Avichal Garg, the CEO and co-founder of Electric Capital, defines himself as “an NFT maximalist” – who believes that nonfungible tokens (NFTs) will play an essential role in bringing crypto to the masses. Unlike other crypto niches, NFTs are relatable to aspects of everyday life such as art, music and games.
“I could imagine that NFTs are actually many billions of people because it’s ultimately culture. And that’s something that everybody can participate in and everybody can understand,” said Garg in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph.
In particular, Garg is bullish about NFTs being used in the gaming industry, which he sees growing at an exponential pace.
“In 18-24 months from now, I think we’re just going to see this onslaught of (NFT-based) games”, he said.
Garg believes the bear market could last as long as the macro picture is dominated by high inflation, which means it could take another year or two before we’ll see the next bull cycle. Still, when he looks beyond the current macroeconomic picture, at a 10-year time horizon, he feels extremely bullish on the crypto industry.
“Interest rates and inflation dominate in the short term when you’re talking about a 2-3 year time horizon. But innovation is the one that dominates in the long term.”, he pointed out.

HBO’s upcoming series, The Last of Us will adapt the critically acclaimed game of the same name, but this adaptation will have changes that will alter the story. In the show’s first look, HBO shows early footage of The Last of Us series starring Pedro Pascal, of The Mandalorian, playing Joel, and Bella Ramsey who plays his daughter, Ellie, creating much buzz around the upcoming show. Though brief, this clip also inadvertently reveals one big change HBO is making to the original story.
HBO’s The Last of Us follows Joel and Ellie, two survivors traveling together during an apocalyptic outbreak of zombie-like creatures. The show’s first look opens with the characters crossing a bridge during wintertime. However, in The Last of Us games, Joel is on the brink of death during Winter, having sustained heavy injuries after he and Ellie were ambushed by bandits. The time of year, and the Winter setting, is a significant point in The Last of Us games, as it leads to the player controlling Ellie instead of Joel for the first time.
While it is not currently getting as much backlash as the show’s casting choices, Joel not being injured during Winter is a big deal, since Joel’s injuries drive the back half of the original story. If Joel is not injured during Winter, it is unclear if Ellie’s point of view will be featured, or if Joel will become wounded some other way or time, and how this affects their encounter with a group of cannibals. HBO having Joel uninjured during Winter in their adaptation of The Last of Us has big ramifications, and it will inevitably beget more changes as a result.
What HBO’s The Last Of Us Winter Change Could Mean
With Joel appearing to be uninjured during Winter in the first look at HBO’s upcoming The Last of Us adaptation, some details of the series’ plot are now unclear due to the change. The most obvious question is: if Joel is not injured at the end of Fall, when and how will he sustain his injuries? The universe of The Last of Us is volatile enough that there are plenty of ways Joel might be injured. One possibility is that his wounds could be inflicted by David and his group of cannibals, who The Last of Us cast encountered during the Winter period in the original game. This would allow David to take a central role as an antagonist in the adaptation, in addition to creating a heightened sense of tension as Ellie tries to free Joel.
HBO changing the circumstances of Joel’s injuries in their adaptation creates another, more indirect change to the original story, affecting Ellie’s role in the latter half of The Last of Us. Winter marks the first time the story is told through Ellie’s eyes as she takes centre stage while Joel rests and recovers, which gives Ellie a level of responsibility she hadn’t possessed up to that point. Ellie being taken into custody by David and having to kill him to escape is a major character moment for her, but these events are indirectly a result of Joel’s injuries. It would be difficult for these events to transpire if Joel is not injured during Winter in HBO’s The Last of Us, leaving Ellie’s potential character development ambiguous. Though it’s a seemingly small change, HBO’s The Last of Us seeing Joel not be injured during Winter will have major effects on the show’s story. Joel’s injuries start a domino effect and having him healthy in Winter leaves many details unclear, including Ellie’s role.

State. Texas Tech sports medicine staff will remain with Ramirez at Wake Medical Center until he is able to safely travel and return to Lubbock.

CLARK COUNTY, Wash. (KPTV) – Four people were injured, and a driver is facing charges after a three-car rollover crash near Orchards in Clark County on Saturday afternoon.
Washington State Patrol said just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday, troopers responded to State Route 500 just east of Northeast 212th Avenue. When they arrived, they found a car rolled over on its top and another that was in a field south of the road.
Troopers learned three cars were involved. A westbound car crossed a double yellow center line and hit an eastbound car. That car crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a third vehicle head-on. Four people between the second and third cars were taken to a hospital. The first car went off the road, hit a fence and stopped in a field to the south.
WSP said it arrested the driver of the first car, 51-year-old Darin Lint of Vancouver. He is facing a charge of vehicular assault. Investigators are looking into the possibility drugs or alcohol are involved.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo are currently both out of the country.
While Buhari left Nigeria on Sunday for the 77th United Nations general assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA, Osinbajo has since arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of the burial ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II.
The queen died on September 8.
Following the news on Buhari and Osinbajo, there have been questions on who will be in charge of the country’s affairs.
In 2016, the president handed over power to Osinbajo for five days when he embarked on a “short vacation”.
In line with section 145 of the Nigerian constitution, Buhari informed the two chambers of the national assembly of his vacation through a letter. The development made Osinbajo acting president. This was the first time in close to 30 years that a leader of the Nigerian government would hand over power to his deputy. The last time that happened was in 1987, when Ibrahim Babangida, a former military ruler, went for a medical procedure in France.
Buhari’s trip to the US for the UN general assembly will see Nigeria and other countries hold bilateral or multilateral meetings on the sidelines. These types of agreements — ranging from discussions on agriculture, climate change, oil and gas, to mention a few — are aimed at mutually benefiting the countries involved.
DOES THE PRESIDENT OR VICE-PRESIDENT NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT TO GOVERN?
The constitution does not expressly state that a president or vice-president has to be in the country at all times to carry out their duties.
Section 145(1) of the 1999 constitution states: “Whenever the president transmits to the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the vice-president as acting president.”
The aforementioned provision suggests that there is only a vacuum if the president is proceeding on vacation or is unable to discharge the duties of the office owing to ill-health or death.
Buhari and Osinbajo currently do not fit the aforementioned categories, implying that they can discharge the duties of their offices from any part of the world.
‘THERE IS ONLY A VACUUM IF THE PRESIDENT TRANSMITS LETTER TO THAT EFFECT‘
Timi Olagunju, a lawyer and policy analyst, said the constitution is not specific on the president transmitting power every time he is out of the country.
“The constitution does not specifically state that any travel means that the president must transmit power. That is why there is a clamour for the parliament to review the law according to global standards, because section 144 talks of incapacity, while section 145 talks of vacation or ill-health, and sticks it to the parliament. That implies transmitting the power to the vice-president as acting until he sends another letter to say he is back,” he said.
“The constitution does not provide for a vacuum, except the president says there is a vacuum. The president has to transmit an official letter. There are two instances in which this section has been raised — Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari’s excessive stay in London. In the case of Goodluck, there was no transmission from Yar’Adua to him, but the parliament had to use the doctrine of necessity.
“If the president does not transmit officially, there cannot be said to be a vacuum. It means by implication that the president is still acting even though he has travelled. On a lighter note, he can preside virtually.
“If you say ‘every time the president travels abroad’, it becomes a geographical thing rather than a legal matter — that means if he goes to Niger Republic, he has to transmit power.
“For presidential decisions, that is why we have the federal executive council (FEC).”
Meanwhile, according to section 146(2) of the constitution, if Nigeria suddenly finds itself without a president and vice-president, the senate president automatically takes charge of the country for three months during which an election will be held to fill the vacuum.
Since Buhari did not initiate any communication to the national assembly in line with section 145 — and is not unable to discharge his duties — he is fully in charge of the country despite his absence and that of the vice-president.

The Merge has finally happened, and while bitcoin remains the preferred cryptocurrency of institutions (and one nation-state, El Salvador), Ethereum’s new consensus mechanism – and the scalability that is supposed to go with it – may attract some interest away from its bigger, older brother as the biting cold of the crypto winter continues.
Still, institutions may be hesitant to jump all in on ether just yet. One reason is regulatory uncertainty. U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler said proof-of-stake cryptocurrencies may be viewed as securities, though the regulator said he wasn’t talking about any specific coins. Nevertheless, his comments helped cause ether’s price to take a hit Thursday.
Meanwhile, it seems that if there were any flows from bitcoin to ether, much of that was stanched with the onset of the Merge.

At the start of the day – Sept. 15 – that the Merge happened, ether was trading for roughly 0.0817 BTC on Binance, according to data from TradingView. Fifteen hours later, it was changing hands at 0.0746 BTC and continued falling.

That’s a depressing chart, one may think. Except that’s only five days of data.
Let’s step back and look at how ether has been trading against bitcoin since the early days of the former’s life.
The Beacon Chain bottom and other ratios
The Beacon Chain, with which Ethereum ultimately merged, was launched Dec. 1, 2020. At the time, ether cost 0.0313 BTC. Thus, it has more than doubled in value since then.

Still, that doesn’t say anything about institutional interest. After all, prices can move based entirely on retail interest.
Trying to gauge institutional interest may be a bit tricky. For instance, using futures volumes isn’t as clear as one may expect. We see that, on a ratio of dollar volume basis, ether futures have been regularly outpacing bitcoin futures since July, according to data from Skew.com, though it recently took a hit.

That doesn’t tell us much about institutions because some of the exchanges Skew uses for data cater to retail investors with high risk tolerance.
There is at least one futures exchange, of course, that might be a good proxy for Wall Street’s interest and that’s the CME. The ratio of volumes between the two cryptocurrencies is way different:

The CME’s ratio of ether to bitcoin futures is decidedly all over the place, but it’s evident that dollar volumes for ether contracts on the CME have yet to surpass that of bitcoin futures contracts.
In the spot market, though, exchanges themselves can get a sense of the players interested in a currency.
“In terms of the volume increase in ETH this week, it was actually led by institutions, and that’s a significant part of our exchange business,” said Bitstamp USA CEO Bobby Zagotta on CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover” program Friday. There was “about 56% increase in volume from institutions versus, I think, [a] 35% increase in volume from retail users.”
A lot of that, Zagotta said, could be attributed to investors “selling the news” with the success of the Merge.
Meanwhile, ether’s drop in price didn’t just happen against bitcoin; it happened versus the U.S. dollar as well. Though the drop disappointed HODLers this past week, there are those who aren’t ruling out enormous upside down the road.
Matthew Sigel, VanEck’s head of digital assets research, likens ether’s performance versus USD after the Merge to what happened to bitcoin after significant changes.
“There are plenty of examples of big crypto developments, including bitcoin halvings, where the price traded in a range for weeks or months,” Sigel said on CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover” program Thursday. “It just takes one major stakeholder to make a decision to buy after some stability in the network. That can take days, weeks, months – who knows?”
Sigel, who has a five-year price target on ether of $8,000, noted four times as much ETH was staked on the Ethereum network in the six hours after the Merge than in the entire history of the Beacon Chain prior.
“It seems pretty clear that those who are in the markets are now making the decision to commit and lock up that liquidity,” he said. “That’s probably a trend that will continue over time, so the early results are, I think, pretty encouraging notwithstanding the price action.”

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden on Sunday paid their respects to Queen Elizabeth II, visiting her coffin lying in state at London’s Westminster Hall and signing condolence books at Lancaster House.
The President on Sunday said the Queen was “the same in person as her image – decent, honorable and all about service.”
“We’ve had an opportunity to meet with an awful lot of consequential people. But I can say that the ones who stand out in your mind are those whose relationship and interaction with you are consistent with their reputation,” Biden said after signing a condolence book Sunday evening.
Biden, who has often spoken out his own losses, also expressed condolences to the Royal Family and the entire United Kingdom, saying, “It’s a loss that leaves a giant hole, and sometimes you’ll think you’ll never overcome it. But as I’ve told the King, she’s going to be with him every step of the way.”
Biden said the Queen reminded him of his late mother because of her mannerisms, saying, “She had that look, like, ‘Are you okay? Is there anything I can do for you? What do you need?’ Also, ‘Make sure you’re doing what you’re supposed to do.’”
Biden took his time signing a lengthy message in the condolence book. Jill Biden signed a separate condolence book for leader spouses at Lancaster House, writing, in part, “Queen Elizabeth II lived her life for the people she served with wisdom and grace. We will never forget her warmth, kindness, and the conversations we shared.”
The Bidens were joined earlier during their visit to Westminster Hall by Jane Hartley, the US ambassador to the UK. The President was seen making the sign of the cross.
The Bidens are also attending a reception on Sunday at Buckingham Palace for visiting foreign leaders hosted by Britain’s new king, Charles III.
The President arrived in London late Saturday for a two-day visit honoring the long-reigning monarch, whom he says “defined an era.”
Biden is joining leaders from dozens of other nations to pay their respects to the late sovereign, whom he met last year and declared afterward reminded him of his own mother.
For Biden, it is a moment to reflect on a monarch who embodied a commitment to public service and whose life charted the major historical events of the last 100 years.
Biden and the Queen first met in 1982, when as a young senator, Biden’s own Irish American mother instructed him: “Don’t you bow down to her.”
He didn’t bow down then, or when he met the Queen as president last year while attending a Group of 7 summit in England. But his respect for a woman whose constancy on the world stage over the last century was unparalleled has been plain.
“She was a great lady. We’re so delighted we got to meet her,” Biden said on the day that she died.
The Queen’s surprise decision last year to travel to the Cornish coast to meet world leaders at the G7 summit was a signal of her desire to remain engaged in global affairs.
Later that week, when she hosted Biden and the first lady for tea at Windsor Castle, she inquired about two authoritarian leaders, Presidents Xi Jinping of China and Vladimir Putin of Russia, the President told reporters afterward.
“She had such curiosity. She wanted to know all about American politics, what was happening. So, she put us at ease,” Jill Biden said recently in an interview with NBC.
At Sunday evening’s reception, Biden is seeing Charles for the first time since he became King. The two men have met previously and spoke last week by phone.
As Prince of Wales, Charles was a passionate campaigner for certain issues Biden has also championed, including combating climate change. It remains to be seen how involved the new King will be on those issues going forward.
Relatively close in age – Charles is 73, Biden is 79 – the two men have a shared experience of being in the public eye for decades before assuming their current roles as heads of state.
On his call with the King, Biden “conveyed the great admiration of the American people for the Queen, whose dignity and constancy deepened the enduring friendship and special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom,” the White House said. “President Biden conveyed his wish to continue a close relationship with the King.”
Security in the British capital is at its highest level in memory as Biden and dozens of other world leaders convene to remember the late Queen, who met 13 sitting US presidents during her reign.
White House aides have declined to provide specific security details for the President’s visit but say they are working well with their British counterparts to ensure the demands of presidential security are met.
Plans for the Queen’s funeral have been in place for years, allowing US advisers greater insight into precisely what will happen over the coming days as they make security arrangements. The White House said it received an invitation only for the President and first lady, making for a slimmed-down American footprint.
Biden traveled with his national security adviser, communications director and other personal aides aboard Air Force One to London.
When reports emerged last week that world leaders would be required to ride on a bus to the funeral, US officials were skeptical and shot down the suggestion Biden that would travel to Westminster Abbey in a coach.
In 2018, when other world leaders traveled together in a bus to a World War I memorial in Paris, then-US President Donald Trump traveled separately in his own vehicle. The White House explained at the time that the separate trip was “due to security protocols.”
The Queen’s death came at a moment of economic and political turmoil for the United Kingdom. A new prime minister, Liz Truss, entered office after months of uncertainty following the decision of her predecessor, Boris Johnson, to step down.
Truss invited several visiting world leaders to meet individually at 10 Downing Street this weekend. In the role for only a little more than a week, it will be Truss’ first time meeting face to face with many of her foreign counterparts.
While her office initially said Biden would be among the leaders visiting Downing Street, it was later announced that Truss and the President would meet for formal bilateral talks on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
A host of issues are currently testing the US-UK “special relationship,” which has been heralded repeatedly in the days since the Queen’s death.
It was only two days after Truss traveled to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to formally accept the Queen’s appointment as prime minister that the long-reigning monarch passed away. Since then, the country has been in a formal period of mourning.
Truss inherited a deep economic crisis, fueled by high inflation and soaring energy costs, that has led to fears the UK could soon enter a prolonged recession. The challenges have been aggravated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has caused volatility in oil and gas markets.
While few in the Biden administration shed tears at Johnson’s resignation– Biden once described him as the “physical and emotional clone” of Trump – the US and the UK were deeply aligned in their approach to Russia under his leadership.
White House officials expect that cooperation will continue under Truss, even as she comes under pressure to ease economic pressures at home.
Less certain, however, is whether Truss’s hard-line approach to Brexit will sour relations with Biden. The President has taken a personal interest in the particular issue of the Northern Ireland Protocol, a post-Brexit arrangement that requires extra checks on goods moving between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.
The rules were designed to keep the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland open and avoid a return to sectarian violence. But Truss has moved to rewrite those rules, causing deep anxiety in both Brussels and Washington.
Biden, who makes frequent references to his Irish ancestry, has made his views clear on the issue, even though it does not directly involve the United States. Congressional Democrats have similarly expressed concern over any steps that could reignite the Northern Ireland conflict.
In their first phone call as counterparts earlier this month, Biden raised the matter with Truss, according to the White House. A US readout of their conversation said they discussed a “shared commitment to protecting the gains of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement and the importance of reaching a negotiated agreement with the European Union on the Northern Ireland Protocol.”

I’ve spent more than a little time trying to figure out where the long list of National Something or Other Days came from.
My deep-seeded sense of conspiracy makes me wonder about a secret group meeting in a secure facility, perhaps a culinary offshoot of the Illuminati. Why, in recent weeks, they named Sept. 5 National Cheese Pizza Day and Sept. 15 National Cheese Toast Day leaves me boggled. But not nearly as confused as the dubbing of Sept. 23 as Hug a Vegetarian Day — oddly the same day that’s also National Snack Stick Day.
Unlike the other culinary days, Hug a Vegetarian Day has a somewhat condescending ring to it — as if vegetarians were somehow in need of a special request for both love and respect. That may have been the way things were a long time ago, when vegetarians were Birkenstock wearers with beards and loose cotton meditation pants. Back in the day, there was a vegan restaurant in San Francisco called Communion run by a religious group who walked to farmers market every day, did not permit conversation over meals, and had a cigar box in which you were asked to contribute whatever you wanted for your meal.
That’s how we thought of vegetarians back then. And the disparagement was general.
In his book “Kitchen Confidential,” Anthony Bourdain wrote, “Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn. To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.” (And certainly his anti-veg attitude matches well with the current Cracker Barrel folderol involving their plant-based sausage. You’d think they were serving human body parts! Heck, if you don’t want the sausage, don’t order it.)
But for the most part, vegetarians don’t need a hug these days. There’s a long and illustrious history of serious, non-glib humans hailing the wonders of the meatless life. Albert Einstein, who was a lot smarter than most of us, said, “Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.”
George Bernard Shaw informed us that, “The average longevity of a meat eater is 63. I am on the verge of 85 and still work as hard as ever. I have lived quite long enough and am trying to die, but I simply cannot do it. A single beef-steak would finish me; I cannot bring myself to swallow it. I am oppressed with a dread of living forever. That is the only disadvantage of vegetarianism.”
And George Orwell, who saw the future with 20/20 clarity in “1984” and “Animal Farm,” was deeply hostile to vegetarianism, even though one critic condemned him as being part of “that dreary tribe of high-minded women and sandal-wearers and bearded fruit-juice drinkers who come flocking to the smell of ‘progress’ like bluebottles to a dead cat.”
(Should you want to study the history of hostility to vegetarians, I refer you to the large chapter in Wikipedia headed “Vegaphobia,” which is a new word to me. We discover, somewhat amazingly, that Britain’s National Health Service posted a job ad that said, “Occupational Therapists with vegan diets cannot be considered.” A primary school in England expelled a 5-year-old for drinking soy milk during lunch. Which seems excessive, and then some. Like I said, if you don’t want it, don’t eat it!)
So, I guess the bottomline is…vegetarians could use a hug. At least in England.
Here in SoCal, we love our veggies. We probably eat more fruit and vegetables than anyone else in America. And we do it with terrific creativity and style. Vegetables are our friends. Even if you don’t hug a vegetarian, hug a carrot. And not just on Sept. 23. Every day would be just fine — at great meatless places like these!

This is a vegetarian Vietnamese café, a style of cooking that works very nicely for those of us who proudly insist on holding onto our omnivore membership cards, thanks to the strong spices, dominant herbs and powerful sauces of Vietnamese cooking.
I actually think that vegetarian Thai cooking works even better. But it’s hard to complain about a meal at Happy Veggie — every dish makes you happy that you’re eating your veggies. This is truth in advertising.
I dropped by Happy Veggie with a closet vegetarian who observed that if all vegetarian restaurants were this pleasant and tasty, he’d have no problem at all leaving the world of meat behind. The menu is easy to navigate, and filled with numerous temptations, as long as you recognize that the chicken, shrimp and beef dishes are made with soy chicken, soy shrimp and soy beef — which don’t taste as much like chicken, shrimp and beef as they do like soy. And that’s fine, though for me, soy will never replace a nicely grilled chicken thigh. Still, accommodations must be made.
You don’t really have to go much beyond the handful of appetizers to create a happy meal at Happy Veggie. The Golden Tofu, a dish of fried tofu cubes, flavored with tiger mint, with a lemon dipping sauce, is much more subtle than you might expect a deep-fried dish to be — and it doesn’t lay as heavy on the mid-section as might be expected.
The veggie dumplings are pretty much essential — a plate of snappy little dough wrappers packed with cabbage, mushrooms and carrots, with pickled cabbage and carrots on the side, and a vinegar dipping sauce. They like their vinegar here, and so do I.
The chicken drumsticks are faux chicken, but not faux tasty, especially if you use lots of the teriyaki sauce, which would make my Reeboks taste pretty good. And, of course, there are two types of spring rolls — one with lettuce, mint, soba noodles and soy shrimp; the other with jicama and tofu, both served with peanut sauce. Refer back to my comment on teriyaki sauce when it comes to peanut sauce, and double it.
Is there pho? Of course there is, at pretty much every table. Only instead of being made with hard-to-identify chunks of beef, it’s made with easier to recognize tofu and soy chicken, plus ginger and what the menu tells us is “over 10 healthy herbs.”
There are four other soups, including a curry, potato and carrot creation that’s pretty amazing. There are two soy chicken salads, and half a dozen soy chicken entrees. But as ever, it’s a vegetable, served as a vegetable, that I’ll be sure to order next time around — the eggplant with tofu in a brownish sauce that made it impossible to stop grabbing random tastes.
The stir-fried mixed veggies are a hit as well. A very happy mix of veggies, stir-fried with tofu. A happy dish in a happy room, with a happy coconut cake for dessert.

Vegan Italian cuisine is…Italian cuisine, pretty much flat out. A browse through most Italian menus are proof that though meat is present, it’s not overwhelming. Cheese has a greater presence, but there are tasty workarounds these days. (My lactose-intolerant daughter has introduced me to the wonderful world of plant-based cheeses. I’m definitely impressed, especially when they’re used as a cooking ingredient.)
The 100-percent meatless menu at Pura Vita offers full disclosure of the alternatives offered. The meatballs are mushroom-lentil. The mozzarella and the ricotta are cashew, the parmigiano is macadamia, as is the Romano cream sauce. The pepperoni is “BE-Hive,” a vegan line out of Nashville that uses seitan (wheat protein). Pretty much every dish offers a gluten-free option.
Most of the wines are produced using methods that are organic, biodynamic and sustainable — words I toss around without a lot of understanding of their meaning. The food is pretty wonderful. Delicious insalata caprese (cashew mozzarella). A Cesare made with massage Tuscan kale (tasty, and relaxed!). A fine bucatini pesto, and snappy spaghetti carbonara (shiitake bacon). A bunch of good, crispy pizzas — both red and white — one topped with fennel pollen, another with micro basil. The Mushroom-lentil meatballs in a sandwich and as a polpettine antipasto.
I was happy to also get the broccoli rabe — because that’s all it was, just broccoli, with garlic, chili flakes and sea salt. So simple, so good — and vegan without announcing it. Vegetables are our friends.

There are numerous Veggie Grill branches here in Southern California, with more scattered between here and Seattle. The popularity of the chain is undeniable; on a Saturday night, the El Segundo outlet is pretty much packed, not with the wheat juice crowd, but with families who appear to enjoy a hamburger with fries during the rest of the week.
Veggie Grill has managed to position itself as a destination for both vegetarians, and non-vegetarians. It’s a tasty alternative for those who want recognizable dishes, even if those recognizable dishes aren’t made of the animal protein they’re usually made of. I’m talking about classic bits of tasty Americana like Buffalo wings (veggie chicken), mac and cheese (vegan cheese), beefless steaks, crabless crab cakes, fishless Baja fish tacos.
In my humble experience, no one local does meatless meat better than the Chinese vegetarian restaurants of the San Gabriel Valley, where they offer a crazy panoply of “guilt-free” proteins — pork, chicken, beef, goose, shrimp … the list goes on and on. Out there, I’m never quite sure if I’m eating something made from tofu or from grains. But whatever the mix, the taste is surprisingly like the original.

As electric as the atmosphere in Lane Stadium has been over the last two weeks, there’s no doubt it will ratchet up a few more notches this Thursday night, Sept. 22, when Virginia Tech Football welcomes long-time rival West Virginia back to Blacksburg for the first time since 2004.

The best way to discover a city is on foot, there is no doubt about it. The slower you go, the more you see, the more details you notice, and the more relaxed you are. But a close second is renting a bicycle and leaving the traffic on the streets as well as the pedestrians on the sidewalks behind.
European cities have always been cycle-friendly; growing up in Germany, I rarely ever used public transport, let alone taxis, because I always had my bicycle with me when going to school or seeing friends. And today, with a push toward greener living and trying to not only make cities more liveable by opening up streets and avenues to pedestrians while closing them to cars, and (thereby reducing toxic fumes), more and more cycle lanes are springing up, offering a great and much safer way to explore the inner cities.
A recent survey by Jorvik Tricycles, one of the leading, global tricycle providers, highlighted the best European cities to be explored by bicycle and tricycle, looking at numerous factors considered to make a city rider-friendly, including
routes
mapped cycleways
air pollution
popular landmarks
the number of cycle tours available within each city
Taking first place: A city you’d not immediately expect.
Having visited all and even lived in one of these cities, and having cycled in a fair few of them, I can attest to the bicycle-friendliness of these cities and recommend either cycle trips following your own itinerary or organized cycle tours as a superb way to experience each destination.

1. Rome
I must admit that I never expected Rome to come in at first place. Amsterdam, or Paris, yes. But Rome? Rome has always been a bit of a challenging city to get around. Yet, not only is riding a bicycle much faster than getting stuck in car traffic, and as the city is also quite sprawling, if you are time-poor, then cycling is certainly better than walking, trying to reach as many of Rome’s stunning sights as possible.
Add to that all the tiny lanes, hidden piazzas, and narrow alleyways, which you cannot even reach by car, and you stand a much better chance of discovering more “secret” and wonderful little places in Rome by bicycle.
While it is not necessarily known for its cycle lanes, there are some great routes which you can follow to get the most out of the city.
Pro Tip: With Rome being rather hilly, maybe rent an e-bike, or an old-fashioned Vespa, for that true Italian feeling.

2. Paris
Paris has an estimated 600+ miles of cycle lanes, and during COVID gained many more, with important throughways such as Rue de Rivoli having been closed to normal traffic, except buses and taxis, and opened to cyclists instead. You will find Velib stands throughout the city, and these rental bikes are easy to use, offering both mechanical as well as electric-assisted bikes, with green being the normal ones, and the light blue bicycles the electric ones. All you need is the app.
Pro Tip: You can also forgo the Velib cycles, and simply join a cycle sightseeing tour with bicycles provided. There are plenty of tours and routes to choose from.

3. Amsterdam
The city that springs to mind immediately when thinking of cycle-friendly European cities “only” comes in third place according to Jorvik’s survey. There are actually more bikes than people in Amsterdam — 1.33 bikes per person, and according to Jorvik, Amsterdam has more than half a million miles of mapped cycleways (many overlapping) and 7,923 cycle routes throughout the city.
There are a wide variety of cycle tours in and around Amsterdam, including entire bicycle vacations in the Netherlands, so you have choices, choices, choices.
Pro Tip: Just like in Germany, in the Netherlands, you brake by reverse pedaling rather than using hand brakes. It takes a little bit of practice, but you’ll get there.

4. Prague
Prague is another city where a bicycle saves you time and effort. And, if the weather is nice, you can cycle along the river Vltava and into the countryside, with plenty of mapped routes and organized sightseeing tours available. There are not half as many cycle lanes in this city as in others, but the traffic is not that bad either, so you feel a lot safer on the roads, and you are — at the time of writing — still allowed to ride throughout the Old Town, although there has been talk about banning it. Just be very careful with all the tourists around stopping unexpectedly for selfies.
Pro Tip: To save you from having to cycle up to Prague Castle, you can in fact take your bicycle on the funicular, as well as buses and the metro, for free.

5. Vienna
If you’re planning to cycle in Prague, know that you can actually ride from there all the way to Vienna, through stunning countryside, for a really special trip with plenty of sightseeing stops along the way. But you can also fly in and then check out Vienna on two wheels.
The old Imperial city is very bicycle friendly and perfect for being discovered by cycling with tours ranging from inner city sightseeing to trips through the winelands surrounding Vienna. While the tours will provide you with bicycles, you can also go it alone with WienMobil, the public rental service with 185 rental stations throughout the city, which is very easy to use.
Pro Tip: While in the city, don’t miss out on a tour along the Donaukanal, the Danube canal, be it on foot or on your bike, or, indeed, by boat.

6. Berlin
As I mentioned, growing up in Germany (quite a while ago!), everybody was always on bicycles, something that has only become more so over the last few years. Running close behind Amsterdam, there are some 72 million bicycles in Germany, nearly one per person, and the country has the infrastructure to match. In the capital, Berlin, it is no different. Just last year a detailed plan for more than 1,800 miles of cycle lanes was unveiled, and pretty much all roads and sidewalks already have cycle lanes in place.
To explore the city, which is large, with rivers, lakes, and extensive woodlands within the city limits, there are a plethora of organized tours, from the highlights of the sights to a ride along the (former) wall.
Pro Tip: While it is tempting to stop at every Biergarten along the route, beware that although much more lenient than the alcohol levels when driving a car (0.05%), there is still a maximum alcohol level of 0.16%, and you can end up being fined for drunk cycling.

7. Lisbon
In Lisbon, you will be torn between hopping on the cute trams, taking the elevators that dot the city to save your breath, or walking within the pedestrian zones. But, there are a few sights lying outside the city, such as the Aquarium on one side and Belem Tower on the other, that are best reached by renting and riding a bicycle.
Ride alongside the Tagus River down to Belem, and you can then eat your Pastel de Nata guilt-free. You can even take the ferry from Belem, and take your bike on it, to hop across to the beach of Costa da Caparica on the other side of the river to make a day of it. For more ideas, there are plenty of organized tours that are worth joining.
Pro Tip: One of the highlights of any Portugal vacation is the food you find locally. So, why not combine cycling and eating on this food tour?

8. Copenhagen
If you are interested in European royalty, you will have come across the (originally Australian) Crown Princess Mary taking her children to school in a tricycle. In Copenhagen some 50 percent of all residents commute by bike, regardless of the weather, or season.
The Danes’ enthusiasm for the humble bicycle as a mode of transport is such that they even managed to get the Tour de France to Denmark in summer 2022. Riding your bike is simply the best way to get around here, and you can ride from the city to the green countryside and even the stunning Baltic coastline.
Pro Tip: Being “green” and sustainable is an important part of Denmark’s approach to life — one of the reasons that Copenhagen keeps being selected as most liveable city in the world — so why not go on a tour searching out the city’s many superb sustainable attractions?

9. Budapest
Budapest is an ideal city to explore on a bicycle, as it’s easier to reach the spread-out sights, cross the river Danube on the various beautiful bridges, and really enjoy the wide Danube by following it along for a few miles out of the city.
With Pest being relatively level, riding is easy. While the Buda side is steep, you can either take your bike up on the funicular and then slowly wind your way back down again to river level, or opt for an e-bike, making the experience that much easier.
Pro Tip: You can either grab one of the MOL Bubi bikes from almost anywhere in the city, rent an e-bike, or join a sightseeing tour.

Fidelity Investments, which boasts $9.9 trillion in assets under administration as of June this year and began mining bitcoin as far back as 2015, is considering opening up the bitcoin and crypto market to its 34.4 million brokerage accounts, it was reported by the Wall Street Journal this week.
“After one domino falls, the rest will come. This is exactly the type of confirmation that asset managers need to enter the crypto space themselves,” Marcus Sotiriou, an analyst at London-based digital asset broker GlobalBlock, said in emailed comments, adding the move shows Fidelity’s “belief in bitcoin’s longevity.”
Earlier this year, Fidelity sent ripples through the crypto market when it said it would begin allowing its 401(k) retirement savings account holders to invest directly into bitcoin, sparking a backlash from regulators and lawmakers. Influential senator Elizabeth Warren called the plan “immensely troubling,” warning bitcoin could be too risky an investment for retirement savers, while the Labor Department’s acting assistant secretary said he had “grave concerns.”
News of Fidelity’s latest potential bitcoin support was teased by bitcoin bull and Galaxy Digital chief executive Mike Novogratz who said, “we are seeing this institutional march” toward bitcoin, it was reported by the WSJ.

“A bird told me, a little bird in my ear, told me Fidelity is going to shift its retail customers into crypto soon enough,” Novogratz said on stage at the Salt conference in New York. “I hope that bird is right.”
Last week, the chief executive of crypto trading platform Eight Global, Michaël van de Poppe, said he expected Fidelity to launch bitcoin trading for retail customers in November. “The adoption grows and it accelerates,” he posted to Twitter.
In 2021, Fidelity global macro director Jurrien Timmer gave his backing to bitcoin, saying it had a “unique advantage over gold.”
“Bitcoin is gaining credibility, and as a digital analog of gold but with greater convexity, my guess is that bitcoin will, over time, take more market share from gold,” Timmer wrote.

(CNN)You may have up to a 50% higher risk of developing long Covid-19 if you suffer from common psychiatric issues such as anxiety or depression, a recent study found.
Signs of the malady can include breathing problems, brain fog, chronic coughing, changes in taste and smell, overwhelming fatigue, difficulties in performing daily life functions, and disruptions in sleep that can last months, even years, after the infection has cleared the body.
People who self-identified as having anxiety, depression or loneliness, or who felt extremely stressed or worried frequently about the coronavirus were more likely to experience long Covid-19, according to the study published this month in JAMA Psychiatry.
“We found participants with two or more types of psychological distress before infection had a 50% higher risk of getting long Covid,” said study coauthor Dr. Siwen Wang, a research fellow in the department of nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston.
About 40 million adults over 18 in the United States live with an anxiety disorder, while over 21 million have suffered from major depression, according to national statistics. Many mental health conditions often overlap, with concurrent diagnoses, experts say. More than a fifth of adults in the US (22%) and the UK (23%) say they often or always feel lonely, a Kaiser Family Foundation study said.
“Having higher levels of psychological distress prior to a Covid infection also increased the risk of getting long Covid by 50%,” Wang said. “Those people also reported more symptoms seen in long Covid.”
It’s possible that some could use the study’s findings to support a hypothesis that post-Covid illness is psychosomatic, a prevalent belief in the early days of the pandemic, said Dr. Wesley Ely, a professor of medicine and critical care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He was not involved in the study.
Instead, the study’s message should be that people with existing psychological distress are closer to the “disaster” of long Covid, said Ely, codirector of Vanderbilt’s Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction and Survivorship Center.
“Imagine 10 people are running a race, and you give five people a head start,” Ely said. “Those are the people who already had a mental health issue — they are just closer to the unfortunate finish line of getting long Covid.”
The mind-body connection
The idea that mental distress can affect the body in negative ways isn’t new. It’s also a two-way lane: Having a chronic illness is strongly associated with the development of depression and other psychological disorders.
With common noninfectious disorders such as heart disease, “depression/anxiety/emotional distress do appear to play a role,” said Dr. Joseph Bienvenu, a professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, in an email. He was not involved in the study.
People with major depression can develop blood pressure issues and may be more likely to have a heart attack. Chronic depression, stress and anxiety have been linked to insomnia, and a lack of quality sleep is a major culprit in the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes and other disorders.
And psychological distress has been shown to weaken the immune system, said study coauthor Dr. Angela Roberts, an associate professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at Stanford University in California.
“Your brain and your immune system are very tightly interconnected,” Roberts said. “Studies have shown when you’re depressed or anxious, your immune system doesn’t work as well against targets like viruses and bacteria.”
Some patients continue to suffer
To do the new study, researchers worked with nearly 55,000 people with no history of Covid-19 who were enrolled in three major longitudinal studies: the Nurses’ Health Study II, the Nurses’ Health Study 3 and the Growing Up Today Study. Participants in those studies tend to be predominantly female and White, which can limit how much the results can be generalized to a wider population, the study said.
Participants were asked about their mental health in April 2020, quite early in the pandemic. They continued to fill out mental health surveys each month for six months, then quarterly. At the end of a year, researchers narrowed the pool of subjects to nearly 3,200 people who had developed Covid-19 and met study requirements.
“This study is particularly nice in that participants’ baseline characteristics were assessed independently in time from their later Covid symptoms,” Johns Hopkins’ Bienvenu said.
Compared with people not having mental distress, those with depression and loneliness had a 1.32 times greater chance of developing long Covid symptoms. Participants who worried a good deal about the coronavirus — predominantly people of color, women and asthma sufferers — were 1.37 times more likely to develop long Covid, the study found.
Anxiety was associated with a greater risk — 1.42 times more likely — but people with higher levels of perceived stress were nearly 50% more likely to develop post-Covid symptoms, said Wang, the study coauthor.
All the associations between psychological distress and long Covid remained significant, even after researchers adjusted for demographics, body weight, smoking status and a history of asthma, cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure or cholesterol.
In addition, all types of psychological distress except loneliness were linked to a higher risk of being unable to complete the actions of daily life due to ongoing long Covid symptoms.
While many cases of long Covid are mild and resolve within a few months, other patients continue to suffer for an extended time. Some still haven’t recovered their quality of life more than two years into the pandemic, according to Dr. Aaron Friedberg, a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine who works in the Post-Covid Recovery Program at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
“They can’t think, they can’t breathe. I have one person whose disease is so severe, they basically can’t get out of bed,” Friedberg told CNN in an earlier interview. “I saw a person recently who is still not working because of Covid symptoms two years later.”

NNSA names Alvarado as Production Office Deputy Field Office Manager
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has named Carlos Alvarado as Deputy Field Office Manager for the NNSA Production Office (NPO). NPO serves as the federal oversight for the Pantex Plant in Amarillo and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Alvarado has served as the Acting Deputy Field Office Manager at Pantex since May. Previously, he was the NPO Associate Deputy Manager for Operations at Pantex where he was responsible for providing oversight of site production operations. He has served in a variety of operations-related oversight and leadership roles for NNSA at the Pantex Plant over the last 24 years.
Before joining the Department of Energy (DOE) at Pantex in 1998, Alvarado worked nearly 10 years at the DOE’s Paducah Site Office in Kentucky where he performed oversight of maintenance and operations of Uranium Enrichment facilities and served as a program manager for environmental management projects.
Alvarado received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University. He is a qualified Senior Technical Safety Manager.

Texas A&M AgriLife to lead historic investment in Texas’ efforts to become ‘climate-smart’
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is anticipating the largest competitive grant in the organization’s history, up to $65 million, to execute a five-year multi-commodity project to work with Texas’ large agricultural sector on expanding climate-smart agriculture and forestry practices. It is part of a federal investment in 70 partnerships recently announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
According to the USDA announcement, these federal projects will expand markets for climate-smart commodities, leverage the greenhouse gas benefits of climate-smart commodity production, and provide direct, meaningful benefits to production agriculture, including for small and underserved producers. Project partners will be tasked with providing technical and financial assistance to producers to implement climate-smart production practices on a voluntary basis on working lands.
Texas A&M AgriLife’s internal members for this initiative include AgriLife Research, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Longtime AgriLife Extension employees retire after lengthy careers
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service recently had several longtime county agents, specialists and program coordinators retire, ending careers of service to the agency.
“Each of these employees has put together lengthy, exceptional careers of service in helping make a difference in the lives of Texans,” said Rick Avery, Ph.D., director of AgriLife Extension, Bryan-College Station. “We extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to these individuals and wish them all the best. They have set an example for the type of people we want working for our agency statewide.”
Among them is Cody Hill, Tahoka, who has served the AgriLife Extension for almost 28 years until his retirement in August. Hill served most recently as 4-H coordinator and agriculture and natural resources agent for Lynn County. Prior to that, he filled similar positions in Taylor County.
Mark Waller, Ph.D., Bryan-College Station, served as associate department head for the Department of Agricultural Economics and AgriLife Extension program leader since 2005. Waller’s career spanned over 34 years. As acting department head for agricultural economics from May 2018 through July 2021, Waller directed statewide AgriLife Extension economics programs and oversaw programming efforts of more than 20 specialists and staff across Texas. Waller retired in August.

Observing today’s world and all conundrums of postmodernism, along with pluralism and the tyranny of choice, one can witness an “era of gaps”, where great lack of common denominators is a contemporary hazard. The situations redefine diligence and empowers individuals to act like agents of change, not solemnly passive receivers. “Now in the era of artificial intelligence, a new underreported challenge has emerged – when will humans become obsolete? If one believes that this question is yet another example of philosophical melodrama, it is important to consider that society will soon have to redefine what it considers to be life itself” (Bajrektarević, 2020).
In this article I discuss and investigate the idea of unity and pluralism, inclusion nor integration of EU Members and mostly focus on philosophical and existentialistic constituents of stability in the post-covid era of meaning loss. I specially introduce the triad trust-collaboration- mediation.
PLURALISM, ECOSYSTEM OF DEMOCRACY
Many contemporary reflections on the events of last few decades are surmounting the genuine role of pluralism to unfold democratic standards. Major changes and shifts were induced by general alternations of beliefs, conduct and perception. “When our sporadic breakthroughs finally became faster than their infrequent transmissions, this marked a major turning point in the history of human development. Simply put, our civilizations started to significantly differentiate from each other in their respective techno-agrarian, politico-military, ethno-religious, ideological, and economic structures” (Bajrektarević, 2020).
We can bow to the idea of multilateral and plural, dignifying understanding of many different views, aspects, and perceptions. Unquestionably we as humanity are denoting diversity of views or standards alongside our brutal colonial, postcolonial and post war conditions. Pluralism can be an answer, side off totalitarianisms and one-sided approaches. Since everyone is unique from one another, whilst there are infinite differences in humans, our backgrounds, education, and expectation, we must learn to recognize, interlace, and adapt to historic and social-economic context of our fellow beings. We need to question our grounding positioning and reembrace the idea of “enlightened argumentation”.
Essential question here is, who is managing common denominators of the modern and contemporary pluralisms? Who is translating the gaps of meaning, contexts, and perceptions? To whom we justify our modus operandi? Is there any kind of individual responsibility behind the international clusters and organizations?
We do not dispute the idea and practice of pluralism rather searching for unfolded ground, solid in structure and prone to any kind of criticism. But we encounter technological devolvement of human affairs; engendering the idea of biological relativity upholds the question of “what life really is”. For example, “AI now has it all – quantum physics, quantum computing, nanorobotics, bioinformatics, and organic tissue tailoring. All of this could eventually lead to a synthesis of all the above into what are usually referred to as xenobots – a sort of living robot – and biodegradable symbiotic nanorobots that exclusively rely on self-navigable algorithms” (Bajrektarević, 2020).
Pluralism certainly is an ecosystem of democracy, shielding the subtle nuances of partitions, supporting the core, and distinguishing it from the tainted and awry interpretations. The diligence of modern diplomacy faced with conundrum of believes and brown-nosing interests, outdoes the schism, self-regarding positioning, and frictions in the map of human empathy and wisdom.
This is also a reason why diplomats need to respond to cumbersome media in the wake of interpretative realties attacks (e.g. fake news), lukewarmly summoned in social media and e-worlds.
Today’s pundits are more likely to study neuroscience, philosophy, and anthropology rather solely art of diplomacy against contemporary labyrinth of possible realities, yielding and era where no mind can encompass it all, rather estimates, prescribes, visions, and predicts. And all we can dwell into is a structure of possible scenarios, relying only on our knowledge, clean perception and trustworthy colleagues, social groups, and intimate circles. And we need to search for common denominators where we suggest one of them.
PRIMAL COMMON DENOMINATOR, TRUST
Trust is a new category not just in contemporary workplaces where we need to create environments of psychological safety to support mutual and successful cooperation. As well it is a genuine link in the chain of negotiating in desultory or hostile environments of contemporary global politics.
Since each international milieu deploys a diverse team of people, reflecting their own culture and believes, we need to be aware of a fragile equilibrium to support strong HR inclusion politics. As definitions says, “diversity encompasses the spectrum of infinite dissimilarities that distinguish individuals from one another”. Whilst search for common denominator is a big ask, one must conscientiously foster and uphold focus on things that bind, not separate us. Impactful are diverse surroundings we originate and derive from, that can easily put question mark to our cognition, hence to possible misunderstandings: citizenship status, cognitive abilities, cultural differences, education, ethnicity, family, gender, gender expression, geographical location, ideologies, income, language, marital status, morals, neurodiversity, parental status, physical abilities, political beliefs, privilege, race, religious beliefs, skills, social roles, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, upbringing, work experiences etc.
But if we follow the formula of three stated notions, is clear that what we UNDERSTAND, we can ACCEPT; what we FEEL, we can CO-RELATE TO and what we INTERNALIZE, we can CO-CREATE.
In pursuing the goal of collective abundance and stability, leaders sometimes carry to heavy burden. They need to address collective imagination of peoples and create framework of shared reality, identity, bringing together four particulate and individual dimensions: body (healthy living), mind (smart decisions), heart (trustworthy relationships) and spirit (contribution to the benefit of all) and other important cultural beliefs of EU.
While social scientists classically studied trust, conceptualized it as a mental state and measured as such, they were assuming that high levels of trust reflect a social reality in which people are more trustworthy and tend to cooperate more frequently. Only actors who trust one another should cooperate with each other, e.g., exchange information, resources, etc. Of course, reality is relentlessly far away from stated ideal; entering a cooperative relationship normally requires a certain level of trust, and the same is necessary to sustain that relationship. We have accounts of trust as a form of moral commitment, a character disposition, or a dynamic of ‘encapsulated interests’, where trust emerges as a mutual co-implication of interests on all transacting parties.
These conceptions turn on a notion of trust as a ‘cognitive category’ because ‘all depend on assessments of the trustworthiness of the potentially trusted person.’ (Hardin 2006: 17)
We could estimate that trust emerges as an epiphenomenon of social knowledge: what people’s relationships look like after the fact of cognitive re-appraisals is a sine qua non of the idiom of trust. Can we just bluntly trust, willing to meet all perils of such an irrational decision?
There is more to trust that its relation to cognitive and knowledgeable structures. Trust may be ‘encapsulated’ in reciprocal expectations (Hardin 2006), but it is also distributed in a variety of human and nonhuman forms; it is as much as cognitive category as it is a material one; indeed, it belongs to the realm of the intersubjective in as much as it belongs to the interobjective. It is as much an anthropological object (of theory) as an object of social knowledge. The question of trust therefore qualifies as an anthropological concept.

Collaboration is an old way to work efficiently; at the core of collaboration is trust and exercise of agreed meaning, which can be achievable in many ways, one of which is mediation. Celtic’s 364-day unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership came to a crashing end as St Mirren climbed to third in the table with a deserved 2-0 victory over the champions.
Almost 12 months to the day since the Hoops’ last league defeat, headers from captain Mark O’Hara (43) and Jonah Ayunga (53) inspired St Mirren to their first home win over Celtic in 12 years and inflicted a first league loss on the visitors in 38 games.
Celtic were tasked with responding to Rangers’ victory over Dundee United on Saturday but delivered an abject attacking performance as Ange Postecoglou’s side failed to restore their five-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
After losing his last eight matches against the Glasgow club, conceding 27 goals in the process, it was a maiden victory over Celtic at the 15th attempt for St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson to savour, as his side moved up to third, six points behind leaders Celtic, in the table.

A minute’s applause in memory of Queen Elizabeth II was marred by unsavoury chants from sections of the travelling Celtic support, with some fans singing ‘if you hate the Royal Family clap your hands’ while a banner containing the same phrase could be seen in the away end.
Once the game got under way, Celtic had 81 per cent of the possession in the first 45 minutes – the most they have had in the first half of a Scottish Premiership match since a 5-0 victory over Partick Thistle in 2017 – but failed to create anything of note and went in behind at the break.

Following the 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Postecoglou rang the changes with former Saints player Aaron Mooy, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh, David Turnbull, Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada coming into the side, while Scott Tanser replaced Richard Tait for St Mirren.
Ryan Strain spearheaded St Mirren’s threat on the counter-attack and the right-back laid on the opener as his sumptuous cross found captain O’Hara, who ghosted in unmarked at the back post to plant a forceful header past Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Postecoglou introduced Jota and Reo Hatate at the break in a bid to galvanise the Celtic attack but, after another defensive lapse, the visitors were two down before they knew it. Curtis Main outmuscled Stephen Welsh to keep a long throw alive, flicking the ball onto Ayunga to head in the second.

Giorgos Giakoumakis and Sead Haksabanovic were brought on as Celtic turned to their substitutes for inspiration, but it was not forthcoming, and St Mirren should have put the game to bed when O’Hara headed wide on 62 minutes.
Moritz Jenz, Giakoumakis and Greg Taylor all forced saves from goalkeeper Trevor Carson but Celtic’s comeback failed to materialise as St Mirren saw out a famous and deserved victory to reignite the early title race.

BEIRUT – The President of the American University of Technology (AUT), Dr. Ghada Hinain, has declared the University’s decision to award an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (Doctorate Honoris Causa) to HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global) for his lifetime achievements in the service of humanity in the fields of knowledge and innovation.
The awarding occurred during the commencement ceremony of 250 graduates in the presence of MP Simon Abi Ramia, representative of Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri and Prime Minister-designate, Najib Mikati.
Dr. Hinain addressed the attendees at the ceremony saying: “We, at the University, have successfully turned crises into points of strength, determination and solid will for a bright life. Today, despite the current crisis in Lebanon, and the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, political and economic clashes, regionally and internationally, we have our youth who managed to combine science and technology with national values and ethics.”
She added that the youth of Lebanon are the real fortune, identity, civilization and legacy, noting that Lebanon is different from other countries, and the world is in dire need of our country, Lebanon.
For his turn Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the honoring of the Doctorate Degree. He addressed the graduates and briefed them on his life story since his displacement from Palestine and his refuge in Lebanon, and the suffering he passed through which constituted the main motive for excellence and success in building the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global, the global organization for professional services, education and tech product, operating in more than 100 offices around the world.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, further, called on graduates to embrace innovation and inventions in the field of knowledge which is considered the key to overcoming all crises, noting that innovation is not restricted to anyone, and a single inventor could be the savior of a whole nation.
In this context, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh cited the examples of Google, Amazon and Facebook, saying that the budget of each one of them equals the budgets of all Arab countries combined, explaining that these corporations are purely knowledge inventions and computer programming software.

(NEXSTAR) – Home buyers open to embracing a new state will get a lot more house for their money, a new study shows.
An analysis by The Ascent, which rates and reviews personal finance products, found that the average median home price in the first quarter of 2022 was $428,700.
In the 10th least expensive state, Louisiana, the average price is less than half that, at $214,522. If Mardi Gras, mouth-watering culinary options and a fascinating history are not enough to draw you to the Pelican State, don’t worry, there are cheaper options.
In Kentucky, home to the iconic Derby and Mammoth Cave National Park, the average price dips below $200,000, to $197,644.

There’s also good news for home buyers in all states. An analysis of home sales data by Redfin shows that, on average, U.S. homes purchased during a four-week period in August sold for less than what sellers were asking. That hasn’t happened since at least March 2021, according to the real estate brokerage.
“The only times you get homes going above list price is when there’s a bidding war, and those used to not be a regular occurrence,” said Daryl Fairweather, Redfin’s chief economist. “And we’re back to a place where bidding wars are unusual, not the norm.”
On average, 7.5% of homes for sale in the four weeks in August that Redfin tracked had a price drop each week, a record high, the company said.
That the typical home is now selling for below the asking price is a sign that the housing market is becoming a bit more balanced, or less skewed, toward sellers.
“It’s significant that now buyers know that when they’re bidding on a home chances are they can get it for less than the asking price and without a competing offer, which was not the case earlier this year,” Fairweather said.
That doesn’t mean some homes aren’t still drawing multiple offers. Some 37% of homes purchased in the four-week stretch of August analyzed by Redfin sold for more than their list price. That was down from 50% a year earlier, Redfin said.

The University of Ghana branch of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana has expressed its displeasure with the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and the government for the delay in paying graduate students’ bursaries since 2019.
“Research is an important tool for national development. As graduate students, whose major preoccupation is research, we dedicate our time to finding solutions to the plethora of challenges that confront society,” Ms Christiana Adu, President of the University of Ghana GRASAG, said in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency.
“This we do with all dedication and diligence in pursuit of the development of our nation,” she stated. “It is somewhat surprising that a government that believes in education and is determined to turn the fortunes of this country post-COVID-19 pandemic has not prioritised our academic research work.”
She said the association had observed with “great concern the lack of urgency by the government and the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat in paying the bursaries of our members.”
According to her, the government had ignored multiple appeals by their mother association, GRASAG National, to ensure the payment of overdue bursaries to certain students in the 2019/2020 academic year, as well as payment for the 2020/2021 bursary and registration for the 2021/2022 academic years.
“The 2020/2021 academic year ended with no commitment from the government to pay bursaries due graduate students,” she added.
She said many graduate students were unable to complete their thesis due to the non-disbursement of the bursaries, which was hampering the flow of academic work.
Ms Adu also said the Association had contacted the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat and had called on the Minister for Education to seek his intervention for the payment of the bursaries, but all of their attempts failed, and the bursaries remained unpaid.
She added, “We are still urging the government and the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat to expedite payment of our bursaries in earnest.”
She also called for an upward adjustment in their bursaries from the present level of GHS 420 for each student pursuing a master’s degree, saying: “This amount is woefully inadequate and insignificant under the current economic circumstances to fund academic research.”
However, while asking the government to send payments into their accounts by Thursday, September 22, 2022, she stated that if the government continued with its current posture, “we may advise ourselves in a manner most appropriate and lawful.”
