MEXICAN ANTITRUST COMMISSION AUTHORIZES COMMERCIAL ALLIANCE AGREEMENT BETWEEN ALLEGIANT AND VIVA AEROBUS – PR Newswire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/mexican-antitrust-commission-authorizes-commercial-alliance-agreement-between-allegiant-and-viva-aerobus-pr-newswire/
Cross-country alliance reaches major milestone in gaining Mexico’s regulatory approval; U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) approval still in process
, /PRNewswire/ — Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) and Viva Aerobus today announced that the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) unconditionally authorized the Commercial Alliance Agreement between both airlines announced in December 2021. This alliance also includes a strategic equity investment by Allegiant in the Mexican airline.
This agreement, a first-of-its-kind in the airline industry between two ultra low cost carriers (ULCCs), will seek to expand low-fare service between Mexico and the United States. Ultimately, this alliance will give the public access to safe and reliable air transport between both countries with a focus on serving destinations that do not currently offer nonstop service
“COFECE’s authorization is one step forward to forging an alliance that will strengthen a competitive environment with a larger offering between Mexico and the U.S.,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus. “Working as a team, we will boost air travel and tourism while reaping the economic benefits associated with the travel industry.”
This fully-integrated agreement will enable Allegiant and Viva Aerobus to have cross-functionality between their respective loyalty programs, codesharing, sales systems and route networks to operate flights together with all the benefits and advantages of both airlines. Through this alliance, Allegiant, which currently does not serve Mexico, will be able to rapidly enter and expand in the market, while Viva will be able to grow its presence in multiple U.S. markets.
“This approval is a critical next step to achieving a historic and unique alliance between two low-cost carriers in the world’s most dynamic airline market,” said John Redmond, CEO of Allegiant. “Together, we will make it possible for more people to fly and enjoy the unique culture, traditions and scenic destinations both countries have to offer.”
The joint application requesting approval and antitrust immunity for the alliance is still pending approval by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Credit Suisse, one of the largest banks in Europe, is trying to recover from a string of scandals, including losing more than $5 billion from the collapse of investment firm Archegos last year, when it also had to suspend client funds linked to failed financier Greensill.
Earlier in the day, Reuters reported citing a source that Credit Suisse has approached at least one Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund for a capital injection, while some funds are looking at the scandal-hit Swiss bank’s businesses as potential investment opportunities. read more
Credit Suisse is also under investigation from the U.S. Justice Department on allegations that it continued helping U.S. clients hide assets from authorities, eight years after the Swiss bank paid a $2.6-billion tax evasion settlement, according to media reports.
Earlier in October, Switzerland’s second biggest bank, said it will buy back up to 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.01 billion) of debt, in an attempt to show its financial muscle when speculation about the bank’s future gathered pace on social media.

Eating Disorders In Colorado Teens Young Adults Rose During Pandemic Colorado Springs Gazette
Eating Disorders In Colorado Teens, Young Adults Rose During Pandemic – Colorado Springs Gazette https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/eating-disorders-in-colorado-teens-young-adults-rose-during-pandemic-colorado-springs-gazette/
As the pandemic enveloped the globe in 2020, Emma Warford used her newly acquired free time to laser in on a destructive hobby — scrutinizing her caloric intake.
Over the course of the next year that obsession, coupled with stressful activities, such as taking advanced placement and college classes, having a job and extracurricular hobbies, landed her in the pediatrician’s office. She was deemed severely underweight, diagnosed with anorexia and placed in outpatient treatment, where she saw a dietician and therapist weekly.
Several factors coalesced to create a perfect disordered eating storm.
“Being at home and also I am definitely a perfectionist,” said Warford, 17, who attends Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch. “I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) that contributes a little bit. I’ve never had coping skills. I was never taught how to prioritize mental health.”
Warford wasn’t the only one. The pandemic, with its double whammy of isolation and fear of getting sick, changed the way many people related to their bodies and contributed to a rise in eating disorders for kids and young adults. According to a recent study, in 2020 those disorders increased by 15.3% in children and adults 30 and younger. It’s a serious statistic about an issue more dangerous than many might believe.
Even if someone isn’t losing a massive amount of weight, the consequences can be harsh. Depriving the body of nutrition can cause a wealth of physical problems, such as impaired memory, the ability to learn and even death. Malnourishment can lead to increased rigid and obsessive thinking. And this, added to a potentially fraught time of life, when teens and younger people are already perseverating on their bodies and image, can be detrimental.
“People think we die more by depression,” said Jenna Glover, child psychologist and director of psychology training at Children’s Hospital Colorado, “but because of the complications that come with an eating disorder, like cardiac arrest, malnutrition and death by suicide, it’s a very serious disorder.”
About eight months into the pandemic 17-year-old Colorado Springs student Shelten stopped playing football due to fears of getting COVID-19. After he stepped away, his mind began to play tricks on him and lured him into a tricky relationship with food.
“I worried I wouldn’t stay fit physically and mentally,” he said. “I thought if I changed the way I ate it would do that, but it didn’t help. It made it worse. I just ate things that didn’t have a lot of calories or small portions.”
People restrict their eating for a few reasons, Glover said. In Western culture, with its emphasis on beauty ideals — muscular men and thin women — body image is a looming factor. Social media hasn’t necessarily made it worse, she said, but it has provided more opportunities for comparison.
An eating disorder also can grow out of trauma. Restricting what someone eats can give a sense of control or help change their body in such a way that others won’t be interested in it. There’s also orthorexia, an obsession with healthy living.
“We talk about being on the paleo diet,” Glover used as an example about the diet that promotes eating the same foods eaten by humans during the Paleolithic era. “We elevate what wellness looks like and take it to the extreme. It can become an obsession, when it’s not healthy anymore and it’s the extreme.”
After being diagnosed, Warford’s health continued to decline. After an EKG revealed her heart rate was plummeting last year, she was rushed to the hospital where she stayed for a few weeks until she got medically stable. She went home, but wound up requiring residential care. A facility in Washington took her in when the waiting list for such a place in Colorado was too long. Warford spent four months recovering before coming home and resuming her junior year.
“I’m doing well,” she said. “Physically I’m 100% better. There are still some mental aspects I’m working on because the physical comes first. I still see a therapist and dietitian occasionally. A lot of it I do by myself, navigating and trying new things, like being more comfortable around food and accepting myself as I come.”
After being admitted to the hospital on Christmas two years ago, Shelten, who also learned he had OCD after getting sick, spent the next five months in recovery, four of which were at an eating disorders center. After returning home in the summer of 2021, he’s faring well, spending time at football practice and working two jobs.
“I’m doing amazing,” he said. “I still have some problems with my emotions, but I’m getting helped by doctors. I have medicine to help with that.”
Warford and Shelten are lucky. In the majority of cases, it takes an average of seven years from when a child develops an eating disorder until they’re diagnosed, Glover said. It can live under the surface for a long time before anybody else notices.
The good news is recovery is possible. If it’s caught early in teens, they can be treated on an outpatient basis. Others, who have lived with disordered eating for a long time and are malnourished, might need intensive programming and possibly residential treatment.
“You can’t just refeed someone immediately. It will cause damage,” Glover said. “After a course of treatment it’s a lifelong maintenance of recovery for some, but they can recover and live their lives without an obsession of food and body image.”
While there might be a few kids who tell their parents they’re struggling with disordered eating, they’re the exception. Kids either refuse to believe they have an issue or they use it as a coping strategy, Glover said.
“It makes them feel better temporarily,” she said. “Or they know it’s a problem, but they don’t want anyone to take it away from them. They’re highly secretive about it — this is helping me and I don’t want to change it or I’m highly ashamed and I don’t want anyone to know.”
Signs to watch for include significant changes in eating habits; suddenly caring about calories; refusing certain foods or eating at a restaurant if they don’t know the calorie count; sudden interest in grocery store outings or what the family is eating; excessive amounts of time looking in the mirror or their phone; checking body parts, such as wrist size; negative comments about their body; over-exercising; and withdrawing from mealtimes or in general.
“One thing wouldn’t be concerning, but multiple things warrant a conversation with your child and pediatrician,” Glover said. “If a parent suspects or has a child who is diagnosed and suffering with an eating disorder, they should also get their own support. This is a chronic medical condition, the same as if a kid had cancer.”
Warford did try to tell her mom a few times something was wrong, but it took a while to register.
“I had no idea. An eating disorder is hard,” said Chris Hendrickson, Warford’s mother. “How can you not eat? … You want to say just eat, what’s the problem? But you’re not addressing what’s going on in their head. Something is going on that is so strong and turning off their eating cues.”
Though the increase in eating disorders is holding steady, doctors are still seeing more mental health problems in kids and young adults.
“They’ve lost time with friends and learning opportunities,” Glover said. “There’s more stress to get back into everyday life. If chronic stressors exist for a long time, it takes a long time for kids to get back to normal, even though their daily schedule looks like normal.”
She advises parents to develop healthy language and habits around food, such as talking about food in a nonjudgmental way.
So often in society foods are deemed good or bad, or people make comments like, “I was bad today so I can’t eat dinner tonight.”
“We don’t want to model that for our children,” she said. “Food is medicine for bodies and energy. There is no good or bad food. It’s just food. And don’t make negative comments about your body. Talk about your body in a way that is neutral and positive: I love my legs, they take me everywhere.”

Here’s how the Brown injury and Anderson acquisition impact Arizona’s pass game
Oct 17, 2022 at 1:36 pm ET • 3 min read
USATSI
Robbie Anderson’s time in Carolina was numbered as soon as he got sent to the locker room by interim coach Steve Wilks Sunday following a sideline argument, and it took less than 24 hours for the Panthers to find a new home for him. The Cardinals acquired the disgruntled receiver Monday, per reports, potentially as a replacement for the recently injured Marquise Brown.
Brown left Sunday’s game against the Seahawks after he got rolled up on after a jump ball in the fourth quarter, and he had his left foot in a boot after the game. We don’t know the extent of the injury as of Monday afternoon, but given that the Cardinals moved so quickly to acquire Anderson suggests that they are expecting Brown to miss some time. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported as much Monday afternoon:
That’s disappointing news for Brown, who has performed admirably in the unenviable task of trying to carry a passing game that has been among the NFL‘s least efficient this season. He had 485 yards and three touchdowns while catching 67.2% of his 64 targets through the first six games of the season and was just about to get some help with the return of DeAndre Hopkins from suspension this week — passes thrown to Cardinals not named “Marquise Brown” this season have averaged 5.53 yards per attempt.
The Cardinals rightly realize they still need some help in the passing game, then, regardless of Brown’s injury. That just makes it even more important. Despite ranking first in pass attempts, they are just 14th in passing yards after Week 6 — they rank dead last in yards per attempt at a paltry 5.8, while their 2.3% touchdown rate is better than only Anderson’s former Panthers and the Steelers. The return of Hopkins should help, but any extended absence for Brown would more or less leave them where they started.
That being said, it’s hard to get too excited about what this means for Anderson’s Fantasy value. The Cardinals face the Saints on Thursday night in Week 7, so it’ll be tough for Anderson to get acclimated to a new system in time to play. When he’s up to speed, Anderson is still a 29-year-old with a single 1,000-yard season to his name, and he has caught just 48.2% of the passes thrown his way for 5.3 yards per target since the start of last season.
This is to say, that while Anderson has some talent and a potential opportunity here, there probably isn’t much reason to put in a big claim for him on waivers in Week 7. If you’ve got a roster spot to play with and can put in, say, a 5% bid on him just to see if he can find a spark, go for it. But I’m expecting him to be a boom-or-bust WR3 in a best-case scenario, with Hopkins likely to be asked to take on a huge target share to lift this offense — and I do think Hopkins still has top-12 upside, for what it’s worth. Anderson gives Kyler Murray a deep threat that defenses have to take seriously, but he’s not as good an all-around receiver as Brown and likely isn’t a one-for-one replacement for him in either the Cardinals offense or your own Fantasy lineup.
And it probably doesn’t matter much for the Panthers offense, either. Not because there won’t be a few more targets to go around, but because that offense is such a disaster that a few more targets really don’t mean much. They had six straight three-and-outs in Week 7, with that snap only broken by a four-play drive where they picked up a first down on the first play before going three-and-out on the subsequent first down. Maybe D.J. Moore’s target share goes even higher, but with none of the Panthers quarterbacks inspiring much confidence, it’s impossible to suggest him as a start these days. I’m hanging on to Moore on my bench, but I need to see a lot from this offense before I can trust him at this point.

Facebook parent company Meta’s attempts to create a “metaverse” have floundered and failed to attract enough interest from users to succeed despite founder Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for the technology.
The Big Tech company’s main metaverse, Horizon Worlds, has reported a low user base and struggles to keep users coming back, according to the Wall Street Journal, which reported underwhelming new user numbers just a week after Meta Connect, at which the company hyped up the next version of its virtual reality headset and advocated a multiyear endeavor to build the future of the internet in the metaverse.
While the company initially proposed getting 500,000 monthly active users on its virtual reality platform Horizon Worlds by the end of 2022, the company revised the goal to just 280,000 MAUs, according to internal documents. There are only 200,000 MAUs as of October.
Only 9% of worlds created by creators have been visited by at least 50 people, according to internal data.
PARLER GAMES: KANYE WEST ENTERS AGREEMENT TO BUY SOCIAL MEDIA APP
The company has also struggled to maintain a user base around the main metaverse interface, the Meta Quest. While the Quest is considered one of the bestselling virtual reality headsets on the market, it does not maintain its product value for long with most users. More than half of Quest headsets are not in use six months after being purchased, according to people familiar with Meta’s internal data.
The Facebook parent says that the project is a multiyear endeavor and is improving it, but believes the presented vision is the future of computing.
Employees have also complained that the vision is unclear. Several have said that the company’s strategies related to the metaverse have regularly shifted and changed depending on Zuckerberg’s whims rather than a forward vision for the company, according to the New York Times. Other executives have clashed over the vision, with one senior leader stating that the amount of money invested into the company’s metaverse-related projects makes him “sick to the stomach.”
Meta announced the latest version of the Quest on Tuesday, including a display of its virtual reality avatars with legs. The legs were later revealed to be animated independently and would not reflect the product provided to users.

The company also has frozen hiring and rescinded several internship offers to cut costs. The company reported its first profit decline in its last quarterly report.

Jackson Roloff Shows Off His Genius With New Gadget – TV Shows Ace https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/jackson-roloff-shows-off-his-genius-with-new-gadget-tv-shows-ace/
Little People, Big World star Jackson Roloff is showing fans just how smart he is. The five-year-old boy is growing up quickly and learning a lot these days. Keep reading for all of the details about his new gadget.
If you follow Tori Roloff on social media, you might have seen her post videos of Jackson playing or learning at home. It looks like he enjoys hands-on activities. And because Tori was a kindergarten teacher before becoming a stay-at-home mom, she is often playing educational games with Jackson at home.
The five-year-old also started going to kindergarten this year. He turned five in May and began school in August. Even on the weekend, however, he’s putting his knowledge to good use.
Jackson Roloff shows fans how smart he is
On her Instagram Stories this weekend, Tori revealed that she got some quality time with her son, Jackson. As she recorded a video of him, he showed off his genius. In the videos, Jackson is sitting at the kitchen table. He’s using a kids’ writing tablet, which automatically erases with the touch of a button.
As the video begins, Tori encourages her son to write all of his numbers. He starts writing the numbers one through five and says them out loud as he does. When he gets to number four, he asks his mom which kind of four he should write. She instructs him to write it however he wants to.
In another short video, Jackson Roloff continues showing off his genius. He ended up writing all of the numbers up through 14. Then, he starts writing on the tablet once again.
Tori wrote to fans, “I love that these are a perfect way to get my kids away from screen time!” It looks like Jackson is a big fan of it too.
She also shared the link to the product so fans could buy it for their own kids. It’s possible that Tori earns a commission for the products sold because she promoted it on her Instagram Stories with Jackson’s help. Maybe his genius is a good strategy to help sell the writing tablet.
So, can you believe how smart Jackson Roloff is? What do you think of his cool gadget? Sound off in the comments section below, and come back to TV Shows Ace for more LPBW news. Plus, don’t miss Jackson and the rest of the family on Little People, Big World Season 24, which premieres on TLC on Tuesday, November 1.

Why Are So Many Crypto Execs Leaving? – CoinDesk https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/why-are-so-many-crypto-execs-leaving-coindesk/

Management shake-ups are hitting crypto in what some are calling crypto’s “great resignation.”
On Monday it was announced Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss – twin of Tyler – is stepping back as a director of Gemini Europe. The news, announced in a U.K. regulatory filing, comes as the wholly owned Gemini subsidiary maps out its expansion into known tax haven Ireland.
This article is excerpted from The Node, CoinDesk’s daily roundup of the most pivotal stories in blockchain and crypto news. You can subscribe to get the full newsletter here.
No formal reason was given for Winklevoss’ move, but it comes amid a wave of C-Suite shuffling across the digital asset industry. Growing regulatory challenges as well as a multi-month long market rout have led to a number of resignations.
Among the most notable departures or downsizings, for very different reasons, are Genesis CEO Michael Moro, MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor, Kraken CEO Jesse Powell, all announced in recent weeks. Alameda Research co-CEO Sam Trabucco also stepped down, as did FTX.US President Brett Harrison.
Then there’s Celsius’ Alex Mashinsky and Daniel Leon, who served as the now-bankrupt crypto neobank’s chief executive and chief strategy officer, respectively. The crypto lender is going through a difficult Chapter 11 restructuring, and it seems likely that Mashinsky could face lawsuits.
The reasons for these exoduses vary on a case by case basis. In many instances it seems like individual attempts to save face after making bad business decisions, or a result of pressure from a company’s board or owners.
Moro threw in the towel, for instance, after Genesis got in bed with the overzealous and potentially criminal hedge fund Three Arrows Capital, which apparently lost the institutional-facing lending firm Genesis a whopping $1.2 billion. Genesis, like CoinDesk, is owned by Digital Currency Group.
Michael Saylor, the long-time CEO of business intelligence company MicroStrategy, directed the firm’s first bitcoin purchase in 2020 and essentially transformed the firm into a BTC investment trust.
MicroStrategy’s BTC buys seemed prescient in 2020, ahead of the bull run – and was even said to catalyze other corporate entities into holding bitcoin “on the balance sheet” as a hedge against inflation – but are now deeply in the red. Saylor kept buying, even as the market turned against him, while most other publicly listed firms have not. He remains at MicroStrategy as executive chairman.
Kraken’s Powell founded the exchange in 2011 and has long been known as one of crypto’s most ideologically driven executives. This year, the libertarian-leaning former CEO was accused of fostering a toxic workplace culture after making offhand remarks and setting “anti-Woke” policies.
Powell, like Saylor, said he’s stepping down as CEO to continue focusing on crypto advocacy. In some cases, these shifts work out. David Marcus, who oversaw the Libra project at Facebook, before both were renamed, has emerged as a thoughtful industry commentator and CEO of Bitcoin Lightning-focused Lightspark.
Like the broader tech industry, several crypto firms have put hiring-freezes in place and started rounds of layoffs. Bear markets, where the goal is to merely survive as users and capital flood out, require an entirely different set of managerial skills than bull markets, where growth and market dominance seem to be all that matters.
The tricky thing with crypto, however, is that management can be hard to hire. Many companies, particularly Coinbase, have relied on hiring from within due to the complexities of the industry. Decent managers need to have an understanding of crypto’s technicalities as well as the gumption to lead in such a volatile market.

U.S. Agency Panel To Review VLSI Patent In $2.2 Bln Intel Case Reuters
U.S. Agency Panel To Review VLSI Patent In $2.2 Bln Intel Case – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-agency-panel-to-review-vlsi-patent-in-2-2-bln-intel-case-reuters/
(Reuters) – A U.S. Patent and Trademark Office tribunal has agreed to review the validity of one of the patents behind Intel Corp’s $2.18 billion trial loss to VLSI Technology LLC, opening a potential pathway for the chipmaker to overturn part of the verdict.
USPTO director Kathi Vidal earlier this month sanctioned the company that sought the review, OpenSky Industries LLC, finding it attempted to extort both Intel and VLSI. But OpenSky’s petition was strong enough to justify Patent Trial and Appeal Board review regardless of its alleged misconduct, a three-judge PTAB panel said Friday.
Representatives for Intel, VLSI, and the PTO did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday.
Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com
VLSI said in a previous statement that allowing the proceeding to continue would wrongly reward Intel, which had already lost on other board challenges to the patents.
OpenSky could not be reached for comment. Andrew Oliver of Amin Turocy & Watson, who represented the company before the board but said he did not handle the problematic settlement negotiations cited by Vidal, praised the decision.
A jury in Waco, Texas last year awarded VLSI nearly $2.2 billion from Intel, finding the company infringed two VLSI patents. The Waco jury awarded VLSI $675 million in damages for the patent at issue in the OpenSky proceeding.
Vidal announced in June that she would review board decisions to hear validity challenges to both VLSI patents from OpenSky and another company, Patent Quality Assurance LLC.
Both companies were formed after the verdict and have no apparent connection to Intel. Vidal’s review of the PQA case is still in progress.
Vidal said in an Oct. 4 order that Nevada-based OpenSky had offered to sabotage its own case if VLSI paid it off, and separately requested payment from Intel in exchange for winning.
The director banned OpenSky from participating in the proceeding. But Vidal also said the PTAB case should continue with Intel at the helm if the petition “presents a compelling, meritorious challenge.”
The board found Friday that the petition met this heightened standard. The PTAB judges said it was “highly likely” that challenged parts of the patent were invalid based on earlier patents and applications cited by OpenSky that supposedly disclosed the same innovations.
A successful challenge could eventually knock out the damages award for the parts of the patent declared invalid. VLSI can appeal an invalidity decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
The case is OpenSky Industries LLC v. VLSI Technology LLC, Patent Trial and Appeal Board, IPR2021-01064.

For Intel: Benjamin Fernandez, David Cavanaugh and Steven Horn of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr

Syscom previously acquired Michigan Computer Solutions in November 2020.
Syscom Acquires Lehigh Valley Technology Company: Leadership Insight

Scott Huxley, managing principal, Syscom, commented:
“Combining Lehigh Valley Technology Company’s 17-years with Syscom’s 44-years in the IT space will provide all our clients with the technology depth and breadth needed for continued long-term success in a rapidly changing business market. We have developed a mature managed services model and structured IT support program that delivers consistent, predictable results to our clients. With this acquisition, we want everyone to know we are focused on our customers’ success and continued innovation.
“Looking at IT from a business standpoint is at the root of all that we do and how we serve our customers – which is exactly how LVTC provides services. The acquisition made sense right from the start seeing how our cultures and delivery of services aligned.”
Scott Gingold, former president of LVTC, said:
“Though I had many suitors interested in purchasing Lehigh Valley Technology Company, the decision to be acquired by Syscom was easy. Syscom shares the same values regarding staff, customers, and culture. Under Scott and Brandon Clous’s leadership, they will take Lehigh Valley Technology Company (LVTC) to a new level of technology and customer satisfaction that will serve employees and customers beyond what I might have otherwise achieved.”
Brandon Clous, CEO, Syscom, added:
“The integration of both companies will take place over the coming months but most importantly all of our clients will continue to receive the same high-quality services and solutions they have come to expect.”

Razer
After trying for years with gaming phones, the next big product category hardware manufacturers are trying to make happen is apparently “Android gaming tablets.” You basically throw a Nintendo Switch into a photocopier, load Android on it, and hope users will be content picking through Android games and the growing (shrinking?) collection of cloud gaming services out there. Logitech kicked things off with the G Cloud Gaming Handheld last month, and now Razer is throwing its hat into the ring with a new Razer Edge handheld. This was teased last month and got a full unveiling over the weekend, and there are actually some interesting specs to go over.
First off, a major differentiator for Razer over the Logitech handheld is that the Razer has active cooling. Razer neglected to show any internal pictures, but the 10-mm-thick body and six vents on the back make it look like there’s some decent heat dissipation going on. Even if Razer slapped a normal phone chip inside, a fan would probably make it outperform any phone, thanks to not having to instantly throttle. Razer and Qualcomm say this is the first-ever device with a “Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform” SoC, but that seems to just be marketing fluff rather than any new technical development.
Enlarge / The back, featuring a lot of cooling vents and shoulder buttons.
Razer
Qualcomm’s page on the new G3x Gen 1 doesn’t provide any technical details, a major red flag that suggests there’s nothing here worth bragging about. Razer only says the chip runs at 3 GHz. Unofficially, we can pick through the Geekbench listings for some details. The chip codename “Lahaina” means this should be a rebranded Snapdragon 888 SoC, Qualcomm’s flagship smartphone SoC from 2020. That would make it a 5 nm chip with one 3 GHz Cortex X1 core, three 2.42 GHz Cortex A78 cores, and four 1.8 GHz Cortex A55 cores. Those frequencies are all reported from Geekbench, and they’re all normal compared to the phone version, meaning this chip didn’t even get a frequency bump. Again, though, the phone chips throttle extremely quickly, so the fan should give this product decent sustained gaming performance not found on a phone. It seems like Qualcomm just didn’t want to admit it’s shipping a 2-year-old chip in this device.
The 2-year old chip will help get the price down from the usual $1000 Android phone, but all of these gaming tablets are going to have a tough time competing with the Nintendo Switch at $299 (and $199 for the Lite version). Other specs include a 6.8-inch, 2400×1080 OLED display at a whopping 144 Hz, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5000 mAh battery. There’s a MicroSD slot, 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB-C port, 5 MP front camera (no rear camera, it’s a tablet), and Wi-Fi 6E compatibility. The $400 version is Wi-Fi only, and a second SKU, the Verizon-exclusive “Razer Edge 5G,” promises Sub 6 GHz and mmWave connectivity for an undisclosed price. This is partly pitched as a portable cloud-gaming device, so cellular access would let you play it away from home, though it will incur a very large data bill.
The bundled Razer Kishi V2 Pro is just an aftermarket smartphone controller. No need to reinvent the wheel, I guess.
Razer
The tablet, sans controller.
Razer
The bottom of the Kishi “Pro” features a headphone jack.
Razer
One last look at the tablet.
Razer
Unlike the Logitech tablet, the controllers are not permanently attached on the Razer Edge. Razer actually just built a normal tablet and threw a clamp-on gamepad into the box, the “Razer Kishi V2 Pro.” You get two analog sticks, ABXY face buttons, and six (!) shoulder buttons: digital L1/R1, analog L2/R2 triggers, and unique “M1/M2” buttons, which are small little nubbins next to the L2 trigger.
The Razer Kishi V2—the non-Pro version—is already a standalone product. Ars Tech Culture Editor Sam Machkovech reviewed it earlier this year and seemed to like the controller hardware, while dinging the device for janky configuration software that didn’t allow for button reprogramming. The Pro version fixes one of Sam’s complaints—the lack of a headphone jack—and adds “Razer HyperSense haptics” for audio-powered rumble. The “Razer Nexus” controller software, with a rough 2.6-star rating on the Play Store, still seems bad.
We doubt it’s a coincidence that Razer and Logitech landed on the same product idea a month apart. The Wormtongue for both companies is probably Qualcomm, with reports last year indicating the chip company was experimenting with Nintendo Switch-like Android devices, including showing off a “Gaming Reference Device” to a few partners. It seems like some OEMs took Qualcomm up on the offer and decided to commercialize the product idea. With Qualcomm’s huge base of partners, don’t be surprised if more of these devices show up. The Razer Edge ships Q1 2023.
Skilled Trades Centers | Contractor – Contractor Magazine https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/skilled-trades-centers-contractor-contractor-magazine/
If you read this column regularly, you know that one of the repeating topics is our manpower issue, apprenticeships and getting new blood into the trades. About two years ago one of my readers, Dr. Douglas Greene, contacted me regarding a program he was developing that he called “New Collar Jobs.”
Unlike most of us (yours truly included) in the trades who wring our hands and decry the woeful state of the manpower/apprenticeship issues, and do nothing but complain about it, Douglas Greene is actually putting his time, effort and money where his mouth is and is getting things done.
Dr. Greene had a personal mission (as well as the ability, drive, and dedication) to promote Skilled Trades Center facilities and apprenticeship programs, at the high school and junior/community college level, to attract young people into trade careers. He took his idea for “Skilled Trades Centers” to the educators in his area (Washington State) and was, for the most part, did not receive much traction. He did not waiver. He kept on with his plan, knocking on doors, talking to community and college leaders, and generally making a nuisance of himself (to the education establishment at least) at every opportunity.
Corresponding with Dr. Greene over the past two years, and his efforts at getting the education establishment on board with skilled trades centers and apprenticeships, has been an interesting look into how, and why, the current mind set regarding the trades has evolved.
This is an excerpt from our correspondence highlighting the problem Douglas has had getting “educators” to take his program seriously:
I presented a collaboration proposal; to share the training and facility equipment between the local Clark Community College and the Hudson’s Bay High School (across the street from each other), to build a skilled trades center, offering up to $500,000 in matching funds. The new college president said that trades are seasonal and do not provide long term job opportunities and rejected the proposal. Even the matching grant proposal idea did not get much attention at the college.
It doesn’t take much imagination to see the uphill struggle he has been waging. Even to the point of offering 2 to 1 matching funds (donating $1 for every $2 of state funding)! Here is part of his proposal for Skilled Trade Centers (STC):
“14. COMMUNITY & BUILDING INDUSTRY SUPPORT
The college will need to develop a public relations outreach program discussing the need for additional courses of study that would be needed to support an STC. The STC needs not only to gain local supporters of the college but also, the building industry needs to understand that the mission of the STC is to promote more JOB READY opportunities for students in the building industry, to fill the ever-growing shortage of skilled trades craftsman in the area.
Collaboration with trade associations and trade unions would be a place to start, soliciting their input into how the STC facilities would be constructed as well and how it is equipped with the tools that are normally found on a job site.
Within the trade associations, one would think that builders and developers would be enthusiastic about volunteering their help as well as supporting the STC facility through their associations. Below are listed three associations in just the Vancouver area alone, and I’m sure there are some that can be reached across the river to Portland, as well as looking north of Vancouver to some of the faster-growing communities in Clark County.”
Dr. Greene has championed his idea across every level of the education system in his state since he first published his idea (his 30 page proposal and synopsis can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/STC3-0G–2021 ) and has begun to make a little forward progress.
Upon hearing of Dr. Greene’s vision on promoting skilled trades, he was invited to present his ideas to the Evergreen High School District in Vancouver, Washington. He proposed a modest 3,200 square foot building, including his offer of matching funds as described previously. The educators he spoke to suddenly, if belatedly, saw the potential of his plan and opted to fund a 7,500 square foot building instead, agreeing to cover the additional costs for the larger facility with bond funding!
With up to 40% of graduating high school students not going on to higher education venues, what better family-wage earning opportunity could be offered than learning a trade? Talk about progress!
The upshot of Douglas’ efforts is that, at least in Washington State, the education establishment has seen the light about the trades, apprenticeships, and a trade education. It’s only been staring us in the face for almost two decades, but a win is a win, no matter how late in coming.
It has taken Dr. Greene less than a year just to get the Evergreen School District to move on his proposal, and construction of the new STC facility on the Evergreen campus is under roof with a planned opening in January/February 2023. Here is a time lapse video of the construction of the new STC:
https://app.truelook.cloud/video?code=7ouxvthpsw0qwqh0aclbnpidq
It also may have helped that more and more celebrities are recognizing that someone needs to do the “heavy lifting” as regards construction careers and have been using their notoriety and media platforms in saying so, loudly and clearly.
On October 4, 2022, Harbor Freight and their Tools for Schools foundation awarded William Culver a $100,000 grant for the Evergreen High School to support skilled trades training. It is one of only five such awards given, nationwide, to an individual/high school. William is the geometry and math teacher, with over 40 years of teaching experience at Evergreen, who applied for the grant. It speaks to his commitment and dedication to the trades that Bill endorsed his 50% portion of the grant award to the STC project. That means 100% of the $100,000 grant going to support the new STC when it opens in 2023.
Douglas recently sent me the following link to a short video regarding apprenticeships:
https://youtube.com/watch? v=gOGo_97KNl4&feature=share&utm_source=EKLEiJECCKjOmKnC5IiRIQ
The first comment, listed below the video, is by an 18-year-old. It is quite telling, and should be viewed by everyone who calls themselves an educator.
So, kudos to Dr. Douglas Greene for all of his efforts on behalf of the skilled trades. Your efforts have quite possibly broken the logjam we have been experiencing between the education establishment and the real word issues the trades face. Good on ya, Douglas!

The 2,600-square-foot restaurant, which has seating for 26 people outside and another 18 outside, is located at 191 Seventh St.
To celebrate its opening, Sweetgreen will donate a meal to Island Harvest for every meal sold on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The chain offers a menu focused on salads and bowls and currently features a fall menu, including a Curry Cauliflower Bowl and Buffalo Cauliflower side dish with regionally sourced cauliflower from upstate New York’s Turek Farm.
Publicly traded Sweetgreen was founded in 2007 when it opened its first restaurant in Washington D.C. and now has more than 160 locations. On Long Island, Sweetgreen has signed leases for restaurants in Woodbury and Manhasset and is working on several other locations in the area.

ChristianaCares Cancer Program Wins Innovation Honors HealthLeaders Media
ChristianaCare’s Cancer Program Wins Innovation Honors – HealthLeaders Media https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/christianacares-cancer-program-wins-innovation-honors-healthleaders-media/
The Delaware-based health system’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute has received an award from the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) for a program that integrates cancer care with primary care.
ChristianaCare’s cancer care program has earned national recognition for a unique program that integrates primary and cancer care.
The Delaware-based health system’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute has won the Association of Community Cancer Centers’ (ACCC) 2022 Innovator Award for the program, which builds on the institute’s Oncology Express Unit, which offers urgent care services to cancer patients in need of emergency services during treatment.
It also addresses a gap in cancer care management spotted by the health system.
“We conducted an informal survey that found as many as 15% of our patients did not have their own primary care provider,” Cancer Program Clinical Director Cindy Waddington, MSN, RN, AOCN, said in a press release, which includes a link to a recent podcast on the program. “Having a primary care provider onsite working closely with the entire cancer care team helps ensure that essential patient care beyond cancer treatment is not delayed.”
The health system pointed out that patients undergoing cancer treatment are often dealing with other health concerns, especially chronic issues like diabetes, heart problems, COPD, and high blood pressure, and that cancer treatment can exacerbate those issues. To facilitate comprehensive care, the program enables oncologists to refer their patients to primary care services for any non-cancer concerns.
“Primary care in oncology has been a long-standing challenge for cancer patients and cancer programs,” Family Nurse Practitioner Debra Delaney, RN, MSN, ACNS-BC, FNP-BC, who provides primary care services at the Graham Cancer Center, said in the press release. “Thankfully, we’ve been able to solve that challenge by addressing the whole person and promoting healthy living for the long-term.”
As part of the process, Delaney helps patients who finish their cancer treatments transition to a primary care provider for ongoing care management.
“Earning the prestigious ACCC Innovator Award for our primary care practice is an accomplishment that belongs to our entire cancer care team, which has worked long and hard to develop this unique program designed to improve our patients’ long-term health,” Nicholas Petrelli, MD, the Bank of America endowed medical director of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute, said in the press release.

OBSERVER Photo by M.J. Stafford Fredonia Fire Department firefighters look over the aftermath of a fire on Westerly Drive Monday morning.
The Fredonia Fire Department didn’t have far to go when it got a call for help at 11:27 a.m. Monday.
A fire charred the exterior of a home’s garage on Westerly Drive, and the firefighters made a very quick stop — in part because they were already nearby at Wheelock Elementary School, talking about fire prevention with the kids.
“We were very close. It was an exterior fire on the house, unknown cause right now,” Fredonia Fire Chief Joshua Myers said at the scene. “With the quick reaction of the fire department, we were able to contain it to the outside, with minimal damage to the structure. I call it a success.”
There were no injuries, Myers added.
“The homeowner was home so they were able to alert us rather quickly,” he said.
Firefighters were already located a few hundred yards away, offering a presentation to Fredonia schoolchildren in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week.
“They were actually still doing it when this call came out. They had to tell the kids ‘See you later,’ they left and came here,” Myers said.

EXCLUSIVE Short-Video Company Triller Launches Metaverse Platform Reuters
EXCLUSIVE Short-Video Company Triller Launches Metaverse Platform – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/exclusive-short-video-company-triller-launches-metaverse-platform-reuters/
Oct 17 (Reuters) – Short-video platform Triller Inc is the latest company to stake its claim in the metaverse with the launch Monday of a new platform called Metaverz.
Triller said its Metaverz provides virtual spaces where users can gather to watch live music and sporting events, such as Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship or the Triller Fight Club, and interact with artists and other fans.
Its first event takes place on Oct. 22 with DJ Sam Feldt performing an electronic set from the Netherlands, then dropping into Metaverz’s virtual nightclub as an avatar to mingle with guests. The virtual performance is one of 2,000 events Triller and its subsidiaries plan to host in the next year, a majority of which will happen in the real world and in Metaverz.

“We’re carefully curating all our events and experiences so people understand what they’re doing,” Christopher Taurosa, head of Metaverz. “It’s not like you walk around aimlessly … You get to engage around an event.”
Triller’s Metaverz will compete with deeper-resourced rivals like Meta Platforms Inc (META.O), which has spent billions of dollars to create an immersive digital environment where people would socialize, play games and work. Its flagship game, Horizon Worlds, has struggled to gain a firm footing, attracting just 200,000 users, according to documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal.
In a preview, Triller showed off virtual environments the company spent the last two-plus years building, including a sports arena, beach houses surrounded by rippling water and palm trees and a nightclub with projection screens, laser lights and marble floors. Clusters of seating areas provide places for users to talk with one another, either as avatars or via livestreamed video that appears in a dialogue box on the screen.
The Metaverz is accessible via any internet-connected device, through a browser.
The company is working with Epik to create games within its Metaverz. Players can earn digital currency, dubbed Illr Bucks, that can used to buy virtual apparel, customize their avatars, or purchase tickets to events hosted by Triller or its creators.
The Triller video sharing app launched in its current form in October 2019, and has looked to take on larger rival TikTok. The company added fresh content and features to the platform with the acquisitions of live-streaming music platform Verzuz, founded by Grammy-winning producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, combat sports brands Bare Knuckle Fighting and Fite.tv, and Fangage, Julius and Amplify.ai, whose technologies help creators connect with and monetize their fan base.
Triller recently raised $310 million from Global Emerging Markets, a Luxembourg-based private investment group, in anticipation of going public as soon as next month.
Triller CEO Mahi de Silva said the company is losing money, but expects to cross into profitability by 2023.
It has run afoul of one of the world’s largest music companies, Sony Music Entertainment, which filed a lawsuit against Triller in August in federal district court in New York, seeking millions of dollars in damages after the video-sharing app allegedly stopped paying licensing fees in March 22. De Silva described the lawsuit as a tactic in license negotiations.
The Washington Post also reported this summer that Black influencers, who had been recruited to the platform a year ago with promises of $4,000 per month, say those payments have been erratic — and in some cases, nonexistent.
“We did have a few hiccups in the beginning of the year,” de Silva said. “But we are 100% up to date.”

Amo Your Awesome With Oppo New Feature Of No Shake Camera – The Tech Outlook https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/amo-your-awesome-with-oppo-new-feature-of-no-shake-camera-the-tech-outlook/
Samsung’s Galaxy phone has been a huge success in the premium phone class. Samsung has the well-taken advantage of it by coming up with new models again and again for a long time. Now the premium Galaxy A series has come up with something super exciting. We would be mainly talking about the feature around the camera because that’s the main content that we would be serving in it.
Oppo camera that has never disappointed us bags something interesting and the very first thing is its no shake feature. The shake feature lets you record and capture the video without any blur. If you have been to a function or a party and have asked someone else to take your group photo it might have disappointed you because of the blurry image.
Oppo’s new camera lens moves in the opposite direction as soon as you move it. This causes the lens to be in the same place and take blur-free images and videos. But what about the unwanted person in the picture? You can’t do anything about it but now you can with a new feature of Oppo that lets you remove unwanted guests in photos. This is not the end because you can also follow the water and blowing sand because even that won’t let you down while taking some awesome shots.
Bitcoin Price Prediction Is BTC About To Breakout Above $20000 Cryptonews
Bitcoin Price Prediction – Is BTC About To Breakout Above $20,000 – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/bitcoin-price-prediction-is-btc-about-to-breakout-above-20000-cryptonews/
Bitcoin has consolidated around the $18,000 price level since June 2022. Today, it reached above $19,500, making some investors excited at the prospect of it breaking out above $20,000.
After setting its all-time high (ATH) of $69,000 in November 2021 and then losing 73% of its value, Bitcoin has found strong support at the $18,000 price level. It has retested its previous ATH set in 2018 and needs to hold that level if we hope to see higher lows form.
Even if Bitcoin breaks above $20,000, it doesn’t mean that we can expect it to keep that momentum and go into a short-term bull run, never mind setting a new ATH.
Bitcoin Price Chart via TradingView
After crashing to $17,000 in June 2022, Bitcoin proved it’s one of the best crypto to buy during the dip as it recovered to $24,000. Although it made a slight recovery, Bitcoin proved that it’s in a range after quickly retracing to the $18,000 level. It’s currently at the bottom of the range, and its slight spike could mean that it’s headed to the top of the range.
Bitcoin’s Potential
Whether Bitcoin can set a new ATH in the next two years is debatable, but its probable saving grace can be traced back to its 2017 bull run. When Bitcoin topped out at just over $19,000 in December 2017, something interesting happened before Bitcoin entered its multi-year bear market.
Bitcoin Price Chart History
After setting its then ATH, Bitcoin dropped to $12,000, then had a short-term rally to Fibonacci 0.702 retracement level before continuing the downtrend. Seldom do assets go straight up or down. They have pullbacks along the way.
And what are we missing from Bitcoin’s latest crash?
Bitcoin hasn’t done a short-term rally since its massive crash throughout the first half of 2022. Even if crypto bears argue that Bitcoin will make lower lows, it should do a short-term rally before entering a bear market if history replays itself.
If Bitcoin’s $18,000 price level is the lowest it will fall in the short term, a rally to the 0.702 Fibonacci retracement means a spike to $53,000. Bitcoin may consolidate for some time before the expected short-term rally.

Crypto Exchange FTX US Under Investigation By Texas Regulator Over Securities Allegations CoinDesk
Crypto Exchange FTX US Under Investigation By Texas Regulator Over Securities Allegations – CoinDesk https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/crypto-exchange-ftx-us-under-investigation-by-texas-regulator-over-securities-allegations-coindesk/
Nikhilesh De is CoinDesk’s managing editor for global policy and regulation. He owns marginal amounts of bitcoin and ether.
The Texas State Securities Board is investigating FTX US over allegations it offers unregistered securities products through its yield-bearing service, according to a recent court filing.
TSSB Director of Enforcement Joseph Rotunda alleged in a filing to the bankruptcy court overseeing the potential sale of Voyager Digital’s assets to FTX that the crypto exchange may be violating state law governing the registration and sale of securities products, saying FTX US is currently offering a yield-bearing product to U.S. customers. The filing was added to the court docket on Friday, and was submitted ahead of a hearing to finalize the potential sale of Voyager’s assets to FTX.
Barrons first reported the filing.
“As more fully explained throughout this declaration, I am aware that FTX Trading, along with West Realm Shires Services Inc. dba FTX US (‘FTX US’), may be offering unregistered securities in the form of yield-bearing accounts to residents of the United States. These products appear similar to the yield-bearing depository accounts offered by Voyager Digital LTD et al., and the Enforcement Division is now investigating FTX Trading, FTX US, and their principals, including Sam Bankman-Fried,” Rotunda wrote.
He went on to explain that he downloaded the FTX app to his phone, created an account and transferred money through a bank transaction and an Ethereum transaction to that new account. Moreover, the app said he was eligible for a yield-bearing account, despite the company’s terms and conditions saying FTX will not provide services to U.S. residents.
FTX yield accounts can earn up to 8% APY on the first $10,000 submitted.
“Despite the fact I identified myself by name and address, the FTX Trading App now shows that I am earning yield on the ETH. The yield is valued at 8 percent APR,” he wrote.
This “appears to be an investment contract,” which in turn would be regulated as a security in Texas, he wrote. FTX US has not registered its yield program within the state.
In a statement, an FTX spokesperson said the company had been “in talks” with the TSSB already.
“We have an active application for a license which has been pending, and believe we are operating fully within the bounds of what we can do in the interim. We look forward to continue working with Texas. In parallel, we are working exceptionally hard to ensure Voyager customers get to the best possible outcome – which we believe will happen if our bid to give assets back to users is approved by the Voyager bankruptcy court. We remain hopeful that all state regulators are working towards this same goal of getting assets back to users,” the spokesperson said.

Secretlab’s House Of The Dragon Gaming Chair Is Fit For A King – Winter Is Coming https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/secretlabs-house-of-the-dragon-gaming-chair-is-fit-for-a-king-winter-is-coming/
Every king or queen must have a throne, Targaryen kings and queens most of all. Secretlab has yet to make a mobile Iron Throne, but they do make high-quality chairs, including one themed after the Targaryen rulers of yore, which is almost as good.
I’m talking about the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 Series House of the Dragon gaming chair, or the Secretlab House of the Dragon gaming chair for short. (Targaryens and their long titles, amirite?) This lovely seat is on sale now, and Secret Lab was kind of enough to send one to us for review!
Secretlab House of the Dragon gaming chair review
The first thing I liked about the chair was that I could put it together. I am not dextrous, so if I can follow the instructions and assemble this thing, anyone can.
As for the chair itself, it is comfortable, practical, and beautiful, sure to let everyone you know that you are prepared to tackle the day’s tasks with fire and blood, whether they involve ruling a kingdom, gaming for hours on end, or putting together spreadsheets at work.
Here’s a glossy image of what a completed House of the Dragon gaming chair looks like when backlit by the smoldering remains of your enemies, lately set aflame by dragonfire:
And here’s what it looks like after I put it together at the WinterIsComing headquarters in Chicago, IL:
Equally impressive!
The chair is comfy, with good back support, solid armrests and a cushy pillow to rest the back of your weary head on should you use; it’s detachable. It’s also easy to adjust the height and the angle of the back with a simple flick of a lever.
If you’re interested, you can check out more of Secretlab’s House of the Dragon gaming chair here. And we’ll be giving one of these away soon to a lucky winner, so watch this space!

How To Prevent Burnout Through Vacation Policies At Your Business – Business Insider https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/how-to-prevent-burnout-through-vacation-policies-at-your-business-business-insider/
Unlimited vacation policies aren’t always the solution to get employees to take time off.
Without guidelines, employees might not know how much time to request.
Founders, executives, and consultants shared tips for encouraging employees to request time off.

Unlimited vacation policies have become more common in the workplace, but some consultants and executives say that’s not necessarily a good thing.
Sophie Theen, a human-resources consultant, told Insider that a lack of parameters can become a problem for companies when employees don’t know what’s acceptable or expected of them.
“It becomes unmanageable because it is unlimited without so much of a guardrail,” she said. “That means people effectively are not taking holidays at all because you’re constantly needing to work.”
But founders and executives told Insider that company leaders can ensure their employees take the time they need by setting expectations, building trust, and leading by example.
Demystify unlimited time off and establish trust
The founders and executives said that when establishing a vacation policy, leaders should remember the company’s values.
Gilles Raymond, founder and CEO of Letsmeet, a tech startup with seven employees, said that he prioritizes his company’s value of transparency and commitment in every decision he makes.
“The value is not about what you display on the board in front of the coffee machine or at the entrance,” he said. “You have to show it on a daily basis in the way you manage.”
Companies with an unlimited vacation policy should also have guidelines to help employees use it effectively. Amy Zimmerman, chief people officer at Relay Payments, a logistics fintech company with 150 employees, said “it becomes a little murky when you do unlimited” and people aren’t sure what that means or how much is too much.
She suggested managers make it clear to employees that they trust them to make decisions. “People feel uneasy when they’re uncertain,” she said. “Use those words: ‘I trust you. I trust that you’re going to get your job done.'”
Raymond said that as long as his employees are effective, he doesn’t care what time they come to work or when they leave, nor do they owe him explanations. He added that when he trusts his team members, they don’t need to justify themselves.
“They will give you back the trust you give to them,” he said.
When founders take time off, employees follow suit
When leaders take time off — and actually disconnect from work — they set an example for their employees. “They pay closer attention to what their manager does and potentially what other team members do,” Zimmerman said.
She suggested managers disconnect from work — by deleting email and messaging apps or pausing notifications — to show employees they aren’t expected to work on vacation.
“When you’re on vacation, actually be on vacation,” she said. “Don’t continue to stay connected with people and give new assignments, because people are paying attention.”
Sam Eitzen, the cofounder and CEO of Snapbar, a photo-booth company, took six weeks off this summer to travel. “One of my biggest passions in life is traveling with my wife and my three kids,” he said. “So I prioritize that probably just as much as I prioritize work.”
Snapbar’s paid time off is based on tenure, and Eitzen said his employees average four to five weeks off per year. They also get three or four “big-picture days” throughout the year to take breaks and reset.
Eitzen said that since Snapbar has a small team of 12, it’s crucial to document everything and have contingency plans in place so employees can feel confident about taking time off, knowing that if something goes wrong it’ll be taken care of.
“I never work on vacation time and we never have,” he said. “People are signed off, and they mute all notifications.”
If you’ve noticed some employees haven’t taken too much time off, Zimmerman suggested having a conversation to ask what might be discouraging them from taking vacations. Remind them throughout the year to submit requests, then offer ways to cover their workload while they’re absent.

There has been a goal scored within the first 33 minutes of Roma’s last 11 Italian Serie A road matches, a trend that will be put to the test when the club faces Sampdoria on Monday on Paramount+. Roma has won consecutive Serie A matches after losing two league matches in September. Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic will face a tough task in his second match as the newly appointed manager, as Roma have only lost once in their last eight matches against Sampdoria, winning five of those contests. You can see what happens when you stream the match now on Paramount+.
Kickoff from Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy is set for 12:30 p.m. ET. The latest Roma vs. Sampdoria odds list Roma as the -140 favorites (risk $140 to win $100) on the 90-minute money line, with Sampdoria as the +430 underdogs. A draw is priced at +275 and the over/under for total goals scored is 2.5. Monday’s match will be streamed live on Paramount+ with their must-have Premium plan.

Italian Serie A picks for Roma vs. Sampdoria
Before you tune in to Monday’s match, you need to see the Italian Serie A picks from soccer insider Brandt Sutton. Sutton, a former collegiate soccer player, has been SportsLine’s top soccer editor for more than five years. He has followed soccer closely for much longer and factors in managerial tactics, projected lineups and past performances to make the most-informed decisions possible, keeping his finger on the pulse of the game all over the globe. Sutton also has been on a roll with his best bets, going 132-102-1 on his soccer picks this year, returning more than $1,700 for $100 bettors.
For Sampdoria vs. Roma, Sutton is picking Roma to win on the money line at -140 odds. Sampdoria are at the bottom of the Italian Serie A table for a reason, as they have failed to win a match in league play this season. Roma have won three of the last five fixtures between these teams and have only lost once in their last eight head-to-head meetings. Sampdoria have struggled to find the back of the net, getting shut out in three of their last five games at home during league play.
The club is having to adjust to a manager as well, giving Roma another advantage in Monday’s contest. The Blucerchiati have failed to pick up a win in their first nine matches of the season for the first time since 1972-73, making them a team to avoid right now. Roma, meanwhile, have been able to get back on track after a poor month of September, winning their last two league matches.

Archer Roose Wines pokes fun at the metaverse in its latest ad that features actor Elizabeth Banks.
Archer Roose ad by Colossus / Colossus
‘Into the Metaverse’ begins with Banks, who is also the brand’s co-owner and chief creative officer, in her kitchen wearing a pair of funky glasses as she states that everything around her looks ‘so real.’
As her confused friend joins her in the kitchen, she asks why the Hunger Games actress is wearing her sunglasses. Adding to the hilarity, Banks hands her friend a vase – or as she calls it, a non-fungible token.
It’s a tongue-in-cheek campaign that plays on the fact that not a lot of people can pinpoint what the metaverse actually is, and positions Archer Roose as a product that’s best enjoyed in the real world with real-world people.

Japan’s government has approved a cabinet decision to amend existing laws to curb money laundering using crypto, according to local news reports.
The cabinet made the decision to move forward with the changes to the country’s Foreign Exchange Act and the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds on Oct. 14, Bittimes reported over the weekend.
The cabinet decision follows a Nikkei report from September that said the government is planning revisions to the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds targeting remittances in an effort to stop criminals from using crypto exchanges to launder money.
Japan has been looking to implement anti-money laundering standards recommended by global AML watchdog, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), since last year, while local crypto exchanges have been fighting to limit the rules’ scope citing compliance burdens and costs.
The new amendments seek to mandate crypto exchanges to share information like customers’ names and addresses when transfers are made between platforms, and could introduce penalties for entities in violation of these requirements.
The revisions, which were approved by the cabinet, is now scheduled to be submitted to the national legislature of Japan, known as the Diet, the report said.

PARK CITY, Utah–(BUSINESS WIRE)–In a move that links America’s snowsports governing body and the country’s largest creator of outdoor recreation media and services, U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Outside Interactive, Inc., today announced a longterm strategic partnership to create and broadcast snowsports content. For the first time, FIS World Cup alpine, cross country, freestyle, snowboard, and freeski events held in the United States will be available to stream on all Outside platforms, including OutsideOnline.com, SkiMag.com, the Outside App, and Outside Watch. The partnership will also launch a bundled Outside+ and U.S. Ski & Snowboard consumer membership, as well as business partnerships in competition registration, photography services, Web3 innovation, and sponsorship sales.
As part of the partnership, Outside becomes the streaming broadcaster of domestic U.S. World Cups, with more than 90 hours of competition in the 2022-23 season. The season’s eight alpine, freestyle, snowboard, and freeski domestic FIS World Cup events include the Killington Cup, Xfinity Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek, Aspen World Cup, Palisades Tahoe World Cup, Freestyle International at Deer Valley, the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth and Copper, and the Visa Big Air at Copper. The coverage will also feature never-before-televised snowboard and freeski qualifiers at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and Visa Big Air. In addition to these events, Outside will air new and archival non-event programming.
“We are delighted about this new partnership with Outside,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO. “It enables the passionate fans of skiing and snowboarding in the United States to watch our major domestic events and to combine the U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Outside communities in an innovative multi-platform partnership. We have the most FIS World Cups on U.S. soil in history this winter, and we are proud to showcase those incredible events with Outside to inspire new and seasoned ski and snowboard fans. Outside is more than a distribution partner with incredible channels and scale; what really attracted us was the opportunity to build a strategic alliance to allow our community to more deeply engage with our athletes, content and other new offerings.”
“First and foremost, we’re honored to support the Olympic movement and help U.S. Ski & Snowboard nurture the next generation of American medal hopefuls,” said Robin Thurston, CEO of Outside. “Nothing could be more inspiring for a young skier than to watch champions come up through the ranks, dominate and take gold with the national anthem playing. This partnership will bring those special moments to more eyeballs, along with hundreds of hours of exciting video content from Outside Watch, Warren Miller and our brand partners. With U.S. Ski & Snowboard, we’re creating a one-stop resource where skiers and snowboarders will find motivation along with the world’s richest archive of gear, travel, and instructional content.”
The partnership will also lead to the creation of a unique membership bundle for U.S. Ski & Snowboard members, one that provides access to Outside+ premium content, educational videos, SKI Magazine content, GPS mapping services, outdoor industry gear discounts and NASTAR, the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world.
In addition to airing races, Outside will have access to an extensive archive of ski and snowboard footage, as well as the opportunity to produce original content franchises with the team’s athletes, coaches and other experts. U.S. Ski & Snowboard will also utilize Outside’s expertise in competition software and Web3 to develop innovative services for its membership and fans of the sports.
