King Arthurs long Road Ahead In Regenerative Wheat Food Business News
King Arthur’s “long Road Ahead” In Regenerative Wheat – Food Business News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/king-arthurs-long-road-ahead-in-regenerative-wheat-food-business-news/
NORWICH, VT. — While work is already underway in King Arthur Baking Co.’s regenerative agriculture initiative, the flour packaging company acknowledged the enormous scope of its commitment.
“As King Arthur works toward our goal of sourcing 100% of our flour from regeneratively grown wheat, we recognize there’s a long road ahead,” said Brad Heald, director of mill relations at King Arthur.
King Arthur recently announced its intention to commit to regenerative farming practices to produce 100% of its flour by 2030. At present, all of the company’s white whole wheat flour is supplied by Farmer Direct, which sources wheat from farmers using regenerative practices. Additionally, the company said it has enrolled in a 20,000+ acre regenerative pilot program with one of its milling partners, Ardent Mills, in Kansas.
Doug Nelson, a grower with Farmer Direct who has consulted with King Arthur, said, “This winter, we’re planning a grower network conference to be at the forefront of driving regen practices and share ideas and technologies to support each other.”
Mr. Nelson said farmers within their grower network openly exchange ideas on how to utilize regenerative agriculture.
“We’re always researching and looking at other options to expand the regenerative program for our own farming operation,” he said. “We’ve had field days and demo days in the past and look forward to hosting Kansas farmers and sharing our experience in the future.
“Every time we bring farmers to our land to share our experience and educate, we tend to learn more than we are providing. Our farms are an open lab for people to continue to learn from, and we welcome the learnings we gain from these days as well.”
In early 2021, King Arthur partnered with Ardent Mills on a regenerative agriculture program aimed at “strengthening the soil ecosystem and helping producers improve their farms’ productivity and profitability,” Mr. Heald said.
King Arthur has placed a few targets to help bring clarity to the subject. Mr. Heald said the company intends to develop new wheat sourcing guidelines; create a farmer engagement program that includes regenerative wheat practices and outcome metrics; and establish a council to guide growers on best practices and hold them accountable.
Going forward, Mr. Heald said the company will partner with farmers and mills to source from those already following regenerative techniques. With those growers and mills that haven’t adopted regenerative practices, he said they will work to transition additional acres.
Because the company’s growers operate in different regions, Mr. Heald said they have been looking at trusted advisor programs, crop consultants and people who can bring technical advances to farmers.
“We want to make sure every farmer in the regions in which we operate understands that we’re vested in partnering to support the transition to regenerative growing practices, and that our baking community is interested in supporting a more sustainable supply chain,” he said.
Partnership Of Key Local Employers Recognised For Its Plan To Make Manchester A Living Wage City Bdaily
Partnership Of Key Local Employers Recognised For Its Plan To Make Manchester A Living Wage City – Bdaily https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/partnership-of-key-local-employers-recognised-for-its-plan-to-make-manchester-a-living-wage-city-bdaily/
Manchester will celebrate receiving recognition from the Living Wage Foundation for its plan to make a Living Wage City at a meeting of the full Council this week (Weds 5 October).
As part of the Living Wage Foundation’s Making Living Wage Places scheme, local businesses and employers will be encouraged to pay employees the real Living Wage and become accredited as Living Wage Employers.
The alliance comprises Living Wage accredited employers from across the public, private and third sectors as well as civil society representatives and includes: University of Manchester, Bruntwood, KPMG, Manchester International Festival, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, VCSE (voluntary, community and social enterprise) charity MACC, One Manchester, GMMH, and Brighter Sounds.
Each of the alliance of Living Wage institutions have agreed to a range of targets over the next three years as part of their commitment to support Manchester in becoming a Living Wage City. They will use their influence in their sectors and as anchor institutions to urge more organisations to become Living Wage accredited employers.
Over 160 employers in the city of Manchester have already voluntarily committed to ensure all their staff and subcontracted staff receive a real Living Wage of £10.90 an hour, significantly higher than the government minimum of £9.50.
The Making a Living Wage City action plan launched today sets out how the alliance intends to double the number of workers covered by Living Wage accreditation in Manchester over the next three years This will result in 4000 extra workers in the city being uplifted to the real Living Wage as a result of Living Wage accreditation by 2025.
Manchester City Council is already an accredited Living Wage Employer (accredited in 2019 by the Living Wage Foundation). Today’s recognition expands the ambition of Manchester’s pledge and urges as many businesses as possible to pay their employees a true living wage to support them to lead prosperous, happy and healthy lives.
Cllr Bev Craig, leader of Manchester City Council, said: “Being recognised for Making a Living Wage City is a marker of our commitment to creating a Manchester where all of our residents can live happy and healthy lives and have the chance to share in the city’s success. Being paid the living wage isn’t just an arbitrary number.
“It’s an amount anyone needs in their pocket to lead their life without fear of poverty or being forced to work multiple jobs to pay their bills.
“As we see the impact of the cost-of-living crisis become reality, our residents being paid a fair and just amount will be even more important. We know there is a link between good employment, our health and mental health. And that a decent wage is needed to underpin our wellbeing.”

UEFA Champions League picks for Liverpool vs. Rangers
Before you tune in to Tuesday’s match, you need to see the UEFA Champions League picks from soccer insider Brandt Sutton. Sutton, a former collegiate soccer player, has been SportsLine’s top soccer editor for more than five years. He has followed soccer closely for much longer and factors in managerial tactics, projected lineups and past performances to make the most-informed decisions possible, keeping his finger on the pulse of the game all over the globe. Sutton also has been on a roll with his best bets, going 130-95-1 on his soccer best bets in 2022, returning more than $2,000 for $100 bettors.
For Liverpool vs. Rangers, Sutton is picking over 3.5 goals to be scored for a -125 payout. The expert points out that the English side has had success scoring goals on their home turf. However, they have also given up plenty of goals in their recent outings. While Rangers have yet to score a goal in Champions League play this year, Tuesday is their chance to right the ship.
“I expect the Scottish side to find the back of the net against a Liverpool backline that has conceded 10 goals in its last three fixtures across all competitions,” Sutton told SportsLine. “Liverpool have scored 16 goals in their last four games at Anfield, one of the main reasons I expect to see Over 3.5 goals scored in this matchup.”

NYDIG, the digital assets-focused subsidiary of financial services firm Stone Ridge, has raised approximately $720 million for its Institutional Bitcoin Fund.
According to a Form D filing made with the SEC, around 59 investors contributed more than $12 million on average to the raise. The filing however revealed that the SEC had not “necessarily” validated the accuracy and completeness of the filing.
NYDIG revealed in a press release following the filing that its Bitcoin balances have hit new a all-time high during Q3. Its holdings of Bitcoin grew “almost 100% year over year,” while revenue is up 130% through Q2.
The press release also announced a management shakeup at the company. NYDIG has promoted Tejas Shah and Nate Conrad to new roles of CEO and President respectively. The duo were previously NYDIG’s Global Head of Institutional Finance and Global Head of Payments, respectively.
The new officers are to lead the company in building on its current momentum with a focus on accelerating investment in crypto mining, custodial services, and Bitcoin Lightning Network integration. The release said:
“Building on this momentum, Shah and Conrad will focus on accelerating NYDIG’s investment in its industry-leading Mining Solutions franchise serving the largest North American miners and in its platform technology business, helping banks and non-bank enterprises utilize the Lightning Network for next-generation wallets and global payments.”
The departing CEO, Robert Gutmann, and outgoing president, Yan Zhao, will remain at Stone Ridge Holdings Group, the parent company of NYDIG.
NYDIG has been championing mainstream Bitcoin adoption
NYDIG, which describes itself as a Bitcoin company, has been one of the biggest champions of Bitcoin adoption by mainstream financial players. According to a Reuters report, NYDIG serves as the provider of institutional-grade Bitcoin custodial and fund management services to several banks that offer crypto investment to their clients including JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, and U.S. Bancorp.
Thanks to its other partnerships and funding rounds, NYDIG has become one of the biggest crypto custodians holding over $1 billion in crypto for its clients. The company reached a valuation of $1 billion last December.
Back in March, NYDIG saw its filing for a spot-settled Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) rejected by the SEC. The SEC has continued to refuse to approve a spot-settled Bitcoin ETF to be listed on regulated exchanges citing a lack of maturity of the crypto market.

Transit and Transit-oriented Development join rural projects and select applicants for the Department’s highly competitive INFRA/Mega/Rural Grant programs to be eligible for low-cost, flexible financing for nearly half of project costs
WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Build America Bureau will offer low-cost and flexible financing for transit and Transit-oriented Development (TOD) projects at the maximum level authorized under law. USDOT’s Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program is designed to help project sponsors reduce costs and speed the delivery of infrastructure projects, which saves taxpayer dollars and improves transportation in communities. This new initiative, “TIFIA 49,” authorizes borrowing up to 49% of eligible project costs for projects that meet certain eligibility requirements, helping more projects get off the ground. With few exceptions, TIFIA loans have historically been capped at 33% of eligible project costs.
“There are countless promising transportation projects with the potential to better connect people to housing, jobs, schools, and more – but that never get off the ground because of a lack of financing,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “The Department of Transportation has long offered flexible, low-cost financing to help bring some of those ideas to life, and now, with TIFIA 49, we’ll be able to support more of them than ever, and lower costs for taxpayers.”
“With its significant lending capacity, USDOT can play an integral role in supporting projects that make our transportation system more accessible, resilient and sustainable,” said Build America Bureau Executive Director Morteza Farajian. “The Bureau team is ready to partner with project sponsors on effective and efficient concepts, provide technical assistance on innovative approaches, and support them through the loan approval process.”
Sponsors of projects that include the activities listed below would be deemed eligible to apply for loans up to 49% of project costs under the TIFIA 49 initiative:
Transit:
Projects that are eligible for assistance under Chapter 53 of Title 49, U.S. Code.
Projects that construct or improve public transportation systems, including any capital project or associated improvement eligible for FTA funding, such as infrastructure and vehicles for bus, subway, light rail, commuter rail, trolley, or ferry systems.
Transit Oriented Development:
Projects that are eligible for assistance under 23 U.S.C. §601(a)(12)(E)
Joint development projects that involve coordinated improvement of transit infrastructure and non-transit facilities, including commercial and residential projects, that have mutual benefits and shared costs between transit agencies and developers.
Until now, the only projects eligible for financing of up to 49% included rural projects, as well as INFRA, Mega and Rural Grant “Extra” projects, which are highly-rated projects that were not granted discretionary funds due to limited resources.
The Bureau will conduct regular data-based assessments of the initiative’s effectiveness through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and will make changes as appropriate. In addition to financing, the Bureau also provides technical assistance for project sponsors and plans to expand outreach and technical assistance capabilities to assist project sponsors to take full advantage of this initiative. Learn more about TIFIA 49 here.
###
The Bureau was established as a “one-stop-shop” during the Obama Administration to help states and other project sponsors carry out infrastructure projects. The Bureau offers low-interest, long-term credit programs, technical assistance, and best practices in project planning, financing, delivery, and operation. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, signed by President Biden in November 2021, expands project eligibility for the Bureau’s TIFIA credit program and extends maturity of the loans, giving borrowers additional flexibility.
To date, the DOT has closed more than $38.4 billion in TIFIA financings, supporting more than $132 billion in infrastructure investment across the country.

Take-Two Launches Inclusion Videos With Gay Gaming Professionals VentureBeat
Take-Two Launches Inclusion Videos With Gay Gaming Professionals – VentureBeat https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/take-two-launches-inclusion-videos-with-gay-gaming-professionals-venturebeat/
Interested in learning what’s next for the gaming industry? Join gaming executives to discuss emerging parts of the industry this October at GamesBeat Summit Next. Register today.
Take-Two Interactive has partnered with Gay Gaming Professionals to post a series of videos that support diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) as well as its own internal employee resource groups (ERGs).
The partners will post a series of five videos from Take-Two’s various employee resource groups that focus on DE&I issues on the Gay Gaming Professionals’ YouTube channel starting on Wednesday. The groups will post new videos once a week.
I interviewed the leaders of some of the employee-run groups to understand the thinking behind the videos and the partnership. The first video is about allyship, or supporting people who are underrepresented in the company or society. Later videos will hit other diversity topics.
ERGs and ZERGs
Gordon Bellamy is a professor at USC and CEO of Gay Gaming Professionals.
One of the more interesting things I learned was that Zynga, a younger company founded in San Francisco in 2007, had a lot to teach Take-Two — founded in 1993 — about ERGs (which Zynga hilariously called ZERGs, after the faction in StarCraft) and diversity. Take-Two acquired Zynga for $12.7 billion this year.
GGP was also able to stir things up by coming up with ideas for cross pollination. The GGP organization led by CEO Gordon Bellamy, who is also professor of the practice of cinematic arts at the University of Southern California, was able to bring learnings from across the industry to Take-Two. Bellamy thinks of the organic ERGs as systems, which are different in their impact on diversity from just counting diverse people as a percentage of the whole company.
“I like to say it’s more in the batter than in the frosting,” he said in an exclusive interview with GamesBeat. “These are organizations. They aren’t transitory. They’re part of Take-Two. These people are valued and need to be empowered.”
He also said, “In this particular case, what we discovered are these incredible communities that exist every day, that are working on things in their own groups. They’re working on things collaboratively that exist right now. 2022. And it’s up to us to tell our stories. It’s up to us to amplify these stories. So that people working in the industry — who aspire to work in the industry, people who trust us with their time to play our games — have some visibility into what’s happening.”
Starting a video series
Alan Lewis is vice president of communications and public affairs at Take-Two.
Alan Lewis, vice president of corporate communications at New York-based Take-Two, worked with Bellamy on getting the project for the videos started.
Take-Two has been a longtime supporter and partner of GGP. Lewis said the initial conversations began with Bellamy in the winter of 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. Lewis asked GGP to become creators and curators of content and to use it as an educational platform. With the pandemic, there weren’t many live events to sponsor, but getting a message out online was still doable.
The teams started to work in 2021 and began storyboarding projects. At the same time, Take-Two announced its deal to buy Zynga, and it turned out that Zynga’s ZERGs were pretty advanced. And so the teams planned even more videos to do that could not only help employees but the whole industry.
“This series on the Gay Gaming Professionals channel will be a great opportunity to help educate other stakeholders both within the industry as well as those that are hoping to join the industry and pursue careers,” Lewis said. “And they’ll feel that there are spaces that not only represent them, but that will welcome them too. We have a lot to learn. And if we really want our creative forces to be truly representative of the audiences that they serve, we’re hoping that we can continue to broaden the scope and array of the diverse developers and creators and professionals that come to work for our organization.”
The partnership between Take-Two and GGP is part of a larger plan at the company and its labels over the last several years, focusing on support for afterschool programs, college scholarships, and more help for underserved and underrepresented communities, said Lewis.
“These programs are not only to allow us to give back, but it’s really about helping to cultivate and create the next generation of game players,” Lewis said. “It’s also about how we are changing our organization for the long term internally and really representing a lot of stakeholder groups. And one of the ways that we’re doing that is through our employee resource groups, and we refer to them as ERGs.”
Allyship
Eleanor Roach of Take-Two
The first video is about allies who are advocates, champions, and supporters in the company. Bellamy believes this is a way to establish the future ethics and culture of games.
“Unity and togetherness is incredibly important when it comes to getting work done,” Bellamy said in the video. “If you want your business or your product or you know your demographic to be pleased with the product that you’re selling them, you want to have people that understand and feel supported as they’re putting their blood, sweat and tears into that work.”
The goal of the Ally ERGs is to create a wider community that supports those who might otherwise feel that they’re part of a very small group within the company. The Ally ERGs can be a way for people to share their struggles and find people who are enthusiastic, encouraging, and welcoming, the first video in the series says. The company sees value in getting senior people involved in these initiatives.
“We need people to understand where people in our community are coming from,” said one ERG member in the video. “We need people to understand where people in our community are coming from. We need advocates, we need people to advocate for LGBT rights. It’s also nice to have allies within our ERG because not everyone is out or is out to a different degree. And so we have we want to create a space for everyone, including allies.”
Bellamy said he hopes the videos can inspire people far and wide.
“I’m hoping that this is going to help people inspire people in the industry, and outside, to want to join, to see reflections of themselves, to see people who are working actively, to make a space for people to be all that they are, just like people did for us 30 years ago,” Bellamy said. “There’s still a mystery about where your games come from. Right, where do they come from? And I think it’s important for us as a craft to tell our stories and to share who we are, why we’re doing this.”
The power of ZERGs at Zynga
Zynga is honored the LGBTQ+ community in 2021.
Once the Zynga-Take-Two deal closed, Zynga’s people began sharing their learnings about ZERGs.
“Since we’ve combined with Zynga, you know, all of our ERGs are now talking to one another and we’re trying to figure out ways in which we can maximize efforts to make our communities a great place to work and to be supportive,” Lewis said.
The partners chose to highlight the ERGs and ZERGS that are run by the stakeholders in the community. Take-Two wanted to share the learnings from those groups with the rest of Take-Two as well as the game industry.
Marcos Mancha is a licensing producer at Zynga and co-lead on the Z Pride ERG. Mancha is also a board member of the Amigos Latin X Latinus ERG and a part of a neurodiversity ERG. At Zynga for five years, he had never been in a company that had an ERG. Mancha learned more about it, he said in an interview.
“And I just love it,” Mancha said. “Being in an ERG or working at a place that has an ERG, especially in this climate where there is a lot of attrition happening with companies and people are leaving, is a very big reason why I have stayed with Zynga this long and will continue to stay.”
He described it as a mesh network, which exists in contrast to the way people typically work on games. They tend to work in silos and don’t communicate across group lines. The ERGs add an extra layer of communication across the company. That connects people to different teams.
“You start to collaborate in a way that is not just great for your personal growth and having an investment in the company itself. But it really does lend to the product. And being able to easily connect and move a lot more quickly within the company and really creates great quality products,” Mancha said.
ERGs and corporate human resources departments can and do work together at Zynga. Mary Plaisted, senior director of talent management and DE&I at Zynga, works in human resources on DE&I, social impact, learning, and talent management. She thinks the ERGs help improve the business outcomes at the company through things like anticipating different perspectives about games.
“I think about the work my team does, and then the work the ERGs do, and for me the two go hand in hand. My team actually can’t achieve the goals we set and the mission we’re on without really strong committed ERGs,” Plaisted said.
Zynga has ERG chapters for women in the United Kingdom, India, and other places where the company has offices.
Mancha noted how some of the games have been altered through the maturity of the ERGs. He said that CSR2 did a partnership with BMW to wrap a car with the rainbow flag for Pride in the racing game. Someone in the meeting asked what other games were doing. and from that question the idea spread to other games at Zynga. They got approval from Zynga’s leadership to spread the #PlayWithPride hashtag. The overwhelming response across employees and the market was positive, Mancha said. Within a year, the hastag made its way to a Times Square elec...

Fourth Quarter Opens With A Bang, US Futures Jump Sharply – 69News WFMZ-TV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/fourth-quarter-opens-with-a-bang-us-futures-jump-sharply-69news-wfmz-tv/
U.S. futures are sharply higher Tuesday, potentially extending a quarter-opening rally this week after a dismal September.
Futures for the Dow Jones industrials jumped 1.3% and futures for the benchmark S&P 500 rose 1.6% following Monday’s 2.6% gain. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite, which has been pummeled, lead the way with a 2% leap.
Global shares also bounced back with European markets tracking gains in Asia and the U.S. Monday after some weak economic data raised hopes that the Federal Reserve might step back from its aggressive interest rate hikes.
A report Monday on U.S. manufacturing came in weaker than expected, along with data showing a drop off in construction spending from July to August. It is hoped by many investors that the Federal Reserve might ease off on its aggressive interest rate hikes intended to beat down high inflation that has rattled businesses as well as families.
By raising rates, the Fed is making it more expensive to buy a house, a car or most anything else on credit with the goal of slowing the economy just enough to starve inflation of the spending that has driven prices higher.
The Fed has already pushed its key overnight interest rate to a range of 3% to 3.25%, up from virtually zero as recently as March. Most traders expect that to be more than a full percentage point higher by early next year.
But stresses are building in financial markets and corporate profits have weakened as central banks around the world hike rates in concert.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 jumped 3.8% to 6,699.30 after its central bank boosted its benchmark interest rate for a sixth consecutive month to a nine-year high of 2.6%. The Reserve Bank of Australia’s increase of a quarter percentage point to the cash rate was smaller than those at recent monthly meetings.
When the bank lifted the rate by a quarter percentage point at its board meeting in May, it was the first rate hike in more than 11 years. It’s now at its highest point since August 2013, when the bank cut the rate from 2.75% to 2.5%.
Besides stocks, lower rates also boost prices for everything from cryptocurrencies to gold, which can suddenly look a bit more attractive when bonds are paying less in income.
Elsewhere, Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 added nearly 3.0% to finish at 26,992.21. South Korea’s Kospi gained 2.5% to 2,209.98. Markets in Hong Kong and Shanghai were closed for holidays.
At midday in Europe, France’s CAC 40 gained 3.4%, Germany’s DAX rose 2.9% and Britain’s FTSE 100 added 1.9%.
The latest update on the U.S. jobs market, the labor turnover report, arrives Tuesday. The more consequential monthly jobs report is out Friday. .
It will be the last jobs report before the Fed makes its next decision on interest rates, scheduled for Nov. 2. Continued strength would give the central bank more leeway to keep hiking. Traders say the likeliest move is a fourth straight increase of a whopping three-quarters of a percentage point, triple the usual move.
In energy trading, benchmark U.S. crude added $1.16 to $84.79 a barrel. It jumped Monday amid speculation big oil-producing countries could soon announce cuts to production. Brent crude, the international standard, added $1.44 to $90.30 a barrel.
In currency trading, the U.S. dollar was stable at 144.81 Japanese yen from. The euro cost 98.90 cents, up from 98.40 cents.

South Health District encouraging mammograms
VALDOSTA – The South Health District is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by reminding women to schedule a mammogram appointment now.
Release:
Nearly 10 million cancer screenings were missed in the United States due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is the time to reschedule your mammogram appointment.
Breast cancer remains the second most common cancer among women in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Each year in the United States, about 264,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women and about 2,400 in men. About 42,000 women and 500 men in the U.S. die each year from breast cancer.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, public health officials are committed to providing education on the importance of breast cancer screenings, early detection and healthy living.
Through South Health District’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, women who are Georgia residents, uninsured or underinsured and low-income, and who are 40 to 64 years of age can get clinical breast exams, pelvic examinations, pap smears (if needed), and mammogram referrals.
“We understand that throughout the pandemic many people weren’t able to or didn’t feel comfortable going to the doctor,” said Missy Pollock, R.N. Women’s Health Coordinator. “Now is the time to reschedule those missed appointments and regain control of your health.”
For individuals who are unsure of their risk, the CDC explains that the risk of developing breast cancer is influenced by many factors, such as:
Getting older. The risk for breast cancer increases with age; most breast cancers are diagnosed after age 50.
Genetic mutations. Inherited changes (mutations) to certain genes, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2. Women who have inherited these genetic changes are at higher risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
Reproductive history. Early menstrual periods before age 12 and starting menopause after age 55 expose women to hormones longer, raising their risk of getting breast cancer.
Having dense breasts. Dense breasts have more connective tissue than fatty tissue, which can sometimes make it hard to see tumors on a mammogram. Women with dense breasts are more likely to get breast cancer.
Personal history of breast cancer or certain non-cancerous breast diseases. Women who have had breast cancer are more likely to get breast cancer a second time. Some non-cancerous breast diseases such as atypical hyperplasia or lobular carcinoma in situ are associated with a higher risk of getting breast cancer.
Family history of breast cancer. Women (as well as men) who have a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter, father or brother) with a history of breast cancer have two times higher risk of developing breast cancer compared to those who do not have this family history.
As with many types of cancer, medical experts do not know exactly what causes breast cancer, but they do know that early detection and healthy living can offer some protection.
There are also some modifiable risk factors that can increase your risk of developing breast cancer. These include weight gain after the age of 18, being overweight or obese (for postmenopausal breast cancer), use of combined estrogen and progestin hormone therapy, physical inactivity, long term heavy smoking, and alcohol consumption.
The following are recommendations to help reduce your risk of breast cancer:
Getting regular physical exercise.
Maintaining a healthy weight.
Limiting alcohol intake to no more than one drink a day.
If you are taking, or have been told to take, hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives (birth control pills), ask your doctor about the risks and find out if it is right for you.
Breastfeeding your children, if possible.
If you have a family history of breast cancer or inherited changes in your BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, talk to your doctor about other ways to lower your risk.
If you are a woman between 40 and 64 years of age and do not have health insurance or the resources to get a mammogram, you may be eligible to receive the health screenings you need at no cost through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program. To learn more about services in your area, call your local health department or visit them online at www.southhealthdistrict.com.
Remember, the best protection is early detection!
Rams Vs. 49ers Final Score Results: San Francisco Cruises To Victory After Stout Defensive Display Sporting News
Rams Vs. 49ers Final Score, Results: San Francisco Cruises To Victory After Stout Defensive Display – Sporting News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/rams-vs-49ers-final-score-results-san-francisco-cruises-to-victory-after-stout-defensive-display-sporting-news/
The catch was the hard part for Talanoa Hufanga. It bobbled as it hit his hands, nearly cratering toward the ground.
But the 49ers safety was calm as the ball squirmed in his grasp. And once he got a solid grip on it, everything else was relatively easy.
Hufanga’s pick six was the standout moment of a lively night at Levi’s Stadium. DeMeco Ryans’ defensive corps locked down Stafford and company, giving up just nine points en route to a comfortable victory on “Monday Night Football.”
Hufanga read this play like a book pic.twitter.com/zIGGpfWPes
— 49ers on NBCS (@NBCS49ers) October 4, 2022
It was a clash between two of the best defenses in football. And neither unit disappointed early, giving up just 10 points combined in the first quarter.
For all of Los Angeles’ talent, though, it just couldn’t stop the big play. Whether it was Jeff Wilson Jr. or Deebo Samuel, it seemed like whenever the Niners’ needed huge chunks of yardage, they got them.
San Francisco, on the other hand, proved stout. Cooper Kupp got his touches, as did tight end Tyler Higbee. But on the whole, Stafford and the Rams were ineffective, failing to find the end zone while showing a real inability to put the ball on the ground.
Much of that was due to San Fran’s stout defensive line. With seven sacks, roughly a dozen tackles for losses and countless QB hurries, it was a rough night for all those in the white and gold. Niners fans didn’t mind too much.

Rams vs. 49ers live updates, highlights from ‘Sunday Night Football’
(All times Eastern)
End of fourth quarter – 49ers 24, Rams 9
10:52 p.m.: FUMBLE! Ebukam gets his hands to Stafford once again, jarring the ball loose. The fumble ends up in the Niners’ hands, effectively putting this one on ice.
— NFL (@NFL) October 4, 2022
10:49 p.m.: Stafford nearly throws another dime into the 49ers grasp. However, the ball slipped through Fred Warner’s hands.
10:48 p.m.: The Rams keep themselves alive with a 13 yard gain from Kupp on fourth down. 2:02 left for them to rally.
10:44 p.m.: SACK! Hassan Ridgeway takes Stafford down behind the line of scrimmage. That’s the Niners fifth sack of the night. They are tearing L.A.’s offensive line to shreds.
10:37 p.m.: PICK SIX! Talanoa Hufanga breaks up Stafford’s screen pass to Kupp, taking it 52 yards to the house. That might be the death knell for Los Angeles, which just hasn’t been up to the races today.
— San Francisco 49ers (@49ers) October 4, 2022
49ers 24, Rams 9
10:35 p.m.: Higbee with another big catch past the first down marker. He and Kupp have pretty much provided the whole of the Rams offense tonight — they’ve combined for 150 of Stafford’s 176 passing yards.
10:32 p.m.: Huge miss from Gould on a 42 yard field goal attempt. He pulled it wide. Los Angeles is still in this. The Rams have a little over eight minutes to mount a comeback.
10:29 p.m.: Deebo with another huge play! 29 yards on the screen. Samuel has six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown today. One of the league’s most exciting players putting on a real show tonight.
10:23 p.m.: The Rams’ offense is finding it difficult to do much of anything tonight. That’s another three-and-out for the Niners’ defense, which has held tight all day.
Oh, and McCloud sliced through Los Angeles’ punt team for a 22 yard gain. It goes from bad to worse for the Rams, who desperately need a stop to stay within striking distance.
10:17 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Shanahan takes the conservative approach, putting his faith in San Fran’s defense to shut the door. Robbie Gould steps up and hits a chip shot field goal, extending the Niners’ lead to eight.
10:15 p.m.: Sooooo close from George Kittle. Garoppolo throws a dart into the Pro Bowl TE, who snags it beautifully. However, on further examination, Kittle couldn’t get his second foot down in time. It will be fourth down. Kyle Shanahan has a decision to make.
End of third quarter – 49ers 14, Rams 9
10:11 p.m.: …Not if Bobby Wagner has anything to say about it, though. The six-time All Pro linebacker stops Deebo and Wilson on back-to-back plays, holding them up as they looked to get another tuddy. That will end the third quarter. Rams desperately need a goal-line stand here.
10:10 p.m.: Juz with another impressive play, taking a handoff misdirection and juking outside the tackles for the first. The 49ers might be on the brink of another TD…
10:07 p.m.: The first play of the drive is a big one! Kyle Juszczyk fields a catch on the right sideline and trudges 35 yards down the field as cheers of “JUUUUUZ” swirl around Levi’s Stadium. Got to love it.
10:06 p.m.: FUMBLE! Jordan Fuller knocks the ball out of Ray-Ray McCloud’s grasp on the kick return. However, it falls into the path of a 49ers player. Phew.
10:03 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Stafford should have been picked off after missing an open Higbee on the slant. He got fortunate that the ball dropped to the turf, but it represents another missed opportunity for Los Angeles, who has to settle for a Gay chip shot.
49ers 14, Rams 9
10:01 p.m.: Charvarius Ward with a huge deflection, denying Allen Robinson an easy touchdown grab. San Francisco is stepping it up when its backs are against the wall.
10:00 p.m.: Kupp finds space behind the tackles on a screen play, gaining 14 yards in the process. Los Angeles is on the doorstep of the end zone.
9:58 p.m.: SACK! 49ers put Stafford on his back once more, their fourth sack of the day. That’s one way to limit the effectiveness of the passing game.
9:57 p.m.: FIRST DOWN! Cam Akers skips through the tackles to get a handful of yards, good enough to move the chains on fourth down. Los Angeles is approaching the red zone.
9:54 p.m.: Slowly but surely, Los Angeles is getting into rhythm. Stafford is 5/6 for 51 yards in the Rams’ first drive of the second half. They’re inside the 50 and Kupp is getting major targets at the moment — he’s got 10 catches already.
9:52 p.m.: It must be said: San Fran is bringing the heat on blitzes. The Niners have sent the cavalry over 30% of Stafford’s drop backs, resulting in three sacks. Speeding up his clock and limiting his options. Seems they’ve keyed in on L.A.’s lack of depth up front.
9:48 p.m.: A quick first drive of the second half ends in a punt for the Niners. Let’s see if the Rams can finally get their offense on track.
End of second quarter – 49ers 14, Rams 6
9:26 p.m.: SACK(S)! The 49ers firmed up second and third down, sending Stafford to the canvas on back-to-back plays. Another Rams punt is looming.
9:25 p.m.: When you need a big play, call Kupp. The All-Pro wideout turns a precise curl route into a first. Big play given how languid Los Angeles’ offense has been (excluding Kupp and Higbee) so far.
9:18 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! What a play by Deebo Samuel! He stretches to grab an errant Garoppolo throw, dekes past a defender, takes it down the right sideline and runs over Jalen Ramsey on his way to pay dirt. 57 yards to the house in the blink of an eye.
— San Francisco 49ers (@49ers) October 4, 2022
49ers 14, Rams 6
9:15 p.m.: Jimmy G making plays with his legs, who would’ve thought? Garoppolo scrambles for five, moving the chains on third down.
9:10 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! San Fran’s defense holds inside the red zone. All the 49ers can muster is another three points from Gay.
49ers 7, Rams 6
9:06 p.m.: Another snag for tight end Tyler Higbee, his fifth of the game. Rams getting into a bit of a groove on offense; they’re just outside the red zone.
9:05 p.m.: Kevin Givens whistled for an encroachment call that gives the Rams an automatic first down. Not what you want to see from the nose tackle if you’re a SF fan.
9:01 p.m.: Jimmy G just misses a pair of throws to open receivers Warner and Jennings as the Niners’ drive flames out. The ball is headed back to L.A.
8:57 p.m: Deommodore Lenoir locks down Kupp on third down, forcing Stafford into an errant throw into the sidelines. Wonderful bit of play by the 22-year old, who has really started to come into his own this year.
Another punt looming for L.A.
8:52 p.m.: Jennings with a vital drop on third down to end San Fran’s threat. Looks the ball is headed back to L.A.
8:50 p.m.: Garoppolo and the Niners doing a good job early of cutting through Los Angeles’ coverage. Another first down, this time via an Aiyuk catch and dash on the screen play.
End of first quarter – 49ers 7, Rams 3
8:46 p.m.: Garoppolo starts drive two with another smooth feed to Samuel, who gets past the first down marker.
Jimmy G and Deebo linking up well early.
8:42 p.m.: SACK! Nick Bosa does what Nick Bosa does, slamming Stafford into the ground for the sack. That’s his fifth sack of the year and it forces L.A. to punt the ball away. Boom.
8:37 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Jeff Wilson finds a lane behind tight end Charlie Warner and takes it into the house to give San Fran the lead. Perfect start.
— San Francisco 49ers (@49ers) October 4, 2022
49ers 7, Rams 3
8:31 p.m.: Jauan Jennings uses Deebo Samuel’s gravity to grab the first down. With the Rams keying in on Samuel in their coverage, Jennings finds some space and gets to the first down marker.
8:29 p.m.: Jimmy Garoppolo starts the 49ers first offensive series with a nice throw to Brandon Aiyuk for the first down.
8:25 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Ebukam’s sack was the difference, forcing the Rams into a field goal. Matt Gay splits the uprights from 39 yards out to give Los Angeles the lead.
Rams 3, 49ers 0
8:23 p.m.: SACK! Samso...
Walmart Enters Metaverse With Roblox Experiences Forbes
Walmart Enters Metaverse With Roblox Experiences – Forbes https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/walmart-enters-metaverse-with-roblox-experiences-forbes/

Walmart is entering the metaverse with two separate experiences starting this week. One is Walmart Land and the other is Walmart’s Universe of Play, which is a gaming platform using Roblox.
According to CNBC the retailer is experimenting with new ways to reach shoppers to shake up their shopping habits after the pandemic. It is trying to fuel consumer’s engagement with social media, apps and gaming websites.
Walmart’s marketing chief William White, said the company will use Roblox as a testing ground, as it considers other moves in the metaverse and beyond. He said that the experiences are designed with the next generation of shoppers in mind. The company is targeting Gen Z shoppers which are young, around 25 years of age or younger. White said that he expects the company to learn from the partnership.
White’s approach is novel for Walmart. As he describes it, when he asked “How are we driving relevance in cultural conversation? How are we developing community and engagement. How are we moving the needle to increase from a brand favorability with younger audiences. That is what we are trying to accomplish here.”
It has now been stated that Walmart filed for metaverse related trademarks earlier this year. Some of the trademarks relate to asking or selling virtual goods and offering users virtual currency, as well as non-fungible tokens ore NFTs.
Walmart has already hosted shoppable livestreaming events on TikTok and You Tube. It has developed meal recipes through a partnership with Meredith. Meredith is the media company that owns Allrecipes as well as Parents, and Better Home & Gardens. It is trying to fuel consumer’s engagement with social media, apps and gaming websites.
Walmart has also rolled out an augmented reality-powered tool on Pinterest that allows shoppers to see how furniture or décor would look in their own home before they buy it.
White said Walmart will not make any money from the current immersive experiences. Gamers can earn tokens and other rewards to put toward virtual merchandise on Roblox. National brands such as L.O.L., Surprise! and Skullcandy headphones, were included in the tests bases on the popularity with Roblox’s younger audience of gamers – not based on paying. Walmart could make money from the experiences, by charging a brand for inclusion.
POSTSCRIPT: Walmart efforts to enter the metaverse is to attract more younger shoppers – aged around 25 – the so-called Gen Z. While they spend a lot of time on the internet, Walmart wants more of their attention. Nike has done a great job to be part of Gen Z’s life. While Cryptocurrency may be dangerous investments for young people with limited assets, other aspects of the metaverse are very appealing to them
New French Headphones Are Music To My Ears News.com.au
New French Headphones Are Music To My Ears – News.com.au https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/new-french-headphones-are-music-to-my-ears-news-com-au/
They are lustrous, metallic and polished. And they exude French style.
High-fidelity audio brand Focal has just launched Bathys, the Saint-Étienne-based company’s first wireless headphones with active noise cancellation.
The firm is known for high-end home and car speakers, and has transferred its rich expertise to the realm of wireless headphones.
Focal sent me a pair to try out and it is patently obvious that it is serious about delivering the gold standard (literally — the company famously made diamond and gold encrusted headphones).
The sound quality on the new Bathys headphones is crystal clear — absolute music to my ears. They deliver a deep bass, soft trebles and a clear mid-range.
The headphones are wireless through 5.1 Bluetooth, but can also be wired though the USB-DAC mode. There are two cables provided; a 1.2m 3.5mm jack and 1.2m USB-C, so you can plug in when needed. The integrated USB-DAC mode offers a resolution of up to 24 bit/192kHz — impressive!
The battery lasts for more than 30 hours and are fast-charging enabled, meaning you can get about five hours of listening from just 15 minutes of charging.
French style
The first thing that caught my eye was the distinctive earcup grilles. Focal used magnesium on the yokes, real leather on the headband and aluminium for a robust construction.
Focal’s flame symbol features at the centre of the earcup, which can incorporate a white backlight system that can be activated if desired — for a pretty cool visual effect.
The carrying case is also elegant and lightweight.
I used the headphones on my daily trip to the office in Sydney — from Parramatta to Central. The noise-cancelling headphones were great for the morning commute.
You can also use the headphones to make phone calls. I had a chat to my parents using the wireless headphones and they reported the “Clear Voice Capture” microphone picked up my voice well.
There are two noise-cancelling modes; a “silent” mode for high background noise (this came in handy on the train) and a “soft” mode designed for the home or office. I used the “soft” mode while studying to escape into Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, and it helped me to focus. The headphones also aided me in avoiding the noise of my two young daughters rampaging around. There’s also a “transparency” mode that allows you to hear sounds around you when needed.
The headphones were really easy to use and set up. When you press a button, a voice reads out the time and any notifications.
The headphones are also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
There’s an app for accessing more custom settings including the equaliser and sound controls.
Final thoughts
The headphones provide the winning combination of high-fidelity sound and French style.
The Bathys wireless headphones are a fantastic travelling companion.
The new Focal Bathys headphones are available via Addicted To Audio for RRP $1199.

Fixed 90% APY With Oryen (ORY) Outperforms Pancakeswap (CAKE) And Spookyswap (BOO) Returns – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/fixed-90-apy-with-oryen-ory-outperforms-pancakeswap-cake-and-spookyswap-boo-returns-cryptonews/

With the recent introduction of yield farming on the Binance Smart Chain, many users are wondering which platform offers the best return on investment. While Pancakeswap and Spookyswap are both popular options, Oryen is quickly becoming the go-to choice for yield farmers.
Offering a fixed APY of 90%, Oryen significantly outperforms both Pancakeswap and Spookyswap, which offer APYs of around 10-20%. Additionally, Oryen offers a more hassle-free investing process for its investors than either of its competitors, making it a better idea overall.
What is Oryen (ORY)?
Oryen Network is a crypto-staking network that offers a juicy APY of 90% on ORY coins. ORY provides users with other utilities like risk-free lotteries (to be introduced soon) in addition to the platform’s super-simple auto-staking protocol.
To do this, Oryen employs a “rebase” approach, which means that the token’s circulating supply will rise in line with the treasury in order to guarantee both the token’s price and the interest rate.
The rebase tokens aren’t generated at random. They have a risk-free value that is funded by the “buy and sell” tax on the token. The buyer pays an 8% royalty, or “tax,” while the seller pays a 12% royalty, or “tax.” The treasury also carries additional equity to keep the floor in place in the event of a severe price decline.
But the best thing about Oryen is that its holders don’t have to do anything to get their money. Simply purchase and keep ORY in your wallet. Tokens are automatically staked, and rebase rewards are automatically airdropped back into the wallet of the holder.
Final thoughts
Oryen is now launching a three-round pre-launch ICO with a token price of $0.05 + bonus tokens. The incentive percentage lowers at the end of each month to entice early birds. Oryen will go live on December 30, 2022. This is one ICO that we are confident will sell out.

LONDON, Oct 4 (Reuters) – The dollar slid on Tuesday, as U.S. Treasury yields paused in a relentless climb higher, providing brief relief to share markets and helping the euro in particular move further off multi-year lows.
The Australian dollar was also in focus, sinking after the nation’s central bank surprised markets with a smaller-than-expected interest rate hike.
The euro was last up 0.67% at $0.9889, a moderate recovery from its 20-year low of $0.9528 on Sept. 26, while sterling was up a touch at $1.1337, off a record low of $1.0327 also hit Sept. 26.

A calmer British government bond market was a relief for the pound after recent government-inspired turmoil. In a statement on Monday, the Bank of England reaffirmed its willingness to buy long-dated gilts and the head of Britain’s debt management office, overseeing the bond market, told Reuters in an interview the market was resilient.
However, demand was soft for a sale a 40-year British government bonds.
“The pullback by the U.S dollar has coincided with a sharp correction lower for U.S. yields,” MUFG analysts said in a note to clients, adding that the two moves had “brought some much-needed relief for risk assets and high-beta currencies.”
MUFG flagged the New Zealand dollar up 2.6% since the start of the week and Norwegian crown , up 3% this week, as particular beneficiaries.
The dollar index was down 0.55% at 111.12 having traded as high as 114.78 last week.
The moves in the dollar and yields appear to partially reflect market participants’ greater comfort that the Fed is moving closer to the end of its rate hike cycle, MUFG said, expectations that were supported by weak U.S. manufacturing data released Monday.
“Market expectations for the Fed’s terminal policy rate for next year have come down from around 4.75% to 4.39%,” they added.
The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield was last 3.5815%, down sharply from last week when it briefly poked above 4%.
The relentless climb in U.S. yields, as the Federal Reserve raises rates aggressively, has been one factor behind the dollar’s recent gains.
Shares in Asia and Europe also rose on Tuesday in line with the improved sentiment, following overnight gains in the United States
Elsewhere the dollar was little changed against the Japanese yen at 144.7 yen , keeping below 145 after briefly popping above that level on Monday for the first time since Japanese authorities intervened to support their currency on Sept. 22.
Japanese finance minister Shunichi Suzuki repeated on Monday that authorities stand ready for “decisive” steps in the foreign exchange market if “sharp and one-sided” yen moves persisted.
The Australian dollar was down 0.64% at $0.6472, dragged down after the Reserve Bank of Australia raised rates by a smaller-than-expected 25 basis points, saying rates had increased substantially in a short period of time.
“Obviously the RBA hasn’t been persuaded by what other central banks are doing, which does make the comment that they don’t have any concerns about the exchange rate down here,” said Ray Attrill, head of FX strategy at National Australia Bank in Sydney.
“There’s no evidence yet that other central banks are about to step down the aggression with which they are tightening policy, (so) I think it makes sense for Aussie to be below 65 for the time being.”

Man Identified In 20-Year-Old Ridgefield Cold Case – The Reflector https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/man-identified-in-20-year-old-ridgefield-cold-case-the-reflector/
The Reflector
A man found dead in Ridgefield 20 years ago has been identified following an investigation using genealogy and DNA evidence.
On Sept. 27, the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office announced it had confirmed James Orin Johnson Sr. as the previously unidentified person discovered on Jan. 13, 2002. The confirmation followed several months of investigating potential family members which eventually discovered the children, brother and former wife of Johnson who assisted in identifying their relative.
The medical examiner’s office sent a DNA sample from Johnson’s remains to Bode Technology, a forensic laboratory in Virginia, which specializes in extracting DNA from difficult samples, a release from the office announcing the identity confirmation stated. The company used the sample to predict Johnson’s ancestry and compared it to online genealogy databases that allow searches of unidentified individuals.
The company found a link to two sisters born in Oregon in the mid-1800s, the release stated. They then compiled a list of distant relatives for the medical examiner’s office to use in the case.
Christine Holroyd, an investigator with the county’s medical examiner’s office, contacted potential family members for months to find a link to the remains. Holroyd worked on the cold case between her work on current cases, the release stated. Death investigations have outpaced population growth in Clark County, increasing by nearly 60% between 2012 to 2021 compared to a population increase of about 19%.
The examiner’s office’s operations manager Nikki Costa met with a descendent of the two sisters, Arlene Zumwalt, in May, according to the release. Zumwalt agreed to provide DNA to use as a reference sample to narrow down which branch of the family tree to search.
The examiner’s office brought that reference sample to Bode Technology whose forensic genealogists analyzed it. The release stated the company determined the unidentified man was likely the biological son of Judith Cox Johnson in August.
Bode Technology noted Judith Johnson’s son, James, “appeared to have no traceable activities since mid-2001,” the release stated.
Costa found the children and brother of Johnson, the release stated. His son, Jaccob, confirmed the family had not heard from Johnson in more than 20 years.
In 2003, Candy Hallenger, Johnson’s former wife, hired a private investigator to find Johnson, the release stated. For two decades, his family wondered about his whereabouts.
Johnson’s son, James Jr., uploaded his DNA profile to GEDmatch, a website that allows users to opt in to law enforcement searches during genetic genealogy investigations. Bode Technology forensic genealogists determined the two samples matched a parent-child relationship, the release stated.
Clark County Chief Medical Examiner Martha Burt concurred the remains were that of James Johnson Sr.
“This great work by our team helped to provide a family with answers they had been waiting 20 years to receive,” Burt said. “The Medical Examiner’s Office is committed to finding the names of all unidentified decedents in Clark County.”
Costa met with Johnson’s son Jaccob and his wife, Kathryn; daughter Catreena and his former wife Hallenger on Sept. 17 to walk through the case, the release stated. Costa said the case was one of the most rewarding experiences of her career.
“Jaccob gave me a hug that communicated so much. I will remember it for the rest of my days,” Costa said.
“The medical examiner’s office encourages people to consider uploading their DNA profiles from other direct-to-consumer genealogy companies to databases (like GEDmatch) and opting-in to public searches,” the release stated. “Doing so can help bring names to the unidentified, provide closure to their families, and help law enforcement identify perpetrators of violent crime.”

Last Updated 3 mins ago
The U.S. dollar has never been as strong as it is now.
In spite of the United States’ slower-than-expected post-Covid recovery and latest political imbroglios, the dollar has moved upwards while most of the competing currencies, including the Euro and the British pound, which have always been much stronger, fell hard. In simpler terms, the U.S. dollar is absolutely crushing it, making travel much cheaper for Americans.
While we will not focus on why the dollar is so strong right now, given the economic nature of the matter and the fact that we are a travel news website, one thing you should know is that the ‘extra demand’ for dollars resulting from the mass purchase of bonds, has further strengthened the world’s most traded currency.
Consequently, as investors opt for dollars instead of other currencies from more volatile markets, these tend to drop in value:
The Dollar Is Now Officially Worth More Than The Euro, And It Could Be Coming For The British Pound Next
As stated in a Guardian article published this week, UK travel is ‘on sale’ – that is, for Americans and/or those earning in U.S. dollars. Tour operators in Britain have classed September as their ‘best month’ in overall performance since 2019. This means that, during the pandemic era, no other month has had as many bookings.
Effectively, Americans are flying to the UK in their droves to benefit from the weaker pound (GBP). While last year it was trading at GBP 1.00 per USD 1.37, this year it’s reached the dollar has reached a historic high of USD 1.03 to the pound. Since September 25, a week ago, it has fluctuated between the 1.08 and 1.11 marks.
According to Lana Bennett, the chief executive of Tours International, interviewed by the British publication, the booking surge is ‘quite good news’ for British tour operators. As Bennett puts it, there’s ‘a lot more certainty, more keenness’ on Americans’ part to take advantage of the depreciated pound.
Elsewhere in Europe, the dollar is exchanged at an even better rate, with the Euro currently exchanged at a USD 0.98 rate on October 02, 2022. Earlier this year, we reported Europe’s multi-national currency had hit parity with the dollar for the first time in recent history – now, it is worth far less, performing worse than the pound even.
Dollars Go Furthest In These European Destinations
Across Europe, Americans may find it cheaper to book flight tickets and reserve accommodation, especially along Europe’s easternmost flank. While not all destinations in the continent use the Euro, most of them are part of the European Single Market, and their currencies are semi-pegged to it, increasing vacation options for Americans on a budget.
This year, the European country where the Euro is in use and Americans will get the best value for their buck is Montenegro, which ranked at number seven on Eurostat’s comparative list of price levels for consumer goods and services. Interestingly, Montenegro is neither in the EU nor uses the Euro legally, having unilaterally adopted the currency in 2002.
Other European destinations that will be favored by Americans looking not to splurge, in spite of the dollar’s excellent conversion rate, are:
Turkey
North Macedonia
Romania
Bulgaria
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Out of those, Turkey is the cheapest for Americans traveling to Europe/Western Asia and based on the liquidation of the Turkish Lira, this should come as no surprise. In late September, it was close to reaching an all-time low of TRY 20.00 to USD 1.00, and due to the Turkish President’s controversial economic approach, it may not recover anytime soon.
Asian And South American Become Cheaper Also
Elsewhere in the globe, Japan’s yen is also facing a strong depreciation, with USD 1.00 now buying JPY 144.55 – throughout the pandemic, it oscillated between 103 and 115 yen, proving Japan’s conservative measures in tackling the Covid crisis, which were only partially reverted recently, took a heavy toll on its tourism-dependent economy.
In Latin America, traditionally an affordable destination for U.S. citizens, Argentina takes the crown as the country with the most depreciated currency. At present, on September 10, USD 1.00 equals a whopping ARS 147.54, a sharp drop compared to the start of the year when the exchange rate averaged ARS 100.
Inflation is at a record-high worldwide, threatening to plunge the world’s leading economies into a crippling recession pit. While in the U.S., the situation isn’t much better, the power of the dollar has remained a constant in the life of Americans, unlike Europeans, Brits, the Japanese or Turks, who have seen their own markets struggle to uphold value.
Bottomline
Weaker currencies are surely not good news for locals, but the overall economic depression may benefit those who are earning U.S. dollars and planning on traveling internationally soon. We must remind you this article was written based on information available at the time, and that currency exchange rates are liable to change daily.

Soccer Predictions Best Bets Today: Betting Tips Expert Picks For Games On Tuesday October 4 Sporting News
Soccer Predictions, Best Bets Today: Betting Tips, Expert Picks For Games On Tuesday, October 4 – Sporting News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/soccer-predictions-best-bets-today-betting-tips-expert-picks-for-games-on-tuesday-october-4-sporting-news/
It’s all about the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday with eight matches on the slate.
Our best bets for four of the eight Champions League matches are outlined below, including two moneyline/goal total parlays.
The Tuesday slate has plenty of attractive matchups, including Inter-Barcelona and Liverpool-Rangers, but those two matches did not present much value to our experts.
Instead, they’re banking on goals in Ajax-Napoli and Eintracht-Tottenham, as well as Olympique Marseille and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala to have standout performances.

Ajax vs. Napoli prediction, best bet
Best Bet: Napoli to win & 2+ goals
Odds: +380 (Caesars)
Prediction (Win/Draw): Napoli
Napoli are on a roll, and have a chance to make it three wins from three in Champions League Group A, having already blasted Liverpool and Rangers. They score loads of goals, with Georgian wonderkid Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in spectacular form.
Ajax are in a slump, winless in their last three matches, but have gone way under their expected goals total in each of those three games. Both teams should find the back of the net, and the Italian side to come out on top. — Kyle Bonn
* = Napoli and Over 2.5 goals is available on Sports Interaction at 3.90.
Marseille vs. Sporting CP prediction, best bet
Best Bet: Marseille win & Under 3.5 goals
Odds: +190 / 2.90 (Sports Interaction)
Prediction (Win/Draw): Marseille
These two teams have been incredibly wonky, with Marseille looking great in Ligue 1 play but terrible in the Champions League, while Sporting have slipped in league play but they are perfect through two European games.
Something has to give, and expected goals (xG) can provide some insight.
Sporting have won their two UCL games by a combined 5-0 score, but registered under 1.0 xG in both games. Meanwhile, Marseille haven’t been great offensively, but are spectacular at the back and were unlucky to lose their Champions League games, with an early red card in one and bunch of chances missed in the other. This is a game where things regress to the mean on both sides. — Kyle Bonn

Bayern Munich vs. Viktoria Plzen prediction, best bet
Best Bet: Jamal Musiala anytime scorer
Odds: +115
Prediction (Win/Draw): Bayern win
The most interesting angle in a match that is expected to be lopsided is the anytime scorer market, where there are six Bayern players listed at less than even money. Attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala is not one of them and that’s value.
The teenager has scored in six of the 11 matches in which he has played for Bayern this season, and two of his goal-less matches were cameos off the bench. Given this will be a game with few spaces for Bayern, the scoring edge should go to players who can create their own shot or make the ghosting run from midfield. Musiala excels at both. — Simon Borg
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham prediction, best bet
Best Bet: Over 2.5 total goals
Odds: -135
Prediction (Win/Draw): Tottenham
A combination of Tottenham’s counterattacking prowess and Eintracht’s desperation to come away with a home win should see goals exchanged between two talented attacks.
Mario Gotze is out for Eintracht, but they still have enough firepower to cause issues for an uncharacteristically leaky Spurs backline (nine goals conceded in their last six matches on 7.2 xG). Despite the recent stats, Spurs are capable of locking things down defensively on their day, which is a reason ‘Both Teams To Score’ at -155 is less attractive. — Simon Borg
Yesterday’s picks
Kyle predicted the goals would be flowing in the bottom-of-the-table clash in the Premier League. But a surprise corner-kick header by Elche, who only had five total shots in the match at Rayo Vallecano, torpedoed his clean sheet pick.
A stoppage time Udinese winner (2-1) and a shot that rang the post by Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi in a 4-0 loss (Forest mustered 1.10 xG) ruined the day for Borg.

URUST GLOBAL Set Their Sight On Decentralised Metaverse Digital Journal
URUST GLOBAL Set Their Sight On Decentralised Metaverse – Digital Journal https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/urust-global-set-their-sight-on-decentralised-metaverse-digital-journal/
Vilnius, Lithuania, Oct 4, 2022, ZEXPRWIRE, Metaverse is undoubtedly becoming part of everyone’s future. While this is exciting, it does raise a philosophical question which is in whose hand that future will be? As our society values freedom above all else, it is necessary to keep the provisioning of Metaverse and its inclusion in the control of the people, as opposed to leaving it for a selected few Big Tech.
Fortunately, a Lithuania-based crypto startup named Urust Global knows the answer to this. Urust Global is the new player that recently joined the Web 3.0 landscape, and set out to leverage decentralization to tackle the afore-mentioned concern. They make a very strong vouch for the Decentralised Metaverse which is built atop the Decentralized Ledger Technology (DLT), and contest that it is the one and only Metaverse that will prevail.
The foremost and utmost holy grail of Urust Global is to bring forth the substratum for the Decentralized Metaverse. They focus on two key facets that are essential to all Metaverse interactions, which is Identity and Transaction.
Urust Global builds upon the Decentralised Identity mechanisms to provide each user with a consolidated ID which she can use to login to any Services and Apps in the Metaverse. More importantly, Urust Global provides a unified payment hub that handles both fiat and crypto currencies alike, regardless of its central-bank issuers nor its underlying chain. Their payment platform integrates Ripple Network, and thereby attains up to 300 times cheaper processing fee and 100,000 times faster processing time than conventional banks.
The platform is offering cross-chain swap service for crypto-currency live. This function supports swaps between cryptos belonging to the same chain via interfacing with the prominent AMMs, as well as atomic swaps between cryptos belonging to different chains. This is indeed very beneficial to DeFi users.
Their whitepaper and projected roadmap indicate they are working with Decentralized Identity Foundation, indicating they are on the forefront of the Web 3.0 landscape. It is also worth noting that they are planning to obtain Lithuania’s Electronic Money Institute license by 2024. If the team follows through with their plan, they will be a serious contender in the Web 3.0 and Metaverse realms.
We found the tokenomics of Urust Global rather straightforward, with a round of strategic offer (equivalent to private sale) followed by a fair launch. It seems that tokens offered to their strategic partners are subject to certain locking, to the tune of at least one-year. A more interesting bit is their attention paid towards the security issue. They already completed a proper audit prior to their offering, which is a good thing.

Bracing Up To Work In Tech – TechCabal https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/bracing-up-to-work-in-tech-techcabal/
The tech ecosystem has seen drastic patronage over the last decade. More and more people are transitioning into the industry in different capacities. While academic or educational backgrounds prepared some to work in tech, some had to evolve to fit into a new role in the booming tech industry.
Transitioning to work in tech comes with different experiences. Factors such as mode of working, freelance or full-time, and more may influence the kind of experience you get. Also, your level of expertise before getting into the system may affect your transitioning experience.
For this article, we spoke with five tech employees who were relatively new to the industry when they joined in their chosen capacities. They shared their experiences which will inform your decision and expectations.
Let’s get into it!
How does your background affect you working in tech?
There are several mental barriers people have created about working in tech. And one of the most prevalent is the notion that you must have at least an educational track record or background in the industry before getting into it. This stereotype is part of the reasons we recommend people to read about what qualifies as a tech job. You
Some even nurse notions that you must know how to code to work in tech. However, most of these things are misconceptions. Most times, to get started, you only need a nudge, couple with passion, effort, and peculiar soft skills . Our chat with Ogeroju Opeyemi, a software tester, gave more light on this.
Opeyemi was a shoemaker who also studied history at the University of Ibadan. But Opeyemi found herself in the tech world a couple of years after she graduated from the University in 2019. She said, “My then boyfriend shared me the link to Testify, and that was how the journey started. Today, I’m a software testing engineer and he’s now my husband.” She explained in her voice note how she was exposed to virtual training, got an internship position at a tech company, and today she’s a full-time software tester at Oze, a business app for managing and growing business and accessing capital.
We also spoke with Dare, a software developer at TechCabal. On his transition to tech, Dare said, “I didn’t study anything related to Computer Science; in fact, I studied Political Science which is nothing close or related to tech. I gained most of my current skill set by reading materials, watching YouTube tutorials, and taking software development courses bought on Udemy.”
On the other hand, Ngozi studied engineering and could have easily slotted into different coding or engineering tech jobs as a software engineer, developer, machine learning expert, and more. But she decided to be more adventurous.
Ngozi said regarding her transition to work in tech, “I had studied to be an Engineer and was going to get a master’s degree in Control Engineering because I thought engineering was the only way to solve important problems. I was great at math and physics, so teachers told me it would be a good fit. However, after spending years at the university, I realised that there are myriad problems worldwide and even more diverse ways to approach and solve these problems, including art, communication, and storytelling. I had a passion and a knack for those, so I decided to explore other career options.,” Today, Ngozi is one of the prolific writers at TechCabal, interested in technology, and using her writing and storytelling passion for reshaping Africa’s culture.
Mesioye Johnson, a young rooted voice in Nigeria’s literary scene, spoke to us about sidelining writing poetry and delving fully into tech intricacies as a freelance writer. Mesioye told us, “Moving from literature was like discovering a not-so-tapped horizon where you’d survive with its water.” In our discussion with him, he made it known it wasn’t easy, but with persistence, he’s become one of the foremost Nigerian tech writers flourishing on freelance platforms like Upwork and Fiverr.
We spoke to another person who preferred to remain anonymous. She graduated as a student of French from one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions.
She explained how the pandemic ushered her into several realisations, and one of such was her affinity for data science. For this article, we’ll name her Sisi.
Sisi explained taking advantage of the avalanche of free courses flying around during the lockdown. She specifically said, “I graduated with a degree in French, and believe me, I never liked anything calculations, or that’d make me stress my brain too much. But the pandemic period sent me into a sort of panic mode. I saw people taking courses, getting certifications, and so on. Meanwhile, I kept seeing juicy job opportunities available for people with skill sets that I didn’t have. The scare of losing relevance or not achieving anything with myself made me choose to delve into data science. And from fear, fright and apprehension, I found myself developing a deep affection for data science. Today, I work with one of the top tech companies abroad from Nigeria as a remote data scientist. I’m just grateful for my journey.”
These people exemplify that there’s almost no limitation in transitioning to work in tech. Regardless of your initial knowledge, discipline, background, or focus, you can find a role and flourish in it. There are coding, non-coding, and data-related jobs for you to select from.
Freelance or full-time work in tech
You can choose to work as a freelancer or full-time, regardless of your tech profession. However, both have their perks and glitches.
Ngozi was initially a freelance writer, but she decided to devote her expertise, full-time, to TechCabal. Having had a taste of both cherries, here’s what she has to say, “Before TechCabal, I used to be a freelance writer. My end goal was to get the work done. Working full-time is different in several ways: The end goal isn’t just to finish a task; my everyday tasks are a means to an end. I am part of a system now, and my roles are interconnected with others, so my tasks are just part of a bigger picture. I have to think about the company’s goals and ensure that the things I spend my time on are taking the team closer to our goal. As a freelancer, I didn’t feel so responsible for how things turned out in the end for my customers, but working with a company full-time, I have a greater sense of responsibility.” Ngozi added, “Now, I’m constantly looking for ways to increase my work’s impact or redefine it if I see that it is not moving the needle. The only downside is how much control I have lost over my time. Because of this new sense of responsibility, I find myself spending more time working or thinking about my work.”
Ngozi’s experience makes it seem like freelance is the way. But Mesioye, a full-time freelance tech writer, says, “Apart from the freelancing career as I’d love to put it, I run a writing agency, Mesileum, and I have a team of professional writers. So, that by default, is draining. Now let’s add factors like meeting deadlines, meeting schedules with C-suite executives etc. This list could be endless.”
Dare has a similar take to Mesioye’s despite working full-time. He says, “Working full-time in an active and accelerated environment like TechCabal means you’re pushing your works to the eyes of the public, which I think is most developers’ dream, i.e. to see people engage with whatever you’re creating in private. This commitment is, however, challenging because you’re held accountable for the performance of what you build, unlike when you are only building for yourself or freelancing for one-off clients.”
Ogeroju, on the other hand, works remotely, although full-time. She says the feeling of working full-time in tech is gratifying and has helped accelerate her growth in her role as a software tester.
Ogeroju says it can be very tasking sometimes, and you can get overwhelmed. But it helps, especially if you have entry-level experience transitioning to work in tech.
She continued, “From the internship at my former company, I’ve been on full time. That made it easy for me to ask questions from colleagues who had better backgrounds or were more experienced than I was at entry-level. Thankfully, most tech folks I have worked with and currently work with are chill and are always willing to help. So I was never in a completely lost position. Anytime I encountered a problem that seemed insurmountable, I reached out to my colleagues for help. And this may have been impossible if I were trying to freelance considering my level of expertise upon transition to work in tech.”
Numerous factors, such as the nature of your chosen tech profession or job, your clients or company, and your level of expertise upon transition, can affect your experience as a tech professional.
Also, unlike freelancers, full-time tech staff have access to medical insurance, company merch, work gadgets, wifi, and other added benefits. Freelancers may be able to charge variably as they please. However, full-time tech staff are restricted to a specific salary amount.
But while full-time tech staff have secure salary sources, freelance tech staff can only partially determine how frequently they’ll get gigs, influencing how they generate revenue.
You can choose either route to work in tech. Just ensure you weigh your options before you make a decision.
Will you have time for fun or other interests when you work in tech?
Balancing work and leisure is a prominent discourse in the tech scene, especially if you work full-time. Judging from the likely loads of work to be done, finding time to unwind and play can be a thing.

Why Crypto’s Big ‘merge’ Is Causing Big Headaches | Business – Gulf News – Gulf News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/why-cryptos-big-merge-is-causing-big-headaches-business-gulf-news-gulf-news/
Paris: The biggest software upgrade in the short history of crypto has fulfilled its promise to wipe out more than 99 percent of the electricity used by the second-biggest cryptocurrency, experts have told AFP.
That is no mean feat, given that the Ethereum blockchain was burning through about as much electricity as New Zealand.
Sceptics had expected glitches with the upgrade, known as “the merge”, but it ended up being a “rather boring event”, according to Alex de Vries of the Free University in Amsterdam.
De Vries, whose Digiconomist website models the energy use of Bitcoin and Ethereum, said consumption had indeed plummeted by more than 99 percent on Ethereum.
Moritz Platt, a researcher specialising in crypto at King’s College London, said the 99 percent estimates were realistic and heralded a positive step towards “cryptocurrency sustainability”.
Scrutiny from regulators
So the Ethereum blockchain, which supports billions of dollars of trading in games, tokens, art and the ether currency, has cleaned up its act. But there are complications.
Ethereum faces bitter opposition from those who lost out from the merge and it could also get greater scrutiny from regulators.
The old system, known as “proof of work”, relied on people and firms to “mine” new coins — an industry worth $22 million daily before the merge, according to de Vries.
The miners used vast power-guzzling computer rigs to compete with each other to solve complex equations, and the winner was awarded the prize of adding entries to the blockchain and generating coins.
Business model wiped out overnight
The merge wiped out their business model overnight.
“Those rigs do not magically turn back into invested capital,” said a crypto-miner known only as “J” who operates between Singapore and Hong Kong.
He said it was costing him between $30,000 and $40,000 a month to keep his staff and equipment idling while he thinks about his next move.
Plenty of miners have sold off their kit, while others are putting their rigs to work on less profitable blockchains that still use the old system.
A miner who uses the name Leon Ravencoin, for example, has been tweeting non-stop about the “astronomical” growth of Ravencoin, one of the currencies to get a boost after the merge.
The combined computing power used by these coins is around one-fifth of the pre-merge Ethereum blockchain.
However, de Vries said they generated only about $500,000 in daily revenue so only the most energy-efficient machines with the lowest energy costs would be able to make a profit.
As a result, one-fifth of the computing power would work out far less than one-fifth of the electricity use.
‘Designed to be centralised’
Aside from the problem with miners, the new system, known as “proof of stake”, has several issues baked in.
Anyone willing to stake a large amount of ether can now “validate” new entries on the blockchain.
The more you stake, the more chance you have of updating the chain and earning coins.
The system gives an advantage to the biggest players, and just three companies now account for more than half of “validators”, according to research by Dune Analytics.
Cryptocurrencies were envisaged as a decentralised alternative to the banks, corporations and governments that failed so spectacularly during the global crash of 2008.
But crypto-miner J said the new Ethereum was “designed to be more centralised” and suggested it no longer had a real purpose.
Regulators have also begun to pay attention, with US Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler suggesting proof-of-stake looked like a securities market that would fall under his remit.
The disaster scenario for Ethereum would be that enough disgruntled purists switch to one of the gas-guzzling proof-of-work alternatives, with Ethereum Classic being the main one.
“There is nothing capping Ethereum Classic prices,” said de Vries, meaning that miners could potentially make good profits if the market shifted their way.
A rush from the greener blockchain was “theoretically definitely possible”, he said.

Biden To Set New U.S. Guidelines On Reproductive Rights, 100 Days After Roe V Wade – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/biden-to-set-new-u-s-guidelines-on-reproductive-rights-100-days-after-roe-v-wade-reuters/
WASHINGTON, Oct 4 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden will announce new guidelines and grants to protect reproductive rights on Tuesday, and describe how abortion rights have been curtailed since the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to terminating pregnancies.
He will be speaking at a meeting of the reproductive rights task force, also to be attended by Vice President Kamala Harris, that is being held 100 days after the landmark Roe v. Wade judgment.
The meeting will focus on how millions of women cannot access abortion services and doctors and nurses are facing criminal penalties for providing such services, according to a White House official and a letter shared by the White House.

The letter to the president was from Jen Klein, the head of the inter-agency task force on abortion access.
At the meeting, the president will also speak about new guidelines for universities from the Department of Education to protect students from discrimination on the basis of pregnancy and $6 million in new grants to protect access to reproductive healthcare services from the Department of Health & Human Services.
The letter from Klein said abortion bans have gone into effect in more than one dozen states since the court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling on June 24. Nearly 30 million women of reproductive age now live in a state with a ban, including nearly 22 million women who cannot access abortion care after six weeks, it said.
The letter also notes efforts by Republican lawmakers such as Senator Lindsay Graham to issue a nationwide abortion ban.
Democrats are increasingly hopeful that the Supreme Court decision will boost voter support in November’s midterm elections.
A Pew Research Center poll in August showed abortion rocketing up as a priority for Democratic voters — from 46 percent in March to 71 percent.
