J-Pop To Go Crypto With IEO-Funded Idol Group To Debut In 2023 – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/j-pop-to-go-crypto-with-ieo-funded-idol-group-to-debut-in-2023-cryptonews/ The Japanese idol group AKB48. Source: Dennis Amith (kndynt2099)/(CC 2.0) J-pop is ready to take the crypto plunge, with Japan’s biggest pop producer set to debut a new “idol group” (a boy band or girlgroup) in the metaverse – a project that will be funded through an initial exchange offering (IEO). In a press release, a Japanese crypto-pop crossover project named Overse announced that it would be working with Yasushi Akimoto, the nation’s top pop record producer and lyricist, on a project that is scheduled to launch next year. Akimoto is the mastermind behind some of the biggest names in J-pop, such as Onyanko Club, Nogizaka46, and the AKB48 franchise. Akimoto has sold well over 100 million singles, and is the best-selling lyricist in Japan. His success in creating all-female, chart-topping pop acts has been unparalleled in his native country – and has even seen him contribute to the formation of South Korean girl group such as Iz*One. J-pop/crypto crossovers have been on the rise in recent years, and Overse will hope that Akimoto’s Midas touch will not fail him when the group debuts next year. Overse wrote that Akimoto would serve as the as-yet-unnamed group’s “general producer.” It also wrote that the project would be funded through an IEO, and that the group would be active in “blockchain technology” and “the metaverse.” The firm says that it hopes to go ahead with its IEO in “early 2023” – and will begin selecting members of group in Spring next year. It hopes to finalize the group’s membership by Summer – with a debut to follow in Fall. In a previous press release, the same firm stated that it had sealed an agreement with the domestic crypto exchange DMM Bitcoin and the crypto startup Coinbook. These two firms will carry out the IEO, with the sale likely to take place on DMM’s platform. IEOs are still largely uncharted territory for Japanese exchanges, but multiple companies are hoping to move into the space in the next few months – following regulators’ moves last year to formulate guidelines for the sector. In Japan, “idol” groups refer to boy bands and girlgroups that are recruited and managed by powerful domestic talent agencies. “Idol”-style pop groups have gone on to dominate the music scene in much of East Asia – culminating in international chart success for the likes of South Korea’s BTS.

Big U.S. Bank CEOs To Be Grilled By Congress On Consumer, Social Issues – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/big-u-s-bank-ceos-to-be-grilled-by-congress-on-consumer-social-issues-reuters/ WASHINGTON, Sept 19 (Reuters) – The chief executives of JPMorgan , Bank of America , Citigroup , Wells Fargo and other major U.S. retail banks will be grilled this week by lawmakers on a slew of issues, from the state of the economy to their stances on hot-button issues including abortion and fossil-fuel lending. Payments fraud, boosting diversity, mergers and access to bank branches, are also expected to feature when the CEOs appear before the House Financial Services Committee and Senate Banking Committees on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, according bank officials, congressional aides and lobbyists. The line-up includes the CEOs of the four largest U.S. banks: JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon, Bank of America’s Brian Moynihan, Citi’s Jane Fraser and Wells Fargo’s Charles Scharf. They will be joined by USBancorp (USB.N) CEO Andy Cecere, PNC Financial (PNC.N) CEO William Demchak, and Truist Financial CEO William Rogers, who run the country’s largest regional lenders. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com While such hearings rarely result in legislative action, they are still risky for CEOs, who will be forced to defend their banks on a number of fronts when lawmakers are looking to boost their profiles ahead of November elections. During a similar hearing last year, Dimon was drawn into a fiery exchange with Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren about overdraft fees. Former Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan, meanwhile, resigned abruptly in March 2019 two weeks after stumbling during a House committee hearing about the bank’s progress in fixing its regulatory woes. read more The hearing comes amid growing worries that Federal Reserve rate hikes aimed at taming inflation could tip the country into a recession. In June, Jamie Dimon said the U.S. economy was facing a “hurricane” but could not predict how bad it would be. Lawmakers are likely to quiz the CEOs about how consumers’ finances are holding up and how the lenders plan to assist Americans as borrowing costs rise. “We will continue to hold the nation’s biggest banks accountable so that Americans can keep more of their hard-earned money – at a time that they need it most,” said Senate Banking Committee chair Senator Sherrod Brown in a statement to Reuters. The banks believe they have a positive story to tell about how well they performed during the COVID-19 pandemic while helping distribute billions of dollars of aid; their ongoing role in the broader economy; and their efforts to boost pay for rank-and-file workers, promote racial equity in the communities they serve, and boost staff diversity. That’s a message the banks’ executives, lobbyists, and trade groups have conveyed during a marathon of private meetings with key lawmakers over the past few weeks, the sources said. “There’s a lot for our banks to point to, to demonstrate how much they’ve done to support consumers, small businesses, and the economy throughout the pandemic and continuing today,” said Lindsey Johnson, CEO of the Consumer Bankers Association. ‘WOKE’ PUSHBACK Since the 2007-2009 financial crisis, Democrats including Brown and House Financial Services Committee chair Maxine Waters have taken a tough stance on the banking industry and are expected to keep up the pressure at the hearings. In private letters, the committees have asked the CEOs to provide details on their capital levels, bank branch locations, employee wages, executive pay, efforts to reduce carbon emissions, stock buybacks, fair lending, and abortion coverage, among other items, according to a copies seen by Reuters. But bank executives are also wary of growing criticism from Republicans, traditionally allies who have pushed back against heavy regulation, over what they see as Wall Street’s increasingly liberal leanings on environment and social issues. Republicans at the state and federal level are cracking down on banks for “boycotting” industries such as energy and guns, a characterization banks dispute. Conservatives have also slammed lenders for “woke” stances on other issues such as covering travel costs for employees’ out-of-state abortions. read more “Americans deserve to hear how these banks will support their customers through troubling economic headwinds … instead of far-left talking points,” Patrick McHenry, the top Republican on the House panel, said in a statement to Reuters. While executives faced some critical questions from Republicans on such issues last year, the pressure will be greater this time, said analysts. “The big banks really have fewer friends than they used to, there’s no doubt about it,” said Brian Gardner, chief Washington policy strategist at Stifel Financial Corp. Apple Flexes Muscle As Quiet Power Behind App Developer Group – The Indian Express https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/apple-flexes-muscle-as-quiet-power-behind-app-developer-group-the-indian-express/ The tech giant isn’t a member of the association. But it plays a dominant behind-the-scenes role shaping the group’s policy positions, according to four former App Association employees who asked not to be named discussing internal matters. (Image credit: Reuters) The App Association brands itself as the leading voice for thousands of app developers around the world. In reality, the vast majority of its funding comes from Apple Inc. The tech giant isn’t a member of the association. But it plays a dominant behind-the-scenes role shaping the group’s policy positions, according to four former App Association employees who asked not to be named discussing internal matters. In fact, critics note, the association’s lobbying agenda tracks closely with Apple’s — even when it’s at odds with app developers, the companies that make the individual games and programs that run on Apple’s iPhone and other devices. The group, known as ACT, says it’s not beholden to Apple, but confirmed that it derives more than half its funding from the company. The former employees say the actual percentage is much higher. The relationship between Apple and ACT illustrates how big companies quietly pour money into outside groups that promote their agenda in Washington. ACT representatives regularly testify in Congress, file court briefs in defense of Apple’s positions and host annual “fly-in” meetings for developers with lawmakers. Rick VanMeter, a former congressional aide who is the head of rival developer group Coalition for App Fairness, said ACT’s purported representation of app developers is deceptive, given its relationship with Apple. “When you pretend to be something that you’re not in order to make a point, that’s bad for the lawmaking process,” said VanMeter. Cupertino, California-based Apple declined to comment for this story, but ACT executives defended the role of the company. ACT President Morgan Reed said in an interview that it “doesn’t pass the laugh test” to say the association is fronting for Apple. “Our job is to make sure we’re paying attention to the way that government can have an impact, unintended or otherwise, on all of those small businesses making cool software products,” Reed said. Reed and other ACT executives said that they determine policy positions based on the preferences of their members and don’t take direction from Apple, though they take Apple’s positions into account. ACT spokesperson Karen Groppe declined to say how much of the group’s funding comes from Apple other than to say it’s more than half. Contributions from all donors topped $9 million in 2020, according to the most recently available data from disclosure filings, suggesting Apple makes a multimillion-dollar contribution. Apple is a major force in the industry. Its App Store is a virtual marketplace for apps, a lucrative business for both the developers and Apple. The company takes a 15% to 30% cut of sales — representing billions of dollars a year. But many app developers object to the fees and restrictions, which Apple insists it needs so it can vet the systems to ensure the safety of its users. Proposed antitrust legislation advancing in Congress would loosen Apple’s grip over the App Store and enable developers to circumvent the company’s cut. The measure, known as the Open App Markets Act, is backed by the Coalition for App Fairness. But ACT opposes the bill, arguing it would threaten the privacy and security of the App Store, echoing Apple’s talking points against the bill. ACT’s executive director, Chelsea Thomas, is a former lobbyist on Apple’s government affairs team. “Understanding what bigger players in the ecosystem are thinking on policy issues is important to us to understand where the conversations are going,” Thomas said. ACT’s work has also drawn scrutiny from some of the developer world’s biggest players. Tim Sweeney, chief executive officer of Epic Games Inc., called the association “Apple’s fake ‘small app developer’ lobby” in a June tweet. Here’s Apple’s fake “small app developer” lobby again using small app developers as human shields to defend its monopoly, misportraying its opposition as larger corporations. Pure, shameless deception by a multi trillion dollar corporation. https://t.co/5PKz6KW4FJ Both sides are appealing. ACT supported Apple in the case. ACT’s website says it represents 5,000 developers and device companies around the world, though Reed said the number of active members is smaller. In addition to Apple, other corporate sponsors listed on its website are Verisign Inc., AT&T Inc., Intel Corp. and Verizon Communications Inc. The group’s annual congressional fly-ins feature policy presentations to the developers by Apple representatives and tech industry experts. People who have attended them said ACT often shared talking points that mirrored Apple’s agenda before they met with lawmakers and staff. Several ACT members said they appreciate the sessions with lawmakers arranged by ACT, even if they don’t always agree on the group’s positions. “Is it unreasonable that there is a major donor whose position also aligns and supports all the small contributors in this space?” said Thomas Gorczynski, an ACT member and founder of software development agency DevScale. But VanMeter, whose coalition’s members also include Apple antagonist Spotify Technology SA, said he assumed ACT was “the unified voice of app developers” when he received materials from them during his time in Congress. “They have sown a lot of confusion,” said VanMeter.

Never before has a former president faced an array of federal, state and congressional investigations as extensive as Donald J. Trump has.Credit…Hannah Beier for The New York Times Sept. 19, 2022, 3:00 a.m. ET WASHINGTON — Former President Donald J. Trump has set up his office on the second floor of his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as part replica of the Oval Office and part homage to his time in the real White House. On the wall during a visit last year were six favorite photographs, including ones with Queen Elizabeth II and Kim Jong-un. On display were challenge coins, a plaque commemorating his border wall and a portrait of the former president fashioned out of bullet casings, a present from Jair Bolsonaro, the so-called Trump of Brazil. This has become Mr. Trump’s fortress in exile and his war room, the headquarters for the wide-ranging and rapidly escalating conflict with investigators that has come to consume his post-presidency. It is a multifront war, with battlefields in New York, Georgia and the nation’s capital, featuring a shifting roster of lawyers and a blizzard of allegations of wrongdoing that are hard to keep straight. Never before has a former president faced an array of federal, state and congressional investigations as extensive as Mr. Trump has, the cumulative consequences of a career in business and eventually politics lived on the edge, or perhaps over the edge. Whether it be his misleading business practices or his efforts to overturn a democratic election or his refusal to hand over sensitive government documents that did not belong to him, Mr. Trump’s disparate legal troubles stem from the same sense that rules constraining others did not apply to him. The story of how he got to this point is both historically unique and eminently predictable. Mr. Trump has been fending off investigators and legal troubles for a half century, since the Justice Department sued his family business for racial discrimination and through the myriad inquiries that would follow over the years. He has a remarkable track record of sidestepping the worst outcomes, but even he may now find so many inquiries pointing in his direction that escape is uncertain. His view of the legal system has always been transactional; it is a weapon to be used, either by him or against him, and he has rarely been intimidated by the kinds of subpoenas and affidavits that would chill a less litigious character. On the civil side, he has been involved in thousands of lawsuits with business partners, vendors and others, many of them suing him because he refused to pay his bills. While president, he once explained his view of the legal system to some aides, saying that he would go to court to intimidate adversaries because just threatening to sue was not enough. “When you threaten to sue, they don’t do anything,” Mr. Trump told aides. “They say, ‘Psshh!’” — he waved his hand in the air — “and keep doing what they want. But when you sue them, they go, ‘Oooh!’” — here he made a cringing face — “and they settle. It’s as easy as that.” When he began losing legal battles as president with regularity, he lashed out. At one point when the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, a traditionally liberal bench based in California, ruled against one of his policies, he demanded that aides get rid of the court altogether. “Let’s just cancel it,” he said, as if it were a campaign event, not a court system established under law. If it required legislation, then draft a bill to “get rid” of the judges, he said, using an expletive. But his aides ignored him and now he finds himself without the power of the presidency, staring at a host of prosecutors and lawyers who have him and his associates in their sights. Some of the issues at hand go back years, but many of the seeds for his current legal jeopardy were planted in those frenetic final days in office when he sought to overturn the will of the voters and hold onto power through a series of lies about election fraud that did not exist. Many Americans could be forgiven if they have lost the thread of all the investigations amid the blizzard of motions and hearings and rulings of recent weeks. But they essentially break down this way: New York State Long before he became president, by many accounts, Mr. Trump played it fast and loose in business. The question is whether any of that violated the law. For years, according to his own associates, he inflated the value of his various properties to obtain loans. Letitia James, the New York State attorney general, has been examining his business practices for more than three years to determine if they constituted fraud. When she summoned Mr. Trump to testify in a deposition, he invoked his Fifth Amendment right not to respond to questions on the grounds that his answers might incriminate him more than 400 times. Mr. Trump has assailed Ms. James as a partisan Democrat who is coming after him for political reasons. As a candidate in 2018, she was an outspoken critic of Mr. Trump, calling him an “illegitimate president” and suggesting that foreign governments channeled money to his family’s real estate holdings, which she characterized as a “pattern and practice of money laundering.” But Mr. Trump’s lawyers recently sought to settle the case, which could indicate concern about his legal risk, only to have their bid rejected by Ms. James. Because her investigation is civil, not criminal, she would have to decide whether her findings warrant a lawsuit accusing the former president of fraud. Manhattan The Manhattan district attorney’s office, now led by Alvin L. Bragg, has looked into some of the same issues as part of a criminal investigation and is about to bring the Trump Organization, the former president’s family business, to trial on charges of fraud and tax evasion starting on Oct. 24. Allen H. Weisselberg, the longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, has pleaded guilty to 15 felonies, admitting that he conspired with the company to carry out a scheme to avoid paying taxes on lavish perks. Mr. Weisselberg is obliged as part of his plea agreement to testify at the upcoming trial. But Mr. Trump himself is not a defendant, and Mr. Weisselberg has refused to cooperate with the broader investigation. Image Allen Weisselberg, the longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, pleaded guilty to 15 felonies connected to his work with the company.Credit…Jefferson Siegel for The New York Times But Mr. Bragg has indicated skepticism that there is sufficient evidence to convict Mr. Trump himself. The district attorney’s public suggestion that Mr. Trump would most likely not face charges led to the resignation of two prosecutors leading the investigation, one of whom said in a resignation letter that the former president was “guilty of numerous felony violations” and that it was “a grave failure of justice” not to hold him accountable. How Times reporters cover politics. We rely on our journalists to be independent observers. So while Times staff members may vote, they are not allowed to endorse or campaign for candidates or political causes. This includes participating in marches or rallies in support of a movement or giving money to, or raising money for, any political candidate or election cause. Georgia Mr. Trump put himself in possible legal jeopardy in the swing state of Georgia on Jan. 2, 2021, when he called Brad Raffensperger, the secretary of state, and demanded that he “find 11,780 votes,” just enough to reverse the outcome and take the state away from Joseph R. Biden Jr. During the call, Mr. Trump warned Mr. Raffensperger, a Republican, that he faced a “big risk” if he failed to find those votes, an implied threat the Georgian defied. Mr. Trump’s allies likewise sought to pressure state officials to change the results and, as they did in other key states that went for his opponent, tried to orchestrate a slate of fake electors to send to Washington to cast Electoral College votes for the defeated president instead of Mr. Biden, who won Georgia’s popular vote. Fani T. Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, has cast a wide net, pressing for testimony by Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, and informing Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former president’s lawyer, that he is a target of her investigation. Ms. Willis appears to be building a possible case of conspiracy to commit election fraud or racketeering through a coordinated effort to undermine the election. In addition to Mr. Giuliani, multiple allies of the former president have been told they are targets, including the state party chairman and members of the slate of fake electors. Mr. Trump has dismissed Ms. Willis, a Democrat who was elected in the same 2020 balloting that he lost, saying her inquiry is, in the words of a spokesman last year, “simply the Democrats’ latest attempt to score political points by continuing their witch hunt against President Trump.” Congress The House committee investigating the Capitol attack of Jan. 6, 2021, composed of seven Democrats and two Republicans, has done more to lay out a possible criminal case against Mr. Trump in the public space than any of the former president’s pursuers. Its series of hearings over the summer, which could resume on Sept. 28, showcased testimony by Mr. Trump’s own advisers indicating that he was repeatedly informed that the 2020 election was not stolen, that what he was telling the public was not true, that there was ...

SoftBank-Backed India Start-Up Oyo Revives IPO Plans Amid Travel Rebound The National
SoftBank-Backed India Start-Up Oyo Revives IPO Plans Amid Travel Rebound – The National https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/softbank-backed-india-start-up-oyo-revives-ipo-plans-amid-travel-rebound-the-national/ Oyo Hotels, the once high-flying Indian start-up, is reviving plans for a stock-market debut after cost cuts and a recovery in travel helped it to reduce losses. The hotel-booking company filed fresh financial documents on Monday and is now focusing on an initial public offering in early 2023 — provided that India’s stock market continues to hold up and economic conditions improve, sources said. Oyo, formally known as Oravel Stays, is internally working towards a January IPO as executives are encouraged by a pick-up in demand, they said. Oyo had filed preliminary IPO documents in 2021, only to shelve the listing plan earlier this year after the prolonged pandemic hurt its growth and forced the company to cut thousands of jobs. It disclosed its latest financials in an IPO filing addendum on Monday, with the numbers showing narrower losses and a rebound in sales for the year through March 2022 and the following three months. The start-up is now focusing on four main regions: India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Europe, where it manages holiday homes. It has cut down operations in markets it previously considered crucial, such as the US and China, where its employee count is now in single digits, a source said. Oyo and founder Ritesh Agarwal are trying to pull off a successful IPO after a series of setbacks in their efforts to change the hotel and lodging industry. SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son was an early and enthusiastic backer, and the Japanese conglomerate holds about 47 per cent in the Gurgaon-based start-up. Mr Agarwal, 28, owns about one third of it. The revived listing plan also underscores how India’s stock market is bucking the trend of globally declining tech stocks. Accelerating inflation, lingering Covid-19 infections and the war in Ukraine have sent the tech-heavy Nasdaq index down by 27 per cent this year. Meanwhile, India’s benchmark NSE Nifty 50 index is up by 1 per cent. Oyo reported a loss of 18.9 billion rupees ($237 million) for the year through March 2022, nearly halving from the previous 12 months. The numbers were restated from previously undisclosed figures and included in the IPO document addendum made available by its bankers. The annual loss before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation shrank to 4.8bn rupees from 18.7bn rupees. For the three months through June 2022, earnings on that basis were 105.75m rupees, while the net loss was 3.5bn rupees. Revenue from contracts with customers for the fiscal year through March 2022 increased by 21 per cent to 47.8bn rupees, with travel picking up as the pandemic eased. Revenue is still far below the 131.7bn rupees booked for fiscal 2020, before the full effect of the coronavirus kicked in. Oyo filed its preliminary document, the so-called Draft Red Herring Prospectus or DRHP, for a $1.1bn IPO in September last year. Twelve months have since lapsed without the listing being cleared. Earlier this year, it sought to file additional documents and received regulatory approval for the move. The start-up was most recently valued at $9bn, researcher CB Insights said. Ritesh Agarwal, founder of Oyo, which is based in Gurgaon, India. Photo: OYO Rooms Oyo was started in 2013 by Mr Agarwal, then 19, who dropped out of college to travel around the country. The start-up began to work with small hotels to standardise everything from bed linen to bathroom shower fittings that it then branded with its bright red and white Oyo logo. With backing from high-profile investors such as SoftBank and Lightspeed Venture Partners, it expanded furiously into South-East Asia, China, Europe and the US as it signed on hotel partners with agreements of guaranteed returns. At one point, Mr Agarwal ambitiously aimed for the title of the world’s No 1 branded stay operator. During the pandemic, Mr Agarwal was forced to overhaul the start-up’s business model. Oyo fired thousands of employees and stopped providing hotel vendors any guaranteed returns or capital to refurbish their properties. He described the shift as a transition to an “asset light” model. Instead of offering minimum guarantees, Oyo now supports hotel and vacation home partners with technology and product services, as well as customer support. Hotel owners can self-enrol, and manage bookings and services on its app. Updated: September 19, 2022, 7:13 AM

VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 19 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 19 – VietNamNet https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/vietnam-business-news-september-19-vietnamnet/ The European Union (EU) will cut the import tax rate to 0% on Vietnamese rice-based products in the next 3-5 years, creating an opportunity for Vietnam to raise the competitiveness of its rice with other rice exporting countries. According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium and the EU, the European Commission (EC) published the Official Journal, which contains Regulation (EU) 2022/1481 regarding the import duties applicable to certain types of husked rice imported to this market. The import duty for husked rice under the CN code 1006 20, other than husked basmati rice of the varieties referred to in Article 1 of the Commission Regulation (EC) No 972/2006, shall be 65 euro per ton. The regulation took effect as of September 8, 2022. Under the European Union–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, the EU gives Vietnam an export quota of 80,000 tons of rice per annum, consisting of 30,000 tons of husked rice, 20,000 tons of wholegrain rice and 30,000 tons of fragrant rice. Vietnam’s broken rice will enjoy trade liberalization when it enters the EU, bringing the total estimated exports to 100,000 tons to the EU per annum. In addition to the advantages of the EVFTA, Vietnamese enterprises need to improve the rice quality and change their business approach to expand the market. Insurance companies urged to go digital soon Insurers should promote digital transformation rapidly as, compared to other financial industries, the insurance industry is considered to have slow digital transformation with limited economic efficiency. Despite efforts being made, the digital transformation of insurance companies is lagging, as most life insurance buyers still want to hold paper contracts instead of keeping them online and seeing them on mobile devices. Pham Thu Phuong, deputy director of the Ministry of Finance’s Insurance Supervision Authority (ISA), said the biggest challenge for insurance companies is an effective digital transformation strategy, as many companies, even foreign-invested ones, have not performed digitisation synchronously but only in some stages. According to Phuong, the economic efficiency of digital transformation of the insurance industry remains very limited. ISA’s statistics showed at present, the insurance revenue through digitised channels of the life insurance segment accounts for less than 5% of the total premium revenue of the market. The number of the non-life insurance segment is even lower at less than 1%. The digital transformation costs are not small while the insurance business relies on the majority and statistics in order to have correct premium calculation, therefore the more rapid, comprehensive and effective the digital transformation is, the more insurance companies gain. Thus, insurance companies need to develop strategies and calculate reasonable investment costs to promote digitisation effectively, Phuong noted. According to insurance companies, changing the habit of using technology in insurance activities is difficult, but the boom of digital transformation in life as well as the increasing number of young insurance customers are making it easier for users. Naren Baliga, Business Unit manager at Manulife Vietnam, told tinnhanhchungkhoan.vn that at first, when Manulife’s eClaims digitiser was first launched, many customers were not used to submitting documents online, but now, 95% of the insurance claims of Manulife Vietnam have been sent through this tool. For customers who are still using paper contracts, access to the benefits of electronic contracts as well as other paperless services is only a matter of time, Baliga said. According to the final conclusion, Canada applies an anti-dumping duty of 37.4% on the product from Vietnam and this rate is applied from September 6, 2022. Speaking at the event, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Thanh Phong said developing a transparent and convenient real estate market will bring opportunities to draw capital at home and abroad, thus propelling socio-economic development. Prof. Hoang Van Cuong, Vice Rector of the National Economics University, said land price mechanism for real estate development must be in accordance with the land market value. The selection of realty developers must also follow market mechanism. The State must directly engage in land reclamation and compensation for site clearance in its all approved projects, he said. Meanwhile, former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Prof. Dang Hung Vo highlighted a need to add definition of market price under international standard into the revised Law on Land. WVU Rushing Attack Too Much For Towson | News, Sports, Jobs – The Inter-Mountain https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/wvu-rushing-attack-too-much-for-towson-news-sports-jobs-the-inter-mountain/ MORGANTOWN (AP) — On a day when West Virginia held a ceremony to honor some of its greatest offensive players, the Mountaineers put together their best showing in a year. Tony Mathis rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, CJ Donaldson ran for 101 yards and three scores, and West Virginia breezed to a 65-7 victory over Towson on Saturday. Although it didn’t quite make up for opening the season with close losses to No. 23 Pittsburgh and Kansas, West Virginia piled up 624 yards of offense, scored touchdowns on six of its seven first-half possessions and led its Championship Subdivision opponent 45-7 at halftime before pulling back with a short week before its next game. “Fun day,” said West Virginia coach Neal Brown. “These types of games are important. For the morale of your football team, they’re really important.” Johnson, a freshman, had his second 100-yard rushing effort of the season and pushed his TD total to six. He had just nine carries, an average of 11.2-yards per attempt. He also blocked a punt in the opener against Pitt. Most of his yards Saturday came on an 82-yard scoring run. Playing mostly on defense growing up, Donaldson came to West Virginia as a tight end but was quickly converted to running back and is still getting accustomed to his new role. “That’s my third game ever playing running back,” Donaldson said. “Today I kind of surprised myself with that long run.” Mathis exceeded his career total for touchdowns. He had one TD in 23 previous games. West Virginia (1-2) had 316 rushing yards. Its six rushing touchdowns were the most since it had seven both against Connecticut and Western Michigan in 2007. And yet Mathis felt it wasn’t a perfect game from the backfield. “Still a lot left. You can always get better every game,” he said. West Virginia’s JT Daniels completed 16 of 24 passes for 174 yards in the first half, including a 2-yard TD pass to Kaden Prather. Daniels was replaced by Garrett Greene, Will Crowder and Nicco Marchiol in the second half. Numerous other players saw their first significant action on both sides of the ball for West Virginia, including wide receivers Cortez Braham and Jeremiah Aaron. Braham had five catches for 60 yards and Aaron caught four passes for 29 yards, including his first career TD catch, a 5-yarder from Crowder in the fourth quarter. Redshirt freshman Preston Fox caught a 26-yard TD from Marchiol to close the scoring. Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

PolkStation – One Stop For IDO/INO/IGO & Metaverse And Multi Defi Protocols – Coinpedia Fintech News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/polkstation-one-stop-for-ido-ino-igo-metaverse-and-multi-defi-protocols-coinpedia-fintech-news/ Polkastation combines various DeFi protocols, NFT minting, and marketplace with the Polkadot framework as its base. Though early blockchains serve the purpose of deploying decentralized applications, there are limitations like lack of run-time specialization and limited throughput.  Polkastation wants to deliver a cutting-edge project in the blockchain space and thus chooses Polkadot, bridging multiple specialized chains into one sharded network. Polkadot offers the best returns in the market through various products. As these decentralized applications are deployed on Polkastation’s own blockchains, they have enhanced stability. PolkaStation Ecosystem Live Dapps: PolkaSwap:  Polkastation’s swap allows the instant exchange of two non-native tokens of two different blockchain protocols without any centralized cryptocurrency exchanges. Instead, the operations are decentralized, fueled by smart contracts. Polkastation’s swap also allows the users to add liquidity to pools. You can add your POLKA tokens to the liquidity pools in return for LP tokens. These LP tokens represent your contribution to the addition of liquidity, and you will be rewarded accordingly. NFT Space: Polkastation has an entire NFT ecosystem that facilitates the users to mint their artworks into NFTs, display them in their creator profiles, and make money by selling them on the NFT marketplace. One must need an artist account to create and sell NFTs in the Polkastation NFT marketplace. When a buyer makes an auction to buy your NFTs, the order will be stacked in the order book and executed. With Polkastation, your NFTs need not sit idle in the wallets. Polkastaion allows users to attach their NFTs to the NFT staking protocol in exchange for staking rewards. So, you can earn extra rewards for your NFTs while you still remain the owner. Farming:  The Polkastation AMM engine eliminates the need for intermediaries to carry out trades with the help of farms. Instead, the liquidity providers add LP tokens to the investment pools and get rewarded through yield farming. To enhance liquidity and make an asset a lucrative trade, Polkastation holds the investors’ funds. The period when a liquidity provider waits for the asset’s price to go up is yield farming. IDO Staking Pools:  Polkastation’s IDO staking pool is the easiest way of earning more POLKAS tokens. Two different pools allow you to stake POLKAS and earn POLKAS in return. The first POLKAS-POLKAS pool has a locking period of 30 days and offers an APR of 30%, while the second pool has a threshold lock-in of 60 days and a 50% APR. LaunchStation: Polkastation offers two different fundraising mechanisms, the INO and IDO. Initial NFT Offerings helps projects with innovative ideas to reach a broader and up-to-date web3 community. It helps the projects raise funds with seamless access to instant liquidity before they are functional in the market. The projects can run IDO on Polkastation after the vetting schedule process. They can offer their project tokens for a fixed price, and Polkastation allows users to lock their funds in return for the tokens. Polkastation then distributes the tokens to the investors with the help of smart contracts during the token generation event (TGE). Yield Aggregator: With hundreds of yield farms on the market daily, keeping track of the best-performing ones is tedious. If so, we can track a few; they are not accessible from a single point. To solve this problem, Polkstation has developed a Yield Aggregator to collate multiple best-performing farms in a single place. Polkastation hunts for yield optimization and secures farms in the market to help its community members maximize the yield. PolkaStation (POLKAS) is a Binance smart chain Bep20 token that is solely focused on providing holders with long-term holding benefits through staking, investment opportunity in their foundation and real use case for the entire ecosystem. Find Hidden Treasures At The Brick Basement | Lifestyle | Dailytitan.com – The Daily Titan https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/find-hidden-treasures-at-the-brick-basement-lifestyle-dailytitan-com-the-daily-titan/ Nestled in the heart of downtown Fullerton, The Brick Basement antique mall transports shoppers to a place filled with unique treasures, fabulous trinkets, beautiful glassware and classic gadgets. For the past 20 years, The Brick Basement has served as a place of comfort for new and returning customers.  Upon entering the red-framed glass doors, shoppers are immediately bombarded with an exquisite, season-themed welcome sign and colorful merchandise of all varieties.  The extensive assortment of items is arranged in a systematically chaotic fashion, and dividers indicate different antique dealer booths. The 17 dealers are not always present at the store, but they occupy specific areas where they can display their merchandise. Each space is uniquely designed by the dealers’ tastes and distinct styles. A small sign in one of the store’s corners points “to the basement,” leading customers to the store’s lower level. After descending a wooden staircase, customers find displays for framed posters, lampshades, vases and candle holders. But unlike the upstairs, the basement is a bit more of a disorganized mess rather than strategically placed items to appear like an aesthetically pleasing mess.  Behind the Brick Basement is Carol Walker and Nathan Piliero, its co-owners. Before purchasing The Brick Basement eight years ago, Walker owned and ran an antique store in Yorba Linda for 20 years. Walker started as a dealer in The Brick Basement, showcasing her treasures in a designated area. Once the previous owners decided to sell the place, Walker didn’t pass up the chance. Walker said that over the past eight years, she has built a rapport and one-of-a-kind relationship with her customers.  “You want to make sure that if they need something, even if it isn’t in the store, that you’re available because a lot of my customers are more mature,” she said. “My husband and I always tell them, ‘if you need help at home, let us know we’ll come over and we’ll do whatever we can for you there, too.’” Luis Rodriguez, a frequent customer and Cal State Fullerton student, was first introduced to The Brick Basement by a friend he met while taking a fashion design class.  “I think it has a lot of cool, unique stuff that a variety of people would like,” Rodriguez said. Walker emphasized the importance of customers like Rodriguez, for a small business, especially during the pandemic. “The pandemic was very difficult for all small businesses, I feel blessed that we were able to manage and walk our way through,” Walker said. Amid the pandemic, Walker said she had to make the difficult decision of cutting back store hours. “When you run a business, you have to think about all the costs of running it; and so you had to compress it to ensure that things were going well for you and for the dealers,” Walker said. Avid fans of antiquing and thrifting, Magdalena Jimenez and Dylan Banuelos visited the antique mall after finding out about it online. Jimenez said she and her boyfriend often like to visit downtown Fullerton. “We go to thrift and stuff like that, so I wanted to see if I could find anything cool here,” said Jimenez.  Walker believes that great customer service is the most important aspect of a business. “If you don’t make them feel welcome, if you don’t find out what they’re looking for, if you don’t allow them freedom to walk around— you lose business because they don’t want you to hover,” Walker said. “They want to have freedom.” For those who want to save money and connect with the community, The Brick Basement is the perfect hidden gem where customers can shop to their heart’s desire. For more information regarding store hours and new item arrivals, customers can find them through Instagram and Facebook.

Consider A “Blockchain Concierge” Service – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/have-a-genius-web3-idea-dont-have-what-it-takes-to-build-it-alone-consider-a-blockchain-concierge-service-cryptonews/ Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com. Photo by Dylan Gillis on Unsplash Our society has a number of phrases that paint a distinct picture of a sole proprietor.  “Jack of all trades, master of none.”  “It takes a village.”  “No man is an island.”   It’s not necessarily a pretty picture.  The fact is, a business—even a small one—needs many different skill sets to operate well.  This is further illustrated by the fact that you can get full degrees for these various skills:  marketing, finance, accounting, project management, etc.  And those skills are just for the administrative overhead.  If you are actually building something, especially a digital platform, the skills needed are even greater.  Front end and back end developers, database specialists, cyber security, cloud architecture, UI/UX engineer, web designer, app designer, graphics artist, and more.  If your platform is blockchain based, add in even more developers, along with a tokenomics expert.   Another interesting fact is, no one who has started a platform took the time to sufficiently master each of these skills before starting their business.  Many have decided they would learn as they go.  This is, in part, why so many businesses fail.  Others have built teams based on their networks, getting team members who are capable (but not likely experts) in the various skill sets needed.  Using one’s network is fine in that you already have relationships and trust built up.  However, it also limits the level of skill you have to choose from. So what are sole proprietors, and even small teams, supposed to do in order to give their big idea the best chance at success?  Thankfully, there are some options.  Let’s touch on a few of the ones you may already recognize, then dive into an emerging architecture called “concierge” services.  We’ll look at what they do, how they are similar (but distinct) to a few other business models, and we will look at a provider called AllianceBlock that serves as a comprehensive example. The Blockchain Platform’s Journey For many blockchain platforms, the journey to a full launch takes a similar path.  The founder or founders start with an idea, usually a pain point or an opportunity for something new (and presumably wanted by the community).  Founders are often technically inclined, with experience as developers, tenure at TradFi/TradTech companies, or are simply serial entrepreneurs.  The founding team is almost always driven more by relationships than skills, with a team of trusted people each taking a part.  Sometimes they are well qualified, sometimes less so.  If the team can make it through the next phase of their growth—usually developing and refining the idea, hopefully building a proof of concept prototype—they then begin the journey for funding.  For those teams who are initially self-funded, they may be able to develop enough to create an ICO.  With the market of tokens fairly saturated, the team would have to have built up a strong following before this in order to make sales and keep the price where they want it.   For other teams, the path to ICO is too long, and funding is required sooner.  For these teams, options include self-funding (and asking people they know to invest); for the lucky teams, they might be able to catch the attention of a startup incubator/accelerator, which brings help in the form of experts, as well as an introduction to VC (venture capital) firms.  It is here where some very large fundraising can be made, though the price (in the form of a percentage of the platform) might be steep.  Still, if the funds are raised and the platform is successful, owning part of a thriving platform is much better than owning 100% of a dead one. Emerging Trend:  The Concierge Service This is quite the journey, with many things that have to go right.  You have to know the right people, sell your idea to the right people, hope they don’t already have similar investments, hope the market is where it needs to be, and hope that the technical development actually happens.  Entrepreneurs above all others want to be masters of their own fate, but there is frankly a lot of luck involved with this process.  This fact is not lost on entrepreneurs and founding teams, especially in the crypto space.  Based on this pain point, there is a new type of business model emerging.  It’s called a “concierge” service, because it can get you whatever you need.  The services aren’t free, of course, but the beauty is that you can pick and choose what services you need.  Do you have a strong development team but lack the smart contract experience you need?  They can help with that.  Do you need to tie your platform to a bridge?  Yep, they can do that.  Do you need to raise funds?  They can even help with that.  In a sense, this business model is not only like a concierge, it is a “X-as-a-service” a la carte menu.  Use your team’s strengths, and ask the concierge for what you are lacking.   In a way, this type of model is not new.  The “blockchain-as-a-service” and its many niches have been around for several years.  What makes concierge services unique is that they house all the services you might want to use, and help coordinate their interaction to ensure the process is efficient.  Kind of like a concierge. Take AllianceBlock, one of the larger dedicated concierge service platforms for blockchain.  They provide their own options for funding, DeFi development, smart contract creation, bridging, data protection, and even DEX services.  While other players offer some of these services, AllianceBlock might be the only platform to offer it all.  In particular, their Fundrs service is especially unique, as it moves the funding process away from VCs, and instead opens up funding to the larger community.   Think about it like a Kickstarter for blockchain, except the concierge is also managing the other business services a platform needs.  For Fundrs, platforms can apply for funding by showing their plans and laying out options for investors.  Those members who are staked into the platform can look at these investment opportunities and take part if they’d like.  To ensure the selected projects are progressing as promised, the milestone funding process ensures that there is a strong accountability aspect to the project, protecting investors and motivating the project team.  This also helps with community awareness, as the many investors become vocal advocates for the project, encouraging others to invest so the project will be successful and their return will be profitable. Looking Forward The entrepreneurial spirit will always be a core part of our society.  It’s what drives innovation, and is a great opportunity for those with big ideas, a lot of energy, and who are willing to put in the work.  With concierge services, it is promising to see how development teams are gaining more and more ways to help boost their platform, shore up any weaknesses, build a community of investors, and focus on their core innovation above everything else.

Global Tech Titans Under Growing NZ Pressure To Pay For News – Asia Pacific Report https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/global-tech-titans-under-growing-nz-pressure-to-pay-for-news-asia-pacific-report/ RNZ News By Colin Peacock, RNZ Mediawatch presenter There is mounting pressure on tech titans Google and Facebook to pay local news media to carry their news online. Google has already done deals with some for its News Showcase, but other big names in news are still trying to get the platforms to pay — and the government is hinting it could force the issue soon. “Are you putting the hard word on them to secure deals to pay for content? Are you going to legislate?” Newshub Nation host Simon Shepherd asked Willie Jackson last weekend, putting the hard word on the broadcasting and media minister. “Are you putting the hard word on them to secure deals to pay for content? Are you going to legislate?” Newshub Nation host Simon Shepherd asked Willie Jackson a week ago, putting the hard word on the broadcasting and media minister. “I’m trying really hard. I have said to them, [in] three months let’s see the deals in the marketplace,” the minister replied. For years local news media have griped about getting very little from the platforms distributing their stuff to huge audiences  — and profiting from it. The thing most likely to persuade the tech titans to pay local newsmakers is the likelihood of the government forcing the issue with legislation — and this was the first time that a government minister had set any kind of deadline publicly. ‘I want to see fairness’ “I want to see some fairness. I want to see all these Kiwi news organisations looked after . . and these big players have the funding and the resourcing to be able to do that,” Willie Jackson told Newshub Nation. Some of the deals that have been done were revealed earlier this month when Google launched the local version of its News Showcase service, now available via Google’s websites and apps. The first Kiwi outlets ever to get regular payments from Google for that include The New Zealand Herald’s owner NZME and its subscriber subsidiary BusinessDesk, RNZ, online sites Scoop and Newsroom and the Pacific Media Network. There is also a handful of local outlets too like Crux, which serves the Southern Lakes region, and Kapiti News. “It’s part of our commitment to continuing to play a part in what we see as a very important shared responsibility to ensure the long term sustainability of public interest journalism in New Zealand,” Google’s local country representative Carolyn Rainsford told RNZ’s Gyles Beckford recently. Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson described that as “a good start, but not enough” — while the Spinoff’s founder Duncan Grieve was also underwhelmed. He reckoned it was actually Willie Jackson that Google had in mind with the Showcase launch “to create a sense that Google is now a solid and public spirited ally to the news industry”. Deal “close” report on NZME and Google. Image: Mediawatch/RNZ For now, Google News Showcase is far from a comprehensive or compelling service for Kiwis. It offers nothing from our biggest national news producer Stuff or other big names in news like TVNZ and Newshub — or smaller outlets such Allied Press and The Spinoff. Bargaining collectively Several publishers — including Stuff — have banded together with the News Publishers Association to bargain collectively with Google and Meta (the parent company of Facebook). Earlier this year the Commerce Commission gave them permission to negotiate a deal for a 10-year period. So how’s that going? “We can’t comment much on the status, but we are engaging with the NPA,” was all Google’s regional head of partnerships Shilpa Jhunjhunwala would tell RNZ earlier this month. A recent report by the Judith Nielsen Institute estimate Google and Facebook paid Australian media companies about A$200m last year. “Unfortunately an interview won’t be possible,” Google New Zealand told Mediawatch last week (without explaining why). Instead they gave us a statement attributable to Caroline Rainsford, country director Google New Zealand: “We are proud of the launch of Google News Showcase and continuing our conversations with other local news media businesses.” “We can’t give you any kind of commercial numbers because they’re all commercial and in confidence,” Google’s regional head of partnerships Shilpa Jhunjhunwala told RNZ’s Gyles Beckford earlier this month. When pressed, she said Google’s global commitment to News Showcase was $1 billion over three years. “But beyond that, we’re not able to share anything specific to New Zealand,” she said. Why is there no deal with other New Zealand news publishers yet? ‘No serious offers on table’ “Those negotiations are underway, but neither of those companies have put any serious offers on the table,” Stuff chief executive Sinead Boucher told Mediawatch. She said the Australian deals were their benchmark. “What we produce is very similar kind of content and we operate in very similar markets. We’d be looking for payments that equate to more like NZ$40 million to $50 million a year into the industry here,” she said. “I think the government and Minister Jackson have made clear that the government expect fair deals to be done — and that they are prepared to legislate in the near term to ensure that happens,” she said. “The only way to materially address this is to create an environment where we can negotiate fair commercial payment from these giant multinationals who have built their businesses entirely off content created by other people,” she said. “You could think of any search term and put it into Google and look down the results and see that a new story created by somebody is part of the results. What we are focused on negotiating a commercial payment for that content in the same way that you would for any other product,” she said. “If you invested in a car and someone started running it as a taxi, you would expect them to compensate you for that — not to build their own business without recognising your investment,” Boucher told Mediawatch. “Our problem is that these platforms are very reluctant to come to the table and have a fair negotiation. That’s why the sort of legislation has been needed in Australia and other countries and also here in New Zealand,” she said. The tale across the Tasman. For more than a decade, he chaired the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Australia’s competition regulator. “It was fraught at times, but we presented the report to government in mid-2019 and they accepted the recommendation to have a News Media Bargaining Code six months later. It was legislated in February 2021. That’s pretty quick in terms of policy development in Australia,” Sims told Mediawatch. “Google’s done a deal with essentially all media businesses. Meta has only done a deal with media businesses which that employ 85 percent of (Australia’s) journalists. It’s crucial that . . . it’s widely shared and you need legislation so that everybody has the ability to bargain. “I know for a fact that the payments were well in excess of A$200 million — so NZ $40 million to $50 million sounds absolutely the right number to be spread across all media,” he said. “Google and Meta were required to bargain with all eligible media businesses — and if they could not reach agreement, then arbitration would come into place. The threat of that evened up the bargaining power,” he said. “The second component was that if Google and Meta did a deal with one media player, then they were required under law to do a deal with all media players. So their choice was either have no media content on their platform, or do deals,” he said. “They chose to do deals with media companies because there’s value to them,” he said. Arbitration threat needed “I’m a bit concerned that in New Zealand you don’t have arbitration at the end of the negotiation period negotiations fail,” he said. A Google officer once told me struggling news media pleading for “compensation” were like redundant drivers of horse-drawn carriages and rickshaws expecting today’s taxi drivers to pay them. “No, that’s completely wrong. This is not like the car taking the place of the horse and carriage or smartphones taking the place of Kodak film because Google and Facebook don’t produce any journalism. So they haven’t taken the place of media, because they’re just not in the media business,” Rod Sims told Mediawatch. “For Google to be a good search engine, it needs to bring in media into its search just about every time. But they don’t need any particular media company. So only by the News Media Bargaining Code could you even up the bargaining power,” he said. “Unless we get payment for media that’s being taken and used for free, we’ll have a lot less media and less media harms society,” he said. “It’s not up to me to tell the New Zealand government what to do, but my advice would be to pass the Australian News Media Bargaining Code,” he said. Adani Group To Become Most Profitable Cement Manufacturer The Indian Express
Adani Group To Become Most Profitable Cement Manufacturer The Indian Express
Adani Group To Become Most Profitable Cement Manufacturer – The Indian Express https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/adani-group-to-become-most-profitable-cement-manufacturer-the-indian-express/ Days after completing a USD 6.5 billion acquisition of Ambuja Cements and ACC, billionaire Gautam Adani said his group has planned to double cement manufacturing capacity and become the most profitable manufacturer in the country. He saw a multifold rise in cement demand in India on the back of record-breaking economic growth and the government’s infrastructure creation push, which will give significant margin expansion. In a speech made at an event to mark the completion of the acquisition on September 17, the Adani Group founder and chairman said the ports-to-energy conglomerate has in a single stroke become the second largest cement manufacturer in the country. Adani Group last week completed buyout of Swiss major Holcim’s stake in the two firms. Calling the acquisition historic, he said this buyout is India’s largest ever inbound M&A transaction in the infrastructure and materials space and closed in a record time of 4 months. “Our entry into this business is happening at a time when India is on the cusp of one of the greatest economic surges seen in the modern world,” he said in the speech, which was released on Monday. Stating reasons for the foray into the cement space, he said while India is the second largest producer of cement in the world, its per capita consumption is just 250 kg compared to 1,600 kg of China. “This is almost a 7x headroom for growth.” Also, “as several of the government’s programmes gather momentum, the long-term average growth in cement demand is expected to be 1.2 to 1.5 times the GDP. We anticipate growing at twice this number,” he said. With trillion-dollar investment planned in infrastructure and housing in the country, cement is an attractive “adjacency to our infrastructure business, especially the group’s ports and logistics business, green energy business, and the e-commerce platform being developed,” he said. Adani Group’s competency in driving operational efficiency will result in “significant margin expansion to become the most profitable cement manufacturer in the country,” he said. “And we anticipate going from the current 70 million tonne capacity to 140 million tonne in next 5 years.” On his group’s growth philosophy, Adani, 60, said it is the belief in India’s growth story. India will be a USD 25-30 trillion economy by 2050, which points to huge growth prospects, he said. The group is the world’s largest solar power company and has committed USD 70 billion investment in clean energy business including green hydrogen, he said. Adani Group is the largest airport operator in the nation with 25 per cent of passenger traffic and 40 per cent of air cargo. It is the largest ports and logistics company in the country with a 30 per cent market share. “We are India’s largest integrated energy player spanning generation, transmission, distribution, LNG, LPG, city gas and piped gas distribution. Each of these businesses is growing at double-digit rates,” he said. While the group has won some of the largest road contracts in the country and is on the way to becoming the largest player in this sector, a grand IPO of Adani Wilmar has made it the highest-valued FMCG company in the country. “We have declared our path forward in multiple new sectors that include data centers, super apps, aerospace and defence, industrial clouds, metals, and petrochemicals,” he said. “Our finances are stronger than ever before, and we continue to raise billions of dollars from international markets and strategic partners to further accelerate our growth.” Adani Group’s market cap, he said, stands at USD 260 billion – having grown faster than any company ever in India, he added.

Ageing: Here Are The Superfoods For Anti-Ageing You Must Know About – NDTV Doctor https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ageing-here-are-the-superfoods-for-anti-ageing-you-must-know-about-ndtv-doctor/ Home »  Living Healthy »  Ageing: Here Are The Superfoods For Anti-Ageing You Must Know About Dr. Kiran discusses skincare and reveals some superfoods that are important for healthy skin.   By: DoctorNDTV    Edited By:  NDTV Health Desk Updated: Sep 19, 2022 10:46 IST 5-Min Read Strawberries like other berries are rich in antioxidants which help slowdown ageing There’s no way you can avoid ageing. The process is a part and parcel of life that you have to face and accept wholeheartedly. However, with that, comes a need for an anti-ageing skincare regime. Because of course, people feel if they are ageing anyway, do it rather gracefully. The process of ageing starts showing on your skin first, sometimes, at an early age as well, and no one likes dullness, or wrinkles developing on the face. There are many anti-ageing products available on the market. But, you should also know that your food habits go a long way in keeping your skin healthy. Dr Kiran shares a post on Instagram listing superfoods for anti-ageing. She states, “Ageing is a change. And we all change, every year, every decade. But does ageing mean bad skin? Not if I can help it. Not if you can help it. Sometimes, a lot of what ages us, somewhat prematurely, besides genes, are environmental factors and a bad diet.” In a detailed caption, she also says, “Diets comprising high fat, processed food or fast food, fried food, packaged food, irradiated food, junk food margarine and starchy vegetables create oxidative stress, resulting in the production of more free radicals.” She further explains, “A balanced diet is of utmost importance to maintain healthy skin. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables that are rich in minerals and vitamins known for their anti-ageing benefits.” According to Dr Kiran, here are the superfoods for anti-ageing: Food items that are powerhouses of antioxidants: 1. Beans Small red beans (dried) are the highest source of antioxidants in the world. In fact, it has been found that three out of five of the highest antioxidant potential foods are beans. This food item fights free radicals and is extremely beneficial for healthy ageing. Red kidney beans have plenty of antioxidants and overcome free radicals easily. 2. Tomatoes Tomatoes contain antioxidants and lycopene. The latter prevents cancer (prostate cancer), and muscular degeneration. It also has anti-ageing properties. 3. Berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries) Berries are abundant in fibre, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants – all of these help in the prevention of cancer and heart disease and check age-related damage. 4. Red grapes Red grapes have resveratrol and quercetin that strengthen heart function. The antioxidants act as free-radical scavengers and help keep blood vessels unblocked. Resveratrol also protects against gastric problems, stroke and arthritis. 5. Pomegranates Pomegranates, known to contain beneficial nutrients and antioxidants help reduce blood pressure and the impact of cardiovascular and heart disease.   6. Teas and spices Ground cloves, cinnamon and oregano have rich content of antioxidants. 7. Vitamin C This helps facilitate youthful skin and collagen synthesis. Natural sources of vitamin C are citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and some other vegetables. 8. Vitamin A It protects the body from solar radiation severity. Sources of vitamin A are carrots, broccoli, kale, tomatoes etc. 9. Vitamin E This keeps the skin healthy and youthful. It fights skin ageing from within. Sources of vitamin E are sunflower oil, grains, oats, nuts and avocado. 10. Roots Ginger assists the digestive system. It eases arthritis and reduces free radicals in the body. Radish and turnip are known to be excellent anti-ageing foods.Garlic is packed with antioxidants and is known for anti-ageing benefits. It fights free radicals and prevents blood clotting. 11. Nuts Remember, peanuts are legumes and they are well-known to be inflammatory. So, don’t add those to your anti-ageing diet. Walnuts are good for anti-ageing as they are abundant in omega-3 fatty acids. Nuts strengthen the immune system and remove dryness from the skin. Avoid rancid nuts as they are abundant in free radicals.   Take a look: Now, don’t forget to include these food items in your diet. Stay healthy. Plenty Of Positives For Bobcats In Home Invite – Marshalltown Times Republican https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/plenty-of-positives-for-bobcats-in-home-invite-marshalltown-times-republican/ T-R PHOTO BY NOAH ROHLFING – Marshalltown junior Averie Wittkop competes in the 100-yard butterfly during Saturday’s Bobcat Invite at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA. Wittkop recorded a season-best time of 1 minute, 4.52 seconds to finish in second place, matching the Bobcats’ top result on their way to fifth place in the final team standings. A big test for the Marshalltown girls’ swimming team was answered positively by the Bobcat divers and swimmers, with a fifth-place team finish in the Bobcat Invite with 126 points in one of the toughest meets the team will run all season — and a passed test for head coach Angie Nelson. “I think we had some really solid performances and some things to be excited for,” Nelson said. “Saw some great races that were just good races, they were fun to watch the girls go. That was exciting. I’d say it was a great day.” Early on Saturday, the Bobcats got a second-place finish from Abby Tollefson in diving — with her score of 489.5 points more than 60 behind Grinnell star Trista Thompson’s 550.1. Kaisa Stanley finished in fifth place with a score of 386.7. Thompson was last year’s state runner-up, while Tollefson finished fourth. Tollefson was one of two Bobcats to finish second in their events, with Averie Wittkop putting in a season-best effort in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 1 minute, 4.52 seconds was less than one second behind winner Lucy Haars of Linn-Mar. T-R PHOTO BY NOAH ROHLFING – Marshalltown freshman Libby Meyer competes in the 100-yard freestyle during Saturday’s Bobcat Invite at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA. Meyer placed 22nd in the event with a time of 1 minute, 6.98 seconds. Nelson was thrilled by Wittkop’s showing in the event. “Averie really did a great job in that butterfly,” Nelson said. “What a great solid race for her, that’s the fastest she’s ever gone in the butterfly. “It’s nice to have the competition.” Wittkop then finished fifth in the 100 backstroke with a 1:06.72 time. Lesli Waltermire was another Bobcat with a strong day in the pool. In the 50 freestyle, she finished third with a 25.7 race, just ahead of teammate Maeve Janssen at 25.85. Nelson said she loved the competition between the two star swimmers, particularly in the 50 as they were in lanes right next to each other. Waltermire added a sixth-place result for the Bobcats in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.23. Marshalltown’s other best results came in the relays — with a fifth-place finish from the Bobcats in the 200 freestyle relay as the group of Waltermire, Rachel Case, Wittkop and Janssen put together a good race. Nelson said the Bobcats are still trying to find their best four-person units for the relays. “They gelled pretty good,” Nelson said. “We’re still kind of looking around for what things are gonna look like going into the future. We’ve gotta just keep pushing and hopefully we’ll come up with a solid group for every single one of those.” The 400 free relay finished in third place thanks to a strong run from the group of Maisie Gummert, Wittkop, Janssen and Waltermire. Time-based seeding was huge for the Bobcats, Nelson said, and it was especially important for younger Bobcats like Gummert and Case to get more experience in real competition, going up against swimmers with similar times and racing side-by-side. “With our newer ones, it’s a great opportunity to be in a very competitive race,” Nelson said. “Everything today was right across the lanes and everything was an awesome, competitive opportunity.” Up next for Marshalltown is a quad Tuesday night at Des Moines North High School. The Bobcats will take on North, Roosevelt and Ottumwa. Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

Crypto Whale Buys 55.8 ETH Of Tamadoge Tokens To End Presale – Business 2 Community https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/crypto-whale-buys-55-8-eth-of-tamadoge-tokens-to-end-presale-business-2-community/ The final days of the Tamadoge (TAMA) presale this weekend were marked by large FOMO buys worth upwards of $80,000 in Ethereum. On crypto trader Jacob Bury’s Discord channel a member reported a TAMA purchase worth 55.8 ETH was tracked on Etherscan, and shortly before that one for 40 ETH. Tamadoge Presale Ends Early The Tamadoge token presale hit its target of 19 million USDT on Sunday, a hard cap that Jacob noted on YouTube was higher than the 2014 Ethereum ICO and the 2022 STEPN ICO. The next phase of the Tamadoge roadmap is its listing on crypto exchanges – so far LBank and Uniswap DEX have been announced, with more CEX listings rumored to be in the pipeline. Tamadoge 40 ETH buy on Etherscan – source On September 20th the project will announce how presale investors can claim their TAMA tokens – instructions will be posted in the Telegram chat group which now has over 51,000 members (refer to the pinned messages for information, moderators will not DM you). Optionally buyers can also sign up to an email mailing list, or the project’s Discord. The presale ran from July 25th to September 18th, just under eight weeks – one of the most successful crypto presales of this year alongside Battle Infinity which we also reviewed, another play to earn crypto token that rose in value by several hundred percent at its IDO. The large whale buys this weekend could indicate that TAMA will also perform well on launch day. Tamadoge was featured on CNBC last week as having high potential with its deflationary tokenomics and similarity to popular video games. Biden Again Says U.S. Would Help Taiwan If China Attacks WGLT
Biden, Again, Says U.S. Would Help Taiwan If China Attacks – WGLT https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/biden-again-says-u-s-would-help-taiwan-if-china-attacks-wglt/ President Joe Biden says the U.S. will defend Taiwan if China stages an “unprecedented attack” on the island, his latest in a string of remarks over the past year that have been unusually explicit about America’s intentions in the face of growing pressure from Beijing. In an interview with the CBS news show 60 Minutes that aired on Sunday, Biden was asked if U.S. forces would defend Taiwan — a self-ruled democracy that sits roughly 100 miles off the Chinese coast and is claimed by Beijing as part of China. “Yes, if in fact, there was an unprecedented attack,” Biden replied. Asked again if, unlike in Ukraine, U.S. forces would get involved in the event of a Chinese invasion, Biden replied: “Yes.” On three previous occasions since mid-2021 Biden has made similar public comments suggesting that the U.S. would get involved in a conflict over Taiwan. Some observers say the remarks contradict a long-standing preference from U.S. administrations for ambiguity on the issue of defending Taiwan, as a way to deter both China and Taiwan from taking steps that could alter the status quo. The White House has said the remarks do not represent a change in U.S. policy. After the 60 Minutes interview aired, a White House spokesperson said: “The president has said this before… He also made clear then that our Taiwan policy hasn’t changed. That remains true.” Still, the interview is sure to anger Beijing, which has accused U.S. politicians of sending “wrong signals” to those in Taiwan who favor formal independence. China’s ruling Communist Party sees Taiwan as unfinished business from the civil war, which ended in 1949 with the defeated Nationalist Party fleeing to the island. Beijing has vowed to bring Taiwan back into the fold – ideally by peaceful means, it says, but by force if necessary. Polls show, however, that a large majority of Taiwan’s 23 million people prefer the status quo, and oppose unification with China. Biden said the U.S. was not encouraging Taiwan’s independence — a red line for Beijing — but he added: “Taiwan makes their own judgments about their independence…that’s their decision.” By law, the U.S. has a commitment to provide Taiwan with means to defend itself. Debate about what that should look like has intensified in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. China has also tipped the balance of power across the Taiwan Strait with a sweeping, multi-year modernization of its armed forces. While U.S. officials insist that America’s policy toward Taiwan has not changed, informal relations between Washington and Taipei have warmed as tensions between the U.S. and China have worsened in recent years. In a phone call in July, Chinese leader Xi Jinping warned Biden against American meddling on the Taiwan issue, saying “those who play with fire eventually get burned.” Last month, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, becoming the most senior U.S. official to set foot on the island since Newt Gingrich traveled to the island as House Speaker in 1997. China was livid over the visit, and in the weeks since it has conducted military drills near Taiwan and flown warplanes across the median line down the center of the Taiwan Strait that separates Taiwan from the mainland. GEORGE — Right arms raised, firefighters Jesse Christensen, Russell Nield and Nicholas Peterson swore an oath of office for Washington City Fire Department last Wednesday, officially beginning their city positions.  Firefighters Russel Nield, Jesse Christensen and Nicholas Peterson swear their oath of service for Washington City Fire Department, Washington, Utah, Sept. 14, 2022 | Photo by Truman Burgess, St. George News “We are very fortunate to get the caliber of people that we have, and these three represent the top of the line and continue to surprise you every time you see them,” Fire Chief Matt Evans said.  “These three individuals represent your support in the three positions that were approved in this budget year that started in July.”  “Three people really equate to one, since we work three shifts,” Evans said, referring to why he always hires in groups of three. Each firefighter introduced himself and his family and friends at the pulpit. Afterwards, the fire fighter swore an oath of service and received official badges in front of the council. Christensen was born and raised in Utah County. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, near where his immediate family still resides. “My extended family is mostly from Vegas, where my parents were raised,” Christensen said. “We would frequently make trips down to the area when I was younger, and I quickly fell in love with the heat and beautiful red rock of Washington City. I moved to (Washington City) in 2019 and have lived here since.” Christensen said he used to commute from Washington to the South Jordan Fire Department before receiving this position in the town he lives in. “I was very lucky and blessed to be selected for employment in the city I live and love so much.” Nield turned 23 years old on Wednesday, making his Washington City Fire Department badge an evening birthday present. Nield grew up in Hurricane and he’s the middle child of three boys. “I started getting into the fire service because my ex-father-in-law worked for Clark County Fire, and I saw how much he loved it,” Nield said. “He helped me study and learn.” Fire Chief Matt Evans and firefighters Russel Nield, Jesse Christensen and Nicholas Peterson stand with their families after swearing an oath of service, Washington, Utah, Sept. 14, 2022 | Photo by Truman Burgess, St. George News “I chose to work for Washington City because it’s a part of the community that I am around a lot, and I found out this department is the best and really is a family. I’m so grateful and excited to be a part of such a great department where I can serve and help the community.” Peterson is originally from Orem. He lives in St. George and has a wife and five young children. Peterson said he used to be a firefighter in St. George, “but great things are happening here in Washington, and it shows,” he said. Lining up side-by-side before the council, the three new firefighters followed their fire chief in swearing an oath of service as firefighters in Washington City Fire Department. The oath is as follows: “I do solemnly swear that I will support, obey, and defend the constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Utah, and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity.” For more information about the  Washington City Fire Department, or to schedule a tour for a time between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday contact Fire Chief Matt Evans at [email protected], or call the department’s main station at 435-673-4788. Overseas Investors Eyeing Up Local Firms, Investment Company Says – RNZ https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/overseas-investors-eyeing-up-local-firms-investment-company-says-rnz/ Navigation for News Categories JLL said there had been a marked increase in interest from offshore investors. Photo: 123RF Green shoots are appearing in the retail sector as Covid-19 restrictions ease and international visitors return. Property management and investment firm JLL said while retailers faced immediate economic headwinds, the medium-term outlook provided some positives. JLL local head of research Gavin Read said chief among the pressures were labour shortages, and he hoped the government would further ease immigration settings. But one positive was overseas investors eyeing up local firms, particularly after the border reopening, he said. “We have seen a marked increase in not only conversations but having meetings with offshore investors locally and finding out about where is New Zealand at. “That will be a continuation of what it we saw pre-pandemic.” Read expected more offshore capital looking for “a home in New Zealand” next year. While overseas interest had grown he had not seen many transactions so far this year. Elsewhere in the New Zealand property sector, mixed-use developments were on the rise. “Notable developments include Seascape Auckland, Britomart’s Barrington, Sofrana Buildings on Customs Street East and Galway Street, and 110 Carlton Gore Road by Manson,” Read said. He said the central business district retail sector’s recovery would also be fuelled by more workers returning to the office more regularly. “We see a real synergy between these two sectors, and retail developers and investors will be paying close attention to the ‘flight to quality’ that now defines New Zealand’s prime office market.” Get the RNZ app for ad-free news and current affairs

OPINION: Meditation — The Forgotten Key To A Healthy Life – N.C. State University Technician Online https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/opinion-meditation-the-forgotten-key-to-a-healthy-life-n-c-state-university-technician-online/ If someone asked you to imagine what it looks like to live a healthy life, what would you picture? A balanced diet, exercise, fresh air and regular checkups with a doctor? This is a typical response, but it fails to encapsulate all the habits that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. One of the most underutilized tactics to achieve a sound mind and body is meditation.  Our world is crammed with constant work and movement, forcing us to live at a fast pace with high expectations. When we lack time to process our activities or the information we consume, we experience a chronic disconnect between the outside world and the inner self. College students especially are under constant pressure to be doing something at all times, whether it be studying, joining clubs or going out with friends. Doing nothing is almost taboo. A few days of business might be doable, but living your life with so much intensity can quickly create anxiety and fatigue.  Intentionally taking time out of your day to do nothing is vital to maintaining stability against the constant movement of the world around you. Meditation allows for a mental reset, giving you time to take deep breaths and sit with yourself. You can use this time to reflect on your day or try to clear your mind of all worries. The ability to refocus or clear your mind is a helpful and easy method for reducing anxiety. According to the National Institute of Health, mindfulness-based tactics can help treat anxiety and depression. Though, keep in mind that meditation is not a replacement for medication or counseling. I like to use meditation to reconnect with my body. I turn my focus onto each body part for a moment, paying attention to how they feel, the contact they have with the ground or air, how they blend into the next body part. It’s easy to get caught up in your brain but grounding yourself in the rest of your body helps build a connection between the two.  Meditation is also the easiest outlet for spirituality. Having some level of spiritualism in your life can aid your physical, mental and emotional health. According to the Journal of Religion and Health, “Spirituality can serve as important coping mechanisms in this context by offering social support and inclusion in social networks, by sustaining lifestyle changes and by promoting positive emotions, such as forgiveness and an overall optimistic outlook.” While most spiritual outlets require a significant time or energy commitment, meditating is the most efficient way to add an aspect of spirituality into your daily routine without requiring any dedication to an established religious or devotional cause.  Along with creating a calming effect, mindfulness has physical benefits as well. Regular meditation can prevent the loss of gray matter in your brain as you age, reduce inflammation in the body and help maintain healthy blood pressure. You won’t notice these changes right away, of course, but consistent meditation compounds into tangible health improvements with time. If meditation still doesn’t sound appealing to you based on preconceptions of it, don’t let that deter you. This can be a very individualized process. If you don’t want to have to sit down, then you can meditate standing up or laying down. If you don’t want to sit in silence, then play music or white noise. You can think about your day or about the meaning of life or about nothing at all.  I believe everyone should get in the habit of meditating every day, even for just five minutes. It may be difficult or uncomfortable at first, but within weeks you will see improvements in your outlook on life. You can meditate anywhere, anytime, any way. You just have to choose to be mindful.

Sports World Reacts To Brittney Griner Offer News – The Spun https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/sports-world-reacts-to-brittney-griner-offer-news-the-spun/ PHOENIX, AZ – OCTOBER 8: Brittney Griner #42 of the Phoenix Mercury looks on during the game against the Las Vegas Aces during Game Five of the 2021 WNBA Semifinals on October 8, 2021 at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.  (Photo by Jeff Bottari/NBAE via Getty Images) Jeff Bottari/Getty Images While the U.S. government is attempting to bring WNBA star Brittney Griner home, the Russian administration has reportedly not responded to President Biden’s offers. “Biden and his team, including Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, previously stated in August that the United States made a “substantial” proposition for Russia in attempt to secure Griner and Whelan’s release. However, U.S. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Friday that Russia has not responded to the proposal from Biden’s administration, resulting in Griner and Whelan remaining under Russian imprisonment,” Sports Illustrated reports. President Biden met with Griner’s family this week. Griner, who has been in Russian custody for several months, is understandably growing frustrated by her situation. “Sadly we don’t have a result here to tell you about but the president felt that it was important to continue the dialogue with the family members,” Kirby said, per Bloomberg. “The primary goal of the meeting today is to be able to update families and keep them completely apprised of where we are in the process.” Brittney’s wife, meanwhile, was encouraged by the meeting with President Biden. We’d love to see Brittney Griner back home soon. Hopefully Russia can eventually respond to the offer.
