Ensuring Access To Good Food Improves Health Of Poor, Chronically Ill – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/ensuring-access-to-good-food-improves-health-of-poor-chronically-ill-milwaukee-journal-sentinel/ Shelly Greer, diagnosed with diabetes in late 2017 at the age of 38, was struggling to manage the disease when a physician referred her to a new program at Ascension Wisconsin. “I really needed it at the time,” Greer said. Her HbA1c, a blood sugar measurement critical for diabetics, was at 10; below 8 is the threshold for diabetes under control. Ascension Wisconsin started the program — called Under 8 — in 2020, focusing on patients who live in the low-income neighborhoods near its Ascension SE Wisconsin-St. Joseph campus on the city’s northside. The 12-week program provides five prepared healthy meals — designed for people with diabetes — each week from UpStart Kitchen, a restaurant incubator in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood. The program also provides grocery bags of food healthy for diabetics, and holds weekly meetings that offer counselling on nutrition, lifestyle and medication adherence. Over the duration of the program, Greer’s HbA1c fell from 10 to 6.3. The program is an example of how to improve health by going outside the four walls of a clinic and meeting people where they live, said Nancy Leahy, a nurse practitioner with Ascension Wisconsin. “We do it in a community setting, where people are a little more comfortable than meeting in a hospital or a clinic,” she said. It also is one of hundreds of initiatives — most of them small for now — started by health systems nationwide that move beyond doctor visits in clinical settings and instead address underlying social and economic conditions that affect health, particularly among poor people. Those conditions — what are known as the social determinants, or drivers, of health — can be more important than access to the best doctors and medicines in influencing a person’s overall health. They include food, housing, education, employment, neighborhoods, and the support of family and friends. Putting more resources toward addressing them not only could improve lives, it could save money. Adequate and stable housing often is considered the foundation of good health. But access to healthy and appropriate food can be as important, particularly in managing chronic conditions, such as diabetes and heart failure. And those conditions are more common among people who have low incomes. Some initiatives by health systems and, increasingly, health insurers focus on finding new ways to help people with those conditions to eat healthier. Some center on lessening food insecurity — the uncertain access to adequate, quality food. Some do both. There are hurdles to overcome. Healthy food can be more expensive, and the amount of money someone on a tight budget spends on housing can limit what’s left for food. Seth Berkowitz, a physician and professor of general medicine and clinical epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Fundamentally this gets down to insufficient resources that people need to maintain health, and food insecurity is just one manifestation of that. Quote icon Lower-income neighborhoods may be so-called food deserts, where corner convenience stores with limited offerings have taken the place of full-fledged supermarkets. For someone without a car, a trip to a supermarket can become a trek that involves several buses, possibly young children in tow, and then hauling back bags of groceries. “Fundamentally this gets down to insufficient resources that people need to maintain health, and food insecurity is just one manifestation of that,” said Seth Berkowitz, a physician and professor of general medicine and clinical epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Education and health literacy — understanding what makes up a healthy diet and how to achieve it — also have a role. People who are skeptical of the prevalence of food insecurity note that many poor people are overweight or obese. What’s lost is that some, without the knowledge or the ability to get good food, may be getting by on calorie-rich processed foods and snacks. The impact of food insecurity on health is not new. For adults, it is associated with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis, depression and other medical conditions, according to the Food Research & Action Center.  Food insecurity added an estimated $51.8 billion a year to the health care costs for adults, according to a 2019 study done by Berkowitz and his co-authors. That included an estimated $687 million in additional health care costs in Wisconsin. The study found that health care costs for adults who were food insecure was $1,073 to $2,595 a year higher than costs for adults who had adequate food.  The study did not find a significant increase in costs for children. But food insecurity is associated with an array of poor health outcomes for children, from more frequent colds and stomach aches to behavioral health conditions, according to the Food Research & Action Center. Rowan Van Patten, 19, from Davenport, Iowa, a Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design student, with food received from the Interchange Food Pantry. Van Patten doesn’t receive assistance from family, and struggles to balance the cost of school and meals. He sought assistance at food pantries. Angela Peterson / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel “After multiple risk factors are considered, children who live in households that are food insecure, even at the lowest levels, are likely to be sick more often, recover from illness more slowly, and be hospitalized more frequently,” the American Academy of Pediatrics said in a policy statement titled Promoting Food Security for All Children. “Lack of adequate, healthy food can impair a child’s ability to concentrate and perform well in school and is linked to higher levels of behavioral and emotional problems from preschool through adolescence.” For adults, much of the increased cost for adults came from more hospital stays and emergency department visits. Here’s one example: A study done in California found a 27% increase in hospital admissions for people with diabetes who have low incomes in the last week of the month compared with the first week. There was no change for people with higher incomes. The likely reason is that people with low incomes had exhausted their food benefits and had less access to the foods essential to managing the disease at the end of the month. The increase overall actually was higher. The study looked at just hospital admissions and did not include increased visits to clinics or emergency departments. Nationally, initiatives by health systems have included providing financial support, such as low-interest loans for supermarkets to open in a low-income neighborhood. Some are experimenting with providing medically tailored meals to people with chronic diseases. The initiatives supplement and build on the work done for decades by organizations throughout the country, such as the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee, to lessen food insecurity and encourage healthy diets. Chorus Community Health Plans, formerly Children’s Community Health Plan, for example, has a pilot program — Fresh Food Rx — that enables physicians and other clinicians at its Midtown Clinic to give vouchers for Pete’s Fruit Market to people who have been screened for food insecurity. Juan Gonzalez stocks fruits and vegetables at Pete’s Fruit Market in Milwaukee. Children’s Wisconsin has a pilot program at its Midtown Clinic, 5433 W. Fond Du Lac Ave., in which a physician, or other clinician, can give struggling patients vouchers for food at the grocery store. Angela Peterson / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel The grocer offers items such as its popular value baskets that contain a mix of vegetables and fruits, said Sam Cunningham, manager of the store at 2323 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. “Healthy eating means a long-lasting life,” Cunningham said. Again, there are hurdles. Children can be picky eaters, said Lisa Zetley, a pediatrician at the Midtown Clinic. Families with low incomes often buy things that won’t spoil. Some people don’t know how to cook different vegetables. Chorus Community Health Plans, an affiliate of Children’s Wisconsin, offers everyone in its health plans free access to the Foodsmart app. More than 5,400 people in its health plans have signed up for the app. One feature provides access to a registered dietrician, and 3,145 people in the health plans have made use of that feature more than 5,500 times so far. The app also provides healthy recipes that appeal to children. It then turns the recipes into a shopping list — and shows which supermarkets have the lowest prices for the ingredients. The idea is to offer personalized, culturally relevant recipes that are affordable and support lasting changes to eating behavior, said Mark Rakowski, president of Chorus Community Health Plans “This is literally the first solution that resonates with all of our providers as they look to support the patients and families that are food insecure, or who are looking for support to eat healthier,” he said.  An estimated 33.8 million people — living in more than one in 10 households — were food insecure in 2021, according the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This means they reduced the quality or variety of what they ate because of lack of money or other resources at some point during the year. It doesn’t happen regularly. But it happened on average in seven months of the year.  These figures require some parsing. They include 8.6 million adults — and 521,000 children — who live in 5.1 million households with very low food security. This means that one or more people in the household — usually an adult — ate less or went without food at times during the year because...

Police Arrest Convicted Vegas Bombmaker Who Escaped Prison The Washington Post
Police Arrest Convicted Vegas Bombmaker Who Escaped Prison – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/police-arrest-convicted-vegas-bombmaker-who-escaped-prison-the-washington-post/ LAS VEGAS — Police have arrested a convicted bombmaker who escaped from a Nevada prison where he was serving a life sentence for a deadly 2007 explosion outside a Las Vegas Strip, authorities said. Las Vegas police said they received information Wednesday night that a person matching the description of Porfirio Duarte-Herrera was in the area. Officers took the man into custody, confirmed he was Duarte-Herrera and arrested him, the department said in a statement. Additional information wasn’t immediately released by Las Vegas police. Gov. Steve Sisolak had earlier ordered an investigation into the escape after he said late Tuesday his office learned the escapee had been missing from the medium-security prison since early in the weekend. Officials didn’t realize until Tuesday morning that Duarte-Herrera, 42, was missing during a head count at Southern Desert Correctional Center near Las Vegas. Duarte-Herrera, from Nicaragua, was convicted in 2010 of killing a hot dog stand vendor using a motion-activated bomb in a coffee cup atop a car parked at the Luxor hotel-casino. Records show his co-defendant, Omar Rueda-Denvers, remained in custody. The 47-year-old from Guatemala is serving a life sentence at a different Nevada prison for murder, attempted murder, explosives and other charges. A Clark County District Court jury spared both men from the death penalty in the slaying of Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio, whom prosecutors identified as the boyfriend of Rueda-Denvers’ ex-girlfriend. Prosecutors said jealousy was the motive for the attack on the top deck of a two-story parking structure. The blast initially raised fears of a terrorist attack on the Strip.

Healthy Living: Examining Antibiotics Limerick Live Limerick Live
Healthy Living: Examining Antibiotics – Limerick Live – Limerick Live https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/healthy-living-examining-antibiotics-limerick-live-limerick-live/ The cold weather, spending more time indoors and the dry, heated air make us more prone to get colds. In such stressful times many people feel under the weather and ask their GP to prescribe antibiotics – even though the symptoms might not be of a bacterial origin. Antibiotics are the most over-prescribed medicine in the world – as a result, now we have many species that are resistant to even our most advanced drugs. What used to be a miracle cure in the early 20th century is rapidly becoming our enemy due to overuse. In ancient times in Greece and India, moulds, herbal remedies and even warm soil have been used (in Russia) to treat an infection, until Sir Alexander Fleming, a Scottish biologist, defined new horizons for modern antibiotics with the isolation of an enzyme from Penicillium notatum fungus in 1928. Skip ahead 50 years, and Martin Blaser, Chair of the Department of Medicine at New York University recently published a book called “Missing Microbes”, highlighting the potentially dangerous long-term consequences that arise from the rampant overuse of antibiotics. He argues that changes in our microbiota may even be promoting the transmission of deadly organisms, as one of the important roles of an intact microflora is to resist colonization by pathogenic (bad) organisms. Blaser also points out that, not only does the individual use of antibiotics cause permanent changes in the gut flora, but that infants born to women given antibiotics during pregnancy, or the 30% of children delivered via Caesarean section, may be starting life with a significantly altered and insufficient level of friendly gut flora. This is a serious concern because lack of diversity in friendly gut bacteria has been shown to contribute to a large number of diseases and complications. The problem is that antibiotics kill bacteria, but not yeasts or parasites. It does not discriminate between disease-causing bacteria and our beneficial strains. Now some specific antibiotics are unavailable, so doctors have to use the more detrimental, broad-spectrum ones. Even a single course of broad-spectrum antibiotics can cause a significant change in the variety of strains we have for years ahead, affecting digestive, immune, and overall health. The diversity of the microflora is the base for overall health, as each bacterium has its unique health benefits. Studies show that reduced diversity is behind common gastrointestinal problems like IBS and even inflammatory bowel disease and other autoimmune diseases as they’re linked to immune system imbalances. Why? Because over 70% of our immune cells reside in the gut and are influenced by the microbes living there. Therefore, if you suffer from any ailments, or have taken antibiotics ever in your life – it is time to find out what is growing inside you with functional testing and re-establish your healing bacterial diversity. If you must take antibiotics, taking a diverse live bacteria supplement alongside – starting from day 1, may reduce side effects and potentially improve the efficacy of antibiotics. Armani Beauty Partners With Fortnite To Bring Fragrances In The Metaverse – Premium Beauty https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/armani-beauty-partners-with-fortnite-to-bring-fragrances-in-the-metaverse-premium-beauty/ A field of all possibilities, the metaverse now allows people to buy virtual fashion and accessories, to see exhibitions or to attend concerts. But these new worlds at the frontier of reality are above all favored by brands seeking to gain visibility among their prime target, Generation Z, which masters these worlds like no other — even if only a minority have actually set foot in them. As a result, some brands have decided to go big, pulling out all the stops to stage initiatives in places where consumers are actually present — i.e., in the world of gaming, a form of metaverse that is enjoyed by billions of people around the world. Online game Armani Beauty has now partnered with one of the most popular games, “Fortnite,” to promote its new men’s fragrance, Code. Evidently, it’s not a question of testing the new fragrance online, which is impossible for now. Here, it’s about encouraging users to take part in an immersive experience called “Rewrite the Code” as a means of discovering the scent — in turn making as many people as possible want to try it — and buy it. In fact, it is above all a fairly classic online game, which put the recent launch at centre stage. “In a world where time flows backwards, players race through maze-like speed runs to collect the numbers needed to unlock the Armani Code building and the Armani Code Parfum bottle, in order to harness its magnetic power to put the world forwards again,” explains the brand on its Instagram account. Through this game, players have the opportunity to get acquainted with the bottle, the ingredients, and especially the scent’s wider universe. Creating their own world, or a themed space in the metaverse allows brands to present their new products, while also building customer loyalty, and even creating a community. Brands like Balenciaga, Gucci, Hermès and Dior — among others — have understood this perfectly, and have all jumped into the world of gaming and, even more broadly, into these new virtual worlds. Indeed, these brands already have strong communities, and the metaverse can offer them many new possibilities.

The Global True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Market Size Is Expected To Reach $243.9 Billion By 2028, Rising At A Market Growth Of 34.6% CAGR During The Forecast Period – GlobeNewswire https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-global-true-wireless-stereo-earbuds-market-size-is-expected-to-reach-243-9-billion-by-2028-rising-at-a-market-growth-of-34-6-cagr-during-the-forecast-period-globenewswire/ New York, Sept. 29, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Reportlinker.com announces the release of the report “Global True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Market Size, Share & Industry Trends Analysis Report By Price Band, By Sales Channel, By Regional Outlook and Forecast, 2022 – 2028” – https://www.reportlinker.com/p06322395/?utm_source=GNW A growing number of users are choosing Bluetooth earbuds over traditional earphones while they commute or work out as a result of the recent removal of the 3.5mm true wireless stereo earbuds jack design from many mobile phones. Wireless earbuds have developed into a very compact size and cordless form factor due to the advancement of Bluetooth technology, which refers to as True Wireless Stereo (TWS). True Wireless Stereo (TWS) uses Bluetooth signals rather than wires or cords to transfer sound. TWS stands out from wireless accessories since it doesn’t rely on physical connections to media sources but still needs them to ensure that a device’s many components can communicate with one another. Wireless sport stereo earbuds that are connected by a wire that runs around the user’s neck are an awesome example of this. However, accessories that make use of true wireless technology are just truly wireless. To connect to a media source device or to connect one speaker or earphone to another, they don’t need cords. Through Bluetooth chips, connectivity is achieved fully wirelessly. Different TWS devices can connect to media sources in different ways depending on the brand and accessory in question. A single earbud is frequently used as the main link between the news outlet and the second earpiece in TWS true wireless stereo earbuds. An immersive surround-sound experience is created when earbud one transmits a signal to the source device, joins, and then the source device sends the same signal to earbud two. COVID-19 Impact Analysis The pandemic did not affect consumer demand, nevertheless, as a disproportionately larger portion of goods retailing was done online. Throughout the pandemic, the market’s steady growth has been maintained by the rising product demand for work-from-home/fitness activities. However, the COVID-19 pandemic saw a considerable surge in the production of several consumer gadgets. Consumer electronics were more in demand as a result of lockdown protocols. The consumer electronics sector grew exponentially as a result of the rise in popularity of smartphones, laptops, and personal computers. Market Growth Factors The Growing Popularity Of Wireless Earbuds Among Gaming And Sports Enthusiasts Consumers growing emphasis on health and fitness is boosting the demand for smart devices to use while exercising. The popularity of video game consoles among sports fans and the growing demand for attractive wearable technology are driving the use of wireless earphones. True wireless earbuds have many advantages over conventional earphones, chief among them being their ease of usage for a multitude of activities. True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Secure And Comfy Even better, these earbuds typically have ergonomic designs for optimal comfort and a snugger fit, and they now have longer battery lives than in the past so they can last longer than just a few stops on the train before needing a quick charge. All of this painfully demonstrates one thing: going wireless is now more enticing than ever. Tech-savvy consumers are quickly embracing portable headphones with cutting-edge capabilities like noise-canceling and echo reduction. Market Restraining Factors Growing Products Demand That Are Counterfeit Premium wireless earphones are becoming more and more popular. The largest obstacle for the market for wireless earbuds is the widespread availability of counterfeit goods. The desire for premium products from the top market participants may be hindered shortly as a result of the availability of forged goods in grey marketplaces at unbelievably low prices. Additionally, the growing popularity of smart and neckband wireless earbuds is another factor that could limit the market’s expansion. Price Band Outlook On the basis of Price Band, the True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Market is divided into Below USD 100, USD 100-99, and Over USD 200. The USD 100-99 segment acquired the highest revenue share in the true wireless stereo earbuds market in 2021. It is because companies such as Apple Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., and Jabra, among others, have significantly influenced the market share. Over the next few years, Apple Inc. is projected to maintain its leadership position in the global true wireless stereo earbuds market. Sales Channel Outlook Based on the Sales Channel, the True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Market is classified into Offline and Online. The online segment recorded a substantial revenue share in the true wireless stereo earbuds market in 2021. It is owing to the growing number of smartphones along with the high penetration of internet. In addition, there are many key companies which are increasing their online presence for the sales of these earbuds. Along with that, the convenience offered by online stores would escalate the growth of the segment over the forecast period. Regional Outlook Region-wise, the True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Market is analyzed across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and LAMEA. The North America segments garnered the highest revenue share in the true wireless stereo earbuds market in 2021. The demand for TWS in North America has been largely driven by the success of Air Pods. Several smartphone manufacturers have released wireless earbuds that are specifically connected to their products. Many consumers are seen making purchases of related accessories due to the sharp increase in the frequency of smartphone replacement cycles. The major strategies followed by the market participants are Product Launches. Based on the Analysis presented in the Cardinal matrix; Apple, Inc. is the forerunner in the True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Market. Companies such as Amazon.com, Inc. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Huawei Device Co., Ltd. are some of the key innovators in True Wireless Stereo Earbuds Market. The market research report covers the analysis of key stake holders of the market. Key companies profiled in the report include Apple, Inc., Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Samsung Group), Amazon.com, Inc., Xiaomi Corporation, Sony Corporation, Boat-Lifestyle (Imagine Marketing Private Limited), Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (Huawei Investment & Holding Co., Ltd.) XRP Price In The Green – Can It Reach $0.50 Today? – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/xrp-price-in-the-green-can-it-reach-0-50-today-cryptonews/ Source: Unsplash The price of Ripple’s XRP token is in the green for the past 24 hours, after buyers bid it up from a strong support zone yesterday. And although $0.50 may be a stretch today, the significant price level could be in play once highs from this week are taken out. As of Thursday at 11:36 UTC, XRP traded at $0.44, up 2.8% for the past 24 hours and up 2.7% for the past 7 days. Notably, the token also stands out as one of the best-performing tokens over the past 30 days among the top 100 coins by market cap with a gain of 33.2%. XRP 30-day price chart. Source: CoinGecko The gains today came after the token reached a peak of $0.56 on Friday last week, which was followed by a near week-long sell-off. The selling intensified in recent days, before buyers entered the scene on Wednesday to bid the price up from the $0.42 support zone. The question for traders now is whether XRP will continue to rise after bouncing off the support zone yesterday, or if the downtrend from the past few days instead will resume. Looking at the token purely from a technical analysis standpoint, it’s clear that the short-term trend is now up. This can clearly be seen on the hourly chart, with a series of higher lows since the market bottomed yesterday around 8am UTC. Zooming out to the daily timeframe, however, we can see that a fall towards previous resistance-turned support around $0.385 could be in the cards. It’s also worth noting that the daily relative strength index (RSI) has fallen from “overbought” territory, and is now in the upper half of the neutral zone. To the upside, the first major obstacle would be Wednesday’s high of around $0.45 area. If that level is taken out, further upside towards highs from earlier this week around $0.50 could also be seen within a relatively short amount of time. Ripple court case lingers on As reported by Cryptonews.com on Wednesday, XRP was down 11% over the course of just 24 hours that day as the Ripple vs. SEC legal battle lingers on. The latest news from the case now is that both Ripple and the SEC have filed for the court to make a summary judgment on the case, which would bring it to a close. Such a judgment isn’t going to be made immediately, but the fact that both parties have called for it means that it’s now on the horizon. Ripple has been involved in a legal battle against the US financial regulator since December of 2020, when the SEC brought a suit against the firm for its sale of XRP tokens to investors.

U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Fall; Second-Quarter GDP Unrevised – Reuters.com https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-weekly-jobless-claims-fall-second-quarter-gdp-unrevised-reuters-com/ WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) – The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly fell last week as the labor market remains resilient despite rising headwinds from the Federal Reserve’s stiff interest rate increases and slowing demand. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 16,000 to a seasonally adjusted 193,000 for the week ended Sept. 24, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Data for the prior week was revised to show 4,000 fewer applications filed than previously reported. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 215,000 applications for the latest week. While there have been reports of some companies laying off workers, claims have remained at the lower end of their 168,000-252,000 range for this year. Economists say most employers are hoarding workers after experiencing difficulties hiring in the past year as the COVID-19 pandemic forced some people out of the workforce, in part because of prolonged illness caused by the virus. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com They expect companies to pull back on hiring before resorting to widespread job cuts. The U.S. central bank last week raised its policy interest rate by 75 basis points, its third straight increase of that size, and signaled more large increases to come this year. Since March, the Fed has hiked its policy rate from near zero to the current range of 3.00% to 3.25%. There were 11.2 million job openings at the end of July, with two jobs for every unemployed person. The claims report showed the number of people receiving benefits after an initial week of aid fell 29,000 to 1.347 million in the week ending Sept. 17. The so-called continuing claims data, a proxy for hiring, covered the week that the government surveyed households for August’s unemployment rate. Continuing claims fell between the July and August survey periods. The jobless rate rose to 3.7% in August from 3.5% in July. The Fed last week raised its median forecast for the unemployment rate this year to 3.8% from its previous projection of 3.7% in June. It boosted its estimate for 2023 to 4.4% from the 3.9% projected in June. The strong labor market is helping to keep the economy afloat. While a separate report from the Commerce Department on Thursday confirmed that the economy contracted in the first half of this year, it is not in recession, with the income side of the growth ledger expanding moderately. Gross domestic product fell at an unrevised 0.6% annualized rate last quarter, the government said in its third estimate of GDP. The economy contracted at a 1.6% rate in the first quarter. The government also revised GDP data from the fourth quarter of 2016 through the fourth quarter of 2021, which showed the economy’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic was much stronger than initially thought. The revisions also showed the gap between GDP and the other economic growth measure, gross domestic income (GDI), was far much smaller than initially thought in 2021. Seniors On Medicare Just Got Some Really Good News – 69News WFMZ-TV https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/seniors-on-medicare-just-got-some-really-good-news-69news-wfmz-tv/ It’s hardly a secret that healthcare is a huge burden for many retirees. And the cost of Medicare plays into that. While Medicare Part A, which covers hospital care, is generally free for enrollees, Part B, which covers diagnostic services and outpatient care, costs money. Part B premiums start at a base amount but can be higher for seniors with larger incomes. They can also rise from year to year. But in 2023, the cost of Medicare Part B is actually dropping for the first time in years. And that should give seniors some relief at a time when living costs are soaring. Image source: Getty Images. Lower monthly premiums are coming Right now, the standard Medicare Part B premium is $170.10 per month. And when that $170.10 premium was announced for 2022, it came as a bit of a shock, given that 2021’s standard Part B premium was $148.50. But next year, the standard Part B premium is dropping to $164.90, representing a $5.20 decrease per month. And that should help seniors stretch their incomes a bit further at a time when inflation is through the roof. Why the drop in Part B premiums? Part of it has to do with a price reduction in a new drug for Alzheimer’s disease that’s now expected to cost Medicare less to cover. And the less Medicare has to spend, the more savings it can pass along to enrollees. Also, this year, spending was lower than projected on various Part B expenses and services. That allowed Medicare to pump more money into its trust fund, thereby allowing for lower premium costs. Not only are Part B premiums going down in 2023, but the annual deductible is dropping, too. Right now, it’s $233. Next year, it will be $226. Good news for Social Security benefits The fact that Medicare should cost less in 2023 is great news all around. But seniors on Social Security may be even more inclined to celebrate. The reason? Social Security benefits are expected to get a giant cost-of-living adjustment in 2023 due to recent inflation levels — the largest in decades, in fact. When Medicare Part B premiums increase, they can eat into those Social Security raises. But since that’s not happening next year, seniors can expect more robust Social Security payments. Seniors should take advantage of open enrollment The news that Medicare Part B premiums are decreasing in 2023 comes just weeks before the start of the program’s annual open enrollment period. Each year, Medicare enrollees get an opportunity to make changes to their coverage starting on October 15 through December 7. While seniors may not get much of a say in their Part B coverage, they can opt for a Medicare Advantage plan as an alternative to original Medicare. They can also make changes to their Part D drug coverage, as needed, to save money on premiums, copays, or both. Those who make smart choices during this year’s open-enrollment window could really end up shaving down their healthcare costs for 2023. The $18,984 Social Security bonus most retirees completely overlook If you’re like most Americans, you’re a few years (or more) behind on your retirement savings. But a handful of little-known “Social Security secrets” could help ensure a boost in your retirement income. For example: one easy trick could pay you as much as $18,984 more… each year! Once you learn how to maximize your Social Security benefits, we think you could retire confidently with the peace of mind we’re all after. Tyson Fury Sets Anthony Joshua Another New Deadline | ‘Get This Contract Signed Today’ – Sky Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tyson-fury-sets-anthony-joshua-another-new-deadline-get-this-contract-signed-today-sky-sports/ Tyson Fury has returned to negotiations for the all-British heavyweight super-fight with Anthony Joshua. But Fury has set his rival another deadline and called for him to sign the contract for their showdown today. “My promoter Frank Warren convinced me to let Queensberry carry on negotiating with your team this week, despite me knowing that you were never going to do this fight,” Fury said. Tyson Fury: Let’s find out if Joe Joyce can beat me Joe Joyce: I’d get to Oleksandr Usyk! Wilder expects fourth Fury fight Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Fury believes Joe Joyce is currently the second-best heavyweight in the world and admits he could fight his fellow Brit in the future Both Fury and Joshua are aligned with different broadcasters. Bringing those networks to an agreement on a TV deal was seen as a key stumbling block in the negotiations for this fight. But Fury has claimed that the rival broadcasters are “all happy with the terms”. “So the deadline was Monday,” Fury said. “I allowed Frank to continue doing meetings with your team and your broadcasters and all that. Now we have BT, DAZN and ESPN all on the same page. They are happy with everything, they are all ready to rock and roll. “You guys ask for a lot of stuff, you want to be co-promoters when you’re a voluntary challenger. Guess what, I said give it them, let them be co-promoters. “You wanted full transparency, even though you’re not an equal shareholder in this party. You know what I said? Give them full transparency, I’ve got nothing to hide, I’m not trying to rob anybody, I’ve not robbed anybody of a penny in my life. “So now you’ve got full transparency, everything is clean and fair. Now Joshua, the ball is really in your court son.” Joshua has previously insisted that he would sign the contract, but it had to go through his lawyers and management team. In a direct challenge to him, Fury declared, “Everybody is done. If you’re a man, and if you’ve got any sort of dignity and pride about you, you’ll get this contract signed today. This is it. There is no more days, weeks, months, you’ve had the contract now for over two weeks and you still haven’t signed it. “Show the public that you’re really the big coward that I know you are, and don’t sign it. I don’t care either way if you sign it or you don’t, it makes no difference to me at all. You’re a beaten man and I’m a world champion. I’m chucking you a massive bone, but I know I can punch a face in so I’m willing to give you an opportunity. Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Dillian Whyte says he’d be happy to fight Joshua in December if his proposed fight with Fury doesn’t get made “There’s nothing more to do, everyone is happy. Get your team onto mine, they will be available all day, like they’ve been available the last two weeks. Get this contract signed! “Let the British fans have what they want. There is no running, you have to fight me. You cannot escape. The Fury is coming.” Usyk expects to fight Fury early next year Anthony Joshua is no longer a world champion after losing the IBF, WBO and WBA titles to Oleksandr Usyk last year. Usyk defended his unified championship when he won last month’s rematch against Joshua. The Ukrainian star was initially Fury’s target for an undisputed title clash. But when Usyk revealed that injury would prevent him boxing again this year, the WBC titlist’s attention shifted to the negotiations with Joshua. Usyk’s team however believes that his fight with Fury will still happen. Alexander Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, told Sky Sports that: “There won’t be Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.” He expects Fury to be Usyk’s next fight early in 2023.

Web 3 0 Metaverse And Business – BW Businessworld https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/web-3-0-metaverse-and-business-bw-businessworld/ To stay ahead of the curve, businesses must focus on collecting customer data and utilizing it to create targeted marketing campaigns. Additionally, they need to be prepared for the rise of the Metaverse and the move towards a Web 3.0 world powered by blockchain technology. 1660144515_d1BNVc_images_1_.jpeg The digital world is constantly evolving. Things going back as recently as five years have now turned obsolete. It becomes challenging for businesses to keep up with the changing dynamics due t the technological revolutions happening by the second. The only key to handling it is by staying ahead of the curve with digital marketing. Web 3.0 and the Metaverse play a critical role in this journey. That brings us to the cusp of understanding how digital marketing is shaping the future of businesses with the help of cutting-edge technology.   What is Web 3.0?   Based on the concept of conceiving and nurturing an utterly decentralized ecosystem, Web 3.0 aims to leverage the power of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Blockchain to solve the issues of the present-day digital complexities. Web 3.0 refers to a new, improved, and democratized internet ecosystem which will be free from any central authority.   In a conversation, Ganapathy Sankarabaaham, CEO, Vajra Global said, “Web 3.0 is the third generation of the World Wide Web and is currently under development. The defining features of Web 3.0 are semantic web technologies, which allow machines to understand the meaning of data on the web. This means that data can be linked together in order to provide a more comprehensive picture of information. In addition, Web 3.0 technologies offer new ways to leverage data, such as through data mining and machine learning. As a result, Web 3.0 has the potential to transform the way we interact with the internet, and it presents a unique opportunity for businesses to gain insights into customer behavior.” It further becomes important to understand how to leverage these technologies, thus helping businesses to stay ahead of the curve and capitalise on this emerging trend.  What is the Metaverse?   Metaverse is the blend of virtual reality and mixed reality words that can be accessed through the headset or the browser. This enables netizens to have real-time interaction across everywhere. Metaverse is used to describe an ecosystem that can find elements, creations, experiences, and interactions.   It refers to a virtual reality world created and maintained by humans. The Metaverse can be used for entertainment, communication, or even work. For example, many people play video games in the Metaverse. Others use it to chat with friends or colleagues. Some businesses even hold meetings in the Metaverse. Sankarabaaham explains that the Metaverse has the potential to change the way we live and work. For example, it could enable us to telecommute or live and work in any location we choose. It could also help us to meet new people and make new friends. Finally, the Metaverse could provide a platform for educational experiences that are more immersive and interactive than anything we have today.  Digital marketing blended with Web 3.0 and the Metaverse   Digital marketing is highly dependent on consumer data. The data collected by businesses will become more and more valuable as time goes on. This is because customer data can be used to create targeted marketing campaigns far more likely to result in a sale than a generic advertisement. As a result, businesses that can collect and utilize customer data effectively will have a significant competitive advantage over those that do not.  Sankarabaaham says, “We are moving towards a Web 3.0 world, where the internet is powered by blockchain technology and decentralized applications. In this world, businesses can interact directly with their customers without going through intermediaries such as Facebook or Google. This will allow businesses to build closer relationships with their customers and better understand their needs.” Furthermore, the rise of the Metaverse—a digital universe where people can interact with each other and digital representations of real-world objects—will create new opportunities for businesses to engage with their customers. For example, businesses will be able to create virtual storefronts where customers can browse and purchase products without leaving their home’s comforts.   The meeting of the trinity   The way we interact with the internet is changing dynamically. Where once we were content in surfing the web and passively consuming content, we are now increasingly interacting with digital experiences that are more immersive and engaging. “This shift is being driven by Web 3.0 technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality, giving rise to a new kind of internet known as the Metaverse. At its heart, the Metaverse is a shared digital space where people can interact with each other and with computer-generated avatars and objects. This new internet presents a massive opportunity for businesses, who can use it to create immersive brand experiences that forge deeper connections with their customers,” added Sankarabaaham. Nevertheless, succeeding in the Metaverse will require a new approach to marketing that blends traditional marketing techniques with the latest digital technologies. Digital marketing is constantly evolving. What was once considered cutting-edge quickly becomes replaced by something new and innovative. To stay ahead of the curve, businesses must focus on collecting customer data and utilizing it to create targeted marketing campaigns. Additionally, they need to be prepared for the rise of the Metaverse and the move towards a Web 3.0 world powered by blockchain technology.

Best Anti-Snoring Devices: Top Mouthpieces And Mouthguards Of 2022 Outlook India
Best Anti-Snoring Devices: Top Mouthpieces And Mouthguards Of 2022 Outlook India
Best Anti-Snoring Devices: Top Mouthpieces And Mouthguards Of 2022 – Outlook India https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/best-anti-snoring-devices-top-mouthpieces-and-mouthguards-of-2022-outlook-india/ Snorers frequently find relief by utilizing snoring mouthpieces. These devices, often known as mouthguards, are classified into two types. Mandibular advancement devices, or MADs, are small devices that fit within the mouth and thrust forward the lower jaw, expanding the airway.  This article summarizes the findings on each of the finest anti-snoring devices chosen. Scroll down to read the in-depth guide for more general information on anti-snoring gadgets. Different varieties of anti-snoring devices are discussed, as well as how they work, their benefits and drawbacks. 1. AirSnore The AirSnore Mouthpiece is an anti-snoring gadget in the MAD style. It is made up of two layers: a rigid outer plastic layer and a moldable inner layer. Both materials are of the highest quality. The device is available in a single universal size. On the other hand, the soft inner layer may be boiled in water and molded to provide a tailored fit, a technique known as boil-and-bite. This mouthpiece can be adjusted as many times as needed.  Its customizable design makes it a good solution for most sleepers wanting to eliminate snoring. If people have dentures or other dental implants, they should visit their dentist before using AirSnore. In addition, the device comes with generous customer service policies, such as free delivery and a 60-day trial period. Price: $49.95 Suitable For ●    Heavy snorers ●    People who want a personalized fit  Features  ●    Adjustable fit  ●    BPA and latex in this product.  ●    Free shipping with a two-month trial period.    2. VitalSleep  For a MAD, the VitalSleep provides above-average customization. The top and bottom of this mouthpiece are padded with flexible thermoplastic material, indicating that it is a boil-and-bite mouthpiece. Boil the MAD in hot water for a few minutes, then bite into the thermoplastic to leave an impression. This ensures that the VitalSleep will conform to the specific curves of the teeth and gums.  The VitalSleep can be modified in 1mm increments up to 8mm in addition to the precise mold. This allows most people to utilize the device comfortably, regardless of how their lower jaw is structured. A little tool is included to adjust the lower tray and forward the jaw, allowing the snorer’s airway to expand for better breathing. The mouthpiece is available in one universal size from VitalSleep. The device is hypoallergenic and free of latex and bisphenol A (BPA) materials.  VitalSleep is attractively priced and less expensive than the usual MAD. The device comes with a 60-night sleep trial and a two-year warranty. In comparison, most competitor MADs have shorter sleep trials and no warranty coverage. Price: $70 Suitable For: ●    People who prefer to use a mandibular advancement device ●    Those looking for a customized mouthpiece while sleeping  ●    Those whose jaw positioning preferences change from one night to the next  Features:  ●    Adjustable from 1mm to 8mm in 1mm increments  ●    Customization of the boil-and-bite  ●    Purchase includes a free adjustment tool.  3. Snorple  Snorple is a simple device that pushes the jaw forward without moving the tongue, basically completing the duties of a MAD and TRD simultaneously. The appliance’s simple boil-and-bite design allows it to be fully customized to accommodate most adults, including those with underbites or overbites. If the first impression isn’t exactly right, users can manually tweak the gadget with a selection of 15 different settings, and they can boil again.  The device also holds the tongue in place and prevents it from slipping back into the throat, which is a typical cause of snoring, especially for back sleepers. If people have breathing problems while wearing TRD mouthguards, they can adjust or remove these bumpers.  To ensure optimum hygiene, the Snorple is simple to clean. Most of these mouthguards last 3 to 4 months before needing to be replaced. The appliance BPA and latex-free.  Each purchase includes a storage case. Unused devices can be returned within 30 days after the order date. Price: $90 Suitable For: ●    Snorers looking for a simple device.  ●    Snorers seeking a mouthguard that incorporates MAD and TRD designs  ●    Individuals with overbites or underbites  Highlights:  ●    Adaptable boil-and-bite device  ●    If the sleeper experiences breathing difficulties, the device can be adjusted ●    Available in five different colors.  4. SnoreMeds  Fully personalized mouthpieces can be pricey, but SnoreMeds is a more reasonable option for budget-conscious shoppers. A typical boil-and-bite mandibular advancement device is used (MAD). Immerse the mouthpiece in water until the inner padding softens, then insert it into the mouth and bite down to create a dental imprint. The website has detailed instructions for this procedure.  Regular and small fit mouthpieces are available, and both may be adjusted similarly. The mouthpiece is constructed of thermoplastic and has neither BPA nor latex. If users wear dentures or are under the age of 16, they should not use the gadget.  All purchases come with a “fitment spatula” for use during the molding process and a carrying case to keep the mouthpiece clean while not in use. The company recommends that the device should be replaced every four months. All orders come with a 45-day trial period. Price: $47 Suitable For: ●    Snorers looking for a custom-molded anti-snoring mouthpiece.  ●    Those who prefer the feel of a mandibular advancement device while sleeping  ●    Seekers of value  Features: ●    Available in small and normal sizes.  ●    Adaptable boil-and-bite design  ●    Up to four mouthpieces are included in discounted bundles.  What To Look For In An Anti-Snoring Device ●     Type People can try a variety of anti-snoring gadgets. Nose strips are simple to use because all you have to do is slap them on and go to bed. If the nasal passage is congested or obstructed, this simple remedy will work wonders. However, if snoring is caused by something else, this may not be the best remedy.  Mouthpieces are also used to treat snoring, albeit they are extremely painful. This over-the-counter technique involves moving the jaw to assist in widening the air gap. This opens up the airway while decreasing vibration in the throat tissues.  Silicone clips mix with magnets and are placed on the septum. This device also works to open the nasal passage, allowing people to breathe more easily.  Nasal vents or dilators are another inexpensive and effective method of reducing snoring. They are put into the nostrils to open up the airway.  ●    Safety  Whatever material the snoring device is composed of, examine the package and the label for any potential warnings. Medical-grade silicone is perfect.  ●    Reusability  Most of the items on this list can be reused. Investing in a good anti-snoring device is beneficial for snorers and their families. All of the remedies on this list serve to open the respiratory airways, allowing people to breathe freely and, as a result, reducing snoring. With so many options, people can choose what is most comfortable for them. Who Should Think About Using an Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece?  Snoring has no cure. However, the best snoring solutions will considerably lessen symptoms. An anti-snoring mouthpiece can help many snorers. Snoring is a persistent – if not nightly – concern for more than one-third of these sleepers.  It is usually caused by a restriction in the airflow through the breathing passages. This can happen for a variety of reasons. A thick or low-hanging palate narrows down the airway, increasing the likelihood of snoring. Snoring can also be caused by chronic nasal congestion and other nasal issues. Being overweight or obese can also cause excess tissue to build up around the airway.  Alcohol is another common cause of snoring. Drinking alcohol before going to bed relaxes the throat, causing the tongue to slip back into the throat and obstruct the airway. Being too weary or sleep-deprived may also cause the throat muscles to loosen. Furthermore, resting on the back puts people at risk of snoring since the tongue is more likely to clog the airway.  Chronic snoring can lead to other difficulties over time. Daytime sleepiness and exhaustion, mood swings and furious outbursts, difficulties focusing on duties, and an increased risk of getting involved in a vehicular or industrial accident are all symptoms. MAD and TRD mouthpieces can reduce snoring episodes on a nightly basis for persons with non-apnea-related snoring disorders. These devices are far less expensive than upper airway surgery and other medical procedures used to treat snoring.  While anti-snoring mouthpieces and mouthguards are successful for many people , they are not suitable for everyone. Some people find these gadgets irritating, even painful at times. They may also be unsuccessful in treating severe snoring caused by disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea. How Do Anti-Snoring Mouthpieces Work? Despite its success in preventing snoring for many people, anti-snoring mouthpieces are relatively simple devices with a small number of individual elements. They function differently depending on whether the mouthpiece is a MAD or a TRD.  The most prevalent type of anti-snoring mouthpiece is the MAD. The top and lower trays, where the teeth are supposed to fit, are usually made of thermoplastic material. The hot water softens the thermoplastic so that users can bite into the upper and lower teeth trays to create a mold. This procedure should be followed unless other directions are given by the manufacturer. Try on the mouthpiece before boiling by gently biting down on the thermoplastic in the upper and...

Former Revolut Employees Launch Solvo, An App That Simplifies Crypto Investing – Yahoo Finance https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/former-revolut-employees-launch-solvo-an-app-that-simplifies-crypto-investing-yahoo-finance/ Meet Solvo, a new mobile app that wants to make it easier to invest in cryptocurrencies and cryptocurrency-related financial products. The two founders Ayelen Denovitzer and Shailendra Sason met while they were working for Revolut, in the crypto team more specifically. Earlier this year, Solvo raised a $3.5 million seed round from Index Ventures with CoinFund and FJ Labs also participating. Since then, the company has put together a small team of 10 people and started working on its iOS app. The main thesis behind Solvo is that cryptocurrencies are still too complex. If you want to buy crypto assets, chances are you don’t know where to start because there are thousands of different tokens. While you may have heard about DeFi (decentralized finance) and the ability to generate yield, accessing those products is even more complicated. When Solvo releases its app in October, users will be able to buy and sell tokens (obviously). But Solvo has picked 10 cryptocurrencies so that you don’t get lost in an endless list. You can also deposit and withdraw tokens from Solvo. The startup is also taking advantage of staking or DeFi products that generate yield by contributing to liquidity pools. This way, Solvo customers earn interests when they move their crypto assets to what the company calls ‘Vaults’. For instance, the startup plans to offer Solana and Cardano Vaults. Hiding the complexity is an interesting strategy as Solvo can take a cut of earnings from Vaults. As long as customers still earn some interests, the product is working as expected. Finally, Solvo also lets you invest in Bundles. It lets you invest in multiple projects and tokens in a single transaction. Essentially, it works like those popular tokenized baskets, such as the DeFi Pulse Index or the Metaverse Index. “Investing with Solvo will be simple, easy and understandable – three words not associated with crypto. Solvo is meeting a clear need for investors today, offering products that are focused on high quality assets, that provide diverse exposure and reduced risk as well as an attractive yield. It is for all the investors who want to use crypto to diversify their investments and want an easy way to do that,” co-founder and CEO Ayelen Denovitzer said in a statement. In many ways, Coinbase originally positioned itself as the easiest way to get started with crypto. But the company has launched many different products over the years, including derivatives and support for 225 cryptocurrencies. Let’s see if Solvo can fill that gap in the market.

U.S. South Korea Are Working To rectify The Problems On EV Subsidies South Korea Trade Minister Says CNBC
U.S., South Korea Are Working To ‘rectify The Problems’ On EV Subsidies, South Korea Trade Minister Says – CNBC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-south-korea-are-working-to-rectify-the-problems-on-ev-subsidies-south-korea-trade-minister-says-cnbc/ South Korean and U.S. officials are working toward a “concrete proposal” to resolve their differences over electric vehicle subsidies, South Korea’s trade minister told CNBC. “We’ve established a specific dialogue channel to address this particular issue, and we are glad that the U.S. government wholeheartedly engaged with us to rectify the problems,” Ahn Duk-geun told CNBC’s Chery Kang on Wednesday. He was referring to concerns over EV subsidies that would put South Korean automakers at a disadvantage, with some South Korean officials calling the move a “betrayal” of the bilateral trust between the two countries. The $430 billion climate and energy bill, or the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), was signed into law by President Joe Biden in mid-August. It includes federal tax credits offering consumers up to $7,500 in credit for those purchasing new electric vehicles assembled in the U.S. – and those purchasing cars made by foreign carmakers like Kia and Hyundai will not be eligible. Hyundai is the second-biggest EV sellers in the U.S. after Tesla. U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol met in Seoul to discuss bilateral relations after officials from two countries engaged in talks regarding the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes a provision that Seoul claims could hurt South Korea’s automakers. SeongJoon Cho | Bloomberg | Getty Images “We are disappointed to see in particular this provision [was] included in the IRA without much prior consultations,” Ahn said, adding the South Korean government is preparing for “all possibilities,” including proposing legislative amendments to Washington. His comment were not as strong as the heated rhetoric from Seoul officials in recent weeks. Kamala Harris in Seoul U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris was in Seoul on Thursday where she met South Korea’s President Yoon Seok-yeol, to discuss the concerns faced by South Korean automakers. A White House readout following the two leaders’ meeting said the U.S. vice president understood the raised concerns and that both pledged to “continue to consult” on the matter. Yoon’s office cited Harris as saying she would “look into ways to relieve South Korea’s concerns in the process of enforcing the law,” according to a statement on the same meeting. Breach of WTO rules? South Korean and European officials have said the tax credit provisions in the IRA are a breach of rules under the World Trade Organization, Reuters reported. We are disappointed to see in particular this provision [was] included in the IRA without much prior consultations. Ahn Duk-geun trade minister, South Korea South Korea’s industry ministry confirmed with CNBC that Seoul will be reviewing whether to file a formal complaint to the WTO over such concerns. Last week, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, which represents workers from South Korean domestic companies including Kia and Hyundai, slammed the U.S. measures as “unilateral” and “U.S.-centric,” and said they could worsen the uncertainties surrounding the current state of the global economy. China is ‘important trading partner’ Ahn noted that South Korea’s export-reliant economy is indeed “experiencing the decoupling phenomenon” as a result of heightened U.S.-China trade tensions. He did not elaborate further. South Korea is facing a continued trade deficit problem due to a rise in energy prices, and that Beijing holds a strategically significant role for the country, he added. “China is still [a] very important trading partner of Korea,” Ahn said. “I think the stabilization of this trade relationship will play a very important role to secure the global supply in these turbulent and uncertain economic circumstances.”

The Impact Of COVID-19 On The Behaviors And Attitudes Of Children And Adolescents: A Cross-Sectional Study Cureus
The Impact Of COVID-19 On The Behaviors And Attitudes Of Children And Adolescents: A Cross-Sectional Study Cureus
The Impact Of COVID-19 On The Behaviors And Attitudes Of Children And Adolescents: A Cross-Sectional Study – Cureus https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-impact-of-covid-19-on-the-behaviors-and-attitudes-of-children-and-adolescents-a-cross-sectional-study-cureus/ Background and objective Over the past few decades, new infectious diseases have emerged, and these have played a key role in changing behavior and lifestyle in all age groups. More recently, with the emergence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, governments around the world have made unprecedented efforts to contain the epidemic by implementing quarantine measures, social distancing, and isolating infected individuals. Social behavioral adaptations (e.g., social distancing, isolation, etc.) impact children’s and adolescents’ lifestyle activities and lead to increased incidence of psychosocial problems, worsening of preexisting mental illness, and fears of infection, uncertainty, isolation, and stress. In light of this, this study aimed to assess the impact of COVID-19 on the behaviors and lifestyles of the children and adolescent population of Pakistan. Methodology A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 323 children and adolescents by targeting parents of children and adolescents in the age group of 4-18 years living in Pakistan. The study was conducted from April 2021 to September 2021. A well-designed structured questionnaire was used to collect data about the sociodemographic profile, attitudes, and behavioral factors impacted by COVID-19 in children and adolescents. SPSS Statistics version 23 (IBM, Armonk, NY) was used to enter and analyze data. Results Parents or caregivers of a total of 189 male and 134 female children aged between four and 18 years took part in this study. During COVID-19, the consumption of fast food and fried foods by children and adolescents increased significantly. In this study, out of 323 participants, almost all (289, 89.5%) had increased their screen time significantly. Nearly half of the total individuals experienced the feeling of depression and loneliness during the pandemic. Additionally, some children and adolescents felt fearful when leaving home. COVID-19 lockdowns have led to many changes in children’s and adolescents’ lifestyle habits. They reduced physical contact with others due to the fear of transmission of COVID-19. Based on our findings, the pandemic and its containment strategies have adversely affected the behaviors, lifestyles, and attitudes of children and adolescents. Conclusion Governments around the world have imposed social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to adverse short-term and long-term negative mental health issues such as unhappiness, fear, worry, irritability, depressive symptoms, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Interventions are needed to focus on building resilience in children and adolescents, addressing their fears and concerns through better communication, encouraging routine and physical activity, and taking measures to alleviate loneliness. Introduction Human behavior represents the latent and expressive capacity of various physiological, psychological, and social activities at all stages of human life; however, the earlier the habits are formed, the more likely they are to take root and flourish [1]. Over the past few decades, new infectious diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), zika, and, more recently, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have emerged [2]. As of May 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic has infected more than 164 million people in more than 200 countries around the world and caused more than 3,881,091 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). As a result, governments around the world have made unprecedented efforts to contain the epidemic by implementing quarantine measures, social distancing, and isolating infected individuals [3]. By the end of April 2020, an estimated 1.5 billion children (aged 5-12 years) and adolescents (aged 13-17 years) worldwide had switched to distance learning following school closures. School closures and additional social behavioral adaptations (e.g., social distancing, isolation, etc.) impacted children’s and adolescents’ lifestyles and activities [4]. Preliminary evidence of deep concern suggests that social restrictions needed to reduce the spread of COVID-19 have increased sedentary behavior, disrupted sleep patterns, and caused changes in lifestyles at home and outside, especially among children and adolescents [5]. A study in China found that only 17% of children achieved adequate levels of physical activity, and 66% of them were rated “inactive” during the pandemic. Canadian children reported a similar decline in physical activity [6]. The available evidence shows that 43.5% of Polish respondents said that they ate more during quarantine, and 51.8% admitted to eating snacks more frequently between meals [7]. A multicontinental survey of adolescents (n=1,047) showed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, daily sitting time increased by 28.6% and the frequency and duration of physical activity decreased by 24% and 33.5%, respectively [8]. Obese children have decreased their exercise time and increased screen and sleep time during the COVID-19-associated lockdowns [9]. The two key pillars of human civilization – social interaction and structured schedules – have been distorted by the pandemic, which has led to significant psychological effects on children and adolescents. The increased incidence of psychosocial problems, worsening of preexisting mental illnesses, and fears of infection, uncertainty, isolation, stress, and mass panic have all significantly increased due to the ongoing pandemic [10]. Materials & Methods A web-based survey was conducted targeting the parents of children and adolescents aged 4-18 years. The data were collected from April 2021 to September 2021. An informed written consent form was developed in the English language describing the objectives of this research, and IRB approval from the Ethical Review Board of General Hospital, Lahore (00/89/20) was obtained before the data collection. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was adopted for this research. A nonprobability, convenience sampling method was used for data collection. The Raosoft sample size calculator was used to estimate the sample size; maintaining a 5% margin of error, a 95% confidence level, and a prevalence of 31.3%, the minimum sample size of 250 was determined. We, however, conducted our study on 323 children. Parents of children and adolescents (aged 4-18 years) living in Pakistan presenting at the speech therapy clinic of our hospital were included in the study, while those who denied consent were excluded. A standardized electronic questionnaire including queries about the sociodemographic profile, changes in eating style and behavior, changes in physical activities and screen time, lifestyle changes, and disturbances in sleep and mental health were used to collect data through a web-based survey using Google Forms. Data were entered into the SPSS Statistics version 23 (IBM, Armonk, NY). The data were coded and refined for further analysis. Results were presented in the form of frequency tables and bar/pie charts of different variables representing the research topic, and quantitative values were presented as means and standard deviations. Results Sociodemographic factors Parents of 323 children participated in this online survey. The mean age of the children was 11.2 years, with a standard deviation of ±4.2. Among them, 38.4% were between the ages of three to nine years and the rest were between the ages of 10-19; 41.5% (n=134) were females and 58.5% (n=189) were males; 58.2% (n=188) were dwelling in the metropolitan city while 41.8% (n=135) lived in small cities. The demographic factors are presented in Table 1. Here Is The Latest Big Ten Conference Sports News From The Associated Press – Beckley Register-Herald https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/here-is-the-latest-big-ten-conference-sports-news-from-the-associated-press-beckley-register-herald/ ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — The administrators who’ve been given the task of expanding the College Football Playoff from four to 12 teams left their latest in-person meetings outside Chicago with the biggest question unanswered: How soon? The CFP management committee is scheduled to convene again Oct. 20 in Dallas. The members expect to get some work done before then by video conference. But whether the logistical hurdles can be cleared to implement a new format as soon as 2024 is unclear. The playoff will definitely expand by 2026, but the management committee has been tasked with trying to flip the format for the 2024 and ’25 seasons. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Illinois’ Bret Bielema wants to keep the focus off himself as the former Wisconsin coach returns to Camp Randall Stadium with an opposing team for the first time since his surprising exit a decade ago. Bielema posted a 68-24 record at Wisconsin from 2006-12 before leaving to take over Arkansas’ program at the end of the 2012 regular season as the Badgers were preparing to play in the Rose Bowl. Bielema’s departure caused hard feelings among Wisconsin’s fan base that might become apparent Saturday when the Fighting Illini visit the Badgers. UNDATED (AP) — For a few ranked teams, the first month of the season was all about home sweet home. No. 4 Michigan, No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 15 Washington will play their first road games of the season this weekend. The Cowboys have a big one against Big 12 rival and No. 16 Baylor. The Wolverines and Huskies face unranked but potentially formidable conference foes in the year’s first road trips. Michigan goes to Iowa and Washington faces UCLA on a short week. Their first road tests are among this week’s five most intriguing games. EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern unveiled plans to build a new Ryan Field and replace the current 97-year-old football stadium with a state-of-the-art facility featuring a reduced seating capacity and greater emphasis on the fan experience. The school said the stadium would seat 35,000, down more than 12,000 from the current Ryan Field, and feature a canopy designed to keep noise and light focused on the field. It would include cutting-edge technology and scoreboards, as well as concessions with food from local restaurants. Northwestern said the stadium would achieve Gold LEED certification, and “set a new standard” for accessibility. The plan calls for plazas outside, a community park and other green spaces. Northwestern said it is also considering hosting “a limited number” of concerts. UNDATED (AP) — The early portion of the season hasn’t exactly gone smoothly for the Big Ten. No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan, No. 11. Penn St. and No. 21. Minnesota are all 4-0 with some impressive nonconference wins. It has been a bit dicey for the rest of the conference.  It’s fair to wonder if the top teams might be in for some headaches late in the year. After all, strength of schedule could come into play if they are jockeying for College Football Playoff berths and spots in New Year’s Six bowls. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State announced that beer will be available for sale to the general public at Beaver Stadium beginning Saturday when the Nittany Lions host Northwestern. Penn State becomes the ninth Big Ten school to sell beer to the general public at football games. The ones that don’t are Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Beer will be sold in all areas of the stadium, except near the student section. Fans can buy two cans of beer at one time, and sales will stop at the end of the third quarter. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is getting creative with a deep unit that’s built to create game-changing plays. So far, nearly 30 players have rotated in and out of a unit that’s fourth nationally in turnover margin at plus-8. Diaz’s defense has recovered five fumbles and picked off four passes and the Nittany Lions lead the country with 41 pass breakups, 16 more than second-place Illinois. Eleventh-ranked Penn State will put its solid defensive foundation to the test when it faces Big Ten rival Northwestern on Saturday. COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Maryland lost 34-27 to No. 4 Michigan. But there was a lot of progress in that defeat for a program that’s been average at best by Big Ten standards. This was against a team the Terrapins lost to by 41 points last year. This time they had the ball and a chance to tie the game with 6:28 remaining. Now Maryland needs to use October to build on that progress. The Terps face Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana and Northwestern. Those are all winnable games, and three of them are at home. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Three weeks ago, before the U.S. central bank raised interest rates a hawkish 75 basis points, before bond yields rose to 15-year highs and the British pound tanked, before the Dow Jones Industrial Average sank into bear market territory, Russia escalated its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the prospects of a severe global recession increased exponentially, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization was trading above $19,000. On Wednesday, BTC was still trading comfortably above $19,000, up more than 4% over the past 24 hours and seemingly impervious to the increasingly volatile macroeconomic environment. How long bitcoin holds above this threshold remains uncertain as is its previously considered role as an inflation hedge. “There are a few things that we don’t know,” Defiance ETFs co-founder and CEO Sylvia Jablonski told CoinDesk TV’s First Mover program. “We thought crypto would be this great inflation hedge. It would be the new gold and that didn’t play out. It turned out crypto was highly correlated with equities, particularly with high growth stocks, Nasdaq.” Ether showed similar toughness as it hovered near $1,340, up nearly 5% from a day earlier. Other major cryptos spent the day solidly in the green with BNB and XRP recently up close to 5% and 4%, respectively, although the CoinDesk Market Index (CMI), a broad-based market index that measures performance across a basket of cryptocurrencies, was roughly flat. Still, crypto price gains tracked equity indexes yet again with the tech-heavy Nasdaq, S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) all closing up about 2%. The S&P and DJIA had plummeted the previous six days with the latter falling into bear market territory, meaning that it is down at least 20% from its previous peak. Asian indexes were largely up in early Thursday trading with the Hang Seng recently rising about 1.8%. Investors seemed buoyed by the Bank of England (BOE) announcement that would it would purchase U.K. government bonds to address a liquidity crunch in the market. The move also spurred hopes that other central banks might soon abandon their current aggressive monetary policies through which they hope to tame inflation. Early in the day, BOE Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe told an audience at the Operations, Post Trade, Technology and Innovation Conference in London that financial regulations should be extended to crypto before the industry becomes large enough to potentially threaten broader financial stability. Cunliffe has previously said that regulators should accelerate efforts to establish clear rules for crypto. And in the ongoing saga of Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon, the company said South Korean prosecutors overextended their authority in seeking a warrant for his arrest, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, citing a statement sent by Terraform. Defiance ETFs’ Jablonski said that cryptos current pricing may offer a buying opportunity, albeit long-term. “I’m definitely feeling the headwinds in my face every time I turn on the news on a daily basis, but…crypto has been oversold since August.” She added: “It’s not a buying opportunity if you’re looking for returns in the next two months. But if you have a holding period of 12, 18 months out, I’m more than happy to dip in here. I’m going to be very happy in a couple of years, and I’m going to feel a lot of pain if I look at it on a daily basis.” Biggest Gainers Biggest Losers Why Is the Dollar Crushing Global Currencies if Inflation Is so Bad? While the declining domestic buying power of a dollar dominates headlines in the United States, American inflation is having a surprising impact around the globe: Nearly every major currency has fallen dramatically against the dollar over the past six months. That seems like a challenge to the relentless focus on monetary supply that is widespread among cryptocurrency adherents. China’s yuan has lost 12% against the dollar since April, and traditionally stronger currencies including the euro and yen have seen similar drops. Controversial financial decisions by new U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss have driven the British pound down even more sharply in recent days, for a cumulative 18% drop since April. These moves may be particularly surprising for those whose financial thinking has been shaped by discussions in cryptocurrency circles. You might argue the tail has wagged the dog on crypto’s understanding of inflation: Bitcoin’s fixed supply has been aggressively marketed as a long-term inflation hedge, leading to an emphasis on so-called monetary inflation. Monetary inflation occurs when more monetary units compete for the same amount of real-world goods, driving prices up. Or, as a coronavirus pandemic-era meme elegantly simplified it, “money printer go brrrrr.” But if the money supply were the beginning and end of the American inflation story, the dollar should be losing value against world currencies. The U.S., after all, had the second-largest fiscal response to the COVID-19 crisis of any industrialized nation, much of it debt financed. But if America has been borrowing and printing more money than Japan or China, shouldn’t the yen and yuan be gaining relative value on global markets?…. U.S. Vice Pres. Vows To Defend South Korea After North Korean Missile Tests – Kyodo News Plus https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-vice-pres-vows-to-defend-south-korea-after-north-korean-missile-tests-kyodo-news-plus/ U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday visited the Demilitarized Zone dividing the two Koreas a day after Pyongyang test-fired ballistic missiles, in a show of Washington’s commitment to the defense of the South. Before winding up her four-day trip to Japan and South Korea with the visit to the zone, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Harris denounced North Korea for its flurry of missile tests. During their talks, Harris said the long-standing alliance is “a linchpin of security and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific.” Yoon, who also described the alliance as a linchpin that defends the freedom of Koreans, said he will do his “utmost to further strengthen” the relationship. They condemned North Korea’s “provocative nuclear rhetoric and ballistic missile launches, in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions, and they discussed our response to potential future provocations, including through trilateral cooperation with Japan,” according to the White House. (Pool photo)(Kyodo) Harris’ one-day visit to South Korea, her first to the country since becoming vice president, comes on the heels of North Korea’s firing of two short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea off its east coast that followed a launch Sunday, amid concern that Pyongyang may conduct its seventh nuclear test and first since September 2017. The launches, continuing a record pace of missile testing by North Korea this year, were carried out after a U.S. aircraft carrier and its strike group arrived in South Korea for the countries’ first joint naval exercise near the Korean Peninsula in five years. Japan said it would join the naval exercise on Friday. According to the country’s Maritime Self-Defense Force, it will be the first trilateral drill in waters around Japan since December 2017, when North Korea was also conducting a series of ballistic missile tests. According to South Korea’s Defense Ministry, the trilateral drill, involving the aircraft carrier and a number of warships, will be commanded by the United States and focus on “detecting, identifying and tracking” submarines. The last U.S. vice president to visit the DMZ was Mike Pence in 2017, two years before then President Donald Trump went to the zone to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. During his 85-minute talks with Harris, in addition to North Korea, Yoon, who assumed office in May, discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including in the area of economic security, South Korea’s presidential office spokesman Lee Jae Myung told reporters. Yoon also touched on the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act and conveyed South Korean automakers’ concern that it could exclude them from tax incentives available only for electric vehicles assembled in North America, according to Lee.
