Russian Mobilization May Spur U.S. To Accelerate Aid To Ukraine The Washington Post
Russian Mobilization May Spur U.S. To Accelerate Aid To Ukraine – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/russian-mobilization-may-spur-u-s-to-accelerate-aid-to-ukraine-the-washington-post/
The United States signaled Wednesday that it wouldn’t be cowed by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s latest steps to escalate his war effort in Ukraine, vowing to continue to arm Kyiv for its advancing counteroffensive, even as Putin ordered up more forces for battle and threatened to use nuclear weapons.
President Biden, in an address to the U.N. General Assembly, said, “We will stand in solidarity with Ukraine. We will stand in solidarity against Russia’s aggression. Period.”
The comments came hours after Putin, in a speech aired early Wednesday, announced plans to mobilize about 300,000 Russian reservists for the front and hold “referendums” in occupied areas of Ukraine that could presage a broad annexation of Ukrainian land.
Should Russia’s territorial integrity and people be threatened, Putin warned, “We will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff.”
The escalation, analysts said, represents an attempt by Moscow to freeze its gains in eastern Ukraine and deter further Western support for Kyiv, before losing any more occupied land to a Ukrainian force that has seized the initiative in recent weeks. It is also an effort by Putin to solve a troop numbers problem that is preventing Russia from conducting offensive operations and risking the further collapse of its positions on the battlefield.
Kyiv has said the orchestration of staged referendums and annexations will not prevent Ukrainian forces from taking back the country’s territory.
“Russia wants war — it’s true. But Russia will not be able to stop the course of history,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a prerecorded address to the United Nations on Wednesday evening.
The White House said the flow of weapons to Ukraine would continue.
“We are going to continue to support Ukraine with security assistance and other financial aid, as the president said, for as long as it takes,” John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said in an interview with ABC News. “That is Ukrainian territory. It doesn’t matter what sham referendum they put in place or what vote they hold. It is still Ukrainian territory.”
Kirby decried Putin’s nuclear threat as irresponsible, warning of severe consequences if Moscow used such arms in the conflict. Kirby said the United States is monitoring Russia’s nuclear complex and sees no reason at this point for Washington to alter its strategic posture.
Kori Schake, the director of foreign and defense policy at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, who visited Kyiv last week, said the Russian reinforcements would take months to train and deploy and wouldn’t necessarily alter the outcome of the war. She noted that Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons do not register the same way in Ukraine, after months of combat, as they do in the United States.
“There, I was struck by the unanimity and attitude both among government people and among civil society that Russia using a nuclear weapon in Ukraine would not change the outcome of the war,” she said. “It would simply raise the costs.”
In response to Putin’s nuclear threat, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell called an emergency meeting Wednesday evening of E.U. foreign ministers. He said he expects to issue an E.U. response to Putin’s statements at Thursday’s U.N. Security Council meeting on Ukraine, which Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to attend along with Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“What President Putin announced today constitutes another major escalation in the unprovoked war,” Borrell told reporters at the United Nations. “It looked like he’s speaking in a measure of panic and desperation … by threat of using nuclear weapons, he’s trying to intimidate Ukraine and all the countries that support Ukraine. But he will fail. He has failed, and he will fail again.”
If Putin formally annexes the occupied territory his military holds, he could characterize future Ukrainian military operations as attacks on Russia itself, giving him license to take more extreme measures in response and again brandish the nuclear threat. Russian doctrine permits a nuclear response to a conventional attack that threatens the existence of the state.
Though Russian draftees are technically excluded from being sent to war zones such as Ukraine, they could be deployed to the occupied territories, should Moscow deem the lands part of Russia.
Putin’s nuclear saber rattling, analysts say, is an attempt to make Ukraine’s Western backers think twice about enabling Kyiv to inflict a resounding Russian defeat on the battlefield for fear of the possible consequences.
“It’s designed to get us to send less to Ukraine and certainly not to increase the amount of assistance we provide both in quantity and in quality,” said John E. Herbst, a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine and director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center. He argued that the administration should provide long-range missiles, tanks, air defense systems and fighter jets — weapons the administration has so far refused to send — to ensure Ukrainian victory regardless of Russian threats.
Biden has declined to specify how the United States would respond to the use of a nuclear weapon in Ukraine, saying only: “It’ll be consequential. They’ll become more of a pariah in the world than they have ever been. And depending on the extent of what they do, will determine what response would occur.”
His administration has made averting any risk of a direct conflict with Russia a cornerstone of its policy response to the conflict. According to a congressional official familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive deliberations, the United States will continue to provide Kyiv with more of the same weapons that have helped Ukraine make gains against Russian forces, but it isn’t immediately considering new types of weapons.
One senior U.S. official said it is unlikely that Putin’s announcement does anything other than “steel resolve for continued support” in defense of Ukraine within the administration.
The administration’s decision to supply Ukraine with High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) significantly altered the situation on the battlefield this year in Kyiv’s favor. Previously, Ukrainian forces suffered territorial and personnel losses because they were outgunned by Russia’s longer-range artillery.
Putin’s partial mobilization will help placate nationalist hard-liners at home, who have been calling on the Kremlin to unleash the full force of Russia’s power against Ukraine. But the move also risks domestic discontent in other quarters, as Russia calls up reservists and sends them into a badly managed military campaign, in some cases against their will.
It’s a “sign of desperation,” said Dmitry Gorenburg, who studies Russian security issues for CNA, a defense research group in suburban Washington.
Gorenburg noted a confluence of several troubling factors for Putin in recent days, including the Russian military’s stunning rout in northeastern Ukraine, the lack of support for Putin during an international security summit last week in Uzbekistan, and building frustration with the Russian military’s failures among more extreme Russian nationalists.
Russia will probably use the additional forces in an effort to prop up units in Ukraine that already have suffered heavy combat losses, rather than attempting to build new units to deploy, Gorenburg predicted. Doing so, he said, can be accomplished more quickly and could help the Russian military dig in where it is, even if it is unlikely that it can go back on the offensive.
“I’m not convinced it will work everywhere,” Gorenburg said. “And even with relatively limited training, it will take some weeks to get people there.”
The result is an opportunity for Ukrainian forces to try to advance their counteroffensive as aggressively as possible before any Russian reinforcements arrive. The Ukrainians have been steadily chipping away at Russian defenses outside the southern city of Kherson and in the northern part of the Donetsk region.

War in Ukraine: What you need to know
The latest: Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “partial mobilization” of troops in an address to the nation on Sept. 21, framing the move as an attempt to defend Russian sovereignty against a West that seeks to use Ukraine as a tool to “divide and destroy Russia.” Follow our live updates here.
The fight: A successful Ukrainian counteroffensive has forced a major Russian retreat in the northeastern Kharkiv region in recent days, as troops fled cities and villages they had occupied since the early days of the war and abandoned large amounts of military equipment.
Annexation referendums: Staged referendums, which would be illegal under international law, are set to take place from Sept. 23 to 27 in the breakaway Luhansk and Donetsk regions of eastern Ukraine, according to Russian news agencies. Another staged referendum will be held by the Moscow-appointed administration in Kherson starting Friday.

Cannabis Lounges Are Coming To Las Vegas – 96.3 KKLZ https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/cannabis-lounges-are-coming-to-las-vegas-96-3-kklz/
Cannabis fans, rejoice! In a 5-to-1 vote in City Council this morning, it was decided that Las Vegas will be allowing businesses that cater to marijuana consumption, lvrj.com reported. Councilwoman Victoria Seaman was the opposing vote and Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony did not vote, as he did not attend the meeting. Now that the vote has been completed, the next phase can begin in allowing marijuana-friendly establishments in Las Vegas.
They’re called Cannabis Lounges and are very much like taverns except they won’t sell alcohol. These lounges will strictly be for marijuana use. Since the legalization of marijuana in 2016, citizens have only been able to enjoy the recreational drug in their private homes. Now there will be public locations were cannabis connoisseurs can legally engage in smoking it. According to lvrj.com, Unincorporated Clark County and Las Vegas will be the only jurisdictions in Southern Nevada that will allow the lounges. North Las Vegas, Mesquite, Boulder City and Henderson opted out. As reported by lvrj.com, “Statewide, there will be 20 licenses issued to independent applicants for standalone gathering spots, half of which will go to “social equity applicants,” who’ve been adversely affected by marijuana laws before the state legalized the drug. The announcement comes as the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board said a week ago that its 10-day application window for the licenses was opening up in October, and as Clark County works to finalize its licensing regulations.”
The application process is now expected to open up in the first few months of 2023, with the first of these lounges in the county opening early in the same year. Las Vegas will join other cities that have opened similar lounges, including San Francisco, Oakland and West Hollywood in California, Denver, Colorado, and Worcester, Massachusetts.

Packing List For The Caribbean South Florida Caribbean News
Packing List For The Caribbean – South Florida Caribbean News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/packing-list-for-the-caribbean-south-florida-caribbean-news/
Whether you’re considering an international holiday or are immigrating to the US, planning for a vacation to the Caribbean is a must. Most people think only of Hawaii when considering beach vacations in a tropical paradise. However, Caribbean holidays are out of this world. When you think of the Caribbean, what comes to mind first? Beaches, water, swimming, or cave exploration? Whatever your reason for visiting (holiday or work), immigration lawyers can help get you the correct visa so you can enjoy your time in the sunshine, knowing that all the legalities and paperwork are in order.
Often, holidays get ruined because of overpacking and carrying too many things. Transporting the bags, luggage, and add-ons can also become unnecessarily expensive. Instead, having a concise packing list is ideal for helping you make the trip cost-effective, enjoyable, and hassle-free.
Since the whole point of a holiday or vacation is to relax, it is best to travel as light as possible, with less baggage, to avoid losing your luggage and ruining your trip.
Let us look at a flexible, easily adaptable packing list tailored specifically for the Caribbean.
Bags:
You should choose your bags carefully when considering all your clothing, footwear, sand, airport transfers, and additional carry-ons. If your existing bag is not all-weather proof, it might not be wise to take it to a tropical country. Similarly, if you have multiple airport transfers, connecting flights, and road trips thrown into your itinerary, there is a chance you may need a sturdy bag. If your bag is already missing part of the zip and is a soft one, you may end up damaging your belongings while you travel.
Hybrid bags (easily convertible ones), waterproof, all-weather, and those with wheels are usually good choices. However, avoid pulling your bag across sand since it may get stuck, and you would carry your luggage anyway.
In-flight Essentials:
Whether you have a layover or are catching a direct flight, always pack your headphones, sunglasses, a pair of socks, and some cream and lip balm. These essentials will also help you in the Caribbean (except the socks).
When you’re flying, you should also carry an empty water bottle and refill it at the water stations at airports to avoid purchasing bottled water and spending too much money. All airports have good drinking water for travellers where you can refill your reusable bottle. You can also carry water when going to the beach in the Caribbean to avoid dehydration.
Clothes:
When travelling to the Caribbean, it is best to carry lightweight, airy, and easy-to-wash and reuse clothes. Packing thick, bulky clothes may become a huge hindrance and won’t dry quickly if you need to wash and reuse them.
Since the Caribbean is known for its humid and hot year-long weather, carrying light, breathable clothes will help soak lingering sweat and allow you to pack light. These clothes can be washed, dried, and reused within a day or the same evening. Depending on how many days you plan to stay, packing thin cotton clothes, shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, and skirts will help immensely.
Waterproofing:
Before heading off on your Caribbean vacation, you should consider a few things. Primary among these is waterproofing. Like your bags, you will need to waterproof a few other things. A waterproof or rain cover jacket for your shoulder bag will help keep the contents inside dry for longer. If you are not carrying a shoulder bag or haversack, you may want to waterproof your phone.
While many latest models are water-resistant, they are not waterproof for a long time. Instead, placing your phone inside a zip-pouch or clear transparent bag will help you read texts, even if it’s rainy.
Lotion and Gels:
Sunblock is a must for any sunny location, the Caribbean included. Avoid purchasing SPF 15-20; instead, opt for something higher than SPF 30 to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays. A light, water-based body lotion or moisturizer will also help immensely. Many times, sand can make your skin dry and itchy. Post a shower, moisturizing the skin can help from making it look scaly. Aloe-based gels will also help with sunburn and chafed skin.
Medicines:
While you don’t want to think about getting sick, sometimes it is unavoidable. You should consult your doctor and get your prescriptions refilled, have sea-sickness medicine (hello, Caribbean cruises!), allergy medication, and nausea pills, to name a few. You should also keep the multivitamins handy and drink plenty of fresh juices with Vitamin C.

The REI at Nebraska Crossing in Gretna includes a repair shop for bicycles and other gear. The store opens at 10 a.m. Friday.
People are eagerly anticipating the opening of the 22,000-square-foot REI store in Nebraska Crossing, store manager Josh O’Connell said.
REI’s extensive inventory consists of outdoor recreation clothing and equipment for such activities as camping, hiking, water activities, cycling and fitness.
“For the (outdoor) experts, this is their haven,” REI store manager Josh O’Connell said. “I think for those non-experts, this is a place where you can come in and feel comfortable asking questions.”

Outdoor retailer REI will open its doors Friday morning at Gretna’s Nebraska Crossing. The 22,000-square-foot store’s opening weekend will include three days of festivities.
Something for everyone.
That’s what retailer REI promises to offer when it opens its doors Friday morning at Gretna’s Nebraska Crossing.
With an extensive inventory consisting of outdoor recreation clothing and equipment for such activities as camping, hiking, water activities, cycling and fitness, people are eagerly anticipating the opening of the 22,000-square-foot store, store manager Josh O’Connell said Wednesday. The store also includes a full-service bike shop and gear rentals.
Potential customers have been wandering into the retail space only to be politely informed that the store is not yet open.
When it opens, O’Connell said, REI’s first — and so far only — Nebraska location will be a place where outdoor enthusiasts and newcomers can feel comfortable.
“For the experts, this is their haven. I think for those non-experts, this is a place where you can come in and feel comfortable asking questions,” he said. “It’s about having fun when you’re here.”
With the store located between Omaha and Lincoln, REI fits into the vision of Rod Yates, Nebraska Crossing’s owner and developer, for bringing in destination retailers to attract residents from throughout the region.
“I think the trend in the future is retailers will probably open less stores and try to serve a bigger trade area with their physical store and their online channel,” Yates said.
The public’s interest in an REI store was reflected in the hiring process this summer.
O’Connell, a 22-year veteran of the retail industry, said he was pleasantly surprised that the store had no trouble filling its roster of approximately 50 employees. More than 200 people applied for the positions. He said about 58% of the Nebraska store’s employees are women.
O’Connell credits REI’s pay scale for its ability to attract employees. Hourly associates start at $16.55 per hour and mechanics start at $18.30 per hour. Benefits include two paid “Co-op Way Days” each year to allow employees to enjoy outdoor activities and a paid day off on Black Friday.
In addition to pay, O’Connell said REI encourages a lighthearted work atmosphere.
“We have a lot of people (who) were just itching to be part of this,” he said.
The store’s opening weekend will include three days of festivities, events and promotions held in partnership with several community organizations. Regular business hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Isabella Rossellini 70 Says She Is too Old For Plastic Surgery: My Skin Will Not Sustain It Yahoo Life
Isabella Rossellini, 70, Says She Is ‘too Old’ For Plastic Surgery: ‘My Skin Will Not Sustain It’ – Yahoo Life https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/isabella-rossellini-70-says-she-is-too-old-for-plastic-surgery-my-skin-will-not-sustain-it-yahoo-life/
Isabella Rossellini has no regrets when it comes to her decision not to have plastic surgery in her 40s and 50s.
In a recent interview with Vulture, the Death Becomes Her actress revealed that she has never gone under the knife for cosmetic procedures.
“I feel ambivalent. I haven’t done any plastic surgery,” she said, admitting that she did consider it in the past but always backed out.
“Some day I woke up and said, ‘We have all these new technologies in surgery. Why don’t I take advantage of it? I’m going to call a plastic surgeon,’ Then when I started to call a plastic surgeon, I ran out of courage,” she said.
Her decision was based on a fear of succumbing to the patriarchal precedents.
“Most of the time, I have to say, I’m thinking, ‘Is this based on misogyny?’” she asked.
Now, Rossellini simply feels she has outgrown the need or desire for plastic surgery.
“I’m too old. I’m not going to do plastic surgery at 70; my skin will not sustain it. But in the years before — around 45 or 50 — I didn’t do it. Now I look back and say, ‘Maybe I was right,’ I think it is misogyny,” she said.
Despite her personal stance on having work done, Rossellini is not opposed to the concept of plastic surgery — it’s just for other people.
“I had a friend, for example, who always hated her nose. Luckily, she fell and broke her nose. She said, ‘I took advantage of it!’ So that I understand,” she said.
Currently, Rossellini runs Mama Farm in Brookhaven, New York, and finds that filler and other procedures simply don’t align with the genesis of her life at the moment.
“I always say, jokingly, because I run an organic farm and try to eat healthy, that I can’t reconcile eating organically and having Botox. How do you reconcile the two?” she says.
Beyond her penchant for healthy living, Rossellini enjoys serving as a representation for older women opting out of going under the knife for the illusion of youth.
“Meanwhile, I became old and I’m working with Lancôme. They hired me back, and a lot of people send emails and comments saying they feel represented by me. The photos are all about cosmetics and looking your best, and they’re very appreciative that there is a 70-year-old woman doing it and not even attempting to look like what I’m not. I think I was right not to do it,” she said.
And despite working in a notoriously vain industry, Rossellini has had no issue staying booked and busy without the help of cosmetic enhancements.
“I have many friends and relatives who have done plastic surgery, and I’m not against it. Also, I can gladly announce that even though I haven’t done it, I am still working all the time. The fear is that maybe if I don’t do plastic surgery, I’ll work less. But it hasn’t happened to me.

Montgomery Adds Safety Rules For School Sporting Events After Football Fight The Washington Post
Montgomery Adds Safety Rules For School Sporting Events After Football Fight – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/montgomery-adds-safety-rules-for-school-sporting-events-after-football-fight-the-washington-post/
Montgomery County Public Schools announced more stringent safety protocols around athletic events Wednesday following a brawl that erupted at a football game last week.
Under the new rules, students and spectators will be required to remain in the stands during games. The rules also prevent anyone from being admitted after halftime.
Students will also have to show a student ID or a copy of their school schedule to prove they are enrolled at one of the schools competing. Students who don’t attend one of the two schools playing will have to be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
The new rules take effect Friday.
Some individual schools already added extra security measures for sports events, Chief Operating Officer Brian Hull said Wednesday during a news conference. But a districtwide plan was created after a large fight at a football game between Northwest and Gaithersburg high schools Friday led to four juveniles and a 19-year-old man being charged with assault, Hull said.
The safety protocols will be in place through the rest of the football season, but they could be extended into other athletic seasons — such as basketball — depending on the outcome.
Schools Superintendent Monifa B. McKnight said the guidelines were created after meeting with principals, students, staff, athletics, security and police. The school system is continuing to investigate what led to the altercation at the game Friday, McKnight said.
Gaithersburg High School Athletic Director William Gant filed an assault complaint against Northwest Coach Travis Hawkins after the brawl last week. McKnight declined to comment on Gant’s or Hawkins’s employment status or whether they’d been disciplined, saying that it was a personnel issue.
“While the most recent situation brought us together today, we have and will continue to monitor the safety at all of our school events,” McKnight said.

What The Zuck – A Web3 Metaverse Roadmap – Forbes https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/what-the-zuck-a-web3-metaverse-roadmap-forbes/

I was fascinated with the concept of the Metaverse when I first read Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash in the 90’s. At the time, I was the CEO of The Imagination Network, the top online social games company, with a remarkable team that, inspired by the book, built one of the first 3D virtual worlds—a Metaverse called CyberPark.
CyberPark had most of the components that are emerging in the market now—fun filled environments with avatars, currency, and merchandise. In my latest Web3/Meta keynote, I have a slide comparing what we built—decades ago—and what companies, like Facebook, Roblox and many others, are prototyping now. Whether at a public conference or a large internal corporate event, the audience looks at the then and now slide and says: “ I can’t see much of a difference…visually.” Even the industry leaders who can tell the difference will admit that the march to building mass-market 3D virtual Worlds has been long and slow, and still consists of lucrative niche markets.
That is all about to change, as we experience a perfect storm of enabling technologies and platforms adopted and powered-by by the next-generation of people and Web3 organizations. It will take longer than most forecast, not look like the promo-reels, and go through multiple phases of development over the next 10 years. As organizations, big and small, begin to place their bets, knowing when to invest is as important as where. What I’m asked most often is: what should my company do now. Let’s call it the NOWverse to do list.
What the Zuck is the Metaverse
People get excited about new technologies that are often over-hyped in advance, but not ready for mass-market consumption. Meta + Verse (from Universe) = Metaverse, is just the next one.
If you Google it, hundreds of definitions pop up, that most find confusing or dictate an unachievable perfect-world. There are lots of misconceptions about what you need to experience it properly, like VR/AR headsets, or massive screens, etc. You don’t—it should be device agnostic.
As an insider, I like Matthew Ball’s definition, because he digs into the critical components required for Web3 + Metaverse: “A massively scaled and interoperable network of real-time rendered 3D virtual worlds that can be experienced synchronously and persistently by an effectively unlimited number of users with an individual sense of presence, and with continuity of data, such as identity, history, entitlements, objects, communications, and payments.”
Too long? Try this: It is the Internet’s next evolution towards immersiveness.
Who is Web3?
You are. To understand the Metaverse’s enabling fundamentals, lets look at how the Internet may evolve.
Web 1.0, the first iteration of the internet that continues to be the foundation of what we use today. It was mostly read-only static content and with old media business models. At launch, it was coined as The Information Super Highway. What I said back then about the first iteration of the Internet can also be used to describe Web3 – Metaverse:
‘The future vision of what technology could feasibly provide, which will continue to change in size, scope and promise, as more viable capabilities emerge that are grounded in human demand and desire.’
Web 2.0 consolidated power with centralized landlords and business models that are monetizing the masses with more social sharing, creation, and enablement platforms.
Web 3.0 promises to take us to a democratized, creator/owner phase of the internet, where the power shifts from the big tech oligopolies to individuals. Rather than using platforms in exchange for data, users should have full power, governance, and control over assets, where they can be participants, owners, and shareholders—with peer-to-peer transactions.
Dean DeBiase – Reboot Partners
The capabilities and timing of a Web3 world are as uncertain as the original wild-west land rush, with thousands of companies developing enabling pieces of a multi-layer ecosystem. From the big tech Web2 players, like Google and Apple, who don’t want to lose control in a Web3 transition, to innovatators like coto by Eve and dentity, the enabling platform market is moving rapidly.
PLANNING: The 6 P’s
When leaders ask me, should we hire a Chief Metaverse Officer, I usually say no. But, depending on the industry and company, most will be better served by making it core to the Chief Marketing or Digital Officer capabilities—and then hire and invest accordingly.
Before jumping on the Metaverse wagon, organizations from McDonald’s and Starbucks to CVS and Unilever are taking a step back and planning out what is best to do now, while brands like Nike—who will soon have produced over $200 mil in revenue from the category—are claiming it as a more significant part of their future business model optimization.
To help organizations prepare, let’s look at the NOWverse 6P’s that may help plan and invest into a more robust Web3 digital strategy and a Metaverse evolution.
First, Prepare and develop longtail, situational plans for next-gen platforms and partnerships, and understand the array of different business models. You should also consider Protecting your assets, data, and information. The Metaverse creates new scenarios to anticipate and mitigate risks around; and not just secure, but proactively expand your patents, trademarks, IPs, services, products, and ventures.
Organizations can Produce IDTs, what I call (Iconic Digital Twins) or NTF’s for existing and future products and services, while working towards enhancing your brand’s Positioning, by providing OBEs – (on-brand experiences) for in-person, online, and virtual environments. Don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach; align with your brand’s promise, and keep the experience relevant, realistic, and reliable. When looking at go-to-market, you must Promote and sync purposeful branding experiences to meta-phases, get Personal, and leverage technologies.
Dean DeBiase – Reboot Partners
PERSONALIZATION: The 5 E’s
With all of the Web2 solutions available, it is table-stakes to provide customers with personalization Wether online or IRL, consider the 5Es to get started. Companies have been deploying some of these in both old and new media—but now it must be at the core of any digital transformation strategy.
Traditional and new media advertising (and ecommerce) business models need a reboot. Besides selling something, there are smarter opportunities to connect with Web2 and Web3 consumers.. You can Entertain and Educate, by providing them with simple, fun gamification to watch, play, and experiment with—while delivering on-point, useful content. Help to build brand credibility and loyalty when providing Engaging brand experiences and conversions that get customers involved and Excite them by delivering helpful, actionable assets unique to your brand. Lastly, e-comm. To get consumers to buy, it helps to get personal and provide meaningful experiences at each stage of their journey, which often makes the transaction, and follow-on loyalty development easier.
Dean DeBiase – Reboot Partners
Making Web3-3D Moves in a Web2-2D World
Smart organizations are seperating the hype from the roadmap, and planning around the fact that the mass-market will be living in a Web2-2D world for a while longer. As a user and teacher of technology transformation and trends, at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, I like how Gartner breaks out the evolution with a ten year roadmap—however there will be other forecasts. Additionally, Revieve published a Metaverse Playbook, with details of what companies can consider doing now and next—you can get it here.
Gartner
As organizations navigate toward Web3—while operating in a Web2 world—and testing platforms and technologies that are part of consumer journies into the Metaverse, they will learn to meet the mass, and more often niche, audiences where they are along the way.

QUARTERBACK MAC JONES
PRESS CONFERENCE
September 21, 2022
Q: After starting two games on the road, how nice is it to be back home?
MJ: I think we’ve done a good job preparing for the games, regardless of where they’re going to be and we’ve got to do that this week. We’re excited to get in front of our fans and go out there and play on our home field.
Q: Has anything changed for you coming off that first win? Is there a better atmosphere or is it kind of the same for you guys?
MJ: I think early in the season, we’ve played two games so far and you can’t focus on the results, you’ve just got to continue to stick to the process of what you do each week. Every player has their own routine and I like to stick to mine. Like I said, it’s a long year and you want to have the routine in place so that you can have that process. Obviously, you want to win every game. We won the last one and we just want to try to stack them again.
Q: The Ravens gave up 28 points in the fourth quarter, are there any areas you think you can exploit in that defense?
MJ: I think their defense is really good, they always have been. This year, they have a lot of really good players. I think that was a really interesting game for sure, but it was just a few plays. They did a really good job in their first two games overall and like I said, the players are there, the schemes are there, obviously, kind of a new scheme-ish. They’re trying to learn it, trying to communicate with each other, you can tell. Really, really good players, ball hawks in the secondary, good upfront, good at linebacker, so definitely have our plate full.
Q: How would you explain some of the bad tape, the plays from the past two games that you’d might want back or want to improve on?
MJ: There’s not really any bad tape. I think there’s things that you want to have back but if you win the game, you can sit there and complain about plays you wish you had back, but at the end of the day, you won, and that’s what’s important. It’s not about always winning super pretty all the time, it’s about winning, so that’s all I care about, all I’ve ever cared about. All the other stuff takes care of itself. Obviously, like I said, you want to put good plays stacked on top of each other and you need to have more consistency with that, but the really bad plays are coming down to a bit more slim. That’s the goal and you can do that each week and then improve. The wins will come and that’s the only thing that matters.
Q: In the process you talked about, are you in a position that you can just react to the offense or are you thinking a little too much more than you’d like to at this point?
MJ: I never really react to the offense, I react to the defense. Obviously, that’s your goal as the quarterback, it’s see what the defense does and react to it. I’ve always done that, when the ball is snapped, let go of everything and go out there and let it rip. I don’t really think I’m overthinking at all.
Q: Are you seeing signs that you’re going to find more easy throws?
MJ: I think every offense is different and we have really good skill players. They’ve done a good job and like you said, the players are really good in the NFL, so it’s not going to be a wide open play every time, but when it is, I need to hit them. There’s a few of those I wish I could have hit last week and that’s gone now, so all you can do is try and hit the ones this week. They’ve done a good job getting open. I like the hard throws, I like the easy throws, just whatever moves the ball down the field is good for me, and good for the offense. Obviously, we’ve actually moved it pretty well in terms of yardage and all that. Just knocking it in when we get down there and coming up with ways to get the ball in the endzone.
Q: People are asking this week, ‘is Mac improving or is he not’? People look at the standards of improvement as stats, are there other markings of improvement that you think people are missing?
MJ: I mean, every week you’re trying to improve. I’d say we improved from week one to week two and it’s not just me, it’s everybody. We all improved and got better. We got a lot of games and we got a big one this week. That’s all you can judge yourself on is your last game. We won our last game, so that’s all that matters and the next week is the next week. That’s all you can focus on. I’m not sure about the stats and stuff, I don’t really look at them. I don’t have much information there for you, the only one, like I said, it’s either a W or an L and that’s the only one that matters.
Q: At Alabama and a little bit last week you guys ran some RPOs. At Alabama that was a big thing for you. How much do you like that play? Do you hope that there’s more of them in the future for you guys here?
MJ: Good job watching film. No I think we did it a little bit. But I like those plays. I think every offense has some of them, in some way, shape or form. They’re good plays. But we have to be able to do a lot of things. Like I always say, there’s different types of plays – short, medium, long, play-action, RPO, gadget. So there’s different buckets you put them in and you want to be able to do all of them. So yeah, I like RPOs. They’re cool.
Q: Why do you like them?
MJ: I think it puts stress on the defense. I definitely learned in college just watching Coach [Nick] Saban sometimes explode at practice. Just knowing he’s trying to tell somebody to do something but his guy’s running a route but then it’s also a run. Is it a pass? So there’s a lot of cool grey area there from an offensive perspective. I’ve always, obviously we didn’t run them in high school, I ran the wing T. They were new to me at Alabama. I’ve seen teams run them on film. Some teams do it right. Some teams do it in interesting ways. You can’t really ever tell if it’s a RPO, or a play-action sometimes. It’s kind of an interesting play.
Q: Is that something you were able to bring to the table this offseason as you guys were getting ready for this year? It’s just something we haven’t really seen.
MJ: Yeah I think definitely. Other teams were doing them too around the league, and having good production. So I think, like I said, every offense has their core plays and you don’t necessarily want your RPOs to be your core plays which they’re not. But it’s always good to have that extra flavor you can have in there. Like you said, it’s a run, it’s a pass, what is it? So I think they’re always good. We just have to keep growing, growing from them. Learn how to do them and continue to figure it out early on. That’s kind of what early on in the season is for, figuring out what we want to do. Then once we find out what really fits, we’ll use that throughout the year.
Q: I wanted to follow up on something you actually said after the game. I think you were asked about the touchdown to Nelson [Agholor] and you talked about how it was sort of a 50-50 ball. You mentioned it was sort of a different philosophy than maybe last year, throwing to somebody who might be well covered, but just kind of trusting them to go make a play. Has that been a difficult philosophy to embrace for you?
MJ: No, I think it’s great. I think we want to give all of our playmakers a chance. A lot of our plays there’s a certain read on it. I do like the freedom to be able to do that. I did that a lot in the past. It’s great. I think 50-50’s a slight term, it’s like oh it can go either way. But it’s hard to defend when you’re one-on-one and there’s not a lot of people around you. So, I know it’s hard on the defender, and obviously they can make good plays too. So, it can go either way. But we definitely trust the guys and we’ve worked on it a lot. You’ll have to have time to be able to do that with the offensive line which we have. Just want to continue to grow with that. Sometimes they look close but then eventually they’re going to be really open. So, it just depends on the play.
Q: On some of those 50-50 plays maybe that’s a bit (inaudible) decisions you make pre-snap based on match-up or are those things you identify and come back to after awhile knowing you at least have a one-on-one as maybe a third, or your last read?
MJ: I think just for me, the biggest thing is, what’s the play and what’s the purpose of the play? As long as I know the purpose, I have the green light to do what I’m supposed to do. If I don’t know the purpose and we still call it, we’re probably just trying to see the play and there’s other reasons why we’re trying to do it. So for me that’s always been my thing is what do you want me to do as the quarterback to make this a successful play? You have to trust the coaches and allow them to work. That’s what they do really well, is scheme up things and put you in a good position. They’re never going to put me in a bad position. That’s their job. My job is to run what they’re doing and do it really well. So, we have confidence in it. We want to continue to grow and do things even better as players.

The heads of several of the top U.S. banks said Wednesday they don’t have any plans to finance cryptocurrency miners.
Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), a crypto mining critic, asked the heads of three major banks whether they intended to finance crypto mining during a congressional hearing of the House Financial Services Committee.
“I do not believe so,” Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser said. Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and Wells Fargo CEO Charles Scharf both said their banks had no plans for that either.
In April, Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), who leads a subcommittee within the U.S. House of Representatives’ Natural Resources Committee, recruited almost two dozen Democratic colleagues to urge federal environmental officials to devote further scrutiny to the consequences of cryptocurrency mining.
Raising capital has become difficult for miners this year as the price of bitcoin (BTC) has slumped and energy prices have skyrocketed. Miners have had to get creative, while various companies are attempting to fill the void for miners. Decentralized finance (DeFi) firm Maple Finance, for example, is starting a $300 million lending pool for mid-size bitcoin miners across North America and Australia.
Industry participants also expect some mergers and acquisitions as miners grapple with lower crypto prices.

New airport technology is rolling out across the county. The Cherry Capital Airport located in Traverse City is one of these ports who have received new security machines.
This new credential authentication technology allows flyers to no longer receive a visual inspection from the document checker. Instead you will hand over your ID. It then will be inserted into a machine, validated and verified that you are flying out that day.
These new machines allow flyers to get through security lines quicker as well as add an extra layer of security by ensuring no fraudulent documents are being used to travel.
“We’re no longer have any element of human error there because we know that the ID is good, it’s not fraudulent, it’s connected to the person who’s giving it to us,” Jessica Mayle, the Regional Spokesperson for Transportation Security Administration states. “That’s a huge improvement and I think a more secure experience for the passenger.
In addition to this new technology, TSA advises travelers to also get TSA pre-check to ensure a speedy security experience.

Travel and entertainment companies lead biggest decliners in S&P 500
Eighteen of the 20 stocks that slid the most in the S&P 500 were companies in the entertainment and travel industries — sectors that get hit hardest during an economic downturn.
Hotel-and-casino giant Caesars led the pack, down about 7.5%.
The companies sliding the most represented a wide swath of sub-industries, including:
Hotels and resorts (Hilton, Marriott, Wynn, Host Hotels & Resorts, Las Vegas Sands)
Live events (Live Nation)
Casinos (MGM)
Online travel booking services (Expedia, Booking Holdings)
Cruise lines (Carnival, Royal Caribbean)
Entertainment brands (Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, Fox)

Parts of the equity market don’t buy that Fed will keep hiking
Even though the Federal Reserve just delivered its third consecutive 0.75 percentage point rate hike to tamp down inflation, markets are looking for any reason for a dovish read, said Kevin Gordon, senior investment research manager at Charles Schwab.
“Parts of the equity market don’t buy that they’re going to continue to keep their foot on the brake,” he said.
He added that it’s clear that markets react – and often rally – any time that Fed chair Powell mentions any softening of economic data or signs of lower growth. That’s because investors are hoping that the Fed pauses and pivots to rate cuts sooner rather than later.
That’s unlikely, though, according to Gordon.
“Pain is sort of a code word for recession,” he said, commenting on Powell’s use of the word in his Wednesday press conference that he first used in his Jackson Hole speech in August.

Investors should stay underweight on equities, Glenmede’s Pride says
Following Wednesday’s 75 basis point increase, Glenmede estimated the federal funds rate now sits close to neutral and could surpass it with future rate hikes. That should give investors pause, said one of its investing chiefs.
“Given the stubborn inertia of inflation and the Fed’s will to fight it, prevailing premium valuations on equities do not appear justified given the material risks facing the economy and corporate profits,” said Jason Pride, Glenmede’s private wealth chief investment officer. “As a result, investors should maintain an underweight to equity/market risk.”
Pride also noted that the Fed’s economic projections show the median respondent expecting slower economic growth and an increased unemployment rate.
That is “essentially an admission that economic pain will likely be tolerated as an incidental effect from rising interest rates meant to combat inflation,” he said.
— Alex Harring
Markets are mostly pricing in recession scenario
Stocks are finally coming around to the idea that the Federal Reserve is willing to push the economy into a recession to tame inflation, according to Chris Zaccarelli, chief investment officer of Independent Advisor Alliance.
“The market is beginning to believe that the Fed is willing to cause a recession in order to bring inflation back down,” said Zaccarelli.
He added that it seems that a recession scenario is about two-thirds priced in because stocks are down about 20% from all-time highs, instead of 30%.
“We would continue to exercise caution in the near term as the Fed is determined to keep raising rates until inflation begins to drop closer to their Fed Funds target,” he said.

Tech leads S&P 500 bounce
Tech stocks led a bounce in the S&P 500 that pushed the broad market index up about 1% on the day at one point.
As of 2:49 p.m. ET, the S&P 500 tech sector was up 1%, with Nvidia, DXC Technology and Skyworks among the best performers. Megacap tech stock Microsoft was also up more than 1%.

Market rebounds in volatile trading as Powell speaks
Stocks rebounded from their session lows as Powell began his news conference.
The Dow and S&P 500 hovered around the flatline as of 2:40 p.m., while the Nasdaq Composite traded 0.1% higher. The major averages were down sharply after the Fed announced its decision to raise rates by 75 basis points — giving up gains from earlier in the day.

Aggressiveness Fed is signaling is a surprise, could risk recession, BofA says
The Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 0.75 percentage point Wednesday, its third consecutive hike of that size, to cool down high inflation.
The central bank also raised its terminal rate – how far it expects to hike before pausing – to 4.6% in 2023. By the end of the year, it will get to 4.4%, which means there’s at least one more 0.75 percentage point hike coming.
That’s more than some expected and potentially signals that the Fed is willing to push the U.S. economy into a recession.
“The extent of the aggressiveness that the Fed is signaling did indeed surprise us,” said Mark Cabana, head of U.S. short rates at Bank of America. “This is very consistent with the recent shift in commentary from the Fed, and it certainly sounds like a Fed that is absolutely okay risking recession, bringing inflation lower with restrictive monetary policy.”
—Carmen Reinicke, Patti Domm
Market reverses after Fed announcement
The major averages gave up gains from earlier in the day after the Fed raised rates and said it sees the terminal rate going to 4.6%.
The Dow, which was up more than 100 point heading into the announcement, was last down more than 200 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were also lower.

Expect a ‘short-lived’ relief rally coming off of Fed decision, Wolfe Research’s Senyek says
Prepare for a brief market rally after the Federal Reserve doles out its rate hike decision on Wednesday, Wolfe Research’s Chris Senyek says.
“Our sense is that markets could be set up for a short-lived relief rally if the Fed hikes by +75bps and Powell doesn’t ratchet up his hawkish rhetoric even further,” he wrote in a note to clients. “That said, we don’t anticipate having to change our intermediate-term bearish call.”
Going forward, Senyek expects core inflation to remain sticky. That will likely force the Fed to raise the fed funds rate to 5% or greater if it hopes to achieve its long-term goal of 2%.
Vital Knowledge’s Adam Crisafulli agreed with Senyek’s sentiment.
“The consensus view is that stocks will squeeze after the Fed this afternoon before surrendering the whole move and then some Thurs, Fri, and beyond,” he said in a note to clients Wednesday.

Yield on 2-year Treasury note tops 4% for first time since October 2007
The yield on the 2-year Treasury note hit above 4% for the first time since 2007 on Wednesday as traders questioned whether the Federal Reserve will need to hike even further to tame surging inflation.
The 2-year Treasury yield rose 4 basis points to 4.006%. It last touched that level in October 2007. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury was last trading at 3.561%, down by roughly 1 basis points, after notching an 11-year high this week.
According to some investors, the inversion — which continues to put short-term rates above long-term rates — indicates rising risks of a recession ahead.

Only two stocks hit new 52-week highs on Wednesday
General Mills and Northrop Grumman were the only two stocks in the S&P 500 to hit new 52-week highs during Wednesday morning trading.
General Mills is trading at all-time highs dating back to 1927, and Northrop Grumman is at its highest point since the 1994 merger between Northrop Aircraft and Grumman Aerospace.
Meanwhile, eight stocks in the broader market index hit new 52-week lows, including Match Group, which is trading at an all-time low since its 2015 IPO.
Here are the new S&P 500 52-week lows:
Charter Communications trading at lows not seen since March 2020
Meta Platforms trading at lows not seen since March 2020

Laredo Medical Center staff, TAMIU and LC nursing students gathered and hosted booths during the Healthy Connections Fair to promote healthy aging and practices on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022.
Christian Alejandro Ocampo
In conjunction with Healthy Aging Month, Laredo Medical Center invited residents of all ages to their Healthy Connection Fair on Tuesday to promote preventative measures and a general good sense of the services available in Laredo.
The inaugural event also was an opportunity for hospital staff, nursing students and residents to come together and work together in the spirit of stronger health care.
“Whether you are 25 years old, 50 or better, the goal of this event is to raise awareness on the positive aspects of growing older,” Jorge Leal, FACHE and CEO of LMC said. “The fair will feature exhibits by many of our health care providers to help you take charge of your physical and mental health, as well as learn about healthy eating, fall prevention and much more. All of these factors contribute to successful aging.”
Leal added that the goal of the fair was to kickstart and encourage residents to visit a doctor for initial check-ups and monitoring one’s own levels. These routine check-ups should be increased as one gets older, and the fair can be a starting point to get on that track. With the inaugural fair done, residents can most likely expect similar or more booths to be set up next year, that include booths for drawing blood, stroke prevention, heart care, sleep aid, blood pressure and more.
“That’s the whole point of this fair, bringing everybody together as we continue to age, and not going through critical moments because there is so much that can be done by actually going to speaking with a physician or a clinician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant,” Leal said. “And by you having that conversation with your doctor, there is so much you can prevent at the same time.”
The fair was held at the LMC main entrance foyer, where attendees were greeted by nursing students and booths with specialized focuses on different aspects of health. In one booth, sleep and sleep aids could be discussed, while in the next one strokes were the main topic.
As Laredo’s biggest health issues, hypertension and diabetes both are causes for concern among residents, and LMC Stroke Coordinator Chantel Molina hosted the stroke booth to inform residents about the causes and symptoms of a stroke.
She outlined the BE FAST campaign, which is as follows:
B — Balance.
E — Eyes.
F — Face.
A — Arms.
S — Speech.
T — Time.
Molina said that doctors recommend and urge anyone who experiences or recognizes stroke symptoms to rush to the hospital. Waiting for too long may exacerbate any disability or their mortality rate. A treatment window is 24 hours, and LMC has a medication that breaks down the clot blocking the area in brain, but the window for that medication is 4-5 hours.
“Stroke is not very discriminating,” Molina said. “Pediatrics can have strokes, we are seeing adults as of 30-40 years old, and a lot of them, its not just minute numbers. Again, it doesn’t discriminate, strokes can be seen throughout your lifespan.”
In August alone, LMC treated 59 strokes. Molina said that it was a relatively higher number than previous figures recorded. She explained that heat strokes were not the same as the strokes LMC has treated, which are from brain clots due in part to family health issues, diabetes and COVID-19, with smoking being a major risk factor.
“A lot of this is very preventive,” Molina said. “Don’t get me wrong, there’s people that do everything. They take their meds, they control their blood pressure, diabetes, and they still have the stroke. Most cases are that they did not take care of themselves.”
Blood pressure checks were also available, with attendees and nursing students from both Laredo College and TAMIU striking up conversations with those at their booths. The setting was an opportunity for residents to meet the new nursing talent and for the students to get hands on creating a bond with Laredo’s patients.
Calixto Cerna, a TAMIU fourth-semester nursing student, praised the university’s nurturing of nursing students’ careers and the focus on ethical practice. He said that he feels that he has been prepared adequately when interacting with patients and highlighted the avoidance of simple interactions without creating a relationship with said patients.
“Its more patient centric care where we want to treat them based on how the patient themselves is presenting and experiencing the disease,” he added, stating he takes his experience to the hospital setting in order to be the pillar of support patients look for in their health care staff.
Between the course at school and the rotations at the hospital, Cerna said that students to learn more in-depth in the hospital setting while also making connections with hospital staff.
Cerna, whose mother was a nurse, said that her encouragement and the flexibility of a nurses’ specialization led him to take on the nursing career. With the drive to help others and the flexibility of jumping into the ICU or any specialty, he ultimately wishes to teach nursing after a long and helpful career at the hospital.
As a first semester LC nursing student, Lindsey Reyes said that her class is currently learning the fundamentals of nursing and called the connections fair an eye-opening experience in regards to meeting with patients, hospital staff and fellow nursing students. This benefits her communication with the community and is an aspect of a tough program that rewards those that put their all into it, she said.
As a former city employee at the Laredo Health Department, Reyes emphasized the importance of outreach in the community to promote healthy living and health check-ups at schools and rural areas with residents who may not have the capacity to visit the hospital.
As a medically underserved community, residents in the colonias face the added obstacle of not always having reliable transportation to health care facilities. Reyes said that reaching out to the community is a vital area of health care and was a major component of her seven-year position at the health department.
Leal said that to address the medically underserved designation, more recruitment efforts have been made to attempt to bring more providers to the community. He added that with more staff brought to Laredo, that could shorten the federal designation.

Robert Sarver says he has started the process of selling the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, a move that comes only eight days after he was suspended by the NBA over workplace misconduct that included racist speech and hostile behavior toward employees.
Sarver made the announcement Wednesday, saying selling “is the best course of action,” although he initially hoped he would be able to keep control of the franchises — pointing to his record that, he claims, paints a dramatically different picture of who he is and what he stands for.
“But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that that is no longer possible — that whatever good I have done, or could still do, is outweighed by things I have said in the past,” Sarver wrote in a statement. “For those reasons, I am beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and Mercury.”
Sarver bought the teams in July 2004 for about $400 million. He is not the lone owner, but the primary one.
Political Cartoons
Assuming no other team is sold in the interim, it would be the first sale in the NBA since a group led by Qualtrics co-founder Ryan Smith bought the Utah Jazz in 2021 for about $1.7 billion.
It’s not known if Sarver has established an asking price. Forbes recently estimated the value of the Suns at $1.8 billion.
An independent report that was commissioned by the NBA last November and took about 10 months to complete found Sarver “repeated or purported to repeat the N-word on at least five occasions spanning his tenure with the Suns,” though added that the investigation “makes no finding that Sarver used this racially insensitive language with the intent to demean or denigrate.”
The study also concluded that Sarver used demeaning language toward female employees, including telling a pregnant employee that she would not be able to do her job after becoming a mother; making off-color comments and jokes about sex and anatomy; and yelling and cursing at employees in ways that would be considered bullying “under workplace standards.”
Once that report was completed, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver suspended Sarver for one year and fined him $10 million — the maximum allowed by league rule.
“Words that I deeply regret now overshadow nearly two decades of building organizations that brought people together — and strengthened the Phoenix area — through the unifying power of professional men’s and women’s basketball,” Sarver wrote. “As a man of faith, I believe in atonement and the path to forgiveness. I expected that the commissioner’s one-year suspension would provide the time for me to focus, make amends and remove my personal controversy from the teams that I and so many fans love.”
Barely a week later, Sarver evidently realized that would not be possible.
His decision comes after a chorus of voices — from players like Suns guard Chris Paul and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, to longtime team sponsors like PayPal, and even the National Basketball Players Association — said the one-year suspension wasn’t enough.
James weighed in again Wednesday, shortly after Sarver’s statement went public: “I’m so proud to be a part of a league committed to progress!” he tweeted.
Added retired NBA player Etan Thomas, also in a tweet: “Sarver is cashing out so this is not really a punishment for him but definitely glad he will be gone.”
Suns vice chairman Jahm Najafi called last week for Sarver to resign, saying there should be “zero tolerance” for lewd, misogynistic and racist conduct in any workplace. Najafi, in that same statement, also said he did not have designs on becoming the team’s primary owner.
“I do not want to be a distraction to these two teams and the fine people who work so hard to bring the joy and excitement of basketball to fans around the world,” Sarver wrote. “I want what’s best for these two organizations, the players, the employees, the fans, the community, my fellow owners, the NBA and the WNBA. This is the best course of action for everyone.”
Sarver, through his attorney, argued to the NBA during the investigative process that his record as an owner shows a “longstanding commitment to social and racial justice” and that it shows he’s had a “commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.” Among the examples Sarver cited was what he described as a league-best rate of 55% employment of minorities within the Suns’ front office and how more than half of the team’s coaches and general managers in his tenure — including current coach Monty Williams and current GM James Jones — are Black.

The Best IPhone 14 Pro Cases Of 2022 – How-To Geek https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-best-iphone-14-pro-cases-of-2022-how-to-geek/
Thanes.Op/Shutterstock.com
What to Look For in an iPhone 14 Pro Case
Phone cases come in various shapes and sizes, and the newly announced iPhone 14 Pro is no exception. With so many options to choose from, your first consideration should be design and functionality.
So, a rugged case would be a good idea if you’re all about protecting your new device. And if you want a simple covering to prevent scratches without necessarily hiding your phone’s design, a clear case would be a better option.
While a phone case is primarily meant to cover your phone, it could also serve for holding other things like cards and money. In that instance, a wallet case should be your go-to choice. They come in varying capacities, from basic bumper cases able to hold a few cards to folio cases with more pockets than you know what to do with.
The iPhone 14 Pro supports MagSafe accessories and wireless charging. But since the technology requires your phone to be in direct contact with the charger or MagSafe accessory, some cases interfere with it.
Thankfully, many new cases are built to support this feature, either by incorporating a MagSafe ring or just being thin enough not to cause any problems. Make sure to look out for that if wireless charging is a big deal for you.
Even if you have your desired features sorted, there are still so many cases to choose from. To ease your decision-making process, we’ve handpicked some of the best iPhone 14 Pro cases you can buy and reviewed them based on common categories. Without further ado, let’s get straight into the list.
Best iPhone 14 Pro Case Overall: Smartish Gripmunk
Smartish
Pros
✓ Grippy design
✓ MagSafe compatible
✓ Air pocket corners
✓ Multiple design options
Cons
✗ Not great for face-down drops
The Smartish Gripmunk iPhone 14 Pro Case is our overall pick for its simplistic design and packed features. Its slight flexibility makes installation easy, but the material is solid enough to last a long time. Holding the case gives a strong sense of firmness thanks to the grippy textured pattern on the back and sides and finger grooves on the edges.
For device protection, the sides of the case surrounding the screen and camera module are raised. There are also air pockets on the corners to reduce the impact of the phone hitting the ground on any of the edges. And it’s compatible with MagSafe thanks to its relative thinness.
While the case is not necessarily flashy, you have the luxury of choosing from a few colors and patterns or even customizing one yourself to give it an extra flair.
Best iPhone 14 Pro Case Overall
Best Budget iPhone 14 Pro Case: Encased Thin Armor
Pros
✓ Inexpensive
✓ Comes with a tempered glass
✓ Simple and elegant design
Cons
✗ Not built for drop protection
If you need a good case for your new iPhone but don’t want to spend too much money, the Encased Thin Armor iPhone 14 Pro Case is a great option. It’s made from flexible TPU material with a slim and bulk-free design. Despite the minimalistic appearance, the case features a subtle embedded pattern that enhances grip when held in hand.
While the case has a typical bumper design that only covers the back and sides, it comes bundled with a tempered glass screen protector to secure the front. This will keep your new phone screen from getting scratched or dinged without needing a separate screen protector.
Just don’t expect it to protect your phone from a hard fall, as it’s too light for that.
Best Budget iPhone 14 Pro Case
Best MagSafe iPhone 14 Pro Case: Apple Silicone Case
Pros
✓ MagSafe compatible
✓ Numerous color options
Cons
✗ Won’t protect your phone from serious falls
If you all want a simple case with MagSafe compatibility, look no further than Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Silicone Case. It features built-in magnets that align with iPhone 14 Pro’s magnetic ring for compatibility with all MagSafe accessories. Plus, it’s thin enough to work with Qi-certified wireless chargers without much interference.
The case has a soft-touch finish that feels great in your hand. It also has slightly raised lips for the screen and camera bump to reduce the risk of scratches. Unlike the iPhone 14 Pro itself, which comes in just four colors, the silicone case offers up to seven colorways, including Red and Storm Blue.
The only downside is that the case is thinner and won’t protect your phone from high falls, or drops on hard surfaces. If you’re not prone to dropping your phone, that’s no concern.
Best MagSafe iPhone 14 Pro Case
Best Wallet iPhone 14 Pro Case: Smartish Wallet Slayer Vol. 2
Pros
✓ Can contain three cards plus cash
✓ Grippy design
✓ Corner protection
Cons
✗ No MagSafe compatibility
Most people carry around their wallets and phones separately. But sometimes, you just want the extra convenience a wallet case provides. The Smartish Wallet Slayer Vol. 2 is ideal for such scenarios.
It’s thin enough to still feel like a standard smartphone case but has a pocket at the back for storing up to three cards and some cash. The cards can also act as a kickstand to prop the phone for watching.
The case is designed to fit well in hand, with textured and slightly notched sides that enhance contact. Protection is a priority, too, as the Wallet Slayer features air pocket corners for better drop safety.
While the case is not overly thick, it’s not thin either (especially at full card capacity), so you sacrifice compatibility with Qi wireless and MagSafe chargers. This is a given for a wallet case with the card storage on the back, but it’s important to keep in mind if you’re planning on using a wireless charger.
Best Wallet iPhone 14 Pro Case
Smartish Wallet Slayer Vol. 2
The wallet slayer is perfect for those who want an iPhone 14 Pro case that also happens to be a wallet. It’s neither thick nor bulky.
Best Rugged iPhone 14 Pro Case: Spigen Rugged Armor
Pros
✓ All-round protection
✓ Portable
✓ MagSafe support
Cons
✗ Not great for drops on uneven surfaces
Rugged cases often come in bulky, cumbersome builds that throw convenience out the window to prioritize device protection. But that doesn’t always have to be the case. With the Spigen Rugged Armor for iPhone 14, you can protect your Pro without the user experience taking a considerable hit. And, with the carbon fiber texture, it looks good as well.
The Rugged Armor has all the bells and whistles of a protective case, including slightly raised edges around the screen and camera module, as well as cushioned corners. The icing on the cake is the MagSafe compatibility, which means you don’t have to take the case off to use your supported charger.
But, Spigen’s case is still pretty light—while it will protect your phone from most drops on flat surfaces, it’s not robust enough for drops on uneven areas. Granted, that sort of drop is hard to protect for without an extremely bulky case, so it’s a fair trade-off.
Best Rugged iPhone 14 Pro Case
Spigen Rugged Armor
This rugged case offers excellent protection while being slim and portable simultaneously.
Best Clear iPhone 14 Pro Case: TORRAS Crystal Clear Case
Pros
✓ Anti-yellowing tech
✓ Thin and stylish build
✓ MagSafe compatible
Cons
✗ Poor drop protection
Clear cases are the go-to choice for those who want to protect their devices while letting the beauty of the phone shine through, and the TORRAS Crystal Clear Case is the best for your iPhone 14 Pro. The case is made with flexible TPU material, and thanks to the thin design, it fits your phone snuggly, so it doesn’t feel too different from holding it bare.
One common problem of clear cases is that they yellow with time. However, the Crystal Clear case boasts several levels of anti-yellowing tech that increase its immunity to discoloration. It also supports MagSafe and wireless charging, and its non-slip design ensures you always have a secure grip.
Just keep in mind, as you would expect from a case of this build, it doesn’t offer the best device protection.

TORRAS Crystal Clear Case
As the name implies, the case is crystal clear and will stay that way for long thanks to its anti-yellowing properties.
Best Thin iPhone 14 Pro Case: Totallee Thin iPhone 14 Pro Case
Pros
✓ Super thin design
✓ Multiple color options
✓ MagSafe support
Cons
✗ Not great for protection
The Totallee Thin iPhone 14 Pro Case is our choice for the thin pick. It measures 0.04 inches in thickness for the transparent model and 0.02 inches if you go for the colored options. Speaking of color, the options to choose from include black, white, blue, red, and green, and they’re all MagSafe compatible.
The colored case is made of hard but flexible plastic with a matte finish to hide fingerprint smudges, while the transparent version is put together from a soft and grippy TPU material. Whichever you go for, you’ll get a slightly raised lip around the camera bump for scratch protection.
However, like the TORRAS Crystal Clear Case, it isn’t built for all-around protection. This is meant to protect your iPhone 14 from dings, scratches, and little else.

(Kitco News) – The wider crypto market traded mixed on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve announced a 75 bps hike in interest rates, aligning with consensus estimates and putting concerns about the ramifications of a full percentage point increase to rest.
Overall, it appears that the rate hike announcement was largely priced in, with traders maintaining their current positions after the afternoon failed to produce any unexpected developments.
Data from TradingView shows that while volatility spiked around the time that Fed Chair Powell was giving his speech, whipsawing the price of Bitcoin (BTC) from a high of $19,840 to a low of $18,700, after the dust settled BTC was trading slightly in the green above the $19,000 support level.

BTCs post-FOMC performance was a welcomed sight for many in the crypto ecosystem following Monday’s dismal performance which saw its price hit a three-month low.
Bulls still have work to do; however, as bears still remain in control of the price action according to Kitco senior technical analyst Jim Wyckoff.
“The bears have the overall near-term technical advantage amid a price downtrend in place on the daily chart. The path of least resistance for prices is presently sideways to lower,” Wyckoff said in his morning Bitcoin update.
Watch out for a bull trap
Not all traders in the market were quick to jump on the BTC price rally following the interest rate hike announcement including market analyst and pseudonymous Twitter user il Capo of Crypto, who posted the following tweet warning that the market could pump and then dump as a result of Powell’s remarks.
Good morning.
Expecting a scam pump pre FOMC and downtrend continuation afterwards. How high could it go? First target would be 20300-20600. If it breaks that level, we could see 22800-23000.
Remember that every bounce is a short opportunity.
— il Capo Of Crypto (@CryptoCapo_) September 21, 2022
In a follow-up tweet, Capo posted the following chart outlining a more bearish path forwards for Bitcoin which could see it drop into the $14,000 – $16,000 range before finding its footing and once again climbing higher.

A mixed bag for the altcoin market
Volatility also spiked across the altcoin market, leading to a mixed bag of results with several tokens climbing higher while the vast majority of projects traded flat to negative.

The top altcoin Ether (ETH) saw its price decline 1.54% to trade at a price of $1,333 at the time of writing and is down more than 15.7% on the weekly chart.
Out of the top 200 tokens by market cap, the biggest gainers over the past 24 hours include a 14.05% increase for CEEK VR (CEEK), a 12.58% gain for Reserve Rights (RSR), and a 12.08% climb for Ellipsis (EPS).
The overall cryptocurrency market cap now stands at $949 billion, and Bitcoin’s dominance rate is 39.6%.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 21 (Reuters) – The United States and Iran clashed on security and human rights on Wednesday, with Iran’s president demanding U.S. guarantees to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the U.S. president vowing Tehran would never get an atomic bomb.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi struck a defiant tone at the United Nations General Assembly by decrying “double standards” on human rights after the death of an Iranian woman in police custody that has sparked protests around Iran.
Raisi also said Tehran wanted former U.S. President Donald Trump to face trial for the 2020 killing of Iran’s top Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani in a U.S. drone attack in Iraq, holding up a picture of the general.

“There is a great and serious will to resolve all issues to revive the (2015 nuclear) deal,” Raisi told the U.N. General Assembly. “We only wish one thing: observance of commitments.”
Speaking later, U.S. President Joe Biden reiterated his willingness to revive the nuclear pact under which Iran had agreed to restrain its atomic program in return for relief from economic sanctions.
In 2018, Trump withdrew the United States from the nuclear deal and unilaterally reimposed sanctions that have hobbled Iran’s economy.
A year later, Tehran reacted by gradually violating the deal’s nuclear limits and reviving U.S., Israeli and Gulf Arab fears that Iran may be seeking to obtain an atomic weapon, an ambition Iran denies.
“We have before us the experience of America’s withdrawal from the (deal),” Raisi said. “With that experience and this perspective, can we ignore the important issue of guarantees for a durable agreement?”
Raisi did not mention Iran’s demand that investigations by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) into traces of uranium found at three undeclared Iranian sites be closed, a major stumbling block to reviving the deal.
U.S. and European officials have said the probes can only be closed if Iran provides satisfactory answers to the U.N. nuclear watchdog whose chief, Rafael Grossi, said these issues cannot be wished away. read more
‘DOUBLE STANDARDS’
Raisi also sought to deflect criticism of last week’s death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by morality police in Tehran for “unsuitable attire”. Amini’s death has unleashed anger in the streets since Friday over issues including freedoms in the Islamic Republic and an economy reeling from sanctions. read more
At least seven people have been killed in protests with some demanding “regime change”.
“The Islamic Republic considers the double standards of some governments in the field of human rights as the most important factor in the institutionalization of human rights violations,” Raisi said in a text of his speech released by his office.
He said this led to “diverse and numerous positions towards an incident under investigation in … Iran,” an apparent reference to Amini’s case, and “the deathly silence” about allegations of human rights violations in the West.
“Human rights belongs to all, but unfortunately it is trampled upon by many governments,” he added, referring to the discovery of unmarked graves of indigenous people in Canada, the suffering of the Palestinians and images of migrant children held in cages in the United States.
Biden expressed a willingness to return to the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and made clear U.S. sympathies lay with the protesters in Iran.
“While the United States is prepared for a mutual return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action if Iran steps up to its obligations, the United States is clear: We will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon,” he said, repeating a long-held U.S. position.
“We stand with the brave citizens and the brave women of Iran who right now are demonstrating to secure their basic rights,” Biden added.

Ford Looks To Increase Safety With Smartphone Tech – U.S. News & World Report https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ford-looks-to-increase-safety-with-smartphone-tech-u-s-news-world-report/
In outdoor-enthusiast cities like Austin, Texas, cyclists and pedestrians share the road with motorists, trying to carve out a peaceful and safe coexistence. Unfortunately, the number of traffic and bicyclist fatalities is increasing in these cities and around the country. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), traffic fatalities increased 13% to 7,342 in 2021 versus 2020 and bicyclist traffic fatalities increased 5% (for a total of 1,000) during the same time period.
Ford is aiming to improve that number with a new concept smartphone app that helps alert drivers to people on two wheels or two feet on the road. The technology harnesses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to notify connected Ford vehicle drivers of pedestrians and bicyclists, even if they’re hidden from view.
BLE was created in 2011 to use the same radio wavebands as typical Bluetooth, but to do the same function using less battery power. The way that works is BLE devices remain asleep in between connections, transferring data with the smallest amount of power as possible.
In conjunction with Commsignia, PSS, Ohio State University, T-Mobile and Tome Software, Ford developed the concept, and the automaker is demonstrating it at the Intelligent Transportation Society of America’s (ITSA) World Congress in Los Angeles. Ohio State University and T-Mobile are household names, but less so is Commsignia, which was launched a decade ago and focuses on research and application of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-everything technology. PSS provides safety innovation and education, and Tome Software has worked with Ford before on bicycle-to-vehicle communications.
This new smartphone-based concept technology works as an app on a pedestrian’s or cyclist’s phone to communicate their location to a connected Ford vehicle. When a potential crash risk is detected, Ford’s in-car Sync system alerts the driver with graphics and audio alerts.
Ford says its newer vehicles equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360 Technology can use this app to avoid a crash and apply the brakes if the driver doesn’t respond in time.
“We see other possible applications for this technology, including detecting road construction zones and construction workers,” said Ford’s Executive Director, Research and Advanced Engineering, Jim Buczkowski in a press release.
Unlike radar or cameras, both of which rely on line-of-sight to assess a risky situation, BLE can detect pedestrians and bicycle riders even when hidden behind obstructions such as buildings, poles, signs and other common city obstacles. While typical Bluetooth connections require pairing, this BLE connection does not, which gives it better opportunities to help.
The concept app has the potential to save more lives and keep distracted drivers from veering into a bike lane or onto a soft shoulder where fellow humans may be walking.

Want To Check In To Your Hotel Early? Good Luck. The Washington Post
Want To Check In To Your Hotel Early? Good Luck. – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/want-to-check-in-to-your-hotel-early-good-luck-the-washington-post/
It’s a travel math problem that doesn’t always work out: Your flight lands early in the morning, but the hotel check-in time isn’t until 3 or 4 p.m.
Sure, you can veg out in the lobby or leave your bags with the bell desk and explore. But if what you really want to do is shower and nap, you’ll have to pray to the early check-in gods or, in some cases, pay an extra fee for those additional hours.
And don’t forget that check-out is typically at 11 a.m., in case you had plans on your final day. Staying for just one day? Enjoy your 20 hours at the hotel.
The often-inconvenient times — which one operator called “an ancient hotel convention” — are set by hotels to make sure guests vacate their rooms with enough time to prepare them for the next round.
“It’s a function of housekeeping,” said Gary Vallen, a hospitality consultant and co-author of the textbook “Check-In Check-Out: Managing Hotel Operations.” “Getting a room checked out, going and stripping that room, cleaning the room, getting it brought back online, having an inspector from the housekeeping department check it … takes you a little while.”
For the average traveler, there are some ways to solve the issue of needing a hotel room before or after one is supposed to be available. It never hurts to ask if early check-in or late check-out is available for free. Some hotels might offer those benefits for a fee; hotel chain citizenM, for example, says check-in is guaranteed at 2 p.m. but available earlier for an extra charge at certain properties in Paris, Amsterdam and Taipei.
Sites that allow people to rent mere hours at a hotel — such as HotelsByDay or Dayuse.com — can also make up the gap. The Dayuse site also includes options for hotel bookings with an early arrival or late departure.
“If you look at urban business hotels now, a lot of them are trying to maximize revenue for rooms, so you have day-use rooms,” said Nicolas Graf, associate dean of the Tisch Center of Hospitality at New York University.
Hotels will typically also let guests leave their bags in a secure location and use a pool, gym or spa while they wait for a room. That’s a perk few vacation rentals can offer even as they set their own strict times for checking in or out.
“A well-run hotel is going to try to get you into your room as quickly as possible,” Vallen said.
Some of these hotels need to offer morning check-in Some travelers have wild travel schedules in which they need to lay their heads before 3 o’clock.
— Derrick E Jones (@deuceohsixx) September 15, 2022
For frequent travelers with elite status at hotel chains, checking in or out is likely to be a much more flexible endeavor.
“It’s difficult to have a flexible policy for everybody, but it’s appropriate to have a flexible policy for the select customer,” said Vallen, professor emeritus at Northern Arizona University’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. “You want to cultivate them and you want to cater to them as much as you possibly can.”
Ten years ago, Starwood Hotels and Resorts — which Marriott bought in 2016 — announced new benefits including 24-hour check-in for its “most prolific travelers.”
“Turning an ancient hotel convention on its head, Starwood is for the first time ever abolishing the industry’s long-standing 3:00 p.m. check-in time and giving its most frequent travelers control of their own arrival and departure time,” the company said. The “Your24” benefit let loyalty members who stayed at the company’s hotels for 75 or more nights every year choose their check-in time and check out at the same time on their departure day.
Marriott kept the benefit, but travelers must stay at its hotels 100 nights a year and spend $20,000 annually to qualify.
Some smaller hotel chains, typically boutique or luxury properties, also offer more flexibility.
Standard Hotels, with eight locations around the world, offers a “Standard Time” rate — which includes an additional fee — when rooms are available so guests can name their check-in and check-out times.
“We started Standard Time to cater to the ever-changing needs and schedules of our guests,” Standard International CEO Amber Asher said in an email to The Washington Post. “As a growing international brand, we want to take care of the business traveler flying in on the red eye who needs to freshen up before a meeting and the late night Boom Boom reveler who really needs to sleep in. Like everything that we do at The Standard, we challenge ourselves to think outside of hotel norms.”
The Peninsula Hotels, a Hong Kong-based luxury brand with 10 global properties, launched “Peninsula Time” across all its hotels in January 2021 after the feature started at its Beverly Hills location. Guests can choose a “fully flexible” arrival and departure time at no extra charge, though blackout dates apply.
“Guests inform the property ahead of time their approximate check-in and check-out time to ensure that their room or suite is available for their every need,” Gareth Roberts, group director of brand and operations support for the hotel company’s owners and operator, the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, said in an emailed statement. “By letting guests arrive earlier and stay longer, we hope to provide them with greater peace of mind — and an even more personalized experience.”
Me: Hi, would I be able to do an early check-in for X day?
Hotel: You have to check day of
**calls day of**
Me: I’d like to do early check in for 1pm
Hotel: Yes, there’s availability! It’ll be $25.
Me: $25?? NVM!!
Never heard of a fee for early check on (esp by 2 hours)
— Lauren DG (@LaurenDG_1) September 16, 2022
Graf said he doesn’t believe hotels have historically had the right technology to make “more informed decisions” about room availability.
But he said that in light of the pandemic and labor shortages, more operators are investing in scheduling systems that use better data.
“You have more productive processes that I think will potentially help solve part of the issue and potentially help people like you and me who want an early check-in,” Graf said.

BEIRUT (AP) — The International Monetary Fund on Wednesday said the Lebanese government’s slowness to implement desperately-needed reforms was exacerbating the country’s economic meltdown, even as officials met to discuss an urgent and long-delayed bailout.
The IMF statement followed a three-day visit to Beirut of the fund’s representatives to discuss with Lebanese officials the implementation of reforms drawn up under a staff-level agreement between the two sides in April.
“Despite the urgency for action to address Lebanon’s deep economic and social crisis, progress in implementing the reforms agreed under the April SLA remains very slow,” the IMF said.
The Lebanese government has implemented few of the IMF’s demands from the agreement, which lists five “key pillars” that should be implemented, before finalizing a bailout program. These include restructuring Lebanon’s ailing financial sector, implementing fiscal reforms, the restructuring of external public debt, and putting in place strong anti-corruption and anti-money laundering measures.
The Lebanese economy has been in a free fall since late 2019 in an economic meltdown described by the World Bank as one of the worst the world has witnessed since the 1850s. The crisis is rooted in decades of corruption and mismanagement by the political class that has been running the small nation since the end of the 1975-90 civil war.
“The Lebanese economy remains severely depressed against continued deadlock over much needed economic reforms and high uncertainty,” said the head of the IMF team Ernesto Ramirez Rigo.
The IMF said Lebanon’s GDP has contracted by over 40% since 2018, inflation remains in the triple digits, foreign reserves are dwindling, and the parallel exchange rate hit new lows this week reaching over 38,000 Lebanese pounds to the dollar.
“Amidst collapsing revenues and drastically suppressed spending, public sector institutions are failing, and basic services to the population have been drastically cut,” Ramirez Rigo said. “Unemployment and poverty are at historically high rates.”
The visit came a week after angry depositors stormed at least seven bank branches to get their trapped savings after local lenders imposed informal capital controls since the economic crisis began.
The IMF statement said the large losses in the banking sector need “to be recognized and addressed upfront, while respecting the hierarchy of claims. Small depositors must be fully protected.”
On Wednesday, the Association of Banks in Lebanon, said bank branches will not be opened as planned on Thursday but will remain closed “because of the dangers that employees and customers could be subjected to.” It said the banks will remain closed until they get assurances from the state and security agencies.
Earlier Wednesday, judicial authorities ordered the release on bail of two men who took part in a bank heist last week. The two men were ordered banned from leaving the country for six months.
On Tuesday, Lebanon’s caretaker Economic Minister Amin Salam said Lebanon hopes to adopt key reforms demanded by the IMF for a long-delayed but urgently needed bailout before the end of October if there is “political will”.
Salam added that the adoption of the reforms would provide Lebanon some $4 billion and unlock billions more from international governments and institutions. Lebanon’s central bank governor estimated that the country needs at least $12 billion in order to jumpstart its economy.

Adopt Healthy Lifestyle To Prevent Monkeypox: IDI – ANTARA English https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/adopt-healthy-lifestyle-to-prevent-monkeypox-idi-antara-english/
…we should not be stressed.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Improving clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) is important to curb the transmission of monkeypox in Indonesia, the monkeypox task force of the executive board of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) has said.
“(We appeal) to the community: please strengthen PHBS. We learned a lot from the COVID-19 outbreak that hygiene is very important, thus (please) use masks, especially in public areas,” head of the task force, Hanny Nilasari, said during a media briefing, which was followed online from here on Wednesday.
Furthermore, she stressed the importance of using masks in places where social distancing is difficult to implement, such as while taking public transportation.
People suffering from skin infection must wear clothing to cover the infected area so that they do not transmit the infection to other people or contaminate the surfaces they touch, she said.
“Thus, if you have an infection on the skin, you have to pay attention and cover your lesions (wounds). It (the lesion) must be taken care of,” she emphasized.
Related news: Healthy lifestyle to improve quality of life: Health Minister
The head of the task force also urged the community to consume an adequate and balanced diet.
Consuming healthy food and drinks is important to maintain excellent body condition and immunity so that people are not easily infected, she explained.
There are no specific foods that people exposed to monkeypox need to avoid, she said. Patients are advised to eat healthy and nutritious food that is high in minerals and vitamins.
However, Nilasari said that if the skin lesions feel itchy, patients must avoid foods that are high in protein, such as meat, egg whites, and fish, to prevent more serious complications.
“In the healing phase, usually it (the lesion) is itchy. At this stage, the patient must be careful. Usually, high protein foods will affect it (itchiness). If the patient is itchy and they eat (a meal with) high protein, they will tend to scratch (the lesion more),” she explained.
Scratching a lesion can create stretch marks, which could lead to a secondary infection, thus prolonging the healing phase, she added.
“Furthermore, (we must) also avoid things which can weaken our physical and psychological conditions. Thus, we have to prepare — we should not be stressed. If we are stressed, we can be exposed to various kinds of diseases more easily,” she said.
