The US markets ended in the negative territory on Friday. “The global macro construct is not favourable for equity markets in the short run. The dollar index above 113 and the US 10-year yield at 3.73 per cent is likely to aggravate FPI outflows which have been gathering momentum during the last three days. “The probability of a global recession is also increasing since the US Fed continues to be ultra hawkish,” V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said. On Friday, the BSE benchmark had tanked 1,020.80 points or 1.73 per cent to settle at 58,098.92 points. The Nifty had plummeted 302.45 points or 1.72 per cent to end at 17,327.35 points. Meanwhile, the international oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.59 per cent to USD 85.64 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors offloaded shares worth a net Rs 2,899.68 crore on Friday, according to data available with BSE. “Although India is seen as a bright spot in times of global slowdown concerns, domestic markets will not be completely insulated from overseas turmoil and would continue to see bouts of intra-day volatility,” Prashanth Tapse, Research Analyst, Senior VP (Research) at Mehta Equities Ltd, said. Study: Women With Healthy Lifestyle Can Reduce Risk Of Developing Type 2 Diabetes The Siasat Daily
Study: Women With Healthy Lifestyle Can Reduce Risk Of Developing Type 2 Diabetes The Siasat Daily
Study: Women With Healthy Lifestyle Can Reduce Risk Of Developing Type 2 Diabetes – The Siasat Daily https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/study-women-with-healthy-lifestyle-can-reduce-risk-of-developing-type-2-diabetes-the-siasat-daily/ Washington: Researchers found that women who have a history of diabetes during pregnancy can still reduce their risk of developing it by living a healthy lifestyle that includes eating well, quitting smoking, exercising frequently, and not being overweight. The results show that women who adhered to five key lifestyle factors – healthy weight, high-quality diet, regular physical activity, moderate alcohol consumption, and not smoking – had a 90% lower risk of the disorder compared with women who did not adhere to any, even among those who were overweight or obese, or were at greater genetic risk of type 2 diabetes. It’s widely known that a healthy lifestyle is associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes in generally healthy middle-aged populations. But less is known about whether this also applies to high-risk women with a history of diabetes in pregnancy (gestational diabetes), and if obesity status or genetic risk of type 2 diabetes influence this association. To fill in these research gaps, researchers evaluated the associations of adherence to optimal levels of five modifiable risk factors – healthy body mass index, high-quality diet, regular physical activity, moderate alcohol consumption, and not smoking, with the risk of developing type 2 diabetes among these women at high risk. Their findings are based on data for 4,275 women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus from the Nurses’ Health Study II with repeated measurements of weight and lifestyle factors over 28 years of follow-up. The researchers also assessed whether these associations changed according to obesity status or underlying genetic susceptibility for type 2 diabetes. Over an average of 28 years of follow-up, 924 women developed type 2 diabetes. After taking into account other major diabetes risk factors, the researchers found that participants who had optimal levels of all five modifiable factors after the index pregnancy had a more than 90% lower risk for developing type 2 diabetes compared with those who did not have any. Each additional optimal modifiable factor was associated with an incrementally lower risk of type 2 diabetes. For example, women with one, two, three, four, and five optimal levels of modifiable factors compared with none had a 6%, 39%, 68%, 85%, and 92% lower risk, respectively. And these beneficial associations were consistently seen, even among women who were overweight or obese or who had a higher genetic susceptibility to type 2 diabetes. This is an observational study, so it can’t establish cause, and the researchers acknowledge that the data relied on personal reports, which may have affected accuracy. What’s more, the study included predominantly healthcare professionals of European ancestry, so the results may not apply to individuals of other racial or ethnic groups or socioeconomic groups. However, strengths include use of data from a large study with repeated measurements of health related and behavioural risk factors, which helps to better capture long term lifestyle habits and reduce measurement error and misclassification. As such, the researchers say their study “highlights the important public health opportunity for the prevention of type 2 diabetes in this high-risk population.”

Pirates Fall To Cubs 8-3 As Ortiz Continues Rise Warren Tribune Chronicle
Pirates Fall To Cubs 8-3 As Ortiz Continues Rise Warren Tribune Chronicle
Pirates Fall To Cubs 8-3, As Ortiz Continues Rise – Warren Tribune Chronicle https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/pirates-fall-to-cubs-8-3-as-ortiz-continues-rise-warren-tribune-chronicle/ PITTSBURGH — A year ago, Luis Ortiz was pitching for Single-A Bradenton. A month ago, he was pitching for Double-A Altoona. Two weeks ago, he was pitching for Triple-A Indianapolis. With another tantalizing outing on Sunday, Ortiz’s stock just continues and continues to rise. Ortiz turned in his latest electrifying start in the Pirates’ 8-3 loss to the Cubs on Sunday at PNC Park, striking out a career-high seven batters across 4 2/3 innings. Along the way, he nearly made some history. “I’ve enjoyed it a lot, just being able to go out there and face some really tough lineups and be challenged in certain ways, but at the same time, see that a lot of the hard work that I’ve put in is showing a lot of results,” Ortiz said through team interpreter Mike Gonzalez. “Every day, there’s something to learn. There’s ways to grow and I’m just very excited and grateful for the opportunity.” The 23-year-old was at his most dominant in the second frame, coming within one strike of tossing an immaculate inning. He struck out Nico Hoerner on three pitches. He struck out Franmil Reyes on three pitches. He got two quick strikes on P.J. Higgins and stood one strike away from joining the rare club — a club that the Cubs’ Hayden Wesneski joined just a couple days earlier. “I thought we were going to see two in three days,” said manager Derek Shelton. Higgins ultimately played spoiler by fouling off a slider, setting off a wave of groans for the fans who realized Ortiz had fallen short of the feat. Ortiz, who achieved the feat twice in just 25 days with Altoona earlier this season, promptly finished off Higgins one pitch later, striking him out with an inside 99.6 mph fastball that induced an ugly, defensive half-swing, half-flail. “My focus was just going out there and making sure that I’m attacking the zone and giving the best that I have,” Ortiz said. “That’s always been my mindset. That’s how I’m going to continue forward.” That aggressive mentality has yielded tantalizing results. Through three starts, Ortiz has allowed two earned runs across 15 1/3 innings (1.17 ERA) with 17 strikeouts. Those numbers are already plenty impressive, but the trait that has stood out to Shelton is Ortiz’s cool. Ortiz made his debut in the back half of a doubleheader against the Reds in Cincinnati. Relatively speaking, the environment was pretty lax. The 23-year-old’s second start, by contrast, took place in front of a packed Yankee Stadium with Aaron Judge sitting on 59 home runs. “He’s not scared,” Shelton said prior to Thursday’s game. “Do not take anything away from any big league team because it’s the big leagues, but it’s as much the atmosphere as anything else. It’s a split doubleheader in Cincinnati [versus] Yankee Stadium. Judge is chasing history. He went out there and pitched like every other game. That’s the thing that’s the most exciting to me about him. The way he handled himself. The way he handled himself when he came out. The conversations the next day.” Ortiz may have the opportunity to make at least one more start, if not two more starts, by season’s end. Regardless of how many more outings he makes, he has before him an opportunity to potentially earn more staying power and stake a claim in next year’s rotation. As things stand, the Pirates appear to have three true locks for next year’s Opening Day rotation: Mitch Keller, Roansy Contreras and JT Brubaker. Johan Oviedo, who twirled seven innings of scoreless ball with seven strikeouts on Saturday, projects to be firmly in the mix as well. Should Ortiz keep shoving the rest of the way, he’ll be plenty deserving of consideration for a spot as well. Ortiz stands to benefit from the refinement of a tertiary pitch, as well as the potential addition of a quaternary pitch. Ortiz has almost exclusively thrown four-seam fastballs and sliders in his first three starts, seldom mixing in a show-me changeup. Of the 237 pitches that Ortiz has thrown as a Major Leaguer thus far, only 5.1 percent have been changeups. Ortiz mentioned that he has thrown a sinker in the past, but has yet to throw one at the Major League level. “I think right now we view him as a starter and hopefully he will develop his pitches or add another pitch on top of it,” Shelton said. “The fact that he’s got 100 there, that makes it difficult to generate contact at times and would make him a good backend guy. But the fact is right now he’s a starter. The great thing about guys you develop as starters is, if maybe they don’t have success as starters, then you have the ability to put them in different roles. But right now, we have Ortiz as a starter.” Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

Traders Predict This New Cryptocurrency To 83x By 2024 With Its Use Case – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/traders-predict-this-new-cryptocurrency-to-83x-by-2024-with-its-use-case-cryptonews/ Heading into October expert traders speculate the best crypto to buy right now could be a new coin listing set to launch on a tier one exchange. New Cryptocurrency to Watch OKX exchange – known as OKEx prior to early 2022 – will list Tamadoge (TAMA) on September 27 at 11:00 UTC. OKX will also support TAMA swaps on its cross chain DEX aggregator as of 17:00 UTC – OKX is both a centralized and decentralized exchange, open to worldwide traders. Bullish Case for Tamadoge Tamadoge will be listed at a price of $0.03 with a circulating supply of 1 billion – allocated to its now sold out presale – and a total maximum supply of 2 billion coins. Tamadoge is the play-to-earn (P2E) rewards token and native currency of a new crypto game app, with added move to earn (M2E) features. Alongside other arcade style games, part of its roadmap allows players to walk their NFT dog in an augmented reality metaverse, the ‘Tamaverse’. Our expert traders have compared it to another popular cryptocurrency that exploded earlier this year, STEPN (GMT) – the native token of a M2E app for walkers and joggers. Our analysts reported this month on the Tamadoge presale raising more than the STEPN ICO – which raised $9.2 million – within the space of four weeks. Over the full eight weeks of its token presale, Tamadoge raised $19 million. Following its initial coin offering, GMT went on to achieve a $2.5 billion live market cap at its peak – its bull run lasting from early March (its Binance listing) to late April. In order for TAMA to potentially be the next cryptocurrency to explode to that valuation after its ICO, it would need to increase its live market cap – which will be $30 million at launch – by 83.3x. Deflationary Cryptocurrency Our analysts noted on our ‘is Tamadoge the next GMT‘ analysis piece that unlike STEPN, TAMA is deflationary.  A 5% token burn is applied to all Tamadoge store transactions, the in-game marketplace where players buy items, food and accessories to train and upgrade their Tamadoge pets (represented by dynamic NFTs), all of which have unique strengths, attributes and rarity. In recent weeks Terra Classic showed that crypto investors support assets with some kind of deflation rate – the 1.2% LUNC burn news led to Terra Classic rallying by over 1,400% from its 2022 lows. GMT’s retracement from its April all time high of $4.18 was in part due to GST – the other native token of the STEPN ecosystem, Green Satoshi Token – being inflationary. A Tamadoge prediction via CNBC TV 18 – source Meme Coin Appeal As well as being an app to earn free crypto like STEPN, the Tamadoge app also taps into the mass appeal of meme tokens, its tagline for TAMA being ‘the play to earn Dogecoin‘.  Shiba Inu rose over 50 million percent in its price history, mostly due to retail investor FOMO.  While some criticize meme cryptocurrencies for their lack of utility, they are undeniably the most popular crypto assets alongside Bitcoin itself. DOGE and SHIB are still both in the top 20 cryptos even after a 90% correction, DOGE at #10 and SHIB at #14. STEPN is also currently down over 85% from its top and now has a live market cap of $370 million – which would only be a 12x gain for TAMA to reach, with a similar use case and utility. Having deflationary tokenomics, and the meme crypto aesthetic, make it a strong contender to be one of the top cryptocurrencies after its launch on OKX this Tuesday, through to the next crypto bull run which crypto experts predict will take place around the 2024 Bitcoin halving. New users opening an OKX account via CryptoNews are entered into a prize draw to win a mystery box worth $10,000. Open OKX Account OKX DEX Read Tamadoge Whitepaper

U.S. Slips Down Rankings In Food Security Index Food Safety News
U.S. Slips Down Rankings In Food Security Index Food Safety News
U.S. Slips Down Rankings In Food Security Index – Food Safety News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-slips-down-rankings-in-food-security-index-food-safety-news/ The United States has fallen a few places in the latest rankings of a report that measures food security. The study from Economist Impact put Finland at the top, followed by Ireland, Norway and France. Canada was seventh and the United Kingdom was ninth. The United States dropped to 13th from ninth in the previous edition. The 11th Global Food Security Index (GFSI) covers food affordability, availability, quality and safety, and sustainability and adaptation across 113 countries. Indicators are used to do this and one change to the latest version is considering relevant food safety legislation. Based solely on the quality and safety metric, Canada was first and the United States was third. The UK was 29th. GFSI data for the United States suggests that it needs to improve policy commitments around food security and access by establishing a food security agency and implementing a related strategy. Pratima Singh, principal of policy and insights at Economist Impact, said issues such as the Ukraine conflict and high food prices, are stressing an already fragile food system. “The 2022 Global Food Security Index highlights the crucial impact of structural issues and risks to food security such as volatility in agricultural production, trade and supply-chain disruption, scarcity of natural resources, and increasing economic inequality. Building long-term, systemic resilience should be a priority if the larger trend toward greater food insecurity worldwide is to be reversed.” Climate change impact The least food-secure countries are conflict zones and face severe climate risks. Syria is at the bottom of the list, followed by Haiti and Yemen. A difference between the top performer and the country at the bottom has continued to widen since 2019.  There are big jumps in scores for pest infestation and disease mitigation policies. The index, sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, shows governments are not prepared for the increase in extreme weather like this summer’s heatwaves across Europe and North America and flooding in Pakistan. It found water management techniques and existing irrigation systems that can help manage the effects of climate change are lacking. Increasing food prices, rising global hunger, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine and Russia conflict are also mentioned. There were falls in nutritional standards, such as national nutrition plans and monitoring. About a third of countries have no national nutrition plan or strategy in 2022, nearly double the number that lacked one in 2019. Also, 25 of 113 countries are not regularly monitoring the nutritional status of their population compared with 15 in 2019. Without such work, policymakers cannot identify nutritional deficiencies and deploy resources where needed. (To sign up for a free subscription to Food Safety News, click here.)

Mosquitoes And Mild Waterborne Illness (PNT Pt. 13) The Trek
Mosquitoes And Mild Waterborne Illness (PNT Pt. 13) – The Trek https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/mosquitoes-and-mild-waterborne-illness-pnt-pt-13-the-trek/ Trail map at country highway intersection. To Oroville Back on trail, I wound my way up a climb along a barbed wire fence. The trail led me back through the woods a way before I came out onto paved road and then back onto a series of gravel roads through pastoral land. Plots of wood that still existed in the area had all been scorched fairly recently, a sign at the end of someone’s driveway issuing thanks to the local fire teams for saving the owner’s property. My audiobook came to an end at this point, and I went back to my sporadic listening of Lord of the Rings, at this point on Return of the King. Roadwalk after Highway 20 West. Trespassing is Bad The gravel roads lent to fairly easy travel and a good consistent walking speed. I cut down the slope along a road that seemed to connect the route down an extremely long switchback. The road I took ended up dumping me at the cattle gate at the back of some random persons property, which is always a suspicious position to be in; too many “shoot first, ask questions later,” in Backwoods Everywhere America. I took to shwhacking through the woods around the persons property and army crawling under their barbwire fence along the road. A brief reconnaissance showed a stellar, off-grid set up for a small modernly stylized log cabin, and no car in the drive. There is a vagrant part of me that notes every time I come across an empty house. Big, empty, vacation houses are extremely common in all the areas I travel too, and to me, that is a disgusting and dramatically underexploited resource. Not saying that these homes should be broken into, and beds slept in, no, I have no grit for that level of anarchy, nor do I condone it. However, who is going to be harmed if I sleep under the occasional porch? The Alternate The road out in front of this property turned to pavement, putting me on an alternate route to avoid a devastated burn area that was reportedly difficult to traverse due to deadfall. The slight shortcut down the slope left me several tenths of a mile up the way from a potentially more direct logging road, but I chose not to turn around. Stupidly, I was carrying only about two liters of water and was walking into what was unknowingly about a ten-mile dry stretch. That would not have been a huge deal if it had not been near the end of the day and I was scoping out a campsite out of view of the road. It drove me to push another nine miles, to still dry camp, for much of the road dropped steeply off into a ravine to my right. Uh, Hey Kids The next morning, I came across a decently flowing stream in the gully next to the road. Around the same time, a local middle school cross country team began depositing kids all along the road. They had separated into small groups to practice what might have been a sort of cross-country baton pass. After all the kids left me in the dust, I slid down the slope at the edge of the road to fill up on water. Not the clearest water I remember, but it did the job. Mosquitoes devoured me in the closed off shelter of the trees. The Church Rural Backroad leading out of the alternate. Later on that morning, I came out into actual farmed land, parceled out into colorful plots within the valley. As I came back out onto pavement from between the neat rows of trees lining the path, some of the houses above me were of a rustic Victorian style in nature, vines growing luxuriously up their sides and satellite dishes rusting haphazardly on rooftops. The short neighborhood road leading back into farmsteads, deposited me out onto a country highway. A sign at the intersection and a waypoint on Farout directed me a hundred yards up the road to the local church. At the church bulletin board, I found notes from my friends Renee and Tim who are currently working on the paddle portion of their Pacific Northwest Circuit route. We had been so excited to pass each other, and I missed them by an hour. Inside, the church had microwaveable pizzas and cookies for the hikers, and I charged my phone and messaged Renee and Tim while I waited for my pizza to heat up. It turns out that they took the main route into the burn area instead of the alternate when leaving the church, and very quickly found themselves bushwhacking to the alternate. The margin was just enough for us to miss each other. They left some notes for me later on that I was bummed to miss, but other people told me about. The Rolling Hills and Road Walks There was a decent resupply of some weird, sweet, almond Nature Valley bar in the hiker box, and I stocked up before continuing on. A good portion of the midday stretch was exposed road walking, and despite the heat, the area was beautiful. The yellow grasses of the rolling hillsides were thick with wildflowers, and I admired the shift in terrain. A woman in a USPS Jeep stopped me along the way and asked if I wanted a ride to the other side of the road walk. She told me she had given a girl a ride the year before. I turned her down, of course. By this point I was getting annoyed at hearing about how so many people skip the road walking of the PNT. To each their own, but the church had a little fact sheet posted at the intersection that said four-hundred-thirty-eight miles of the PNT is road walking. A third of the trail is a significant portion to skip. Of course, not everyone obsessive compulsively thruhikes. Bad, Bad, Bad Water Sources The road eventually transitioned back to gravel, delving into a sparse dry wood. Cattle blocked my path and were very upset by my presence. I sat at the turn off back onto trail for a while and watched Tik Toks while I waited for the cows to move. They were freaked out because I had walked into the middle of the herd and once they skirted around past me, they bolted down the trail. Part of my break was to contemplate when to grab water, and I stupidly waited to get on trail water instead of walking a fifth of a mile off trail to a potentially clear source. Someone from a few days before, had left a comment on a waypoint that the water on trail was good. Water comments had been pretty reliable for me so far, especially because it was early in the season and water sources were better than normal. However, on this particular occasion, I got shafted. Not only was the water barely flowing, but it had also been trampled to muck by cows, giving it a stagnant, and delectably yellow tannin tinge. Tasted like shit. Swarmed My meanderings along the trail past that point saw very little elevation change. I was high up already, though the surrounding land was relatively flat around me. Several times the trail dipped into shallow depressions filled with foul, stagnant pools of water, black from tannins. The mosquitoes grew thick, and as tree cover reemerged, the tiny blood suckers became a burden on my sanity. Rarely, do I feel the need to bring out my mosquito head net. I keep it for emergencies, because there is nothing that will ruin your day like swallowing mosquitoes every few minutes from the cloud attacking your head. In fact, it may have become a mild phobia of mine after several truly awful experiences where I was not so well prepared. Even with the head net, the fuckers were tenacious. To keep them at bay I maintained a quick jog for the next three miles. The trail was flat and wide, with little more impediment than the occasional low branch or downed sapling. I kept up the jog until, after descending for a while, a slight pain in the mid-shin of my left leg caused me to slow. It felt like a tendon had swollen across it and a more casual stride seemed a safer approach. The mosquitoes, though still present, had decreased to a more manageable intensity, and having recovered from a pretty intense shin splint in that leg earlier in the year, I felt that I should not tempt fate. The High Desert of Northeast Washington As I continued to descend, I emerged from tree line to find myself in a high desert biome. It reminded me of New Mexico on the CDT, the overabundance of sagebrush making itself known by its unique scent and taste on the air. I can never decide if I like the smell. Though fresh and herbaceous, the scent can be a bit overpowering at times. Overlook view of the Okanogan Valley. At some point I came to an overlook with a breathtaking view of the valley. The river flowing through the high desert left a wake of lush farmland along its banks. Bare mountains framed the bucolic scene, leaving an impression on me, of paintings of vineyards on terraced hills along the Mediterranean. Scenes I have not yet scene in real life. I thought of camping there, though it seemed less than ideal. I had phone service, and yet, I had way too much day light left to stop. Little did I know that there were two hikers I would meet the next day camped down the hill from where I stood. A month traveling alone, and I almost missed them by a hair. To the Highway Out of tree line, getting near Highway 97. The trail eventually turned down a canyon leading into the valley. A stream sped along the flank of the trail, providing water, but renewing and exacerbating the scourge of mosquitoes. The tree line eventually broke, and I came out onto an open grassy hill, the trail, lined with tamarisk, switch-backing down to the edge of a young apple orchard far below. I had put off camping for too long, and now I would have to wander into town and hope for the best. A gravel lot led out to Highway Ninety-Seven. Even in the open air of the road, the mosquitoes swarmed me, and I had to keep my head net on. I got long, mystified stares from people passing by in their cars. Me, being all smug because I’m protected from pesky mosquitoes. No Hope for the Hopeless The sun had set, and I wanted to be in town and in camp as soon as possible. I dreamt about dinner and a cold beve...

Tohoku University Embark On Strategic Alliance To Realize ‘Well-Being Society’ – Fujitsu https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/tohoku-university-embark-on-strategic-alliance-to-realize-well-being-society-fujitsu/ Digital twin technology to accelerate shift towards preventive healthcare Tohoku University, Fujitsu Limited Tokyo and Sendai, September 26, 2022 Fujitsu Limited and Tohoku University today announced the start of a strategic alliance to accelerate the shift towards preventive healthcare and the realization of a ‘Well-being Society’ in which no one will be left behind. Within their joint project, the two parties will cooperate on the development of new technologies including digital twins (1) in healthcare to visualize simulations of the prevention and treatment of diseases and an AI technology to predict the onset and severity of diseases based on healthcare data such as EMRs (2) and PHRs (3). Researchers at Tohoku University Hospital will cooperate with business experts and combine its outstanding knowledge of advanced medical care, research results from its Academic Science Unit (ASU) (4) and its Open Bed Lab (OBL) (5) with Fujitsu’s cutting-edge technologies, R&D capabilities and healthcare infrastructure environment and business know-how including Japan’s top share electronic medical record system provided by Fujitsu Japan (6). Tohoku University and Fujitsu aim to promote initiatives that allow individuals to work towards their own personal health image and to contribute to the realization of a framework where a variety of medical services are provided in an organized way throughout the whole community in order to contribute to the early detection and prevention of frailty spirals (7), a syndrome in which health conditions deteriorate due to a negative cycle caused by a variety of causes such as a lack of physical exercise and malnutrition. This initiative will be demonstrated at the Fujitsu ActivateNow 2022 special session which will be held online by Fujitsu on Tuesday, October 4 (15:35 to 16:35 JST, held in Japanese). Outline of the joint research 1. Development of digital twin technology to optimize decisions and processes As part of their joint research, Tohoku University and Fujitsu will develop digital twin technology to be applied in the following areas: (1) Digital twins to support optimal provision of health services to patients creation of digital twins (virtual images) of patients based on patient medical data and information obtained from diverse test instruments and wearable devices. various real-time data will be collected and added to the digital twin on a daily basis to support doctors in accurately and quickly capturing patients’ symptoms, make decisions about the best treatment, drug regimens, and surgical procedures for each patient. (2) Digital twins to support hospital management integration of hospital staff personnel information, work information, financial information, and the operating status of medical devices (in addition to medical data accumulated in the electronic medical record system) to enable a real-time monitoring of the operating status of hospital beds and future simulations, support the optimization of daily operations and resources of the hospital and improve the utilization of operation rooms and other medical facilities. (3) Digital twins to support health promotion and disease prevention of local residents development of digital twin technology to predict and visualize future health conditions based on medical history, health examination results and daily life habits and provide information to local residents to enable everybody to live a healthy lifestyle in a world of extended life spans. utilization of digital twins in cooperation with local governments and health insurance organizations to encourage local residents to change their behavior towards health promotion and disease prevention and support of the development of systems that contribute to the reduction of national medical expenses. 2. Development of AI model to detect possible diseases Tohoku University and Fujitsu will develop an AI model able to detect even small anomalies that can be indicators for diseases from medical data in order to realize efficient diagnosis support in the medical field. The two parties will apply this AI model to health care data including individual patients’ daily diet and exercise data to inform patients about changes in their health conditions and encourage early health examinations at medical institutions. In developing this AI model, Tohoku University and Fujitsu will leverage medical data accumulated by the Tohoku University Hospital since the start of the predecessor of the electronic medical record system in 1990, advice provided by the hospital’s advanced specialists and business liaison personnel utilizing design thinking to identify needs and create new businesses, as well as Fujitsu’s AI technology. 3. Development of infrastructure and data analytics method for practical data utilization In addition to the development of a new data base for analyzing large amounts of medical data and health examination information that exist in various data formats as well as personal daily lifelogs, the two parties will further develop a new data analysis method for solving social issues by structuring accumulated data into a data format that can be analyzed. By making the established data base available to various healthcare-related companies such as pharmaceutical and insurance companies, Tohoku University and Fujitsu further aim to develop a data circulation type ecosystem that contributes to the creation of new medical services and products and can be used to pass on knowledge gained from these processes to hospitals and individuals. Proactive human resource exchanges and mutual use of R&D facilities to develop new medical services To realize application of the newly developed technologies in real world scenarios, the two parties will promote personnel transfer between Tohoku University and Fujitsu, mutual use of research and development facilities as well as field studies by interns from Tohoku University. Tohoku University and Fujitsu will further promote active usage of Tohoku University Hospital’s ASU to contribute to the development of new medical services based on design thinking. In this way, Fujitsu and Tohoku University aim to create human-centered experiences (experience design) based on diversified individual values that differ from conventional manufacturing approaches that focus on technological improvement and increased performance. The two parties will further nurture next-generation data scientists, AI engineers, and other next-generation human resources with medical knowledge and digital technology skills to realize new innovations in the healthcare field. Future Plans In order to realize its “Tohoku University Vision 2030 (8)” in an ever changing world, Tohoku University will realize a virtuous cycle of “education,” “research,” and “co-creation with society” at a higher level by innovating university management, such as improving productivity through innovation and reforms to create diverse work styles, based on its traditional principles and outstanding education and research. As a university that works together with society, Tohoku University will create new social value and lead reforms that open the way for the future. Fujitsu will work with universities and other educational and research institutions as well as medical institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers to build a digital health ecosystem in which a wide range of data can be effectively linked and used with the latest digital technology to enable the provision of personalized healthcare throughout the entire life cycle. This project will play a role in its vision for Healthy Living, a Key Focus Area under the Fujitsu Uvance portfolio of global solutions to realize a sustainable future. Fujitsu will utilize the results of this joint research in the development of new solution services and platforms that help to realize a ‘Well-being Society,’ with the aim of providing new value to customers from a wide range of areas, including medical institutions, local governments, insurance business, and pharmaceutical companies. Calls Grow For Legal Measures To Protect Minors From Metaverse Sex Crimes – Asianews.network https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/calls-grow-for-legal-measures-to-protect-minors-from-metaverse-sex-crimes-asianews-network/ September 26, 2022 SEOUL – Calls for measures to counter sex crimes in the metaverse are rising with an increasing number of predators targeting teenagers. Huh Kyung-mi, a professor of police administration at Keimyung University, said that legal measures are essential to respond to sexual exploitation in the metaverse in a paper published on Sunday. According to Huh, 70 percent of metaverse service users are teenagers, and criminal attempts on the metaverse platform, especially those that target youthful avatars, has been increasing. Perpetrators lure minors with virtual items and gradually lead the minors into having inappropriate conversations or filming and sending sexual content. Some cases are not even considered illegal under the current law, such as sexual harassment against virtual avatars. In some cases, crimes within the metaverse evolve into crimes in the real world. A man in his 30s who forced 11 minors he met through Zepeto – Asia’s largest metaverse platform operated by Naver Z – to film and send sexually explicit content of themselves for about a year since April 2021 was sentenced to four years in prison on Sept. 11. Amid continuing challenges, both the industry and the government are having difficulties in getting a detailed picture of the situation, as there is no efficient system for receiving reports about such crimes. The Korea Communications Commission and the Ministry of Justice have been trying to analyze metaverse crime issues since early this year. The KCC is conducting a survey to specify the scope of actions that can be interpreted as a crime. The digital sex crime committee under the Justice Ministry commented on the limit of the current law in January, recommending that criminal acts against virtual avatars and personal accounts should be considered no less than criminal acts against real human users. Professor Huh pointed out that the core of the controversy comes from the unfamiliar concept of the metaverse. “In order to curb sex crimes in the metaverse, social consensus on the nature of the metaverse should be made first — whether it is an extension of the real world or not. Discussion on a new legal structure to restrain the metaverse should follow,” said Huh said.

Jihan Wu-Backed Crypto Miner Bitdeer Acquires ‘Singapore’s Fort Knox’ For $28.4 Million – Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/jihan-wu-backed-crypto-miner-bitdeer-acquires-singapores-fort-knox-for-28-4-million-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ Sources have disclosed that the digital currency mining operation, Bitdeer Technologies, has purchased a high-security storage and display facility in Singapore called Le Freeport for $28.4 million. Bitdeer’s chairman, Jihan Wu, confirmed the vault acquisition via a text message following the reports that revealed the mining firm purchased Le Freeport. Bitdeer Purchases Maximum Security Vault Le Freeport From Yves Bouvier, DBS After the co-founder of Bitmain Technologies Jihan Wu left the company, he co-founded a firm called Matrixport and he’s also the chairman of Bitdeer Technologies. According to a report published by Bloomberg, that cites sources familiar with the matter, Bitdeer paid S$40 million ($28.4 million) for the maximum security vault known as Le Freeport. The vault was originally constructed to be similar to the high-security storage vaults located in Luxembourg and Geneva. Freeport has also been dubbed “Singapore’s Fort Knox for fine art and collectibles.” Freeport was originally built for S$100 million and the latest acquisition by Bitdeer paid off a significant amount of debt to creditors like DBS and the vaults former owner Yves Bouvier. Le Freeport Singapore interior. Photo courtesy of SGPMX. The vault has been for sale since 2017, and the high-security storage facility has had a large number of well known corporate clients. Before 2018, the luxury auction house Christie’s once rented more than a third of Freeport’s storage space. Deutsche Bank once leveraged Freeport to house more than $8.9 billion in gold bullion. Bloomberg’s Ranjeetha Pakiam, Chanyaporn Chanjaroen, and Zheping Huang detail that Bouvier and Freeport’s other shareholders “received about S$5 million from the sale.” However, the sources do not disclose what Bitdeer aims to do with the facility, but following the initial report, Jihan Wu confirmed the Freeport purchase with the Bloomberg authors via text. During the last year, Bitdeer has been making a number of business moves like investing $25 million into a facility based in Texas in May 2021. Five days later, Bitdeer announced cloud hosting, which allows “retail miners to generate revenue with 1 mining machine.” At the end of June 2021, Bitdeer revealed the company’s Antbox products and last October, the company introduced Filecoin mining services. The sources who disclosed the latest acquisition of Freeport in Singapore, also detailed that Bitdeer is researching going public through a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) deal via a blank check company. Bitdeer is not the only crypto firm to purchase a high-security vault or bunker system. Xapo’s bunker in the Swiss mountains is just as extravagant and reportedly millionaires stored their bitcoins there. Last week, reports indicated that the bitcoin mining operation Arsenal Digital Holdings (OTCMKTS: ADHI) acquired an underground data center outside Houston. Some people suspect it’s Westland Oil’s infamous two-story subterranean campus fallout bunker. Study Compares Monkeypox PCR Testing Protocols And Efficiency At Two U.S. Reference Labs – News-Medical.Net https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/study-compares-monkeypox-pcr-testing-protocols-and-efficiency-at-two-u-s-reference-labs-news-medical-net/ In a recent study posted to the medRxiv* preprint server, researchers examined sample collection practices, epidemiological characteristics, and cycle threshold (Ct) values for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests used in two reference laboratories in the United States (U.S.) to detect monkeypox virus (MPXV). Study: Clinical Performance and Trends During the First Two Months of Monkeypox Virus PCR Testing at Two United States Reference Labs. Image Credit: Salov Evgeniy / Shutterstock Background The recent outbreak of monkeypox in non-endemic countries such as the U.S. has resulted in increased MPXV PCR diagnostic testing. Monkeypox is caused by a virus in the Orthopoxvirus genus, similar to the smallpox-causing Variola virus. With the almost complete eradication of smallpox, most countries discontinued the smallpox vaccination, leaving gaps in immunity. The substantial decrease in the spread of orthopoxviruses had also resulted in clinicians being unfamiliar with orthopoxvirus infections and fewer diagnostic testing facilities. Before the 2022 outbreak, MPXV testing was carried out only in U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved laboratories or by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Between June and July 2022, laboratory-developed and FDA-authorized testing of monkeypox expanded to clinical laboratories. While clinical and reference laboratories can process substantially higher numbers of cases than public health facilities, and report qualitative test results to the CDC and state health departments, data such as Ct values and test performances are not regularly reported. Monitoring these data can help identify emerging variants and improve testing practices. About the study The present study investigated MPXV PCR testing data from two reference laboratories in the U.S — the University of Washington Virology Lab (UW) in Seattle, Washington, and ARUP Laboratories (ARUP) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The examined data included information for more than 10,000 specimens collected between July and August 2022. Descriptive epidemiological factors such as age and sex distribution in MPXV PCR testing were compared across the two laboratories. Additionally, the researchers examined the average Ct values in both laboratories to compare the viral loads detected in the PCR tests. Finally, the test result concordance was compared using the percentage of patients who submitted multiple swabs. Results The results reported an increase in testing among males aged 18 to 40, considered to be at greater risk of monkeypox. The authors observed that positivity rates decreased with the increase in the number of submitted specimens. They also detected a more significant number of positive test results among males than among females, which is consistent with other study results reporting a higher incidence of monkeypox infections among men who have sex with men. The Ct values between the two reference laboratories were comparable, with ARUP laboratory tests detecting a slightly higher viral load. The collection and extraction methods, however, differed significantly. The Chemagic nucleic acid extractor used by ARUP has higher analytical sensitivity than the viral inactivation and lysis protocol used in UW. The authors believe that the difference in specimen processing and extraction procedures could account for the variation in viral loads from the two laboratories. Collecting multiple swabs from the same individual resulted in an overall test concordance of more than 95%. A very low percentage (less than 1.5%) needed three or more tests for a positive result, and their Ct values were significantly high, indicating a low viral load. Dry swabs suspended in phosphate-buffered saline revealed higher viral loads than swabs in viral transport media (VTM), which the authors attribute to the dilution of the viral load in VTM. According to the authors, while discordant positive results could be due to low viral loads, cross-contamination cannot be ruled out as a reason. The CDC recently released an advisory about the risk of false positives and urged laboratories to test two specimens for results with Ct values greater than 34. Conclusions Overall, the study showed that monitoring MPXV PCR testing factors other than qualitative test results across clinical and reference laboratories is extremely useful in understanding the differences in and improving the processes of diagnostic tests. The authors report that while multiple swabs from one individual do improve the overall test concordance, a considerable portion of PCR testing facilities and resources are used for one individual, which is inefficient in terms of resources and time. Therefore, they instead propose a method of combining multiple swabs from one individual in VTM to improve diagnostic performance while reducing overall costs. *Important notice medRxiv publishes preliminary scientific reports that are not peer-reviewed and, therefore, should not be regarded as conclusive, guide clinical practice/health-related behavior, or treated as established information Journal reference: Clinical Performance and Trends During the First Two Months of Monkeypox Virus PCR Testing at Two United States Reference Labs: Nicole A. Apple Now Manufacturing IPhone 14 In India – Republic World https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/apple-now-manufacturing-iphone-14-in-india-republic-world/  Apple’s newest phone iPhone 14 will be made in India as the global tech titan bets big on the manufacturing prowess of the world’s second-biggest smartphone market after China. Cupertino, California-headquartered Apple started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017 with iPhone SE. Today, Apple manufactures some of its most advanced iPhones in the country including iPhone SE, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and, now, iPhone 14. Earlier this month, Apple Inc unveiled its latest iPhone series — the iPhone 14 models – with an improved camera, powerful sensors and satellite messaging feature to send SOS texts in emergencies. The new lineup has four models: iPhone 14, Plus, Pro and ProMax. According to sources, the Made-in-India iPhone 14 will begin to reach local customers in the next few days. Phones manufactured in India will be both for the Indian market and exports. The iPhone 14 will be shipped from Foxconn’s Sriperumbudur facility on the outskirts of Chennai. Foxconn is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer and major iPhone assembler. When contacted, Apple in a statement to PTI said: “We’re excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India.” The new iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities,” it said. The iPhone 14 was launched on September 7, 2022, and is available to customers in India simultaneously with the US, among other markets, since September 16, 2022. The iconic brand has a long-standing history in India that started more than 20 years ago. Apple launched its online store in the country in September 2020 and is set to deepen its commitment with the upcoming launch of Apple retail store. The recent manufacturing expansion builds on several Apple initiatives in the country, including App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru and programmes with local organisations to support renewable energy training and development for communities. India’s vibrant market is turning out to be the sweetspot for the US tech giant, as the company reported a “near doubling” of revenue in the country in the quarter ended June 2022. Apple CEO Tim Cook, during earnings call in July had said: “We set June quarter records in the Americas, in Europe and the rest of the Asia Pacific region. We also saw June quarter revenue records in both developed and emerging markets, with very strong double-digit growth in Brazil, Indonesia and Vietnam and a near doubling of revenue in India.” A recent report by JP Morgan on `Apple Supply Chain relocation’ predicted that Apple “is likely to move about 5 per cent of iPhone 14 production to India from late 2022 and reach 25 per cent by 2025”. It is also forecast that nearly 25 per cent of all Apple products, will be manufactured outside China by 2025 as compared to five per cent at present. “US-China trade tensions kicked off the production relocation cycle and the search for a `China+1′ manufacturing approach for the Apple supply chain from late 2018,” the report said. COVID-19 put the brakes on this over the last two years, but with pandemic concerns easing, “we have seen more companies in the Apple supply chain re-accelerating supply chain relocation efforts”, the brokerage said in its report. “Supply chain risks (such as COVID-19-related lockdowns in Shanghai/Shenzhen) are likely to be a primary driving force for these moves in the next two to three years,” it added. Southeast and South Asian countries (like India, Vietnam, Thailand) have become preferable locations for geopolitical diversification away from China for Apple food chain vendors, given their lower labor costs, sufficient skilled manpower support and appealing policies and government support, according to JP Morgan analysts. While a booming market for smartphones has added to India’s sheen, New Delhi’s policy push in the electronics sector has nudged large global suppliers to expand in India, and driven new players to set up base.  After tasting success in local smartphone manufacturing, India is moving swiftly to replicate the success with other parts of electronics ecosystem, as it makes solid efforts to cut reliance on imports. The government has unveiled attractive incentives to spur local production and export of telecom and networking equipment as well as IT products, and a Rs 76,000 crore semiconductor scheme was announced late last year to boost local manufacturing of chips and display panels. To attract global giants such as Intel and TSMC, the Centre, last week, sweetened the semiconductor package further by increasing the fiscal support for new facilities (across technology nodes) to cover 50 per cent of project cost. Letters For Sept. 26: Norfolk Needs To Support The Arts By Fixing Its Traffic Problem – The Virginian-Pilot https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/letters-for-sept-26-norfolk-needs-to-support-the-arts-by-fixing-its-traffic-problem-the-virginian-pilot/ Why has parking in the Scope underground lot become such an arduous task when attending either a SevenVenues show or the symphony? I purchase reserved parking so I am guaranteed a place to park, but getting to the entrance to the lot has become a ridiculous and unnecessary anxious drive as you fight with rude drivers blocking intersections and lanes, and not giving way to those with the right-of-way. If there is a hockey game on the same night, the Norfolk police think they are more effective than the traffic signals and block the left turn lane access, creating a huge, unnecessary bottleneck. Why not only allow those with passes into the lane that accesses the parking garage, rather than waiting until you creep up to the driveway only to find the lot is full? Recently, I missed the first 30 minutes of “Wicked” because there was no traffic control at all for a subsequent event at Scope — it took 45 minutes to travel one block to the parking garage. Where were the police that night? What a loss of revenue for all the tickets that could have been handed out to the traffic violators. There is no excuse for this, and it has only gotten worse each season. I should not have to allow two hours for a 20-minute drive. This shows no support for Norfolk’s events. Take a lesson from Virginia Beach: free parking and plenty of it. Nancy Hackney, Virginia Beach Since President Joe Biden has been in office, nearly 5 million people have crossed our southern border illegally, according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform. Stop and think about that for a minute. It’s no wonder that many Americans view what is happening at our border as an invasion. The federal government’s No. 1 responsibility is to protect the states from invasion; it is failing miserably at that. It’s not possible that this is by just incompetence; it is by design. Why would a president risk the well-being of a nation like this? And where is Rep. Elaine Luria in this? Has anyone heard her speak out about this? Nope, not a word. I have to assume she is fine with all this, just as she must be fine with Biden using U.S. Marines as political props in a highly political, partisan speech in Philadelphia. A retired naval officer should be aware of long-standing Department of Defense regulations prohibiting military personnel from being at political events in uniform. Pretty sad, I would think. It’s time so send her back to private life. Viewpoints Weekly The week’s top opinion content and an opportunity to participate in a weekly question on a topic that affects our region. Jim Herbst, Virginia Beach “The Emperor’s New Clothes” is a tale is told by Hans Christian Andersen of a vain leader, so focused on his standing before the wise and competent in his court that he fell for a phony scheme where some unscrupulous weavers sold him the idea that they could make him a colorful and beautiful garment, which would only be visible to those worthy. The garment was finished, and the emperor went on a tour to show off his new suit. Everyone in his kingdom came out to see these clothes — and to curry favor claimed how magnificent the emperor looked in his new suit. Only a child spoke the truth: The emperor has nothing at all on. And others finally joined in this observation. Even though the farce was exposed, the emperor and his court doubled-down. Act as if nothing is wrong: Inflation is not real, so spend more money; crime is not a problem, so empty the jails; illegal drugs entering the country aren’t a big deal, so keep our borders porous. Gary Whiting, Newport News Here’s an idea for all the Democratic governors. Gather all the Make America Great Again election deniers and insurrection supporters in your state and fly them to Florida for a permanent vacation with Gov. Ron DeSantis. New Business Run By People With Disabilities Opens In Cadillac Cadillac News
New Business Run By People With Disabilities Opens In Cadillac – Cadillac News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/new-business-run-by-people-with-disabilities-opens-in-cadillac-cadillac-news/ CADILLAC — There are some new businesses coming to Cadillac, and they’re going to be owned and operated by local residents with disabilities. A partner of Community Mental Health, MI Independent Living, LLC is a health care service that assists disabled individuals with finding independence in their lives. Co-owner Christopher Thetford said he’s been providing health care for his clients for almost four years, and in that time, he’s noticed that the one thing they really want is to have extra spending money for themselves. “They get Social Security and other things,” he said. “But by the time they pay their bills, they really just don’t have any money to do anything.” Thetford and his business partner have coordinated several field trips for their clients with all expenses paid, but they wanted to find a way for their participants to make that money on their own, without having to rely on a health care service. There are other local organizations that provide jobs for people with disabilities, like the After 26 Depot, but by operating their own business, Thetford said his clients won’t have to worry about competing for additional work hours. “So I thought, why can’t we help them run their own business?” Thetford said. “Because that’s how I started was just someone helping me along and starting my own business.” Once the seed was planted, Thetford said his participants were eager to get started and were already coming up with ideas for businesses that they could run, but the first to open up is a bakery called Hearts and Crafts. Thetford recommended that the Hearts and Crafts team start with cupcakes and breads, because they’re the most affordable to make and sell well within the community. At the moment, Hearts and Crafts is operating out of the MI Independent Living building on Mitchell Street, but Thetford said as revenue starts coming in, he’s hoping to move them into their own location. A website is also in the works for Hearts and Crafts to promote their products and possibly take orders. Some of Thetford’s other participants have been in the process of starting a lawn care and snow removal service, but until the proper equipment comes in, an official LLC hasn’t been established. Thetford said other participants have brought up the idea of custom cornhole board, bird houses and other handmade items. Whether the ideas come to fruition or not, Thetford said just the opportunity to own a business has put a newfound excitement in his clients. “A lot of them live in adult foster care homes and come to our classes during the day, but $5 a month is their budget for going out and doing anything,” he said. “And so now, I’ve seen them all kind of get this fire in them.” Along with having more financial freedom, Thetford said his participants have also gained a newfound social freedom. He said many clients often experience social anxiety, and being able to interact with people in the community has built their social confidence. Thetford has been guiding the participants along in their business startups by providing any financial assistance that they need through MI Independent Living. Many of the classes taught by the organization cover the basic skills needed to run a business as well. Moving forward, Thetford is hoping to get his clients more attuned to the marketing side of owning and running a business, so that they can increase their product sales and have even more control over their company’s goings-on. Hearts and Crafts bakery is currently open for business on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is located at 1526 N. Mitchell St.

Need we say more? Two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history square off on Sunday, as Rodgers and the Packers travel to Tampa to take on Brady and the Bucs.  It’s just the fifth time the legends have faced each other as starters in their long careers, with the last meeting coming in the 2021 NFC Championship game (the Bucs won, 31-26). Brady holds the edge in the head-to-head record between the two, leading 3-1. Tampa Bay enters the game sitting at 2-0 after wins over the Cowboys and Saints. However, they’re coming off a Week 2 win in New Orleans that wasn’t exactly pretty. The game was tied 3-3 heading into the final quarter before the Bucs finally pulled away late. Brady has been solid, if unspectacular, so far in his 23rd NFL season, with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception through two weeks. He’ll be missing one of his favorite targets on Sunday, though, as Mike Evans was suspended one game for his involvement in a scuffle against the Saints.  MORE: Watch Packers vs. Buccaneers live with fuboTV (free trial) Meanwhile, the Packers bounced back with a win over the Bears last Sunday after a miserable season-opening loss to the Vikings in Week 1. Rodgers has once again struggled to get on the same page with his young receivers so far this year, but he’ll be hoping to buck that trend to leave Florida with a 2-1 record. The Packers will escape with a win despite an awful second half for their offense.  7:24 p.m. — THE TRY IS NO GOOD. Brady was looking for Gage again, but his pass gets tipped and hits the turf incomplete. Tampa needs a miracle now. The @Packers prevent the 2-pt conversion! #GBvsTB pic.twitter.com/0qyneZbAix — NFL (@NFL) September 25, 2022 7:23 p.m. — WOW. Brady and the Bucs take a brutal delay of game penalty to move their two-point try back five yards. That is a huge mental error. Packers 14, Buccaneers 12 7:21 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Brady hits Gage for Tampa’s first touchdown of the game. But the job isn’t done. They need to covert this two-point conversion to realistically stay alive. — NFL (@NFL) September 25, 2022 7:20 p.m. — Fournette gets stuffed on 1st down and a Brady pass intended for Brate falls incomplete on 2nd down.  7:17 p.m. — With 30 seconds on the clock, Adrian Amos gets called for a costly defensive pass interference penalty. The Bucs have the ball at the 3-yard line needing a touchdown and a two-point conversion to tie it.  7:15 p.m. — Brady, working out of the hurry-up offense, finds Cameron Brate for an 11-yard gain. Then, Fournette secures a catch and scurries out of bounds for another first down. The Bucs have entered the red zone. 7:12 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — Tampa is (finally) on the move. Brady takes advantage of some soft coverage by Green Bay to string together three consecutive completions. It’s Bucs ball inside Packers territory with under two minutes to play. 7:09 p.m. — HUGE SACK BY TAMPA. Logan Hall buries Rodgers at midfield, pushing the Packers well out of field goal range. Brady is going to get the ball back again with a chance to tie it. When have we seen this before?  — Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@Buccaneers) September 25, 2022 7:07 p.m. — On 3rd and 10, Green Bay uses their second timeout of the half. They have the ball on Tampa Bay’s 42-yard line, and any points on this drive will go a long way to securing the win. 7:04 p.m. — Rodgers finds Lazard again, this time down the sideline for a gain of 26. The Packers are approaching field goal range, but they could use a few more yards to give Mason Crosby a chance to stretch the lead to two possessions.  — NFL (@NFL) September 25, 2022 7:03 p.m. — Finally, the Packers get a conversion on 3rd down. Rodgers finds Lazard to earn a fresh set of downs, and the clock continues to tick. Less than four minutes remaining now.  7:00 p.m. — The clock has been slowly ticking along, and we’ve reached the stage where any points by Green Bay could put this game to bed. The Packers call a timeout facing another 3rd down deep in their own territory.  6:57 p.m. — A 25-yard pass to Jaelon Darden gets Tampa’s drive off to a great start, but a failed trick play and a sack on Brady puts them right back where they started. On 3rd and 30, the Bucs take their medicine with a short pass and trot the punter onto the field yet again. 6:55 p.m. — On 3rd and 5, Tonyan makes a catch but is hauled down short of the marker. The punters are certainly getting their chance to shine this afternoon.  6:51 p.m. — Rodgers heaves a pass high into the steamy Tampa Bay air, only for it to be picked off. But the Bucs had 12 men on the field, negating the turnover.  6:46 p.m. — Surprise, surprise. Another three-and-out. This time it’s the Bucs’ turn to punt the ball away. After the explosive start, not many would have predicted this in the second half. Perhaps we’re seeing the effects of the brutal Florida heat? There are likely a lot of tired legs out there.  6:41 p.m. — Another failed 3rd down conversion for Green Bay. Jones gets stuffed in the backfield for a loss on 3rd and short. The difference between first half and second half has been night and day for the Packers’ offense. Brady now gets the ball with a chance to tie things up on this drive. End of third quarter: Packers 14, Buccaneers 6 6:34 p.m. — Brady scrambles for a big gain on 3rd and 3, but it’s called back for a holding penalty. He slid down awkwardly at the end of that play and spent a moment fiddling with his knee brace, but seems fine. The 3rd and 13 play goes nowhere, leading to another punt. This game has turned into a real defensive battle.  6:31 p.m. — The Packers’ offense has ground to a halt. Tampa’s defense gets off the field again after Aaron Jones is stopped on 3rd and 7. That’s six straight possessions without points for Green Bay. Packers 14, Buccaneers 6 6:27 p.m. FIELD GOAL — A shot to the end zone falls incomplete on 3rd down, but the Bucs are in field goal range thanks to an earlier 19-yard completion to Cameron Brate. Succop connects from 45 yards to make it a one-possession game.  Ryan Succop makes it a one score game #GoBucs pic.twitter.com/Kv0NeICcXm — Pro Football Culture (@proftblculture) September 25, 2022 6:25 p.m. — Tampa’s rushing game hasn’t gotten anything going so far today. Leonard Fournette, who has been dealing with a hamstring issue, has shouldered the bulk of the workload, but he’s been held in check by the Packers’ defense. 6:20 p.m. INTERCEPTION — The offensive struggles for both teams continue, and Rodgers has made his first big mistake of the game. He’s looking for Robert Tonyan, but it’s plucked out of the air by Tampa defender Logan Ryan. Can the Bucs capitalize with a score? — Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@Buccaneers) September 25, 2022 6:12 p.m. — Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich dials up three straight passes from deep in his own end, and all three fall incomplete. Both offenses have been stuck in neutral for a while now, but the Packers have another chance to add to their lead.  6:09 p.m. — Packers punter Pat O’Donnell hits a beauty that’s downed at the Bucs’ 1-yard line. An excellent play on special teams. 6:07 p.m. — The Bucs’ defense comes up with another important stop, with a Rodgers pass falling incomplete again on 3rd down. That’s three straight three-and-outs for the Packers.  6:02 p.m. FUMBLE — Wow. Another big mistake by a Bucs receiver, this time it’s Russell Gage who puts the ball on the turf near midfield. Rodgers gets the ball back with great field position.  — Green Bay Packers (@packers) September 25, 2022 5:58 p.m. — Tampa’s defense forces a three-and-out after a penalty backed up Green Bay. They really needed that stop. Now, they need points. Brady gets the ball at his own 20-yard line. 5:54 p.m. — The second half is underway. The Packers get the ball back looking to extend their lead. 5:46 p.m. — Regarding the Rodgers vs. Brady duel, both have played extremely well so far. A-Rod (15/18, 171 yards, 2 TD) has the edge over TB12 (13/14, 110 yards) thanks to his two scores. But in the more important battle, the Packers have a big advantage on the scoreboard. 5:40 p.m. — The Packers are in full control after two quarters, and they could be up by even more if it weren’t for Aaron Jones’ fumble on the goal line. Tampa’s defense needs to step it up in a big way if they’re going to have any chance of winning this game. End of first half: Packers 14, Buccaneers 3 5:38 p.m. — Rodgers goes deep on 3rd and short but it falls incomplete. The Packers punt it back, and the Bucs kneel out the last few seconds of the first half. 5:34 p.m. FUMBLE — Just when it looks like things are starting to click for the Tampa offense, they turn it over. Brady finds Breshad Perriman, who makes the catch but loses the ball. Darnell Savage is there to pounce on it, giving Rodgers and Co. the ball with 41 seconds left in the half. 5:32 p.m. — Coming out of the two-minute warning, Brady begins methodically moving the ball down the f...

1M Aussies Will Enter Crypto Over The Next 12 Months — Swyftx Survey – Cointelegraph https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/1m-aussies-will-enter-crypto-over-the-next-12-months-swyftx-survey-cointelegraph/ Approximately one million Australians will purchase cryptocurrency for the first time over the next 12 months — bringing total crypto ownership in the country to over five million — according to a newly released survey. The findings came from the second Annual Australian Crypto Survey by Australian crypto exchange Swyftx, which was conducted by research firm YouGov. The survey questioned 2,609 Australians over 18 years of age in early July, with 548 of the survey sample identified as current holders of cryptocurrency. The report stated that despite the current “Crypto Winter” which has seen approximately $2 trillion in assets wiped from the digital assets market over the course of the last year, Australian crypto ownership has grown 4% year-on-year, reaching 21% in 2022. According to the report, this figure is set to increase by another one million new crypto owners in 2023, while at least one-quarter of Australians are planning to buy crypto over the next 12 months, with Millenials, Gen Zers, Aussie parents, and those in full-time work most likely to buy.  Source: Annual Australian Crypto Survey, Swyftx This finding is broadly in line with recent data from a bitcoin processor suggesting the crypto winter isn’t holding back widespread adoption and comments from crypto exchange CoinJar’s head of content Luke Ryan claiming that sports sponsorship is helping legitimize crypto in Australia. Commenting on the bullish figures for crypto adoption and ownership, Swyftx’s Head of Strategic Partnerships, Tommy Honan told Cointelegraph:  “On the basis of current growth trajectories in the use of digital assets, we expect half of the adults under 50 in Australia to own or have owned crypto within the next one to two years.” However, Honan said there were also a lot of variables that make forecasting adoption “fiendishly difficult,” adding:  “The expectation is that we’ll see crypto move into the regulated space next year and, all other things being equal, you’d expect that to trigger growth in adoption, but it isn’t a given.” Honan said the rate of adoption may slow over the next 12 months before recovering again as market conditions improve. “The bear market has knocked confidence […] Confidence can take the stairs up and the lifts down, so we are going to have to wait and see how quickly the market takes to stabilize,” he noted.  According to the survey, lack of sound regulation was revealed as the biggest deterrent to investing in crypto for those who have not yet done so, along with a lack of knowledge about how crypto works, and overall market volatility. Related: Institutional investors headed for a tipping point on crypto — Apollo Capital This finding is reinforced by recent comments from the former head of risk at Credit Suisse CK Zheng, who believes the next crypto bull run will be a result of “regulatory clarity” in the United States. In a comment to Cointelegraph Swyftx co-CEO Ryan Parsons said the report shows there’s clear demand among Australians to purchase and use crypto, but that a “material factor” for crypto hesitancy remains regulation.  “The drumbeat for defined rules is growing and it will continue to grow if adoption of digital assets increases at its current rate. As this report shows, there’s clear demand among Australians to purchase and use crypto. It is imperative we meet this demand responsibly.”

Analysis | The Strong Dollar Is About To Pay Some Dividends – The Washington Post https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/analysis-the-strong-dollar-is-about-to-pay-some-dividends-the-washington-post/ In times like these I’m reminded of Robert Rubin. The former US Treasury Secretary in the Clinton administration was unequivocal that a strong dollar was in the country’s best interests, and the government should be careful not to undermine trust in the currency. The UK’s plan to ignite growth with tax cuts and borrowings has knocked down the pound and sparked fears of capital flight. With a federal budget deficit of more than 3% of gross domestic product, no one would call the US fiscally conservative. But it increasingly looks like the cleanest of the dirty shirts among major economies. That’s reflected in the greenback. The Bloomberg Dollar Index that measures the currency against its major peers rose by the most since March 2020 at one point on Friday, extending its gain since the middle of last year to more than 17%. Other measures put the dollar at its strongest in two decades.  The knee-jerk reaction would be that the currency’s appreciation is hurting exports by making American goods more expensive on the world stage. The Trump administration at times suggested that the dollar was too strong, and a weaker currency would benefit the US by boosting exports and cutting the trade deficit. Such notions lose sight of the true benefits of the dollar being a dependable store of value. The assurance attracts foreign capital, which services America’s budget and trade deficits while keeping a relative lid on borrowing costs. Just last week, the Treasury Department said foreign holdings of US Treasuries and related securities rose by $70.4 billion in July to $7.50 trillion. The amount foreigners own has climbed 50% over the last decade, despite increased borrowing and bigger deficits. US companies also benefit from faith in the dollar, which can be seen in stock valuations. Although share prices have suffered mightily this year as inflation accelerated and the Federal Reserve raised interest rates, investors are putting a premium on US companies relative to their global counterparts. At about 18.6 times, the MSCI US Index’s price-to-earnings ratio exceeds the 11.1 times of the MSCI All-Country World Index excluding the US. The current gap of 7.5 is wider than the typical 4 to 5 in the years prior to the pandemic, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Traders are betting the dollar’s rise is far from over. Bullish positioning among hedge funds and other large speculators is about eight times higher than the average of the past two decades, Commodity Futures Trading Commission data show. The dollar has been the world’s reserve currency since the US and its allies agreed at the 1944 Bretton Woods conference to peg it to a rate of $35 per ounce of gold. According to the International Monetary Fund, the dollar’s share of global reserves stands at 58.9%, far above the euro at 20.1%. After the euro, there’s a steep drop to No. 3 — Japan’s yen at 5.36%. While the dollar’s share has declined in recent years from about 70%, it’s still comfortably above the lows of around 45% in the early 1990s. The benefit to holding dollars is that US markets are so much deeper and more liquid than any other. At $23 trillion, the US Treasury market is more than double the size of Japan’s government bond market. And even if you wanted to buy so-called JGBs, you probably couldn’t because the Bank of Japan owns the vast majority, so much so that there’s no JGB trading on some days. As for Europe, the UK, French, Italian and German bond markets are all smaller than $3 trillion. And while America’s brand of democracy can seem messy at times — especially in recent years — foreign investors take comfort in the country’s adherence to the rule of law that draws capital from all around the world in good times and bad. When global foreign-direct investment flows surged 77% to an estimated $1.65 trillion in 2021, the US experienced an even bigger 114% jump to $323 billion, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. All this doesn’t mean that a bad year for financial assets can’t get worse. What it does mean is that the US is likely to be the beneficiary of turmoil in markets elsewhere, as global investors seek refuge in dollars. That will cushion the downside in financial assets. As Rubin said, a strong dollar is always in America’s best interests. More from Bloomberg Opinion: • Market Meltdown Sends a Warning to UK Government: Mark Gilbert • Get Ready for the Great British Fire Sale: Chris Hughes • A £45 Billion Tax Cut Isn’t Radical Enough: Therese Raphael This column does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the editorial board or Bloomberg LP and its owners. UK Builds Leadership In Space Debris Removal And In-Orbit Manufacturing With National Mission And Funding Boost GOV.UK
UK Builds Leadership In Space Debris Removal And In-Orbit Manufacturing With National Mission And Funding Boost – GOV.UK https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/uk-builds-leadership-in-space-debris-removal-and-in-orbit-manufacturing-with-national-mission-and-funding-boost-gov-uk/ Two UK-based companies are designing missions to clear hazardous space junk alongside the launch of a new programme to back cutting-edge space technology, the UK Space Agency has announced. ClearSpace and Astroscale have been awarded £4 million from the UK Space Agency to design missions to remove existing pieces of space debris, working with a consortium of industry partners. Once the designs are complete, the teams, along with other UK space companies, could receive further funding to see the UK’s first national space debris removal mission launch in 2026. The projects will directly support the creation of 70 new jobs, with further opportunities to increase growth in the wider UK space sector, which already supports 47,000 jobs and generates an income of £16.5 billion each year. The UK Space Agency has also announced a new Enabling Technology Programme (ETP), with up to £15 million to support innovative space research and develop emerging space technologies across the UK. The first of six calls for funding from ETP opened today and will include technology for in-orbit servicing and manufacturing, which can extend the lifetime of satellites, building resilience and reducing space debris. Future calls will focus on emerging technologies to support the UK’s contribution to future space science missions. Orbital congestion and space debris is one of the biggest challenges facing the global space sector and the UK Space Agency has committed £102 million, over the next three years, to deliver capabilities to track objects in space and reduce debris. The UK is also leading on global regulation and standard setting to make space activities more sustainable, in line with the government’s National Space Strategy. There are estimated to be more than 130 million pieces of space debris orbiting Earth, from tiny flecks of paint from spacecraft, to old satellites, spent rocket bodies and even tools dropped by astronauts. This debris can stay in orbit for hundreds of years and present a real danger to satellites and the public services that they deliver, from communications and navigation to environmental monitoring. Dr Paul Bate, Chief Executive of the UK Space Agency, said: As our reliance on space technologies increases rapidly and the UK becomes a global hub of satellite design, manufacturing and launch, we are committed to leading efforts to make space more sustainable. With 1,700 satellites launched last year alone, the need to safeguard the space environment for the benefit of everyone on Earth has never been more pressing. By catalysing investment, backing innovative new technologies and supporting a national mission to remove space debris, we can keep space open for future generations and protect the important satellite services that modern life depends on. ClearSpace UK, based in London, and Astroscale Ltd., based at the Harwell Space Cluster in Oxfordshire, were chosen after completing feasibility studies of the missions to remove derelict objects from space earlier this year. ClearSpace has been awarded £2.25 million to conduct the next phase of a study into a mission which would remove derelict satellites from Low Earth orbit (LEO). This design phase will last until October 2023 and will finish with the preliminary design review — an evaluation of the progress on the design and the technical adequacy of the proposed mission. The Clearing the LEO Environment with Active Removal (CLEAR) mission, which will advance key technology building blocks, is a catalyst for the development of commercially viable disposal services and other in-orbit services. Rory Holmes, ClearSpace UK Managing Director said: ClearSpace is honoured that the UK Space Agency is continuing their support to the CLEAR Mission. Space is getting more and more congested with defunct satellites, rocket bodies and other fragments – we have to act now to ensure this precious environment remains usable for future generations. The CLEAR Mission is a vital step on the path to making the removal of space debris a reality, and will allow us to develop state-of-the-art space technologies, such as complex robotics and AI-based algorithms, within the UK. We cannot solve the challenge of space debris alone, and we are proud that 9 cutting-edge UK-based space companies – Alden Legal, AstroAgency, Critical Software, Deimos, MDA, Orbit Fab, Satellite Applications Catapult, University of Surrey – will work with us to address this issue. Astroscale Ltd. has been awarded £1.7 million to design a satellite servicer that is capable of removing multiple retired or defunct satellites in a single mission. The Cleaning Outer Space Mission through Innovative Capture (COSMIC) will harness Astroscale’s rendezvous and Remote Proximity Operations (RPO), and debris capture capabilities. Astroscale most recently proved their magnetic capture and RPO capability in-orbit during the End-of-Life Services by Astroscale-demonstration (ELSA-d) satellite mission launched in 2021. The COSMIC servicer will be a technological progression of Astroscale’s Sunrise programme ELSA-M servicer – a commercial partnership between the UK Space Agency, the European Space Agency and OneWeb, the global satellite operator. The ELSA-M multi-client debris removal space servicer will be launched ahead of the UK’s Active Debris Removal mission in late 2024. Nick Shave, Managing Director, Astroscale Ltd, said: We rely on space in so many areas of our lives, yet without the rapid development of the in-orbit servicing market we cannot start removing the hazardous debris that threatens our societal dependence on satellites. We are very pleased and honoured to have been selected by the UK Space Agency for this Active Debris Removal Mission Study award. Astroscale, working closely with expert UK partner companies, will design a national robotic capture capability that can safely remove two defunct UK-registered satellites in Low Earth Orbit. With our proven space mission heritage and strong industrial partnerships, we can deliver the UK government’s ambitious plans to develop a sustainable space economy for the benefit of future generations. Our goal is to make in-orbit debris removal and satellite servicing routine by 2030. The government recently unveiled its Plan for Space Sustainability to tackle the growing volume of debris in space, which is both environmentally and commercially unsustainable. The plan includes action to clean up the Earth’s orbit as well as to ensure future projects minimise their footprint, for instance through in-orbit servicing and manufacturing to prolong a satellite’s life or recycle satellites in orbit, as well as retrieving satellites and mitigating debris. The UK has previously provided funding for the implementation of the UN Office for Outer Space Activities (UNOOSA) guidelines for the long-term sustainability of outer space. To achieve a safe and sustainable space environment, the UK is playing a leading role alongside UNOOSA in the adoption of these guidelines, which set out how countries and companies can help preserve the outer space environment for future generations. The UK is also the leading contributor to the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Space Safety programme, which provides collaboration and funding opportunities for UK scientists and industry.
