Bitwage, For Us All Partner To Launch Bitcoin, Crypto 401(K) Plans – Bitcoin Magazine https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/bitwage-for-us-all-partner-to-launch-bitcoin-crypto-401k-plans-bitcoin-magazine/ Bitwage partnered with For Us All to offer Bitcoin and cryptocurrency 401(k) retirement plans. Users will be able to access all of the features available though both companies on one platform. Users can make pre or post-tax contributions, allowing users to avoid capital gains tax on bitcoin in retirement.. Bitwage, a bitcoin and cryptocurrency payroll provider, has partnered with For Us All to offer 401(k) retirement plans with bitcoin, per a release sent to Bitcoin Magazine. For Us All is a fintech company focused on providing high-tech 401(k) plans which support bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Thus, while Bitwage continues to support functions that allow anyone to get paid in BTC, even if their employers don’t like it, those same users can now opt into a bitcoin or crypto-backed 401(k). “Our goal is to provide a complete crypto payroll and benefits suite of services for employers and their workforce,” said Bitwage CEO, Jonathan Chester. Contributions to the 401(k) can be made or a pre-tax or post-tax (Roth) basis. Users leveraging a Roth account would accrue zero capital gains tax on their bitcoin if they waited until retirement age to use the funds available. “ForUsAll is one of the most seamless and compliant services on the market,” said Chester. “Together, we create a one-stop-shop of crypto benefits and services that can scale to thousands of employees.” The partnership between the two companies is supported by a single-sign on experience, meaning users will have access to the full suite of features in one location. Additionally, all Bitwage users will receive three months of fees for the 401(k) plan waived for signing up for an unknown limited time. The new partnership follows a waiting list initially put out by Bitwage to gauge interest in the product, which the company said received “overwhelming” support.

Analysis | Welcome To The Last Hurrah For US Earnings – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/analysis-welcome-to-the-last-hurrah-for-us-earnings-the-washington-post/ The US corporate earnings season could prove to be half decent, but don’t expect the market to celebrate. The prospect of a looming recession is becoming too real for investors to get hung up on last quarter’s success. Consider the economic backdrop. Macroeconomic data suggest that key parts of the US economy have held up until now, which makes it easier for companies to beat modest quarterly earnings projections. New orders for capital goods, which usually track corporate earnings closely, have maintained their upward trajectory. Households have mostly bucked inflation and recession fears to keep spending, as personal consumption expenditures show. And the job market has remained unusually strong. The US is also coming off a second-quarter earnings season that most interpreted as surprisingly adequate, with the outcome helping drive the 17% bear market rally over the summer, the biggest of the year. Analysts expect S&P 500 adjusted earnings per share to be $55.67 for the third quarter, up 2.6% from the period a year earlier. Of course, that partially reflects the strength of oil prices. Excluding energy companies, analysts’ estimates would imply a 3.9% contraction from a year ago. So why is everyone so skittish about earnings again? In the near term, the risks are mostly related to bloated inventories and the strength of the US dollar. In the wake of the supply chain shocks that now appear to have peaked, companies are saddled with packed warehouses and full shelves just as consumers are growing exhausted with inflation, which is translating into steep discounts in some cases. According to Morgan Stanley analysts including Michelle Weaver, consumer retail and tech hardware probably face the greatest threat. The strength of the dollar is another risk for the third quarter, albeit one that should be accounted for in asset prices. About 31% of S&P 500 revenue comes from overseas, down significantly from the 2012 high of 36%, according to Bloomberg Intelligence, and my BI colleague Michael Casper estimates that a 1% appreciation in the greenback translates into a 12-basis-point drag on earnings per share. After the 19% advance in the past year, that translates to a drag of about 2.3 percentage points as multinational companies convert foreign earnings into dollars. All of that being said, analysts have already dropped adjusted third-quarter earnings-per-share estimates by about 7.7% since early June, which may leave room for upside surprises. The outlook for the fourth quarter and 2023 are less rosy, which goes to the heart of the concerns about earnings season: Investors fear the comments that management will issue about the future. Even by its own optimistic projections, the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate increases are likely to push up unemployment next year to 4.4% from the current 3.5%, a magnitude of increase that historically tends to beget even more job losses — unemployment increases don’t come in medium-sized junks; they tend to snowball. It’s disconcerting to imagine how US consumption, which is hanging on by a thread, will react when people start to lose their jobs in significant numbers. Until recently, consumers have been willing to turn to credit cards to maintain their purchasing power, but they will probably grow more reticent as savings accounts start to dwindle and their employment status is on shakier ground. Manufacturing may soon become a significant headwind as well. The Institute for Supply Management’s gauge of US manufacturing fell in September to the lowest since May 2020. At 50.9, it’s now within a hair of the 50 index level that separates expansion and contraction. But with all of that looming, nothing has broken down drastically in the US economy to date — except perhaps the housing market — which means there’s still room for another quarter of positive earnings surprises before the US economy faces its moment of truth. Just don’t expect the market to cheer the small victories this time as they did over the summer. There are just too many concerns about the future to get too carried away with the successes of the past. Hundreds Of Tech And Biotech Layoffs Rattle Bay Area Job Market – The Mercury News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/hundreds-of-tech-and-biotech-layoffs-rattle-bay-area-job-market-the-mercury-news/ REDWOOD CITY — A tech titan and a biotech company revealed plans to chop nearly 300 jobs in the Bay Area, hinting at unsettling prospects for the region’s employment sector. Oracle America has decided to impose job cuts in San Mateo County while BioMarin Pharmaceutical intends to conduct layoffs in Marin County, according to documents filed with the state Employment Development Department. All told, 295 positions are being jettisoned in the Bay Area due to the layoffs, the WARN notices sent to the EDD show. Texas-based Oracle said it chopped 201 jobs on the Peninsula, the WARN notice from the database software firm stated. The Oracle staffing reductions took effect on Oct. 3, the company’s WARN notice stated. “The Redwood Shores Campus is not closing as part of this reduction in force,” Anje Dodson, Oracle senior vice president of human relations, stated in the WARN letter to the EDD. Oracle said the layoffs were conducted from Oct. 3 through Oct. 6, according to the WARN notice. The job cuts affected employees who work in multiple office buildings on Oracle Parkway in Redwood City and on Island Parkway in Belmont. “It is anticipated that these layoffs will be permanent,” Oracle America stated in the WARN letter. Oracle co-founder and executive chairman Lawrence Ellison at the company’s campus in Redwood City, 2009. (Maria J. Avila Lopez/Mercury News) During the summer, Oracle was considering the elimination of thousands of jobs worldwide, with a heavy impact at its offices in the United States, according to media reports. The Oracle job cuts were expected to impact sites in the Bay Area, although no precise numbers had previously been disclosed for any specific region or city. A review of the Oracle employment reductions in the WARN letter revealed that scores of rank-and-file and management employees in areas such as software and product development were dismissed in either Redwood City or Belmont or both. Oracle didn’t break down how many employees the company jettisoned in the two Peninsula cities, respectively. BioMarin Pharmaceutical, which creates therapies for people with serious and life-threatening rare diseases and medical conditions, had signaled in an Oct. 6 post on its website that it was planning a staffing cutback. San Rafael-based BioMarin Pharma said it had embarked on a wide-ranging “redesign” to achieve a “better focus” in its organization, according to the post. “This redesign simplifies the organization, creates efficiencies, reduces the average management layers across the organization and prioritizes and heightens the capabilities required to achieve critical business needs of the future,” BioMarin Pharmaceutical stated. The biotech firm anticipated that the layoffs would affect 120 employees worldwide, or about 4% of its workforce, according to the web post. “Employees were notified on Oct. 5 and 6 and their separation of employment is planned to occur between Dec. 6, 2022 and Jan. 31, 2023,” Angeline Covey, a corporate counsel for BioMarin Pharmaceutical, stated in the WARN notice. Of the 94 Marin County layoffs, BioMarin Pharma decided to cut 62 jobs in San Rafael and 32 in Novato, a post on the EDD website shows. “This change allows us to continue building upon our core strength in genetic discovery,” Jean-Jacques Bienaime, BioMarin’s chief executive officer, stated in the web post.

Yes You Can Still Travel On A Budget During Inflation Nasdaq
Yes You Can Still Travel On A Budget During Inflation Nasdaq
Yes, You Can Still Travel On A Budget During Inflation – Nasdaq https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/yes-you-can-still-travel-on-a-budget-during-inflation-nasdaq/ Published Oct 12, 2022 07:50AM EDT I heard a podcast last week about how runaway inflation in Argentina has caused everyone to party more. Why? When inflation gets really bad, there’s no reason to save cash for a later date since it will only get less valuable. So Argentines tend to spend their paychecks as soon as they come in, filling bars and restaurants and generally living for the moment. It’s macroeconomic YOLO. U.S. inflation is not as bad — or as chronic — as Argentina’s. And prices for many travel expenses have actually begun falling. Airfare prices dropped 9% month-over-month, according to September Consumer Price Index data. Yet it could be some time before prices for anything, including airfare, hotels and rental cars, regain any semblance of stability. Two-thirds of Americans cited “cost” as the most important factor affecting fall trip planning, according to a recent Tripadvisor survey. Yet, despite inflation, half of respondents plan to travel more this season than they did during the same period in the previous year. So travelers aren’t delaying or canceling their plans so much as trying to keep them within budget. What should us budget-conscious travelers do? Throw up our hands and party like Argentines? Know how travel prices have been changing It’s easy to talk about “travel inflation” like it’s some monolithic force, but it’s just the law of supply and demand playing out like it always does. And it hasn’t been affecting every aspect of travel the same way. At first glance, you might think the dark blue line in the chart above represents the hubbub around airfare this summer. But that line represents the cost of renting a car, which has become somewhat less expensive in the last few months, yet remains 46% higher than pre-pandemic rates. Hotels and airfare, while more expensive than they were throughout much of the pandemic, have nearly come back to baseline. And “food away from home” (e.g., restaurant food) has steadily and sneakily crept up to 17% above pre-pandemic prices, according to September CPI data. What does this mean for travel budgeting? Your intuitive sense of how much it will cost to rent a car in Hawaii — or order a steaming plate of loco moco — are probably wrong. And your worst-case expectations for the price of airfare and hotels are probably overblown. It also means that it will be easier to trim budgets by reducing plans that depend on rental cars or eating out. Booking a hotel room with a kitchen might not be cost-effective under normal circumstances, but it could be this year. And visiting a destination with good public transportation, like a European city, will avoid those eye-watering rental car prices. Lock in flexible prices Trying to figure out whether now is a good time to book travel to avoid future price hikes is like trying to figure out whether it’s a good time to buy stocks. The truth is that nobody knows. Yet travel bookings differ from investments in one crucial way: They can often be canceled or rebooked if prices drop. Flexible travel bookings can help you travel more cheaply. For example, let’s say you’re planning a trip later this fall and are pondering whether to book a hotel now or wait to see if prices drop. The reality is that you can do both: Book a flexible room rate now, lock in the price, then cancel and/or rebook if prices drop. It’s a tails-you-win, heads-you-win situation. If prices go up, you’ll have snagged a lower rate. If prices go down, you can modify your booking and save. The same logic applies to rental cars and air travel, assuming the bookings are flexible. Watch out for “flexible” bookings that carry restrictions or other limitations. And don’t go wild booking every flight and expecting to cancel them later for your money back. Airfare refunds are often issued as vouchers or travel credit, not cash. Use those points and miles My colleague and I just crunched hundreds of data points comparing the cost of travel using points and miles versus cash and found something surprising: The per-point value for most travel rewards programs actually went up in 2022. Meaning points and miles are actually deflating while cash prices inflate. (More accurately, cash prices have gone up while point and mile prices have remained less affected, which has had the mathematical effect of driving up the relative value of points and miles.) The point is, it’s a good time to use points and miles, especially those of programs that still use an award chart. Award charts keep the price of points relatively stable, and differ from programs that use dynamically priced awards that are tied to the cash value of a given redemption. Hyatt hotels, for example, offers a screaming 2.8 cents-per-point value in our 2022 valuations, up from 1.9 cents per point in 2021. This jump in value is largely due to its award chart. Marriott, meanwhile — which eliminated its award chart earlier this year — hangs steady at 0.7 cents per point year-over-year. In terms of budgeting, it’s always a good idea to compare the value of points to the cost in dollars. But in general, as long as cash prices are high, consider using rewards. Skip the stress Will travel prices keep dropping? Will car rentals ever be affordable again? Honestly, we don’t know. And unless you’re the type who budgets their travel down to every last cent, you don’t need to try to optimize every last travel expense. Inflation may be on an upward trajectory, and though travel prices may be up across the board, that doesn’t mean you should blow your savings on a vacation to the Maldives. Your dollars aren’t about to be as worthless as toilet paper. We’re not at the Argentine YOLO stage … yet. Johnston Carmichael Takes Kiltwalk 2022 In Their Stride Scottish Business News
Johnston Carmichael Takes Kiltwalk 2022 In Their Stride – Scottish Business News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/johnston-carmichael-takes-kiltwalk-2022-in-their-stride-scottish-business-news/ INDEPENDENT business advisory and accountancy firm, Johnston Carmichael, has put forward a united front at this year’s Kiltwalk, with 130 staff and partners taking part across all four events and raising £21,688, for 46 charities. Edinburgh’s event, held on Sunday 18 September, marked the final Kiltwalk of the year, with 67 members of Johnston Carmichael’s staff and partners lacing up their boots and taking some mighty strides around the capital in support of 27 different charities including Alzheimer Scotland, Trussell Trust, and Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. Johnston Carmichael has been a gold sponsor of Scotland’s favourite mass participation charity event for the past six years as part of its commitment to supporting the communities in which its 850 staff and partners live and work. The £21,688 total includes the 50 per cent top up from Sir Tom Hunter and the Hunter Foundation. The business, which was founded in Elgin more than 80 years ago, has 13 offices across the UK. For many at Johnston Carmichael, the Edinburgh Kiltwalk proved to be extremely emotional, with a number walking to raise funds for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland in memory of Tax Partner Peter Young who sadly died from a heart attack last year. Peter was integral to the firm, taking a keen interest in the education and upskilling of the next generation of tax professionals as well as being a hands-on proactive tax adviser. Joining the Johnston Carmichael team was John Todd, a now-retired Tax Partner from the firm’s Inverness office. John suffered a heart attack in 2021 and retired in 2022 due to ongoing health issues. John, who received support from Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland to aid his recovery, completed the Wee Wander with his colleagues in support of the charity. Susie Walker, Head of Tax, Johnston Carmichael said: “I am so proud of all my colleagues that have taken part in this year’s Kiltwalk events – whether they took a wee wander or some mighty strides in their tartan. We smashed our original target of 100 walkers, and then some.  “It has been a privilege to use this year’s event to celebrate two of the firm’s influential Tax Partners. We all had Peter and his family in our hearts and minds as we completed our Edinburgh Kiltwalk. Both Peter and John had an enormous impact on everyone they worked with, both professionally and privately.   “Every year, Kiltwalk provides an excellent opportunity for the Johnston Carmichael team to come together, bond and serve the local communities that we live in. Here’s to 2023!”

A healthy diet can reduce inflammatory reactions from the body that produce pain in addition to the use of medications. Eating the right foods also aids in maintaining a healthy weight, which is crucial because the majority, if not all, of your body weight, is supported by your hips and knees.  Regardless of whether you stick to a particular diet plan or not, routinely include the following items on your plate while reducing your intake of unhealthy foods. This may help relieve your sore joints and may even prevent the worsening of arthritis.  Add these 8 superfoods to your diet if you have Arthritis: 1. Olive oil Oleocanthal and omega-3 fatty acids, which have exceptional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, are abundant in olive oil. Additionally, it aids in preventing pro-inflammatory enzymes from significantly thickening the synovial membrane and resulting in discomfort. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are advised to use olive oil when preparing food. 2. Broccoli One of the most nutritious vegetables is broccoli. In fact, it could even be linked to reducing inflammation. Furthermore, broccoli has vital nutrients that may lessen the signs and symptoms of arthritis. Like sulforaphane, a substance found in broccoli that has been linked to the prevention of the development of rheumatoid arthritis. 3. Ginger  Ginger and its compounds prevent the body from producing chemicals that cause inflammation. In addition to this, ginger extract may lower levels of a certain inflammatory marker linked to arthritis. Consuming ginger in its fresh form, powdered, or dried forms may help to lessen arthritic symptoms and inflammation. 4. Onions Quercetin, a bioflavonoid antioxidant that reduces inflammation, is abundant in onions. It efficiently eliminates free radicals from arthritic joints and controls the release of enzymes that break down proteins. Onions are a prominent part of Indian dishes and can be consumed in various different ways. 5. Banana A banana is an extremely nutritious food that is rich in potassium, vitamins, and folic acid. It is well known that potassium-rich bananas assist in reducing arthritis-related joint pain as well as salt retention and bone mass loss. Furthermore, it possesses anti-calcification qualities that considerably enhance bone health.  6. Garlic Garlic has been proven to have an anti-inflammatory impact that may aid in reducing arthritic symptoms. Even certain immune cells may perform better when garlic is present, strengthening the immune system. Garlic may reduce the symptoms of arthritis and improve general health. 7. Green tea Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a particular antioxidant, and polyphenols, both of which are abundant in green tea, contribute greatly to reducing inflammation and discomfort. While polyphenols aid in reducing or restricting the degradation of cartilage, EGCG aids in preventing the activity of a chemical that harms joints in RA patients. 8. Fatty fish Salmon and tuna are among the fatty fish species that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been found to have strong anti-inflammatory properties. Vitamin D, which can help prevent insufficiency, is also abundant in fish. Low vitamin D levels have been linked to rheumatoid arthritis in several studies, which may add to symptoms. Add these nutrient-dense superfoods to your diet if you want to further improve the health of your bones and joints.  Disclaimer: This content including advice provides generic information only. Gateway To Metaverse? Met’s New VR Set Is Impressive (Watch These Videos) But … – WRAL TechWire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/gateway-to-metaverse-mets-new-vr-set-is-impressive-watch-these-videos-but-wral-techwire/ by Rachel Metz, CNN Business — October 12, 2022 . By Rachel Metz, CNN Business Meta’s newest virtual-reality headset, the Meta Quest Pro, is a slick, powerful device. It can display text and fine details in VR, making it possible to read even small type with ease. It can track your eyes and facial features, giving you a sense of connection with other people in virtual spaces: If you arch your eyebrows or they puff up their cheeks in real life, so too will the VR avatars. And it can be used as a mixed-reality headset, showing you a view of the world around you in color while letting you interact with digital objects — whether you’re painting on an ersatz easel or putting on a faux mini-golf course. But the black headset, which Meta unveiled on Tuesday during an online event, is probably not in your price range. At $1,500 ($1,499.99, to be precise), it costs nearly four times that of the company’s cheapest Quest 2 headset. Its price, power, and potential are aimed more toward businesses — think architects and designers — with pockets deep enough to shell out for the headset, and some creative and die-hard VR users. Buyers can pre-order the Quest Pro as of Tuesday, and it will ship out on October 25. It can be purchased online directly from Meta, and in the United States it can also be bought at Best Buy stores, via Best Buy’s website, and through Amazon. The capabilities of the Quest Pro mark an important milestone for Meta (and for CEO Mark Zuckerberg), which has spent years and billions of dollars steering toward a future where it believes people will spend more and more time in virtual spaces and mixing digital elements with the real world. The company’s VR unit, Reality Labs, is still tiny compared to its main business of selling ads on Facebook and Instagram, and costly: Meta said it lost $2.8 billion during the second quarter of this year because of Reality Labs. It’s also a major strategy shift, showing the company is now pushing its best VR technology to business customers, hoping they’ll be eager to use VR and mixed-reality apps at work. It’s a plan that could be lucrative, though it risks alienating its consumer VR business (the company plans, from here on out, to have two Quest product lines and to use the higher-end one to decide which features to add to the less expensive one). This shift may unnerve companies such as Microsoft and Magic Leap, which have been working for years to convince enterprise users that their pricier mixed-reality headsets represent the future of work. (Microsoft, maker of the mixed-reality HoloLens headset, is apparently hedging its bets by bringing its software to the Quest Pro and Quest 2, in a partnership announced Tuesday at Meta’s Connect event, which focuses on its latest advances in virtual reality and related technologies.) And it’s not clear whether — or how — this powerful device will help Meta popularize the so-called metaverse, which Zuckerberg believes so strongly in that he rechristened Facebook as Meta in 2021. Meta is the leader in the nascent VR headset market with its consumer-geared Quest 2 headset, but that market is still tiny compared to, say, console gaming. I spent several hours using the Quest Pro last week at a Meta office near San Francisco, coming away both impressed and flummoxed. It was quickly clear that it’s not intended to be a headset for the masses — a decision that will frustrate some Quest 2 owners waiting for an upgrade to the two-year-old headset. Yet it does offer a glimpse of what VR and mixed-reality experiences may be like in the coming years: better looking, more fun, and increasingly intuitive. Eye and face tracking The Quest Pro looks markedly different from the Quest 2, as Meta took the battery out of the main body of the headset, curved it, and moved it behind the wearer’s head. This, plus a dial on the back of the head strap that lets you adjust it precisely (making it much easier for those of us who wear glasses to keep them on in VR), gives it a layout reminiscent of HoloLens 2. The dial also makes it easier to get the headset on and off, especially if you have long hair. Unfortunately, this new layout may mean that some people find it less comfortable to wear, particularly over an extended period of time. With the increased weight behind my head and just a knob to adjust the single strap around my noggin, I had to keep adjusting it slightly. I wore multiple identical headsets over the course of roughly two hours; after six different demos, ranging from virtual painting to DJing, I left with a headache. One of the most noteworthy new features on the Quest Pro is its ability to track the wearer’s eyes and face — something that may make people feel more present when interacting with other avatars in virtual spaces. To do this, the headset uses five infrared sensors to capture details like where you gaze and whether you sneer, smile, frown, or raise an eyebrow. This tracking is turned off by default; Meta also said that it’s processing eye and face images on the headset and then deleting them, and that this will be the case even for developers who add this tracking to their apps. I tried this new tracking out while playing around with a demo of a green-faced alien character, named Aura, that Meta is making available to developers so they can get a feel for how it works. With the Quest Pro on my head, I could smile, sneer, wink, scrunch up my eyes, wiggle my nose, and so on, while Aura did the same, in real time (unfortunately, there is no tongue tracking). The responsiveness and specificity of Aura’s facial mimicry was impressive, even at this early stage. This kind of tracking feels like a step in the direction of what Zuckerberg promised was coming after he was widely criticized online in August for a Facebook post featuring an image of his blocky, cartoon-like avatar in Meta’s flagship social app, Horizon Worlds. Upon its release, Quest Pro users will be able to use it in that app and Horizon Workrooms, Meta said, as well as in several developers’ apps such as painting app Painting VR and DJ app Tribe XR. Updated hand controllers The headset is also more of a mixed-reality headset than a VR headset, as it isn’t meant to block out all ambient light all the time. This is a big departure from Meta’s past focus on immersive VR, where your physical surroundings were typically more of an obstacle than an asset. Meta is including magnetic light-blocking panels that can pop on to the sides to cut out more light, and starting in late November, it will also sell a $50 accessory meant to fully block out ambient light. Letting some surrounding light in is part of the company’s effort to make headset wearers feel in touch with their physical surroundings. To build on this, the Quest Pro uses outward-facing cameras on the headset to let you see your surroundings in color (rather than black and white, as on the Quest 2), and continues Meta’s recent push toward getting apps to interact with the real world. This was on display during a demo in which I used Painting VR to paint on a virtual canvas, moving around a real-world space set up with a virtual brush and tool stand on one side of the canvas and a shelf of paint cans on the other. I could mix paints, grab brushes, and post my finished (and admittedly awful) painting on the actual wall behind me, all while seeing what was happening around me and getting advice from the app’s creator. The hand controllers that accompany the Quest Pro will also play an important role in both VR and mixed-reality apps, and they’ve been vastly improved over the ones that come with the Quest 2. Now, rather than relying on the headset to help determine where the controllers are in space, each controller includes three sensors to shoulder the load. This means they can track 360 degrees of motion, which should make for smoother and better hand and arm tracking in all kinds of apps. (Sadly, they won’t track your legs in VR, but Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday that Meta will be using AI to bring full-body avatars into Horizon Worlds sometime in the future.) A pressure sensor on each controller enables more precise motions than with the current Quest 2 controllers. I tried this out with a demo in which I was able to pick up and toss around a variety of small objects like a teacup, blocks, and a garden gnome. I found that if I picked up the teacup gently, particularly by the handle, I wouldn’t harm it; if I grabbed it, however, I crushed it (I mostly crushed it). The things the Quest Pro and these controllers can do without connecting to a powerful computer or setting up a slew of external sensors seemed impossibly far away when then-Facebook bought VR headset maker Oculus in 2014. At that time, most people didn’t even consider VR a mass-market technology; eight years and billions of dollars later, we know and expect more. The headset may deliver technologically, but it will be up to Meta’s customers to decide whether it’s worth the price. The-CNN-Wire & © 2022 Cable News Network, Inc., a Warner Bros. Best Crypto To Buy During The Dip In 2022 – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/best-crypto-to-buy-during-the-dip-in-2022-cryptonews/ Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com. Crypto prices are down considerably throughout the industry and this has been the case since the markets peaked in late 2021. While nobody wishes to experience a bearish cycle, this does offer the opportunity to scope up some top-rated crypto assets at a huge discount. The purpose of this market insight is to analyze the 8 best crypto to buy during this dip to take advantage of the current bear cycle. The 8 Best Crypto to Buy on the Dip The list below offers a quick overview of the best crypto to buy during the crash: IMPT – Overall Best Crypto to Buy During This Dip Tamadoge – P2E Gaming Platform With Metaverse and NFT Features Battle Infinity – Low-Cap Gem Building a Decentralized Fantasy Sports Game Lucky Block – NFT Reward and Competition Project With Huge Upside Potential DeFi Coin – Undervalued DeFi Ecosystem About to Hit the Market Bitcoin – Buy the World’s Most Popular Crypto Asset at a 70% Discount Ethereum – Large-Cap Smart Contract Blockchain That Remains Undervalued BNB – Proprietary Cryptocurrency Backed by Binance Many of the projects listed above have been hit hard by the crypto winter that we currently find ourselves in. As a result, this offers an attractive entry point for long-term investors – in preparation for the next bull run. Visit IMPT Presale Now Analyzing the Best Cryptos to Buy During the Crash Just because a crypto asset is trading at a huge discount when compared to its prior all-time high, this doesn’t automatically make it a sound investment. Investors should instead take a step back before risking any capital and conduct in-depth research on the many options available in this bear market. In this section, we analyze the best crypto to invest in during the crash so that traders can make an informed decision. 1. IMPT – Overall Best Crypto to Buy During This Dip Concerns for the environment continue to increase on a global scale, with many governments committed to reaching carbon neutrality by 2030. From an investment perspective, this has resulted in huge interest in carbon credit stocks, in addition to renewable energy stocks. With that being said,  perhaps a better option to consider is IMPT – which is arguably the greenest cryptocurrency to invest in during this market. For those new to this project, IMPT is a recently founded blockchain project that is building a global credit carbon ecosystem. The overarching objective of the project is to provide a gateway for businesses to reduce their carbon footprint. This can goal will be achieved not only through blockchain but IMPT tokens. In a nutshell, investors can buy IMPT tokens and subsequently decide to do one of two things. After making the purchase – which is backed by an NFT, environmentally-conscious stakeholders can burn their IMPT tokens. This will reduce the token holder’s carbon footprint and thus – help combat climate change. The second option will appeal to those that wish to make investment gains. Put simply, the value of the IMPT token will allegedly mirror that of global carbon credit prices. This means that if prices increase, so could the IMPT token. According this most eco-friendly crypto, the carbon offset market will be worth over $700 million by 2027. As such, this market is expected to grow considerably over the coming years. In the meantime, investors can gain exposure to IMPT via its ongoing presale campaign. This offers early investors the opportunity to buy IMPT tokens at a discounted price of $0.018 and gain exposure to one of the best carbon offset programs in 2022.  Once the current allocation of IMPT tokens is sold, the presale price will increase to $0.023. As such, investors with an interest in this project will need to get in early to get the best price possible. For more information investors can explore the IMPT whitepaper as well as join the official Telegram group with over 12.3k subscribers. Chain Ethereum Standard ERC-20 Token Price $0.0180 End Date 1st December 2022 (Stage 1) Vesting Unlock Token Generation Event Team Denis Creighton (CEO), Mike English (CTO), Hugh Phelan (CLO) Visit IMPT Presale Now 2. Tamadoge – P2E Gaming Platform With Metaverse and NFT Features Tamadoge continues to trend in the crypto market even though we are firmly in a bearish cycle. The reason for this is two-fold. First, Tamadoge recently executed its much-anticipated crypto presale, whereby the project raised its hard cap total of $19 million in a matter of weeks. Second, the project was then accepted by tier-one exchange OKX for its first centralized and decentralized listing, marking one of the best IEO cryptos to buy this year. This was a huge success, with the value of Tamadoge increasing 10-fold within a few days. Fortunately for those that missed out on the initial buying pressure, the price of Tamadoge has since witnessed a market correction. With that said, CoinMarketCap notes that Tamadoge was originally priced at $0.021 upon listing on OKX. As of writing, Tamadoge is trading at just over $0.037. This means that in just a couple of weeks of trading, Tamadoge investors are looking at gains of 80%. In comparison, most crypto assets have barely moved in recent weeks – with the likes of Bitcoin still staring at a decline of 70% from its pre-bear market peak. Another reason why Tamadoge could be the best crypto to buy during this dip is that its market capitalization sits below $40 million. As such, Tamadoge is arguably one of the most undervalued crypto assets as of writing. In terms of the project itself, Tamadoge has begun building a play-to-earn game that offers crypto rewards and NFTs. Players will need to mint, feed, breed, and care for a virtual Tamadoge pet before entering battles with the view of winning TAMA tokens. To buy Tamadoge today, the digital token can be purchased at OKX, Uniswap, LBank, Bitmart, BKEX, and MEXC. Buy Tamadoge Now 3. Battle Infinity – Low-Cap Gem Building a Decentralized Fantasy Sports Game Long-term investors that seek hugely undervalued cryptocurrencies to buy might wish to explore Battle Infinity. This project is also building a play-to-earn game that offers crypto rewards in IBAT tokens in addition to NFT ownership. The first multiplayer game to hit the Battle Infinity platform is the IBAT Premier League. This is a take on fantasy sports but on the blockchain protocol. Successful players will win IBAT tokens by creating a fantasy sports team that performs well in the real world. Battle Infinity will eventually offer immersive gaming experiences from within its very own metaverse – the Multiverse. So if you’re wondering how to invest in the metaverse, Battle Infinity could be a great option to consider. The Multiverse will also host staking tools, a decentralized exchange, and an NFT marketplace. As of writing, Battle infinity is just a couple of months into its play-to-earn development journey. The project hosted its presale with a hard cap target of just over $5 million – or about 16,500 BNB. Put simply, Battle Infinity achieved this goal in just 24 days. The presale campaign offered IBAT tokens at a fixed price of $0.0015. Since launching on both PancakeSwap and Lbank, IBAT has gone on to hit an all-time high of $0.0055. This represents growth of over 260% since the presale. However, IBAT is still one of the best crypto to buy during the crash – considering that as of writing, it is trading at 45% below its former peak. Potential investors might consider joining the Battle Infinity Telegram to get real-time updates on the development of the Multiverse in addition to upcoming exchange listings. Buy Battle Infinity Now 4. Lucky Block – NFT Reward and Competition Project With Huge Upside Potential  Lucky Block was founded in January 2022 with the view of revolutionizing the global competition space. It is already achieving this goal through its NFT-backed competition platform that is built on top of the blockchain protocol. In its most basic form, people can enter a Lucky Block competition by purchasing a Lucky Block NFT. Each NFT collection is assigned to a specific competition – which includes a Lamborghini, 5-star package holidays, and $1 million worth of Bitcoin. Each NFT that is purchased amounts to one entry into the chosen competition. Once the respective NFT collection sells out, the competition draw then takes place via a secure smart contract. What’s more, both winners and losers will continue to receive LBLOCK tokens simply for keeping hold of the NFT. This offers an incentive to enter competitions considering that passive income will continue to be earned indefinitely. Lucky Block also offers its Platinum Rollers Club NFT series. This in itself offers a full suite of perks, such as having access to a lifetime competition draw. Each NFT from within this collection has its own number, which represents a ticket entry to the weekly prize draw. Another way to gain exposure to Lucky Block is to buy the LBLOCK token, which trades on several of the best crypto exchanges. V1 of the token – which follows the BSc standard, is traded on PancakeSwap. V2 – which follows the ERC-20 standard, trades on Uniswap, LBank, MEXC, and Gate.io. After studying its price trajectory, the LBLOCK token is available to purchase at a huge discount right now, which makes it one of the best crypto to buy during the crash. Buy Lucky Block Now 5. DeFi Coin – Undervalued DeFi Ecosystem About to Hit the Market  Next up on this list of the best crypto to buy during the crash is DeFi Coin. As of writing, DeFi Coin is trading at a hugely undervalued market capitalization of just $840k, making it one of the most undervalued cryptos on the market. While ther...

US Midterm Elections: Why Are They So Important? BBC
US Midterm Elections: Why Are They So Important? BBC
US Midterm Elections: Why Are They So Important? – BBC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/us-midterm-elections-why-are-they-so-important-bbc/ Image source, Getty Images By Anthony Zurcher North America reporter The US elections on 8 November will have an enormous impact on the direction of the nation, as well as the fate of the person and the party in power in the White House. Joe Biden is not on the ballot – the midterms decide who controls Congress as well as state legislatures and governor’s offices. But the outcome will influence the playing field for the 2024 presidential campaign, and especially the odds of Donald Trump running again. Here are five reasons why these elections are so important: Abortion rights or restrictions This is a textbook case for understanding how midterm voting can directly influence the shape of future policies and the day-to-day lives of Americans across the country. In June the Supreme Court overturned constitutionally protected abortion rights. Both parties have already proposed new federal abortion legislation if they control Congress in the coming year. Democrats promise to codify into federal law abortion rights that were protected by the Supreme Court’s Roe vs Wade decision. Republicans have proposed a national ban on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, a rule that would supersede existing protections in Democratic-run states like California, Illinois and New York. Abortion rights will also play out in individual states, where the outcome of key governor and legislative races in traditional political battlegrounds like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arizona and Michigan could directly determine the legality of the procedure in those states. Image source, Getty Images Image caption, The battle over abortion is expected to drive up voter turnout. Who wins control at the federal and state levels will also impact what other policies are focused on. If Republicans prevail, expect immigration, religious rights and addressing violent crime to be a priority. For Democrats, the environment, healthcare, voting rights and gun-control will continue to remain high on the agenda. The power to investigate and obstruct The midterm elections will have an impact well beyond policy circles, however. For two years, congressional oversight has been under Democratic control, limiting the amount of scrutiny the White House has faced and making the 6 January riot the primary focus of its investigations. All that will change if Republicans take control of one chamber of Congress – or both. Already House Republicans are promising hearings on Joe Biden’s son Hunter’s business ties to China, as well as a detailed investigations into the Biden administration’s immigration policies, the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. If Republicans also take control of the US Senate, expect the process for confirming Biden picks to the federal courts and executive agencies to grind to a standstill. Joe Biden’s future Midterm elections are typically considered a referendum on the first two years of a presidential term – with the party in power often taking a beating. Mr Biden’s approval ratings have been poor for more than a year. While Democratic fortunes appear to have recovered somewhat, high inflation and concerns about the economy mean the party still faces an uphill battle to hold both chambers of Congress. Image source, Getty Images Image caption, During Biden’s presidency, Democrats have been in control of Congress, but that could change after the midterms In his first two years as president, Mr Biden has managed to enact substantive legislation on climate change, gun-control, infrastructure investment and child poverty despite his narrow majorities in Congress. If one of those chambers switches to the Republicans, however, the window for accomplishment will slam closed for the rest of the president’s first term in office. A negative result will quickly be interpreted as a sign of Mr Biden’s continued political weakness – and could renew calls for Mr Biden to step aside for another Democrat when the 2024 presidential campaign season begins. Donald Trump’s 2024 ambitions Unlike recent defeated presidents, Mr Trump has not left politics quietly. He appears to still harbour interest in returning to the White House in 2024 – and the midterms could strengthen his hand or dash his hopes. While he’s not on the ballot, dozens of his chosen candidates are running in high-profile races across the US. The former president was able to elevate some Senate candidates, like former football player Herschel Walker in Georgia, television doctor Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania and populist author JD Vance in Ohio, over more traditional Republican politicians, despite the objections of elder Republican leaders. If they win, it could prove that his political instincts are sharp – and his brand of conservative politics has national appeal. But if Republicans fall short in Congress, and it’s because of the failure Mr Trump’s unconventional handpicked candidates, the former president could shoulder the lion’s share of the blame. Such an outcome would bolster the hopes of Mr Trump’s presidential rivals within the party. Both Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Governor Greg Abbott are up for re-election in November, and could use the results as a springboard for their own campaign to win the Republican nomination in 2024. Media caption, Trump: The Comeback? Katty Kay explores the state of US democracy The fate of American democracy The 2022 midterms will be the first federal elections since the 6 January attack on the US Capitol, and the shadow of the event – and the actions by Donald Trump and his loyalists in the months leading up to it – still cast a long shadow over US politics. Far from chastened by the riot, the former president has continued to question the results of the 2020 presidential election and has actively supported Republican candidates across the US who deny Mr Biden’s presidential victory. Many of these candidates, like secretary of state nominees Mark Finchem in Arizona and Jim Marchant in Nevada and governor candidate Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania, are running for offices where they will have at least some control over their state’s electoral systems heading in to the 2024 presidential contest. In 2020, despite the former president’s efforts, Republican officeholders in multiple states narrowly won by Mr Biden refused to reverse the originally certified voting tallies in their jurisdictions. Two years from now, if a similarly contested election takes place, the outcome of these kinds of challenges could be quite different.

Patient Engagement Technology Market Report 2022: Measurable Improvements In Hospital Safety & Care Quality Drives Adoption – ResearchAndMarkets.com – Business Wire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/patient-engagement-technology-market-report-2022-measurable-improvements-in-hospital-safety-care-quality-drives-adoption-researchandmarkets-com-business-wire/ DUBLIN–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The “Patient Engagement Technology an Innovative Tool for Healthcare Industry, Global End User Market Trends and Analysis – (Price Analysis, Replacement Trends and Factor Analysis, Selection Criteria, Buying Behavior and Mobile health)” report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering. The global patient engagement technology market is projected to reach USD 27.9 billion by 2027 from USD 17.3 billion in 2022, at a CAGR of 10.0%. Extensive research on the patient engagement technology market has brought to light that when patients are engaged in their health care, it leads to measurable improvements in hospital safety and quality of care. Active patient engagement is a prerequisite to better healthcare delivery. Considering the ongoing and rapid change occurring in the healthcare industry, hospitals are focusing on various ways to engage their patients to improve the care delivery process and allow informed decision making by physicians. The major factors driving the growth of this market include the growing awareness among patients about the benefits of PES; increased patient understanding about the regular monitoring of health conditions; easy availability, accessibility, and deployment of PES; growing demand for improved quality of care; increasing burden of chronic diseases and the focus of patients on self-managing their care using mobile solutions; and the growing healthcare mandates and incentives for adopting IT solutions in healthcare (such as the Affordable Care Act, implementation of ICD-11, and the Meaningful Use program). These acts encourage healthcare stakeholders to adopt patient engagement solutions and achieve goals such as reducing readmission rates and improving connections between care providers and patients. Patient engagement solutions offer benefits such as cost reductions, reduced readmission rates, enhanced staff productivity, and management of patients across the care continuum. Despite these numerous benefits, certain barriers such as the requirement of healthcare information technology (HCIT) infrastructure, high cost of installation in developing countries, and health information safety concerns are restraining the growth of this market. Aligned with this trend, healthcare providers, payers, and patients are increasingly adopting patient engagement technology that provides benefits to them as well as their patients and customers. Below is the list of some of the benefits of Patient Engagement Technology: Benefits To Clinics And Hospitals (Providers)/Payers Increased patient satisfaction and experience Improved clinical outcomes and quality of care More timely appointments and reduced rate of no-shows Assistance in meeting Meaningful Use (MU) criteria Reduction in hospital readmission rates Increased patient retention Reduce overall cost Benefits To Patients Easy access to health information – Patients can easily access medical information anytime, anywhere through patient engagement technology or platform Easy communication between patient and provider – E-visits and secure messaging aids patients communicate with providers using their mobile devices. Republicans Hope To Flip Nevada Seats Testing Democrats Reid Machine The Washington Post
Republicans Hope To Flip Nevada Seats, Testing Democrats’ ‘Reid Machine’ – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/republicans-hope-to-flip-nevada-seats-testing-democrats-reid-machine-the-washington-post/ LAS VEGAS — Karla Pike calls herself liberal and opposed the end of Roe v. Wade. But she blames Democrats for the rising costs now stretching her retirement budget, and she singled out one for criticism: Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto. “I hate to admit it because I didn’t care for them before, but … things were cheaper when the Republicans were in office,” Pike, a former flight attendant in her 70s, said on her way to a grocery store, echoing many others in the state who were dismayed at the economy. She compared her vote this fall to flipping a coin. Here in Nevada, a crucial midterm battlefront where Republicans haven’t won a Senate race in a decade and have come up short in other key races, economic woes have raised the GOP’s hopes of flipping seats throughout the ballot, according to interviews with voters, candidates and strategists, as well as a review of polling. The financial strains are testing Democrats’ ability to retain and turn out the minority, working-class voters who have long helped power them to victory. Nevada has one of the highest inflation rates in the country; gas prices still hover above $5.50 per gallon, sometimes surpassed only by California. High costs and economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic have hit communities Democrats hope to get to the polls hard, adding to the challenges of a lower-turnout midterm year. Republicans say they see a chance to make inroads in this diverse state, where a high proportion of residents do not have college degrees. The GOP’s ability to harness frustrations could help determine control of the Senate as well as the outcome of competitive contests for governor, the House and secretary of state, a post overseeing elections in a 2024 battleground. Democrats have long braced for tough reelection fights in a state where President Biden won by just over two percentage points. They have a formidable line of defense: the “Reid machine,” a sprawling get-out-the-vote operation that is named for the late Senate majority leader who helped create it, Harry M. Reid, and includes the powerful Culinary Workers Union. But some recent polling shows GOP candidates here chipping away at Democrats’ lead with Latino voters. The state has replaced the jobs it lost as the pandemic shuttered Nevada’s tourism industry, state officials say, but nearly 1 in 5 members of the 60,000-strong Culinary Workers Union have yet to get their old jobs back. At a recent gubernatorial debate, a panel of voters included a Culinary Workers Union member who was undecided and said her top issue was inflation. “To the extent that there ever was a time when Democrats might lose some of their base, this would be that election,” said Tick Segerblom, a Democrat who is seeking reelection as a commissioner for Clark County, which includes Las Vegas. If Democrats can pull through this year — “I think we can” — that should give them confidence for years to come, he added. The Senate race pits Cortez Masto, who became the first Latina senator after her 2016 win, against former state attorney general Adam Laxalt. The governor’s race features incumbent Steve Sisolak, Nevada’s first Democratic governor in 20 years, against Republican Joe Lombardo, the sheriff of Clark County. Republicans in both races have focused on economic issues and crime, while Democrats have touted their efforts to bring down costs and vowed to protect abortion access. At the same grocery store where Pike shopped this month, Lindsey Ugale, a Filipino American nurse, said she used to automatically vote for Democrats. But this year, she said — largely because of the economy — she wants to learn more about all the candidates. At another market, a Latino man, who declined to give his name, said he voted against Donald Trump in 2020 but didn’t see much reason to cast a ballot this year. Canvassing for the Culinary Workers Union in the hills outside Las Vegas late last month, 63-year-old Jean-Marc Polleveys found some supporters of Cortez Masto and Sisolak but no new converts. One woman, who didn’t know whether she would vote, cracked her door open just long enough to take a pamphlet. “We’ll be back,” Polleveys said. The hotel banquet chef had more luck getting people to sign a petition for rent control. “Everything is going up,” he said. Republicans in Nevada say Democrats for drove up prices with government spending and kept businesses and schools closed too far into the coronavirus pandemic. “What’s going on is absolutely unsustainable, and it is crushing the Las Vegas Valley, and it’s crushing the working class and the middle class — the groups that the Democrats pretend that their policies are supporting,” Laxalt said at a recent event. Democratic candidates say they are working to cut costs and will fight corporate interests such as Big Oil. Cortez Masto stands by her vote for big aid packages during the pandemic, saying people needed relief, and reminds people that she helped pass legislation lowering prescription drug prices and funding affordable housing in Nevada. Sisolak, defending his handling of the pandemic, said during a gubernatorial debate that he prioritized saving lives: “The economy came back. Those lives we could never regain.” That message has convinced some voters such as Enrique Barboza, who was laid off from a casino on the Las Vegas Strip during the pandemic. Waiting to pick up food from a strip mall, he said Democrats “do more for us” and were trying to protect people from the coronavirus. “Within a year and a half, I lost more people than in 30 years,” he said, counting 11 relatives who died. With four weeks left until Election Day, Nevada’s importance this year has only grown as GOP Senate nominees in other battleground states have struggled. Party operatives searching for the net gain of one seat they need to win back the Senate agree the Silver State is key. “Nevada is Republicans’ number one pickup opportunity map-wide,” said John Ashbrook, a former top aide to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is working on Laxalt’s race. “Full stop.” A CNN poll released last week found Laxalt leading with likely voters by 2 percentage points, within the margin of error. Nevada had both a Democratic and a Republican senator for most of the 2000s, as well as a Republican governor from 1999 to 2019. But its voters have favored the Democratic candidate in every presidential election since 2008, when Barack Obama swept the state by more than 12 percentage points. Disappointed at their losses in 2018, some Republicans declared Nevada a “blue state.” “When the Democrats are motivated to vote, it will be tough for any Republican to win,” said Danny Tarkanian, who lost that year to now-Rep. Susie Lee (D). This year, Lee is in a tough reelection battle, as are Democratic Reps. Steven Horsford and Dina Titus, newly vulnerable after redistricting. “If we win here in Nevada, it’s going to be because of us,” said Ted Pappageorge, secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Workers Union. The most closely watched races this fall are all toss-ups. Sitting in his Las Vegas office, Pappageorge turned around briefly to point out a 2010 election-night photo of his predecessor with Reid, who grew up poor in Nevada and helped harness the Culinary Workers Union’s organizing power while representing the Silver State in the Senate for 30 years. Reid died late last year, leaving some to wonder whether his political machine’s power would wane without his ability to marshal donors and strong-arm as needed. A dramatic rift in the state Democratic Party also threatened to disrupt midterm preparations after new liberal leadership triggered mass resignations early in 2021. Allies of Reid launched a new group, Nevada Democratic Victory, to run a separate operation. That group — which all the top-tier candidates have chosen to work with — did not get access to the state party’s precious voter data until early this year. Local Democrats say they have powered through the rocky period. The Culinary Workers Union is in the midst of its largest election-year effort ever, leaders said, on track to knock on the doors of more than half the Black and Latino voters in the state, plus more than a third of the Asian American voters. “It’s a pretty straightforward message: ‘Who do you think is actually going to take on these issues? Who has more credibility?’ ” Pappageorge said. Political scientist Ruy Teixeira once predicted in the 2002 book “The Emerging Democratic Majority” that Nevada could become “dependably Democratic in the next decade,” in part because of its growing Latino population. Now he says the results in Nevada could underscore a national problem for the Democratic Party. Teixeira said he listened in on a Democratic-led focus group of Hispanic voters in Nevada where people expressed concerns about the economy and in some cases criticized Democrats’ immigration policy. “I think both parties have a job to do if they want to be the party of the working class, but recent trends look good for the Republicans,” Teixeira said, noting the high proportion of working-class Latino voters. Democrats have defended their outreach to Latino voters. Veronica Yoo, a spokeswoman for the Senate Majority PAC, noted that Laxalt has promoted a Spanish-language website and Spanish-language radio ad as part of an “unprecedented” effort. Meanwhile, the Democratic side had been doing that “cycle after cycle after cycle,” Yoo said. Cortez Masto’s campaign has been airing Spanish-language ads since March, emphasizing her support for workers and small businesses. Recent Nevada polling has shown Democrats leading among Latino voters but with a slimmer advantage than when exit polls showed Biden outpacing Trump among the ...

Google Expands Its Things To Do Feature Deeper Into Maps – Skift Travel News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/google-expands-its-things-to-do-feature-deeper-into-maps-skift-travel-news/ Skift Take Step by step, inch by inch, Google is becoming more central to the tours and activities sector. We’ve seen this playbook before. Dennis Schaal Online Travel This Week The typical Google Maps use case doesn’t entail people planning their entire vacations in the app, but they can selectively find flight information, compare hotel prices and — Google announced Tuesday — mix and match prices of attractions tickets. No, Google Maps isn’t a superapp yet but it’s edging in that direction, and touts 1 billion people monthly using the feature. Search “New York” in Google Maps and you’ll find restaurants, hotels, museums, transit options, pharmacies, ATMs, and now things to do. In a blog post, Richard Holden, Google’s vice president of travel products, wrote: “Last year, we began showing ticket booking links on Search when people look for attractions, like the Boston Tea Party Museum, to help them quickly compare admissions prices across different partners. Now, this ticket information is available on Google Maps as well, where travelers often plan their itinerary for the day.” In other changes announced Tuesday, Google is in the initial stages of introducing in Google search booking links for tours that are connected to attractions, such as a combination Vatican and Colosseum tour in Italy. Previously, Google had booking links to attractions tickets, such as for the Vatican, and some related tours were mixed in. With the tweaks in Google search, the attractions tickets’ booking links and related tours are separated into distinct modules so they aren’t competing for attention, and users can readily make tour to tour comparisons. Google plans to introduce this functionality into Maps, as well. Google currently only offers these booking links when they are connected to attractions, and doesn’t provide them for “food tours in Rome,” for example, but you can bet that will be coming. Google Upped Its Ad Game for Things to Do Importantly, Google announced that it expanded the reach and format of text ads for things to do that it launched initially in 32 cities in September 2021. With the expansion, more graphical tours and activities ads get triggered with appropriate queries in 24 countries, which would be a greater revenue opportunity for Google. Pictured is an image of Google ads from Viator and Tripadvisor (both are Tripadvisor brands), triggered on mobile by a query for “things to do in Miami.” Parallels to Google’s Hotel Playbook Google dropped its Reserve with Google feature for tours and activities in August 2021, and one month later transitioned to a system of paid advertisements and free booking links for attractions, aggregators and operators. That combination of advertisements plus free links is similar to the way it changed Google Hotels in March 2021, supplementing its years-long paid booking links from online travel agencies and hotels with free links for a sometimes long-tail array of providers. In another parallel move, Holden detailed how attractions operators can now update their own ticket prices through their own Google business profile. Previously pricing updates could only be made on Google via a feed with a tie-in to a connectivity partner, so the do-it-yourself feature is likely most relevant for smaller operators. Holden wrote that these business profile updates would soon be available for tours and activity operators, and not just for the attractions themselves. Again, this is what Google previously did for hotels, enabling them to manually update their rates in their Google business profiles if that’s the way they wanted to do them. Google has lots of time and money to develop robust features for things to do, making itself an essential part of the sector’s fabric through its grip on search, knowledge about user behavior, and talent. Google over the years edged its way into the travel ecosystem for flights and hotels, and is patiently building out vacation rentals (although Airbnb doesn’t participate), things to do, and newly, trains in Europe. Google has all the time in the world to consolidate its position in tours and activities — unless regulators say otherwise. In Brief Traveloka Leans Into Its Travel Core Products During the initial stages of the pandemic, Traveloka officials emphasized that the company was much more than a travel firm, but it has now shuttered its various delivery services. However, Traveloka still has a menu of non-travel fintech offerings. Skift Airbnb’s Chesky Wants to Clean Up the Cleaning Fee Albatros Airbnb hasn’t been in much of a hurry over the years to mute the outcry over host’s cleaning fees, but 17 months ago it began probing the overall fee issue, and this week CEO Brian Chesky said changing displays of fees and pricing are among his top priorities. A scathing Wall Street Journal article about the issue last month didn’t go unnoticed at Airbnb, for sure. Skift Sister Companies Booking.com and Priceline Add Attractions Partners Booking.com and Priceline, sister brands within Booking Holdings, separately added partners to source tours and activities for their respective businesses. Booking.com added Klook, and Priceline brought on Musement. Booking CEO Glenn Fogel recently said that tours and activities are must-haves to service travelers, but they aren’t nearly as lucrative for the company as hotels. Skift

Bank Of England Insists Again Pensions Help Will End BBC
Bank Of England Insists Again Pensions Help Will End – BBC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/bank-of-england-insists-again-pensions-help-will-end-bbc/ Image source, Getty Images By Tom Espiner & Faisal Islam BBC Business The Bank of England has insisted again that it will go ahead with its decision to stop supporting the bond market on Friday after reports it may extend it. “As it had made clear from the outset”, the help would end on Friday, it said. The Bank is buying bonds to stabilise their price and prevent a sale which could put some pension schemes at risk. The Bank’s statement comes after boss Andrew Bailey told pension funds: “You’ve got three days left now and you’ve got to sort it out.” The pound fell against the dollar to below $1.09 after Mr Bailey’s surprisingly blunt statement on Tuesday evening, which appeared to dash investor hopes of the support being extended. Government borrowing costs remain close to the levels seen at the height of the market turmoil last month, when the Bank first stepped in. Mr Bailey told the BBC he had stayed up all night to try and find a solution and said the Bank was doing everything it could to preserve financial stability, but said it had always been clear that the help would be temporary. Speaking on the BBC’s Today programme, however, Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg suggested that the reason for economic turmoil in recent weeks was down to moves in interest rates, rather than tax cut pledges by the government. Mr Bailey’s insistence the recent support would end was no slip of the tongue, with the governor going out of his way to say financial giants now had to arrange their affairs. He said pension funds have “an important task” to ensure they are resilient. “I’m afraid this has to be done, for the sake of financial stability,” he said. The interventions by the UK’s central bank were prompted after the chancellor promised huge tax cuts without saying how he would fund them, sparking investor fears over the UK’s financial stability. The government raises money it needs for spending by selling bonds – a form of debt that is paid back plus interest in anywhere between five and 30 years. Pension funds invest in bonds because they provide a low but usually reliable return over a long period of time. However, a sharp fall in their value after the mini-budget forced pension funds to sell bonds, threatening to create a “downward spiral” in their prices as more were offloaded, which reportedly left some funds close to collapse. The turmoil has also fed through to the mortgage market, where hundreds of products have been suspended as the volatility has made it difficult for lenders to know how to price these long-term loans. ‘Uncharted territory’ Earlier, pensions industry body the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association had warned against the help ending “too soon”. It suggested the support should be extended until 31 October, when chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng is due to detail his economic plan explaining how he will balance the public finances. The statement will be accompanied by independent forecasts on the prospects for the UK economy. The government has said it remains confident in its tax cuts plan, with Mr Kwarteng telling MPs he was “relentlessly focused on growing the economy” and “raising living standards”. But Mr Bailey’s words further increases the pressure on the government, and the chancellor, to come up with an economically credible and politically viable debt plan, and quickly. Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg argued that the current market turbulence could mainly have been the result of the Bank of England’s failure to raise interest rates in line with US policymakers, rather than the chancellor’s 23 September mini-budget. “What has caused the effect in pension funds… is not necessarily the mini-budget. It could just as easily be the fact that the day before the Bank of England did not raise interest rates as much as the (US) Federal Reserve did,” he said. He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that “jumping to conclusions about causality is not meeting the BBC’s requirement for impartiality” after Mishal Husain suggested the chancellor’s actions had been the trigger for the fluctuations in the value of the pound and government bonds. But Labour’s shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “This is a Tory crisis that has been made in Downing Street, and that is being paid for by working people.” Former IMF deputy director Mohamed El-Erian told BBC News that the economy was on “shaky ground”. He said financial systems going into turmoil “can cause a lot of damage”.

Blue Chip Leaps Into The Metaverse | LBBOnline – Little Black Book – LBBonline https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/blue-chip-leaps-into-the-metaverse-lbbonline-little-black-book-lbbonline/ Future-forward agency turns its anniversary celebration into a Web3 development event and metaverse showcase How does an agency celebrate a 40th anniversary in 2022? For Blue Chip, the answer came in the form of a metaverse party. The agency’s principal clients are consumer products companies that haven’t fully embraced the new frontier. So, the leadership team invested money and time to create an agencywide celebratory and learning event.   “One of the reasons we have been a successful company is because we’re always looking to the future to help our clients succeed, especially as consumer habits evolve and technology advances,” said Sarah VanHeirseele, chief growth officer of Blue Chip. “Celebrating our anniversary in the metaverse felt like an incredible opportunity to honour our past, while also helping our employees experience and embrace this new space in a fun and engaging way. We believe the metaverse is the newest channel in the growing omnichannel world, and Blue Chip’s web 3.0 fluency positions us well to help our clients roadmap, plan, design and execute metaverse experiences that will deliver positive results.” To prep for the event, Blue Chip designed and built multiple rooms in a metaverse art gallery featuring the agency’s history, past and current work and 40th anniversary commemorative merchandise. The agency supported their employees by offering training on the creation of their avatars for the event, most for the first time. More than 100 of the agency’s 150 employees participated in the event as unique avatars. Throughout the party, employees were also able to browse a gallery of Blue Chip’s award-winning work from the past 40 years. Then the avatars showed off their moves on a dance floor and competed for prizes (best avatars and scavenger hunts). The event culminated in a video toast led by Blue Chip CEO Stanton Kawer. Prizes included gift cards, and avatar winners will be featured on Blue Chip’s social channels and post-event collateral. Employees’ avatars are highlighted in the metaverse space, so when clients and prospects enter it for guided tours and education programs they will see avatars by department and winners on a special feature wall (so people can tell their friends they are stars in the metaverse). Blue Chip plans to keep adding elements to the space, so employees can continually develop their metaverse expertise. “This proved to be a fast, fun way to ensure that our teams understand and are able to bring a brand experience alive in the metaverse,” said Dan Cornell, VP comms and activation planning at Blue Chip, who led the project. “Our digital experience, creative and communications teams are now immersed in platform design, 3-D modelling, video and photographic content, messaging, and overall user experience. People who were uncomfortable at first became proficient proponents. We approached this project as if we would any client project and our teams are now ready to lead clients into this omni-space.” When Blue Chip CMO Dan Eisenberg pitched the idea to the leadership team as a learning opportunity the agency needed to do, he had no idea how far it could go. In addition to a boost for creativity, capability, and culture, the agency’s metaverse space is turning clients’ and prospects’ heads. After a brief test and learn with one client, Eisenberg is now inviting in prospects for 30-minute tours that promise to teleport them to one-of-a-kind spaces while they learn what the metaverse is, what brands and companies are doing in these new places and spaces right now, and how their brand can get started. view more – Creative Fred Pfaff Inc., Wed, 12 Oct 2022 08:57:11 GMT

All The Best Prime Day Deals During The Prime Early Access Sale [Updated] – Ars Technica https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/all-the-best-prime-day-deals-during-the-prime-early-access-sale-updated-ars-technica/ Prime Day Part Deux: Day 2 — We’ve sorted through Amazon’s pre-holiday sale to find the stuff that’s worth your time. Corey Gaskin – Oct 12, 2022 7:13 am UTC Update (10/12/22 3:13 am ET): The Amazon Prime Day Early Access event is still running strong into day two. Many of yesterday’s best deals are still in stock and some have even dropped further in price. As always, we continue to update this list regularly throughout the day, sifting through to find and highlight the best deals cropping up so you don’t have to. Original post (10/11/22 3:00 am ET): Amazon’s Prime Day sales event came and went this past July, as it has every year since 2015. The two-day shopping event is exclusively for Amazon Prime members and features thousands of products spanning all categories. This year, the company has plopped another sales event on the calendar from October 11 through 12 called the “Prime Early Access Sale.” Meant to preempt the holiday shopping season, it’s a smaller, albeit still massive discount event on thousands of items. To be clear, Amazon remains a behemoth that has done (and continues to do) many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many things worthy of criticism, and Prime Day itself tends to be loaded up with a lot of junk offers and misleading “discounts” that don’t make products significantly cheaper than they usually are. Much like Prime Day, these deals range widely in their value. But among the literal tens of thousands of sale items, there are some genuinely good deals on a lot of the items and categories we cover here at Ars. We spent several hours combing through the offers to compile a list of the best values available. Many of the items are devices we’ve reviewed well here at Ars, while the rest have been well-reviewed at multiple review sites we trust. Using tools like Keepa and CamelCamelCamel, we verified that the deals below offer prices as low or lower than they’ve been in the past three to six months. Many of these match the types of discounts you’ll see during other major sales events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The comprehensive roundup below will be updated periodically throughout each day of the event to reflect changes in stock, pricing, and additive deals. Latest Crypto News: Dominica Ties Up With TRON To Adopt Blockchain Technology, Google Cloud To Accept Cryptos – Outlook India https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/latest-crypto-news-dominica-ties-up-with-tron-to-adopt-blockchain-technology-google-cloud-to-accept-cryptos-outlook-india/ The Caribbean nation of Dominica has entered into an agreement with Blockchain operating system TRON to adopt Blockchain technology. This follows the passage of the Virtual Asset Business legislation in May, 2022. “This is a historic step for Dominica in its drive to enhance economic growth by embracing digital innovation and appointing TRON Protocol as its designated national blockchain infrastructure. TRON Protocol is one of the leading global blockchain platforms, known for its efficient and cost-effective crypto settlement system,” the Prime Minister’s Office of Dominica said in an official announcement. TRON has obtained the Dominican government’s endorsement to issue Dominica Coin (“DMC”), a Blockchain-based fan token to help promote Dominica’s global fanfare for its natural heritage and tourism attractions. “Dominica is committed to building a more inclusive and diversified economy with the help of new technologies. The open and cost-effective nature of the TRON Blockchain infrastructure will play a vital role to better integrate Small Island Developing States like Dominica into the global economy in the future,” said Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. Google Cloud To Accept Cryptos Internet giant Google announced on October 12, 2022 that it will start accepting cryptocurrency payments for cloud services early next year. This year’s Cloud Next, where Google pitches its cutting-edge cloud computing division (which generates over a tenth of its income) to businesses, saw the announcement of the agreement, CNBC reported. According to Google Cloud vice president and general manager, Amit Zavery, the company will start accepting cryptocurrency payments from a “handful” of customers through integration with Coinbase Commerce, a business payment platform. Indian-Origin Man Faces Trial in Australia An Indian-origin man and his Malaysian partner who accidentally received $10.4 million from a cryptocurrency company after an administrative blunder in Bulgaria are being tried in Australia on charges that they spent the money on items, including houses worth $1.2 million, according to a media report on Tuesday. Thevamanogari Manivel, 40, and Jatinder Singh, 37, made an appearance at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. According to the Brisbane Times, the corporation, crypto.com, was to pay $100 back into Manivel’s Australian bank account in May 2021, but wrongly deposited $10.4 million into it. This information was provided to the court. A financial audit in Hong Kong revealed the error, and it wasn’t until December 2021 that the corporation learned about the incorrect payment. Investigations later revealed that an employee in Bulgaria had entered $10.4 million in error into an Excel spreadsheet. Earlier, Manivel, a Malaysian national, was apprehended at Melbourne Airport in March with a one-way ticket to the South-East Asian nation and $11,000 cash. Singh, who had an account with crypto.com, told police he thought he had won the money from the business, according to the report. People Lose Money In Crypto Cloud Mining As many as 31 residents in Solapur in Maharashtra allegedly lost Rs 45 lakh after investing through a cryptocurrency cloud mining app. Cloud mining is a method for mining cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, without having to instal and manually run the necessary hardware and software. Instead, cloud computer power is rented. “The investors were asked to download the CCH Cloud Miner App and the crypto trading app. They were asked to convert their Indian currency into dollars using the crypto trading app and were made to invest in the CCH Cloud Miner App,” a police official told PTI on Tuesday. “We have registered a case against three persons who had lured people to download the app and invest money under the pretext of offering hefty returns,” Police Inspector Udaysinh Patil told PTI.

Column: People Power Key To Second U.S. Energy Revolution – Reuters.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/column-people-power-key-to-second-u-s-energy-revolution-reuters-com/ $430 Bln Inflation Reduction Act passed in August Bill provides large rebates & tax breaks to promote clean tech Long-lasting tax credits to trigger big green energy investments Public opposition to industrial green energy plants a key hurdle LITTLETON, COLO Oct 12 (Reuters) – The much-celebrated U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) marks its two-month birthday this weekend, but the ambitious climate bill that some hope will herald an energy revolution must overcome serious public reservations if it’s to reach maturity. For energy transition advocates there’s a lot to like about the act: Billions in rebates for greener water and heating systems and electric vehicles, tax credits for business investment in low-emissions equipment and benefits for renewable energy developers to offset large upfront costs. In sum, the law “will have a profound effect across industries for the next decade and beyond,” said Credit Suisse in a note to clients last month. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com It’s strong stuff and reminiscent of the profound transformation of the U.S. oil and natural gas sector wrought by hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling that enabled America to flip from a net oil and gas importer to the world’s top producer early last decade. The ingenuity and industriousness of U.S. drillers upended the global oil and gas markets during that period, and gave rise to the notion that technical acumen, entrepreneurialism and supportive government policy could reshape established industries. U.S. flipped from energy importer to exporter thanks to sharp jumps in oil & gas output & exports Similar aspirations abound now in clean energy, thanks to the IRA’s scale of funding and scope of impact across energy producers, businesses and households. But there are important differences between the so-called “Shale Revolution” a decade ago and the proposed clean energy transformation targeted by the IRA in the decades ahead. BACK TO BASICS The overhaul of the energy sector in the late 2000’s was essentially down to deploying existing capabilities and technologies on already-functioning oil and gas deposits – but in a new way. Pockets of oil and gas existed around established wells but could not be commercialized until the likes of oil pioneer George Mitchell used high-pressure jets of water and sand to fracture the rock bed, allowing the oil to be tapped. Extractors also used horizontal drilling to siphon off oil and gas trapped in adjacent chambers, boosting each well’s yield without costly additional drill holes. The US shale revolution saw drilling rigs and crude oil production surge To be sure, several refinements to extraction equipment also emerged – including the acclaimed remote-controlled walking rigs – which helped augment an aura of disruption. But the sector’s basic practices were unchanged – it sucked up oil and gas from underground reserves – which meant the shale transformation was more “evolution” than “revolution”. ALL CHANGE In contrast, the energy system and supply chain envisioned by the IRA will require a drastic shift in the sources of power for industry and transport and a comprehensive retooling of the transmission network. The location of key energy hubs will shift from remote subterranean deposits already connected by pipelines to a plethora of new above-ground solar and wind farms linked by miles of distribution lines to consumers. US targets rapid growth in renewables and non-emitting electricity sources in coming decades While that looks good on paper, the roadmap faces several notable hurdles, not least widespread public opposition to renewable energy installations near communities. These objections go well beyond NIMBY-ism. Communities across the world are becoming much better informed about the benefits and costs of major renewable energy installations, and often object to their development on the very same grounds that are spurring energy transition ambitions in the first place: a desire to have a clean and safe place to live. Wind turbines as tall as the Statue of Liberty emit noise and flashing lights that dramatically alter their landscape. Awareness of this has slowed project approvals across the country in recent years, even as overall wind generation capacity has climbed through blade upgrades and expansions at existing farms. Industrial solar plants take up miles of space and planned extensions to utility transmission lines often snake through open spaces and animal habitats, which local communities may value more than the low-emission energy transferred to other consumers elsewhere. It will require more than technological breakthroughs to overcome some of these hurdles, especially in well-organised communities that are capable of creating costly delays that sap the willpower and profit potential of project developers. However, if the American people feel it is in their interest to support a wholesale energy transformation – even in their own back yards – then the IRA’s lofty goals of a true energy revolution could well come to pass. Sabres, Bisons Use Technology To Reduce Long Stadium Food Lines – Buffalo News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/sabres-bisons-use-technology-to-reduce-long-stadium-food-lines-buffalo-news/ Sabres, Bisons engage with payments provider SpotOn to speed service Stadium concessions operators continue to try to find ways to quickly serve fans their food and beverages and get them back to their seats. Some are turning to technology to reduce long lines inside stadiums. There are software and payments providers allowing attendees to place a mobile order and then pick it up when ready at the nearest concession stand. Both the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bisons work with SpotOn, whose system is being used as the point-of-sale provider for concessions at 37 stadiums across the NFL and NCAA. People get beef on weck at the Pour Man’s Aud Club before a Sabres game in 2017. Mark Mulville/News file photo The Bills and their concessions provider, Delaware North Cos., do not, but have already gone to a cashless system that helps move along purchases. SpotOn works alongside operators to upgrade their stadium technology, to create what the company calls a “platform designed for the future of the fan experience.” When fans place a mobile order, the order goes to a concession stand closest to the fan, and once the order is ready for pickup, the fan is alerted, a spokesperson for SpotOn said. SpotOn noted that stadium operators are contending with new consumer expectations from fans who can watch games on TV with with improved camera angles and even virtual reality elements. SpotOn is testing mobile ordering at some concession stands this season at MetLife Stadium, the homes of the New York Giants and Jets. “We’re eager to show operators what’s possible for stadiums and football fans,” said R.J. Horsely, chief operating officer of SpotOn. “The fan experience is a key factor in attracting fans to stadiums, convincing them to spend more than $50 billion annually on their favorite teams and leagues, and developing a relationship that will carry a fan from their first game to becoming a season ticket holder.” SpotOn’s platform is designed to reduce congestion and speed up turnaround time by letting fans order from their seats, suites or anywhere inside the stadium. Digital payments and real-time ordering technology help remove friction points, while providing secure transactions. For the teams and their concession operators, it also helps them find ways to maximize untapped revenue with programmable up-sells, while offering VIP and loyalty tools. Fieldsheer becomes newest partner of Buffalo Bills A technology company that produces temperature-controlled apparel has signed a corporate sponsorship deal with the Buffalo Bills. Fieldsheer has become the “Official Heated and Cooling Apparel Partner of the Bills” and will partner with the team in its advertising, retail and promotional campaigns and be integrated into the Bills’ social and digital media channels. The company offers mobile sales of warming and cooling lines, such as jackets, base layers, socks, gloves and vests. Dan Misko, senior vice president of business development for Pegula Sports and Entertainment, said Fieldsheer’s product line tailors toward the Bills fan base and the unpredictable weather elements in Western New York each year. “Statistics show that the Buffalo Bills fan base supports the team’s sponsors far more than the NFL average,” said Patrick Deighan, director of e-commerce and marketing for Fieldsheer. “In fact, they are much more likely to purchase products from a company based on its partnership with the Bills. That type of supportive relationship was a huge attraction for us.” Tally Technology teams with Bills on engagement platform Los Angeles-based fan engagement platform Tally Technology renewed its partnership with the Buffalo Bills for the 2022 season. The Bills plan to enhance fan loyalty and gain fan insights by using Tally’s free-to-play (F2P) prediction and trivia games. Tally’s platform is designed to create new revenue streams through sponsorship activations, player conversion and data creation. Brad Vettese, CEO of Tally – co-founded in 2018 by Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson – said the Bills are focused on creating “rich, addressable data and providing value for their presenting sponsor.” “Opportunities within our platform are limitless,” he added about the platform also being used by sportsbooks and broadcasters. Tally is building a database of unique users and gathering data on those users’ gaming, wagering, brand preferences, consumer spending and other insights. Other team users include the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Ceará and Atlético MG. Welcome to Buffalo Next. Pumpkin yields vary across Indiana WEST LAFAYETTE — While genetics play a key role in a pumpkin’s potential size, the festive fall vegetable’s growth relies heavily on timely summer rainfall. Looking back at June and July’s precipitation totals, the record-setting hot and dry months pose possible cause for concern for many who grow and buy pumpkins, according to a press release from Purdue University. Indiana is one of the nation’s largest pumpkin producers, cultivating around 6,000 acres each year. Large-scale operations often have irrigation systems in case of limited rainfall; however, there can also be a slight benefit to a dry summer. The majority of Indiana’s commercial pumpkin crop is sold into the “fresh market,” meaning a consumer buys the whole pumpkin the way it comes off the vine rather than processed into consumables like canned pumpkin or pumpkin seeds. Pumpkin yields will be very site-specific this year. Although pumpkin harvest for some was delayed and yields will be lower, expect plenty of pumpkins available in Indiana, whether consumers are looking to carve them or bake a pie.

The Last Covid Holdouts In Asia Are Throwing Open Their Doors For Travel — Except For China – CNN https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-last-covid-holdouts-in-asia-are-throwing-open-their-doors-for-travel-except-for-china-cnn/ Hong Kong (CNN) — Across Asia, borders are opening and quarantine measures are lifting as even the last few countries clinging to Covid restrictions embrace a return to travel. Except, that is, in one country: China. After having their economies battered by nearly three years of halted travel, several countries in the region have reopened their doors in the past few months — bringing relief not only to their tourism industries, but to millions of residents who struggled with job insecurity and family separations during the pandemic. But in China — which has seen its own economy suffer from a strict zero-Covid policy involving tight border controls, snap lockdowns and mandatory quarantines — there appears to be no end in sight to the restrictions, despite mounting public frustration. Hopes that Beijing might relax its policies after the much-anticipated Communist Party Congress later this month fell after the state-run People’s Daily on Tuesday described the approach as the “best choice.” “At times like this, we need to realize that ‘dynamic zero-Covid’ is sustainable and must be followed,” it said in a commentary, pointing to ongoing outbreaks in the country. It added that the zero-Covid policy had minimized the economic impact of the virus and helped keep the mortality rate low. “We cannot relax prevention and control (measures),” it said. As China continues its zero-Covid policy, new video shows armed guards standing outside an airport to enforce it, more than two years after the start of the pandemic. CNN’s Erin Burnett reports. Parts of East Asia open up China’s stance means it is an outlier even in East Asia, where governments have been slowest to end Covid restrictions. For much of the pandemic, zero-Covid was the norm across much of the region — with many countries and territories continuing restrictions even when vaccines became widely available in 2021. Hong Kong — a semi-autonomous Chinese city that has separate border policies than that of the mainland — ended what was once one of the world’s strictest quarantine arrangements in September. The decision was celebrated by vacation-starved residents, business owners and government departments dependent on tourism. Also in September, the self-governing island of Taiwan further opened up by resuming visa free entry for visitors from places including the United States and the European Union. This came after the government reduced its mandatory quarantine from seven to three days for international arrivals beginning from June. Fred Mery/AFP/Getty Images Japan, one of Asia’s most popular tourism destinations, reopened with much fanfare in June 2022 — though it only allowed tourists to come in organized groups rather than as individuals. Tourists were slow to return, and, perhaps sensing the unpopularity of this approach, Japan relented in September, throwing open its doors to individual tourists with no daily limit on the number of entrants. The results were swift, with Singapore-based international travel service provider Trip.com reporting a spike in bookings and searches for Japan that month. The highest spike came from South Korea, which saw a 194% increase in bookings to Japan — but similar increases were reported in European countries including Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom. South Korea lifted quarantine requirements for all international travelers, regardless of nationality and vaccination status, in June. And it seems the bid has paid off. The country saw nearly 311,000 arrivals, of which more than half were tourists, in August — compared to just 97,000 arrivals during the same period last year, according to the Korean Statistical Information Service. Hong Kong is trying to revitalize itself after the Covid-19 pandemic by bringing back many tourist attractions. CNN’s Kristie Lu Stout reports. Southeast Asia’s head start Some countries in Southeast Asia, whose economies rely heavily on tourism, got a head start on their East Asian counterparts by beginning to open up last year — and are already reaping the rewards. Vietnam began allowing foreign travelers to visit designated places under a vaccine passport program last November and fully reopened in March, three months earlier than originally planned. In 2019, tourism had made up 12% of the country’s GDP, and authorities are eager to get back to those pre-pandemic levels. Vietnam saw 1.87 million international visitors in the first nine months of this year — 16 times higher than the same period in 2021, according to government statistics. Travelers wait in line at the Vietnam Airlines JSC counter at South Korea’s Incheon International Airport on September 8, 2022. SeongJoon Cho/Bloomberg/Getty Images “All indicators of the tourism industry have miraculously recovered,” said Nguyen Trung Khanh, director general of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, according to the government-owned news site VietnamNet. “Thanks to the explosion of domestic tourists after the Covid-19 epidemic, after half of the year the industry already obtained the targets set for the entire year.” Thailand began allowing fully vaccinated travelers last November, under a program that was briefly suspended during the spread of the Omicron variant. It re-launched the program early this year and has continued to ease restrictions in recent months. Tourists and locals browse a street market in Phuket, Thailand, on October 2. Andre Malerba/Bloomberg/Getty Images By the fall, Thai officials were celebrating. More than one million tourists arrived in September alone, said government spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri — and the government is hoping to hit 10 million visitors for the full year. It’s still lower than pre-pandemic levels; Thailand saw nearly 40 million visitors in 2019. But the country is firmly on the path to recovery, with tourism expected to hit 80% of pre-pandemic levels by next year, according to Burapachaisri. Even with the global economic slowdown, Thailand isn’t too worried. “During the winter, European tourists want to escape the cold to Thailand,” said the country’s Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith in October. Patrons at a bar in Phuket, Thailand, on September 30. Andre Malerba/Bloomberg/Getty Images China the odd man out Such reopenings stand in stark contrast to the situation in mainland China, where people have become used to the possibility of being caught up in snap lockdowns. Last week, China banned all 22 million residents in Xinjiang from leaving the region during a Covid-19 outbreak — just weeks after it began relaxing restrictions from an earlier lockdown. Tourist hot spots have been hit, too — the ancient city of Pingyao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, imposed a snap lockdown after discovering just two cases. The city of Zhangjiajie, home to a scenic national park, locked down over just one case. And last week, hundreds of tourists were stranded in an airport in the Xishuangbanna prefecture of Yunnan province due to a snap lockdown. Residents stand behind a cordon line at a fruit stall in the Tianshan district of Urumqi, Xinjiang, China, on September 5. Str/Reuters Officials are on high alert with less than a week to go before China’s ruling Communist Party holds its twice-a-decade national congress, where leader Xi Jinping is expected to secure an unprecedented third term in office. Authorities nationwide have worked to smooth the way in the run-up to the congress — a particularly sensitive time — by tightening already-strict Covid rules and declaring more lockdowns. There are other signs zero-Covid could be here to stay. Earlier this week, authorities from Shanghai’s Pudong district posted online that they were looking to hire more than 500 Covid workers on a two-year contract in order to carry out “community prevention and control work.” The post was published on the district office’s official WeChat account and seen by CNN, but has since been taken down. State media have also stepped up their defense of zero-Covid in recent days. In a separate commentary published Wednesday, People’s Daily claimed some countries had reopened because they had no choice after failing to “effectively control the epidemic in a timely manner.” It argued that outbreaks in the US and Japan were evidence of the “serious consequences” of loosening restrictions — despite the fact both countries have seen their cases decline since spiking in the summer. “Only by insisting on dynamic zero-Covid, can we avoid huge losses caused by an out-of-control epidemic,” the commentary read. “It is precisely because of our insistence on dynamic zero-Covid that we have protected people’s lives and health to the greatest extent possible.”

World Arthritis Day: Ayurveda Expert On Herbs And Remedies To Manage Arthritis – Hindustan Times https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/world-arthritis-day-ayurveda-expert-on-herbs-and-remedies-to-manage-arthritis-hindustan-times/ World Arthritis Day 2022: Arthritis can affect all aspects of your life. Living with arthritis can not only limit mobility but also puts one at risk of depression due to chronic pain and discomfort. Arthritis causes inflammation and swelling in the joints along with stiffness and the symptoms often get worse in the morning. There are over 100 kinds of arthritis that may affect one. Symptoms of arthritis can be made more tolerable and less painful with regular medication and healthy lifestyle changes that involve a healthy diet, remaining physically active, exercises among other. One can also try some Ayurveda remedies and herbs which can help reduce pain and discomfort associated with arthritis. (Also read: World Arthritis Day 2022: Best drinks and beverages to reduce arthritis pain) “There are varied causes that lead to the formation of Rheumatoid arthritis or Vata Rakta and including excessive consumption of saline, sour, pungent, alkaline, unctuous, hot, and uncooked food, intake of mutually contradictory food, sleeping during the day time and remaining awake at night or any injury to the joints. All these factors trigger both the Vata and Rakta constituents and thus lead to the formation of the disease,” says Dr Archana Sukumaran, Ayurveda doctor (BAMS) at Kerala Ayurveda. Characterised by red, inflamed joints that result in decreased mobility, rheumatism is of many types According to Ayurveda, rheumatoid arthritis of Vata rakta is caused by vitiated Vata and Rakta and affects smaller joints first. “It is an autoimmune disease that affects joint linings and eventually causes bone erosion and deformities. Symptoms are red, inflamed joints and stiffness that worsen in the morning or after inactivity,” says the expert. “Osteoarthritis or Sandhigatavata is arthritis of old age, caused by wear and tear of joints. The symptoms include pain and stiffness that increase with activity and a grinding sensation in joints. Gouty arthritis or Amavata, is another kind of arthritis due to the accumulation of uric acid components in the joints. It causes severe, sudden attacks of pain in joints, especially the big toe, and a burning sensation,” adds Dr Archana while explaining the different kinds of arthritis as per Ayurveda. Causes of arthritis According to Dr Archana, osteoarthritis is caused due to dhathukshaya or tissue erosion due to old age, cold climate, and dry, cold food consumption. All this leads to vitiation of Vata and pain in joints. She says gout results from a vitiation of Vata along with Ama or metabolic toxins. This results in vitiation of vata in association with ama, causing redness and burning sensation in joints. Preventive measures Ayurveda mentions the specific level of preventive measures for arthritis that can be adopted to help you: ● Controlling the food you consume recklessly ● Reduce the incompatibles that you intake ● Normalizing the route of Vata by doing mild exercise ● Reducing continuous journeys in vehicles or other means of transportation Ayurvedic management for arthritis Dr Archana says the treatment for arthritis is divided into different stages – it involves a Shodhana (eliminative procedure), Shamana (Alleviation techniques), and the local application of medicines. – In the beginning, pain-alleviating therapy should be given to the patient. This may include Kerala Panchakarma Therapies or external medicines. – Several herbal formulations are available in Ayurveda, which can be taken under an Ayurveda physician’s supervision. Yogaraja guggulu is an excellent medicine to reduce joint stiffness. It has a blend of 29 herbs that improve joint stability and enhance the range of motion. Rasnerandadi Kwath helps to boost metabolism and burns out ama dosha, easing pain and signs of inflammation like swelling and redness.  Ksheeralabala 101 Avarti capsule is enriched with Bala- a joint protective herb that ‌‌improves joint strength, mobility, and flexibility. Mahanarayana Thailam is also very effective in maintaining flexibility in old age. It lubricates and replenishes tissues to attain more flexibility. Pinda Thailam is a classical Ayurvedic gout pain oil, which calms down the burning sensation and redness of heels. Herbs and remedies to relieve the pain Dr Archana also suggests natural therapies for combating arthritis inflammation which includes herbs and spices ● Ginger: Ginger has been used in Asian medicine and food for millennia. It possesses anti-inflammatory qualities, including the capacity to produce prostaglandins, hormone-like compounds that induce pain and inflammation. ● Turmeric: A golden spice that has been used for centuries to give meals colour and flavour, has also been used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine to treat several ailments, including arthritis and musculoskeletal diseases. Turmeric and curcumin have not only anti-inflammatory qualities but also analgesic benefits. You can consume a pinch of turmeric mixed with milk to improve joint health. ● Epsom salt bath: An epsom salt bath soothes painful joints and provides overall relief.
