FEE’s Lawrence Reed Talks Freedom, Economics In Montana – Kmmsam https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/fees-lawrence-reed-talks-freedom-economics-in-montana-kmmsam/ We had a remarkable guest join us in our radio studios here in Montana Wednesday morning. If you’re in the Billings area Wednesday night and read this in time- you can actually meet and hear Lawrence Reed, the President Emeritus of FEE, the Foundation for Economic Education at Rocky Mountain College at 7 p.m. He is speaking at an event for the Frontier Institute, a free market think tank based here in Montana. Click here for free ticket info. Reed is going to talk about “The Seven Principles of Sound Public Policy.” Aaron Flint: “Number one: free people are not equal, and equal people are not free. Expand on that a little more. Because that is a brilliant statement.” Lawrence Reed: “Well, thank you. You have to focus in on a particular kind of equality- when it comes to equality before the law, the idea that we should all be innocent or guilty based upon whether we did it, not according to our racial background, or place of origin, or faith, or whatever. That’s not an issue. What I’ll be talking about is economic equality. Equality in terms of our material income, and our wealth. And a free society is not going to generate equal incomes. And why? Mainly because people are different. There’s not a single person in the history of the world who has been identically copied by another individual. Everybody’s different. We’re different in terms of the talents, we have our willingness to work, our propensity to save versus spend, our ambitions, a million factors make us very different people. So why should we expect in a free society people will generate the same incomes? They won’t. Those who apply their talents and apply them well will tend to do better than those who don’t.” He also shared an incredible radio story from behind the Iron Curtain, before Communism came crashing down in Poland. As Tanner Avery with the Frontier Institute tells us: Lawrence was recently awarded the The Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland – the highest honor bestowed by Poland upon a foreigner. Past recipients include Ronald Reagan and Sir Roger Scruton. He was awarded this because of his extensive work to bring Liberty and Freedom to Poland. You can read more here.“ You’re gonna want to listen to the whole chat. Here’s audio of our full conversation with Larry Reed: LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don’t exist anymore The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.

Elrond And Aptos Take Over Crypto Market Negative Consequences For Top Coins? NewsBTC
Elrond And Aptos Take Over Crypto Market, Negative Consequences For Top Coins? – NewsBTC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/elrond-and-aptos-take-over-crypto-market-negative-consequences-for-top-coins-newsbtc/ Elrond (EGLD) and Aptos (APT) are attractive in a sideways market as they record extreme price fluctuations. This price action is attracting market participants tired of Bitcoin and Ethereum trending sideways, chopping out long and short positions.  Launched a day ago in most crypto exchanges, Aptos experiences massive price fluctuations. At the time of writing, Elrond trades at $57 with a 4% profit in seven days and a 20% profit in thirty days. In the meantime, Aptos deals at $7 with a 47% loss in the last 24 hours.  EGLD’s price trends to the upside on the 4-hour chart. Source: EGLDUSDT Tradingview Retail Traders Pile In, Betting On Elrond and Aptos NewsBTC reported earlier that Bitcoin and larger cryptocurrencies would likely continue with their sideways movement over the coming weeks. This sideways price action might extend the spikes in volatility for EGLD, APT, and tokens going viral across social media.  In that sense, data from Santiment recorded an increase in the “Discussion Rate” across Twitter, Telegram, and other platforms. Retail traders have been posting about these cryptocurrencies causing more people to become interested, leading to further volatility.  The research firm said the following on Elrond and Aptos’s price action while sharing the chart below:  Elrond and Aptos are both trending Wednesday for different reasons. The price of $APT tanked after launching its highly anticipated mainnet. Meanwhile, $EGLD has benefited from some shilling and giveaways making rounds on Telegram, in particular. EGLD and APT mention on social media posts that their prices have become volatile. Source: Santiment Additional data from Material Indicators support this thesis. Retail traders have been following as Elrond increases its social media posting volumes. Traders with buy orders from $100 to $1,000 are bidding into EGLD’s price action.  The cryptocurrency is losing momentum on lower timeframes. As seen in the chart below, EGLD’s price is coming into heavy resistance at its current levels. Selling orders are thickening and might prevent the price of this cryptocurrency from sustaining its price action.  Retail traders jumping into EGLD’s price action. Source: Material Indicators While more significant cryptocurrencies trend sideways, any rally or volatility in the price of Elrond and Aptos might be short-lived. However, if too many traders jump into these tokens, Bitcoin and Ethereum might lose stability.  According to a pseudonym trader, APT’s volatility and increasing participation might take out the liquidity from other trading pairs. This price action leads to a sudden shift in price direction for more prominent cryptocurrencies, a situation that might become normal while the market lacks clear direction.  After 1 day: $150 mil open interest, $3 bil futures volume, $1 bil spot volume… This is going to suck so much liquidity from the market.$APT https://t.co/iMupyE21It — Byzantine General (@ByzGeneral) October 19, 2022

Altria in a statement said it has already received $1.0 billion from PMI and will receive the remainder by July 2023. The company had been selling IQOS in the United States through unit PM USA in partnership with the smoke-free product’s developer PMI under an agreement that was set to expire in 2024. We believe that PM USA met each of these milestones, but PMI disagreed with our position,” Altria said. IQOS devices differ from traditional combustible cigarettes in that they heat tobacco-filled sticks wrapped in paper, generating an aerosol that contains nicotine. They are different from e-cigarettes such as those from Juul, which vaporize a nicotine-filled liquid. PMI is ready to invest in IQOS and bring it to market at scale across the United States and is well advanced in its plans, Chief Executive Officer Jacek Olczak said. “The route-to-market is clear given the well-established distribution and retail channels in the U.S., and we are well prepared to proceed autonomously to develop IQOS and the rest of our smoke-free portfolio should the offer for Swedish Match fail,” Olczak said in a statement to Reuters. Philip Morris plans to raise its $16 billion offer for Swedish Match AB (SWMA.ST), the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday citing people familiar with the matter. The new offer is likely to be announced as soon as Thursday, the newspaper said. Activist investor Elliott Management, which raised its stake in Swedish Match last month, plans to oppose the bid under its current terms along with some other investors. read more PMI declined to comment on the WSJ report. The lounge, featuring 1,300 square feet of LED screens, is a two-story space on the south side of the United Center Atrium and available to all ticketed guests during United Center events. The space is currently operating as a non-wagering sports bar while the Illinois Gaming Board reviews its application for a gaming license. “We see it as really just a premier sports viewing destination, particularly because of the amenities FanDuel has added and the comfort of the facility,” said Kevin O’Brien, the director of food and beverage at the United Center. The lounge offers a brand new menu, different from concessions elsewhere in the arena. “The focus here is approachable yet elevated sports bar food,” said O’Brien. Among the offerings are smoked gouda bacon dip, wagyu hot dogs, house-made pizza and spicy pork nachos. Beverages include signature, craft cocktails like the Straight up Spicy Margarita and the Even Money Espresso Martini. Local “We’ve been open already for about six nights for preseason and for some concerts. The atmosphere is electric,” said O’Brien. The FanDuel Sportsbook Lounge is open three hours prior to event time and one hour post on event days at the United Center. For now, there are no age restrictions.

Have You Been Priced Out Of Hawaii Vacations Too? Beat Of Hawaii
Have You Been Priced Out Of Hawaii Vacations Too? Beat Of Hawaii
Have You Been Priced Out Of Hawaii Vacations Too? – Beat Of Hawaii https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/have-you-been-priced-out-of-hawaii-vacations-too-beat-of-hawaii/ You’ve said it thousands of times in the comments. And we hear you. The cost of Hawaii vacations has jumped tremendously. We just experienced this ourselves on last week’s visit to the Big Island. The price of the same accommodations rose about 300% over pre-Covid. Wow. At the same time, interisland airfare plummeted to $39 each way. The increases in the cost of Hawaii vacations are across the entire range of trip expenses. It includes transportation (and especially car rentals), hotels, food, and Hawaii activities. We’d go so far as to say that Hawaii vacations have become synonymous with being expensive and are best compared with international vacation costs rather than with domestic ones. It is said that Americans tend to budget about 2% of their annual budget on vacations. That is according to the latest federal government statistics. But Hawaii is in a league by itself, and those budgets are now out the window in most cases. How we saved on our Hawaii vacation on the Big Island. Instead of booking massages for $300 or more at the hotel spa, we both opted for the Hokulani Massage Academy in Waimea, where apprentice massage rates are $45 for an hour and a professional hour-long massage is $75. We also asked for a microwave at our hotel to enjoy lanai dining from the grocery store rather than an expensive eat-out meal every single night. With that said, we did splurge and ate at the Canoe House one night, which we enjoyed thoroughly and will perhaps review based on the food, location, ambiance, and creativity. Another savings was checking and rechecking the prices of car rentals before our trip. We wrote about that experience specifically in We Saved Extra 25% On Hawaii Car Rental. It Wasn’t Costco. We also had sticker shock trying to get an Uber at one point. The 12-mile trip was first priced at $179, and we’ll let you know what happened to that in another humorous yet telltale article. So while airfare and hotel prices may or may not fluctuate, you can save on activities and dining by being creative and doing online research. If you have any tips on how you saved on your Hawaii vacation, please share them with others in the comments below, since prices have soared to new records. What is today’s average cost of a moderate 7-night Hawaii vacation for two? Accommodations: $2,800 (that is at the economy end of the scale). Air transportation: $1,200 (may be more or less depending on location). Car rental: $800 (varies significantly by season and other factors). Food and beverages: $1,400 (with one moderate main meal out daily). Total estimated average cost: $6,200 per week. Due to the cost of airfare to travel from 2,500 to 5,000 miles and the highest accommodation cost in the U.S., Hawaii vacations are unlike most domestic trips. The total costs can vary greatly by how you travel, where you stay and eat, and what you do. Older Hawaii vacationers tend to spend more. We’ve seen estimates that those who are retired or near retirement spend up to 4x more on Hawaii vacations than those in their 20s for example. Will you now shun Hawaii for more affordable vacations? Hawaii vacation costs here have escalated more rapidly than we see elsewhere. Take even restaurants, for example. They have raised their prices due to food, supplies, shipping, insurance, and fuel costs. That is probably the truth, given what we see here at Costco and other stores here in Hawaii. Prices have risen more here than elsewhere. In part, that is due to the distance that everything needs to travel to get to Hawaii. How hard is it for Hawaii tourism businesses to attract and retain employees? Then there’s the cost of people. It is extremely hard to attract employees to the Hawaii travel industry after Covid. And that problem doesn’t seem to be improving. We still find businesses suddenly closed when adequate staffing doesn’t show up to work. Higher airfares are coming too, except for these specific routes. The cost of flights to Hawaii is on the rise. Economy airfares to Hawaii have risen less, whereas extra legroom and business class have risen far more. These premium offerings have risen in price by on average more than 100% since pre-Covid, based on our own checking. The exception to airfare increases is on those routes where extreme competition between Hawaiian and Southwest continues to suppress price increases. That includes Hawaii flights from California cities and interisland flights primarily. On those routes, it is still easy to find Hawaii airfares of about $300 RT, or less, including all taxes and fees. In that case, for two people, the average cost might be at or below $600. Start Hawaii trip planning with Hawaii hotels to find any value options. Since Hawaii hotel rates are the highest in the US, start looking for value options there before purchasing airfare. Revenge travel, post-pandemic, allowed those rates to rise to levels never seen before. In your editors’ visit to the Big Island this week, we found that hotel rates had risen multiple times since last being there pre-Covid. For example, we once wrote about staying at the oceanfront Kona Tiki Hotel on Big Island, when it was $69 a night. When checking rates today, that same room starts at $309 nightly for a two-star budget hotel. Up on the Kohala coast, oceanfront resorts have gone up in price by hundreds of percent. Hawaii hotels/vacation rentals are the number one expense. This can now cost at least five times more than Hawaii airfare. With the highest hotel accommodation rates in the U.S., accommodation for an average 7-night Hawaii vacation, including all taxes and fees, is likely to amount to $3,000 or more. And if you’re heading to Maui, keep in mind that Wailea hotels are still getting daily rates in the range of $1,000. So you can expect a 7-nighter with taxes and fees to run you $8,500 or more. Those estimates are conservative too. We recently checked rates at South Maui properties for January and found Andaz, and Four Seasons, for example, starting at nearly $2,000 per night. Lower-end properties, such as Aston Maui Hill, were asking $1,098 in January. Remember that Hawaii hotels have dynamic pricing and tend to adjust prices daily and seasonally. Ever considered the 7-night NCL Cruise visiting four islands? The current price starts at $1,449 per person and includes your room, dining, entertainment, Wi-Fi, and free ground excursions. Your editors have done this cruise twice and highly recommend it. When you add up the cost of a 7-night vacation for two, this is an attractive option to save money and visit Big Island, Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Plus it’s just a lot of fun. Have you tried buying a lei in Hawaii lately? This is just another example of costs that have gone through the roof. The cost of flowers in Hawaii has become extreme. Once ubiquitous and cheap, flowers are hard to come by. Also likely due to the lack of labor for island flower farming. We also opted out of purchasing a beach towel at our Big Island hotel, which was $117 with tax. Seriously? Now it’s your turn to comment. Have you been surprised by the costs in Hawaii? What have you done to save money? Disclosure: We receive a small commission on purchases from some of the links on Beat of Hawaii. Cost Of Living Pressures Spark Creative Local Solutions In Torres Strait And Northern Peninsula – SBS https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/cost-of-living-pressures-spark-creative-local-solutions-in-torres-strait-and-northern-peninsula-sbs/ Visiting the grocery store can be an eye-watering experience on Australia’s northern tip – in the northern peninsula area and across the Torres Strait islands. Cafe owner Ebony Tamwoy felt she had no choice but to take action and do what she could to help ease the strain, from her community of Injinoo. In some cases, the price of essentials for women like pads and tampons is nearly double what shoppers would find in the city. And without a car, it can be difficult to reach the supermarket. “There are no shops in Injinoo and it’s hard with transport to get to the shop, because the shop closes at a certain time – even public transport we don’t have it here,” she told NITV’s The Point program. Ebony Tamwoy’s cafe Timmy’s is one of the places women in the Northern Peninsula Area can access free toiletries through the happy box project. Source: NITV With other local women, she started providing free menstrual products in different communities across the Northern Peninsula Area, supported by a national toiletry donation campaign, called the Happy Box project. “I think it’s good for young women to have access to all this stuff, because all of the prices in the shops are really high,” she said. Each week Ms Tamwoy stocks a table in her cafe ‘Timmy’s’ with boxes of menstrual products as well as soaps, hair care, and toothpaste for women to take as they need, giving them easier access to essentials and reducing any stigma around them. “When women come here and grab the stuff they are comfortable and they grab what they need and have a yarn here,” Ms Tamwoy said. Community store also struggling It’s not just the residents struggling with the high cost of living. Arthur Wong owns the only independent grocery store in the region – in Seisia, about 15 kilometres from Injinoo. All profits from the community enterprise, are returned to Seisia. But Mr Wong said he is struggling to keep prices at a reasonable level as overheads continue to grow. “We have to make money to make sure people are employed – we have 30 to 35 people employed (with) no government subsidy, no help,” he said. “The supermarket is the one that makes the money to try to move forward and create industry.” The owner of the independent supermarket in Seisia says rising costs make it hard for businesses to operate in the region. Source: NITV The situation has worsened with an increase in freight costs. Freight company Sea Swift – the only freight company servicing this region – recently raised its fees by 14.5 per cent, blaming increasing labour and maintenance costs since the COVID pandemic. “Unfortunately, we reached a point where freight charges did not cover the cost of supporting our freight network,” a statement to The Point, from Sea Swift’s CEO Dwayne Freeman said. “Our recent price change has meant an increase of approximately 11 cents on the average cost of transporting a litre of milk, 4 cents on a loaf of bread, 6 cents on a kilo of flour, and 11 cents on a kilo of potatoes to remote island communities. “In line with our ongoing commitment to connecting Northern Australia, this price change helps us to ensure the continuation of safe and reliable scheduled freight services to remote and coastal communities now and into the future.” Gardens deliver healthier options On nearby Thursday Island, Aunty Goeynaw Isua has turned to gardening in the face of the increasing cost of living. She grows as much of her own food as possible. “At the moment pensioners can’t afford [fresh fruit and vegetables], they’ll go for a cheaper way which is most of the time not good for your health,” she said. “We’re talking about changing our lifestyle but it’s not easy because most of the time it’s not cheap, the food that keeps you healthy.” Aunty Goeynaw Isua is very proud of the fresh food she grows in her garden Source: NITV / Kerri Ritchie She called on authorities to step in and help the community. “I think the local government should come up with a way with the supermarkets to find a solution on how our people can afford this because most of our people are low income earners,” she said. For Aunty Goeynaw, growing her own food has many benefits – not just the savings. She says gardening is an important part of Torres Strait Islander culture, with the added bonus of keeping her fit and healthy. She wished more people could access healthier options. “We do have diabetes in our family and this is what encouraged me to lead that healthy lifestyle to beat it in a way,” she said. “Part of that is exercise daily whether it’s doing things around the house or going for a walk.” She’s doing what she can to spread her message of healthy food. Aunty Goeynaw volunteers her time to teach children how to cook healthy food, as well as passing down cultural knowledge like how to weave. “It’s wonderful for children to be seeing elders like myself, older people, to promote this is why I am standing here because I have changed my lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle,” she said. Communications also a challenge But when things do go wrong, the remote living can have dire consequences. Poor communications services remain an additional challenge to residents. Francis Elu and Peri Mudu found themselves in a desperate situation when they tried to call for an ambulance for their mother Source: NITV / Keira Jenkins In Seisia, Francis Elu and Peri Mudu said they felt the real impact of this when they recently tried to call an ambulance for Ms Mudu’s mother, Thelma, who was having difficulty breathing. The reception in their home was so patchy, they couldn’t even make the emergency call. “We made the call in the house but there wasn’t much reception, and so we went out onto the verandah and then we had to come downstairs,” Mr Elu said. The couple did eventually get through to emergency services and an ambulance came. The family flagged it down outside of their home. Ms Mudu’s mother is now at home safe and well, and despite the challenges they say Seisia is their home, and they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Minor Injuries In Three-Vehicle Accident | News, Sports, Jobs – Evening Observer https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/minor-injuries-in-three-vehicle-accident-news-sports-jobs-evening-observer/ A three-vehicle accident led to minor injuries on Wednesday afternoon in the town of Dunkirk. At about 3:13 p.m., Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to Vineyard Drive for a reported motor vehicle accident with personal injury. Upon arrival patrols located three vehicles involved. An investigation at the scene alleged that 31-year-old Jonathan Gonzalez Colon of Dunkirk was traveling east and rear ended a vehicle that was stopped at a red light. This vehicle then struck another vehicle that was also stopped at the red light. Gonzalez Colon was found to be driving with a suspended license, following too closely and using speed not reasonable and prudent for the road conditions. A passenger in Gonzalez’s vehicle was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Gonzalez Colon was issued traffic citations and will answer the charges in the town of Dunkirk court at a later date and time. Patrols were assisted at the scene by Alstar EMS and East Dunkirk Fire Department. Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

The UAE Metaverse Healthcare Projects Pushing Medical Frontiers – PYMNTS.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-uae-metaverse-healthcare-projects-pushing-medical-frontiers-pymnts-com/ As part of Dubai’s ambition to become a global center for metaverse business and technology, the emirate recently inaugurated its first hospital in the metaverse built by the UAE-based healthcare provider Medcare. See more: Dubai Ramps Up Efforts to Become Global Metaverse Capital The Metaverse healthcare facility mirrors Dubai’s real-world Medcare Women & Children Hospital and will be used in their medical tourism initiatives, giving potential patients an immersive experience of the hospital prior to visiting in person. Announcing the launch, Dr. Shanila Laiju, CEO Medcare Hospitals and Medical Centers, said: “Our ultimate aim is to deliver actual healthcare services by incorporating the delivery of real-time consultations through our team of over 400 medical experts.” She added that they expect traditional telemedicine services to be replaced by a need for Metaverse interactions in the long run, enabling “our patients to receive a more tangible and collaborative service.” Earlier this year, another UAE healthcare company, Thumbay Group, announced its own intentions to build a virtual hospital where doctors and patients can meet for remote consultations. Thumbay Group is also working with UAE-based Gulf Medical University to incorporate Virtual Reality (VR) into medical training. While metaverse skeptics might argue that such initiatives are little more than telehealth with 3D glasses, another project unveiled at the Gitex 2022 conference in the Dubai World Trade Center earlier this month is proving that remote medical treatment can go beyond consultations to treatment. While there have been other experiments with digital eye care, previous attempts assess the change in a patient’s visual acuity over time by asking the customer to distinguish several letters and shapes in the range of their current prescription. These new tests, however, use technology developed by the U.S. digital optometry specialist CLEAR to test a more comprehensive range of prescription factors including visual acuity, contrast, pupil size, accommodation, binocular balancing and more, which the company states are able to deliver clinically verified 20/20 prescriptions. With plans to first roll out remote eye tests in India and the UAE, the technology will be available to users of the ShopDoc Metaverse platform. ShopDoc has already entered into agreements with over 100 eye clinics in the UAE as part of efforts to promote its metaverse digital eye test project. Earlier this year, surgeons separated two conjoined twins in Brazil after months of trialing the techniques using VR projections of the twins, based on Computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. With some members of the team based in London and others in Rio de Janeiro, for the first time, surgeons in separate countries wore headsets and operated in the same virtual theater in real-time. The technology, which Dr. Rashed Al Shaeel of Burjeel Medical City compared to “a surgical sat-nav,” provides real-time patient data to surgeons and shows them where to make incisions. At the same time, colleagues can remotely monitor the operation through the headset’s cameras, giving specialists anywhere in the world a live view of the patient. Crypto Asset Manager Valkyrie Lost The Biggest Investor In Its $11M Funding Round CoinDesk
Crypto Asset Manager Valkyrie Lost The Biggest Investor In Its $11M Funding Round – CoinDesk https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/crypto-asset-manager-valkyrie-lost-the-biggest-investor-in-its-11m-funding-round-coindesk/ Elizabeth Napolitano is a news reporter at CoinDesk. Months after announcing it had raised $11.15 million, crypto asset manager Valkyrie Investments earlier this month revealed – quietly – that the biggest participant in the funding round reneged, leaving Valkyrie scrambling to find others to fill the gap. In a letter that went largely unnoticed until now, Valkyrie CEO Leah Wald wrote that an entity she called CSA Evolution VC Fund was no longer able to contribute $5 million toward the transaction. “We had a signed subscription doc in-hand, and their [limited partners] were blue chip firms that have impeccable reputations in the business,” she wrote in the letter dated Oct. 7. “In the months that have since passed, though, those LPs backed out and the investor was unable to meet its obligation.” She went on to say that Valkyrie was looking for other investors to step in. When reached Wednesday, a Valkyrie spokesperson said, “we of course are in advanced talks with a number of potential investors who have expressed interest in our firm, and hope to have positive news in the coming weeks.” Before the publication of this story, there was a single Google search result for CSA Evolution VC Fund: Wald’s letter. There are signs, however, that there is an association of some kind with Clear Sky Advisers, a Houston-based firm that describes itself as an investor in “environmental credits and companies focused on decarbonization, electrification and resource sustainability.” First, there’s the obvious: Clear Sky Advisers can logically be shortened to CSA. But far more significantly than that, Valkyrie’s June press release on the more than $11 million fundraising listed, among others, a participant it called “Clearsky.” There was no mention of CSA Evolution VC Fund. Furthermore, there’s a person who clearly connects Valkyrie and Clear Sky Advisers. The CEO of the latter, Shawn Singh, is mentioned in Valkyrie regulatory filings for its exchange-traded funds (ETFs). He is listed, for instance, as a trustee of the Valkyrie ETF Trust II. Clear Sky Advisers declined to comment. Singh did not respond to multiple requests for comment. In June, Valkyrie Chief Investment Officer Steven McClurg downplayed the importance of Valkyrie’s raise. He told CoinDesk that Valkyrie had even declined some offers, which were unsolicited. In the end, the decision to accept the investments was “less about the money and more about [forming] strategic partnerships” with key industry players, McClurg said. “We really weren’t anticipating raising any capital right now.” That message conflicts with Valkyrie’s own regulatory filings. In March, the company told the SEC it was seeking to raise $20 million and already had $5.1 million in fresh capital banked. (Valkyrie’s previous funding round was a $10 million Series A in June 2021). And Wald’s comments suggest Valkyrie is still hungry for capital. “Over the past few months, we explored a number of avenues and potential solutions to get the promised investment in the door,” she wrote. “In fact, the firm’s principal recently made an investment from his own personal funds.” And now Valkyrie has “decided for now to pursue alternative funding sources, including additional investors.” Valkyrie had hoped to use venture capital money to fund its staking and mining operations and ultimately court more institutional investors in the digital assets space. The firm currently runs several operations, including a decentralized finance (DeFi) hedge fund, three ETFs listed on Nasdaq, several protocol trusts and a protocol treasury management business. In the second quarter, the firm reported $1.2 billion in assets under management. “It pains me to have to write this letter,” Wald wrote. “Thankfully, we are already talking to a handful of prominent investors who may be willing to step in and fill this gap, and are eager to move past this challenge.” Sign up for Market Wrap, our daily newsletter explaining what happened today in crypto markets – and why. US Busts Network Providing Technology To Russian Military The Associated Press
US Busts Network Providing Technology To Russian Military – The Associated Press https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-busts-network-providing-technology-to-russian-military-the-associated-press/ WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration on Wednesday announced a round of criminal charges and sanctions related to a complicated scheme to procure military technologies from U.S. manufacturers and illegally supply them to Russia for its war in Ukraine. Some of the equipment was recovered on battlefields in Ukraine, the Justice Department said, and other nuclear proliferation technology was intercepted in Latvia before it could be shipped to Russia. The Justice Department charged nine people in separate cases in New York and Connecticut, as well as two oil brokers for Venezuela. The defendants are accused of acquiring the military technology from U.S. companies and then laundering tens of millions of dollars for wealthy Russian businessmen and other sanctioned entities. Some of the defendants are also accused of brokering illicit oil deals for the Venezuelan state-owned oil company. “As I have said, our investigators and prosecutors will be relentless in their efforts to identify, locate, and bring to justice those whose illegal acts undermine the rule of law and enable the Russian regime to continue its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. The five defendants charged in New York are all Russian nationals, and two have been arrested. All four defendants in the Connecticut case — three Latvians and one Ukrainian — were taken into custody months ago at the request of U.S. authorities. The criminal charges complement the latest round of Biden administration sanctions targeting Russia. The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced sanctions Wednesday against one of the men charged by the Justice Department, designating Yury Orekhov and two of his firms, Nord-Deutsche Industrieanlagenbau GmbH and Opus Energy Trading LLC, for procuring advanced semiconductors and microprocessors used in fighter aircraft and ballistic and hypersonic missile systems among other military uses. Orekhov and the firms ultimately sent the materials to Russian end-users, including companies designated by various federal agencies, in violation of U.S. export controls. The Justice Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control worked in coordination to identify the Russian network. Along with sanctions on members of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner-circle, the U.S. has frozen Russian Central Bank funds and imposed aggressive export controls. The latest effort is dedicated to preventing Russia from procuring military technologies. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said in a statement Wednesday that Russia has increasingly struggled to get the technologies it needs to sustain the war “thanks to the unprecedented sanctions and export controls imposed by our broad coalition of partners and allies.” “We know these efforts are having a direct effect on the battlefield,” he said, “as Russia’s desperation has led them to turn to inferior suppliers and outdated equipment.” Information from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, presented Friday at the Treasury Department, said Russia has lost more than 6,000 pieces of equipment since the beginning of the war in late February and is turning to Iran and North Korea for supplies. Russia is reliant on foreign production machinery and ongoing banking sanctions have undercut the Kremlin’s ability to obtain financing for importing military equipment, the ODNI said.

Microsoft Filing Details Cloud Gaming Thoughts, Call Of Duty Deal – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/microsoft-filing-details-cloud-gaming-thoughts-call-of-duty-deal-the-washington-post/ After years of touting cloud gaming, Microsoft presented a much less optimistic outlook on the nascent technology this week. The company called cloud gaming “immature” and “unproven” in a dense, tidbit-rich filing as part of its latest effort to push through a $68.7 billion deal to acquire video game maker Activision Blizzard, pending regulatory approval. “Today cloud gaming remains in its infancy and unproven as a consumer proposition,” Microsoft wrote in a Tuesday response to the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), adding that it didn’t expect the situation to improve in the next few years. The company doesn’t foresee cloud gaming will replace consoles or PC, and called it “a new and immature technology.” The CMA wrote on Sept. 1 that it would launch a full investigation into whether Microsoft buying Activision could hurt market competition in the U.K. The regulator argued that Microsoft could stifle its rivals by removing Call of Duty from PlayStation or by adding Activision’s games to its cloud gaming service. The deal faces scrutiny from multiple international regulators and the United States Federal Trade Commission. Microsoft has repeatedly presented cloud gaming as a way to enjoy its games and supplement console sales that trail behind Sony’s. At flagship industry trade show E3 in 2019, one of the industry’s last in-person conferences until events resumed in 2022 — Microsoft showed off its cloud gaming service Project xCloud in eye-catching demos to gamers, saying the service could play all 3,500 games in the Xbox catalogue, and an additional 1,900 games still in development. “We’re eager to see how this space continues to grow and look forward to supporting development studios, our partners and others in the industry who are investing into cloud gaming as it invites more people to experience games,” said Xbox Cloud Gaming vice president Catherine Gluckstein in an Oct. 6 statement to The Washington Post. Gluckstein’s comments came in response to questions about the state of gaming after the shutdown of a competing cloud platform, Google’s Stadia. Google announced Sept. 29 that Stadia would shut down by January 2023. Microsoft’s message in its response to the CMA Tuesday was more tempered, arguing that customers are likely to take a long time to switch over to cloud gaming, and are likely to stick to PC and console for most games. Despite the hype around cloud gaming, Microsoft wrote that gamers don’t care about whether their games are stored locally or in the cloud. Instead, the technology needs to win them over on game content and actual tech specs, such as graphics and latency. Even as the cloud gaming landscape has constricted with the shuttering of Stadia, brands like Logitech, Ubisoft and Razer are still optimistically promoting their cloud gaming services. The Microsoft filing also contained an assortment of other facts, some more recent than others, offering a rare peek into the notoriously tight-lipped games industry. Xbox has agreed to not bring Call of Duty to Game Pass “for a number of years” to honor Activision Blizzard’s ongoing deal with Sony giving early access to PlayStation users, which ends in 2024. Microsoft revealed in the filing it had offered to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation through 2027, but Sony ultimately rejected this offer. Microsoft’s response to concerns over Call of Duty has been to continue insisting it won’t remove the lucrative franchise from PlayStation, as Microsoft has repeatedly told gamers and regulators it would lose money on the franchise if Call of Duty left Sony’s platform. Microsoft also detailed in the filing its plans to build a mobile game store across devices, which the company first announced back in February. The mobile store would adapt the preexisting Xbox Store that consumers already know on PC and console to the more portable platform to challenge Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Microsoft’s filing is significantly more candid about the console wars than some of its blog posts and statements from executives over the years. It fully admits to the U.K. regulator that Sony and Nintendo have beaten the company on the number of consoles sold and number of monthly active users. Microsoft’s filing even contained criticism of Call of Duty, noting how 2021′s installment “Call of Duty: Vanguard” was panned by reviewers on release, and that the franchise could fail over time. In its bid to convince the U.K. regulator that the acquisition wouldn’t hurt competition, Microsoft laid bare several of its shortcomings in the filing. The company has never matched Sony’s advantage on gaming exclusives and console sales. It also said Sony has Xbox Game Pass blocked on PlayStation. All told, the filing shows Microsoft pleading it’s more like David than Goliath when it comes to gaming as it tries to gain regulatory approval.

Millions Being Poured Into Washington State To Fight Gun Violence – KUOW News And Information https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/millions-being-poured-into-washington-state-to-fight-gun-violence-kuow-news-and-information/ The United States Justice Department is pouring more money into Washington communities to help combat gun and other forms of violence. U.S Attorney Nick Brown announced Tuesday that more than $3 million in grants is being funneled to organizations in Washington state. “These federal dollars help each department meet its local priorities,” said U.S. Attorney Nick Brown. “Western Washington organizations also obtained funding for innovative programs aimed at youth violence intervention. I’m pleased to see the Peacemaking Academy, the Children and Youth Justice Center, Burien’s Enhanced Youth Services, and the Washington Partnership on Juvenile Justice all obtained substantial federal dollars to support their work.” The Peacemaking Academy will receive $300,000 (a program from Alliance for Gun Responsibility Foundation). Seattle’s Children and Youth Justice Center will get $2 million for leadership and intervention programs. Also, Burien’s Enhanced Youth Services will get $300,000, and the Washington Partnership on Juvenile Justice will get $1 million — both are focused on preventing youth violence through intervention. On top of the youth programs, 10 cities, three counties, and the state of Washington will get a combined $3.7 million to help with law enforcement needs. The funding comes from a larger pool of grant money — a total of 19 federal grants adding up to nearly $10 million aimed at public safety and law enforcement. A large portion comes from the Byrne Grant, named in honor of a New York police officer killed in the line of duty. In Seattle, the city will also get $1 million for its officer body camera program. The funds will specifically help pay for the cost of migrating digital files from worn body cameras into cloud storage, so they can be readily available to the City Attorney and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Last week, the DOJ announced it was going to spend nearly $300,000 to help people in Snohomish, Pierce, and Clark Counties address gun violence.

Here’s What Travel Insurance Covers – Yahoo Finance https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/heres-what-travel-insurance-covers-yahoo-finance/ If you determine travel insurance makes sense for you, then try to plan ahead. / Credit: Getty Images When you’re preparing for a big trip, you’ll want to make sure you have all of your ducks in a row: passports ready, flights and hotels booked, itinerary mapped out – plus, any necessary backup plans. After all, whenever you’re investing time and money into something, it’s worth having a fallback in case things don’t go as planned. That’s when travel insurance can help. Travel insurance can give you peace of mind and protect your wallet in the event of an emergency, unforeseen event or situation. And the options are vast. Most travel insurance policies are comprehensive and include an array of benefits for travelers. However, you can also choose a plan that’s specific to your needs. If you’re interested in buying travel insurance, there are several online marketplaces available, so you can view multiple plans at once. Simply fill in your traveler and trip information to view your current options. What travel insurance covers As mentioned above, travel insurance offers financial protection for travelers who may need to cancel their trip, receive medical care during their trip, and to cover other losses (like lost luggage or damaged items) or unexpected events. “Popular benefits on a policy include coverage for trip expenses, medical emergencies, travel delays, and luggage,” travel insurance company Squaremouth says. Here’s a breakdown of the different types of benefits and coverage travel insurance can offer: Trip Cancellation: This type of insurance allows travelers to potentially request up to 100% reimbursement for their trip if they need to cancel their plans for a long list of covered reasons. Medical & Evacuation:  This type of benefit can help cover any costs travelers may face if they get sick or injured and require treatment or assistance (like an ambulance, hospital trip, etc.) during their vacation. Some countries even require this type of coverage, so make sure you do your research before booking your trip. “You absolutely need to have medical evacuation insurance,” CBS News travel editor Peter Greenberg previously advised. “If you get sick or injured outside of the U.S., it pays for you to be stabilized medically wherever you are, and to get you home to a medical facility and doctor of your choice.” Delay: This one is pretty straightforward. This will reimburse you for any costs related to travel delays or missed connections (possibly meals, lodging, transportation, etc., depending on the specific plan).Luggage: If your luggage is lost, delayed or damaged in some way, then this benefit will allow you to get reimbursed for related purchases in the meantime.Accidental Death: In the tragic event that death or a serious accident occurs during a trip, this type of insurance will provide a “lump sum payment,” Squaremouth says.Pre-Existing Condition: Coverage for pre-existing conditions isn’t typically included with your travel insurance unless you specifically purchase a policy that lists this as an option. “A policy with the Pre-Existing Condition benefit can provide medical coverage for a pre-existing condition in the event of an emergency during your trip, just as it would for a new medical condition,” SquareMouth says. If you don’t want to be limited to specific reasons listed under Trip Cancellation, then you can upgrade to the Cancel For Any Reason policy (just note this can increase your premium up to 50%, per SquareMouth). If you determine travel insurance makes sense for you, then try to plan ahead. The earlier, the better in most cases. Get started now! Trip Cancellation can be purchased up to 24 hours before your trip. But coverage like Cancel For Any Reason or Pre-Existing Conditions typically needs to be locked in within 14 to 21 days after your initial booking date. How to buy travel insurance Buying travel insurance is easy. You can purchase it with the click of a button from the comfort of your own home when you use an online marketplace like Squaremouth, where you can compare travel insurance policies from multiple major U.S. providers. Travel insurance is typically just a small fraction of your total trip cost (an estimated 5-10% of your total costs on average). Simply follow these steps to get a free quote and purchase a plan today: Fill out your trip information (departure and return dates, destination)Fill out the traveler information (country and state of residence, citizenship, number of travelers and their ages)Fill out the information about the trip cost (whether you want cancellation coverage, trip cost amount, the deposit date and whether you have payments left) Click “Search Results” to view different travel insurance policies you can obtain with your tripEvaluate the different travel insurance policies (click “Full Policy Detail”) and compare plansBuy the plan that fits your needs best and is the most cost-effective

Hartland Commission Rejects Multi-Purpose Building Proposal | Oconomowoc Business News | Gmtoday.com – Greater Milwaukee Today | GMToday.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/hartland-commission-rejects-multi-purpose-building-proposal-oconomowoc-business-news-gmtoday-com-greater-milwaukee-today-gmtoday-com/ HARTLAND — The Plan Commission on Monday rejected a proposal to bring a multipurpose building containing apartments, an events space and a hotel to 221 Cottonwood Ave. The proposed four-story building would have had two floors for a total of 26 apartment units, a floor consisting of 23 hotel rooms and a first-floor community area with event spaces, hotel laundry and an exercise room. An on-site parking garage would have had a storage facility and parking spots. The proposal’s concept plan was rejected 5-3 with the building’s large size and limited onsite parking prompting opposition. Commissioners David de Courcy-Bower and Ann Wallschlager motioned to reject the project. Stay up-to-date on all the latest Oconomowoc-area news with a subscription: Click here “You’re trying to put an awful lot into a very small piece of property. You’re trying to do apartments, you’re trying to do a hotel and you’re trying to do an event center,” de Courcy-Bower said. “I’ve got significant concerns with the event center, which then has an outdoor area that they’re going to put off right next to residential housing, there’s like no room for screening, buffering noise.” Hartland regulations would require this facility to have 74 on-site parking spots but the proposed project only had 46 spots, according to Commissioner Jeffery Bierman. A new ordinance would need to be created to allow the developer to include municipal parking to count toward the project’s onsite parking for the project to come to fruition, he said. The developer, James Kupfer of Kupfer Investments LLC, said he doesn’t anticipate parking being an issue because of how the pandemic impacted the events industry. He said the industry hasn’t fully recovered, nor does he expect it ever will. “COVID has changed everybody’s business … The event business has not (recovered) and the feeling in the event business is that it’s not going to,” Kupfer said. “What is happening in the event business is you wanted to have a wedding, your (partner) wanted to have 200 people (but then) COVID happened and they say you know what? Let’s take it down to the 125 (without) the 75 we really don’t know that well.” de Courcy-Bower was also concerned about how the building would align with the village’s comprehensive plan. He said the plan allows for three-story buildings with a potential opportunity for a fourth story. The potential fourth story is understood by de Courcy-Bower to be allowed if it uses a “diminished upper story,” which has a slopped roof making up part of the fourth story. The proposed building didn’t comply with the “diminished upper story” requirement. Village President Jeffery Pfannerstill said he is proud of the village and the process the proposal navigated itself through to get to this point. Pfannerstill said when he was originally elected in 2017 it was difficult for residents to be aware of these large-scale projects until they came to the Village Board. Because of this, he implemented a new process that requires large projects to go before the Village Board prior to reaching the Plan Commission. He believes this allowed the high number of opposing residents present at Monday’s meeting to voice concerns early on in the process. “Something we instituted five years ago, was that the developer would come and propose to the Village Board before (the proposal) even went to the Plan Commission so that everybody would know about it,” he said. “I’d say that I, and the board, did a pretty good job at making sure (we) were very transparent.”

It may have been Rated R. They say a rating like that will kill the movie’s box office potential. THR Business Managers: CAA’s Joanna Popper Talks Anthony Hopkins NFT – The Hollywood Reporter – Hollywood Reporter https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/thr-business-managers-caas-joanna-popper-talks-anthony-hopkins-nft-the-hollywood-reporter-hollywood-reporter/ CAA chief metaverse officer Joanna Popper knew Anthony Hopkins’ first non-fungible token drop would be popular but didn’t anticipate it selling out in seven minutes. Popper joined The Hollywood Reporter senior business editor Ashley Cullins on Wednesday in a keynote Q&A at THR’s annual Power Business Managers event. She discussed topics ranging from the evolution of the internet to capitalizing on opportunities in the metaverse to the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Popper explained that the metaverse is the “next wave of the internet.” First was the dotcom boom and then came the “social, mobile, cloud disruption where we started to use our phones for everything.” She said this wave will be “more interactive, more immersive, more 3D and more real time.” It’s not gaming, she elaborated, but a “gamified experience” that emphasizes connection. “We imagine that there will be a similar level of disruption in how content is created and distributed,” she said. Popper emphasized that anyone can capitalize on the disruption. She pointed to Hopkins, whose first NFT drop of a series of more than 1,000 art pieces inspired by his career in Hollywood, sold out on the OpenSea marketplace. In the art world, artists have historically only profited off of the initial sale. She said that contracts written for NFTs allow the creators to share in profits for each subsequent purchase. Hopkins has already made more money on the secondary market, she shared. When asked about new ways of exploiting existing intellectual property, Popper said NFTs allow for limitless opportunities limited only by the owners’ creativity and imagination. Her team recently signed the owners of Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Jenkins the Valet. The agency is now working with them for opportunities across film, books and podcasts. “Hollywood is always on the search for interesting new IP that has a built-in community, whether it’s a book or platform or newspaper article that picked up a lot of buzz,” Popper said. “There’s a play here where you as the owner are able to then commercialize and do anything.” The CAA executive also emphasized that the pandemic accelerated opportunities in the metaverse. Over the past two years, for example, she said that people have increasingly embraced concerts in virtual worlds like Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft. In addition to selling merchandise, she said that people can even monetize dance movements for their avatars. The keynote ended a breakfast celebrating Hollywood’s Top Business Managers, who gathered in-person for the first time in three years. Richard Raffetto of City National Bank, the presenting sponsor of the event, kicked off a lineup of speakers that included THR executive vp and co-publisher Victoria Gold. (See photos of the event here.) This year’s Business Manager Icon honoree was Richard Feldstein, whose clients across Hollywood include Adam Levine, Paul Rudd and Kate Hudson. Beanie Feldstein, Richard’s daughter, and Levine presented him with the award in prerecorded videos. “Rich is like my second father, and I’m just really happy I didn’t go poor, and it’s all attributed to you because without you, I very well might be,” Levine said. “Thank you for constantly pestering me and nagging me to save my money.” The Maroon 5 frontman told Feldstein to celebrate and “crack open a diet Coke.” Beanie Feldstein shared a running joke in the family. “When our dad calls us, he leaves us a message ‘Rich Feldstein, CPA, call me back.’” She said he now has to say “Rich Feldstein, Business Manager Icon.” The Booksmart actress also said that her father’s job has “always been a huge part of [his] identity” and that she appreciates how much “heart, brainpower and respect he puts” into his work. Richard Feldstein recalled extensive changes in his line of work over a 50-year career, including the rise of the computer, the internet and cryptocurrency. He emphasized the significance of embracing them. “The change is accelerating,” he said. “I see every five, 10 years there’s something really impactful on business management.” THR‘s 12th annual breakfast was held at Spago Beverly Hills and livestreamed on Zoom. Why Reddit Is The Best Platform For Research On Crypto Bravewords.com
Why Reddit Is The Best Platform For Research On Crypto Bravewords.com
Why Reddit Is The Best Platform For Research On Crypto – Bravewords.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/why-reddit-is-the-best-platform-for-research-on-crypto-bravewords-com/ Among the most crucial necessities for both veteran crypto experts and newcomers is access to reliable information. As a result, sites that report on the cryptocurrency industry are providing invaluable support to its rapid growth. This finding explains why social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have become so important to the community-based approach that characterises the cryptocurrency sector.  Because of this, more and more people working in the crypto industry are gravitating toward social news and discussion websites like Reddit. We’ll go over the basics of Reddit, show you around, and give you some tips on what to look for in a crypto-specific subreddit. What Exactly Is Reddit? Social media platform Reddit bills itself as “the main site of the web.” While this claim may appear implausible at first, a quick look around the site will show you differently. The software organises the vast amount of data it stores into distinct discussion groups. Since users of Reddit are free to build communities devoted to sharing material on whatever subject they want, the site serves a wide variety of subcultures.  Users, often known as Redditors, may participate in the site by posting links, images, writings, and videos. Moreover, you have the option to either upvote or downvote the efforts of others. Subreddits Based on our definition, crypto Subreddits are communities on Reddit dedicated to discussing cryptocurrency and related issues. The popularity of Reddit within the large crypto community has attracted the attention of crypto-focused businesses and information hubs. Subreddits have been set up so that people who use or are interested in the platform’s services may talk to one another and address any questions or concerns they may have. Furthermore, anybody may start a crypto-themed Subreddit. Reasons Reddit Is The Best Crypto Platform For Crypto Research Multiple forms of communication are Facilitated by Reddit. Reddit’s multimedia sharing features are a big draw for the crypto community. Users may choose the most effective method of conveying information to the group. This is especially the case with Subreddits where users often provide helpful resources like Best Crypto to Buy Right Now on Reddit and how-to guides as well as cryptocurrency charts. They may upload videos themselves, or they can send a hyperlink to a video hosted on YouTube. Quickest Way To Keep Up To Date Reddit is likely the first social media site where crypto news is disseminated, and this is well-known among crypto companies and news outlets. That’s why they’ve committed some of their resources to monitor crypto-specific subreddits in order to learn more about the prevalent attitudes in the crypto space. This will help them determine what types of products or content are most popular within the crypto community. Great To Build A Strong Crypto Personality  Experts in the field of cryptography often provide helpful insights and answers to user questions in various crypto-related Subreddits. They understand that the more useful and insightful information they provide about cryptocurrencies they publish, the more others will appreciate their expertise and respect their judgement. This is encouraging news for them and any associated businesses or endeavours. Finding The Right Subreddits After covering the inner workings of Reddit and its increasing popularity within the crypto community, this part will go into what to look for in a crypto-specific subreddit. This depends on the following elements: What The Particular Subreddit Specializes In As we said previously, Subreddits tend to focus on certain niches. Consequently, you must think about the specific area of cryptocurrency that said Subreddit covers. There’s no use in joining a Cryptocurrency-related Subreddit if you’re not going to get any value out of it. Given that this is the case, it is wise to learn the fundamentals of your chosen crypto vocation or specialisation. Then, check to see whether the selected Subreddits have the tools you need to reach your scalability goals. Let’s look at a crypto trader as an example. He is well aware of the need of having ready access to relevant and timely information, such as news, quality crypto signals, gateways to cryptocurrency exchange, and development reports pertaining to the crypto assets in said portfolio. Having compiled his essential requirements, it is reasonable to assume that the finest cryptocurrency exchanges Subreddits are those that fit him. Member Activeness Simply joining a Subreddit dedicated to talks about your chosen area of cryptography is not sufficient. Instead, you should look at Subreddit’s activity to see whether its users are determined to assist you. Subreddits with a large number of members probably won’t be helpful in any way for your cryptocurrency-related endeavours. Therefore, before submitting yourself to a potentially hostile world on such Subreddits, it is wise to confirm the response of its members. Quality Of Content Quality, on the other hand, demonstrates how valuable the member’s inputs really are, in contrast to plain activity, which reflects the member’s enthusiasm to add to the community.  If you’re having trouble finding postings that are really of interest to you, it doesn’t matter how much hype surrounds your favourite crypto Subreddit; you’ll soon lose interest. This idea also applies if the participants of a Subreddit are resistant to hearing alternative ways of conveying their viewpoint. Using visuals or movies might be helpful when trying to convey the nuances of something like crypto mining. You may have to put in additional work to understand explanations provided in text format if the self-proclaimed specialists in the Subreddit are hesitant to impart information through training videos. For this reason, before signing up for a crypto-specific Subreddit, you should research the community’s openness to suggestions and the level of discourse there. Beginner Friendly Subreddits Individuals enter Subreddits since they desire to be members of a community with people who are eager to teach each other and spread the word about a certain topic. For this reason, newcomers to the crypto space should avoid crypto-related Subreddits that don’t provide a welcoming and learning environment.  Certain subreddit will have more advanced topics and users will not take to kindly to beginner questions.  Keeping this in mind, experts suggest you subscribe to Subreddits whose ethos is centred on guiding newcomers through the ever-changing world of cryptocurrencies.

U.S. Sells Oil Reserves As Biden Tackles Pump Prices Ahead Of Elections – Reuters.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-sells-oil-reserves-as-biden-tackles-pump-prices-ahead-of-elections-reuters-com/ WASHINGTON, Oct 19 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden announced a plan on Wednesday to sell off the rest of his release from the nation’s emergency oil reserve by year’s end and begin refilling the stockpile as he tries to dampen high gasoline prices ahead of midterm elections on Nov. 8. Biden is seeking to add enough supply to prevent near-term oil price spikes that could punish Americans, and assure U.S. drillers that the government will enter the market as a buyer if prices plunge too low. He said 15 million barrels of oil will be offered from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) – part of a record 180 million-barrel release that began in May, and added the United States is ready to tap reserves again early next year to rein in prices. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com “We’re calling it a ready and release plan,” Biden said at a White House event. “This allows us to move quickly to prevent oil price spikes and respond to international events.” Biden’s use of the federal government’s reserve to manage oil price spikes and attempts to increase U.S. production underscore how the Ukraine crisis and inflation have changed the policies of a president who came into office vowing to cut U.S. dependence on the fossil fuel industry. The White House had an added sense of urgency after the Saudi Arabia-led Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries rankled Biden by siding with Russia and agreeing to a production cut, prompting the president to declare that the U.S.-Saudi relationship needs a revaluation. “With my announcement today, we’re going to continue to stabilize markets and decrease the prices at a time when the actions of other countries have caused such volatility,” Biden said. Biden blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine for higher crude and gasoline prices, while noting prices had fallen 30% from their peak earlier this year. He also repeated a plea to U.S. energy companies, gasoline retailers and refiners, asking them to stop using record-breaking profits to buy back stock, and to invest in production instead. Prices “are not falling fast enough,” he said. “Families are hurting,” and gasoline prices are squeezing their budgets, he added. The president, facing criticism from Republicans who charge he is tapping the SPR for political reasons and not because there is an emergency, also said he would refill the nation’s stockpiles in the upcoming years. U.S. President Joe Biden calls for a federal gas tax holiday as he speaks about gas prices during remarks in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building’s South Court Auditorium at the White House in Washington, U.S., June 22, 2022. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque He said his aim would be to replenish stocks when U.S. crude is around $70 a barrel, a level he said would still allow companies to profit while being a good deal for taxpayers. The U.S. benchmark was around $85 on Wednesday. The SPR, which is now at its lowest levels since 1984, is more than half full with more than 400 million barrels of oil, Biden said, “more than enough for any emergency drawdown.” The administration’s plan was to end the sale of the 180 million barrels in November. However, purchases by companies, including Marathon Petroleum Corp (MPC.N), Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) and Valero Energy Corp (VLO.N), were slower than expected over the summer and some 15 million barrels remained unsold. Those will be put up for bidding for delivery in December, a senior administration official said. Reuters Graphics Reuters Graphics PUSHING ENERGY COMPANIES TO DO MORE U.S. presidents have little control over petroleum prices, but the country’s massive gasoline consumption – the highest in the world – means high prices at the pump can be political poison. Retail gasoline prices have fallen from a high in June, but remain above historical averages, and are a major contributor to inflation. The gap between wholesale and retail prices has grown, too, spurring White House warnings against price-gouging. Biden said oil companies should feel more confident about investing in production with the new SPR repurchase pledge, and stop pushing stock buybacks. “So my message to all companies is this: You’re sitting on record profits and we’re giving you more certainty. So you can act now to increase oil production,” he said. Companies “should not be using your profits to buy back stock or for dividends. Not now, not while a war is raging,” he said, asking them to bring down prices they charge at the pump. In recent weeks, the oil industry has grown increasingly concerned the administration might take the drastic step of banning or limiting exports of gasoline or diesel to help build back sagging U.S. inventories. They have called on the administration to take the option off the table, a move officials are unwilling to do. “We are keeping all tools on the table, you know, anything that could potentially help ensure stable domestic supply,” the official said. Mississippi Rolls Out Mobile ID For Statewide Elections – The Associated Press – En Español https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/mississippi-rolls-out-mobile-id-for-statewide-elections-the-associated-press-en-espanol/ JACKSON, Miss (AP) — Mississippi voters will be able to use their smartphones as voter identification in the November election, marking the first real test of a new statewide program that integrates technology into the voting process. The program was launched last year in the form of an Apple and Android app. It stores a resident’s driver’s license in digital form and allows someone to use their phone in places they would typically show a license, such as voting locations. Keith Davis, deputy commissioner for the Department of Public Safety, told WLBT-TV that around 100,000 people have downloaded the app, and more than 51,000 residents signed up for the digital driver’s license. Industry experts have estimated that the coronavirus pandemic sped up the widespread adoption of contactless identification methods by at least a decade. Mississippi is one of 10 states with a “fully engaged” mobile identification program, Davis said. Idemia, a multinational technology company headquartered in France, was contracted by DPS to build the app. The company has launched similar apps in several other states. Davis said DPS is also working to build a system that would allow people in Mississippi to use their phone instead of their license to check in with the Transportation Security Administration before boarding a flight. “We are working with Idemia as well as the other states that are rolling out mobile ID, working with TSA to get that put into place,” Davis told the news station.

Tee Grizzley Says He’s Done Rapping, Video Games And Movies Only – TMZ https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tee-grizzley-says-hes-done-rapping-video-games-and-movies-only-tmz/ Tee Grizzley All Rap Sounds the Same … Taking My Talents to Movies, Gaming!!! 10/19/2022 1:19 PM PT Tee Grizzley just released his new album, “Chapters of the Trenches,” and the Detroit-born rapper’s fans better soak it up, ’cause it’s also his last — he’s closing the book on his music career!!! The video game industry has been kind to Tee (and his pockets) amid the COVID-19 quarantine. During a new interview with Bootleg Kev, he claimed to bring in six-figures monthly from his growing “GTA” role-playing empire alone. According to Tee, he hasn’t been to a club in a minute and would rather sit at home making bank online than risk an altercation for an appearance fee … even if leaving five figures on the table makes his manager Melissa Tuan upset. TG’s denouncing rap altogether — he says it all sounds the same now — so, he’s rebranding himself as a professional gamer and part-time movie director who’s tired of the BS within the music industry. With “GTA6” currently in development, the digital sky’s the limit for TG’s Grizzley World. Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media. Part of the reason he could be backing away from hip hop is the recent loss of his close friend PnB Rock, who TG saw in September, the day before he was murdered. TG says genuine friends in the music industry are hard to come by, making the loss that much more crippling.

Witness Testifies Seeing Double Murder Victims Being Held In Basement – Daily American Online https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/witness-testifies-seeing-double-murder-victims-being-held-in-basement-daily-american-online/ The double murder trial began Wednesday with Somerset County Judge Scott Bittner issuing a bench warrant for one of the prosecution’s star witness, Jasmine Browning (Hinton), 27, formerly of Columbus, Ohio. Browning/Hinton was called to the stand on Tuesday and made it halfway to the witness stand in courtroom No. 1 before turning around and walking out. It appears she ran, for Senior Deputy Attorney General Evan Lowry II told the court at the beginning of Wednesday’s session that she is unavailable for testimony because she cannot be found. The bench warrant calls for her apprehension to be brought to the courtroom to testify. Past:Double murder trial day 4: A star witness for the prosecution backed out in the courtroom Browning/Hinton was the girlfriend of one of the defendants, Samson Washington, when the crime occurred. She is accused of luring the two murder victims, James Smith, 32, and Damian Staniszewski, 19, to a house where they were tortured and later driven to a wooded area just across Cambria County’s line into Somerset County and shot to death in March 2017. Browning/Hinton was severed from the case with her co-defendants and was scheduled to testify for the prosecution. The two friends, Smith, of Portage, and Staniszewski, of Duncansville, were accused by members of the Main Street Money Gang of Columbus, Ohio, who had set up shop in Johnstown, of stealing a large amount of money and drugs from their stash house, according to court documents. The house belonged to Washington, also known on the street as “Squad,” according to court documents. The three defendants on trial in the murder of Smith and Staniszewski are members of the Main Street Money Gang, according to law enforcement testimony. Back story Law enforcement became involved in the case when the family members of Smith and Staniszewski filed missing persons reports within days of their disappearance in March 2017. Police found an abandoned vehicle identified by Smith’s and Staniszewski’s families as the one the two men were last seen in together about a half-mile from where their remains would be discovered by a hunter in September. Initially, four men and Browning/Hinton were arrested and charged with the murder. Since the first arrest in December 2017 of Washington, and Devon Wyrick, known on the street as “Q” and Joshua Bergmann. Since then Browning/Hinton, Wyrick and Bergmann were severed from the case. Bergmann was never charged with homicide, but with aggravated assault, kidnapping and conspiracy to kidnap. Other:Sentencing in Somerset County: One sister, one boyfriend who overdoses and dies, another sister’s fate continued Bergmann testifies Bergmann, 42, formerly of Cresson and now an inmate in Cambria County Prison in an unrelated case, testified that a relative told him on March 27, 2017, that Smith and Staniszewski had an unusually large amount of drugs. He said he was using drugs and bought them from “Squad.” Information about his friend led him to call Washington. Sometimes drug dealers give out drugs to individuals without them having to pay for them up front and Bergmann testified, “I called and asked why he gave it to him and not to me.” He testified that Washington called him and asked him to show others in the gang where Smith lived. Bergmann said he drove to Portage followed by two vehicles with five gang members and did so. He went up and knocked on the door but Smith was not there, he said. Bergmann testified he received a small amount of coke and dope (heroin) or showing them where Smith lived. “I got a call from Squad” to go to one of the three houses the gang used to do drug deals. When he was there he saw “Q” or Wyrick outside, and once in the house he was taken to the basement where he saw Smith and Staniszewski on their knees, tied and stripped to their boxer shorts. He also saw other gang members and at least one gun. He went over to his friend, Smith, and “I smacked him across the face,” he testified. He was given more drugs and he left, he said. Defense attorney Ashlan Clark, who is defending Washington, questioned his exit. “You want the jury to believe that you got drugs and just left?” she asked. He replied that he did. Bergmann was arrested and charged in the case in February 2019 after he wrote a letter to an attorney claiming he was not part of the conspiracy in the death of Smith and Staniszewski, according to court documents. He testified Wednesday that he did so because a man had walked up to him on a street in Somerset and called him “a rat.” More:Somerset home consumed by fire and smoke: ‘We definitely will get through this’
