8 Changes That Would Improve Tinykin – TheGamer https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/8-changes-that-would-improve-tinykin-thegamer/ Theirs a special mixture of enjoyment and stress reserved for those who have played Nintendo’s Pikmin. Not many games have attempted its gameplay, but it seems Splashteam are fans — creating Tinykin, a Pikmin-esque platformer. You navigate Milo, a button-sized spaceman, around the interior of an earthly house. No sooner are you getting your bearings than you’re introduced to your mission: Fix a strange machine. Luckily, the Tinykin can help – teensy organisms that have different aiding abilities depending on their look. Tinykin is a platformer full of vibrancy, mystery, and satisfying gameplay, but here are some things that could push the game to even greater heights. 8 Adding Enemies You’re probably going to notice the vast comparisons being drawn between this game and Pikmin throughout the read. That’s because it tries so brazenly to capture Pikmin on its own terms. Whilst it does a good job treading down a familiar Pikmin path, the absence of enemies in Tinykin is noticeable. With the exception of environmental dangers, no enemies will try to kill you or your little Tinykin buddies. This type of game would have excelled at combat scenarios, especially considering the variety of Tinykin. Having little to no threats at all, whilst being very accessible to younger players, diminishes the stakes dramatically – leading to one of the biggest things that should have been looked at… 7 It Could Have Been More Difficult Now, video games don’t need to be difficult to be fun. But having some form of tangible obstacle or introducing sections that make you think carefully does add to an experience. Tinykin leans too far on being too easy, which is polarizing to its Pikmin love-lettering. If Milo falls from a great height or touches water, they die, but are instantly recovered without any consequence. Those looking for even a slither of a challenge in Tinykin will be disappointed in its sacrifice of difficulty in order to appeal to a wider audience. Just making the world a little more hostile would have solved this issue and combated an otherwise shallow area of the game. 6 Make Tinykin Vulnerable Those who have played Pikmin need no reminder of how heart-crushing it is when you let one die. Those games require careful management and maneuvering for your little army to survive. Here, the Tinykin are invincible and will never be in any danger. You never actually control them outright, and they always follow you loyally – traversing great distances like magic to be right by your side. Again, removing the mortality of the Tinykin removes any form of challenge. If the Tinykin had to look to Milo for safety a bit more, this would improve the bond between them, adding value to the times when you need to use them. 5 The Expedition Timer Could Have Played More Of A Role Whenever you pause the game, you’ll notice an expedition timer counting up. Even pausing doesn’t stop this timer, and it counts the overall time you’ve spent in the game. This clock doesn’t affect anything in the game, and begs the question of why is it there. Sure, the likes of speedrunners could use it as a nifty in-game timer, but it would have been cool to see it make an in-world difference. The original Pikmin gave you thirty in-game days to complete it, for a narrative purpose. Tinykin’s timer just looks out of place, and needs the same level of narrative hook to warrant its inclusion. 4 Variety In The Side Ventures Outside the main objectives of each area, you can come across insect characters who have side missions. These range from returning toy animals to a toy zoo to navigating deadly pipes to retrieve a ring. Whilst these side quests are novel distractions, they don’t quite ever feel necessary. The aforementioned ring retrieval mission is recycled in every area, and all the side ventures equate to feeling a bit samey – gifting you a collectible for completing them. However, if they meant something a bit more, or perhaps if there were more of them to seek out, it could have enriched the overall experience. 3 Even More Unique Environments Traversing a house as a tiny entity is rarely boring. The same can be said for Tinykin, with each section of the game belonging to a different room in the house; themed in an interesting way. It’s a tonne of fun to navigate and explore, but a lot of the areas recycle the same platforming assets. You’ll grow used to climbing drawers, plants, and shelves, which are staples of any household, but no less repetitive. If the ways in which you traversed this environment were spiced with variety, it could have made every section unique. A game that does this exceedingly well is It Takes Two. 2 Upgrades To The Binocular Goggles One of the gadgets that Milo can use to help get his bearings is the binocular goggles. Pulling these from your inventory allows you to scope out the level and seek out glowing interactives. Collectible upgrades for these would have been a major boon. For example, the binoculars could gain the ability to show hints of where any remaining collectible pollen is hiding. There’s an awful lot of pollen to collect in the game that completionists will hone in on, and it works the same way as music note collecting in Banjo-Kazooie games. When you’re one or two pollen short, there’s no discernible way to know where to look. Hence why a binocular upgrade could have improved this. 1 Less Confusing Ending One of the best things about Tinykin is its sense of mystery. There’s a bigger picture happening under the surface, and a lot of storytelling is baked into environmental detail. When it comes to the ending, the story is wrapped up just as mysteriously, but still leaves many questions. What doesn’t help is how much information is packed into the conclusion. Without giving too much away, you’re introduced to a character the game has been building up, and who also has been undergoing a vague quest that is never quite explained. Perhaps this is lining up a sequel or DLC, which only time will answer. NEXT: The Most Relaxing Platformers

Iran To Launch A Pilot For Its “Crypto-Rial” On Thursday – Kitco NEWS https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/iran-to-launch-a-pilot-for-its-crypto-rial-on-thursday-kitco-news/ Editor’s Note: With so much market volatility, stay on top of daily news! (Kitco News) – Iran’s Chamber of Commerce has reported that the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) plans to launch a pilot program for its central bank digital currency (CBDC), the crypto-rial, beginning on Thursday.  The crypto-rial is designed to leverage blockchain technology in order to transform Iranian Rial banknotes into a “programmable entity” that can more easily be transacted across borders and around the world.  According to CBI Governor Ali Salehabadi, “The bank has in place the infrastructure and rules for the crypto-rial. The cryptocurrency is planned as a new type of national currency, like banknotes and coins, but fully digital.” On top of increasing usability, one of the main features of the crypto-rial touted by the CBI is its high level of security.  “Crypto-rial has been designed in a way that it is easy to track and even if the data on the smartphones are hacked, the crypto-rial can be tracked,” the announcement from Iran’s Chamber of Commerce said.  The CBI anticipates that the crypto rail will help improve financial inclusion in the country and serve as a tool to help the economy compete with other stable currencies globally. This development in Iran is the latest to show the country’s increasing interest in blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. In early 2022, Iran’s government approved the settling of cross-border payments using cryptocurrency through the Central Bank’s crypto platform. On Aug. 9, the first foreign trade deal of import goods worth $10 million was settled using cryptocurrency.  Russia to let the private sector explore crypto payments On Monday, Russia’s head of the Finance Ministry’s Financial Policy Department Ivan Chebeskov discussed the country’s draft bill on digital currencies, saying that it should create a framework for settlements, while the details – such as the list of currencies used and the list of counterparty countries – will be determined in practice. “The Ministry of Finance has developed a bill on digital currencies, it is comprehensive and includes many things,” Chebeskov said. “But in terms of payments, we are rather creating a mechanism for business than building this architecture completely, because it is not completely clear how it should be regulated, so we give businesses the opportunity with this bill to pay with cryptocurrency, but in terms of what cryptocurrencies will be used, how to negotiate with counterparties, with which countries it will operate – all this we are leaving to entrepreneurs.” Chebeskov suggested that entrepreneurs will collectively be able to figure out the best way for the system to work in a more efficient manner than the authorities would be able to do.  “And if this needs to be raised to some intergovernmental level, then of course we will also get involved and promote it somehow as part of international cooperation. But rather, since there are already requests from the business, we expect that this will be work that business has either already done or will do in the future,” the official said. In the long run, Russia’s Ministry of Finance sees a variety of applicable use cases for cryptocurrencies beyond their use in foreign trade transactions. “The current restrictions are a driver for us to use these technologies, including as a new mechanism for international payments. But in my opinion, this is only a part of all the opportunities that both digital financial assets and digital currencies can provide,” Chebeskov said. Costume Guidelines For Mickeys No-So-Scary Halloween Party The DIS
Costume Guidelines For Mickey’s No-So-Scary Halloween Party – The DIS https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/costume-guidelines-for-mickeys-no-so-scary-halloween-party-the-dis/ If your dream is to wear your favorite character costume to Disney Parks, usually the answer would be a flat-out no! We all know the rules when it comes to dressing up for the average Disney day; if you are 14 or older, costumes are a no-go. In recent years, Disney Bounding has been pushing the boundaries when it comes to what we can wear to the parks that aren’t a direct representation of the character’s outfit, i.e., a Cinderella dress, and more an outfit that is inspired by the character of their storyline; like a blue fit and flare dress with a fancy bun. Still, for many of us, that moment to live vicariously through the appearance of your favorite character in the parks remains unfulfilled. Unless you are heading to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom. Photo by Aiden Craver on Unsplash Even though costumes are allowed for this after-hours event, there are still a few guidelines you need to be aware of. Let’s go through them together to make sure none of us end up on the wrong side of Disney security. Guests 13 and Under For younger guests, the options are relatively limitless, with the only requirement being that all costumes and masks must allow for ‘unobstructed peripheral vision’ without exception and that the eyes can be fully seen through the openings. In a separate piece of advice, keep practicality in mind when dressing up your little ones. Stick with layers so they don’t overheat, and leave the princess heels and uncomfortable shoes at home unless you want to carry them all night long. Photo by Haley Phelps on Unsplash Guests 14 and Over For those fourteen and over, limitations are a little more detailed but still more flexible than on an average day in the park. Here are a few restrictions you need to keep in mind: While dressed as your favorite character, you must never pose (with guests) or give autographs at any time. The usual family-friendly rules apply where your costume must be appropriate for the environment and not be anything objectionable. Even if your costume would look more authentic with it, no weapons or weapon adjacent lookalike accessories are allowed. Your costume must not have anything sharp or pointy that could injure another guest or, let’s face it, yourself. Additional security screening might be required if your costume includes elaborate layers. The concern there is that you might have something uncool concealed underneath. Costumes are not allowed to drag on the ground, so be sure to hem those princess dresses for your safety and convenience when venturing around the park. No princess wants to trip over their own dress. Adding a cape to your outfit? Keep it short, no longer than the waist. You can add costume headwear, like wigs, hats, accessories, etc., as long as your face isn’t covered.  Adults and Teens are not allowed to wear masks of any kind. Get creative with face paint or makeup. Photo by Michael Marais on Unsplash If you aren’t sure if part of your costume will be acceptable, make sure you have a backup plan. Guests will be allowed to modify their costumes if deemed to be inappropriate, which means making sure that questionable accessory or item is removable, just in case. Basically, don’t show up looking like this guy above and expect to make it through the gates. Be prepared to lose the mask, hood, and weapon to make it in. What will you be wearing to the 2022 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party? Up To 40% Of GP Appointments Taken Up By Mental Health Issues – Midlothian View https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/up-to-40-of-gp-appointments-taken-up-by-mental-health-issues-midlothian-view/ Wednesday September 21st 2022 Dalkeith Medical Centre. Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Marie Sharp Four out of ten patients visiting their GP are there because of mental health issues, Midlothian councillors were told this week. Nick Clater, head of adult services at Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership, said many people were seeking help for depression and distress as he described the impact on GP time as “significant”. Speaking to the council’s performance review and scrutiny committee, Mr Clater said every GP practice in Midlothian now has a mental health nurse working in them to ease the burden. He told the committee: “GPs estimate that up to 40% of appointments that people have are related to mental health issues, often what we would class to be lower level mental health distress and depressions and therefore if we have nurses on site that can free up GP time quite significantly.” The figure was backed up by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Scotland who said anecdotal feedback from members also suggested the number of mental health related cases had increased since the pandemic. Dr Catriona Morton, from RCGP Scotland, said: “Traditionally it was estimated that a third of those seeing their GP had a mental health component to their illness, however we do not have a reliable recent estimate as there is limited meaningful general practice workload data in Scotland. “Higher anecdotal figures are consistent with what we hear from our members, as many GPs report higher numbers of mental health related consultations following the pandemic and the associated stresses, isolation and loneliness. “These are powerful factors capable of influencing individual’s mental health in a detrimental way.” Dr Morton said national data showed mental health disorders were rising along with deaths from alcohol and drug-related illnesses. She said: “GPs remain very committed to this work, but as a College we are profoundly concerned by the combination of increasing workforce shortages and rising workload. “This has led to GPs finding it more difficult to provide the time, space and regular review so needed by this group of patients. “It is crucial that patients can get support for their mental health as quickly and easily as possible. “RCGP Scotland has been calling on the Scottish Government to ensure a mental health clinician is available in every general practice team, but we know that this has largely not happened, despite the aspirations of the new GP contract.” Mr Clater said Midlothian has invested strongly in its primary care mental health team, which, since 2019, has been developed, and rolled out to all 12 GP practices in the county, offering direct access to mental health triage, assessment and brief intervention for people aged 18-65. However a report on adult services in the county warned that the number of mental health issues in Midlothian was a concern. Identifying the risk of the rising cases on adults services, it said: “Many mental health problems are preventable, and almost all are treatable, so people can either fully recover or manage their conditions successfully and live fulfilling healthy lives as far as possible. “The incidence of mental health issues in Midlothian, while similar to the rest of Scotland, is a concern. “Living in poverty increases the likelihood of mental health problems but also mental health problems can lead to greater social exclusion and higher levels of poverty. “People who have life-long mental illness are likely to die 15-20 years prematurely because of physical ill health.” Tweet Share on Facebook Support Midlothian View from as little as £1. A Stock Exchange For Sports Betting: Sporttrade Debuts In New Jersey Gaming Today
A Stock Exchange For Sports Betting: Sporttrade Debuts In New Jersey Gaming Today
A Stock Exchange For Sports Betting: Sporttrade Debuts In New Jersey – Gaming Today https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/a-stock-exchange-for-sports-betting-sporttrade-debuts-in-new-jersey-gaming-today/ On September 15, Sporttrade launched its sports trading platform in New Jersey. It sells itself as a user-friendly stock exchange for sports, similar to what Robin Hood was for ordinary people interested in investing. “The whole value of our business is trying to show that customers not only can do something that they can’t do on any platform besides Sporttrade but that they want to do.” Sporttrade CEO Alex Kane said.  On Sporttrade, bettors can buy and sell trades on sports wagers priced between one cent and $99. Winning bets are paid $100. Losing bets win nothing. However, Sporttrade sets itself apart with its focus on in-game markets. When a game starts, bettors can take advantage of each wager’s price movements. These trades can be especially volatile on teams poised to make dramatic and unexpected late-game comebacks.    “Someone did that [bought the Cardinals] at $2.50, but then sold it when it went down to two cents before it went back up,” Kane said. “So we didn’t have quite the success story there of someone riding it out to glory.”  Trading sports is a two-way street. It can result in forfeited wins or successful hedges. It also puts users in control of how long they want to hold onto their bets and how they want to manage their bets in-game.  Sporttrade Bonus and Pricing Structure Sporttrade offers a unique approach to sports betting, and its reflected in its approach to bonuses and pricing. Currently, Sporttrade does not offer a welcome bonus. However, its pricing can be better than traditional sportsbooks.  Kane is cautious about welcome bonuses. While Sporttrade plans to offer welcome bonuses, they won’t be the extravagant $1,000 welcome bonuses offered by books like DraftKings and FanDuel.  “I think too many times, you see these huge deposit bonuses, and what you’ve gained in a lot of customers in great top-of-funnel and bottom funnel metrics, you’ve lost in completely blinding yourself to whether you have product-market fit,” Kane said.  Competitive Odds Over Welcome Bonuses Sporttrade makes up for its lack of bonuses with pricing that can outdo traditional sportsbooks. For example, one Sporttrade user bought the Atlanta Falcons at 50 cents and sold them at $9.50 for a $9 per contract. That $9 profit is the equivalent of winning a bet with +1800 odds at a traditional sportsbook.  However, the Falcons lost on Sunday. At a traditional sportsbook, bettors would lose their bets. But at Sporttrade, users can take advantage of price movements from strong moments in the game that give Falcons traders hope. Those inflated hopes created inflated prices that make good sell prices before the game ends.  If the Falcons had won, that user would’ve won $100 for a contract he entered into for 50 cents — $99.50 in profit. That would have been the equivalent of winning a bet with 199/1 odds. Even competitive market-making books like Circa wouldn’t have offered odds approaching +20000 on a moneyline.  While Sporttrade’s pricing partly depends on users’ trading strategies and risk tolerances, it offers competitive odds in a saturated sports betting market.  How Sporttrade Works like a Stock Exchange Sporttrade users can buy and sell their contracts on different wagers because of agreements Sporttrade has made with super users called market makers. Market makers are large groups that have agreed to buy trades on Sporttrade. Since there’s always someone buying contracts, bettors can always buy and sell the contracts they choose. (This is what high liquidity means.) Market makers play a critical role on financial exchanges, only with much higher stakes.  “If the market makers on NASDAQ pulled out [of the market] … 401k’s would collapse,” Kane said. “Now this isn’t as life or death for sports betting, but they [NASDAQ] know it’s [liquidity] critical for engagement.”  Over time, the hope is that Sporttrade’s user base will grow large enough that these market makers won’t be the ones allowing trades to happen. With enough users, there will always be someone to buy what someone else is selling. Trades will be able to happen in real time. What’s Next for Sporttrade? Behind the scenes, Sporttrade’s market makers are treating their purchases on Sporttrade as an investment. If Sporttrade becomes liquid without large market makers, then those market makers can use Sporttrade as another exchange to make money on. Large companies could trade hundreds of thousands of contracts simultaneously, making large profits at scale.  Sporttrade and its market makers share the long-term goal of a healthy and liquid sports betting exchange. New Jersey will be a telling test ground for the country’s first stock exchange for sports.

U.S. Home Sales Post Seventh Straight Monthly Decline In August – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-home-sales-post-seventh-straight-monthly-decline-in-august-reuters/ Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Existing home sales fall 0.4% in August Median house price increases 7.7% from year ago Housing supply at 1.28 million, unchanged from year ago WASHINGTON, Sept 21 (Reuters) – U.S. existing home sales dropped for the seventh straight month in August as affordability deteriorated further amid surging mortgage rates and stubbornly high house prices, though the pace of decline moderated from prior months. The Federal Reserve’s aggressive monetary policy tightening, marked by oversized interest rate increases, has significantly weakened the housing market. In contrast, other sectors of the economy, like the labor market, have shown incredible resilience despite the Fed’s attempts to cool demand. “High prices and Fed rate hikes will likely remain constraints for sales going forward,” said Rubeela Farooqi, chief U.S. economist at High Frequency Economics in White Plains, New York. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Existing home sales slipped 0.4% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.80 million units last month, the National Association of Realtors said on Wednesday. Discounting the plunge during the spring of 2020 when the economy was reeling from the first wave of COVID-19, this was the lowest sales level since November 2015. Sales rose in the Northeast and West, but were unchanged in the densely populated South. They fell in the Midwest, which is generally considered a more affordable housing region. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast sales decreasing to a rate of 4.70 million units. The smaller-than-expected decline was likely the result of contracts signed in July, when mortgage rates retreated after sharp increases. While the NAR hoped that sales would stabilize around current levels, that is unlikely as mortgage rates are likely to push higher. Reuters Graphics Carpenters work on building new townhomes that are still under construction while building material supplies are in high demand in Tampa, Florida, U.S., May 5, 2021. REUTERS/Octavio Jones The Fed is expected to raise its policy rate by 75 basis points later on Wednesday for the third time in as many policy meetings. Since March, the U.S. central bank has lifted that rate from near zero to its current range of 2.25% to 2.50%. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate averaged 6.02% last week, from 5.89% in the prior week, breaking above 6% for the first time since November 2008, according to data from mortgage finance agency Freddie Mac. Though house price growth has slowed as demand weakened, tight supply is keeping prices elevated. The median existing house price increased 7.7% from a year earlier to $389,500 in August. House prices typically slow in July and August. They surged to a record high of $413,800 in June. There were 1.28 million previously owned homes on the market, unchanged from a year ago. At August’s sales pace, it would take 3.2 months to exhaust the current inventory of existing homes, up from 2.6 months a year ago. A five-to-seven-month supply is viewed as a healthy balance between supply and demand. The improvement is mostly because sales are weakening. Properties typically remained on the market for 16 days, up from 14 days in July, but down from 17 days last August. Before the pandemic 30 days on the market was the norm. Eighty-one percent of homes sold were on the market for less than a month. First-time buyers accounted for 29% of purchases, unchanged from July and a year ago. All-cash sales made up 24% of transactions, up from 22% from a year ago. Prior to 2020, cash sales accounted for only 20% of transactions. The NAR attributed the higher cash sales share to people needing loans to buy a home dropping out of the market. Empowering Cambridge Youth Through Data Activism | MIT News | Massachusetts Institute Of Technology – MIT News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/empowering-cambridge-youth-through-data-activism-mit-news-massachusetts-institute-of-technology-mit-news/ For over 40 years, the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP, or the Mayor’s Program) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been providing teenagers with their first work experience, but 2022 brought a new offering. Collaborating with MIT’s Personal Robots research group (PRG) and Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education (RAISE) this summer, MSYEP created a STEAM-focused learning site at the Institute. Eleven students joined the program to learn coding and programming skills through the lens of “Data Activism.” MSYEP’s partnership with MIT provides an opportunity for Cambridge high schoolers to gain exposure to more pathways for their future careers and education. The Mayor’s Program aims to respect students’ time and show the value of their work, so participants are compensated with an hourly wage as they learn workforce skills at MSYEP worksites. In conjunction with two ongoing research studies at MIT, PRG and RAISE developed the six-week Data Activism curriculum to equip students with critical-thinking skills so they feel prepared to utilize data science to challenge social injustice and empower their community. Rohan Kundargi, K-12 Community Outreach Administrator for MIT Office of Government and Community Relations (OGCR), says, “I see this as a model for a new type of partnership between MIT and Cambridge MSYEP. Specifically, an MIT research project that involves students from Cambridge getting paid to learn, research, and develop their own skills!” Cross-Cambridge collaboration Cambridge’s Office of Workforce Development initially contacted MIT OGCR about hosting a potential MSYEP worksite that taught Cambridge teens how to code. When Kundargi reached out to MIT pK-12 collaborators, MIT PRG’s graduate research assistant Raechel Walker proposed the Data Activism curriculum. Walker defines “data activism” as utilizing data, computing, and art to analyze how power operates in the world, challenge power, and empathize with people who are oppressed. Walker says, “I wanted students to feel empowered to incorporate their own expertise, talents, and interests into every activity. In order for students to fully embrace their academic abilities, they must remain comfortable with bringing their full selves into data activism.” As Kundargi and Walker recruited students for the Data Activism learning site, they wanted to make sure the cohort of students — the majority of whom are individuals of color — felt represented at MIT and felt they had the agency for their voice to be heard. “The pioneers in this field are people who look like them,” Walker says, speaking of well-known data activists Timnit Gebru, Rediet Abebe, and Joy Buolamwini. When the program began this summer, some of the students were not aware of the ways data science and artificial intelligence exacerbate systemic oppression in society, or some of the tools currently being used to mitigate those societal harms. As a result, Walker says, the students wanted to learn more about discriminatory design in every aspect of life. They were also interested in creating responsible machine learning algorithms and AI fairness metrics. A different side of STEAM The development and execution of the Data Activism curriculum contributed to Walker’s and postdoc Xiaoxue Du’s respective research at PRG. Walker is studying AI education, specifically creating and teaching data activism curricula for minoritized communities. Du’s research explores processes, assessments, and curriculum design that prepares educators to use, adapt, and integrate AI literacy curricula. Additionally, her research targets how to leverage more opportunities for students with diverse learning needs. The Data Activism curriculum utilizes a “libertatory computing” framework, a term Walker coined in her position paper with Professor Cynthia Breazeal, director of MIT RAISE, dean for digital learning, and head of PRG, and Eman Sherif, a then-undergraduate researcher from University of California at San Diego, titled “Liberty Computing for African American Students.” This framework ensures that students, especially minoritized students, acquire a sound racial identity, critical consciousness, collective obligation, liberation centered academic/achievement identity, as well as the activism skills to use computing to transform a multi-layered system of barriers in which racism persists. Walker says, “We encouraged students to demonstrate competency in every pillar because all of the pillars are interconnected and build upon each other.” Walker developed a series of interactive coding and project-based activities that focused on understanding systemic racism, utilizing data science to analyze systemic oppression, data drawing, responsible machine learning, how racism can be embedded into AI, and different AI fairness metrics. This was the students’ first time learning how to create data visualizations using the programming language Python and the data analysis tool Pandas. In one project meant to examine how different systems of oppression can affect different aspects of students’ own identities, students created datasets with data from their respective intersectional identities. Another activity highlighted African American achievements, where students analyzed two datasets about African American scientists, activists, artists, scholars, and athletes. Using the data visualizations, students then created zines about the African Americans who inspired them. RAISE hired Olivia Dias, Sophia Brady, Lina Henriquez, and Zeynep Yalcin through the MIT Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) and PRG hired freelancer Matt Taylor to work with Walker on developing the curriculum and designing interdisciplinary experience projects. Walker and the four undergraduate researchers constructed an intersectional data analysis activity about different examples of systemic oppression. PRG also hired three high school students to test activities and offer insights about making the curriculum engaging for program participants. Throughout the program, the Data Activism team taught students in small groups, continually asked students how to improve each activity, and structured each lesson based on the students’ interests. Walker says Dias, Brady, Henriquez, and Yalcin were invaluable to cultivating a supportive classroom environment and helping students complete their projects. Student Nina says, “It’s opened my eyes to a different side of STEM. I didn’t know what ‘data’ meant before this program, or how intersectionality can affect AI and data.” Before MSYEP, Nina took Intro to Computer Science and AP Computer Science, but she has been coding since Girls Who Code first sparked her interest in middle school. “The community was really nice. I could talk with other girls. I saw there needs to be more women in STEM, especially in coding.” Now she’s interested in applying to colleges with strong computer science programs so she can pursue a coding-related career. From MYSEP to the mayor’s office Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui visited the Data Activism learning site on Aug. 9, accompanied by Breazeal. A graduate of MSYEP herself, Siddiqui says, “Through hands-on learning through computer programming, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School students have the unique opportunity to see themselves as data scientists. Students were able learn ways to combat discrimination that occurs through artificial intelligence.” In an Instagram post, Siddiqui also said, “I had a blast visiting the students and learning about their projects.” Students worked on an activity that asked them to envision how data science might be used to support marginalized communities. They transformed their answers into block-printed T-shirt designs, carving pictures of their hopes into rubber block stamps. Some students focused on the importance of data privacy, like Jacob T., who drew a birdcage to represent data stored and locked away by third party apps. He says, “I want to open that cage and restore my data to myself and see what can be done with it.” Many students wanted to see more representation in both the media they consume and across various professional fields. Nina talked about the importance of representation in media and how that could contribute to greater representation in the tech industry, while Kiki talked about encouraging more women to pursue STEM fields. Jesmin said, “I wanted to show that data science is accessible to everyone, no matter their origin or language you speak. I wrote ‘hello’ in Bangla, Arabic, and English, because I speak all three languages and they all resonate with me.” “Overall, I hope the students continue to use their data activism skills to re-envision a society that supports marginalized groups,” says Walker. “Moreover, I hope they are empowered to become data scientists and understand how their race can be a positive part of their identity.”

Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll Wins Minor League Player Of The Year USA TODAY
Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll Wins Minor League Player Of The Year USA TODAY
Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll Wins Minor League Player Of The Year – USA TODAY https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/diamondbacks-corbin-carroll-wins-minor-league-player-of-the-year-usa-today/ PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll had played only 49 games in the minor leagues before the start of the season.  He didn’t play at all in 2020 with COVID wiping out the minor league season.  He played just seven games in 2021 before shoulder surgery ended his season.  Now, in the final days of spring training in what would be his first full professional season, the Diamondbacks called him into the office – as they do with all of their young players – and asked him to identify his goals for the season.  “You typically get generic answers,’’ Diamondbacks farm director Josh Barfield says, “like, I want to get to this level, hit .300, or whatever.’ “Well, he pulls out a notebook. We’re all sitting there, and he goes through it, step by step, and walks us through the goals for the year. … It was pretty unique.” MLB PLAYOFF PICTURE: What the postseason field looks like today NEWSLETTER: Get the latest sports news straight to your inbox Just five months and three stops later, with a slight derailment when he tested positive for COVID, Carroll found himself in the big leagues in the final days of August after tearing up Class AA Amarillo and Triple-A Reno.  So, safe to say that Carroll, 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, reached all of his goals, achieving everything he could have possibly envisioned?  “I can’t really say it exceeded my expectations,’’ says Carroll, the 16th player selected in the 2019 draft, “because these are the goals I set for myself. I want to be the one who holds myself to a higher standard than anyone else. I’m just happy to be where I am today.’’  That’s Carroll, 22, relentless in his pursuit of greatness.  Certainly, no one was better in all of the minor leagues this season, with Carroll being named the 2022 USA TODAY Minor League Player of the Year.  “My initial reaction to the honor is that it’s a testament to myself and my support system,” Carroll says, “and just all of the people that helped me get to this point. It’s really more about them than it is me.  “Obviously, there were a lot of great performances this year, a lot of great players, even in our organization. But without all of the great resources I have, no matter how hard I worked, I don’t think I would be in the same position.’’  Carroll hit .307 with 24 homers, 62 RBI and 31 stolen bases, including a .425 on-base percentage and .611 slugging percentage in 93 games. “I’ve been all over the country scouting the minors this year,’’ one veteran National League scout says, “and he’s the best player I’ve seen. And it wasn’t really close. I love watching that kid.’’  The Diamondbacks have so much faith and belief in Carroll that although they brought him up to the big leagues, they’re still not playing him every day. The reason? They want to preserve his rookie status, and won’t let him eclipse 130 at-bats, making him eligible for the 2023 Rookie of the Year award.  You see, by assuring that Carroll is still rookie-eligible in 2023, they can put him on their opening-day roster, and if he wins the Rookie of the Year award, they will receive an extra draft pick in 2024.  “Honestly, I really appreciate that,’’ Carroll says. “It’s an honor for the front office and this organization to view me that way. They’re saying, ‘Hey, this guy might have a chance to earn us a draft pick next year.’ That would mean a lot to me to get to earn that pick.’’  There’s also a substantial financial benefit for Carroll. He’ll earn a $750,000 bonus for winning Rookie of the Year and $500,000 by finishing second.  “I didn’t even know that,’’ he says. “I just love playing baseball. That’s what I work so hard and put in the discipline I do. I stay true to myself because I love the game so much.’’  This is a guy who underwent season-ending shoulder surgery after his shoulder rotated awkwardly after homering early in 2021. He could have gone home, rehabbed his shoulder and returned in 2022. Instead, he stuck around, and went to every single D-backs’ home game, sitting in the scouts section with quality control coach Jeff Gardner, picking his brain.  “He’s just very driven, motivated,’’ Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen says. “You saw him last year scouting games when he was hurt. He was here every day. That speaks to how he thinks about the game.’’  Carroll will tell you now that he was scared when he underwent the surgery. His development was not only going to be stymied, but he had no idea how the shoulder surgery would impact his future.  “Yeah, there were doubts,’’ he softly says. “I think there’s a level of fear with that kind of injury. You’ve got to treat that rehab like your life depends on it. It’s your livelihood.  “If you don’t take that seriously, there is a chance you don’t come back at the level you want. My approach was not to come back the same player, but to come back better.’’  The D-backs challenged him to improve his arm during his rehab, saying that perhaps was the only flaw in his game. When he returned this spring, he answered all questions, becoming even a better, all-around player with a strong outfield arm.  “A week into the season you could tell that he was completely healthy, probably even better than before,’’ Barfield said. “He’s just that kind of kid. Obviously, he’s very talented, but few are wired the way he is. …  “He’s singularly focused on becoming a great baseball player.’’  Carroll says his moment of clarity arrived during a 48-hour period during Mother’s Day weekend. He was playing for the Amarillo Sod Poodles against the Midland Rockhounds, batting leadoff and playing center field.  He went 2-for-4 with two homers, four RBI and three runs on May 7.  He went 2-for-5 with two more homers a day later.  Carroll took off from there and never looked back, promoted to Triple-A on July 10 and to the majors on Aug. 29.  “That stretch of two days was one of those times everything came natural,’’ Carroll says. “I felt like I was totally in flow, going out there and not having to think, just going out and playing baseball. That’s the way I like to play. I was fully being encompassed in that.’’  Carroll, who is hitting .278 with three homers, nine RBI and an .858 OPS in 54 at-bats with the D-backs, plans to go back home to Seattle after the season. He’ll reflect on his year and immediately start preparing for 2023. He typically lost 10 to 15 pounds during the baseball season in previous years, but working with a nutritionist and maintaining a new diet, he lost just two pounds this year. He feels as strong now as he did in April, despite never having played this many games in his life.  “I’m pretty routine-oriented,’’ he says, “so once I find something that works for me, I stick to it.’’  The routine includes living again with his parents and 17-year-old sister during the offseason. He may be making the pro-rated $700,000 minimum salary this year, but there are no plans to buy a home, or even rent an apartment.  “We’ll see about the future,’’ Carroll says, “but not now. I’m really close to my family. So, they may to give me the boot.’’  Sometime this winter, Carroll plans to once again grab a notebook and jot down his goals for 2023. He has been doing this since high school and won’t stop now. He keeps the goals relatively private, sharing them only with coaches or front-office officials when asked.  “Sharing them loses a little bit of power,’’ Carroll says, “I think there’s a power to having them to yourself and chasing it for something internal.  “My goals for next year … Nothing too crazy, just some specific stuff that I wanted to stay true to myself, stay true to my values, do right by other people, and make sure I’m chasing the right things.’’  You won’t find goals that include a .300 batting average, 25 homers, 30 stolen bases, or anything like that. Instead, they are designed to help him become a better player. “He has lofty goals, not predicated on results,’’ Barfield says, “but to continue to grow and develop and believe. He’s already showing the player he can be. There’s nothing he can’t do on a baseball field.  “He has a goal of wanting to be one of the best players in the game in the next three to four years.’’  Any doubts he’ll achieve it?  “Knowing the kid, knowing his makeup,’’ Barfield says, “none.  “None whatsoever.’’  The voting The USA TODAY Minor League Player of the Year was selected through voting on a pool of finalists by writers and editors plus a fan poll conducted on Twitter. Facebook Beware: The Metaverse Is Flat The Washington Post
Facebook Beware: The Metaverse Is Flat The Washington Post
Facebook, Beware: The Metaverse Is Flat – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/facebook-beware-the-metaverse-is-flat-the-washington-post-2/ In a few weeks’ time, Mark Zuckerberg will announce a new virtual reality headset from Meta Platforms Inc. Embarrassingly, we already know what it will look like. A video of the purported device has been doing the rounds online after someone found one in a hotel room. Yet none of that should matter because whizzy VR headsets are becoming too much of a distraction, and aren’t that integral to the early growth of the so-called metaverse, a 3D version of the internet that many see as its next chapter. It turns out flat screens are doing the job just fine.  While Facebook has sold about 14 million VR headsets to date, millions more have visited the metaverse through regular 2D screens like the one you’re looking at right now, via apps like Roblox and Epic Games Inc.’s Fortnite. The trend is likely to continue for several years yet as VR headsets take time to slim down in size and price. That puts Zuckerberg in an awkward position. He wants you to buy Meta’s headset, known as the Quest, because that gives him greater control over whatever metaverse marketplace he builds down the line. And the reason is clear: For years he’s been beholden to the rules of app gatekeepers Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Apple Inc., paying their fees and following edicts such as the App Tracking Transparency prompt that will knock about $14 billion off Facebook’s ad sales this year. It would be a painful, almost unthinkable step for Facebook to make its metaverse platform Horizon Worlds available on app stores. But perhaps there is another way. Facebook could allow people to visit the platform via a simple browser. Google’s Stadia uses a service called cloud-streaming that lets people play large video games via Chrome. It’s an expensive process, requiring powerful servers, but it could help Facebook circumvent Apple and Google while drumming up a flood of curious new users. Meta’s technology chief Andrew Bosworth hinted on Twitter earlier this year that a web-based version was in the cards, but a company spokeswoman declined to provide further details. “It’d be a 3D version of Facebook that looks like a game, but you’d browse it from your desktop,” said Sam Huber, CEO of metaverse property startup LandVault. “It could become the most popular game in the world.” Even modest popularity would reassure investors who are likely to balk at how slowly the company’s headset customers are growing: A mere 300,000 people have visited Horizon Worlds since it launched last October. You can only access the platform via a Quest 2 headset. “Facebook seems to be operating from a sunk cost fallacy,” said Wagner James Au, an author and blogger who has covered the metaverse for more than a decade. “There’s no data to support VR headsets as being the mass market device.”   In fact, flat versions of the metaverse are far more popular than 3D ones. About three-quarters of Roblox’s 52 million daily visitors are on a phone, while the vast majority of people using Microsoft Corp.’s Minecraft or Fortnite are on a desktop computer or mobile. Several metaverse companies have also pivoted to flat. Decentraland, for instance, a virtual world for trading crypto assets, was marketed as a “virtual reality platform” when it launched its initial coin offering in 2017. Yet all its users have since been visiting via a desktop or browser, the company says. VRChat, a platform for socializing with other avatars, was first released as an app for Oculus headsets in 2014. Three years later it produced a desktop version, and was able to attract millions more users. “The issue is price,” said Artur Sychov, the founder of metaverse startup Somnium Space, whose users mostly visit on a browser. Meta’s Quest 2 costs about $400, while other rival headsets can exceed $800. Going into a virtual world on a screen is actually a decent proxy for “real” VR and certainly more engaging than a regular video call, as I discovered when Sychov took me on a tour of the Somnium universe during our Zoom meeting. Since I wasn’t technically with him as an avatar, Sychov held a virtual tablet in front of him with a “camera” that let me follow his movements around the space. Watching him point to art in a virtual gallery and moving through colorful forests, even on my laptop screen, was enough to help me imagine myself being there. Until now, Meta’s marketing has focused on the immersive benefits of VR headsets, creating the feeling that you’re really with work colleagues or inside a fitness class. But that misses the true selling point of the metaverse — incentives to create new experiences — and you don’t need a VR headset for that. To lure more people into its virtual platforms, Meta needs to focus less on building cutting-edge headsets, and more on emulating metaverse pioneers like Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft. Almost a quarter of Roblox’s own users have created millions of games for the platform, producing a marketplace for commerce as well as fun. Nearly all its content is user-generated, just like TikTok or YouTube, and that is a big part of its attraction. Zuckerberg similarly must turn his metaverse into a place where creators can thrive. Facebook’s current push to test tools for creators feels late, given how far ahead the other pioneers are. Concentrating too much on immersive tech is putting the cart before the horse. Meta needs to make its metaverse both accessible and an attractive place for creators. Going “flat” would be a good start. 10 New Coin Listings On Exchanges – Next Crypto To Pump – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/10-new-coin-listings-on-exchanges-next-crypto-to-pump-cryptonews/ Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com. New crypto exchange listings often offer investors the possibility to get in early on the next cryptocurrency to pump. During this guide, we’ll be taking a look at 10 crypto projects that could be the next new coin listing to pump and providing a step by step guide detailing how to prepare for and buy a new exchange listing. Best New Coin Listing for 2022 – Top 10 List Each of the projects we’ve included has yet to be listed on any large exchanges (Binance, Coinbase, eToro, OKX, etc.) and could be the most promising new coin listing set to pump once they are: Tamadoge – Upcoming New Coin Listing on Tier One Exchange Lucky Block – New Coin Listing in 2022 on MEXC, Gate.io Battle Infinity – Recent Coin Listing on LBank, Coin98, PancakeSwap Adshares – Using Blockchain Technology to Improve Advertising LooksRare – Token From Popular NFT Marketplace Efinity Token – Project From the Enjin Team Kromatika – Upcoming Decentralized Exchange CarboFoot – Rewarding Users for Reducing their Carbon Footprint Beefy Finance – Decentralized Yield Optimizer Digipad – Making Investing Safer, Potential Next Crypto to Pump A Closer Look at the Next Crypto to Pump After Exchange Listings In order to give crypto investors and traders as much choice as possible, we’ve included projects spanning a range of sectors and networks.  1. Tamadoge – Upcoming New Coin Listing on Tier One Exchange Tamadoge (TAMA) is a play-to-earn (P2E) meme coin with all the markings of the next crypto to pump.  This crypto project recently sold out its presale early due to high demand, raising 19 million USDT in under two months, so it’s clear that investor interest in TAMA is high – and it will become the newest coin listing of this year. The P2E aspects of Tamadoge are based around a Metaverse world called the Tamaverse. Within this world, players raise Tamadoge pets using food, accessories, and toys from the in-game store. As a pet levels up, its owner earns Dogepoints, increasing their leaderboard ranking and share of the rewards pool. Tamadoge will have its sights set on Alien Worlds, which was the world’s leading NFT game earlier this year with 1.1 million monthly players. Unlike the vast majority of projects dubbed as the next crypto to pump, Tamadoge has been KYC verified by CoinSniper and audited by Solid Proof, adding a great deal of legitimacy to the project. Now that the presale has concluded, Tamadoge has a confirmed listing on LBank, Uniswap DEX, and a tier one crypto exchange listing is set to be announced. With Tamadoge providing investors a massive amount of utility, a clear roadmap, and consistent updates, it could be the next crypto to pump. Join the Tamadoge Telegram to stay updated with the project’s developments.  Also set to combine the trading volume of three exchange platforms, Tamadoge is our pick for the best new coin listing 2022 wise. Visit Tamadoge 2. Lucky Block – New Coin Listing in 2022 on MEXC, Gate.io Lucky Block (LBLOCK) is a platform dedicated to hosting NFT-based competitions with massive prizes. Lucky Block competitions are unique as they can only be entered by purchasing an NFT linked to the specific competition. Each NFT is priced based on the total jackpot, providing an option for every budget. Even after a competition has ended, the NFT still provides its holder a portion of the rewards pool each day. Recently, the project has upgraded to support both the BEP20 and ERC20 token standard. This has enabled LBLOCK V2 to be listed on centralized exchanges (CEXs).  Furthermore, this update has also removed the tax on LBLOCK transactions, eliminating the 12% fees to 0%, making it better for day trading than the V1 token. The team recently announced that the Ethereum bridge solution for moving between the Ethereum (V2) and BNB Smart Chain (V1) versions of the coin will be live from 3 October 2022, with holders able to claim 0.88 V2 tokens for every 1 V1 token. A CEX listing in August 2022 on MEXC boosted LBLOCK’s value by around 400% securing its place as one of the best cryptos to pump amid an unfavourable market, while the most recent listing on Gate.io in September means that is likely that the token could retest its previous highs sooner rather than later. Lucky Block has also announced a 1% token burn on its circulating supply each month, another bullish catalyst – as well as being in talks for its next new coin listing. So far, LBLOCK V1 has been listed on PancakeSwap, with LBLOCK V2 being available to buy on LBANK, MEXC and Gate.io. Join the Lucky Block Discord to hear about its next new crypto exchange listing before the rest of the market.  Visit Lucky Block 3. Battle Infinity – Recent Coin Listing on LBank, Coin98, PancakeSwap The Metaverse, P2E gaming, and DeFi are perhaps the hottest sectors in cryptocurrency and Battle Infinity (IBAT) blends all three.  The project consists of six core platforms, each fulfilling a unique role in an interconnected ecosystem. There is a fantasy sports league, an NFT marketplace, a collection of player-vs-player P2E games, a Metaverse arena, a decentralized exchange (DEX), and a staking platform. By building a platform with a large number of features, Battle Infinity has cast its net wide to capture a massive user base. This strategy seems to have paid off with it hitting some impressive numbers during its presale and initial DEX offering. Battle Infinity has already proven to be a hit with investors, raising 16,500 BNB in just 25 days during its presale. Even after the presale concluded, the crypto pumped by around 400% during its first DEX listing on PancakeSwap and with more new exchange listings on the way, and Battle Infinity has been rated among the best long terms cryptos to invest in. Battle Infinity uses Binance’s BEP20 standard, boasts an engaged community, and has been attracting investors en masse. With those factors in mind, it seems likely that as more new CEX listings are announced, IBAT could be the next crypto pump. So far IBAT has been listed on Coin98 and LBank with more new crypto exchange listing announcements rumored to be in the works. IBAT token is currently still trading over 100% higher than its presale price of $0.0015, despite the 2022 crypto bear market. Join the Battle Infinity Telegram to stay updated with the project. Visit Battle Infinity 4. Adshares – Using Blockchain Technology to Improve Advertising Adshares (ADS) is a project aiming to reshape advertising through the use of blockchain technology. By simplifying decentralization, Adshares hopes to partner with high-profile advertisers before anyone else.  The project will also enable creators to monetize platforms within cryptocurrency (e.g. the Metaverse, crypto games, etc). 5. LooksRare – Token From Popular NFT Marketplace LooksRare is a community-driven NFT marketplace dedicated to hosting the best NFTs in the industry. The LooksRare (LOOKS) cryptocurrency was created to reward users for shaping the platform.  In contrast to almost every other crypto project, LooksRare gives 100% of the platform’s transaction fees back to users.  6. Efinity Token – Project From the Enjin Team Efinity (EFI) is a new platform created by the Enjin team. The project was built as a Polkadot-based NFT platform. Similar to Enjin, it was created to enable gamers and developers to buy, sell, create, and trade tokenized game items.  The project uses Polkadot’s parachain technology to operate on the DOT blockchain. We also reviewed Enjin (ENJ) on our list of the best metaverse coins, which includes several new coin listings on major centralized crypto exchanges. 7. Kromatika – Upcoming Decentralized Exchange Kromatika (KROM) is an innovative new DEX aggregation platform designed to provide investors with reduced slippage and the best possible value.  As it stands, different DEXs often feature different prices and slippage rates, making the process of buying crypto quite troublesome. By bundling different DEXs into a single platform Kromatika aims to eliminate that issue. As well as having its own native token KROM, many new coin listings will take place on the Kromatika platform itself and initial DEX offerings (IDOs) can often outperform initial coin offerings (ICOS) on CEXs. 8. CarboFoot – Rewarding Users for Reducing their Carbon Footprint CarboFoot (CFOOT) is a project capitalizing on the current move-to-earn trend and could be the next crypto to pump as it’s also an eco friendly token, something many cryptocurrency investors are interested in. The project aims to reward uses for cycling and overall reducing their carbon footprint. Users can earn crypto through gamified recycling, tree planting, cycling, and more. Also see our guide to the most energy efficient cryptocurrencies to invest in. 9. Beefy Finance – Decentralized Yield Optimizer Beefy Finance (BIFI) is a platform offering multi-chain yield optimization. It enables users to stake crypto-assets built on a multitude of networks (Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, etc) on a single platform.  Furthermore, Beefy Finance automatically optimizes yields to provide investors with the best possible returns.  BIFI is still a relativey low cap crypto asset with a market capitalization of just under $25 million according to CoinMarketCap data. 90% of its total supply is also unlocked and in circulation, which can help an asset be the next crypto to pump, especially as each new coin listing increases the number of buyers competing for that circulating supply. 10. Digipad – Making Investing Safer Digipad (DGP) is a BEP-based project aiming to create a safer ecosystem for crypto investors....

US Dollar Hits New 20-Year High As Russia Calls Up Reservists – CNN https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-dollar-hits-new-20-year-high-as-russia-calls-up-reservists-cnn/ London CNN Business  —  The US dollar climbed to a new two-decade high on Wednesday after Russia said it was mobilizing 300,000 military reserves in an escalation of the war in Ukraine. In a televised national address Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin announced an immediate partial mobilization of Russian citizens and threatened to use “all the means at our disposal” to defend Russia “and our people.” He also referenced the potential use of nuclear weapons. The speech pushed the greenback up 0.4% against a basket of major currencies to its strongest level since 2002. Investors often seek safe haven in US dollar assets during times of geopolitical tension. Oil prices also jumped. Brent crude futures, the global benchmark, gained 2.5%, rising to just below $93 per barrel. Russian stocks slid 3.5% Wednesday after the announcement, adding to heavy losses incurred Tuesday after Putin threatened to hold referendums to annex parts of Ukraine still occupied by Russian forces. The ruble also dropped nearly 3% against the US dollar. Asian stocks pulled back. While indexes in Europe initially dropped, they were last flat or slightly higher in morning trade ahead of the Federal Reserve’s latest policy announcement. The euro initially slumped 0.7% to hit 98 cents ($0.97) against the US dollar, but has since ticked upwards. The currency, used by 19 European countries, sunk below the dollar in late August, shaken by soaring inflation and the energy crisis triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February. The war has added to stress for investors, since it makes it harder to predict when inflation will ease and could push central banks to maintain an aggressive tack for longer. — Tara Subramaniam and Andrew Raine contributed reporting.

NITV Federal Services’ ‘Best-In-Class’ Technology Replaces The Old Polygraph – PR Newswire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/nitv-federal-services-best-in-class-technology-replaces-the-old-polygraph-pr-newswire/ , /PRNewswire/ — For anyone that has been in the criminal justice system any length of time, the limitations of the polygraph are well-known. Polygraph tests have a 25-30% ‘inconclusive’ rate, drugs and medical issues can dramatically affect the results, there are numerous well-known countermeasures to defeat it, and it usually takes weeks to schedule an exam. Due to the fact that it takes 10 weeks to train a polygrapher, it costs around $90,000 to purchase a polygraph and train 2 examiners (tuition, room & board, salary, etc.).   CVSA III Add to that, the failures of the polygraph are legendary: the ‘Green River Killer‘ Gary Ridgeway, was suspected of killing 4 women but passed the polygraph. He went on to kill another 44 women; CIA agent Aldrich Ames passed many polygraphs while providing Russia the names of our double agents working in that country – most were assassinated; Mark Christy, the actual killer of a 74- year-old woman, passed a polygraph while an innocent man failed and confessed to the murder. Mr. Christy went on to abduct and murder a four-year-old girl. Christy was convicted of her murder and then confessed to killing the 74-year-old woman; the ‘Angel of Death,‘ nurse Charles Cullen, was suspected of killing patients. He took 2 separate polygraphs three months apart and passed both. He went on to kill another 30-40 people. For the above stated reasons, today, approximately 2,800 law enforcement agencies have abandoned the old polygraph for the now proven technology called the Computer Voice Stress Analyzer® (CVSA®). These agencies utilize the CVSA for both criminal and background investigations and they include the Illinois State Police, California Highway Patrol, New Orleans P.D., Atlanta P.D., Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Kansas City P.D, Salt Lake City P.D., California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Hawaii Dept. of Public Safety, US Probation and Pretrial Services, and Federal Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces (ICAC). The CVSA became such a success mainly due to the fact that law enforcement found that it is fast, reliable, accurate, cost-effective, is easy to use virtually anywhere, and the patented scoring algorithm automatically indicates deceptive responses. They also found that unlike the polygraph, drugs and medical issues are not known to affect the results of the CVSA, there are no known countermeasures, and no “inconclusive” results. The total cost of the CVSA III with 2 investigators trained is 1/6 the total cost of the polygraph with two students trained, the Certified Examiners Course is 1 week whereas polygraph training averages 10 weeks.  For information on what is called “One of the most important investigative tools available today” visit CVSA1.com, call toll-free at 888-266-7263 or e-mail us at [email protected].  *NITV Federal Services, 11400 Fortune Cir., West Palm Beach, FL, is the sole source of the CVSA* The CVSA is sold only to Law Enforcement/Government Agencies Media Contact:  Kim Tegtmeier [email protected] 561-798-6280 SOURCE NITV Federal Services

GoZayaan Doubles Down On International Travel Services – Future Startup https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/gozayaan-doubles-down-on-international-travel-services-future-startup/ GoZayaan brings convenience to travelers by regularly introducing exciting new services. Starting from excellent hotel inventory, flight booking solutions, travel insurance, and baggage insurance, GoZayaan has consistently introduced new innovations. The company says it aims to bring every component of international travel—flights, hotels, tours—under one platform.  If you are a regular traveler, you are well aware of all the challenges travelers like you have to face when it comes to traveling internationally from Bangladesh. Travelers routinely complain publicly online about many of these challenges. For others, it is so frustrating, even complaining is not worth it.  It’s bad for morale to numerate one’s own troubles but it helps with developing an understanding and awareness. So in the interest of the common good, here are some of the challenges travelers face while booking international travel services from Bangladesh.  Local offline vendors don’t provide enough options for international hotels or flights, making informed decisions is a challenge. It is often like a blind date. You choose something and wish for the best. Little to no option to see photos of rooms when it comes to hotel booking or learn about specific amenities before going to the venue. Similarly, the option to compare multiple flight prices is limited in the offline-dominated scene in Bangladesh.  Most people can’t access the services of foreign online platforms that offer large inventories of international hotels for various reasons such as payment methods being limited to foreign credit cards or dollar-endorsed credit cards. Now a large majority of Bangladeshis don’t own international credit/debit cards, which limits their ability to pay for these services.  Now many of these foreign websites also offer a “pay at property” option, which means you can pay once you reach the hotel. But it requires carrying and endorsing a large amount of additional foreign currency during traveling. Skyrocketing exchange rates are a great disadvantage in this regard. And you might not want to carry that amount of foreign currency anyway. One option that can make this entire saga super simple for most Bangladeshis is allowing them to pay in local currency. Unfortunately, there is no option to use the local currency or pay through local methods on these international websites.  To avoid many of these challenges, many travelers choose to take tour packages. But tour packages come with their own limitations. For one, package tours often put people’s vacation time in set boxes with little freedom. You can do this but not that. You can go to these places but not to those places. The majority of these packages are not customizable. Often you compromise and go grudgingly since there are not many options left. Anyways, life is about bad compromises, you may self-console.   Enter GoZayaan’s international travel services ambition  GoZayaan, the Dhaka head quartered travel-tech company, has been an unusual player in this space since birth. Instead of fancying around cool ideas, the company has a knack for taking on the real challenges travelers face head-on. Paying close attention to the long list of solutions the company introduced over the last three years proves that the company truly takes the challenges of travelers into its heart.  Throughout the pandemic, GoZayaan introduced several services to empower local travel in Bangladesh. As we enter a post-pandemic world and international travel returns in full force, GoZayaan has turned its attention to addressing challenges travelers face when it comes to international travel from Bangladesh.  We discussed some of the major pain in the ass for international travelers above. Let’s see how GoZayaan has been designing solutions to solve these challenges.  Let’s start with the final challenge we mentioned — the inflexible tour packages. GoZayaan has since turned tour packages on its head. The company offers completely customizable online packages to provide freedom to travelers. Design your own travel plans. Choose the destinations you want to visit. Foods you want to eat. Adventures you want to take. And simply ask GoZayaan to make it happen.  To offer the ultimate freedom of booking any hotel, GoZayaan has created an inventory of almost 700,000 hotels—the largest for any Bangladeshi travel platform. You can book based on your every preference—price, amenities, location, or any other priorities. Detailed information, photos, and location data are provided about each hotel to make your decision easier. GoZayaan’s platform also allows users to customize their search according to star rating and price. The cherry on top, ratings from other users are visible to determine the quality of the hotel.  For flights, GoZayaan offers comprehensive international flight solutions. You can browse through numerous flight options, compare prices, and choose the best. The process is entirely transparent and puts the control in the hands of the traveler.  Now that you have chosen the hotel and flights, how do you make payment? GoZayaan has made it possible to pay through any local payment method—credit card, debit card, Bkash, Nagad, Upay, Tap, etc. No worries about dollar endorsements or foreign credit cards.  The entire process is automated and does not require travelers to make calls or talk to a representative to confirm bookings. Instant confirmation is provided along with a voucher for the booking.  Most importantly, travelers can take advantage of 0% EMI for upto 6 months for flights, hotels, and tours. GoZayaan is the only online travel platform in Bangladesh to currently offer the 0% EMI service for flights. We also covered GoZayaan’s unique EMI facilities before here. It allows you to travel without putting additional pressure on your monthly pay cheque. You can split your expenses and pay in monthly installments.  GoZayaan is venturing forth into a territory that was mostly overlooked before. People used to rely on international websites for international travel services. GoZayaan says it is changing consumer behavior and pushing travelers to book these services through local websites. The company says it aims to bring every component of international travel—flights, hotels, tours—under one platform.  Going further  Apart from improving existing travel services, GoZayaan has onboarded many local and international vendors to bring value-added services to its customers. Let’s take a look at several of those services Travel Loan: Online travel loans can be availed for upto 200,000 BDT. We’ve written about the GoZayaan travel loan before here. It is one of the most interesting service innovations in travel of late.  Travel Insurance: During the COVID times, GoZayaan launched the travel insurance service which could be availed for as low as 10 BDT. This included coverage for upto 100,000 BDT and confirmed proper medical care in case of a traveler contracts COVID during his stay.  Baggage Insurance: Partnering up with BlueRibbon Bags, GoZayaan has become the first company in Bangladesh to provide baggage protection. There is no need to fret over lost luggage anymore as only 300 BDT worth of premium while purchasing tickets can result in a payoff of upto 30,000 BDT in case luggage is lost.  Endnote  GoZayaan was founded in 2017 with an ambition to empower travelers. Using a combination of innovation and service, the company has experienced excellent growth. But it doesn’t want to rest on its success.  GoZayaan says it aims to provide an end-to-end automated holistic travel booking experience. Whether one prefers relaxing vacations by the beach or daring adventures, travel is for everyone and travelers deserve the freedom to explore every horizon they dream of. GoZayaan says it is here to enable travelers to achieve their limitless dreams.

Wall Street CEOs Return To Capitol Hill As Election Looms – 69News WFMZ-TV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/wall-street-ceos-return-to-capitol-hill-as-election-looms-69news-wfmz-tv/ WASHINGTON (AP) — In what has become an annual ritual, the CEOs of the major U.S. banks will appear in front of Congress this week to sell themselves as shepherds of a helpful industry at a time of financial and economic distress for many Americans. Democrats have called JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citigroup to Washington to talk about pocketbook issues as households contend with the highest inflation since the early 1980’s and the midterm election looms just weeks away. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, which focus on investment banking, will not testify this time. Instead, the CEOs of three new banks will testify: Andy Cecere of U.S. Bank, William Demchak of PNC Financial and William Rogers Jr. of Truist. Each of them run “super regionals,” banks that are huge in their own right, with thousands of branches and hundreds of billions in assets, but are dwarfed in size by JPMorgan, BofA, Citi and Wells. While billed as a hearing on everyday finances, the CEOs are also likely to face difficult political questions with Washington in the midst of an election year. Republicans are almost certain to use the opportunity to ask about the tracking of gun store sales as well as whether banks should weigh in on hot-button social issues. Democrats are likely to ask about Wall Street’s lending to oil and gas companies, racial and wealth equity issues, CEO pay and overdraft fees. Many Americans still remember bailing out the banking industry nearly 15 years ago, so the bank CEOs typically use the annual platform to sell themselves as a force for good. The biggest banks were the primary conduit for the Paycheck Protection Program loans to small businesses. Many banks waived overdraft or late fees for borrowers during the worst of the pandemic and subsequently cut back on their collection of overdraft fees. The most prominent example was Bank of America cutting its overdraft fee from $35 to $10. “The work we do at JPMorgan Chase matters, in good times, and particularly in tough times,” said Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan, in prepared remarks. “We finance Americans’ ambitions with loans for homes, autos, and growing a small business, and provide valuable products and services to more than half of American households.” Eager to avoid the political headache that comes with being labeled as part of “Wall Street,” the super regionals are likely to bill themselves as a competitive alternative to the Wall Street megabanks. A series of mergers have brought increased scrutiny for the super regionals. U.S. Bank is currently in the process of buying MUFG Union Bank, the U.S. consumer banking arm of the Japanese banking giant. Truist resulted from the merger of SunTrust and BB&T and PNC bought the consumer banking franchise of Spanish bank BBVA. “We are a responsible provider that works for American consumers and the economy as a whole,” Cecere of U.S. Bank said in his prepared remarks. The CEOs will appear in front of the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday, and return to testify in front of the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. Approximately 25% of immunocompromised patients have received a fifth vaccine dose, according to survey results released by the Global Healthy Living Foundation. The poll, conducted by the Global Healthy Living Foundation’s COVID-19 Patient Support Program, recorded responses from 1,492 respondents. Among the respondents, 93% reported being immunocompromised and 96% reported receiving the initial two-dose course of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, according to a release. Three quarters of all respondents reported not receiving their fifth vaccine dose, according to the Global Healthy Living Foundation. Source: Adobe Stock Under guidance released by the CDC, patients who are aged 12 years or older and immunocompromised are . The dose should be administered no earlier than 4 months following the fourth dose, the guidance said. Of those who responded to the survey, 78% reported receiving a fourth dose of the vaccine, while 25% reported receiving a fifth dose. Among patients who received the Johnson and Johnson single-dose vaccine as their first dose, 80% reported receiving a second dose, and two-thirds reported plans to receive additional doses. Of the patients who reported receiving their fifth dose, 77% reported no difficulties in attaining the vaccine. The most common reason for not receiving a fifth dose, as reported by 31% of respondents, was that they had been waiting for a booster-specific version of the vaccine. Other reasons included being within the 4-month window before being eligible and advice from health care providers. Additionally, “many” respondents were unaware a fifth dose is recommended for immunocompromised patients, according to the release. “The recommendation for the fifth COVID-19 vaccine dose comes as COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations have been on the rise across the U.S.,” the release said. “This is largely due to the BA.4 and BA.5 variants, which now make up to 80 percent of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. With the spread of COVID-19 cases, it is as important as ever to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccine doses.” References: COVID-19 vaccines for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/immuno.html. Here Is The Latest ACC Sports News From The Associated Press – Mankato Free Press https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/here-is-the-latest-acc-sports-news-from-the-associated-press-mankato-free-press/ CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — No. 5 Clemson has a clear chance to be favorites for the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Atlantic Division. First up is No. 21 Wake Forest on Saturday followed by 12th-ranked North Carolina State a week later. But if the Tigers fall short, it’s likely to be a season long, week-to-week scuffle for the division crown. Clemson won the division from 2015 through 2020, but were mostly out of contention for a seventh straight title by mid-October. Wake Forest is the defending Atlantic winner and face Clemson at home looking to snap a 13-game series losing streak. UNDATED (AP) — The College Football Playoff is built to expand. While only three games determine a champion, the current postseason format is seven games: Two semifinals, a championship game and four marquee bowls. To convert a four-team playoff into 12 requires four more games and about three more weeks. Expanding for the 2024 and ’25 seasons largely hinges upon whether the already-scheduled semifinals and championship game can be pushed back. The NFL schedule will play a big role, too. College football fans should be prepared to watch playoff games on weeknights. CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee returned to campus Monday but will head back to Maryland with coach Dabo Swinney and up to 40 players and staffers for the funeral of his sister, Ella. The 15-year-old died of brain cancer last Thursday. Her brother went home to his family after the Tigers’ 35-12 victory over Furman on Sept. 10 and did not play this weekend in a win against Louisiana Tech. Bresee is expected to play Saturday against No. 21 Wake Forest. UNDATED (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference is relocating its headquarters but remaining in its home state of North Carolina. The league announced it would move its offices from Greensboro to downtown Charlotte in 2023. The league was founded in Greensboro in 1953. Commissioner Jim Phillips had been discussing the possibility since last year after taking over for the retiring John Swofford. Phillips said last October that the ACC’s school presidents and chancellors had inquired about the future of the league’s headquarters during his interview process. UNDATED (AP) — Three weeks into the season and there are still more than few teams ranked in The Associated Press college football poll ranked that have a lot to prove. No. 4 Michigan is the prime example. The Wolverines have scored at least 50 in each of their first three games, but those opponents are a combined 0-9 against other FBS teams. But where it is ranked is based more on faith than accomplishments. Reality check rolls through the rankings this week, looking for mystery teams. UNDATED (AP) — Four running backs rushed for at least 200 yards in the Football Bowl Subdivision over the weekend. Eastern Michigan’s Samson Evans carried 36 times for 259 yards and a touchdown against Arizona State. UNLV’s Aidan Robbins ran for 227 yards and three TDs against North Texas. UAB’s Dewayne McBride had 223 yards and four TDs against Georgia Southern. Minnesota’s Mohammed Ibrahim had 202 yards and three touchdowns against Colorado. Ohio State scored 77 points for the third time since 2016. Georgia has allowed seven points or less in each of its first three games for the first time since 1954. Future Network Trends Driving Universal Metaverse Mobility Ericsson
Future Network Trends Driving Universal Metaverse Mobility Ericsson
Future Network Trends Driving Universal Metaverse Mobility – Ericsson https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/future-network-trends-driving-universal-metaverse-mobility-ericsson/ Expectations about future critical network capabilities and performance have risen significantly among stakeholders across business, societal and governmental spheres in the past couple of years, largely due to the solid performance of the digital infrastructure during the pandemic. At the same time, our industry has continued to invest in evolved 5G and 6G research for a trustworthy and universal open connectivity platform that accelerates digitalization for enhanced social, economic and environmental outcomes, in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Indian industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata once said: “If you want to walk fast, walk alone. But if you want to walk far, walk together.” In my opinion, his words are more applicable today than ever before. To enable greater collaboration in the years ahead, we need to build an amplified ecosystem with enhanced development capabilities supported by open interfaces, open source and open innovation. This amplified ecosystem will drive the integration of communication and compute resources into a continuous intelligent network compute fabric, where processing and intelligence can be offered anywhere. System energy efficiency is a fundamental design optimization parameter of the network compute fabric. Aside from the technical solutions, the ecosystem will also open up new, innovative business models in areas such as applications, advertisements, devices and payments to drive scale and customer efficiency. This includes optimizing consumer willingness to pay for any specific service, from best effort to guaranteed quality of service (QoS). Extended reality (XR) and immersive communication will shape the coming decade and become a major advantage in the realization of not only completely virtual metaverses but also in the embedding of virtual content into the physical environment. In last year’s trends article, the first trend focused on the technologies behind digital representation for the convergence of physical and digital worlds. Since then, I have observed huge investments in metaverse-related technologies such as devices, chipsets, development platforms and applications. This year, I have selected three network trends as the focus of my annual technology trends article: a unified network platform that enables businessdriven enterprise innovation; connectivity for an immersive user experience; and the quest for high-performing networks. Trends #1 and #2 – and the strong link between them – place extreme performance demands on the coming 6G system to support a wide variety of enterprise use cases that will enable enhanced differentiation. And it is those demands that lead directly toward trend #3. #1: A unified network platform for business-driven enterprise innovation #2: Connectivity for an immersive user experience #3: The quest for high-performing networks Metaverse is a common expression for the next generation of the internet that is real time, spatial and interactive. The term was originally coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel Snow Crash and its exact meaning today varies depending on who you ask. For some, a metaverse exists in a purely virtual world that humans experience through virtual reality headsets. For others, it has a strong foundation in the physical world with digital overlays experienced through augmented reality or more interactive mixed reality. In a metaverse, you and/or your avatar are able to interact as humans do, looking into each other’s eyes, perceiving body language and even touching each other. A unified network platform will both support and drive the development of a wide variety of new, innovative enterprise use cases. Many of them will involve the delivery of easy-to-use immersive experiences by and between humans as well as autonomous communication and operation between intelligent machines or between humans and machines. As such, the unified network platform will act as an open innovation platform connecting different ecosystems, facilitating collaboration and business growth. One of the keys to enhanced application innovation is the evolution of network user/developer interfaces through exposed, easy-to-use functions. This includes, for instance, functions that enable productivity, communication, collaboration, gaming and enhanced video. The unified network platform will offer aggregation capabilities that enable interoperability across the actors in the ecosystem to secure unified and global reach. These exposed network capabilities will optimize both application performance and user experience. The developer will have the freedom to select the level of differentiation depending on the application/consumer needs such as quality of experience (QoE), performance, security and privacy. Architecture One fundament of the unified network platform is the possibility to aggregate and enhance service exposure from different networks. Examples of exposed functions through open application programming interfaces (APIs) include QoS prediction, spatial information, user identity, service authorization, instantaneous radio coverage and userdensity maps. To manage the different service provider network interfaces, the unified network platform will secure aggregation and routing of the exposed network functions. These network functions will be enhanced by integration of other value-adding functions originating from the global ecosystem. This can involve mediation and interoperability functions for spatial rights management, for example. The network features and services exposed by the unified network platform will enable the developer ecosystem to build and monetize new applications. Exposed services will range from basic aggregated 5G network features, unified communication services, to more advanced services such as guaranteed QoS, real-time gaming, XR conversations and dedicated industry services. Advanced and highly differentiated services that leverage network slicing will be delivered according to service-level agreements (SLAs). The unified network platform will provide a unified software development environment that will lead to a surge in service and application innovation. The unified network platform will benefit from industry alignment that ensures cost efficiency, faster innovation and industry adoption. In particular, it is important for the industry to align on exposed network capabilities through open APIs for ease of use in the innovative enterprise business development process. Many network capabilities will need to grow exponentially during the decade ahead in order to unleash the full potential of technologies such as XR, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet of Senses. After successfully handling the exponential growth of each previous technology generation, our industry is now investing in evolved 5G and 6G research to meet future requirements. Industry leadership will require QoE differentiation from the best-effort services that have traditionally dominated the IT industry. Guaranteed QoE requires solutions that span the end-to-end (E2E) ecosystem of device, network, distributed and central compute, and application actors. This calls for collaboration among the different actors in the ecosystem to establish open standards that enable global scale, innovation, interoperability and performance. Opening the door for extended reality Starting from more basic functions, XR applications will develop as devices and network capabilities advance. Important application clusters for this evolution involve gaming, entertainment, social communication, retail, shopping and virtual work, for example. Existing XR applications primarily focus on a single user who is physically present in a predefined static environment with immersive content that is semi-static in the sense that it only partially adapts to the environment, such as attaching to the floor or another flat surface. This will evolve to dynamic environments that contain moving objects and people, which means that applications need to start adapting to such dynamics. As XR continues to mature, it will eventually be possible for multiple users to be physically present in dynamic environments with content that dynamically adapts to the surroundings. Real-time occlusion of the rendered content will enable a fully spatialized digital experience. To render the immersive content, the physical environment needs to be replicated in a digital format known as a spatial map. Spatial maps are built on static physical environmental data, such as real estate and roads, overlaid by real-time physical environmental data such as moving cars and pedestrians. To master the rendering, the spatial map information also needs to include the location and orientation of the application user, including their head movement and foveal area – that is, the area covered by the part of the human eye that is responsible for high-acuity vision. Network evolution XR applications will demand new system design optimization across the E2E system of device, connectivity, edge and cloud. For instance, spatial-map compute and rendering distribution will have a strong influence on device energy consumption, weight and size. Spatial mapping and rendering processing will need to be offloaded in order to design iconic devices with eyeglass-style, slim form factor and long battery life. Our research at Ericsson indicates that processing offload of XR applications to the edge reduces device energy consumption by threefold to sevenfold depending on the level of device processing offload. The move from traditional 2D media to advanced immersive media services increases the informational load, due to the multiplicity of media streams and th...
