TSET Launches New Secondhand Smoke Campaigns | News | Tahlequahdailypress.com – Tahlequah Daily Press https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tset-launches-new-secondhand-smoke-campaigns-news-tahlequahdailypress-com-tahlequah-daily-press/
The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust’s “Tobacco Stops With Me” program kicked off Sept. 19 with two new statewide campaigns focused on the effects of secondhand smoke on Oklahomans.
Sarah Carson, TSET public information specialist, said the campaigns are called “It’s Like They’re Smoking” and “Balloons” and mainly concentrate on the dangers of secondhand smoke to children and youth.
“We are focused on how when they are exposed to secondhand smoke, it is just like they themselves are smoking. In fact, being exposed to 30 minutes of secondhand smoke is like having smoked yourself,” said Carson.
She said 200,000 children in Oklahoma are exposed to secondhand smoke in their homes.
Carson said she thinks it is important for the campaign to cover secondhand smoke, as it has a lot of the same effects for children as it does for adults. The campaigns are directed mainly at secondhand smoke from cigarettes, but they do touch on the implications of secondhand vaping.
While no events are scheduled for the campaigns, there is related material on TV broadcasts, websites, and social media platforms.
“We hope to create more awareness for the realities of secondhand smoke and the seriousness of the issue and to also educate Oklahomans on why comprehensive smoke-free laws throughout the state are important,” said Carson.
Lora Buechele, Cherokee County program coordinator for the TSET Healthy Living Program, said she thinks secondhand smoke is still an issue in today’s climate.
“Secondhand smoke is an issue because tobacco smoke is an issue,” said Buechele.
She said from a local level she hopes the campaigns will cause more people to notice how smoking in public places can impact others, especially children or people with health concerns, such as asthma.
“I think that secondhand smoke is still very prevalent today. Even though we see a decline in adult smoking rates, we still have a lot of youth across the state and in Cherokee County who are exposed to secondhand smoke and it’s so dangerous,” said Buechele.
Charlie Gagen, American Lung Association advocacy director for Oklahoma and Texas, said secondhand smoke can be defined as the smoke that comes from burning tobacco products as well as smoke that has been exhaled.
“It is a serious health hazard. In fact, it causes more than 41,000 deaths per year in the United States,” said Gagen. “Additionally, it can cause or make worse a wide range of health effects in children and adults, including lung cancer, respiratory infections, and asthma. Even a relatively brief exposure to secondhand smoke could trigger a heart attack, according to some studies.”
Gagen said due to children’s bodies constantly growing this causes them to be more vulnerable to health issues from secondhand smoking. For example, he said babies who are exposed to the substance are more likely to die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, exposure to fetuses and babies can cause them to have weaker lungs, and children who are exposed are often more sick with bronchitis, pneumonia, and ear infections.
Gagen said it doesn’t matter where secondhand smoke comes from, but in places such as indoor areas the smoke can linger longer.
Sonya Davidson, a preventionist with Tahlequah BEST Community Coalition, said she thinks smoking is mainly prevalent in outdoor settings due to laws against smoking inside.
“I don’t think a lot of people really think about it or realize what it entails because the smoker themselves make that choice to use a nicotine product on their own, but those who are exposed to secondhand smoke from that product also suffer consequences from a decision that might not be one of their own,” said Davidson.

ADAPTATIONS: LAND, an environmentally-conscious mixed media art exhibit, kicked off yesterday in San Fransisco. Running now through November 13th, the gallery offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in a number of thought-provoking installations.
This includes ‘Paper Metaverse,’ a unique augmented reality (AR) exhibit by Nick Philip of the art collective Imaginary Foundation that blends cutting-edge technology with paperback books. Surrounded by classic literature, visitors scan real paperback novels using their smartphones to unlock AR-powered NFTs.
“This installation uses the forgotten pages of yesterday’s novels to tell a collection of stories for tomorrow’s shifting reality,”said the Imaginary Foundation on Facebook. “By contrasting an environment built from thousands of upcycled paperback novels with a dynamic layer of augmented reality activated NFTs, the Paperback Metaverse fuses the physical, the virtual, and the sculptural.”
Those lucky enough to find themselves in San Fransisco can check out Paperback Metaverse along with a number of other unique mixed media installations at The Drawing Room Annex, 780 Valencia Street SF. The gallery is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11-7pm as well as Fridays & Saturdays from 11-9pm.

Shaken Not Stirred: It’s James Bond Day! – Zinc 96.1 https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/shaken-not-stirred-its-james-bond-day-zinc-96-1/
Bond. James Bond.
He’s the most famous spy in the world who really needs no introduction, but we couldn’t resist including that famous line.
And October 5 every year is Global James Bond Day to show our love for 007!
Article continues after this ad

The date of James Bond Day comes from the World Premiere of the first James Bond film, Dr No, in 1962, in which Sean Connery played 007.
Check out the cool trailer!
James Bond the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, and the films are one of the longest continually running film series.
There’s been 25 official Bond movies made, and you can watch them on Amazon Prime, or rent them individually on Apple TV and Google Play.
Then you can decide who your favourite Bond actor is – Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig.

Our money’s on Craig, whose 16-year span of movies makes him the longest-serving Bond in the history of the franchise. Swoon!

Anyway, grab yourself a cool martini – recipes at the end – and find out why “James Bond” is boring, what theme songs have won Oscars, the Guinness World Records the movies have set, and how old 007 really is.
60 years of Bond
This year marks the 60th anniversary of James Bond franchise, and a fabulous highlights video was played at this year’s Academy Awards to celebrate.

It’s a terrific reminder of what makes James Bond so enthralling after so many decades and was a particularly wonderful tribute for Bond actors Sean Connery who died in 2020 and Roger Moore who died in 2017.
Watching it makes us eager to find out who will become the next 007!
A dull name for a suave spy
Most of us know Bond from the movies, but he started out as a character in Ian Fleming’s 12 spy novels. After Fleming’s death, other authorised writers took over the material to continue the series.
Now, no one would describe 007 as dull, but Fleming purposefully wanted a boring name for his spy.

//= $post_text; ?
Turns out Fleming was a keen birdwatcher and when coming up with a name for his main character, his eyes landed on a copy of a nearby book, Birds of the West Indies by James Bond.
He explained: “I wanted the simplest, dullest, plainest-sounding name I could find, ‘James Bond’ was much better than something more interesting, like ‘Peregrine Carruthers’. Exotic things would happen to and around him, but he would be a neutral figure—an anonymous, blunt instrument wielded by a government department.”
James Bond’s true age
A fictional biography of James Bond by John Pearson puts Bond’s date of birth as November 11, 1920, making him more than 100 years old today.
Of course, with the movies spanning decades and not wanting to age him, he’s remained around the mid 40s. So his date of birth is always going to be fluid.

The actors who’ve played Bond have ranged in real-life age from 30 (George Lazenby in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service) to 57 (Roger Moore in 1985’s A View To A Kill) while in the role.
As talk of the next Bond movie increases, producers have put to rest rumours that the actor who’ll take the famous role could be in their 20s in real life.
Michael Wilson told Deadline: “Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something. He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something.”
The Oscar-winning music
The music is as much a part of the allure as Bond’s cars, gadgets and suits, and the theme songs have been winning awards.

In 2013 Adele and songwriting partner Paul Epworth won an Oscar for Skyfall, the theme song to the 2012 Bond film of the same name. The epic composition features a 77-piece backing orchestra and was voted as the best theme to a Bond film ever in an informal Billboard poll.
It was the first Bond theme song to win at the Oscars, with Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall from Spectre winning an Oscar three years later and No Time to Die by Billie Eilish and Finneas taking out an Oscar in this year’s awards.
There’s also an Amazon Prime documentary showcasing all the music from the films, which looks great.
Not just any explosions, but record-breaking ones
The heart-stopping, perilous situations that Bond finds himself in (and the skilled ways he escapes) are part of the fun of the movies, and the epic stunts and explosions are legendary.

//= $post_text; ?
Case in point: Skyfall’s train fight opening scene. (Didn’t breathe once.)
So it’s no surprise the production team have set three Guinness World records for scenes in Bond movies, all with Daniel Craig in the role.
Spectre holds the record for the largest film stunt explosion, while Casino Royale set the record for the most cannon rolls in a car. And Craig’s final movie, No Time to Die, also set an explosion record.
How to make Bond’s famous martinis – yes, there are three!
We all know Bond loves his martinis shaken, not stirred, but did you know there’s been a few variations of his favourite drink over the years?

While the classic vodka Martini is his go-to drink of choice, Daniel Craig’s portrayal of Bond has introduced some twists on the classic.
In 2007’s Casino Royale at a high stakes poker game, Bond orders a Vesper Martini, inspired by sultry agent Vesper Lynd. And in 2015’s Spectre, James and love interest Madeleine Swann drink Dirty Martinis on a train.
Check out the recipes below.

2 measures vodka
Half to three-quarters measure of dry vermouth (depending on taste)
twist of fresh lemon peel

SEC Chair Gensler Insists Most Crypto Tokens Are Securities Says the Law Is Clear Regulation Bitcoin News Bitcoin News
SEC Chair Gensler Insists Most Crypto Tokens Are Securities — Says ‘the Law Is Clear’ – Regulation Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/sec-chair-gensler-insists-most-crypto-tokens-are-securities-says-the-law-is-clear-regulation-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
The chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Gary Gensler, has reiterated that most crypto tokens are securities, emphasizing that “the law is clear on this.” However, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has asked Congress for authority over crypto spot markets and several bills have been introduced in Congress this year to provide the CFTC with the necessary authority.
SEC Chairman Gary Gensler on Crypto Regulation
The issue of which federal agency should regulate the crypto market has gained much attention recently. While the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Gary Gensler, has said that the majority of crypto tokens are securities and should fall under the purview of his agency, many people and lawmakers believe that it should be the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) that regulates the crypto sector. Moreover, three bills have been introduced in Congress this year to make the CFTC the regulator of the crypto markets.
In an interview with CNBC Monday, Gensler responded to a question about who should regulate the crypto sector. The SEC chief explained:
Our agency is an agency that oversees this basic bargain. When a group of entrepreneurs is raising money from the public and the public is anticipating a profit, they need disclosure — full, fair, and truthful disclosure, and that’s the core bargain in our capital markets.
The SEC chairman continued: “You get to take the risk but the person raising money or the persons raising money has to disclose various information to you. That’s how our capital markets work best, and the SEC is very good at this and that’s what we do.” He emphasized:
The law is clear on this. I believe based on the facts and circumstances, most of these tokens are securities.
On Monday, at the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) meeting, presided by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Gensler reiterated: “Of the nearly 10,000 tokens in the crypto market, I believe the vast majority are securities. Offers and sales of these crypto security tokens are covered by the securities laws. Given that most crypto tokens are securities, it follows that many crypto intermediaries are transacting in securities and have to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission in some capacity.”
Regarding the SEC collaborating with the CFTC, Gensler stressed:
To the extent that crypto intermediaries may need to one day register with both the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), I would note we currently have dual registrants in the broker-dealer space and in the fund advisory space.
Meanwhile, the CFTC has asked Congress for authority over the crypto cash market. CFTC Chairman Rostin Behnam explained last week that since the CFTC is a derivatives regulator, it does not currently oversee cash markets. Therefore, he has asked Congress for “cash authorities, so that we can go in the bitcoin cash market, the ether cash market, and the other digital commodity token [markets],” the CFTC chief explained last week.
He also said that the SEC and CFTC will have to “figure that out legislatively” because crypto is a new asset class. “There are different components and characteristics of this asset class as opposed to traditional asset classes,” Behnam said, adding: “We have to rely on 70-year-old case law to determine what’s a security, what’s a commodity.”
Who do you think should regulate the crypto market, the SEC or the CFTC? Let us know in the comments section below.

TAIPEI, Oct 5 (Reuters) – Taiwan will use the new U.S.-led “Chip 4” group to safeguard the interests of Taiwanese companies and to ensure supply chain resilience, a deputy minister said on Wednesday, though he added that the group had no agenda yet.
A preliminary meeting of the group took place last week with representatives from Taiwan, the United States, South Korea and Japan attending. read more
A global semiconductor shortage has thrust chip powerhouse Taiwan into the spotlight and made supply chain management a bigger priority for governments around the world.

Taiwan Deputy Economy Minister Chen Chern-chyi told reporters in Taipei that chipmaking required collaboration to ensure a “very resilient supply chain”.
“We will use that platform to strive to safeguard our companies’ interest,” he said, but added that the group not started formal meetings.
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has said that the island is committed to ensuring its partners have reliable supplies of semiconductors and has urged allies to boost collaboration amid intensified threats from China.
Beijing claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory. Taiwan’s government rejects China’s sovereignty claims.
The “Chip 4” group’s Asian members are home to the world’s largest contract chip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (2330.TW), South Korean memory chip giants Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) and SK Hynix (000660.KS), and key Japanese suppliers of semiconductor materials and equipment.
The establishment of the group also comes on the heels of a new U.S. law passed in August that includes $52 billion in subsidies for companies that make chips or conduct chip research in the United States, as Washington looks to lessen U.S. reliance on Asia for semiconductors.
Asked about the United States wanting to reduce its reliance on manufacturing in Taiwan, Chen said Taiwan’s chip industry has a well integrated supply chain and a very good workforce.
“From the government’s perspective we think Taiwan’s advantage and Taiwan’s edge in developing the most advanced manufacturing technology will always be here in Taiwan.”
But the government is happy to see Taiwanese chip firms investing in like-minded countries, he added.
“We think that will only deepen and strengthen our relations.”

Tesla will remove more vehicle sensors amid Autopilot scrutiny
Tesla vehicles now have 12 ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear bumpers
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) said on Tuesday it will remove ultrasonic sensors from its vehicles starting this month, as it moves ahead with using only cameras in its safety and driver-assistant features.
Tesla vehicles now have 12 ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear bumpers, and short-range sound sensors are mainly used in parking applications and to detect close objects.
“It’ll save them a few dollars. I mean those things are pretty cheap,” Guidehouse Insights analyst Sam Abuelsamid said, referring to ultrasonic sensors. “It’ll also save them some chips.”
Tesla last year started dropping radar sensors amid a chip shortage.
Chief Executive Elon Musk has said Tesla can achieve full autonomy with cameras only, but he has missed his targets to roll out self-driving taxis which require no drivers.
The automaker faces growing regulatory, legal and public scrutiny over its Autopilot system following crashes.
Tesla said it will remove ultrasonic sensors from the Model 3 and Model Y globally over the next few months, followed by the Model S and Model X in 2023.
The transition will temporarily limit automated parking features, but not affect crash safety ratings, Tesla noted.
“It remains to be seen whether this will be ‘two steps forward and one step backward’ or the other way around,” said Raj Rajkumar, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
While self-driving tech firms and automakers use multiple sensors like expensive lidars, Tesla relies only on cameras and artificial intelligence to help a vehicle recognize the environment.
“The question is how well the cameras can see nearby the car, which sometimes can be limited,” said Professor Philip Koopman of Carnegie Mellon University.
A widely followed Tesla researcher known only as “Green” on Twitter tweeted on Tuesday that ultrasonic sensors are also used in Autopilot as a “fail-safe” feature for changing lanes.
“Impact on safety of autopilot is likely small. Now impact of safety of manual parking on the other hand might be big,” he said, adding that parking chimes help people avoid hitting walls and other obstacles.

Councilors also OK new fund to collect revenue
Published: October 4, 2022, 6:16pm
Clark County Council members, from left, Temple Lentz, Gary Medvigy and Richard Rylander Jr., attend the hearing on an interim land-use ordinance in person July 5, 2022.
The public safety sales tax passed by 58.78 percent of voters in August goes into effect Jan. 1. On Tuesday, the Clark County Council unanimously approved adding the new tax to the county charter. The council also approved creating a new fund for collecting the revenue, rather than placing it in the general fund.
The 0.1 percent tax, or 1 cent for every $10 spent, is expected to bring in $12 million in tax revenues annually, with 60 percent going to the county government and 40 percent to local cities.
“The county must officially notify the Department of Revenue before Oct. 16 so they can start collecting the tax starting Jan. 1, 2023. The first disbursement that will be coming to the county will be in March 2023,” County Manager Kathleen Otto told the council.
Councilor Gary Medvigy said he wanted to ensure the tax is collected and spent in the “most straightforward and most transparent” manner possible.
The county council has previously said the tax revenue will be used to fund a dashboard and body-worn camera program for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. But the new tax will bring in more revenue than is needed, and the council has yet to decide on how to spend the remainder.
According to a staff report, the county expects to receive around $6 million in 2023 and then $7.2 million each year thereafter.
“I’m not in favor of raising taxes, generally,” Medvigy said. “But this is a need, and not just for body cams and dash cams but for salaries, improvements at the jail, administrative staff, our deputies – we need to get their salaries up to where they’re competitive. This will go a great step forward in giving us a little bit more flexibility in moving each of those challenges forward.”
But the first priority, Medvigy said, is to launch the body and dash camera program.
There are also limits set by state law, which requires one-third of all money received from the tax to be used solely for criminal justice purposes, fire protection purposes, or both. The remainder of the funding can be used at the discretion of the county council.
Medvigy said he appreciates the voters for recognizing and supporting the county’s public safety needs.
“We’re all supportive of law enforcement here,” added Medvigy, who is a retired major general and California superior court judge. “I haven’t heard a single word against law enforcement in any discussion that we’ve had at the county council.”
Councilor Richard Rylander Jr. said he was glad voters were asked to decide whether to fund the body and dash camera program, as well as other expenditures.
“I look forward to the fact that, I hope, it will end up protecting the police and the public and provide first-hand awareness and knowledge on what’s really going on and pulling things out of the shadows,” Rylander said.

Wema Bank Boosts Workplace Collaboration With Wemalympics 2022 – Guardian Nigeria https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/wema-bank-boosts-workplace-collaboration-with-wemalympics-2022-guardian-nigeria/
To ensure its employees enjoy a high level of healthy living, physical fitness, emotional balance and workplace collaboration, Wema Bank Plc has announced the 2022 edition of Wemalympics.
Wemalympics is an inter-regional competition, which serves as a testimonial to the bank’s commitment to raising the bar of teamwork, collaboration and work-life balance amongst its employees across regions.
A statement by the bank said there is a high premium on collaborative work culture, healthy competition and wholesome living for staff members, which justified the initiative.
“Since 2017, we have leveraged Wemalympics as a platform to underscore the importance of team spirit and foster collaboration among staff, within and beyond the workplace,” said Managing Director/CEO of Wema Bank, Ademola Adebise.
“Wemalympics aligns with our core values of ‘Think Play’ and ‘Think Partnership’, and beyond the games, the initiative now encourages bonding among staff families as kids will take part in this year’s event,” Adebise added.
This year’s edition, tagged, ‘Test Your Audacity’ is a call to the bank’s staff to remain driven and bold as they compete in the games, and even more so, in all aspects of their lives. At Wemalympics 2022, employees from different regions will compete for medals in sports including football, athletic events, table tennis, scrabble, chess, arm wrestling, electronic game among other sports.

Aaron Judge Sets AL Home Run Record: Yankees Slugger Hits No. 62 To Top Roger Maris, Break Single-Season Mark – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/aaron-judge-sets-al-home-run-record-yankees-slugger-hits-no-62-to-top-roger-maris-break-single-season-mark-cbs-sports/
There is a new American League single-season home run king. Tuesday evening New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge swatted his 62nd home run of 2022, breaking a tie with Roger Maris.
Maris of course hit 61 homers with the 1961 Yankees.
Judge hit his 62nd homer against Texas Rangers righty Jesus Tinoco in the first inning of Game 2 of their doubleheader at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Here is Judge’s milestone blast:
“It’s an incredible honor to get a chance to be associated with one of the Yankee greats, one of the baseball greats,” Judge told MLB.com after hitting his 61st homer. “To be enshrined with them forever, words can’t describe it. That’s one thing that’s so special about the Yankee organization, all the guys that came before us and paved the way, played the game the right way.”
Judge hit his 61st home run to tie Maris last Wednesday and he went 3 for 17 with five walks and seven strikeouts in the five games between Nos. 61 and 62. That includes going 1 for 5 in Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader, during which Judge slammed his helmet in frustration in the dugout after popping up a hanging slider.
The No. 62 ball landed in Section 31, Row 1, Seat 3, and the fan who caught it was led by security to a safe location where it could be authenticated by MLB. It’s unclear whether the ball will be turned over to the Yankees and Judge, or something else.
Here’s more on Judge becoming the AL’s single-season home run king.
Mom was there (but Maris Jr. wasn’t)
Judge’s mother, Patty, has attended every Yankees game since her son hit his 59th home run on Sept. 18. She went from Yankee Stadium to Toronto, back to Yankee Stadium, then to Texas for this final regular season series. And when Judge hit the milestone homer Tuesday, his mother was left speechless.
Not at the ballpark Tuesday: Roger Maris Jr. The predecessor’s son did not travel to Texas to watch Judge chase his 62nd homer, though he did attend New York’s previous 12 games as Judge chased home runs No. 60 and 61 (and 62). For what it’s worth, Maris Jr. has not been shy about saying he would consider the Judge the “clean” home run king once he hit No. 62.
“I think (Judge breaking the record) means a lot not just for me, but for a lot of people,” Maris Jr. said about Judge hitting his 61st home run. “He’s clean, he’s a Yankee, he plays the game the right way. I think he gives people a chance to look at somebody who should be revered for hitting 62 home runs and not just as a guy who did it in the American League. He should be revered for being the actual single-season home run champ. That’s really who he is if he hits 62 and I think that’s what needs to happen. I think baseball needs to look at the records and I think baseball should do something.”
The new AL home run leaderboard
As noted, Judge has now hit more home runs than any player in the American League’s 122-year history. Here is the new AL single-season home run leaderboard:
Aaron Judge, 2022 Yankees: 62 (and counting)
Roger Maris, 1961 Yankees: 61
Babe Ruth, 1927 Yankees: 60
Babe Ruth, 1921 Yankees: 59
Hank Greenberg, 1938 Tigers: 58
Jimmie Foxx, 1932 Athletics: 58
Only Barry Bonds (73 in 2001), Mark McGwire (70 in 1998 and 65 in 1999) and Sammy Sosa (66 in 1998, 64 in 2001 and 63 in 1999) have hit more home runs in a season than Judge, and they all played in the National League.
As for 2022, Judge is lapping the field in home runs. Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber is a distant second in baseball with 46 homers. No player has led baseball by as many as 16 home runs since 1932, when Foxx hit 58 and Ruth was the runner-up with 41. Simply put, this is one of the most dominant home run seasons in the history of the sport.
The Triple Crown watch
Oh by the way, Judge is also chasing a Triple Crown, and the focus now shifts there with No. 62 out of the way. Judge has massive leads in home runs and RBI, as you’d expect. He is chasing Twins infielder Luis Arraez for the batting tile. Here’s the batting race entering play Tuesday:
Luis Arraez, Twins: .315
Aaron Judge, Yankees: .311
Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox: .305
Several tied at .304
Catching Arraez will be a real challenge with only one game remaining in the regular season. Just the fact Judge is in the running for the Triple Crown — that he’s batting well over .300 while hitting 60-plus homers — is remarkable. Miguel Cabrera won baseball’s last Triple Crown in 2012.
No. 63?
Judge was removed from Tuesday’s game in the bottom of the second inning. He had started 55 consecutive games, a Ripkenian streak by the standards of the Yankees and their load management approach, and manager Aaron Boone recently said he hoped to give Judge a day off before the end of the season. He was even noncommittal about playing him in Game 2 of the doubleheader before Judge landed in the lineup.
The Yankees do have one game remaining, however, and Judge could pad his home run total in the season finale Wednesday. The Rangers are scheduled to start righty Glenn Otto, a former Yankees prospect who went to Texas in the Joey Gallo trade, in Wednesday’s game. Judge is 0 for 3 against Otto in his career.

BuzzAR Sets Up Its IRL Pop Up Metaverse Island Wide In Singapore – Yahoo Finance https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/buzzar-sets-up-its-irl-pop-up-metaverse-island-wide-in-singapore-yahoo-finance/
, /PRNewswire/ — After its acclaimed London debut, BuzzAR has rolled out its island-wide “Pop-Up Metaverse” in real life (IRL) at different spots across Singapore, including universities and premium locations such as Ten Square, Landmark of Good, Scape at Orchard Link, and Pick & Go at NUS.
Hundreds of people visit various spots in Singapore to experience the IRL Pop-Up Metaverse. The company’s immediate goal is to scale it to 100 Pop-Up Metaverse locations within weeks and bring more metaverse experiences to people in person.
BuzzAR partnered with various visionary companies to champion its World’s First Face-to-Avatar experience on big billboards. Students, adults, families, corporations, brands, and venue owners co-create the Pop-Up Metaverse experience and receive co-branding benefits.

The facility is now open to anyone who wants to get their avatar experience in person, and it has quickly gained popularity amongst all walks of life, with some tagging it as the “new age of family photo”.
BuzzAR, one of the local startups participating in the Season 4 IMDA/PDPC accelerator supported by Meta, is working on consent in the Metaverse. Users can provide hand gestures such as “thumb up” in front of the screen to get their avatar photo; its proprietary AI Computer Vision technology will create avatars in real-time IRL.
This proprietary technology does not require any use of mobile phones, users simply have to turn up at different locations. They will see their avatars superimposed on the display screen.
Following that, users can lift their mobile phone to snap a photo or scan a QR code to get their digital avatar photo. Further, users can customise their avatars using BuzzAR upcoming mobile app. BuzzAR team also will launch the “Buzz of the Week” campaign, in which the team curates and highlights the most innovative avatars at various partner locations.
Launching the core product IRL has attracted leading telco partners, airlines, malls, brands, and venue owners to join the mission of democratising the metaverse’s accessibility issues.
While millions of people go virtual every day, some do not know where to start and how to enter. BuzzAR is determined to close the gap by providing more real-life touchpoints for businesses to reach more people.
“This is the World’s First IRL innovation that will fast-track global users adoption and allow millions to enter the metaverse, BuzzAR user base is experiencing massive growth after the launch of the Pop Up Metaverse as people turn up offline and online to create their avatar,” said Bell Beh, co-founder of BuzzAR.
The company, which increased its revenue last fiscal year by eight times, continues to launch more IRL metaverse experiences as its unique differentiation.

Short Relief Bounce For Altcoins? If Crypto Marketcap Can Do This NewsBTC
Short Relief Bounce For Altcoins? If Crypto Marketcap Can Do This – NewsBTC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/short-relief-bounce-for-altcoins-if-crypto-marketcap-can-do-this-newsbtc/
Cryptocurrency market capitalization could be ready to break out from the downtrend as price gears up for a short-term recovery creating more bullish sentiment for the altcoins.
Cryptocurrency market capitalization looks strong on both low and high timeframes.
Cryptocurrency market capitalization prepares for a breakout on the daily timeframe after forming a descending triangle.
The Crypto Marketcap had had a tough time regaining its hype when the crypto market cap was at its peak of over $2.8 trillion, with most crypto assets performing at their best. The crypto market capitalization also called the crypto market cap, takes in market data from a range of cryptocurrencies — including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), and EOSIO network (EOS) — to provide a fuller, real-time picture of how the crypto asset sector is performing.
Crypto Market Capitalization Price Analysis On The Weekly Chart
Weekly Total Market Cap Price Chart | Source: On Tradingview.com
The new month has been a relief for most crypto projects, with altcoins such as BTC, ETH, and even XRP, with the market cap, continues to look promising ahead of a major rally.
With the market having a rally to an all-time of over $2.9 trillion, this positively impacted the price of altcoins and major assets as the market found itself in a blooming phase with so much euphoria.
After hitting over $2.9 trillion market cap, the price declined from that region, acting as resistance or blown-off top as the price struggles to regain its form. It dropped to a region of $774 billion market cap seeing a huge sell-off in assets across the crypto market.
The market cap bounced from its weekly low of $774 billion as the price rallied to a region of $1.17 before facing resistance to breaking above this region as the price retraced to $850 billion as the price formed a good support zone with what seemed to be a key demand zone for buy orders across the market.
In recent weeks, the price of assets in the crypto market has not shown some strength as prices rally, showing some glimpses of relief bounce.
Weekly resistance for the price of crypto market cap – $1.2T.
Weekly support for the price of crypto market cap – $850T.

The crypto market cap is currently trading at $930 billion, with the price holding above the 8 and 20-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) after breaking through resistance in this region.
If the market cap maintains its structure, we could see more relief rallies for all most crypto assets.

US Navys Latest And Most Advanced Aircraft Carrier Deploys For First Time CNN
US Navy’s Latest And Most Advanced Aircraft Carrier Deploys For First Time – CNN https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-navys-latest-and-most-advanced-aircraft-carrier-deploys-for-first-time-cnn/
Petty Officer 2nd Class Anderson/US Navy
CNN —
The US Navy’s newest and most advanced aircraft carrier left on its first deployment Tuesday from Norfolk, Virginia, designed to put the ship through its paces and exercise with allies in North America and Europe.
The USS Gerald Ford is the first new aircraft carrier designed in “over 40 years,” according to the US Navy. The carrier’s construction formally began in November 2009 and it was commissioned in 2017 by former President Donald Trump, according to a US Navy release.
The ship is the first Ford-class aircraft carrier. The Navy has begun construction on the next two Ford-class carriers, the USS Kennedy and the USS Enterprise.
The aircraft carrier has new, advanced technology including “nearly three times the amount of electrical power,” compared to the Nimitz-class carriers and uses the electromagnetic aircraft launch system, or EMALS, according to the Navy.
The EMALS system uses electric power to launch aircraft off the vessel instead of the previous steam catapult system. The system puts less stress on the aircraft as they are launched from the carrier and will allow for less time between launches, a Navy official said.
The carrier also has dual band radar, which is a more advanced radar system. It is the only forward-class carrier that will have this kind of radar, the official said.
The USS Gerald Ford and the carrier strike group will operate with allies and partners in both the 2nd and 6th fleet areas of responsibility in the Atlantic Ocean and in the Mediterranean Sea, a US Navy official said. The deployment will be shorter than a standard six-month deployment, the official added.
“This deployment is an opportunity to push the ball further down the field and demonstrate the advantage that Ford and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8 bring to the future of naval aviation, to the region and to our allies and partners,” Carrier Strike Group 12 Commander Rear Adm. Gregory Huffman said in a statement.
The deployment will involve “approximately 9,000 personnel from nine nations, 20 ships and 60 aircraft,” a US Navy release said. The nations participating in the exercise include the US, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden, the release added.
While the USS Gerald Ford deployed Tuesday, the other ships in the carrier strike group will leave to join the Ford on Wednesday, a second Navy official said. This is common for these deployments.
Former Mine Sites In Southwest Virginia To Be Labs For Energy Technology Testbed Cardinal News
Former Mine Sites In Southwest Virginia To Be Labs For Energy Technology Testbed – Cardinal News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/former-mine-sites-in-southwest-virginia-to-be-labs-for-energy-technology-testbed-cardinal-news/
A first-of-its-kind “energy technology testbed” that will turn some of the 100,000 acres of former coal mining sites in Southwest Virginia into laboratories to promote energy innovation will be developed, Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced Tuesday.
“The Energy DELTA Lab delivers on our vision to define Virginia as a force in energy innovation,” Youngkin said in a news release. “No other project like it exists in the United States. With this energy testbed, we see a commitment to transformation, encouragement for startup enterprises and support for the development of promising careers in exciting new fields.”
The announcement came the day after the governor rolled out a new energy plan that called for innovation in energy technologies. The plan mentioned the Energy DELTA project.
The initial site will be near the town of Pound in Wise County on property owned by the Cumberland Forest Limited Partnership and managed by the Nature Conservancy.
The site will be used as a lab for advanced solar and energy storage, according to Will Payne, managing partner of Coalfield Strategies, the firm leading business development for the Energy DELTA Lab and InvestSWVA.
The first site will likely not be up and running for at least two years, he said.
A second site, also in Wise County, will be announced later this month, he added.
“We currently have a number of projects in the due diligence phase related to both sites worth over a billion dollars,” Payne said Tuesday.
Plans call for possible additional sites around the region.
DELTA, which stands for discovery, education, learning and technology accelerator, has been four years in the making. It is a collaborative effort by the Virginia Department of Energy, the Southwest Virginia Energy Research and Development Authority, and its business development partner InvestSWVA.
The DELTA initiative was developed through a $975,000 grant from the federal Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program, which supports economic efforts by regions impacted by the downtown in the coal industry.
Payne said DELTA will serve as a hub between landowners, prospects, utilities and broadband companies. He emphasized that the purpose of the effort is not just research and development, but job creation and economic development.
He added that the land and its assets above and below the ground will be the lab – there will not be a traditional lab or classroom involved.
Mike Quillen, who founded and was CEO of Alpha Natural Resources, is chair of the Energy DELTA Lab and the Southwest Virginia Energy Research and Development Authority.
“The Energy DELTA Lab is a concept becoming reality in the most logical place for it to happen,” Quillen said. “Our work in being part of the global energy story is entering another chapter, encouraging a fresh look at energy production and what it means – and requires – to enjoy a successful career in the industry.
Payne called Quillen the “godfather of Southwest Virginia,” and said he lends credibility to the project.
The initial concept for the project was designed by Michael Karmis, former director of the Virginia Center for Coal and Energy Research, based on what Germany has done with its mine sites, Payne said.
Further study of the concept was led by InvestSWVA and the LENOWISCO Planning District Commission through grants from the GO Virginia One Council and the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
The region is ideal for research and development of energy technologies because in addition to the former coal mining sites, it has more than 9,000 gas wells, a number of mine cavities and water supplies, diverse terrain, mineral and underground resources, the release states.
“The Energy DELTA Lab’s focus on leveraging legacy energy assets to develop new and innovate energy technologies can only happen in Southwest Virginia” Payne said. “This is just the beginning of the work we must do together to deliver on our vision to build a new, diversified economy in the region. And, with the Energy DELTA Lab as our vehicle, we can define Virginia as a hub of energy innovation in America.”
The energy technologies mentioned include hydrogen, mine-based geothermal, innovative solar generation and advanced energy storage, including pumped-storage hydro. Also mentioned were small modular nuclear reactors, one of which the governor said Monday he hopes to deploy in Southwest Virginia over the next 10 years.

Vancouver Traveller Got Sick From Drinking Alcohol In Bali Vancouver Is Awesome
Vancouver Traveller Got Sick From Drinking Alcohol In Bali – Vancouver Is Awesome https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/vancouver-traveller-got-sick-from-drinking-alcohol-in-bali-vancouver-is-awesome/
A Vancouver couple had a nightmare experience in Bali after they drank alcohol that was laced with methanol.
Twenty-five-year-old Krauzby Rea and his fiancée, 24-year-old Amanda Mawdsley, travelled to the Indonesian province for a vacation in September. The couple had drinks at a resort with 4.5-star reviews and were trying to be careful about what they consumed.
Rea describes himself as an experienced traveller; he says always tries to gather safety advice for the places he’s going to. But he’d never heard of anyone experiencing methanol poisoning — particularly in a nice resort.
On their second night in Bali on Sept. 28, the couple each ordered a cocktail made with gin. They finished the drinks quickly because they wanted to watch a performance outside of the restaurant area of the resort.
“The performance lasted about 15 minutes and immediately after it ended I was in the bathroom violently puking,” Rea tells Vancouver Is Awesome.
While he was feeling terrible, Rea brushed it off at first; he thought he might have a bad case of what some travellers refer to as “Bali belly”: an upset stomach that travellers often get, which is caused by consuming foods, spices, and other things that aren’t part of their regular diet.
After continuing to feel awful, Rea started looking into his condition online. He found a Facebook group entitled “Just Don’t Drink Spirits In Bali” that described his symptoms and why he might be feeling them: methanol poisoning.
Horrified, the Canadian traveller contacted the group’s administrator, Simon, for more information on how he could prevent his symptoms from worsening. While there are a host of negative reactions to consuming methanol, the most severe are blindness and death, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Simon’s advice might sound shocking, but Rea says it likely saved his life and his eyesight: drink more alcohol.
Bali vacation turns into a nightmare for Vancouver couple
The following day the couple each drank several beers in an effort to stop or delay the progression of the methanol poisoning. Mawdsley also had some negative symptoms after she consumed the drink, but they were significantly milder. Still, she says she drank the alcohol out of an abundance of caution because they weren’t sure what had made her sick.
While most people would suggest visiting a hospital before hitting the bottle, the couple wasn’t offered a great deal of help from any of the local medical facilities.
“I ended up going to the hospital because I was in really rough shape,” he explains. “The first hospital didn’t treat me because they weren’t able to test or treat methanol poisoning.”
Another hospital about an hour away also denied treating Rea for methanol poisoning, he says.
While the second hospital provided him with IV fluids, vitamins, and nausea medication, Rea was very worried about his vision. Initially, he felt “completely drunk” halfway through consuming the poisoned drink. He felt drunk for roughly 15 hours after he ingested it but gradually started to feel sober, except for his eyesight.
Rea describes his eyes feeling sore and having a headache, saying the pain had “gotten progressively worse.”
The Vancouver couple flew to Seattle on Sunday night and drove back home, cutting their vacation short by about 10 days. An ophthalmologist told Rea that his eyes look completely fine but they will perform some follow-up tests.
While they are both thankful they figured out what was wrong via the Facebook group, Rea says the experience was terrifying.
“When I was going from the first hospital to the second one, I thought like, that was ‘it.’ Like I didn’t make it. I was feeling hopeless. I was blacking out in the vehicle, losing consciousness a lot,” he describes.
“And it was to the point where I wrote a goodbye letter on my phone to send people…it was a close call, for sure.”
While Rea’s experience was deeply traumatic, he is far from alone. In fact, instances like his aren’t uncommon, with numerous people sharing their experiences of methanol poisoning online.
Tragically, many people have died from ingesting tainted alcohol.
Methanol poisoning incidents around the world
In a recent story, a 31-year-old Aussie traveller was photographed in a hospital bed with a bottle of Bacardi, attempting to reverse the effects of methanol poisoning.
Between February 23 and May 2, 2020, there were a staggering 5,876 hospitalizations and at least 800 deaths as a result of a contaminated alcohol supply, according to National Geographic.
Multiple cases have also been reported in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and even the United States.

These regions have the most untapped real estate potential
Updated 2 hrs ago
Some regions of the U.S. have had hotter housing markets than others, but inflation and higher interest rates have caused a general cooling-off trend in real estate prices. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, homebuilders primarily focused on the South due to relatively cheap land, fewer zoning restrictions, and growing demand for housing. However, changes in zoning laws and new economic developments in other regions may draw developers’ focus away from the South.
As trends shift in new housing construction, there is another area in the housing market that shows untapped value in different regions: existing homes. To better understand where homeowners may have hidden real estate value, Realm compared different areas of the country by evaluating possible projects a house could complete, the return on investment associated with these projects, and home values.
Looking at more than 88 million single-family homes as of September 2022 data, the research also compares regions by looking at current and potential home value as well as current and buildable square footage. The remaining buildable square feet is calculated by looking at zoning laws and current square feet for each property to determine how much additional space could be added. (Note that home values change based on a number of factors, so these numbers may be subject to changes.)

The National Association of Realtors found that sales of houses are decreasing. In its Pending Home Sales Index released on Aug. 24, all of the country’s regions experienced double-digit decreases in the percentage of contract signings compared to the prior year. Housing inventory is on the rise, up 27% from last year. With homes taking longer to sell than in 2021 and interest rates on the rise, many would-be sellers are staying put.
Home builders are also curbing their projects due to persistent pandemic-related supply chain issues that have increased building costs to the point where there aren’t enough buyers for new homes.
For some homeowners, this has made it more appealing to add value to their existing homes rather than face the uncertainty of the housing market.

Over 38% of residents live in the South, nearly 15% more than in the West, which is the next largest region in the country. Population growth is particularly high in Texas and Florida, and while people often flock there for warmer weather, these states are known for lower taxes and less regulation.
Construction has also increased in the South. According to the Census Bureau, in 2021, over 917,000 housing permits were issued in the region, accounting for over half of all permits issued in the country. This year, although inflation and higher mortgage interest rates are cooling off the market, the South’s overall housing permits are still up 1.2%, about the same as the Midwest. Meanwhile, the Northeast and West saw negative growth of -3.1% and -1.4%, respectively.

In terms of population, the South’s gain has been the Midwest’s loss. From 2010 to 2020, the top four counties in terms of population loss all came from this region.
However, several states in this region are gaining recognition as top places to do business, including Minnesota, Ohio, and Michigan, which could help reverse this trend. Ohio recently broke ground on a $20 billion Intel semiconductor manufacturing plant near Columbus, which will require 7,000 workers to build and employ 3,000 when it’s completed in 2025. Its presence is having a trickle-down effect as Intel suppliers aim to set up in the area as well.
Some Midwest cities are showing resilience as the housing market slows down. Indianapolis is one that continues to be a target for buyers looking for affordability.

The Northeast has traditionally been an expensive real estate market. In fact, Massachusetts ranks third in the nation in terms of how much it costs to buy a home and it struggles to keep up with housing demand.
However, change may be coming, as a new zoning law will mandate zones for multi-family housing in 175 communities serviced by Boston’s public transportation system. This law could spur development in this area.
Vermont has also experienced growth during the pandemic: More people moved to Vermont than to any other state, according to a 2021 United Van Lines survey.

The real estate market on the West Coast has generally been high for a number of reasons. High-paying jobs in the tech industry have encouraged people to relocate there, and a shortage in housing has driven up prices. Population-dense areas such as San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle are already highly developed, making building on new land remarkably expensive. In California, Proposition 13 and bureaucratic zoning laws also disincentivize new housing development.
In recent years, mountain-area states have seen a boom as West Coasters move further inland to find more affordable real estate. Utah is one example of this boom, as it boasts strong job growth and low state and local taxes. Meanwhile, in housing-crunched California, new legislation may loosen some of the historic building restrictions, such as allowing some environmental reviews to be bypassed when building up to 10 homes in certain housing zones. And similar to a law passed in Oregon in 2019, California’s Senate Bill 9 permits property owners to build additional housing units on land zoned for single-family homes, which would allow homeowners to collect rent and increase their property value.

Chess Grandmaster Hans Niemann Cheated more Than 100 Times New Report Alleges USA TODAY
Chess Grandmaster Hans Niemann Cheated ‘more Than 100 Times,’ New Report Alleges – USA TODAY https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/chess-grandmaster-hans-niemann-cheated-more-than-100-times-new-report-alleges-usa-today/
American chess grandmaster Hans Niemann admitted to cheating two times in his career after World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen publicly accused him last week. But an investigation conducted by Chess.com found that Niemann has cheated more than 100 times.
An internal report obtained by The Wall Street Journal says Niemann, 19, was banned from the online chess platform for an unidentified period of time after he confessed to receiving illegal assistance in more than 100 online games, including chess matches for prize money, as recently as 2020.
Niemann, ranked No. 40 in the world, is in the midst of a meteoric rise. His Elo rating, which measures the strength of a chess player relative to his peers, has increased by 350 points in a span of four years.
The Chess.com report, however, concluded there are “unusual patterns in Hans’ path as a player.” Although Chess.com doesn’t typically track cheating in over-the-board games, referring to in-person chess matches, the online platform said Niemann’s performance at certain events “merit further investigation based on the data.”
WHAT WE KNOW: How a cheating scandal has rocked the world of chess

The cheating scandal sparked last month at the Sinquefield Cup in St. Louis after Niemann defeated Carlsen, the five-time defending world champion, with black pieces, which is a distinct disadvantage in competitive chess. In a unprecedented move, Carlsen abruptly withdrew from the tournament afterwards.
Two weeks later, when Carlsen and Niemann met again in competition at a separate online tournament, Carlsen played just one move before resigning in protest.
Carlsen directly accused Niemann of cheating on Sept. 26, writing on Twitter: “I believe that Niemann has cheated more—and more recently—than he has publicly admitted.”
Niemann admitted to cheating on two separate occasions earlier in his career. During an interview with the St. Louis Chess Club, he said his friend used a chess computer, more commonly referred to as an engine, to feed him the best moves in an Chess.com online tournament for prize money when he was 12. Then, when he was 16, Niemann said he cheated in lower-level games to improve his rating, because he wanted to play tougher opponents.
Niemann claimed he’s “never cheated in an over-the-board game,” like the one he played against Carlsen in St. Louis. But the report says Niemann’s postgame commentary of his moves against Carlsen appeared “to be at odds with the level of preparation that Hans claimed was at play in the game and the level of analysis needed to defeat the World Chess Champion.”
The Chess.com report accuses Niemann of “blatant cheating” to improve his rating, most recently at age 17, which led to his account being closed down. Niemann confessed to the widespread cheating in a 2020 call with Danny Rensch, the online platform’s chief chess officer, the report adds, and he was subsequently banned from the Chess.com Global Championship’s million-dollar prize event.
“We are prepared to present strong statistical evidence that confirm each of those cases above, as well as clear ‘toggling’ vs ‘non-toggling’ evidence, where you perform much better while toggling to a different screen during your moves,” Rensch wrote.
Although Chess.com typically handles all bans privately, the report says the platform felt “compelled to share” after Niemann publicly questioned his ban from its Global Championship. It’s worth noting that Chess.com is buying Carlsen’s Play Magnus app.

Gensokishi, the Japanese web3 MMORPG based on the Nintendo and Playstation 4 game Elemental Knights, was up 26% in September amid a rebrand. The project has repositioned itself as the GENSO metaverse, with the game now being a part of a larger metaverse. The native token, MV, hit a low of $0.20 on Sept. 19 before soaring to $0.26 on Oct. 2.
The project had a successful closed beta earlier in the year and is ramping after the second beta launch on Sept. 30. Players will be able to convert mROND earned during the open beta into ROND at the end of the event. mROND is the in-game token, an off-chain token created to optimize game performance. The maximum mROND that can be withdrawn will be 700,000 mROND.
Further, the ROND token has been listed on Bybit, the first major exchange to list the token. A source familiar with the matter stated that it is a “milestone for us.”
CryptoSlate spoke to the GENSO team, who stated that the listing laid the foundation for the next stage of GENSO’s evolution.,
“The time has finally come to introduce the worldview we had originally planned. Gensokishi is not just a game. The game is only a part of the bigger picture – The Genso Metaworld.”
The concept of the GENSO metaverse is to bring “together the world’s leading IPs, brands, and worldviews from Japan and around the world,” according to the GENSO team.
Elemental Knights, the game upon which Gensokishi is based, has been in development for 14 years. A person familiar with the matter told CryptoSlate,
“The development company has been in the sector for over 20 years and therefore has connections with Japanese IPs throughout!”
Anticipation over whether a new IP may be announced as a part of the GENSO metaverse may be creating buy pressure for the token. The GENSO Discord has received the rebrand well with positive feedback and increased activity. No information regarding future partnerships has been released.

I am a big fan of the movie series, “Shrek”. Shrek is a very large, green, ogre. One could say it is a combination of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ meets ‘Rupunzel’ with a little bit of fairy-tale Matrix Sci-fi thrown in for action and excitement.
In the first movie we find Shrek living alone in the swamp lands. We learn early on that although he looks big and scary with quite an ominous roar, underneath it all he is sensitive and only wants to be accepted for who he is. He basically keeps to himself living relatively secluded but still the townspeople organize Ogre hunts. They have a preconceived idea, drawn from their own judgements and not based on any interaction with Shrek himself.
In one scene, the townspeople, thinking they have snuck up on Shrek, while he is sitting in his house, are stunned in place, when Shrek stealthily ambushes them from behind and says, ‘Looking for me?’. The townspeople, with eyes as big as a deer in headlights, are frozen with fear. Then, the ogre lets out a booming roar. The paralyzing fear in their eyes spreads to their whole bodies. Wanting to move their panic has glued them in place. After a dramatic pause, Shrek playfully says, ‘This is part when you run’. The towns people then do their best to ecape in a frenzy and we see Shrek with a satisfying smile on his face. The viewer is led to understand that Shrek is content with his life and gets a little kick out of living up to the towns people’s presumption that he is a force to be reckoned with.
As the story of Shrek’s life unfolds, he rescues a princess, gets married and has children. His life is transformed. In Shrek 4, at a noisy, chaotic birthday party for his toddler daughter we see Shrek bemoaning his current life circumstances. He is romanticizing his younger life. He wants just one day of his exciting but lonely life back.
Enter Rumpelstiltskin. Who offers Shrek a magical deal that promises to restore him to exactly what he was. Rumple says “In order to have one day the way things used to be, you, Shrek, have to give me one day of your past.” Shrek has no idea what day to pick. Rumple suggests, “Why don’t you pick a day from when you were a little baby, when you don’t remember anything anyway.” Shrek agrees and signs the magical contract.
When Shrek wakes up in his conjured new past life he comes to understand that Rumple has taken the day of his birth, he realizes that his entire life did not happen because he was never born.
Rescuing his princess, marrying her, having children, meeting his best friend Donkey…. None of these things happened.
He yells at himself saying, “What have I done”? I just wanted one day my old happy life.
Many of us chase this kind of happy by thinking that if I had this, if I had that I would be happy. This search for happiness is the crux of our problem.
In an essay, Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, alav hashalom writes, “Happiness, said Aristotle, is the ultimate goal at which all humans aim. But in Judaism it is not necessarily so. Happiness is a high value. Ashrei, the closest Hebrew word to happiness, is the first word of the book of Psalms. We say the prayer known as Ashrei three times each day. We can surely endorse the phrase in the American Declaration of Independence that among the inalienable rights of humankind are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
He continues, “But Ashrei is not the central value of the Hebrew Bible. Occurring almost ten times as frequently is the word simcha, joy. It is one of the fundamental themes of Deuteronomy as a book. The root s-m-ch appears only once in each of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers, but no less than twelve times in Deuteronomy. It lies at the heart of the Mosaic vision of life in the land of Israel. That is where we serve God with joy.
So what is the difference between Happiness and Joy? I have contemplated this topic for many years and have come to understand that Happiness is a pursuit and joy is a knowing.
Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks has more to say on the subject, he writes “Happiness is a solid and joy is a liquid.” Meaning happiness is linked to time and Joy is linked to space. Time has constraints, it has a beginning and an end. Space is expansive, it is infinite.
We all know that poverty is not a Jewish value. For the most part we are a successful people who appreciate things of quality in the areas of entertainment culinary delights and possessions. But think about the 2nd automobile you owned. This was the one that you saved up for and carefully selected. You were so happy driving off the car lot until a little time passed and you began thinking about the next car you would purchase. One that was better then the one you have.
The happiness you felt was for an object it was fleeting because the object was material and would get old and therefore be subject to improved technology and newer gadgets. It was linked to a marketing ploy that causes us to believe that something new and improved will lead us down the road to happiness.
I can experience happiness after enjoying a delectable meal prepared by one of the top chefs in New York City only to find myself, a few hours later, impatient for my next meal because my body is signaling the need for more food energy.
Happiness is fleeting by it’s very nature. It is linked to the outside which is ever changing. We search, we pursue happiness in so many ways. But when we look for happiness in these ways we may feel pleased momentarily but more often than not we are left wanting more.
In an article from Unpacked for Educators a Jewish resource site we read, “We tend to pursue happiness by trying to be wealthier or materialistic; by contrast, joy is the ability to celebrate life with security, to enjoy the presence of others, and to care for and give joy to others.
Rabbi Israel Salanter once wrote that to be a good Jew one has to have every human quality and its opposite. The Torah does not consecrate prohibition; it offers the full range of human emotion and behavior. There is “a time to cry and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance” (Ecclesiastes 3:4). Correct behavior consists of when one does all these acts and how.
Rabbi Salanter continues, “As a harvest festival, Sukkot incorporates frank recognition and celebration of material goods. Jewish tradition sees material possessions as a necessary but not sufficient basis for spiritual fulfillment. As Maimonides writes: “The general purpose of the Torah is twofold: the well-being of the soul and the well-being of the body. The well-being of the soul is ranked first but … the well-being of the body comes first.” The well-being of the soul is more important, but the well-being of the body comes first, for it is the context for spiritual development. Thus, appreciation and enjoyment of material things is a legitimate spiritual concern. It all depends on how it is done. Prosperity frees the individual for personal development; but worshiped or made absolute, wealth disrupts personal growth.
We are here as a community to celebrate and contemplate during these High Holy days. We have an opportunity that is set aside by time. Let us give ourselves the space to engage in the quintessential task at hand. The task of engaging with the most-high and reveling in a sense of what is truly awesome.
It is through this cognitive awareness we will reach an inner sense of joy that will last us throughout the coming year.

Dogecoin Price Predictions Now Bullish As Elon Musk Twitter Takeover Back On? – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/dogecoin-price-predictions-now-bullish-as-elon-musk-twitter-takeover-back-on-cryptonews/
The Dogecoin price is up almost 9% today as Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition is back on the table. Will Dogecoin recover to its 2021 highs though?
Latest Elon Musk SEC Filing
A letter sent to Twitter’s lawyers from ‘the Musk parties’ on the sec.gov website states:
Gentlemen: On behalf of X Holdings I, Inc., X Holdings II, Inc. and Elon R. Musk (the “Musk Parties”), we write to notify you that the Musk Parties intend to proceed to closing of the transaction contemplated by the April 25, 2022 Merger Agreement.
Twitter shares have also pumped on the news, more so than DOGE – could cryptocurrency be lagging behind stocks, and the DOGE price be set to rise higher?
The Twitter share price closed the Tuesday session up 22%, at $52.05. Elon Musk is set to buy Twitter at $54.20 per share, for $44 billion.
Twitter Investor Relations (@TwitterIR) has today confirmed the deal:
Dogecoin Price Prediction
Dogecoin now is trading at around $0.065, having hit an intraday high of just over $0.066 at press time.
Dogecoin is still down approximately 92% from its all time high of $0.74 hit shortly before Elon Musk appeared on Saturday Night Live to discuss the popular meme coin, in May 2021.
DogeCoin price history – monthly chart via Binance
Despite that 18 month bear market, Dogecoin still commands a $8.7 billion market capitalization, the largest meme token in the crypto market.
Its closest competitor Shiba Inu has a market cap of $6.3 billion, and new meme coin Tamadoge recently rose 1,870% from its token presale to hit an over $150 million market cap, overtaking Baby Doge Coin and Dogelon Mars.
With its high market cap, and being an inflationary asset, Dogecoin may struggle to recover. Every Elon Musk tweet or news that previously caused a Dogecoin price pump – such as Tesla accepting DOGE for merchandise purchases, and later SpaceX – has fully retraced.
Conservative investors may wish to wait to see if this latest Dogecoin price rally can really spark a new uptrend.
Fom a technical analysis standpoint, that would mean higher lows and higher highs being printed on a high-timeframe (HTF) chart. On the weekly chart, if the DOGE price can start closing candles above $0.089, the market structure would then flip bullish.
Notably one of the best crypto traders on Twitter, TraderSZ, opened a long position targetting that level last week when the Dogecoin price was $0.06.
Is Dogecoin a Good Investment?
From a macro standpoint, little indicates a long term price reversal yet even with the weekly candle up 11.6%. TraderSZ tends to take short term trades within a sideways range.
Every short term Dogecoin pump has been an opportunity for high R:R short in 2022 – even down 92%, DOGE has little utility and an infinite supply so has room to keep declining.
Another noted trader Altcoin Sherpa is now considering a Dogecoin short from the current levels, since this latest Elon Musk related move.
As Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev tweeted earlier this year, Dogecoin fails to compete with a standard debit card transaction as a means of exchange and payment.
One speculation among Dogecoin holders is that once Elon Musk owns Twitter, DOGE could become the social media platform’s ‘native currency’ – however the billionaire is yet to lay out any roadmap for that.
Read our full Dogecoin price prediction post for a closer look at the Dogecoin price history, more TA and fundamental analysis, and some possible bullish forecasts.
Also see our recent Tamadoge price prediction, a potential ‘Dogecoin killer’ which is deflationary with a low fixed supply and strong growth potential, highlighted yesterday in Cointelegraph.

LONDON — The captain of the world champion United States women’s national soccer team said Tuesday that any owner or executive implicated in a damning report on abuse in women’s soccer “should be gone” from the sport. That group of people, the captain, Becky Sauerbrunn, made clear, includes the owner and several top executives of her own club team, the Portland Thorns.
“You have failed in your stewardship,” Sauerbrunn said of soccer leaders and executives whose behavior was detailed in a scathing report, released Monday, that revealed years of abuse in American women’s soccer. “And it’s my opinion that every owner and executive and U.S. Soccer official who has repeatedly failed the players, and failed to protect the players, who have hidden behind legalities, and who have not participated fully in these investigations, should be gone.”
As she was speaking, the Thorns’ owner, Merritt Paulson, released a statement in which he said he was “removing myself effective today” from the team’s decision-making. But Paulson gave no indication that he planned to sell the team in Portland, Ore., a stance that, for the moment, put him directly at odds with Sauerbrunn, one of his club’s most decorated and popular players.
Asked to clarify if her remarks included Paulson, Sauerbrunn, citing specific accusations against the owner and the Thorns but not speaking his name, left little doubt that Paulson was among the targets of her comments.
“It includes everyone that has continued to fail the players time and time again,” she said of those who should be ostracized from soccer.
Paulson and at least two team executives were accused in a report compiled by the former Justice Department official Sally Q. Yates of hiding their knowledge of abuse by a former Thorns coach; of dismissing the claims of a player who raised such concerns; and of staying silent while the coach moved from team to team in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Shortly after Paulson’s announcement, Arnim Whisler, the owner of the Chicago Red Stars, said he would turn over control and step away from the N.W.S.L.’s board of governors, but did not indicate he would sell the team.
According to the report, Whisler received complaints about Rory Dames, the team’s coach, as early as 2013 and the next year dismissed concern that Dames had “created a hostile environment” as national team players wanting “this league to shut down.” The report also revealed that Dames, who also coached a youth club, fostered a “sexualized team environment,” spoke to youth players about their sex lives and had sexual relationships with multiple players.
Dames resigned from the Red Stars last year as the Washington Post prepared a report about his behavior.
“I am so deeply sorry for what our players experienced during their time spent in Chicago,” Whisler said in a statement. “Our organization is committed to rebuilding trust and respect among players and staff towards our league and club, and I recognize that my current presence is a distraction.”
Sauerbrunn and her teammate Alana Cook, who spoke on the same call on Tuesday evening, were unsparing in their view that strong action, including the forced sale of teams and the firing of officials known to have hidden or abetted the abuse of women, was overdue.
“I think it’s time,” Sauerbrunn said, “for those that are in authority and leadership positions to start holding each other accountable, and asking for the change that needs to happen.”
Cook, like Sauerbrunn, said that with players having come forward to reveal and document years of abuse, the responsibility to remove problematic coaches, executives and owners lay with the sport’s leadership.
“For so long it’s been on the players to speak out,” Cook said. “It shouldn’t be on us anymore.”
Sauerbrunn and Cook spoke in London, where the United States will play the European champion England in an exhibition game Friday night. Both players, and their coach, Vlatko Andonovski, said the team was reeling from the revelations in the Yates report, and struggling to focus on Friday’s game.
“The players are not doing well,” Sauerbrunn said. “We are horrified and heartbroken and frustrated and exhausted and really, really angry.”
Andonovski said that he and his staff were respecting that each player was processing the report differently, and that all have been given room to do that. Allowances have been made, he said, for players to skip meetings, training sessions and even Friday’s game.
Paulson’s statement was his first public comment since the release of the report. He said in the statement that two other top Thorns executives whose personal and professional behavior was criticized in the report, the president of soccer Gavin Wilkinson and the team’s president of business Mike Golub, would also step aside while a separate investigation is conducted by the N.W.S.L. and its players’ union.
But Paulson did not say whether he planned to sell the team, and Sauerbrunn and Cook along with other players quickly signaled that stopping short of a complete exit would be inadequate.
“I think that a lot of trust has been broken,” Sauerbrunn said. She added, “At the end of the day, if people continue to fail the players, and they don’t comply with anything that gets asked of them in these reports and gets implemented in these reports, they need to be gone gone.”
Tiny Technology Makes A Big Impact In Cancer Surgery News NSW Health
Tiny Technology Makes A Big Impact In Cancer Surgery – News – NSW Health https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tiny-technology-makes-a-big-impact-in-cancer-surgery-news-nsw-health/
A tiny seed, no bigger than a grain of rice, is having a big impact on breast cancer care for patients in Murrumbidgee.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District is the first District in NSW to introduce Magseed – a tiny, stainless steel “seed” that is implanted in a cancerous breast tumour to mark its location for surgery.
Minister for Regional Health Bronnie Taylor said the successful implementation of this new technology is a testament to the quality of medical care available in rural and regional NSW.
“We have some of the finest surgeons and medical professionals in Australia choosing to work in regional NSW. I am so proud that the first Local Health District in NSW to provide this exciting, new and life-saving technology is a regional one,” Mrs Taylor said.
Griffith surgeon Dr Kate FitzGerald said she was keen to see the Magseeds available for public patients in NSW, after first using the technology and seeing the difference it made in Scotland.
“The thin wires, which usually had to be placed the day of surgery, needed to be placed by a radiologist and then taped to the patient’s breast until they were in the operating room,” Dr FitzGerald said.
“With the seed I have more flexibility around where I make the incision. As well as getting the best result as far as removing the cancer, I can also make it look as nice as possible.”
Mrs Taylor thanked the Griffith Breast Cancer Support Group for a substantial donation towards the purchase of the Magseed technology and said the group’s support has been instrumental in making the technology available locally.

Travelers Prioritizing Solid Customer Service TravelPulse
Travelers Prioritizing Solid Customer Service – TravelPulse https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/travelers-prioritizing-solid-customer-service-travelpulse/
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the tourism GDP in Latin America reports a regional increase of 48.2 percent in 2021, so it is expected to be a great year of recovery.
One of the critical areas that every holiday season puts tourism service providers to the test is excellent customer service, as it is a determining factor in building customer loyalty.
Trending Now
According to Zendesk’s CX Trends 2022 study, quality customer service personnel play an increasingly important role in organizations. After all, 61 percent of customers reveal that they would switch to a competitor after just one bad experience, while 76 percent indicate that they would leave if they had two negative experiences.
This makes perfect sense, as solid customer service is not just about finding a quick solution to any customer problem but about building a long-term relationship.
Serving Customers With Quality
Surprisingly, according to the study, 54 percent of respondents believe that serving customers with quality is the last thing on the minds of most of the companies they buy from. At the same time, 68 percent believe that most companies should improve the training of their agents who are in contact with consumers and provide good customer service.
So, if you are thinking of taking a well-deserved rest period this holiday season, consider these simple tips for identifying from your first interaction if the tourism services company you have contacted has customer experience (CX) among its priorities.
The service provider should offer you different options to have a conversation and serve you better.
This will help you make your vacation memorable when booking a room, tour, rental car or buying a plane ticket.
When you contact the company of your choice to ask for information or make a reservation, check that they have several options to do so and that you are the one who selects the one that suits you best and not that which the service provider imposes on you. That is to say, if you can choose between a phone call, a conversation on WhatsApp, or a chat, you are off to a good start.
The service provider should offer you different options to have a conversation and serve you better.
Nice Service From a Human or a Bot
Couldn’t close your vacation on your first contact and need to get back in touch? Make sure you can pick up the same conversation without repeating all the information you provided first. If you have to recount everything, run away. You’re not in the best hands.
Did they take a long time to respond, did you communicate outside of office hours, and did you not receive guidance from a bot? It would be best to consider whether you agree to give your money to a company that doesn’t invest in good customer service.
66% of customers thank AI for making their lives easier.
Are the answers you get, whether from a human or a bot, clear and optimized for your communication channel, and can you do so via an instant messaging service? If the answer is no, we are sorry to tell you that you face a red flag.
Remember that the above tips apply whether a person or a bot serves you since today, artificial intelligence (AI) is mature enough to offer a high-quality experience for consumers. Sixty-six percent of customers thank AI for making their lives easier.
Now that you know these tips run to make your reservations and run away from those companies that don’t value your time and money and don’t offer you the best of good customer service experiences.
