10 Ways To Capture The Post-Vacation Feeling At Home – Glam https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/10-ways-to-capture-the-post-vacation-feeling-at-home-glam/ Bangkok Click Studio/Shutterstock Vacations are important; they provide a mental reset to rejuvenate and reinvigorate you before you return to work. But according to Forbes, The Center for Economic and Policy Research has nicknamed the U.S. the “No Vacation Nation,” indicating that workers are neglecting to take the time off they not only earn but desperately need. Without vacations, you may end up feeling burned out and resentful of your career, school schedule, or other obligations.  According to Everyday Health, there is tons of evidence to support why we should prioritize taking time off. Vacations are directly linked to reduced stress, improved productivity, and better overall life satisfaction because they give people the chance to wholeheartedly relax before the pressures and constraints of the working world fall back on them. As beneficial as vacations are, sometimes there are barriers outside of our control that affect them. The COVID-19 pandemic, for example, severely impacted the travel industry as many people were forced to cancel their vacation plans (via Styl.Inc). Other times, not taking regular vacations simply comes down to money. If there isn’t enough extra cash in the budget to splurge on a trip, it just doesn’t feel like a realistic possibility. If these factors, or others, are keeping you from planning a vacation to your dream destination, know that there are brilliant ways you can recreate a post-vacation feeling at home.  Recreate a spa experience Lucigerma/Shutterstock Ready to spoil yourself? Recreating a full-on, relaxing spa experience is easy to do with the right supplies, and mud masks and cucumbers are only the beginning. According to Vistana Signature Experiences, the first thing you should do is choose a room for your home spa. Bathrooms tend to be ideal. Once your location is picked out, special touches can make the experience more relaxing: add bath bombs, Epson salt, and essential oil drops to the tub; flower petals, baking soda, and chamomile are perfect in your foot soak; and pre-packaged face masks add convenience. The perfect ambiance is key for a spa day at home (via Unpacked). Try dimming the lights and lighting candles or burning incense to fill your space with scents of vanilla, lavender, or coconut. The final touch is soft, gentle music — or nature sounds like birds chirping and raindrops — playing in the background. Create a playlist to enhance to calming vibe. Be sure to keep your journal or diary nearby for writing down your thoughts, feelings, and manifestations for the future. Recreate a beach day Studio Romantic/Shutterstock If you live in a landlocked state, recreating a beach experience at home might be just what you need. According to WebMD, there is a slew of health benefits that come from taking trips to the beach. It’s a refreshing place that opens up your senses, provides sun exposure, and naturally lifts your mood.  The first step in creating your at-home beach, according to BuzzFeed, is to play the sound of gentle waves crashing along the shoreline. Once you’re in the right headspace, try wearing a beach-inspired perfume. Fragrances with hints of palm leaf, coconut, and sea salt are good options. If you’re not into perfume, a few dollops of sunscreen will work also. After that, it’s time to start decorating. String together seashells and drape them over your banister and place dried starfish on your coffee table. Run your fingers through a sand-filled zen garden or squish your toes in a kids’ sandbox. Having the right foods and drinks will also help enhance the beach vibes. Hot dogs with all the trimmings are a great choice (via BuzzFeed) and fruity cocktails (or mocktails) are always fun –– especially when they have cute umbrella garnishes. Finally, if you have access to water, whether it’s in the neighborhood community pool or at the gym, enjoy some time there. Go camping in your own backyard Melissa Balthaser/Shutterstock As long as you have a backyard or patio space to work with, camping at home can make you feel like you’re far away on an adventurous vacation. Pitch a sturdy tent, line up some comfy sleeping bags, and prep your ingredients for making s’mores. If you have a safe place to do so, Country Living recommends lighting a fire pit. It will keep you warm and that campfire smell just adds to the experience. Hang some string lights for extra twinkle and once the sun sets, sing along to your favorite childhood songs and read about creepy ghosts on Reddit threads. After all, a camping trip isn’t complete without a few scary stories.  Adding activities like a scavenger hunt, cornhole, and catching fireflies to your to-do list for the night is great if you’ve got little ones in tow. The Washington Post says dressing up in your pajamas, keeping a portable lamp or flashlight close, and having a good book on deck to read are a few more ways you can truly enjoy a night of camping in your own backyard. Prioritize your sleep Olena Yakobchuk/Shutterstock When you’re on vacation, you have the freedom to get as much sleep as you could possibly want. If you’re really trying to capture the post-vacation feeling at home, prioritizing your sleep is a must. When you get deep sleep, you feel energized and ready to take on each new day. Of course, it might be hard to prioritize sleep when you finally have time to read chapters in your favorite book, scroll through your social media timelines, and binge-watch fun reality TV shows (via UNC Health Talk). Nevertheless, getting quality sleep is absolutely vital. According to Wired, prioritizing your sleep is hugely important because a lack of good sleep heavily impacts your mental and physical health. People who have abnormal sleep patterns are more susceptible to diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. If you’re not able to take time off work to go on an actual vacation, your best option would be to call it a night a little earlier than you usually would to give your body and brain a chance to rest. The earlier you fall asleep, the longer you’ll be able to rest before having to start your obligations the following morning. This means you’ll have to stop scrolling earlier than normal, even if there are a few TikTok trends that are really captivating your attention. Walk around your neighborhood Maria Markevich/Shutterstock Imagine for a moment that you’re in a foreign country with unfamiliar roadways. You’d most likely choose to walk as much as you can to take in the ambiance. You can do the same thing in your own neighborhood. Remind yourself of what it feels like to be a tourist exploring on foot by taking a one- or two-mile walk. Keep your eyes peeled to see if you notice amazing things you’ve never paid attention to before. You might run into a kind neighbor, have the opportunity to pet a friendly dog, smell fragrant roses in a garden, or even admire interesting homes and cars. There are health benefits linked to walking, as well. According to Mayo Clinic, going for walks helps you maintain a healthy weight, prevents various conditions, and improves cardiovascular fitness. If you’re not a huge fan of walks, think of it as a primer for your next vacation. Whether your next trip is to Europe, Disney World, or on a cruise ship, The Washington Post reports the best way you can prepare for it is to take walks that will build up some endurance. Cook cuisine from a different country Monster Ztudio/Shutterstock If you’re comfortable exploring international recipes, you can feel like you’re traveling around the world without even having to leave your kitchen (via Taste of Home). Have a location in mind that you would like to visit one day? Cook a traditional meal from that country. For example, if you’re interested in traveling to Italy, search for recipes for fresh, homemade pizza and delicious fettuccine alfredo. Cooking and eating these meals will make you feel like you’re there. You don’t have to be a bona fide foodie or food blogger to get excited about trying foods from other cultures. If you’re only willing to eat food from countries and cultures you’re familiar with, you’re limiting yourself from experiencing some of the most amazing delicacies available from around the world. After all, food is something that connects people from different places all around the globe (via Toast Fried).  Find a restorative practice 220 Selfmade studio/Shutterstock Going on vacation means you’re taking time out of your busy schedule to relax and unwind. If you’re stuck at home and unable to actually travel anywhere, restorative practices can put you in the right mind space. Meditation, yoga, and breathwork are only a small taste of restorative practices to consider.  According to Art of Living, meditation is beneficial because it leads to enthusiasm, inner joy, and peace. It brings your brain to an alpha state which promotes healing from the inside out. If you’re feeling weighed down by anxiety or you feel that you’re in need of some clarity, meditation is one of the best ways to solve those issues. Yoga helps improve strength, balance, and flexibility (via Johns Hopkins Medicine). When you practice yoga regularly, it relaxes you, helps you sleep better, and gives you more energy.  Breathwork is a holistic practice that’s been around for thousands of years, according to WebMD. It has an anti-inflammatory effect that quickly elevates your mood. Visit an unfamiliar local exhibit Zyabich/Shutterstock Local exhibits, museums, and art shows might open your mind to a feeling of curiosity and wonder. Travelers always have their eyes peeled to take in new, unexpected sites all around them. This is likely because when you’re on vacation and you’re in a new place, nothing looks familiar, which means everything feels exciting. Hill Aerospace Muse...

PCOS Awareness: Know How It Is Linked To Diabetes And Secondary Infertility Health Shots
PCOS Awareness: Know How It Is Linked To Diabetes And Secondary Infertility Health Shots
PCOS Awareness: Know How It Is Linked To Diabetes And Secondary Infertility – Health Shots https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/pcos-awareness-know-how-it-is-linked-to-diabetes-and-secondary-infertility-health-shots/ Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder among women of childbearing age. There are multiple side effects of PCOS. This disorder disturbs the body’s hormonal balance and results in irregular or extended menstrual cycles. PCOS causes follicles with immature eggs to form cysts which begin to grow inside the ovaries and not mature. The inability to develop mature eggs might interfere with ovulation and result in issues such as infertility. Causes and symptoms of PCOS PCOS is closely associated with insulin resistance and higher levels of the hormone testosterone. Numerous factors, including family history, insulin resistance, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, etc., have an impact on PCOS. PCOS may cause several problems such as fertility issues, infrequent or prolonged periods, weight gain, depression, excess body hair growth and acne, hair loss, hypertension and diabetes. With lifestyle changes and additional stressors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, India has seen a spike in PCOS cases in recent times. Obesity is a major driver of PCOS. Image courtesy: Shutterstock Relationship between PCOS and diabetes One in every sixth diabetic person over the world is an Indian. India is one of the top 10 countries with the most diabetics, with over 77 million individuals living with the disease. While diabetes is affecting people world over, it is becoming a greater challenge for women suffering from PCOS. Type 2 diabetes mellitus and PCOS have long been believed to be related. As per a research by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), one in four women suffer from PCOS and over one in 10 women between the age group of 35 to 49 suffer from diabetes. A woman with PCOS experiences endocrine system disruption and an increase in androgen, often known as male hormone. It is also believed that high quantities insulin are produced by the pancreas as a result of insulin resistance by the insulin receptors, causing PCOS. Thus, women who develop PCOS as young adults are more likely to develop diabetes and, possibly heart problems in later life. Women’s capacity to conceive is negatively impacted by both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, which are both characterized by irregular or non-existent menstruation (oligomenorrhea) and/or secondary amenorrhea. These issues are all closely related to obesity. Diabetes can also affect fertility in women by delaying the onset of menstruation (or menarche). This can lead to high sugar, causing rapid and early ovarian aging as evidenced by pre-mature menopause. Particularly in women of childbearing age, diabetes is linked to irregular menstrual cycles. Thus, diabetes can impact the biological clock and limit a female’s reproductive lifespan. PCOS affects menstrual cycle. Image courtesy: Shutterstock Relationship between PCOS and secondary infertility: In simple words, Secondary Infertility is the inability to become pregnant for a second time. Secondary infertility is a serious issue that happens more frequently to couples than one may think. Hormonal imbalances (whether too high or too low) can cause the brain-ovary relationship to be disrupted. The ovary doesn’t get the word that it’s intended to release an egg every month if the brain doesn’t provide the right signals. Some of these hormonal abnormalities may manifest themselves later in life. Thyroid, pituitary gland, or a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome are all examples of hormonal imbalances. Secondary (and main) infertility is frequently brought on by PCOS, which can interfere with ovulation. One should consult their doctor to determine whether they have PCOS when their periods are erratic or non-existent. Eat healthy, stay strong. Image courtesy: Shutterstock Prevention and care for PCOS To avoid the side effects of PCOS in the long run, women dealing with it should adopt healthy lifestyle habits. Regular exercise would aid in reducing insulin resistance in the body, fight obesity, and burn off extra sugar. For the body and mind to remain in good shape, a well-balanced nutritional diet rich in proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats, as well as lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, is essential. Getting enough sleep is essential for hormone regulation and stress reduction. Making such healthy lifestyle changes and choices can play key role in curbing hormonal imbalances in the body and reducing the risk of diabetes and or PCOS. It is also advised to consult your doctor for diagnosis and treatment plan, especially if one is planning to conceive a child.

No Quit In The Beavers | News, Sports, Jobs – Morning Journal News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/no-quit-in-the-beavers-news-sports-jobs-morning-journal-news/ Morning Journal/Westley Dorton Beaver Local’s Brock Severs goes up for a header above teammate Ben Miller and St. Clairsville’s Sean O’Grady (2) and Luke Swan on Thursday. CALCUTTA –Beaver Local’s boys soccer team landed in the OVAC Class 4A championship after downing St. Clairsville 3-0 on Thursday at Pastore Field. But the game did not go the distance. With 1:39 left, an emotionally-intense second half culminated with St. Clairsville, as a team, deciding not to continue the game against Beaver Local making the match a forfeit. At that point in the match, Red Devil Parker Galloway moved the ball out of the way of a sliding Brock Severs. Instead of hitting the ball, Severs’ cleat found the leg of Galloway. Play was stopped and paramedics came to assess the extent of the injury. The referee awarded a yellow card to Severs for the challenge and to St. Clairsville’s coach Jeff Roberts for his behavior following the play. “I felt like it was a completely reckless play,” Roberts said. “Especially with 1:39 seconds left –completely reckless, studs up –totally wiped out my player. I don’t know how it wasn’t a red card, but that’s not my call. I tried to plead that to the refs. A 3-0 lead with 1:39 left in the game, they took out our best player.” Beaver Local (5-3-2) advances to meet Weir High in the 4A title game at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium. Weir stunned top-seeded Indian Creek 2-1 on Tuesday in the other semifinal. With St. Clairsville (5-4-3) defeating Beaver Local 2-0 16 days ago, both teams had a pretty good read on what each other brought to the table. “We had to play our game tonight,” Beaver coach Joe Zirillo said. “We had to come out with more fire and more passion today and make sure we came out from the beginning whistle.” “We were just going to try to play small-ball,” coach Roberts said. “Play the way we normally play and connect on our passes.” Beaver Local was dominating most of the possession in the first half, but St. Clairsville managed to get a few promising counter-attacks in as well. “We wanted to go in strong,” Beaver Local’s Ben Miller said. “After coming down from the 2-0 loss to them, we came in with a stronger attitude. We were going to play to win, and I think we just wanted this more than they did.” Possession proved to be the key for the Beavers. Broc Taylor opened the scoring on a long set piece from Brock Severs with 30:16 left in the first half. With 16:32 left until halftime, Ethan Wood added to the Beaver lead with a tap-in after dribbling around a defender and the goalie. Going into the half, Zirillo had a clear message to the Beavers. “2-0 is the most dangerous score in soccer,” coach Zirillo said. “It’s not small enough that a team can easily come back from, but it’s not large enough to hold onto britches, so we wanted to keep up the intensity and make sure our midfielders stepped up on the ball.” “We spotted them a couple goals early,” coach Robers said. “They made a few chips over us that, I guess, confused the defense, but then it was pretty well contested after that. It just got out of control.” Also scoring for the Beavers in the semifinal win was Kaleb Mays. His penalty kick with 16:19 left in the game helped seal the win for the Beavers. In goal for the Beavers, John Mondak recorded four saves in the winning effort, while Red Devil Talen Rice accumulated 10 saves. As for the title tilt, Beaver Local played Weir to a 0-0 draw on Sept. 19 at Weir. “We played very well against Weir,” Miller said. “It was a tough game. We got a lot of shots off. I think that if we can put away a few of those shots, then we’ll have a good chance to win.” Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

CEO Exodus: Leaders Step Down As Crypto Firms Feel The Pinch BeInCrypto

CEO Exodus: Leaders Step Down As Crypto Firms Feel The Pinch – BeInCrypto https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ceo-exodus-leaders-step-down-as-crypto-firms-feel-the-pinch-beincrypto/ CEO exodus: A number of crypto CEOs stepped down from their roles in recent weeks. This has prompted companies to look for new talent elsewhere, or from within. The bear market and an economic recession seems well underway. At least six CEOs have left their jobs since August. These include Michael Moro of Genesis Trading, Sam Trabucco of digital asset trading firm Alameda Research, Jesse Powell of crypto exchange Kraken, Alex Mashinsky of brankrupt Celsius Network, and Brett Harrison, president of FTX U.S. Perhaps the most notable resignation was that of MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor, a staunch Bitcoin advocate. The news came as the firm reported a second-quarter loss of $1.06 billion. This is largely due to an impairment charge of $917 million based on the value of its BTC holdings. CEO exodus: Leaving the jobs they love All CEOs gave different reasons for quitting the jobs they once loved, positions they held for many years. Mashinsky regrets running the company into the ground, cratering the firm’s balance sheet to the tune of $1.2 billion. As CEO, he’s become a “distraction,” he says. Trabucco was stressed out, “needed to relax and prioritize other things.” As for Powell, he did not see the “fun” in running an outsized company he co-founded eleven years ago. “It’s just gotten to be more draining on me,” he moaned. Moro paid the price for Genesis’ $2.4 billion exposure to Three Arrows Capital (3AC), the failed crypto hedge fund. Together with Celsius and Voyager Digital, it became one of the biggest casualties of the credit contagion from TerraUSD’s $40 billion collapse in May. Harrison never quite explained the reasons behind his unexpected departure after just over a year at the helm. Except to praise himself for growing FTX U.S. employees from three to 100, “working together to build a nascent crypto exchange into a multi-business enterprise.” Changing market conditions Whatever their reasons, the high-profile CEO turnover shows that market conditions in crypto are changing, according to analysts. Profits have tanked and cashflows are thin due to the 2022 bear market. It is a downturn like never before, marked by war, high inflation and fugitive founders. Both the resignation of Genesis’ Moro and Celsius’ Mashinsky are a result of decisions made in the past, at peak bull market hype. The reassignment of Saylor to executive chairman has been thought of in this way, too. The new CEO will refocus on MicroStrategy’s core business of mobile software. The company’s shift away from Bitcoin has been seen by some as an admission of regret over the company’s past involvement with the cryptocurrency. “While the bear market can be the root cause, directors such as Mashinsky left as a result of cascading bankruptcies, lawsuits, and outright violations of financial laws,” Alex Malkov, co-counder of Islamic Coin, told Be[In]Crypto. “The close attention of financial watchdogs, as well as legislative activity, make many top managers reevaluate their actions. The bearish trend has also cut salary privileges customary for large crypto companies in recent times.” CEO exodus and regulation Governments began to tighten crypto regulation after the spectacular collapse of the Terra blockchain in May. It has become clear that the industry is entering a new phase, one that involves direct intervention from regulators. Decentralization is a key tenet of the crypto industry. For platforms like Kraken, prioritizing decentralization means challenging existing regulatory frameworks that entrench power in central authorities like governments. Jesse Powell, a Bitcoin fundamentalist who champions the ethos of privacy and individual freedom, may have resigned on this account, worried about bending to regulatory demands. He told Fortune that he wanted to spend “more time on stuff…like working on product and industry advocacy.” The founder refused to block Russian-linked accounts unless compelled by the law to do so. Brett Harrison, the former FTX U.S. president, summed up the regulatory dilemma. He stated in his resignation notice that the crypto industry was at “a number of crossroads.” But he was more concerned about the arrival of what he called “larger market participants.” The Great Resignation Vadim Keff, a crypto analyst and co-founder of blockchain firm T7T Labs, believes there are several ways to look at the CEO turnover. But he does not think “we should imply” any significant meaning to recent events. “I think that most crypto CEO departures are linked to ‘The Great Resignation’ trend and not to anything crypto specific,” Keff told Be[In]Crypto. He was referring to a wave of resignations by employees during the pandemic, that became known as “The Great Resignation.” Keff pulled a report by accounting firm Deloitte to support his theory. The report showed that around “70% of company leaders in any industry are seriously considering quitting for a job that better supports their well-being.” “As the crypto market is rapidly growing, crypto CEOs will have a tough job to do in leading their companies. It is natural that some CEOs would prefer to step aside especially if they have already been in the managing role for many years,” he added. Where to next? Harrison will continue to work in the industry to remove “technological barriers to full participation in and maturation of global crypto markets.” Sam Trabucco will be spending more time his family and Powell will stay on as Kraken board chair. U.S. House Approves Merger Antitrust Bill Giving States More Muscle – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-house-approves-merger-antitrust-bill-giving-states-more-muscle-reuters/ WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a bill that would sharply raise fees for antitrust reviews of the biggest mergers and strengthen state attorneys general in antitrust fights. The bipartisan bill, which has yet to pass the U.S. Senate, combines a merger fee bill introduced by Representative Joe Neguse, a Democrat, and a measure to mandate that state attorneys general can pick the venue for antitrust lawsuits, which was introduced by Representative Ken Buck, a Republican. The bill, which passed the House 242-184, is one of several measures under consideration that would strengthen antitrust enforcers to rein in Big Tech. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com One bill would bar Big Tech companies like Alphabet’s Google and Amazon.com from preferencing their own products on platforms while another addresses Apple’s (AAPL.O) and Google’s clout in their app stores. Hopes are dimming that they will become law this year. The legislation the House approved on Thursday would lower fees paid for antitrust reviews of smaller deals to as little as $30,000. Bigger deals would be more expensive. Deals worth $5 billion or more would pay $2.25 million for their review. A previous version of the filing fee bill had included budget increases for the U.S. Justice Department’s Antitrust Division and the Federal Trade Commission, but those have been removed, according to a congressional aide. The U.S. Senate has passed a bill giving state attorneys general the right to pick the venue for antitrust fights but has not passed a measure to update merger filing fees. Texas, along with other states, brought an antitrust action against Alphabet Inc’s Google in 2020 that the search and advertising giant succeeded in moving from Texas to a New York court, angering conservatives. In the Senate, the House bill has attracted public support from Republicans Mike Lee, Chuck Grassley and Tom Cotton as well as Democrats Amy Klobuchar and Dick Durbin. It is not immediately known when or if the Senate will vote on the bill. Opposition to the bill included Representative Zoe Lofgren, a California Democrat, who joined with at least four other Democrats from the home state of Silicon Valley, urging that the bill be defeated because of the venue measure. California is home to some of the biggest tech companies, including Google and Meta Platforms’ (META.O) Facebook. Uzodimma also urged all Imo residents, in the 27 councils, to avail themselves to be counted during the exercise. He made the calls, yesterday, during the flag-off of stakeholders’ summit on the 2023 Population and Housing Census, held in Owerri. The governor, who said that, so far, he is satisfied by efforts of the NPC, noted that the summit was “relevant to the realisation of our future plans as a government and as a people.” While noting that the headcount should not be a mere exercise in futility, Uzodimma said: “National Census is not just a mere collection of data, number of people and houses, it includes the collection of demographic, social and economic data, which government uses to formulate economic policies. “The data generated serve as useful guide in the distribution of social amenities and infrastructural projects. “In other words, population census is at the heart of planning for the future by government, based on figure obtained during the census exercise.” Uzodimma stressed that a well-conducted headcount would help government, at all levels, plan, saying: “A properly conducted population census, therefore, saves government from planning blindly.” IN another development, the governor has appealed to striking university teachers in the country, under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to call off their strike to allow students go back to school for academic activities. Uzodimma made the plea on Wednesday when 17 members of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), led by the Pro-Chancellor/ Chairman of the Governing Council, Jack Tilley-Gyado, visited him at the Government House, Owerri. He, particularly, appealed to the FUTO chapter of ASUU to make necessary sacrifices for the existence of tertiary education, saying: “Allow students studying in the university to go back to school. Education is key ingredient for national development. So, it is the responsibility of leaders in the country to resolve issues and controversies that tend to impede academic progress of youths. “What the leaders of Nigeria owe our future generation is to ensure that they are given the opportunity to acquire knowledge and be better citizens in future.”

Two Area Schools With A Prestigious Award By U.S. Department Of Education – WCNC.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/two-area-schools-with-a-prestigious-award-by-u-s-department-of-education-wcnc-com/ It’s a distinction only 297 schools nationwide are awarded by the Department of Education. FORT MILL, S.C. — Elementary schools in both Fort Mill, SC and Gaston County, NC received the nation’s more prestigious academic honor.  It’s a distinction only 297 schools nationwide are awarded by the Department of Education. “Educators do what we do, because we love kids, and we love teaching. At the same time, it is, an honor to receive this type of recognition,” Josh Burris, Gold Hill Elementary’s Principal said.  A Blue Ribbon Award is to a school what an Olympic Gold Metal is to an athlete.  It’s a memorialized honor recognizing a school with exemplary achievement.  What sets Blue Ribbon Schools apart from others is their above-average performance rates on test scores and graduation rates nationwide.  The Department of Education says to qualify for the award schools must at a minimum meet performance.  The criteria include:  Top 15%  in the state in Reading and English Language Arts, and Math scores.  Top 40% in the state for subgroups in Reading and English Language Arts, and Math scores. Subgroups include demographics like Black, Hispanic, English Language learners, and students with disabilities.  Top 15% in the state for high school graduation rates and college and career readiness.  Blue Ribbon Schools have also demonstrated an ability to significantly close achievement gaps. “Success and results are only born out of a strong school culture,” Burris said. “And so when we have, and for us, that’s rooted in relationships, and collaboration and working together.”  Blue Ribbon Schools are looked at nationwide as a model for effective school practices to increase student achievement. “This award is about people,” Darryl Prendergast, Gold Hill Elementary’s Lead Teacher said. “It’s the people in this building that come to work every day, despite the last two years and everything we’ve been to. They keep showing up for the students.” It’s an honor to win the award once but twice is rare. Gold Hill Elementary has one the award once in 2007. Schools are only eligible to win the award every 5 years.  W.A. Bess Elementary is also apart of the elite class of two-time Blue Ribbon School winners. The school won in 2006.  “It’s, not just one thing that makes us a Blue Ribbon School, it’s a community is parent support, because, without them, our children could not get the support they have at home,” Laura Clark, W.A. Bess Elementary’s Principal said. It’s also the teachers who bring art, smiles, and diversity everywhere you step into elementary school.  “There are always teachers here early in the morning before they have to be here. And late in the afternoon,” Jennifer Crooks, a W.A. Bess Elementary Teacher said. “Teachers are contacting their peers on the phone when they’re going to target to pick something up for the classroom.”  In a few months, both schools can add another plaque to their trophy case.  Contact Shamarria Morrison at smorrison@wcnc.com and follow her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

National Walk Roll To School Day Set For Oct. 5 Tahlequah Daily Press
National Walk, Roll To School Day Set For Oct. 5 – Tahlequah Daily Press https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/national-walk-roll-to-school-day-set-for-oct-5-tahlequah-daily-press/ Shape Your Future, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust, and the Active Living and Transportation Committee of Cherokee County are promoting healthy habits and encouraging physical activity by inviting students, families, and communities to walk and roll to school on Oct. 5. Cherokee County’s Walk and Roll to School Day events include Cherokee Elementary, Greenwood Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Hulbert Public Schools, and – new this year – Briggs Public School. Each school site will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the designated locations and begin walking shortly after. Each eligible student at the different school sites, will be sent home with a flyer that includes a map of the drop-off locations and walking routes. “Starting healthy habits early can help children grow into healthy adults, continuing those habits as they get older,” said Julie Bisbee, executive director of TSET. “Active transportation such as walking, biking or even riding a scooter to school is a simple and easy way for children to add physical activity into their daily lives.” National Walk and Roll to School Day provides kids, and the adults accompanying them, the opportunity to improve brain health, strengthen bones and muscles, and have fun with friends. The occasion is also a great way to work toward achieving the 60 minutes a day of physical activity for children recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. “Adding a bit of adventure to a child’s daily routine, like walking or rolling to school, can help children connect positive feelings with physical activity,” said Lindsey Durant, TSET Healthy Living Program assistant coordinator serving Cherokee County. “Walking to school can be fun and teach kids that healthy living doesn’t have to be boring or hard. Research shows that when children aged 6 to 13 are physically active, it can immediately improve brain function and, over time, help with learning, judgment and better sleep.” Not only does Walk and Roll to School Day benefit students, but it also positively impacts the community. Since the event began in 1997, the program has kicked off improvements like long-term walking and rolling programs, new sidewalks, and policy changes at schools and in communities. That is because the event offers public officials the opportunity to see and address challenges to active transportation in the community and lowers the amount of morning traffic. The Active Living and Transportation Committee is comprised of partners including the City of Tahlequah, NIWHRC, Cherokee Nation Public Health, Tahlequah BEST, Cherokee County Health Department, OSU Extension, CCHSC, RCORP, TSET Healthy Living Program Serving Cherokee County, and Tahlequah Public Schools. Some Shape Your Future’s tips for a safe Walk and Roll Day include walking with the child; planning a route; teaching the children to stay away from vehicles; looking left-right-left when crossing the street; telling kids to never talk to strangers; and to wear bright colored clothing to increase visibility. Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa Taken Off On Stretcher During Thursday Night Matchup With Bengals After Sack – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/dolphins-tua-tagovailoa-taken-off-on-stretcher-during-thursday-night-matchup-with-bengals-after-sack-cbs-sports/ Katie Stratman / USA TODAY Sports Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa came into Thursday night’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals questionable to play with back and ankle injuries, but he did suit up. Late in the second quarter, however, he was taken off the field on a stretcher after taking a violent sack.  On second-and-7, Tagovailoa was sacked by Bengals defensive lineman Josh Tupou for a loss of 10 yards. Tagovailoa went down on his already-injured back, and appeared to hit his head as well. It was a frightening scene, as Tagovailoa raised his hands with what was described by the Amazon broadcast as a neurological response to head trauma. He remained on the turf for several minutes before ultimately being loaded on a stretcher and taken off the field. Teddy Bridgewater replaced Tagovailoa under center. The Dolphins quickly ruled Tagovailoa out with what they classified as head and neck injuries. The team also said he was conscious and had movement in all his extremities. Per Amazon’s broadcast, Tagovailoa was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. NFL Media reported Tagovailoa was transported there via ambulance. Many hypothesized Tagovailoa suffered a concussion last week against the Buffalo Bills after taking a hard sack from linebacker Matt Milano. Miami’s QB was stumbling on the field after the hit, causing many to believe he had suffered a head injury. He exited and returned to the game, however, and finished out the 21-19 win. The NFLPA said afterward it would review whether the Dolphins followed the concussion protocol, but the team has maintained it was a back issue. Tagovailoa completed 8 of 14 passes for 110 yards and one interception on Thursday night before exiting the game.  Tagovailoa entered this matchup second in the NFL with 925 passing yards, and tied for third in passing touchdowns with eight.

Tim Drake’s Newest Upgrades Comes From His Worst Suit – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tim-drakes-newest-upgrades-comes-from-his-worst-suit-cbr-comic-book-resources/ The following article contains spoilers from Tim Drake: Robin #1, on sale now. Tim Drake’s new solo series has introduced not only a new part of Gotham City to be explored, but also given Tim some pretty cool upgrades. Tim Drake: Robin #1 (by Meghan Fitzmartin, Riley Rossmo, Lee Loughridge, and Tom Napolitano) saw its titular hero unveil a new feature in his costume. When he needed to move quickly and scan an area, Tim jumped off a building, activating a flight function in his cape that allowed him to fly. While this may be a new function for his current costume, it actually isn’t the first time he’s employed such tech. This kind of functionality comes from what many fans will argue is the worst costume Tim ever wore during the New 52. With this added feature though, Tim reclaims what is arguably the most useful tool he’s ever had, and incorporated it in such a way that it avoids the criticism fans had about his New 52 look. Now, in Tim’s defense, the New 52 came with a whole range of changes for multiple characters, many of them relating to their classic costumes. More than a few fans were upset about the loss of Superman and Batman’s classic trunks. That being said, Tim drake’s costume when he was operating under the Red Robin moniker got an incredible amount of backlash from fans. It was so disliked in fact that even in comics the other members of the Bat-Family still occasionally make fun of Tim for it. In all honesty, the costume wasn’t the worst he’s ever worn, but many fans were disappointed by the loss of the original Red Robin costume. Tim dropped the cowl, suddenly wore two belts across his chest, and his cape was replaced with one that was meant to act as bird wings, separating when he needed to take flight. While it might not be his most popular costume, the wings were easily the best gadget he’s ever used, having a variety of purposes. Now, it seems that he’s reclaimed that part of his past. His current cape still looks like a classic Robin cape, but it can now take on a wing-like function without going too overboard in the design. Now that this feature is a part of his arsenal again, Tim doesn’t have to worry about swinging through Gotham or chasing people over rooftops, He can instead just quickly fly above the streets, avoiding traffic and obstacles altogether. He’s already made excellent use of it when his new enemy once against struck with a spectral animal, looking for the source of the construct overhead instead of wasting time searching on foot. Looking closer now, Tim’s new wings are oddly suited towards his new neighborhood. The marina of Gotham is filled with open space, and if he’s going to patrol here he’ll probably have to pursue or sneak onto more than one boat. Having wings to glide across the water isn’t just a smart decision, it is a necessary one.

Will Rate Hikes Spell More Trouble For Crypto Markets?s – Business Standard https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/will-rate-hikes-spell-more-trouble-for-crypto-marketss-business-standard/ Global recession fears, stronger dollar, higher interest rates and spike in bond yields, are building pressure over the crypto markets. Since crypto markets move in tandem with global equity markets, the ongoing volatility in the US markets have cast a shadow on crypto-currencies as well. All the three major indexes in the US markets like Dow Jones, NASDAQ Composite, and the S&P 500 have shed in the range of 19 per cent to 30 per cent so far this year. Therefore, the promise of more rate hikes proclaimed by the US Fed till 2023 is likely to keep crypto markets volatile too. According to coinmarketcap.com, the global market capitalisation of crypto assets has tumbled over 57 per cent to 935 billion dollars, so far this year. Popular crypto asset Bitcoin, for instance, has tanked nearly 60 per cent so far in 2022. Other assets like Ethereum, BNB, Solana, Dogecoin and Polkadot have declined in the range of 46 per cent to 81 per cent, during the same period. Analysts believe that the reduced risk appetite among investors compelled them to shift to less riskier assets like bonds. Going ahead, they expect the volatility in crypto markets to continue in the near-term. Minal Thukral, Executive Vice-President, Growth and Strategy, CoinDCX, says equity selling pressure to cast a shadow. Crypto markets continue to be sideways. Ethereum, Bitcoin are deflationary assets. On the other hand, Devangshu Datta, independent market expert, says that the lack of any fundamental benchmark makes crypto assets a riskier bet to hold for the long-term horizon. Devangshu Datta, Independent Market Expert, says Bitcoin’s decline up to 99% possible. No fundamental benchmark for crypto. Crypto assets not a safe bet for long-term. Meanwhile, technical charts suggest a ‘death cross’ pattern for bitcoin, which signals a bearish market ahead. As regards today, investors will closely track the Reserve Bank of India’s interest rate stance post the 3-day monetary policy committee meeting. According to experts, the central bank is likely to raise interest rates up to 50 basis points. FII flows, rupee movement and crude oil prices, will also be on investors’ radar.

S.Korea, U.S., Japan To Stage Anti-Submarine Drills Amid N.Korea Tension – Reuters https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/s-korea-u-s-japan-to-stage-anti-submarine-drills-amid-n-korea-tension-reuters/ SEOUL, Sept 30 (Reuters) – The naval forces of South Korea, the United States and Japan will stage their major trilateral anti-submarine exercises for the first time in five years on Friday, amid tension over North Korea’s recent series of missile tests. The drills will be held in international waters off the Korean peninsula’s east coast, just a day after North Korea fired two ballistic missiles toward its east coast and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris visited Seoul and the heavily fortified border between the two Koreas. “The exercises are designed to improve their capability to respond to increasing North Korean submarine threats, including its submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM) at a time when it consistently poses nuclear and missile threats with a series of ballistic missile tests,” the South Korean navy said in a statement. Under the programme, the three countries’ navies will track down a mock North Korean submarine while exchanging information with each other, a South Korean military official said. The exercises will bring together the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier, the 9,800-ton guided missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville, the 6,900-ton Aegis-equipped destroyer USS Barry, South Korea’s 4,400-ton destroyer Munmu the Great and Japan’s 5,100-ton tanker Asahi, among other warships, the South Korean navy said. The drills came days after a U.S.-based think tank said North Korea may be preparing to launch a new submarine believed to be capable of firing ballistic missiles, citing commercial satellite imagery. South Korea’s military has also detected signs that the isolated country might be gearing up for an SLBM test, Yonhap news agency reported on Saturday. Tulsa State Fair Security Using New Technology To Keep Attendees Safe – News9.com KWTV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tulsa-state-fair-security-using-new-technology-to-keep-attendees-safe-news9-com-kwtv/ Thursday, September 29th 2022, 9:35 pm TULSA, Okla. – It’s the first day of the Tulsa State Fair and dozens of Tulsa County Deputies and Tulsa Police are patrolling the fairgrounds and surrounding areas; this comes after they spent time training on property last week. There are 26 deputies assigned to the fair and they bring in an additional 15 weekday evenings; on the weekends, an additional 30 deputies come out to help at the fairgrounds. Many of them do this event year in and year out. “We have our school resource officers, we have our intelligence deputy providing us with anything that’s going on in the schools or out in the communities that may have done sort of effect of the fair,” said Capt. Mike Moore. Deputies expect more than a million people to attend the fair this year. In the evenings, their main focus is patrolling the Midway, where all the rides, games and entertainment are. Capt. Mike Moore said the forecast is probably the best we’ve had in a decade and believes that’ll attract even more people. You can barely turn a corner without seeing a Tulsa County Deputy. “Manpower. We will have a good number of deputies out here, so the goal is when you’re walking and you make it 30, 40, 50 feet you want to be able to see us because we’re just constantly moving, walking visiting with people, answering questions,” said a Tulsa Co. Deputy. “Looking for you know suspicious behavior; people grouping up; people carrying bags and even how they hold themselves and certain mannerisms if they have something on them that they’re not supposed to have on them. Weapons for instance. Unless you’re trained to carry a weapon for a living most people can’t do it very subtly,” said Capt. Mike Moore. “New and interesting people out here but I haven’t seen any rascals running around,” said Ken Harris. “Super clean. There’s lots of staff. I mean it doesn’t feel unsafe,” said Kristie Bradley. “I still wouldn’t send my kids out.” They’ve got hundreds to keep an eye on everyone. “We’re utilizing every single camera the expo has installed. Over 300 cameras. Then we’ve placed some camera pods, the sheriff’s office has, in and around some of our more heavily trafficked areas,” said Capt. Moore. “We can program you know 5’7”, wearing a red shirt and the AI technology will start picking out every single child or person matching that description so we can hopefully quickly identify and reunite them with their families.” The sheriff’s office is also using technology to pinpoint calls and plot incidents. “We’re doing a pilot project with AT&T RapidSOS and CRG Mapping. AT&T FirstNet is providing the Network obviously for cameras and some of the other pieces but then they’ve also provided us a cash of cellular devices that are for first responders. And then RapidSOS is obviously the 911 piece and they plot calls before we actually answer the telephone and provide us critical data and pin point accuracy and mapping and the CRG mapping has provided a fair map for us and we’re able to plot incidents and provide gridded location data with real time access. And then all of those devices are being tracked so I know what responder is the closest to the incident that’s plotted in a gridded map. So, for instance, if we had an incident at K6 I could see and go to a camera pod that’s plotted to try and zoom in, in real time and then see which responder is out in the field and closest to that incident as well,” said Ken Stewart, TCSO 911 Communications Director. Deputies also remind everyone you are not allowed to bring your guns to the fair. “This is according to Oklahoma state law that during the Tulsa state fair the Tulsa county fairgrounds is a gun free zone; that means no open carry. No concealed carry. Leave your gun at home. Don’t bring your gun and leave it in the car,” said Capt. Moore. Capt. Moore said it’s important for fairgoers to do their part and watch out for themselves and others. He said it’s best to leave important things at home and remember to lock your car doors.

Jim Hartman: Laxalt V. Cortez Masto — And Senate Control – Elko Daily Free Press https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/jim-hartman-laxalt-v-cortez-masto-and-senate-control-elko-daily-free-press/ JIM HARTMAN The Senate race in Nevada will likely determine which party controls the U.S. Senate. Senate control is expected to come down to three races: Georgia, Pennsylvania and Nevada. The party that wins two of those three is positioned to hold a narrow 51-seat Senate majority. Republican Senate nominee Adam Laxalt is the grandson of the late conservative Nevada Republican icon, genial Paul Laxalt, who served as Lt. Governor (1963-67), Governor (1967-71), and U.S. Senator (1974-1987). Paul Laxalt was Ronald Reagan’s closest political ally beginning after Reagan’s election as neighboring California governor in 1967. In Washington, Senator Laxalt was dubbed President Reagan’s “First Friend” and served as General Chairman of the Republican Party (1983-87). Adam Laxalt’s father was New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici who had an extramarital affair with Adam’s 24-year-old mother Michelle Laxalt. Michelle raised Adam on her own, with the identity of Adam’s father kept secret until 2013. Born in Reno, Adam grew up in and around Washington, D.C. where his mother worked. Adam Laxalt graduated from Georgetown Law School and worked for then-Undersecretary of State John Bolton. He spent five years in the U.S. Navy’s J.A.G. Corps including in Iraq and a stint at the U.S. Naval Academy as an assistant law professor. Shortly after moving to Nevada, Laxalt left his law firm in 2014 to run for state attorney general. He was narrowly (less than 1%) elected in a statewide Republican “Red Wave.” As Nevada’s attorney general, Laxalt sued the Obama administration over immigration enforcement, land management and labor rules. In 2018, Laxalt ran for governor, losing to then-Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak by 40,000 votes (4%). Outgoing two-term GOP Governor Brian Sandoval spurned Laxalt, declining to endorse him in the governor’s race, largely because Laxalt called for repeal of the Commerce Tax, funding education initiatives championed by Sandoval. In 2016, Laxalt endorsed Texas Senator Ted Cruz for president in the Nevada primary, but backed Donald Trump after his nomination was secured. President Trump campaigned in Nevada (Elko) for Laxalt’s gubernatorial campaign in 2018. In 2019, Laxalt was named Nevada co-chair of Trump’s re-election campaign. After the 2020 election, Laxalt initiated lawsuits, did interviews and wrote opinion pieces claiming “thousands of illegal votes” had been cast in Nevada. None of these claims were proven in Nevada courts. Biden won by 33,596 votes (2.4%). The Democratic nominee, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, was elected in 2016 defeating Republican Rep. Joe Heck by 27,000 votes (2.4%). Heck carried 16 of Nevada’s 17 counties, losing only in Clark County. Cortez Masto became the first Nevada woman and first Latina ever to serve in the Senate. Cortez Masto is a protégé of the late Senator Harry Reid and was his handpicked replacement upon his Senate retirement in 2016. She relied on his vaunted “Reid Machine” to power election turnout of Democrats. Senator Cortez Masto is the daughter of the late Manny Cortez, a political figure in southern Nevada and close associate of Reid. First elected to the Clark County Commission in 1976, Manny Cortez served four terms through 1992. He later was the longtime head of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). Born In Las Vegas, Catherine Cortez Masto graduated from Gonzaga Law School and worked four years as a civil attorney in Las Vegas and two years as a criminal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. before being elected Nevada attorney general in 2006. Cortez Masto was criticized in 2009 for partisan prosecutorial misconduct in the case of Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki on charges ultimately dropped. She was re-elected in 2010. Cortez Masto’s Senate record has been as a loyal supporter of President Joe Biden. Laxalt’s most compelling political case — he would be the 51st seat check on a radical far-left agenda from Democrats by preventing their control of the Senate. Why Buying Property In These International Vacation Destinations Could Be A Great Investment – Nasdaq https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/why-buying-property-in-these-international-vacation-destinations-could-be-a-great-investment-nasdaq/ Published Sep 29, 2022 07:00PM EDT Real estate can be a great way to generate both long-term equity and short-term rental income. If you’re willing to extend your reach a bit on the risk/reward spectrum, buying a property in an international destination can potentially bring even greater rewards. Explore: Your Biggest Money Etiquette Questions Answered Consider: Should You Still Buy a Home in Today’s Market? You’ll have to contend with additional risk factors — from currency fluctuations and governmental regulations to the distance and unfamiliarity of investing in a foreign land — but there can be sizable benefits to doing so. For example, you can often purchase properties overseas with similar or even better amenities than you can find in the United States at a far lower price point. You may also find that you enjoy the thrill of owning rental properties in exotic destinations around the globe. With home prices in America starting to fall as mortgage interest rates skyrocket, now may be the perfect time to start looking overseas rather than in your own backyard if you’re shopping for real estate. Here are a few culturally exciting destinations that offer beautiful vistas and resort crowds that may help push up your home value and/or rental income in years to come. Philippines The Philippines has been popping up on the radar of international travelers more frequently as of late, as the country is blessed with beautiful beaches that consistently rank among the best in the world. Boracay has long been a favorite of jet-setters, but secluded Palawan is often touted as being even more beautiful, while Bohol offers some of the best diving in the world and Siargao is a mecca for the international surf community. If you prefer city living, Cebu City hosts a number of important cultural sites and is the festive heart of the country, while up-and-coming Davao City sits beneath the path of the typhoons that plague the country and boasts its own range of beautiful beaches and culinary delights. Luxury homes on pristine beaches in these destinations can top $1 million, but others with international-quality builds in great locations — including the beach — can go for just $100,000 to $200,000, making for perfect rental options. Take Our Poll: Are You Struggling To Keep Up With Your Utility Bills? Belize Beautiful Belize is a great option for American investors looking to make an overseas purchase. The U.S. dollar is widely accepted in the country, and as it was a former British colony, its laws and customs are quite accessible to the average American. Laws regarding foreign property investment are generous, as both locals and foreigners are treated the same. The country is well-known for its beaches, rainforests and jungles, but prices remain a bargain compared with most of the world, particularly the U.S. A brand-new, luxury 2-bedroom beachfront home in world-renowned Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island, runs just $600,000, while older but much larger homes can be had for hundreds of thousands less. Italy Numerous small towns in Italy have made news recently for offering run-down properties to international buyers for as little as a single euro. The catch is that you must promise to rehabilitate the properties — often at a cost of 20,000 to 40,000 euros — and restore it to its former glory. This type of property requires a special type of investor but for the right one, it can turn into a long-term gold mine. The towns where these properties are available may not be as glamorous as Florence or Rome, but they have a quiet-country charm that could make for both a great family getaway pad or a nice long-term rental for Italian locals.  Panama If you’re looking for a property investment that’s only a few short hours’ plane flight from America, Panama should be on your radar. Panama uses the U.S. dollar, making it an easy place for American expats and tourists to get their arms around, and it’s hemmed in on all sides by oceans and protected land, meaning there’s no room to build endless developments. Coupled with the government’s favorable policies toward foreigners and businesses, Panama has a lot to offer from the investment side of things — and that’s not even taking into account its beautiful beaches, idyllic views and sizable expat community. Panama is a safe and stable country in Central America that actually ranks as a “high-income nation” according to the World Bank, something most Americans are unlikely to know. Rentals near the beach can generate $1,000 to $2,000 per month in income and potentially even more, while the cost of large homes near the beach can run $200,000 to $800,000 and up. Portugal Portugal has been the up-and-coming star of international travel magazines for years now, and with good reason. Between the pleasant climate, excellent food and wine, and breathtaking scenery and beaches, the country seems to have it all. Yet, it often flies under the radar of tourists heading straight for Paris, London and Rome. This can work to the advantage of the international real estate investor, as prices in Portugal remain low. Prices in Portimao, in the Algarve region of Portugal, can run as little as $2,500 per square meter, for example. This translates to about $232 per square foot, compared with about $1,500 per square foot for a home in Malibu. Mexico Mexico often makes the news for its rising violent crime, but there are plenty of locations that are safe, beautiful and potentially great real estate investments. Even with all of the recent negative press, Mexico remains the #1 destination in the world for American expats, and with good reason. From friendly people, gorgeous beaches, amazing food and a low cost of living, for some, Mexico has it all. This may be particularly true if you’re looking to invest in a rental unit, as Mexico is quite popular with travelers from the entire world as well. To avoid any of the headline-making violence, consider the Yucatan Peninsula in eastern Mexico. The stretch from Cancun to Tulum is known as the Riviera Maya and is filled with the glorious beaches and weather that helps make Mexico so popular. A 1,940-square-foot, three-bedroom penthouse condo with an ocean view in Playa del Carmen can be had for $639,000, offering both rental and capital appreciation potential. Week 4 NFL Picks, Odds, 2022 Best Bets From Advanced Model: This Five-Way Football Parlay Would Pay Out 25-1 – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/week-4-nfl-picks-odds-2022-best-bets-from-advanced-model-this-five-way-football-parlay-would-pay-out-25-1-cbs-sports/ The 2022 NFL schedule has been rife with parity over the first three weeks, as a record 25 games have been decided by six points or fewer. The Las Vegas Raiders (0-3) are one of the two clubs yet to post a victory, but all of their losses were by fewer than seven points. Las Vegas will try to get into the win column when it hosts the AFC West-rival Denver Broncos during the Week 4 NFL schedule. The Raiders are 2.5-point favorites against Denver in the latest Week 4 NFL odds at Caesars Sportsbook, one of the slimmest NFL spreads of the week. Which Week 4 NFL lines should you target with your Week 4 NFL bets? Before you make any Week 4 NFL picks or NFL parlays, be sure to see the NFL predictions and betting advice from SportsLine’s proven computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up almost $7,000 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception. The model enters Week 4 of the 2022 NFL season on an incredible 139-103 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season.   The model also ranked in the top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past six years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94% of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is way up. Now, the model has locked in five confident NFL best bets for Week 4. If you successfully parlay its picks, you’d be looking at a massive payout of around 25-1. You can only see the model’s Week 4 NFL picks at SportsLine.  Top Week 4 NFL picks After simulating every game 10,000 times, the model is high on the Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5) to win and cover against the New York Jets on Sunday. Pittsburgh has struggled following the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger, as Mitch Trubisky has yet to throw for more than 210 yards and has only two touchdown passes over his first three games. The Steelers are coming off back-to-back losses, but now face a Jets team that has won just one of its nine all-time visits to the Steel City. New York scored two touchdowns in the final 1:22 of its 31-30 victory at Cleveland in Week 2, but couldn’t cross the goal line last Sunday, when it suffered a 27-12 home loss to Cincinnati. The Jets have yet to come up with a strong defensive performance this season, allowing at least 24 points in their three contests. The model expects them to struggle again this week, one reason why Pittsburgh is covering the spread in well over 50% of simulations. See which other NFL parlay picks to make here. How to make Week 4 NFL parlays The model also jumped on four other NFL matchups where it says the line is way off, including backing a pair of underdogs. You can only see the model’s NFL Week 4 best bets and parlay at SportsLine.  What are the model’s top Week 4 NFL picks? And which other NFL matchups should you target for a strong 25-1 payout? Visit SportsLine now to see the Week 4 NFL best bets from a model on a 139-103 run on its top-rated picks, and find out.

CAA Head Of Business Says The Metaverse And NFTs Are ‘Here To Stay’ (Audio) – TheWrap https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/caa-head-of-business-says-the-metaverse-and-nfts-are-here-to-stay-audio-thewrap/ Michael Yanover, CAA’s head of business development, insisted that the Metaverse and NFTs are not fads or the latest technology trend, but are in fact “here to stay.” “It’s a big space and I don’t think it’s going away at all,” Yanover said of NFTs and the Metaverse on TheWrap’s “Tech vs Media” podcast with host Richard Wolpert, adding that CAA recently hired a chief metaverse officer. “I think it needs to find its footing for sure. Was there maybe a little bit more excitement than there ought to have been at the beginning? Maybe. But man, this is this a powerful thing. This is not going away.” The trading value for NFTs recently dropped 97% since Jan. 2022, sliding down $17 billion to $466 million in September. While Yanover admits many aren’t consumed with NFTs at the moment — a fact backed by the collapse — he predicts that they will play a larger and larger role in daily life in the coming decades. “I think you and I would probably say in 10 or 20 years… it’ll just be part of our lives, everything will be registered as an NFT, you’ll probably buy a car or a house that will have some NFT component to it,” he said. “Everything that’s IP-based will probably have an NFT component to it.” Yanover also specifically noted that NFTs will serve the art industry as “the biggest registry system in the world,” noting that there is no current registry system for valuable art. While Yanover insists that NFTs are “here to stay,” he notes that “it’s going to morph [and] it’s going to have 1,000 more changes.” “It’s going to be incredibly impactful to the world of entertainment, to the world of anything that’s IP-based,” he said. The 10 Best Superhero Video Games Gamepur
The 10 Best Superhero Video Games Gamepur
The 10 Best Superhero Video Games – Gamepur https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-10-best-superhero-video-games-gamepur/ There are plenty of fantastic video games that feature iconic superheroes. From Marvel vs. Capcom during the time of arcades to the PlayStation 4’s Spider-Man, there are plenty of titles for superhero fans to enjoy. Here is a list of the ten best superhero video games. Related: Wolverine game announced for PlayStation 5, developed by Insomniac Superheroes in media have evolved significantly in the last decade. Thanks to the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the rise of nerd culture, superheroes are everywhere. While many feel that there may be an overexposure to superheroes, there’s no denying that a lot of great media centers around them. There are great superhero movies, comics, TV shows, and, of course, video games. There are plenty of fantastic video games that feature iconic superheroes. There are excellent games not only on DC superheroes and Marvel superheroes but on original heroes too. We feel as if it is time for us to give out our opinions of what are the best superhero video games. 10) Viewtiful Joe Screenshot via Marvel Entertainment Viewtiful Joe is an original superhero created by Capcom and starred in the video game of the same name for the Nintendo GameCube. The controls for the first Viewtiful Joe are a little clunky, and the platforming is not always the best. However, the title has a good style, featuring beautiful cel-shaded graphics that make the game pop. The game is silly and light, but it will put a smile on your face from the moment you start the game to when you defeat the final supervillain. 9) X-Men Origins: Wolverine X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a bad movie. Video games based on movies are usually bad. Somehow though, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game is pretty cool. X-Men Origins is a fun hack and slash, action-adventure game released in 2009. The game surprisingly plays well, and the graphics for the time were pretty good. Seeing Wolverine heal his wounds in real time is pretty impressive. The game also has the actor who portrays Wolverine in the movies, Hugh Jackman, voice the character in the video game, and that is pretty awesome. 8) inFAMOUS 2 Image via PlayStation The inFAMOUS franchise has the traditional trappings of a classic superhero story but laced with dark themes and questionable morality. The choices you make as Cole MacGrath in inFAMOUS 1 and 2 determine what morality Cole settles on, transforming him into either a hero or villain. The answers are not always the easiest, making the franchise a test of where players lie in the morality spectrum. inFAMOUS 2 is the better game of the original duology, presenting more robust gameplay and a darker storyline than the first. The series continued with inFAMOUS: First Son and Dying Light. 7) LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and LEGO Batman Image via Warner Bros. Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment You can never go wrong with a LEGO-based video game, and the LEGO Batman and Marvel Superheroes are some of the best in the LEGO catalog. The LEGO Batman game features a more simple storyline where Batman goes on fighting against villains from his rogue’s gallery like the Joker and the Riddler. Meanwhile, the LEGO Marvel Superheroes features a more encompassing campaign that stars the best Marvel Heroes from all corners of the universe. Both games are short, simple, and fun. They are the perfect games to play with kids. 6) Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Marvel: Ultimate Alliance has a simple premise – play as four of your favorite Marvel superheroes at the same time and go on missions to save the world. The franchise is an action role-playing game series where you punch and slash your way through your enemies. The first one, which was released on consoles back in 2006, is still the best in the franchise. The original Ultimate Alliance has an exciting story, plenty of side quests, and a massive character selection. The graphics are beautiful for what they were, and the combat is simple and fun. Even after all these years, the original Ultimate Alliance is still an incredibly enjoyable game, with plenty of content to keep you busy. Related: The 10 best Marvel comics games of all time, ranked 5) Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Image via Square Enix After the disastrous launch of the Square Enix published Avengers game, not many were expecting much with Square’s next Marvel game, especially one released so soon after Marvel’s Avengers. However, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy proved everyone wrong and is one of the best superhero games released. The game features an engaging campaign with tight controls that compliments the title’s game style. The story is a mixture of silly moments and genuine character development. Though Marvel’s Avengers ended up being a solid game after years of updates, Guardians of the Galaxy was amazing the moment it hit stores’ shelves. 4) Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes Image via Marvel and Capcom Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is unbalanced, with several characters being better than others. A lot of the character sprites are re-used from other Capcom games, and certain combos don’t work the way they are intended to. However, MVC 2 makes up for it by being a very enjoyable game to play. The game has 56 playable characters, one of the largest and best rosters in any fighting game. What other games can you say that let you play as Cyclops and face a psychotic little girl with a red hood? It may fall short of being a perfect game on a technical level; however, it certainly is one of the best superhero games on a fun level. 3) Injustice 2 Image via Warner Bros. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game that stars the heroes from the DC Universe and is developed by the same studio that made the Mortal Kombat series. It would later spawn a sequel, Injustice 2, in 2017. Injustice 2 improves almost everything else from the first game. The graphics in the game are gorgeous, and the gameplay is more polished and responsive than in the first game. The roster in the first Injustice is better, but it is cool to see less-popular characters like Swamp Thing and Doctor Fate in Injustice 2. Overall, Injustice 2 does everything that a sequel should do, and it is one of the most entertaining fighting games to play. 2) Spider-Man Image via Treyarch Insomniac’s Spider-Man game on the PlayStation 4 radically expanded what made the Spider-Man 2 video game tie-in fantastic, while improving on every aspect of it. While the combat in Insomniac’s Spider-Man comes across as being too similar to the Batman Arkham games, there is enough variety to make it feel different. The fighting is a joy to play, and the side missions are some of the best in any video game. Of course, a fantastic Spider-Man game wouldn’t be complete without web-slinging, and this game has the best web-slinging ever. You do believe you are Spider-Man swinging through New York. The web-swinging is simple to use in the game and incredibly satisfying to accomplish. No matter how many hours you put in the game, you will never get tired of web-slinging. 1) Batman: Arkham City Image via Rocksteady Games The combat in Arkham City was mostly the same as in the previous Arkham game, but City has a far larger world to explore. Whereas you were limited to just the asylum in the first game, you have an entire city to explore in Arkham City. The overworld is beautifully rendered in the game’s engine and filled with many Batman references. Arkham City also had more gadgets for players to use. The boss fights were also far more inventive than what they were in the first game. The Mr. Freeze boss fight remains one of the most fun and well-executed bosses ever. The voice cast gives the performances of a lifetime, and the ending perfectly encapsulates Batman’s relationship with his arch-nemesis the Joker.

Defendant Convicted Of Distributing Fentanyl That Resulted In U.S. Marine’s Death – DEA https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/defendant-convicted-of-distributing-fentanyl-that-resulted-in-u-s-marines-death-dea/ SAN DIEGO – A jury convicted Nameer Mohammad Atta yesterday in federal court of distributing the fentanyl that led to the fatal overdose of an active-duty lance corporal in the United States Marine Corps on May 21, 2020. According to evidence presented at trial, Atta sold fake “M30” pills containing fentanyl in April and May 2020 to the Marine, identified in court records as C.M.R., knowing that these pills contained fentanyl. Atta used social media to market and arrange sales of these pills, referring to them as the “most trusted” in San Diego, and in text messages as the “most trusted” and “most potent” in the area. Atta referred to these pills as “M30s,” “Percs” and “Perc30s,” nicknames for fake pills containing fentanyl. Atta’s final sale to C.M.R. occurred on May 20, 2020. C.M.R. died from an overdose the next day. “Once again, we’ve seen a life cut short by fentanyl in fake pills. DEA and its Overdose Response Team will continue to pursue the dealers and manufacturers who sell this poison,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Shelly Howe. “The only safe pill is one that comes from your doctor or a legitimate pharmacy.”  “This verdict again demonstrates the resolve of this office to hold to account those whose callous actions result in overdose deaths,” said U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman. “Fentanyl kills indiscriminately, and tragically here it took the life of a Marine. We will continue to seek justice on behalf of victims.” “The illicit distribution and use of fentanyl in the United States poses a critical threat to our local communities, our nation’s service members, and ultimately our national security,” said Special Agent in Charge Todd Battaglia of the NCIS Marine West Field Office. “NCIS extends gratitude to our law enforcement partners and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their efforts to bring Mr. Atta to justice for his role in the death of a U.S. Marine. We will continue to work aggressively with our partners to eliminate this threat to the Department of the Navy.” “This conviction is the result of painstaking work carried out by brave law enforcement officers in an effort to continue to keep these dangerous and deadly drugs out of our communities,” said Chad Plantz, Special Agent in Charge for HSI San Diego. “HSI, alongside our partners, will continue to identify and investigate those who seek to introduce lethal drugs into our communities.” Atta is scheduled to be sentenced on February 10, 2023, before U.S. District Court Judge Todd W. Robinson. AGENCIES: United States Attorney’s Office, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Homeland Security Investigations ###

Utah Tech Embracing Role As Only Technical University In Utah Deseret News
Utah Tech Embracing Role As Only Technical University In Utah – Deseret News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/utah-tech-embracing-role-as-only-technical-university-in-utah-deseret-news/ For the first time in its six-year history, the Silicon Slopes tech summit on Thursday had representation from a polytechnic university in the Beehive State. Before this year, there wasn’t a true polytechnic university in Utah. Then the university formerly known as Dixie State made the transition in May to Utah Tech University. Utah Tech University President Richard Williams was joined Thursday by board of trustees member Dave Elkington and Silicon Slopes cofounder and CEO Clint Betts to discuss the new era of the university. “We looked at all of the universities that had this polytechnic focus. We mapped it out in the United States map and there was this huge hole in the western United States, and right in the middle of that hole was St. George, Utah,” Williams said. With that, the university saw an opportunity and eventually snagged it when it transitioned to Utah Tech. It makes sense for a state with as big of a tech hub as Utah has that there would be a technical university to supply a competent workforce to the many companies that call Utah home, a point that Betts raised to Elkington. “We all know there’s just not enough engineering talent (and) there’s not enough computer science talent,” Elkington said. Elkington said that the university’s transition aims to fix that shortage, noting that the school isn’t going through a name change only, but a “focus change.” He pointed to the $100 million science, engineering and technology building that was built on Utah Tech’s campus in 2020. “There’s a makerspace, there’s engineering labs, there’s machine shops,” Elkington said. “I don’t think most people realize what this thing’s turned into, and it will produce, I think, the next generation of entrepreneurs, the next generation of talent for the state of Utah and honestly the country.” Utah Tech is also home to the Atwood Innovation Plaza, which has filed over 195 patents since its conception. “If you look on the world scale, we’re ranked in the top 25 in the world for how many patents are approved at a university — not in Utah, in the world,” Williams said. Both Elkington and Williams said that the university will be welcoming collaboration and input from Utah’s tech sector. In March, the university struck a partnership with Pluralsight, a technology workforce development company, to help students enhance their education with technology-based skills. “We are in a transition and we are looking toward the day that we will become a truly polytechnic university,” said Chris Guymon, assistant provost for adult and professional education at Utah Tech. “It became very, very clear that our students, in particular — but also our faculty and staff and our alumni — needed to have greater experiences around technology.” Students, faculty and staff can now take any of the 7,000 courses offered by Pluralsight. The new connection will give all current university students, faculty and staff unlimited access to Pluralsight Skills, an online platform that teaches technology-based skills people need to succeed in today’s digital world. “We want experts in learning opportunities for our students. Come and share with us, let’s build some internships, externships, whatever we need,” Williams said. “We’d like the tech companies to come and partner with our faculty. Give us projects you want us to accomplish that we can embed in our curriculum.” Elkington also took the opportunity to emphasize that the university is “not the Dixie State that it was.” “It’s a different feel. Come be involved. This is your university, this is Silicon Slopes’ university,” Elkington said. “Technology is changing, as you know,” Williams said. “We need to be partners with (Silicon) Slopes to make sure that we are the tech university for the state of Utah.”

Ripple Effect Of Kentuckiana’s Bus Driver Shortage | Whas11.com – WHAS11.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ripple-effect-of-kentuckianas-bus-driver-shortage-whas11-com-whas11-com/ Bus spelled backwards is sub, and in Breckinridge County, they’re taking substitute bus drivers to a whole different level. It’s an extracurricular activity just to make sure school kids get a ride. Mike Harned, chief of student services at Breckinridge County Schools, said it’s a complete team effort every day just to get all the routes covered. The school district said it has about 35 bus drivers, but it’s not enough. “We’ve made it work, but it is a day-to-day struggle,” Harned said. And the “struggle” is widespread. FOCUS called several school districts in Kentuckiana, and in Kentucky, only five of 20 districts reported they are fully-staffed with bus drivers. Jefferson County Public Schools said it needs to hire 76 drivers to reach what JCPS considers the fully staffed mark of 920 drivers. In Southern Indiana, its much the same way. Most districts are short, with only Greater Clark County Schools, Crothersville Community Schools in Jackson County and Madison Consolidated Schools in Jefferson County reporting they have a full staff of drivers. “Really use about five more, and then I think we would be in a pretty good spot,” Harned said. Breckinridge County Schools is hiring, and offers a $600 incentive to do so. Problem is, so is everyone else. “There’s so many other jobs out there that everybody seems to be fighting over the same folks,” Harned said. In the meantime, all hands are on deck. Including the superintendent of Breckinridge County Schools. Breckinridge County Schools Superintendent Dr. Nick Carter said he’s been driving since the first full week of school. He’s been picking the kids up in the morning and then taking them to the middle and high school. It’s about a 15 to 20-minute bus ride, where Carter is not only the driver, but he’s also the bus monitor. “We need several bus drivers, it’s not a problem that’s going to go away quickly,” he said. And with a shortage with not many applicants, districts must also plan for retirements. “I am concerned that it could get worse, can we continue to replace drivers as they retire?” Carter asked. Therefore, Carter is calling on lawmakers to consider adjusting the rules to fast-track drivers that already have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) to become a school bus driver. “Even if they’re a retired semi driver, they still have to go through all the training,” he said. Until something changes, substitutes aren’t just teachers, they can be superintendents too. “I think it’s just part of what all of us do in public education, we do whatever needs to be done to help kids, and right now in our district, this is what we need,” Carter said.
