Spring Bud Blooms | Spring Bud Girl Changes Fate Through Education – Women Of China https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/spring-bud-blooms-spring-bud-girl-changes-fate-through-education-women-of-china/ October 10, 2022 Editor’s Note With the care of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and under the leadership of the All-China Women’s Federation, the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (CCTF) launched the Spring Bud Project in 1989, to help impoverished girls return to school, and to promote girls’ education in disadvantaged areas. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, in 2012, with the attention and concern of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, and with the strong support of Peng Liyuan, special envoy of the Spring Bud Project for promoting girls’ education, the project has conducted various activities to care for and support girls, and it has focused on girls’ education, safety and health. During the past decade, the project has supported 1.76 million girls, and it has provided one-on-one companionship services and personalized psychological counseling to 133,400 girls. After they receive support from the project, the Spring Bud girls never forget to give back to society. With love and various actions, the girls have demonstrated the Spring Bud spirit of “unremitting self-improvement, striving for excellence, developing stronger virtues and pursuing better lives.” Today, we introduce a new section, Spring Bud Blooms, to share stories about Spring Bud girls who have grown up and become contributing members of society, and to encourage society to care for the development of girls. Wang Fumei is one of them. Wang Fumei, a grassroots civil servant from Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, is a living example of the difference an education can make in a person’s life — and in the lives of that person’s family members. Wang is from an impoverished family, from Yizi Village, in Butuo, a county in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, in Sichuan. Tucked away deep in the mountains, the county was once one of the most-impoverished areas in China. Wang started to cook and look after her younger siblings when she was 6. She had to drop out of school at age 12 because her family couldn’t afford to pay her tuition. Many of the local residents believed it was useless for a girl to receive an education, because she would eventually get married and look after her house and children. After she talked with migrant workers who returned home to the village, Wang concluded an education was the only way she could leave the mountains and start a life different from that experienced by girls in the village. In August 1992, Wang told her parents she wanted to resume her education, after a three-year suspension, after she had learned the Spring Bud Project was being introduced in Butuo by the CCTF, to help girls return to school. However, her parents opposed her idea of returning to school. Wang Fumei (right) visits a family, in Butuo County, to learn about the family’s condition and basic needs.  Eventually, local village officials took Wang’s parents to Xixihe Central School, and they told her parents about the Spring Bud Project, the benefits of Wang attending school, and some of the inspirational stories of Spring Bud students. Wang’s mother finally agreed to allow Wang to return to school. In 1996, Wang was admitted to Sichuan Radio and Television Secondary Vocational School, where she studied accounting. Instead of finding a job in a large city after graduation, Wang chose to return to her village, so she could help with and participate in the development of her hometown. Wang became a civil servant, and she applied to fill grassroots posts in the most remote areas of Butuo. She worked in three townships before she was promoted to deputy head of Lada Township in June 2019. When she worked as deputy head of Lada, Wang was responsible for the poverty-alleviation efforts in Boshi, an impoverished Yi village located on the top of a mountain in Lada. Each cadre who held a deputy position in the township’s government shared responsibility for the poverty-alleviation efforts in an impoverished village. Wang Fumei (right) working in a field During the past three years, Wang has done her utmost to ensure roads and houses are built to improve the lives of residents in Boshi. She has also led residents in growing walnuts, traditional Chinese medical herbs and other cash crops, and she has helped dropouts return to school, organized technical training for villagers, and guided residents in forming good living habits and a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to her efforts, Boshi has taken on a new look, and the per-capita income of the residents has nearly doubled, compared with three years ago. Since she returned home, Wang has grasped every opportunity to encourage parents to let their daughters attend school. She has also encouraged young women to attend vocational training, as well as other forms of education. Wang’s inspirational story has persuaded parents to let their daughters attend school. Currently, all of the school-aged children in the village are enrolled in nearby schools, and parents of all ethnic groups support their children attending school. Wang has used her own story as an example whenever she has talked with villagers in an effort to curb excessive spending on dowries and extravagant weddings, and to encourage parents to abandon the outdated practice of arranging marriages for their children. Wang has spared no effort in trying to guarantee girls the right to an education, or to help them lead fulfilling lives. Photos Supplied by CCTF (Women of China English Monthly October 2022 issue)

But thanks to an excellent second half, the LOU overthrew Bordeaux in the closing match of the 6th day, with three tries, including two in the last ten minutes of the match (36-21). A success that allows the Lyonnais to get back to 6th place in the standings before a delicate trip to the champions, Montpellier, next weekend. UBB remains struggling in 12th place. 3. Football – Premier League: A 700th goal and Ronaldo revives United Again, he didn’t start. But it was Cristiano Ronaldo who revived Manchester United after the humiliation suffered in the derby against City last week (6-3). Entered during the first period after the injury of Anthony Martial, CR7 offered the victory to the Red Devils against Everton on a bright pass from his former teammate at Real Madrid, Casemiro (1-2). A historic goal, since it is the 700th in club for the Portuguese star. MU is 5th in the standings. The Serb has just won his second title in a row and seems set for a good end to the season. A square of aces up his sleeve: the Djoker has the game to surprise you again We continue with F1 and the coronation of Max Verstappen, world champion for the second consecutive time on Sunday in Japan. The Red Bull driver has completed an almost perfect season. She especially illustrated the change in dimension of the Dutchman, who turned into a real boss of the paddock. To follow live on Eurosport, this morning for the qualifications, and this afternoon (2 p.m.) for the finals. By the way, do you know why the judo belt is black? The answer here. The question of the day: will Laurent Blanc put OL right side up? It’s the great return of the President! Lyon formalized Sunday evening the arrival of Laurent Blanc to succeed Peter Bosz, sacked from his post as coach. The passage of the Dutch technician on the Gones bench will therefore have been a failure. Will the French be able to revive a club in great difficulty after five matches without a win in the league? That’s the big question. Because the 1998 world champion has not trained in Europe since leaving PSG six years ago. Its beginnings will be particularly observed. And as a wink of fate, they will take place next weekend against Rennes, the team led by a certain Bruno Genesio that the Lyonnais know so well… Omnisport Gasly at Alpine, Bosz on the hot seat, 40-5, Alaf: the set of the day 08/10/2022 At 06:00 Omnisport Wembanyama without mercy, Bosz without excuse, Paris without trembling: the set of the day 07/10/2022 At 04:40

As U.S. Midterms Near Anxiety Rises In Kyiv Over Pro-Putin Republicans The Washington Post
As U.S. Midterms Near Anxiety Rises In Kyiv Over Pro-Putin Republicans The Washington Post
As U.S. Midterms Near, Anxiety Rises In Kyiv Over Pro-Putin Republicans – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/as-u-s-midterms-near-anxiety-rises-in-kyiv-over-pro-putin-republicans-the-washington-post/ KYIV, Ukraine — As American officials pore over maps tracking developments in Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia, their Ukrainian counterparts are monitoring a different kind of contest back in the United States: the upcoming midterm congressional elections. In Kyiv, Ukrainians voice hope, and some apprehension, that next month’s legislative polls won’t undercut the staggering flow of U.S. weapons and security aid that Washington has authorized since the start of President Vladimir Putin’s Feb 24. invasion. And they warn that a softening of Republican sentiment has the potential to sap a recent surge in battlefield momentum. Uncertainty about future American support is intensifying as pollsters predict that Republicans will retake control of the House of Representatives. Some Republican lawmakers and candidates have expressed displeasure with giant aid sums, citing competing security concerns about China, domestic priorities, and the need for greater oversight. Daria Kaleniuk, an anti-corruption activist who led a delegation of female Ukrainian fighters to Washington last month, noted that nearly all House Republicans had voted against a stopgap funding bill that included $12 billion for Ukraine. “So it means that we are getting into this danger waters of making Ukraine a partisan issue, and support for Ukraine a partisan issue,” Kaleniuk said. Fears, however tentative, that American support could falter, are creating a sense of added pressure in Kyiv. A senior Ukrainian official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak candidly, said that Ukraine’s near-total dependency on foreign military and economic aid meant that its military must quickly recapture as much Russian-controlled territory as possible before any potential softening of Western support. “The U.S. midterms are one of the factors that have us concerned about the winter,” the official said. “Russia will gain an advantage with the new Congress and with Europeans as they blackmail them on energy policy. That’s why the current offensive is so important.” Other Ukrainian officials said they remained confident that U.S. assistance would continue. Oleksander Zavytnevych, who heads the national security and defense committee of Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, said U.S. public support for Ukraine in the war remained strong nationwide despite the reluctance of some Republicans, and so he was not worried that U.S. help would drop off. “Which politician does not support the opinion of his voter?” Zavytnevych said. “After all, the support provided by the United States is a certain strategic course” for America’s own security. President Biden, in a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week, repeated his pledge that Washington would support Ukraine “as long as it takes,” suggesting a long-term campaign to supply arms needed to push Russian troops back from occupied cities and towns, and prevent Putin’s illegal annexation of four Ukrainian provinces from being carried out on the ground. Since February, the Biden administration has sent Ukraine more than $17 billion of military aid, including missile systems and drones. The White House has frequently faced calls from lawmakers in both parties for faster and greater assistance, which, combined with ongoing appeals from Kyiv, helped yield an expanding supply of heavier, longer-range weaponry for the fight. But as American consumers grapple with inflation and a slowing economy, polls indicate that fewer Republicans believe the United States has a responsibility to protect Ukraine. An August poll by Morning Consult showed that U.S. concern about the war has declined more quickly among Republicans than among Democrats. For Ukrainians, the moment echoes the toxic political dispute over the Trump administration’s withholding of military aid to Ukraine, which culminated in the then-president’s 2019 impeachment. This time, Ukrainians are determined to stay out of the partisan crossfire. “It’s not our business to discuss or to help somebody” in American politics, said Vasily Chaly, who served as Ukrainian ambassador in Washington from 2015 to 2019. “Our business is to keep a strong relationship with American people.” Chaly recalled the intense debate over providing arms to Ukraine, then locked in a war with Russian-backed separatists in the eastern Donbas region, during his tenure in Washington. The sale of small arms began in 2015 and 2016 under the Obama administration. In 2017, the Trump administration authorized the provision of Javelin antitank missiles. Since its start, largely bipartisan U.S. backing has defied the prevailing animosity in Congress. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.), the senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee are among the Republican leaders on Capitol Hill who have championed military aid to Ukraine. But other Republicans, including Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) and Roger Williams (R-Tx.), have expressed reluctance. Influential conservative pundits such as Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, meanwhile, have questioned where money for Ukraine is going and warned of ‘mission creep’ in U.S. support. That has led even some Republicans to fret about the staying power of American support for Ukraine. “I hope the safety and security aspect will win out,” said one Republican congressional aide. “But I think there is a question mark.” While Chaly is among the Ukrainians pushing for sophisticated equipment including tanks and fighter jets, he said he empathized with some U.S. lawmakers’ focus on domestic issues. “Every country should pay for health, for education, for the internal programs, for jobs — it’s absolutely understandable,” he said. “But if you do not secure your country and your people, you can’t think about development.” Ukrainians also fear that Russia will use the election to chip away at the bipartisan support, potentially using strategies like those the U.S. government determined to be Russian interference in the 2016 election. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko suggested Russian media narratives and disinformation could be swaying American lawmakers to Ukraine’s detriment. “Of course I worry that some politicians don’t receive the right information,” Klitschko said. “Russians use the media so strong against the world.” The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last month posted, then deleted, a tweet that echoed Kremlin language and called for a halt to “gift-giving to Ukraine.” It later issued a statement reaffirming its stance on U.S. assistance. “We must oppose Putin, but American taxpayers should not be shouldering the vast majority of the cost,” it said. Republican officials cautioned that the recent spending vote did not necessarily indicate a big reduction of support, noting that Ukraine aid was just one of the items the bill financed. They also said Republican support may be buoyed by Ukraine’s military gains or Russian atrocities and nuclear threats. Oleksandr Kornienko, deputy speaker of the Rada, noted that Putin devoted much of a speech last week on his annexations to a long list of Russian grievances against the U.S. and the West, signaling his larger ambitions and animosity. “But the war is happening in Ukraine, in the territory of Ukraine. Our people are dying,” Kornienko said. “Therefore, it is in the interest of the civilized world to continue helping Ukraine defeat Putin on Ukrainian territory … so that it does not spill over into Europe and other countries of the world.” As U.S. assistance adds up, lawmakers of each party are calling for more robust oversight in hopes of averting the waste and diversion that characterized much of the enormous U.S. aid sums provided to Iraq and Afghanistan. Ukraine is working to intensify accountability efforts, standing up a new parliamentary oversight body and organizing visits to weapons depots, according to Zavytnevych. So far, he said, there have been no substantiated complaints about diversion or misuse of foreign arms. While they recognize what America’s election results may bring, Ukrainians continue to make the case for the global cost of inaction. “What we can do as Ukrainians is just keep explaining to the world properly what Russians are doing,” said Kaleniuk, who heads an anti-corruption group. “If [we] are properly armed, we are able to win, and this war has to be won faster. Otherwise, it will cost too much for American people.” John Hudson in Washington contributed to this report. War in Ukraine: What you need to know The latest: Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees Friday to annex four occupied regions of Ukraine, following staged referendums that were widely denounced as illegal. Follow our live updates here. The response: The Biden administration on Friday announced a new round of sanctions on Russia, in response to the annexations, targeting government officials and family members, Russian and Belarusian military officials and defense procurement networks. President Volodymyr Zelensky also said Friday that Ukraine is applying for “accelerated ascension” into NATO, in an apparent answer to the annexations. In Russia: Putin declared a military mobilization on Sept. 21 to call up as many as 300,000 reservists in a dramatic bid to reverse setbacks in his war on Ukraine. The announcement led to an exodus of more than 180,000 people, mostly men who were subject to service, and renewed protests and other acts of defiance against the war. The fight: Ukraine mounted a successful counteroffensive that forced a major Russian retreat in the northeastern Kharkiv region in early September, as troops fled cities and villages they had occupied since the early days of the war and abandoned l...

Because of this terrible situation with the war in Ukraine, we have now opened an operational office in Limassol to act as a regional coordination center.” The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022 when Putin announced his intention to  demilitarize and “denazify” Ukraine. Immediately after the announcement, Russia launched missile and air strikes across Ukraine including on the capital of Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted martial law and a general mobilization of all male Ukrainian citizens between the ages of 18 and 60 and banned them from leaving the country.    The invasion has displaced almost 13 million Ukrainians with more than six million fleeing the country and another seven million leaving their homes and seeking refuge elsewhere. It also further aggravated a growing shortage of seafarers worldwide that had begun two years earlier with the onset of COVID-19. Ukraine accounts for roughly 77,000 seafarers – 47,000 officers and 30,000 ratings. Russian and Ukrainian mariners together account for about 14 percent of officers and 15 percent of ratings, a significant proportion of the world’s approximately two million seafarers. Crewing ships had already been a challenging situation because of COVID-19 as crews were subject to travel restrictions and were often quarantined onboard for months beyond IMO statutory limits. “Any industry where 15 percent of the workforce more or less falls out will have a problem,” says Jensen. “Even owners not using Eastern European crew will feel a knock-on effect as owners traditionally using Ukrainian and Russian crew turn to other nationalities.” There are other problems as well. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is overwhelming shipping companies’ ability to hire seafarers. Since the war began it’s become difficult for Russians to obtain travel visas and get paid due to Russian bank sanctions, and it’s problematic to mix Russian and Ukrainian crews. Several shipping companies have declined to hire Russian seafarers entirely. The stress on Ukrainian mariners has been tremendous because many of their families have fled the country or been forced to relocate. Many do not want to return to Ukraine and have extended onboard contracts. Ukrainian national marine licenses have been extended, but no new licenses are being issued, which is affecting job opportunities for Ukrainians. In the meantime, the Ukrainian maritime authorities have established a system where Ukrainian seafarers can now undertake online the necessary courses and exams to renew their certificates when their five-year cycle expires. In addition, the Polish maritime administration has established a system for extending Ukrainian certificates. “When the war broke out, about 60 percent of Ukrainian seafarers were onboard,” Jensen explains. “A few of them wanted to return home immediately when the war started to join the army or be with their families, but the majority stayed onboard, and when their tenure came to an end they asked to stay longer. In general, shipping companies were able to cope, including Danica. However, in the past few months the situation has changed. Many of the Ukrainian seafarers’ families have been able to leave the country and are now in the E.U. As soon as their families are out of Ukraine, the seafarers onboard want to join them. This is of course understandable, but now it creates a shortage of relievers while other relievers are still not able to leave Ukraine.” With the growing shortage of professional mariners, salaries for onboard personnel are rising quickly, and there are no quick solutions due to the professional licenses required to meet the IMO’s STCW certifications along with logging verifiable time at sea. A Different Kind of Company “Our ambition is to be the crewing partner for demanding shipping companies,” says Jensen, “those with high standards and high expectations, and to deliver crews who can fulfill our clients’ business goals.” To do so, the company employs one of the strictest screening procedures in the business, especially for senior officers, and offers leadership training courses for officers and safety training courses for ratings. It screens candidate backgrounds, authenticates licenses and verifies sea service including navigational skills and knowledge. It charts the candidate’s behavior and ability to communicate and interact with other crew members, which is critical for successful ship operations. Asked if Danica is the world’s biggest crew supply company, he replies, “No, and we will not be. There are not enough crews who can pass our strict pre-employment screening process.” Jensen grew up in a seafaring family in Denmark. Both of his grandfathers were professional mariners, and his uncle was a marine pilot. During summer vacations from school, he would join his uncle on pilotage voyages in the Denmark fjords and deep-sea waters, which sparked his interest in becoming a deck officer and ship’s captain. He served as an officer on container ships, bulk carriers and ferries and eventually took command of seismic vessels. When not sailing, he earned advanced degrees in business organization and human resource management. Eventually, he came ashore with the opportunity to work as a safety superintendent and crewing officer for the seismic company. He went to Greece to oversee operations for a Danish-Greek ferry and soon became the fleet director and managing director for another Danish ferry company. He spent nine years with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement in Germany, rising to Group HR-Marine Manning Director. In 2009 he cofounded Nordic Hamburg Shipmanagement and in 2013 founded Danica Crewing Specialists. His years of hands-on experience managing crews and fleets made it clear that there was a need for quality recruitment and manning services, for a company that was independently owned and acted entirely on behalf of its customers. “We are not a ship manager,” Jensen emphasizes. “Our focus is to be the HR (human resources) partner for our clients, who are typically shipowning companies with their own in-house technical management but with a fleet size that does not have the economies of scale to have their own recruitment offices, screening, logistics and training. We are their extended arm or department.” Today, the company has eight offices in six countries and a network of more than 350,000 officers and ratings. It has long been recruiting in the Philippines, India and Indonesia. While looking to open more offices, the pandemic put further expansion plans on hold. But it did open an office in Batumi, Georgia recently and – in addition to transferring much of the Odesa operation to Limassol – has partnered with a crewing company in the Philippines.   Blue Water Crisis When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, more than 2,000 seafarers were stranded on 94 vessels at Ukrainian ports. The IMO and several governments insisted that the Russian Federation honor the “blue safe maritime corridor” in the high-risk areas of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Russia deferred, saying it would establish a humanitarian corridor once ships were outside Ukraine’s territorial waters. Today, Ukrainian ports are at MARSEC (maritime security) level 3, which means the ports will remain closed for entry and exit or that ships sail at their own peril. Sea mines have been laid at port approaches and ports blocked with sunken barges and cranes. Many ships in the region no longer have sufficient crew onboard to sail. “We still have about 1,000 Ukrainians, mainly senior officers, deployed now,” Jensen says. “There are still Danica employees and crew in distress in Ukraine, many of whom have lost their properties and possessions. Meanwhile, our company supports these employees and their families, even those who have escaped to other countries.” While the Russians have signed an accord to allow grain ships to sail from Ukraine and through the Black Sea, there is massive congestion of vessels near Sulina and Bystre, south of Snake Island, trying to transit through Romania to the Danube. Officials estimate it will take months to get ships moving again. Meanwhile, IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim and international aid organizations have been trying to reprovision ships, which need vital supplies for stranded seafarers in the Black Sea region. A Time of Courage There are currently around 75,000 commercial ships in the world trading fleet totaling 2,095 million deadweight tons, which has doubled since 2007. By 2025, the world fleet will exceed 80,000 ships, and the demand for licensed mariners will continue to increase. Added to the war in Ukraine and the ongoing pandemic, that presents a real challenge for companies like Danica. Where will the seafarers come from? “That’s a very valid question,” he says, “and it worries me a lot. Seafaring has been an attractive career for decades in the main sourcing countries. A career at sea offers challenging jobs, great responsibility, and a steady and relatively high income – indeed for senior ranks in some countries even an extremely high salary. However, IT companies and big engineering companies are also in the market to recruit the same young talent, also offering ...

Padres Knock Out Mets Joe Musgroves Ears Checked In MLB Playoffs USA TODAY
Padres Knock Out Mets Joe Musgroves Ears Checked In MLB Playoffs USA TODAY
Padres Knock Out Mets, Joe Musgrove’s Ears Checked In MLB Playoffs – USA TODAY https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/padres-knock-out-mets-joe-musgroves-ears-checked-in-mlb-playoffs-usa-today/ On a night the New York Mets could barely touch Joe Musgrove, the biggest whiff came from Buck Showalter. Facing elimination in Game 3 of their National League wild card series, the Mets manager ordered umpires to check Musgrove, the San Diego Padres right-hander who’d shut them out for five dominant innings, for foreign substances on his face and equipment. It is a rare act for a manager – rarer still in an era umpires check pitchers’ hands regularly after innings – and took on an air of desperation with the Mets trailing by four runs and their season on life support. Before the bottom of the sixth could begin, the umpiring crew scoured Musgrove’s face, ears and equipment for sticky substances and found nothing. Which is exactly what the Mets got off Musgrove. Musgrove took a perfect game into the fifth inning and pitched seven shutout innings, quieting a Citi Field crowd and sending the faithful home for the winter as San Diego eliminated the Mets, 6-0, on Sunday night. The Padres will advance to the NL Division Series against the Dodgers, as they did in 2020 before succumbing to L.A. in the bubble-contested playoffs that year. The Mets, who won 101 games but lost the NL East title in the season’s waning days, will go home pondering how to improve on a club that sported a franchise-record payroll that approached $290 million. They didn’t go down swinging but rather by commissioning a search party to undress Musgrove, Showalter either believing Musgrove’s elevated spin rate and dominance resulted from foreign substance use – or at least wanting to plant that thought in the Padre’s head. Either way, he was wrong on both fronts. Umpiring crew chief Alfonso Marquez conducted a relatively intimate check of Musgrove’s face and ears as the pitcher maintained a poker face. All clean. “I’ve seen him do it before,” Musgrove said of Showalter in a postgame TV interview. “I get it; they’re on their last leg, they’re desperate and it is what it is. “It motivated me a bit. It fired me up. An opportunity to stick it to them, a little bit.” Musgrove then returned to the business of dominating the Mets, granting them just one harmless single and a walk in his seven innings. After pitching a scoreless sixth, he couldn’t resist wiping sweat/something from under his nose while glancing at the Mets’ dugout. He later tugged on his ear, driving the point home further. NIGHTENGALE’S NOTEBOOK: Judge is the AL MVP. Who else deserves 2022 MLB awards? NEWSLETTER: Get the latest sports news straight to your inbox Musgrove made history himself, becoming the first pitcher in playoff history to complete seven shutout innings with less than two hits in a winner-take-all game. His resentment toward Showalter is rooted in decades of baseball protocol, in which demanding a substance check is considered questionable gamesmanship, unless a team has been tipped to a player’s abuse. The practice did not gain steam even as the use of so-called “sticky stuff” grew in prevalence and aided in pitchers’ spin rate, velocity and movement. When Major League Baseball announced that in June 2021 it would begin checking pitchers after at least their first inning of work, spin rates declined across the game. And just one manager – then-Phillies skipper Joe Girardi – demanded an extra on-field check when he asked umps to check then-Nationals starter Max Scherzer, who grew indignant at Girardi after umps ran their hands through his thinning mane. Showalter seemed to telegraph his intentions, noting in a pregame production meeting with ESPN’s broadcast crew that Musgrove’s spin rates had increased. His numbers in Sunday’s Game 3 were elevated, as well, although possibly not beyond what the adrenaline of a high-stakes game might produce. Showalter said he felt “kind of bad about” casting aspersions on Musgrove, but that the club was “privy” to spiking spin rate averages and that he’s “charged with doing what’s best for the New York Mets. If it makes me look however it makes me look, I’m going to do it every time and live with the consequences.” Said Padres manager Bob Melvin: “Joe Musgrove is a man of character. Questioning his character is what bothers me. The reception he got after that was not warranted. I just want everybody to know he’s a high-character individual.” Showalter should have known he wasn’t checking a young buck; Musgrove pitched the lone no-hitter in Padres history and appeared in far higher-stakes games, most notably earning the win in relief in Game 5 of the 2017 World Series, a 13-12 thriller that keyed the Houston Astros’ seven-game conquest of the Dodgers. Sunday night, Musgrove came up even cleaner and now, the San Diego native will be slated to start a Game 4 at Petco Park against the Dodgers. And Showalter’s tactics will be remembered ignominiously – not the sheen around Musgrove’s ears.

Inside Mark Zuckerbergs Metaverse Struggles The New York Times
Inside Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse Struggles – The New York Times https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/inside-mark-zuckerbergs-metaverse-struggles-the-new-york-times/ Meta’s push to develop virtual and augmented reality technology has had a bumpy year. In the year since, Meta has spent billions of dollars and assigned thousands of employees to make Mr. Zuckerberg’s dream feasible. But Meta’s metaverse efforts have had a rocky start. The company’s flagship virtual-reality game, Horizon Worlds, remains buggy and unpopular, leading Meta to put in place a “quality lockdown” for the rest of the year while it retools the app. Some Meta employees have complained about frequent strategy shifts that seem tied to Mr. Zuckerberg’s whims rather than a cohesive plan. And Meta executives have butted heads over the company’s metaverse strategy, with one senior leader complaining that the amount of money the company had spent on unproven projects made him “sick to my stomach.” The company’s struggle to reshape the business was described in interviews with more than a dozen current and former Meta employees and internal communications obtained by The New York Times. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about internal matters. Image A still from Mr. Zuckerberg’s announcement in 2021 that Facebook was changing its name to Meta and would become a “metaverse company.”Credit…Meta/EPA, via Shutterstock On Tuesday, Meta is expected to unveil a new V.R. headset at a developer conference, along with other new metaverse features. The stakes are high for the company, which is racing to transform itself to make up for declines in other parts of its business. TikTok is siphoning younger users away from Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s two big moneymakers, and Apple made privacy changes to its mobile operating system that have cost Meta billions of dollars in advertising revenue. The company’s stock price has tumbled nearly 60 percent in the past year — a reflection not just of broader market turbulence, but of some investors’ skepticism that the metaverse will be highly lucrative anytime soon. In late September, the company announced that it would freeze most hiring, and Mr. Zuckerberg has warned employees that layoffs may be coming. “The pressures Meta’s business is facing in 2022 are acute, significant and not metaverse-related,” said Matthew Ball, an investor and metaverse expert whose advice Mr. Zuckerberg has sought. “And there is a risk that almost everything Mark has outlined about the metaverse is right, except the timing is farther out than he imagined.” What Is the Metaverse, and Why Does It Matter? Card 1 of 5 The origins. The word “metaverse” describes a fully realized digital world that exists beyond the one in which we live. It was coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel “Snow Crash,” and the concept was further explored by Ernest Cline in his novel “Ready Player One.” The future. Many people in tech believe the metaverse will herald an era in which our virtual lives will play as important a role as our physical realities. Some experts warn that it could still turn out to be a fad or even dangerous. In a statement, Andy Stone, a Meta spokesman, said the company believed it was still on the right path. “Being a cynic about new and innovative technology is easy,” Mr. Stone said. “Actually building it is a lot harder — but that’s what we’re doing because we believe the metaverse is the future of computing.” Mr. Zuckerberg successfully overhauled his company a decade ago, getting it to focus on how its products worked on smartphones instead of desktops. He signaled a similar shift last year, saying that investing in the metaverse would allow Meta to make the leap from one technological era to the next. There are some signs that Meta’s bet has put it ahead of competitors. The company’s consumer V.R. headset, the Quest 2, is the most popular V.R. headset on the market with more than 15 million sold, according to outside estimates. Its Oculus V.R. app — which has since been rebranded Meta Quest — has been installed over 21 million times on iOS and Android devices, according to an estimate by Sensor Tower, an app analytics firm. But Meta’s future success depends on the company’s ability to bring virtual and augmented reality tools to far more people. Meta said in February that its Horizon Worlds game had grown to roughly 300,000 monthly active users — an increase from a few months earlier, but minuscule in comparison with Facebook’s more than 2.9 billion monthly active users. The company declined to provide more up-to-date figures for Horizon Worlds. Adding to Meta’s woes is that U.S. regulators appear determined to prevent the company from acquiring its way to success, as it did by buying Instagram and WhatsApp. In July, the Federal Trade Commission sued Meta to block it from acquiring Within, the maker of a popular V.R. fitness app. Meta is fighting the agency’s lawsuit, which it has called “wrong on the facts and the law.” Image Mr. Zuckerberg, right, fencing with an Olympic gold medal fencer in the metaverse. He has made himself the face of the company’s metaverse push.Credit…Facebook, via Reuters Mr. Zuckerberg, determined to recast his public image after years in the limelight for unpopular decisions about political speech on Facebook, has surprised some employees by making himself the innovator face of the company’s metaverse push. Demonstrations and mock-ups of Meta’s latest metaverse technologies feature footage of Mr. Zuckerberg performing V.R. versions of his hobbies, including fencing and a surfing-like watersport called hydrofoiling. The chief executive recently went on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where he told the popular comedian that building an immersive metaverse was his “holy grail.” What we consider before using anonymous sources. Do the sources know the information? What’s their motivation for telling us? Have they proved reliable in the past? Can we corroborate the information? Even with these questions satisfied, The Times uses anonymous sources as a last resort. The reporter and at least one editor know the identity of the source. His involvement has backfired at times. In August, Mr. Zuckerberg posted a screenshot of his Horizon Worlds avatar on his Facebook page, along with an announcement that the app was expanding into France and Spain. But the avatar’s flat, cartoonish look was roundly mocked. (One commenter compared it to “a 2002 Nintendo GameCube release.”) After that response, Mr. Zuckerberg and other executives directed employees to give priority to improving the appearance of avatars, according to two employees. Mr. Stone, the Facebook spokesman, characterized Mr. Zuckerberg’s reaction to the avatar backlash as “frustrated,” but did not provide additional details. A new version of Mr. Zuckerberg’s digital appearance was fast-tracked, the two employees said, along with updates to other Horizon Worlds avatars that had been in the works. Four days after Mr. Zuckerberg’s original post, he shared that upgraded digital version of himself, conceding that his first avatar was “pretty basic” while the “graphics in Horizon are capable of much more.” One Meta graphic artist claimed in a LinkedIn post, which has since been deleted, that he and his team had designed roughly 40 versions of Mr. Zuckerberg’s face over a four-week period before a final version was approved. Image In a post on his Facebook account, Mr. Zuckerberg said that the graphics on the Horizon World app are “capable of much more,” after criticism of an earlier avatar of himself.Credit…Meta Mr. Zuckerberg’s zeal for the metaverse has been met with skepticism by some Meta employees. This year, he urged teams to hold meetings inside Meta’s Horizon Workrooms app, which allows users to gather in virtual conference rooms. But many employees didn’t own V.R. headsets or hadn’t set them up yet, and had to scramble to buy and register devices before managers caught on, according to one person with knowledge of the events. In a May poll of 1,000 Meta employees conducted by Blind, an anonymous professional social network, only 58 percent said they understood the company’s metaverse strategy. Employees have also grumbled about the high turnover and frequent shuffling of employees as Mr. Zuckerberg’s priorities change. Inside Meta, two employees said, some workers now jokingly refer to key metaverse projects as M.M.H., an acronym for “make Mark happy.” In September, Vishal Shah, the vice president in charge of Meta’s metaverse division, wrote on an internal message board that he was disappointed in how few Meta employees were using Horizon Worlds, according to a post obtained by The Times. In his post, which was first reported by The Verge, Mr. Shah said that managers would begin tracking workers’ use of Horizon Worlds, and said that testing their own technology was essential. “Why don’t we love the product we’ve built so much that we use it all the time?” Mr. Shah asked. “The simple truth is, if we don’t love it, how can we expect our users to love it?” Mr. Shah, who declined to comment to The Times, also said in his post that Horizon would undergo a “quality lockdown” for the rest of the year to “raise the ...

7 Best Tactical Backpacks Made In USA From The Best Brands The Soldiers Project
7 Best Tactical Backpacks Made In USA From The Best Brands – The Soldiers Project https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/7-best-tactical-backpacks-made-in-usa-from-the-best-brands-the-soldiers-project/ When I see a US-made tag, it gives me the notion that the product is high quality. It’s the same for tactical backpacks. The best tactical backpack made in USA is well-made with Molle webbings, plenty of pockets, and sturdy construction. Using such a backpack also shows great patriotism to the country. Everybody can own this backpack, whether they’re law enforcement personnel or outdoor adventure enthusiasts. However, you should be careful in your selection because not all of these backpacks are made the same. To ensure that you get the best choice, here are some points to consider. Construction: The most durable backpacks are made of highly dense fabrics like Cordura or ballistic nylon. Most of these US-made bags have 600D to 1050D nylon or polyester fabric. They’re reinforced with heavy stitching to prevent rips or tears. Pockets: The number of pockets depends on how many items you want to bring to your adventure. Look for double compartments to fit a lot of large items, like laptops and clothes. The smaller gear can sit on the front pockets. To keep yourself hydrated, look for a water bladder compartment as well. Molle Webbing: The best way to customize your bag is to have plenty of Molle straps on the exterior. You can add different items to the pack, such as a medical kit or a flashlight. There are more things to consider, like size, colors, and Velcro patch zones. We’ll discuss all that in the buying guide below. But first, let’s review the best tactical backpacks manufactured in the USA. Top 7 Tactical Backpack Made in USA Reviews 1. REEBOW Gear Military Tactical Backpack This REEBOW GEAR is a tactical backpack large enough to carry all my stuff for a three-day trip to camp or hunt. This 40-liter bag has lots of storage space to fit plenty of clothes and gear, just like my previous Urban tactical backpack. I love the Molle straps all around the bag because they come in handy in strapping my first aid kit and other items. At the back, I found an excellent compartment for a hydration bladder. Inside, I love the interior pockets and compartments to organize my items properly. The bag’s fabric seems heavy-duty because it stayed in good condition when I dragged it in the woods. The zippers look strong, and thankfully, they have cord pulls to use easily. I like that the bag opens all the way for easy access to items. Wearing the bag also feels comfortable even for longer hikes because the shoulder straps come with breathable mesh padding. The straps on the back help me distribute the weight evenly, so the pack feels easy to carry. Best of all, I’m pleasantly surprised that the bag remained dry inside after being caught in the rain for a few minutes. As a USA-made bag, it comes with a free American flag patch. I appreciate that the patch is made of Velcro because it’s easy to pull off for replacement.  Heads-up:  However, the bag comes with a horrible smell right out of the package.  Pros:  Military tactical backpack with a large 40L storage capacity With Molle straps and hydration bladder space; opens all the way for easy access Organizes items with compartments and interior pockets Made of strong zippers with pulls and heavy-duty fabric Water-resistant and comfortable to wear with mesh shoulder straps Includes a Velcro American flag patch  Cons:  May emit a terrible smell  Bottom Line:  Overall, this Molle backpack offers a large space for our things in the field. It seems to hold up well in any environment, thanks to its water-resistant fabric that can take a beating. 2. Hopopower Tactical Sling Bag Pack I was looking for a more compact backpack, and Reddit recommended Hopopower. This American made sling bag can fit my gadgets, pistol, and ammo for a perfect day at the range. The bag is lightweight enough to carry for many hours when hiking. I’m pleased that the shoulder strap is well-padded because it doesn’t feel rough against my skin. The single strap goes over my right arm and adjusts to fit securely. What I like most is the vent hole located at the bottom of the bag. Thanks to this hole, the air inside the bag gets released and the formation of molds is unlikely. I also don’t sweat while wearing the bag because the back is cushioned with a thick mesh sponge material. I love the Molle straps because they help extend the pack’s capacity. These straps are sturdy enough to attach a water bottle, flashlight, and other tactical tools. It’s also a great surprise to find a nice USA flag patch to show my patriotism. The Oxford fabric is quite durable, especially since it has multiple stitches. Even when I overload the bag with stuff, I have no worries that the material will rip. I also feel safe putting an electronic device inside the bag because the fabric is water-resistant.  Heads-up:  The only problem is that the front pockets tend to swell backward when fully loaded.  Pros:  Offers compact storage for pistols, ammo, and more Lightweight and comfortable to wear with mesh sponge Has an adjustable, well-padded shoulder strap Built with a vent hole to release the hot air inside Comes with sturdy Molle straps and a US flag patch Made of water-resistant Oxford fabric with multiple stitches  Cons:  Front pockets may bulge out when overstuffed  Bottom Line:  Altogether, this tactical sling bag offers compact storage for essentials for hiking or a day at the range. The design is lightweight, well-padded, and breathable to wear around the shoulders. 3. 5.11 Tactical Backpack 5.11 is one of the tactical backpack brands that I trust. As expected, this tactical army backpack doesn’t disappoint in terms of durability and functionality. The bag feels solid and seems to hold up well against the harsh environment outdoors. The 1050D nylon is tough as it didn’t rip when I dragged the bag in the desert. I was pleasantly surprised that my items stayed dried inside, even when I spilled water on the bag. This backpack is also pretty secure to carry with all the adjustable straps. I appreciate the sternum strap because it helps keep the shoulder straps in place while I’m hiking uphill. Meanwhile, the compression straps come in handy to keep the bag’s weight well-balanced, hence comfortable to wear even when overloaded. I like that this bag offers plenty of space for my sunglasses, hydration bladder, and a few changes of clothes. There’s a special laptop compartment that fits my 15-inch device perfectly. I can even hide a gun inside for concealed carry in the CCW compartment and fit a lot of stuff in the two front pockets. This tactical laptop backpack also comes with flag patches and Molle webbing for extra pouches. I love the hook and loop name tape as the slot is perfect for my customized patches. Opening the pockets and the main compartment is easy because the YKK zippers come with large pull tabs.  Heads-up:  My only complaint is that the price is a bit expensive.  Pros:  Has a solid construction of 1050D nylon fabric Water-resistant and comfortable to wear with sternum straps With compression straps to balance the weight Built with special compartments for CCW, laptops, and other gear Includes flag patches, Molle straps, and a hook and loop name tape Easy to open with huge zipper pull tabs  Cons:   Bottom Line:  All in all, this 5.11 tactical backpack seems to be a perfect EDC bag with plenty of compartments and adjustable straps for easy transport. It’s also heavy-duty with its stiff fabric and adequate water resistance. 4. Hannibal Tactical MOLLE Assault Backpack The Hannibal Assault is a black tactical backpack ideal for a three-day adventure. The 36-liter capacity is enough to carry all my essentials like clothes, gadgets, and other tactical gear. I love the multiple compartments of this bag because they make organization easy. I feel safe putting my laptop in one of the compartments because it’s well-padded to cushion the device from bumps, and it comes with an elastic strap to keep it in place. Also, I find it convenient to hang pouches on the Molle straps and D-rings. It’s incredible how this bag can make room for supplies. The front can fit a rolled towel using the Y strap and buckle. Plus, I once attached my folded raincoat to the bottom of the backpack, and it did not fall off at any point during my trip. The overall construction also feels sturdy. The zippers seem to hold up well with extra weight. The fabric feels rugged, so I think it will survive in the desert. I’m confident that my load will stay secure, thanks to the compression straps. I like the US flag that comes with the bag because it looks beautifully made. Since it’s removable, I can replace it with any of my favorite patches. Most importantly, I love the sleeve for my hydration pack at the back because it’s large enough to store three liters of water.  Heads-up:  The only downside is that the bag smells very bad. Make sure to wash and air dry it before using.  Pros:  Built with many compartments for a laptop, hydration pack, etc. Comes with buckles, Molle straps, and D-rings for extra gear 36L capacity, perfect for three-day trips Has a sturdy construction of fabric and zippers Designed with compression straps for securing the load Includes a removable flag patch  Cons:   Bottom Line:  Overall, this Hannibal backpack can hold a lot of items for our outdoor adventure. It has lots of compartments to separate the gear neatly, plus plenty of straps to carry more essentials outside the bag. 5. LHI Tactical Backpack For Men And Women LHI’s backpack offers 45 liters of capacity, making it the largest in this bunch. I like that this brand offers plenty of design colors like purple to make me look fashionable despite being tactical. The bag has many compartments to keep things in their secure ...

Crypto Corner: The Sports Slice | Bitcoinist.com – Bitcoinist https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/crypto-corner-the-sports-slice-bitcoinist-com-bitcoinist/ We’re back with The Sports Slice to take a bite into all things sports and crypto. Some of the latest headlines over the past week include the upcoming launch of LaLiga’s new NFT platform, a college quarterback’s new NFT NIL deal, and a crypto jersey patch deal cut unexpectedly short. Let’s dive into all of the past week’s crypto and sports activity. The Sports Slice New Zealand Rugby Buys World Of Women Galaxy NFTs New Zealand’s commercial arm of rugby and national team representative New Zealand Rugby made a hefty purchase of 33 World Of Women Galaxy NFTs this past week; the move is the team’s first NFT purchase, courtesy of some assistance with MoonPay – who is not an official declared partner of the team. Fans on the team’s official Reddit outlet were unenthused. LaLiga’s Digital Collectible’s First Platform Drop Is Slated For Later This Month ‘LaLiga Golazos,’ the long-awaited NFT product courtesy of Dapper Labs and the powerhouse soccer league, is set to debut in coming weeks. October 27th is slated as release day (paired with it’s initial first drop), and will feature some of the league’s biggest moments since 2005. The platform is expected to mirror the experience seen in Dapper’s other products, Top Shot and NFL All Day. A College Quarterback’s $1M NFT NIL Deal Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is approaching $4M in NIL deals, courtesy of a new $1M NFT NIL deal established this past week with Metabilia. Over half the U.S. states have now established some sort of formalized NIL policy as universities look to find new avenues to recruit athletes, and athletes look at new avenues of compensation. Ewers and Metabilia will launch a collaborative NFT project that will require a subscription fee to access drops and signed memorabilia. NIL territory is still very young for new platforms and projects to explore, and crypto and web3 firms haven’t shied away from doing so thus far. Dapper Labs (FLOW) is set to release it's latest product courtesy of a league-wide deal with European soccer monster, LaLiga. | Source: FLOW-USD on TradingView.com Athlete-Backed & Avalanche-Powered ‘MynaSwap’ Raises $6M NFL stars including Kyler Murray and Odell Beckham Jr. were a part of a recent fundraise for Avalanche blockchain-based sneaker trading platform, MynaSwap. The raise, totaling $6M, will go towards building out the digital collectibles platform that provides digital authentification for physical goods. The platform is founded by Adeel Shams, co-founder of sneaker shop Coolkicks (which has become an LA staple in the sneakerhead community). Crypto.com Reportedly Turning Down The Dial On Sports Partnerships Crypto.com is reportedly cutting back on sports sponsorship engagements as the exchange likely faces increased budgetary constraints in the bear market. While the exact scope is unknown, reports emerged in recent days that Crypto.com was looking to cut scope with sports partners such as the World Cup and Twitch Rivals. The exchange was once a leading force in sports sponsorships and is now likely seeing a major shift in spending as the bear market has persisted throughout this year. MoonPay’s First Sports Foray One name we haven’t mentioned in the Slice‘s history is MoonPay. Check that box this week as the crypto exchange secured it’s first-ever sports deal with Brazilian soccer club Flamengo. The two will look to have MoonPay lead the charge on a variety of NFT engagement, including ticketing, loyalty programs, and more. Trail Blazers Cut StormX Jersey Patch Deal The NBA’s first crypto jersey patch deal was established in the middle of last year, and despite being a multi-year deal that was established between the Portland Trail Blazers and young platform StormX, it’s coming to a quiet and unexpected close. StormX has largely underperformed in the broader crypto marketplace, and despite signing an athlete endorsement deal with former Blazer CJ McCollum back in November, the exchange is rarely mentioned when top crypto exchanges are discussed. The club’s reasoning behind cutting the partner, who’s jersey patch was featured in media day content in recent weeks, was undisclosed. We’ll see where Portland turns to next for a patch deal, after donning a BioFreeze patch prior to the StormX deal. The Blazers join the Grizzlies and Wizards among clubs currently searching for a jersey patch partner. Donated Breast Milk For Babies Now Easier To Get In Southwest Washington – KGW.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/donated-breast-milk-for-babies-now-easier-to-get-in-southwest-washington-kgw-com/ New moms in SW Washington have an easy way to get donated breast milk for their babies. Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center is now a human donor milk pick-up site. CLARK COUNTY, Wash. — For most new moms, breast milk for their babies is relatively easy to provide. For some mothers, it’s not so simple and even impossible to produce themselves, especially if their babies are born early. The milk is important and even critical, says Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center specialty dietician Laura Oltman. “In some babies, medically fragile babies, human milk is the only option for them- so it means that they would die without it; it’s essential to their survival,” said Oltman. The good news is some women produce more milk than they need for their own. That’s where milk donation comes in. Northwest Mothers Milk Bank is based in Tigard and serves the entire northwest, collecting, pasteurizing and dispensing donated mothers’ milk to babies with medical needs. Now, working with the non-profit, Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center is the first donor milk distribution site in southwest Washington. It works thanks to generous donors like Karina Zuchov. Zuchov donated for three months and had an abundant supply to share. She says it was important to give back after her milk came in. She relied on donor milk for her daughter and her son who was born two months premature. To those women who donated like it makes me tear up, I just want to say thank you and it meant so much because my babies needed it, couldn’t survive without it,” said Zuchov. The milk in the Legacy Salmon Creek pharmacy is there for any mom with a referral or prescription. It makes it much more convenient than a trip to Tigard. Kim Robey is another mom who benefited from donated human milk.  Her two daughters were unexpectedly born six weeks early before Kim could provide. “With them being so premature and so little that giving them those benefits would definitely benefit them in the future and help them grow and be the big babies they are now,” said Robey.  When Robey began to produce milk, she needed it all for her twins. But she said she hopes to be able to donate breast milk, if giving birth is again in her future. Donated mother’s milk is not the first thing you think of at the pharmacy. But Oltman said, with its key woman-made ingredients, it is best for babies. “We know that human milk is the golden standard of nutrition for babies.”

Best Travel Fishing Rods 2022 Buyers Guide Wired2Fish
Best Travel Fishing Rods 2022 Buyers Guide Wired2Fish
Best Travel Fishing Rods – 2022 Buyer’s Guide – Wired2Fish https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/best-travel-fishing-rods-2022-buyers-guide-wired2fish/ Choosing the best travel fishing rods for anglers who like to pack light and carry a fishing rod in their luggage on every where they travel requires a little planning and knowledge of the options and fish you think you might encounter on your travels. We reviewed a wide gamut of rods and came up with a lot of options to consider as well as some great recommendations for which fishing rods we would suggest for a lot of different types of fishing and travel. Things like size of the rod when disassembled, number of pieces, rod case, roll or bag, type of rod, how you will transport it, whether a telescoping rod makes sense and more need to be considered before choosing the best travel rod for your fishing plans.  Travel rods usually come in 2-piece up to 5-piece options not to mention the telescoping travel rod options out there. You might want to fit the rod in a suitcase, if so more pieces will break down into a smaller footprint. Or you might carry it with you which might give you more options for rods. You might want a hard case to protect the rod if you’re worried about TSA or some other party damaging your rods in transit. Or a rod wrap may suffice if it’s tucked inside of another hard case suitcase or thrown in your fishing kayak. You might need to consider how you will transport your spinning reels and baitcasting reels. (1 of 20) Know Your Travel Rods Then there are the types of rod to consider including spinning travel rods, casting travel rods, telescoping travel rods as well as travel fly rods or specialty rods like travel swimbait rods or travel trout or panfish rods. Or any combination of the aforementioned.  If you plan to fish with light lures and light line, then a spinning travel rod might be the best option. If you plan to look for big bluegills or crappies specifically on your travels, then a long telescoping rod might make more sense or a small spinning rod like a trout rod might give you a lot of options for trout and panfish. If you’re going for larger quarry, you will want a beefier rod that has a reel that can hold heavier line. Usually a baitcasting travel rod makes sense for bass, or big fish like walleye, pike, musky, stripers, etc.  Specialty rods like travel swimbait rods or extra long jigging rods might be just the ticket for probing unknown waters for specific types of fishing like jigging brush for crappie or casting oversized swimbaits for trophy bass and stripers.  Of course if you’re in to fly fishing, then a travel fly rod is hard to beat. There are some super high end and middle of the road options that are great rods that make a 9-foot fly rod fit into an over night travel bag with the travel fly rod option. CONSIDER TELESCOPING RODS FOR TRAVEL For some, a telescoping rod is an easy spur of the moment travel rod option to probe some nearby waters to see if they have fish available. I have buddies that keep telescoping rods in their trucks at all times and will break it out on their travels or while taking a lunch or after work on a work trip. It’s a quick and simple option. Most of time telescoping rods are a bit lower quality. Or at least that was the case back when the only option was a low end push button spin cast combo for small panfish. There are, however, some newer options bringing this back as a real viable option for bass and panfish. (2 of 20) A Travel Combo Might Make More Sense You can buy travel rods that are a rod and reel combo. This is often the case with telescoping options. But there are some better quality options in the multi-piece travel rods with a decent spinning reel. Most of the time. I want the best rod I can get and a good reel in my bag so I’m not fighting my equipment in the limited amount of time I get to fish on my travels. Especially those spur-of-the-moment unplanned fishing trips while traveling.  But when you get to a location and wished you had a rod and reel, a decent priced telescoping rod/reel combo can get you in the fish on an unexpected hot spot quickly and easily. (3 of 20) You Need a Travel Rod Case, Bag or Roll Anymore your travel rod is going to come in a hard case, a roll or a bag. Regardless you need to take care to protect the pieces of the rod or the rod while it is compartmentalized so it’s not damaged in your travels.  A hard case might be a cloth case with a hard shell inside of it that zips closed on the end and the multiple pieces slide into little sleeves inside of it. Or it might be a hard outer shell with a soft interior that keeps your guides and blank parts protected. These are nice when you plan to carry your travel rods separate from your luggage. Or keep them in a vehicle on your travels. A travel rod roll is just a cloth sleeve with individual pockets for each piece of the blank and then you roll it up with flap that closes on one end and tie it off with the attached ties. These can be nice for putting a rod or two into your other travel bags or a small compartment in your vehicle. A travel bag can be just a cloth bag or a padded foam bag that houses and protects the rod simultaneously. I’m a fan of these as they keep your pieces from falling out as sometimes happens with rolls. And they keep the blank pieces with a bit of added protection. The padded bags are ideal in my opinion.  (4 of 20) Best Travel Rod Brands In the freshwater space, the best travel rod makers are often synonymous with the best rod makers. Makers like Daiwa, Shimano, St. Croix, Megabass, Ark Rods, Fenwick, and others have really solid travel rod options. Others that many don’t know offer travel rods have good options like Favorite, Bass Pro, and BnM Poles.  Here are the travel rod brands we reviewed and liked: Shimano Daiwa St. Croix Megabass Ark Rods Fenwick Sixgill Bass Pro Favorite Fishing B’n’M Poles Ugly Stik Hardy Orvis Having said all that, let’s take a closer look at some of our personal favorites in various travel rod categories. (5 of 20) Best Telescoping Travel Combo Daiwa Travel Combo We chose the Daiwa Travel Combo as the best combo because it comes with a good reel, telescoping rod that is better than most and it’s own sling carry bag that is big enough to put several travel rods and reels in. This combo compacts down to 26 inches making it a perfect option for any trip whether it be in a car or a plane. The rod is a 7-foot, 2-inch Medium power fast action rod. It’s a solid rod and stayed extended as we fished with it. The reel is a 2-bearing Daiwa Crossfire LT 2500. Even though it’s only 2 bearings, it performed very smoothly and effortlessly with a very smooth drag. It’s a solid spinning combo and it’s offered in EVA or Cork grips. The combo costs $149 but if you just want a good combo without messing around with pairing rods and reels, this is a quick easy choice. Buy at TackleWarehouse (6 of 20) Best Travel Rod for Bass Shimano Zodias Travel Rod The fact that Shimano took one of their best rod lines and converted it into a high-end bass travel rod got me excited. And when I got the new rod in my hand, I was very impressed. I am a big fan of the original Zodias line and was so excited to see this level of quality in a 5-piece travel rod.  This travel rod condenses down to 19 inches when packed, meaning you can literally take it anywhere. And when full assembled you have a very high quality rod full of all the features of the high end one-piece blanks. The 5-piece construction gives the rod more uniform bend than a 2-piece model would.  It has so much power and a steady consistent load when casting. You will forget it’s a travel rod by your second cast. It’s a high end rod that just happens to be in 5 pieces. It has a CI4+ reel seat for lightweight strength and a full carbon monocoque grip which eliminates the use of EVA giving a light rod more sensitivity. Hi-Power X construction which makes the blanks outermost layer wrapped with carbon tape form that X appearance on the blank that gives more precise actions to the rods with more strength.  You can really lean into fish with this rod without worry. It’s one of the nicest travel rods we’ve tested. Buy from Omnia (7 of 20) Runner Up: Daiwa Ardito Travel Rod This is another high-end rod that has been brought down to a travel rod form factor. This rod comes with a very nice hard case and it breaks down to 30 inches (32 in its case). It features a V-flex ferrule joint system. These ferrules don’t require you to jam the rod pieces all the way together and then struggle to separate them. You simply push them until they snug together and you are all set. You can break down and put the rod together in seconds and be fishing as fast as you can thread your line.  The rod has a high-modulus blank, Fuji Aluminum Oxide guides, unsanded micro-pitch blank, split Eva grip and machined nut hood. It’s a high quality rod that pairs nicely with your favorite bait caster. It comes in 7-foot medium, 7-foot medium heavy and 7-foot, 6-inch medium heavy. Buy at TackleWarehouse (8 of 20) Best All-Around / Saltwater Travel Rod St. Croix Avid Trek rod This is a finely crafted American rod with incredible blanks offering uniform performance, strength and ultra-perceptive sensitivity. The premium cork full grip, and quality blanks featuring St. Croix’s IPC mandrels, SCII high modulus carbon, slim profile ART ferrules, Sea Guide Hero hi-grade guides with zirconia rings and stainless gun smoke frames, sea guide hook keeper, and a 15-year-transferable warranty.  This rod can literally do it all. Going to Louisiana to fish the marshes for bass and redfish, this is your rod. Strong, light, smooth, sensitive and easy to pack. The 3-piece rod is 6-foot, 6-inch MH rod with a lot of power but great castability. This rod is a joy to fish with and you can expect it to last a long time with that kind o...

Oh, Kyler Murray. First, he slid before the first down, bringing up third down instead of moving the chains. Then, with 22 seconds left and no timeouts, Murray spiked the ball. Now the Cardinals had to kick a field goal, and their kicker, journeyman Matt Ammendola (already on his third team this year), was missing wide right in warmups. Unsurprisingly, Ammendola missed wide right again, ensuring the NFL‘s lone undefeated team (the Eagles) would remain flawless for another week. Micah. Parsons. It was only fitting that Micah Parsons put the finishing touches on the Cowboys fourth straight win. With the Rams, down 22-10, trying to make things interesting with a late touchdown, Parsons got underneath the pads of right tackle Rob Havenstein and blasted Matthew Stafford, knocking the ball loose. Cowboys ball. Game over.  Parsons’ final stat line: five tackles (one for a loss), nine QB pressures, three QB hits, two sacks and a forced fumble. Game-wrecker. Cardinals pull even James Conner injured his ribs, Darrel Williams hurt his knee, and Jonathan Ward was ruled out with a hamstring injury. All that leaves at running back is Eno Benjamin, and when the Cardinals needed a big play, he came through. With his 11-yard scamper, Arizona tied things up with Philadelphia. Two fake punts! How did we get so lucky? Within minutes of each other, we got fake punts from both the Rams and Cardinals. Los Angeles’ fake was definitely cooler because it involved punter Riley Dixon throwing a pass, but Arizona’s proved to be more valuable, as the Cardinals ended up getting a field goal right before the half to pull within four points. Hollywood highlight Go off, Marquise Brown! This is why the Cardinals traded a first-round pick for the young wideout. He can turn a routine play into a touchdown, just like he did here. Two Eagles should have tackled him around the 18-yard line for a modest gain. Instead, he shaked and baked the Philadelphia defense en route to a 25-yard score. Pick-six! The 49ers are the NFL’s best defense, and nothing that has happened against the Panthers suggests otherwise. In fact, San Francisco secured a pick-six for the second straight game.  Pollard Zeke? Another game, another run that supports the notion that Tony Pollard should touch the ball more than Ezekiel Elliott. On his 57-yard touchdown, he exploded like a missile up the middle, stepped out of two tackles and then weaved his way into the end zone. As for proof of Pollard’s long-term effectiveness: per Next Gen Stats, Pollard has rush yards over expectation per carry of +2.6. Elliott, meanwhile, is at -0.5. Kupp turns on the JETS Cooper Kupp continues to amaze. On his latest highlight, he makes this one-handed catch look way too easy and then flies away from everyone for the 75-yard touchdown. Still no first-quarter points for Cards Inexplicably, the Cardinals still haven’t scored in the first quarter this season. Five games, zero points over the opening 15 minutes. The fact that they entered Sunday 2-2 is pretty remarkable.  Dazzling first career catch Injuries have plagued Tutu Atwell since joining the Rams as a second-round pick in 2021, but he’s a big-play threat who showed as much in the first quarter Sunday. The Rams needed someone to make a play, and the 5-foot-9 speedster delivered by hauling in Matthew Stafford’s perfectly thrown ball for a 54-yard pickup. RB Mosses CB Tevin Coleman is only 6-foot-1, but he played like he was 6-foot-5 in leaping over Myles Hartsfield for a 30-yard catch. Scoop & score Demarcus Lawrence didn’t wait for the offense to take the field to try and score the first points of the game. Instead, Lawrence picked up the ball after a strip sack from Dorance Armstrong Jr. and took it 19 yards to the house fewer than two minutes into the game. Taysom Hill is ELECTRIC The Saints got a much-needed victory over the Seahawks on Sunday, thanks almost entirely to Taysom Hill. He scored not one, not two, not three, but FOUR touchdowns as New Orleans outlasted Seattle in a 39-32 thriller. His final stat line: nine carries for 112 yards and three scores on the ground to go along with a 22-yard touchdown pass. If New Orleans hopes to contend for a playoff spot this season, it’ll need to lean more on Hill like it did Sunday. Back-breaking INT The Commanders are now 1-4 after Carson Wentz threw an awful interception at the goal line as they tried to go for the win late in the fourth. It marked his sixth interception in five games. Meanwhile, the Titans are on top of the AFC South after their third straight victory. Another rookie RB TD We’ve had rookies James Cook and Dameon Pierce score touchdowns today, and now Kenneth Walker III is on that list. Taking on a bigger load for the injured Rashaad Penny, the second-rounder burst through the middle and scampered untouched for the 69-yard touchdown. Game-winning FG no good Brandon Staley nearly gave the Browns the win after his Chargers’ fourth-down attempt failed in their own territory. However, the defense stepped up, and rookie Cade York’s 53-yard field goal attempt went wide right. Los Angeles moves to 3-2. Another red-zone INT Jacoby Brissett has been competent for the Browns through the first three quarters of games this season. But during the final frame, and more specifically with the game on the line, the Deshaun Watson fill-in has faltered badly. Just an ugly, ugly interception with a chance for Cleveland to take the lead with under three minutes left. Geno AGAIN Shockingly, the Seahawks have been one of the most fun offenses to watch so far this season. It’s basically just Geno Smith throwing deep to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and it’s been glorious. Smith just delivered another pristine touchdown pass to Lockett, this time for 40 yards. Taysom Hill doing it all This is the Taysom Hill we know and love. Not only has he rushed seven times for 51 yards, but his lone completion resulted in a 22-yard score for Adam Trautman. Browns-Chargers in a shootout Last season’s meeting between the Browns and Chargers resulted in 89 points — a 47-42 Los Angeles victory. We’ve got another shootout Sunday, as the teams have combined for 55 points entering the fourth quarter. The most recent score came courtesy of Kareem Hunt, whose two-yard score gave Cleveland back the lead. Dyami x2 Who’s Dyami, you ask? It’s the Commanders wideout Dyami Brown, a third-round pick out of North Carolina in 2021. It’s understandable if you don’t know him, because in his first 19 career games, he made just 13 catches for 171 yards and zero touchdowns. He’s already got 105 yards receiving Sunday and his first two career touchdowns, including this beautiful one-handed snag. Zappe delivers It’s been all Patriots in New England on Sunday. And while rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe hasn’t carried the offense, he’s been more than competent filling in for Mac Jones. Zappe has completed 16 of his 19 passes for 165 yards, one interception and this on-target touchdown to Jakobi Meyers to extend the advantage. First-career TD Shouts to the Bears’ Velus Jones Jr., who scored his first career TD on a dump-off jet sweep to pull the Bears within one score. First-career INT Oh no, Trevor Lawrence. Trying to force a pass into the end zone on second-and-1 from the seven-yard line, Lawrence threw it right to Derek Stingley Jr., the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft. Big mistake from Lawrence keeps the game all tied up. Lockett quiets the crowd The Saints looked poised to enter halftime with the lead. Then Alvin Kamara fumbled and Geno Smith did what he’s been doing all year, slinging the ball into a tight window to Tyler Lockett for the 35-yard touchdown in the final seconds. Josh Allen is INSANE It’s as if Josh Allen is playing Madden on easy sometimes. Against a Steelers defense that entered the contest allowing 251.5 passing yards per game, he has 348 yards and four touchdowns … IN TWO QUARTERS. Even crazier is that Allen has only completed 14 passes. That’s 24.9 yards per completion, which is just off the charts explosive. 10-for-138 That was Justin Jefferson’s stat line in the first half. Ten receptions (on 10 targets) for 138 yards. One of, if not the best wide receiver in football is showing out against the Bears. Catch of the day?  Of course anything is possible, but I don’t think we’ll see a better catch today than the one Darnell Mooney made against the Vikings. What a beauty! Gabe Davis have a day! An ankle injury slowed Gabe Davis through the first month of the season. He missed Week 2, and in the games he did play he only managed eight receptions for 138 yards. Well, he certainly looks healthy against the Steelers, as he’s racked up 160 yards ...

Over And Above Innovation: PandaMR Launches Its Metaverse – Newswire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/over-and-above-innovation-pandamr-launches-its-metaverse-newswire/ New Metaverse platform starts its journey. Press Release – Oct 9, 2022 21:00 EDT DUBAI, Arab Emirates, October 9, 2022 (Newswire.com) – PandaMR launches its Metaverse, a next-generation platform filled with features to help users get started in the new era of the Internet. It is available in the most user-friendly interface and will be open for any individual or company to establish their presence in the new digital realm. The concept of a metaverse has been relevant since the early 90s as a universal platform for all kinds of activity transferred into the virtual realm. Today’s metaverses could possibly be the level-up of the Internet with features that we need but don’t realize yet.  PandaMR’s metaverse is a web- and mobile-based platform. Right now, there are four main directions that the company is concentrating on: Business, Art, Education and Entertainment. The goal is to provide an adequate environment for each of these industries and develop tools that are necessary for these industries to stay in the Metaverse for a long time.  PandaMR positions itself as the “guide” for businesses to navigate through the Metaverse.   In the dedicated “Business Bay,” companies can organize onboarding and hiring processes, have internal meetings, plan corporate gatherings, hold conferences, and more. Thus, companies can stay one step ahead of the competition with little effort thanks to their future-proof investment in the metaverse experience. The “Education Hub” enables educational entities to establish virtual learning environments for engaging sessions.  For creative people, in just a few easy steps, the Art District provides artists with every chance to display their works.  “Many companies and individuals have heard about Metaverse, nevertheless most of them need additional guidance to make their first steps into the digital realm. We do the hard work of educating businesses and communities on how to get value from using metaverse solutions, and we do this with great enthusiasm and creativity,” said Vahe Khachatryan, Commercial Director at PandaMR. One may find an abundance of complex currencies which could be overwhelming. The NFT market and cryptocurrency sectors will be an option for PandaMR, with a lot of emphasis on diversifying payment methods and smoothing user experience. PandaMR extends a warm welcome to all newcomers and asks partners and metaverse aficionados to join efforts to build a Metaverse community that will be the driving engine for developing virtual solutions. Ether and the rest of the crypto top 10 by market capitalization also rose slightly, with XRP seeing by far the most gains. XRP gained 3.4% to change hands at US$0.53, bringing its gains for the past seven days to 18.9%, by far the most for any token in CoinMarketCap’s top 10. These gains come amid a series of positive developments for Ripple Labs Inc., the firm whose payment network is powered by XRP, in its ongoing lawsuit with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Most other tokens were trading higher, though were little changed. Dogecoin rose 0.8% to US$0.06, Solana was up 0.1% at US$32.90 and BNB gained 0.7% to US$278. U.S. equities closed lower in Friday trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2.1%, the S&P 500 Index dropped 2.8% and the Nasdaq Composite Index finished the day down 3.8%, leaving the tech-dominated index less than 1% above its low for the year. These losses followed news that the U.S. economy had added 263,000 jobs in September, while the employment rate fell from 3.7% to 3.5%, according to data the Labor Department released on Friday. The tight labor market suggested the Federal Reserve’s efforts to tackle inflation through raising interest rates has not been as effective as hoped. Fed Chair Jerome Powell has said the central bank will continue to raise interest rates until a target inflation rate of 2% is achieved, even if it risks pushing the economy into a recession. Inflation in the U.S. is running at 8.3% for the 12 months ending in August. Market analysts at CME Group are predicting an 82% chance the Fed will raise rates by a further 75 basis points at its next meeting in November.
