Redwood Trust and LauraMac are collaborating on the development of new loan acquisition technology. LoanStream Mortgage Cybersecurity is increasingly important to the mortgage industry even as spamming is getting worse, Thomas Shaw, LoanStream Mortgage’s chief marketing and technology officer, told Mortgage Professional America. “Cybersecurity is hugely important today … and I don’t think there’s anything that you’re ever going to do to lessen that. It’s only going to get harder,” Shaw said. He noted that cyberattacks have become more frequent this year in the mortgage industry, despite efforts to manage or stop them. With that in mind, spam has become a particular problem. Read more: LoanStream tech exec role designed for maximum innovation efficiency “We’d love to see a lot of these fraudulent spammers get out of the way,” he said. “There’s just a ton of … spam going on out there [affecting] customers and everybody else that’s really going to muck up the industry,” he said. Mortgage companies, Shaw said, need to keep an eye on cybersecurity and manage closely what is going on within their systems and how they’re being used. “You need to keep your visibility and monitoring across everything you have, and you’re going to need to invest in making that better,” Shaw said. “Make sure you can manage and monitor what’s going on within your systems to prevent any sort of cybersecurity incidents.” Shaw also spoke about mortgage industry technology trends and other tech perspectives. Flueid Real estate technology company Flueid plans to accelerate its product diversification and growth, propelled by $20 million in new financing. That includes $15 million in a Series B raise, and $5 million as a relationship extension with Silicon Valley Bank. Aquiline Technology Growth, a previous investor, led the Series B round, which also included previous investor Commerce Ventures. Flueid’s platform uses title data and insights to fuel real estate transactions. It is designed to unlock data and embed it into core operation systems of point-of-sale platforms, lender operating systems, title production systems, servicing platforms and marketplaces. By doing so, it hopes to enable more efficient decision-making in different parts of the real estate process. The company describes itself as a hybrid of insurtech, proptech and fintech. Its technology has supported more than one million transactions as of summer 2022 while adding purchase and home equity transactions to its platform’s existing refinance capabilities. Flueid is based in Austin, Texas. FirstClose FirstClose brought in a veteran of ICE Mortgage Technology as its new chief marketing officer. Carol Crawford will lead strategy and implementation for brand development, integrated marketing and multi-channel communications efforts. FirstClose is a fintech that provides data and workflow products and services for mortgage and home equity lenders. Crawford has more than 20 years of experience in mortgage and financial services marketing and leadership. Previously, she was senior director at ICE Mortgage Technology, where she handled business strategy and product marketing for ICE’s AIQ and TPO Connect products. Before that, Crawford was chief marketing officer of ClosingCorp, where she, in part, led the account management and marketing teams. Truv Truv launched a new insurance verification product designed to help mortgage and auto lenders instantly verify proof of insurance. The company is an income and employment verification provider. Its new insurance verification product is designed to help mortgage and auto lenders instantly verify 90% of US insurance policyholders in less than a minute. Lenders can embed the Truv Connect bridge into their loan onboarding flow where applicants can login directly to their insurance provider. Once that connection is successfully established, mortgage and auto lenders get more than 100 different data fields from the insurance provider including current coverages, deductibles and premiums. LauraMac LauraMac recently rolled out its new loan acquisition system, a platform that connects sellers, buyers and third-party review (PR) firms to streamline the diligence vendor management process. The system also enables real-time communications and seamless exchange of documents and data without the need for emails or spreadsheets. It offers products designed for mortgage capital markets including document recognition and management, data extraction, loan due diligence, quality control, pricing and transaction management, and service transfer. Redwood Trust/LauraMac Redwood Trust and LauraMac are collaborating on the development of new loan acquisition technology to be used by Redwood and its clients. Redwood is a specialty finance company focused on a number of areas of housing credit, such as providing liquidity to segments of the US housing market not well served by government programs. Founded in 2020, Duelhawk is a newcomer in the gaming chair market, which is highly competitive, with the likes of DXRacer and Secretlab ruling the roost. Needless to say, Duelhawk has a steep mountain to climb. However, its efforts with the Moonrock gaming chair have left us pleasantly surprised. The Duelhawk Moonrock gaming chair introduces a blend of charm, comfort, and customizability that rivals even veteran brands. With a relatively steep asking price of around £499 (or $559 at current rates), does the Moonrock manage to stack up against the stiff competition? Assembly As it typically goes with most gaming chairs, you do need to set the Moonrock up yourself. However, even the most hands-off person will be able to build this chair with few issues. The well-packaged ultra-large box contained a detailed diagram of each piece, complete with large instructions on how to put it together. Along with the clear instructions came a pair of protective gloves and all the tools you need to set up your new chair. Overall, it took about 45 minutes for a very inexperienced furniture builder to put the chair together, and it was incredibly simple to put it together. While we encountered a few frustrations along the way, it was up in a flash, thanks to the tools provided. Design With multiple levers and available adjustments, you can make this chair work around you. Fabric ergonomic gaming chairs are rapidly becoming the norm and are incredibly popular. When taking a look and sitting on the Duelhawk Moonrock, it’s easy to see why. The fabric is soft, clean, and feels premium to the touch. The standard textile design is complemented by a velvet-style trim that elegantly finishes the chair off while also making every element feel soft and embracing. Along with the well-placed choice of material, the chair offers full lumbar support with an adjustable system to help protect anyone’s back from pain. With the support and adjustable elements in mind, the Moonrock comes with a vast array of levers and movable elements including a multifunctional tilt mechanism on the back, extremely versatile armrests, and a memory foam pillow that attaches itself via an elastic strap to the top of the chair. Despite all the additions and supportive elements encompassing the Moonrock’s design, the main element that stood out for us was the larger seat base. It’s deeper than many other gaming chairs and allowed us to sit however we wanted without being limited by space or armrests. The large seat base mixed with the soft fabric and high back forced me to be more engrossed in my games and made me forget about the firmness of the chair. Comfort It’s no secret that the Duelhawk Moonrock won’t make you feel like you’re sitting on a cloud. It’s firm, rigid, and aims to put you into the correct posture for long periods of gaming and working. However, as a lover of comfort over support, this chair made me reevaluate my perspective on how such comfort can be achieved. We were able to sit through eight hours of work a day along with evenings of intense and chilled gaming with little to no uncomfortable feelings and a notably good posture. This helped to take away much of the pain from sitting for most of the day. The larger design allows for some freedom of movement, while the soft fabric ensures you always feel warm and comfortable when sitting on the Moonrock. The only distinct flaw in the chair’s comfort is the memory foam pillow. It’s a solid pillow that uses a rather old-fashioned elastic strap, forcing it to stay high up on the chair. Due to the larger back and the inability to move the pillow lower down, it poses an issue for shorter gamers. This could be fixed by using a similar magnetic solution offered by chairs like the Secretlab Titan EVO 2022. Nevertheless, the pillow is still effective and the overall comfort feels considerably higher with it attached rather than without. Should you buy it? If support if one of your main priorities, as well as the clean and premium design then the Duelhawk Moonrock is the chair for you. If you like sitting on a cloud and maximizing comfort over everything else then this probably isn’t the best option. Ultimately, the Moonrock feels like it gets a lot right. In 2022, when a variety of ergonomic gaming chairs are hitting the market, the Duelhawk Moonrock has really cemented itself into the competitive space, making it a chair to be desired by many. While the product gets plenty of elements right, there are certain aspects that are hard to look past and can be a dealbreaker for some, particularly shorter gamers or ones who prefer more comfort over support. Moreover, due to the newer nature of the company, Duelhawk currently only ships out to the UK and most of Europe, so it’s not available in the US or the rest of the world yet. There is no word on whether this will change in the future so if you don’t live in the UK or Europe then this chair seems to be just out of reach. 7/10 Coming in at £499 for the chair with free shipping included, the product feels like it’s designed for gamers who either work at home or spend long sessions at their desk. When analyzing the adaptability, support, and price of the Duelhawk Moonrock, this is a chair that has real potential, despite the outmoded pillow design and firm padding. While the Moonrock might be a good gaming chair, it doesn’t quite stack up to the likes of the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022. The Duelhawk Moonrock gaming chair is available now.

Murdock Charitable Trust this summer, according to its Summer 2022 Grants Report released Thursday. The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust awarded $26.7 million in grants, with $8.7 million going toward 25 nonprofits serving the Washington community. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra received $600,000 for program expansion to “engage performing arts patrons” according to the report. It was the only nonprofit in Clark County to be awarded a grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust during the summer 2022 grant season. That picture may be even bigger than we can truly comprehend. Because ‘Sustainability’ essentially means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It runs much deeper and wider than conservation and environmentalism. It’s about harnessing all our resources – natural, social, economic and human – for the common good of everyone and everything on our planet. It’s about creating a healthier, fairer and more efficient way of living, pursuing policies and practices that balance Today with Tomorrow – for a planet which (with our cooperation) can be inhabited for many more millennia by countless future generations living in harmony with a thriving ecosystem. Building a sustainable future starts with ‘Us’ Securing that sustainable future is ultimately all about ‘Us’ doing certain things, right now and forever more. Which is why ‘Sustainability’ brings together so many different threads. The Race to Zero is about sustainability. The journey towards a Circular economy is about sustainability. Inclusion and the pursuit of social equity is about sustainability. Decarbonised transport. Heat efficient housing. Given all of that, it’s easy to see why the subject has been passionately embraced as one of the four strategic goals of Cardiff Capital Region. But what are the ‘specifics’ of Sustainability? How did it come to the fore? What does a sustainable world look like? And how will sustainable success be measured? A sustainable future, many years in the making The concept of sustainability may seem relatively new, but the move towards ‘sustainable development’ stretches way back into the twentieth century. By the 1980s, after decades of effort to raise global living standards through industrialisation, many countries around the world were still dealing with extreme poverty. To many, it seemed that economic development came at the cost of ecological health and cohesive communities – and did not lead to long-lasting prosperity. In 1983, the United Nations decided to meet this challenge head-on, appointing former Norwegian prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland to run the World Commission on Environment and Development, with the aim of finding a way to harmonise ecology with prosperity. The resulting report – Our Common Future – effectively ushered in a new consciousness, defining sustainable development as: “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” The Commission had successfully placed ‘sustainability’ on the world’s agenda – as a holistic approach that considers ecological, social, economic and human dimensions, recognising that all of those areas must be valued equally and together. Since that day, the United Nations has worked with governments around the world to shape sustainability policies and practices – with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of 2015 setting out an ambitious agenda in transforming the world for people, planet and prosperity, through 17 goals that include strong governance, addressing climate change, nurturing health and wellbeing, reducing inequalities, delivering quality education and jobs, generating economic growth through industry, innovation and infrastructure – and putting in place the partnerships to deliver these goals. What does ‘People, Planet & Prosperity’ look like? Shaping our societies to create a sustainable prosperity for all people, in harmony with the ecosystem of our planet, is unarguably the greatest challenge facing us as a region, country and species. Our daily news headlines surrounding climate change, food security and deep-rooted inequalities will never change unless we achieve a state of sustainability. And that state is being built on four non-negotiable pillars which have emerged to underpin a sustainable future: HUMAN SUSTAINABILITY Ultimately, our transformation to a sustainable world aims to maintain and improve the human capital in our society. Any investment in health and education, improvement to services, growth in nutrition, access to knowledge or development of skills falls under the wide umbrella of human sustainability. It’s a pillar that places huge responsibility on businesses and indeed anyone involved in making products or providing services: and it’s also a major opportunity for those businesses, producers and providers to become a key part of society’s wider wellbeing. SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY Social sustainability is a world where everyone is included and no one is left behind – where healthy communities are built on modern infrastructure providing universal access to essential services, protected by accountable leadership and good governance. It’s the framework for a stable and healthy society where people feel connected to each other, with the opportunity to grow and fulfil their potential. ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY If social sustainability focuses on improving social equality, economic sustainability aims to improve the standard of living. Sustainability demands economic growth – quality economic growth across a world of nearly eight billion people, so that every human community across the globe is able to maintain their economic independence and enjoy access to the resources they need. Those economic resources include sustainable sources of food, housing, education, finance and livelihoods – the absolute bedrock of modern life – with both the pandemic and Ukrainian conflict showing how fragile economic systems can be. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY Environmental sustainability is critical to protect our ‘natural capital’ and human welfare. For our civilisation to thrive and prosper, it’s vital that the earth’s environmental systems are kept in balance, with natural resources being consumed at a rate where they are able to replenish themselves. Without that environmental sustainability, the world as we know it may not be here for us to inhabit. What does sustainable success look like? Adopting sustainable practices, whether large or small, make significant impacts in the long run. For example, if every office worker in the United Kingdom used one less staple a day by opting for a reusable paper clip, 120 tonnes of steel would be saved in one year. If every home in the UK switched just one light fixture to energy-efficient bulbs, we would reduce our greenhouse emissions by more than 5 million tonnes. So, we all make a difference, every day, whether we’re conscious of our actions or not. The key challenge for governments is measuring the impact of hugely varying activities, assessing their performance against Environmental, Economic and Social principles – and looking to bring a balanced treatment to all three. Because we can’t be “a bit Sustainable”, or “nearly Sustainable.” We’re either ‘Sustainable’, or we’re not. That balance – a so-called Triple Bottom Line – may not always be achievable in every project, but there’s a better chance of achieving this holistic goal when these three principles are applied across a portfolio of projects or an entire planned programme. The UK Government’s policies and programmes are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including a 25 year Environmental Plan, a Clean Growth Strategy, an Industrial Strategy and a People Plan. Welsh Government has taken this ‘People & Planet’ approach even further: becoming the first country in the world to pass a Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act that views everything through the lens of sustainability …  engaging people across Wales in a national conversation on the ‘Wales We Want in 2050’ … legislating sustainable development as the central principle for 44 public bodies … and being instrumental in bringing together key players to carry out sustainable development at the local level. We share this ambition in the Cardiff Capital Region. Sustainability is enshrined in all that we do, as one of the four strategic goals that guide all of our activities. It’s in our DNA and reinforced by a clear commitment to Environment, Sustainability and Governance. This uncertainty is also affecting an aid program initiated by the Camillian Foundation CADIS International in collaboration with CADIS Burkina Faso to support the villagers in the post-pandemic period. Just a few weeks ago there was an attack on a supply convoy on the Djibo-Bourzanga road that killed more than 42 civilians. A part of the CADIS team already had to leave the area and go to a safer place. “The situation has been critical for several months and we have been forced to suspend all travel to Bourzanga,” said Father Marius Soussago, MI, President of CADIS Burkina Faso. The last on-site visit by the CADIS BF team took place on October 28, 2021 and several attempts at on-site visits had to be canceled due to the deteriorating general situation (see Fides, 29/7/2022). “The population of the village where our clinic is located, which we reopened in collaboration with the Sisters of Sainte Marie de Torfou,has moved to safer areas. All the staff of the health center and the community of sisters also left Bourzanga at the end of April 2022” , reports Father Marius. “Although the first phase of the project has been successful and has had a positive impact on the living conditions of the local population and internally displaced people in Bourzanga,” added Bertrand Sawadogo, Parish priest of Bourzanga and local correspondent of the project – we are helplessly witnessing the situation of insecurity which is paralyzing the second phase of the project. Unfortunately, the number of displaced people has quadrupled. We are awaiting the return of our local manager to assess the next steps of the project and we still believe that some activities can continue “. The two-year project, which runs from March 2021 to February 2023, is primarily intended for internally displaced people in the city, 157 km from Ouagadougou, and mainly includes the health and psychosocial care of the displaced population of Bourzanga, the expansion of water supply points and the creation of a healthy living environment by building a well with a solar pump system and water storage tower, and building a canal to supply water to the parish. In addition, the food security of the internally displaced persons is to be improved. Although the means of “CADIS Burkina Faso” are rather modest compared to the extent of their needs, the locals are happy about the courage and the closeness of the aid organization’s employees. “We hope that security will return in the areas where we work and also in other parts of the country. This is necessary so that we can complete the project and carry out reconstruction measures for the return of the internally displaced people to their homes. Tulum has become an extremely popular tourist destination over the past 10 or so years, so I was familiar with the lush green landscape and beautiful beaches from social media and travel publications. When a friend decided to celebrate his 30th birthday in Mexico and ultimately selected Tulum, I jumped at the opportunity to visit the Yucatán Peninsula’s famous Riviera Maya. I even flew down a couple of days early so that I could explore a bit on my own. What are the best times of year to visit? I went in early December, and it felt like the perfect time to visit. The weather was perfectly warm, not too hot, and other than one rainy afternoon, there was pure sunshine. I’ve read that late October through mid-December is an ideal time for visiting Tulum, as it’s less crowded just before peak season ― which runs from late December through March. Hurricane season runs from mid-summer until early fall, so you might want to avoid those months. What’s your best tip for getting there? How can you make the travel as stress-free as possible? Probably the most common way to reach Tulum from the United States is to fly to Cancun International Airport and then take a shuttle, taxi or rental car for a roughly one hour and 40-minute drive. Make sure you arrive with pesos to make the payment process simpler and avoid high exchange rates or ATM fees. I found the arrival process simple enough, though flying back out of the airport was a bit more chaotic. I recommend arriving with plenty of time before your departing flight so that you can navigate each step without any added stress. My trip was split between a rental property on the beach and Aloft Tulum near the city center. As much as I enjoyed the easy access to the water, the hotel portion was particularly nice because it was an easy walk or bike ride into town, and I loved exploring the local shops and eateries. Aloft also had its own rooftop bar, which was a nice way to close out the evenings. If you’re looking to stay by the beach, however, you’ve got ample options. In addition to rental properties, there are a number of hotels, including The Beach Tulum, Las Palmas Maya, Sanara Tulum, Mezzanine and Olas Tulum. What are your go-to restaurants or foods to eat while you’re there? Everything I ate in Tulum was delicious. The dining options range from casual roadside stands to more upscale restaurants like Hartwood and Arca. I tried delicious tacos at Taqueria Honorio, ceviche at El Camello Jr., burritos at Burrito Amor, smoothie bowls at Raw Love and pastries at Italdo Pasteleria. What bars or entertainment spots do you make sure to hit? What’s good to drink there or what else should people know? Tulum has a vibrant bar and club scene. I love trying new cocktails, so I went to Batey to try their famous mojitos. Other drink stops included El Grifo and Casa Jaguar. Gitano is another popular Tulum nightlife spot, and although I’d been to the one in New York, it was still nice to check out the original location. I found wonderful souvenirs at Mixik, World by Hand, La Tiendita and Auras. People love Josa for dresses. Even if you aren’t looking to buy anything, it’s nice to explore all the shops along the jungle-shaded road in the hotel zone. There are lots of wonderful handcrafted wares, apparel and more. What’s your single favorite spot to go for photos and why? My favorite spot to take photos was the Tulum archaeological zone. The Mayan ruins were tremendously impressive and interesting to walk around. And it’s hard to beat the beautiful coastal views there. What tourist attraction should people skip and what should they do instead? I’m always in favor of taking advantage of what is unique about a destination, so I try to avoid places that exist elsewhere. With that in mind, I’d recommend passing on chain clubs and restaurants like Bagatelle in favor of more local fare. Where do you feel the most relaxed, calm or happy? Maybe it’s cliché, but there’s nothing more relaxing than sitting on a scenic beach, especially around sunrise or sunset. Tulum is a popular destination for beach yoga, so you can even amplify the relaxation factor during your beach time. What scenic spots do you recommend checking out? Tulum’s cenotes are world-famous for good reason. With their crystal clear water and limestone formations, these natural sinkholes are stunning places to swim, snorkel, dive or even just admire from dry footing. Additionally, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere is a UNESCO World Heritage Site nature park just south of Tulum, which makes for a beautiful boating excursion one day during your visit. I recommend packing reef-friendly sunscreen. Tulum is part of the Mesoamerican Reef System, and traditional chemical sunscreens have been shown to cause severe damage to coral reefs, so best to steer clear. Make sure to bring pesos so you’re prepared to pay in the local currency without being charged premium exchange rates. ATMs are not in abundant supply either. What are some specific planning tips to know before you go so you’re not stressed? It’s understandable if you want to visit Tulum during the summer for better hotel rates, fewer crowds, and better restaurant availability. But understand that you’ll be there during hurricane season. Try to make refundable bookings and be prepared for potential disruptions in plans. What surprised you about Tulum when you went the first time? I was surprised by the prices compared to other parts of Mexico. Tulum is not necessarily inexpensive. Taxis and certain restaurants and activities can be pricy. Consider renting a bike to get around for cheaper. Anything else visitors should know? Tulum has become a popular tourist destination, but don’t forget you’re on sacred and historic lands. Be considerate of the local community and environment by recycling, avoiding single-use plastics, respecting the wildlife and following all rules in place to preserve and protect the beauty of Tulum.

That’s why the Department of Justice is putting $268,000 into its Project Safe Neighborhood Program. That money goes to help community efforts to combat gun crime. Crawford joins the Beer Institute from the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), where he is executive vice president of government affairs. The position of president and chief executive officer has been vacant since May, after the departure of Jim McGreevy. Celebrating its 160th anniversary, Crawford will lead and represent the Beer Institute before lawmakers, regulators, news media and in public forums. Crawford came to AHLA following eight years in the U.S. House of Representatives, having served five as chief of staff to U.S. Congressman Tom Rooney. They are on hand to provide 12 weeks of free support to help people form healthier habits and reach healthy lifestyle goals, as part of the council’s ongoing commitment to improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities. Residents are being offered tailored support to get active, eat well, lose weight and stop smoking. Guidance provided to residents is personalised and follows evidence and best practice guidance from official health bodies. The 12-week support is client-focused, non-judgmental and free. It can be given in a one-to-one or group setting, face to face at the Town Hall, over the phone or via video call. It is available to anyone who is aged 18 and over, and who lives in Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding villages.
