J Swygart | The Lima News LIMA — A new pharmacy opened its doors in Lima on Wednesday with the goal of returning to the days of a more personal relationship between health care providers and the patients they serve. As national chain stores have come to dominate the way medications and services are dispensed, the goal of the Total Health Care pharmacy “is to bring a community pharmacy back to Lima to better serve patients,” said co-owner John Stanovich. The business was the site of a ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by the Lima Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday morning. Located at 825 S. Cable Road, the pharmacy is located in a building which for years housed a pharmacy operated by Dr. William Leahy, whose practice remains next door. The Total Health Care venture is a “free-standing pharmacy that seeks to create a high-quality care model that includes some enhancements from traditional pharmacies,” said co-owner Marc Sweeney. Those innovations, he said, include new technology that allows pharmacists to monitor patients’ vital signs remotely and also a variety of therapy medications and consultations about their use and effectiveness. Stanovich, who is retired from the Colleges of Pharmacy at both Ohio Northern University and the University of Findlay, said Total Health Care will offer a holistic approach to better health, combining the filling of prescriptions and the sale of traditional pharmaceutical products but also helping customers better understand the role healthy living plays in a person’s overall well-being. “Pharmacists and physicians have always been separated in the services they provide, which often leads to a breakdown in communication. The needs of the patient often go unmet because of that lack of communication,” said Stanovich. Co-owner Tonya Dauterman said a goal of the new facility is to “cure patient inertia” and help those patients make changes in their health goals as necessary. Fellow owner Debra Parker said simply bringing an “independent-type feeling” to the business is important to earning patients’ trust. Pharmacist Angela Trent said she is excited to bring personalized care to her hometown of Lima. She will be at the site from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to meet the needs of customers. “Angie is an integral part of our patient care,” said Stanovich. The talks follow a rare request for emergency aid last week from the Havana government after Cuba suffered an islandwide loss of electricity, floods and extensive damage after its western third took a direct hit from Ian as it made its way toward Florida. Neither side has specified what kind of aid is being discussed. The State Department official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive diplomatic efforts. But the talks mark a new stage in sporadic efforts to communicate following President Donald Trump’s rollback of the normalization of ties that began in 2015, when Barack Obama renewed U.S. diplomatic relations with Havana’s communist government more than five decades after they were severed. President Biden campaigned on a pledge to relax the renewed sanctions and isolation of Cuba imposed by Trump, who also reinstated Cuba’s U.S. designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Biden’s administration has made only minor adjustments to the relationship, however, including allowing increases in the number of commercial U.S. flights to the island, loosening restrictions on sending remittances to family members by Cuban Americans, and permitting certain categories of U.S. citizen to travel there. Recently, the administration reversed an earlier refusal to issue a Treasury Department license to a Maryland-based producer of electric scooters and bicycles to privately owned companies in Cuba. There are also sporadic cuts to internet service, variously blamed by Cubans on the electricity problem and possible government intervention. Physical proximity, with only 90 miles separating the two countries, has meant that any hurricane affecting Cuba is likely also to take aim at the United States. Havana has rebuffed U.S. offers of assistance following previous major storms. In 2005, the United States rejected a Cuban offer to send physicians to New Orleans to assist in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The Biden administration offered unspecified technical assistance following an August fire sparked by lightning at a fuel storage facility in the city of Matanzas, east of Havana. The massive blaze continued for days and added to overall fuel shortages on the island. The Cuban government said it was grateful but did not follow up on the offer beyond the reported acceptance of some firefighting equipment. The two government have also held talks related to the record number of Cubans seeking admission to the United States across the Mexican border. In April, according to unpublished U.S. Customs and Border Protection figures obtained by The Washington Post, CBP was on pace to apprehend more than 155,000 Cubans during the current fiscal year, nearly four times the 2021 total and a twelvefold increase over 2020.

According to a spokeswoman, the parent company for CHI, Common Spirit Health, was the victim of a security incident that appears to affect the organization’s computer systems across the country. On Wednesday, 3 News Now received an email from a CHI patient who showed up for their scheduled blood test and was turned away. The patient says the staff was unable to look up their medical records and they were not notified ahead of showing up that they would not be seen. The situation, says the patient, is frustrating. A CHI employee tells 3 News Now that when patients walk in, staff essentially don’t know why the patient is there. They added that everyone has to fill out a hard copy of their patient information forms. “Another really big impact for us has been virtual visits where patients actually connect through there. We connect through the electronic health records system,” the CHI employee said over Zoom. “So if a patient doesn’t have our scheduling phone number to our program, then we are not able to do those visits at all. So we don’t know. Those patients are being left in the dark essentially if they connect and we are not there.” Another individual said they have no access to patient information and reminder calls for appointments are not happening either. They said they get updates every two hours and, right now, there is not an estimated time of restoration. There were several patients coming and going from one of the clinics on Wednesday and we spoke to a couple who were turned away after requesting an X-ray. They now have to go to the emergency room. 3 News Now reached out to CHI again to find out who is being impacted, what appointments are impacted, and how the healthcare system is currently handling patient care and information. Design Population based prospective cohort study. Setting The Nurses’ Health Study II (NHSII) and the Growing Up Today Study (GUTS I and II) in the United States. Participants 19 958 mother-child (45% boys, aged 7-17 years at study enrollment) pairs with a median follow-up of 4 years (interquartile range 2-5 years) until age 18 or the onset of overweight or obesity, including a subsample of 2925 mother-child pairs with information on peripregnancy diet. Main outcome measures Multivariable adjusted, log binomial models with generalized estimating equations and an exchangeable correlation structure were used to account for correlations between siblings and to estimate the relative risk of offspring overweight or obesity defined by the International Obesity Task Force. Results 2471 (12.4%) offspring developed overweight or obesity in the full analytic cohort. After adjusting for established maternal risk factors and offspring’s ultra-processed food intake, physical activity, and sedentary time, maternal consumption of ultra-processed foods during the child rearing period was associated with overweight or obesity in offspring, with a 26% higher risk in the group with the highest maternal ultra-processed food consumption (group 5) versus the lowest consumption group (group 1; relative risk 1.26, 95% confidence interval 1.08 to 1.47, P for trend0.001). In the subsample with information on peripregnancy diet, while rates were higher, peripregnancy ultra-processed food intake was not significantly associated with an increased risk of offspring overweight or obesity (n=845 (28.9%); group 5 v group 1: relative risk 1.17, 95% confidence interval 0.89 to 1.53, P fortrend=0.07). These associations were not modified by age, sex, birth weight, and gestational age of offspring or maternal body weight. Conclusions Maternal consumption of ultra-processed food during the child rearing period was associated with an increased risk of overweight or obesity in offspring, independent of maternal and offspring lifestyle risk factors. Further study is needed to confirm these findings and to understand the underlying biological mechanisms and environmental determinants. These data support the importance of refining dietary recommendations and the development of programs to improve nutrition for women of reproductive age to promote offspring health. Introduction Childhood obesity is rising at alarming rates in the United States.12 According to the National Center for Health Statistics and National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, the prevalence of overweight, obesity, and severe obesity among children and young people aged 2-19 years have increased from 10.2%, 5.2%, and 1.0% in 1971-74 to 16.1%, 19.3%, and 6.1% in 2017-18, respectively.1 Childhood obesity increases the risk of major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease,3 diabetes, and cancers,4 and premature death.5 One of the potential contributors to the obesity epidemic among children and young people is the unhealthy Western style diet characterized by increased consumption of ultra-processed foods, which constitutes more than half of all energy intake among young people and adults in the US.67 Ultra-processed foods are extremely palatable, energy dense, convenient, and shelf stable products made from refined and inexpensive ingredients using a series of industrial processes.8 Ultra-processed foods contain various types of additives, including stabilizers, artificial flavors, and artificial colors, and contain little, if any, whole food ingredients.89 Further, ultra-processed foods generally have higher sugar, sodium, and saturated fat content compared with less processed foods.89 Consistent evidence has linked ultra-processed food intake to excess body fat, overweight, and obesity in adults101112 and children.1314 Because the development of obesity can be attributed to the combined influence of genetic susceptibility and environmental factors,15 maternal diet might influence offspring’s predisposition to obesity and diet choice.161718 While Strohmaier and colleagues and Chen and colleagues have linked a healthy pregnancy diet to a reduced risk of obesity in children,1718 Dhana and colleagues showed that a healthier maternal lifestyle during offspring’s childhood and adolescence was associated with lower obesity risk in offspring.16 However, the specific impact of maternal ultra-processed food consumption during these two critical periods on offspring’s body weight remains unknown. We used cohorts of mother-child pairs to test our hypothesis that maternal intake of ultra-processed food during offspring childhood and adolescence (that is, child rearing period) was positively associated with the risk of incident overweight or obesity in offspring at age 7-18 years. We then analyzed the association between consumption of ultra-processed food during peripregnancy and offspring risk of overweight or obesity. Understanding these associations might help advance dietary recommendations and inspire actionable policies to improve maternal and offspring health. Methods Study population We included longitudinal data from mothers and their offspring who participated in the Nurses’ Health Study II (NHS II) and the Growing Up Today Study (GUTS I and II), respectively. The NHS II enrolled 116 429 female registered nurses aged 25-42 years when established in 1989, with questionnaires mailed biennially to gain information on relevant medical history and risk factors.19 From 1991, a validated semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire was also mailed every four years.20 The GUTS I cohort was established in 1996 when 16 882 children (aged 8-15 years) of NHS II participants completed the initial questionnaire on health and lifestyle and were followed up every year between 1997 and 2001, and biennially thereafter. In 2004, 10 918 children (aged 7-17 years) of NHS II participants joined the extended GUTS II cohort and were followed up in 2006, 2008, and 2011, and biennially thereafter. The study was approved by the Committees on the Use of Human Subjects in Research at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Voluntarily returning the self-administered questionnaire was considered informed consent in both cohorts. Participants A total of 18 920 mothers and 27 783 children were matched between NHS II and two GUTS cohorts and were eligible for our study (fig 1). We excluded mother-child pairs with implausible maternal energy intake (600 kcal/day or 3500 kcal/day, 411 mothers to 559 children) and pregnancy during follow-up (846 mothers, 1220 children). Additionally, we excluded mother-child pairs when children had missing baseline height and weight, or when they were overweight or had obesity at baseline (3110 mothers, 6046 children). The final analytic cohort included 19 958 children born to 14 553 mothers. To assess maternal consumption of ultra-processed food during peripregnancy (one year dietary assessment period that covered at least part of pregnancy), we restricted the analytic cohort to mother-child pairs when the mother had a singleton pregnancy because a multiple pregn...

You’ve heard me talk about for four years now on what I pride myself on as far as being a starting pitcher, and that’s definitely eating as many innings as I can. I feel like that 200 mark is a big one for starting pitching, especially nowadays.” Indeed, in the modern game pitchers need to go max effort to navigate lineups because unlike earlier eras, hitters one through nine can take you deep at any time. At the same time teams are less willing to let pitchers face the lineup the third time through. The result has been fewer and fewer 200 inning seasons since the Diamondbacks came into the league 24 years ago in 1998. That year there were 52 such seasons in MLB. Last year there were four.  Coming into play today there were just five pitchers who had already reached 200 innings in 2022. Two pitchers crossed that threshold in this game. Corbin Burnes came in with 199 innings, and pitched three scoreless innings before coming out of the game. Kelly reached the milestone in the sixth inning. The last time a Diamondbacks pitcher went 200 innings was in 2018, when Patrick Corbin and Zack Greinke did it.  Things didn’t look promising for Kelly when the game started. He began the first inning with a 10 pitch walk to Christian Yelich, who was later caught stealing on a great throw from Carson Kelly. He gave up a single to Willy Adames, but then got the next two batters, using 20 pitches to get through the inning. He needed 18 more pitches in the second inning, working around a one out walk and a stolen base.  Kelly was more efficient in the third and fourth innings, needing just 23 pitches to retire all six batters. Milwaukee got to him in the sixth for one  in the fifth. A single by Keston Huira and double by Victor Caratini gave the Brewers second and third with one out. But Kelly struck out Luis Urias and Caron Kelly threw out Willy Adames trying to steal third for the inning ending double play.  That was all for Kelly, as Torey Lovullo turned it over to the bullpen with the game tied at 1-1. Kelly’s final line was was Six innings, four hits, 1 earned run, two walks and seven K’s. He finishes the year 13-8, 3.37 ERA. He led the team in starts with 33 and innings with 200.1, earning the nickname “The Mainstay”.  The offense started slowly today thanks to Burnes electric stuff dominating the first three innings. He didn’t allow a baserunner while striking out five. Burnes 243 strikeouts led the National League in 2022. But Craig Counsel pulled him after three innings and went to the bullpen.  The D-backs immediately pounced on reliever Aaron Ashby. Pavin Smith singled with one out and advanced to second on a fielding error by the left fielder. One out later Christian Walker singled him home for his 94th RBI of the season.  Josh Rojas doubled to the wall in right center but Walker was thrown out at home trying to score on a great relay throw from Adames.  The D-backs had a runner in scoring position in each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings but failed to score. It looked like those missed opportunities would come back to haunt when Sean Poppen gave up a go ahead solo homer to Rowdy Tellez in the eighth, breaking the 1-1 tie. Poppen had come in when Caleb Smith had to exit with a left elbow injury with two outs. After the game Torey Lovullo said Smith would receive imaging tomorrow. Smith had become a very effective long man out of the bullpen and it would be a big loss for the team’s 2023 plans if he were to require surgery.  Despite that setback, the D-backs would not be denied. Walker lead off with a single, his third hit of the game. Josh Rojas then came up and launched his ninth homer of the year for the 3-2 lead. Corbin Carroll went yard next, upping the lead to 4-2. Kevin Ginkel closed out the win with a scoreless ninth for his first save of the year. The Diamondbacks finish on a high note and a season ending record of 74-88, a 22 win improvement over 2021.  After the game Torey Lovullo said about the late comeback:  “Our guys are intense, they don’t shut down”.   With a bevy of young players that arrived this season and performed well, and more on the way, the team is on the right path and if they can address their bullpen issues should have a good chance to finish over .500 in 2023 and compete for a playoff spot.

Also on the rise are gas prices, and soon, utility bills. This post originally appeared in KUOW’s Today So Far newsletter for October 5, 2022. Things are on the rise around Washington state these days. Fair warning: I’m going to throw a lot of numbers at you today. That is sort of a news no-no. But I have faith in TSF readers. For starters, Seattle’s minimum wage will go up in 2023. How much it goes up depends on where you work. Large employers (more than 500 employees), and other businesses that don’t contribute toward medical benefits, will start paying at least $18.69 per hour on Jan. 1. Small businesses that do contribute to health insurance will have a minimum rate of $16.50 per hour. Depending on where someone falls in that range, this adds up to a 75 cent or a $1.42 raise. At the same time, Washington state’s minimum wage will rise to $15.74 per hour. That’s a $1.25 raise (an increase of 8.66%), which is tied to inflation. This makes Washington state’s minimum wage the highest in the United States. Also on the rise are utility bills. Seattle City Light raised rates 6% a couple weeks ago (5.6% for businesses). Now Puget Sound Energy aims to raise its rates, too. The utility, that covers much of Western Washington, is asking permission from the state’s Utilities and Transportation Commission to hike rates. If the state approves, the average PSE customer can expect a rate increase of $8 in 2023, and about $2 in 2024. Gas customers would see a rate increase of $5 in 2023, and $1 in 2024. PSE says it needs to raise rates because of “rising natural gas prices, state policy objectives for clean energy, and continued investments in system reliability and safety.” Read more here. And once again, gas prices are heading higher. Gas prices were on a 14-week decline before prices began rebounding in late September. The current average for a gallon of regular gas in Washington state is $5.35, according to AAA. That’s 2 cents up from yesterday, and 25 cents up from a week ago. A month ago, it was $4.68. Some of the highest prices are in King County where the average is $5.56. In short, this all adds up to rising prices at the pump by a few cents each day. All the usual suspects are behind this trend: production snafus, hurricanes, and overseas conflicts. GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan says that gas prices are more or less severe in different parts of the USA. “Some West Coast states saw prices rise 35 to 55 cents per gallon in the last week as refinery issues continued to impact gasoline supply, which fell to its lowest level in a decade in the region, causing prices to skyrocket,” De Haan said. “While I’m hopeful there will eventually be relief, prices could go a bit higher before cooling off. In addition, OPEC could decide to cut oil production by a million barrels as the global economy slows down, potentially creating a catalyst that could push gas prices up further.” De Haan made that statement in an Oct. 3 blog post. NPR reported this morning that the OPEC+ alliance will cut oil production by 2 million barrels a day. That move is expected to cause gas prices to tick up even further. Bitcoin’s (BTC) price slumped a fraction of a percentage point on Wednesday but climbed back above the $20,000 level after slumping below earlier in the day. BTC had declined overnight and accelerated for several hours, with the sharpest decline occurring during the 13:00 UTC hour (9:00 a.m. ET), as U.S. traditional markets opened and ADP’s Employment report on job creation in the private sector arrived hotter than expected. BTC volume during the downturn exceeded its average volume during that time frame by 5 times. For BTC investors looking for bullish signs, on-chain analytics offer potential clues for bitcoin price expansion when volatility begins to increase. The net position change for stablecoins (denoted in green in the chart below) on cryptocurrency exchanges has begun to increase again, and has been net positive in each of the most recent 24 days. Often an increase in the balance of stablecoins implies additional buying pressure for an asset, whereas the increased supply of cryptocurrencies (i.e. BTC and ETH), implies increased selling pressure. For BTC investors leaning bearishly, the current bitcoin price appears to be near its production cost. Glassnode’s Difficulty Regression Model estimates the “cost of production” for BTC miners, and currently it puts that at approximately $18,081, or 11% below bitcoin’s current price. A reduction in BTC’s price below this figure is likely to add stress to bitcoin miners, which could have a downward impact on prices as well. Viewing that in conjunction with technical data, however, implies that while nearing the cost of production, buying support exists at levels above $18,000. A panel of three judges from the conservative-leaning 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s ruling against the program, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), but remanded the case in light of a new regulation issued in August. The decision is a mixed one for U.S. President Joe Biden, a Democrat, who said he wants a permanent pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients – often known as “Dreamers.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The court allowed for the current 594,000 DACA enrollees to maintain their status, but continues to block new applications. In remanding the case, the appeals court said it did not have enough information to rule on the new regulation, which is set to take effect on Oct. 31, but that the case should be resolved as quickly as possible. Artificial intelligence (AI) drives the mechanisms for HiCBM and HiCAMS and can diagnose the condition of mechanical equipment or identify and manage situations such as fires without human intervention. The integrated platform, Pont.OS, is an open platform that can integrate and control various autonomous functions of ships and is expected to provide an infrastructure that enables safe autonomous and remote operation of ships. New data shows that more people are moving out of the Rose City than are moving in. The Portland Business Journal, found that the population of the Portland metro area went up by just 0.1% between 2020 and 2021 — much lower than in years past. A group of about 15 Mann fans spent the night at Courtyard by Marriott off State Road 405 for close-up views of the noon crewed launch from pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center. The five-story Titusville hotel opened in April, capped by The Space Bar on the rooftop. “We had a great time in class. Duke was the No. 1 graduate out of our class,” recalled Mike Harris, a Navy civil employee and flight test engineer, referring to Mann’s pilot call sign. “We’re just super proud of her, and happy to be here to celebrate her launch. It’s her first launch into space. So we’re just excited for her, here to support her — and catching up with old friends,” Harris said. Mann — the first Native American woman to travel to space — is a U.S. Marine Corps colonel who served as an F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet test pilot.  The native of Petaluma, California, is commanding the Crew-5 mission, which is sending four people inside the Crew Dragon Endurance capsule to the ISS for about six months. Mann is joined by NASA astronaut Josh Cassada, Russian cosmonaut Anna Kikina and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Koichi Wakata. After returning from her second combat deployment during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, Mann reported in 2009 to U.S. Naval Test Pilot School in Patuxent River, Maryland. She and Harris attended Class 135. Artificial Intelligence May Improve Suicide Prevention In The Future – Tech Business News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/artificial-intelligence-may-improve-suicide-prevention-in-the-future-tech-business-news/ The loss of any life can be devastating, but the loss of a life from suicide is especially tragic Around nine Australians take their own life each day, and it is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15–44. Suicide attempts are more common, with some estimates stating that they occur up to 30 times as often as deaths. “Suicide has large effects when it happens. It impacts many people and has far-reaching consequences for family, friends and communities,” says Karen Kusuma, a UNSW Sydney PhD candidate in psychiatry at the Black Dog Institute, who investigates suicide prevention in adolescents. Ms Kusuma and a team of researchers from the Black Dog Institute and the Centre for Big Data Research in Health recently investigated the evidence base of machine learning models and their ability to predict future suicidal behaviours and thoughts. They evaluated the performance of 54 machine learning algorithms previously developed by researchers to predict suicide-related outcomes of ideation, attempt and death. The meta-analysis, published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, found machine learning models outperformed traditional risk prediction models in predicting suicide-related outcomes, which have traditionally performed poorly. “Overall, the findings show there is a preliminary but compelling evidence base that machine learning can be used to predict future suicide-related outcomes with very good performance,” Ms Kusuma says. Traditional suicide risk assessment models Identifying individuals at risk of suicide is essential for preventing and managing suicidal behaviours. However, risk prediction is difficult. In emergency departments (EDs), risk assessment tools such as questionnaires and rating scales are commonly used by clinicians to identify patients at elevated risk of suicide. However, evidence suggests they are ineffective in accurately predicting suicide risk in practice. “While there are some common factors shown to be associated with suicide attempts, what the risks look like for one person may look very different in another,” Ms Kusuma says. “But suicide is complex, with many dynamic factors that make it difficult to assess a risk profile using this assessment process.” A post-mortem analysis of people who died by suicide in Queensland found, of those who received a formal suicide risk assessment, 75 per cent were classified as low risk, and none was classified as high risk. Previous research examining the past 50 years of quantitative suicide risk prediction models also found they were only slightly better than chance in predicting future suicide risk. “Suicide is a leading cause of years of life lost in many parts of the world, including Australia. But the way suicide risk assessment is done hasn’t developed recently, and we haven’t seen substantial decreases in suicide deaths. In some years, we’ve seen increases,” Ms Kusuma says. Despite the shortage of evidence in favour of traditional suicide risk assessments, their administration remains a standard practice in healthcare settings to determine a patient’s level of care and support. Those identified as having a high risk typically receive the highest level of care, while those identified as low risk are discharged. “Using this approach, unfortunately, the high-level interventions aren’t being given to the people who really need help. So we must look to reform the process and explore ways we can improve suicide prevention,” Ms Kusuma says. Machine learning suicide screening Ms Kusuma says there is a need for more innovation in suicidology and a re-evaluation of standard suicide risk prediction models. Efforts to improve risk prediction have led to her research using artificial intelligence (AI) to develop suicide risk algorithms. “Having AI that could take in a lot more data than a clinician would be able to better recognise which patterns are associated with suicide risk,” Ms Kusuma says. In the meta-analysis study, machine learning models outperformed the benchmarks set previously by traditional clinical, theoretical and statistical suicide risk prediction models. They correctly predicted 66 per cent of people who would experience a suicide outcome and correctly predicted 87 per cent of people who would not experience a suicide outcome. “Machine learning models can predict suicide deaths well relative to traditional prediction models and could become an efficient and effective alternative to conventional risk assessments,” Ms Kusuma says. The strict assumptions of traditional statistical models do not bind machine learning models. Instead, they can be flexibly applied to large datasets to model complex relationships between many risk factors and suicidal outcomes. They can also incorporate responsive data sources, including social media, to identify peaks of suicide risk and flag times where interventions are most needed. “Over time, machine learning models could be configured to take in more complex and larger data to better identify patterns associated with suicide risk,” Ms Kusuma says. The use of machine learning algorithms to predict suicide-related outcomes is still an emerging research area, with 80 per cent of the identified studies published in the past five years. Ms Kusuma says future research will also help address the risk of aggregation bias found in algorithmic models to date. “More research is necessary to improve and validate these algorithms, which will then help progress the application of machine learning in suicidology,” Ms Kusuma says. “While we’re still a way off implementation in a clinical setting, research suggests this is a promising avenue for improving suicide risk screening accuracy in the future.” Austech Media Austech Media is Australian press release distribution and publishing organisation dedicated to the technology industry.
