The Exercises To Skip For Weight Loss After 50 – Eat This, Not That https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-exercises-to-skip-for-weight-loss-after-50-eat-this-not-that/ As you age, it may seem more and more difficult to shed excess pounds. Living a mostly sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits, and changes to your metabolism can be major culprits behind weight gain as you grow older, according to Healthline. Time is a precious thing, so knowing what you should and shouldn’t focus on to meet your end goal is key. That’s why we rounded up the exercises you should skip for weight loss after 50 so no time goes to waste. Weight loss after 50 means developing just the right fitness and eating habits and sticking to them. In order to achieve the results you desire, you’ll need to ditch foods with added sugars, add strength training to your fitness regimen, enjoy healthy home-cooked meals, boost how much protein you consume, and maintain a diet based on whole foods (via Healthline). If you’re looking to lose weight, then strength training should be the main focus of your workouts. Why? Well, this form of exercise helps build muscle, boost your metabolism, and burn more calories than if you were to perform regular cardio. Strength training is especially important for individuals who are 50 and up, because you start to lose muscle mass as you age, and it’s imperative to do everything you can to build and maintain it. I recommend strength training at least three times a week, focusing on mostly compound movements. There are certain exercises, however, that I recommend not wasting any time on. The below movements are either not as effective as others, or they may be harder on your joints. Keep reading to learn more. Tim Liu, C.S.C.S. The first of the exercises you should skip for weight loss after 50 is the side bend. This popular exercise is used to target your lateral core—or your “love handles” area. Remember: The primary function of the core is to shift force between your upper body to your lower body and keep your trunk stable, which this exercise doesn’t accomplish. In addition, when it comes to weighted ab movements, you want to limit the amount you’re performing in workouts, because they can cause hypertrophy, making your core appear “thicker.” If you want slimmer obliques, I would avoid weighted side bends and focus on side plank variations or chops. Related: The #1 Floor Workout To Get Rid of the Middle-aged Spread Ah, classic sit-ups. Many people automatically gravitate toward ab exercises like sit-ups and crunches, because they believe these moves will get the job done quickly and efficiently. Well, think again. Some individuals have a forward head and hunched-back posture; this is more pronounced among people who are 50 and above. You may be surprised to hear this, but performing sit-ups can make this even worse. Far too many gym-goers perform sit-ups by cranking on their necks and using their hip flexors instead of their abs, making it a movement that’s, simply put, best avoided. Related: 5 Exercise Habits to Slow Muscle Aging, Trainer Reveals Although box jumps can be a great exercise for building power, this comes with a caveat: It takes strength, stability, and coordination to perform the movement properly. If you haven’t been active in quite some time or performed athletic plyometric movements before, you can increase your risk of injury. Plyometrics can potentially be high intensity and high impact, which could wreak havoc on the health of your joints, according to HealthFit Coaching. This is especially true if you don’t have much strength or muscle mass. Instead of jumping right in, it’s best to focus on learning how to squat properly and build up your lower body strength before thinking about performing box jumps. The barbell bench press is one of the most popular upper-body pressing exercises—and for good reason. Unfortunately, it’s not the best movement to perform if you deal with shoulder issues; grabbing a heavy barbell to work these muscles on the regular could damage your shoulder joints. If you’re 50 and up and have joint pain in your shoulders, specifically while performing this movement, I recommend using dumbbells instead or opting for pushup variations. Much better to be safe than sorry! Tim Liu, C.S.C.S. Tim Liu, CSCS, is an online fitness and nutrition coach based in Los Angeles Read more about Tim

Maxwell. He read it cover to cover and still uses many of the lessons he learned from that book as he approaches his sophomore season as a member of the Florida State Basketball Team. “The most important thing I learned from studying the book was that being a leader isn’t only about the people you’re leading; it’s about you and your own ability to be a leader. A leader is truly about your potential and how effective you are in how you are leading those you are leading,” said Matthew. Cleveland’s leadership was just one of the many topics covered at the ACC’s Annual Basketball Tipoff at the Westin Hotel on Wednesday. The reigning ACC Sixth Man of the Year was joined by redshirt junior Caleb Mills and Head Coach Leonard Hamilton as Florida State’s representatives at the day-long event. Each of the 15 conference teams took their turn answering questions from local and national media with their sights set on the start of the 2022-23 season, which is less than one month away. Cleveland is Florida State’s second-leading returning scorer, as he averaged 11.5 points while playing in 29 of the Seminoles’ 31 games last year. He was the fourth consecutive Seminole to earn Sixth Man of the Year honors in the nation’s top conference, following in the footsteps of Mfiondu Kabengele (2019), Patrick Williams (2020), and Scottie Barnes (2021). “Being a leader is important to me because it’s a role that encompasses all aspects of your life,” said Matthew. “Learning to be a leader is something I can apply to many of the things I do, including working hard and doing well in school, my life outside of basketball and my life after basketball.” Cleveland illustrated his desire to be one of the Seminoles’ leaders early during his freshman season. He scored in double figures against Florida in just his second career game, made the game-winning basket in overtime to lead the Seminoles over Boston University in just the fifth game of his career, and surpassed the 20-point mark for the first time in his career in the middle of January. Cleveland then made one of the most dramatic shots of the 2022 college basketball season as he sank a near half-court, turnaround no-look jumper to propel the Seminoles past Virginia, 64-63, on the road in ACC play. Hamilton, a veteran leader himself, marvels at Cleveland’s leadership abilities despite his relative inexperience. “You go back and watch the season last year,” said Hamilton. “There were so many times as a freshman when we needed a play and Matthew came through. He has the “factor” that you can’t really describe. He makes the big plays at the end. He’s not afraid of the moment. We expect him to keep getting better and better.” It didn’t take Hamilton long to realize Cleveland’s competitiveness, as he praised him early, and often, during his freshman season. Matthew is farther along than most guys we’ve had who were first-year players,” Hamilton said prior to the Seminoles’ game against Georgia Tech in January of 2022. “He’s extremely competitive, he’s very confident, he knows ho...

Toward An Inclusive Metaverse: Meta Supports Research Project – MIXED Reality News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/toward-an-inclusive-metaverse-meta-supports-research-project-mixed-reality-news/ Image: RODNAE Productions (Pexels) The metaverse should also work for people with disabilities. Meta supports a research project that aims to advance the inclusive metaverse. The “Social Virtual Reality” project is concerned with increasing accessibility in VR for people with disabilities, senior citizens, or those impaired by illness. In particular, the group looks at social VR apps such as VRChat, Rec Room, or Horizon Worlds. Social VR can improve quality of life “The buzzing world of SVR has the potential to open up a wide array of opportunities for disabled and older people to engage with life and improve its quality,” explains project leader Dr. Vanja Garaj. The Brunel Design School research director sees great potential in social VR apps. In addition to simple entertainment, for example, social VR combats loneliness. Improving employment prospects for people with disabilities through VR training or VR online education is also possible, she says. A framework for an inclusive metaverse The research team aims to develop a “Social Virtual Reality Inclusion Framework” within the next three years. This will include tools and guidance on how to make the metaverse more accessible for elders, people with vision or hearing loss, dexterity or mobility issues, mental illness, cognitive impairments, or learning disabilities. One such approach is already offered by the VR app WalkinVR, which makes current VR hits such as Beat Saber or Job Simulator accessible to people with physical disabilities. The VR fitness app FitXR also focuses on inclusion, offering workouts for people with mobility impairments, for example. Kündigung jederzeit online möglich ab 2,80 € / Monat Meta supports research for more inclusion in the metaverse Other organizations involved in the project include Cambridge University and tech giant Meta. According to Dr. Garaj, Meta played a decisive role in the realization of the project. Meta’s support helped justify the project at the proposal stage, he said. It is unclear what the group’s involvement was in concrete terms. However, it is likely to be mainly advisory and offering technical support, as the project is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to the tune of just under $1.1 million. “We see Social VR as a significant step towards the ‘full-blown’ metaverse and Meta is leading the efforts to establish this new global network,” Garaj said. Alleged Xiaomi 13 Spotted In The Wild, Could Feature Laser Autofocus – TechNave https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/alleged-xiaomi-13-spotted-in-the-wild-could-feature-laser-autofocus-technave/ The last Xiaomi flagship devices from the Xiaomi 12T series launched in Malaysia about two weeks ago. But already Xiaomi could be working on a new model, the successor to the Xiaomi 12 series. Recently, sources claim that a live photo for an upcoming Xiaomi phone was leaked. According to 91Mobiles, this leaked photo is the Xiaomi 13. If that’s true, it would mean that Xiaomi will be changing the layout of the rear camera module. As you can see, the smartphone in the photo maintains a 3-camera setup. But where the Xiaomi 12 has one large main camera with two secondary lenses, the alleged Xiaomi 13 has three cameras that all look about the same. What’s interesting is the word ‘LASER’ etched onto the camera module. This implies that the device could come with laser autofocus for the rear cameras. It’s a great feature to have because it helps cameras autofocus even in the dark. Also, laser autofocus emits its own light, so it’s faster than the contrast detection-based autofocus in regular smartphones. Mind you, there’s no solid proof that the device in the photos is the Xiaomi 13, so take the rumour with a grain of salt. Having said that, laser autofocus is pretty cool, and we’d like to see it added. How about you, is this a feature you would want? Crypto News Today: Big Eyes Coin Continues Presale Dominance As Ethereum And BNB Battle It Out For The Best – Bitcoinist https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/crypto-news-today-big-eyes-coin-continues-presale-dominance-as-ethereum-and-bnb-battle-it-out-for-the-best-bitcoinist/ NFTs have gained immense popularity since the introduction of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection by Yuga Labs. Since then, NFT adoption has grown, with different blockchains offering an NFT marketplace from which you can purchase your beloved NFTs. Ethereum (ETH) and BNB (BNB) host recognised NFT marketplaces that have served their users well over the years. However, only one can be the best NFT blockchain! Additionally, Big Eyes Coin (BIG) has continued its dominance through its presale, raising $7 million at the time of writing. Big Eyes Is On The Rise Big Eyes Coin has attracted a lot of attention since its inception. The new platform provides its users with an array of services from which they can earn and save tokens. Big Eyes Coin has adopted a unique zero-tax policy on shopping so you can save more of your BIG tokens! The Big Eyes Coin platform is built on the Ethereum blockchain, utilising its newly updated Proof-of-Stake consensus to increase its transaction speed while reducing its environmental impact. Big Eyes Coin will donate 5% of its tokens to ocean conservation efforts to protect a crucial part of our ecosystem and showcase its commitment to sustainability. NFTs will become a big part of the Big Eyes Coin ecosystem when they launch at stage three of the roadmap. Big Eyes Coin is moving away from having NFTs as something to look at. Instead, Big Eyes Coin is bringing utility to NFTs and using them as keys to access exclusive events and clubs! Ethereum Merge Helps NFT Transactions Now Ethereum is a Proof-of-Stake platform, users can take advantage of its fast transaction speeds that can reach up to 100,000 per second at its peak performance. Those worried about the environmental impact of Ethereum can put their mind at ease. With the new update, Ethereum has reduced its carbon footprint by 99%. Ethereum hosts the most popular NFT marketplace in the blockchain industry, OpenSea. Since the merge has increased transaction speeds, OpenSea users will enjoy increased speeds with potentially lower fees. Ethereum is praised for its security. OpenSea has industry-standard security features that allow users to remain relaxed, knowing their assets are safe. BNB was recently hacked for $570 million, showcasing Ethereum’s dominance regarding security. Can BNB Recover After The Hack? As mentioned above, BNB was recently hacked for $570 million in BNB tokens. This hack is seen as one of the biggest hacks in crypto history, showcasing vulnerabilities in blockchain technology. However, the BNB blockchain is now up and running again, showing its ability to recover quickly after a hack. One advantage the BNB NFT marketplace has over other marketplaces is its low transaction fees. BNB charges a set 1% fee on each transaction, which is significantly lower than several major NFT marketplaces. BNB knows that there is a growing population of people trying to get into cryptocurrency. To make it easier for them, BNB has made the NFT marketplace easy to access and use. BNB also hosts educational resources that teach users about the blockchain industry. To Summarise Ethereum and BNB both host amazing NFT marketplaces that are easily accessible. Now NFTs are becoming increasingly popular, each blockchain is trying to add a unique twist so their NFT marketplace stands out. Currently, Ethereum hosts the best NFT blockchain, but BNB could change that in the future. Additionally, Big Eyes Coin has continued its successful run through its presale. The new platform could compete with Ethereum and BNB in the future as it looks to shift wealth into the DeFi ecosystem. Big Eyes Coin is currently in presale and is offering a bonus to those who purchase BIG tokens using the ‘BIGSAVE22’ code. US Senate Candidate Gerald Malloy Courts Conservative Vermonters Who Are ready For Change Vtdigger.org
US Senate Candidate Gerald Malloy Courts Conservative Vermonters Who Are ready For Change Vtdigger.org
US Senate Candidate Gerald Malloy Courts Conservative Vermonters Who Are ‘ready For Change’ – Vtdigger.org https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-senate-candidate-gerald-malloy-courts-conservative-vermonters-who-are-ready-for-change-vtdigger-org/ A political newcomer, Malloy had never run for office before he threw his hat in the ring to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. Come January, Leahy will close a nearly five-decade-long career in the U.S. Senate. When Leahy stood in the Vermont Statehouse last November to announce his upcoming retirement, candidates vying to rise in the state’s notably small political ranks were ready. Just one week after Leahy’s press conference, U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., launched his campaign for the newly opened Senate seat. Three high-profile Democrats quickly lined up for Welch’s soon-to-be-vacant post in the House, and by January, former U.S. attorney Christina Nolan was publicly exploring a Republican challenge to Welch. Not Malloy.  In an interview with VTDigger in October, the 60-year-old Army veteran said, “You know, when Sen. Leahy made his announcement, I had, the day before that, absolutely no thoughts of running to be a U.S. senator.” In the ensuing year, Malloy said, his mindset progressed from “could run, should run, have to run” to “have to win.” Since launching his campaign in March, Malloy has traveled the state to beat the drum of fiscal and social conservatism, leaving a trail of his simple yet arguably menacing “Deploy Malloy” lawn signs. The slogan refers to Malloy’s 22-year career in the Army. An arresting portrait of a raptor stares down passerby from the lawn signs. In the Republican primary in August, Malloy pulled off a major upset, defeating the more moderately positioned Nolan by a roughly four-point margin, despite her institutional support, campaign fundraising edge and Vermont’s left-leaning politics. Though Nolan won over the endorsement of Vermont’s overwhelmingly popular Gov. Phil Scott, a moderate Republican, Malloy deliberately positioned himself to Nolan’s right. Now, Malloy is up against Welch, who has 15 years of congressional service under his belt and millions in campaign funds stowed away. But even in the bluest state in the nation, Malloy doesn’t think his defeat is a foregone conclusion. ‘Conservative values’ Malloy isn’t just new to politics. He’s relatively new to Vermont. According to property records, Malloy and his wife Stacey, who is also his de facto campaign manager, purchased their home in Perkinsville — which they call “the Lodge” — in 2020, when they moved from Massachusetts to Vermont. Since 2011, Malloy has worked in federal government and defense contracting, and according to financial disclosure forms filed with the U.S. Senate, the Malloys maintain a residence valued between $1 million and $5 million in Baltimore. spent five years working with the Department of Defense’s Defense Coordinating Element, coordinating emergency management operations throughout New England. In 2011, he moved to the private sector, where he currently works in government contracting. He told VTDigger that most of his work is based in the Washington, D.C., area, and he mostly works with the military and the Department of Defense. According to Malloy’s campaign finance disclosures filed in July, he currently works for a Reston, Virginia-based artificial intelligence company called Empower AI, previously known as NCI Information Systems. Empower AI describes itself as “a leading provider of artificial intelligence and other technologies to U.S. government agencies.” He also listed income from UIC Government Services, also known as Bowhead, based in Springfield, Virginia, whose services include avionics, weapons development and more. Malloy told VTDigger that he has also worked for Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. Over the years, Malloy and King have remained close. During a recent visit to Vermont, the two were riding in a car and Malloy confessed to his friend that he was contemplating a career change — but “he didn’t mention anything about politics,” according to King. Later, when King was back home in Minnesota, Malloy told him his decision over the phone. Asked to picture his friend of 42 years working on Capitol Hill, King said, “Well, I know Gerry loves his country. I know that.” King said his friend’s military experience would make him an effective voice on foreign affairs. But Malloy’s biggest asset, he said, is his ideology. “He has strong conservative values, and I think that he’ll work to help this country get turned around and back on a different path that maybe is more welcoming to conservative values than it currently is. I think he’ll be a good representative of Vermonters who have some conservative values,” King said.  Waffling on abortion One of Malloy’s conservative values has become a political minefield for him, as well as dozens of other Republican candidates in competitive races across the country: the issue of abortion. In an interview with NBC5 in June, reporter Stewart Ledbetter pressed Malloy on the question: How would he vote on a nationwide abortion ban, with no exceptions, including in cases in which the mother’s life is in danger? Malloy, who identifies himself as pro-life, dodged until he could no longer. Eventually, he said “I would, I would” vote yes on such a ban if it came up for a vote, but he added that he believed such a bill would be unlikely to reach the Senate floor. the conservative majority of the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade case precedent, which had protected the right to an abortion nationwide for nearly 50 years prior. The question of abortion was punted to the states, many of which immediately outlawed the procedure. It was a decision that Malloy himself heralded. It also brought the country one step closer to a hypothetical nationwide abortion ban bill that Malloy previously deemed improbable. At a VTDigger debate in early September, Malloy was asked once again how he would vote on a nationwide ban, and he walked back his stance from June, saying, “I’d have to look at it.” Less than one week later, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., proposed a nationwide 15-week ban. The Malloy campaign at that time declined to make its candidate available by phone but said in an emailed statement attributed to Malloy, “Per the US Constitution as a US Senator, I will vote to keep abortion issues decided at the state level.” For six days, the Malloy campaign did not answer a followup email asking him to clarify his stance. Then, on Sept. 19, Malloy wrote, “I would vote ‘no’ on a nation wide abortion ban. The Roe v. Wade decision was not decided when I spoke to NBC5 in June.” (A leaked draft of the majority opinion overturning Roe was reported by Politico in May.) Malloy is not the only Republican congressional candidate to have a change of heart on the question of a nationwide ban. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in May that a national abortion ban would be “possible” should Republicans take back Congress, but when Graham introduced his bill in September, McConnell distanced himself from his South Carolina colleague. Graham’s bill left the caucus divided, and on the campaign trail, Republican candidates had scrubbed their websites of anti-abortion pledges. Malloy himself removed a video from his campaign website in which he proclaimed himself to be “proudly pro-life.” The video is still live on the candidate’s Youtube page. “I have always made it very clear that the decision should be left up to states, per the 10th Amendment, and that was what I believed would happen. That is what happened; Roe v. Wade was overturned,” Malloy wrote on Sept. 19. “I am pro life, but I will abide by the US Constitution.” ‘Massive overspending’ Malloy is also echoing Republican candidates around the country and in New England when it comes to his campaign focus on the state of the economy. The cost of living has skyrocketed in recent months, and Malloy is pointing his finger at the Democratic majority’s spending as the culprit. “What’s happened is, frankly, I think that the progressive left has hijacked the Democratic Party — president, control of the House, control of the Senate — and is not representing all Vermonters or all Americans, and have us going in a very bad direction in terms of inflation,” Malloy told VTDigger in October. Malloy went on to allege that Biden’s recent executive actions are unconstitutional, including the White House’s plan to forgive student loan debt for millions of Americans. And he said “massive overspending” by the government in the American Rescue Plan Act, Inflation Reduction Act and CHIPs Act are to blame for out-of-control inflation. As for what he would do about it, Malloy said he would be a voice of opposition to the Democratic’ agenda and a voice for Vermonters who “are ready for change.” told Vermont Public that he voted for the Republican nominee in both 2016 and 2020. In that same interview, he told Vermont Public that he “wished” he had attended the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol, during which a mob of Trump’s supporters infiltrated the halls of Congress in an attempt to halt the peaceful transfer of power. But unlike other Republican congressional candidates throughout the country, Malloy’s allegiance to Trump has some limits. He has not parroted Trump’s baseless claim that the 2020 election was stolen. At VTDigger’s September debate, when asked if Biden legitimately won the last presidential election, Malloy did not hesitate. “Yes,” he answered. In a year in which Vermont is seeing a historic number of open positions in state and federal office, Malloy said he opted to run for the U.S. Senate seat after looking at its political history. Leahy was the first and only Democrat to win one of Vermont’s two seats in the upper chamber (though junior U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent, caucuses with the Democr...

Airline Tickets Increase By 42.9% As Delta Experiences Record Fall Demand – Traveling Lifestyle https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/airline-tickets-increase-by-42-9-as-delta-experiences-record-fall-demand-traveling-lifestyle/ According to Labor Department data issued on Thursday, airfares increased by about 43% compared to the same time last year, a record-breaking rise that topped the department’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. The fastest-growing category was airfare, which was followed by utility bills for gas (33.1%) and eggs (30.5%). Fuel climbed 18.2% to place fourth. The rise in airfares is the result of an unusual trend in which demand has remained high into the fall “shoulder season”, which falls between the busy summer and vacation travel seasons. While business travel is slowly picking up as more people return to their offices, pent-up demand for leisure travel remains strong after nearly two years of closed borders. Glenn Hauenstein, president of Delta Air Lines, mentioned the abnormally high travel demand, particularly to Europe, during a conference call with investors on Thursday. “Demand for trans-Atlantic travel is extending well into the fall,” Hauenstein said. “Starting in October, we anticipate flying more trans-Atlantic capacity than 2019.” According to Hauenstein, this robust demand is expected to continue through the holidays. The airlines’ responses to the numerous operational setbacks during the spring and summer, when carriers reduced capacity to create more headroom in their networks, have hampered travel price increases. While this had the advantage of giving airlines more freedom in dealing with delays and cancelations due to events such as severe weather, it also meant that airlines inadvertently depleted the supply of the system. Prices will naturally rise as long as supply is limited and demand is high. At least through the vacation season, airfares are expected to remain high. According to travel booking company Hopper, prices for Christmas flights are up 55% over last year and 19% over this year, while prices for Thanksgiving flights are 25% higher than last year. However, there are indications that Americans’ holiday plans are starting to be impacted by inflation. According to a recent Bankrate study, 79% of the 43% of American adults who want to travel over the holidays are altering some aspects of their travel arrangements as a result of inflation.

Common Drugs Could Fight Obesity And Diabetes Say Scientists The Guardian
Common Drugs Could Fight Obesity And Diabetes Say Scientists The Guardian
Common Drugs Could Fight Obesity And Diabetes, Say Scientists – The Guardian https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/common-drugs-could-fight-obesity-and-diabetes-say-scientists-the-guardian/ Scientists have pinpointed a range of commonly used medicines that could be repurposed to treat people suffering from obesity and diabetes. The medicines – to be outlined at the International Congress on Obesity in Melbourne this weekend – include treatments for stomach ulcers and heart rhythm disorders and were identified using sophisticated computer programs. “New treatments with high activity and specificity are urgently needed to tackle a pandemic of chronic illness associated with type 2 diabetes and obesity,” said Professor Murray Cairns of the University of Newcastle, in New South Wales, Australia. “Our technology harnesses genetically informed precision medicine to identify and target new treatments for these complex disorders.” Drugs chosen as potential obesity treatments include baclofen, a muscle relaxant, and carfilzomib, a medicine used in chemotherapy. In the case of potential diabetes treatments, the researcher identified palbociclib, which is used to treat breast cancer, and cardiac glycosides, which are used to treat heart failure and heart rhythm disorders. In addition, they identified drugs that had the potential to treat both obesity and diabetes. These included sucralfate, which is used to treat stomach ulcers, and the cancer drug regorafenib. Repurposing existing drugs in order to tackle new conditions is becoming an increasingly attractive option for treating illnesses such as diabetes. The safety of these medicines will have already been studied during their original pharmaceutical trials and so should need less time and cost to bring to market. In addition, older drugs may no longer be subject to patent restrictions and should be cheaper for doctors and hospitals to administer. Cairns and his colleague William Reay studied data about the genetic pathways involved in the development of diabetes and obesity and then used software to compare this information about the pathways that existing drugs take through the human body. They were able to identify existing drugs that could be repurposed to tackle the two conditions. “We wanted to make an impact against these and other complex conditions through the discovery of drugs that target each individual’s genetically encoded biological risk,” said Reay. The possible development of new treatments for diabetes is encouraging because the number of cases has been rising steadily across the world in the past few decades and has been linked to increases in rates of obesity and lack of exercise by individuals “Diabetes and obesity are the major risk factors for dozens of chronic health disorders that contribute to astonishing levels of human morbidity and mortality,” said Reay. In the UK, two-thirds of adults are above a healthy weight and half of these are living with obesity, which is associated with reduced life expectancy and increased rates of cardiovascular disease, liver and respiratory disease and cancer.

Here Is The Latest ACC Sports News From The Associated Press – Kentucky Today https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/here-is-the-latest-acc-sports-news-from-the-associated-press-kentucky-today-3/ DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Drake Maye connected with Antoine Green on the right side of the end zone for an 8-yard score with 16 seconds left to lift North Carolina past rival Duke 38-35 on Saturday night. Maye’s throw capped a nine-play, 74-yard drive for a touchdown that stood on the slimmest of margins. Replays showed Green’s left foot land barely inside the sideline with only a sliver of grass detectable between Green’s foot and the white paint. Officials reviewed the play before declaring the play would stand. Duke had a final chance but Will Hardy made a diving interception on Riley Leonard’s batted pass with 2 seconds left to seal the win. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — DJ Uiagalelei threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns and No. 4 Clemson forced a momentum-turning takeaway to hold off Florida State 34-28. Clemson (7-0, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) scored on six straight drives and surpassed the 30-point mark for a seventh straight game to open the season. Will Shipley had 20 carries for 121 yards and six catches for 48 yards to help the Tigers to their seventh straight victory over the Seminoles. Lawrance Toafili ran for 68 yards and Florida State (4-3, 2-3) accumulated 196 on the ground. Toafili also had six receptions for 45 yards, but the Seminoles dropped their third straight game. SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Garrett Shrader hit Oronde Gadsden II with a pair of touchdown passes, Sean Tucker scored on a 25-yard run late, and No. 18 Syracuse beat No. 15 North Carolina State 24-9 to remain unbeaten and become eligible for the postseason. Syracuse started 6-0 for just the third time since 1935. The Orange took advantage of the absence of the Wolfpack’s injured star quarterback, Devin Leary, who was declared out for the rest of the season before the game. Charleston Southern graduate transfer Jack Chambers replaced Leary but only managed to guide the Wolfpack to three field goals by Christopher Dunn. BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Tyler Van Dyke threw for 351 yards and two touchdowns to lead Miami to a 20-14 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday. Van Dyke, coming off a 496-yard performance in Miami’s loss to North Carolina, threw touchdown passes of 5 yards to Frank Ladson, Jr. and 17 yards to Colbie Young in the first half for the Hurricanes, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Virginia Tech, which has lost four straight, trailed 20-0 before scoring twice in the fourth quarter. SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — North Carolina State quarterback Devin Leary is out for the season. The school says he’ll have surgery next week to repair a torn pectoral muscle. Leary was the Atlantic Coast Conference preseason player of the year. There is no damage to his throwing shoulder and he’s expected to make a full recovery. Leary was injured last week in the No. 15 Wolfpack’s 19-17 victory over Florida State and left the game late in the third quarter. A school official said Leary made the trip to Syracuse for Saturday’s game against he No. 18  Orange. Graduate transfer Jack Chambers will make his first start for the Wolfpack. ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech has hired Alabama administrator J Batt as its athletic director. Batt is charge of the search for a new football coach. Batt was the executive deputy athletics director at Alabama under Greg Byrne. He replaces Todd Stansbury, who was fired on Sept. 26 along with football coach Geoff Collins after the Yellow Jackets started the season 1-3. Collins finished with an overall record of 10-28. UNDATED (AP) — No. 4 Clemson’s trip to Florida State headlines the Atlantic Coast Conference slate for Week 7. Nearly half the league’s teams are on a bye week so the schedule features four division games. That includes No. 15 North Carolina State’s trip to No. 18 Syracuse for a matchup of top defenses. Virginia Tech is facing Miami hoping to end a three-game skid to the Hurricanes. Rivals Duke and North Carolina also meet this week. That game marks an opportunity for more big plays from Tar Heels receiver Josh Downs. UNDATED (AP) — North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye and Syracuse coach Dino Babers headline the list of Atlantic Coast Conference midseason honorees from The Associated Press. Maye was picked as the league’s top offensive player through the season’s first half. He ranks among the national leaders in passing touchdowns. Babers was picked as top coach so far after guiding the 18th-ranked Orange to a 5-0 start. Other honorees included Florida State defensive end Jared Verse as the top first-year transfer and Pittsburgh running back Israel Abanikanda was the league’s most surprising player. Honorees were chosen in voting by AP writers covering league teams. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. And the super metaverse App gives users the ability to track and manage all their assets, NFTs and across all Metaverse environments, measure prices, monitor market capitalization, view clothing or items in different Metaverses, and sell, exchange, or transfer them all on one platform. However, to make this vision a reality, many types of protocols must first be edited and modified to fully support and manage such an application. Byepix does exactly that. In the Byepix tech lab, brilliant web3 engineers have devised a 3-pronged plan to solve problems like scaling, communication, boundary, and incompatibility and to eliminate interoperability challenges preventing Metaverses from being connected. ● Byepix Metaverse Blockchain-Layer 2 Solution It takes part in the Layer 2 Protocol field and serves as the processing brain of the metaverse environments. The metaverse blockchain removes barriers and access restrictions in Metaverse Environments for users. Byepix removes borders and brings all the Metaverse users in the world together. ● Byepix Super Metaverse Protocol (BSMP) Byepix Super Metaverse Protocol spreads to allMetaverse-related internet environments for Metaverse users, collects, processes, performs data and functions that connect users, and establishes inter-network connections. The Super Metaverse Protocol is a Layer 2 cross-chain aggregator that connects all metadata servers and networks into a single Byepix-based ecosystem. When Byepix Metaverse Blockchain is completed, it will merge with Byepix SMP. ● Byepix Super Metaverse Application (BSMA) The Byepix Super Metaverse Application is an application with a user interface design that works using the Byepix Super Metaverse Protocol. Byepix’s Super Metaverse multi-layer integration allows users in all Metaverse environments to manage NFTs and assets, measure prices, track market capitalization, and sell and transfer on a single platform. With the super metaverse Application, you can keep track of and manage all your assets in all the connected Metaverses. Byepix provides users with seamless transitions to experience reality. For example, while using the Ethereum network, you can connect with a friend on the Avalanche network. Byepix’s Team Byepix fields one of the most brilliant teams in the world. A group of exceptionally experienced people came together to improve our world by creating an ideal example, a model for people to experience and actualize in reality. Every detail of this project is rich and ready to expand and thrive even more. It can indeed expand because the basis of this project is very strong. Byepix is consolidating its development path by creating definitive solutions such as Layer 2 Metaverse blockchain, The Byepix Super-Metaverse Protocol (BSMAP) and its application (BSMA). These solutions will be accessible to all projects, including every metaverse and its users. In what phase is this Unique Project now? Byepix is in its ICO Phase, which is going exceptionally well, as it is listed on CMC as one of 3 ICO Projects. Every day, another article about Byepix is published on major business websites such as Bloomberg and BTCnews. Byepix’s members, which Byepix calls the Angel Army of 100.000 supporters on the Byepix Telegram Global, are ready to support and eager to help Byepix overcome any obstacle. Moreover, updates to its platforms and protocols continue to mesmerize blockchain and the metaverse era. How About the INVESTORS, Are they taken care of? Exceptional web3 engineers thought of the supporting investors also. As a result, they have designed the first two revolutionary systems worldwide to ensure that ICO investors have huge profits. How? The groundbreaking BYEPIX Maximum Profit Program (MPP) makes it possible to send $EPIX tokens locked to the users’ wallets through a mutual agreement that the buyer approves by purchasing. This agreement makes the tokens not owner-bound nor buyer-bound but time-bound. Once $EPIX tokens (Governing token of Byepix) are purchased by the buyers, the blockchain allows the sending of the purchased $EPIX tokens to the buyers’ wallets in a secure safe, which opens automatically only when it’s the unlocking date. MPP also has a unique release system that ensures these tokens won’t be released simultaneously into the circulating supply. You may learn more about Byepix MPP by watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_lcWUcBBgc&t=50s $EPIX Tokens will be released with time-bound or limited amount conditions: Circulating supply will be under control, which will eliminate pump-and-dump and enable prices to increase organically so that investors may benefit hugely from their early investments. “The circulating supply remains limited, which means the EPIX price will skyrocket.” Such a smart concept. “ For example, after the first week of Byepix’s listing, there will be only 100k to 120k $EPIX tokens in circulation instead of 5 million. It means within the next 20 days after the listing. The price will definitely be up to $20 and increase upwards. Another way BYEPIX protects investors is ICO STAKING— The first in DeFi history! Byepix’s revolutionary ICO Staking draws a line over the primitive modern-day ICO Systems, which freeze the investors’ funds carelessly with vesting periods and ICO runtimes. And it replaces them with the Byepix ICO staking. “Byepix ICO Staking allows investors to earn returns immediately the moment the $EPIX purchase is completed”— CEO of Byepix. With Byepix MPP, your money does not sleep; it works!” Even though tokens are locked through the MPP, investors can use the Byepix ICO Staking and stake /unstake their tokens freely at a 90% APY rate and make even more profit by increasing the $EPIX tokens they own. We hope this article inspires emerging projects to apply this method to their systems and will become a contribution to compensation for the past losses of many ICO Investors and allow them to trust ICOs again. Says the Byepix team. We will now take $EPIX under the Magnifying glass and review why Epix Price will rise. What Byepix will do to make sure that it does: A. Marketing (40% of ICO investments): We will use 40% of the ICO investments for marketing and introducing Byepix to the rest of the world. B. Social Media Hype with the Mission Platform: We have created a Platform called Byepix Mission, where we design special missions for users to complete and earn money or in-platform and in-game assets as rewards. In these missions, there are tasks to create hype also. C. Buyback: Our tokens are very valuable, so we will buy them back instead of putting more tokens into circulation. D. Burning: This function will help to keep the circulating supply balanced. When the price remains stable, the chance of a price increase is greater. E. Keep Updating and Adapting itself to modern tech: Byepix will add or remove utilities that are needed. What the Byepix Users Will Do Naturally: A. Virtual Lands: Users can purchase lands to invest in that era, but they will first require $EPIX. B. Virtual Life Assets: Users on the Byepix Metaverse will want to decorate their virtual homes and gardens, and they will need $EPIX. C. Game Characters and Assets: Characters and assets in the games will be sold on the Byepix marketplace for $EPIX. D. Marketplace-NFTs: The marketplace will be full of valuable art pieces. Users will need $EPIX to purchase NFTs. E. Staking: Byepix will offer staking opportunities with high APY rates. They will require $EPIX to participate in staking. F. Farming: Again, Byepix will provide farming possibilities at high rates of APR. To participate in farming, they will need to purchase $EPIX. G. Participation in the IDO Launchpad: To participate in some of the listed project presales, users will need to hold/stake $EPIX. H. Prediction and Lottery: Users have to buy $EPIX before using these fun features. I. Portfolio Growth: They will continue to purchase more as prices continuously rise and add more $EPIX to their portfolio. Struggles Come To Make Us Stronger Walterboro Live
Struggles Come To Make Us Stronger Walterboro Live
Struggles Come To Make Us Stronger – Walterboro Live https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/struggles-come-to-make-us-stronger-walterboro-live/ The Word of God informs us in Job 14:1-2 (KJV), “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.” Therefore, it is nothing new to us that struggles will come. If we were to look in the New Testament, we would find there as well that struggles are going to come: “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings…” (I Peter 4:12-13 KJV). The issue here is not just the struggles but more about what to do when struggles come. Struggles are not meant to take us down to rock bottom; they have a purpose. Struggles come to make us stronger. If we do not grow during our struggles, then we are not learning the lesson or fulfilling the purpose. No one is exempt from struggles, and that is clearly illustrated in Job 14:1-2. When struggles come for some, they will pout, cry, and angrily say, “Why is God doing this to me?” God is not doing it to us. He may allow it, but He is not dishing out the struggles. If Jesus Christ, who never harmed man but came and died on an old rugged cross for us to have a right to salvation, then who are we to complain when hardships “throw us for a loop”? When a struggle comes, go into your secret closet and pray to God, asking Him to give you the strength to go through and to come out unscathed. Further, ask Him to lead, guide, and direct you through this maze because you are depending on Him and Him alone. Just this past Sunday in church, I heard a powerful thought-provoking sermon, “It’s Not Over,” (John 11:22-26) preached by a pastor named Dr. Robert Jemerson of San Antonio, Texas. One thought he shared that resonated with me is this: “When you cannot see God’s face, trust God’s grace!” Therefore, know that struggles are going to come, they are real, but don’t give in to them; trust God and the process. Struggles do not come in our lives to make us weaker, but stronger in our faith and witness for Jesus Christ. On a more personal note, my family and I have gone through an arduous test for quite some time now, but guess what, we are still here. Through it all, we have seen “God show up and show out”! Blessings have come to us in so many ways that we never expected. Prayers have been lifted in abundance. Further, I have grown in ways unimaginable. Why? I never gave up on God, and He never gave up on my family and me. Lastly, my testimony has been an inspiration to many. HALLELUJAH! Whenever you face a struggle or a test in your life again, think on this poem by an unnamed author, “Struggles are Exactly What We Need in Our Lives” (Inspire 21): I asked for Strength… and God gave me Difficulties to make me strong. I asked for Wisdom… and God gave me Problems to solve. I asked for Prosperity… and God gave me Brain and Brawn to work. I asked for Courage… and God gave me Danger to overcome. I asked for Love… and God gave me Troubled people to help. I asked for Favors… and God gave me Opportunities. I received nothing I wanted … I received everything I needed! Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!

Space News Weekly Recap: Martian Microbes Black Hole burp And More The Indian Express
Space News Weekly Recap: Martian Microbes, Black Hole ‘burp’, And More – The Indian Express https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/space-news-weekly-recap-martian-microbes-black-hole-burp-and-more-the-indian-express/ According to research published in the journal Nature Astronomy, ancient Mars could have had an environment which was capable of harbouring underground microscopic organisms. Elsewhere, astronomers say they have witnessed a “never seen before” event where a black hole “burped” out stellar material three years after consuming a star. Read about all that and more in our weekly space news recap. Underground Martian microbes Microbes that consume hydrogen and produce methane may have flourished just under the surface of Mars ages ago. Even though Mars may have had the conditions to harbour life once upon a time, researchers believe that these life forms would have altered the atmosphere of the planet so much that they triggered a Martian Ice Age that killed them. The researchers came to this conclusion by using climate and terrain models of Mars’ crust around 4 billion years ago when it is believed that the planet had a lot of water and was more habitable than it is today. In sharp contrast, microbes on Earth may have helped our planet maintain temperate conditions and could have also given it the nitrogen-dominated atmosphere. According to AP, the new research presents a bleak view of life in the cosmos—that even simple lifeforms like microbes could cause their own end if they exist. The black hole was ejecting material at close to half the speed of light. (Image credit Harvard and Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics) Black hole shreds star and burps it out years later A black hole about 650 million light-years away was observed ripping apart a star in 2018. This tidal disruption event (TDE) was just about what you can expect from the crushing gravity of a black hole. But three years later, the same black hole lit up again and spat out stellar matter, without swallowing anything else in the period in between. “This caught us completely by surprise — no one has ever seen anything like this before,” said Yvette Cendes, a research associate at the Harvard and Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics in a press statement, while referring to the black hole. Cendes is a lead author of a research article published in The Astrophysical Journal. NASA’s InSight Mars lander took this image, its “final selfie,” on April 24, 2022. (Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech) InSight Mars lander stuck in dust storm NASA’s InSight lander, which was already on its last legs, suffered a significant drop in solar power after it got stuck in a continent-sized dust storm that is swirling over Mars. NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter first spotted the storm on September 21 this year. One the plus side, the lander’s primary mission has already been completed and it is currently conducting “bonus science.” NASA’s InSight team estimates that the mission will come to an end sometime between October this year and January 2023. CAPSTONE team members later successfully completed an operation that stopped it from spinning. The purpose of the CAPSTONE is to test a unique elliptical lunar orbit. The orbit, called a near rectilinear halo orbit (NRHO) is very elongated and its location is at a precise balance point in the gravities of the Earth and the Moon. The mission is aimed at reducing risks for future spaceflight by validating new technologies and verifying this orbit. (Image credit: Wang Jiangbo/Xinhua) Chinese solar observatory China launched its Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S), nicknamed Kuafu-1, on October 9, according to Chinese state-run media outlet Xinhua. Since then, the observatory has entered its planned orbit. According to the journal Nature, the observatory has three instruments on board that will help scientists understand how the Sun’s magnetic field causes coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and other eruptions. NASA has announced that the DART spacecraft was successful in its objective. Here is what is next for humanity’s first planetary defence test. (Image credit: NOIRLab) NASA’s DART success The American space agency confirmed that its DART spacecraft successfully managed to change the motion of the asteroid Dimoprhos by crashing into it. The mission was the first demonstration of the “kinetic impactor” method of asteroid mitigation. Before the crash, Dimorphos took about 11 hours and 55 minutes to orbit the larger asteroid Didymos. DART’s impact shortened this orbit by 32 minutes, with it now taking 11 hours and 23 minutes to orbit the larger asteroid. The sixth Epsilon solid-fuel rocket lifts off from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)’s Uchinoura Space Center in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Kagoshima, Japan October 12, 2022, in this photo taken by Kyodo. (Kyodo via REUTERS) Japan’s rocket fails Japan’s rocket carrying eight satellites failed just after liftoff on Wednesday and it had to be aborted by a self-destruction command, according to AP. The Epsilon-6 rocket had to be aborted because it was not in the right position to orbit around the Earth. It was the first time that a JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) rocket failed since the space agency’s H2A rocket failed in 2003. It was also the first time that an Epsilon rocket carried commercially developed payloads. NASA Artemis 1: The mission will launch from Launch Complex 39B at the Kennedy Space Centre. This image of the SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft was taken on September 26, 2022. (Image credit; NASA/Joel Kowsky) Artemis 1 set for November 15 launch NASA plans to launch the Artemis 1 mission during a launch window that starts at 12.07 AM EST (9.37 AM IST) on November 14. If the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket launches successfully, the Orion spacecraft will go around the Moon and come back to the Earth in what will be the first in a series of missions designed to send humans back to Earth’s lone natural satellite. Two previous launch attempts had to be abandoned after NASA faced many issues during the countdown. The first attempt had to be scrubbed because of an issue with one of the four RS-25 engines that are part of SLS’s core stage. The second launch attempt had to be scrubbed because of a hydrogen leak that popped up when the agency was fuelling the rocket. The unique rings captured by the Webb telescope originated from a rare pair of stars about 5,000 light years away. (Image credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, JPL-Caltech) Webb captures curious concentric rings The latest image from the James Webb Space Telescope shows a set of concentric dust rings that were emitted by a pair of stars that are over 5,000 light years away from our planet. The pair of stars is named Wolf-Rayet 140. When these two stars come together, their stellar winds—streams of gas and dust— meet and compress the gas, creating dust in the process. The orbit of the stars brings them together about once every eight years. This means that the concentric rings mark the passage of time, just like growth rings on trees. #SolarOrbiter is making a close approach of the Sun NOW! The colours in the images were added artificially because the original wavelength of the light is invisible to the human eye. Experts Discuss Pandemic Effects On US Travel Industry Las Vegas Review-Journal
Experts Discuss Pandemic Effects On US Travel Industry Las Vegas Review-Journal
Experts Discuss Pandemic Effects On US Travel Industry – Las Vegas Review-Journal https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/experts-discuss-pandemic-effects-on-us-travel-industry-las-vegas-review-journal/ ATLANTA — Practically every industry in America was impacted by the pandemic, but tourism was among the hardest hit as travel all but evaporated. The industry has since roared back to life, including in Las Vegas, though it still hasn’t recouped all of the business it lost. A panel of industry professionals gave their take on hotel sales and development, travel and other issues last week at the National Association of Real Estate Editors conference in Atlanta. The Review-Journal moderated the discussion with Charlotte Kang, national practice lead for hotels and hospitality at real estate brokerage Jones Lang LaSalle; Michael Ritz, senior vice president of investments at Peachtree Hotel Group; Ben Brunt, chief investment officer at Noble Investment Group; and T.Jack Bagby, principal at architecture and design firm Cooper Carry. This conversation has been edited for length and clarity. Review-Journal: The first thing I want to talk about is the pandemic’s impact on travel, tourism, conventions and the hotel real estate market. Take us back to those scary days in spring 2020 when basically the economy shut off and travel stopped. Brunt: We had a portfolio of roughly 50 assets when the pandemic started; we went to 2 (percent) to 5 percent occupancy across our portfolio in April of ’20. It’s kind of a blur to look back on that period of time. We were all looking for the traveling nurses, government-related demand, anything that would generate revenue for our hotels. Most of our assets had 35 to 50 employees, each hotel went down to a skeleton crew of about three to six people. It was a very difficult working environment for all of those folks. The person that was checking you in was likely cleaning your room as well as doing the laundry and doing whatever food prep was out there. (At the corporate level,) we certainly had a lot to manage. You had to modify every single loan; we chose to participate in some PPP loans. So there was a lot of paperwork, loan work, investor calls, you name it. Charlotte, can you talk about the pipeline of sales and what happened to all the deals that were in the works around the country when the pandemic hit? Kang: It was a very scary time. Sales that were in negotiation did get delayed, but we did see some sales that were far along enough that took place. But at the time, everybody was trying to understand what’s going on and how does the industry — as owners, lenders and operators — prepare for what might be coming. It was not until later, where there’s vaccine coming to roll out, we saw pockets of areas, especially areas that opened up for travel, where transactions started to take place. Did you and your team even attempt to do valuations at that time when hotels were closed and nobody was going on vacation? Kang: We certainly attempted to; our clients were asking us to do that. I was on the phone every day — almost felt like every hour, every half-hour — and our job was trying to get as much consensus as possible from market participants and try to get the information: If you were to buy the property today, what are you willing to pay? Ritz: Ninety percent of our company became an asset management practice, where we were trying to communicate to all of our lenders, our investors, keep everybody in the know and also be on the receiving side of that. One thing that was a little bit different was the other 10 percent of our team became capital markets, and we raised money. Fears were growing, people were liquidating their positions in the equity markets, trying to harbor cash. No one knew what the future of their investments looked like. Our principals founded the company in 2008 on buying distressed debt and saw an opportunity to potentially buy distressed debt and get into assets at lower valuations. We ended up spending about a billion and a half dollars through 2020 and mid-2021 buying hotels, doing bridge loans, construction loans. Basically while the market was turned off, we were trying to place capital in a dislocated environment. T.Jack, can you talk about your industry? Did bids disappear for work in hotels, or were you seeing hotel owners looking to change the interior to accommodate what was going on with COVID, like add new HVAC systems? Bagby: Around April of 2020, I would say that about 60, 65 percent of all of our jobs that were on boards went on hold. There were individuals and family investment groups who were trying to time the market, and some came to us looking to try to start design work. But for the most part, the industry really did dry up. Last year, record-low mortgage rates fueled a homebuying frenzy across the country. With tourism climbing back in 2021 and cheap money widely available, was there a similar surge in hotel purchases last year? Brunt: Yes, there was a significant amount of transaction activity starting at the beginning of 2021 through at least the first quarter of ’22. The transaction environment was really fueled by the ability to forecast, and certainly interest rates were at an all-time low, and lenders were eager to get back in the game, so that did spark a lot of transactions. Can you talk about how the sharp jump in interest rates this year has impacted hotel construction financing or hotel sales? Kang: For assets that are very good quality, in very good locations, we are still seeing very strong interest from buyers. If you have an asset that is well located with strong fundamentals in a strong economic environment, those are very resilient so far. Can you also talk about the pipeline of hotel construction that we’re seeing around the country, especially how it compares to the years leading up to the pandemic? Brunt: What I’ve recently read, and this is through Lodging Econometrics, a New Hampshire-based group that follows new construction, what they’re reporting is construction starts are down 40 percent versus the same period in ’19. Whether it is some combination of interest rates but also a significant piece is inflation and the overall cost to build. When you combine that in a supply chain-challenged environment, it does make it more difficult to build. Bagby: The supply chain is a portion of it when it comes to construction costs, but it’s also the labor. You’re seeing a significant shortage in skilled tradesmen, such that the ability to schedule subcontractors on jobs is becoming more and more difficult, and so the price of course is going up. Though we may figure out the supply chain issues, I’m not sure that we’re going to figure out the labor issue very quickly. Kang: Debt financing is also harder to get. Ritz: And will only get harder. Why is that? Ritz: Elevated rates. The Federal Reserve is committed to bringing down inflation, getting the economy to cool down. If they continue to, and they’re successful, then we should see elevated rates. Those rates, as they continue to go up, the cost of capital for debt providers and debt users needs to go up in tandem. We’re getting to a point where the cost of debt is approaching the cost of equity, and then deals don’t pencil. So that’s kind of when you get a spigot that just turns off. How has the pandemic affected interior hotel layouts or the guts of a hotel? Bagby: Some of the only lingering effects we’ve seen from COVID are this emphasis on wellness. It started pre-pandemic, but it really hit a boost with the pandemic. This idea of working into the hotel more connection to the outdoors, whether it’s bringing the outdoors in through greenery or more windows, or having physical outdoor space. We’ve seen more outdoor lounge areas, outdoor meeting spaces, trying to also maximize the use of spaces around the hotel, realizing they can monetize those areas. How is domestic travel doing in the U.S., and how does leisure travel compare to conventions, which at least in Las Vegas took longer to re-emerge from the pandemic. Ritz: I think a lot of our eyes are on the business traveler. It was such a big piece of our revenue streams prior to COVID. Return-to-office is a huge conversation, but to what extent does business travel really come back? It’s come back a little bit quicker than anybody anticipated, but it’s not necessarily the huge consulting firms that everybody thinks are back on the roads. It’s the smaller, hungry, new startup businesses — it’s two people on the road, not eight, but there might be six groups of them going to compete for that business and get in front of one of their potential new clients and have a face-to-face interaction. New AI-Based Study Suggests Unhappiness Could ‘Age’ Some People More Than Smoking – ScienceAlert https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/new-ai-based-study-suggests-unhappiness-could-age-some-people-more-than-smoking-sciencealert/ Scientists around the world are trying to use artificial intelligence to create a new type of ‘clock’ that can measure your true biological age. A recent attempt added psychological factors to the mix and made some intriguing predictions. The initial tests suggest that the impact of mental ill health could, at times, outweigh those of physical diseases and habits, including smoking. Chronological age is based on how many years are tucked under your belt, but just because two people have celebrated the same number of birthdays doesn’t mean they are equally healthy. By measuring certain aspects of a person’s physical health, like the gut’s microbiome or inflammation markers in the blood, researchers hope to one day predict how ‘young’ or ‘old’ someone is in biological years. If the forecast is accurate, it could help experts understand why some individuals age faster than others and what lifestyle factors contribute to that aging process. But there’s a key component of human health that’s been missing from previous clock-winding attempts: our mental and emotional state. In 2021, a decades-long study among 2.3 million New Zealanders found a strong association between mental disorders and the onset of physical disease and death. Another study that same year found that a history of mental health issues was associated with accelerated aging in midlife. What’s more, this aging effect occurred many years before other age-related diseases tend to pop up. With these findings in mind, researchers in the United States and Hong Kong designed a computer algorithm to create a new aging clock that incorporates several psychological health factors and blood biomarkers. They trained the algorithm on data from nearly 5,000 healthy adults in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) dataset, which only includes participants 45 or older, and then tested it on data from another 7,000 people. This is the first time researchers have trained an aging clock exclusively on such a large Chinese cohort (most studies are done in Western populations), and it’s also among the first to incorporate mental health stressors. Ultimately, the authors found psychological factors, such as feeling unhappy or lonely, added up to 1.65 years to a person’s biological age. The effect exceeded other individual demographic characteristics, including biological sex, living area, marital status, and smoking status. “We conclude that the psychological component should not be ignored in aging studies due to its significant impact on biological age,” the authors write. Deep Longevity, a publicly-traded company investing in deep aging clocks, funded the study. This latest attempt incorporates physical information on 16 blood factors – including cholesterol levels – as well as BMI, waist circumference, and blood pressure. The participants’ psychological well-being data were based on eight feelings: bothered, lonely, unhappy, unfocused, restless, depressed, hopeless, or fearful. This is a simplified version of mental health, but if anything, that would make the predictions of the biological clock more conservative. When the clock was tested specifically on sick individuals, including those living with cancer, heart disease, liver disease, lung disease, or stroke, it accurately predicted that they were older than their counterparts in the main, healthy cohort. But the effect of these conditions on predicted age did not exceed 1.5 years. That’s slightly less than the aggregate impact of all the psychological variables put together, which accelerated aging by 1.65 years, according to the algorithm. Smoking, meanwhile, added about 1.25 years of aging on its own. This doesn’t mean that the algorithm found smoking less of a risk to health than depression or loneliness; smoking remains one of the leading risk factors for many cancers and heart disease. But based on the clock’s predictions, it may be that if an unmarried person (which adds 0.59 years of aging) rarely feels happy (adds 0.35 years), often feels hopeless (adds 0.28 years), and is having trouble sleeping (adds 0.44 years), that might have a bigger impact on their health than smoking on its own. The authors say their results demonstrate that the “detrimental impact of low psychological well-being is of the same magnitude as serious diseases and smoking”. “Thus,” they conclude, “promoting mental health may be considered a potential anti-aging intervention with possible benefits [on] par with more tangible, physical therapeutic approaches.” The study was published in the journal Aging.

(AP) — Dillon Gabriel passed for 403 yards and Oklahoma defeated No. 19 Kansas 52-42 to end its losing skid at three games. Eric Gray ran for 176 yards, Marvin Mims had a career-high nine catches for 106 yards and Brayden Willis had five catches for a career-best 102 yards for the Sooners.  It was Oklahoma’s 18th straight win over Kansas. The Sooners haven’t lost to the Jayhawks since 1997. Jason Bean passed for 265 yards and four touchdowns for Kansas. Lawrence Arnold had 113 yards and two touchdowns receiving and Mason Fairchild had 106 yards and two touchdowns receiving for the Jayhawks. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Quinn Ewers threw for three touchdowns including the go-ahead score with less than five minutes remaining as No. 22 Texas rallied to defeat Iowa State 24-21 on Saturday. The Longhorns trailed 21-17 when Ewers connected with Xavier Worthy to put Texas up for good. The Cyclones drove to the Texas 28 before linebacker Jaylan Ford recovered a fumble by quarterback Hunter Dekkers with 2:28 to play. Moments earlier, it looked like Iowa State might go back in front but receiver Xavier Hutchinson dropped a pass inside the Texas 10. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Casey Legg kicked a 22-yard field goal with 33 seconds left to lift West Virginia to a 43-40 victory over Baylor. West Virginia’s Tony Mathis scored on a 34-yard run with 7:05 left and set up the winning field goal with a 37-yard run to the Baylor 8. Mathis finished with a career-high 163 rushing yards Thursday night. Baylor had one last chance starting from its 23-yard line. But backup quarterback Kyron Drones threw two incompletions and he was tackled near midfield on a scramble as time ran out. Drones came on in relief of Blake Shapen, who was injured on a helmet-to-helmet hit in the third quarter and did not return. FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Kendre Miller scored on a 2-yard run in the second overtime and 13th-ranked TCU beat No. 8 Oklahoma State 43-40 in a matchup of the Big 12′s last remaining undefeated teams. Fans stormed the field after Miller got into the end zone for the 6-0 Horned Frogs, who had gone into the fourth quarter trailing by two touchdowns. The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime. Oklahoma State got the ball to start the second overtime, but after a holding penalty and three incomplete passes in a row, the Cowboys had to settle for Tanner Brown’s fourth field goal, a 52-yarder. NEW YORK (AP) — The Big 12 Conference has come back from the brink. Last summer, it was sent reeling when Oklahoma and Texas said they will be leaving for the Southeastern Conference. New Commissioner Brett Yormark is trying to rebuild the Big 12’s brand. He wants to set a new narrative for a league known for years of instability. For now, things are going well: Half of the Big 12’s football teams are ranked the AP Top 25. It has also had a team in the men’s Final Four every year since 2018 — and won the national title two years in a row. NEW YORK (AP) — Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark says he has had “meaningful” conversations with ESPN and Fox as the conference explores striking a media rights deal almost two years before the current contract expires. The Big 12 announced in late August it planned to engage ESPN and Fox, even though the exclusive negotiating window between the conference and the networks does not open until February 2024. The Big 12′s deals with the networks expire in June of that year. Yormark says there is no timetable for the discussions to produce a deal. He says ESPN and Fox would be the two best partners to boost the Big 12 brand. FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Max Duggan has gone from losing his job as TCU’s starting quarterback to being one of the nation’s best passers. He is exceling in coach Sonny Dykes’ system after the new coaching staff initially went with a different starter than the guy who started most of the past three seasons. Duggan has thrown for 1,305 yards and a Big 12-best 14 touchdowns with one interception. Redshirt freshman Chandler Morris started the opener before getting hurt. Dykes says he has been impressed with how Duggan has handled the entire situation. Duggan says he was initially disappointed but never felt sorry for himself. UNDATED (AP) — The Big 12 will be down to one undefeated team after eighth-ranked Oklahoma State plays at No. 13 TCU this weekend. Both teams are 5-0. The winner joins idle No. 17 Kansas State at 3-0 in Big 12 play. No. 22 Texas is home against Iowa State, while Kansas plays at Oklahoma. Baylor and West Virginia meet Thursday night in Morgantown. Texas Tech joins Kansas State having an open date. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

Colorado-California Quotes – University Of Colorado Athletics – CUBuffs.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/colorado-california-quotes-university-of-colorado-athletics-cubuffs-com/ Colorado Interim Head Coach Mike Sanford   Opening Statement “This is all for the players and all about the players. This is all about their response, their resolve, all of the stud that I said here ten days ago, everyone thought I was crazy. We talked about how unbelievable of a group of resilient fighters that we have in our locker room. I think everybody had a chance to see that on full display today. I’m just really proud of these players. I told them after the game, that’s a great moment. It’s a moment we’re going to celebrate but we talked about a fresh season, a new season. What I told them is that the best part about being 1-0 which we are in our new season, post bye week is that you have a chance to be 2-0 and that’s where our attention turns 24 hours from now. We’re going to get back to work tomorrow and we’re going to practice we’re going to add some Sunday work and we’ve just got to keep our eyes straight ahead. Enjoy this, it’s one of those days that you’ll never forget, but at the end of the day, we’ve got a job to do and we believe in our abilities to go do that and that’s where eyes are going to be fixated.”   On Deion Smith’s Injury “I just wanted to first off address Deion Smith’s health. That was that was an emotional moment and more importantly, we’ve said that this thing is going to be all about our players, our student athletes and there’s positive updates on Deion’s status. He’s standing up and walking around so a lot of the fears that everybody has when somebody comes off on a stretcher, I think that I was able to assure that the team that that’s nothing that that we have to be concerned with. Deion is up and walking and I think he was emotional because he didn’t have a chance to celebrate on the field with his teammates, but he was a huge part of that victory, both in his play and more importantly, just how much this team loves him and shows their support for him there. That was a moment I’ll never forget in my coaching career, just the brotherhood that was shown through that moment.”   On the students rushing the field “This week was really interesting. I think starting back on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, the bye week, there was so much work that had to be done and I think I just buried myself in the work and then I had a chance to go recruiting in California, that’s where I’m from. A lot of our players had a chance to touch base at home and reconnect with their roots. The joy of football. For me, it was at Los Alamitos High School. I was down in Southern California and there was some really clear thinking that I was able to do with regards to where I wanted this program to go this coming game week, and in doing so, It was weird over the course from really Thursday on I’ve had, I would call them dreams or whatever. I actually dreamt specifically about the student section rushing in the field and I really believed it. I know it sounds crazy, but I really believe that. I had visions in that light sleep, I had visions of Montana (Lemonious-Craig) making plays. I’m not obviously saying I’m a prophet, but there were just a lot of visions of guys making plays and I told the players about that. That wasn’t just a motivational tactic, I saw that. My wife was asking me this morning, why are you not nervous? I was like, I just believe in these players. I believe in the work they’re putting in and I had a peace about what we could do today and I also have a peace about what we can do going forward. I’m just really excited to go back to work with these players and for them to understand that the process that we put in place, process is always going to be greater than results and what they believe in now is that the process yielded a result? That’s what this thing is about going forward is how we practice, how we go about our business on a daily life, how we care for a locker room. Those things are really important and that process has to continue.”   On Gerald Chapman and the defense “I believed in in Gerald and Rick George believed in Gerald. I knew that I believed in him because most importantly, this is about the players. I knew that they were going to rally behind him and then I knew that that our defensive staff was going to work together tirelessly to put our players in the best position and do so on a unified front and that’s what we saw. It was a blast beyond the defensive headsets. I just can’t imagine calling my first defensive game ever. I don’t even know if he’s called the scrimmage before but with that type of atmosphere, sold out Folsom. There was a lot of crowd noise. There were times I was trying to get the crowd to quiet down because the defense communication. I was listening on the headset and it felt like you were out driving out east to Frederick where I live and getting the AM signal. I was just proud of most importantly, how our players played, how they flew around, the belief, you saw it, it was tangible. I’ve known that was there since I got here in January. I looked at our defensive squad and I was like, we have some dudes here. We have Jamar Montgomery and Guy Thomas. These are guys that I knew had the ability to make plays. Na’im Rodman, the linebackers Quinn Perry, T Lang (Terrance Lang), Chance Main. I see these guys, these are guys that I’ve coached against these types of body types and athletes that I’ve coached against, at the highest level of my career. I knew that these players were capable of doing that. It was just flipping the script in terms of their belief.”   On Players’ spirit It’s kind of been an internal thing this week, because, you know, the word joy is and probably isn’t the most football centric term. You know, it doesn’t really equate to, hard hits and tackles for loss and in passing touchdowns, but we established it on the first day that we met, and we said that for these next seven weeks, our culture is gonna be defined as joy. And that’s exactly what we’ve we’ve made the mission of what this net means next week. are about. I said it when I was had the opportunity to have this press conference, this isn’t about me. This is about them. And joy is something and I’ve talked to the players and teaching them the different levels and different definitions of what joy means. But joy is something that is completely independent of your circumstances. It’s how you wake up every single morning, it’s how you come to this facility. It’s how we practice and and I’ve seen a team that bought into that vision and we got to continue to bind to that vision. And this is a new challenge, you know, for us in this 2022 season it is how do we bring joy, but also humility after a big win? That’s the challenge and already in the locker room we move on to Oregon State”   ON OWEN Owen took a pretty significant hit. I want to say it was in either the first or second quarter. It was one of those kind of of abdominal lower kind of mid mid section type hits. And, you know, I’ve played the position I’ve been around the position my whole life. I kind of knew what he was physically going through. And I you know, for me, I just felt like it gave our offense the chance of having a healthy JT you know play in that moment. Owen and had nothing to do with the play. I thought both players played exceptionally well.”   On Hyping Up the Team “I grew a son of a college football coach that coached some of the best programs in America and I love the traditions of football. I love the pomp and circumstance, the stuff that predates you know my time on even Earth. And so that was really important, but I also felt like the Buff walk was kind of anticlimactic. I wanted to have some type of moment where we could all come together and envision visualize what we’re going to do on that field. And I wanted to show the team  the images on that screen of what they’ve done, of the culture of joy of being on that screen of how we’ve practiced. Then also showing them the plays that we’ve made this year. You know, the plays to win football games. We just haven’t pieced it together. And I think that I saw that today. And I think that that was one piece of it. But really at the end of the day, it has nothing to do with me hitting the right buttons. It has everything to do with the players and how they played and I fully believe that.”   On Complete Passes “I think that it was a belief. I think what we saw in practice all week and during the bye week is very competitive. I kept talking about how we had very competitive periods. When we were going against Cal’s defense it was hard. And that’s a good thing. Like when you can face a defense daily. That’s tough to move the football against as an offense. That helps you. It’s like it’s like a doughnut on the back. Right. I felt like we were swinging with a doughnut on the bat. We stepped in the batter’s box, shut the doughnut, and we could go out and play ball. And that’s exactly what how championship football teams operate, is that it should feel very challenging against your own defense in practice, and then you get to game day and it’s easier now. It wasn’t easy Cals a good defense. They don’t give up a whole lot of points minus one game.”   On Taylor’s Interception It was huge. He was huge and you know, I don’t know if you guys know but the song that plays after every turnover, that’s what we do in practice. So they have the players have a turnover song, takeaway song for the defense. So that that that song it was it was so awesome, Jalen Sami brought his little you know, Bluetooth speaker to the walkthrough and during the walkthrough this morning, he had that song played over and over and over because, you know, we associate that song with getting the ball and that set the tone for us defensively, and I think it sets the tone for the energy of the crowd...

Uniglo.io (GLO), Cosmos (ATOM), Cardano (ADA) And Avalanche (AVAX) Could Be The Next Millionaire Cryptos – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/uniglo-io-glo-cosmos-atom-cardano-ada-and-avalanche-avax-could-be-the-next-millionaire-cryptos-cryptonews/ Bitcoin (BTC) and other virtual currencies have been around for years, but it wasn’t until 2017 that they really took off. The value of Bitcoin soared from around $1,000 in January to almost $20,000 by December, and other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Ripple saw similar gains. This newfound wealth has created a new class of crypto millionaires.  While the average person is still trying to wrap their head around cryptocurrency, these new millionaires are busy figuring out how to best spend and invest their newfound wealth.  Some invest in other digital currencies, while others use their crypto millions to buy luxury goods and services. Uniglo (GLO), Cosmos (ATOM), Cardano (ADA) and Avalanche (AVAX) are expert-recommended gems with the potential to shape new crypto millionaires for the world. What’s holding you back? Uniglo (GLO) Uniglo (GLO) is a brand-new ERC-20 token getting ready to launch on November 19. Social currency built on an asset-backing structure gives the project the reason to shine.  Uniglo has a unique burn mechanism to enhance the protocol and user ecosystem. Under their 10% tax model, the Glo foundation has a burn rate of 2%. 2% of each purchase or sell transaction of the $GLO token is automatically transferred to a burn address, removing it from circulation indefinitely.  In contrast to the present monetary system, this decreases the supply of $GLO tokens forever, generating a naturally deflationary environment.  Cosmos (ATOM) Moving ahead, Cosmos (ATOM) will be an essential participant and component in the blockchain realm. Cosmos presents a network of blockchains and enables the transfer of assets and data across distinct blockchains. The current adversarial nature of the digital asset market is underscored by the names given to layer one initiatives, such as “Ethereum Killers.”  Multi-chain is the future, and the interoperability of sovereign blockchains will be crucial to the success of blockchain as a whole. Cardano (ADA) Cardano (ADA) is a network that has repeatedly shown its value. The Cardano network, created under the direction of Charles Hoskinson, is a prime example of blockchain architecture.  Following the Alonzo hard fork, Cardano continues to deploy hundreds of smart contracts on its network. Due to the forthcoming Vasil hard fork, which will result in a massive revamp of the network’s scalability, the price of ADA is expected to skyrocket in the following months and beyond. Avalanche (AVAX) A few years ago, Avalanche (AVAX) was presented as a blockchain transaction processor and data storage solution. It is a platform that provides blockchain developers with hosting services and handles the launching of DeFi. Avalanche (AVAX), which is mostly interoperable with Ethereum, is distinguished by its rapid transaction speeds.  Avalanche (AVAX) might be a highly valuable token due to the strong demand for its usefulness, which arises from the fact that it is a component of several ecosystems.  Avalanche (AVAX) blockchain also utilizes smart contracts to facilitate various DeFi initiatives. AVAX coin is used to pay transaction fees and safeguard the Avalanche network. Bottom Line While cryptocurrencies have been around for a while, their potential to make new millionaires remains largely untapped. With the recent surge in popularity and media attention, more and more people are beginning to invest in Uniglo (GLO), Cosmos (ATOM), Cardano (ADA) and Avalanche (AVAX). Biden Calls Testimony, Video From Jan. 6 Committee Hearing ‘devastating’ – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/biden-calls-testimony-video-from-jan-6-committee-hearing-devastating-reuters/ U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi are seen on the screen making calls from a secure location on January 6, 2021, in a video shown by the U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol during the committee’s public hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., October 13, 2022. Jabin Botsford/Pool via REUTERS/File Photo PORTLAND, Oregon, Oct 15 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden described as “devastating” testimony and video from a Jan. 6 committee hearing two days ago, featuring congressional leaders in tense phone calls with Pentagon and White House officials during the assault on the U.S. Capitol. Biden was speaking to reporters during a stop at an ice cream shop in Oregon as he campaigned for Tina Kotek, who is running for governor of the state. “I think it’s been devastating,” Biden said when asked about the latest hearing. “The case has been made, it seems to me, fairly overwhelming.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Biden said he had been going out of his way not to comment on the proceedings. “Any more I say about it, you … are going to ask me if I’m trying to influence the attorney general. I’m not. I’ve not spoken with him at all,” Biden said, referring to Attorney General Merrick Garland, whose Justice Department has the authority to pursue criminal charges related to the Capitol attack. Some of the video footage came from the family of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi present at the Capitol that day. One of the clips showed the California Democrat in a call with Republican Vice President Mike Pence. “When I spoke to him, I said, ‘I’m so afraid for you to be in the Capitol still,'” Pelosi said on Saturday during remarks at a San Francisco community farming event. Pence responded that the Secret Service thought more attention would be drawn if he and his entourage left the Capitol, Pelosi said. “Lord knows what might have happened if that entourage went out there,” she added. The House committee probing the Jan. 6, 2021, attack by Donald Trump’s supporters voted unanimously on Thursday to subpoena the former president, a move that could lead to criminal charges if he does not comply. The hearing followed eight others earlier this year and one in July 2021. There were no live witnesses on Thursday, but the panel presented videotaped testimony to build a case that Trump’s efforts to overturn his November 2020 presidential election defeat constituted illegal conduct far beyond normal politics. The committee’s vote on Thursday may have been its last public action before the Nov. 8 congressional elections that will determine whether Biden’s Democrats continue to control the House and Senate. The spacious main compartment can fit a 13-inch laptop and still have room leftover to accommodate all of your other gadgets and essentials, according to travelers. Plus, it also doubles as a very stylish everyday bag. “I bought it mainly for airline travel and it fit everything!” raved a buyer. “Headphones, extra socks, phone, makeup case, passport holder, wallet and even zipped up.“ A customer that took a four-day vacation to Disney World added, “This bag fit my normal purse items: phone, wallet, sunglasses, keys; and also fit five water bottles, masks, souvenirs, snacks, and everything else that I ended up carrying during the trip.”  Amazon To buy: amazon.com, $42 (originally $62) In addition to the two zippered interior pockets and the extra zippered exterior pocket, there’s also a zipper that runs along the top of the bag so you can secure everything inside with ease. GEPA Appeals To Men To Participate In Sheanut Picking Ghana Business News
GEPA Appeals To Men To Participate In Sheanut Picking Ghana Business News
GEPA Appeals To Men To Participate In Sheanut Picking – Ghana Business News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/gepa-appeals-to-men-to-participate-in-sheanut-picking-ghana-business-news/ Mr Samuel Dentu, a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), has appealed to men to keenly participate in the picking and gathering of sheanuts during the harvesting seasons. He said it had come to the notice of the GEPA that the picking and gathering of the sheanuts, which was needed internationally, was left under the care of women alone, resulting in loss of huge quantities in the bush. He explained that even though the picking of sheanuts was a traditional practice for women alone in the past, once it was not a taboo, men should change their mindset and participate in the collection of the nuts to boost export of the commodity. “We are looking for how to increase the quantities and volumes of the commodity to get our balance of trade in a good shape as well as help improve our export earners and the strengthening of the Cedi against the dollar to help sustain the economy for development,” he added. Mr Dentu was responding to questions from the media during an interview session, after a workshop on the National Export Development Strategy (NEDS) and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) organised in Wa. He said the GEPA, together with other government institutions were in the process of persuading and encouraging private business entities that were into importing goods and services to consider investing in the processing of nontraditional commodities to add more value to them for export rather than importing them. He called on the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council and other relevant organisations to start a conversation against the felling of valuable trees, especially the shea for charcoal and fuel wood purposes. Alhaji Tahiru Issahaku Moomin, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, in a speech read on his behalf, said the Wa Municipal Assembly was to support at least two women groups in the municipality to establish agro processing businesses under its “one area, one product” project. “The assembly would also make funds available for the training of weavers, shea butter processors and rice millers on the product value addition to meet international standards,” he said. He said the assembly’s initiative was to get the municipality on the path of prosperity through the expansion of export commodities base and the enhancement of industrialisation development. Mr Moomin said the assembly’s plan will fit well into the government’s policy to enable value addition, business expansion and create jobs as well as promote entrepreneurial development of the youth across the country. This, he said, would also help to accelerate the industrial transformation agenda by building substitution and exports diversification to earn more foreign exchange for development. The 40 potential exporters who were into shea butter and soybean processing were drawn from the Wa Municipal, Wa East and Wa Districts and introduced to the NEDS, and the AfCFTA implementation in Ghana: Status and way forward. The workshop was aimed to expand the supply base and ensure the promotion of vigorous value addition of products and regulate the business environment, as well as build the capacity of processors and producers involved in nontraditional export transactions. Its ultimate objective of the NEDS was to support the government’s initiative of revitalising the economy through transformation from a raw material-based economy into an industrialized export-led one.
