Terra Luna Classic Crash To $0.000255? LUNC Price Prediction October – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/terra-luna-classic-crash-to-0-000255-lunc-price-prediction-october-cryptonews/ Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) has continued to go lower in price over the last few days. Now trading at just $0.000278 anxious holders are anticipating another move to the downside as the bulls lose momentum.  Will Terra Luna Classic recover? LUNC is available on eToro. Cryptoassets are highly volatile and unregulated. No consumer protection. Tax on profits may apply. Terra Luna Classic Price Prediction 2022 Just recently Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) lost a key support level of $0.000283 from a chart pattern known as a bear pennant.  A bear pennant is known as a bearish pattern which usually results in continuation to the downside. The trend prior to the pennant formation, is usually also down, hence why it is a continuation pattern.  We have just seen the first phase of the bear pennant play out, which is an aggressive downtrend. The pennant we see now which looks like a symmetrical triangle is the second phase, known as consolidation.  Traders would be looking for a potential breakout for Terra Luna Classic and are now targeting the key support levels of $0.000264 and $0.000255.  LUNC/BUSD – Daily Time Frame. The technical target of the bear pennant would bring the price of Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) down a total of 33.25% if the above support levels can not be held.  Bearish chart patterns don’t typically always have to play out by text book. Sometimes we can experience fake outs in the crypto market. Traders with a contrarian mindset might actually be tempted to go long at these particular support levels as the chance of a bullish reversal would become higher.  Many long-term holders of Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) will also deploy a dollar cost averaging strategy at key support levels and buy the red candles as opposed to green.  Should Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) lose a key support level of $0.000255 there is a risk that we might see negative continuation down to the $0.000165 price level. I speculate that LUNC will touch down at $0.000255 which would be an attractive level for buyers to rush in and pump the price back up to around $0.00033, this is where the bulls would have an opportunity to strike back and test for resistances one more time.  Terra Luna Classic Video Analysis Traders who have been in the crypto markets for a while now will know that Septembers are usually quite rocky for the blockchain markets. It is extremely rare that September is a fruitful month for Bitcoin and other crypto assets.  Whilst merely dubious speculation, there is a good chance that the markets could flip bullish as statistically over 75% of Octobers yield positive returns for Bitcoin.  Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) can be purchased on eToro. He has reached triple digits in rushing yards twice in three games this season and has recorded for six of West Virginia’s 10 rushing TDs. Four different quarterbacks saw action for the Mountaineers on Saturday, with three throwing a touchdown pass and the other running for a score. Vigilante Predator Catchers Infiltrate Criminal Justice System The Washington Post
Vigilante Predator Catchers Infiltrate Criminal Justice System The Washington Post
Vigilante Predator Catchers Infiltrate Criminal Justice System – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/vigilante-predator-catchers-infiltrate-criminal-justice-system-the-washington-post/ The Washington Post Exclusive It began with a live-streamed shaming in an Olive Garden parking lot. It ended with an Indiana cop on trial for child solicitation. September 22, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. EDT DANVILLE, Ind. — The jury was waiting. They’d cringed when they learned what kind of case they’d hear in this Indiana courthouse. Child solicitation. But don’t worry, the county prosecutors assured them. There would be no graphic pictures. There would be no testimony from an abused child. Because in this case, there was no child. The man charged with the crime — a 37-year-old veteran named Joshua Clark — didn’t know the 14-year-old girl he thought he was texting with was actually an adult, prosecutors said. Law enforcement had been using this tactic for years, investing millions to train detectives on how to go online, pretend to be teenagers and wait for predators to emerge. Clark knew they conducted sting operations like these; after serving in the Army and working in a prison, he’d been hired as a police officer himself. That was, until he was arrested and fired. Now on this July morning, the jury was going to meet the person responsible for catching this cop. The prosecutor stood up. “The state calls Eric Schmutte,” she said. The courtroom doors opened. But no detective walked in. Instead, there was a man in a polo shirt. His dreadlocks were tucked into a ponytail. After raising his right hand and swearing to tell the truth, Schmutte, a 35-year-old welder, began to explain why he was there. He wasn’t just a welder. He was the founder of an organization called Predator Catchers Indianapolis. “Our mission,” he said, “is to expose men and women that are online, preying on kids.” “And when you say ‘expose,’ ” the prosecutor said, “what’s your plan to expose them?” “Put their faces out online,” Schmutte explained. “Post videos so that community knows … these men and women are out here, and they’re okay with the idea of meeting up with your children for sexual activity.” For two years, Schmutte had been taking it upon himself to do what the police do. Go on dating and social media apps. Pretend to be 14 or 12 or 8. Agree to meet up with an adult to do something sexual. When the alleged predators show up, Schmutte and a team of impassioned volunteers are waiting, ready to scold, shame and shout, live-streaming every moment of the confrontation on the internet. When Schmutte first started out, no police officers or prosecutors wanted to talk to him. They dismissed him as a dangerous vigilante. Law enforcement agencies had long decried imitators of the NBC series “To Catch a Predator,” which was canceled in 2008 after one of its targets killed himself. There were too many potential perils, officials warned, when average citizens tried to play the hero. These days, things are different. “Almost every detective wants to work with us,” Schmutte said. In Indiana and across the country, the criminal justice system is reckoning with an unprecedented boom in vigilante activity. In the past three years, at least 160 groups have been “catching predators” in the United States, according to a Washington Post analysis of their social media posts. This year alone, a YouTube channel tracking catchers has counted more than 920 stings by amateurs. Some are fueled by right-wing rhetoric about “groomers” and the need to “save the children.” Some are parents fearful for their own kids, or, like Schmutte, say they are called by God to do this work. Some make thousands of dollars from clicks and donations. They argue they are raising awareness about online safety, empowering survivors to speak up and making potential child abusers think twice before lurking online. Meanwhile, the very dangers that police and prosecutors always feared have come to fruition. One predator catcher was recently shot during a confrontation. Another forced a man to jump in a freezing river. Catchers and their fans have aimed to destroy reputations, only to realize they had the wrong guy. In the D.C. suburbs, where one group was specifically targeting Democratic officials, a woman who was told she was going to help stop child abuse said she ended up being used as bait and repeatedly groped. And yet, police and prosecutors have increasingly been willing to file charges against the vigilantes’ chosen targets. Catchers brag about the number of “preds” they’ve sent to jail. In Atlantic City this summer, police arrested 17 men in two weeks — all stemming from stings by what they called “concerned citizens.” Though officers cannot provide formal training to vigilantes, many privately advise them on how to improve their tactics to get convictions. “It’s a whole lot of behind-the-scenes condoning. There’s no doubt about it,” said Indiana State Police Capt. Bryan Harper, commander of the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force. Experienced catchers like Schmutte now direct their targets to meet in the jurisdictions most friendly to their cause. That’s how, in May 2021, Joshua Clark ended up in the western Indianapolis suburbs, where he was told “14-year-old Mackenzie” would be waiting. The stakeout unfolded in the parking lot of an Olive Garden. By the time Schmutte was done live-streaming, he had a direct message from a local detective who followed his group on Facebook. He handed over his chat history with Clark, and before long, he was announcing on social media that “Josh the Cop” had been arrested. When you wear the right ….. or wrong shirt while being arrested for Child Solicitation and Child Seduction. This suspect is innocent until proven guilty. #comeonman pic.twitter.com/Eg8282Db7J — Avon Indiana Police Department (@AvonPolice) May 27, 2021 Then, something unusual happened. Unlike the rest of Schmutte’s targets, Clark refused to take a plea deal. He wanted a jury to decide his fate. As prosecutors across the country have argued over whether to take cases from groups like Schmutte’s, this was the very situation many sought to avoid: an entire trial based mainly on the testimony and tactics of a self-appointed predator catcher. Live-streamed vigilante justice officially infiltrating the American justice system. If this jury rejected the catchers’ tactics, and let the defendant go free, would that embolden child predators everywhere? If this jury endorsed the actions of the predator catchers, and found the defendant guilty, would that encourage even more vigilante groups to form? In a tiny courtroom in Hendricks County, it would depend on a man with 5 million YouTube views, 200,000 Facebook followers and now, 12 jurors watching him testify. Schmutte sat directly across from Clark, who was rocking side to side in a baby blue button-up shirt. Clark’s only supporter in the courtroom was his mother. He was represented by a free public defender. “I want you to visualize a real predator and real prey,” Clark’s attorney told the jurors in her opening statement. “A lion and a zebra.” Listen closely to what happened between Schmutte and Clark, she said. Read the text messages. Watch the Olive Garden showdown. And then decide for yourselves: “Who is chasing who?” By the time Schmutte saw Clark’s picture appear on a dating app, he’d been perfecting his teenager impression for a year. He called adults “grown ups.” He punctuated references to school with a vomit emoji . He promised his mom didn’t look through his texts. In his 20s, Schmutte had watched every episode of “To Catch a Predator,” hosted by Chris Hansen, multiple times. Then, in the early days of the pandemic, he discovered hundreds of YouTube videos from the United States, Britain and Canada, in which ordinary people were the ones exposing bad guys. They had T-shirts emblazoned with sheriff badges that said “Ped Patrol,” and slogans like “Gotta catch ’em all.” Schmutte had already been reading false conspiracy theories online about secretive “elites” who exploit children and drink their blood. He wasn’t entirely sure he believed them. But he was an avid Bible reader, and he liked the passages about hidden evils being brought to light. So he downloaded Grindr, used a photo of a European pop star for his profile picture, and got to work. “Yes I like older guys,” Schmutte typed to his very first target. “I’m only 14 though.” “It’s ok,” the man replied. “When do you want to meet?” Within two weeks, Schmutte and a group of friends were outside a Walmart, cameras rolling. “I want you to apologize to every single person that has ever been molested in their life,” Schmutte instructed the man. “’Cause you know what would happen if you had sex with a 14-year-old boy? It could f— up their mind forever, bro.” He shared his videos on Facebook and YouTube, and watched the comments appear. “You are a true hero to all victims thank you” “Our own Chris Hansen” “Thank God there are people out there like you.” Just like that, it felt as if the entire course of Schmutte’s life had changed. After high school, he’d been arrested for drunken driving and marijuana possession, spending years on probation. He dropped out of community college three times. He got a job making engine parts after his parents paid for welding school. What he really wanted to be was a professional musician, to shred on his guitar in front of an adoring crowd night after night. But all three of his bands had broken up. Now, he’d become one of the few Black predator catchers on YouTube. As his online following grew, his parents told him they were proud of him. And the thrill of a live-streamed catch, he said, was even better than being onstage. He made profiles on Tinder, Skout, MeetMe, Instagram, Snapchat, Kik and every other app where he knew adults tried to lure vulnerable and unsupervised children. H...

UK Government Lifts Fracking Ban Despite Opposition | Business News | Wfmz.com – 69News WFMZ-TV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/uk-government-lifts-fracking-ban-despite-opposition-business-news-wfmz-com-69news-wfmz-tv/ LONDON (AP) — The U.K. government confirmed Thursday that it’s lifting a ban on fracking in England, arguing that the move will help boost the country’s energy security amid Russia’s war in Ukraine. Prime Minister Liz Truss announced within days of taking office earlier this month that she would reverse a 2019 ban on hydraulic fracturing, a controversial technique used to extract oil and gas from shale rock. Britain needs to “explore all avenues available to us through solar, wind, oil and gas production -– so it’s right that we’ve lifted the pause to realize any potential sources of domestic gas,” business and energy secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg said Thursday. Truss said she “will not be going ahead with anything that carries a risk,” but stressed that “energy security is vital.” Officials also backed an expansion of licenses for oil and gas operations in the North Sea, drawing anger from environmental groups Thursday. The Conservative government suspended fracking in November 2019 after a series of tremors were recorded at the U.K.’s only shale wells near Blackpool in northwest England. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said lifting the ban means future applications will be considered “where there is local support.” Developers will need to have the necessary licences and permissions before they can commence operations. Fracking involves injecting high-pressure water deep underground to extract oil or gas from rock. Environmental groups have long opposed the practice, saying it can pollute groundwater and contributes to climate change. Critics also say it’s an ineffective way to generate energy, doesn’t help lower steeply rising energy bills, and is opposed by communities wherever it is attempted. Rees-Mogg faced an angry backlash from lawmakers, including some from his own Conservative Party. Opposition parties accused the Conservative government of breaking its own manifesto pledge in 2019, when the party promised it wouldn’t lift the ban on fracking unless the practice was scientifically proven to be safe amid concerns over earthquakes. “Even when the government went ‘all out for shale’, the frackers produced no energy for the U.K. but managed to create two holes in a muddy field, traffic, noise and a colossal amount of controversy,” Greenpeace energy security campaigner Philip Evans said. A government-commissioned review on the risks of shale gas extraction by the British Geological Survey was inconclusive, saying more data was needed. Officials argued that the “limited current understanding of U.K. geology and onshore shale resources” shouldn’t be a barrier to fracking. “It is clear that we need more sites drilled in order to gather better data and improve the evidence base,” a statement from the government’s business department said. “Lifting the pause on shale gas extraction will enable drilling to gather this further data, building an understanding of U.K. shale gas resources and how we can safely carry out shale gas extraction in the U.K. where there is local support.” The other parts of the U.K. — Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales — aren’t affected by Thursday’s announcement. Meanwhile, the government’s approval for more oil and gas operations in the North Sea means that more than 100 new licenses are expected to be granted from next month. Friends of the Earth Scotland said that the new round of licensing suggests that Britain’s government “is effectively denying the reality of the climate emergency.” Follow AP’s climate coverage at https://apnews.com/hub/climate-and-environment Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. Healthy Habits That Led To Queen Elizabeth II’s Long Life – Health Enews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/healthy-habits-that-led-to-queen-elizabeth-iis-long-life-health-enews/ As mourning continues around the world after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, some are beginning to wonder if she had a secret to her long life. After 96 years in the spotlight, we know that the queen lived a relatively healthy lifestyle. While not everyone is privy to her resources, engaging in healthy habits can increase your chances of living a longer, healthier life. “As someone who cares for many people in their 80s, 90s and even 100’s, the patients who are the healthiest are those who are on top of their health and well-being,” says Dr. Kevin Koo, family medicine physician at Advocate Medical Group in Park Ridge, Ill. “They go to doctors’ appointments. They socialize often. They read. They travel. They volunteer. They exercise,” he says. So what was the queen’s secret to a long life you may ask? Eating a balanced diet – The queen was known to eat small meals throughout the day which recent studies have shown can increase your energy and improve your metabolism. Her meals included grilled proteins and an abundance of vegetables. But don’t worry, the queen still indulged in some of her favorite foods such as dark chocolate and biscuits. Dr. Koo says that balance and not overindulging in anything are important when it comes to your diet. Daily social interaction – It’s no surprise that the queen led a busy social schedule. Feeling socially connected has both mental and physical benefits such as improved brain function and decreased feelings of depression. “Emotional and psychological well-being is something I cannot emphasize more, especially since the pandemic hit the world,” says Dr. Koo. “How we view ourselves will dictate how well we care for ourselves. Never shy away from asking for help. Family, friends, primary care doctors, whomever.” Although you may not be able to see your friends or family members daily, a phone or video call is a great way to stay socially connected. Engaging in physical activity – While you may not have castle grounds to wander, walking outside or on a treadmill for at least 150 minutes per week, according to the American Heart Association, can boost your overall health. Swimming was another way the queen stayed active in her earlier years. Spending time outdoors – She not only enjoyed playing with her many corgis outside of her royal estates, but she also enjoyed horseback riding. Studies have found that being active outside can significantly improve your mental health. Whether you are taking a walk outside, playing soccer with your child or throwing a Frisbee, these activities promote a healthier life. Finding peace through prayer – Whether you are spiritual or not, research suggests that the act of prayer can help reduce stress and therefore improve mental health. The queen notably referenced the act of prayer in many of her televised messages throughout her reign. You can start the act of prayer by practicing meditation. Finding an outlet for your passion – The queen dedicated her life to supporting hundreds of charities over her nearly 71-year reign. Whether you volunteer or have a hobby that brings you joy, engaging in those activities can increase your physical activity, increase your social network and even gain new skills. It’s never too late to make lifestyle changes. In fact, Dr. Koo says, “Weight loss, eating better, exercising, traveling, counseling, etc. can all have immediate benefits, so there is no time than the present to start making changes.” Are you looking for more ways you can make healthy lifestyle changes? Review Calls For Shake-Up Of English Domestic Cricket The Indian Express
Review Calls For Shake-Up Of English Domestic Cricket The Indian Express
Review Calls For Shake-Up Of English Domestic Cricket – The Indian Express https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/review-calls-for-shake-up-of-english-domestic-cricket-the-indian-express/ Domestic cricket in England could see a major shake-up if county sides vote through proposals that would create a six-team top division and reduce the amount of games played across formats. Former England test captain Andrew Strauss spent the last six months overseeing a high performance review for the England and Wales Cricket Board, launched in the aftermath of the 4-0 loss in Australia in the Ashes. The review presented 17 recommendations, 15 of which fall under the remit of the ECB and already have the required backing. Two key proposals involve a wholesale reorganization of the county calendar and need the support of at least 12 of the 18 first-class counties to go ahead. Strauss’ panel advocates a reduction from 14 matches per team in the County Championship to 10, with a six-team top division sitting above two secondary conferences who would play off for one annual promotion. Games would be played more evenly throughout the season in this four-day format, rather than the current model that sees matches crammed into the start and the end of the campaign — either side of the new Hundred tournament. The men’s High Performance Review has today published its final report – setting out 17 recommendations for cricket to consider and implement The full report is available to view: — England and Wales Cricket Board (@ECB_cricket) September 22, 2022 The Blast, a Twenty20 tournament and a popular cash cow for several counties, would also be pared back from 14 group games to 10, with the 50-over Royal London Cup moved to April as a curtain-raising knockout tournament. The overall reduction in days is intended to create time for more rest, coaching and analysis, creating more intense competition. While that is likely to go down well with a large proportions of players, many of whom have found the 2022 model an unsatisfactory mish-mash of competitions and formats, there is a clear financial implication at stake. Fewer matches will mean less revenue, not only at the gate but also among the membership, who will effectively see less cricket for their money. Strauss, whose mission statement is to make England the best cross-format team in the world within five years, said he believes the “status quo is not an option.” “Everyone in the game is telling us this. We have listened, we must now act,” Strauss said. “I honestly feel this set of proposals can make a massive difference to the game. Of course, anything in our domestic structure is very contentious and it’s for the game to go away, talk and debate. We can still do a lot of good without the final two recommendations, but I think they’re a good demonstration of the hard decisions we need to make as a game, and how serious we are in trying to achieve this ambition.” Strauss said he wants to have a “coherent schedule.” “The answer to quality is not quantity. A higher standard, more intense red-ball competition should be a great thing for members, for players, for ground staff, for coaches. We need to understand it’s not all about volume,” he said. “We think it’s a very complete package but there are going to be elements of it that certain people feel are not in their interest, and we understand that. That’s the reality of the domestic structure. You can’t solve one thing without unsolving another.” A final decision on the structural changes should come by the end of November, but the earliest they could be adopted is the 2024 season — meaning one more year of a structure that Strauss’ team has effectively discredited. “We’ve been in a race against time to get these recommendations out there so that the counties can vote on it for the 2023 season, but I think we’ve run out of time,” he said. “But these are difficult conversations and important decisions. Sometimes you’ve got to look at the bigger picture and understand that it’s better to walk to the right solution than jump off the edge of a cliff.”

Crypto M&A Slows As Its Own Type Of Winter Sets In Crunchbase News
Crypto M&A Slows As Its Own Type Of Winter Sets In – Crunchbase News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/crypto-ma-slows-as-its-own-type-of-winter-sets-in-crunchbase-news/ After a fast start to the year, M&A deal-making in crypto has hit its own type of “winter.” Earlier this month, one-click checkout company Bolt dropped plans to buy crypto and payment infrastructure company Wyre for $1.5 billion. The news came just more than three weeks after digital asset investment firm Galaxy Digital called off its proposed $1.2 billion acquisition of Palo Alto, California-based BitGo. Search less. Close more. Grow your revenue with all-in-one prospecting solutions powered by the leader in private-company data. The abandoned deals—with about $2.7 billion combined—help illustrate what appears to be a cooling M&A landscape as the crypto industry tries to find its level after hitting all-time highs last year. The market According to Crunchbase data, M&A activity targeting VC-backed crypto startups hit an all-time high in the first quarter of the year when 16 were announced. However, deal pace has reverted to barely a trickle, with just seven deals in the last nearly two full quarters. While deal count has slowed to a drip, there also have not been many large deals. Silvergate Bank’s purchase of the tech assets of blockchain-based payment network Diem—the stablecoin originally developed by Facebook engineers—for $182 million is the largest deal involving a VC-backed entity for the year. Perhaps that should not come as a surprise given the current market conditions. All of the dealmaking announced in the first quarter came just weeks or months after Bitcoin and many cryptocurrencies hit all-time highs in November—with Bitcoin itself flirting with $68,000. Since those heady days, Bitcoin has fallen more than 70% and has frequently traded below $19,000. Just as investors have abandoned the cryptocurrency market, some venture investors also have slowed the pace of their investment in the sector. Investment in VC-backed crypto companies slowed during the first half of the year and seems unlikely to hit last year’s high of nearly $19 billion. M&A deal-making seems to have followed suit, as companies like Bolt and Galaxy Digital had second thoughts on the deals both companies announced in the second quarter to much fanfare before calling them off in Q3. Looking for a deal That is not to say that deal flow will continue to be slow or completely stop—in fact, it could pick up. It only makes sense for companies that announced deals early in the year to pull out as valuations around the crypto sector have dropped. Those drops in valuations could bring in more buyers as companies and individuals look for a good deal. FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried has shown he is more than ready to look for possible deals and said in an recent interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box that the exchange giant has at least $1 billion to use on acquisitions and bailouts. FTX is the front-runner to buy the assets of crypto lender Voyager Digital—which filed for bankruptcy in July—CoinDesk reported last week. Crypto exchange giant Coinbase also has made its intentions in the space clear. During the company’s Q2 earnings call last month, Coinbase’s President and COO Emilie Choi said the company will continue to be active across both ventures and M&A—adding that those tools have helped the company gain access to innovation in the crypto ecosystem. “It’s an area that has helped us gain access to the innovation happening in the crypto ecosystem,” she said. “And crypto winters we view as builders’ markets. It’s often the best time for us to be greedy when others are fearful.” To see more of our Web3 coverage, visit Crunchbase’s Web3 Tracker—a new site to look at startups, investors and funding news concerning all aspects of Web3, cryptocurrencies and blockchain. The Rundown Of U.S. And China Relations News Missouri State News
The Rundown Of U.S. And China Relations – News – Missouri State News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-rundown-of-u-s-and-china-relations-news-missouri-state-news/ Tensions continue to rise between the U.S. and China, but what does this mean for U.S. citizens?  “The relations between the U.S. and China have the power to change your life,” said Dr. Dennis Hickey, professor emeritus of the political science department at Missouri State University.  “U.S.-China relations are poor, perhaps the worst since both sides issued the Joint Communiqué and established official relations in 1979,” said Dr. Michael Masterson, assistant professor of the political science department at Missouri State.   U.S. and China relations decline  Several factors influence the relationship between the U.S. and China.    The shift in structural power challenges U.S.-China relations.   The U.S. has been the most powerful country for decades. But China is on track to overtake the U.S. in economic power.    “In China, there is a feeling that the U.S. is unwilling to give them a role in the international system commensurate with its current power,” Masterson said. “In the U.S., some fear the Chinese government may alter or overturn aspects of the international system valued by the U.S.”  Differing ideologies also cause tension.   For example, many U.S. officials condemned the human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, so they sanctioned some of the Chinese officials involved.   Some Chinese officials saw the sanctions as hypocritical.  “This leads them to believe the U.S. sanctioned officials to contain China rather than to prioritize human rights,” Masterson said.  The ideological differences and shifts in power create constant challenges in their relationship. But the trade wars during the Trump administration drastically increased tensions.   And tensions continue to rise.   “What began as a trade war during the Trump administration has degenerated into a so-called cold war propelled by different ideologies and a host of contentious disputes,” Hickey said.    “Chinese leaders have been disappointed with the Biden administration,” Masterson said. “The tone of the administration is more moderate. But it does not seem to have altered the approach of the Trump administration to China, including on trade restrictions.”  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan in August is the most recent event that aggravated tensions between the two countries.  “China believed Pelosi’s visit was yet another example of the U.S. violating its commitments to China over Taiwan,” Masterson said.   In retaliation to Pelosi’s visit, China launched military exercises and suspended its cooperation with the U.S. on several issues, including climate change.  As tensions rise, international peace and stability are at risk.   A threat to the future  The most apparent effect of tense U.S.-China relations on its citizens is through trade.  “China provides products to the U.S. more cheaply than it could produce on its own,” Masterson said. “Without trade relations between the U.S. and China, prices would be much higher and products scarcer.”  But the relations affect citizens on a larger scale than the price and availability of products. Tense relations between the U.S. and China put international peace and stability in danger and have impacted many areas:   The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.  Global environmental degradation, including climate change.  Threats to global health, including pandemics.  Dwindling energy supplies.  “In the worst-case scenario, tensions with China could force the U.S. to ramp up military spending,” said Dr. Gabriel Ondetti, Master of International Affairs program director at Missouri State.  “This would cause higher taxes or lower investment in other areas. It could even lead to armed conflict.”  U.S.-China relations have powerful influence over the state of the two countries.  “Cooperation is essential if the global community ever hopes to resolve its pressing problems,” Hickey said.  Educate yourself   Learn more about the relations between the U.S. and China at the upcoming event, “Inevitable Conflict? The Future of U.S.-China Relations.”   The discussion will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 in Karls Hall, Room 101.   About the Master of International Affairs program

Stateline: More Children Have Gained Health Insurance During Pandemic The rate of children without health insurance declined during the COVID-19 pandemic, likely the result of a provision passed by Congress that barred states from dropping anyone from Medicaid during the public health emergency. According to an analysis of new U.S. Census Bureau data by Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families, the child uninsurance rate in 2021 was 5.4%, compared with 5.7% in 2019, the year before the pandemic took hold. COVID put a lot of things in perspective for people.” While the pandemic has spurred bucket-list vacations for older adults, Bain is seeing travel bookings across all ages. “It’s really everyone,” she says. “We are super busy. It’s like pre-COVID numbers again.” Indeed, Canadians have been eager to explore throughout 2022 as the travel industry bounced back. Tourism spending grew 1.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2022, with travelers spending $15.7 billion, according to Statistics Canada. Domestic tourism spending grew 2.9 per cent in the first quarter to $13.5 billion. In a November 2021 report, Destination Canada, the country’s national tourism marketing organization, identified health and wellness travel, nature and outdoor tourism, Indigenous experiences and luxury travel as growing trends. Why Working In Your 60s Can Help Maximize Social Security – 69News WFMZ-TV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/why-working-in-your-60s-can-help-maximize-social-security-69news-wfmz-tv/ How much you receive in Social Security retirement benefits depends on your earnings history. The formula for calculating benefits is based on your 35 highest earning years indexed for inflation. But there’s one thing retirees need to know. Those inflation adjustments stop when you turn 60. That can make working in your 60s much more valuable to someone looking to make the most of their Social Security benefits. Image source: Getty Images. Earning in today’s dollars You have the opportunity to earn in today’s inflation-adjusted dollars by working in your 60s while the rest of your past earnings are no longer adjusted for inflation. If you turn 60 in 2023, you’ll likely have earnings dating back to the 1980s. Let’s say you started your career in 1986 with a salary of $25,000. Based on Social Security’s wage index, those earnings will count as $84,788 in the calculation of your benefits. But that’s the maximum amount they’ll ever be worth. Maybe that’s equivalent to your earnings in 2022. But if you get a simple adjustment in your wages for inflation next year, you’ll earn more. Meanwhile, your previous earnings won’t get indexed any higher. That’s especially pertinent in high-inflation environments. As such, by working at 61, you’ll increase your Social Security benefits, even without any real (inflation-adjusted) wage growth from when you were 23. Of course, most people see real wage growth over the course of their careers. Some of your highest earning years Your 60s may offer some of your biggest career opportunities. The typical American earns their highest salaries in their 50s, but there are still plenty of well-paid positions for those in their 60s. The average 25- to 34-year-old earns just under $50,000 per year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Meanwhile, the average 55- to 64-year-old earns nearly $10,000 more per year. That’s a 20% increase. If you’re earning 20% more than you did in your 20s and 30s and getting the benefit of inflation, you’ll provide a substantial boost to your Social Securities benefits. Let’s go back to the example of someone who earned $25,000 in 1986 as a 23-year-old. By 2022, they’ve increased their real earnings by 20% and now bring home $101,746. If the person continues to work in their 60s, receiving an average 3% raise each year, they’ll have earnings of $117,951 by age 65. That would increase their average indexed monthly earnings by $79 by replacing their age-23 salary in their top-35 earning years. Even just an extra $79 per month in average earnings translates into more than $300 in extra Social Security payments per year at full retirement age. More likely, the average earnings increase would be much higher as ages 61 through 64 replace other low-earning years that have stopped adjusting for inflation. If those five extra years of work translate into something like a $350 increase in total, it’s nearly $1,350 in extra Social Security benefits per year. And if they delay benefits until age 70, it’s more than $1,650 in extra benefits. For someone abiding by the 4% rule, that’s the equivalent of an extra $41,000 in retirement savings. Consider your options If you’ve had a lucrative career and you’ve maxed out Social Security wages in most years, you probably won’t get much more out of Social Security by working in your 60s. If, however, you’ve mostly been an average earner or even a slightly above-average earner, you may get a lot out of continuing to work. You can look up your own wage indexes on the Social Security Administration’s website based on the year you become eligible to collect benefits. If you’re on the fence between retiring early and continuing a few more years, you may as well do a little math to see how much more you can get from Social Security by working past age 60. The $18,984 Social Security bonus most retirees completely overlook If you’re like most Americans, you’re a few years (or more) behind on your retirement savings. But a handful of little-known “Social Security secrets” could help ensure a boost in your retirement income. For example: one easy trick could pay you as much as $18,984 more… each year! Once you learn how to maximize your Social Security benefits, we think you could retire confidently with the peace of mind we’re all after. Looking For The Perfect Lunch Plan Under 400 Calories? Here’s The Idea – NDTV Doctor https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/looking-for-the-perfect-lunch-plan-under-400-calories-heres-the-idea-ndtv-doctor/ Home »  Nutrition »  Looking For The Perfect Lunch Plan Under 400 Calories? Here’s The Idea Nutritionist Pooja Bhargava shared a good idea for lunch under 400 calories.   By: DoctorNDTV    Edited By:  NDTV Health Desk Updated: Sep 22, 2022 04:29 IST 6-Min Read Healthy Eating: Poha is another healthy and delicious breakfast recipe Planning healthy meals can be a task at times when you are surrounded by oily, greasy food items. A lot of other factors also influence your choice of meals. If you have a proper breakfast right during the start of your day, you can have a balanced meal during lunch followed by some healthy snacks and a light dinner ultimately. However, if you are health conscious and wondering how to plan a proper meal for lunch, nutritionist Pooja Bhargava has something interesting to share. Through a post on Instagram, she shows a nice tip to enjoy lunch under 400 calories.      Going by the post, Pooja shows a plate of delicious vegetable paneer uttapam accompanied by a blob of green chutney on the side. There’s a bowl of flavourful sambar as well kept on the side. Don’t miss the colourful bright salad kept in a bowl beside the platter. According to Pooja, this is a perfect lunch plan under 400 calories. She explains that the meal carries 14 grams of protein and 15 grams fibre. If you wish to have a healthy meal under 400 calories, now you know what to cook at home. Take a look: Not just for lunch, Pooja Bhargava has something interesting to share related to other meals of the day as well. In one of her videos on Instagram, she states the reason why homemade poha is a healthy breakfast option as compared to the popular cornflakes. Many people tend to believe that cornflakes are healthy and therefore, they must be savoured as the first meal of the day. However, that’s not true. According to Pooja, here are some of the benefits of having poha: 1)Poha is a great breakfast option since it has healthy carbs that provide energy to the body to carry out its daily functions. 2) You can increase the nutritive value of poha by topping it with sprouts, pomegranate, dhaniya patta, peanuts, and coconut. 3) Poha promotes a slow and steady release of sugar into the bloodstream, thereby preventing any sudden spikes in blood sugar levels. 4) This food item is also good because it doesn’t cause bloating. In fact, it’s easily digestible and keeps you full for a long while. 5) Poha can help in preventing iron deficiency. Pooja advocates that poha is a great breakfast option, but you have to make it healthier and stay mindful of the portion you are consuming. She says that you should not fall prey to the marketing done by the cornflakes company. The packaged cereal is not healthy. Yes, the flakes may be low in fat, but they make up for that in the amount of sugar present in them, making them unhealthy for daily consumption, Pooja adds. So, ultimately, you have to look for healthier alternatives for your meals that will help you grow and stay fit. Disclaimer: This content including advice provides generic information only. Wednesdays Sports In Brief The Washington Post
Wednesday’s Sports In Brief – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/wednesdays-sports-in-brief-the-washington-post/ BASEBALL NEW YORK — Aaron Judge disappointed fans by staying stuck at 60 homers but doubled twice and scored on Oswaldo Cabrera’s first-inning grand slam that started the New York Yankees to a 14-2 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates. A day after hitting home run No. 60 to spark a stunning five-run, ninth-inning rally capped by Giancarlo Stanton’s game-ending slam, Judge doubled on the first pitch to him in the first and fifth innings. Given another time up during an eight-run eighth inning, Judge walked on four pitches from rookie Eric Stout as the sellout crowd of 46,175 booed loudly. Judge went 2 for 4 and with 14 games left and remained one home run shy of tying the American League record set by the Yankees’ Roger Maris in 1961. Judge leads the AL in average (.317), home runs and RBIs (128), in position to become the first Triple Crown winner in a decade. Cabrera and Gleyber Torres had five RBIs each. Torres homered twice in the eighth inning, raising his season total to 23. SAN DIEGO — Blake Snell held St. Louis hitless until Albert Pujols beat the shift for a single with two outs in the seventh inning and the San Diego Padres beat the NL Central-leading Cardinals 1-0. Snell (8-9) allowed two hits in seven innings on 117 pitches and struck out 13 to tie his career high. The left-hander’s brilliant effort carried the Padres to their fifth straight win and extended the rotation’s scoreless streak to 27 2/3 innings. The Padres have shut out the Cardinals in the first two games of the three-game series, keeping Pujols at 698 career homers. San Diego stayed 1 1/2 games ahead of Philadelphia for the NL’s second wild-card spot. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals fired longtime executive Dayton Moore, ending the roller-coaster tenure of an influential general manager and president who took the club from perennial 100-game loser to two World Series and the 2015 championship before its quick return to mediocrity. Royals owner John Sherman, who retained Moore after acquiring the club from David Glass in 2019, announced the move during a news conference at which Moore spoke briefly before quietly slipping out of the room. Sherman tried a mild shakeup to the front office last offseason, elevating Moore from general manager to president of baseball operations while giving J.J. Picollo the GM title. But the awkward splitting of jobs never worked out, and Sherman decided to move forward with Picollo handling all aspects of baseball operations. Picollo was the first person Moore hired when he took over the Royals in 2006. NBA Robert Sarver says he has started the process of selling the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, a move that comes only eight days after he was suspended by the NBA over workplace misconduct including racist speech and hostile behavior toward employees. Sarver made the announcement Wednesday, saying selling “is the best course of action.” “But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that that is no longer possible — that whatever good I have done, or could still do, is outweighed by things I have said in the past,” Sarver wrote in a statement. “For those reasons, I am beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and Mercury.” Sarver bought the teams in July 2004. He is not the lone owner, but the primary one. CHICAGO — Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball is scheduled to have surgery on his left knee next week for the second time in less than a year and figures to miss the start of the season. The Bulls said Ball will undergo an arthroscopic debridement in Los Angeles. He will be re-evaluated in four to six weeks. Ball played a major role in Chicago’s resurgence last year after being acquired from New Orleans in a sign-and-trade. He was limited to 35 games and did not play after Jan. 14. Ball had surgery for a torn meniscus two weeks later. He experienced discomfort when he tried to ramp up activities. The Bulls had him rest for 10 days, hoping it would resolve the issue and allow him to return. But he felt pain again when he started preparing to play. Ball averaged 13 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals. Besides giving the Bulls a steadying hand on offense, he helped tighten their perimeter defense. NFL COSTA MESA, Calif. — Quarterback Justin Herbert was mainly a bystander as the Los Angeles Chargers went through their first practice in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Herbert did some handoffs to running backs but did not do any throwing during the portion of practice open to the media. Herbert suffered fractured rib cartilage after taking a hit during the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Coach Brandon Staley said Herbert did some light throwing Tuesday but the third-year quarterback’s status remains day-to-day. Herbert was one of three players listed as a limited participant on the team’s practice report. “He’s had a lot of rest since the last game, but I think the nature of the week is truly going to be a case-by-case, day-by-day basis,” Staley said. “We’re just going to see where his comfort level is, and truly trust him and let him be the guide of where we’re at, and make sure that we are prepared either way.” Herbert missed only one play after taking a hard hit from Kansas City defensive lineman Michael Danna on a 12-yard completion to Gerald Everett with five minutes to go. He led the Chargers (1-1) on a nine-play, 73-yard touchdown drive the series after he was injured. GOLF CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Greg Norman says he has been asked not to attend the QBE Shootout in December, a PGA Tour-sanctioned event he started in 1989 as the Shark Shootout that is held at the Tiburon Golf Club course he designed. It was not clear who asked that he not attend the Dec. 9-11 tournament. The tournament director says it was a collective decision. Norman, who is in Washington to meet with members of Congress about his Saudi-funded LIV Golf series, revealed the news in an Instagram post late Tuesday afternoon without saying who was behind it. “Why one might ask? Perhaps it is because I am helping to give golf a new heartbeat, creating new value and delivering a new product that is loved by players, fans and broadcasters alike,” Norman said. “And in doing so, finally giving players their rights as independent contractors to benefit from their performance and brand. “In some people’s mind this is too disruptive and evolution is perceived as a bad thing. I disagree — competition breeds excellence.” The QBE Shootout was the first of the PGA Tour’s unofficial season late in the year to raise more than $1 million for childhood cancer, a figure he says now tops $15 million. It is comprised of 12 two-player teams competing in various formats.

Emerging Business Opportunities In The Metaverse: Report 2022 By GamesPad GlobeNewswire
Emerging Business Opportunities In The Metaverse: Report 2022 By GamesPad GlobeNewswire
Emerging Business Opportunities In The Metaverse: Report 2022 By GamesPad – GlobeNewswire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/emerging-business-opportunities-in-the-metaverse-report-2022-by-gamespad-globenewswire/ Road Town, BVI, Sept. 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The metaverse is a shared and persistent virtual space that exists in real-time and emerges from the convergence of virtual reality and virtually enhanced physical reality. This blending of worlds is causing a paradigm shift propelled by technological evolution and is opening up new possibilities – exciting opportunities for consumers and businesses alike. So whether performing a virtual concert for a global audience or holding an executive meeting with your company in a realistic digital boardroom from the comfort of home, the metaverse means big things for the future of business. Industry leaders and tech giants like Meta, Apple, and Microsoft are heavily investing in the metaverse, suggesting that this concept is not another experiment but the future. To stay competitive in the modern world, businesses need to develop strong strategies for entering this new virtual world. This is why gaming, NFT and metaverse ecosystem GamesPad has created Metaverse: Emerging Business Opportunities, an inclusive research paper that explores metaverse markets, business opportunities presented by this new concept, as well as strategies to enter emerging markets. The research paper is written by GamesPad and BullPerks Co-Founders Constantin Kogan and Eran Elhanani. It overviews over 20 metaverse trends, unique statistics collected from around 1,000 respondents, as well as insights by the top industry experts and thought leaders including: Yat Siu (Co-Founder of Animoca Brands) Wahid Chammas (Chairman & Co-Founder of Faith Tribe, Co-Owner of Faith Connexion, and Founder & CIO of TyreGate Capital) Travis Wu (Founder of Highstreet) Brian Hazan (Co-Founder of THE HUSL) Philip Devine (Co-Founder of CryptoBlades Kingdoms) A. Bahadir Yener (Founder of Metawear) Gal Yosef (3D Artist, CEO of Reflection Studios) Anastasia Drinevskaya (CEO and Creative Director of Cointelegraph Communications) Shawn Mims (American Rapper, Co-Founder of Cre8tor and RecordGram Inc.) Warren Parker-Mill (CEO of Fashion Metaverse Club) Eathan Janney, Jeff Kelley, and Josh Kriger (Co-Founders of Edge of NFT podcast, Edge of Company, NFT | LA) Gary Ongko Putera (CEO and Founder of BOOM Esports) Dana Kachan (CMO at GamesPad and BullPerks) Petrix Barbosa (Co-Founder of MoonBoots Capital) Business in the Metaverse The metaverse will unlock new opportunities for almost all businesses. First of all, metaverse experiences can help businesses connect with their existing clients on a whole new level of personalization, as well as reach new markets. Moreover, the metaverse can transform products and services, production and distribution processes, organizational operations, and more. GamesPad has identified some of the main economic sectors that will benefit from the metaverse. Gaming Players have globally shown a preference for games that offer immersive experiences with 3D graphics, VR-enabled titles, and platforms for user creativity. Almost 3 billion gamers worldwide are predicted to enter the metaverse to experience next-level gaming, which puts the gaming industry in a unique position to benefit from the metaverse. Moreover, according to GamesPad, 44% of respondents consider Play-to-Earn gaming the most exciting aspect of the metaverse. The ability to disrupt traditional modalities and progress metaverse concepts shows the power and importance of Play-to-Earn gaming for the future. It’s proven by data by Play-to-Earn NFT game CryptoBlades Kingdoms: since August, their users completed 23,709 battles, trained 4,472,925 units, looted over 313,146,492, and collected more than 1,712,753,259 in wood, stone, and clay, which demonstrates the users’ growing interest in the GameFi space. Fashion Avatars are the central fixture of a player’s virtual identity in the metaverse, which describes why digital self-expression is becoming more important to online users. Fashion brands are playing a crucial role in shaping the metaverse. A great example is Faith Tribe, an open-source design platform created to empower and reward digital creators in the metaverse and physical realm. The brand is aimed to develop a global creator ecosystem that fosters an inclusive and open environment for the successful creation, trading, distribution, and monetization of user-generated designs of fashion items. Another interesting instance is Metawear that is changing the fashion industry by creating Metaverse Fashion DOME which is essentially the Metaverse Temple of Top Fashion Designs, where talented global designers, top fashion brands, students, young artists, senior designers, and famous figures meet in one place to create, earn, and market their designs and products.  Virtual real estate According to a survey by GamesPad, 45% of respondents say they would consider buying virtual real estate, while 14% of users claim they have already purchased some. With ambitious real estate entrepreneurs aggressively accumulating plots of land in the metaverse, virtual real estate is becoming a lucrative investment. GamesPad believes that investing in a real estate in the metaverse allows businesses to reach a larger share of customers compared to most physical locations.  Marketing and advertising Companies can use virtual reality in the metaverse to engage with customers in a more creative way, offering them exclusive brand experiences in the new virtual world. It will surely give birth to an entirely new direction in digital marketing and advertising that involves in-metaverse ads, virtual influencers, metaverse events, and metaverse commerce. Creator economy Currently, the creator economy largely depends on centralized companies, namely social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook, which not only take a good cut of creators’ revenues but can also ban and censor them. However, the metaverse enables creators to sidestep these platforms and directly connect with their audience, allowing the creator economy to blossom. Immersive shopping experiences According to the survey by GamesPad, 43% of respondents prefer online shopping. A 3D immersive virtual world will offer enhanced shopping experiences and change the way we shop and interact with brands. Virtual malls and curated, customizable shopping platforms are some of the possible ways the metaverse can improve the shopping experience. For example, Highstreet is transforming retail in the Metaverse by turning department stores around the world like Saks, Selfridges, and Lane Crawford into entry points into Highstreet World.  Source: GamesPad Metaverse Report 2022 Music and entertainment The metaverse will make concerts and other virtual events limitless and borderless, allowing a global audience to participate and enjoy exhibitions. Celebrities and musicians can use the metaverse to connect with their fans on a high level while also being able to monetize their performance.  Virtual travel Unlike the physical world, there are no boundaries in the metaverse. By combining the virtual world’s limitless travel opportunities with the profitable tourism industry, the metaverse hosts a range of lucrative potential for those in the travel sector. Employee engagement In the metaverse, organizations can use emerging technologies to enable augmented virtual workspaces, which can dramatically increase employee engagement and productivity. This can particularly help in remote working environments, inspiring creative collaboration in the workplace.  Immersive learning experiences Leveraging VR and AR technologies, the metaverse can enhance education and enable online course providers to offer immersive learning experiences across a wide range of fields. This will not only improve students’ interaction with information but also will make a learning process more engaging. Socialization The metaverse will revolutionize the way we socialize digitally, facilitating the creation of independent virtual communities where users can enjoy immersive and enriching social experiences. For instance, using digital avatars, friends can socialize “in-person” in the same virtual room when in reality, they are physically miles apart.  Accessibility and empowerment In its essence, the metaverse is borderless, offering accessibility for people from around the globe regardless of their physical location. This universality will specifically improve access for people with disabilities or people from developing communities. Is the Metaverse a Good Fit For Your Business? GamesPad believes the metaverse offers new opportunities for all businesses. The metaverse presents a future of abundance and possibility. It is up to industry leaders and entrepreneurs to invest in metaverse strategies at the early stage to solidify lucrative channels in this exciting new frontier. REUTERS/Carlo Allegri Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com WASHINGTON, Sept 22 (Reuters) – Tesla (TSLA.O) is recalling nearly 1.1 million U.S. vehicles because the window automatic reversal system may not react correctly after detecting an obstruction, increasing the risk of injury. The electric vehicle manufacturer told the National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration (NHTSA) it would perform an over-the-air software update of the automatic window reversal system. The recall covers some 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2021 Model Y, and 2021-2022 Model S and Model X vehicles. Tesla said it was not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the recall. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com NHTSA said a closing window without the proper automatic reversing system may exert excessive force by pinching a driver or passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury. NHTSA said the vehicles failed to comply with the requirements of a federal motor vehicle safety standard on power windows. Tesla said during product testing in August employees identified window automatic reversal system performance that had “greater than expected variations in response to pinch detection.” After extensive additional testing, Tesla determined the vehicles pinch detection and retraction performance in the test results did not meet automatic reversal systems requirements. Tesla said starting Sept. 13, vehicles in production and in pre-delivery received a software update that sets power operated window operation to the requirements. Henderson History: Tropical Tree On Riverfront Led To Gangs Stash The Gleaner
Henderson History: Tropical Tree On Riverfront Led To Gangs Stash The Gleaner
Henderson History: Tropical Tree On Riverfront Led To Gang’s Stash – The Gleaner https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/henderson-history-tropical-tree-on-riverfront-led-to-gangs-stash-the-gleaner/ Frank Boyett  |  Columnist Custodian James Shoutz walked into The Gleaner’s office 75 years ago holding a leaf that measured 30 by 30 inches. It came from what was probably a banana tree growing inside the Imperial Tobacco Co. building on the Henderson riverfront. A gang of teenage hoodlums used the tree to access their stash of stolen goods before they ended their crime spree in a submachine gun shootout with local police. I’m relying on Francele Armstrong’s Gleaner column of Sept. 27, 1947, to tell you about this tree, which grew in the courtyard of the Imperial factory at Third and Water streets. It could not be seen from the street. Publisher Leigh Harris and his wife Jane followed the custodian back to the tobacco factory because they wanted to see the tree for themselves. “What they saw there led to a trip by this writer,” Armstrong wrote. The tree had already been growing there when the Imperial company bought the factory from the William Clark & Son Co. March 3, 1903. The courtyard originally had a wooden staircase leading to the second floor, but by the 1940s it had become unsafe. Henderson news:Remodeling permit secured for Imperial Building project The courtyard “opens to the street by a narrow fence and gate, now kept locked,” Armstrong wrote. The tree was cut down about the same time the gate was locked. That was done at the request of the Henderson Police Department because “Henderson’s group of juveniles, who later shot it out with police on the riverfront, were using the deserted courtyard and the tropical tree as a means to ‘disappear’ stolen goods. By climbing the tree they could keep their loot on the roof of the Imperial factory.”  Four teenagers who had stolen five submachine guns from the National Guard armory had a riverbank shoot-out with the police Feb. 25, 1946, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Bobby Williams, who went down still blasting away with his Tommy gun. His three companions – Benjamin F. Grossman, 16; Sam Nunn Jr., 18; and Leroy Robbins, 18 – continued shooting at law enforcement officers as they made their way south along the river’s edge. They were arrested without resistance at 12th Street. A half-dozen other members of the gang were arrested later. The harshest sentences were seven and eight years in federal prison for the adults. Henderson news:Henderson remembers legendary coach Phil Gibson’s ‘immeasurable’ impact on HS basketball The boys under 17 were sent for three years to the Justice Department’s National Training School for Boys, the federal reform school in Washington, D.C. “Since that time the company has cut the tree back to the ground (periodically) … but it still grows up again, tall and strong, to the top of its man-made brick chasm,” Armstrong wrote. “They don’t know what makes it grow, nor what causes its leaves to grow so large. They are larger than those on the sister trees” at 240 Third St. and 304 S. Main St. I suspect it grew so fast because it was a banana tree. Andy Rideout, Henderson County extension agent for horticulture, tends to agree. “It might be possible, surrounded by brick walls, that a tropical tree would survive,” he said. “They (banana trees) typically won’t survive the winters here but depending on conditions in a micro-environment … maybe.  They do grow back easily after they are cut down.” They can reach their full height of 20 to 40 feet within nine months of being cut down. 100 YEARS AGO The Gleaner of Sept. 26, 1922, reported that a committee of the Chamber of Commerce had met with the Henderson City Commission to discuss plans for a new system of streetlights. That project was significant, not only because those lights lasted until 1954, but also because our current streetlights are modeled after them. The chamber committee was made up of Secretary Vance Evans, B.B. Mann and C.A. Katterjohn. No decisions were made in that initial meeting, but it laid the groundwork for what came later. The initial plan was to install the lights all the way out Second Street – much like they are currently installed – although the plan then was to run them up the center of the street where the streetcar tracks were being taken out instead of along the sides.  Cost considerations apparently kept that from happening. The Gleaner of Oct. 18 reported that plans had been solidified and the lights were expected to be in place by Christmas. That was more than a little optimistic. But the chamber agreed to help raise a sizable contribution from merchants and citizens who stood to benefit from the lights. The plan was to erect eight lights to the block on Main, Green and Second streets. Other areas would get half that many. The Gleaner of Nov. 5 reported that the block of Main Street between First and Washington had been added “and it is hoped to extend the lights to the (railroad) bridge, if possible, but unless subscriptions are secured the last standard will be placed on the corner (of Third Street) by the Elks Home. “The fund with the additional blocks must total approximately $6,000, or about $800 more than has been subscribed to date.” The Gleaner of Nov. 21 noted W.F. Grasty, who had a drug store at First and Elm streets, had garnered the support of Mayor Clay Hall to also extend streetlights up First Street. (Minutes of the city commission from Oct. 13, 1924, show it authorized lights on First between Main and Green streets and on Elm between First and Second.) Construction work didn’t begin until March 28, 1923, according to The Gleaner of the following day. Electricity was to be provided through buried cables, which were being installed before the streets were paved. L.P. Hite, superintendent of the city’s power system, said the initial installation was considerably smaller than what had been originally envisioned. The new plan covered Second Street from Ingram to the river and Main Street between Third and Washington. “These two lines will cover the most important part of the business sections and will illuminate that portion of the downtown streets where traffic is heaviest, and at the same time attract attention to the progressive spirit of the city administration and supporters.” Henderson’s streetlights date back to about 1867. The first set of lights were one of the main purposes for developing Henderson’s gas system, and construction of the gas works was authorized in 1859. It is one of the nation’s oldest municipal gas systems.  That first gas system didn’t really work until the gas works were rebuilt in 1867, according to E.L. Starling’s History of Henderson County. Those gas lamps were replaced in 1884.  Here is an item that appeared in the Sept. 16, 1884, issue of the Henderson Reporter: “The new streetlights are certainly an improvement upon the old ones.  They look better and handsomer and throw out a more brilliant light and throw it farther than the old ones did.” The city’s third set of streetlights were lit up when the city’s first electric power plant was activated Aug. 15, 1896. Those arc lamps served until they were replaced by the fourth system installed beginning in 1923. Those are the lights that the current streetlights replicate.  A new set of mercury vapor lamps was turned on Sept. 3, 1954, and a huge community celebration accompanied activation of the fifth set of streetlights. Henderson’s sixth and most recent set of downtown streetlights were installed beginning in the spring of 2001. 50 YEARS AGO Kentucky’s five-percent sales tax on food items was lifted Oct. 1, 1972, according to that day’s edition of The Gleaner. “Nunn took it away and we’re giving it back,” Gov. Wendell Ford said in a press conference in Lexington where he and state Sen. Walter “Dee” Huddleston hurled $2 worth of nickels into the audience. Ford’s predecessor, Louie B. Nunn, had raised the sales tax from three percent to five percent, which gave rise to the term “Nunn’s nickel.” The sales tax is now six percent; it still does not apply to most grocery items. 25 YEARS AGO Maralea Arnett, who was a leader in the creation of the Henderson County Public Library District and whose “Annals and Scandals” history book told much of Henderson County’s history between 1775 and 1975, died at Medco Nursing Home Sept. 23, 1997, according to The Gleaner of two days later. “She was a person who was devoted to education and learning and libraries,” said Library Director Don Wathen. “She gave a lot to Henderson County as a teacher and as a librarian. “There was a time in the middle 1970s when she campaigned and worked diligently to aid the public library by setting it up as a countywide library district. She made a lot of enemies by doing that, but she knew it was worth the effort and persevered. She is largely responsible for the library being the way it is today.” The Evansville Press of May 10, 1976, reported she was working hard to complete the “Annals and Scandals” book by her July 1 deadline. Prior to writing that book, she did a brief history of the community of Dixie. She also contributed articles leading up to the community’s celebration of the Bicentennial, as well as to the special Bicentennial edition The Gleaner published. Tourists Spent $2.7 Billion In Oneida County In 2021 Utica Observer Dispatch
Tourists Spent $2.7 Billion In Oneida County In 2021 – Utica Observer Dispatch https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tourists-spent-2-7-billion-in-oneida-county-in-2021-utica-observer-dispatch/ A recent study released by Empire State Development and the I Love NY Division of Travel & Tourism shows visitor spending in Oneida County totaled $2.7 billion dollars in 2021, according to Oneida County Tourism.  Oneida County represents 74% of the Central New York Region’s tourism sales.   Traveler spending was up most in Oneida County at 164% of 2019 levels – the highest of any county in the state, according to the county tourism board.  “We are pleased to see the rebound of the travel industry and significant increase in economic impact generated through visitor spending in Oneida County in 2021,” said Kelly Blazosky, president of Oneida County Tourism in a statement.   “This study validates tourism as a vital part of the economy of Oneida County and the Central New York Region. Year-round and seasonal outdoor adventure experiences, quality attractions and events combined with our ideal location and great value continue to establish Oneida County as an excellent getaway destination.”  In Oneida County, all industry sectors remained steady or realized a slight increase and generated the following visitor spending in 2021:  Lodging – $1.2 billion  Recreation – $645 million  Food and beverage – $365 million  Retail and service – $460 million  Transportation – $42 million  Second homes – $31 million  The $2.7 billion in visitor spending is significantly higher than it has been in years past.   According to Oneida County Tourism, Oneida County brought in $1.5 billion in visitor spending in 2020, $1.7 billion in 2019, $1.6 billion in 2018 and $1.5 billion in 2017.  Development:Private development is coming to Utica’s Harbor Point Oneida Indian Nation to launch cannabis:Timeline, location and what to know The hierarchy of where the money is spent has not really changed over the last five years. Lodging and recreation always top the list and transportation and second homes round it out. Blazosky said the growth in 2021 lodging – the largest growth sector – directly correlates to the opening of a Home2 in north Utica in August 2020 and a Hampton Inn in Verona at Turning Stone in April 2021.  These openings added 199 guest rooms (72,635 room nights) bringing hotel room inventory to 3,320 in Oneida County, she said. Simultaneously the occupancy tax increase from 2% to 5% enacted by Oneida County Legislature, which took effect Feb. 1, 2020.   “Additionally, Oneida County benefited from our central geographic location and great outdoor spaces for people to explore,” Blazosky said.  About the study  The Economic Impact Study of Tourism in New York for 2021 was conducted by Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics Company of Oxford, United Kingdom with US offices in Wayne, PA.    The New York visitor economy spans multiple industries and Tourism Economics studied several sectors of the tourism industry, including those listed above.  This past year was one of recovery for the visitor economy as direct visitor spending reached $52 billion. This follows severe COVID-related declines in 2020, according to the statistics.  Visitor spending across the Central New York Region totaled $3.7 Billion in 2021, supporting 33,630 jobs. Central New York Vacation Region includes Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie, Broome, Chenango, Herkimer, Madison, and Montgomery counties.   The increase in direct spend of 80% versus 2020 was the fastest across New York State, resulting in the best performance versus pre-pandemic (142% of 2019 levels), according to the study.  What does this mean for Oneida County? Visitor spending supported 19,939 people employed direct, indirect and induced in travel and tourism jobs in Oneida County in 2021 and generated $1.2 billion in household wages, according to the tourism center.  Tourism sustains 22.7% of all employment in Oneida County. State tax coffers gained $134.3 million while local tax revenues reached $123.7 million in 2021 from tourism-generated spending in Oneida County.   Oneida County residents realized $2,846 in tax savings per household in 2021; an offset generated by visitor spending.  Oneida County contributed 68.5% of the Central New York Vacation Region’s tourism tax base in 2021 which totaled $376.4 million.  Though the county is bringing in more tourism money than the rest of the state currently, some officials see that divide widening, with more attractions slated to open in Oneida County later this year and into next.  “Tourism is essential to the economy of Oneida County and this study shows that we are in an incredibly strong position right now, thanks to visitor spending increasing at a higher rate than anywhere else in the state,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. in a statement.  “Our current success is due in large part to our strong partnership with the Oneida Indian Nation and the many investments they have made in our region. The future is even brighter, as we prepare for the boon that the Nexus Center will bring in the fall, and the rest of the development of the U-District that will follow, including the county’s food emporium at the REA Wing of Union Station.”

Data Mesh Use Cases And Applications In IoT AI And Machine Learning IoT Business News
Data Mesh Use Cases And Applications In IoT AI And Machine Learning IoT Business News
Data Mesh Use Cases And Applications In IoT, AI And Machine Learning – IoT Business News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/data-mesh-use-cases-and-applications-in-iot-ai-and-machine-learning-iot-business-news/ An article by Yash Mehta, an IoT, M2M and Big Data technology expert. In web 3.0, the dynamics of not just the internet but the data streams are undergoing a decentralized transformation. As a first step, thanks to distributed data governance every domain can now manage and govern its data products but at the same time, it also relies on central control of security policies, data modelling, and compliance. Data mesh distributes data across physical and virtual networks in a decentralized manner. Unlike conventional data integration tools that call for a highly centralized infrastructure, a data mesh instead works across on-premise, multi and single-cloud, edge environments. In this post, we discuss the real-world applications of mesh in different setups. Data Mesh: Solving Several Common Problems As per the findings from MIT, only 13% of surveyed organizations could successfully deliver as per their data strategy. Data Mesh is addressing many responsible root causes. Using a data mesh can solve several problems seen in data pipelines on a smaller scale. If not addressed, these can quickly become problematic and brittle over time as messy point-to-point systems can create their webs over time. At the same time, a data mesh also solves bigger issues in an organization like core business facts that different departments in a company may disagree on. By implementing a data mesh there is a less likely possibility for the system to have copies of facts. Using a data mesh not only brings order to a system but also gives you a better manageable, mature, and evolved data architecture. As we see the rise of cloud-based applications, app architectures are moving away and transitioning from conventional centralized IT and are moving towards distributed service mesh or microservices. A real-time data platform called K2view took a step ahead and successfully implemented the use of micro-DB in their fabric and mesh architectures. Every micro-DB stores the data for a particular business partner (customer) only while their mesh platform stores millions of such micro-DBs. Data Mesh: Use Cases A data mesh can support several analytical and operational use cases across multiple domains. A few examples include:- 1. Understanding Customer Lifecycle It provides 360 support for customer care and reduces average customer handling time significantly. It also improves customer satisfaction and increases first contact resolution. The marketing department can also deploy a single customer view for next-best-offer decision-making or predictive churn modelling. 2. Utility in the Internet of Things (IoT) With IoT device monitoring, product teams can get insights into edge device usage patterns. They can use this pattern information to iterate and improve their profitability and product adoption. By adopting a mesh network for IoT devices companies can get several benefits that make it a popular technology when it comes to choosing networks. Companies can store all their IoT, enterprise, streaming, and 3rd party data collectively together into an S3 data lake at a very low cost. 3. Self-Healing Algorithm As mentioned before the Shortest Path Bridging, the self-healing algorithm automatically selects the best path for sending data even in a case where some nodes lose their connection. This algorithm allows the system to use only available and working connections. So, even if some devices stop functioning, the network is still able to send and receive the information needed to maintain or finish a given task. 4. Distributed & More Effective Security Now when it comes to security, corporates are well prepared and keep updating their protocols. SMEs, however, lack the needed guidance. As per Accenture’s Cybercrime study, 43% of attacks are aimed at smaller organizations while only 14% are able to prevent themselves. With contemporary data management solutions like Mesh, SMEs have an opportunity to stay in line with the trends. Security is critical in a situation where the data is highly decentralized and distributed. Such systems should delegate authorization and authentication activities to different users providing them with different levels of access as needed. Following key security abilities of data mesh have been identified in the 2022 market premier report: Data privacy management in all forms Data encryption, be it at rest or in motion Data masking, to effectively manage PII obfuscation CCPA and GDPR compliances along with other legislations Identity management that covers all IAM/LDAP type services 5. Self-Configuration IoT devices can now self-configure themselves thanks to auto-discovery for mesh networks. It automatically calibrates new nodes and connects them to the desired network without having any previous setup. With this feature, the network can be expanded and governed easily. 6. Marketing and Sales The marketing and sales team can easily curate a 360 view of consumer profiles and behaviours from different platforms and systems by using distributed data. This allows them to create better-targeted campaigns, CLV (customer lifetime values), better lead scoring accuracy and perform several other essential metrics for performance. Marketing teams use hyper-segmentation to deliver a campaign to the right customer via the right channel at the right time. 7. AI and Machine Learning Intelligence & development teams can easily create data catalogues and virtual warehouses from several sources to feed AI and machine learning models. This gives them more insights without having to collect all the data in a given central location. Teams can also use federated data preparation that enables domains to provide trusted data and quality for data analytic workloads. 8. Loss Prevention By implementing data mesh in the financial sector companies can develop a quicker time-to-insight with lower operational risks and costs. This feature enables international financial institutions and organizations to analyze their data locally. This can be done in any region or country and it helps identify any fraud threats without creating any copies of data sets that can be transported to the central database. Data privacy management allows companies to protect their customer data as they have to comply with evolving regional data and privacy laws like the VCDPA. A Few Real Implementations of Data Mesh Financial Services Institution In one of their blogs, Thoughtworks discussed the impact of data mesh on a financial institution’s data process. Since such an application deals with large volumes of transactional data in real time, it is important to stream accurate and timely feeds to analytics systems. In this case, the executives had the flexibility to operationalize data quickly and they were able to access domain-oriented data products. This allowed them to ask more relevant questions and eventually got them more reliable answers and valuable insights to act on in less time. Not only this, but the domain team was also able to use analytical data and build it directly onto their users’ digital experience. AWS S3 There was a drastic change when AWS commoditized its storage layer and replaced it with the AWS S3 object store around 15 years ago. Because of the affordability and ubiquity of S3 and other cloud storage, companies are now shifting their data to cloud object stores. This allows them to build data lakes where eventually data can be analyzed in different ways. A Fashion Retailer Brand Europe’s largest online fashion retailer, Zalando learned that there is a simple way to guarantee access and availability at scale. This can be done by moving more responsibilities to the teams that initially gather this data and also have the required domain knowledge. And also by keeping all metadata information and data governance central. Trust me, the space is just not enough to cover all use cases. It’s a propelling market and businesses want to extract the most out of it. What’s Next? Embrace a Data Product Mindset There are several innovative practices for data products that amalgamate different concepts together like design thinking, the jobs-to-be-done theory, and breaking organizational silos that bar cross-functional innovation. Enterprises, in 2022, should grab the opportunity and revamp their data management strategy keeping web 3.0 in mind. This is especially difficult if you are making these changes after a long history of following an unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Many people begin fitness routines, but stop them when they grow tired, don’t like it, or see too little progress. However, to take conscious steps to make this journey fun, motivating, and doable, you must make the right choices. In this article, we discuss tips and tricks that can help you stay on track with your workout. Follow these tips to make working out fun and to stay motivated: 1. Set a routine Set a rough routine for when you consume your meals and when you exercise. Make sure the time slot you have picked is vacant most days. For example, an hour of workout before work or after. Instead of setting a routine for say 8/9 pm. As there is a possibility you might have to attend to other chores, events, or plans that can jeopardise your workout plans. 2. Stop the all-or-nothing thought process The issue with this black-and-white way of thinking is that it forbids any adaptability when life interferes with your plans. And it’ll happen. When our unreasonable expectations aren’t realised, it causes a lot of despair and a sense of overwhelming. 3. Establish and revisit your goal Your goal can be the weight you are trying to achieve, waist size, or even the amount of time you want to lose weight. It is important to build small and achievable goals and work towards achieving them. It is also important to remind yourself of your goals throughout the journey to see how far you have come. 4. Don’t demotivate yourself Oftentimes, we can be the reason behind our own demotivation. It can be hard to stay on track. Furthermore, one might not always lose the same amount of weight through the same amount of effort. It is important to not pull yourself down when you’re unable to perform to the best of your abilities. 5. Find a companion Social support makes exercising a lot more pleasurable. Organise walking meet-ups. Arrange basketball teams, treadmill or spinning sessions at the gym, dancing nights, or tennis matches. Your companion can also help motivate you if you are considering skipping a day. 6. Avoid monotonous workouts To keep things new and to work out different muscle areas, try a variety of workouts. If you like the elliptical machine, try the stair climber for some cardio instead. As you strength train, alternate using machines and free weights. Every week, you don’t need to start from scratch, but you should change up your routine a little. 7. Take photos Taking pictures and keeping a photo journal is a terrific way to stay motivated to reach your fitness objectives. This will provide you with tangible evidence that your instruction is having an impact. To see your progress from all sides, take pictures of the front, both sides, and the back. In conclusion, patience is key. It takes time to make significant lifestyle changes and to lose significant weight. It is necessary to be consistent and realistic. Here Is The Latest Pac-12 Conference Sports News From The Associated Press – Mankato Free Press https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/here-is-the-latest-pac-12-conference-sports-news-from-the-associated-press-mankato-free-press/ UNDATED (AP) — Oregon State has a chance to start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2012 with a win over No. 7 Southern California. The Beavers beat USC 45-27 last season for their first win in the Coliseum in more than 60 years. There are currently four Pac-12 teams in the latest AP poll, but a win over the Trojans could very well elevate the Beavers into the rankings. In other Pac-12 games, No. 15 Oregon travels to Washington State and Sun Devils interim coach Shaun Aguano makes his debut after taking over for Herm Edwards. Arizona State will host No. 13 Utah. EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon quarterback Bo Nix seems to have hit his stride after struggling in the opener against Georgia. The Auburn transfer threw for five touchdowns in a victory over Eastern Washington, then built on that success by throwing for a pair of TDs and running for three more in a 41-20 victory over BYU. The No. 15 Ducks now head north to face undefeated Washington State in their Pac-12 opener. UNDATED (AP) — After three weeks there are 33 unbeaten teams left in major college football and eight of them are playing against each other Saturday. There are showdowns in the Pac-12, ACC, and Big Ten this week, plus Duke vs. Kansas. The basketball powerhouses are both 3-0 heading into one of the most interesting games of the week. UNDATED (AP) — The College Football Playoff is built to expand. While only three games determine a champion, the current postseason format is seven games: Two semifinals, a championship game and four marquee bowls. To convert a four-team playoff into 12 requires four more games and about three more weeks. Expanding for the 2024 and ’25 seasons largely hinges upon whether the already-scheduled semifinals and championship game can be pushed back. The NFL schedule will play a big role, too. College football fans should be prepared to watch playoff games on weeknights. UNDATED (AP) — The early-season starts by the four Pacific Northwest schools would have had all the hallmarks of an exciting race in the Pac-12’s North Division. If only the North Division still existed. The current season marks the first time that the two teams with the highest winning percentage in conference games will meet in the championship game. The Pac-12 decided to do away with divisions after the NCAA Division I Council changed the rule requiring conferences to have divisions to conduct championship games. Washington, Washington State, and Oregon State are all off to 3-0 starts, while Oregon is 2-1. The Huskies and Ducks pulled off significant wins last weekend, with Washington defeating No. 11 Michigan State 39-28 and 25th-ranked Oregon beating No. 12 BYU 41-20. TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State ended the Herm Edwards experiment a day after an ugly home loss. The Sun Devils are hoping the change will help them straighten out a season that still has nine games left. Interim coach Shaun Aguano will be at the helm of this transition. Arizona State’s former running backs coach has deep ties to football in the Grand Canyon State. Aguano was one of the most decorated high school coaches in Arizona history and had been on Edwards’ staff since 2019. BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado Buffaloes are off to an 0-3 start for the first time since 2012. The program has tumbled to the depths where director of athletics Rick George felt it necessary to acknowledge in a statement that the Buffaloes have been disappointing this fall. Third-year coach Karl Dorrell is feeling the pressure as he tries to turn around a program that lost quite a few players to the transfer portal. The Buffaloes are a 21-point underdog this weekend when they host UCLA at Folsom Field. UNDATED (AP) — Three weeks into the season and there are still more than few teams ranked in The Associated Press college football poll ranked that have a lot to prove. No. 4 Michigan is the prime example. The Wolverines have scored at least 50 in each of their first three games, but those opponents are a combined 0-9 against other FBS teams. But where it is ranked is based more on faith than accomplishments. Reality check rolls through the rankings this week, looking for mystery teams. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press.
