Melissa’s Trip To Ghana With Operation Walk, Organized By Melissa Patnella – GoFundMe https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/melissas-trip-to-ghana-with-operation-walk-organized-by-melissa-patnella-gofundme/ My name is Melissa Patnella and I am a physical therapist who has accepted the opportunity to travel with the organization Operation Walk to Ghana on November 10-19, 2022. On this trip, the medical team (6 orthopedic surgeons, 5 anesthesiologists, 10 nurses, 3 PTs, and other support staff) will be doing hip and knee replacements for the people of Koforidua, Ghana. I am so excited to have the opportunity to use my medical skills to make real change in peoples’ lives, especially in a part of the world where this level of medical care is not as accessible. I am asking for donations for this trip, as I am using my vacation time from work as well as paying for travel and other trip related costs (vaccinations, etc). Any donations collected beyond the cost of my individual trip will go to the Operation Walk fund for our group as a whole for more medical supplies and donations for their community. Thank you!

How To Get Pregnant With PCOS? 5 Tips To Increase Fertility Health Shots
How To Get Pregnant With PCOS? 5 Tips To Increase Fertility – Health Shots https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/how-to-get-pregnant-with-pcos-5-tips-to-increase-fertility-health-shots/ When trying to conceive, it makes sense that you would want to do everything in your power to conceive quickly. However, for women who have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), their efforts may go in vain as it can be complicated to become pregnant with PCOS. The good news is that it is not impossible. PCOS and pregnancy problems An irregular menstrual cycle, absence of menstruation, heavy flow, short and light menstruation, and even spotting are all symptoms of the hormonal condition PCOS, which alters the menstrual cycle. This makes it extremely challenging for a woman to get pregnant. Additionally, PCOS symptoms such as obesity, excessive hair growth in unwanted areas, acne, and infertility are also present. Though the exact cause of it is unknown, it is thought and various studies have demonstrated that you can become pregnant with lifestyle modifications and a healthy diet. Can a woman get pregnant with PCOS? Yes, PCOS can be effectively managed with the proper treatment, a good diet and lifestyle, and specific expert interventions. Thus, it increases a person’s chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby. Health Shots got in touch with Dr Ritu Hinduja, Fertility Consultant, Nova IVF Fertility, Mumbai to suggest how a woman can become pregnant while dealing with PCOS. Here are 5 major tips to increase fertility with PCOS: 1. Reverse any insulin resistance Women with PCOS often struggle with insulin resistance, which results in high blood sugar and insulin levels and increases the likelihood that they will experience conceiving difficulties. Dr Hinduja says, “To manage it your doctor can prescribe Metformin or Myoinisitol to help try cutting out sugar and refined carbs from your diet. Also, he/she can suggest that you make sure that you get enough protein, fibre and healthy fats.” With these changes, you will see your blood sugar levels and your insulin level drop. Keep insulin levels in check. Image courtesy: Shutterstock 2. De-stress Balanced hormones and healthy adrenals are essential for fertility, but all of your hormones are impacted by the stress hormone cortisol, which is produced by your adrenal glands. So by actively lowering and preventing any stress, you can improve your chances of getting pregnant. To destress yourself you can perform yoga, meditation, breathing exercises and even fun activities to boost your mood. If your cause of stress are some serious mental health issues then check with a therapist. Also, read: PCOS can screw up your fertility. And here’s what a gynae wants you to know about it 3. Track your menstrual cycle Women with PCOS suffer from irregular period cycles therefore it is really important for them to track it every month. “By keeping track of your cycles, you can pinpoint the precise four days in the month to try for a baby by learning when you ovulate and where your fertile window falls,” says Dr Hinduja. Also, read: 7 expert-recommended tips to manage PCOS at home 4. Confirm ovulation with test strips You can get ovulation kits from any local pharmacy, which function very similarly to a pregnancy test, to determine when you are ovulating. It checks your urine to let you know when you are most likely to become pregnant. If this test results in a positive reading, ovulation should start in one to two days. Therefore, those who intend to become pregnant should have sex within three days of the test. When an egg is released from the ovaries, this may increase the likelihood that it will become fertilised. Track your fertility period if you want to conceive. Image courtesy: Shutterstock To determine how regularly you ovulate, keep track of when you ovulate each month. 5. Adopt a healthy lifestyle A pregnancy with PCOS can be managed with changes in lifestyle that includes clean, plant-based eating and holistic living. Dr Hinduja says, “Target being in the healthy weight range, quit smoking, cutting back on alcohol, eating a healthy diet, get plenty of regular exercise and enough sleep.” A minor weight decrease might occasionally lead to more regular ovulation in overweight or obese women with PCOS, increasing the likelihood of conception.

Former County Resident’s Illustrations Part Of Book | News, Sports, Jobs – Evening Observer https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/former-county-residents-illustrations-part-of-book-news-sports-jobs-evening-observer/ Submitted Photo Cheryl Bielli, former Chautauqua County resident, was an illustrator for the recently published Children’s Book, “The Boy Who Never Threw Anything Out.” A former Chautauqua County resident has had her illustrations published as a part of a new children’s book. Cheryl Bielli illustrated “The Boy Who Never Threw Anything Out” which made its national debut on Sept 6. Bielli grew up and went to school in Erie, and starting at the age of 12 spent her summers at Point Chautauqua. She also lived in Fredonia and worked for the Dunkirk OBSERVER from 1986 to 1988. Additionally, she rides her bike in Chautauqua and worked several summers at Chautauqua Institution. Bielli currently lives in the Adirondacks region. The book, “The Boy Who Never Threw Anything Out” by Margie Peterson, focuses on Tommy, a young boy who gets emotionally attached to everything in his room and never throws anything away. This leads to everything piling up in his room and to many misadventures for Tommy, until no other living thing can get into his room except for bugs. This eventually leads to his parents convincing him to recycle and donate all of his items, which then leads to Tommy finally cleaning out his room. For Bielli, illustrating and children’s books have always been a part of her life, so illustrating one was something she has always wanted to do. “I have three kids that are all grown up now, but we used to go to the library when they were little and get a ridiculous amount of books,” Bielli said. “I would always pick some out because I liked the illustrations and children’s books in general. So, illustrating one has always been on my bucket list.” Bielli said she used to make her own books as a kid and would sometimes make and illustrate some for friends as an adult. Previously, Bielli was a teacher until she moved on from that job in 2020 during the pandemic, and the opportunity to illustrate this book came up in the fall. “I felt like I wasn’t being efficient as a teacher,” Bielli said. “So I got a call from the author in the fall and it felt like the perfect timing.” The book is published through Crave Press, which is a start up publisher, Bielli said, that also happens to be located in the same area — Berks County, Pa. — as the book’s author, Margie Peterson. Peterson happened to be doing freelance writing on Crave Press at the time and sent in the idea for the book to the publisher, who then accepted it. Peterson and Bielli were friends for a while and she reached out to Bielli to ask about illustrating it. Bielli agreed to illustrate, saying that she thought many people could relate to the book. “I think it’s very relatable for people,” Bielli said. “There’s a hoarder in every house. I did things like that. My kids did things like that.” In her illustrations Bielli added items that stood out to her and that she thought would stand out to others. Two examples are a headless superhero toy, and a chicken which would now be a vintage toy that comes out around Easter, that the main character, Tommy, kept way past Easter. The chicken makes an appearance in every illustration except for one. At the end of the book Bielli also added a hidden picture page on the second to last page, and a discussion questions page that asks questions both about things in the story and the art, on the last page. Bielli said that parents often are interested and able to find items on the hidden picture page as well. “During some readings that I’ve done the parents and grandparents will bring their kids in and the kids will be able to find one group of items and the parents and grandparents a different group,” Bielli said. “It is usually the same group every time too. It’s a universal thing, which is super interesting.” Since the publishing of “The Boy Who Never Threw Anything Out” Bielli has had many people reach out to her through social media or other ways asking for copies or with ideas for their own children’s book. Currently in the works with Bielli is “Henry Didn’t Listen” and “Norton, Newton, and the Nose Fairy”. Peterson is considering also doing another book on Tommy’s younger brother. Bielli said that she had a lot of fun working on this project with Peterson, and that she was very easy to work with. “I had fun,” Bielli said. “I learned a lot about my own work ethic. (Peterson) was a great cheerleader and supporter. Her vision was very clear and I had a lot of freedom. She was overall great to work with. I illustrated and worked for newspapers for a long time, but I haven’t gotten to do something like this before.” Bielli also makes semi-annual trips to the area, and hopes to return in May to do some potential readings at Chautauqua Institution. “The Boy Who Never Threw Anything Out” is available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indie Books, and other bookstores. Brands Explore Their Heritage In The Metaverse At NYFW – Jing Daily https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/brands-explore-their-heritage-in-the-metaverse-at-nyfw-jing-daily/ Tommy Hilfiger made great strides into Web3 this season with its KOL-stacked Fall 2023 “Tommy Factory” show featuring a crossover with Richard Quinn and a phygital runway with Roblox. More than just a step into the metaverse, the collaborations were a means of diversifying the brand and entering markets outside of its heritage. Tommy hosted a livestream of its NYFW show on Roblox. Photo: Roblox Luxury players are not just preserving their provenance by using blockchain technologies; they are leveraging Web3 to collaborate, build, and gamify with a global community. In this ever-evolving tech landscape, it is key for brands to genuinely engage with their audiences, show transparency, champion consistency, and teach their narrative.  Vivienne Tam is another label that brought her global heritage to the metaverse at New York Fashion Week, partnering with NFT names like Gemini’s Awkward Astronauts, CyberKongz, and Bored Ape Yacht Club. When asked about the PFP (profile picture) NFTs in her latest collection, Tam stated, “The future isn’t a faraway destination. It’s here today. At a time of global rebirth I wanted to incorporate some of my friends and brands that were shaping the metaverse, NFTs, and finance technology.” Outside of NYFW, Tam is also creating NFTs for the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) 60th anniversary, where she has been a member for over 20 years. “They are always breaking boundaries and bringing in more and more diverse perspectives. My thought is to bring harmony in a Mandala pattern that helps center the NFTs in a new spirit and way,” she added. Genuine collaborations like these that bring heritage and history into the digital landscape are essential in educating and inspiring a wider online audience. This is why the CFDA’s anniversary project is a perfect opportunity for creatives: the virtual exhibition, titled “Fashioning the Shades of American Design,” will include 60 curated looks from CFDAs member roster, which includes more than 450 designers. Among those chosen are Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Anna Sui, Thom Browne, and The Row.  The ability to innovate is at the core of what makes NYFW an important staple on the fashion calendar. In these early days of molding and forming what our digital identity looks like, brands are adding real-life applications to NFTs to enhance the luxury experience for their customers. For example, The Blonds, ALTU by Joseph Altuzarra, Kim Shui, AnOnlyChild, and Jonathan Simkhai teamed up with Afterpay to create NFT keys that grant access to runway shows, afterparties, and opportunities to meet the designers. Afterpay partnered with five notable designers to offer NFT keys that unlock IRL access to New York Fashion Week. Photo: Afterpay To gain customer loyalty, brands must create immersive experiences and build communities around them. However, follow-through is key: in the case of Afterpay’s NFT keys, some buyers did not receive the experience they were promised. As one Afterpay NFT key holder, Janey Park, a Web3 content creator and strategy consultant, complained: “I attended the Kim Shui show where holders were asked to RSVP twice, given standing room (no seat assignments), waited in line for 45 minutes, and found out the show ended when others in line came back to tell us.” “The opportunity here was missed,” she continued. “For NYFW, Afterpay, and Kim Shui as well as the other designers, this was a customer acquisition opportunity to usher in the new wave of Web3 and be the first to onboard or even build a relationship with Web3 enthusiasts for the years to come.” The Web3 community is still very cautious of who enters the space and how they will treat users at large. Brands that promise one thing and deliver another will have a very short shelf life with the speed of information online. This is not saying there is no room for error, but that transparency and consistency are the real keys to digital success.  While NYFW goes through growing pains, its outlook is brighter than ever. On top of showcasing collaboration, inclusion, and diversity, it has laid the foundation for brands entering a phygital world. Luxury houses are looking to the future with learned lessons from the past, and are embracing this new global experiment where anything is possible.

Derby Slimmer Loses 11 Stone After Sleep Problems Almost Killed Her – Derbyshire Live https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/derby-slimmer-loses-11-stone-after-sleep-problems-almost-killed-her-derbyshire-live/ A disabled Derby woman, who once weighed in at nearly 24 stone, has shed nearly half her body weight in just 18 months. Before her weight loss, Charlie Eaton says she had “zero confidence” and even avoided appearing in group photos at her brother’s wedding in case she “ruined them”. Back in 2018, Charlie suffered from “dangerously bad” sleep apnoea due to her weight, and one consultant even told her he was surprised she was still alive. Severe is classed as having between 30 and 50 apnoeas an hour, but she was having more than 100 an hour, with each one lasting up to 30 seconds. Sleep apnoea is when your breathing stops and starts while you sleep. This was the turning point, as Charlie knew she had to act quickly before it was too late. The 38-year-old remembered some of the struggles she faced while tipping the scales as 23st 8lbs, and recalled the moment she realised her eating habits had to drastically change. Read more: Get the latest stores about people from Derbyshire Live She said: “My weight affected every aspect of my life, I had zero confidence and just wanted to hide, to be invisible. I stopped seeing friends and family as I was ashamed of how I looked. It stopped me from getting jobs in the past. “I always wore black so I could blend in and hide. Even at my brother’s wedding, I was so incredibly proud and it was the most magical day, but I spent the whole time trying to avoid the cameras as I didn’t want their forever photos being ruined because I was in them. “Before I mostly ate takeaways, shop-bought sandwiches, processed ‘whack them in the oven’ no-effort kind of meals as cooking for one seemed pointless. “I had dangerously bad sleep apnoea, and was having over 100 an hour and each one was lasting up to 30 seconds. The consultant told me it was so extreme he was surprised I was still alive, let alone able to string a sentence together.” Charlie Eaton is pictured at her brother’s wedding, where she did her best to avoid group photos, in case she ‘ruined them’ (Image: Charlie Eaton) Charlie says doctors told her she would be unable to lose enough weight independently and needed to have a gastric sleeve fitted. Despite being offered an operation, she was reluctant to go under the knife because of her hypermobile-type Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), which causes her to have very flexible joints, as well as stretchy and fragile skin. Explaining why she turned it down, she said: “Because hEDS comes with surgical complications and poor wound healing I was too scared to have the operation.” Charlie, who also suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), instead decided to give slimming one last try, joining Jackie’s Oakwood Slimming World group in April 2018. She lost 7.5lbs in her first week, seven stone in her first seven months, and 10 stone in 18 months, before gradually reaching and maintaining her total 11st 5lbs weight loss over the past year or so. Detailing some of the biggest alterations she’s made to her eating habits, Charlie said: “I have a big appetite and I’m a huge carb fan so my favourite meals are anything involving pasta like spag bol, lasagne and carbonara. “With the hEDS and MS, cooking is very painful, but then I’m in pain all the time anyway so I thought I might as well do something productive and give it a try. So I made the decision to make a real effort and started cooking from scratch. I’ve now got lots of gadgets and gismos that make cooking a little easier as well as buying pre-chopped frozen onions and garlic, so there’s less effort and less time spent cooking. Back in 2018, Charlie weighed in at nearly 24 stone. Here, she is pictured before her weight loss journey began. (Image: Charlie Eaton) “On a good day I’ll batch cook a lasagne or a Bolognese and freeze individual portions so that even when I’m in agony or my left side is paralysed then I’m still able to stick to my plan and just pop something healthy in the microwave and whack it on the plate with some salad.” Despite eating much healthier and cutting out the takeaways, Charlie says she still regularly enjoys treats like burgers and chips and a bar of chocolate. She said: “I still eat chocolate most days, sometimes high fibre bars, burger and chips, fish fingers, even homemade KFC toasted twister meals. “I save most of my syns for my sweet fix. I love a good pudding and have one every evening so I never feel deprived. I ‘slimify’ my favourites like tiramisu, profiteroles, eclairs and even cheesecakes.” Thanks to her weight loss, Charlie today weighs in at 12st 3lbs and her apnoea has now been cured. But due to her hEDS and MS, she’s not been able to work for five years. Her confidence has seen a massive boost, and she now loves wearing bright clothes. Charlie is however looking to enlist the help of a TV fashion expert to help her transition from wearing darker clothes more smoothly. How Charlie Eaton’s old jeans and new leggings compare as she transitions from wearing dark to much brighter colours. She is still however hoping to get some help and expertise from TV’s Gok Wan. (Image: Charlie Eaton) She joked: “This is a shameless public plea for help from Gok Wan. I’m still struggling because I’ve only ever worn black and baggy so I have no idea what colours or styles suit me. “I always hated clothes because ‘big girl shops’ were never fashionable/cool and I’d only choose clothes on how well they’d hide my belly. Now I can grab anything out of my wardrobe, whatever I fancied rather than whatever hid me the best. “I’m more confident now, I used to be absolutely silent in the group but now they can’t shut me up, no matter how hard they try. “Fatigue and pain are a constant in my life, that’ll never change, but I don’t get out of breath anymore. I still have to pace myself, especially with the MS and transverse myelitis (when that flares up my left side becomes paralysed), but I’m now able to do more physio than ever before and that’s really helping.” She will become a Slimming World consultant early next month, starting two groups in the city suburb of Spondon. She is looking for new members to join her at 4.30pm and 6pm every Thursday at the Old School from October 6 onwards. Charlie added: “Groups are integral, the other members are always there when things are tough, if you have a gain or maintain they help lift you up and spur you on. We’ve all been there and had the same struggles with weight and food, it really is like a family. Charlie Eaton shows off her new figure after slimming down to 12st 3lbs (Image: Charlie Eaton) “Not just help with weight loss, the group helped me with the big scary life stuff too, group and especially my consultant Jackie have helped me come to terms with using my mobility aids. “They were with me when I started using crutches and they were with me when I first needed to use my wheelchair. No judgement or pity, just love and support. My group helped me to accept me for being me – wheels and all. “I’m so excited that I have the opportunity to become a consultant myself. I can’t wait to help other members achieve their goals – not just to reach their target weight but to overcome those life hurdles and to grow in confidence, just as I have.” READ NEXT How you can leave your tributes to the Queen in our online book of condolence Meet the people at the Derby newsagents which has traded in city for 170 years Derbyshire mum loses five stone to halve dress size River Island reopens as huge ‘River Studios’ in UK first at Derbion Look inside Derby city centre’s new gym and fitness shop

Australian Fish Fossils Get To The Heart Of Vertebrate Evolution The Indian Express
Australian Fish Fossils Get To The Heart Of Vertebrate Evolution – The Indian Express https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/australian-fish-fossils-get-to-the-heart-of-vertebrate-evolution-the-indian-express/ The researchers on Thursday described the heart, the organ that pumps blood through the body’s circulatory system, in fish called placoderms that inhabited a tropical reef about 380 million years ago during the Devonian Period. (Illustrative image) (Image credit: Pixabay) Scientists in Australia have unearthed beautifully preserved fossilized hearts and other internal organs of ancient armored fish in a discovery that provides insight into the evolution of the bodies of vertebrates – including humans. The researchers on Thursday described the heart, the organ that pumps blood through the body’s circulatory system, in fish called placoderms that inhabited a tropical reef about 380 million years ago during the Devonian Period. The fossils were 250 million years older than any previously known fish heart. The fossilized liver, stomach and intestine from these placoderms helped give a fuller view of the internal anatomy at a pivotal time in the history of vertebrates – backboned animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. The fossils were found in a locale called the Gogo Formation in Western Australia’s Kimberley region near the town of Fitzroy Crossing. They are remarkable because soft tissue, unlike hard stuff such as bones and teeth, is rarely preserved as fossils and even less often preserved in a robust three dimensions, as these are, rather than flattened. “The site is without a doubt one of the world’s most important fossil sites for understanding the early evolution of backboned animals, including the origins of the human body plan,” said vertebrate paleontologist Kate Trinajstic of Curtin University and the Western Australian Museum, lead author of the study published in the journal Science. Placoderms, known for bony armor on the head and neck, represented “our earliest jawed ancestors,” Trinajstic said. The newly described fossils are of two species, named Compagopiscis croucheri and Incisoscutum ritchiei, both about 10 inches (25 cm) long with shark-like asymmetrical tail fins, jaws bearing teeth and blade-like cutting edges, and broad, blunt-nosed heads. The placoderms had an S-shaped heart similar to that of a shark. It was made up of two chambers, with a smaller one on top and a larger one underneath, and was located at the front of the shoulder girdle in a similar position to sharks and bony fish today. Its structure differs from later vertebrates. Amphibians and reptiles have a three-chambered heart, while mammals and birds have a four-chambered heart. In land vertebrates, which evolved from fish during the Devonian, the heart has moved further back along the body – or down from the perspective of upright humans. If a person’s heart was in the same place as these placoderms, it would be at the base of the throat between the collar bones. The placoderm liver was large and enabled the fish to remain buoyant, as in sharks. The liver showed how placoderms had evolved away from the organ arrangement of jawless fish. In jawless fish called lampreys, the liver is squashed against the heart and envelops it from behind. The placoderms displayed a heart-liver separation like modern jawed vertebrates. The placoderm stomach, shaped like a flattened and somewhat rectangular bag, has a distinctive wall texture, thick and honeycombed, apparently representing glandular tissue. The intestine has spiral valves to help with food absorption. There was no evidence of lungs. The single biggest step in the evolution of vertebrates was the transition from the ancestral jawless condition, reflected in modern lampreys and hagfish, to the jawed vertebrate body plan, said paleontologist and study co-author Per Ahlberg of the University of Uppsala in Sweden. “Today, the overwhelming majority of vertebrates belong to the jawed group: sharks, rays, bony fishes and all land vertebrates including humans. This transition didn’t just involve the evolution of jaws, but also all kinds of changes in the soft anatomy – for example the evolution of a stomach, and the heart moving forward into the throat region,” Ahlberg said. “But while fossils give us a reasonably complete picture of the evolution of the skeleton, the equally important soft organs usually don’t fossilize at all, which means that we are left guessing about the details of their evolutionary transformation,” Ahlberg added.

Therefore, if this (Gaming Act) is scrapped then our youth can play and there will be no regulation.” Revealing that the revenue from royalty has dropped from ₹600 crore to ₹100 crore, the chief minister reasoned that the intention of the government is to have a gaming zone to bring in revenue to the state. “We want to balance this entire process and ensure ₹500- ₹600 crore revenue and also protect the people from different activities. Hence, we thought of having a gaming zone at the border area so that our people are nowhere close to it. With that intention we went ahead with the process,” he said. Elaborating on the progress of the online gaming process, Sangma said since January this year, eight parties have applied for licenses for establishing casinos of which only three were given provisional licenses in March valid for 6 months. The process stopped after church leaders in May met him to express their strong concern at the possibility of such activities being permitted. “I told the church forum that it is never the intention to bring the casinos to Shillong but in an area close to Guwahati,” he said. “I told the church leaders that there is no question of going ahead with this (establishing of casinos) without taking people on board. When I met the NGOs I told them the same thing that I had already committed to the church leaders that from May till this month, we have not taken any steps forward,” Sangma said. “We are here to work with the people of the state and it is the duty of the government to listen to the people,” he added. He informed the House that all processes were put to a stop after the opposition to it and the applications of the five applicants have been stopped and no provisional licenses have been issued.

Misfits Played Walk Among Us And More Classics At Riot Fest 2022 (Review Videos) Brooklyn Vegan
Misfits Played ‘Walk Among Us’ And More Classics At Riot Fest 2022 (Review, Videos) – Brooklyn Vegan https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/misfits-played-walk-among-us-and-more-classics-at-riot-fest-2022-review-videos-brooklyn-vegan/ One day after My Chemical Romance headlined Riot Fest day one, a previous generation’s gothy NJ punk band headlined the second night (9/17), the Misfits. “The Original Misfits” — Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle with second guitarist Acey Slade and former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo — began their reunion at Riot Fest Denver and Chicago in 2016, and their return six years later was extra special, as this time they were playing Walk Among Us in full for its 40th anniversary. The album play meant they did some songs they haven’t played yet in the six years they’ve been reunited — including “Nike-A-Go-Go,” “Hatebreeders,” and “Braineaters” — and it was a real treat to hear this classic, timeless, and insanely influential album played from start to finish. There were times when it felt like Danzig’s vocals were too low in the mix, and some of the longer gaps between songs messed with the flow a little bit, but for the most part, the Misfits sounded great. They were loud and in-your-face, and Dave Lombardo’s expert drumming gives them an even stronger backbone than they had on the original Walk Among Us record. The visual aspect is over-the-top and awesome too, including two giant jack-o-lanterns on either side of the stage, a stack of amp cases in the back with the Misfits skull on every one, a screen projecting Misfits logos and artwork, and Jerry and Doyle decked out in devilocks, face paint, costumes, and matching ghoulish guitars and basses (many of which Jerry broke). It was exactly the kind of presentation that songs like “Skulls” and “Devil’s Whorehouse” require. Even when there were moments when Danzig seemed low in the mix, it didn’t really matter, ’cause the crowd was yelling back just about everything, especially all the anthemic refrains that Walk Among Us is chock full of. It’s pretty amazing to see an album that technically birthed no hit songs get performed and received as if it was a greatest hits set, especially on those tracks that have rarely or never been played by reunion-era Misfits. It’s also just amazing how fresh these songs still sound. The Misfits have been such a core influence on countless bands that have played Riot Fest over the years, including the previous day’s humungous headliners, and especially on Walk Among Us — which is a little less ’50s-inspired than the band’s earlier material and a little more of a direct precursor to the punk boom of the ’90s and 2000s — they sound like a band that could’ve existed much more recently than 1982. And that this 40th anniversary performance was exclusive to Riot Fest made it even more special. It’s one of those one-of-a-kind festival appearances that’s truly worth traveling for. After Walk Among Us ended, the Misfits did another 12 classics (two-song encore included), from early faves like “Bullet,” “Hybrid Moments,” “Some Kinda Hate,” “Halloween,” “Last Caress,” “Horror Business,” and “We Are 138” to Earth A.D. cuts like “Die, Die My Darling” and the title track. Some of Danzig’s stage banter could be eyeroll-inducing, like when he doubled down on recent remarks and insinuated that a song like “Die, Die My Darling” couldn’t come out today because of “cancel culture,” but those moments were brief and overshadowed by the power of the songs. Those early Misfits songs are embedded in punk’s DNA at this point, and being in a festival crowd that was yelling every word to them was as awesome as you’d hope. China Values Relationship With UN Despite Human Rights Criticism – Business Standard https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/china-values-relationship-with-un-despite-human-rights-criticism-business-standard/ As world leaders gather in New York at the annual UN General Assembly, rising superpower China is also focusing on another United Nations body that is meeting across the Atlantic Ocean in Geneva Topics United Nations | UN General Assembly | China AP  |    Last Updated at September 18, 2022 10:10 IST As world leaders gather in New York at the annual UN General Assembly, rising superpower China is also focusing on another United Nations body that is meeting across the Atlantic Ocean in Geneva. Chinese diplomats are speaking out and lobbying others at an ongoing session of the Human Rights Council to thwart a possible call for further scrutiny of what it calls its anti-extremism campaign in Xinjiang, following a UN report on abuses against Uyghurs and other largely Muslim ethnic groups in the western China border region. The concurrent meetings, on opposite sides of the Atlantic, illustrate China’s divided approach to the United Nations and its growing global influence. Beijing looks to the UN, where it can count on support from countries it has befriended and in many cases assisted financially, as a counterweight to U.S.-led blocs such as the Group of Seven, which have grown increasingly hostile toward China. China sees the UN as an important forum that it can use to further its strategic interests and goals, and to reform the global order, said Helena Legarda from the Mercator Institute for China Studies in Berlin. While holding up the United Nations as a model of multilateralism, China rejects criticism or decisions that the ruling Communist Party sees as counter to its interests. Its diplomats struck back at the report published last month by the U.N. human rights office raising concerns about possible crimes against humanity in Xinjiang vowing to suspend cooperation with the office and blasting what it described as a Western plot to undermine China’s rise. China had pushed hard to block the report on Xinjiang, delaying its release for more than a year. In the end, the information did come out but just minutes before embattled U.N. human rights chief Michelle Bachelet left office. Like the United States, China feels a certain freedom to ignore U.N. institutions when it wants: The Trump administration pulled the U.S. out of the Human Rights Council in 2018, accusing it of anti-Israel bias. The Biden administration jumped back in this year, and has made a priority of defending Israel in the 47-member-state body. Also like the United States, China leverages its influence to get its way effectively stymieing an investigation by the U.N.’s World Health Organization into whether China was the birthplace of the coronavirus pandemic. Ken Roth, the former executive director of Human Rights Watch, said Chinese President Xi Jinping is trying to redefine what human rights are, in part by casting economic development as a key criterion. China, Roth said, more than any government in the past, is trying to undermine the U.N. human rights system by pressuring U.N. officials, retaliating against witnesses and trying to bribe governments. “One of their top priorities right now maybe after Taiwan is to avoid condemnation by the Human Rights Council, Roth said. The self-governing island of Taiwan is claimed by China as its sovereign territory, an issue that the Beijing government is vociferous about internationally. Shi Yinhong, an international relations expert at Renmin University in China, said advocating for the U.N.’s role in maintaining the international order doesn’t mean that China agrees with every U.N. body, citing the COVID-19 origins study and the recent Xinjiang report. When the UN high commissioner for human rights issues such a report, in the eyes of China, it is the same as all organizations in the world, no matter official or private, that defames China, Shi said. But China doesn’t want its pique toward the rights office, which falls under UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, to spill over to its deepening relationship with other parts of the world body that deal with refugees, climate, the internet, satellites, world hunger, atomic weapons, energy and much more. China wields power as one of the five veto-holding members of the Security Council, helping it build relationships with the United States and others who needed China’s support for past resolutions on Iran and North Korea. That influence has diminished somewhat with the overall deterioration of U.S.-China ties, Shi said. Subsequently, both China and Russia vetoed a U.S.-backed resolution in May to impose new sanctions on North Korea. Under Xi, who came to power 10 years ago, China has expanded its UN involvement from primarily international development early on to political, peace and security issues, Legarda said. She noted how China has had its concepts and language worked into UN resolutions and used the U.N. system to promote a Global Development Initiative proposed by Xi in a video address to last year’s General Assembly. This is a reflection of China’s more assertive and ambitious foreign policy under Xi, Legarda said. China has stepped into a diplomatic void created by a lack of U.S. leadership, said Daniel Warner, a Geneva-based political analyst. Former President Donald Trump shunned many international institutions, Warner said, and successor Joe Biden has been preoccupied with domestic issues. Chinese hold the top jobs at three of the U.N.’s 18 specialized agencies: the Food and Agricultural Organization, the Industrial Development Organization and the International Telecommunications Union, where the United States has put up a candidate to succeed outgoing chief Houlin Zhao. A Chinese official headed the International Civil Aviation Organization until last year. For China, it’s a matter of prestige as well as influence, Warner said. The United States and the Western countries were very much involved in the initial United Nations, he said. China doesn’t want to have that kind of leadership. They’re not talking about liberal values, but they want to make sure that their interests are defended in the U.N. system. Chinese diplomats spearheaded a joint statement which it said was backed by 30 countries including Russia, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela that blasted disinformation behind the U.N. report on Xinjiang and the erroneous conclusions drawn in it. And China’s ambassador in Geneva said Beijing could no longer cooperate with the human rights office without specifying how. Sarah Brooks, a China expert at the International Society for Human Rights advocacy group in Geneva, said China could hold up its funding for the office which lately has come in at $800,000 a year, far less than Western countries that give tens of millions. Still, Brooks said it would be a huge blow if funding from China were to stop, in part because many countries appreciate and support the causes that Beijing helps pay for. The optics of it are really damaging, she said. You have a country that says, Hi, I want to be responsible, but I’m so thin-skinned … I’m still going to lash out at the organization that drafted it. Coach Mario Cristobal settled for a 34-yard field goal from Andres Borregales to make it an eight-point game. But the Aggies defense held strong on three straight runs, and Andres Borregales hit a 22-yard field goal to cut the lead to 11. I’m very surprised at Miami’s play-calling inside the 10-yard line and, more importantly, its decision to settle for three points instead of going for it on fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Miami might not get more opportunities like that, and coach Mario Cristobal might look back and regret that decision when all is said and done. Pinned Achane with the moves! How Technology Can Save Fast-Disappearing Beauty Of Valley Of Flowers In Uttarakhand News18
How Technology Can Save Fast-Disappearing Beauty Of Valley Of Flowers In Uttarakhand News18
How Technology Can Save ‘Fast-Disappearing’ Beauty Of Valley Of Flowers In Uttarakhand – News18 https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/how-technology-can-save-fast-disappearing-beauty-of-valley-of-flowers-in-uttarakhand-news18/ Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand (Bhaswati/News18) Technology can surely help monitor the progression of shrub intrusion into the meadows. The use of drones is a good tool to monitor land use changes or monitor various biotic pressures, according to an expert. The Valley of Flowers National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site Uttarakhand’s Valley of Flowers National Park is a popular destination especially for trekkers who want to experience the beauty of the Himalayan ranges for the first time. That is why the trek to the valley is also called the “Beginner’s Trek”. The Valley of Flowers National Park, which covers an area of 87 square kilometres in the Chamoli district, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the two core zones of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. However, the description on some websites and the pictures of the valley on Google may look like “heavenly” and some sort of “floral fairy-tale”. But, in reality, it may not be dreamy as it is claimed. The Beauty and The Beast? Situated at an altitude of around 11,500 feet above sea level, the Valley of Flowers is believed to be discovered in 1931 by British mountaineers who lost their way and accidentally ended up being in the valley. The journey begins from a town called Poolna. Trekkers have to cover 13-15 kilometres to reach a small village encircled by mountains known as Ghangaria, following a well-defined trail that passes through the lush green forest alongside the Lakshman Ganga River. At Ghangaria, there are small hotels without air-conditioned rooms and none of these have ceiling fans because of the comfortable to extremely low temperature. However, from Ghangaria, trekkers have to cover almost 4 km of distance, following the narrow trail to reach the Valley of Flowers, enjoying the stream that flows all the way through the valley. It is noteworthy that in Ramayana, Hanuman is said to have brought the magical herb that was used to resuscitate Lakshman from this valley. According to the Uttarakhand Tourism website, the variety of exotic flowers (over 600 species) such as orchids, poppies, primulas, marigold, saxifrages, sedums, lilies and daisies can be seen between the months of May and October, though the maximum abundance of flowers can be found from July to September. When asked about the perfect time to witness the breath-taking beauty of the full-bloomed valley, a young trek guide said it doesn’t matter when the trekkers are planning to visit the valley, such beauty cannot be seen anymore. He said: “Before people reach Valley of Flowers, they are told that they should not pluck or touch any flower and most importantly they are not supposed to leave the designated trail. But hardly anyone keeps these instructions in mind.” According to him, such insensitive actions by the trekkers are affecting the germination process and causing a decline in the flower varieties in the valley. “Earlier this year, when I visited Valley of Flowers with a trekking team, I noticed some varieties which were at their early stage of growth. But these are neither growing at the supposed speed nor can be seen as a majority out there due to continuous human interference,” the trek guide added. While explaining further, he also talked about how the natural inhabitants are also being affected by these issues. So, he believes that if the government closes the national park for at least 3-4 years it may help the overall valley and provide enough time for different types of flowers to grow. Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand (Photo: Bhaswati/ News18) The Scientific Fact News18 spoke to environmentalist Maharaj K. Pandit, Professor at the Department of Environmental Studies, University of Delhi, to understand the scientific reason behind the decline of flowers in the valley. He said: “For any change to be scientifically monitored it cannot be based on anecdotal evidence. Besides, what is the baseline of flora and fauna from where it has declined. About three decades back similar voices were heard that invasive species have overtaken the Valley.” Prof Pandit said there were equivocal explanations for why such a change had occurred, primarily in plant species, and there was no documentation of faunal change in this or that way. “I am rather amused how Google images can show floral blooms in the Valley of Flowers,” he added. Prof Pandit then said: “The floral dynamics, in particular over the last half a century is the result of rapidly changing climate as a result of which more shrubby species are invading in an otherwise herbaceous alpine meadow.” “Our studies have clearly shown intrusion of shrublands into the Himalayan meadows as a result of which the floral transformation may have occurred,” he noted. When asked whether the suggestion given by the trek guide about closing the valley for a few years would help, Prof Pandit said given the impact of changing climate, “how can regulating human visitations or closing it for the public could help?” Rather, he suggested more regulatory mechanisms and penalties in case violations take place. Technology’s Role From health to space, technological advancements have played a major role in terms of finding solutions to previously unsolved issues. News18 asked the environment expert whether technology can help the valley bring its mesmerizing beauty back. Prof Pandit said: “Technology can surely help monitor the progression of shrub intrusion into the meadows. The use of drones is a good tool to monitor land use changes or monitor various biotic pressures. Beyond that, I can’t see what else technology is supposed to deliver.” News18 reached out to drone manufacturing leaders in India to find out whether such unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can help to restore the beauty of the valley and how. Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, which is one of the beneficiaries of the PLI scheme for drones, said: “The idea is excellent and Garuda Aerospace has been pioneers in the precision agriculture Kisan Drones that have been deployed across the country to monitor & analyse the ecological impact in our environment.” It should be noted that Garuda Aerospace has completed the mapping and digitisation of land records of over 7,000 villages of Uttar Pradesh under the Centre’s Svamitva scheme. However, Jayaprakash said: “Garuda Aerospace has now commenced processing the data while also exploring embedding AI &; ML features which will not only help in monitoring but will support scientists, biological experts and government officials make informed decisions to preserve ecological balance in the environment.” Meanwhile, Vishal Saurav, CEO and Founder of VFLYX India, one of the top players in the UAV industry said the use of Drone-Based Data Acquisition, which involves multiple flights over the vegetation for observation and data analysis, can accomplish two primary goals. According to him, the first is “using a photogrammetry process chain, the entire area can be mapped in ortho-mosaics, providing a birds-eye perspective of the terrain and giving an in-depth understanding of the vegetation and plant’s health in detail.” “Secondly, a high-end drone equipped with a high-resolution camera and image-processing software like PIX4d make this possible to calculate both the plant population and density in a particular region,” Saurav noted. The Biggest Gaming News For September 17, 2022 – TheGamer https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-biggest-gaming-news-for-september-17-2022-thegamer/ Here we are at the weekend after five days of solid work. You’ve probably been playing Splatoon 3 or whatever since getting up this afternoon, so you’ve most likely gotten behind on everything that’s been going on in the world of gaming, but don’t worry because I’ve got you covered. Today, we heard about how Respawn boss Vince Zampella thinks EA strayed too far with Battlefield 2042, Nintendo confirmed the correct pronunciation of Tears of the Kingdom, and Cyberpunk 2077 has been experiencing a revival. These are just our top stories and so read on for the rest. EA Strayed “Too Far From What Battlefield Is” Says Respawn Boss Vince Zampella Battlefield 2042 came out to rather mixed reviews last year. We’ve heard quite a bit about the game’s troubled release in the meantime, but now Respawn boss Vince Zampella has gone on the record with some rather poignant remarks. “I think they just strayed a little too far from what Battlefield is,” the developer pointed out. “They tried to do a couple of things that were maybe ambitious and grow the player count. I don’t think they spent enough time iterating on what makes that fun.” Zampella went on to say that “it’s not inherently a bad idea. The way they were set up and the way they executed just didn’t allow them to find the best thing possible.” Microsoft Is “Going To Remain Active” On Acquisitions To Compete With Tencent And Sony Microsoft recently made a huge acquisition with Activision Blizzard, but the company apparently has no plans of slowing down, let alone stopping. According to Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer, Microsoft is “going to remain active” on acquisitions in order to compete with Tencent and Sony, both of which are giants in the games industry. “This is such a competitive market, I don’t think we get to press pause on anything,” Spencer said. “Tencent is the largest gaming company on the planet today and they continue to heavily invest in gaming content and game creators.” Nintendo Confirms How The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Is Pronounced Nintendo has finally explained how players should pronounce Tears of the Kingdom. According to the developer, this would be tears like raindrops, not tears like holes in clothing. This of course comes after several days worth of confusion about the matter from fans of the franchise. As you might expect, the community wound up speculating wildly about the sort of content they might come across in the game, all of which is now effectively baseless. Oh, well. Cyberpunk 2077 Player Count More Than Triples After New Update, Anime Release Cyberpunk 2077 has been languishing ever since the game’s rocky release a couple of years ago. The developer behind the game, CD Projekt, has on the other hand never given up hope. This appears to have been well founded given that its player count on Steam has more than tripled ever since the spinoff anime called Edgerunners came out. The game is currently more popular on PC than Rainbow Six Siege, Stardew Valley, Elden Ring, Rocket League, and more. Konami Developers Hope To “Keep Making More Suikoden Games In The Future” Players have been waiting for another Suikoden game for years, but now they might finally have something to look forward to in the future. The first couple of games in the series are of course being remastered, but there could be another sequel on the horizon. “I can’t say anything specific right now, but we didn’t really want to have an end with just the remaster,” developer at Konami Yasuo Daikai said. “I would really like to keep making more Suikoden games in the future. So, we hope all of our fans will root for us and support us and we hope that we can deliver on those promises and you guys can enjoy them.” NEXT: Inventory Tetris: A Love Story

Cybersickness Could Spell An Early Death For The Metaverse The Daily Beast
Cybersickness Could Spell An Early Death For The Metaverse The Daily Beast
Cybersickness Could Spell An Early Death For The Metaverse – The Daily Beast https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/cybersickness-could-spell-an-early-death-for-the-metaverse-the-daily-beast/ Luis Eduardo Garrido couldn’t wait to test out his colleague’s newest creation. Garrido, a psychology and methodology researcher at Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic, drove two hours between his university’s campuses to try a virtual reality experience that was designed to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder and different types of phobias. But a couple of minutes after he put on the headset, he could tell something was wrong. “I started feeling bad,” Garrido told The Daily Beast. He was experiencing an unsettling bout of dizziness and nausea. He tried to push through but ultimately had to abort the simulation almost as soon as he started. “Honestly, I don’t think I lasted five minutes trying out the application,” he said. Garrido had contracted cybersickness, a form of motion sickness that can affect users of VR technology. It was so severe that he worried about his ability to drive home, and it took hours for him to recover from the mere five-minute simulation. Though motion sickness has afflicted humans for thousands of years, cybersickness is a much newer condition. While this means that many of its causes and symptoms are well-understood, other basic questions—like how common cybersickness is, and whether there are ways to fully prevent it—are only just starting to be studied. After Garrido’s brush with cybersickness, his colleague told him that he was in the minority and that only about 2 percent of people experience cybersickness. But at a presentation for prospective students, Garrido watched as volunteers from the audience walked to the front of an auditorium to demo a VR headset—only to return shakily to their seats. “I could see from afar that they were getting sweaty and kind of uncomfortable,” he recalled. “I said to myself, ‘Maybe I’m not the only one.’” As companies like Meta (née Facebook) make big bets that augmented reality and virtual reality technology will go mainstream, the tech industry is still trying to figure out how to better recruit users to the metaverse, and get them to stay once there. But experts worry that cybersickness could derail these plans for good unless developers find some remedies soon. “ Garrido watched as volunteers from the audience walked to the front of an auditorium to demo a VR headset—only to return shakily to their seats. ” The issue is actually something of a catch-22: In order to make VR more accessible and affordable, companies are making devices smaller and running them on less powerful processors. But these changes introduce dizzying graphics—which inevitably causes more people to experience cybersickness. At the same time, a growing body of research suggests cybersickness is vastly more pervasive than previously thought—perhaps afflicting more than half of all potential users. Proponents of a “headset in every home” vision for VR must make sure first-timers don’t leave the experience and lose their lunch. A buggy beta hits differently when it’s your health and comfort on the line. And depending on how long the effects of cybersickness last for an individual, VR technology may not be just uncomfortable for them, but literally unusable. “If people have this type of bad experience with something, they’re not going to try it again,” Garrido said. Thanks to VR, Charles Oman has seen Earth from the International Space Station. He’s watched the Emmy-nominated documentary Traveling While Black, which immerses viewers in the history of race relations and restricted movement for Black Americans, using VR to give viewers a first-hand glimpse at what the Black experience is like. But he wishes he could have shared these experiences and all that VR headsets have to offer with his wife. “She won’t wear the damn thing,” he told The Daily Beast. “She is very susceptible to motion sickness of all kinds, and she doesn’t like the dizziness and the uncertainty about orientation. And so getting over that hump, for her—she’s got better things to do. I think a lot of people are that way.” If anyone could offer a foolproof solution to motion sickness, it would be Oman: He has studied motion sickness at MIT for 50 years, and has seen the field tackle the condition first at sea, then in space, and now in the metaverse. Seasickness, space sickness, and cybersickness are all heads of the same hydra, caused when a person’s brain receives unexpected and conflicting signals. According to Oman, everytime the head moves, the brain anticipates how canals in the inner ear, the eyes, and other points in the body will respond and uses the feedback to rebalance. A mismatch between what the brain expects and what it gets causes symptoms of dizziness, nausea, cold sweats, pale skin, and fatigue. But what does that look like in practice? An illustrative example of this mismatch befell the Roman philosopher Seneca, which he described in a letter written in the first century AD. As he sailed across the Bay of Naples on a rocking vessel, his eyes gave him signals that he was stationary while his body told his brain otherwise. Distressed, he told the ship’s captain to drop him off anywhere, later writing “I was suffering too grievously to think of the danger, since a sluggish seasickness which brought no relief was racking me.” (He ended up diving out of the boat and swimming to shore.) “ Seasickness, space sickness, and cybersickness are all heads of the same hydra, caused when a person’s brain receives unexpected and conflicting signals. ” Before NASA took interest in motion sickness in the 1970s, belly binders and ludicrous diets were touted as potential cures. Since then, researchers have developed tried-and-true methods of preventing the condition—such as medication that weakens the mismatch signals received by the brain, and exercises that realign your body’s feedback systems (for example, looking out the windshield of a car instead of down at a phone). VR developers have taken some cues from these solutions. Some have introduced an artificial “horizon” in VR video that does seem to lower the severity of motion sickness—but unfortunately does not eliminate it completely. Most guidance recommends taking a 10 to 15-minute break every half hour to delay the onset of cybersickness, but these numbers have not been rigorously tested. For some, like Garrido, a short break is nowhere near enough time to recover. But was he an outlier? Once Garrido saw what happened at the demonstration for prospective students, he decided to conduct a study to see how common cybersickness really is. Scouring the literature, he couldn’t find a clear answer because of the size of most studies: “Many enroll 15, 20, 25 people,” he said. “Since I’m a math person, I knew these studies had all kinds of problems.” With sample sizes that small, there’s a chance that the participants enrolled do not give the full picture of the condition’s effects. So Garrido and his team decided to run their own study, recruiting 92 people to try the same VR program that first made him sick. In the VR experience, participants explored a 3D kitchen and public restroom, two environments that are commonly used in OCD therapy. They navigated around for 10 minutes with a joystick, a method of “transportation” that has fallen out of favor in VR game development in favor of simple point-and-click teleporting like in Google Maps’ Street View. (Garrido’s critics might contend the study is using obsolete tech, though it should be noted flight simulators and other applications that want to increase a user’s immersion will still employ a joystick, as it more closely mimics natural movement.) In sharp contrast to the 2 percent estimate Garrido had been told, the results from his study, published earlier this year, indicated that more than 65 percent of people experienced symptoms of cybersickness, over a third of whom experienced severe symptoms. Twenty-two participants decided to stop the simulation before the 10 minutes were up. These results should concern the developers of other VR applications, Garrido said, since the only movement in the simulations came from the users’ own actions (unlike, say, a roller coaster or flying experience). The experiences were designed to be tame. “You can think of our study as a baseline because our environments don’t do anything to cause cybersickness,” he said. “The general trend is that as time goes by, people will get worse. You need to know that if you are planning a 20-minute or longer immersion.” Cybersickness doesn’t just arise from the controls of a VR experience. It can be built into the fabric of hardware (individual headsets) and software (experiences, apps, and simulations). Kyle Ringgenberg, an AR and VR developer and the co-founder of software company Dimension X, said that there are two major sensory conflicts that lead to cybersickness in VR. The first is the same brain-body mismatch that leads to car and seasickness, but the second is a different physiological response—and potentially even harder to fix. When we look out at the world in front of us, our eyes automatically focus on an object based on its perceived distance from us. A VR headset projects images a set distance away from a viewer, but when a virtual object appears close, it may seem blurry since the person’s eyes are trying to focus on it as if it truly were. The combination of these two forms of cybersickness can lead to headaches for users and developers alike. “ If my iPhone doesn’t load a page instantly, I might grumble about it, but that’s the end of it. If my VR app stutters on me, I might physically get sick. That does keep people away from this technology. ” — Kyle Ringgenberg, Dimension X “If my iPhone doesn’t load a page instantly, I might grumble about it, but that’s the ...

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Review: Android’s Answer To Apple Watch SE – Gadgets Now https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-5-review-androids-answer-to-apple-watch-se-gadgets-now/ Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 runs Wear OS 3 and offers multiple fitness and health tracking features. The all-new Galaxy Watch 5 also comes with a temperature sensor which claims to measure the skin temperature and alert the user about the signs of fever. However, the feature is not very useful and is mainly a gimmick. Samsung also mentioned at the launch that the sensor will improve the overall performance of the smartwatch and that the company is working with the developers to find more particle usage of the technology. So, presently, the temperature sensor is not as useful as expected. As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 comes with OS 3 out of the box. The wear OS 3 works smoothly on the wearable and it also comes with new editions. For instance, now the Google Assistant is available on the smartwatch and it works smoothly. Samsung has also improved its sleep tracking software and now it uses colourful animals to represent different sleeping patterns. You will also receive a designated sleep animal and the Health app then sets you up with a four-week course. The course teaches you about the importance of good sleep and also how you can improve your sleeping patterns. With all these features onboard, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 offers a smooth user experience. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 works with the Samsung Health app which is not new to Galaxy smartwatch users. The app offers a neat, clean and simple user interface. It has a daily activity tracker which keeps track of your steps, activity time and calories burned. Same as its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 5 also comes with an array of sensors which include heart rate, blood pressure, ECG, body composition, stress tracking, SpO2 and snore detection. The wearable is designed to automatically track multiple workouts and offer a fairly accurate reading. The smartwatch also delivered correct data when we measured the heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels. The company has also included its famous BioActive sensor in the smartwatch. The sensor monitors your overall health by measuring your weight, skeletal muscle and BMI. Same as its predecessor, the feature works really well this time also. Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 comes with GPS tracking functionality. But we are not really impressed with it as it has to learn more in this department from the likes of Garmin. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 delivers a smooth performance which will be liked by many.

Billionaire Jeff Gundlach Discusses When To Buy Crypto — Warns Of Deflation Risk – Economics Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/billionaire-jeff-gundlach-discusses-when-to-buy-crypto-warns-of-deflation-risk-economics-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ Billionaire Jeffrey Gundlach, aka the Bond King, has shared his view on when to buy cryptocurrency. “You need a true Fed pivot,” he stressed. Gundlach also warned about the increasing risk of deflation, noting that it’s time to be bearish on the stock market. Jeffrey Gundlach on Fed Rate Hikes, U.S. Economy, and When to Buy Crypto The founder and chief executive of investment management firm Doubleline, Jeffrey Gundlach, shared his outlook on the U.S. economy, stock and bond markets, and when to buy crypto this week. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, Doubleline has over $107 billion in assets under management (AUM) as of June 30. In an interview with CNBC on the sidelines of the Future Proof conference Tuesday, the billionaire explained that it is too early to jump on the crypto bandwagon as the Federal Reserve is likely to raise more interest rates. Commenting on whether it is a good time to buy cryptocurrency under the current market conditions, Gundlach opined: I’d certainly not be a buyer today. Gundlach is sometimes known as the Bond King after he appeared on the cover of Barron’s in 2011 as “The New Bond King.” Institutional Investor named him “Money Manager of the Year” in 2013 and Bloomberg Markets ranked him one of “The Fifty Most Influential” in 2012, 2015, and 2016. He was inducted into the FIASI Fixed Income Hall of Fame in 2017. His net worth is currently about 2.2 billion. In the Tuesday interview, the billionaire stressed that the time to return to the crypto space would be when the Federal Reserve pivots from rate hikes and begins its “free money” policies. Citing the Federal Reserve’s hawkish stance and recession fears, Gundlach emphasized: I think you buy crypto when they do free money again … You need a true Fed pivot. He added that investors should not buy crypto when there are only “dreams” of a monetary policy pivot. The Doubleline CEO also cautioned about the increasing risk of deflation, seeing it as the key threat to the U.S. economy and markets. He explained that it is time for investors to become more bearish on U.S. stocks, noting that the S&P 500 could fall 20% by mid-October. “The action of the credit market is consistent with economic weakness and stock market trouble,” Gundlach described, elaborating: I think you have to start becoming more bearish. While admitting that stock picking is not his forte, he said: “You always want to own stocks, but I’m a little on the lighter side.” Nonetheless, he sees emerging markets as the biggest upcoming opportunity for equity investors. Citing the risk of deflation, he suggested that investors dive into long-term U.S. debt securities. “Buy long-term Treasurys,” he advised, emphasizing: The deflation risk is much higher today than it’s been for the past two years. Regarding the time frame, he clarified: “I’m not talking about next month. I’m talking about sometime later next year, certainly in 2023.” Recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also warned that a major Fed rate hike could lead to deflation, echoing the statement by Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood that “Leading inflation indicators like gold and copper are flagging the risk of deflation.” Tags in this story bond king, deflation, inflation, Jeff Gundlach, Jeff Gundlach crypto, Jeff Gundlach cryptocurrency, Jeff Gundlach deflation, Jeff Gundlach inflation, Jeff Gundlach recession, Jeff Gundlach stagflation, Jeff Gundlach stocks, Jeff Gundlach US economy, us economy deflation What do you think about the comments by billionaire Jeff Gundlach on deflation and when to buy crypto? Tips & Tricks To Always Stay Prepared While Travelling – Usatales.com – Usatales.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tips-tricks-to-always-stay-prepared-while-travelling-usatales-com-usatales-com/ There is no such thing as an inborn savvy traveler, and you will inevitably make a number of foolish mistakes in the first few months of your travels. But with time, you will start to get familiar with the processes and integrate yourself with the tricks and strategies you must know while traveling in a new place. Now, what if we speed up the process by helping you avoid those mistakes and prepare you like a smart traveler? From saving money and communicating with the locals to keeping travel insurance—there are plenty of smart tricks for you to follow in this article. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started! 1. Carrying a first-aid kit It is the first important thing that you need to carry while traveling. It’s true you will find modern medicines everywhere you go. But keeping a small first-aid kit with you will be a good decision. You can carry Band-Aids, antibacterial ointments, eyedrops, scissors, hydrocortisone cream, and some doctor-prescribed common drugs for stomach illness, headache, or antibiotics you may need in the case of any emergency. Carry the best multitool with you for the best results. 2. Keeping a reusable water bottle Well, it’s not like you will get lost in the desert or jungle. But it is always good to stay prepared all the time. Keeping a reusable water bottle and a filter comes with two benefits. First, it will save a good amount of money, and second, it will prevent the use of single-use plastics that ultimately ends up in the rivers, oceans, and lakes. Yeah, we need to keep our environment pollution-free also while traveling. 3. Keeping some cash We don’t carry money as ATM cards are around these days. And it’s pretty handy instead of keeping cash with you. But you must know that a small amount of money can protect you in an emergency. You might get stuck in the airport and find out your cards are not working. What will you do then? So, it is recommended to carry around USD 200 for emergency purposes. But never carry this amount of cash while traveling as you might get robbed or lose your wallet. Just leave the money in your hotel room and enjoy your traveling. 4. Studying the local language  Now don’t think that you need to learn a whole language. But learning small phrases like goodbye, thank you, good morning, and hello will help you make interaction easy with local people. Besides that, it will be helpful for you when you shop, order food or drinks, or need help from the locals. Another thing that you can apply is studying nonverbal communication. You can practice this by understanding the facial expressions of the people. It will help you a lot if you don’t know the local language. 5. Carrying copies of passport & other essential documents Getting robbed or losing the original copies of your passport and other important documents like travel or health insurance might fall you in a difficult situation. So, keeping digital copies of them is always a good idea while traveling. Keeping the copies will help you file police reports and get the new documents easily. 6. Keep in touch with your close ones It is necessary to stay in touch with your friends or family members when you go on a long holiday. There should be someone who knows about your itinerary and your plans. Also, keep them updated if you make any changes during your trip. But you might think it will be a hassle, but staying safe is the most important thing at the end of the day. Moreover, try to keep the emergency numbers on your mobile. If something happens to you, it will help medical professionals to contact the people you know. 7. Having the travel insurance Yeah, I think this is the most important thing you need when you prepare for a vacation. Keeping travel insurance is nothing but a blessing when you visit the hospital for getting sick on the road or breaking your leg in an accident. Obviously, nothing will happen to you, but it’s good to always stay in your comfort zone. How about a bonus tip for you? So, are you planning your vacation on a beautiful beach? Well, that’s good. But do you know about that area? Yes, gathering some information about the place is always a good idea before traveling there. Knowing etiquette and basic rules of an area will help you avoid misunderstandings you might face while traveling. How Will The Metaverse Change The Landscape Of Technology? Intelligent Living
How Will The Metaverse Change The Landscape Of Technology? – Intelligent Living https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/how-will-the-metaverse-change-the-landscape-of-technology-intelligent-living/ How significant is the influence of the metaverse? Will it change our habits and online activity significantly, or can it be incorporated into the current trajectory of tech development? The metaverse has the potential to be a game-changer, affecting everything from mobile slots to the latest virtual reality (VR) tech. Technically, we already have the technologies it needs to function, but the main issue holding it back is that many technologies don’t share a common platform. So, what is the metaverse, exactly? And which technologies need to be integrated for it to succeed? Defining the metaverse The metaverse allows its users to create a digital identity. Theoretically, this ‘avatar’ will be able to access any digital platform, regardless of which company owns it. It also allows users to transfer digital assets between these platforms with no restrictions. For this dream to become a reality, platform developers must embrace integration, which is a tough sell when you consider how competitive the tech industry is. As a basic example, let’s say you’re a metaverse user and you’re on a platform owned by a tech giant. You just bought a digital asset on that platform, like a car or a clothing item. In the current tech landscape, you would have to accept that your purchase could only be used on that specific platform. You wouldn’t be able to use that asset on another platform, and that’s precisely when the biggest challenge for the metaverse rears its head. See, the metaverse wants digital personas that can be carried across platforms, and the tech industry isn’t one to take the sharing of platforms lightly. Firstly, it goes against the competitive nature of the industry. Secondly, it would mean that proprietary tech would have to be shared between multi-billion dollar companies. (Credit: Photo by Alexander Shatov on Unsplash) Several tech giants are contemplating this conundrum as we speak. The main issue holding many companies back is that if they agree to all share the metaverse, won’t that make the owner of the metaverse the one who comes out on top? The answer depends on various factors, the most important of which is the integration aspect. How do we get all these technologies and platforms to work together seamlessly when they’re owned by entirely different companies with distinct design philosophies? If we can reach an optimum level of tech integration and find common ground for these tech companies, the metaverse may yet become the way of the future. But which technologies require integration? Let’s take a look at the three most prominent tech types relevant to our discussion. Extended reality The immersive nature of the metaverse would be impossible without extended reality (XR) tech. XR is an umbrella term for VR, augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). Devices granting access to the metaverse must have at least some form of XR capability. Still, some XR devices are less practical than others. VR is still expensive in the grand scheme of things, and only focusing on affordability can make it the primary platform for mass adoption. On the other hand, AR devices (like your smartphone) are affordable but aren’t as immersive as their VR counterparts. Only time will tell which XR category wins out in the end. We may end up with a combination of XR devices, essentially leaving the choice up to the individual. (Credit: Minh Pham on Unsplash) Artificial intelligence Artificial intelligence (AI) is another key area of tech for the metaverse. It has the potential to affect multiple aspects of the metaverse, from avatar creation all the way through to world generation. Through machine learning and data analysis, AI can streamline the experience for the user. It can collect biometric data and build databases, translate languages automatically, and even measure our patterns of behavior. Ultimately, AI is highly versatile and can improve the efficiency of numerous metaverse systems. However, there’s simply no way of knowing what the extent of AI’s influence will be. For all we know, it could end up running the entire system. Digital currencies Digital currency could have a massive role to play in the metaverse. Cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been around for a few years now, but they’re yet to cross over into the realm of ‘accepted norms.’ The decentralized nature of crypto might be just what the metaverse needs. After all, the main concern right now is the lack of control for platform providers and the end user. Corporations and conglomerates will be the ones holding all the proverbial cards, especially when it comes to the control of information. If NFTs and crypto coins, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, can facilitate safe and secure transactions, then we won’t have to worry about currency conversions and international trade policies. Everyone will have the same payment system, making the cross-platform integration of goods and services far easier to accomplish.

Were Seeing A Lot Of People Come Undone: Expert Reveals The Daily Habit That Can damage Your Divorce Case 9Honey
‘We’re Seeing A Lot Of People Come Undone’: Expert Reveals The Daily Habit That Can ‘damage’ Your Divorce Case – 9Honey https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/were-seeing-a-lot-of-people-come-undone-expert-reveals-the-daily-habit-that-can-damage-your-divorce-case-9honey/ It’s not pretty, but if you know you are heading to Splitsville, here are some top tips to follow that I wish I’d known before my divorce. 1. Get a lawyer and an accountant I was lucky in that my divorce was awful but amicable. However, if you can smell blood in the water and think things will get ugly, hire the best lawyer and accountant you can find, and make sure they are working together on your case.   Leah Oliver, founder of Minnik Chartered Accountants, doesn’t mince words: “This whole process is about money.” “You might think it’s about your child’s future or it’s about where you are going to live etc,” she explains.  “Once you start to realise the behaviours of the other side and what kinds of things will play out, you will realise that right at the core of every single behaviour in every single action that a person takes is money.” READ MORE: ‘I’m too scared to ask my husband for a divorce’ Shelly Horton says these are the kind of money tips she wishes she’d known before getting a divorce. (Supplied) 2. Numbers don’t lie Lawyers will need full disclosure of your financial situation. As the saying goes, “numbers don’t lie”. Correct! Legal cases are based primarily on data. Financial data. “So financial disclosure is all about transparency, presenting the numbers and presenting the truth because you get situations where people will tell lies to try to come out on top than the other side,” Oliver says. “So, what the numbers do is that they smash those lies apart. Accountants work with the lawyers to present the financial disclosure to the court or at mediation and those numbers tell the truth. We can literally unravel a web of lies that the other side has created. So, it’s all about transparency.” 3. Don’t put it in writing I don’t think people realise that when you’re texting, emailing or using social media, it is considered publishing! READ MORE: The Divorce Diaries ‘When I told my husband I wanted to separate, he cut me off financially’ Over-utilising technology to communicate could work against you Leah Oliver says. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) “We’re seeing a lot of people come undone because of this. Because communicating via texts, social media and emails, all that’s become normal rather than talking face-to-face,” Oliver explains. “We utilise our gadgets and utilise our devices to communicate, and especially if you’re emotional, some stuff can get said that can really work against you. So the whole legal world is relying on that data now because it’s evidence. Making comments on these tools is putting it in writing and can actually be quite damaging to your case.  “I suggest anything to do with finances, or anything to do with your emotions, just go complete cold turkey and stop communication. At that point in time, you would then rely on the lawyers to do all the communication for you because they are representing you.” 4. Be Fonzie In other words, be cool. Easy to say, but hard to do, and that’s to try and take your emotions out of it. “The trick is to kind of push everything aside, get some time to yourself, just really kind of go out in nature or whatever soothes you.  What will happen is the other side’s lawyers will try to throw things in front of you like obstacles or things that make you feel guilty or make you feel emotional.  So, the trick is just to get yourself on your own and push those emotions aside and to really focus hard on the financial side of your legal case,” Oliver says. READ MORE: ‘It became my breaking point’: Wife’s decades-long secret Shelly Horton recommends looking after your mental health during this time is of paramount importance. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) 5. Look after your mental health I don’t think I would have survived my divorce without my counsellor. It took me a couple of appointments to find the right counsellor I clicked with. Don’t just expect it to work with the first person you google.   “Attend counselling with a reputable psychologist or psychotherapist with experience in separation matters. Attend alone,” Oliver says. “We find that a lot of people going through separation will offload on their lawyer, offload on their accountant, offload on sometimes even the person who they’re in the case with, or their friends and that can be really damaging to your relationships and also expensive if you do that with your lawyer,” she says.  For a daily dose of 9Honey, subscribe to our newsletter here.
