Ballerific Travel: Vacation Planning Tips To Help Your Trip Finally Make It Out Of The Group Chat – Balleralert.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ballerific-travel-vacation-planning-tips-to-help-your-trip-finally-make-it-out-of-the-group-chat-balleralert-com/
Traveling in a large pack seldomly works out. A group chat of 15 can quickly dwindle to 2 or 3 when it’s time to board the plane.
No matter how much proper planning goes into a trip, it’s hard to keep people on the same page, whether it’s money problems, timing issues, or disagreements. There are many reasons a group trip doesn’t go as planned.
But don’t sweat because it’s possible to get the trip from the group text achieved using these helpful tips.
Have a designated person for the whole trip or certain parts of it. If one person is willing to handle everything, that’s great. Or if each person is assigned to take a particular area, that can work too. For example, someone can be in charge of the hotel, another for the flights, and another for excursions. This assigns a point of contact so there is no confusion among the group.
Agree on a budget. Everyone will have a different amount of money they feel comfortable spending on the trip. Everyone should weigh in on a reasonable amount they want to spend and then compromise and adjust their travel plans to include everyone. Everyone’s pockets aren’t the same, and it’s not uncommon for people to back out because of financial woes. Having a budget everyone agrees on helps eliminate financial problems down the line.
Choose a destination. Let everyone say a place they think will be fun. A few people will likely want to go to the same place. From there, agree to a voting system, maybe choose the most mentioned destination or draw from a hat.
Book flights ahead of time. Some airlines offer group rates and a payment plan. For example, Delta lets groups of 10 or more book 240 days before departure. “Delta Group Specialists customize Delta flight itineraries for groups of 10 or more passengers traveling on the same flight. You’ll get the advantage of competitive fares, flexible ticketing options, and support in booking and managing your group’s travel. Your booking will be secured with a booking fee and deposit as outlined in your contract,” its website reads.
Book your accommodations. Figuring out where the group will stay is one of the main things on the trip. Large hotels are always an option, but an Airbnb may be a better stay. Smaller hotels, resorts, villas, and rented homes help keep the group together. Make these arrangements in advance to reserve whatever accommodations the group needs.
Organize payment. Decide who will handle the payments and when payments will be due. Thanks to CashApp, Zelle, and other payment systems, sending money is easier. If you choose a responsible person to collect money and pay, it helps keeps things in order.
Set plans while also leaving room for individual time. Nobody wants a trip that is structured from start to finish. Of course, plan some group activities like excursions and dinners. But make sure to leave some time for people to do their own thing so no one gets burned out.
Enjoy!

Tips For Managing Food Bills – Tower Hamlets https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tips-for-managing-food-bills-tower-hamlets/
MENU
There are plenty of ways in which you can manage your food bills during the cost of living crisis.
1. Meal prep
A lot of money is wasted on groceries that aren’t used and are just thrown out. Meal prepping is planning your meals out in the week – this helps you know exactly what you need to buy and in what quantity, reducing the size of your grocery shop, saving money and meaning less wastage. All you need to do is sit down with a pen and paper, make a seven day chart and choose what meals will be made each day. You can use websites like ‘BBC Good Food’ and ‘Cooking on a Bootstrap’ to help with ideas, recipes and accessing quantities. More on healthy eating on a budget here.
2. Supermarket reduced ‘yellow sticker’ discounts
‘Yellow sticker’ discounts are when items have been reduced to clear, and have got a yellow sticker on them. The first yellow stickers tend to appear mid-morning, and price reductions begin early evening, when stores cut prices by 75% and more, but timings depend on the supermarket.
3. Use a free app to find end-of-day discounts at cafés, restaurants & supermarkets
Too Good To Go aims to reduce food waste and save you money at the same time. It links you to local restaurants, supermarkets, cafés and bakeries which have leftover food at the end of the day, and lets you buy it at a discounted rate.
Plus food-sharing app Olio links you with others nearby who have surplus grub to give away, so it’s not wasted – like Freecycle does for unwanted furniture and other items.
4. Changing supermarkets
Consider changing supermarkets for budget ones like Lidl and Aldi for cheaper groceries. A handy comparison tool, Trolley, lets you compare the cost of products at the major supermarkets.
5. Own brand or ‘Value’ groceries
Consider switching the brands you use. Rather than buying branded goods, get the supermarket’s own brand version which will save you some money. Do this for each product and you could find your grocery bill down by a third or even more.
6. Loyalty schemes
Make the most of supermarket loyalty schemes and discounts.
7. Cut out non-essentials
Cut out non-essentials such as snacks, fizzy drinks and unnecessary food.
8. Use by dates VS Best before dates
A use-by date on food is about safety. Never eat food after the use-by date, even if it looks and smells ok, as it could make you ill.
However, the best before date (BBE) is about quality and not safety. Foods with a best before date indicate it will be safe to eat after this date but its flavour and texture might not be as good. If something is past its best-before date, you don’t necessarily need to throw it away – use its appearance and taste to decide.
9. Tools to use up fridge/cupboard leftovers
To stop wasting food that you don’t know what to do with, use special sites that suggest recipes for the items left over in your fridge or cupboard. E.g SuperCook or BigOven – just input what items are in your fridge or cupboard and they will suggest a recipe for them from thousands. Alternatively, just go to this site’s Old Style Recipe Index and scroll down to the relevant ingredient.
10. Get free food from signing up for apps/offers
Make sure you supplement these supermarket shopping tips by making the most of all the food freebies available, usually by signing up for a newsletter or app. The likes of Krispy Kreme, Burger King and Taco Bell offer freebies to get you through the door, yet often you don’t need to spend anything to get the freebie. See this guide for more detail on which apps/offers are available.
11. Check out supermarket schemes
Check out supermarket schemes for places kids can eat free or for as little as £1:

Meet Me In The Metaverse – Radio World https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/meet-me-in-the-metaverse-radio-world/
iHeart is already there, building new engagement spaces
By Mark Lapidus
Published: October 14, 2022
I don’t do well on roller coasters. But when presented with a “virtual” ride in the metaverse, I figured that a roller coaster existing only in my mind couldn’t hurt me. Wrong!
I felt so sick I had to take a Dramamine. When engineered correctly, the metaverse really can convince your brain that it’s having an actual experience. Powerful stuff, indeed.
Like it or not, various forms of the metaverse are here already. And like every other new consumer-focused platform, radio needs to figure out a way to become part of the landscape, and learn whether or not there’s a place for us there.
Just weeks ago, iHeartMedia boldly took the plunge into hosting metaverse concerts in the game Fortnite (and subsequently Roblox). Their area within the game is called “iHeartland,” described as a “state-of-the-art, always-on entertainment space where music and gaming collide.”
An image from the iHeartLand presence on Roblox.
iHeartland features a calendar of concerts, album releases, podcasts, events, and of course, games. Initial artists include Charlie Puth, Ariana Grande and Travis Scott. It’s an extremely cool way for both artists and radio stations to break new music.
There are some very cool fan experiences being tested in “iHeartland” that involve celebrity interaction in a way that could never happen in the real world.
iHeartland has scheduled an initial 20 events that are unlocked through gaming. Lest you get the impression this is just for fun, they’ve nabbed a major sponsor, State Farm Insurance, with naming rights for “State Farm Park,” which is in the center of the island. The area has a red carpet where players snap selfies, a countdown clock for the next big event, food and tents. Okay, so you can’t really eat the food — at least not yet, but by now I’m sure you get the picture.
[Read More Columns by Mark Lapidus]
Most importantly, radio/audio in some fashion will be able to reach consumers where they are spending significant quantities of time. In the iHeart example, they’re reaching a demo of young men, who are increasingly difficult to attract to broadcast radio.
It’s true that we do yet know the results. Like all new endeavors, we should not be too quick to draw major conclusions. It’s going to be a true exercise of test-and-measure, adjust, test-and-measure, try again … then after an extended time we’ll have a few answers about scalability and whether the metaverse is a place for radio to become a permanent fixture.
It’s also impossible to know if there is a first-mover advantage. While that’s the typical thinking, radio’s past is littered with companies who invested big sums and then failed. Anybody remember the initial stand-alone streaming devices that would send a signal to your computer to listen to streaming radio stations? I have one in my garage and still marvel at how cool it looks and how quickly the company went bankrupt.
There is a medium ground where the radio industry begins testing and, as iHeart is doing, selling in advertisers to cover at least a portion of the cost. Another trick is not to take our overall attention away from our core product. That’s why it’s so useful to have a group of people who specialize in new platforms.
In case you don’t know, the metaverse exists way beyond gaming. There’s a reason that Facebook chose Meta as their company’s new name. If the metaverse sounds like a foreign language to you, it’s past time to do your own research. Got kids? Ask them about it and just watch the excitement as they take you to the latest new world.
As always, drop me an email and let me know what you think to [email protected].

Analyzing the Best Private Token Sales
To provide investors with ample information, we’ve included detailed reviews of the best crypto private sales below. We’ve included projects that span a wide range of sectors and networks in order to provide the most comprehensive guide possible.
1. IMPT – The Overall Best Crypto Private Sale to Invest in
With aims to disrupt a multi-billion dollar industry while benefiting the entire planet, IMPT is one of the most exciting crypto private sales on the market right now. To achieve its goals, the project plans to tokenize credits equal to offsetting 1 ton of carbon (carbon credits). This approach will drastically improve transparency in the sector, potentially boosting widespread adoption.
As it stands today, despite being worth a combined $273 billion, the voluntary and mandatory carbon offset sectors lack transparency, hurting buyer confidence and hindering global adoption. However, by making carbon credits verifiable and only working with organizations that have been audited by a third party, IMPT could change the status quo for the better.
In order to provide everyone with the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint, IMPT will offer a couple of different ways to acquire carbon credits. They will, of course, be available to purchase on the IMPT platform but that’s not all. People will also be able to earn IMPT tokens to exchange for carbon credits simply for shopping with a long list of 10,000+ partner brands.
With the mandatory carbon offset market already worth over $270 billion, it’s no surprise that IMPT has created a system for a company to offset its carbon. As stated in the IMPT whitepaper, any business can partner with IMPT to allocate a portion of its sale margin to certified environmental organizations, benefiting the environment and hitting regulatory obligations with ease.
IMPT is one of the best crypto presales right now. Its currently in the first of three phases with 600 million tokens selling for $0.018 at the private sale stage The price of IMPT will then increase to $0.023 for the next 660 million tokens, before climbing to $0.028 for the final 540 million tokens during the second and third phases.
IMPT is a massively exciting project that has the potential to increase in value substantially once released on the open market. Check out the IMPT presale today to snag some tokens for the lowest price possible and join the IMPT Telegram group to hear about the latest updates before anyone else.
The private sale stage has already raised over $4m in under two weeks, so make sure you check it out before it’s too late.
Visit IMPT Presale
2. WeSendit – Blockchain-Powered Gateway to Decentralized Storage
WeSendit (WSI) is one of the best upcoming ICO (initial coin offering) projects on the market. The team behind the project aims to revolutionize the data storage sector by providing users with easy access to a wide range of established platforms that provide decentralized data storage services. The private sale is ongoing on the WeSendit website.
WeSendit aims to improve privacy in the data storage sector through the use of decentralization. With the project being an established player in the sector for an impressive 10 years, WeSendit certainly has the experience necessary to perform well. The project will allow users to access a range of providers like Filecoin and Storj without hassle, making life far easier for users.
Overall, WeSendit is one of the most interesting private sales currently ongoing. The project has been spoken about in a number of well-known publications including G2.com and with a fully doxed team, WeSendit is doing well on the transparency front. With that said, only time will tell how the WSI token performs on the open market.
3. Leap – New Project Providing a Platform for Sports People to Get Scouted
Leap (LEAP) is an innovative new cryptocurrency project that aims to change the way new talent is scouted in the sports industry via the creation of a platform that centers fans, talent, and decision-makers in a single location. The Leap private sale is expected to launch on October 31st with whitelist registration currently ongoing.
With the sports industry being worth hundreds of billions, a project with the potential to improve it could end up as one of the best long-term crypto projects out there. While the core functionality of Leap is still in the works, LEAP token holders will be able to stake their tokens for rewards, vote on decisions regarding the project’s future, and get early access to the platform.
While we’ll have to wait and see how the Leap platform develops, the project is unique and does show promise. With that said, private sales are risky investments so it’s always imperative to perform ample research before investing.
4. WeSleep – Earn Crypto Rewards for Sleeping
Building on the various x-to-earn concepts that have become popular in the crypto space over the past year, WeSleep is a new project that allows its users to earn crypto rewards simply for sleeping. The project features two different tokens, $ZZZ (for rewards) and $WEZ (for everything else). The WeSleep private crypto sale is currently open for registration.
The project was created on the Solana blockchain, helping to keep fees low and settlement speed high. In order to engage users, the project will reward users with WEZ for completing various tasks which can then be staked to earn ZZZ. Similar to StepN, the rate of earnings will be based on the attributes of upgradable WeSleep NFTs.
Investors looking for the best private token sales in 2022 should keep an eye on WeSleep. The project seems to be well-designed and features a fairly unique concept, meaning it could perform similarly to StepN and become one of the best altcoins soon after its release.
5. Panaroma – Private Crypto Sale Creating an Investor-Focused Exchange
Panaroma (PANA) is a new project aiming to build a crypto exchange that puts investors first. To achieve this, Panaroma aims to increase transparency within the sector, providing users with the lowest possible fees and access to a variety of exclusive crypto assets. Registration for the project’s private sale is currently ongoing.
The project aims to create a new breed of investing platform by building both a centralized and decentralized exchange, an NFT marketplace, and even a launchpad for the best IEO cryptos. The PANA token will power the entire ecosystem with holders receiving exclusive access to certain projects and reduced fees, similar to the FTT token from FTX.
While there is a wide range of different exchanges out there, few offer the number of features touted by Panaroma. As such, the project is up there with the best crypto private sales but as always its imperative to perform the proper due diligence before investing.
6. VitalVeda – Utilizing the Blockchain and Virtual Reality to Create a Metaverse Gym
VitalVeda (VVG) is another project worthy of consideration for investors on the hunt for the best crypto private sale. The project will utilize blockchain technology, the Metaverse, and virtual reality in order to create a virtual gym of sorts, allowing people all over the world to come together and get fit. The founder has been KYC verified by IDOPresales and the private sale is ongoing.
Throughout the pandemic, people struggled to stay healthy as the typical avenues, such as gyms, fitness classes, etc were all closed. However, VitalVeda aims to get a platform that can help people achieve their fitness goals from the comfort of their own homes. To incentivize exercise, the project will reward holders of any VVSW NFT with crypto for staying fit.
While move-to-earn projects have become rather prevalent, VitalVeda has a much larger focus on helping people with specific goals (e,g, building strength and losing fat). With personal trainers costing upward of $30 per hour, VitalVeda could end up being the best crypto private sale within the fitness sector.
7. Stackspace – Crypto Private Sale Creating the Next Generation of Digital Marketplace
Stackspace (STSP) is a project aiming to create the largest and most diverse digital market within the crypto space. The project is focused on NFTs in all forms but will specialize in gaming/Metaverse-related assets. The Stackspace private sale is open for registration and will run until November 12th.
To appeal to a larger audience Stackspace will be a multi-chain marketplace, allowing a huge n...

Partner Pay Watch: Pillsbury’s Lapointe, Picked For Miami U.S. Attorney – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/partner-pay-watch-pillsburys-lapointe-picked-for-miami-u-s-attorney-reuters/
Markenzy Lapointe would oversee office handling Mar-a-Lago investigation
Nominee formerly was at Boies Schiller
(Reuters) – The lawyer picked to lead the federal prosecutor’s office overseeing the Mar-a-Lago investigation reported earning $905,000 as a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman since January 2021, according to an ethics disclosure released on Friday as part of his nomination.
Markenzy Lapointe, a former prosecutor in the Southern District of Florida U.S. attorney’s office, joined Pillsbury Winthrop in 2017 from law firm Boies Schiller Flexner.
Lapointe, who is Haitian-American, would be the first Black attorney to serve at the top of the Miami-based federal prosecutor’s office in south Florida, Democratic U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson said in a June op-ed that called for his nomination. President Joe Biden last month announced Lapointe’s nomination.

He has advised corporate clients including Fujifilm Holdings America Corp, Truist Financial Corp and Qatar International Bank, according to his financial disclosure.
Financial ethics filings are mandatory for many senior-level executive branch officials, and they can provide a window into compensation at some of the country’s largest law firms. They record income received from the prior year up to the date of the filing.
The disclosures also provide an ethics roadmap, since a new U.S. government lawyer is barred from immediately touching matters involving former clients.
Lapointe did not immediately respond to a message on Friday seeking comment.
Pillsbury last year saw an uptick in profits per equity partner to $2.1 million, and revenue per lawyer at the roughly 650-attorney firm climbed to $1.2 million, industry publication The American Lawyer reported in April. U.S. attorneys can make up to about $176,000 annually.
The Southern District of Florida prosecutor’s office handles investigations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and other cities. Lapointe would oversee an office of about 245 federal prosecutors.
He would succeed career prosecutor Juan Antonio Gonzalez, who was appointed as the U.S. attorney by Attorney General Merrick Garland in October 2021. Gonzalez, an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Florida since 1998, declined to comment on Friday.
Gonzalez has played a central role in recent months in the ongoing investigation of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s handling of presidential records taken from the White House and stored at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Trump has denied wrongdoing.
The Trump-era Miami U.S. attorney was Ariana Fajardo Orshan, the first Senate-confirmed woman to lead the office. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed her last year to serve as a state judge in Miami. The Obama-era Miami U.S. attorney, Wifredo Ferrer, now is a partner at Holland & Knight.

Rumors that the Hatch Avenue water tower was being repaired, cleaned or repainted on Oct. 11 are greatly exaggerated.
Equipment and people seen on and around the Hatch Avenue water tower on Oct. 11, 2022 were there to replace cellular equipment for a company that rents space on the tower, according to city personnel.

Inquiring minds wanted to know what was going on last Tuesday, Oct. 11, when a crane was operating next to Park Rapids’ Hatch Avenue water tower, and people were seen walking on top of the water tank.
City Administrator Angel Weasner confirmed Friday that this was unrelated to the city’s water service. Instead, she said, a company that rents space on the tower was replacing three pieces of cellular communications equipment.
Further details will be forthcoming, pending a media release from the city of Park Rapids.

Indianapolis Tourism: 2 Indy Hotels Among Best In The Midwest – IndyStar https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/indianapolis-tourism-2-indy-hotels-among-best-in-the-midwest-indystar/
Now may be the perfect time to book that Indianapolis vacation — or staycation — at a local hotel.
Conde Nast Traveler named both The Alexander, at 333 S. Delaware St., and Ironworks Hotel Indy, at 2721 E. 86th St. in Indianapolis, as two of their Top 15 hotels in the Midwest in the site’s 2022 Reader’s Choice awards.
The Alexander, with 209 rooms, came in at No. 4 with a score of 98.15. The hotel has 209 rooms. More information and bookings available online at thealexander.com. The Alexander has a variety of food options — whether it’s a craft cocktail from bar Plat 99, or a meal from Market Table or Nesso Italian Kitchen, this hotel offers it.
Ironworks Hotel Indy was ranked No. 14, with a score of 92.63. Ironworks pays homage to an old ironworks, what else, in Beloit, Wisconsin, but it has plenty of Hoosier touches all the same. Dining options include Provision and Blue Sushi Sake grill. More information available online at ironworkshotelindy.com.
The Conde Nast Reader’s Choice awards are decided based on a yearly survey that allow readers to submit ratings for their favorite places to travel and stay.
A location must receive a minimum overall score and number of nominations to be eligible for an award. Candidates are judged on criteria, such as rooms, service, food, location, design, activities and facilities amenities.
Other considerations added this year include community, cleanliness, concierge, experience, safety, accessibility and ability to work remotely.
That criteria is based on to a five-point scale converted to a percentage, and the average of all ratings determines overall score for a location.

Consumer prices surge and mortgage rates hit 20-year high

Stocks slid Fown after rising at the opening bell.oday’sgan, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley reported their quarterly results Friday. It was a mixed bag.
And a pair of economic reports on retail sales and consumer sentiment gave investors insight into whether inflation and the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes are keeping Americans from spending.
US markets gave up their early-morning gains after a new consumer survey from the University of Michigan showed that expectations for elevated inflation were increasing.
Investors worried that the survey, closely watched by the Federal Reserve, could mean more painful rate hikes are on the horizon.
The Dow fell below 30,000 on the news, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also dropped to session lows.
The Dow lost 140 points, or 0.5%, on Friday morning.
The S&P 500 was down 1.1%.
The Nasdaq Composite was 1.4% lower.

Citigroup reported a 25% drop in year-over-year net income on Friday as the bank increased its loan loss reserves and activity in investment banking slumped.
“Banking was the business most adversely impacted by the macro environment with reduced deal flows and a lower appetite for M&A,” said Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser in the company’s statement, adding that “the backdrop for wealth management was difficult.”
Big banks have been slammed this year as the US faces a potential recession, which would lead to major loan losses and an accelerated slowdown in mergers and acquisitions.
Out of all the big bank stocks, Citi’s shares have tumbled the most – down 32% year-to-date.
There were some bright spots in the company’s third quarter report. The bank reported stronger-than-expected revenue, bringing in $18.51 billion in revenue versus the $18.25 billion expected by analysts, according to Refinitiv, a 6% increase since last year.
Personal banking revenue soared 10% year over year to $4.33 billion.
But the bank reported just $631 million in investment banking revenue for the third quarter, a steep decline of more than 60% year over year.
Citigroup’s Fraser will speak about earnings live at 11 a.m. ET.
Anyone who’s watched “Sesame Street” probably knows the classic song about how one object in a group differs from the rest. “One of these things is not like the others. One of these things just doesn’t belong.”
Well, Morgan Stanley (MS) was the one that didn’t belong Friday.
Shares of the investment bank fell 3% in early trading after the bank reported earnings and revenue that missed analysts’ forecasts. Meanwhile, shares of JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Citigroup (C), Wells Fargo (WFC) and US Bancorp (USB) were all higher after they each reported reasonably solid results.
So to quote another “Sesame Street” song, “it’s not easy being green” if you’re Morgan Stanley’s stock.
US stocks opened higher in the wake of a massive comeback Thursday that saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average surge 1,500 points from peak to trough and the S&P 500 post its widest trading range since March 2020.
Investors also considered mixed third-quarter earnings results from big banks. JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo stock soared after they beat revenue expectations. Morgan Stanley and Citigroup, meanwhile, both announced profit misses.
The Dow gained 249 points, or 0.8%, on Friday morning.
The S&P 500 was up 0.9%.
The Nasdaq Composite was 1% higher.

Americans were feeling more confident about the economy in early October — though that optimism may prove short lived, according to the latest University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey.
The preliminary consumer sentiment index for this month rose to 59.8 from 58.6 in September, having fallen to a record low of 50 in June when gas prices hit historic highs.
The decline in fuel costs since then has allowed consumers to feel a little more optimistic, but the recent decision by OPEC+ to cut oil production, along with the potential for further fallout from Russia’s war in Ukraine, threatens to push up the price at the pump again.
“Continued uncertainty over the future trajectory of prices, economies, and financial markets around the world indicate a bumpy road ahead for consumers,” said Joanne Hsu, Surveys of Consumers director, in a statement Friday.
Sentiment has perked up in recent months; however, it remains at levels similar to those seen during the Great Recession.
The preliminary October survey also showed that consumers are expecting inflation to hit 5.1% during the next 12 months and 2.9% within the next five years, up from September’s reading.
“I think you’re starting to see what looks like a turning point here with consumers becoming more pessimistic again, pulling back on spending going into the holiday season, which is a very important time of year for the consumer,” said Scott Brave, head of economic analytics at Morning Consult.
“That’s setting a tone that maybe this year is going to be a little bit different, maybe not quite as strong of a holiday shopping season as we’ve seen the last couple of years.”
Federal Reserve officials have grown anxious about inflation becoming entrenched in the United States, and consumers’ expectations factor heavily into that equation.

Wells Fargo CFO Mike Santomassimo said Friday that the bank is seeing “historically low delinquencies and high payment rates” from both consumers and business customers. But it doesn’t expect that to last.
“We are closely monitoring risks related to the continued impact of high inflation and increasing interest rates, as well as the broader geopolitical risks,” said Wells Fargo CEO Charlie Scharf in the company’s earnings statement. “While we do expect to see continued increases in delinquencies and ultimately credit losses, the timing remains unclear.”
Santomassimo elaborated on the company’s outlook on a call with journalists Friday, as reported by Reuters. He said that the bank will continue to “right size” its mortgage lending business due to lower volumes, although he gave no indication of how many jobs might be at risk in that unit.
Wells Fargo set aside $784 million for loan losses in the quarter, which reduced its net income to $3.5 billion from $5.1 billion a year earlier. The company also took $2 billion in accruals primarily related to a variety of historical matters, including litigation, customer remediation, and regulatory issues. The fact that its income would have risen without the accruals helped lift its shares 3% in premarket trading.

Monthly retail sales data released Friday were unchanged from the previous month, after rising by a revised 0.4% in August. The report reflects how American consumers, who are battling decades-high inflation, have pulled back on their purchasing amid aggressive rate hikes from the Federal Reserve.
Economists had predicted a 0.2% monthly increase, according to estimates from Refinitiv.
On an annual basis, sales were up 8.2% from September 2021, the Census Bureau reported.
The report showed that consumers pulled back their spending last month on cars, furniture, electronics, building materials, sporting goods and gas stations.
The retail sales data is not adjusted for inflation, which in September not only continued to remain at high levels but also lodged itself into more areas of the economy. The Consumer Price Index released Thursday showed that prices increased 0.4% from August and were up 8.2% for the 12 months ended in September, outpacing wage gains and leaving many US shoppers to rely on credit cards even for essentials.
The typical American household spent $445 more a month in September to buy the same goods and services they purchased a year ago, according to Moody’s Analytics.
“Inflation is costly,” said Ryan Sweet, senior director at Moody’s.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon made waves in a CNBC interview earlier this week when he made gloomy comments about the global economy and potential recession for the United States. But the bank’s chief financial officer isn’t too worried about the possibility of a major housing meltdown leading to another downturn.

“Through my years of leadership at Komen North Jersey, my platform was based on a personal belief that every woman is deserving, entitled, and worthy of the highest standards of healthcare” – Deb Belfatto
NEWARK, N.J. (PRWEB) October 14, 2022
Deb Belfatto, Founder of the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Affiliate, community activist, two-time cancer survivor, and a trailblazer for women’s causes has launched Let’s Talk: Women’s Health & Wellness, a one-day event to support women’s health awareness. The event will be hosted at NJPAC in Newark, NJ on October 15th, 2022. This unique experience will bring women of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities together to learn, celebrate, and share their health journeys.
Although there has been tremendous progress since 1988 when Deb was first diagnosed with breast cancer, there is still more work to be done. Deb leads a healthy life surrounded by blessings including her supportive family, friends, doctors, and access to resources. Despite the vast knowledge she gained from her diagnosis experience and her own commitment to healthy living, she was shell-shocked when, during the height of the pandemic in 2021, she was diagnosed with cancer for a second time.

Sanibel Transmission Line Expected Be Energized Today | News, Sports, Jobs – Lehigh Acres Citizen https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/sanibel-transmission-line-expected-be-energized-today-news-sports-jobs-lehigh-acres-citizen/
LCEC and FPL crews and support workers, supported by efforts from Governor Ron DeSantis’s office, are expected to energize the transmission line on Sanibel Island some time today. It is still too early for an estimated restoration time. LCEC serves nearly 11,000 customers on Sanibel and Captiva islands. The goal is to restore power as quickly and safely as possible to those able to receive power and ensure the infrastructure is available for those who will rebuild their homes or businesses destroyed by Hurricane Ian.
Travel to and from the island has been a challenge without the option of vehicular traffic. Mobilization by barge began last week and was not without challenges due to timing of tides, weight restrictions, the quantity and size of the equipment and materials, and the number of workers traveling to the island. Earlier this week, a convoy of hundreds of utility and support trucks and vehicles reached the island through a one-time emergency roadway access supported by Governor DeSantis. This expedited staging and allowed crews to begin preliminary work on the transmission and substation infrastructure.
Assessment, testing, and scrubbing of critical equipment was required before energizing. Simultaneously, crews began working to set poles and prepare installation of wire and other facilities to energize the backbone of the system.
In addition to hundreds of FPL line workers, the restoration operation on the island includes LCEC substation electricians, design engineers, warehouse workers, base camp coordinators, logistics experts, emergency operations representatives, and safety personnel.

Here’s Your Metaverse News Roundup For The Week – Fortune https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/heres-your-metaverse-news-roundup-for-the-week-fortune/
Welcome to This Week in the Metaverse, where Fortune rounds up the most interesting news in the world of NFTs, culture, and the metaverse. Email marco.quiroz-gutierrez@fortune.com with tips.
When it comes to NFT art, most of the attention—and most of the sales—are going to male creators. A study by research agency Art Tactic from November found that as much as 77% of all NFT art sales go to men.
In an effort to change this stark disparity, NFT marketplace MakersPlace partnered with Excedrin, by the British health care company Haleon, to start Equal Bytes, an accelerator program focused on women artists in Web3. A minimum of 100 artists will be accepted and receive guaranteed bids of around $800 (with gas fees covered) for an artwork they create. Applications for the program are open until Nov. 2.
“It shouldn’t be this way in digital art. It should be a place of equity for all, but it still remains that less than 20% of sales go to female artists,” said Rishi Mulgund, the brand director of pain relief at Haleon.
The Equal Bytes cohort will be selected by a group of accomplished Web3 artists, including Shurooq Amin, a Kuwaiti artist who turned to NFTs and digital art after an art exhibition of hers was censored by Kuwait’s government.
Web3 artist Shurooq Amin, whose work explores gender disparities, homosexuality, and questions taboos in the Muslim world had her art exhibitions shut down twice by the Kuwait government.

Amin, the first Kuwaiti artist to mint NFT art, said she’s faced criticism and attacks for her art, which explores gender disparities, homosexuality, and questions taboos in the Muslim world. Still, digital art and NFTs can be a way for women, especially in Muslim-majority countries, to freely create and sell art when traditional markets aren’t made available to them, she said.
“You don’t need to be represented by anyone. You don’t need to wait for someone to discover you. You are already your own boss,” Amin said.
All of the pieces will be displayed in an online exhibit on MakersPlace and auctioned off on Nov. 21. And although the minimum bid for each piece is $800, competitive bidding could push the prices much higher.
Metaverse as a service?
It’s no secret that companies are increasingly experimenting with the metaverse. One of the companies helping other companies create and test their own so-called metaworlds is Surreal Events, a two-year-old firm that’s already created virtual worlds for clients including the Atlanta Braves and Epic Games.
Surreal’s platform uses pixel streaming, which allows Unreal Engine-based metaworlds to run in a browser without any downloads, and gives companies a chance to prototype, deploy, and manage realistic-looking virtual worlds that can be launched in about six weeks.
One of the Surreal Events’ main selling points is that it gives companies a chance to quickly roll out a metaverse experience, rather than spending months testing something that might flop, CEO Josh Rich told Fortune.
“It’s more than a white paper, and it’s more than screen screenshots on a Discord server,” Rich said. “It’s an actual live environment that can be pushed out as a prototype, or for the community, as you’re building the runway for takeoff.”
Epic Games has already used Surreal Events’ platform to create Detroit Lab, a virtual innovation center that’s open to anyone.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has the NFT industry, and now apparently Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs, in its sights. Bloomberg reported in March that the agency had opened a probe into the NFT industry. That probe apparently includes some NFTs from Yuga and the cryptocurrency it has adopted for its Otherside metaverse, ApeCoin.
Meta released its upgraded Quest Pro VR headset this week. But with a price tag of $1,500, some have doubts that a mainstream metaverse is within reach—despite the billions Meta has invested.
CNN shuttered its NFT marketplace, Vault by CNN, which sold digital versions of CNN reports and related art. The company said it would compensate collectors to the tune of about 20% of the original mint price for each NFT, but some still felt rugged by the news network.
Snoop Dogg is the king of NFTs, or at least paying for them, according to a study by CoinGecko. The rapper, who goes by the name Cozomo de’ Medici on crypto Twitter, paid $7.08 million for digital artist XCOPY’s Right-click and Save As guy. To nab the top spot, Snoop beat out Gary Vee’s $3.9 million purchase of CryptoPunk #2140 and Justin Bieber’s $1.3 million purchase of Bored Ape #3001.
After reports broke that the $1.2 billion metaverse Decentraland recorded 38 active users in a 24-hour period, an unlikely critic, Ethereum co-founder Anthony D’Onofrio, said in a tweet that the whole concept of the metaverse is “dumb af.”

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Review – TrueAchievements https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ghostbusters-spirits-unleashed-review-trueachievements/
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed takes the rising popularity of asymmetrical multiplayer gameplay and blends it with the wackiness of its source material. Tom grabbed his Proton Pack and had a go at ghostbusting for himself…
At first glance, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed visuals may appear simplistic, and so too, many of its gameplay elements, but underneath it all is a system that not only lets you live out a fantasy of becoming a member of the famed team but also partake in plenty of shenanigans as an otherworldly being. Don’t let its welcomingly soft style fool you, as this is a game that has the ability to drown you in chaos as quickly as it seduces you with nostalgia, and it makes for a wildly good time.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed trailer
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed to work quite as well as it does. Granted, some elements such as its unlockable items feel a little barebones at the moment, but overall, there is an overpowering sense of respect for the franchise and a gameplay loop that had me wanting to come back for more. The asymmetrical multiplayer genre is crammed full of violent, horror-themed games, and I love that, but it’s refreshing to play something that enjoys a death-free existence and somehow manages to make playing as a lamp feel natural — I wasn’t expecting to say something like that either, but here we are…
In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed you play one of two roles: a member of the four-member team of ‘Busters’ or the naughty Ghost attempting to haunt a location. Naturally, playing as a Buster is the main draw of the game, which focuses on putting you in the shoes of a fresh-faced recruit, the new generation of Ghostbusters. Both Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson reprise their roles as Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, respectively, as mentors and experts in hunting the otherworldly critters causing havoc across New York City. Their roles help give Illfonic’s game a chance to stand on its own feet and tell its own story, as well as offer credibility to this new franchise entry.
Your newfound career operates out of the iconic Firehouse, which acts as the hub for everything you do in the game — it even has an interactable Ecto Containment Unit so you can mimic emptying the Ghost Trap. I used it countless times before I realised it didn’t actually do anything. From the Firehouse, you can apply character upgrades, travel to the spirit world to modify your ghost, rewatch the story cutscenes (which is pretty much a fun cartoon you unlock in segments as you level up), load into games, marvel at Ecto-1, and see your collectable items. It’s practically an explorable menu. You should also be able to collect contracts to complete for additional XP, but it seems to be buggy and didn’t work for me. I managed to get one contract before the ability to access the table disappeared completely, but levelling is so quick, I can’t imagine the contracts would be too advantageous anyway — of the 50 available levels, I’m already at level 33 after around 15 hours of playtime.
To hop into a game, you interact with a telephone on a desk — which rings until you ready up; I like that —and choose to either play with other humans or just use bots. AI companions generally have a reputation of being braindead in the majority of games, but not here! No, here they carry you through each match. They don’t do much to other players, but fellow bots can make it interesting. The single game mode sees the Ghost scaring NPCs in an attempt to fully haunt the map. A number of tools are at your disposal, such as making objects float and move around, possessing people, vomiting slime onto them, and a host of other delightful actions. You can possess many items around the map and move about while inside them, so if, like our very own Luke, you fancy spending a bit of time exploring the intricate life of a cardboard box, you can. While it’s definitely a fun activity to indulge in, it’s also one of the many tools a Ghost has for subterfuge and sabotage.
As the Ghost is attempting to haunt the map, the Busters must try to stop it by capturing it in the Ghost Trap. The Ghost has three Relics hidden around the map, which the Busters need to locate and destroy to stop it from respawning while simultaneously calming the NPCs. Teamwork is key, as travelling solo raises your own fear level and decreases your ability to perform tasks. Plus, a skilled Ghost player will easily dodge your pitiful attempts to capture it alone. Alongside the famed Particle Thrower, you have a few secondary gadgets to help you out as well, such as Ionizer Pods to slow the Ghost and a Radar Puck for alerting you of the Ghost’s presence. Ghosts can fight back with their own abilities and may just decide to bring the fight to you instead of haunting the map directly, offering a fresh experience with each game you play. As I said before, you can’t die in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed; you go into a downed state after being covered in far too much ectoplasm (slime) before getting back up again.
Customisation includes both cosmetic items and upgrades to your Buster’s equipment: Proton Pack, Particle Thrower, P.K.E Metre, and Ghost Trap. Each item can be upgraded with various parts that increase or decrease its stats, such as altering the time it takes to tether a ghost, improving the speed your items cool down after overheating, and a multitude of other additions. The stats slightly affect how your Buster operates in the field, so tuning it to fit your playstyle is required, especially since the Ghost can also be upgraded. The Ghost’s upgrades come in the form of five archetypes, each hosting a number of variants with differing skills. Beginners start with the Ectoplast, which specialises in getting everyone and everything covered in slime — the game’s ‘damage.’ However, as you level up, other options become available, such as Ghosts designed to break everything around them, buff their own mini-minion army, possess humans, and various other abilities. While additional cosmetic items wouldn’t go amiss as an incentive to continue playing after level 50, I have to give a shout-out to Illfonic for the inclusion of your Gamertag as a name patch on your character’s clothing. It’s a small detail, I know, but seeing ‘DeathHuntsUs’ printed on a Ghostbuster’s t-shirt is too good not to appreciate!
I’m having a blast with Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleased at the moment, thanks to the variety of gameplay opportunities you have with both the Busters and Ghosts, but it’s not without its faults sadly. Playing with Luke, who was using an Xbox Series S, saw him crash after every game, although I’ve been absolutely fine on the Series X. As I mentioned before, I can’t access the contracts menu anymore, which is pretty annoying, so I can’t comment on how useful it is or not. Overall, it’s been a really fun adventure and a breath of fresh air compared to the other titles in the genre.
As for the Ghostbuster: Spirits Unleashed achievements, there really isn’t anything in the list that’s going to prove much of a challenge, and even the cumulative ones aren’t too egregious. Catastrophic Destroyer, which tasks you with causing $5 million worth of damage across your career is going to be one of the longer unlocks, but you can help that along by firing your Particle Thrower at almost everything on each map. It’s a great list, and one that won’t be too difficult to complete.
Summary
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed brings a welcoming and whimsical approach to the asymmetrical multiplayer genre while ensuring that it remains faithful to the franchise’s incredible history. Taking on the Busters as a Ghost offers you plenty of opportunities to be cheeky at every turn, just as you would expect from the creatures in Aykroyd’s universe. While a couple of issues have stopped me from scoring this a little higher, I have no doubt that fans and newcomers alike will have a great time with this well-crafted gem. If you’ve grown a little tired of the dark and foreboding theme found in similar games, I highly recommend you pick up the phone and call the Ghostbusters now to apply as a new recruit. It’s time to get busting!

U.S. Warns Of Sanctions Against Suppliers Of Ammunition To Russia Reuters
U.S. Warns Of Sanctions Against Suppliers Of Ammunition To Russia – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-warns-of-sanctions-against-suppliers-of-ammunition-to-russia-reuters/
WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) – The United States on Friday warned it can impose sanctions on people, countries and companies that provide ammunition to Russia or support its military-industrial complex, as Washington seeks to increase pressure on Moscow over the war in Ukraine.
Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, at a first-of-its kind gathering with officials from 32 countries to discuss sanctions on Russia, made clear that Washington is prepared to take action against those outside the United States evading Washington’s sanctions.
Officials at the meeting, which included representatives from EU countries, Canada and South Korea, discussed additional steps planned to target Russia’s military-industrial complex and the effects of several rafts of sanctions imposed by Washington and its partners over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, which has killed or wounded thousands.

The Treasury Department also warned that Washington is prepared to impose sanctions on those providing ammunition to Russia as well as private military companies or paramilitary groups that participate in or support Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In addition, the Treasury, Commerce and State departments issued an alert outlining actions that have been taken against Russia’s military-industrial complex and noting the risks those providing material support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine face.
The alert said that by restricting Russia’s access to advanced goods, technology and services, Washington and its partners have impacted Russia’s ability to replace weapons, including over 6,000 pieces of military equipment destroyed in the war.
The United States at the meeting was also set to warn that Russia is “expending munitions at an unsustainable rate” and turning to countries like Iran and North Korea for supplies and equipment, including, drones, rockets and artillery munitions, according to a copy of the presentation from Morgan Muir, deputy director of national intelligence for mission integration, seen by Reuters.
The export control measures imposed by Washington and a coalition of 37 countries have had an impact, according to the presentation, with Russia’s defense industry reliant on imported microelectronics and other parts. A critical shortage of bearings is undermining the production of tanks, aircraft, submarines and other military systems, the presentation noted.
Muir was also set to caution at the meeting that Russian intelligence services are seeking to illicitly acquire Western technology and parts barred from Russia under U.S. measures.
The network used to acquire the technology includes oligarchs, proxies and front companies, and targets Europe and North America as a priority, according to the presentation.
Earlier this year, Washington imposed sweeping new restrictions on shipments to Russia of U.S. and foreign goods, if made with U.S. equipment or technology, in an effort to degrade Russia’s military and industrial sectors.
The controls primarily target Russia’s defense, aerospace, and maritime sectors. They also target Russia’s energy production sector as well as luxury goods used by Russian elites.
The restrictions from Washington and its allies have reduced semiconductor imports, critical to Russia’s weaponry, by 70%, according to the alert. As a result, Russian hypersonic ballistic missile production has nearly ceased and the production of cars fell by three-quarters compared to last year.
Asked how much more Western allies could do to increase pressure on Russia, one European finance official said, “We can extend the list of people who are under sanctions. We can extend the number of goods that have export restrictions.”

Can These 2 Travel Stocks Compete With Airbnb? The Motley Fool
Can These 2 Travel Stocks Compete With Airbnb? – The Motley Fool https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/can-these-2-travel-stocks-compete-with-airbnb-the-motley-fool/
As younger travelers discover the timeshare experience, many prefer it over vacation rentals because of convenience, better food options, prime locations, and luxurious amenities.
Some travelers find rental services like Airbnb (ABNB 1.62%) much more risky, and view vacation rentals as requiring excessive research, preparation, and a “do-it-yourself” attitude. Sometimes that can take the fun right out of a vacation.
With the leisure travel market anticipated to hit $1.7 trillion by 2027, let’s take a look at two travel stocks in the timeshare industry — and how each is positioned for the future.
1. Marriott Vacations Worldwide
Marriott Vacations Worldwide (VAC 1.83%) operates more than 120 vacation ownership resorts across the globe. The company’s diversified portfolio of brands covers timeshare stays that range from family friendly to high-end luxury.
Entering the timeshare space in 1984, Marriott (MAR 2.84%) was the first hospitality brand of its kind to take business in that direction. Marriott’s timeshare business grew to the point that the division was spun off in 2011 to become its own entity, Marriott Vacations Worldwide. Now boasting roughly 700,000 owner families, Marriott Vacations has emerged as a leader and innovator in the travel industry.
Now, to capitalize on recent pent-up demand for leisure travel, the company has launched Abound by Marriott Vacations. Targeting millennials specifically, this new owner benefit program provides access to over 90 exclusive resorts, 8,000 hotels, and 2,000 vacation homes.
Investors should pay close attention to the success of Abound and whether other timeshare companies launch similar programs.
According to Executive Vice President Lori Gustafson, Marriott Vacations Worldwide is currently booking up to 90% occupancy at all of its resorts. Vacationers are definitely getting back out there. In fact, the company just posted $506 million in contract sales for the second quarter, a 40% increase year over year.

2. Hilton Grand Vacations
Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV 1.22%) develops and operates a portfolio of high-end vacation ownership resorts. With more than 150 properties, Hilton Grand Vacations offers leisure-filled stays in the continental U.S., Hawaii, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Although Hilton (HLT 2.49%) broke into the timeshare game in 1992, eight years after Marriott, the company soon made its mark. Hilton’s timeshare division differentiated itself with innovative and flexible timeshare offerings, allowing owners to easily alter bookings and maximize their membership experience.
Still one of Hilton’s 18 “distinct hotel brands,” Hilton Grand Vacations was spun off in 2017 to become its own business. As a result of Hilton Grand Vacations’ flexible timeshare options, the Orlando, Florida-based company now retains over 720,000 owners.
Also focusing on younger travelers, Hilton Grand Vacations is adapting its offerings to cater to millennial and Gen Z customers. Senior Vice President Gordon Gurnik describes the Gen Z jet-setting mindset as seeking “affordable, safe, and unforgettable experiences.”
To accommodate this emerging customer segment, Hilton Grand Vacations plans to offer safer travel experiences with added peace of mind, more authentic local experiences, memorable adventures, and cost-sharing options. In Q2 of this year, the company posted $617 million in contract sales — a 105% increase from the same period in 2019.
Which travel company is the better buy?
To gauge whether Marriott Vacations Worldwide or Hilton Grand Vacations is a better buy, let’s compare market capitalizations, price-to-earnings ratios, and price-to-sales ratios. Although Airbnb is in a league of its own, it is also listed for comparison’s sake.

Since the two companies’ price-to-sales ratios are nearly identical, a much lower price-to-earnings ratio makes Hilton Grand Vacations the better buy over Marriott Vacations Worldwide.
Long term, the fate of the timeshare industry will depend on whether companies can appeal to younger generations as successfully as they have to baby boomers. The leaders will be those companies that can best attract younger vacationers.

The Long Island Association held a panel discussion Thursday to mark National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Speakers at the event, held at LIA headquarters in Melville, included Chris Rosa, president and CEO of The Viscardi Center; John and Mark Cronin, co-founders of John’s Crazy Socks; and Ines Vanboom, assistant vice president for Workforce Readiness at Northwell Health.
“One of the LIA’s top priorities is to cultivate a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive economy because that will support the overall growth and prosperity of our region,” Matt Cohen, president and CEO of the LIA, said in an organization statement. “Businesses on Long Island that have hired people with disabilities have demonstrated you can be both inclusive and profitable.”
This year’s theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month is “Disability: Part of the Equity Equation.” The LIA event was aimed at providing the business community with tools, guidance, and information to support expansion of their talent pool, enable them to foster a more inclusive workplace and understand how it can also lead to company growth.
“The Viscardi Center has more than 300 employer partners that provide mentoring, internships, and job shadowing opportunities for participants in our vocational training program so they can enter the workforce,” Rosa said in the statement. “This program allows them to see the real value and talent that people with disabilities bring to their companies.”
John’s Crazy Socks has been focused on developing a successful business model as a social enterprise.
“Our socks are the physical manifestation of our social mission to support people with differing abilities,” Mark Cronin said in the statement. “Our goal is to spread happiness – through donating 5% of our earnings to the Special Olympics, by making people happy through our socks, and by showing people what’s possible when they have an inclusive workforce.”
Vanboom said that Northwell Health, the largest private employer in the state, provides its employees with the tools to be inclusive in their everyday responsibilities through training and mentoring.
“We also have a breadth of long-standing programs to hire motivated and skilled individuals with disabilities, which ultimately enhances the patient experience,” Vanboom said.
Moderated by Ellen Labita, partner and professional practice leader at Baker Tilly, the event was hosted by the LIA’s Health, Education and Not-for-Profit Committee. The committee is co-chaired by Kimberly Cline, president of Long Island University and Dr. Patrick O’Shaughnessy, president and CEO of Catholic Health. It is co-vice chaired by Labita and Paule Pachter, president and CEO of Long Island Cares.

Hello Metaverse: Google Fiber To Launch Even Faster Broadband (8 Gigabits) In 2023 WRAL TechWire
Hello, Metaverse: Google Fiber To Launch Even Faster Broadband (8 Gigabits) In 2023 – WRAL TechWire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/hello-metaverse-google-fiber-to-launch-even-faster-broadband-8-gigabits-in-2023-wral-techwire/
by WRAL TechWire — October 14, 2022
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Google Fiber plans to quadruple its fiber internet service offerings to as high as 8 gigabits – and it’s looking for people to test the higher speeds. But not right now in the Triangle, unfortunately.
Currently its fastest offering is 2 gigabits. Xfinity offers the fastest service nationally at 6 gigabits, according to a CNET survey. Two gigabits is the fasts available speed in the Triangle from a variety of providers.
Google Fiber announced this week plans to begin offering 5 gigabit and 8 gigabit service early next year – with those speeds available for download as well as upload. Early testers of the service are being sought in Utah, Kansas City and Des Moines, Iowa.
The fiber provider also plans to include a Wi-Fi router plus as many as two “mesh extenders” for wireless access and installation.
The upgrades come as Google Fiber expands in service footprint in the Triangle and Charlotte. It’s also facing more competition with broadband providers expanding across the state, often boosted into areas lacking service by government grants.
“Google Fiber brought you 1 Gig in 2010, 2 Gig in 2020, and 5 and 8 Gig in 2022 (and we’re already testing 20,000 megabits in the field) … the future is fast, and it’s about to get faster,” says Amalia O’Sullivan, Director of Product Management at Google Fiber.
Broadband provider investing $50M for ultra fast internet in Durham, Orange counties
A promise of “less lag”
Why so much speed? Think metaverse – and beyond.
“While 2 Gig answered the call for many gamers and power streamers, 5 Gig and 8 Gig are designed for even heavier internet users — creative professionals, people working in the cloud or with large data, households with large shared internet demands,” O’Sullivan explains in a blog post. “People who create and utilize large files need the ability to transfer them efficiently. For those who work on the cloud or in real time, like with financial transactions, it’s helpful to know there’s less lag between pushing send and making something happen. 5 Gig and 8 Gig can help these customers take on whatever they need online and be ready for whatever is coming next.”
Prices are $150 a month for 8 gigabits and $125 a month for 5 gigabits.
Current prices are $100 a month for 2 gigabit and $70 a month for one gigabit.
Google Fiber also says there are no contracts required, no data caps, and no installation fees.

If you grew up in the 1990s, then you must have been fond of watching shows like ‘The Flintstones’, ‘The Jetsons’, ‘The Powerpuff Girls’, ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’, and ‘Scooby-Doo’, among others, on Cartoon Network. Watching cartoons for a few hours on TV after coming back from school used to be a common pastime for kids back then in the absence of gadgets like mobile phones and laptops.
Therefore, millennials all over the world are feeling nostalgic after hearing the news that their beloved Cartoon Network will merge with Warner Bros Animation. Netizens took to social media to remember their childhood memories and reminiscence about the shows and iconic characters they watched like ‘Popeye the Sailor’, ‘Bugs Bunny and the Looney Toons’, ‘Courage the Cowardly Dog’, and ‘Johnny Bravo’. Cartoon Network was founded on October 1, 1992.
“It’s an end of an era. End of our old childhood days. Don’t know why but this makes me little emotional. Thank you Cartoon Network for bringing smiles and joy back in the days,” a netizen posted on Twitter.
“It was always Cartoon Network over Disney and Nickelodeon for me,” said another. “Me watching my childhood fade away on twitter everyday,” posted a third. “Thank you for memories. RIP Bro,” said another.
