Can We Stem The Mental Health Tide During A Cost-Of-Living Crisis? Independent Education Today
Can We Stem The Mental Health Tide During A Cost-Of-Living Crisis? – Independent Education Today https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/can-we-stem-the-mental-health-tide-during-a-cost-of-living-crisis-independent-education-today/ I read two articles recently that left a feeling of helplessness and bewilderment, but also a sense of opportunity. The first was an article by Dr Alex George that stated there had been “enough referrals to children and young people’s mental health services (CAMHS) for children and young people to fill Wembley Stadium in May 2022 alone”. The second came from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy with similarly grim headlines stating “66% of therapists have reported that the cost-of-living crisis was causing a further decline in the mental health of their clients and 49% reported their clients had already stopped activities such as gym memberships and sports club memberships”. Covid has had a significant impact here, but the cost-of-living crisis is only going to exacerbate these issues and the education sector is going to face the brunt of this with more children arriving in school cold, hungry, and anxious. Already we are seeing a tightening of household budgets on those things that matter most during childhood such as sports clubs, trips and the equipment young people need for a positive school experience. We are seeing a mental health system overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of children being referred for support through increased stress and anxiety disorders and adverse childhood experiences. The basic physical and mental health needs of children are not being met and the situation is only going to get worse. All the things valued by families and children which supports their development, health and education is being eroded. So, now you can see why this might bring up feelings of helplessness…what really can we do to stem this tide? And how did we get to this point as a country where we have children growing up without their basic needs being met so they can be healthy and thrive? However, I do sense an opportunity here. I was reading these articles to better inform the work we do at the Youth Sport Trust to ensure every child has a foundation of positive physical and mental health and it brought me back to the first conundrum, prevention versus cure. Prevention versus cure I believe that schools have an opportunity to help stem the tide of mental health issues by continuing or starting to provide the formal and informal curriculum opportunities that support children’s physical and mental health. We have seen schools implementing programmes such as Active in Mind, a fully funded programme harnessing the strategies of physical activity and lifestyle behaviours to help young people improve mood, reduce anxiety and regulate emotions. This year, schools that have taken the Active in Mind approach have seen: 71% coping better 68% feeling more positive overall 61%more confident 64%more relaxed These students were at risk of mental health disorders and likely to be receiving pastoral support.  Some may have been referred to CAMHS had it not been for their involvement in this type of programme. Boy climbing up wall Harnessing the power of sport The second conundrum is about the place of sport and play and how we harness its power. If it is so important in supporting every child’s right to good health; how do we use this ‘power’ if it isn’t provided, or children haven’t got access to it? If families can’t afford to provide PE kit, pay for sports clubs, or play activities, then those children in our poorest communities will stay inactive and further exacerbate their mental health issues, along with affecting their wider development and education. With growing inequalities around things like mental health we need to give every child access to sport and play, and school is the place to start. We can harness this power to prevent the growing mental health wave from crashing over us all, but the only way we can do this is by reducing the barriers to access and creating opportunities for every child to engage. My final reflection on this topic brings me back to my passion project; Boys Move. When working with some boys on the things that affected their mental health, they were very clear. The things they identified as important to them were, friendships, happiness, family, and having fun. On the other side, they identified feelings of frustration, depression, were worried about bullying and ‘straighteners’, stress, body image and money. However, the one issue that came up repeatedly was ‘anger’. Feelings of anger and not being able to control it, especially when feeling frustrated in school and with experiences in their family. Although the anger and frustration these young people were feeling may be the symptom of any number of issues, the number one issue they spoke about related to poverty. Physical Education and sport have the potential and flexibility to teach young people more than sport-based skills. Done well, they can develop a wide range of pro-social character traits – empathy, integrity, teamwork, collaboration, perseverance. It also provides opportunities to reflect on, identify and control strong emotions. In my opinion, PE is one of the only subjects where pupil voice can truly be heard and directly contributes to the prevention of mental health issues. I do believe there are things schools can do that are within their gift to stem the tide and I do think the desperate situation we find ourselves in with children’s mental health presents an opportunity to think differently about how we tackle the issue of prevention versus cure. Yes, we absolutely need to ensure every child is warm and fed! I also accept schools cannot control this or be accountable for this. But they can be responsible for doing all the things that support good health within the policy and curriculum framework they have, and that starts with every school providing opportunities for every child to move. Let’s not take this away from them, when there are millions of children that need it right now.  Youth Sport Trust’s fully funded programmes Active in Mind, and Boys Move To find out more about the  IET World Mental Health campaign

UGreen PD200W GaN Charger Review Absolute Geeks
UGreen PD200W GaN Charger Review Absolute Geeks
UGreen PD200W GaN Charger Review – Absolute Geeks https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ugreen-pd200w-gan-charger-review-absolute-geeks/ Smartphones these days don’t come with the chargers in the box. This means that most people need to get a new charger. Imagine if you could have a hub that charges all your devices. That’s where the UGREEN PD200W 6-Port GaN USB-C Charger comes in. Ports and Device support The PD200W comes with 4 USB-C ports and 2 USB-A ports. This means you can theoretically charge upto 6 devices at a time.  Each port is labeled as you can see in the picture. C1 to C4 for the USB-C ports and A1 & A2 for the USB-A ports. It’s actually quite simple and is important for choosing the right port for the right device. More on this below. Who has 6 phones lying around? Even for a family of 4 that’s a bit of stretch. The cool thing with the PD200W is that it can charge your MacBook as well as your tablets. The total power output of this GaN charger is 200W. That doesn’t mean each port has that limit. Here is the breakdown of the max output per port: C1/C2: 100W max C3/C4: 65W max A1/A2: 22.5W Max That’s not all, this handy device also supports the following charging standard: PD 3.0/2.0, PPS, QC4+(QC4.0/QC3.0), SCP, FCP, AFC, APPLE 5V2.4A, BC1.2 You can see which ones apply to your devices and celebrate the joy of not having to buy separate adapters per device. You can check out the complete list of supported devices on the product page here:  https://amzn.to/3LHSTsA What’s in the Box The UGREEN PD200W comes with the following: UGREEN PD200W 200W USB C Charger 2m Detachable Power Cord 1m 100W USB C to C Cable x 1 Not only do you get to replace 6 chargers in one go, you also get a USB-C cable in the box. The true genius in the design here is that the power cable is detachable. Which means if you are traveling to a country with a different power socket, you can just get a wire that suits that, no need to carry a multiplug or extension cord. How is the UGREEN PD200W? In terms of design, I have always been a fan of UGREEN’s design. They have taken boring, mundane, devices that are meant to be hidden away and make them look sleek and elegant while also keeping them understated. After all, you don’t want to actually “see” these devices. Brilliant all around. In terms of usability, this one is a no-brainer. The fact that they even thought of using a removable power cable is brilliant industrial design. For me personally this adds a great deal of flexibility. I can easily hide the charger under my desk in the drawer, and route the cables nicely, only 1 cable going to the power outlet, and the rest all run through my drawers. A beautiful solution to wire management. Another advantage is that you can easily disconnect the PD200W and take it on a trip. It also means that if the power cable fails, you don’t need to replace the whole device. Sadly when connecting an Apple Watch, you can’t use the other USB-A port, as this causes the Apple watch to disconnect. It’s a small issue, but hey it’s still 1 charger to charge them all. What is GaN? If you are wondering what GaN is, then this next section is for you. GaN stands for Gallium nitride. It has quickly become the leading material used in chargers from some of the top brands that make fast, long lasting and efficient chargers. One of the main advantages of GaN is that it is far more efficient at generating and transmitting electricity. This produces less heat than traditional chargers, leading to two immediate benefits. First is that components should generally last longer, less heat means less potential damage. Secondly, less heat means parts can be packed closer together, which is why you can get a 6 port 200W charger in this relatively small package. The Ugreen PD200W 200w charger claims to increase power consumption rate of 95% with the GaN II technology, which means less power wastage. Other Specs: The 6 port PD200W weighs 518g, which isn’t light, but given that it saves you from carrying 6 chargers (including your laptop charger) it more than makes up for it. The dimensions are: 10.08cm x 10.08xm with a height of 3.23cm. The exact model of this review is 40913. Summary We can highly recommend the UGreen PD200W GaN 200w 6port USB-C charger. The number of devices it supports along with the smart design choices means it is a no-brainer for someone who has multiple devices and wants a clean setup. If you’re looking to change your chargers, this is one of the best devices for the job. Mad Money’s Jim Cramer Wants Crypto Investors To Bet Against Him — ‘I Have Done This For 42 Years’ – Featured Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/mad-moneys-jim-cramer-wants-crypto-investors-to-bet-against-him-i-have-done-this-for-42-years-featured-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ The host of Mad Money, Jim Cramer, has challenged crypto investors to bet against him. “You do not do this for 42 years and lose money every year,” he said. His statement followed a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for “Inverse Cramer ETF.” Jim Cramer to Crypto Investors: Bet Against Me The host of CNBC’s Mad Money show, Jim Cramer, challenged cryptocurrency investors to bet against him in a tweet Friday. Cramer is a former hedge fund manager who co-founded Thestreet.com, a financial news and literacy website. While discussing the Advanced Micro Devices stock (Nasdaq: AMD), he wrote: “As always I welcome people betting against me. I have done this for 42 years. Those who know me know that you would have been betting against Apple at $5, Google since inception, Meta at $18, Amazon at $10, Nvidia at $25, and AMD at $5. I welcome all comers.” Cramer then followed up with another tweet about crypto. Noting that he bought a farm with his bitcoin profits and a boat with ether gains, the Mad Money host proceeded to challenge crypto investors: “I want you to bet against me. You do not do this for 42 years and lose money every year.” Many people have been attacking Cramer for making recommendations that resulted in losing trades. Last year, he praised Ark Investment Management CEO Cathie Wood just before her flagship fund plummeted. He also tweeted a buy recommendation for AMC Entertainment Holdings just before the stock plunged 30%. The Mad Money host also said in April last year: “We like Coinbase to $475.” At the time of writing, Coinbase Global (Nasdaq: COIN) is trading at $67. ‘Inverse Cramer ETF’ Prospectus Filed With SEC Cramer’s tweets followed a prospectus filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by Tuttle Capital Management for two exchange-traded funds (ETFs) — Inverse Cramer ETF and Long Cramer ETF. The filing explains: The Inverse Cramer ETF (the ‘Fund’) seeks to provide investments results that are approximately the opposite of, before fees and expenses, the results of the investments recommended by television personality Jim Cramer. Tuttle Capital Management also previously launched an ETF betting against Cathie Wood’s stock picks. Cramer became a fan of bitcoin in 2020 after he spoke with crypto investor and entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano, who convinced him to buy some BTC. The Mad Money host then began advising investors to put 5% of their portfolios in bitcoin. However, concerns over the Chinese bitcoin mining crackdown, ransomware attacks, and tether (USDT) made him dump his BTC for ether in June last year. A few months later, he begged crypto investors to take profits. In October, he said he invested in crypto because “there could be millions of greater fools out there.” In June this year, he said bitcoin could fall to $12,000 and in August, he recommended avoiding crypto and other speculative investments altogether. US Immigration: Why Indians Are Fleeing Halfway Around The World – Bbc.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-immigration-why-indians-are-fleeing-halfway-around-the-world-bbc-com/ Image source, Getty Images Image caption, An India family seeking asylum in the US at the Arizona-Mexico border on 20 May By Bernd Debusmann Jr BBC News As an openly gay man living in a deeply conservative part of India’s Punjab, life had long been hard for Jashan Preet Singh. Over the years, Mr Singh, 34, had grown accustomed to daily discrimination in his hometown of Jalandhar – harassment and beatings doled out by his neighbours, and a family that had largely turned its back on him. But what happened late last year was different. “There were 15 or 20 people who tried to kill me,” he told the BBC from Fresno, California. “I ran away from there and saved my life. But they cut various parts of my body.” The attack left him with a mutilated arm and a severed thumb. Mr Singh’s escape set him on a journey that took him through Turkey and France. Eventually, it led him to the US-Mexico border, nearly 8,000 miles (12,800km) away, where he crossed into California to begin a new life in the America. He is not alone – for years, the arrival of Indian migrants in the US has been slow but steady, amounting to dozens or hundreds each month. This year, however, the figures have spiked. Since the beginning of the 2022 fiscal year that started last October, a record 16,290 Indian citizens have been taken into US custody at the Mexican border. The previous high of 8,997 was recorded in 2018. Experts point to a number of reasons for the increase, including a climate of discrimination in India, an end to pandemic-era restrictions, a perception that the current US administration is welcoming to asylum seekers and the ramping-up of previously established smuggling networks. While some migrants are coming to the US for economic reasons, many are fleeing persecution back home, said Deepak Ahluwalia, an immigration lawyer who has represented Indian nationals in Texas and California. The latter group range from Muslims, Christians and “low-caste” Hindus to members of India’s LGBT community who fear violence at the hands of extreme Hindu nationalists, or supporters of secessionist movements and farmers from the Punjab region, which has been shaken by protests since 2020. Conditions for many of these groups have deteriorated in recent years, international observers say. Tough decisions For Mr Singh, the decision to leave his country wasn’t an easy one. He first considered moving to another Indian city, but feared that he would be treated just as badly. “The culture is not open-minded for gay people,” he said. “Being gay over there is a big issue.” India only decriminalised gay sex in 2018 and same-sex marriage remains illegal. His brother soon put him in touch with an India-based “travel agency” – part of a sophisticated and expensive smuggling network that took him first to Turkey – where “life was very tough” – and then to France, where he briefly considered staying but was unable to find work. The entire trip took him just over six months. Image source, Getty Images Image caption, Indian nationals being processed by US immigration officials after crossing the border on 26 September Eventually, his “travel agent” arranged for him to join a small group of Indians headed to the US, where many – Mr Singh included – had family members. “He charged us a lot of money,” Mr Singh said. “[But] from France he got me to Cancun, and from there to Mexico City and north.” A difficult journey Immigrants such as Mr Singh often see the US as “the ultimate gateway” to a better life, said Mr Ahluwalia, the lawyer. The enormous distances involved, however, make the trip to the US extremely challenging. Traditionally, Indian migrants who arrive at the US-Mexican border use “door-to-door” smuggling services, with journeys arranged from India to South America. They are often guided the entire way and travel in small groups with their fellow countrymen who speak the same language, rather than individually or with only family members. These networks often begin with India-based “travel agents” which outsource parts of the journey to partner criminal groups in Latin America. Jessica Bolter, an analyst at the Washington DC-based Migration Policy Institute, said that the number of Indian migrants is also rising as a result of a “ripple effect” that takes place when those who have used these services successfully recommend them to friends or family back in India. “It naturally expands and draws more migrants,” she said. “Of course, that doesn’t happen without migrants wanting to leave originally.” The experiences of Manpreet – a 20-year-old from Punjab who asked that only his first name be used – are typical of those who have taken the southern route in the past. A vocal critic of India’s ruling BJP (Bharatiya Jannata Party), he fled the country after being persecuted for his political beliefs. “From Ecuador I took a bus to Colombia, and from Colombia I took a bus to Panama,” Manpreet recalled in an interview with the BBC from California. “From there, via a boat, I [went to] Nicaragua and Guatemala, and then Mexico and entered the US.” Even guided by seasoned smugglers, the trip to the border is often one that is fraught with dangers, including robberies and extortion at the hands of local gangs or corrupt authorities or extreme weather, injuries and illness. These dangers were highlighted in 2019, when a 6-year-old Indian girl from Punjab was found dead in the scorching desert near the border town of Lukeville, Arizona – a case that made headlines in India. It was later reported that she died in temperatures of over 42 C (108 F) after her mother left her with a group of other Indians to go search for water. Image source, Getty Images Image caption, Indian migrants at a humanitarian camp in Panama in 2019 An uncertain fresh start Once in the US, migrants such as Mr Singh begin a long legal process to apply for asylum. Most often, it begins with what US officials term a “credible fear interview,” in which they must convince authorities they face persecution if returned home. “This first step is the most important,” Mr Ahluwalia explained. “If he [the officer] deems there is no credible fear, your case is never going to move forward. That is very catastrophic.” If an asylum officer believes these fears are credible, would-be asylum seekers are likely to be issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge who will consider their request. The process is lengthy – with wait times of several years now the norm across the US – with no promise of a positive outcome. Mr Singh, for his part, has been in the US since late June. At the moment, he is saving up money to hire a lawyer. While his long-term future in the US is by no means guaranteed, and his journey was long, it was better than the alternative, he said. “I would always fear for my life,” he added. “Since I have been here, I have never felt such a thing.”

Crimea Bridge Collapse, Period Action Day, College Football. News You Missed. – USA TODAY https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/crimea-bridge-collapse-period-action-day-college-football-news-you-missed-usa-today/ Ukrainian leaders celebrate bridge blast; Russia tightens security An explosion rocked and partially collapsed a massive bridge that connects Russia-annexed Crimea with Russia on Saturday, a setback for Moscow’s war effort that was quickly celebrated by officials in Ukraine. Russian authorities said a truck bomb caused an explosion that killed three people and temporarily halted vehicle and train traffic over the longest bridge in Europe — a multi-billion dollar project that opened in 2018 and is a physical sign of Russia’s claim on Crimea. It’s also a key supply artery for Russian troops. President Vladimir Putin signed a decree late Saturday tightening security for the bridge and for energy infrastructure between Crimea and Russia, and put Russia’s federal security service, the FSB, in charge of the effort. Period Action Day calls attention to menstrual equity Saturday marked Period Action Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness to period poverty that persists worldwide and taking action. Advocates say awareness of period poverty is critical as the fight for menstrual equity continues. In the U.S., one in four people who need menstrual products today struggle to afford them, according to advocacy nonprofit Alliance for Period Supplies. And more than 20 states still tax period products, often as “nonessential” items or luxury goods. This year’s Period Action Day partnered with the Women’s March because the two share the same weekend. Experts say there’s hope for a future where period poverty is eradicated – pointing to increased action, proposed policies and more open discussions about menstruation worldwide. The change to the league’s concussion protocol, effective immediately for Sunday’s Week 5 games, is the addition of the term “ataxia” as a no-go symptom. Any player showing signs of ataxia – an abnormality of balance/stability, motor coordination or dysfunctional speech caused by a neurological issue – is prohibited from returning to a game. Tua Tagovailoa debacle shows NFL still has long way to go in handling concussions. | Opinion Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel: Optics not a factor in Tua Tagovailoa concussion situation. Las Vegas stabbing suspect claimed to be chef, then slashed 8 people with a 12-inch knife, police say The suspect in a brutal Las Vegas stabbing spree was ordered to be held without bail until he is arraigned next week on charges related to the attack, a judge ruled Friday. On Thursday, a man claiming to be a chef encountered four performers dressed as showgirls on the Las Vegas Strip. He asked for a picture, then pulled out a knife. Within minutes, eight people would be wounded – two of them fatally. The suspect faces two counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder. After Friday’s hearing, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he would give “serious consideration” to pursuing the death penalty in the case. He said his office would make a decision within 30 to 60 days.  Family: Maris Jordan, a Las Vegas stabbing victim, left ‘ripples of love’ around the world. Mass killings database reveals trends, details and anguish in every US event since 2006. College football week 6: Oklahoma sinks to new low, UCLA riding high The Oklahoma Sooners aren’t just one of the biggest flops of the season in the Bowl Subdivision – they’re a disaster on both sides of the ball heading toward the program’s worst finish this century. Saturday was rock bottom. Texas demolished Oklahoma 49-0 to hand the Sooners a third loss in a row for the first time since 1998. With quarterback Dillon Gabriel out with an injury, five Oklahoma players combined to make 17 pass attempts for just 39 yards with two interceptions. And on the other side of the field, No. 19 UCLA  is for real in Chip Kelly’s fifth season. The latest piece of evidence, joining last week’s impressive win against No. 24 Washington, is a 42-32 victory against No. 11 Utah that vaults the Bruins into prime position to reach the Pac-12 championship game and even factor into the College Football Playoff. More of this week’s winners and losers.  Top 25 rundown: Scores and recaps from college football’s biggest games. ‘Not a risk at all’: Why college football coaches are guaranteed more money than ever. Like this roundup of stories? Sign up for The Short List newsletter here or text messages here! New Rooms Coming To Wilderness Lodge Villas! – Disneytouristblog.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/new-rooms-coming-to-wilderness-lodge-villas-disneytouristblog-com/ Walt Disney World has released a look at the new rooms coming to the original Wilderness Lodge DVC villas and announced details about the room refurbishment project. This post shares concept art, photos of the fixtures and furnishings, the timeline for work, my commentary, and more. Disney originally revealed these room renovations for the Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge way back in December 2019 at the Disney Vacation Club Condominium Association Annual Meeting. During that, DVC indicated that Boulder Ridge was receiving a “full refurbishment” in 2020. Per that schedule, Grand Floridian was set to receive a minor refreshes last year and the Polynesian and Beach Club Villas would each receive soft goods refurbishments in 2022. Obviously, a lot changed only a few months after that meeting. Walt Disney World paused construction projects for months, and was slow to restart them–including at the resorts. While that delay played a role, the bigger cause of delay was prioritization of the Polynesian and Grand Floridian projects, which were deemed more urgent for several reasons. In any case, the overdue and much-needed Boulder Ridge Villas room reimagining was placed on the backburner. Disney Vacation Club leadership emphasized that this project was time slated to occur, and permits were filed over the summer. Finally, work started to happen within the last few weeks. Oddly enough, it hasn’t been officially announced by Walt Disney World nor is there a construction advisory on the official site for the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This isn’t entirely unprecedented. Earlier this year, Disney closed the Garden Wing of the Contemporary for the ‘Incredibles Injection’ room redos, and never announced anything. Regardless, the Boulder Ridge project is currently scattered across a handful of rooms on the fourth floor and fifth floor, with a range of room types represented. It’s unclear whether this these are test or model room reimaginings occurring ahead of the project getting started at full speed. Adding to the oddness, Disney isn’t keeping this overhaul a total secret. Concept art flashed on-screen at the D23 Expo last month and there’s now a two-page spread with more artist renderings and photos in the Fall 2022 issue of Disney Files magazine. This project is a big deal for DVC Members and fans of Wilderness Lodge, so it’s a bit weird that Disney isn’t publicizing it more. We’re here to do exactly that, starting with a look at the concept art and details DVC released in Disney Files… This fall, crews will begin refreshing accommodations at Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (the lodge’s first Disney Vacation Club Resort, which opened in 2000). Updated kitchens (including new, single-height island countertops with stools), bathrooms, living spaces (including behind-the-sofa, fold-away beds) and more will give Deluxe Studios, and 1- and 2-bedroom villas a more vibrant – though still whimsically woodsy – look. Refurbishment work will take place in waves, with the first wave scheduled for completion by this winter, and all accommodations aiming for completion by Spring 2023. Here’s a sneak peek at what else is in store. In 1- and 2-bedroom villas, vibrantly colored patterns along the bottom of living room drapes and vases displayed on built-in shelves flanking new pull-down beds are among the many places in the re-imagined living spaces to spot hidden Mickeys. Goofy practices the perfect cast while Mickey tries to keep up with Pluto in one of the new pull-down bed’s two custom works of art. Among the new details are wilderness travel posters framed in the dining area of 1- and 2-bedroom villas, placing Mickey and friends in wilderness settings with names that make us smile, from “Whispering Canyon” (a nod to a restaurant next door at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge) to “Lake Elias” (with Elias being Walt Disney’s middle name, and his father’s first name). Main bedrooms in 1- and 2-bedroom villas have their own treasure to discover, from such Disney fan-familiar places as Grizzly Peak (of Disney California Adventure fame) included in drapery map patterns to Chip and Dale elegantly silhouetted on a throw pillow. Donald Duck and his nephews hike through the woods on artwork adorning the fold-away bed behind the Deluxe Studio sofa. When opened, the bed reveals artwork of the nephews fast asleep while Uncle Donald makes a misstep at Geyser Point. Mickey and Minnie explore the water-filled wilderness in a mural above the main bedroom’s bathtub and in framed bedroom artwork. On the kid-sized bed tucked beneath the Deluxe Studio TV, there’s more art–a forest on the outside and Chip ‘N Dale mural on the inside. Attached to the hidden kid-size bed is a set of built-in drawers and a pair of neatly tucked stools, adding more storage and seating to Deluxe Studios. Vibrantly colored Deluxe Studio headboards feature both sconce lighting and reading lights. As we’ve previously mentioned, we saw the model room almost two years ago, and it’s substantially similar to this concept art. The layout and poster art was identical, with the biggest differences that I can recall being in some of the furniture and upholstery colors, patterns, and textures. The big thing is that this emulates the approach of the Saratoga Springs and Riviera rooms, which were more recently replicated at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Villas. No surprise there, as Disney Vacation Club leadership previously indicated this would be the new room blueprint going forward. Functionally, we have zero criticism about this decision. If there’s one thing that Imagineering really got right with Disney’s Riviera Resort, it’s the rooms. Those designs make significant strides in space-saving design, while adding innovative features like the pull-down Murphy sleeper that is somehow both a comfortable couch and a comfortable bed. Those new rooms seem like the culmination of a lot of lessons learned by DVC over the last decade–iterating on past successes and disregarding past failures–into something that coalesces perfectly. Disney Vacation Club has even indicated that guest satisfaction scores have increased by 20% among guests who have stayed in new rooms at Saratoga Springs. If anything, this undersells the functional improvement of those rooms–they’re much more than 20% better than their predecessors. (That’s not quite how guest satisfaction scores work, but still.) When it comes to their substance, the new rooms coming to Boulder Ridge will be an unequivocal upgrade over the current rooms. There’s no question whatsoever about that. I’m also cautiously optimistic these new rooms will offer thematic enhancements. The style of the Copper Creek studios was a mixed bag for me, with too much of a mismatched style meant to give it a cottage or cabin feel. It got a bit too contemporary and cutesy, with an inappropriate shabby chic look. These Boulder Ridge rooms look much more cohesive, with Disney art set in the great outdoors and featuring classic characters (I love the nods to the Junior Woodchucks). Although not directly referenced, there’s a lot that evokes the U.S. National Parks (all of the art, including the poster style) and Native American culture (patterns on the carpet, throw pillows, drapes, and vases). All of this gives the room a lot of textural depth and personality, while never being overly busy or chaotic. The rooms still look relatively relaxed and subdued, with calming colors. (About the only exception to this is the multicolor headboard in the Deluxe Studio–they jury is still out on that one.) This is also without taking into consideration the current rooms at Boulder Ridge, which are really showing their age. If you want a better idea of how the current Boulder Ridge rooms look, below is our room tour video: Personally, I don’t mind the current rooms at Boulder Ridge. They’re older, a bit tired, and lacking the usability improvements of their newer counterparts, but they have thematic integrity and are appropriately rustic. There are obvious improvements that could be made, but they’re better than many resorts. I’m almost certainly in the extreme minority with this view, but I’d take the current rooms at Boulder Ridge over those at Copper Creek. The latter are superior from the perspective of functionality, but feature an aesthetic that is trying a bit too hard to be chic and trendy. With that said, I’d hazard a guess that most Walt Disney World guests favor Copper Creek’s rooms by a wide margin. I’m also guessing that the current rooms at Boulder Ridge have become a liability, depressing the resort’s popularity. One thing we’ve discussed recently is how the “secret has gotten out” about Wilderness Lodge. It went from having a fan following and great discounts–but not much mainstream appeal–to one of Walt Disney World’s most hard-to-book hotels and one that often is undiscounted. Part of this is probably the crowd-pleasing new rooms (pictured above) and the addition of Storybook Dining at Artist Point. Another thing I’ve noticed in the last couple of years thanks to sales data from our friends at DVC Resale Market is Boulder Ridge’s comparatively lower prices. It’s the least expensive Disney Vacation Club resort at Walt Disney World on the secondary market, with both Old Key West and Saratoga Springs ahead of it. Not only is Boulder Ridge the lowest-priced DVC resort at Walt Disney World, but its average resale price offers the biggest percentage savings over buying direct, at 40% off. (That’s $81 off per point!) Moreover, the per point difference between Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek is a massive $44. Of course, a big part of the disparity between Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek is that the former expires in 2042 and the lat...

A fullback handoff, and he pitched it to Mostert. You can’t even blame the call, that was all Jets defense. Great pursuit, they were all over it.  Pinned It’s great to see first-round pick Quinnen Williams come up with a big play. Thompson fumbles (First Miami fumble lost all year) and now the Jets are about to extend their lead.  Pinned 7 plays, 56 yards and seven points. The Jets now have a nine-point lead. Michael Carter has two touchdowns, but Breece Hall has been the story. 78 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards on 2 targets.  Pinned OH NO. A missed 54-yard field goal. That feels like a pretty significant moment. Dolphins remain down 2 points, but this defense has been stout.  43 yards, 6 plays. Missed FG from Jets’ 36-yard line.  Pinned We had just three points scored in the third quarter after 28 scored in the second quarter. Wonder how much more scoring we will get. Both offenses not exactly balling out. Penalties are sparking drives now.  Pinned Anytime you go deep on fourth and 1 is very weird. Is Skylar Thompson about to out-duel Zach Wilson? Pinned Dolphins have now gone 10 plays on 47 yards. Drive has felt like an eternity. Nothing really going. Field goal unit coming out.  Pinned Expect Miami to rely on Mostert a ton in this second half.  Pinned Durham Smythe with a one-yard rush touchdown rush on a play the Chiefs ran last week against the Bucs. 19-14 now. It really feels like the Jets have momentum, but this game is far from over.  Pinned Six seconds before halftime. Dolphins going for it on second and goal down 19-7.  Pinned What’s really stood out to me so far apart from Sauce Gardner is Raheem Mostert. He has 74 yards rushing right now!  Pinned SAUCE GARDNER. He should be the favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year no respect to Devin Lloyd. Two HUGE plays today. Kid is a baller.  Pinned Dolphins! 8 plays, 75 yards. Mike McDaniel is having to get creative with some of these play calls with a third-stringer. It worked on that drive. Keep an eye on the running backs here. 12-7 Jets.  Pinned Breece Hall catch-and-run goes for 79 YARDS. Dolphins defense had no interest in tackling him.  Pinned A three-and-out on Thompson’s second drive. A screen went nowhere, and a five-yard completion on third and seven wasn’t enough. Big opportunity for the Jets here.  Pinned Jets put together their best drive of the game. 56 yards on seven plays. Ends on a 34-yard field goal to push the lead to five points. More than half of those yards came from penalties.  Pinned Dolphins go 5 plays, 33 yards before they have to punt. I really do like Skylar Thompson though. I want to see if he’s going to settle in. While it’s early, I think a storyline we are passing over is that the Jets’ offense has been bad. Let’s see if they can pick up more than one first down this drive.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Dang we really have Skylar Thompson vs. Zach Wilson today. Unreal. Thompson was a stud in the preseason. Jets forced to punt after another four-play drive. I’m keeping an eye on this offensive line through the afternoon.  Pinned Pinned Wow the Jets are so juiced today. Safety to start the game and now great field position thanks to Braxton Berrios.  Pinned First offensive play for the Dolphins and they get a safety! Unreal. Intentional grounding is definitely a weird call. Almost looked like a fumble.  I don’t care if the arm is going forward, Bridgewater didn’t have possession of the ball. Pinned Pinned Sauce Gardner shows up! He’s been lockdown this year and it feels like we aren’t talking enough about him. What a big hit on Bridgewater to start the game.  Pinned Pinned See More

Metas New Head Of Seattle-Area Offices On The Road To A Metaverse The Seattle Times
Meta’s New Head Of Seattle-Area Offices On The Road To A Metaverse – The Seattle Times https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/metas-new-head-of-seattle-area-offices-on-the-road-to-a-metaverse-the-seattle-times/ Paresh Rajwat and his team of engineers at Facebook parent company Meta Platforms are working to take people out of the two-dimensional internet and into a metaverse, where users can chat, shop and play chess, sometimes with people half a world away. The road to there, Rajwat said, “passes through Seattle.” With more than 8,000 employees, the Puget Sound is Meta’s biggest hub outside its Menlo Park, California, headquarters. Engineers here are working across Meta’s products, from Facebook marketplace to avatars operating in virtual reality to, of course, the metaverse. Last week, Meta named Rajwat, already vice president of product management, to head of office for the Pacific Northwest. He has spent eight years with the company, working on the monetization of the Facebook app, tapping into the creator economy and overseeing the video team. Before Meta, Rajwat worked at Microsoft, Apple, Yahoo and the advertising company Criteo. Now, he’s focused on maintaining Meta’s workplace culture, connecting the company with the Seattle community, leading Meta’s virtual reality efforts and overseeing new features in the metaverse. Rajwat describes the metaverse as an “embodied internet.” Inside, he said, you might hear a sound coming from your right side and turn to see an avatar of a person who is actually sitting miles away but feels right next to you. “It defies distances,” he said. “It really helps people connect.” Right now, there’s still a “big wall” separating the virtual and physical world and Rajwat expects it will be a long time before the metaverse fully rolls out. When that happens, there will likely be more than one metaverse, meaning Meta is prepared to face competition. But Rajwat hopes users will be able to quickly move between them. In the short term, Meta’s engineering team is working on adding features to the metaverse as it exists today, like a way to make payments inside the virtual world or the ability to message people who aren’t yet connected to the metaverse. “Meta has this thing about connecting the world,” Rajwat said. It’s already focused on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and its Messenger app, he continued. Now, it’s thinking about the future of the social network. “The more we think about it, the more we actually are always coming to the same conclusion. … It’s something like the metaverse,” Rajwat said. Before it became the juggernaut it is today, Meta (then called Facebook) set up shop in Seattle in 2010 with just a handful of engineers. Its office near Pike Place Market became its first engineering hub outside its Silicon Valley headquarters. There, engineers were working on a Skype video-chat feature, a location check-in service and a converter that automatically displayed a version of Facebook that worked well on a mobile device. Since then, Meta expanded to a larger location and then grew outside Seattle’s city limits with offices in Redmond and Bellevue. In 2020, it bought REI’s never-used Bellevue campus for nearly $368 million, adding to its Spring District campus that had already grown to include 850,000 square feet of office space. At that time, the company told The Seattle Times it had about 5,000 employees in the Puget Sound. Now, two years later, it says it has more than 8,000. But that growth is on hold. In September, Meta announced it would freeze hiring, reorganize teams and reduce its head count for the first time in company history. CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees Meta would be smaller in 2023 than it was this year. “I had hoped the economy would have more clearly stabilized by now,” he said on a companywide call. “But from what we’re seeing it doesn’t yet seem like it has, so we want to plan somewhat conservatively.” Meta declined to comment on how the hiring freeze and job cuts would affect its workforce in the Pacific Northwest. Rajwat said in an interview last week that Meta would continue embracing remote work, allowing employees to choose how many days they want to come in the office — and if they wanted to come in at all. “Instead of bringing people to work, now we have to bring work to people,” he said. And, of course, Meta is working on the very tools it hopes will make remote work feel almost like you’re there in person.

Marvel’s Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur Renewed For Season 2 – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/marvels-moon-girl-and-devil-dinosaur-renewed-for-season-2-cbr-comic-book-resources/ Disney has commissioned a second season of Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur before the animated series’ release in February 2023. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has been renewed for a second season before the first has premiered. At New York Comic Con, Disney Branded Television revealed that Season 2 of the upcoming animated series has been commissioned ahead of the show’s premiere on Feb. 10. Disney also shared the theme song for the show, “Moon Girl Magic,” written and produced by executive music producer Raphael Saadiq and performed by Diamond White, who stars as the titular Moon Girl. Based on the recent comic series of the same name, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur follows Lunella Lafayette (White), a 13-year-old super-genius who accidentally brings a cherry-red tyrannosaurus (Fred Tatasciore) into modern New York. Equipped with an arsenal of homemade gadgets and aided by her best friend and manager Casey (Libe Barer), Lunella and her prehistoric pal set out “to make a difference and protect her Lower East Side neighborhood from danger” as Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Also co-starring in the series are Sasheer Zamata and Jermaine Fowler as Lunella’s parents, Alfre Woodard and Gary Anthony Williams as her grandparents and co-creator Laurence Fishburne as the Beyonder, “a curious and mischievous trickster.” Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s Diversity Contribution Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur was officially announced at the D23 Expo in 2019. “As an avid comic book fan, I am thrilled to be involved with Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” Fishburne said at the time. “Disney Channel is the perfect platform to explore this pint-sized female African American superhero and I can’t wait for their audience to enjoy the lighthearted adventures of Lunella and Devil Dinosaur.” Cort Lane, senior vice president of Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment, added, “Lunella doesn’t know she is the smartest person on the planet, but audiences will soon know how very cool Moon Girl is. Her adventures with giant buddy, Devil Dinosaur, are filled with so much wonder and joy, and this historic partnership with Disney Television Animation and Cinema Gypsy Productions proved the right formula to bring them to television.” In addition to Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Marvel is developing another highly anticipated animated project: X-Men ’97, a revival of the popular X-Men: The Animated Series. The new series will pick up where the old one left off, with Charles Xavier departing Earth in search of a cure for his terminal illness and leaving his former students in the care of Magneto. Thus, ’97 will see the Master of Magnetism lead the X-Men against the forces of evil, now led by Mister Sinister. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur premieres Feb. 10 on Disney Channel. OpenSea Hit In Ongoing Crypto Exec Exodus As CFO Resigns – Cryptopolitan https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/opensea-hit-in-ongoing-crypto-exec-exodus-as-cfo-resigns-cryptopolitan/ TL;DR Breakdown OpenSea’s chief financial officer Brain Roberts has resigned. Monthly volume and unique users on the NFT marketplace have fallen over recent months. Crypto executives are increasingly leaving their positions amid the bear market. The past few months in the cryptocurrency industry have been marked with a disturbing number of executive resignations, and OpenSea has just become the latest firm caught in the wave. OpenSea’s CFO resigns The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at OpenSea, Brian Roberts, has stepped down from his position in the NFT marketplace. Roberts joined OpenSea in December 2021, marking ten months of active service in leading and growing the finance team at the largest NFT marketplace.  Well it is time for me to come ashore from the “open seas.” I’m grateful for the opportunity and proud of many accomplishments but none more than the strength of the finance team at OpenSea.” Brian Roberts. Although Roberts ceases to become OpenSea’s CFO, he intends to assume an advisory role at the NFT marketplace. The current Vice President of Finance, Justin Jow, will reportedly take over the wheel as Chief Financial Officer.  “I remain incredibly bullish on web3 and especially OpenSea. The company is heads down building and I assure you, the best is yet to come,” Roberts added. Crypto bear market forces more exec departure Roberts’ departure comes as OpenSea records a significant decrease in market interest and trading volume. According to DappRadar, OpenSea’s monthly volume is currently over 7% to $245 million. Additionally, the number of unique wallet addresses interacting with the protocol has also declined by 4.12% to 258.23k.  Generally, interest in NFTs and cryptocurrencies are currently down owing to the bear market and uncertainties around the global economy. Amidst these events, many cryptocurrency companies have seen their executives resign, including Algorand, Alameda Research, Kraken, Celsius, etc.  In late September, the President of FTX.US Brett Harrison announced his resignation 18 months after joining the exchange. Similar to Roberts, Harrison intends to stay at the exchange as an advisor.  Ibiam Wayas Ibiam is an optimistic crypto journalist. US: BMW Set New Plug-In Car Sales Record In Q3 2022 – InsideEVs https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-bmw-set-new-plug-in-car-sales-record-in-q3-2022-insideevs/ The BMW Group (BMW and MINI) reports a slight year-over-year improvement in car sales in the US. During the third quarter, the company sold 85,209 cars (up 4%), although the year-to-date result is still in the red at 249,835 (down 6%). BMW: 78,031 (up 3%) MINI: 7,178 (up 11%) Total: 85,209 (up 4%) In terms of plug-in electric cars, the company reports record results achieved by the BMW brand, which in Q3 sold 10,858 plug-ins (12.7% of the total volume), including 4,337 battery-electric cars (5.1% of the total volume). This includes 1,727 BMW iX, so we guess that the remaining 2,610 BEVs must be BMW i4 (as the BMW i3 was at 0 and there are no other all-electric BMWs on the market). Unfortunately, BMW counts electric and internal-combustion engine 4-series together in its stats. “Increased availability of the battery electric BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicle and BMW i4 Gran Coupe fueled sales growth in all three months of the third quarter.  As a result, the company also set new quarterly benchmarks for both battery electric (4,337) and plug-in hybrid electric deliveries (10,858 BEV & PHEV combined).” The good news is that soon the lineup will be further strengthened by the all-electric flagship BMW i7, which will arrive at dealerships in the US this quarter. BMW plug-in electric car sales: BMW i3: 0 (down 100%, retired) BMW i4: potentially 2,610 (new) BMW i8: 0 (down 100%, retired) BMW iX: 1,727 (new) Total: 10,858 (4,337 BEVs and 6,521 PHEVs) and 12.7% share * only models for which data are available Besides the i-series models, BMW offers also multiple plug-in hybrids, but sales data for those models is not available. On top of that comes the MINI brand and its plug-in hybrid Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 and all-electric MINI CooperSE, but once again, without any info about its sales results. Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America said: “The customer demand and enthusiasm for BMW’s electric vehicles has been there from the start. With the support of our dealer partners, we expect this momentum to accelerate through the fourth quarter, resulting in a strong finish to the year.” Detailed BMW sales results:

Suspect In Las Vegas Stabbings Solicited Work 2 Days Before – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/suspect-in-las-vegas-stabbings-solicited-work-2-days-before-the-washington-post/ LAS VEGAS — The suspect in a stabbing rampage on the Las Vegas Strip that left two people dead and six injured was in Los Angeles soliciting employment from strangers two days before the attack, according to a California TV station. In a video taken Tuesday by photographer Jorge Lopez for NBCLA sister station Telemundo 52, a man who identified himself as Yoni Barrios approached Lopez outside Los Angeles City Hall and asked for help, saying he had lost his home and everything he had. “He kept telling me, ‘I just want an opportunity, I just want to start from scratch,‘” said Lopez, who was in downtown Los Angeles on assignment at the time. The TV station said Lopez didn’t realize the significance of the video until Barrios’ arrest Thursday in Las Vegas. The rampage began when Barrios allegedly attacked a group of four showgirl performers outside a casino with a 12-inch knife, police said. Barrios had approached the women for a photo on a pedestrian bridge, but one showgirl told police she was uncomfortable with his proposal and backed away. Witnesses said Barrios charged at the woman and stabbed her in the back as she ran from him. The suspect then allegedly stabbed another woman before running down the Strip and looking for groups of people so he could “let the anger out,” police said. Barrios thought the showgirls were laughing at him and making fun of his clothing, according to the arrest report. Police said the suspect was wearing a chef’s long-sleeved white jacket that was covered in blood when he was arrested. Officers have recovered the knife Barrios is believed to have thrown into some bushes as he fled. The county coroner’s office has identified the two killed as Las Vegas residents Brent Allan Hallett, 47, and Maris Mareen DiGiovanni, 30. DiGiovanni was part of the Best Showgirls In Vegas modeling and talent agency, according to Cheryl Lowthorp, who runs the business that provides models and showgirls for various promotional events from restaurant openings to airport greetings. Lowthorp said two others with the agency were among the wounded and a third escaped without injury. Prior to the rampage, Barrios reportedly went to the Wynn casino and asked a janitor about jobs and was also seeking work as a chef. Barrios also told a casino security guard he was trying to sell his knives that he kept in a suitcase to raise enough money to go back home, although police said his citizenship isn’t clear. Barrios, 32, is being held without bail and scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said Barrios will be charged with two counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder. Wolfson said prosecutors should decide in the next 30 to 60 days whether to seek the death penalty in the case. It remained unclear Sunday if Barrios has a lawyer yet who can speak on his behalf.

Sister Wives star Janelle Brown took to Instagram to gush about spending an incredible month traveling with her former sister wife, Christine, and several of their children and grandchildren. The 53-year-old hit Idaho, Montana, Tennessee and even Hawaii on a series of fun, family trips. However, her husband, Kody — whom Christine left in November 2021 — did not appear to tag along with them on any of the outings. As OK! previously reported, the father-of-18 became frustrated after the 50-year-old told her fellow sister wives that she was leaving him. “I’m going to be the head of my household again, and I’m not going to be circumvented in that … if everybody’s willing to conform to patriarchy again,” he argued. “I’ve been fighting to make everybody happy. My bitterness is out of trying to do that and not having the family that I had thought about and designed.” Article continues below advertisement However, Janelle was far from pleased with Kody’s rant, noting in a confessional, “Yeah, I didn’t know I’d signed up for patriarchy, but that’s not what we all agreed on in the very beginning.”

Proposed NAH Health Village To Impact Economy, Add Jobs, Enhance Patient Experience – Flagstaff Business News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/proposed-nah-health-village-to-impact-economy-add-jobs-enhance-patient-experience-flagstaff-business-news/ The new campus will be the region’s first-of-its-kind concept focused on holistic health and wellness. Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) is proposing to build a multi-million-dollar Health and Wellness Village that is expected to shape health care services for Northern Arizona for decades to come and also generate tens of millions of dollars for the local economy. “The Health and Wellness Village will be unlike anything ever built in Arizona,” said Steve Eiss, vice president of real estate and development for Northern Arizona Healthcare. “It will change how people perceive health care delivery while providing a significant economic benefit for Flagstaff.” The new campus will be built near Fort Tuthill, anchored by a state-of-the-art hospital and ambulatory care center. It also will include community amenities that support Flagstaff’s growing population and needs, including new housing and grocery options. In addition, the campus will include a hotel, dining and outdoor options to benefit NAH patients. “NAH is working with other developers to create amenities that promote a healthy lifestyle and to serve our community,” Eiss said. “The revenue NAH earned from these development opportunities will be reinvested in patient care, equipment and other health care technologies and innovations.” Upon full build-out, it is estimated that the Health and Wellness Village will generate an additional $389 million per year in economic benefit for Flagstaff and Northern Arizona above the existing Flagstaff Medical Center. It also is expected to generate $4.5 million in annual tax revenue for local jurisdictions like the Flagstaff Unified School District and Coconino Community College. Pending approvals from the City of Flagstaff, the campus will be built in multiple phases beginning with an ambulatory care center tentatively scheduled to open in 2025 and the new hospital opening in 2027. Eiss said the campus would not only stimulate the economy but also act as a catalyst to draw more medical professionals and their families to Flagstaff as the development will provide more job opportunities. “By investing in a new hospital and ambulatory care center, NAH will be contributing to Northern Arizona’s long-term economic vitality and growth. We will be providing additional jobs while helping retain health care professionals in the region,” Eiss said. NAH officials say the new campus will replace the current Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC), which cannot be retrofitted with the latest technologies and innovations needed for a growing community. FMC will be available for redevelopment after the new hospital opens. Eiss noted that NAH is in discussion with several local organizations about the redevelopment of FMC. This includes regular meetings with city officials, business leaders and community members who have shared interests in downtown Flagstaff’s success. The new campus will be the region’s first-of-its-kind concept focused on holistic health and wellness. It would allow NAH to build a space that can integrate medical, surgical, emergency, ambulatory and other health care services all in one location. It will continue to be the only Level 1 Trauma facility in Arizona north of Phoenix. The new campus will include expanded clinical options such as more comprehensive oncology services, expanded patient therapies and rehabilitation, a wound-healing program with hyperbaric chambers, and outpatient imaging. “NAH isn’t just proposing a development that will offer more clinical options, but we are designing a new hospital that will provide their patients with an even higher degree of care,” Eiss said. According to Eiss, one of the most important features of the new hospital is the layout of patient rooms, which are intended to improve patients’ comfort during their stay. Patients can expect larger, private, suite-styled rooms with a full bathroom. In addition, each room will have in-room couches for patients and visitors and large windows allowing more natural light into each room. These features are designed to help improve patient experience and well-being. Patients and their families also will be able to take advantage of the 22-acre natural retreat with trails that will be integrated into Flagstaff’s existing trail system. “We are excited to bring a campus that will give residents of Northern Arizona high-quality care and amenities dedicated to improving their health for generations to come,” Eiss said. Government burying Head In Sand Over Health Inequality Says Bishop Of London The Guardian
Government burying Head In Sand Over Health Inequality Says Bishop Of London The Guardian
Government ‘burying Head In Sand’ Over Health Inequality, Says Bishop Of London – The Guardian https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/government-burying-head-in-sand-over-health-inequality-says-bishop-of-london-the-guardian/ The most senior female bishop in the country has launched a scathing attack on the government, accusing it of “burying its head in the sand” over “shocking” and “rampant” health inequalities. Dame Sarah Mullally, the bishop of London, spoke out after the Guardian reported that Thérèse Coffey was dropping the government’s long-promised white paper on health disparities. The document was supposed to appear months ago and form part of the government’s pledge to level up the UK. It was due to set out “bold action” to narrow the widening inequalities in health outcomes that exist between the poorest and the wealthiest, between white and black, Asian and minority ethnic people, and between those in the north and south. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has denied that Coffey, the health secretary, has decided not to publish the white paper. Mullally, the first woman to hold the position of bishop of London and the third-highest-ranked bishop in the country, said immediate action was required to tackle “increasingly visible” health inequalities. “In the quest for health outcome improvement, we can leave no man, woman or child behind,” she said. “That is why recent reports of the shelving of the government’s health disparities white paper are tough to swallow.” Mullally, who this week will publish a report she commissioned on health inequalities in the capital, added: “It’s my sincere hope that the government joins us in looking for solutions, rather than burying its head in the sand.” Her intervention follows a series of stories by the Guardian over the last 12 months exposing the true scale of health inequalities across the UK. In April, the Guardian revealed women in the poorest areas of England were dying earlier than the average female in almost every comparable country in the world. Millions of women living in the most deprived areas can expect to live for 78.7 years, almost eight years fewer than those living in England’s wealthiest areas. It is worse than the average life expectancy for women in every single one of the world’s OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries, except Mexico. The stark analysis also revealed that the average life expectancy for all women across England and the UK is lower than the global OECD average. The UK ranks 25th out of the 38 OECD countries when it comes to the number of years a woman can on average expect to live. A DHSC spokesperson said at the time: “We are committed to levelling up health across the country and our health disparities white paper, due later this year, will set out action to reduce the gap in health outcomes between different places, so that people’s backgrounds do not dictate their prospects for a healthy life.” The white paper never appeared. Mullally, who in her previous career was England’s chief nursing officer, said: “It is truly shocking that women in England’s poorest areas are dying nearly a decade before their wealthier counterparts. No one should have to accept living shorter or unhealthier lives just because of where they live. These inequalities need to be addressed, and it is concerning how far inequalities have fallen down the government’s agenda. “The reality of health inequalities across our nation is undisputed. In recognition of this inequality, the Johnson government announced its intention to release a white paper investigating such inequalities. I certainly hope this vital work will be continued.” The Health Inequalities Action Group (HIAG), a multi-faith initiative led by Mullally, is expected to make 14 recommendations to tackle health inequalities when it publishes its report this week. Separately, more than 155 members of the Inequalities in Health Alliance (IHA), convened by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), have signed a joint letter to Coffey urging her to publish the health disparities white paper. In February, Sajid Javid, the then health secretary, told MPs that he would publish “in spring 2022” a white paper on “health disparities”. The document never appeared and was a notable omission in Coffey’s new 14-page Our Plan for Patients plan. Dr Sarah Clarke, the president of the RCP, said: “If we’re ever to reduce pressure on the NHS and lessen the demand for services, we need to tackle the root causes of ill health. This requires a specific cross-government strategy to reduce health inequalities – one that looks at every policy lever across government to tackle the factors that make people ill in the first place.” A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “It is inaccurate to say that the health disparities white paper has been scrapped. No decisions have been taken and we will update on next steps in due course. “We are committed to improving the health of the nation so that everyone can live longer, healthier lives, and we have put women’s health at the top of the agenda by publishing a women’s health strategy and appointing the first-ever women’s health ambassador for England. “Our Office for Health Improvement and Disparities is working to reduce unacceptable health disparities, focusing on the places and communities where ill health is most prevalent and life expectancy lower.”

Cantu was holographically teleported into the Coach’s office, and the coach could coach him remotely. Cantu and his coach Mr. Schneider used Aexa’s novel technology, “Holoconnect,” which allows users to project as a three-dimensional hologram into a remote location. Aexa’s technology was used for the first time in October 2021, when NASA flight surgeon Dr. Josef Schmid, industry partner AEXA Aerospace CEO Fernando De La Pena Llaca and their teams were the first humans “holographically teleported” from Earth into space. Aexa plans to release this technology during the last quarter of 2022 as a low-cost universal solution. Aexa will launch the technology under Aexa Tech, and the Holoconnect will be available for any Mixed Reality, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Smart glasses, Smartphones, and Tablets. The goal is to provide holographically teleportation technology to any consumer by allowing them to use devices they currently have. That way, the technology will be available to help to provide coaching to sports players in any remote area. This technology will also be used for engineering, education, and medical purposes. Indias Central Bank Plans To Launch Digital Rupee CBDC Cryptonews
India’s Central Bank Plans To Launch Digital Rupee CBDC – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/indias-central-bank-plans-to-launch-digital-rupee-cbdc-cryptonews/ Source: AdobeStock / mrinal The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon launch pilot tests for its upcoming digital rupee in a bid to increase awareness around its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The country’s central bank announced the news on Friday, detailing that the digital rupee will be available for specific use cases during the pilot. In a statement, the RBI said the pilot program will help create awareness around the planned features of the digital rupee. “It explains the objectives, choices, benefits, and risks of issuing a CBDC in India. The note also seeks to explain the Reserve Bank’s approach towards the introduction of the CBDC,” the central bank reportedly said. The RBI has also released a concept note for the digital rupee, which talks about key aspects of the CBDC, including its technology and design, potential use cases of the digital rupee, issuance mechanisms, and more. In addition, it explores how the introduction of a CBDC would impact the banking system, monetary policy, financial stability, and privacy issues. “As the extent and scope of such pilot launches expand, RBI will continue to communicate about the specific features and benefits of e₹, from time to time,” the RBI said. The country’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had previously announced the launch of the digital rupee in her 2022-23 budget speech earlier this year. The announcement marked another clear indication that the Indian government is determined to launch a CBDC. Addressing the Indian parliament, Sitharaman was quoted saying that the digital rupee will “lead to a more efficient and cheaper currency management system. It is therefore proposed to introduce the digital rupee using blockchain and other technology to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India.” The RBI’s Harsh Stance Against Cryptocurrencies Despite its push for a CBDC, the RBI has long maintained a harsh stance toward digital assets, arguing that the nascent asset class has no underlying value. The central bank has constantly warned investors and the government against crypto, citing volatility as well as risks of fraud and scams.  Earlier this year in July, the central bank asked the Indian Government to ban cryptocurrencies in the country, citing the “destabilizing” effect of this asset class on monetary stability. “The RBI is of the view that cryptocurrencies should be prohibited,” Sitharaman said in Parliament on July 18. At the time, Sitharaman clarified that the RBI does not view cryptocurrencies as currencies, saying that every modern currency needs to be issued by the government or central bank. She claimed the value of cryptocurrencies rests solely on the speculations and expectations of high returns, which is why they have de-stabilising effects.

Taylor Knibb Earns First WTCS Medal Of The Year For The U.S. In Cagliari – TeamUSA.org https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/taylor-knibb-earns-first-wtcs-medal-of-the-year-for-the-u-s-in-cagliari-teamusa-org/ CAGLIARI, Italy – U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team member Taylor Knibb (Washington, D.C.) earned the first World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) podium of the year for the United States on Saturday, Oct. 8, placing third at the 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Cagliari.  The bronze is Knibb’s fifth career WTCS medal, and comes in the first WTCS event she’s raced since this May’s 2022 season opener in Yokohama. She crossed the finish line of Cagliari’s Olympic-distance course (1500-meter swim, 38-kilometer bike, 10k run) in a time of 1 hour, 47 minutes and 58 seconds. Knibb led a strong showing for the U.S. women, as three women placed in the top 10 with Taylor Spivey (Redondo Beach, Calif.) placing fourth and Kirsten Kasper (Andover, Mass.) taking sixth.  “Any chance you get onto a WTCS podium it’s a pretty good day, you can’t complain. These don’t come very frequently. I’m just grateful to be back on the start line and be able to race well,” Knibb said. “The run surprised me and it was an honor to run with those two [Georgia Taylor-Brown (Great Britain) and Emma Lombardi (France)].” Knibb started the race down, after exiting the water with a 33-second deficit from the front. While a large group got going on the bike, Knibb pushed it with a small pack to catch up and join the leaders. She then took control at the front and worked to take a large group of 26 and narrow it down to only 11.   The 11-strong also included U.S. compatriots Spivey and Kasper. Once onto the run, Knibb along with Taylor-Brown and Lombardi quickly separated from the group. The three kept tight for two laps until Taylor-Brown edged away to ultimately claim victory. She crossed in a time of 1:47:42, with Lombardi followed in second place at 1:47:54. Knibb followed suit just four seconds later.  Knibb said of her come-from-behind performance, “You could see it in the swim! I think within the first 100 meters I was in last place. And then I thought, ‘OK I can still get into it, just move up, move up, move up.’ And that was the game the whole day. It was nicer to be at the front, because then I could dictate where and what lines I could take into the corners, I was hoping that when I came up to the big group that it was a little bit of a surprise and then I could just go. But we had 11 people, a lot more than I wanted, but it is what it is and the cards just dealt what it was on the day and you make the most of it.”  Spivey, currently ranked fifth in the WTCS standings, turned in her third fourth-place finish of the season with a time of 1:48:32. Kasper finished close behind in sixth, in 1:48:46. Spivey, Knibb and Kasper are all ranked in the top 10 of the WTCS standings with one stop left in the Series, Bermuda on Nov. 5, before the WTCS Finals in Abu Dhabi over Thanksgiving weekend. Erika Ackerlund (Helena, Mont.) crossed the line in 1:51:20 to finish 20th overall, and Summer Rappaport closed out the U.S. women’s finishers placing 27th (1:53:18). In the men’s race, Kevin McDowell (Geneva, Ill.) earned the top result for the U.S., finishing 10th with a time of 1:40:54. Seth Rider (Germantown, Tenn.) took 19th with a time of 1:41:28 and Chase McQueen (Columbus, Ind.) crossed in 22nd, clocking a time of 1:41:53.  2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Cagliari  1500m swim, 38k bike, 10k run  Elite Women Podium – Complete Results 1. Pro-Life Students Allege Discrimination In Lawsuit Against Las Vegas High School – Fox News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/pro-life-students-allege-discrimination-in-lawsuit-against-las-vegas-high-school-fox-news/ A group of pro-life students is suing their Las Vegas high school and the surrounding school district, alleging discrimination against their campus club. One of the plaintiffs, recent ECTA graduate Felipe Avila, who founded the Students for Life chapter at East Career and Technical Academy (ECTA) in 2019, told local news he sensed “animosity” from administrators who “did not like” his group’s message. “We witnessed a lot of animosity from the administrators who I would argue did not like the pro-life message, and so they tried to suppress it as much as possible,” Avila said. Avila accused the school of trying to suppress their materials and, in effect, violating their First Amendment rights. MEDICAL STUDENTS WALK OUT OVER PRO-LIFE SPEAKER Pro-life demonstrators (R) confront pro-choice counterparts (L) 23 January 2006, in Washington, D.C. as tens of thousands of pro-life and pro-choice opponents rally marking the 33rd anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling on abortion. AFP PHOTO/Karen BLEIER  (KAREN BLEIER/AFP via Getty Images) “One of the biggest aspects that we’ve had to encounter was we’ve received a lot of flyer denials, and a lot of it sometimes came from the fact that it was either deemed too controversial because it said pro-life messages, or they just flat out refused to give us a yes or no answer,” he alleged. Avila, former vice president Janelle Rivera, and the Students for Life Club filed a federal lawsuit against the district, the superintendent, the school, and several current and former administrators – seeking a jury trial, and compensatory and punitive damages. The plaintiffs allege that the defendants “made no effort to disguise its antipathy toward SFLC’s pro-life message.” The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the students by the attorneys of the Thomas More Society, a legal conservative group. Pro-life activists react to the landmark Supreme Court decision overruling Roe vs. Wade. (Fox News Digital) REPUBLICANS PUSH DOJ TO PROTECT PRO-LIFE CENTERS FROM ‘ASSAULT’ BY VIOLENT ACTIVISTS The complaint specifically accuses ECTA of denying the pro-life group flyers of pictures regarding health code and other issues with Planned Parenthood in the school newspaper. The principal denied the material, despite other groups being allowed to include pictures in their flyers, the lawsuit read. The document continues that, during the 2019-2020 school year, ECTA’s assistant principal “refused” to allow SFLC to post flyers on the basis that they “promoted” outside organizations due to the flyers including information regarding the services provided by a pregnancy resource center. They also addressed adoption as an option for unexpected pregnancies, providing the name and number of an adoption agency. The assistant principal denied the group’s flyers, despite permitting other clubs and student organizations to reference outside organizations in their promotional materials. Franklin) The lawsuit also alleges that Avila was subject to cyberbullying because of his pro-life views during the 2021-2022 school year, but the defendants “refused to act.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP “In many schools, the suppression of free speech can be seen in endless delays and a slow walk to nowhere,” a Students for Life of America spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “For that Las Vegas school, there seemed to be as many excuses as cards in a deck. But if you can’t use your free speech rights, you don’t really have free speech rights – which is why we have filed this complaint.” Both East Career and Technical Academy and the Clark County School District told Fox News Digital they do not comment on pending litigation. The lawsuit added that CCSD has a “prior history of violating the statutory and constitutional rights of students with a pro-life viewpoint,” noting a related incident in 2015 when the district allegedly refused to approve a student’s application to start a pro-life club at another district’s secondary school, West Career Technical Academy.  The student, Angelique Clark, was allowed to start a “non-curriculum related, non-school sponsored, student-initiated, student-led” chapter of the Students for Life club after a settlement reached by the parties.  CCSD agreed to approve the pro-life club, to treat the pro-life club the same as other non-curriculum clubs, and to pay fees to the plaintiff’s attorneys, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.  Cortney O’Brien is an Editor at Fox News. 12 Tips For Surviving A Luxury Cruise With Kids The Points Guy
12 Tips For Surviving A Luxury Cruise With Kids The Points Guy
12 Tips For Surviving A Luxury Cruise With Kids – The Points Guy https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/12-tips-for-surviving-a-luxury-cruise-with-kids-the-points-guy/ Take the kids on a luxury cruise — how dare you? Luxury cruises are the domain of well-heeled, mature couples looking for fine dining, personal service, elegant suites and onboard spaces free of loud, energetic children. Or so say luxury cruise fans on online forums whenever someone floats the idea of treating their family to an upscale cruise. Ignore them. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your preferred luxury standards just because you’re cruising as a foursome (or more) rather than a twosome. And unless your cruise line expressly prohibits children under a certain age, there’s no reason why you can’t bring the younger members of your family along. The key to luxury cruising with kids is to know what to expect from the ship and what to expect from your kids, and then plan accordingly. If you’re ready to ditch Disney’s jungle cruise ride for a week or more in favor of an upscale cruise ship, follow these 12 tips for a successful luxury sailing with your junior cruisers. For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG’s cruise newsletter. Sign up for our daily newsletter Take a hard look at your kids Is your child well behaved and polite, or do they throw massive tantrums routinely at dinner? Does your teen prefer to make friends on vacation or hang out with her family? Does your middle-schooler get easily bored without nonstop activities or can he find his own fun anywhere? The answers to these questions will help you decide if an adult-focused, luxury cruise vacation is right for your family. If your child can’t handle long dinners, a ship without water slides and rock-climbing walls, and minimal to no other kids on board, now might not be the right time to splurge on that dream luxury cruise. You can always wait a few years and try again. Then again, if your budding foodies love to try new cuisines, earned airline elite status as a toddler and are on first-name basis with the staff at the Ritz, they will fit in just fine. Choose ships with kids programming Paul Gauguin’s onboard naturalists run its Moana Explorer Program for children. PAUL GAUGUIN CRUISES Some upscale cruise lines outright ban children (Viking) or have an age minimum (Windstar), but others welcome kids and offer special activities during sailings with larger-than-usual numbers of children. Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers its Club Mariner program for kids ages 5 to 17, with daily programming led by youth counselors. Paul Gauguin Cruises runs the Moana Explorer Program to introduce kids to the natural wonders of the South Pacific on summer and holiday sailings. Other lines, such as Seabourn, might not have an official kids program but will put on activities when families are sailing in abundance. Be sure to ask your travel agent what to expect if you’re cruising with younger kids who could benefit from age-appropriate games and crafts. Plan for family time On a big ship, your kids could spend the entire day in the kids club or running around with a pack of teens to the sports court and water slides, leaving the adults to enjoy the spa or solarium in peace. On a luxury cruise ship, with fewer options for children, you should count on lots of family together time instead. This is a good thing. Save your massage for a weekend at home and date night for your regular sitter. You don’t have many chances to spend whole days with your kids without work emails and chores getting in the way. Embrace this opportunity to go to shows together, laugh as your kid tries foie gras for the first time, or sip tea, nibble scones and just talk to each other. The together time is a greater luxury than you might have imagined. Choose the right itinerary ROBERTO MOJOLA/SYSAWORLD/GETTY IMAGES If you’re concerned that long days at sea on a luxury cruise ship won’t go over well with your kids, look for an itinerary that’s in port nearly every day. You can plan family fun off the ship, and then come back on board for gourmet dinners and an evening show or in-cabin movie before hitting the sack. Everyone wins. Also, make sure you pick a destination that’s age appropriate. Little kids might prefer a tropical cruise with plenty of beach time versus strolling the cobblestoned streets of quaint towns in France and Italy. Active tweens and teens might relish zip-lining, hiking and kayaking in Alaska, while bookish kids might itch to see historic sites in Greece and Turkey. Let your kids select their onboard activities Other luxury cruisers will tell you that there are no activities for kids on fancy cruise ships, but I’ve watched plenty of kids on high-end sailings and can tell you that’s not true. Kids like all kinds of activities, not just the ones planned for them. On one Seabourn cruise, I was on a daily trivia team with a family that included a 10-year-old girl. She was enthusiastic about the daily game and contributed several answers. Another boy and his grandmother always showed up to afternoon tea and he seemed happy as a clam. I’ve seen kids on Regent Seven Seas enjoying the pool, not to mention the ice cream. My own kids have surprised me with their interest in the captain’s Q&A or games of shuffleboard, so don’t assume that just because there isn’t specific kids programming that your kids will be bored. Make use of room service Luxury cruises are known for spacious cabins and complimentary in-room meal service. Make use of these perks by ordering meals to your cabin when the kids are tired or can’t sit through a leisurely dinner. They can eat chicken fingers while watching cartoons, and you don’t have to miss out on the evening’s culinary selections. You can even ask for dinner to be served course by course from the main restaurant. Or order coffee for you and cereal for them to arrive in the morning while everyone’s getting ready, and then meander up to the buffet for a hot breakfast without anyone having a hangry meltdown. Bring snacks — or find them on board No matter where you travel, I’m adamant you should always bring snacks for kids. Whether you need a mid-excursion pick-me-up or an alternative to a fancy lunch, be sure to have pre-packaged bars, applesauce pouches or bags of goldfish crackers or pretzels at the ready to prevent meltdowns. Cruise ships don’t always have kid snacks available. Even if you don’t bring your own food, remember you’re on a luxury cruise. Ask your butler to bring a selection of kid-friendly foods (cheese and crackers, grapes, popcorn, cookies) at 3 p.m. each day instead of smoked salmon finger sandwiches or bacon-wrapped dates — though you might also learn your kids have a secret appetite for blinis with caviar. If you can’t order it midday, save cereal and yogurt from breakfast to keep in your suite’s minifridge. And find the onboard cafe with all-day snacks where you can swing by for a quick bite anytime the munchies strike. Related: The ultimate guide to cruise ship food and dining Pack entertainment Luxury cruises will have some planned daytime entertainment, but not as much as on the humongous cruise ships. Trivia, cooking demonstrations and guest lectures are all popular pastimes, but many luxury cruisers prefer a relaxing day of playing cards in a lounge or reading by the pool. If your family needs more excitement, you’ll have to bring the fun. Pack those handheld video game players, tablets loaded with movies and games, a deck of cards, and maybe even some travel-sized board games. For little kids, you might want to bring a coloring pad and crayons, sticker books, dolls or toy cars — whatever keeps your lot happy on a slow day at sea. Engage with the crew REGENCY SEVEN SEAS CRUISES If some of your shipmates are standoffish, I can bet you the crew won’t be. Many have families they’ve left behind at home, and they don’t have the chance to interact with little kids so often on the high-end ships. They will be eager to dote on your junior cruisers, bringing them special treats or making them origami animals out of daily programs. Engage with the crew members and they will help you keep the kids happy and the stress off your shoulders. Don’t count on babysitting Most luxury cruise lines do not offer in-room babysitting — and if they do, it’s only if there is a willing female crew member available at the time you need. It’s a courtesy, not a guaranteed service. Don’t take a luxury cruise assuming someone will be able to stay in the room with your sleeping children while you enjoy the onboard nightlife. If you’re really intent on having adult alone time on the ship, you’ll want to bring your own nanny or babysitter for your children. That might mean booking your kids and the sitter in a room adjoining yours, or sharing a suite with your family and booking the nanny into a lower-category cabin. It will likely mean booking a second cabin, which is not cheap on a high-end line, but the expense might be worth it if everyone enjoys the trip more with an extra set of eyes and hands. Related: 5 secrets to getting a luxury cruise for less Ignore the sideye Unfortunately, while many cruisers will be thrilled to see kids on board, some of your shipmates will give you the look or mutter comments about your choice to sail with children — especially in a moment when your kids aren’t being 100% perfect angels. Don’t let them yuck your yum. You have as much right as they have to bring your family on a luxurious cruise ship. Trust me, I’ve seen plenty of adults whine and tantrum or otherwise behave in a less-than-becoming manner on upscale cruise ships. Your kids are acting their age — those folks knew better. Still, most of the kids I’ve noticed on luxury cruises were having a great time and not causing any trouble. Take the high road, nod and smile at the naysayers, and go on enjoying your fine family getaway. Consider a suite on a...
