NYFW: Crypto Shines In Vivienne Tam, Tommy Hilfiger Shows – Fast Company https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/nyfw-crypto-shines-in-vivienne-tam-tommy-hilfiger-shows-fast-company/ By Connie Lin3 minute Read For the second time since the global pandemic, New York Fashion Week has dawned upon the city, bringing a flock of cascading black fabric, billowing sleeves, and sky-high stilettos to the streets of Lower Manhattan. Models drape themselves around town, Perrier water flows, and the glitterati party like it’s 2019; yet, vestiges of the pandemic hide in the crevices. After two years in a digital void, something in the culture has shifted—and this time, NFTs, the techno-pandemic darling, are taking center stage. Multiple runway shows pay homage to Web3, and like most fashion statements, it’s the opposite of subtle. Designer Tommy Hilfiger’s show was billed to blend the real world with the metaverse, a mashup he bizarrely branded as “phygital” (physical meets digital). The production—staged at a drive-in movie theater in Brooklyn—was livestreamed in Roblox, where avatars wearing renderings of the outfits strutted through a virtual cityscape. Viewers could purchase real-world versions of the clothing within the game. Meanwhile, customers who purchased from Alo Yoga’s Aspen skiing-inspired collection also received NFTs certifying ownership of the clothing. But nowhere were NFTs more striking than in Vivienne Tam’s show, which took place on the border of New York’s iconic but distinct Soho and Tribeca neighborhoods. Much like how the designer’s clothing has always stood at the crossroads between East and West, the collection now, dramatically, revels in that ethereal space between the physical and the virtual. Up the elevator and onto the sixth floor of Spring Studios, electronic music plays as blocks of colored pixels flicker against the wall. Underneath the spotlights, a couple of guys loiter, wearing headgear shaped like CryptoPunk NFT avatars of human faces. For her show, Tam has partnered with First Digital Trust, a Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency custody service; Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange platform founded by the Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron; and the NFT project CyberKongz, which is currently selling for a minimum of $25,000 on OpenSea. Her clothing features the CyberKongz monkeys and other blue-chip collections, including CryptoPunks and the Bored Ape Yacht Club, in various fashions: bold earrings, patches on a denim jacket, the bodice of an evening gown. Their likeness is impossible to miss. For Tam, that’s by design. “I want to bring the worlds of art and NFTs together,” she shares from backstage at the runway, noting that storytelling is at the heart of both spheres. “For people in NFTs and the metaverse, I want to show that the physical world is important, too,” she says. In particular, IP owners and creators benefit when people are wearing physical manifestations of their avatars. Contractually, Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunk NFT holders own the IP rights for their avatars—meaning, that to feature the unique illustrations of apes and punks on her clothing, Tam had to work with individual NFT holders who licensed the images out to the designer and her team. A group of so-called whale collectors, who hold dozens of NFT properties, allowed Tam to elevate their avatars to the realm of high fashion. Other Tam clothing featured Awkward Astronauts, an NFT collection sold on Nifty Gateway, the NFT trading platform owned by Gemini. “The more we can intersect NFTs with fashion, art, and different creative communities, the better,” says Cameron Winklevoss, who attended the show with his twin. “It’s super early, but NFTs are here to stay . . . and there are all kinds of dimensions to go in,” he adds, musing that NFTs could also offer ticketing for the very event we’re at. Another shirt makes its way down the runway with a sparkling “First Digital” logo emblazoned on the back. According to the company’s CEO, its custody service will help users who buy NFTs of Tam’s clothing in the metaverse translate that purchase into a real-world order, offering more Web3 functionality in fashion. According to Tam, her collection also embodies the spirit of traditional Chinese mah-jongg, which she likens to NFTs as “it’s about intelligence, and playing the game as much as winning it.” When they see her NFT-inspired clothing, she says, “I want [people] to be excited and think, ‘Wow, they’re alive!’ That brings me joy.”

U.S. Justice Dept Announces ‘carrots And Sticks’ Approach To Corporate Crime – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-justice-dept-announces-carrots-and-sticks-approach-to-corporate-crime-reuters/ Lisa Monaco, deputy U.S. attorney general, speaks during the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Police Executives Forum in Washington, D.C., U.S., on Friday, May 6, 2022. Sarah Silbiger/Pool via REUTERS/File Photo Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com NEW YORK, Sept 15 (Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) will use a “carrots and sticks” approach to combat corporate crime by encouraging companies to report and prevent misconduct while enhancing penalties for repeat offenders, it on Thursday announced. At an event at New York University, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said the DOJ will make it harder for companies to enter into multiple settlements that defer or waive prosecutions, and that it would try to reward companies that claw back executive compensation after learning of misconduct. The change would “shift the burden of corporate financial penalties away from shareholders — who frequently play no role in misconduct — onto those who are more directly responsible,” Monaco said, adding that the DOJ would develop more detailed guidance about the rewards by the end of the year. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Companies that voluntarily report misconduct and cooperate with investigators will not be required to plead guilty in most cases, Monaco said, sparing them hefty fines. She described the plan as a “carrots and sticks” approach to let companies’ lawyers make a “business case” for strong compliance. Democratic President Joe Biden’s Justice Department has toughened its stance toward corporate offenders. White-collar prosecutions fell to an all-time low under former President Donald Trump’s Republican administration. In October, the Justice Department issued new rules requiring companies to name all people involved in misconduct in order to receive credit for cooperation, and required prosecutors to consider a company’s full record when deciding how to resolve a probe. read more Since Biden took office, federal prosecutors have brought racketeering charges against the founder of Archegos Capital Management over the $36 billion firm’s meltdown, and have secured a guilty plea from a unit of Allianz SE (ALVG.DE) for fraud over the collapse of some investment funds. read more Under the new policy on settlements, DOJ leadership must approve any company’s second non-prosecution or deferred prosecution agreement, Monaco said. Those deals let companies escape criminal prosecution in exchange for fines and promises of better behavior. Between 10% and 20% of all significant corporate criminal resolutions involve repeat offenders, Monaco said. 2022 Midterm Election News As Democrats, Republicans Race To November – Fox News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/2022-midterm-election-news-as-democrats-republicans-race-to-november-fox-news/ Live updates following the final primary elections in the 2022 midterms as Republicans and Democrats begin the final eight weeks of campaigning before the November general. Stay up-to-date the events and latest news surrounding the 2022 midterms from Fox News! incoming update… Many Republicans running in this year’s midterm elections do not support Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., proposed bill that would limit abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy – or after “the stage at which substantial medical evidence indicates that they are capable of feeling pain.” In June, the Supreme Court, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, returning power to the states to limit abortion. Following the SCOTUS decision, abortion became one of the focal points of this year’s midterm election, as numerous GOP candidates were accused by their Democratic opponents of holding “extreme” views on abortion. One recent ad from VetVotes and the Senate Majority PAC targeted Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters for his pro-life stance, and called him “unAmerican.” Read more from Fox News’ Aubrie Spady here. Posted by Aubrie Spady A new AARP poll of Alaska voters shows neck-and-neck race between Republican candidates Kelly Tshibaka and incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski — but only after multiple rounds of voting in the state’s ranked-choice voting system. The poll, released Thursday, reflects the ranked choice system, where voters select their top four choices, and if no candidate clears 50% support in the first ballot count, election counters remove the ballots for the least-supported candidate, and consider the second choice on those ballots. In the first two rounds of counting the AARP poll, no candidate clears 50%, according to the poll. “In the final round the race becomes a dead heat, finishing at 50% of votes going for Murkowski and 50% for Tshibaka,” the AARP poll states. A similar situation is seen in poll for Alaska’s sole House seat, which Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola won in a special election in August — and the poll suggests a similar dynamic will be at play in November, which saw former Gov. Sarah Palin shut out of the seat. Though in the first round of counting no candidate in the House race clears 50%, the third round of the poll shows Peltola ultimately winning over Palin. The GOP vote will be split between Palin and Nick Begich. “In this race, voters overall prefer a Republican candidate, but 60% hold an unfavorable view of former Governor Palin,” the AARP poll states. Posted by Thomas Phippen Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., launched eighteen billboards in 7 pro-life states, directing individuals to a website that contains instructions on how to get an abortion in his state of California. The billboards are running in several states that currently have limitations on abortion, including, Indiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Texas, South Carolina, South Dakota and Oklahoma. In Texas, some of the billboards read “Texas doesn’t own your body. You do,” and “Need an abortion? California is here to help.”  “Here is my message to any woman seeking abortion care in these anti-freedom states: Come to California. We will defend your constitutional right to make decisions about your own health. These un-American abortion bans — many of them without exceptions for rape and incest – are literally killing women. The idea that these Republican politicians are seeking to ‘protect life’ is a total farce. They are seeking to restrict and control their constituents and take away their freedom,” said Newsom. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and return the power to the states to decide on abortion laws, several pro-life states established further restrictions on abortion, some even banning it completely. Posted by Aubrie Spady People in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Portland, Oregon, shared whether they thought President Biden has united or divided this country. “Divided it,” one Allentown woman told Fox News. “Because he’s not doing what he’s supposed to do for this country, and I think that he’s not really, he doesn’t love this country the way he should.” However, another woman, Roxy, said: “He’s trying to be a unifier. I just think it’s really rough right now. You got to do the best you can.” President Biden’s approval rating rose from a low of 36% in July to 45%, driven in part by a sharp increase in Democrat support for Biden (78% up from 65% in July), according to a poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.  Read more from Fox News’ Lisa Bennatan, Hannah Ray Lambert, and Ramiro Vargas here. Schumer, D-N.Y., and six other Democratic senators were spotted dining at Trattoria Alberto, a swanky Italian restaurant in Washington, on Monday evening, and the group was talking loud enough to be heard by other patrons, according to Punchbowl News. Schumer reportedly expressed confidence that Democrats would keep the Senate come November but said Republicans had a 60% chance of taking the House. The other Democratic senators at the gathering included Chris Coons of Delaware, Mark Kelly of Arizona, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, Tom Carper of Delaware, John Hickenlooper of Colorado, and Dick Durbin of Illinois. Trump will travel to Youngstown, Ohio where he will appear with Vance at an event on Sept. 17, 2022. Vance was endorsed by Trump early in his primary campaign and is running in the Ohio Senate race against Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio., who currently serves in the state’s 13th Congressional District. Posted by Aubrie Spady Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick, will hold a fundraiser at their home in New York City next week for Texas Democratic gubernatorial nominee Beto O’Rourke. The fundraiser will take place on September 21 with tickets for sponsors costing $5,000 and tickets for co-hosts costing $10,000, according to an invitation for the event shared by Scott Braddock, an editor for Quorom Report. O’Rourke will face off in November against incumbent GOP Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has served at the helm of Texas since 2015. Posted by Kyle Morris CONCORD, N.H. – A display of unity at the New Hampshire GOP’s unity breakfast on Thursday morning.  Retired Army Gen. Don Bolduc — who on Tuesday narrowly captured the Republican Senate nomination in the key general election battleground state in a race that’s one of a handful that may decide if the GOP wins back the chamber’s majority in November’s general election — walked over to Republican Gov. Chris Sununu and gave him a big hug. Bolduc claimed last year that Sununu was a “communist Chinese sympathizer” and that the Sununu family’s business “supports terrorism.” While Bolduc has walked back those attacks on the popular governor, he continues to criticize Sununu’s policies during the coronavirus pandemic as “executive overreach.”  A few weeks ago, Sununu said on a popular statewide talk-radio program that Bolduc’s “not a serious candidate, he’s really not, and if he were the GOP nominee, I have no doubt we would have a much harder time… He’s kind of a conspiracy theorist-type candidate.” While Sununu tempered those criticisms in recent days, last week ahead of the primary he endorsed Bolduc’s main rival for the nomination, longtime New Hampshire Senate President Chuck Morse. Bolduc ended up edging Morse by a razor thin margin in Tuesday’s primary. On the eve of the unity breakfast, Bolduc appeared to try and make amends with some of his past rhetoric on the campaign trial. “A campaign is tough. It’s tough on everybody. We say things in the heat of conversation that we regret later. We hope that we can say we’re sorry for it and people forgive, but that’s not always the case. And I’m no different,” Bolduc lamented at a unity fundraiser. “I’m a man who’s fallible. A man who errors. A man who says things that perhaps should be left unsaid.” Posted by Paul Steinhauser As Fox News first reported, the Senate Leadership Fund recently announced that it would spend $23 million to buy TV time in the small but crucial battleground state of New Hampshire, as the top super PAC that backs Senate Republicans targets Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan in a crucial race that’s one of a handful that will likely determine if the GOP wins back the chamber’s majority.  But after former Army Gen. Don Bolduc – a populist, MAGA-style Republican who ran an bare-bones outsider campaign – defeated more mainstream conservative and longtime New Hampshire Senate President Chuck Morse by a razor-thin margin in Tuesday’s GOP U.S. Senate primary, there were questions over whether the group – which is aligned with longtime Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, would honor its reservation.  That’s because there were concerns from some Republicans in the state and nationally that a primary victory by the retired general, who has severely struggled with fundraising and who had said he supported former President Donald Trump’s unproven claims the 2020 election was “stolen,” would allow Hassan to win re-election. Two weeks ago, a newly formed super PAC named the White Mountain PAC, which had loose links to McConnell’s political orbit, dished out roughly $4 million to run TV commercials in New Hampshire blasting Bolduc for his “crazy ideas.” And pro-Democratic groups meddled in the GOP primary,...

Steelseries Arena 9 Gaming Speakers Review Aural Combat Gaming Trend
Steelseries Arena 9 Gaming Speakers Review – Aural Combat – Gaming Trend https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/steelseries-arena-9-gaming-speakers-review-aural-combat-gaming-trend/ I remember when the notion of gaming headsets sounded a bit silly. There I was in the early 2010’s, working at GameStop, and someone asked if we had any of those “Turtle Beaches”. I had no idea what was going on, but I was just a bit late to the party. Before too long, we not only carried them, we had them in every color and brand imaginable, with marketing and wall planograms to set full sections of the things. Headsets are such an incredible part of our gaming experience we often forget it’s okay to take them off and use… speakers. It’s a crazy idea, but for most of us what’s coming from our monitor or TV just plain sucks considering the hundreds of dollars we’ve put into a headset. Enter the Steelseries Arena speakers, something that won’t just sound amazing, but will look better than the $5 clearance soundbar you got from Walmart. Steelseries Arena gaming speakers trailer – [Gaming Trend] In the box you have everything you’ll need to get bumping along. There’s a center channel speaker with attached cable, the right and left front speakers and attached cables, the wireless back speakers (one with a cable to attach to the other), and a nice sized subwoofer. Besides that, you have an OLED control pod, and the obligatory two power cables (one for the subwoofer and one for the right wireless back speaker), with a USB-C for connecting to your PC or PlayStation. One thing in particular I’m very glad about is the multi-pin connectors on the front right and left speakers, similar to those you’d find a professional sound mixer using. It leads me to feel like this isn’t your run of the mill sound system, and it definitely comes across that way. They also look super nice too, like the premium product you’re paying for. Hooking everything up is quite easy, with only five cables to connect to the subwoofer (which is essentially what most everything runs out of), and connecting your back speakers together and to a power source. It only took me ten to fifteen minutes to get everything going, and that was only because my space is a bit terrible to work with. Ease of use is certainly appreciated with anything, and with a large surround sound array it’s nice that it’s simple. There’s also a ton of ways to choose how you want to use the system, via USB-C, optical (with an out as well), Bluetooth, or even a 3.5 jack. The Arena 9 is extremely versatile, so using it isn’t going to be a problem. Something you may not be as prepared for is the size of everything, so make sure to check the dimensions of your space when you choose your fighter. The subwoofer isn’t massive, just over a foot tall and roughly 9inx9in in width and depth, not too bad to stick under your desk. As for the speakers, the back ones are surprisingly easy to place, small with a good length of cable allowing them to be placed a decent ways apart, along with wall mount capability on the back. The front two speakers are your biggest challenges, nearly 8 inches tall and a good 4 inches deep. Thankfully the cables have a good length to them to give you plenty of space to work with to compensate, but it’s something to think about. The center speaker is the easiest to set up, but it honestly should be, with its place in front of you pretty straightforward to diagnose. An unsung hero of this setup is actually the control pod, something very similar to the base station of the Nova Pro headset. It functions largely the same, with a dial and touch controls to allow you to go through and change your settings. With it though, you can re-pair the back wireless speakers, change your EQ, set up Bluetooth, and even change your lighting settings for the RGB. It even has the 3.5 jack on it if you decide to run a wired headset through it. I really like having this kind of control at my fingertips, and as soon as Steelseries starts letting me save custom EQ settings to it, the control pod/base will be the perfect device. Once everything is set up, it’s time to ruin our eardrums. The Arena 9 advertises 5.1 capability, with your five speakers and subwoofer all ready to rock. As per my usual testing with a headset, I wanted to do the normal, music, video, and gaming. Something I did change around given the promises of the setup, I added watching some TV in the mix, just to see if the 5.1 surround sound would hold up. Starting with music, everything sounds fantastic on this system. Compared to the Nova Pros, the Arena 9’s tend to lean loud. The nicest part is that they still retain much of the crisp sound, so the added volume boosts the audio to greater heights. I had to mess with the subwoofer a little bit, but the “thump” you hear can get really loud depending on what you’re listening to, so if you love that bassy thud, you won’t be missing it even with a smaller sized subwoofer. Before we move into some of the other audio, I was a bit disappointed in not being able to really figure out what exactly triggers the 5.1 surround sound when it comes to music (or anything else for that matter). There is an upmix function we’ll talk about later, but that’s only mimicking true 5.1. I tried to mess with all my settings possible through the computer and Bluetooth, but I could never get anything running 5.1, even when I found the Dolby Atmos music on Amazon Music. Everything still sounds great, but I’d have loved to have had the full experience rather than just the two front speakers and the subwoofer, as good as they are. TV and gaming on the other hand work automatically as you use different services. For instance, I wanted to get at least a bit of music in there through the surround sound, so utilizing the Disney+ app I was able to watch the recent BTS concert video. There weren’t any extra clicks or messing with it, it just worked, with all of the speakers and the subwoofer working in tandem to give me the feeling of being there at the show. Besides that, I took the time to watch some Star Wars as well, and the 5.1 is just incredible there, even with something like Clone Wars. If you’re watching through the right avenue (for instance, it doesn’t work in a browser but does through the app), it’s really impressive what sound you can get out of the Arena 9. When I turned on the likes of Hellblade and Shatterline to test out the gaming capabilities of the Arena 9, I got the same great sound I heard via the Disney+ app. Hellblade is a game known especially for its use of 3D audio, with Senua’s descent into madness marked by the whispers around you. I’d still highly suggest using a headset like they do, but the Arena 9 holds up very well all things considered. You don’t necessarily get the hair-raising chills of hearing the disembodied voices biting at your neck, but given this system’s distance from you compared to a living room surround sound, it does a decent job at conveying the emotional torment. I just wouldn’t prefer it over a headset. With Shatterline, a new free-to-play FPS I suggest you try immediately, it again automatically tuned over to the 5.1 audio, and with this one it was very apparent right away that it was working. In a team deathmatch, I could very easily pinpoint where gunfire was originating from, leading me to play the flanks or take other players head on via my advantage of knowing where they were. Directional audio for gaming certainly seems to be where the Arena 9 shines, and since that’s most likely why you’ll pick it up, it’s a keeper. Where you can get really in depth with everything is in the Steelseries GG app, which also houses the “Engine” tab for simple or RGB adjustments, and the “Sonar” tab, for your more complex equalization. With Engine, I really like how you can change the levels for each speaker, allowing me to make my back or center speakers more prominent over their 2.1 brethren that tend to get most of the credit, or scale back the subwoofer because it’s too loud for my house. The RGB on the two front speakers is especially nice, with a nice strip around the stand along with a big translucent back panel that can really light up a space. While there aren’t tons of options in the menu for customization, how amazing it looks in general, along with some minimal additional effects, makes for something to make your desk look fly. Steelseries Sonar Audio Software Suite Launch Trailer! – [Gaming Trend] You’ve already heard me sing about Sonar’s praises in previous reviews, but let me remind you: it’s extraordinary. The equalizer doesn’t just work, it makes everything sound better and has tremendous presets for plenty of different media uses. Beyond that, being able to modify your game audio, chat audio, and microphone output separately is awesome, and it’s all for the price of free. This extends to what it does with the Arena 9, amplifying the sound you get from it even further than whatever equalizer you have can take it. If you’re going to invest in anything Steelseries, and possibly even if you’re using another headset, consider grabbing the GG app to play around with Sonar. As for versatility, we’ve already mentioned that you have lots of options when it comes to hooking up devices. With so many different inputs, you can really do most of anything you’d like, and given the box told me to do it, I tried out the PS5 with it. I can at least say it sounds pretty decent, and it’s super easy to connect, just by plugging in your USB-C or optical cable. The main game I tried with this one was Rainbow Six: Extraction, just to see if I could get some good shooter sounds going through this thing. Something I found out in the manual, the PS5 does not recognize the Arena 9 as a full surround sound device, so you’re pushed to use the upmix function to get something comparable. I like the upmix ability, but it just isn’t the full 5.1 surround sound that I’ve gotten when hooked up t...

Trump Warns Of big Problems If Indicted Says Hed Still Run For Office The Washington Post
Trump Warns Of ‘big Problems’ If Indicted, Says He’d Still Run For Office – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/trump-warns-of-big-problems-if-indicted-says-hed-still-run-for-office-the-washington-post/ Former president Donald Trump warned that if he were indicted on a charge of mishandling classified documents after leaving the White House, there would be “problems in this country the likes of which perhaps we’ve never seen before.” Trump, speaking Thursday to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, added, “I don’t think the people of the United States would stand for it.” Hewitt, who is also a contributing columnist for The Washington Post, then noted that critics would describe the comment as inciting violence, and he asked Trump to respond to the claim. “That’s not inciting — I’m just saying what my opinion is. I don’t think the people of this country would stand for it,” Trump said. When pressed by Hewitt, Trump said he thought there would be “big problems, big problems.” Federal agents conducted a court-authorized search of Trump’s club and residence Aug. 8, as part of a long-running investigation into whether government documents — some of which are classified — were being stored at Mar-a-Lago instead of returned to the National Archives. The FBI probe is the latest legal pressure on Trump, who now faces growing scrutiny as the criminal probe intensifies. The investigation is looking into whether he or his former aides took classified government documents and improperly stored or never returned them. Trump’s lawyer has argued that the former president cooperated with federal authorities and that many of the documents were covered by executive privilege. In January 2021, the House impeached Trump on a single charge of “incitement of insurrection” for his role in whipping up a crowd of his supporters to stop Congress from the counting of electoral college votes for Joe Biden. A mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, to stop the count, an attack that resulted in five deaths and injuries to dozens of members of law enforcement. Trump’s comments Thursday came hours before officials from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security briefed Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee about threats against federal officials. After the briefing, Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.), the committee’s chairman, described Trump’s rhetoric as dangerous. “Inviting the mob to return to the streets is exactly what happened here on January 6th, 2021,” Durbin told reporters. After noting that five people died as a result of the attack and 149 law enforcement agents were injured that day, the senator said Trump’s “careless and inflammatory rhetoric has its consequences.” In the interview with Hewitt, Trump also said he “would have no prohibition against running” for office if he were indicted. “It would not take you out of the arena,” Hewitt said, trying to clarify the former president’s position. Trump replied, “It would not.” Trump repeatedly has hinted at another run for the presidency in 2024. In 1920, socialist Eugene V. Debs ran for president from prison, where he was serving time in the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary for speaking out against the draft during World War I. Debs and his running mate, Emil Seidel, garnered 913,693 votes, but — as in his previous campaigns — no electoral votes. Trump’s warning of problems echoes Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), who told Fox News last month that there would be “riots in the street” if Trump is prosecuted. Trump appeared to endorse the notion, sharing a link to a video of Graham’s comments on his Truth Social platform.

Some MLB Players Wearing #21, All Wearing 21 Patches Today For Roberto Clemente Day – SportsLogos.Net News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/some-mlb-players-wearing-21-all-wearing-21-patches-today-for-roberto-clemente-day-sportslogos-net-news/ Major League Baseball players, coaches, and umpires will be honouring the life of Roberto Clemente today throughout the league in recognition of Roberto Clemente Day. As part of the celebrations, all players will be wearing a white patch featuring Clemente’s number 21 in the black and gold of the Pittsburgh Pirates on their sleeves. Additionally, Puerto Rican players, as well as any past Clemente Award winners and nominees, will have the option to wear the number 21 on the backs of their jerseys in place of their usual numbers during games today. The entire rosters of the Pittsburgh Pirates (the team for whom Clemente spent his entire Major League career) as well as their opponents tonight, the New York Mets, will wear the number 21. The game will be broadcast nationally on Fox at 7 p.m. ET. Since Clemente’s untimely death in a plane crash during a humanitarian mission to Nicaragua in 1972, no Pirates player has worn 21. The team retired the number at their home opener in 1973, reserving its future use only for any of Clemente’s children, should they reach the big leagues. Clemente’s son Luis came the closest to achieving this, playing seven games for the Pirates Gulf Coast League team in 1985. The pride of his native Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente played eighteen seasons in the big leagues, all of which were with the Pirates, from 1955 through 1972. During that time, Clemente was selected to the National League All-Star Team a dozen times, won the NL MVP Award in 1966, accumulated exactly 3000 hits, and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum by way of a special election (waiving the customary five-year waiting period) in 1973.

Ommyo Makes Foray Into Metaverse, Says Zaleski – Khaleej Times https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ommyo-makes-foray-into-metaverse-says-zaleski-khaleej-times/ The metaverse has captured the interest of social media platforms, online game developers, and other tech pioneers as the next major tech revolution. Dr Tomasz Zaleski. — Supplied photo Published: Fri 16 Sep 2022, 12:38 AM Last updated: Fri 16 Sep 2022, 12:44 AM The Private office of Sheikh Ahmed bin Faisal Al Qassimi is all set to make foray into metaverse with a launch of its new platform ‘Ommyo’, said chairman Dr Tomasz Zaleski. “Ommyo is the most recent economy to emerge in the metaverse developing a dedicated blockchain and a digital currency for payments in the metaverse. The platform consists of a team of developers focused on creating real use cases and connecting real assets like historical places, real estate and businesses that will be hosted in the virtual space of the metaverse,” said Zaleski “Ommyo. Net is dedicated to enhancing the integration of blockchain with our unique metaverse solutions to provide an all-natural look and organic financial growth for our clients, partners and community. Through our news channel, Learn and Earn, Ommyo Academy aims to educate our community and members, with the benefits that new technologies especially in the blockchain space can deliver. Ommyo wants its community to learn and grow opportunities globally.” Ommyo is not developing a gaming platform but is gamifying and dedicating disruptive technology to enhance and grow the local economy making Dubai a technology hub globally. Ommyo Blockchain Development gives developers the freedom to build, develop, and earn using Ommyo Blockchain to boost their earning potential while allowing our strategic partners to nurture and grow existing and new talent. There is currently a significant ecosystem for developing, acquiring, and profiting from decentralised digital assets due to the adoption of non-fungible tokens and cryptocurrency on several blockchain-based platforms. The idea of the metaverse is incomplete without blockchain because of all the limitations of centralised data storage. The potential of blockchain to work globally, as a digital source functioning on the concept of decentralisation, primarily differentiates the metaverse from the capabilities of the traditional internet, which is made up of websites and applications. The blockchain-based metaverse allows users to access any digital space without the intervention of a centralised authority. — business@khaleejtimes.com

Missouri S&T – News And Events – Carbon-Capture Research Wins $1.7 Million Grant – Missouri S&T News And Research https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/missouri-st-news-and-events-carbon-capture-research-wins-1-7-million-grant-missouri-st-news-and-research/ Researchers at Missouri S&T will develop a system to capture carbon dioxide and use it for blended cement, ultimately contributing to the decarbonization of the cement industry. The National Science Foundation awarded a $1.7 million grant for the project. “Our goal is to deliver an innovative, integrated and adaptable capture-and-conversion system while producing valuable cement supplements from waste CO2,” says Dr. Fateme Rezaei, The Linda and Bipin Doshi Associate Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Missouri S&T. “Waste CO2 in industrial flues is considered a valuable resource for a variety of products, including chemicals and fuels.” Rezaei, an internationally known expert in carbon capture, is working with a team of S&T researchers, including Dr. Hongyan Ma, associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering; Dr.Kwame Awuah-Offei, chair of mining and explosives engineering; and Dr. Joseph Smith, the Wayne and Gayle Laufer Chair of Energy and professor of chemical and biochemical engineering. The research team also includes Chengquing Qi, technical center director at Ash Grove Cement Company of Overland Park, Kansas, which is a corporate partner. Rezaei says the United States produces about 90 million metric tons of cement each year, emitting about the same amount of CO2. Portland cement dominates the market, and she says that if no sustainable alternatives cements are invented, the most promising strategy for decarbonizing the cement industry is to developed additives to make blended cement. Portland cement contains clinker, a material made by liquifying limestone and clay under intense heat in a kiln, mixing it with gypsum and grinding it into a fine powder to use as a binder. “The White House goal of cutting America’s carbon emissions in half by 2020 requires investment in carbon-intensive industrial sectors like cement manufacturing that are hard to decarbonize,” says Rezaei. “This strategy could replace clinker in commodity cement with carbon-efficient – or even carbon-negative – minerals.” The team will explore the fundamental chemistry needed to develop economically viable technology to convert the captured CO2 to blended cement. Rezaei says the research could be applied to other industries that emit CO2. It can also be used to extract CO2 directly from air. The NSF award begins Jan. 1. About Missouri University of Science and Technology Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is a STEM-focused research university of approximately 7,000 students. THE WASHINGTON OUTDOOR REPORT Week Of September 11 Cashmere Valley Record
THE WASHINGTON OUTDOOR REPORT Week Of September 11 Cashmere Valley Record
THE WASHINGTON OUTDOOR REPORT Week Of September 11 – Cashmere Valley Record https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-washington-outdoor-report-week-of-september-11-cashmere-valley-record/ By:  John Kruse, The Washington Outdoor Report The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has released their annual hunting prospects report, put together by regional and district game biologists. Here’s the highlights for deer and elk for the upcoming season: Deer The best place to go for white-tailed deer in Washington is Northeast Washington’s District 1, covering Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille Counties. Ferry County also offers good opportunities for mule deer. Last year 3544 deer were harvested in this region, which was down 18 percent from the five-year average. WDFW biologists state roadside surveys indicate deer populations are stable. The best Game Management Units to hunt for success are GMU 121 (Huckleberry) where 31 percent of deer hunters harvested an animal during the modern firearm season though this did attract an average of five hunters per square mile. GMU 101 (Sherman) was best for archery hunters. Very few hunters were in the area last year and the success rate was 23 percent. WDFW will have voluntary check stations set up at locations throughout this region during the opening weekend of hunting season and will be checking animals for the presence of chronic wasting disease. Heading to North Central Washington’s District 7, covering Chelan and Douglas counties, you’ll find what is traditionally some of the best mule deer hunting in the state. The Chelan herd of mule deer has a buck to doe ratio of 25:100 while the Douglas herd’s ration is 26:100, meeting or beating management objectives. Harvest was down last year but biologists believe that’s because hunter participation was as well.  If you are looking for big numbers of mule deer, head to Okanogan County (District 6) which has the largest migratory mule deer herd in the state. Good numbers of white-tailed deer are found in GMUs 204 and 215. Fires and drought in recent years have set deer numbers back but the herds are recovering. Biologists expect a modest increase of 2 ½-year-old bucks this year and a harvest similar to last season. Last year 2,228 deer were harvested in Okanogan County, about a hundred deer above the five-year average. Archery hunters did best with a 26% success rate, followed by muzzleloaders with a 23% success rate and modern firearms hunters, of which only 18% harvested a deer. The Desert Wildlife Area and Columbia Basin in Grant and Adams Counties also offers very good mule deer hunting, albeit, carefully managed and often limited to hunters lucky enough to draw a tag. Last year 747 bucks were harvested in this area (District 6), and 156 of them were 5-point antlered bucks or better. Modern firearms hunters had the best success in the open terrain found in this region and with very healthy buck to doe ratios biologists expect good mule deer hunting again this year. Most of the bucks will likely be harvested in GMU 272 (Beezley) and GMU 284 (Ritzville). Finally heading to Klickitat, Skamania and Clark Counties, deer hunters have limited public land opportunities so permits from timber companies often dictate opportunity and success. Having said that, biologists say, “Deer harvest and success is remarkably consistent within District 9, where hunters are expected to harvest approximately 2,000 bucks during the 2022 general season, representing a success rate of 20-25 percent.” Biologists also noted, “Deer harvest in West Klickitat (GMU 578), Grayback (388), and East Klickitat (382) was higher in 2021 than in recent years, which is an indication of recovery for these populations.” Elk The Blue Mountains elk herd has been significantly declining in numbers in recent years, down to an estimated 3900 animals this year compared to a high of some 5800 animals eight years ago. The bull to cow ratio is just under 20 bulls for 100 cows. Harsh winters in the last decade definitely had an effect on this herd but so does predation. Very few calves radio collared in a recent study survived and most of those that died were killed by cougars. Staff biologists predict, “The low number of calves being recruited into the population in 2022 will result in a low number of yearling bulls (spikes) available for harvest this fall. This fall will be another below-average year for yearling bull harvest.” The Mount Saint Helens elk herd has also struggled in recent years due to hoof rot disease as well as harsh winters and cold, late springs. Biologists say, “These indicators point toward an elk population that is below objective and well below historic highs. Therefore, hunters should expect a generally less productive elk hunting season during the 2022 hunt. WDFW has reduced antlerless hunting opportunity accordingly.” Another option is Northeast Washington, where the Selkirk elk herd resides, but WDFW biologists caution, “In general, opportunities are marginal and harvest success is very low.” The Coluckum herd, residing in Chelan and Kittitas Counties, offers a brighter note. In the Wenatchee District, GMU 251 (Mission) offers the best chance for elk hunters going after animals from the Colockum elk herd in places like Jump Off Ridge as well as the Camas and Tronsen Meadows. Of the 42 elk harvested in this district during last year’s general season, the vast majority came from here. During the general season, this is a spike bull-only harvest area. There was also a late cow elk season last year in the Peshastin area to reduce damage to orchards and this will likely happen again this year. Overall, biologists are hearing reports of increasing numbers of elk in this district and harvest rates are expected to be between 40 to 55 elk. Top Regional Destinations: Northeast Stowe, Vermont (Getty Images) Some call Stowe, Vermont, a hikers paradise, but travelers embarking on a New England weekend getaway here will also find zip lining and performing arts events, plus ample opportunities to enjoy cold weather sports like skiing and snowboarding during winter months. The city sits near many of Vermont’s top attractions. Autumn is especially beautiful here and can make for a cheaper trip if you stick to free activities like hiking and admiring the colorful fall foliage. As you look for weekend stays within your budget, make sure to check out The Stowehof and Butler House Stowe. There are also many bed-and-breakfast properties in the Stowe area, which can help you start your day with a hearty meal while keeping food costs at a minimum. Niagara Falls State Park, New York (Getty Images) Niagara Falls may seem like nothing more than a gigantic waterfall to some people, but there’s quite a bit to do and see in the surrounding area. While the falls themselves are a must-visit, you can also take part in activities ranging from hiking into the Niagara Gorge to riding the Maid of the Mist boat tour right up next to the rushing waters. The New York side of this attraction – one of the world’s top tourist sites – can be relatively low-cost when it comes to hotel stays. You may be able to find accommodation in Niagara Falls with nightly rates starting at less than $70 over dates this fall. New York City (Getty Images) The Big Apple is another city that doesn’t always have the lowest hotel rates, yet you can put your money-saving skills to use in other ways. If you can book a hotel with points or stay with friends or family, a bevy of free things to do in New York City can help you keep your budget in check. Explore the sights and sounds of Times Square or walk the entirety of Central Park, where in summer you’ll find a totally free theater event called Shakespeare in the Park. In the spring and fall, catch free live music at BAMcafé Live, one of Brooklyn’s top tourist offerings. Citygoers can also find affordable entertainment in the form of walking tours, outdoor playgrounds, museums and more. Atlantic City, New Jersey (Getty Images) You can enjoy an affordable weekend in Atlantic City – provided you steer clear of the casinos. Truthfully, there are plenty of ways to spend your time in one of New Jersey’s top tourist destinations, including exploring the beautiful beaches and boardwalk, whose roots date back to 1870. Atlantic City is also home to numerous arts and culture venues and offerings, such as the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey, the aquarium and the Atlantic City Ballet. To keep kids happy and entertained, you can play a low-cost round of mini-golf or spend some time splashing in the water during summer months; if you come here on a romantic New Jersey getaway, treat yourself and your partner to dinner on the waterfront. Farm Sanctuary: Watkins Glen, New York (Courtesy of Farm Sanctuary) Farm Sanctuary in the Finger Lakes region of New York is part animal sanctuary and part country retreat – and an ideal location for a weekend escape from New York City. Travelers eager for a break can book a tiny home and spend time with more than 600 rescued farm animals in Watkins Glen. Cottage rentals start at $225 per night for up to two people during winter (although you do have to pay a $25 membership fee to make a booking). You can check out the top wineries in the Finger Lakes during your visit or explore Watkins Glen State Park. Midwest Black Hills National Forest and Badlands National Park, South Dakota (Getty Images) This area of the U.S. is home to Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and the fascinating caverns of Wind Cave, making the Black Hills and Badlands perfect for a road trip. This Illinois adventure playground offers on-site dining options, bookable glamping tents, luxury rental cabins and endless outdoor fun. Guests who visit get the opportunity to participate in activities like fishing, biking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, bird-watching and more. The best part? In addition to plenty of thrill rides, this top-rated amusement destination offers other complimentary kid-friendly perks with admission, including sunscreen, Wi-Fi, soft drinks and use of inner tubes. Visitors will also enjoy theme parks, a Ripley’s Believe it Or Not museum, a bustling downtown and plenty of gorgeous scenery marked by unique rock formations. You can frequently find hotel and attraction discounts on the Wisconsin Dells tourism bureau’s website; keep in mind for any family trips that the best prices are typically available when kids are in school. Indianapolis, Indiana (Getty Images) Indianapolis has gained international acclaim for its bustling racing scene, but this Midwest locale is also affordable and fun to visit – particularly for families. The city hosts what’s considered the largest children’s museum in the world, the 250-acre White River State Park and an interactive history museum known as Conner Prairie. Indianapolis boasts plenty of free entertainment and shows especially in summertime, but you can find affordable attractions all year long, such as Eagle Creek Park or the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, which connects the city’s public spaces. Look for various hotel deals year-round – the colder months tend to be the quietest, and you’ll probably want to avoid a visit around the car races in May, when lodging prices soar. Cedar Point: Sandusky, Ohio (Courtesy of Cedar Point) The famed Cedar Point theme park – one of the best things to do in Ohio – is home to numerous thrill rides and roller coasters, as well as an 18-acre water park. Patrons can brave the park’s Steel Vengeance, which is one of the longest hybrid roller coasters in the world, for example. You can find affordable hotels or motels in nearby towns when you visit this top amusement park: The Holiday Inn Express in Sandusky, for example, offers free breakfast with rates starting at less than $100 per night this fall. Keep in mind that, as a seasonal attraction, Cedar Point is typically closed from November to early May. In Gulf Shores, you can find a two- or three-bedroom beachfront condo that can sleep up to four guests for less than $700 per week on rental sites such as Airbnb, making the city ideal for a family weekend getaway. Plus, you don’t have to visit during the summer to experience the area’s best weather: Spring and fall boast temperatures that are still comfortable for sunbathing and swimming. My Turn: Flat Abs Organized Closets Financial Freedom Newsday
My Turn: Flat Abs, Organized Closets, Financial Freedom – Newsday https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/my-turn-flat-abs-organized-closets-financial-freedom-newsday/ The first morning of retirement I started a diet. In six days, I dropped 9 pounds. By Week 3, I reached my goal weight. How? The Ketoterranianflexitarian Diet and a sensible exercise plan of pickleball after every meal. Then, I exorcised my wardrobe of superfluous sizes. No more overstuffed drawers or compressed hangers. Shirts, arranged by color, streak across my closet like a rainbow in the same tags-facing-forward direction on evenly spaced hangers. I get seven hours of brain-stimulating REM sleep, never waking to urinate. Sipping my morning coffee, I peruse the news online, check social media, then Wordle, WordHurdle, Phoodle, Phrazle and Quordle. From 7 a.m. to noon I write, avoiding emails and texts, never stopping to play Solitaire. Never. In the first month of retirement, I got a book deal with a major publishing house. My husband and I break for a well-balanced lunch and play tic-tac-toe, improving cognitive skills and strengthening memory. We even shredded our password cheat sheets — fear is a great motivator! Returning to our individual pursuits in the afternoon ensures self-reliance. Public displays of affection and active listening are some of our relationship must-haves. Billy and I enjoy a robust sex life, contributing to healthy body images and libidos. Being open-minded lovers willing to experiment, we explore new avenues to physical and emotional intimacy keeping monotony out of monogamy. We moved to a 55-plus development, guaranteeing a sense of belonging. Typically, it’s advised to downsize. We supersized, enticing loved ones to visit by creating a cozy Coastal Grandma space (think Nancy Meyers’ films). The house is loaded with senior-smart features promoting healthy living, such as an alarm system with a Diet setting. We have a large-capacity fridge since we entertain often, maintaining friendships and dispelling loneliness. If we open the fridge after 7 p.m. on a non-entertaining night, an alarm sounds: “Don’t eat that!” In addition, the alarm has a Public Shaming component, that when activated, prompts Alexa to text deleted photos to our Contacts. To address concerns about outliving our money, we maxed out our credit cards, set financial goals at the casinos, downloaded the HoroscopeWealth app and invested in a Magic 8 Ball. Giving back in our golden years? You betcha! I volunteer at Make-A-Dish Foundation, helping the culinarily-impaired, and Habitat for Urbanity, eradicating interior-design blunders (from the proliferation of backless poufs to unflattering lighting) so that everyone has a decently decorated home. Dinners out with friends maintain vital relationships for a healthy emotional support system, should either of us die. Which we won’t, because we eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly and never make left turns while driving. Never. When we’re not building critical relationships, we feed our voracious appetite for the arts with a beefy cable package, 85-inch smart TV and two Park-Your-Butt-Here chairs — the Rolls-Royce of recliners. Bingeing provides conversational fodder in our social circles. I maintain a list of recommended movies, series and documentaries, sorted by genre and referrer so we never utter: “What’s that show Glen’s watching?” After TV, I read for three hours, accomplishing my 365-books-a-year goal. Having recently moved from Bellmore, Billy and I visit family regularly and connect with long-distance friends via scheduled Zooms to avoid social isolation, which can pose health risks to seniors. We enjoy a larger social network than humanly possible with compelling Facebook comments and captivating images of frogs indigenous to southern Delaware. In my spare time, I digitized 50-plus years of photos without the help of a millennial. We know people who retired incorrectly. They started smoking, embraced inactivity and followed a high-fat, low-fiber, carb-heavy diet that didn’t provide the nutrients their brains and bodies need to lower their risk of chronic conditions. But the biggest mistake was their refusal to reinvest in their relationship with their partner. They didn’t practice positivity or model respectful listening but defaulted to old habits, like snapping at each other: “I just said that!”). They didn’t schedule date nights, turn out bedroom lights or binge “Bridgerton” together. Some people just can’t be helped. This Week In The Metaverse: Arrest Warrant For Top Crypto Creator The Merge Arrives The Drum
This Week In The Metaverse: Arrest Warrant For Top Crypto Creator The Merge Arrives The Drum
This Week In The Metaverse: Arrest Warrant For Top Crypto Creator, ‘The Merge’ Arrives – The Drum https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/this-week-in-the-metaverse-arrest-warrant-for-top-crypto-creator-the-merge-arrives-the-drum/ Things are moving fast in the metaverse, and in the wider world of web3 as a whole. Here’s what you need to know from this past week: Roblox — the immensely popular blockchain-based gaming platform — announced during its annual developer conference on September 9 that it will soon introduce an expanded advertising model and age guidelines in an effort to attract an older demographic and expand its income stream. According to data from Statista, approximately 67% of Roblox users were under the age of 17 – and the vast majority were under the age of 13 – in September 2020. Now that distribution appears to be shifting – there now appear to be more daily active users (DAUs) over the age of 13 than below. At the same time, Roblox has been falling short of its financial goals; the company’s most recent financial report shows that it missed both its top and bottom lines. Having derived most of its past income from an in-game currency called Robux, the company seems to be looking for new ways to expand its revenue stream. The company is reportedly hoping to solve both of these problems through the introduction of a new advertising model. According to reporting from The Verge, Roblox announced on Friday that it will soon implement immersive advertising options — such as virtual billboards — which will enable brands and developers to reach players across a vast-scope of in-platform games, or “experiences.” Advertisers will also reportedly soon have the option to create “portals” which will transport players from a game to a branded virtual space. The platform’s new advertising model is slated to be tested with a select group of advertisers later this year, followed by an official launch in 2023. The immersive ads will reportedly be labeled as such and accessible to users aged 13 and older. Roblox also plans to add guidelines to its platform, letting players and parents know which experiences contain potentially offensive or disturbing content. South Korea issues warrant for the arrest of Do Kwon, creator of TerraUSD and Luna A South Korean court issued an arrest warrant earlier this week for Do Kwon, the main builder of the cryptocurrencies TerraUSD and Luna, both of which crashed earlier this year and brought a significant portion of the broader crypto market down with them. According to one estimate, the collapse of the two coins led to investors worldwide losing a cumulative amount of around $42bn. The arrest warrant reportedly follows an extended period of search-and-seizure operations from South Korean authorities. “An arrest warrant has been issued for a total of six people, including Do Kwon, who are currently residing in Singapore,” a spokesperson for South Korean prosecutors announced in a statement on Wednesday. No reason was specified. Kwon announced in a public interview in August that he had moved to Singapore for his family’s safety. US authorities have also recently been cracking down on the crypto industry. In July, for example, The New York Times reported that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control was probing the crypto exchange company Kraken for allegedly violating US sanction law by making its services available to customers in Iran, Syria and Cuba. ‘The merge’ finally arrives This afternoon, at around 3 pm ET, the Ethereum network is schedule to transition away from a “Proof-of-Stake” (PoS) system and onto a “Proof-of-Work” (PoW) system — a highly anticipated event known in the crypto community as “the merge.” If everything goes according to plan, the pivotal event could lead to as much as a 99% reduction in the amount of energy that Ethereum requires to run. It could also turn Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, Ether (or ETH), deflationary — meaning the supply will hypothetically decrease over time — which could in turn attract more investors and raise its price. For a more detailed explanation of the merge and why it matters, click here. iHeartMedia sets up shop in Roblox Media company iHeartMedia announced on Wednesday that it has cut the ribbon on iHeartLand on Roblox, a new virtual experience designed to establish the brand “as a go-to destination and pioneer in the rapidly-expanding metaverse,” pera press release. iHeartMedia has partnered with Intel and State Farm for its new Roblox activation; the famous Jake from State Farm will also be (virtually) present – presumably wearing khakis. The media company appears to be trying to attract a younger audience to its new virtual landscape through musical appeal. Visitors will be challenged to collect “song energy” rewards in an effort “to power their own [virtual] customized music studio as well as unlock upgrades, fan experiences and rewards,” per the press release. A pre-recorded performance from the singer-songwriter Lauv will play this Friday from the State Farm Park — described as “the epicenter of iHeartLand” — and fans can take pictures of an avatar of Lauv (that won’t actually be controlled by anyone). iHeartLand on Roblox will also host an album release party for singer-songwriter Charlie Puth on October 7, “a special podcast event” with The Trap Nerds and several other scheduled “can’t-miss events in the next year.” “We’re always looking for more ways to connect with our audience and provide the kind of unique experiences only iHeartMedia can offer, and we’re thrilled to expand our footprint in the metaverse by opening iHeartLand on Roblox,” Conal Byrne, chief executive of the iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group, said in the press release. “Our scale and reach across all forms of entertainment give iHeart an elite position to bring the hottest artists, freshest music and biggest podcasts to Roblox. iHeartLand on Roblox is set to blow all expectations away.” iHeartMedia debuted iHeartLand in Fortnite less than one month ago. Kingship partners with Grammy-winners James Fauntleroy and Hit-Boy Kingship is hoping to make some hits in the metaverse through a new collaboration with Hit-Boy and James Fauntleroy, both of whom have signed on as co-executive producers and songwriters for the band. Hit-Boy is a Grammy-winning hip-hop producer who’s worked with industry giants like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nas, Beyonce and many others. Fauntleroy is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer who has also worked with some of the GOATs. “I’m always looking to push things forward musically,” Hit-Boy said in a press release, “and this is a great opportunity to do something new in the web3 space.” The faces of Kingship are three Bored Ape NFTs and one Mutant Ape NFT, giving them – at least optically – a Gorillaz vibe. The band was launched by 10:33pm, Universal Music Group’s web3 label. News of the band’s collaboration with Hit-Boy and Fauntleroy arrives less than one month after the band announced a partnership with Mars, International, which featured M&Ms emblazoned with the bandmembers’ cartoon-simian faces. According to the press release, Hit-Boy and Fauntleroy will be working with Arnell, the Mutant Ape member of the band who’s also Kingship’s DJ. The Best Extension Cords For Your Home And Garage In 2022 – National Today https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-best-extension-cords-for-your-home-and-garage-in-2022-national-today/ Extension cords are popular among homeowners and DIYers as they provide an easy way to add more outlets or power to your home or garage. These cords are often overlooked in favor of more high-tech electrical gadgets, but they’re an essential part of keeping your home or garage running smoothly. When shopping for an extension cord, it’s important to consider the length and gauge of the cord. It’s also important to consider the amount of electrical current the cord can carry so that you can power power-intensive appliances. If you’re looking for an extension cord that’s high-quality, durable, and affordable, look no further. Our selections are perfect for any home or garage. You can rest easy knowing that our picks are made from quality materials and each one boasts additional features that guarantee longevity and efficiency. How We Picked Length The length of the extension cord is a crucial feature because it determines how far away you can plug in appliances without having to re-wire. A long cord can help you cover more ground by making it easier to reach an outlet from across the room. Durability This feature is a good indicator of how long an extension cord will last. A good cord should be made from the highest quality material and carry a decent amount of current. This is the simplest way to ensure that you don’t replace your cord every other day. Flexibility If you plan on adding outlets to hard-to-reach places like underneath cabinets or behind furniture, an extra-flexible extension cord might be better for your needs than one that is rigid and stiff. Cost-Effectiveness Not all extension cords are made equal. Some are more expensive than others, so it is important to look into the features of each one and compare them with their prices. This will help you pick an extension cord that provides great quality without causing a dent in your budget. An extension cord that is a great fit for the job — ensuring high-quality dependence and preventing fire hazards from weak or unregulated power connectivity. Who This Is For These extension cords are designed for use in your home and garage, as well as in other areas where you need extra power. They are also ideal for use in areas where you need to run a lot of appliances at once. Some homeowners may need an extension cord that has multiple outlets or is heavy-duty enough to handle the weight of a power tool. Others may only need a light-duty extension cord that can handle basic tasks such as plugging in lamps without any issues whatsoever. Whichever power capacity you need, whether you need a cord to connect two outlets or an extension cord that can support an entire room’s worth of appliances, we have the right one for your needs! How do extension cords work? An extension cord can be a lifesaver when you need to plug in something that’s out of reach. Whether it’s for added length between your wall plug and the outlet in the garage or a power strip that needs to stretch from one end of your workbench to the other, there are cords for your home and garage that can help. They are useful when you need to use multiple appliances and devices in one room, such as a hair dryer, a computer system, a refrigerator, a television set, or an air conditioner, depending on the power capacity of the extension cord. Extension cords have two parts: a cord and an adapter. The cord plugs into one end of the adapter, while the other end plugs into an outlet in your home or garage, allowing you to connect multiple devices at once. An extension cord provides extra length, so it can be used anywhere within a socket’s reach. Extension cords come in various lengths, but their main purpose is to connect two outlets. Each line on an extension cord has either two or three prongs, depending on its size. The larger the number of prongs, the greater the current carrying capacity of the cord will be. To provide power to the connected device, extension cords use one or more wire connections. These wires transfer electric current from the socket to the appliance or device. The current travels through each wire in succession until it reaches its destination. If there are multiple connected appliances and devices on the extension cord, each one will receive its share of electricity from the socket. Are extension cords weatherproof? While extension cords can be made out of various materials, the best ones are weatherproof and durable. This means that they won’t break or fail under extreme conditions like rain or snow — just like your home’s electrical system needs to be protected from the elements. In addition to being durable, weatherproof extension cords have a high level of quality control. They are tested by independent laboratories before being released onto the market so that you know exactly what kind of materials were used in their construction and how they will perform when exposed to harsh elements like rain, heavy wind, or snow in your garage. By choosing one of our recommended weatherproof extension cords, you can be assured that it will last through many years of use while protecting your home’s wiring system from damage caused by water or other elements. What are the maximum amp and wattage an extension cord can handle Maximum Amperage is the maximum amount of electricity an extension cord can carry safely. Most extension cords have this listed on their packaging or on the product itself. The higher the amperage, the more powerful the extension cord will be able to do its job. On the other hand, maximum wattage is another term for power — it is how much energy a tool can use at one time. Again, most extension cords have this information listed somewhere on their packaging or product itself so you don’t have any surprises when it comes time to plug in that high-power electric lawnmower to your extension cord! The maximum wattage an extension cord can handle also depends on where it’s being used and how much electricity you’re using at once. The best extension cords for your home and garage are those that have a rating of at least 15 amps and 5,000 watts. This means that they will be able to handle the most powerful appliances and tools you have in your home or garage. However, make sure the extension cord you choose has an amp rating equal to or higher than the appliance it is being used with. For example, if you’re planning on using an extension cord with a 12-volt air compressor, make sure it has an amp rating of at least 15 amps. If it does not have this rating, then it may not be able to handle the current from the air compressor. You should also avoid using extension cords that have too low of an amp rating because they won’t be able to provide enough power for the job at hand without overheating or increasing their resistance due to excessive heat buildup within them over time. Why You Should Trust Us Extension cords are a necessity for many homeowners and renters. They are used to connect multiple appliances, such as lights, heaters, and power tools, to one outlet. Extension cords can be used to extend the length of an electrical cord by several feet for your convenience. If you’re like most homeowners, you’ve probably already got a bunch of discarded extension cords — that have failed in durability or lack important and additional features — laying around your home. If you’re still not sure where to start, then let us help! We know you want to get the most for your money, and that’s why we’ve made this list of our top picks. We’ve researched for you and have the necessary information you need to make an informed decision on which cords are best for you. How We Picked While conducting in-depth research, we avidly considered certain necessary features and factors to pick the best and most-impressive extension cords that are up to the task. Length It is important to know how long your extension cord will be, so you can ensure it will reach all of the electrical devices you would like to connect to it. Additionally, if you’re using an extension cord that is plugged into a socket in one room but is needed to power a tool or appliance in another room or a more distant location in your garage, then the length of the extension cord must be long enough to go around corners and reach its destination. You should look for an extension cord with a maximum length of 20 feet or more. Durability Durable extension cords are designed to last longer than their counterparts and make sure that you don’t have to worry about them failing on you at a crucial moment. A durable extension cord can be used to power high-energy tools and other appliances in your garage or home within its wattage range w...

(Kitco News) – The regulatory landscape in China just got a little more complicated as a Chinese court has ruled that citizens can still trade cryptos despite the country’s ban on digital asset services and cryptocurrency trading.  According to a recent ruling from the Beijing Number One Intermediate People’s Court, investors are allowed to trade cryptocurrencies but indicated that they should be treated as virtual assets instead of currencies.  The ruling arose from a case involving a crypto loan that was made using Litecoin (LTC) back in 2015. Zhai Wenjie indicated that he loaned his friend Ding Hao 50,000 Litecoin with the agreement that Hao would pay 1,000 LTC in monthly interest.  According to the court, since Litecoin is not issued by a monetary authority and lacks backing from legal and financial frameworks, it cannot be treated as a currency.  “According to real administrative regulations and cases, our country only denies the monetary attributes of virtual currency and prohibits its circulation as currency, but the virtual currency itself is a virtual property protected by the law,” the court ruled. The judge on the case cited a lack of laws prohibiting the perception of Litecoin as an illegal asset, which led the judge to rule in favor of the plaintiff and ordered Hao to return the LTC to Wenjie.  Despite the ban on cryptocurrency services in China, recent data from Chainalysis shows that Chinese citizens have been increasingly utilizing centralized services to get access to crypto, which suggests the ban is being loosely enforced. China currently ranks tenth globally in terms of crypto adoption.  SWIFT explores the use of blockchain technology to improve efficiency Thailand bans crypto lending and staking products Meanwhile, In Thailand, a Thursday press release from the country’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) indicates that the regulator has prohibited cryptocurrency companies from offering digital asset lending and staking products or depository services.  The reason for the decision is to protect traders and the general public from business risks associated with companies offering these services and to protect users from utilizing services that they think meet regulatory requirements – but do not.  This ruling follows the collapse of several notable lending, staking and depository platforms, including the decentralized finance protocol Terra, and the centralized finance providers Celsius and Voyager.  The SEC cited a widespread lack of risk management from crypto stakers and liquidity issues that have led some providers to stop their services and suspend the withdrawal of digital assets as reasons why this ruling was needed. Authorities in Thailand have been tightening their control over the crypto industry in the country since being criticized for failing to protect local investors at Zipmex, a licensed crypto exchange that temporarily suspended withdrawals in July.    Disclaimer: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and may not reflect those of Kitco Metals Inc. Nevada Looks To Conservation As The Colorado River Dwindles The Washington Post
Nevada Looks To Conservation As The Colorado River Dwindles The Washington Post
Nevada Looks To Conservation As The Colorado River Dwindles – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/nevada-looks-to-conservation-as-the-colorado-river-dwindles-the-washington-post/ LAS VEGAS — Only a few miles from the Las Vegas Strip, in the Mojave Desert, is an unlikely scene: A county park with walking trails and thick vegetation that circles a vibrant rush of flowing water. Known as the Las Vegas Wash, the water running through this channel is a crucial part of how Nevada has managed to keep its net Colorado River use below its allocation, despite booming population growth and two decades of persistent drought, worsened by a changing climate. Every time a shower or a faucet is turned on in Las Vegas, the water flowing down the drain is treated at wastewater plants and recycled. The treated water is discharged into the wash, which flows into Lake Mead, a declining Colorado River reservoir held back by the Hoover Dam. Once there, the water can be used for a second time, effectively increasing Nevada’s overall portfolio. “It allows Las Vegas to exist in its present form,” said John Hiatt, a conservationist who sits on a coordination committee for the wash. “(Without it), we’d be half our size and really struggling.” EDITOR’S NOTE: This is part of a collaborative series on the Colorado River as the 100th anniversary of the historic Colorado River Compact approaches. The Associated Press, The Colorado Sun, The Albuquerque Journal, The Salt Lake Tribune, The Arizona Daily Star and The Nevada Independent are working together to explore the pressures on the river in 2022. When the Colorado River Compact was negotiated in the early 1900s, only about 5,000 people lived in Clark County, home to Las Vegas. Few envisioned the massive growth that has turned the desert into a sprawling paved landscape of nearly 2.2 million people — and growing. Accordingly, the compact gave Nevada the smallest cut of the Colorado River: 1.8 percent, or just 300,000 acre-feet (an acre foot is the amount of water needed to fill an acre to a depth of one foot). The small share has meant Nevada has long had to live on a tight water budget and rely on conservation measures that are only now being considered by other Western states. Unlike other states, Nevada has one main river user: Las Vegas. It is responsible for more than 90 percent of the state’s diversions, with additional water going to the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, whose rights were recognized in a 1963 Supreme Court case, and other small water users. For decades, Las Vegas has relied on wastewater recycling and removing water-guzzling lawns to stretch and conserve its small Colorado River share. But even with proactive management, it could face significant challenges and uncertainties when it comes to future population growth. “We still have some room with the water resources we have today,” said Assemblyman Howard Watts, a Democrat who has worked on water issues for years, including in the Legislature. “But eventually we’re going to reach a point where we’re going to go past that limit and that’s when we really have to consider what a sustainable path is for Southern Nevada moving forward.” Many of the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s future planning scenarios are premised on an ability to collaborate with other states to augment Las Vegas’s current supply. Yet negotiations over the Colorado River have become increasingly difficult for the seven states that rely on the shrinking river and its reservoirs, including Lake Mead, which is dropping to critically low levels. Nevada, even though it has a small slice of the Colorado River, has a huge stake in those talks. Las Vegas is reliant on the Colorado River. It’s the source of about 90 percent of the city’s water supply. The remainder comes from a local groundwater aquifer, which was historically overused. Any other water in Nevada is far away. For years, Las Vegas had looked to import rural eastern Nevada groundwater hundreds of miles away as a potential supply. But local water managers shelved the controversial plan in 2020 amid legal challenges and concerns about environmental impacts. While it still owns ranches in eastern Nevada, the water authority has said its focus is on supplementing its supply through collaboration, including a recycling project in California. How Southern Nevada has managed to grow, thus far, on such a tight supply has everything to do with the Las Vegas Wash, which empties into Lake Mead. Colby Pellegrino, deputy general manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority, described the natural stream as something of a “a silent miracle.” The wash enabled Las Vegas to scale-up one of the largest municipal water recycling programs in the nation — and increase its Colorado River share by about 85 percent. Because nearly all indoor water in Southern Nevada is treated and returned to the wash, it has allowed Las Vegas to focus its conservation efforts on aggressive turf removal. This, combined with water recycling, has meant that Nevada has under-used its Colorado River apportionment. As of Aug. 29, the state was forecast to use about 241,490 acre-feet of water, about 20 percent less than its 300,000 acre-foot allocation. Nevada, as a result, can easily absorb an 8 percent cut to its water supply next year without any significant changes to municipal water deliveries. As for future growth, Pellegrino said “it depends on how we grow.” “The future of our growth has to have the smallest water footprint possible,” she added. Las Vegas is preparing for the realities of a shrinking river by setting even deeper restrictions for conservation — with a target goal of decreasing per capita water use from about 110 gallons per capita per day to 86 gallons per capita per day by 2035. The water authority’s plan for doing so includes a transition from evaporative cooling, pool size limits and prohibiting new golf courses. But with only 1.8 percent of the Colorado River, Las Vegas cannot fix the problem on its own. In a recent letter, water authority General Manager John Entsminger called for swift cuts aimed at stabilizing the Colorado River’s reservoirs while longer-term agreements can be negotiated. The water authority has also led on pushing states to incorporate climate change in their planning. Hiatt, on the Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee, came to Southern Nevada in the 1970s, when the population of Clark County was about 350,000 people. He said he is concerned about what a future might look like as climate change continues altering the river’s flows. If conserved water is only re-dedicated to new growth, he worries “we’re going to be in the same position of pushing against our allotment — and our allotment may be significantly lower than it is now.” “It’s hard to believe anyone is going to come out with more water,” he added.

Southwest Forecasts A Slower Recovery In Business Travel – News10NBC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/southwest-forecasts-a-slower-recovery-in-business-travel-news10nbc/ FILE – Southwest Airlines planes taxi at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, July 17, 2019. Southwest Airlines said Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, that corporate travel is recovering more slowly than the airline had expected, although that is offset by continuing strong demand from leisure travelers even after the end of the traditional summer vacation season. (AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin, File)[ASSOCIATED PRESS/Ross D. Franklin] DALLAS (AP) — Southwest Airlines said Thursday that corporate travel is recovering more slowly than the airline had expected, although that is offset by continuing strong demand from leisure travelers even after the end of the traditional summer vacation season. Southwest said revenue from “managed” business travel in the quarter ending Sept. 30 will be down 26% to 28% from 2019 levels. That’s a retreat from Southwest’s earlier forecast of a 17% to 21% decline, which the airline attributed to “softer” last-minute business-travel bookings since late July. The Dallas-based airline said, however, that business travel has picked up after Labor Day — as it usually does — echoing similar comments by Delta Air Lines on Wednesday. Southwest caters mostly to leisure travelers but has been making a big push to attract more corporate business, putting it in more direct competition with American, Delta and United. Southwest offered the third-quarter commentary in a securities filing that generally repeated previous forecasts, including that overall revenue will be about 10% higher than the same period in 2019. Southwest said it had a good Labor Day weekend and revenue is still trending higher than in 2019. “Although early in the booking curve, the company continues to experience strong revenue trends in fourth quarter 2022,” it said. Shares of Southwest fell more than 2% in late-morning trading, while other major U.S. airline stocks rose by 2% to 3%. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Lymphoma Awareness Day: KIMS Expert In Bhubaneswar Advises Healthy Lifestyle Against Disease – Odishabytes – OdishaBytes https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/lymphoma-awareness-day-kims-expert-in-bhubaneswar-advises-healthy-lifestyle-against-disease-odishabytes-odishabytes/ Bhubaneswar: Medical experts advised the people having swelling of lymph nodes with symptoms like fever, anemia, jaundice and weakness to consult a specialist doctor as it might lead to lymphoma. Speaking on the occasion of World Lymphoma Awareness Day (WLAD) on Thursday, Assistant Professor Dr Jogamaya Pattnaik of the Department of Medical Oncology, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences in Bhubaneswar said, “The diagnosis requires a biopsy and histopathology with a whole body scan and bone marrow tests. Once the diagnosis establishes that the patient is having lymphoma, the treatment is done mostly by chemotherapy with or without radiotherapy.’’ Early diagnosis and timely treatment are often rewarding in lymphoma, she added. Lymphoma is blood-related or hematological malignancy (uncontrolled growth of cells) and is an increasingly common form of cancer. Dr Pattnaik said one has to fight obesity, adopt a good physical exercise regimen, intake healthy food and avoid red meat, salt and sugar to keep the disease away. WLAD is observed on September 15 every year as the day is meant to create awareness of lymphoma. The theme of this year’s WLAD is “We Can’t-Wait to address the ways the pandemic has affected people living with lymphomas.” It is a global initiative hosted by the Lymphoma Coalition which has 52 member nations. WLAD was initiated in 2004 to raise public awareness of the disease. Lymphoma causes issues in the entire lymphatic system in a human being as it is also the germ-fighting network. The broad symptoms could be lymphatic node swelling, never-ending fatigue, night sweats, fever, difficulty in breathing and unexplained weight loss. The entire lymphatic system includes lymph nodes, spleen, thymus gland and bone marrow.
