Ecarma’s Narra health supplement helps strengthen immune system
An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, and what better way to keep infections at bay than strengthening the immune system? In this day and age where Covid-19, monkeypox, influenza, and other afflictions disrupt daily life, strengthening the body and mind is crucial to combating these health risks and ensuring a good quality of life.
Besides getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and having a balanced diet, a healthy lifestyle can include taking health supplements that are rich in antioxidants. Narra extract, in particular, such as Ecarma tea and capsules, can significantly improve the body’s defenses against various diseases, both for healthy people and especially for those who are already at risk.
Ecarma’s contain pure Philippine Narra extract, an effective immune-booster and excellent source of antioxidants that help with heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic diseases.
Based on the study by Xu and colleagues from the Yanbian University in China last year, the potent antioxidant pterostilbene is found in Philippine Narra which is proven to strengthen the immune system. The researchers also observed that pterostilbene is also anti-asthma, anti-cancer, antifungal, antiulcer, and anti-allergy.
Virgilio Miguel Hernandez, a 66-year-old former Telco manager, used to suffer from high blood pressure, which can cause heart failure, memory and thinking problems, and osteoporosis when left unmanaged. Thanks to Ecarma, Hernandez noticed his blood pressure stabilize, improving his daily living. “I took [the] Ecarma capsule once a day, then Ecarma tea twice a day. I experienced the difference after a month. [My blood pressure] stabilized at—would you believe—120/80,” he said.
Previously, Hernandez said that he last had his current blood pressure of 120/80 in his 40s and now at his age, he’s happy that it has stabilized an overall improvement in his health.
“We at Ecarma Health Options strongly believe in the health-giving power of Philippine Narra. Through our Ecarma tea and capsules, we hope to extend Narra’s immune-boosting benefits, improving the quality of life of Filipinos across the country.” Ecarma Health Options President TJ Meneses asserted.
Ecarma Immun Herbal Capsules and Ecarma Herbal Tea can be found in Mercury Drug stores nationwide, St. Joseph Drugstores, and in Shopee and Lazada.

NFL Week 2 Injuries: Keenan Allen Ruled Out For Chargers Vs. Chiefs; D’Andre Swift Dealing With Ankle Injury – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/nfl-week-2-injuries-keenan-allen-ruled-out-for-chargers-vs-chiefs-dandre-swift-dealing-with-ankle-injury-cbs-sports/
The 2022 NFL season is officially underway, and the next few months are about to feel like a fever dream. It seems as though Week 1 of the regular season just ended, but Week 2 officially begins tomorrow! We unfortunately saw several injuries around the league in the first week of the season — including some big names going down. Pittsburgh Steelers star pass-rusher T.J. Watt suffered a pec injury that will cost him some time, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a thumb injury that required surgery.
Below, we will break down the midweek injury reports, and the final injury report for Thursday night’s matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs.
All odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook.
Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs (-4)
Chargers: WR Keenan Allen (hamstring), TE Donald Parham Jr. (hamstring) OUT; CB J.C. Jackson (ankle) QUESTIONABLE
Chiefs: K Harrison Butker (left ankle) OUT; OG Trey Smith (ankle) QUESTIONABLE
Justin Herbert and Co. will have to face the Chiefs without starting wideout Keenan Allen, who has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Parham will miss this game as well. One of his best career games actually came against Kansas City, as he caught three passes for 37 yards and a touchdown in K.C. last year. Jackson is questionable to play in what could be his first action of the season, as he’s been sidelined due to an ankle procedure. Jackson was projected to be a limited participant in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, although head coach Brandon Staley sounded like things were moving in the right direction.
Butker will miss Week 2 after slipping on a kickoff in the season opener and injuring his ankle. Former New York Jets kicker Matt Amendola is expected to replace him, per ESPN. Second-year offensive guard Trey Smith is an important facet of this offensive line, and he is officially questionable to play. He was limited on Monday and Tuesday due to an ankle injury, but was a full participant on Wednesday, which is a positive development.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5) at New Orleans Saints
Tom Brady was given a rest day by the Buccaneers and did not participate in practice. Meanwhile, receivers Russell Gage (hamstring), Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Julio Jones (knee) all did not practice due to injury reasons. Corner Zyon McCollum (hamstring) and tackle Donovan Smith (elbow) also didn’t practice. Meanwhile, receiver Mike Evans (calf), running back Leonard Fournette (hamstring), receiver Breshad Perriman (knee), and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs (abdomen) were all limited.
Cornerback Paulson Adebo (ankle) was the only Saints player missing from practice, but they had a boatload of folks listed as limited. Jameis Winston headlines that group as the team notes he is dealing with a back injury. Running back Mark Ingram (ankle), defensive end Cameron Jordan (hip), running back Alvin Kamara (ribs), safety Marcus Maye (ankle), receiver Tre’Quan Smith (shoulder), cornerback Alontae Taylor (hip), guard Calvin Throckmorton (illness), running back Dwayne Washington (hamstring), and tackle Landon Young (hip) were all limited as well.
Carolina Panthers at New York Giants (-2)
Just two players sat out of practice on Wednesday for Carolina, as defensive end Marquis Haynes is nursing a hip injury, while star running back Christian McCaffrey sat out just to rest. Linebacker Frankie Luvu (shoulder) and linebacker Brandon Smith (thigh) were limited, as was star right tackle Taylor Moton, who is dealing with a knee injury. He was seen working through individual drills wearing a brace on his right knee.
In New York, the Giants were without defensive backs Nick McCloud (hamstring) and Aaron Robinson (appendicitis) on Wednesday along with wideout Wan’Dale Robinson (knee). Center Jon Feliciano (lower leg), defensive end, Azzez Ojulari (calf), defensive back Jason Pinnock (shoulder), and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux (knee) were all limited.
Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens (-3.5)
Terron Armstead (toe) was held out of Dolphins practice on Wednesday, but also mentioned that he was given a veteran rest day, so this situation doesn’t seem as ominous. Linebacker Melvin Ingram was also given a veteran rest day. Elsewhere, Salvon Ahmed (heel), tight end Cethan Carter (concussion), offensive lineman Austin Jackson (ankle), and wideout Cedrick Wilson Jr. (toe) were all DNPs due to injury reasons. Tight end Tanner Conner (knee) and safety Eric Rowe (pectoral) were limited.
Fullback Patrick Ricard (calf) was the only Raven missing from practice due to injury. Defensive end Calais Campbell and pass rusher Justin Houston were given rest days. Meanwhile, running back J.K. Dobbins (knee) was a full participant, as defensive tackle Travis Jones (knee), cornerback Marcus Peters (knee), wideout James Proche II (groin), tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) and defensive back Brandon Stephens (quad) were all limited.
New York Jets at Cleveland Browns (-6)
The Jets were missing three players when they hit the practice field to begin the week: offensive tackle George Fant (knee), defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers (toe) and safety Jordan Whitehead (ankle). Receiver Braxton Berrios (heel), punter Braden Mann (back), and quarterback Zach Wilson (knee) were all limited. As it relates to Wilson, head coach Robert Saleh did announce on Wednesday that the team will be sticking with veteran Joe Flacco as its starting QB in Week 2.
Meanwhile, the Browns gave wideout Amari Cooper a veteran rest day, but did hold out fellow receiver Michael Woods II due to an illness. Offensive lineman Jack Conklin (knee) was limited.
Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions (-1.5)
Washington listed guard Wes Schweitzer as the only player to not participate on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury. Fellow guard Trai Turner (quad), linebacker Jamin Davis (not injury related), safety Kamren Curl (thumb), and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen (groin) were all limited.
The Detroit Lions had a number of key players missing from practice on Wednesday, including star running back D’Andre Swift, who is dealing with an ankle injury. Along with Swift, center Frank Ragnow (groin, foot), defensive lineman Michael Brockers (knee), guard Tommy Kraemer (back), and offensive tackle Taylor Decker (calf) were all held out. Guard Jonah Jackson (finger) and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (hamstring) were both limited.
Indianapolis Colts (-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars
Colts have a couple of key wide receiver banged up as the prepare to take on Jacksonville. On Wednesday, the team listed rookie Alec Pierce as a non-participant due to a concussion while Michael Pittman Jr. was limited with a hip injury. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (hip) was also held out of practice and corner Kenny Moore II (hip) was limited.
The Jaguars had no injuries to report.
New England Patriots (-1.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers
Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was a full participant in practice on Wednesday after suffering a back injury in the opener against Miami. That would signal that he is in line to play in Week 2 in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley (toe) did not practice. Safeties Joshuah Bledsoe (groin) and Adrian Phillips (ribs) were limited as were running back Pierre Strong Jr. (shoulder) and cornerback Shaun Wade (ankle).
As the Steelers hit the practice field, they were, of course, without pass rusher T.J. Watt (pectoral). He’s already been ruled out for this matchup against New England, but the injury may not keep him out for the entire season. Running back Najee Harris (foot) was limited, as was cornerback Levi Wallace (ankle) and offensive lineman Mason Cole (ankle). Linebacker Rob Spillane (eye) was listed as a full participant.
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers (-9.5)
Seattle guard Gabe Jackson was given a veteran rest day Wednesday. Meanwhile, safety Jamal Adams was listed as a non-participant after a suffering a knee injury Monday that Pete Carroll called “serious” and could reportedly be season-ending. Cornerback Artie Burns (groin), defensive end Shelby Harris (back) and safety Quandre Diggs (knee) were also held out. Rookie running back Ken Walker (hernia) practiced fully.
George Kittle still is not practicing with the 49ers as he battles a groin injury. Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (hamstring) did not practice, nor fellow lineman Trent Williams, but he was given a veteran rest day. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw (elbow) was limited.
Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams (-10.5)
Running back Damien Williams (ribs) was unable to practice Wednesday, but the team did see rookie wideout Drake London (knee) practice fully.
Los Angeles held out center Brian Allen (knee), wideout Van Jefferson (knee), offensive lineman Joe Noteboom (knee) and long snapper Matthew Orzech (calf) on Wednesday. Meanwhile, linebacker Leonard Floyd was limited with a knee injury.
Arizona Cardinals at Las Vegas Raiders (-5.5)
The Cardinals gave offensive linemen Kelvin Beachum and Rodney Hudson veteran rest days. However, the team also held out tight end Zach Ertz (calf), safety Jalen Thompson (toe), defensive lineman J.J. Watt (calf) and wideouts Andy Isabella (back) and Rondale Moore (hamstring) due to a variety of injuries. Cornerback Trayvon Mullen Jr. (toe) and offensive lineman Justin Pugh (neck) were limited.
In Las Vegas, the Raiders were without running back Brandon Bolden (hamstring), center Andre James (concussion), safety Trevon Moehrig (hip), and linebacker Denzel Perryman (ankle).
Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5) at Dallas Cowboys
Wideout Trent Taylor (hamstring) and defensive tackle Josh Tupou (shin) were the two players missing ...

Metaverse, VR In Spotlight As Tokyo Game Show Kicks Off – Kyodo News Plus https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/metaverse-vr-in-spotlight-as-tokyo-game-show-kicks-off-kyodo-news-plus/
The Tokyo Game Show started on Thursday, returning to a fully in-person format for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus, with metaverse and virtual reality titles and technologies coming under the spotlight.
The annual extravaganza for video-game lovers, one of the biggest of its kind in the world, will be held at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe convention center, near Tokyo, through Sunday. The first two days are mainly reserved for media reporters and industry officials, with general visitors allowed in from Friday afternoon.
The Tokyo Game Show opens at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe convention center on Sept. 15, 2022. (Kyodo)
It was the first time for the show to welcome attendance from the general public after being held largely online for the past two years because of the coronavirus pandemic. The organizer expects to attract 150,000 visitors during the four-day period this year.
About 600 companies and organizations from 37 countries, including Japanese giants Capcom Co. and Square Enix Co., have participated in the event. Part of its contents can also be accessed online, according to the organizer, the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association.
Metaverse has become a buzzword in the game industry and beyond as more companies from game developers to banks have started to see a business potential in a virtual world that allows users to experience shopping, attend events and communicate with each other just like in the real world.
Facebook Inc., the operator of its namesake social media, changed its name to Meta Platforms Inc. last year to focus on its metaverse business, bringing public attention to the previously relatively unknown area.
With the country increasingly easing anti-virus restrictions, the number of participating organizations recovered to about 90 percent of that of 2019, which stood at 655. The number of titles exhibited came to 1,864, surpassing 1,522 in 2019.
The Tokyo Game Show is one of the world’s three biggest gaming events, along with E3 in the United States and Gamescom in Germany.
Preview: 2024 Ford Mustang Injects Modern Tech Into The Traditional Pony Car Motor Authority
Preview: 2024 Ford Mustang Injects Modern Tech Into The Traditional Pony Car – Motor Authority https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/preview-2024-ford-mustang-injects-modern-tech-into-the-traditional-pony-car-motor-authority/
The Ford Mustang started the pony car segment when it hit the market in 1964. Now, it will carry the torch for that segment in an automotive market switching to electric vehicles.
On Wednesday, Ford introduced the 2024 Mustang at the Detroit auto show. The iconic pony car will continue on the same platform with a revised look, a pair of gas engines—including the requisite V-8 with up to 500 hp—and a tech-laden interior to attract a new generation of connected buyers. It also adds two cool new features to show off to your friends: Remote Rev and an Electronic Drift Brake.
2024 Ford Mustang
Ford has the Mustang Mach-E crossover to carry the torch for the EV market, but the 2024 Mustang coupe and convertible get updated versions of its previous gas engines. The base 2.3-liter turbo-4 in EcoBoost models adds port and direct injection, gets a higher compression ratio and higher thermal efficiency, and reduces internal friction to make more power and deliver better fuel efficiency. Ford isn’t stating power or fuel economy figures yet, but the current 2.3-liter makes 310 hp or 330 hp with a Performance Pack and gets up to 25 mpg combined.
The revisions to the 5.0-liter V-8 in GT models include a new dual-airbox intake to feed dual electronic throttle bodies and feed more air to the plenum intake manifold. It also has a longer duration exhaust camshaft to handle the increased airflow, and it continues with port and direct injection. The 5.0-liter V-8 in the 2022 Mustang makes 450 hp in the GT and 470 hp in the Mach I. Ford said it’s targeting 500 hp in the 2024 Dark Horse model. Transmission choices will once again be a 10-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual with rev matching for both engines.
2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse
Ford said there will be three Dark Horse models: Dark Horse, Dark Horse S, and Dark Horse R. Shy on details, the automaker said the S model will be a track day car while the R model will be built around a marque-specific race series.
2024 Ford Mustang race cars
The 7th-generation Mustang will go racing across the spectrum participating in NASCAR, GT3, and GT4 classes. Ford mentioned the Mustang will specifically race at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

While the new internally coded S650-generation Mustang was rumored to switch platforms to the CD6 rear- and all-wheel-drive architecture from the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Navigator, it instead stays on the Mustang-specific DC2 platform that’s served the car since 2015. However, Mustang Vehicle Engineering Manager Eddie Kahn told Motor Authority that Ford revised several parts, including the aluminum lower control arms, rear suspension links, shocks, springs, and stabilizer bars, all with the goal of providing better dynamics and responsiveness. Ford also revised the steering system with a stiffer rack and and a faster 15.5:1 steering ratio versus 16.0:1 for the last model.
2024 Ford Mustang
An optional Performance Pack for both the GT and EcoBoost adds a front strut tower brace and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Performance Pack cars can also get a magnetic suspension, wider rear wheels and tires, larger brakes, Recaro bucket seats, and an active exhaust. The GT Performance Pack also gets brake ducts and an auxiliary engine oil cooler for better cooling. Ford mentioned a Handling Package for the Dark Horse model but didn’t elaborate.
Ford will offer three upgraded brake options. The top version, offered for Performance Pack cars, will feature 6-piston front calipers clamping down on 15.4-inch rotors and 4-piston rear calipers with 14.0-inch rear rotors. All of the calipers are by Brembo and will be available in three colors: black, red, or Grabber Blue.
2024 Ford Mustang
The exterior design is an evolution of the throwback look Ford adopted in 2005 and has evolved since. All the body panels are new, and Ford says it will have more downforce than the outgoing model and the lowest coefficient of drag for a Mustang yet. The car gets a lower beltline, which should aid outward vision, more pronounced rear haunches, smoother flanks without as many creases, and revised front and rear fascias with a new take on the Mustang’s tri-bar lighting theme. The noses of the 2.3 and GT models will be unique. Compared to the 2.3, the GT will have struts in the traditional Mustang grille, taller intakes at the corners, and a standard louvered hood vent. Profile images of all seven generations of Mustang will line up along the lower rear glass as one of the car’s Easter eggs. A Bronze Design Series Appearance package will come with bronze alloy wheels and badges.

Inside, the new Mustang goes for revolution. The big change is a healthy injection of technology. Every Mustang will come with a 12.4-inch screen for the digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen. The screens will be separated on the base model, but other models will connect them under a single piece of glass, even though the touchscreen angles toward the driver.
The screens will run Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment interface and be configurable. Ford will include five themes for the instrument cluster: Normal, Sport, Track, Calm, and Fox Body, each with a different digital layout. Fox Body will take on the analog look of the beloved Fox body Mustangs built from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. A MyMustang mode will allow drivers to pull up a three- or five-gauge digital auxiliary gauge layout on the center screen. Another Easter egg? The track icon shown in the Track drive mode display will be Michigan’s Grattan Raceway. The other modes will consist of Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, and a customizable setting with up to six individual profiles.
2024 Ford Mustang
The interior also gets a thicker, flat-bottom steering wheel and improved materials with more soft-touch surfaces and contrast stitching. A new Carmine Red interior color will be offered, and the seats will range from cloth in the base version to cloth and vinyl or to vinyl and leather.
In addition to the line lock and launch control functions of previous Mustangs, owners will have access to two new cool gadgets. The first is an Electronic Drift Brake. It’s an electronic parking brake that the driver controls with a different take on a parking brake handle. Instead of a straight handle, it has a 90-degree bend, and it can be enabled by an icon on the center screen. When used, it automatically puts the car in Track driving mode, and lets drivers control the parking brake like a pro drifter. That’s no coincidence as Ford worked with noted drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. to develop it.
2024 Ford Mustang
The other new feature is a party trick to show off to the neighbors. It’s called Remote Rev and it lets owners not only start the car remotely but also use the key fob to rev the engine and hear its fury.
On the safety front, the new Mustang gets adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, speed limit sign recognition, active lane control, evasive steering assist, and front and rear automatic emergency braking. Performance Pack cars also have Active Pothole Mitigation, which monitors the suspension, body, and steering and braking inputs, and adjusts the suspension to lessen the impact of potholes.
2024 Ford Mustang family
The 2024 Ford Mustang will hit dealerships in early summer 2023. Full specs and pricing will be released closer to the market launch.

Egypt’s Central Bank Issues Crypto Warning — Violators Risk Imprisonment – Regulation Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/egypts-central-bank-issues-crypto-warning-violators-risk-imprisonment-regulation-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has issued a fresh warning about cryptocurrency, noting that violators could face imprisonment. The Egyptian central bank’s law “prohibits issuing, trading, or promoting cryptocurrencies, creating or operating platforms for trading it, or carrying out related activities.”
Crypto Warning Issued by Egypt’s Central Bank
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has renewed its warning about all types of cryptocurrencies, citing a number of risks, including high volatility, use in financial crimes, and e-piracy, Egypt Independent reported Tuesday. The ECB also stressed that crypto is not issued or backed by the central bank or any other official authority.
“In the same context, the Law of the Central Bank of Egypt and the Banking System — promulgated by Law No. 194 of 2020 — prohibits issuing, trading, or promoting cryptocurrencies, creating or operating platforms for trading it, or carrying out related activities,” the CBE statement reads, adding:
Whoever violates this shall be imprisoned, and fined no less than one million pounds and no more than LE10 million [$516,340], or one of these two penalties.
The Egyptian central bank issued a similar warning about cryptocurrencies in January 2018, specifically naming bitcoin, stating:
It is worthy to note that cryptocurrencies are not issued by any central bank, or any official central issuing authority that can be held accountable.
“Moreover, cryptocurrencies are not backed by any tangible assets and are not supervised by any regulators worldwide, and consequently, they lack the official governmental guarantee and support enjoyed by the other official currencies issued by central banks,” the central bank added.
Egypt’s Dar El-Ifta, the government’s principal Islamic institution for issuing fatwas (religious opinions), issued an edict in January 2018, declaring that any and all uses of cryptocurrency were ḥarām, or forbidden — including purchasing, selling, and leasing.

U.S. Blocks $130 Million In Aid To Egypt Over Human Rights The Washington Post
U.S. Blocks $130 Million In Aid To Egypt Over Human Rights – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-blocks-130-million-in-aid-to-egypt-over-human-rights-the-washington-post/
The Biden administration will withhold $130 million in security aid from Egypt for the second consecutive year over its human rights record but will release a separate tranche of $75 million because of Cairo’s steps to free political prisoners.
The split determination on military aid to Egypt, which has been seen as a signal U.S. decision on human rights, illustrates the Biden administration’s attempt to apply continued pressure on the government of President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi over its dismal rights record while rewarding incremental steps by a crucial Middle Eastern ally.
The decision affects only a small share of the annual $1.3 billion in military financing the United States has long provided to Egypt, whose relationship with Israel remains a cornerstone of Washington’s approach to the region. That portion of the aid is subject to evolving congressional conditions related to human rights and the rule of law.
“The purpose going forward is both to secure additional movement with respect to the very serious human rights issues that we’re talking about today and, frankly, sustained cooperation on a huge geopolitical agenda … where Egypt is playing an absolutely vital role in terms of de-escalating regional conflicts,” a senior State Department official, who like other officials spoke on the condition of anonymity under department rules, told reporters.
The decision comes a year after the State Department announced its decision to withhold $130 million in military financing if Egypt did not make improvements on specific conditions in 120 days, a goal that officials later determined Cairo had not met. This time, the administration decided to immediately redirect the $130 million without giving Egypt extra time to comply.
Officials defended their decision to go ahead and provide Egypt with a separate tranche of aid worth $75 million, which had been subject to a different, more narrow set of congressional conditions on treatment of prisoners. They said Egypt had met the requirement for “clear and consistent progress” specified under that law by releasing some 500 political prisoners at the recommendation of a recently created presidential pardons committee. They also cited Sissi’s creation of a national dialogue set up to address an array of issues, including pretrial detention practices.
The State Department’s annual human rights report catalogues far-reaching violations by the Egyptian government, including arbitrary arrest, excessive pretrial detention and torture by government jailers. Under Sissi, political and media freedoms have been restricted.
On Tuesday, a group of lawmakers led by Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urged that aid be withheld and decried what they said was the “ongoing, pervasive, and systemic violations of human rights in Egypt that risk destabilizing the country.”
But Egypt remains a valuable regional partner for the United States in many ways, battling extremists on the Sinai Peninsula and helping to broker a halt to Israeli-Palestinian fighting in 2021.
Nicole Widdersheim, deputy Washington director at Human Rights Watch, welcomed the administration’s attempt to use its leverage with Egypt to address its human rights practices.
“But clearly President Biden could have gone farther to show that he’s truly standing with human rights defenders and pursue an Egyptian policy that matches his stated approach that human rights and democracy will be at the core of U.S. foreign policy,” Widdersheim said.
Amy Hawthorne, deputy director for research at the Project on Middle East Democracy, said the conditions cited on the tranche of $75 million included progress on political prisoners and on due process.
“Any objective observers would say Egypt has not made clear and constant progress on either of those conditions, especially the second one,” she said. “This is rewarding the Egyptian government for something that is at most a half measure.”
Diplomats say the Biden administration, which at times has struggled to reconcile its desire to demonstrate its commitment to human rights with realpolitik concerns amid mounting competition with Russia and China, will continue to push Sissi on those and related issues.
“We’ve conveyed to the Egyptian government consistently that we see the bilateral relationship with Egypt as strengthened when there is progress on human rights,” another senior State Department official said.
The Egyptian Embassy in Washington could not be reached immediately for comment.

Man Suspected In Fire At Mayor’s SW Washington Home Arrested – The Associated Press – En Español https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/man-suspected-in-fire-at-mayors-sw-washington-home-arrested-the-associated-press-en-espanol/
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A man arrested after a burglary at a business in Vancouver, Washington, is also a suspect in a fire set Monday outside the home of the city’s mayor, police said.
The Vancouver Police Department said Wednesday its officers arrested Aiden Murray after surveillance video captured him burglarizing a business, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported.
Police said Murray was arrested inside a business without incident.
Police didn’t immediately say how Murray was linked to a fire started near Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle’s home. According to the mayor, her husband, Terry Ogle, was on the phone Monday evening when the phone line began acting up. When he went outside to inspect the line, he saw a man running away from a fire that had been near the home, according to the mayor.
Ogle extinguished the fire before calling police.
Murray is being held at the Clark County Jail on arson and other charges. It wasn’t immediately known if Murray has a lawyer to comment on the case.
That incident followed a break-in at the McEnerny-Ogle home on Sunday in which some items were taken, the mayor said.

DULUTH — A fire at Central Hillside medical equipment business sent smoke billowing across the neighborhood late Wednesday afternoon.
The Duluth Fire Department is at Lake Superior Medical Equipment, 522 E. Fourth St., where a fire engulfed one of the business’ vans and a stairway on the back side of the building. Firefighters were on the roof of the building and firefighters on the ground were spraying water on the back of the building as of 6:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj said around 6:15 p.m. the department did not know how or where the fire started, but it was likely burning in the medical supply store’s lower unit. A civilian helped evacuate the four apartments above the store, he said.
“We haven’t done any investigation, of course, yet,” Krizaj said. “Right now we’re still just trying to control the fire.”
It was also not known if the fire had spread to adjacent buildings, which share walls with the burning building Firefighters were working to get access to those businesses to check, Krizaj said.
News Tribune reporters on the scene heard explosions or “pops” and a “loud boom” coming from inside the building.
The business provides oxygen concentrators, among other products.
A rally of approximately 500 striking Essentia nurses and their supporters was gathered in the parking lot behind the business and down the alley — near the Ronald McDonald House — when smoke came over the crowd.
Krizaj said someone at the rally smelled smoke and called 911.
Much of the rally moved to St. Luke’s, as scheduled.
This is a developing story; check back for updates.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
Seven Healthy Lifestyle Habits Linked To Lower Risk Of Dementia In People With Diabetes News-Medical.Net
Seven Healthy Lifestyle Habits Linked To Lower Risk Of Dementia In People With Diabetes – News-Medical.Net https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/seven-healthy-lifestyle-habits-linked-to-lower-risk-of-dementia-in-people-with-diabetes-news-medical-net/
A combination of seven healthy lifestyle habits including sleeping seven to nine hours daily, exercising regularly and having frequent social contact was associated with a lower risk of dementia in people with type 2 diabetes, according to a study published in the September 14, 2022, online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Type 2 diabetes is a worldwide epidemic that affects one in 10 adults, and having diabetes is known to increase a person’s risk of developing dementia. We investigated whether a broad combination of healthy lifestyle habits could offset that dementia risk and found that people with diabetes who incorporated seven healthy lifestyle habits into their lives had a lower risk of dementia than people with diabetes who did not lead healthy lives.”
Yingli Lu, MD, PhD, Study Author, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China
For the study, researchers looked at a health care database in the United Kingdom and identified 167,946 people 60 or older with and without diabetes who did not have dementia at the start of the study. Participants completed health questionnaires, provided physical measurements and gave blood samples.
For each participant, researchers calculated a healthy lifestyle score of zero to seven, with one point for each of seven healthy habits. Habits included no current smoking, moderate alcohol consumption of up to one drink a day for women and up to two a day for men, regular weekly physical activity of at least 2.5 hours of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise, and seven to nine hours of sleep daily. Another factor was a healthy diet including more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fish and fewer refined grains, processed and unprocessed meats. The final habits were being less sedentary, which was defined as watching television less than four hours a day, and frequent social contact, which was defined as living with others, gathering with friends or family at least once a month and participating in social activities at least once a week or more often.
Researchers followed participants for an average of 12 years. During that time, 4,351 people developed dementia. A total of 4% of the people followed only zero to two of the healthy habits, 11% followed three, 22% followed four, 30% followed five, 24% followed six and 9% followed all seven.
People with diabetes who followed two or fewer of the seven healthy habits were four times more likely to develop dementia than people without diabetes who followed all seven healthy habits. People with diabetes who followed all of the habits were 74% more likely to develop dementia than those without diabetes who followed all the habits.
For people with diabetes who followed all the habits, there were 21 cases of dementia for 7,474 person years or 0.28%. Person-years represent both the number of people in the study and the amount of time each person spends in the study. For people with diabetes who followed only two or fewer habits, there were 72 cases of dementia for 10,380 person years or 0.69%. After adjusting for factors like age, education and ethnicity, people who followed all the habits had a 54% lower risk of dementia than those who followed two or fewer. Each additional healthy habit people followed was associated with an 11% decreased risk of dementia. The association between healthy lifestyle score and dementia risk was not affected by medications people took or how well they controlled their blood sugar.
“Our research shows that for people with type 2 diabetes, the risk of dementia may be greatly reduced by living a healthier lifestyle,” Lu said. “Doctors and other medical professionals who treat people with diabetes should consider recommending lifestyle changes to their patients. Such changes may not only improve overall health, but also contribute to prevention or delayed onset of dementia in people with diabetes.”
A limitation of the study was that people reported on their lifestyle habits and may not have remembered all details accurately. Lifestyle changes over time were also not captured.
The study was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and other funders.

The Ethereum merge Is Almost Herehow The Historic Upgrade Will Affect Crypto Investors CNBC
The Ethereum ‘merge’ Is Almost Here—how The Historic Upgrade Will Affect Crypto Investors – CNBC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-ethereum-merge-is-almost-here-how-the-historic-upgrade-will-affect-crypto-investors-cnbc/
The Ethereum blockchain, the largest behind bitcoin, is about to undergo the beginnings of a major upgrade.
Dubbed the “merge,” Ethereum is switching to a more energy-efficient method of validating transactions that take place on the platform, known as proof of stake.
The upgrade is similar to how the transition away from using dial-up modems to fiberoptics enabled the internet to be used for a wider variety of things, such as video, online storage and music streaming, Greg King, founder and CEO of Osprey Funds, tells CNBC Make It.
Here’s a look at what the merge means and how it will affect crypto investors.
What is proof of stake?
The merge will transition the blockchain from a proof-of-work (PoW) model to a proof-of-stake (PoS) model. Both are algorithms used to allow users to add new cryptocurrency transactions and keep a record of them on a blockchain network.
The current proof-of-work model requires massive amounts of energy to power computers that race to solve complicated math equations in order to validate transactions.
Proof of stake, on the other hand, requires users to have a “stake” in the blockchain, as the name implies.
This means that Ethereum users will need to make a pretty hefty investment upfront in order to authenticate transactions. However, this model is expected to be much less energy intensive.
How will this affect investors and potential investors?
Although the Ethereum merge isn’t expected to make the network faster or lower transaction costs immediately, investors may see benefits down the road.
“While no outcome is certain, the merge could be bullish for crypto investors in the long run due to the groundwork it lays for future upgrades to speed, fees and ecosystem development,” says King.
Quicker transactions and lower fees could eventually lead to more users as well, which could affect the value of ether, Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, which investors use to make transactions of the platform.
If the number of investors increases, the supply of ether should go down, says Vladimir Gorbunov, CEO and founder of the MetaFi ecosystem Choise.com. And as the supply of ether decreases, the value of individual coins could increase, which would be welcome news for investors.
Ether is valued at about $1,600 per coin as of Sept. 14, 2022, according to Coin Metrics — down from an all-time high of about $4,892 in November of last year.
How will this impact the environment?
As previously mentioned, the merge is expected to make the blockchain more energy efficient.
Currently, Ethereum’s carbon emissions are on par with Singapore and its total energy consumption is comparable to the Netherlands, according to its website.
The merge is expected to lower Ethereum’s carbon footprint by over 99%, which could make the platform more attractive to environmentally conscious investors.
Will the merge make Ethereum less vulnerable to hackers?
“The merge will definitely make Ethereum more secure,” says Gorbunov. After the merge, the required initial investment to validate transactions on the blockchain would cost around $55,000 or 33 ETH, he says.
That’s a cost everyone, including hackers, would have to bear in order to get into the network in the first place. Due to that barrier, Gorbunov expects Ethereum to become a lot safer.
However, the blockchain will always be vulnerable to hackers, King warns.
“After the merge, Ethereum’s susceptibilities may differ due to the underlying design change to the network, but the security risks will always remain the same,” he says. “Cybersecurity risk is always paramount.”
Remember, ether, like many cryptocurrencies, is a highly volatile asset that is subject to unpredictable fluctuations in value with no guarantee of earning a profit. Experts recommend not investing more into these types of assets than you’re willing to potentially lose.

How Technology Can Help Restaurants Address Rising Inflation Challenges | Restaurant Technology News
How Technology Can Help Restaurants Address Rising Inflation Challenges | – Restaurant Technology News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/how-technology-can-help-restaurants-address-rising-inflation-challenges-restaurant-technology-news/
Over the past couple of years the restaurant industry has faced continued challenges, from the rise of the pandemic to today’s rising costs of operations. As the nation faces an economic downturn, restaurant operators need to be flexible in how they manage their business in order to meet customer needs, mitigate rising costs, and maximize available resources. While the industry at large was on the upswing late last year and even a couple of months ago, the shifting economy has left the year ahead uncertain. With varying consumer behaviors that have shifted dine-in/out expectations, restaurants need to be modernized in order to best meet needs.
How The State of the Economy Impacts Restaurant
The U.S Department of Agriculture recorded a 10 percent-plus increase in the Consumer Price Index of food compared to last year, resulting in higher costs of products raising menu items at eateries everywhere. Beyond rising prices, restaurants faced labor difficulties with many owners citing challenges in staffing their operations that led to longer than normal wait times for consumers. While earlier in the year the industry was expected to hit nearly $900 billion in sales, inflation and a looming recession will ultimately change consumer spending in the coming months. This year, there is expected to be a negative discretionary cash flow for the average household not seen since the 2008-09 recession.
It’s the extra dollars in consumers’ pockets that drives spending — and what ultimately leads to restaurant income. A recent survey shows consumers are spending 40 percent of their food budget each month. Simultaneously, restaurants are reporting weaker sales as people are cutting back on dining out to save money. In addition, nine out of ten operators are saying that food costs are higher than before the pandemic started. Restaurants must strategically navigate all of this to survive the challenging industry climate.
Menu Modification to Lesson Costs and Revenue Impact
Restaurants are cautious when choosing to raise their prices, as doing so can ultimately drive customers away. Before making the decision to do so, they might want to consider creative solutions. With the current state of inflation, the price of products are up, so taking a deep dive into the ingredients used for menu items will be key in order to determine profit margins. Identify the best and worst performing items and review costs/time to prepare meals. Once you have this information, you can start by removing low-performing items, as well as anything that leads to a lean profit margin.
Monitoring and mitigating unnecessary waste might add up to long-term savings. Making too much of one item wastes all the ingredients that could be saved for other days. Training cooks to properly measure portions on plates, as well as amounts being made, will go a long way. Consider tweaking your current offerings to items that are less expensive or that are less susceptible to inflation. Even buying completed foods that only require heating can also reduce prep time. Amid continued challenges, restaurant operators need to be flexible and look at all parts of their operations to make sure they are reducing costs but also maximizing all resources.
Leveraging Technology to Streamline Operations and Increase Customer Satisfaction
One of the most important resources that is often overlooked, underutilized, or just not implemented is technology. With customer expectations leaning toward ease and expediency, the implementation of technology into daily operations is critical to retaining current restaurant goers and attracting new ones. From online ordering to QR codes that can be scanned to access menus, more customers are wanting to engage with restaurants in a digital manner. This can be a big revenue generator for those who decide to implement technology into their operations. Adopting a digital menu accessible via QR code can save costs on printed menus, and for those that provide ordering capabilities along with the menu, it can streamline a guest’s experience.
For those choosing online ordering, mobile applications are another way to engage with a restaurant. Online ordering accounts for about 40 percent of total restaurant sales with online food delivery estimated to reach nearly $340 million in 2022. It’s also a timesaver for restaurants, as employees spend less time taking orders over the phone and can turn their attention to other important tasks. Putting online ordering directly into customer’s hands can easily increase revenue and alleviate staffing needs.
While integrating online ordering can be a lucrative venture, many are wary. Some third-party vendors have been cited collecting up to 30 percent fee for delivery, which thins revenue margins for business. For those wanting to avoid absorbent fees, there are desktop/mobile applications that streamline orders and require a flat monthly fee at a fraction of some of the larger competitors. Technology has become a cornerstone of everyday life and is part of consumers’ decision-making process when it comes to selecting which restaurants to order from.
Restaurants have faced many challenges in the last few years, and they can overcome more on the horizon by being responsive and nimble. From taking an audit of your operations to assessing how to cut costs and increase revenue, operators can come out ahead despite the obstacles. Everything You Need For A Memorable Vacation To South Africa – Energeticcity.ca https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/everything-you-need-for-a-memorable-vacation-to-south-africa-energeticcity-ca/
Cape Town is the southernmost city in Africa and is worth exploring. As the second-largest town in South Africa, this coastal gem displays centuries of history in its architecture, cuisine, and cultural attractions. Prepare for beautiful wildlife, moving displays of political and personal perseverance, and diverse neighbourhoods celebrating cultures worldwide.
When to Go
Anytime you visit South Africa, you’ll find special events and a mild climate. Plan on shopping around for airfare and booking tours and accommodations early for this popular destination. Travelling in September and October is an ideal time to enjoy perfect temperatures around 70 degrees and slightly less-crowded tourist hot spots.
How to Get There and Get Around
Flights to Cape Town are frequent from New York City and Los Angeles. Using your favourite discount airfare site can help you narrow down the best routes and times to buy. If you have any reason to travel to Europe, flights to South Africa departing overseas can be less expensive and worth tacking on to the end of another trip. Once in Cape Town, you’ll find that Ubers are plentiful and generally cheaper than taxis. When you’re in the city center, you can easily walk or bike to visit some of the sites.

What to Do and Eat
Cape Town is full of beautiful sights and intriguing neighbourhoods. If you only have limited time, check out these must-do activities off your list before heading home.
Hike Table Mountain
Table Mountain is one of the most iconic South African locations and a must-see for visitors to the country. Its flat-top feature makes for stunning photographs, and the wildlife in the area is diverse and abundant. You can take the aerial tram to the top if you’d rather not hike, so there’s no excuse to miss this site!
Visit Boulders Beach
Travelling with kids or avid swimmers? Head to Boulders Beach, where the calm waters are perfect for taking a dip. One of the best parts of this beach location is the colony of penguins living there. Because of these fun local friends, the beach is often crowded, but visiting in the fall gives you the best chance to have a slightly less-crowded area.
Explore the Company Gardens
Tourists often overlook this location. That means it’s likely less crowded than other parks. You can stroll the lanes, admiring the wildlife and trees, or stop at one of the museums to learn more about the country’s colonial past. These gardens were planted to grow fruits and vegetables for passing ships during colonial days, so there’s plenty of history for the curious tourist.
Tour Robben Island
It’s hard to escape the political past when you visit South Africa, and visiting Robben Island gives you a firsthand look at some of the consequences of apartheid. Many tour guides you’ll encounter are former political prisoners, giving you the chance to ask for personal accounts of their time on the island.
Visit The Old Biscuit Mill
For a one-stop dining location, head to this refurbished 19th-century mill and taste various offerings from the many shops and restaurants in its “village” area. This is an excellent spot for casual dining that doubles as sightseeing.
Grab Some Seafood in Paternoster
For fresh, local seafood and a quaint atmosphere, take the 90-minute drive to nearby Paternoster and explore the area on foot. Paternoster is one of South Africa’s oldest fishing villages. You can find lobster and other seafood the locals catch right in front of your eyes.
Whale Watch in Hermanus
Hermanus is about two hours from Cape Town. During peak whale-mating season (which ends in late October), you can see mothers and calves swimming from your vantage point on the white sandy beaches.
Experience Fine Dining at The Test Kitchen
The Test Kitchen is Cape Town’s most upscale restaurant, serving a 16-course dinner with experimental offerings like homemade gummy bears. This location is the hottest spot in the city, so make sure to have a reservation in place three months in advance.
Stay in the Gardens Suburb
Gardens is an inner-city Cape Town suburb. It’s an excellent place to stay to be close to the action and feel like you’re getting some local flavour. You can easily walk to museums, clubs, shops, and galleries. Plus, the accommodation prices are more reasonable than in some other neighbourhoods.
If you’ve always wanted to visit South Africa, start planning today for the adventure of a lifetime!

Seven Healthy Lifestyle Habitscould Help Lower Dementia Risk For People With Diabetes – Mirage News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/seven-healthy-lifestyle-habitscould-help-lower-dementia-risk-for-people-with-diabetes-mirage-news/
MINNEAPOLIS – A combination of seven healthy lifestyle habits including sleeping seven to nine hours daily, exercising regularly and having frequent social contact was associated with a lower risk of dementia in people with type 2 diabetes, according to a study published in the September 14, 2022, online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
“Type 2 diabetes is a worldwide epidemic that affects one in 10 adults, and having diabetes is known to increase a person’s risk of developing dementia,” said study author Yingli Lu, MD, PhD, of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in China. “We investigated whether a broad combination of healthy lifestyle habits could offset that dementia risk and found that people with diabetes who incorporated seven healthy lifestyle habits into their lives had a lower risk of dementia than people with diabetes who did not lead healthy lives.”

Maccabi Haifa Vs. PSG Result: Messi, Mbappe, Neymar Combine For First Time Ever In Champions League – Sporting News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/maccabi-haifa-vs-psg-result-messi-mbappe-neymar-combine-for-first-time-ever-in-champions-league-sporting-news/
The hosts started brightly in Israel, troubling PSG throughout a frenetic first 45 minutes, but it was not to be as PSG outclassed Maccabi Haifa in a 3-1 win to stay perfect through two Champions League group stage games.
It marks the first time ever that Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar all found the back of the net in the same Champions League match. That proved too much for Maccabi Haifa, whose spirited first half simply ran out of gas.
Tjarron Chery put Haifa in front before the half-hour mark, sending a boisterous Sammy Ofer Stadium into a frenzy, and leaving PSG shockingly down a goal. Haifa goalkeeper Josh Cohen stood tall on a number of occasions to protect the early lead, but would eventually succumb to one of the greatest players of all-time.
Messi found PSG’s equalizer on 37 minutes, receiving great service from a shifty Mbappe, giving PSG something to savor after an otherwise shaky first-half that saw the hosts run PSG ragged.
After the break, PSG eventually wore Haifa down with pure class and skill. Mbappe would find PSG’s second on a great vertical ball by Messi, and Neymar put the game away late after latching onto a long-ball from Marco Verratti.
The overall performance from Haifa, especially in the first half, deserves plaudits as they troubled one of the world’s best teams for the full 45 minutes, but they just couldn’t keep up the tempo all game, succumbing to a supremely talented squad.

Maccabi Haifa vs. PSG post-match analysis
Can PSG keep out-classing teams?
We all know that PSG, on paper, have one of the best teams in the world. They’ve proven as much time and time again, doing so on yet another occasion today in Israel.
Mbappe, Messi and Neymar are an unstoppable force up front.
Still, it does feel like PSG are beating teams on talent instead of on cohesion, chemistry, or tactics. The Parisians were second-best through significant periods in both their Champions League matches to date. Against Juventus, they took an early 2-0 lead before crumbling late and barely hanging on, while today they were troubled consistently through the first half by Maccabi Haifa.
Surely at some point, if this continues, a better team like Manchester City, Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich will put PSG to the sword during these spells of trouble, and the Parisians won’t be able to simply flex their muscles and come out in front after 90 minutes.

Maccabi Haifa can be proud
It was a spectacular performance from the hosts tonight in every facet of the game.
Maccabi Haifa were not afraid to venture forward, holding long spells of possession and forcing PSG to defend in earnest. They attacked the PSG penalty area and put the visiting defenders under pressure.
At the other end, the defense played bravely, throwing their bodies in front of shots and remaining tactically organized. They didn’t back down from 50/50 challenges, and often bested PSG in the air. The goalkeeper stood tall on a number of occasions, only beaten when the defensive line broke down in full.
Even the crowd mightily impressed, singing in full voice for the entire 90 minutes, even when PSG scored and celebrated in their faces. A performance the entire Haifa community can be proud of, even in defeat.
Maccabi Haifa vs. PSG live updates, highlights, commentary
88th min: GOAL! PSG! This one is over, as PSG outlast Haifa. Neymar the one to close the door, with Verratti pinging a brilliant switch to the opposite flank. The Haifa defense completely lost track of Neymar at the far end, and he’s wide open to receive the ball and bury the chance. PSG just too much class in this one!

— CBS Sports Golazo (@CBSSportsGolazo) September 14, 2022
For some reason, the official is having a VAR check, and is completely surrounded by the PSG players. Neymar is booked in the aftermath, and replay shows its for a rude celebration, mocking the Haifa players or supporters with an gesture. Silly from the Brazilian, who’s withdrawn by Galtier almost immediately.
85th min: Verratti clips an opponent at the top of the PSG penalty area, and this is a dangerous set-piece for the hosts. Imagine if this finds the back of the net? Sammy Ofer Stadium would explode!
It’ll be Chery, the Haifa goalscorer, to take the free-kick with his left, with Haziza also standing over it. Haziza departs, so it’s Chery’s to take…he hits it well but it goes a few feet over the crossbar.
83rd min: Well, we knew this game couldn’t keep up the pace for a full 90 minutes. It’s all gotten a bit messy now. Mbappe’s fouled in midfield and PSG will kill some more time, as Achraf Hakimi comes on in place of Mukiele, who’s upset with being withdrawn. Maccabi Haifa appear to be running out of steam.
75th min: Marquinhos goes down emphatically after Pierrot technically puts a hand on the Brazilian’s face. Yellow card for the Haifa striker. It’s all a bit soft, really.
72nd min: The game has opened up a bit since the goal. There’s more action in the Haifa 18-yard box, with Mbappe and Messi continuing to probe, but the home defenders are there to clear. PSG will bring Vitinha off, with Fabian Ruiz entering the pitch. Haifa counter bringing Din David on for Atzili.
69th min: GOAL! PSG! Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Kylian Mbappe scores after being sent free by Lionel Messi! A vertical ball from Messi breaks the Maccabi Haifa back line, and Mbappe is clean through after getting by Seck. The French superstar makes no mistake, finding the gap between a diving Cohen and the far post.

— CBS Sports Golazo (@CBSSportsGolazo) September 14, 2022
64th min: Chance, PSG! A HUGE DOUBLE STOP! First Josh Cohen saves brilliantly, diving down to his left after Messi got free. Then Cornud recovers well to reach the ball first, with a sliding clearance to deny Mukiele who was charging down the rebound. PSG starting to turn the screw, but the hosts are so far up to the task!
Josh Cohen said he wanted to make a big save on Lionel Messi, and he just made two.#UCL
— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) September 14, 2022
63rd min: The Haifa defense continues to stand tall. A rip from Mbappe is blocked very bravely by the substitute Abdoulaye Seck, while Messi’s follow-up from a tight angle is saved by Cohen.
60th min: Kylian Mbappe is a menace, and he very nearly earns a penalty, going down under a challenge from Haziza right on the edge of the penalty area. The referee points for a free-kick and shows Haziza a yellow card. Mbappe wanted a penalty, but replay shows that not only was the location of the foul correct, but it’s also a very soft foul, and a bit of a flop. Still, PSG have a dangerous free-kick…and it’s into the wall from Neymar. Mbappe sends it back in from the other end, but it’s cleared well by the Haifa defense.
58th min: The game has slowed in pace, mostly because Haifa have taken the air out of the ball. They’re holding heavy possession and PSG are forced to chase the ball. A few deep shots fail to trouble Donnarumma, but his goal kicks are giving the ball right back to the hosts.
52nd min: Chance, Haifa! A long-range effort by Cornud is SO NEARLY redirected in by a streaking Pierrot, but the ball whizzes over the bar! Donnarumma was fooled, and Pierrot should have scored. A missed chance for Haifa!
As play stops, the trainers are out for Sundgren, and it looks a concerning one. Unsure what happened, but the Swedish international will have to come off holding h is chest, with Haifa forced into the game’s first substitution. Trainers are taking their time with Sundgren, who’s clearly shaken up.
49th min: Like they were in the first half, PSG remain very sloppy in possession. Atzili takes a shot from distance on a counter, but it’s collected well by Donnarumma who goes down low to smother the ball. In the aftermath, Atzili gets a deserved yellow card after getting worked by Vitinha in midfield.
46th min: The second half is under way in Haifa! It will be fascinating to see how Christophe Galtier tactically counters what Maccabi Haifa threw at PSG in the first half. We’ll be lucky to be treated to another 45 minutes of similar energy and pace!
HALFTIME: Maccabi Haifa 1-1 PSG
It’s a brilliant first half from the hosts, utterly spectacular. They were brimming with confidence and swagger through the entire 45 minutes, and seemed to catch PSG on their heels. The opening goal was wonderfully executed, and they’ve locked down PSG for the most part.
To the Parisians’ credit, they were unlucky to not earn a penalty as Josh Cohen took down Neymar, and Lionel Messi is inevitable. The match is indeed very much there for the taking in the second half, and the visitors very well could assert their dominance, but it will take plenty of hard work to break down the extremely energetic home side.

ANZ Banking Group Plans For Metaverse Finance Software ITnews
ANZ Banking Group Plans For Metaverse – Finance – Software – ITnews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/anz-banking-group-plans-for-metaverse-finance-software-itnews/
ANZ banking services lead Nigel Dobson is taking a keen interest in the metaverse as a place where some of the bank’s customers want to be and transact in, but sees “really key questions” that need answers as the space takes off.
Speaking during a Trans-Tasman Business Circle panel, Dobson said the metaverse, a connected network of virtual communities built on blockchain platforms, is “one that traditional supporters of the digital economy like banks should be planning for”.
Dobson predicted that while current excitement about the metaverse will “flatten out eventually, the hype precedes the genuine foundation of business models” and is an opportunity to find a business model “that makes sense”.
However, he said the metaverse is “just an exponential version of what’s already happening on the internet” with “technology leading regulation”, creating “a classic problem we’ve been trying to catch up with and deal with for many decades now”.
In particular, he said that current notions of digital identity “are probably not sufficient to appropriately govern and manage the safety [of participants] in the metaverse.”
“I’m no expert in the space, but I think there’s a lot of work that needs to be done in that space to ensure that we do bring some sort of trade-off between anonymity and privacy to accountability,” he said.
Dobson said information sharing arrangements across blockchains would become important so as to “allow individuals in their virtual form to move between various worlds and potentially even transfer assets between those worlds.”
“In order to do that, you’ve got to have an underpinning set of standards [and] have an underpinning sense of governance and a well woven together legal frameworks that span the globe,” he said.
“Now, most countries do not make global laws – and yet we are dealing with a borderless phenomenon here in decentralised venues, or the metaverse.”
“That’s one of the things that the regulators will have to catch up with” as they seek a best practice approach to standards-setting “across these different worlds”.
“These are all questions I have no good answers to… the regulators need to stand in front of this” to clearly define regulation jurisdictions, he said.
“Otherwise, we will not move forward and the metaverse will become a dangerous place. Which if it does, then commerce will cease to exist.
While “that’s making a very definitive statement”, Dobson said “those sorts of questions need to be answered” if the metaverse is to ever scale.
Transaction enablement
Dobson added “the use of smart contracts on-chain secured with native coins that can be issued by a bank is a really important development.”
“At ANZ, have already created a stablecoin that can interact on a range of blockchains called A$DC.
“It’s a tokenised version of Australian dollars and it’s built to interact with digital assets like NFTs”.
Dobson highlighted ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions, the bank’s joint venture with European payments company Worldline, as an example of “how we’re working with customers” as it recently established beverage maker “Naked Life in Decentraland and set them up as a merchant in the virtual world”.
“Wherever your customers want to do business, you should be interested in,” said Dobson.
‘Fundamentally, if the business models that you recognise are transitioning to a different operating model that your customers feel comfortable in those environments, then we want to be there and we want to be testing and learning alongside them.”
Use Your IPhones Mail App To Schedule Emails That Auto-Send At Specific Dates And Times Gadget Hacks
Use Your IPhone’s Mail App To Schedule Emails That Auto-Send At Specific Dates And Times – Gadget Hacks https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/use-your-iphones-mail-app-to-schedule-emails-that-auto-send-at-specific-dates-and-times-gadget-hacks/
You no longer have to resort to a third-party email client on your iPhone to schedule messages to send whenever you want. Apple built the scheduling functionality into its Mail app, and it works with any email client you use, whether iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, or another service.
To try it out, ensure your iPhone is running iOS 16. The change also appears on iPadOS 16 for iPad and macOS 13 Ventura for Mac, which are still in beta.
Start or open a draft in the Mail app from any email account. When you’re ready to schedule it to send later, long-press the send button. From the menu, you can choose preset times like “Send Tonight” and “Send Tomorrow” or use “Send Later” to pick your own date and time. When you use Send Later, just hit “Done” after setting the date and time.
Don’t Miss: Your iPhone Just Got a Massive Feature iCloud and macOS Had Forever
No matter what date and time you choose, you can view your scheduled emails from the new “Send Later” folder on your mailboxes list. In the folder, you should see the date and time it will auto-send each message. If you don’t want to send the email anymore, you can delete it like any other draft.
If you want to change the date and time, open the draft and hit “Edit” next to “This email will be sent [date] at [time].” The same Send Later interface will appear for you to reschedule it. You can tap “Cancel Send Later” to delete it altogether (it won’t revert to a draft) or “Done” to save your changes.
Send Later does not sync to iCloud or any of your email accounts since it’s an on-device feature, meaning it only works from the originating device. For Mail to send the scheduled message successfully, your iPhone needs a network connection at the scheduled time to ensure delivery.
If your iPhone doesn’t have an internet connection at the scheduled time, Mail will move your email from the Send Later folder to your “Outbox” folder. The message will then auto-send as soon as your iPhone connects to the internet — it won’t cancel the email altogether.

Heres Why $80 Billion Was Wiped Off The Crypto Market NewsBTC
Here’s Why $80 Billion Was Wiped Off The Crypto Market – NewsBTC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/heres-why-80-billion-was-wiped-off-the-crypto-market-newsbtc/
Over the last 24 hours, a substantial amount has been wiped off the crypto market. Billions of dollars were taken off the market cap as cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin lost about 10% of their value in the same time period. Following this, Charles Hoskinson, founder of the Cardano network, has shared his thoughts on what caused the market to crash.
Inflation Is The Culprit
Taking to Twitter, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson explained that the high inflation rate was the reason behind the market crash. It is no secret that the inflation rate of the United States has been climbing in the last couple of months, and the most recent CPI data report saw another increase in inflation, triggering panic across the financial markets.
On the headline inflation, there was only about a 0.1% increase according to the CPI data, while core inflation rose 0.6%. However, despite these numbers not being ‘large’ compared to previous inflation growth rates, it showed that inflation was not slowing down. With the year-over-year inflation rate now sitting at 8.3%, it triggered a massive sell-off in the market.
Hoskison shared a report from CNBC that showed that the crypto market was not the only one hit in the sell-offs that accompanied the release of the CPI data. The DOW had fallen 1,200 points in a single day, which was the largest single-day drop recorded in the last two years.
Market cap drops to $951 billion | Source: Crypto Total Market Cap on TradingView.com
Hoskinson’s statements on the topic of inflation were, “I remember attending a dinner party in Abu Dhabi and sitting next to a famous economist who told me inflation had nothing to do with printing massive sums of money. The people in charge are a delusional cult. You get the bill.”
The crypto market has lost a total of $80 billion in the last 24 hours, which has brought the total market cap below $1 trillion once more. Now, the market looks toward the FOMC meeting that is planned to happen at the start of next week. The decision will also have a significant impact on the market. But before then, the Ethereum Merge presents another event that could have an impact on the market.
Bitcoin’s strong correlation with the stock market is also having an impact on the market. This means that for there to be a recovery in the crypto market, a recovery in the stock market would help it along. However, with the inflation rates remaining so high, recovery may remain far off until there is more positive news.

Secretary Of Labor, US Trade Representative Support Protection Of Labor Rights At Mexico’s Manufacturas VU Auto Parts Facility – US Department Of Labor https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/secretary-of-labor-us-trade-representative-support-protection-of-labor-rights-at-mexicos-manufacturas-vu-auto-parts-facility-us-department-of-labor/
WASHINGTON – The U.S. and Mexico today announced that, in response to a petition provided in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the Mexican government took actions to ensure a free and fair election to choose union representation for workers at the Manufacturas VU Auto Components facility in Piedras Negras, State of Coahuila.
The Rapid Response Labor Mechanism petition raised concerns that workers’ rights to freely associate and collectively bargain were being denied. Following Mexico’s review and supervision of the election, VU workers voted in favor of an independent Mexican union, La Liga Sindical Obrera Mexicana on Aug. 31, 2022. LSOM is the first union representing workers there for purposes of collective bargaining.
The July 21, 2022, petition marks the fifth successful use by the U.S. government of the agreement’s Rapid Response Labor Mechanism to benefit workers’ rights. During the case’s investigation, attachés with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs visited Piedras Negras to interview stakeholders, conduct worker interviews and gather information that contributed to a successful resolution.
“Workers at Manufacturas VU Auto Components facility now have a union – chosen through a fair election – with whom they are consulting as they prepare for negotiations for their first collective bargaining agreement,” said Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh. “The Department of Labor commends the government of Mexico’s efforts and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to promote respect for workers’ freedom of association and collective bargaining rights.”
Prior to the vote, and during the period of review, the government of Mexico raised awareness of the upcoming vote, its process and its implications. It also educated workers and provided training to the facility’s human resources and supervisory personnel. The government obtained a written commitment from the VU to remain neutral in the vote, which the employer then communicated to workers at the facility.
Officials from Mexico’s Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration made site visits in the weeks before the vote to investigate misconduct allegations and oversaw the vote on election day. At the request of the Mexican government, officials from the International Labor Organization and Mexico’s National Electoral Institute served as election-day observers. On Sept. 9, 2022, the Federal Center issued LSOM a certificate of representation, which authorizes LSOM to bargain collectively on behalf of VU workers.
“Rapidly resolving this matter again demonstrates the Biden-Harris administration’s success putting trade policy into action,” said Ambassador Katherine Tai. “The steps taken by the U.S. and Mexico to promote workers’ rights and workplace democracy reflect our shared commitment to ensure that workers are able to organize freely and support the union of their choice. I commend the Government of Mexico for helping to facilitate a prompt conclusion to the important concerns raised by Mexican workers.”
In addition, the government of Mexico will conduct further inspections at the facility to monitor the situation and respond if allegations are raised.

Compass Minerals Picks Lithium Extraction Technology To Supply Ford, Others – Kitco NEWS https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/compass-minerals-picks-lithium-extraction-technology-to-supply-ford-others-kitco-news/

Sept 14 (Reuters) – Compass Minerals International Inc (CMP.N) said on Wednesday it will use a lithium extraction technology developed by EnergySource Minerals LLC to produce the electric vehicle battery metal for Ford Motor Co (F.N) and others.
Washington has been pressing for U.S. companies to find greener ways to boost domestic production of battery metals and lessen the country’s reliance on China.
Compass chose EnergySource’s direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology over four rivals and plans to use it alongside existing evaporation ponds to remove the battery metal from Utah’s Great Salt Lake.
Compass said it spent more than two years studying EnergySource’s technology and is confident it can begin producing 10,000 tonnes of lithium annually by 2025.
“This is the right technology for this resource,” Compass executive Ryan Bartlett told Reuters.
Compass also on Wednesday said it would sell shares worth $252 million to Koch Industries Inc and use proceeds to fund its lithium project. Compass has lithium supply deals with Ford and LG Energy Solution Ltd (373220.KS).
The partnership is the first technology license by privately held EnergySource, which counts oilfield giant Schlumberger NV (SLB.N) and mining investment firm TechMet as investors. EnergySource technology relies on an adsorbent that separates lithium from impurities in brine.
EnergySource is developing its own DLE project in California’s Salton Sea, but warned in June that a recently enacted state lithium tax could force it to invest elsewhere.
Eric Spomer, EnergySource’s chief executive, said the Compass partnership was not linked to the California tax, but added: “There are a lot of brine resources in North America.”
Elsewhere, several DLE partnerships have recently soured. Lake Resources NL (LKE.AX) plans to seek arbitration to settle a dispute with Bill Gates-backed Lilac Solutions Inc.
And officials in Bolivia, which holds the world’s largest lithium resource, parted ways with EnergyX.

Hispanic Caucus Endorses Latina In Newly Competitive Washington District The Hill
Hispanic Caucus Endorses Latina In Newly Competitive Washington District – The Hill https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/hispanic-caucus-endorses-latina-in-newly-competitive-washington-district-the-hill/
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus campaign arm on Wednesday announced its endorsement of Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a Washington Democrat running in a traditionally moderate Republican district against a pro-Trump Republican.
Bold PAC, the Hispanic Caucus’s political group, first made waves in 2022 with its staunch support of another Latina in the Pacific Northwest, Andrea Salinas, who won a primary in Oregon against a better-funded candidate.
“We’re excited to announce our enthusiastic support for Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in Washington State’s 3rd Congressional District. Marie is a mother and small business owner who really understands the struggles that thousands of families in her district are facing, and her commitment to delivering real results for them is exactly the kind of leadership we need in Washington, D.C.,” said Bold PAC Chairman Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.).
Gluesenkamp Perez is running in an unpredictable race, in a district that’s been held since 2010 by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R), a moderate who voted for former President Trump’s second impeachment after the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.
Herrera Beutler lost her primary under Washington’s jungle primary system, where candidates of all parties face off and the top two advance to the general election.
Gluesenkamp Perez, who was outspent by three Republican contenders, came in first place in the primary.
Joe Kent, an America First Republican who challenged Herrera Beutler in part because of her vote in Trump’s Jan. 6 impeachment, won the Republican nomination by coming in second.
“This is a man who thinks Loren Culp is our governor,”
Gluesenkamp Perez said of Kent, referring to the GOP candidate who lost to Gov. Jay Inslee (D) in 2020.
“I mean, he wants to dismantle mail-in voting. He wants to ban all immigration for 20 years. You know, his priorities include impeaching [President] Biden, and [Vice President] Harris. You know, he wants to have an investigation into [National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director] Anthony Fauci,” Gluesenkamp Perez added.
“I don’t know any voters that are still talking about arresting Fauci. Look at gas prices, look at what it’s like to get in the housing market. I mean, child care and workforce participation. These are the things that people really care about in this district. It’s not an internet chat room, it’s people’s lives.”
The Hill has reached out to Kent’s campaign for comment.
During the primary, Kent outspent Gluesenkamp Perez nearly 10-to-one.
Still, Washington’s 3rd District is rated by the Cook Political Report as “lean Republican,” and nearly twice as many voters chose Republican candidates in the primary than Democrats.
Gluesenkamp Perez told The Hill that many of the voters who picked Herrera Beutler and Heidi St. John, the other competitive Republican in the primary, did so in opposition to Kent’s brand of Trumpist conservatism.
“Comparing this race to past races, it’s clear that there’s a lot of strategic voting to try and help Herrera Beutler make it through the primaries, which ultimately wasn’t effective,” said Gluesenkamp Perez.
And Gluesenkamp Perez added that the district’s demographics are changing, with an influx of residents from Portland, Ore., likely swaying the voter base left.
The 3rd Congressional District straddles the Columbia River on the border between Washington and Oregon, and its largest voting base is in the city of Vancouver in Clark County, across the river from Portland.
In recent years, high real estate prices in Portland have driven some residents to Vancouver, a short commute away.
Still, the district also spans rural areas that have a large population of people who work in agriculture, many of them Hispanics.
“I’m the first candidate nominated to this congressional seat that’s not from Clark County, that is a rural American and certainly a rural Latina,” said Gluesenkamp Perez.
The rural parts of the district hold some similarities to its neighbor to the northeast, a district that had a similar primary.
In the 4th District, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.) faced a stronger-than-usual showing from a Democrat and a challenge from the right from Culp.
Newhouse, who also voted for Trump’s Jan. 6 impeachment, edged out Culp to win that district’s nomination and enter the general election as a heavy favorite for reelection.
Gluesenkamp Perez said that her district’s choice between her and a pro-Trump Republican presents an unexpected opportunity for Democrats, lauding Bold PAC for its endorsement.
“It’s encouraging in recognition that this is one of the best pickup opportunities for House Dems in the entire country. And building this coalition, building partnerships, is exactly how we’re going to do this,” she said.

One Union Rejects Deal Days Ahead Of Rail Strike Deadline 69News WFMZ-TV
One Union Rejects Deal Days Ahead Of Rail Strike Deadline – 69News WFMZ-TV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/one-union-rejects-deal-days-ahead-of-rail-strike-deadline-69news-wfmz-tv/
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Members of one union rejected a tentative deal with the largest U.S. freight railroads Wednesday while three other unions remained at the bargaining table just days ahead of a strike deadline, threatening to intensify snarls in the nation’s supply chain that have contributed to rising prices.
About 4,900 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 19 voted to reject the tentative agreement negotiated by IAM leadership with the railroads, the union said Wednesday. But the IAM agreed to delay any strike by its members until Sept. 29 to allow more time for negotiations and to allow other unions to vote.
Railroads are trying to reach an agreement with all their other unions to avert a strike before Friday’s deadline. The unions aren’t allowed to strike before Friday under the federal law that governs railroad contract talks.
Government officials and a variety of businesses are bracing for the possibility of a nationwide rail strike that would paralyze shipments of everything from crude and clothing to cars, a potential calamity for businesses that have struggled for more than two years due to COVID-19 related supply chain breakdowns.
There are 12 unions — one with two separate divisions — that must agree to the tentative deals. So far, nine had agreed to tentative deals and three others are still at the bargaining table. IAM members were the first to reject their deal while two other votes are expected Wednesday.
The tentative deals are based on the recommendations of a Presidential Emergency Board Joe Biden appointed this summer that called for 24% raises and $5,000 in bonuses in a five-year deal that’s retroactive to 2020. Those recommendations also includes one additional paid leave day a year and higher health insurance costs.
The key unions that represent the conductors and engineers who drive trains are holding out in the hope that railroads will agree to go beyond those recommendations and address some of their concerns about unpredictable schedules and strict attendance policies that they say make it difficult to take any time off. They say the job cuts major railroads have made over the past six years — eliminating nearly one-third of their workers — have made a difficult job even harder although the railroads maintain their operations have just become more efficient as they rely on fewer, longer trains.
Contract talks continued Wednesday with Labor Secretary Marty Walsh participating to put pressure on both sides to reach a deal before Friday’s deadline.
“All parties need to stay at the table, bargain in good faith to resolve outstanding issues, and come to an agreement,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “A shutdown of our freight system is an unacceptable outcome for our economy and the American people, and all parties must work to avoid just that.”
If the two sides can’t agree, Congress could step in to block a strike and impose terms on the railroads and unions, but it wasn’t clear Wednesday how quickly they could or would act because Democrats and Republicans can’t readily agree on a solution. A number of business groups have written letters to lawmakers over the past week urging them to be prepared to step in because of their concerns that a rail strike would be what the Business Roundtable called an “economic catastrophe.”
With the midterm elections just weeks away, politics will play a role if Congress has to settle this dispute. Democrats are wary of becoming crosswise with their allies in organized labor, as unions tend to be strong supporters in elections. At the same time, Republicans see an opportunity to put pressure on Biden and his party if the railroads teeter toward a strike. But it’s entirely possible that all sides would be blamed for a rail shutdown.
The many businesses that rely on railroads to deliver their raw materials and finished products say a rail strike would cause significant problems particularly for oil refineries, chemical businesses, auto makers, retailers and agricultural groups. The Association of American Railroads trade group estimated that a strike would cost the economy more than $2 billion a day.
Businesses would likely try to turn to trucks and other modes of shipping if the railroads do shut down, but there isn’t enough trucking capacity to take up all the slack. The railroad trade group estimated that 467,000 additional trucks a day would be required to deliver everything railroads handle now.
A freight rail strike would also disrupt passenger traffic because Amtrak and many commuter railroads operate on tracks owned by the freight railroads. Amtrak has already cancelled a number of its long-distance trains this week, and it said the rest of its long-distance trains would stop Thursday ahead of the strike deadline.
