Viral Clip Claims You Can Make $10k-A-Week Stripping In Metaverse – Here’s The Truth – Indy100 https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/viral-clip-claims-you-can-make-10k-a-week-stripping-in-metaverse-heres-the-truth-indy100/ Promoters of NFTs on TikTok are allegedly telling young men that they can make over $10,000 a week pretending to be female strippers in the metaverse. However, it appears to just be an eye-catching way to promote their NFTs. In several posts on the platform from a promoter group, people were shown footage of luxurious sports cars and wads of cash, supposedly made through pole dancing in virtual reality. One video, in particular, highlighted this and has accrued more than 5.9 million views at the time of writing. “This is your sign to fake being a girl and start stripping in the metaverse,” the video’s caption reads. “It’s giving black mirror (but fr where do I sign up),” one person commented. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The group told those that were a little skeptical of this claim that the virtual stripping gig was legitimate. However, the group suggested that the only way to learn how to do it is to join their Discord server. Like their TikTok, their Discord server is overflowing with users inquiring about the money-making events. One person has even claimed to have spent several hundred dollars for a new computer and a virtual reality headset to begin his career as an online stripper. Still, moderators on the forum have directed users to go elsewhere for advice: this time to a Discord channel that gives an introduction to NFTs. And after the introduction, people were told about the quality of the Discord server’s own NFT project. Now realising that it’s a dupe, people were flooding the Discord server and the TikTok page with complaints and warnings to others not to believe the group. One person wrote: “NOT REAL GUYS DONT FALL FOR IT.” “The cap is so real, lmao,” another added. A third wrote: “How y’all falling for this.” Some moderators eventually did admit that the TikTok video was just a publicity stunt. They also rejected claims that users were being scammed. “Making money on the metaverse is real, but the stripping TikTok is satire,” a moderator said. Indy100 reached out to the NFT group via TikTok comment about the promotional material. In a turn of events, the footage posted to TikTok was not from the metaverse but from a video game called VRChat. Despite virtual strip clubs where dancers can receive tips have been created in virtual reality, a known VR stripper told Mashable in an interview last year that they didn’t earn a liveable wage. The NFT promoter group isn’t the only one to push the faux career path. The tactic of promising TikTok users thousands of dollars to virtually strip is being promoted by many accounts across the platform, with many focused on entrepreneurship. 10 Best Dinnerware Sets 2022 — Cute Dinnerware Plates Sets – Cosmopolitan https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/10-best-dinnerware-sets-2022-cute-dinnerware-plates-sets-cosmopolitan/ RossHelenGetty Images Adulthood is filled with so many surprises. One morning, you wake up and realize hangovers are now a multi-day affair. As for staying out past a certain time, well, that’s just not happening anymore because getting a full night’s sleep is a must (especially when you have a cozy comforter set waiting for you at home). And, perhaps most surprising of all, you suddenly care a lot about kitchen accessories. Maybe it’s because adulthood comes with more dinner parties and hosting duties, but it’s not uncommon to find yourself paying closer attention to cool gadgets and classy utensils. The right kitchen tools, after all, make you feel more ~put together~. That’s precisely why having a good dinnerware set is so essential for elevating your kitchen style. Now, if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably held on to your mismatched bowls and plates for at least the better part of a decade. They’ve likely been sourced from a range of places, including home retailers, flea markets, your parent’s collection, and everywhere in between. The randomness is kinda charming when you think about it, really. And guess what? You can totally still hold onto those pieces and use them for everyday eating. A proper dinnerware set, though, is worth investing in for special occasions, like hosting Friendsgiving or your BFF’s baby shower. Here are a few factors to keep in mind when shopping for your perfect set. Determine your aesthetic Take the color and overall design style of your kitchen and dining areas into account when selecting which colors, patterns, and overall style of dinnerware is best for you. Neutrals or bright colors? Solid colors or fun patterns? Number of settings and pieces Before selecting a dinnerware set, you’re going to need to decide how many pieces you’ll need. Are you planning on hosting large parties? If so, you’ll want to make sure to get a set that includes at least six settings. If you want something for everyday use, you can go with one that has enough settings for each person in your household (or a classic set of four is always a good go-to). Do you want multiple plate and bowl sizes? Think about what food you’ll be serving the most. Durability If you want a set that’s ~fancier~, you’ll probably want to consider porcelain or ceramic. But if you’d prefer pieces that you don’t have to be as delicate with, opt for a material that’s more lightweight and less breakable. How we chose the best dinnerware sets Here at Cosmopolitan, we have a team of shopping experts constantly searching for the best deals on any and everything. To bring you the absolute best, we read through countless reviews, compared various price points, and researched the latest and greatest in dinnerware sets. The Taliban Crushed Afghanistans Crypto Market Study Says HT Tech
The Taliban Crushed Afghanistan’s Crypto Market, Study Says – HT Tech https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-taliban-crushed-afghanistans-crypto-market-study-says-ht-tech/ A crackdown by the Taliban has led to a collapse in cryptocurrency use in Afghanistan. A crackdown by the Taliban has led to a collapse in cryptocurrency use in Afghanistan following a surge last year when the nation was cut off from global banking and international aid, according to a study. The value of crypto received in the country has fallen to an average of less than $80,000 a month since November, down from a peak of more than $150 million in September last year just after the Taliban swept back to power, according to a report by blockchain research firm Chainalysis. “The Taliban’s crackdown has had a massive chilling effect on the country’s crypto markets,” according to the report, which added that “crypto dealers are left with three options: flee the country, cease operations, or risk arrest.” Afghans turned to virtual coins as a lifeline to receive foreign remittances and donations, as well as to shield savings from the Taliban, who were shunned internationally after taking charge in the wake of a chaotic US withdrawal. In August, the regime imposed a nationwide ban on crypto, calling it “haram” — or sinful business. The Taliban arrested 13 crypto dealers who defied orders to stop trading digital tokens. They were later released on bail pending trial. Chainalysis said Afghanistan has dropped to the bottom of its crypto adoption index after placing 20th last year. The Middle East and North Africa crypto market overall is relatively small but among the fastest growing, according to the researcher: Users there received $566 billion in crypto from July 2021 to June 2022, up 48% from a year earlier.

U.S. Fentanyl Bust In Lego Box Points To Mexican Cartels, DEA Says – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-fentanyl-bust-in-lego-box-points-to-mexican-cartels-dea-says-reuters/ Fentanyl pills found by officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration are seen in this handout picture, in New York, U.S., October 4, 2022. Drug Enforcement Administration/Handout via REUTERS Oct 5 (Reuters) – U.S. authorities seized 15,000 rainbow-colored fentanyl pills hidden in a Lego toy box destined for distribution in New York City, the city’s largest such seizure to date according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 times stronger than heroin, is among the leading drivers of a nationwide overdose epidemic that has claimed more than 100,000 lives in the United States in the past year. The DEA on Tuesday said the New York seizure points to wider distribution of the colorful pills, believed to be primarily supplied by Mexico’s two most powerful criminal gangs, the Sinaloa cartel and Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The cartels mass-produce fentanyl pills in rainbow colors to brand them and mimic candy and prescription medication, the agency said. “Using happy colors to make a deadly drug seem fun and harmless is a new low, even for the Mexican cartels,” New York narcotics city prosecutor Bridget Brennan said in a statement, noting fentanyl accounts for over 80% of deadly overdoses in the city. “These staggering statistics underscore the importance of reminding the public that just one pill can kill,” said DEA agent Frank Tarentino. The United States has recently flagged a spike in fentanyl seizures at its border with Mexico. In July, it reported its largest-ever seizure of nearly 1,200 pounds (540 kilograms) of the drug in Sinaloa state. Just two milligrams is considered a fatal dose. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, deaths linked to fentanyl and similar synthetic opioids surged by more than 20% last year to exceed 70,000, more than twice the figure attributed to meth overdoses. The DEA said around two in five pills analyzed contained a lethal dose. In a recent 15-week operation, the DEA said it had seized the equivalent of half a million lethal doses in New York. Settlement Reached In Fatal Police Shooting Of Vancouver Man – KOIN.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/settlement-reached-in-fatal-police-shooting-of-vancouver-man-koin-com/ VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — The City Council in Vancouver, Washington, has approved a $725,000 settlement in the police shooting of a man who was experiencing a mental health crisis in April 2020. William Abbe, 50, was shot and killed by three Vancouver police officers. The shooting was deemed lawful and justified by the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the Columbian reported. Abbe’s daughter filed a federal lawsuit in 2021 alleging wrongful death, negligence, assault and battery, and excessive force against the city of Vancouver and the officers. According to the lawsuit filed by Kara Brandon, Abbe had an altercation with another man in the street and police were called. The officers were talking with Abbe when he started walking toward a sergeant, who responded by leveling his handgun toward Abbe’s chest. Abbe stopped and was standing still when the sergeant fired a shot to his chest, the lawsuit said. Abbe turned and fell to the ground, the sergeant shot him in the back, the lawsuit said. As he was on the ground, another officer fired two shots, the lawsuit said. The officers fired five rounds. This man was shot by 3 Vancouver officers after an incident escalated at 4th Plain and Stapleton, April 28, 2020 (Courtesy to KOIN) Lawyers for the officers said a witness said Abbe continued to yell at the officers, threw rocks at them and held two metal pipes when the shooting occurred. The federal judge ordered the case dismissed on Tuesday after the two sides agreed to settle.

WHO Probing Indian Cough Syrup After 66 Children Die In The Gambia Monitor
WHO Probing Indian Cough Syrup After 66 Children Die In The Gambia – Monitor https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/who-probing-indian-cough-syrup-after-66-children-die-in-the-gambia-monitor/ The World Health Organization (WHO) issued an alert Wednesday over four cough and cold syrups made by Maiden Pharmaceuticals in India, warning they could be linked to the deaths of 66 children in The Gambia. The UN health agency also cautioned that the contaminated medications may have been distributed outside of the West African country, with global exposure “possible.” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters that the four cold and cough syrups in question “have been potentially linked with acute kidney injuries and 66 deaths among children.” “The loss of these young lives is beyond heartbreaking for their families.” Tedros said that WHO was also “conducting further investigation with the company and regulatory authorities in India.” According to the medical product alert issued by WHO Wednesday, the four products are Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup. “To date, the stated manufacturer has not provided guarantees to WHO on the safety and quality of these products,” the alert said, adding that laboratory analysis of samples of the products “confirms that they contain unacceptable amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol as contaminants.” Those substances are toxic to humans and can be fatal, it said, adding that the toxic effect “can include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, inability to pass urine, headache, altered mental state and acute kidney injury which may lead to death.” The Gambia’s health ministry asked hospitals last month to stop using a syrup paracetamol, pending the outcome of an investigation, after at least 28 children died of kidney failure. WHO said that information received from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation indicated that the manufacturer had only supplied the contaminated medications to The Gambia. “However, the supply of these products through informal or unregulated markets to other countries in Africa, cannot be ruled out,” the UN agency said in an email. “In addition, the manufacturer may have used the same contaminated material in other products and distributed them locally or exported,” it warned. “Global exposure is therefore possible.” Tedros urged caution, calling on all countries to work to “detect and remove these products from circulation to prevent further harm to patients.” The Gambian health ministry’s advice on syrup paracetamol was issued on September 9, a month after investigators reported the death of at least 28 children aged five months to four years from acute renal failure. The investigation had been opened on July 19. No details were given as to when the children died.

The Daily Dot reached out to the NFT group to inquire about its promotional material but did not receive a reply. As it turns out, the footage posted to TikTok is not even from the metaverse but from a video game known as VRChat. Although virtual strip clubs where dancers can receive tips have been created in virtual reality, one popular VR stripper told Mashable last year that they didn’t even come close to earning a living wage. Despite the obvious doubts about it, @holynft isn’t the only one out there pushing the fake career path. The tactic of promising TikTok users tens of thousands of dollars through virtual stripping, is being promoted by countless accounts across the site, many centered around entrepreneurship and so-called money-making hacks. Bitwise Launches New Web3 ETF As Crypto Markets Rebound – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/bitwise-launches-new-web3-etf-as-crypto-markets-rebound-cryptonews/ Source: AdobeStock/24K-Production Hoping to capitalize on the rebounding crypto markets, San Francisco-based crypto index fund provider Bitwise has rolled out BWEB, a new Web3 exchange-traded fund (ETF). ETFs are financial instruments that trade on an exchange like stock, but track a specific market or asset, such as bitcoin (BTC). “Today, many experts believe we’re on the cusp of a major evolution in the core architecture of the internet,” Matt Hougan, Bitwise’s Chief Investment Officer, said in a statement. “With the Bitwise Web3 ETF, we’re excited to give investors the opportunity to capture one of the fastest-emerging themes in technology through a diverse mix of companies that we believe will lead the charge.”  “More than 85% of the index is comprised of ‘pure-play’ companies directly linked to Web3 themes and business activities,” the statement said. A factsheet presenting the product states that, as of October 4, the ETF’s top ten holdings included crypto exchange Coinbase, online gaming platform Roblox, data center specialist Equinix, game developer Unity Software, Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms, social media platform Twitter, online retail specialist Shopify, networking and cyber-security business Cloudflare, game developer Electronic Arts, and game publisher Take-Two Interactive. With more than $1.3 billion in assets under management, the San Francisco-based firm says it is one of the largest crypto asset managers in the market. BWEB trades on the NYSE Arca, a U.S. securities exchange on which exchange-traded products (ETPs) and equities are listed. The Bank of New York Mellon is the ETF’s custodian and administrator, according to data from Bitwise.

U.S. Appeals Court Grants Justice Dept Expedited Appeal In Trump Case – Reuters.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-appeals-court-grants-justice-dept-expedited-appeal-in-trump-case-reuters-com/ WASHINGTON, Oct 5 (Reuters) – A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday granted the Justice Department’s request to expedite its appeal of a lower court order appointing a special master to review records the FBI seized from former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate. The decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit to fast-track the government’s appeal represents a setback for Trump, who had opposed the request. Last week, the Justice Department had asked the 11th Circuit to address concerns it still has with U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon’s appointment of Senior Judge Raymond Dearie, who is tasked with reviewing more than 11,000 records the FBI found inside Mar-a-Lago in order to weed out anything that may be privileged. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Cannon’s order blocks the Justice Department from relying on those records for its ongoing criminal investigation until Dearie’s review is complete. In its filing, the Justice Department said this prohibition is hampering its probe, and that it needs to be able to examine non-classified records that may have been stored in close proximity to classified ones. Those non-classified records, the department said, “may shed light” on how the documents were transferred to or stored at the Mar-a-Lago estate, and who might have accessed them. Amazon Sends Chilly Signs About The Economy TheStreet
Amazon Sends Chilly Signs About The Economy TheStreet
Amazon Sends Chilly Signs About The Economy – TheStreet https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/amazon-sends-chilly-signs-about-the-economy-thestreet/ Tech giants don’t bring good news for investors.  While the markets are looking for reassuring news on the health of the economy, Silicon Valley is only delivering very bad news.  In recent weeks, red signals have been sent by Alphabet  (GOOGL) , Microsoft  (MSFT)  and Meta Platforms  (META) .  Last month, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai warned against what he called “the toughest macroeconomic conditions” in the past 10 years. “Look, I hope all of you are reading the news, externally,” Pichai told employees during an all-hands meeting held this week in New York. “The fact that you know, we are being a bit more responsible through one of the toughest macroeconomic conditions underway in the past decade, I think it’s important that as a company, we pull together to get through moments like this.” RONNY HARTMANN/AFP via Getty Images Pichai was trying to justify why the company was taking drastic cost-cutting measures while profits remained strong. Google just canceled the next version of its Pixelbook laptop and dissolved the team responsible for building it. The company has also made cuts at its Area 120 tech incubator whose goal was to keep some of the company’s talent in-house, according to Silliconangle.com. Basically, Google is reducing funding and cutting about half of the unit’s current projects and teams. Alphabet has also cut several perks, travel and entertainment budgets. Also in September, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that the company was entering a new era marked by lackluster growth.  Meta Platforms, parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, would downsize for the first time since 2004.  This involves several actions: The firm will freeze hiring, restructure some teams and reduce budgets even for teams in growth sectors. Meta should, for example, not replace departures, and will part ways with people “who aren’t succeeding,” Zuckerberg told employees. “I had hoped the economy would have more clearly stabilized by now,” the chief executive officer said. “But from what we’re seeing, it doesn’t yet seem like it has, so we want to plan somewhat conservatively.” The boss added that Meta will be “somewhat smaller” by the end of 2023. Meta and Alphabet moves show economy softening as economists worry Federal Reserve’s aggressive interest rate hike to quell inflation could trigger a recession. Amazon Freezes Hiring Amazon  (AMZN)  seems to be following in the footsteps of Alphabet and Meta. The e-commerce giant will freeze corporate hiring in its retail division which includes online and physical stores, its marketplace for third-party sellers and Amazon Prime, its subscription service. The group founded by Jeff Bezos has asked recruiters to withdraw all current job offers in this division in the coming days, reports the New York Times, citing an internal memo. The company also asked them to put an end to the recruitment activities planned for the next few months.  There were more than 10,000 job openings posted in the stores division at the time the freeze was announced, according to the New York Times.  Amazon does not want to talk about hiring freeze, however. The company says new openings will be available in 2023. The hiring freeze is expected to last at least until the end of 2022.  The freeze won’t impact Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing division or the warehouse workers. Amazon did not respond to request for comment from TheStreet.  But Brad Glasser, a spokesperson, gave a statement to several media. “Amazon continues to have a significant number of open roles available across the company,” Glasser said. “We have many different businesses at various stages of evolution, and we expect to keep adjusting our hiring strategies in each of these businesses at various junctures.” Amazon’s retail division, which underwent a leadership change last summer, had experienced strong growth during the covid-19 pandemic, benefiting from the fact that consumers avoided physical stores.  To cope with the increase in demand, Amazon had also hired a lot of personnel, which had resulted in a workforce almost doubled in two years. But since the reopening, the growth of the retail business has slowed. Faced with this new reality, CEO Andy Jassy told investors that the firm will focus on cutting costs and being efficient. In recent months, the group has closed or canceled the launch of new sites. The Seattle company has also closed almost all of its U.S call centers, according to Bloomberg. “I would note that we’re still up 188,000 year over year and nearly double the headcount of what we had heading into the pandemic in early 2020,” Chief Financial Officer Brian Olsavsky told analysts during the second quarter earnings’ call. “There will be adjustments to that as we move forward into more holiday-level demand.

In Our View: Marshall Right Choice For County’s District 5 – The Columbian https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/in-our-view-marshall-right-choice-for-countys-district-5-the-columbian/ The Columbian Published: October 5, 2022, 6:03am Voters have a clear choice in the nonpartisan election for Clark County Council, District 5. Sue Marshall is a newcomer to politics, but she is a longtime resident who understands the issues of land-use planning, the tension between urban and rural areas, and the needs of her district. The Columbian’s Editorial Board recommends a vote for Marshall in the Nov. 8 general election. As always, this is merely a recommendation. The Columbian expects that voters will study the candidates and the issues before casting an informed ballot. In the case of Marshall, an interview with the editorial board revealed that she is eminently qualified to represent a district that includes Battle Ground, Ridgefield, La Center, Yacolt and many of the rural areas of north Clark County. She owns a hazelnut farm near Ridgefield, giving her insight into the needs of rural residents. She has worked for the Legislature, giving her insight into how policy is formed. And she has been involved with the Clark County Clean Water Commission, Friends of Clark County and the Clark Conservation District. Marshall has used that experience to develop a clear understanding of complex issues rather than clinging to dogma. Regarding land-use policy, she says, “I think a healthy rural community is part of a healthy economic landscape. There’s a whole infrastructure that supports farmers.” And she notes that inevitable growth requires balanced planning, saying that industrial land must be part of it – “land set aside for jobs.” Marshall’s thoughtful approach to governance is evident in a question about property taxes. Washington counties are limited to a 1 percent annual increase in the property tax levy, and county councilors in recent years have routinely rejected this increase. Even when they use it, the increase does not keep up with inflation, leading to a structural deficit that diminishes county services and damages the county’s fiscal stability. This contributes to obvious problems such as a shortage of sheriff’s deputies. It also contributes to issues that voters often ignore – until they are directly impacted. “If I don’t get my permit on time,” Marshall said, “the county isn’t responding to me. We need to show that tie to services and taxes.” Marshall mentioned the permitting process several times during an hourlong interview, demonstrating her knowledge of issues that affect residents. This insight is preferable to the history of demagoguery demonstrated by her opponent, Don Benton, who declined an invitation to meet with the editorial board but should be well-known to voters. As a state legislator, Benton was combative and pugnacious; as head of the county’s Department of Environmental Services, he was combative and pugnacious; as an executive in the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency, he was reassigned after three months. His role with environmental services was particularly troubling. Benton, who had no environmental experience, was hired by county councilors in a blatant act of cronyism. The department was later eliminated by the county manager, and last year Benton won $68,000 from Clark County in a lawsuit for wrongful termination. All of that, unfortunately, overshadows Benton’s qualifications to be county councilor. But it should not take away from the fact that Marshall is an exceptional candidate. The Columbian’s Editorial Board recommends Sue Marshall for Clark County councilor from District 5.

When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a commission. Learn more Emily McNutt These days, you can walk through the airport and see dozens of pieces of luggage that look similar — or even identical. And when it comes to telling yours apart from other travelers, a simple luggage tag can play a huge role. The main purpose of luggage tags is to keep your suitcase safe and ensure it makes its way back to you if lost. Luggage tags protect your belongings and help airport staff and everyone else know that your bag is yours. Luggage tags are a practical item that should be durable enough to withhold wear and tear as your bag gets shoved into overhead bins, tossed onto baggage claim belts by airport handlers or shoved in the trunk of a car. But durability aside, luggage tags should also be stylish and match the theme of your luggage whenever possible. They can help a basic black bag stand out with a cute, colorful pattern or even feature smart tracking capabilities. When selecting a luggage tag, keep style and durability in mind. Consider how easy the tag is to see, if it can be easily secured to your bag and that it stays firmly attached so it won’t fall off. Aim for a print, color or pattern that perfectly fits your personality and your favorite suitcase. Business travelers may want something more muted, while leisure travelers might prefer to go bold. And a colorful, bright tag isn’t a bad idea even for the most refined of travelers — it can ensure your bag will stand out from all the others on the baggage carousel. Whether it’s luxury leather, “Harry Potter”-patterned or water-resistant neoprene, here are some of our favorite luggage tags you can buy ahead of your next vacation. $33 at Sak’s Fifth Avenue For an added element of elegance, Longchamp’s Leather Luggage Tag features the brand’s signature logo subtly embossed in the middle of the caramel-colored tag. The pebbled leather, which comes with a leather strap and silver metallic pin buckle closure is perfect for any traveler who wants a more sophisticated tag for their hard-shell or soft-sided luggage. $65 at Bloomingdale’s Made from 100% leather, this Royce luggage tag is retractable to fit any piece of luggage — no matter if it’s a large checked suitcase or a small handle on a weekender bag. Inside the folded closure is a removable name tag — a nice extra layer of privacy so not everyone can see your personal information at a quick glance. Choose a subtle tone like tan and black, or select a brighter hue like light pink or silver. Regardless of color, the leather tag comes complete with a buckle closure so it’ll stay secure throughout your travels. $80 at Rimowa This chic luggage tag from the travel pros at Rimowa will liven up any basic black suitcase, giving it a polished, refined look. The Rimowa luggage tag is made in Italy out of Nappa leather and is available in eight colors from clementine to paprika, honey, black and more. The leather loop easily attaches to your bag, and the name card is covered to keep your personal information private. $29.50 at Madewell This one-of-a-kind luggage tag is made of leather — including the attached strap and slip-on cover, which offers the ultimate privacy protection. The tag comes in two basic colors: English saddle (a deep brown) and true black. The tag plus an optional accompanying leather Madewell passport case ($29.50) in the corresponding English saddle or true black tone is the ideal gift set for your favorite traveler — you can even monogram the items at no additional cost. $65 at July Yes, you can get these chic luggage tags personalized with your own name or initials. But, you know what’s even better? Getting your favorite furry friend imprinted on your luggage tag. Thanks to a new feature, July luggage — including luggage tags — can be monogrammed with the face of your pet. The luggage tags are made of full-grain leather and have a hidden privacy slot for your personal information card. What better way to take Fido on every journey with you than to have his face as the identification on your luggage tag? $55 at Mark & Graham This luxury, pebbled-leather luggage tag can be monogrammed with your initials for an additional $12.50 and comes in six distinct colors. While the subtle color options like camel, navy and black are classic choices, we love the blush and kelly green hues for travelers who want to give their suitcases an added splash of color. The tags come with a privacy flap to protect your personal information. $27 at Amazon This luggage tag is a favorite because not only is it made of lovely tanned leather, but it can also be customized. Give the tag as a gift or get one for yourself ahead of your next trip. It’s available in four colors — mahogany, rock, rose and sand — and features a business card-sized ID pocket with a durable snap closure to keep your personal information protected. $29.90 at Airport Tag If you want to spot your suitcase from miles away, consider a customized luggage tag that looks just like a boarding pass. Not only will your name, address and email be printed on the durable plastic tag, but you can also personalize the boarding pass section, selecting your favorite departure and arrival airport to appear on the tag, too. Whether it’s MIA LAX or JFK LHR, your tag will be a unique reminder of your favorite travel routes, perfect for aviation geeks and travel lovers alike. $7.99 at Amazon The perfect honeymoon gift for your favorite newlywed travelers, this set of luggage tags comes with one white tag with “Mrs.” embroidered in blush and one grey tag with “Mr.” embroidered in black. Included leather straps attach to the travel backpack or suitcase of your choosing. The best part? The tags come in a pack of two, so you can gift one to your preferred wine-loving travel buddy, too. $8.56 $5.99 at Amazon If you’re in the market for eco-friendly polyurethane leather luggage tags at an affordable price, it doesn’t get much better than the Travelambo two-pack. The tags come in 35 different color and pattern options, from basic black and grey for business travelers to a more outspoken glitter purple or a bright neon yellow. Complete with a privacy cover and steel buckle, these tags will stay attached to your bag even during the wear and tear that comes with frequent travel. $14.27 $9.99 at Amazon These silicone luggage tags are flexible and bendable, meaning if your suitcase is tossed around, the luggage tag will move right along with your bag and stay firmly attached, thanks to its secure metal ring. The tags, which feature an airplane and come in various color packs (including a multi-color pack), have a privacy cover so only your name is visible unless you slide the cover open to see the rest of your personal information. Plus, the tags’ bright colors like neon green and orange will ensure no one will mistake your bag for theirs. $14.95 at Amazon This colorful luggage tag is easy to spot thanks to its striped, bold tones that perfectly complement a basic black or navy suitcase. The Kate Spade tag is made from vegan leather, complete with a strap and buckle plus a privacy cover. And if you want to take the striped theme a step further, pick up the matching Kate Spade Striped Notebook to use as a travel journal. $20.52 $18.75 at Amazon This tough, waterproof aluminum tag comes with a QR code that fellow travelers can scan to view your information if your bag is lost. Recently Blackmon conducted a survey of the Farm Star Living community, with 5,000 people responding: 95% said they take health and wellness seriously 97% practice self-care; spa services, meditation, yoga, healthy eating, walking, mindfulness, 74% they’d be interested in a health and wellness retreat Blackmon, always the entrepreneur, listened to her community and has just launched Farm to Wellness Retreats to help others achieve their personal goals and dreams of a healthier way of life. Now self-care, holistic health and even inspiration is more accessible than ever. Stay tuned as Blackmon’s next entrepreneurial journey – and personal next chapter – is just beginning. Mary Blackmon’s Backstory – From Spa Star to Farm Star A pioneer in digital marketing working at Wired in NYC who helped roll out the ‘ad banner’ across the USA (1996), Mary later launched the former Spa Addicts in January, 2003, to help ‘the everywoman’ find luxury spa services more affordably – prior to the spa boom or sites like GroupOn that followed many years later. She soon became a celebrated advocate for me-time and self-care, or in other words an influencer (before social media), promoting this passionate message for brands such as Cadillac, Blackberry, Johnson & Johnson and more. Blackmon penned columns for IVillage, Skin Inc. and contributed to others including Health, and was featured in national women’s magazines from O Oprah Magazine to Cosmo to Women’s Health, and a featured speaker across the USA and in Canada. Then came a significant life decision, to step up to take over the family rice farm spanning thousands of acres or watch it disappear. So, in 2009, Blackmon traded in her spa robe for overalls, leaving Beverly Hills for the Arkansas Louisiana Delta, and learned how to farm. This confirmed how she had always felt – farmers are our unsung heroes who are rarely given their rightful due, so she started a new business Farm Star Living, celebrating farmers and farms and presenting them for the first time in a more accessible, hip and pop-culture spin. This was the first website to make ‘farm to table’ a way of life and spotlight those who had been so often overlooked. Blackmon created one of America’s first agritourism farm directories, featuring approximately 1,000 farms offering activities including apple picking, alligator farms, corn mazes, petting zoos, honeybee plantations and more. Her name has become synonymous with farm-fresh food over the last ten years and has been a go-to agriculture expert for Fox & Friends, hailed as one of the most “important farm voices in the USA” (Country Woman Magazine), been featured in national and regional TV, magazines, podcasts, and iHeart Radio, sharing insights into food trends, tips and farming. She has taken site visitors behind the scenes in videos filmed at farms, food shows and created content on healthy eating and foods. An Evolving Community Yet, Blackmon’s passion for self-care still has remained dear to her heart, as has overall wellness, and so in 2021, she became a certified Integrative Health & Wellness coach to uplevel her skills and ability to empower and educate others. The pandemic and the alarming increase in many neglecting self-care, mental health, and wellness issues reaffirmed her need for this, as did the Farm Star Living community. ABOUT Blackmon is pioneering a new way of living, which she calls farm to wellness, integrating fresh food while partnering with boutique wellness destinations, offering holistic, self-care, and mind-body-spirit health. Blackmon is evolving, stepping into a new venture fueled by passion, digital expertise, and mind, body, and spirit. She continues to inspire, motivate and educate audiences on how to be their most healthy versions of themselves. 2022 MLB Playoff Field Is Set With Seeds Locked: Wild Card Series Schedule And Format Explained – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/2022-mlb-playoff-field-is-set-with-seeds-locked-wild-card-series-schedule-and-format-explained-cbs-sports/ USATSI With the action from Tuesday, Oct. 4 between playoff teams concluded, we know now for certain that the games on the final day of the regular season are all meaningless in terms of the playoff field. Each of the 12 teams was already clinched heading into Tuesday, then the Braves clinched the NL East and results for the last two wild-card teams on both sides of the bracket settled the matchups.  Here’s how it’ll look.  American League Byes: No. 1 Houston Astros and No. 2 New York Yankees Wild Card Series: No. 5 Seattle Mariners at No. 4 Toronto Blue Jays Wild Card Series: No. 6 Tampa Bay Rays at No. 3 Cleveland Guardians The Wild Card Series will be three games all in the same ballpark with no travel. There won’t be re-seeding, either, so the winner of the Rays-Guardians series faces the Yankees in the ALDS while the Mariners-Blue Jays winner heads to Houston.  For a full breakdown of the new format, we’ve got you covered.  National League Byes: No. 1 Los Angeles Dodgers and No. 2 Atlanta Braves Wild Card Series: No. 5. San Diego Padres at No. 4 New York Mets Wild Card Series: No. 6. Philadelphia Phillies at No. 3 St. Louis Cardinals As noted, there isn’t re-seeding after the first round. It’s a locked bracket, so the winner of the Padres-Mets gets the Dodgers in the NLDS while the winner of the Phillies-Cardinals series gets the defending champion Braves.  The individual game times haven’t been assigned yet, but we know all four Wild Card Series will be played Friday, Saturday and, if necessary, the clinching Game 3 would be played Sunday.  Wild Card Series schedule (best-of-three) Friday, Oct. 7 Game 1: Mets vs. Padres ESPN Game 1: Cardinals vs. Phillies ESPN Game 1: Guardians vs. Rays ESPN Game 1: Blue Jays vs. Mariners ESPN Saturday, Oct. 8 Game 2: Mets vs. Padres ESPN Game 2: Cardinals vs. Phillies ESPN Game 2: Guardians vs. Rays ESPN Game 2: Blue Jays vs. Mariners ESPN Sunday, Oct. 9 Game 3: Mets vs. Padres (if nec.) ESPN Game 3: Cardinals vs. Phillies (if nec.) ESPN Game 3: Guardians vs. Rays (if nec.) ESPN Game 3: Blue Jays vs. Mariners (if nec.) ESPN Game 1 of all four divisional series will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Check out the full schedule here.

(Kitco News) – Institutions continue to ramp up their cryptocurrency offerings as global regulators increasingly move towards establishing a working framework for dealing with the nascent asset class as adoption treks higher.  Most recently, Fidelity Investments has launched a new Ethereum Index Fund that will provide its clients with exposure to Ether (ETH), according to a document the firm filed with the SEC on Sept. 26. The new fund accepts minimum outside investments of $50,000 and it has already seen more than $5 million in reported sales.  The multi-trillion dollar asset manager launched originally launched its crypto-focused institutional custody and trading platform Fidelity Digital Assets in 2018. The firm currently offers two exchange-traded crypto funds that are dedicated to the metaverse and digital payments.  This most recent development follows last month’s revelation that Fidelity Investments is mulling over the idea of letting all of its retail customers have access to trading Bitcoin (BTC) directly through the brokerage platform.  Fidelity Digital Assets is also part of a group of institutions that are backing the launch of EDX Markets (EDXM), “a first-of-its-kind exchange that will address latent demand for digital asset trading by enabling safe and compliant trading of digital assets through trusted intermediaries.”  Bitwise launches a Metaverse ETF In other institutional news, crypto index fund manager Bitwise Asset Management has announced the launch of the Bitwise Web3 exchange-traded fund (ETF), which includes exposure to five categories of Web3 companies. According to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing dated Oct. 4, the Bitwise Web3 ETF (BWEB) is now listed and trading on NYSE Arca, an all-electronic, U.S.-based exchange for listing and trading ETFs. The five categories of Web3 companies included in the BWEB are infrastructure providers, finance, metaverse and digital worlds, “web3-enabled creator economy” and development and governance.  The ETF offers exposure to up to 40 companies, with at least 85% of the portfolio “directly linked to business activities associated with one or more key areas of growth in web3,” Bitwise said on its website. “With the Bitwise Web3 ETF, we’re excited to give investors the opportunity to capture one of the fastest-emerging themes in technology through a diverse mix of companies that we believe will lead the charge,” Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan said in the product announcement.  According to the ETFs product sheet, BWEB is based on the Bitwise Web3 Equities Index and has management fees equivalent to .85% of average daily net assets.   Disclaimer: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and may not reflect those of Kitco Metals Inc. U.Today has prepared summaries of the top four news stories over the past day. Stay tuned for current crypto industry events! Cardano founder makes staggering prediction about Bitcoin Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano blockchain and Input Output CEO, made an astounding prediction about Bitcoin during a recent YouTube livestream. According to Hoskinson, five years from now, there will be more Bitcoin outside of the main chain than within the main chain. He believes that Bitcoin will be used by all sorts of decentralized applications, smart contracts and even nation-states. At the same time, Hoskinson complained about the “humongous” amount of power that Bitcoin uses, adding that there is no need for the energy-hungry PoW consensus algorithm as there are synthetic versions of BTC that can function on other blockchains. “Wrapped Bitcoin is Bitcoin,” said the Cardano founder. XRP may make everyone cry, this trader says Crypto Rand, pseudonymous trader and investor with more than 300,000 followers on Twitter, has shared an optimistic post regarding the XRP cryptocurrency. He wrote that the Ripple-affiliated token could be potentially “loading a moonshot,” which would make “everyone cry.” Along with this prediction, he shared an XRP price chart showing that the token appears to have formed a symmetrical triangle. Such patterns typically form during periods of consolidation. The current trend is moving upward, which is good news for the bulls. At the moment of writing, XRP is changing hands at $0.48, up 3% over the past 24 hours and up 12% over the past week. SHIB Metaverse team reveals crucial new update The team behind the Shiba Inu Metaverse has recently unveiled the art concept of “Canyon,” a new digital location that will be crucial for metaverse users. As the team explained in its recent blog post, the Canyon hub will provide the full digital experience of being in the countryside or at a campsite, with rivers, canyons, mountains and other elements of “breathtaking scenery” and something similar to a “Burning Man Party Area.” So far, the art concept of the hub has only been presented in black and white. In September, developers shared the art concepts of two other hubs crucial for the community and the metaverse – WAGMI Temple and Rocket Pond. BabyDoge easily passes strong resistance level following 10% breakout Yesterday, BabyDoge demonstrated outstanding price performance as it broke out of the local resistance level, showing some signs of an upcoming acceleration. The meme token showed a 12% return despite plunging by 2-4% every few hours. After the breakout above the 50-day moving average, BabyDoge will most likely move toward the 200-day moving average, considering the unlikelihood of a “1 day rally.” The trading volume suggests that the asset appears to have all the support necessary for a significant price surge. The only thing that might cause the asset’s price to decline from this point would be a rise in selling pressure from retail or short-term investors.

Streaming Video Technology Alliance Accepting Applications For 2023 Grant Membership Program – Business Wire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/streaming-video-technology-alliance-accepting-applications-for-2023-grant-membership-program-business-wire/ FREMONT, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA), a global technical association developing solutions to address critical technical challenges in delivering a high-quality video experience at scale, announced today that the application process is now open for its 2023 Grant Membership Program. The Program enables smaller organizations, such as startups, to participate in and contribute to the SVTA’s work as Principal Members for one year by waiving the standard membership fees. To qualify for the Program, companies must be able to confirm that they generate less than $1.5M in annual revenue. Now in its sixth year, the SVTA Grant Membership Program has awarded a total of 21 grants and 14 grant renewal memberships. Grant recipients are eligible for membership renewals based on their contributions. A special committee chartered by the board is in charge of the renewal selection process. “It’s tremendously rewarding to introduce more voices and perspectives into the SVTA from across the streaming industry, a core tenet of the Grant Membership Program and our Diversity and Inclusion initiative,” said Jason Thibeault, Executive Director at the Streaming Video Technology Alliance. “We are pleased to share that we have met our goal of awarding at least 50% of the grants for the past two years to businesses led by underrepresented groups.” Grant recipient companies are required to attend SVTA’s three member meetings each year (there are no limits on how many people from each company can attend) and participate in relevant working groups. They also have access to SVTA’s intranet and documents and can contribute to projects and vote on documents. Current grant members include Blockcast, Netskrt, picoNETS, Datazoom, Didja, Touchstream, and allt. In addition to contributing directly to SVTA efforts, this program also provides innovative and cutting-edge technology companies an opportunity to work side-by-side with major players in the streaming space. This can even lead to acquisitions of Grant awardees by other member companies as SVTA has seen with Streamroot (acquired by Lumen), Content Armor (acquired by Synamedia), and Quortex (acquired by Synamedia). Another grant member, Peer5, was acquired by Microsoft. Organizations interested in applying for the 2023 Grant Membership Program can find more information here: https://www.svta.org/svta-grant-program/ SVTA Returns to In-person Gatherings with Q3/Q4 2022 Member Meeting The SVTA’s third and final member meeting of the year is scheduled for October 18 – 19, 2022, in Charleston, South Carolina. Hurricane Ian Destroys Floridas dome Home The Washington Post
Hurricane Ian Destroys Floridas dome Home The Washington Post
Hurricane Ian Destroys Florida’s ‘dome Home’ – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/hurricane-ian-destroys-floridas-dome-home-the-washington-post/ They stood sentry in the blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico: a string of white domes raised on columns that, depending on the viewer, resembled igloos or jellyfish or some sort of sci-fi creature. Built by an amateur inventor in the eighties to be self-sustaining, solar-powered and hurricane-resistant, the unusual retreat was once valued at $1.5 million, envisioned as part of a neighborhood of getaway homes on the white-sand Cape Romano, near Marco Island. Nature had other plans. Beginning in the early 2000s, hurricanes and erosion ate away at the land where the Cape Romano dome home sat. By this year, it was hundreds of feet off the shore — an otherworldly local landmark that drew a stream of sightseers who arrived by boat. Now, the domes have been lost to the sea. When Hurricane Ian tore through southwest Florida last week, they were destroyed. In photos taken by local shelling companies, all that remains were a few columns poking, just barely, out of the water. The much-mythologized home succumbed to the same forces it was designed to resist, becoming a symbol of the area’s enormous loss. “It was coming eventually,” said Brian Slager, who lived in the house from 1989 to 1991. “And a storm as bad as this one — if anything’s going to take it, this would. I’ve been around in Florida and living long enough to know that if Mother Nature wants to take something, it takes it.” Ian dealt a devastating blow to the region when it made landfall near Fort Myers as a nearly Category 5 hurricane. The death toll stood at more than 70 on Tuesday and was expected to continue climbing. Homes along the storm’s path were flooded to their second stories, stripped of their roofs or reduced to nothing but concrete, wood and debris. By comparison, the long-empty dome home is a lesser loss. “The abandoned house that got blown away is a lot less of a let down than the people who actually have their houses that blew away,” Alex Demooy of Breakwater Adventures told the Naples Daily News. Yet its destruction still struck a chord. Treasure Seekers Shell Tours posted a Facebook Reel showing what was left of the chain of domes, writing that they had loved showing it off during tours and were “SO sad” to report the destruction. An RIP Dome Homes group sprang up on the social media network, gaining more than 500 members within days. Visitors shared a rush of photos and memories in tribute. One woman wrote that the domes had been a favorite spot of her family’s. When her husband died nearly a year ago, it was there that they decided to have a memorial toast. “This way we could always ‘visit’ him in one of our happy places,” she added. What became a treasured monument began as one man’s dream. Bob Lee was a Tennessee resident who retired early after a lucrative oil career, according to a 2013 Florida Weekly story. He loved southwest Florida and set out to build a vacation home on the nearly untouched beachfront of Cape Romano, accessible only by water. Lee was imaginative and inventive, always tinkering and dreaming up new innovations. He was also, as daughter Janet Maples put it to the Coastal Breeze, “way before his time.” The house, for which he purchased land from four different owners, was made of cement mixed from the island’s sand and filled with foam for climate control. It made up of domes, so rainwater would run down the sides and into a cistern for use in showers and dishwashing, grandson Mike Morgan said. That wasn’t the only benefit. “The main structure’s design is very high wind resistant because there’s no sharp edges or flat surfaces for the wind to catch on,” Morgan told the Coastal Breeze. “That was another thought process that my grandfather had when he built them.” When Slager first spotted it, he thought, “Oh, my God, what a fabulous place that is.” He wondered who owned it: someone rich and famous? He wound up living on the property years later, hired to keep watch over it by a man who bought it from Lee. It was a nature lover’s paradise, Slager said, with only two homes as neighbors. They were unusual, too — one shaped like a pyramid and another up on stilts. He recalled “a lot of adventure” from those days: once giving a tour to a boatload of women, another time seeing his dog chase after a Florida panther and return the next day, “his tail wagging like nothing happened.” On Marco Island, he said, local lore had it that the odd-looking home was used by government agents or guarded with machine guns: “The stories were all over the island.” The Lee family eventually retook ownership of the property and lived in it once more, until Hurricane Andrew knocked out the windows and damaged the interior in 1992. In 2005, a man named John Tosto purchased the place for $300,000 with plans of renovating and moving the house further from the shore, according to the Naples Daily News. Then Hurricane Wilma hit. That was the beginning of the end, eroding the beach significantly. Two years later, Collier County declared the property uninhabitable; hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines would follow for Tosto. Maples told the Coastal Breeze that she could remember a time “when it was actually an exhausting walk to the beach.” But over the years, the shore receded further and further from the domes. The other two homes were long since washed out to sea. The neighborhood, if there had been one, would have vanished, too. “Thumbing through historical photos, the shifting ground makes it appear the domes crept themselves into the sea, until today they are totally surrounded by water,” Cynthia Mott wrote in the Florida Weekly story. “Cape Romano got a makeover and the dome homes got a new yard.” To some, it was a sign of climate change. Jayantha Obeysekera, research professor and director of the Sea Level Solutions Center at Florida International University, told E&E News in 2019 that it was “a very telling example of how climate change and sea-level rise will affect us in the future.” There was talk at one point of manually sinking the domes as a natural reef, the Naples Daily News reported. But that didn’t happen. Many, including the executive director of the regional tourism agency, didn’t want to see it go. The home had long since begun its second life as an ocean object of wonder, photo backdrop and tour stop. Nikki Webster, an Orlando resident who runs the travel blog Brit on the Move, stumbled across a photograph of the domes online and visited in 2019. She chronicled the voyage on her blog, calling it an “exhilarating experience.” “It reminded me of when I saw the pyramids,” Webster said in an interview. “It’s like they appear, and you’re just like, ‘Whoa, what is that?’ ” She exhorted people to visit, always with a warning: “I told everybody I know this is a very short-lived piece of history,” she said, “that the sea is going to claim.”
