Child Tax Credit 2022 — Thousands Of Americans To Get $750 New Direct Payments Next Month – When To Expect… – The US Sun https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/child-tax-credit-2022-thousands-of-americans-to-get-750-new-direct-payments-next-month-when-to-expect-the-us-sun/ Live Blog MORE MONEY Updated: 7:00 ET, Sep 26 2022 TAX rebates worth up to $750 are on the way for families in Rhode Island, and nearby states have similar programs. In Rhode Island, families will get $250 per child and a maximum of $750 total for up to three children with payments going out beginning in October. In Connecticut, families can also claim $250 per child, which is capped at three children – for a total of $750. These payments started rolling out in late August. Meanwhile, New Yorkers claiming the Empire State child credit, which is based on income, will be mailed their checks automatically and can expect to receive them by the end of October. Read our child tax credit live blog for the latest news and updates… Connecticut credit closes The state of Connecticut issued $250 checks to families making less than $200,000. There was a limit of up to three children. The checks went out in August. Single filers needed to make $100,000 or less to receive payment. “In addition to making groundbreaking investments in childcare, crime prevention, environmental protection, and caring for our most vulnerable, the budget that we just enacted provides relief specifically targeted for lower and middle-income families with children,” Governor Lamont said when the payment was announced. New York’s Child Tax Credit The 2022–2023 New York State budget allows for one-time checks to eligible taxpayers for both the Empire State child credit and the one based on the earned income credit. The state will automatically send those who qualify a check throughout September. The amount varies based on income and is a percentage of last year’s payment. Potential Congressional deal could impact CTC Negotiations have begun in Congress to push a federal CTC into law by the end of this year. Democrats were not able to extend the CTC this past year due to Joe Manchin’s opposition, but a negotiation to revive the CTC in exchange for corporate tax cuts could be in the works. The Washington Post reports these discussions “have been quietly ongoing for months” and could put CTC back on the table. Eligibility for child and dependent care credit  In order to qualify for child and dependent care, you have to meet all of the following:  You must have earned income for the tax year. If you’re filing jointly with your spouse, you both have to have earned income for the tax year. You must be the custodial parent or main caretaker of the child or dependent. The child or dependent care service must have been used so that you could work or seek employment.  Your filing status must be single, head of household, qualifying widow or widower with a qualifying child, or married filing jointly Your child or dependent must be under 13. If they are disabled and physically or mentally incapable of caring for themselves, there is no minimum age requirement. The childcare provider cannot be your spouse or dependent or the child’s parent. The mission of child care credit The child and dependent care credit is designed to provide financial relief for working parents and guardians in raising a child or a disabled dependent.  The credit is dependent on the taxpayer’s income and the expenses used to provide for the child or dependent. It ultimately reduced the federal income taxes, which means people can receive a higher refund.  Deducting summer camps and daycare expenses  For people who paid for a daycare center, babysitter, summer camp, or other care providers to care for a child under age 13 or a disabled dependent of any age, they are eligible for a tax credit. It is up to 35 percent of qualifying expenses of $3,000 for one child or dependent, so the maximum a person can claim is $1,050 per child, as reported by Turbotax. The Quality Childcare Initiative Grant, part three To apply for the grant, organizations must attend the Letter of Intent and Stewardship Package Meeting on September 27, 2022, at 530 pm. You must RSVP to Dorothy Chambers at 812-235-6287 or dchambers@uwwv.org. Details for the full grant eligibility can be found at uwwv.org/funding. The Quality Childcare Initiative Grant, continued The grant is for two years and up to $150,000 will be available upon request for a proposal grant. Plus, childcare sites can grab up to $20,000 per year and must meet at least one of the following objectives: Increase regulated capacity in an existing Levels 3 or 4 Paths to QUALITY or ExceleRate Illinois program Attain Level 3 or 4 in Paths to QUALITY or ExceleRate Illinois for an existing program For a new program, show progress toward enrolling in Paths to QUALITY or ExceleRate Illinois and attaining Level 3 or 4 The Quality Childcare Initiative Grant In an effort to increase quality childcare, the United Way of the Wabash Valley is offering a third round of the Quality Childcare Initiative Grant opportunity. The initiative is funded through Success By 6 Impact Council which promotes healthy early childhood development. A major focus is to lay the foundation to prepare children for lifelong learning. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act Passed in 2021, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act was created to stop discrimination toward pregnant workers. The law states that employers cannot force pregnant workers off of the job. Plus, they cannot deny them reasonable accommodations that would allow them to continue working while maintaining healthy pregnancies. USDA’s $12.5billion plan to reduce childhood hunger The USDA is working towards ending child hunger by providing summer food buying benefits to families with children. The agency is working with 42 states and issuing roughly $12.5billion in temporary nutrition benefits to nearly 32million children, according to a press release. Cindy Long, administrator of the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service, said in the statement, “Providing children with the food and nutrition they need to live healthy lives is a year-round mission, and we are proud to partner with many states and territories to provide food-buying benefits for this summer.” White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health The conference will be September 28 and will focus on nutrition security and maintaining consistent and equitable access to healthy, safe, and affordable food, according to a press release. The White House Conference will also call on all stakeholders to address hunger and improve nutrition and diet-related health. This will be the first conference in 50 years, since 1969, which led to the expansion of the National School Lunch Program and other, similar programs. The cost of raising a child The USDA issued a report in 2017 detailing the cost of raising a child in America. The measure is for a middle-income, married couple with two children born in 2015. As inflation has since gone up raising prices in nearly every sector, the report may not be as accurate but did factor in a four percent inflation rate. The report showed that the cost of raising a child born in 2015 through 17 is $310,605 – nearly $18,0000 per year. USDA partnerships offer benefits for families The US Department of Agriculture partnered with 26 states and Puerto Rico to offer children temporary food benefits. Children will be eligible for the program if they receive free or reduced lunch at school, or if they’re under the age of 6 and live in a household that receives SNAP benefits. An estimated 13million children will benefit from the program. Benefits will be loaded onto a debit card that can be used to buy food. States with the highest teacher salaries According to the report, the following states are some of the highest paying states for teachers. California New York Pennsylvania Massachusetts Connecticut States with the lowest teacher salaries The average teacher salary in the US is $65,090, according to The Hill. Business.org comprised a list of states with the lowest and highest salaries. Below are the five states with the lowest salaries for teachers: District of Columbia Arizona Virginia Florida Colorado Teacher salaries fall behind A report by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) found that teachers are paid less in weekly wages and total compensation than their nonteacher college-educated counterparts. Additionally, the average weekly inflation-adjusted wage of public school teachers increased by just $29 from 1996 to 2021. The EPI has tracked the “teacher pay penalty” for almost 20 years and found that it reached a record high last year as teachers made 23.5 percent less than other college graduates. Denver teachers see pay raises Last week, the Denver Public Schools and the district’s teachers union temporarily agreed to increase educators’ salaries by an average of 8.7 percent. The deal was reached after weeks of negotiations and even an all-night bargaining session. The previous contract with the Denver Classroom Teachers Association expired last week. The union originally had asked for a 12 percent raise for educators for the 2022-23 academic year, noting the rising cost of living in the metro area. MLB Power Rankings: 100 Losses For Baseball’s Worst Teams? – USA TODAY https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/mlb-power-rankings-100-losses-for-baseballs-worst-teams-usa-today/ Last week we looked at Major League Baseball’s 100-win candidates, with the Houston Astros since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers in the triple digits. At the bottom of the league, as many as five teams could end the season with at least 100 losses. Entering Monday with 99 losses, the Washington Nationals should be the first club to get there, with the Pittsburgh Pirates (56-97) and Oakland Athletics (56-97) not far behind. MLB PLAYOFFS: Trade deadline disappointments can change the narrative NEWSLETTER: Get the latest sports news straight to your inbox There’s still a chance for the Cincinnati Reds (60-93) and Detroit Tigers (60-92) to finish with 100 losses, but the Reds would only have to finish 3-6 and the Tigers 3-7 to avoid hitting the “milestone.” Four teams finished with 100 losses last season – the Pirates (101), Arizona Diamondbacks (110), Baltimore Orioles (110) and Texas Rangers (102). Here’s how USA TODAY Sports’ eight- person panel voted this week: Rank (movement from last week) 1. Los Angeles Dodgers (–) Dustin May hits the IL with back tightness, but could be back in the playoffs. 2. Houston Astros (–) Astros reach 100 wins for the fourth time in five full seasons. 3. New York Mets (+1) Jacob deGrom has given up 11 earned runs in his last three starts – a 6.60 ERA. 4. New York Yankees (+1) After up-and-down summer, Yankees are hot at the right time, winning 14 of 18 from Sept. 3-24. 5. Atlanta Braves (-2) Spencer Strider will miss the rest of the regular season with an oblique injury 6. St. Louis Cardinals (–) If he wasn’t going to do it in St. Louis, Albert Pujols hitting No. 700 at Dodger Stadium was pretty special.  7. Toronto Blue Jays (–) Entering Monday with a 1.5-game advantage for home-field advantage in the Wild Card Series. 8. Cleveland Guardians (+4) Clinched AL Central with a seven-game win streak – as second-place White Sox lost six straight. 9. Tampa Bay Rays (-1) Tyler Glasnow will return to Rays’ rotation this week after August 2021 Tommy John surgery. 10. San Diego Padres (+1) Juan Soto is 11-for-26 (.423) with two homers and five RBI in his last seven games. 11. Philadelphia Phillies (-1) Kyle Schwarber’s 42 home runs are a career-high. 12. Seattle Mariners (-3) Acquired at the trade deadline, Luis Castillo gets a five-year, $108 million extension. 13. Milwaukee Brewers (–) Four wins in a row, entering Monday 1½ games back of the NL’s third wild-card spot. 14. Baltimore Orioles (+1) Mathematically alive! A playoff spot is unlikely, but final weeks should be fun. 15. Chicago White Sox (-1) Tony La Russa won’t manage again this season. What about next year? 16. Minnesota Twins (–) Batting .366 in September, Carlos Correa is (again) preparing to secure the bag should he opt out. 17. San Francisco Giants (+1) What the Giants do with Evan Longoria’s contract option is something to keep an eye on. 18. Boston Red Sox (-1) Shoutout Alex Verdugo, hitting .314 in 223 at-bats since the All-Star break. 19. Arizona Diamondbacks (–) Corbin Carroll named USA TODAY Sports Minor League Player of the Year.  20. Los Angeles Angels (–) Another listless Angels season finally nearing its conclusion. 21. Chicago Cubs (+2) This may actually be Willson Contreras’ final homestand at Wrigley Field. 22. Colorado Rockies (-1) Kris Bryant played 42 games in the first season of his $182 million contract. 23. Texas Rangers (-1) Josh Jung had six extra-base hits in his first 15 big-league games. 24. Miami Marlins (–) Manager Don Mattingly announces he won’t be back in 2023. 25. Cincinnati Reds (–) Mike Minor mulls retirement after shoulder injury, “tough” season.  26. Kansas City Royals (–) GM J.J. Picollo says a Bobby Witt Jr. extension has “loosely been discussed.”  27. Detroit Tigers (–) Weekend sweep in Chicago eliminated White Sox from the AL Central race. 28. Oakland Athletics (+1) Oakland scored five runs against Jacob deGrom on Saturday. 29. Pittsburgh Pirates (-1) Pittsburgh claimed 2018 Rookie of the Year runner-up Miguel Andujar off waivers from the Yankees. 30. Washington Nationals (–) With 99 defeats through Sunday, this will be the Nationals’ first 100-loss season since 2009.

Brazilian Police Raid Six Crypto Exchanges In International Money Laundering Ring Bust – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/brazilian-police-raid-six-crypto-exchanges-in-international-money-laundering-ring-bust-cryptonews/ Source: William F. Santos/Unsplash Police and tax officers in Brazil have launched a major operation that has seen them raid six domestic crypto exchanges. They believe the platforms may be implicated in a massive international crime and money laundering ring. In a joint announcement, the Special Department of Federal Revenue of Brazil (known locally as the Receita Federal, or the federal revenue service agency) and the Federal Police Force, stated that the raids took place as part of what they are calling “Operation Colossus.” Officers explained that they believe some $380 million worth of dirty money has been laundered through domestic crypto trading platforms – and that a single “criminal organization” is behind this. They wrote: “The operation will combat a criminal organization dedicated to money laundering that has used an intricate system of remittances. [The organization] has sent illicit resources abroad via the purchase and sale of cryptoassets.” The agencies stated that the organization had made use of a network of “shell companies” and “passed funds through transit accounts” – before purchasing “cryptoassets.” They claimed that the money comprised “embezzled funds, drug trafficking profits, laundered money,” and the revenues of various “crimes against the national financial system.” A total of 158 officers were dispatches to addresses in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, and Santa Catarina. Crypto Exchanges Raided The media outlet Metropoles reported that the Criminal Court of São Paulo had issued 101 court orders pertaining to the case, as well as “two arrest warrants,” and 37 search-and-seize warrants. Twenty two of these were issued to individuals and 15 to companies. Six of these search warrants were issued to crypto exchanges, although the identity of the trading platforms has not been revealed. A further four financial institutions that have Central Bank-issued licences for operating in the foreign exchange market have also been searched, as well as three accountancy firms. The media outlet added that the ring’s operators were allegedly “responsible for purchasing large amounts of cryptoassets abroad, in countries such as the United States, Singapore, and Hong Kong” and then selling these tokens on the Brazilian black market. The agencies added that they believed the crime ring may have been active for up to four years prior to the launch of Operation Colossus. The development comes as talk about crypto regulation begins to intensify in Brazil – with regulators now vying for more control over the sector.

Northern Trial Water-Trak Technology To Cut Disruptions This Autumn – Rail Technology Magazine https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/northern-trial-water-trak-technology-to-cut-disruptions-this-autumn-rail-technology-magazine/ Rail operator Northern have begun the process of fitting new weather resiliency technology to its trains that will aid in combatting stray leaves on the line, aiming to reduce overall passenger disruptions this Autumn. Railway lines are currently cleaned using railhead treatment trains, also known as RHTTs, but the limited number of these units creates logistical issues for line management. Leaf fall can present major issues for the rail network during Autumn as they can stick to the damp rails, thus becoming compressed into a smooth, slippery layer that in turn reduces the trains grip along the track. This major safety issue can cause severe delays to services and lead to passenger disruptions. To combat this issue, Northern will implement industry leading innovation as they fit 16 of their 170 trains with new ‘leaf-busting’ technology to help clear the lines between Leeds, Harrogate, and York as well as routes between Sheffield, Doncaster, Hull and Scarborough. The technology being utilised – Water-Trak – has had previous testing performed across the Northern Network, where it creates rainy-day conditions on the surface of the rail line. This is achieved by spraying a small amount of water from the train onto the track when a slippery rail is detected. The idea of dousing these lines with water to create rainy conditions may seem counterproductive, however it has been discovered that leaf coated rails only become slippery if damp, noting that trains still stop safely in heavy rain. Rob Cummings, seasonal improvement manager at Northern, said: “This is the next step in finding a solution to tricky autumn conditions. One of the biggest risks to our performance during October and November is leaves on the line, but by helping to develop new innovative technology we aim to deliver the very best service for our passengers.”  The trials being conducted come following two of Northern’s Class 319s fitted with Water-Trak successfully operating passenger services since late October 2021. These current trials are being conducted in cooperation with Network Rail’s Performance Innovation Fund. Want to know more about the opportunities to become a key supplier to the UK rail industry? With New Direct Route To Jamaica Bradley Airport Eyes More Domestic/international Service 10M Passengers Hartford Business Journal
With New Direct Route To Jamaica, Bradley Airport Eyes More Domestic/international Service, 10M Passengers – Hartford Business Journal https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/with-new-direct-route-to-jamaica-bradley-airport-eyes-more-domestic-international-service-10m-passengers-hartford-business-journal/ Click below for more information about projects that are proposed at Bradley International. More Information Landing Spirit Airlines and a new nonstop service from Bradley International Airport to Jamaica was a deal years in the making, according to Connecticut Airport Authority Executive Director Kevin A. Dillon. Bringing a new destination and airline together requires a great deal of work behind the scenes — and some financial incentives — before a service can take flight. Dillon is still celebrating the recently announced and long-awaited Jamaica flight, but he’s not resting on his laurels, pushing forward with efforts to add more domestic and international nonstop routes with an ambitious goal to increase Bradley Airport’s annual passenger count to 10 million. That would be significantly higher volume than the 7 million passengers Bradley recorded in 2019 — right before the pandemic upended air travel. “I do believe that if we are successful in continuing to add airlines and destinations, we could become a 10-million passenger airport,” Dillon said. “That would put us in a nice solid position in the medium hub category.” Population demand State and airport officials gathered in early September to announce that Spirit, starting Dec. 15, will offer nonstop service from Bradley to Montego Bay, Jamaica, for the first time. The flights will run year-round, four times a week. Bradley in Windsor Locks is New England’s second-busiest airport after Logan in Boston. Connecticut is home to the fifth-largest population of residents with Jamaican ancestry in the U.S., with more than 56,000 here, according to census data. Dillon said working for a Jamaica flight was “really a reflection of the huge Jamaican population that lives in the Greater Hartford area as well as throughout Connecticut. So, I felt all along that would be a very successful market.” The Jamaica route will also transport cargo and serve residents from Connecticut and surrounding states looking for a convenient, direct flight to a popular vacation destination. PHOTO | CONTRIBUTED Connecticut Airport Authority Executive Director Kevin Dillon at a press conference earlier this month announcing the launch of Spirit Airlines’ new nonstop service to Jamaica. Dillon said securing a new deal is a challenge and takes years of negotiating, not only because the Jamaica route was, at the time, speculative, but since Bradley is also competing with every airport in the country for limited aircraft. “For years, we have been talking to a number of carriers here about what we saw as the potential for Jamaica. But when you have these speculative routes, it needs an added boost to convince an airline that you’re willing to share some of the risk, and that’s why we were very fortunate that the state also felt that this was a very, very important route to deliver here at Bradley,” Dillon said. The Federal Aviation Administration prohibits airports or aviation agencies from offering revenue guarantees, but the state Department of Economic and Community Development could. DECD drafted a $2-million incentive that subsidizes the airline for any per-flight revenue shortfalls in the first two years. “So, in this particular case, we were able to convince Spirit Airlines that we think (Jamaica) is a good route to begin with, and the state was willing to put forward this revenue guarantee, and that’s really what helped us get it done,” Dillon said. Bradley also has its own incentive program to waive certain rates and charges to airlines, as well as provide marketing to promote airlines and destinations. Passenger targets Pre-pandemic, about 7 million passengers used Bradley each year. Passenger traffic is rebounding as the worst of the health crisis continues to fade — through June of this year Bradley saw 2.73 million passengers, up 57% from the same time period a year earlier, but down 18% from 2019. Dillon said his goal is to reach 10 million passengers at some point in the future by recruiting more airlines and direct flights. Breeze Airways this summer started nonstop service between Bradley and Las Vegas, Jacksonville and other cities. Domestically, “Seattle is still a primary market we’re after,” Dillon said, because that city and Connecticut are both aerospace industry epicenters, with Boeing there and Pratt & Whitney here. Demand exists for connectivity between Connecticut and the Pacific Northwest, Dillon said, and Seattle would also serve as an additional jumping-off point for flights to Asia. He’s also aiming for more direct flights to cities like Austin and Milwaukee, “where we’re seeing a fair amount of demand,” from their data collection on passengers, which includes studying zip codes of passengers and flight destinations, whether direct or connecting. This helps the authority know where passengers are coming from and where they are going, and to gauge new potential direct-flight markets. Sometimes passengers are willing to drive to New York or Boston for a direct flight instead of catching a connecting flight from Bradley. “So, when we see that we have enough passengers per day going to a particular destination, that becomes a target city, and that’s information we share with the airlines to try to educate them on the potential market,” he said. “We try to determine why we have people traveling to those destinations … and we have demonstrated time and again that if we have nonstop service, (to a certain destination) we will capture 80% of the ridership.” The airport authority also studies Connecticut’s business environment to see any connection between local and national companies and potential business travel destinations. Bradley’s size and proximity are an added bonus for passengers who might prefer a small airport to New York or Boston, and it was Bradley’s smaller size that perhaps helped it lead the way in airport recovery in the post-COVID world of air travel. “The pandemic set back aviation in general across the country,” he said, with overall air travel at one point falling 97%. International flights The CAA was active throughout COVID negotiating with airlines and working to add more runs. Leisure travel led the recovery, riding on people’s pent-up demand for vacations, Dillon said. “We climbed our way back, and while we’re not fully recovered, we’ve made a lot of progress,” he said. Business travel hasn’t returned as robustly, Dillon said, and it’s now a waiting game to see how that market bounces back. Looking ahead, resuming Aer Lingus flights to Dublin, Ireland, and offering regular direct flights to London are also on his priority list. Aer Lingus suspended flights out of Bradley in 2020, but could resume them next spring, Dillon said. “A lot of that is going to depend on their view of the business travel market … because that’s a very important component to that trans-Atlantic service, but I do feel very confident we’ll see Aer Lingus back here in the very near future,” he said. He’s also trying to get nonstop service to London. “I think that would be one of our most successful routes,” for both business and vacation travelers and due to the high level of connectivity for other spots in Europe, he said. But like the Jamaica deal, putting together all the moving parts, and being patient as well as persistent, is key. “It takes years to educate airlines and get them onboard,” he said. “Some of the work we’ve done with Spirit to educate them on the market, combined with the revenue guarantee, is really what put it over the finish line.” Bradley Airport eyes $225 million in new projects Amid anticipated future growth, Bradley International Airport is poised to undergo two major renovation projects totaling more than $225 million, with the goal of opening up more space for travelers. The airport plans to spend $185 million on the design, development and construction of a new building for TSA baggage inspections and handling. Another $41 million project will pay for additions to the east and west ends of Bradley’s Terminal A, with approximately 20,200 square feet for improved circulation of passenger arrivals and departures. The project also includes renovation and infill of the existing center core of the terminal to allow for expansion of passenger circulation in the main TSA security checkpoint.

VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 26 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 26 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 26 – VietNamNet https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/vietnam-business-news-september-26-vietnamnet/ The number of air passengers in September reached 4.2 million, down 14% month-on-month, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV). The volume increased by 19.6% and 3% compared to that the same month in 2021 and 2019, respectively, it said. During the month, Vietnamese airlines served  712,000 foreign travelers, up 8.7% compared to last month and down 47.8% compared to that in September 2019. The volume of domestic passengers reached 3.7 million, a drop of 13% month-on-month but 34% higher than that the same month in 2019. The CAAV attributed the decrease in the air passenger volume to the fact that airlines have entered the low season which usually lasts until the end of December, adding that the number will rise remarkably during Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday in the early months of each year. Vietnamese airlines carried 37 million passengers in the first nine months of this year, including 2.9 million foreign and 19.5 domestic ones. The figures soared by 157%, 2,396% and nearly 140% respectively compared to the same period last year. Vietnamese pomelo has large potential for export       Vietnamese pomelo has large potential for expanding exports to demanding markets including the US, the EU and Japan, according to the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, Deputy Director of the Export Promotion Centre, said that Vietnamese pomelo was considered to have superior quality to other countries thanks to its moderate sweetness and suitability to consumers of many regions and markets together with a low pest risk. As pomelo has thick skin, it is easy to preserve for a long time after harvest, which makes it possible to transport by sea. Besides, agricultural products and pomelo in particular are subject to preferential tariffs under free trade agreements to which Viet Nam is a member. The export potential to many markets of Vietnamese pomelo is still large. Thuy pointed out that currently, Vietnamese pomelo was mainly exported in the form of fresh fruit with low added value. Pomelo could be processed into many different products such as fruit juice, essential oil and jam while the essence in pomelo peel could be used to produce many types of pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs. Thuy said the US allowed the official import of green-skinned pomelo from Viet Nam, making pomelo the seventh fresh fruit of Viet Nam to be allowed to enter this market, after mango, longan, lychee, dragon fruit, rambutan and star apple. Other goods such as coconut and durian were already exported to the US but in frozen form. After pomelo, the US is considering procedures to allow the import of Vietnamese coconuts into the US. Vu Thi Thuy, from the trade office in Hong Kong, said that Hong Kong had high demand for fresh pomelo, spending $36.4 million to import pomelo last year, an year-on-year increase of 28.2 per cent. Viet Nam ranked second in exporting pomelo to Hong Kong with an export revenue of $2.5 million, after Thailand with $7.8 million in 2021. However, in the first seven months of this year, Viet Nam’s export of pomelo to Hong Kong increased 133 per cent against the same period last year to reach $2.53 million, making Viet Nam the largest pomelo exporters to Hong Kong as Thailand’s export was at $2.5 million.  Tra Vinh Province approves $7.8m industrial cluster       The Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh has decided to build the An Phu Tan industrial cluster in Cau Ke District at a cost of more than VND185 billion (US$7.8 million). The Thien Phu Construction Investment and Electromechanical Joint Stock Company and Thai Son Traffic Construction Joint Stock Company will develop the 20ha cluster, according to the province People’s Committee. It is expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2024. Once operational, it will prioritise tenants in the automobile, mechanical, high-tech, packaging, footwear, textile-garment, food processing, and electronics supporting industries. Construction of technical infrastructure has begun on three of them, Tan Ngai, Hiep My Tay and Phu Can. The province is soliciting investment in building technical infrastructure for the Luu Nghiep Anh cluster in Tra Cu District and Sa Binh cluster in Tra Vinh City.  Techcombank credit rating upgraded to Ba2 by Moody’s, outlook stable       Moody’s Investor Service has upgraded Techcombank’s Baseline Credit Assessment (BCA) and credit rating, meaning Techcombank now has the strongest creditworthiness of all Vietnamese banks, with capital and profitability its credit strengths. Specifically, Moody’s upgraded Techcombank’s long-term counterparty risk assessment (CRR) to Ba1 from Ba2 and long-term deposit to Ba2 from Ba3, with a stable outlook. Moody’s also upgraded the bank’s BCA to ba2 from ba3. Techcombank is currently the only Vietnamese bank with a BCA of ba2. Moody’s explained that its ratings action reflects Techcombank’s strong standalone creditworthiness and the upgrade of Viet Nam’s issuer rating to Ba2 from Ba3 on September 6, 2022. Before this rating action, Techcombank’s BCA and ratings were constrained by Viet Nam’s previous sovereign rating of Ba3. Techcombank’s asset quality also remained broadly stable despite the pandemic, with the gross non-performing loan (NPL) ratio increasing modestly to 0.7 per cent as of the end of 2021 from 0.5 per cent a year earlier. Loan loss coverage was also high at 163 per cent as of 2021. Investors cautious about disbursing investments amid higher rates: experts       As many major central banks tightened monetary policies to contain soaring inflation, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) on September 22 also decided to hike its benchmark interest rate by 100 basis points, effective September 23. This is the first rate hike by the SBV since 2020, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to experts, the move is in line with current monetary market developments in order to avoid creating a significant management gap between Viet Nam and other economies. Last week, the US Federal Reserve announced an increase in the central bank’s overnight interest rates by 0.75 percentage points to 3–3.25 per cent a year, its fifth rate hike in 2022. The Fed also affirmed that it would continue to raise rates and maintain them above 4 per cent a year after 2023 to curb inflation. This has caused the US dollar to continue to appreciate strongly and break the 20-year peak in the international market, putting pressure on the USD/VND exchange rate and monetary policy management. According to the forecast of VNDirect Securities Corporation, the deposit interest rate may increase by 30–50 basis points from the current level in the last months of 2022. Thereby, the 12-month deposit interest rate of commercial banks will, on average, increase to 6.1–6.3 per cent a year by the end of 2022, but still lower than the pre-pandemic level of 7 per cent a year. Warrant market to be active in the rest of 2022       With the number of new released covered warrant (CW) codes increasing nearly four times between August 2021 and August 2022, the warrant market is expected to be active again in the last three months of the year thanks to new issuances. SSI Securities Corporation listed 423 million covered warrants under 28 new CW codes that it issued at the end of August on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange on Thursday. The 28 are based on 12 blue-chip stocks, mainly in banking (ACB, MBB, STB, TCB, TPB, and VPB), real estate and building materials (VHM, KDH and HPG) and retail (FPT, MWG and VRE). They have maturities of four, seven and 12 months, and conversion ratios of 2:1, 4:1, 6:1, 8:1, and 10:1. An SSI spokesperson said the company constantly seeks to issue covered warrants for a diverse range of underlying stocks in different industry groups in the VN30 index basket, but focuses on certain stocks in demand such as HPG, STB and FPT. Investors can buy and sell CWs issued by SSI on HOSE on a T+1.5 settlement cycle just like stocks. If they hold a warrant to maturity, the difference will be paid in cash in case it is in a profitable position. Viet Nam’s covered warrant market has grown significantly in the three years since it came into being. It had 157 warrant codes of seven issuers as of the end of last month compared to 48 a year ago. According to statistics, covered warrants issued by SSI are always very liquid. HCM City to host int’l food expo next month       The HCMC F OODEX 2022, Viet Nam’s leading food and beverage (F&B) trade show, will take place next month in HCM City from October 19-22. Featuring some 300 booths, the expo will play host to more than 300 local and international exhibitors and is expected to attract 18,000 visitors. Products to be on display include raw or lightly processed food products (such as agricultural products, seafood, spices); deeply processed food; beverages; raw materials used in the food processing industry; and machinery and equipment for food production, packaging and preservation. At the expo, there will be on-site performances of processing and making special dishes and drinks from Vietnamese and international businesses, along with seminars about opportunities and challenges driving the F&B landscape in Viet Nam and the world. There will also be a symposium called “Development trends of the food industry” and a training workshop on “Standards of food for export to potential markets”. Bright prospects for agri-seafood exports at year-end On September 17, more than 100 tonnes of fresh durians from five local producers were exported to China via the official channel, marking the debut of many more shipments to this billion-population market in the forthcoming time. After durians, passion fruits also have ample space for export to China as these two items were approved by China to enter the ...

And in order to keep the sugar levels in check, it’s important to have strict control over your cravings and consume healthy food. While there is no specific diet plan for diabetics, it’s important to focus more on food items that do not spike your blood sugar levels. A page on Instagram by the name ‘Nutrition by Lovneet,’ dedicates a post on five food items that can help keep diabetes in check. The caption of the post mentions, “Figuring out the best foods to eat when you have diabetes doesn’t have to be tough. To keep things simple, your main goal should be managing your blood sugar levels.” Refer to this list of five healthy food items if you are a diabetic: 1. Amla It is believed that this food item carries chromium that has positive effects on the pancreas, where insulin is produced. This, in turn, helps regulate blood sugar levels in the body. 2. Neem These are loaded with flavonoids, triterpenoids, antiviral compounds, and glycosides and can help you in keeping your blood sugar levels in control. This is beneficial for people with diabetes. 3. Jamun This gorgeous fruit has anti-diabetic properties and this is one of its best medicinal benefits. Jamun has an important glycoside namely Jambolin which prevents the conversion of starch into sugar thereby helping in controlling the blood sugar levels. So, people with diabetes must include Jamun in their diets.   4. Cinnamon It can help fight diabetes by imitating the effects of insulin and increasing glucose transport into cells. It can also help lower blood sugar by increasing insulin sensitivity, making insulin more efficient at moving glucose into cells. 5. Bitter gourd No matter how much you dislike this vegetable, it’s impossible to ignore its health benefits. It contains bitter chemicals like charantin, vicine, glycosides and arabinosides along with polypeptide-p plant insulin, which is hypoglycemic in action and improves blood sugar levels by increasing glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis in the liver, muscles and fat cells. Best Disposable Cameras That Are Great For Parties Holidays And Weddings Evening Standard
Best Disposable Cameras That Are Great For Parties, Holidays And Weddings – Evening Standard https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/best-disposable-cameras-that-are-great-for-parties-holidays-and-weddings-evening-standard/ E ven with all the advances in modern camera technology, there is one old-school method of picture taking that has never lost its appeal – using a disposable camera. Cheap and cheerful, quick and easy to use, and producing high-quality photos, they make the perfect device for recording your favourite moments, whether on holiday, at a party or special occasion. Pull them out at events, strike a pose and once it’s shot, that’s it. No editing, no take-two, just a totally candid snapshot of that moment. And what’s best is that, once developed, you have a physical print to remember that time forever. What to consider when choosing a disposable camera? There are a couple of things to consider when choosing the right disposable camera for you… Number of photos: Check out how many photos the camera is able to take. The average number tends to be about 27, while some take fewer – around 16 – and others can take up to 39. The price usually coordinates with this. Colour of photos: Do you want your prints in colour or black and white? Depending on your decision, make sure you choose a camera with the correct colour film. Design: Opt for a camera which is compact and lightweight – it will make it more portable and easier to use. Features: Where will you be using your camera? Underwater, by the sea or in misty rain? Choose a waterproof camera and you can still have high-quality photos produced. Many also have optional flash control so you can use it in all types of lighting, and inside or outside. Interpol Has Issued A Red Notice For Do Kwon Say South Korean Prosecutors Cryptonews
Interpol Has Issued A Red Notice For Do Kwon, Say South Korean Prosecutors – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/interpol-has-issued-a-red-notice-for-do-kwon-say-south-korean-prosecutors-cryptonews/ Source: Scott Rodgerson/Unsplash The International Criminal Police Organization, known widely as Interpol, has issued a Red Notice on Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs and the Terra ecosystem – as the manhunt for the elusive crypto chief continues. South Korean prosecutors confirmed the Red Notice on September 26, per a number of South Korean media outlets including SBS. The prosecution declined to make any further comment on the matter, however. An Interpol Red Notice is the highest level request that Interpol is capable of issuing – and effectively asks police officers in almost every nation in the world to “locate and provisionally arrest” the individual in question “pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.” Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office’s Financial and Securities Crime Unit first approached Interpol for assistance last week after issuing an arrest warrant earlier in the month. The nation’s foreign ministry has also stepped in, and hopes to cancel Kwon’s passport – in a bid to force Kwon’s deportation. Where Is Do Kwon? South Korean authorities claim that Kwon is now a “fugitive” and stated that it was “evident” that Kwon was now “on the run.” Kwon denied this on September 17, the last time he posted on social media. But the evidence appears to indicate otherwise. Kwon, prosecutors say, “fled” to Singapore at the end of April, mere days before the Terra ecosystem crash, along with five Terraform executives. South Korean police say that Kwon’s family flew out to Singapore shortly after. Singaporean police, however, have stated that Kwon is no longer in Singapore. Prosecutors believe they have enough evidence to prove that the Terra ecosystem coins that Kwon sold were “unregistered securities,” even though some domestic lawyers have claimed it will be hard to make these charges stick. South Korean law does not classify any form of cryptoasset as a security. But Beoplyool TV News, a media outlet that focuses on legal affairs, quoted a financial lawyer named Cha Sang-jin as stating that if the prosecution focuses on TerraClassicUSD (UST), it may have more success. Cha claimed that Terraform executives “emphasized” a “value linkage with the US dollar” before UST lost its peg in early May. In proving that promises about a USD-linked stablecoin were untrue, legal experts suggested, prosecutors may be able to prove that Kwon and others “violated the Capital Market Act.”

Iran has been rocked by nationwide demonstrations sparked by the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, after she was detained by morality police enforcing the Islamic Republic’s strict restrictions on women’s dress. The case has drawn international condemnation. Iran said the United States was supporting rioters and seeking to destablise the Islamic Republic. On his Instagram page, Kanaani accused the leaders of the United States and some European countries of abusing a tragic incident in support of the “rioters” and ignoring “the presence of millions of people in the streets and squares of the country in support of the system.” The anti-government protests are the largest to sweep the country since demonstrations over fuel prices in 2019, when Reuters reported 1,500 people were killed in a crackdown on protesters – the bloodiest bout of internal unrest in the Islamic Republic’s history. The state has organised demonstrations in an attempt to defuse the crisis. Iran has blamed armed Iranian Kurdish dissidents of involvement in ongoing unrest in the country, particularly in the northwest where most of Iran’s up to 10 million Kurds live. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched a new artillery and drone attack on Iranian militant opposition bases in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported. Check Point Software Technologies – CAJ News Africa – Caj News Africa https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/check-point-software-technologies-caj-news-africa-caj-news-africa/ by AKANI CHAUKE JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – WITH the increase in technology across all sectors heightening the risks of cyber attacks is more imperative than ever to teach the younger generations about cyber security. This is according to a leading provider of cyber security solutions globally as the word marks Technology Education Day. It is marked on September 23 and in Africa, it comes on the back of organisations experiencing an average of 1 896 cyber attacks per week over the last six months. Check Point Software Technologies advises that Technology Education Day assumes more significance than ever as so much course work and classroom teaching relies on digital platforms. “Cybersecurity education is becoming more and more important, as it will not only be useful for people working in the sector, but it will be crucial for everyone’s day-to-day life,” explained Pankaj Bhula, Regional Director for Africa at Check Point Software. The executive added, “Everything is becoming more digitalised and any action we take will carry dangers both in our work and in our private lives.” “Today’s children are technology natives, so let’s give them the tools to feel safe in a fast-changing environment where they spend most of their day.” Experts recommend ten years of age as the ideal time to begin addressing cyber security in the classroom, as long as the different devices have security software and parental controls, and they are used under adult supervision. At this stage, the most useful knowledge that can be taught to pupils is about privacy, responsible use of the internet, basic security settings for devices and advice on cyber bullying. The secondary school age group needs to learn the most common cyber security threats and dangers on the internet, such as phishing and how to identify a suspicious email or text, account theft, malware, ransomware and their signs. At higher education level, experts note it is at this stage that a student focuses on the subject in which they want to specialise and develop for their professional life. Subjects such as computer engineering, telecommunications, a degree specialising in cyber security or computer science are seen as ones ones that will expand the cyber security knowledge beyond what was learned at school. – CAJ News

OSAAtoday – Football: Inside Week 4 – OSAA https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/osaatoday-football-inside-week-4-osaa/ Kennedy earns another donut run with shutout of Dayton; South Medford rolls at South Salem; Mountainside, Southridge both 4-0 Kennedy’s William Schaecher ran for 113 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries in Friday’s win at Dayton. (Photo by Andre Panse) The move up to 3A hasn’t slowed down Kennedy‘s football team. The fifth-ranked Trojans, 2A champions in 2018 and runners-up in 2019 and 2021, made an emphatic statement Friday with a 21-0 win at No. 4 Dayton in a 3A Special District 2 showdown. It is the third consecutive shutout for Kennedy (4-0, 2-0), which has outscored its foes 161-8 this season. And the Trojans did it against a surging Dayton team that was averaging 43.7 points. The shutout means that Kennedy coach Joe Panuke will be making another run to the donut shop to reward his players, in keeping with a Sunday tradition. “Coming into a 3A league is tough, and if you want to win a league title, you’re going to have to go through Dayton,” Panuke said. “So this was definitely a big one. But we have some tough games ahead – Scio, Santiam Christian – some real tough ones. It won’t get any easier, but we’re definitely going to enjoy this one.” The Trojans gave up size to Dayton (3-1, 1-1) but were able to stand up to the Pirates’ power running game. They held Dayton junior Zach Smith, who was averaging 208.0 rushing yards per game, to 49 yards on 15 carries. The Pirates finished with 175 total yards, 115 on the ground. “We knew it was going to be a tough one because they are big and strong,” Kennedy senior receiver and defensive back Charlie Beyer said. “We just dug deeper and played harder. “It just tells them how tough our defense is and that we can stop people. We’ll keep working on our offense and keep improving that, too. And we all love donuts.” After a scoreless first half, Kennedy struck in the third quarter with a 63-yard touchdown pass from junior Elijah Traeger to senior Owen Bruner. An interception set up the next score, a 21-yard touchdown run by senior William Schaecher, to make it 14-0 in the fourth quarter. Traeger connected with senior Brett Boen for a 44-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 21-0. Schaecher finished with 113 yards on 17 carries. Traeger began to find a passing rhythm in the second half after a choppy first half and finished 9 of 21 for 210 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Bruner had three catches for 102 yards. “We are a big passing team, and it really gets us going when we can make those big plays,” Traeger said. “But it’s tough. Sometimes we take a while to figure out what plays are going to break their defense and get us our yards.” – Andre Panse contributed to this report Panthers prevail In a matchup of two of the state’s hottest quarterbacks, South Medford prevailed at No. 10 South Salem 48-35 on Friday night to maintain its share of first place in 6A Special District 1. Senior Deacon Edgar passed for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns and ran for two scores to power the unranked Panthers (4-0, 2-0) past the Saxons (3-1, 1-1) and senior quarterback Daschel Smith, who entered the game leading the state in passing yards and touchdown passes. “We needed him to show some good decision-making tonight, because they’re a good blitzing team,” South Medford coach Bill Singler told the Mail-Tribune about Edgar. “He made some good decisions tonight at the line of scrimmage that allowed us to make some big plays against their blitzing scheme.” Edgar threw for 271 yards in the first half, including three touchdown passes of 18, 13 and 47 yards to senior Andrew Walker, as South Medford led 27-21. After Smith scored on one-yard run to tie 27-27, Edgar ran for a one-yard score, threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to senior Ty Henry, and ran for a 36-yard score as the Panthers opened a 48-27 lead. Edgar has thrown 11 touchdown passes – nine in the last two games — for South Medford, which is 4-0 for the first time since 2011, when it opened 8-0. “All those practices we had over the summer, all those routes and 7-on-7s, it showed tonight in our passing attack,” Edgar told the Mail-Tribune. “We executed well.” Walker and Henry accounted for more than 250 receiving yards. Walker, the reigning 6A champion in the 100 and 200 meters, leads the Panthers with six touchdown catches. Henry is next with three. “South Salem’s got a group of talented receivers, but we do, too,” Singler said. “I told our guys that our receivers are as good as anybody’s across the board — they just have to go out and play like it. And they did tonight.” On defense, the Panthers had three interceptions and did not allow a touchdown pass to Smith, who threw for 12 scores in the first three games. Smith had one of South Salem’s five touchdown runs. South Medford is tied for first place in Special District 1 with No. 1 Sheldon (4-0, 2-0) and North Medford (2-2, 2-0). The Panthers play at Sheldon on Oct. 7. Mountainside 4-0 Mountainside coach John Mannion knew that opening the season against four teams that made the 6A playoffs last season was going to put his team to the test. After beating Newberg 49-28 on Thursday, the Mavericks moved to 4-0 for the first time in the program’s five-year history. “I guess it’s sort of what we hoped we could do,” said Mannion, whose team begins Metro League play next week at Westview. “We certainly didn’t expect it, given all the teams we’ve played. Coming out of those games 4-0, we’re awfully proud of that. “While we’re definitely excited about our start, we’re also very well grounded in the fact that each week there’s an opponent that could beat us.” It’s a dramatic turn from last season, when an inexperienced Mountainside team was outscored 119-36 in losing its first three games to Lake Oswego, Westview and Tigard. The Mavericks rebounded to finish 6-5, making the second round of the 6A playoffs. “A lot of guys last year gained a lot of experience,” Mannion said. “So coming into this year, we had a fair amount of guys that had played a lot of games.” In particular, the experience gained up front is paying dividends. Senior tackle Kevin Cassidy (6-6, 285) and senior center Reed Gerber (6-6, 250) are third-year starters, and senior guard Jackson Stiles (6-1, 250) started at center last year. Junior guard Drew McCarty (6-4, 225) also started some games in 2021. “Our offensive line has been doing a heck of a job,” Mannion said. “We’ve got three or four guys that have played a lot of high school football. They’ve really taken the next step. They work well together. It’s a good unit for us.” The Mavericks opened by beating Roseburg 35-0, Barlow 21-20 and Lake Oswego 24-7. Last year, they lost at Lake Oswego 40-7 in the season opener. “We were much more prepared to play Lake Oswego this year in terms of experience, and physically developed kids,” Mannion said. “This year we were able to stand in with them.” In Thursday’s win, junior Alex Ingalls completed 10 of 13 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a score as the Mavericks racked up 381 y ards. Brayden Boe, a 6-4 sophomore basketball standout, had three catches for 105 yards and one touchdown. For the season, Ingalls has completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 551 yards and six touchdowns with two interceptions. Boe has 10 catches for 220 yards and four scores. Mannion said that Ingalls has been “really efficient. He’s made some nice, clutch throws on third down.” 5A suits Southridge Dropping from 6A to 5A this season has provided a jolt for Southridge, which is off to a 4-0 start. For the second game in a row, the Skyhawks won on their final possession Thursday when sophomore Rowen Miner kicked a 20-yard field goal with 15 seconds left to beat host Mountain View 24-21 in a nonleague game. The previous week, Southridge won at Hood River Valley 35-28 on a 26-yard touchdown pass from junior Jack Klee to senior Alisjah Tucker with 34 seconds left. “It’s been nice to play other schools that we’re on a level playing field with,” Skyhawks coach Kevin Bickler said. “They’ve all been competitive games, every single one of them. That’s what you want in high school sports, competitive balance. It’s allowed our kids the opportunity to learn how to compete in crucial situations. You want to have that opportunity, at least.” Southridge – which went a combined 5-20 the previous three seasons, including 1-8 in 2021 — met OSAA criteria to drop down one classification this season. The Skyhawks were 1-13 in the 6A Metro League during that span. “I miss our rivalry games, like with Beaverton and Mountainside,” Bickler said. “There’s tradition there, and the kids and fans enjoy it. But what’s the overall goal of high school sports? It’s to create safe and competitive balance. I feel like with our current enrollment, our numbers fit better at the 5A level.” Southridge finished 2021 with 65 players in the program and has about 60 this season. “We don’t have a lot of depth, even still,” Bickler said. “I hope with the success we’re having that more kids will come out. All six years I’ve been the head coach, we’ve had between 60 and 70 in the program. I’d like it to be more like 80.” If the Skyhawks win two more games, they will meet the threshold for moving back up to 6A next year. Bickler believes programs should be given two years to drop down one classification before having to go back up. “You can’t really build numbers back up in one year,” he said. Southridge is getting a breakout season from Klee, the brother of JC Klee, the starter the last two seasons. Klee has thrown 13 touchdown passes, including five against Hood River Valley and three against Mountain View. Klee connected with Tucker and juniors Stone Fowler and Matthew Nichols for scores against Mountain View. Klee converted several third downs on the winning drive, which started at the Southri...

Indian Hotels’ Stock Investors Have Decent View, But Large Upside May Be Capped | Mint – Mint https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/indian-hotels-stock-investors-have-decent-view-but-large-upside-may-be-capped-mint-mint/ Home / Markets / Mark To Market /  Indian Hotels’ stock investors have decent view, but large upside may be capped Premium Indian Hotels’ management said occupancies in Q2FY23 are trending closer to Q1FY23 2 min read . Updated: 26 Sep 2022, 11:45 AM IST Vineetha Sampath Indian Hotels’ H2FY23 is likely to be boosted on account of wedding season, corporate meetings and increase in foreign travel led by vacation during Christmas or New Year Indian Hotels Co. Ltd may see increased check-ins as the robust demand momentum in leisure travel sustains and the business segment stages a strong recovery. In an investor meeting hosted by Jefferies India, the Indian Hotels’ management said occupancies in Q2FY23 are trending closer to Q1FY23. This is despite Q2FY23 being a seasonally weak quarter due to rains and reopening of schools. In the last quarter, the company’s domestic occupancy was 9% higher versus pre-covid levels (Q1FY20). As such, room rates in Q2 are expected to be on the higher side when compared to pre-covid levels. What’s more, H2FY23 is likely to be boosted on account of the wedding season, corporate meetings and an increase in foreign travel led by vacation during Christmas or New Year. Further, “India will assume the Presidency of the G20 (an intergovernmental forum) for one year from Dec-22 to Nov-23 and India is expected to host over 200 G20 meetings across the country as per the Ministry of External Affairs. This could fillip growth in the travel and hospitality segment during this period,” said Jefferies report dated 26 September. However, the pent-up component in leisure travel has largely ebbed. In view of this, the Indian Hotels’ management said ARR growth in this segment may be subdued hereon. But the rebound in business travel would lift the overall ARR. “With improving visibility, we raise occupancy assumptions by 100-200 basis points for FY23-FY25, and ARR assumption by 8-10% — driving Ebitda upgrade of 14-19% for FY23-FY25,” said analysts at Jefferies. One basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point. Ebitda is earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization. Shares of Indian Hotels have rallied by nearly 80% in the past one year, while the Nifty500 index declined by 3%. Investors would do well to monitor the turnaround in international operations as well as the Sea Rock investment in India. In the Q1 earnings call, with respect to the latter, the management said it is working on designs and accelerating the approvals. To be sure, the sharp appreciation in Indian Hotels’ stock price suggests meaningful upsides could well be capped hereon. I Am Profoundly Disappointed At The Celebration Of Alcohol By UGs Administration Stabroek News
I Am Profoundly Disappointed At The Celebration Of Alcohol By UG’s Administration – Stabroek News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/i-am-profoundly-disappointed-at-the-celebration-of-alcohol-by-ugs-administration-stabroek-news/ Dear Editor, I am aware that the subject of this letter has been addressed by others. Yet, from my position of a member of the 40th. Anniversary of the University of Guyana twenty years ago and currently a long-standing faculty member of its Department of Law, I have strong convictions on the association between the University of Guyana and Demerara Distillers Ltd on the occasion of the University’s 60th anniversary. However the University and DDL may want to portray this unaged, 60th edition product, it is nothing more than the promotion of a substance which takes a heavy toll on Guyanese, the poorer class, youth, Amerindians, households and increasingly, women.  Two years ago, the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) published a Regional Status Report on Alcohol in the Americas 2020. I am not sure which is worse – that the UG Administration is aware of the distressing findings of the Report but sells its intellectual soul and reputation for an uncertain sum of money, or that it does not know of the Report. Of the thirty-five (35) countries covered by the Report, Guyana ranks among the bad to very bad in most of the metrics surveyed – alcohol use by youth (aged 15 – 19); alcohol consumption among adults; alcohol drinks per day per drinker; alcohol attributable deaths; fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and fetal alcohol syndrome. Working class families are stuck in poverty because the “rum bill” is the first claim on the household’s income, leaving little for education, healthy living and savings. Domestic abuse, miserable and unhappy households, lost working days, lives shortened, debilitating illnesses and inter-personal violence are some of the other common realities attributable to alcohol. Alcohol is itself a public health hazard, putting a strain on medical services with the society having to bear the consequence and cost of medical, pharmacological, psychosocial and rehabilitation and aftercare services. In Canada, the health cost associated with alcohol is higher than that of tobacco, itself a destructive product. That is probably true of Guyana as well. Guyana, including the University of Guyana, needs to undertake research on alcohol and its consequences. DDL does not need to make a contingent contribution to UG’s 60th. Anniversary. In 2021, DDL reported a staggering $5.6 billion in pre-tax profits of which a meagre 20% is paid out as dividends. It can easily fund such an exercise, knowing that the tax laws would allow the cost as tax-deductible, meaning that the activity is in any case partly funded by the State.  On the other hand, a premier institution of higher learning ought to adopt a policy on the type of companies, businesses and products with which it will engage. Alcohol ought to disqualify itself, along with companies whose activities harm the environment, which disregard their corporate social responsibility, which practise aggressive accounting and disclosure policies, or which engage in abusive labour practices.  The Government too must play its part. Management of the health sector requires relevant and timely statistics, better laws on the sale of alcohol as well as on driving under the influence, clear rules on advertising of alcoholic products and increased spending on research, all designed to mitigate some of the more serious consequences of alcohol use across demographics. It must ask itself about the logic of applying a lower corporation tax rate on the producers of alcohol than on those companies that import and sell medical products to treat the consequences of alcohol! Finally, it must ask itself why, and do something about the resistance of public companies to a binding corporate governance code for Guyana. I express my profound disappointment at this decision by the UG Administration, essentially celebrating alcohol. Hopefully, alongside the product at its Campus Store – virtual or otherwise – there will be some warning about the harmful effects of alcohol on users and society.    Sincerely, Christopher Ram

Phi: Build Your Metaverse Land With Your Web3 Activity Blockzeit
Phi: Build Your Metaverse Land With Your Web3 Activity Blockzeit
Phi: Build Your Metaverse Land With Your Web3 Activity – Blockzeit https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/phi-build-your-metaverse-land-with-your-web3-activity-blockzeit/ Recent shifts towards digital interactions and the rise of digitally native consumers have led to different views of the metaverse. One outstanding consideration has been the view of the metaverse as the next major shift in computing. One such development has been the introduction of Phi. Phi comes as a metaverse created from ENS domains and On-chain activities. Building Metaverse Land with your Web3 Activity. Phi advances as a way to visualize on-chain identity and create an open and inclusive metaverse land system based on universal Web3 building blocks. Such Web3 blocks for development include ENs domains and wallet activities. It has been a native norm to visualize an on-chain activity by connecting it to Web2 or using a Web3 portfolio that may include DeBank or Zapper. Nonetheless, metaverse land is on a rising trajectory, an area of rising speculation and hype. However, small-time players have a finite amount of land to create or participate in. Ironically, such a perspective makes the metaverse a small place that is not scalable or inclusive. Consequently, Phi introduces the thought that everyone with an ENs domain or some on-chain activity should have access to the virtual land and have the ability to build on it. Phi is also set upon generating virtual lands from ENs domains and extending them with objects that stand for the on-chain activities. Such things to represent on-chain activities may include achievements, status, and communities. The Functioning of Phi Phi functions in two main components; Phi Lands and Phi objects. Phi land stands for lands that come from ENs domains. ENS works as a Metaverse address system. An example is the vitalik.eth, which stands for Vitalik’s Metaverse land address. Phi Object-Objects tied to various on-chain activities. Thus, using ENS makes Phi decentralized and a typical asset related to people’s on-chain identities. Phi uses ENS to generate lands, making the metaverse in Web3 more decentralized and open to everyone. Phi builds a site for any individual’s identity, just like a Web3 Linktree. Such a move makes not just individuals but DAOs, protocols, and projects own their land through ENS addresses.  Vincent Munene is a freelance writer and a great blockchain enthusiast. U.S. Women’s Basketball Team Scores 145 Points In Rout Of South Korea, Breaking FIBA World Cup Record – ESPN https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-womens-basketball-team-scores-145-points-in-rout-of-south-korea-breaking-fiba-world-cup-record-espn/ 2:05 AM ET Associated Press SYDNEY — A’ja Wilson and the U.S. women’s basketball team put on quite a show, breaking the FIBA Women’s World Cup scoring mark in a record rout of South Korea. Brionna Jones scored 24 points and Wilson added 20 to help the U.S. beat South Korea 145-69 on Monday. Shakira Austin’s layup with 9 seconds left helped the Americans break Brazil’s record of 143 points set in 1990. “I don’t think I’ve ever been part of a team that can score the basketball like this,” Wilson said. “This is crazy, we put up 145 points. I think when you look at us and just knowing how talented we are, we just came together and we play together very, very well.” The U.S. always has the most talented and deepest roster of any team in the World Cup with 12 WNBA stars on the roster. Still, the Americans had never come close to that sort of offensive output during it’s storied World Cup history. The previous team record was 119 points against Angola in 2014 and China in 2006. The scoring margin was also the biggest in U.S. history as well surpassing the 75-point win over Angola in 2014. The win was also the 26th in a row in World Cup play for the Americans, who haven’t lost since the 2006 semifinals when they fell to Russia. The U.S. also won 26 in a row from 1994-2006. The Soviet Union holds the World Cup record with 56 straight wins from 1959-1986. What started with Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and Sylvia Fowles has now been passed on to Breanna Stewart and Wilson. A legacy of excellence that doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon. The U.S. (4-0), which has been playing stellar defense, was challenged by South Korea early. The teams were trading baskets for the first 8 minutes and it was tied at 21 before the Americans took control, scoring the final 11 points of the period. Kahleah Copper came off the bench for the first time of the tournament and scored six points during that spurt. The Americans kept the streak going to start the second quarter, scoring nine of the first 11 points to put the game away. By the time the game reached the half the U.S. was up 68-40, including scoring 44 points in the paint against the undersized Koreans. “We were trying to get the ball inside,” Jones said. “We had an advantage there.” The only suspense in the second half was how many records the Americans could break. They took down their own scoring mark on Sabrina Ionescu’s 3-pointer with 6:15 left in the game and kept putting up points with Austin’s layup capping off the contest. Other records broken on Monday included the 62 field goals made, 36 assists and 94 points in the paint. “Our size was a problem for them and I thought we shared the ball,” U.S. coach Cheryl Reeve said. The Americans were well rested for the game after having their first day off of the tournament on Sunday. Despite the rout, South Korea (1-3) can still advance to the quarterfinals with a win over Puerto Rico on Tuesday. Leeseul Kang, who had 37 points in a win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, scored 10 points. Hyejin Park had 17 to lead the team.

Georgia Tech Coaching Candidates: Deion Sanders Todd Monken Lead Options To Replace Geoff Collins CBS Sports
Georgia Tech Coaching Candidates: Deion Sanders Todd Monken Lead Options To Replace Geoff Collins CBS Sports
Georgia Tech Coaching Candidates: Deion Sanders, Todd Monken Lead Options To Replace Geoff Collins – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/georgia-tech-coaching-candidates-deion-sanders-todd-monken-lead-options-to-replace-geoff-collins-cbs-sports/ Geoff Collins had it all: money, a future and a plan at Georgia Tech. A Star Wars nerd, he planned to weaponize recruiting in the Atlanta region for little ol’ Georgia Tech. Except … none of it came to fruition. Instead, the Yellow Jackets floundered following the exit of 11-year stalwart Paul Johnson, and moving on from the triple option was only the least of Collins’ problems as he attempted to turnaround the program. There was a time when Georgia Tech was considered prime expansion territory for the Big Ten. Not anymore. GT became punchless on offense, Collins never matched the promise he developed as a defensive coordinator at Mississippi State and Florida, and after a 1-3 start in his fourth season (10-28 overall) with no better than three wins in his prior campaigns, he got shown the door. Let’s take a look at the top candidates to replace Collins in Atlanta. Deion Sanders, Jackson State coach: Coach Prime might actually work in a crowded media market where Deion was adored as a member of the Falcons and Braves. After a 4-3 record in his first COVID-19 shortened season with the Tigers, Coach Prime led Jackson State to an 11-2 record (9-0 SWAC) in his second campaign. The Tigers are 4-0 to start 2022 while outscoring opponents 190-37. It makes too much sense. Shawn Clark, Appalachian State coach: Being a Sun Belt coach potentially stepping up to the Power Five level would be a concern as Scott Satterfield is already struggling at Louisville. But Clark’s energy is undeniable, and it’s clear he has the Mountaineers buying into his philosophy. Todd Monken, Georgia offensive coordinator: Monken was last mentioned in this space a week ago when Arizona State fired Herm Edwards. He has developed Stetson Bennett, won a national championship and sure as heck knows what’s wrong with Tech. He game plans against them each season. Tyson Helton, Western Kentucky coach: This offensive mind is ready to make the leap to a moribund program. Clay’s brother is 26-17 in four seasons leading the Hilltoppers. The Gainesville, Florida, product who has coached at UAB and Tennessee, he has a lot of experience in the surrounding area. Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina coach: If Chadwell does not snag one of the top available jobs this cycle, it will be legitimate to ask whether he waited to long to make the jump. He’s not Brent Venables, after all. His success with the Chanticleers is undeniable taking the program from 8-16 across his first two campaigns to 25-3 over his last three seasons. Andy Kotelnicki, Kansas offensive coordinator: Lance Leipold is going to hate me for including him, but Kotelnicki is a chess master with innovative set pieces. He’d kill overseeing the whole show at a Power Five program in a recruiting hotbed.
