMA Best Metaverse Performance award noted not only the artist but also the host platform, giving a reason for video games and virtual venues to ramp up their efforts as the competition is quite literally on. According to MTV, the category garnerned more than 320 million votes. The winners, K-pop band Blackpink’s The Virtual performance in PUBG Mobile, was more than just a concert with opportunities for attendees to show off their dance moves, adorn their avatars with angelic wings and play mini-games. The interactive metaverse performance triumphed over five other contenders, including fellow K-pop group BTS in Minecraft and Ariana Grande’s Rift Tour concert in Fortnite. “We saw the opportunity to highlight and honor some of the best, most impactful executions of this—and celebrate artists who have found creative ways to use these spaces—which led to the addition of Best Metaverse Category this year,” a spokesperson for MTV said when the award was announced. The concept of the digital concert is gaining popularity; 78 percent of people who have heard of the metaverse say they would be interested in attending one, according to a July 2021 global survey by Wunderman Thompson. Early in-game live concerts have already attracted millions of attendees. Marshmello’s 2019 show in Fortnite attracted 10.7 million fans, while Travis Scott’s Astronomical 2020 performance in the same game drew 12.3 million concurrent players, according to Epic Games. “I think fans want new experiences,” explains Kimberly Knoller, chief marketing officer at music metaverse gaming platform company Pixelynx. “The passive experience of streaming music won’t be enough to keep fans engaged as they have so many places to spend their time.” Existing video games have become an important stage for artists as there are already millions of engaged players, but new virtual worlds are also taking off as music venues. Pixelynx is an example of a company that offers virtual world platforms where musicians can launch interactive experiences. “At Pixelynx, we fully believe that the music metaverse offers artists a new canvas for creativity and a new format for fans to experience music that is immersive,” says Knoller. The company gives more control to artists with its virtual ecosystem, where musicians can launch and gamify their experiences. Hosting in the metaverse is also changing music production. Weav Music aims to power music in the metaverse by allowing it to be adaptive and work within interactive experiences such as video games and extended reality. Weav’s work results in music compositions that can change in real time within a non-linear format, making the experience feel personalized. Interactive three-dimensional virtual worlds have become destinations for live events, group gatherings and creativity. These places, powered by gaming mechanisms, will pave the way for the next generation. “Everyone born today is a gamer,” says author Matthew Ball in a 2021 article, “which means there are 140 million new gamers every year.” This comment correlates with the rising number of active video gamers. In 2015, there were just over two billion gamers around the world—in 2022, that figure is predicted to reach three billion, according to a survey by Statista. By 2024, there will be a projected 3.3 billion gamers. Incorporating gaming experiences that are social and interactive will be a crucial component of virtual worlds. As technology advances, so will the future virtual stage. “I think music performances in the metaverse will continue to evolve,” says Knoller. “I believe interactive and participatory experiences for fans in the music metaverse will become part of the marketing mix for artists, just like music videos became when MTV arrived.”

One Of S Korea’s Biggest Card Issuers Launches Blockchain-Powered Platform To Help Customers Spot Fake Goods – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/one-of-s-koreas-biggest-card-issuers-launches-blockchain-powered-platform-to-help-customers-spot-fake-goods-cryptonews/ Source: Daniel Bernard/Unsplash Shinhan Card, South Korea’s biggest credit card company and a global top-five credit card issuer, has launched a blockchain-powered digital warranty service used to certify the authenticity of products.  South Korean news outlet Money Today has reported that the warranty service is first coming to BGZT – a Seoul-based startup operating a used goods sales platform with which Shinhan Card signed a partnership to expand their strategic alliance on platform businesses about a year ago.  When customers purchase goods from BGZT’s three stores in Seoul, they can scan a QR code on the purchased product and receive a digital warranty. They can then check detailed information on the product on Shinhan’s pLay mobile application, whether or not the product was purchased with Shinhan Card’s credit or debit cards.  The service is expected to checkmate the sale of fake goods. The companies say they plan to sell 10,000 products that can be certified with the digital warranty service by the end of 2022.  Shinhan Card says it will expand the service by continuing to sign partnerships with more retailers and manufacturers in the country. A company spokesperson also stated that Shinhan Card will keep developing more blockchain-backed services for use in day-to-day life.  “We will increase the credibility of used products by introducing more secure blockchain technologies and offering better customer experiences. We will keep developing diverse blockchain-backed payment services used in day-to-day life by partnering with more manufacturers and retailers,” the company official said.  Blockchain adoption in South Korea gaining ground but still faces regulatory pushback   The digital warranty service is not the first blockchain-powered product companies in the Shinhan Bank conglomerate have launched. Back in 2020, Shinhan Card became the first credit card issuer in the world to obtain a patent for a blockchain-based payment system after initially announcing its plans in 2019.  Similarly, Shinhan Bank launched a blockchain-based KYC solution in partnership with ICONLOOP in 2020 – becoming the first to commercialize decentralized identity (DID) service for the financial sector in Korea.  While Shinhan Bank and other South Korean giants like Samsung have continued to push blockchain adoption, blockchain technology and the cryptocurrencies it facilitates have faced significant regulatory pushback in the country.  Cryptocurrencies have attained significant notoriety in South Korea. According to a Bloomberg report in August, cryptocurrencies were the largest contributors to illegal foreign exchange transactions in the country this year. This has made regulators crack down hard on the market, while lawmakers are also working on broad legislation to guide the industry.

Mission Monday: U.S. Space Force Support – Afimsc.af.mil https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/mission-monday-u-s-space-force-support-afimsc-af-mil/ JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – It’s Mission Monday! Maj. Lukas Morse is the Future Enterprise Division deputy chief at the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center’s Detachment 1 Operating Location Alpha at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado. His primary responsibilities revolve around seeking out engineering solutions for installation and mission support concerns impacting the nation’s newest military service. His work involves site assessment, development of future plans and acting as liaison between AFIMSC and its primary support units. Here’s a little more about Morse and how his work contributes to the lethality and readiness of the Department of the Air Force (DAF). What do you love about your job? Each day brings a new set of opportunities requiring innovative solutions for providing premier installation and mission support to the Space Force. When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated? Being able to see the direct results from my actions on various projects and taskers. This includes having the ability to team with various members across the DAF when accomplishing a task. Why are you and your team important to the Air Force enterprise and your customers? As a team the division seeks to identify and advocate for USSF installation infrastructure requirements outside of the normal programming cycles. This in turns helps with the optimization of infrastructure programs to meet future needs.  We also support the installation by seeking out justification and providing enterprise-wide solutions for their installation and mission support concerns. Describe a project or event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment. The division is a new functionality of AFIMSC’s Detachment 1 with most of its members having arrived earlier this year. Being able to take leadership’s intent and develop the roles, responsibilities and initial foundation for the division to continuously build on has provided a great sense of accomplishment.  How does what you do fit within AFIMSC’s strategic priorities? The division meets the “increase lethality and readiness” strategic priority through its actions seeking to support USSF installations with their identification, planning and programming of future requirements. This keeps infrastructure ready, resilient and meeting the operational needs. Is there anything else you’d like to add which might help people understand the importance of what you do for the Air and Space Forces? As a member of AFIMSC’s Detachment 1, there are challenges which arise from supporting a newly formed service.  However, these opportunities give me and others a chance to develop new ways, within allowable guidance, to provide installation and mission support.

Helbiz Releases ParkSense Proprietary AI Parking Validation Technology Business Wire
Helbiz Releases ParkSense — Proprietary AI Parking Validation Technology – Business Wire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/helbiz-releases-parksense-proprietary-ai-parking-validation-technology-business-wire/ September 19, 2022 09:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Helbiz (NASDAQ: HLBZ) today announced the release of ParkSense, an AI-powered parking verification tool that allows Helbiz and other operators to easily be compliant with local regulations. Instead of relying on location data, ParkSense relies on a picture of the parked device from the rider at the end of a trip. The ParkSense tool is able to take into account multiple conditions such as whether the device is properly secured, whether the device impedes a walking path or the entrance to a business and whether the device is aligned upright — information that cannot be registered with GPS data. “As we have grown Helbiz, we have put technology at the core which is how we have built our R&D team in Serbia,” said Helbiz Chief Technology Officer Nemanja Stancic. “ParkSense demonstrates the best of what we can do. We approached a problem with technology first, built the AI in-house and deployed it successfully. Not only does this strengthen our position to acquire licenses, it opens up licensing as a new revenue stream as verifying parking is increasingly a requirement of licenses from local governments and until now the industry has used inaccurate and un-flexible solutions. ParkSense is flexible from market to market and can adapt and learn from specific market conditions in each city.” ParkSense is able to return an answer in less than a second 95% of the time and has no hardware requirement. Helbiz and any operator that implements it will be able to easily select for environmental factors which enables a solution that is entirely customizable to the city it is deployed in. Furthermore, the ParkSense tool does not require AI expertise or a developer SDK but simply a few lines of code. To learn more, visit helbiz.com/robotics/parksense. About Helbiz Helbiz is a global leader in micro-mobility services. Launched in 2015 and headquartered in New York City, the company offers a diverse fleet of vehicles including e-scooters, e-bicycles and e-mopeds all on one convenient, user-friendly platform with over 50 licenses in cities around the world. Helbiz utilizes a customized, proprietary fleet management technology, artificial intelligence and environmental mapping to optimize operations and business sustainability. Helbiz is expanding its urban lifestyle products and services to include live streaming services, food delivery and more, all accessible within its mobile app. For additional information, please visit www.helbiz.com.

Citizens Seek Help From Neighbors Fertilizer Applications The Augusta Chronicle
Citizens Seek Help From Neighbors Fertilizer Applications The Augusta Chronicle
Citizens Seek Help From Neighbors’ Fertilizer Applications – The Augusta Chronicle https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/citizens-seek-help-from-neighbors-fertilizer-applications-the-augusta-chronicle/ The first thing they noticed was the smell, a wave of putrescence that rolled across their property and settled in, into their homes, their vehicles, their clothes.   “We would welcome the smell of chicken litter. We know what that’s like, living on a farm,” said Angela Walden. “But this is far worse. The best way to describe this is the smell of death.”  As the smell spread, buzzards, flocks of them, spiraled down and into the neighboring fields.   “We hoped it was just going to be a few days, that it would get better,” Walden said.   It did not. Next came the flies. Clouds of them that swarm and bite every living thing.   Cameron Clark, a resident of Avera, said that his daughters, ages 4 and 10, cannot go outside and play.  “If they do, then as soon as they get back in the house it’s straight to the shower they go. Flies are immediately coming out of their hair,” Clark said. He lives about a mile from the source of the problem.  The Complaints  Tuesday, Sept. 13, a crowd of frustrated, angry and concerned citizens attended the Jefferson County Commission meeting asking for help to stop several area landowners who are currently spreading soil amendments on rural property throughout the county. Citizens complained specifically about sites on Clarks Mill Road, Highway 88 near Avera and Gamble School Road near Stapleton.   These amendments, known to many as sludge, are a mixture of solids and liquids, many of which originate in meat and other food processing facilities, farmers use to both improve nutrients in soil, but also improve the texture and water-absorbing qualities of the dirt.  Carly Nielsen, the Upper Watershed Representative of the Ogeechee Riverkeeper told the commissioners that she will call the stuff what it is, “chicken blood and guts and the toxic industrial cleaners that come along with it.”  Walden told commissioners that within days of a neighbor applying these amendments to property adjacent to her family’s farm her father, who lives on the property and her husband, who was working there, started having daily headaches, nausea and a sore throat that doctors attributed to an environmental stimuli.   “The horrid smell and the millions of flies make anything outside unbearable,” Walden said. “Simple things like cutting the grass, feeding your animals, hauling hay, working on fence, all of that is now a misery because of the awful smell and the plague of flies. My father can no longer enjoy the farm he has lived on and cherished for 78 years.”   Other citizens made similar complaints about the smell and flies and voiced concerns about their drinking water.   Colt Turner told commissioners that the land applications of these soil amendments near his home on Highway 88 have impacted both his family and his livelihood.  He said that people from all over the country send their horses to him there for training.  “I can’t keep them in the barn because they can’t get away from the flies. I have to keep them in the pasture so they can roll and do anything to get away from them. It is hurting my business,” Turner said. “I have to explain the smell. I have to explain why the horses are out and sun-bleached. This brings in the birds, the buzzards and cowbirds. They’re coming in and eating and then flying to every farm and who knows what they are spreading.”  Turner and others talked about how the smell gets into their clothes and homes and how they have to burn candles constantly to be able to sleep.   “Last night my land taxes came in and it got me thinking. If I did want to move or sell, there’s no way somebody could move into my place right now. It is actually awful. I don’t want to be there myself, much less see if someone would want to move in,” Turner said. “I’ve spent every penny I’ve made to try to make a place I can be proud of and you can’t even go outside and enjoy being in the yard with the kids because of the flies.”  A Problem Across the State  Today, the use of soil amendments continues to be a legal practice. Considered an agricultural product, soil amendments are approved and regulated by the Department of Agriculture. But both environmental protection groups like the Ogeechee Riverkeeper as well as governmental agencies like Jefferson County’s Board of Commissioners across the state argue that neither this state agency, nor the Environmental Protection Division (EPD), have the resources to adequately monitor these operations, let alone investigate the allegations of inappropriate applications.  A Wilkes County Administrator, where soil amendments recently spilled into neighboring Washington County’s Little River killing 1,700 fish, told reporters that he had reported multiple complaints regarding soil amendments. Not only did the responsible agencies not have the resources to respond in a timely fashion, but he often found himself being directed from one agency to the other, between the EPD and the Department of Agriculture, as each said it was the other’s issue to address.  Department of Agriculture representatives have said that the agency is reviewing new rules that will clarify regulations and record-keeping for soil amendments, introduce product control contractors, require site specific nutrient management plans and add testing requirements. However, many have concerns that these changes do not address the staffing issues in the regulatory agencies.  Nielsen, the Riverkeeper representative, said that issues like these can at least partially be improved if the state would give more power to local authorities.   “With more regulation oversight, applicators spreading soil amendments at inappropriate rates will be held accountable,” she said. “As of right now, the Department of Agriculture is too understaffed. They have a couple of new code enforcement people, but it’s just not enough. We need the counties to have more oversight. And we want permits as well so we can track these people and make sure they are doing what they need to be.”   Jefferson is one of several members of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), who recently submitted a letter to the Department of Agriculture regarding suggested rule changes for soil amendments.   In its letter ACCG requested that the new rules give county governing authorities, such as county code enforcement agents, the jurisdiction to inspect locations where these ag products are being applied. ACCG also asked for the ability for counties to enforce buffers around soil amendment properties. Before the rules are finalized, ACCG asks that “a stakeholder group be assembled to gain an understanding of the intent of the language used in the rules, the thoughts on implementing the rules and ways local governments can aid in enforcement of the rules.”  A Local Response  “We hear you. We hear you loud and we have made the first step that we can,” Jefferson County Commission Chairman Mitchell McGraw told those gathered at the meeting last week. He said that he had spoken to the area’s state representatives about the issue. Commissioner Johnny Davis, a member of the ACCG, said that within the next two weeks he would be in a legislative conference where this issue will be a top priority.  Commissioner Wayne Davis suggested the county could look at addressing the issue through its planning and zoning board and the Riverkeeper representative said that she has seen at least one neighboring county begin to attempt this.  County Attorney Dalton Dowdy said that complaints about these soil amendments have become a statewide issue.  He went on to say that individuals who have been impacted by these applications near their homes could attempt to address the issue as a private action in civil court.  Within a couple of days of the meeting, one of the same groups spreading soil amendments on the western side of Jefferson County had moved equipment to a pasture between Keysville and Matthews on the eastern side.  “I definitely suggest taking pictures, documenting dates. Some people are taking legal action and all of that documentation is going to help them,” Nielsen said. “I think the most important thing anyone can do is press their local leaders to make a change at the local level.”  Until the Department of Agriculture decides to enact any changes to its soil amendment policies, citizens in Jefferson County will continue to buy candles, put out traps for flies and hope for a change in the wind.

Cardiorespiratory Endurance Is Great For Your Health Monitor
Cardiorespiratory Endurance Is Great For Your Health – Monitor https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/cardiorespiratory-endurance-is-great-for-your-health-monitor/ Monday, September 19, 2022 Burpee exercise: It will also test your balance. PHOTO | COURTESY What you need to know: The ability to easily go about simple physical activities such carrying your groceries, climbing a flight of stairs shows that your body organs such as your lungs are functioning well. There are times one climbs a flight of stairs and feels that their lungs are on fire. For some, the heart palpitations will be at their highest and will seek to rest. For others, their muscles hurt so bad they feel as though a fire were lit in their muscles. That can happen to anyone, regardless of size and age. However, these point to ailing fitness and the need to better one’s cardiovascular and respiratory health.   That is why cardiorespiratory endurance is important as it is the level at which one’s heart, lungs, and muscles work together when one is exercising for an extended period of time. When that happens, it shows that your cardiorespiratory organs are in top notch condition.  At top notch endurance, one’s lungs and heart are better able to use oxygen which allows for them to work out for longer hours without tiring. As such, knowing your endurance level is crucial to monitor your overall health because good endurance shows excellent overall health. One fool-proof way of improving cardiorespiratory endurance is through regular exercising. Brisk walking and jogging  Either of these workouts will help one increase their cardiovascular and respiratory endurance because the lungs, heart and muscles are intensely worked.  “The workout could either be done at low or high intensive mode. For starters, there is no need to worry because even at low intensity but done for longer times can help you achieve desired fitness levels as well as improved endurance,” Lydia Kaitesi, a fitness trainer says. Stationary running and jumping The workout starts with one jogging in one spot for 30 seconds or 20 repetitions. Thereafter, start lifting your knees as high as possible coupled with raising the foot off the ground in a bid to touch the bottom,” Brian Kasasa, a sports scientist shares. Do the two leg lifting activities for 30 seconds as well before returning to stationary jogging. Additionally, lifting the leg and foot must be done for both legs concurrently. For a beginner, the workout can be done in low intensity but the tempo must increase as the fitness level increases.  Running Though highly aerobic, running also cuts across as a cardiorespiratory endurance building workout that makes the participant’s left ventricle thicker than one who lives an inactive life. “When one runs, the heart and lungs work harder to ensure that the body receives oxygen which is later transferred to the muscles to aid the workout. As the cycle continues, cardiorespiratory endurance is built as well as fitness. That said, if you prefer running in the morning, dress appropriately to avoid any respiratory diseases that arise from extreme coldness. Additionally, wear the right foot wear to ensure your feet are well protected,” Kaitesi says. Burpees The thought of arising in an instant is somewhat daunting for some people. However, with burpees, you will need to do that at some point of the activity if you are to gain from it. The benefits are increased general body strength and obviously endurance. “The workout starts with jumping from a standing position while lifting your arms then once you return to starting position, the hands drop to the floor to allow you assume a plank position. Thereafter, jump back into standing position and jump up again,” Kasasa shares. The cycle continues and with all the moves involved, one cannot fail to exercise their lungs, heart and muscles. A plus to this is that weight loss is tackled while strength is also improved. When doing these workouts, it is important that one does not hold their breathe but breathe deeply. Otherwise, the lungs will be denied the ability to inhale and exhale thus get exercised better.  “That then affects the blood because it will not have as much oxygen as the muscles that are working hard need. That will, therefore, make you tire fast because the muscles are starved,” Kaitesi says. Additionally, try to do each of these workouts for at least one minute. “That may not be possible for a beginner but that should be a walk in the park as fitness improves. It is also possible to surpass the one minute mark with time. As you work out, take a 30 second rest in between each workout,” Kasasa says. With time, not only will weight loss and fitness become possible but also cardiorespiratory endurance built. An added advantage of doing these work outs is that you do not need many workout equipment. That means you can do them from anywhere and at any time. They are also ideal for people that do not have large chunks of time to devote to exercising.

What Channel Is Vikings Vs. Eagles On Today? Schedule, Time For ‘Monday Night Football’ In Week 2 – Sporting News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/what-channel-is-vikings-vs-eagles-on-today-schedule-time-for-monday-night-football-in-week-2-sporting-news/ When the Vikings play the Eagles, you might want to keep your eyes on the pass-catchers. Lining up at the X for Minnesota will be Justin Jefferson, perhaps the league’s best wide receiver. The spindly Jettas is a superstar in every sense of the word — a touchdown-scoring, griddy-dancing talent who has been dominant in his short career. Jefferson wants 2,000 receiving yards this year. It’s hard to say he can’t hit that mark, especially after he torched Green Bay’s secondary for nearly 200 in Week 1. Philly has its own star to snag passes out of the air: newcomer A.J. Brown. Brown’s arrival gave Jalen Hurts something he so desperately desired — a true No. 1 option. Brown is certainly being paid like one. Brown put up 155 receiving yards against the Lions, making easy work of an improved defensive back unit. With his mammoth frame and soft hands, Brown looks well on his way to a career season. That should thrust him into the upper echelon of wideouts, a place Jettas knows very well. What do you get when you put two of the most talented receivers in football on the field with one another? Zetly’s ‘Sport Metaverse’ Gives Fans An All-In-One Bonding Experience With Their Favorite Teams – CoinGeek https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/zetlys-sport-metaverse-gives-fans-an-all-in-one-bonding-experience-with-their-favorite-teams-coingeek/ Home » Business » Zetly’s ‘Sport Metaverse’ gives fans an all-in-one bonding experience with their favorite teams Blockchain sports fandom firm Zetly is piloting a project called “Sport Metaverse.” It harnesses the power of VR/AR and tokenized assets on the BSV blockchain to create a richer connection between fans and their favorite teams. Sport Metaverse sees Zetly partnering with BSV blockchain VR/AR specialists Transmira, as well as gaming projects PowChess and Haste Arcade. It will initially focus on football clubs in Zetly’s home country, Poland. The plan is to develop a full Metaverse environment for fans to interact with objects in the physical world. Buying merchandise such as shirts, scarves, or other memorabilia will also give fans an NFT, which can then be used to scan a playing arena, access other limited-edition NFT collections, and enjoy play-to-earn games. There will be full 3D “digital twins” of existing playing arenas and their surrounds. These virtual stadiums allow fans to attend and cheer for their team from anywhere in the world and interact with fellow fans. Club partners and sponsors will also be able to use the virtual space for their own merchandising, giving clubs a new way to earn revenue. Clubs themselves will also be able to issue their own tokens, hold crowdfunding campaigns, and create virtual team currencies and other digital collections. Physical locations can also be connected to additional information about places, clubs, and their history. Fans can visit the locations in the real world and learn more about their favorite teams, as well as the places in which their team is playing. “The Sport Metaverse is an opportunity for development and a tool to engage fans, which is an ideal investment for those who put a close relationship with their fans first. We propose a solution that will be a revolution in the world of sport. In this project, we want to use the experience gained during the 3D scanning of buildings in Los Angeles. We are convinced that our Omniscape platform is the perfect partner for Zetly in the sports program,” Transmira CEO Robert Rice said. Transmira’s Omniscape is a growing platform that takes real-world locations and creates an interactive digital layer for companies wishing to interact with consumers. Using the BSV blockchain’s massive capacity for data processing and tokenization features, it enables new and unique customer experiences, and lets companies be creative with novel marketing opportunities. Rich virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technology interacts with NFTs for special offers, events, tickets, and other experiences. In the Sport Metaverse, these other experiences include mini-games and “other engagement tools” developed by PowChess and Haste Arcade, who have been using the BSV blockchain to build entertaining casual games where players can win real money. Haste Arcade’s “Instant Leaderboard Payouts” system gives players fast gratification with their winnings, paying them out with micropayments in real-time. Zetly CEO Michael Glijer said that following the limited pilot program, his company aims to expand Sports Metaverse to other teams and sports. “This programme is unique because it contains almost everything that will be needed for a sports club on the Web3 ecosystem and the fun thing is that it costs nothing,” he said. “We aim to create a kind of snowball effect from these sports brands, together with our partners, and with the BSV Blockchain support. This is a win-win for us,” he added. Zetly is creating what it calls an “All in One Sport Platform” with a basis on the emotional bonds fans form with their favorite teams. Interacting with the VR/AR features and tokenized digital environment will give them an extra sense of belonging and influence beyond just buying tickets and cheering from the stands.
