This Surveillance Artist Knows How You Got That Perfect Instagram Photo – The New York Times https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/this-surveillance-artist-knows-how-you-got-that-perfect-instagram-photo-the-new-york-times/ A tech-savvy artist unearthed video footage of people working hard to capture the perfect shot for Instagram. It is a lesson in the artifice of social media and the ubiquity of surveillance. Send any friend a story As a subscriber, you have 10 gift articles to give each month. Anyone can read what you share. Sept. 24, 2022Updated 8:40 p.m. ET David Welly Sombra Rodrigues, a 35-year-old French teacher, loves to travel. After the pandemic forced him to offer his language lessons virtually, he seized the moment, relocating from Brazil to Europe, where he could hop on trains to new cities to his heart’s delight, all of which he documented on Instagram. Earlier this month, a photo he took in Ireland for his more than 7,000 Instagram followers went viral. But he didn’t realize it until a friend messaged him, pointing him to a news article about “The Follower,” a digital art project that showed just how much can be captured by webcams broadcasting from public spaces — and how surprising it can be for those who are unwittingly filmed by them. The artist had paired Instagram photos with video footage that showed the process of taking them. The artist had not included the Instagram users’ names or handles, but of course Mr. Rodrigues’s friends recognized him. Image Mr. Depoorter said his project, “The Follower,” demonstrates both the artifice of images on social media and the dangers of increasingly automated forms of surveillance.Credit…Lauren Fleishman for The New York Times In Mr. Rodrigues’s case, a webcam operated by a company called EarthCam caught the effort that had gone into a seemingly casual photo of him leaning against the distinctive bright-red entryway of the Temple Bar in Dublin. He tried a few different angles and poses, did a minor outfit change and eventually added a prop — a pint of pricey beer from the famous pub. Articles about the project incorrectly described the subjects of the piece, including Mr. Rodrigues, who goes by @avecdavidwelly on Instagram, as influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers. But most of them were just typical social media users, with far smaller audiences. “I was completely shocked,” Mr. Rodrigues said in a Zoom interview. “I wasn’t expecting that someone was recording me.” The artist behind “The Follower,” Dries Depoorter, said his project demonstrates both the artifice of images on social media and the dangers of increasingly automated forms of surveillance. “If one person can do this, what can a government do?” Mr. Depoorter, 31, said. ‘Live From NYC’s Times Square!’ Mr. Depoorter, who is based in Ghent, Belgium, came up with the idea for “The Follower” just over a month ago, while researching privately installed cameras in public places that he might use for a different art project. While watching a live online feed from Times Square, he saw a woman taking pictures of herself for “a long time.” Thinking she might be an influencer, he tried to find the product of her extended shoot among Instagram photos recently geo-tagged to Times Square. He came up empty but that got him thinking. The 24/7 broadcast that Mr. Depoorter watched — titled “Live From NYC’s Times Square!” — was provided by EarthCam, a New Jersey company that specializes in real-time camera feeds. EarthCam built its network of livestreaming webcams “to transport people to interesting and unique locations around the world that may be difficult or impossible to experience in person,” according to its website. Founded in 1996, EarthCam monetizes the cameras through advertising and licensing of the footage. Mr. Depoorter realized that he could come up with an automated way to combine these publicly available cameras with the photos that people had posted on Instagram. So, over a two-week period, he collected EarthCam footage broadcast online from Times Square in New York, Wrigley Field in Chicago and the Temple Bar in Dublin. Ms. Hammoud, who is based in Brussels, was troubled most by the broadcasting of people’s activity in public spaces without their knowledge. Ms. Hammoud said EarthCam should reconsider the risks of its livestreaming given the power of publicly available surveillance technologies. “These cameras no longer serve the purpose that they used to years ago,” Ms. Hammoud said. “People can be tracked.” EarthCam declined to answer questions about its cameras and the risks they might pose to the privacy of the individuals who are filmed by them in an age of more powerful biometric-tracking technologies. The company’s marketing director, Simon Kerr, said only that Mr. Depoorter had “used EarthCam imagery and video without authorization and such usage is in violation of our copyright.” Mr. Depoorter said his project is not about the specific companies that enabled it. “It’s not only EarthCam,” he said. “There are many unprotected cameras all over the world.” Breaking Into Someone’s Privacy While recording the feeds from EarthCam, Mr. Depoorter simultaneously downloaded public photos from Instagram that users were tagging to those locations. Instagram discourages collecting photos en masse from its platform. “Collecting information in an automated way” is a violation of the company’s terms of use and can get a user banned. “We’ve reached out to the artist to learn more about this piece and understand his process,” said Thomas Richards, a spokesman for Meta, the company that owns Instagram. “Privacy is a top priority for us, as is protecting people’s information when they share content on our platforms.” After the data collection from EarthCam and Instagram came the difficult part: finding the right people to needle in the digital haystack. Image Mr. Taggart on Mulberry Street in Little Italy in Manhattan.Credit…John Taggart & Jorge Garcia for The New York Times Image A screen grab from EarthCam. Mr. Taggart is wearing black with his hands up.Credit…Earthcam Mr. Depoorter had previously done art projects on the surprising gaze of public cameras that had required him to write software to sort through lots of video footage. Last year, he built “Flemish scrollers,” which tagged Belgian politicians on social media when they looked down at their phones during parliamentary sessions that were broadcast live on YouTube. Before that, he had used open surveillance cameras to spot jaywalkers who ignored red lights — stills of which he sold online for the cost of the fines the miscreants would have incurred if caught. To search the faces from the Instagram photos in the footage from EarthCam, Mr. Depoorter relied on open-source facial recognition software, code for which can be found on sites like GitHub. “It’s not perfect,” he said. He had to do an extensive manual review of the suggested matches to find ones that were accurate. As for the handful of people he chose to include in “The Follower,” he wanted a diverse group, including a couple taking a photo kissing in Dublin, two friends strolling through Times Square and a woman with hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers. Mr. Depoorter did not reach out to them in advance and said he has not heard from any of them. Suresh Venkatasubramanian, a former White House tech adviser and professor at Brown University, said he found the project intriguingly “subversive,” in displaying the casual privacy invasions that are possible with modern technology. But he said Mr. Depoorter’s deployment of the surveillance on “random people” was unsettling. “You don’t break into someone’s house to show them you can break into their house,” Mr. Venkatasubramanian said. “You shouldn’t do it unless they ask you to.” Mr. Depoorter compiled the Instagram photos and accompanying surveillance footage into a YouTube video, which attracted over 100,000 views before YouTube took it down. The privacy intrusion wasn’t the cause. EarthCam claimed ownership over the footage from its cameras, saying the YouTube video violated the company’s copyright. Mr. Depoorter is trying to figure out how to get the video back up. Lawyers have advised him that his transformation of the surveillance footage, putting AI-powered bounding boxes around people in the short clips and showing the footage in juxtaposition with the Instagram portraits, is a fair use that is legally protected. A Willing Subject Image Mr. Depoorter said he came up with the idea for “The Follower” just over a month ago while researching cameras he might use for a different art project.Credit…Lauren Fleishman for The New York Times Mr. Depoorter is based in the European Union, which has robust privacy rules, called the General Data Protection Regulation, to protect citizens’ personal data, including their photos and biometric information...

Inside The Secret World Of Luxury Hotels-Within-Hotels – The Points Guy https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/inside-the-secret-world-of-luxury-hotels-within-hotels-the-points-guy/ Even if you’ve been to Las Vegas dozens of times, you may not know there’s a secret, ultraluxe hotel hidden within the MGM Grand. Called The Mansion at MGM Grand, this hotel-within-a-hotel consists of 29 “Mediterranean-themed residences ranging from 2,400 square feet to 12,000 square feet” all within “an enclave of privacy and pleasure where the sensual riches of Tuscany reach their fullest expression,” according to the website. Translation: There’s a little Tuscan village, exclusively for the rich and famous, under a glass dome in the shadow of the famous green resort on the Las Vegas Strip. And guests staying in that VIP village get exclusive perks such as private butlers, limousine transport, highly customized private dining, an exclusive pool and more. Sign up for our daily newsletter Interested in a stay? “Qualified guests only,” the website warns. But what makes someone qualified? The Mansion at MGM Grand. SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY A representative for the hotel remained tight-lipped about who qualifies, but a call to the reservations desk answered a few questions. You technically don’t need to be a high roller or a Grammy winner, as I assumed, to book a stay in one of these villas, but a reservation request has to be approved by management, the phone agent explained to me. That’s because those managers give priority (and probably free stays) to the actual high rollers who are droppings hundreds of thousands of dollars in the casino. But if you’re gambling is more modest, or even nonexistent, anyone who can afford the Mansion — I was quoted $6,000 to $7,500 a night for a two-bedroom villa — can put in a request and, assuming they’re not all blocked off by the higher powers, there’s a fair chance the stay is yours. One word of advice: Don’t try to book a stay here when there’s a big event on the books, like a fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Also, don’t try to book more than 90 days in advance, as these larger-than-life villas (including the four-bedroom villa with an indoor pool) seem to be mostly set aside in case a true VIP pops into town. While The Mansion at MGM Grand is certainly one of the most top-tier experiences in Sin City, it’s not the only hotel-within-a-hotel in town. In fact, there are quite a few on the Strip. And now the trend of putting another entirely separate hotel, hidden or not, within another hotel is starting to spread outside the confines of Las Vegas. Hotels hiding in plain sight In its most simple form, a hotel-within-a-hotel is exactly what it sounds like: a separate hotel tucked away inside a bigger or better-known hotel. In theory, there are no set rules and a hotel-within-a-hotel can be whatever a hotelier wants it to be, from a set of luxurious villas with a private reception area to an entirely different brand or chain in the same building. “A hotel-within-a-hotel is a more elevated experience offering elite interiors, designated check-in areas, exclusive services, dedicated staff and upgraded amenities that are completely different from the host hotel,” Benjamin Kott, vice president of hotel operations at Aria and Vdara in Las Vegas, told TPG. Kott added that MGM has hotels like this in its portfolio, including NoMad at Park MGM and Delano at Mandalay Bay. The NoMad Las Vegas in the Park MGM is a great example of a well-known brand setting up shop within a larger host hotel. The Sydell Group, the force behind brands like Line and Freehand, originally created the much-loved NoMad New York, which closed in 2021. Playing off the success of that hotel, Sydell Group, which owns Park MGM, brought a taste of New York to the Strip in the form of a hotel-within-a-hotel, the NoMad Las Vegas, which has its own porte cochere, or private entrance. The entrance to the NoMad Las Vegas. MGM RESORTS INTERNATIONAL But that’s not the only one. The Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas is tucked away in the Mandalay Bay complex and the Nobu Hotel Las Vegas, the very first in the Nobu hotel empire that’s sweeping the globe, is found in Caesars Palace. While each of these hotels is different in what it offers, one of the big perks is that guests in the more exclusive (often more expensive) hotels can still use the amenities of what Kott called the “host” hotel. At the Four Seasons in Las Vegas, for example, guests can swim in the private Four Seasons pool or take advantage of Mandalay Bay’s massive pool complex and its real-sand beach. FOUR SEASONS But there’s another type of hotel-within-a-hotel — one that’s created by and within the host hotel to offer an elevated, luxurious experience for someone looking for something beyond just a place to sleep at night. “As the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas sees a variety of visitors from all over the globe who travel to the city with specific tastes and interests,” said Kott. “We’re seeing now, more than ever, that our guests want an elevated stay and experiences that showcase more customer service and amenities and hotels-within-hotels offer all that and more.” At his hotel, Aria, there are actually two hotel-within-a-hotel experiences: Aria Sky Suites and Sky Villas, both of which just went through head-to-toe remodels. At Sky Suites, there are 400 suites with one to multiple bedrooms that can be booked directly online by anyone willing to shell out upward of $1,100 per night. A Sky Suites one-bedroom penthouse. MGM RESORTS INTERNATIONAL The Sky Villas are akin to The Mansion at MGM Grand, requiring management approval to release one of the resort’s top-tier rooms that would otherwise be given to a high roller. Calling to see what kind of price we might be looking at for one of the Sky Villas, a phone representative said he recently saw managers approve a three-bedroom suite for $20,000 a night and smaller rooms (they start at 2,000 square feet, so not that small) for between $10,000 and $12,000 a night. But hey, that’s the price of exclusivity. “Aria Sky Suites and Sky Villas at Aria are definitely separate experiences from Aria itself in that they both offer complimentary luxury transportation to and from the airport,” Kott explained. “They also have their own separate entrance and designated check-in area, a separate pool area and a 24-hour concierge that gives Sky Suites and Sky Villa guests effortless access to some of the city’s best offerings.” And if you’re curious if these hotels-within-hotels are competing against their host hotels, the answer is a simple no, according to Kott. “It’s a different kind of clientele so it doesn’t compete.” Beyond Las Vegas Though Las Vegas may hold the crown for most hotel-within-a-hotel experiences, it’s not the only place you can find the concept. One place to look for it is Miami, where there are a number of properties offering a secret (or not-so-secret) hotel within another. At the storied Eden Roc Miami Beach, which opened in 1955 to the sounds of a live Harry Belafonte performance, would-be guests can book a stay at Nobu Hotel Miami Beach, which has a pool for guests 21 and older and a private beach area. Marriott got in on the action by opening The Hotel Beaux Arts, part of the Autograph Collection, on the top floors of the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. There, guests might not have the same exclusive perks as in Vegas, but guests can have a more boutique stay in the room while enjoying shared amenities between the two like the Enliven Spa, a 19th-floor pool, virtual bowling and even basketball courts. Up in Palm Beach, Florida, guests can always expect a luxurious stay at The Breakers, a palatial oceanfront property that dates back to the late 1800s. But for a much more exclusive stay, check into The Flagler Club, a boutique-like hotel on the top floors of the resort that comes with Telsa chauffeur service, a private lounge and rooftop terrace, a dedicated team to help with any needs and more — all for about $1,000 more per night than a standard Breakers room. On the other side of the country, in California, San Diego’s Hotel del Coronado just unveiled an entirely new hotel-within-a-hotel experience, alongside its other hotel offerings, billed as “neighborhoods.” The newest hotel, The Shore House, comprises 75 one-, two- and three-bedroom residential-style accommodations right off the beach of the Pacific Ocean. The Shore House pool. HILTON Though the resort itself is a sprawling complex with accommodation types for every type of traveler, The Shore House is an elevated, luxury experience that feels more like a vacation rental with a dedicated resort entrance, a zero-edge oceanfront pool with private cabanas, a poolside bar and access to the resort’s other amenities, plus a VIP concierge exclusive to Shore House guests. Rates at The Shore House start at $1,299 a night. Bottom line Hotels-within-hotels aren’t a new concept, but it’s also a growing trend I hope we see more of in the future, especially at big resorts like you’ll find in Las Vegas and other popular vacation destinations. While club-level rooms at a lot of hotels do offer special perks like a lounge and a happy hour, having an entirely different hotel-within-a-hotel creates a truly distinct experience that can totally elevate a trip (and its price tag). So, the next time you’re looking for a place to stay, be sure to do a little digging. Who knows, there might just be a secret hotel — or Tuscan village — hiding in the shadows. Can A Clothing Company Save The Planet? Patagonia Wants To Find Out. – 1330 WFIN https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/can-a-clothing-company-save-the-planet-patagonia-wants-to-find-out-1330-wfin/ Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto via Getty Images (NEW YORK) — If there was any doubt about where outdoor clothing company Patagonia stood on environmentalism, it was quickly put to rest last week when founder Yvon Chouinard and his family donated their ownership to efforts that would protect the planet. “Earth is now our only shareholder,” Chouinard wrote on Patagonia’s website. But can the generous donation from a billionaire — this one valued at more than $3 billion — and the spoils from his successful retail company move the needle on finding solutions to mitigate global warming? Experts told ABC News that the unprecedented move itself won’t be enough to make significant strides in curbing emissions and the rise in global temperatures. But the domino effect that results from inspiring future philanthropists to make similar donations could reverberate throughout the climate fight, they hypothesized. The drastic nature of the move is emblematic of the dire consequences that could result if major action is not taken, Hans Cole, head of environmental grants, campaigns and impact for Patagonia, told ABC News. “It really just acknowledges the increasing urgency around the crisis — around climate, around biodiversity, and around how those impact people and communities around the world,” Cole said. Here is what experts have to say about the monumental donation: How the Patagonia donation is different from other billionaire philanthropy Donations from the wealthiest Americans occur on a regular basis but rarely draw as much attention as the gift made by Chouinard. The donation differs from most billionaire philanthropy for two key reasons. First, the donation involves the giving away of Chouinard’s company. Chouinard gave up nearly all of his shares in Patagonia and vowed to donate the company’s annual profits. However, the maneuver draws on a two-tiered stock system of voting and non-voting shares, allowing Chouinard to retain control of the company. Under the arrangement, Chouinard donated 98% of his non-voting shares in the company to a nonprofit, the Holdfast Collective. However, 2% of the shares — which make up all of the company’s voting shares — will be retained in the Patagonia Purpose Trust. “The Chouinards have total control of Patagonia through the trust, and they’re giving everything else away,” Daniel Hemel, a law professor at New York University, told ABC News. The move is “unusual but it’s not unique,” Hemel added, noting that dual-class share structures are used at companies such as Google and The New York Times. He also cited a similar model of philanthropy undertaken by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. “Zuckerberg has mostly control of Facebook through the shares he’s retained and he’s giving some of it away,” Hemel said. Hemel said he lends “credence” to the rationale for continued control of Patagonia offered by Chouinard, who said the maneuver will allow him to protect the company’s commitment to environment-friendly values. The second feature of the donation that distinguishes it centers on the nonprofit formed by Chouinard, which will allow him to pursue political advocacy and donate to political candidates. Most large-dollar philanthropy made by wealthy people goes to 501(c)(3) organizations, such as the Gates Foundation, Hemel said. Donations to such organizations are tax-deductible, but the groups are forbidden by law from participating in political campaigns or giving to political candidates. However, the nonprofit created by Chouinard as the recipient of this donation, the Holdfast Collective, is classified as a 501(c)(4), which means the gift forgoes an income tax deduction but the organization can participate in politics. The Collective “can advocate for causes and political candidates in addition to making grants and investments in our planet,” Patagonia said on its website. Philanthropists have made giant donations to the climate fight in the past The donation from Chouinard, valued at more than $3 billion, joins a flurry of large-dollar philanthropy in recent years focused on the climate. While Chouinard’s donation is smaller than that of some of his peers, the Holdfast Collective differs from other climate philanthropy because of its capacity to participate in political campaigns. In 2020, Amazon Executive Chair Jeff Bezos pledged $10 billion to address climate change with the formation of the Bezos Earth Fund, which does not support political candidates. So far, the organization has granted $1.54 billion to programs that range from restoring mangroves in Columbia and Fiji to empowering grassroots environmental justice groups and providing technology for farmers in India. Last year, Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of late Apple founder Steve Jobs, pledged $3.5 billion to fight climate change through the Waverley Street Foundation, an organization formed by Jobs in 2016. It aims to address the problem by supporting local groups in communities worldwide that are “at work in the trenches of the battle for a livable planet,” the organization said last month. As a 501(c)(3), the Waverley Street Foundation is not allowed to participate in political campaigns. Meanwhile, the ClimateWorks Foundation, which says it has granted over $1.3 billion to more than 600 grantees in over 50 countries, uses environmental expertise to channel donations for projects worldwide. As with the Bezos Earth Fund, the ClimateWorks Foundation supports a wide range of programs, including efforts to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reverse forest loss. The ClimateWorks Foundation doesn’t participate in political campaigns, either, as it’s also a 501(c)(3). The approach from Chouinard — a significant departure from most billionaire climate giving — allows the organization to amplify its impact, Hemel said. “What the Chouinards realize is that effective action to protect the planet from climate change is going to need to be government action,” he said. “Three billion dollars potentially can make a difference in elections.” If they were to spend “a fraction” of the $3 billion on a U.S. Senate race, for example, that ends up changing the Senate majority, “then they could be leveraging that fraction of $3 billion into hundreds of billions in additional climate investment,” Hemel added. Harvey Dale, a professor of philanthropy and law at New York University, echoed the view that the scale of private giving on climate-related issues pales in comparison with public spending. “I suppose if you took all the money in all the foundations in the country — many hundreds of billions of dollars — you would say, ‘Wow, how about that,’” Dale told ABC News. “It’s a tiny bit compared to the amount [President Joe] Biden recommended in legislation just a year or two ago.” To adequately address climate change, the scale of public investment must far outweigh that of the donor community, Dale said. “The amount of money in the philanthropic sector is a drop in the bucket compared to how much the government would spend,” he added. The donation follows the company’s ethos of sustainability Patagonia has decades of experience in working to make its carbon footprint as small as possible in addition to tackling aspects of the environmental crisis, Cole said. The company says it uses materials with lower environmental impacts, has cleaned up parts of its supply chain and encourages practices such as a program that allows customers to sell or trade their used pieces. “It has been a 50-year journey for us, absolutely throwing everything we can, all the resources possible,” Cole said. In the past few years, Patagonia has increased its environmental commitments, even changing its mission statement to saving the planet, Cole said. Customers who wear the Patagonia brand, often those committed to sports and pastimes that keep them out in nature, tend to agree with the goals. Even after the transfer of ownership, Patagonia will continue to donate 1% of its sales each year to grassroots environmental nonprofits, according to its website. The unprecedented donation could inspire more Experts say that Patagonia could inspire other companies and wealthy philanthropists to join the race to mitigate climate change. Patagonia hopes that as many businesses and organizations as possible will replicate or take pieces of their plan and adapt it to their unique situation, Cole said. “We want this to have legs,” he said. Tailoring to the needs of companies of different sizes and operations will also be key, John Forrer, director of the Institute for Corporate Responsibility at George Washington University, said. “You have your own company interests, you have your own company values, you have what your stakeholders think is a good idea,” he told ABC News. With any company that dedicates funds and a portion of its mission statement to the climate crisis, it will be important that it’s not done with the sole intent of “corporate greenwashing” as a cheap PR stunt, tax breaks or profit motives, Rachel Cleetus, policy director and lead economist at the Union of Concerned Scientists’ climate and energy program, told ABC News. Rather, businesses need to really care about issues such as transitioning the economy to clean energy to make a difference — something the Chouinard family has exemplified, Cleetus said, adding that there are many businesses that claim publicly they are for climate solutions but are actually lobbying for policies that undermine climate progress. “Patagonia is in a whole different class, they’re actually walking the walk. That’s what we need more businesses to do,” Cleetus said. The world can’t rely on the generosity of billionaires, experts say Making meaningful gains in the urgent fight against global warming ...

4 Ways Teens Hurt Their Mental Health (Without Even Knowing It) – YourTango https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/4-ways-teens-hurt-their-mental-health-without-even-knowing-it-yourtango/ New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that “about 1 in 4 young adults are seeking mental health care.” We have to remember that teens with ADHD are trying their best. But, despite their best efforts to manage their own lives and exercise the independence they so desperately crave, I notice that they seem to repeat several habits that interfere with these desires. Whether it’s spending too much time on social media, practicing unhealthy eating habits, arguing via text, or expecting failure and not trying, they need guidance to help them navigate peer relationships, make thoughtful decisions, and practice self-care. Here are four issues that seem to keep popping up for teens in 2022 and how you can help them have a positive outcome. RELATED: 6 SECRET Ways To Emotionally Connect With Your Teen Four ways teens today hurt their mental health — without realizing it. 1. Spending too much time on social media. Social media is one of the top issues for teens in 2022. It not only seems to suck up time faster than you notice but it also is built so that people compare themselves to others. These comparisons are rarely favorable, and people walk away not feeling positive about themselves. As one adolescent girl told me, “No one ever posts pictures of their face mid-menstrual break-out or their bombed test grade.” Teens especially feel pressured to keep up with friends, stay in touch and maintain an image they’ve created. This creates more stress in their lives, interrupting their ability to reflect on themselves and what they think and make a sturdy sense of self.  Tip: Schedule screen-free time each day. Whether it’s during a meal or after-school to take a break, help teens create screen-free time to give their eyes and brains some much-needed time away from technology to recover.  RELATED: 10 Supportive Things To Say To Someone Struggling With Their Mental Health 2. Eating fast food on the run instead of preparing healthy meals and sitting down to eat them together You’ve heard the saying, “you are what you eat.” It’s so true, not only what we eat but also how we eat. When we eat non-nutritious food quickly, we’re not providing our brains or bodies with the appropriate fuel to think and function well. Sharing a meal is good for adolescent physiology and allows them to connect with people face-to-face and talk about their lives. When we sit down to eat a meal, our bodies slow down and properly digest our food so we can absorb the nutrients and simultaneously take a much-needed break from the chaos of our lives. Tip: Create regular family meals in your routine. Set aside particular days and times when the family gathers together to share some nourishment. Engage your teen in cooking as well. This is an excellent opportunity for them to learn valuable and rewarding life skills.  RELATED: 10 Essential Coping Secrets For When Life Feels Overwhelming 3. Having arguments via texting or emailing. Nobody can take an emotional weather report via electronic communication. If you say something difficult or sensitive, there’s no way to perceive how your words affect the other person. You also may not perceive whatever feelings are brewing inside them. It’s easier to disengage and avoid accountability for your words and actions. Teens need to learn and practice interaction skills for healthy personal relationships and school, work, and life situations where they must deal with others.  Tip: Assist your teen in dealing with issues more directly, by phone call, Zoom, or safely in person. Help them develop some phrases they can say and role play these conversations, so they feel more comfortable and confident. RELATED: If You’re Always Depressed, It May Be Time To Take This One Crucial Step 4. Giving up before they even start. Many teens with ADHD struggle with low motivation, negative outlooks, and procrastination avoidance. They put off activities like homework, chores, or hygiene because they don’t enjoy them and may not see their value. Many kids have a history of not succeeding despite exerting themselves and don’t believe they can do anything differently now. An adolescent boy told me, “I’ve tried before and failed, so why would it be any different now?”  Related Stories From YourTango: Tip: Break tasks down into smaller chunks to make them more manageable for kids to attempt. Help kids recall times when they made efforts and succeeded, clarifying what tools and actions helped them accomplish what needed to get done. Notice their effort and progress towards a goal and encourage them along the way. It’s time for young people to start living a full and healthy life. Building a strong connection with your teens will protect their mental health and build long-lasting relationships that will help them grow into healthy adulthood. Hyatt18 REC, 267 YD, 3 TDS See New Posts Pinned Pinned THAT’S GOING TO AFFECT GAMBLERS While it isn’t going to change the outcome of the game in all likelihood, Florida gets another touchdown to cut the Tennessee lead to 38-27. That cashes the over for some, but Florida’s 2-point conversion is no good, so it’s still 38-27. If you had Tennessee -10.5, you’re thrilled! If you bet Florida +10.5, not so much! Pinned Pinned THIS FINAL EIGHT MINUTES IS DEDICATED TO THE GAMBLERS The spread closed with Tennessee as a 10.5-point favorite. The total closed at 62.5 points. Both are still in question as we play the final half of the fourth quarter. If you bet on either, I wish you the best of luck. Pinned Pinned Pinned GAME OVER, MAN. GAME OVER That should just about do it. Jaylen Wright scores off-tackle from five yards out to make it a 38-21 Tennessee lead with only 7:55 left to play. The Vols slowed things down a little that drive, going 87 yards on 10 plays and taking 4:39 off the clock. That’s basically their version of the triple-option offense. The Vols are up to 564 yards of offense and are averaging 8.8 yards per play. I’m not a scientist, but I did take AP Chemistry, so I feel I’m qualified to tell you that it’s very hard to lose games when you average 8.8 yards per play. Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned FUMBLE I think that’s game. Florida had a nice drive going, and reached the red zone, but that’s where Anthony Richardson was stripped by Tennessee’s Omari Thomas and Jeremy Banks got on the ball for the Vols. That’s a huge play in this game. The Florida defense is in desparate need of a three-and-out, or at the very least, a quick punt or turnover. Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned THE TENNESSEE OFFENSE IS PRETTY HARD TO STOP While Hooker’s daring escape was the highlight of the drive, the most important part of the drive was that it ended in yet another Tennessee touchdown. Jabari Small scores his second TD of the day, and his first on the ground, from a yard out. It’s another quick drive for the Vols, who went 62 yards in five plays and took only 109 seconds off the clock. Though there was a 5-minute review in which the refs stared at a play they couldn’t see and then just kept things the way they were. It was thrilling! Anywho, it’s 31-21 Vols with 3:58 left in the third. Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned HENDON HOUDINI HOOKER I have no idea how Hooker escaped the pocket, but he did and then decided he’d take off for 44 yards. Pinned Pinned Pinned FLORIDA’S FOURTH DOWN BRAVERY RESULTS IN POINTS The Gators went for it on fourth down for the fourth time today. This time on a 4th and 3 in the red zone. Anthony Richardson hit Keon Zipperer to convert, and a few plays later it’s Richardson scoring from a yard out on a QB sneak. That was a must-have drive from the Gators who couldn’t afford to come away without point considering how little their defense has done to stop Tennessee lately. It’s a 12-play, 75-yard drive and it’s now 24-21 Tennessee just under the 6-minute mark of the third quarter. Pinned Pinned Pinned TENNESSEE WASTES NO TIME Well, OK, it wasted a little time as a holding call on Gerald Mincey negated a Hendon Hooker TD run, but the Vols scored a play later, so it didn’t matter. Hooker hit Jabari Small for a 16-yard TD to go up 24-14 on the first drive of the second half. The Vols went 73 yards in 10-plays, and have now scored touchdowns on three of their last four possession. In fact, the only possessions Tennessee hasn’t scored on today are the ones that ended with fumbles.  See More

10 Best Stealth Games DualShockers
10 Best Stealth Games DualShockers
10 Best Stealth Games – DualShockers https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/10-best-stealth-games-dualshockers/ Stealth games are not some of the most readily available modern-day titles, as the genre has kind of died down over the years. They require a little more thinking than the typical FPS game, as trying to take on situations without putting much thought will–a lot of the time–get players overran and killed. Stealth games are like giant puzzles that concern themselves with figuring out how to navigate around or quietly kill enemies. Some of the games that will be mentioned allow players to take on a more hands-on approach to combat, but, for the most part, these games rely mainly on players figuring out intricate ways to deal with their opponents. 10 Styx: Shards of Darkness Styx: Shards of Darkness took the original, which was a subpar game, and made it a better stealth game. The game has many flaws, but it still gives players exactly what they would want from a stealth game. There are plenty of objects and tools to help players take out enemies, and Styx’s skill tree is improved upon heavily. The game has many problems in terms of its actual combat and the way that combat takes place around the player. The game’s environments and stealth mechanics are great for those that love strictly stealth games and can put up with some hiccups here and there. 9 Volume Volume is a top-down game that is visually stunning and has a strong, enjoyable story about broadcasting virtual heists to put it all together. It feels like a Pac-Man game, but instead of collecting yellow orbs, players must collect diamonds. There are also various types of enemies that must be traversed around differently. The gameplay is key as players can use the surrounding environment as well as the few tools they are equipped with to distract guards and get past them. It’s a lot simpler than many games on this list but filled with heist-like adrenaline. 8 Batman: Arkham Asylum Out of all the Batman games, Batman: Arkham Asylum feels like it focuses on stealth the deepest as there are a lot of areas that absolutely require that gameplay mechanism. If stealth is not used, then brute force will get Batman killed. There are also parts of the game that are heavily focused on combat, but it’s still a stealth game that’s meant to make the player feel like the real Batman. Players will also unlock different gadgets along their journey that add to the diversity of combat and stealth mechanics the game places forward. 7 Dishonored Dishonored made a stealth game that felt heavily inspired by the BioShock franchise and Thief series. Each of the levels feels like a large maze that needs to be stealthily traversed. The game does offer combat options, but a lot of the time, players will have to combine these with stealth elements to take out enemies. The game allows players to complete its entirety without ever killing anyone. Going with an entire pacifist run adds more challenge and thought to the game. However, it’s important to note that killing more people (using stealth) causes some interesting end-game events. 6 Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is probably the best Splinter Cell game in the series. It takes on a true stealth approach. This is not a game that offers the choice of stealth, but that makes the player have to use stealth or risk failing the mission they’re on. There are many different ways for players to view the world they travel in, with night vision, infrared, and emf visions. These different modes allow for different stealth options. This game might not be as large in scale as some other games, but it does everything right in terms of providing a nice variety of stealth options for completing them. 5 Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time continues the story of one of the best platforming stealth series available. The game’s iconic characters emerge to drive the story forward in an interesting tale that surrounds itself with different eras that players must explore. The game allows players to play as all of Sly’s ancestors that he comes across. Each of Sly’s ancestors has different mechanics that specifically pertain to them, like being able to leap to faraway areas and, in a not-so-stealthy approach, pull out a gun to shoot at enemies. It’s a game with a comic-like style and entertaining variety. 4 Deus Ex: Human Revolution Deus Ex: Human Revolution feels like a giant cyberpunk spy mission. The game heavily focuses on stealth and is one of the harder titles on the list. That’s because a lot of the levels in the game require players to act perfectly in each moment, as making mistakes will be heavily punished with quick deaths. The game has a lot of upgrades that augment a player’s main character’s cybernetic body and allow for new stealth options like the ability to breathe in poisonous gas or sprint silently. The game encompasses everything it needs to live up to the definition of “Cool.” 3 Outlast Outlast is a stealth game unlike any other in this list because of its horror gameplay, which provides players with zero ways to fight back against enemies. The game focuses on players needing to sneak around areas while being hunted down by different types of enemies and having to avoid them. Each of the enemies in the game feels like a nightmarish antagonist as players will spend quite a bit of time navigating around them. Outlast is not for those who are squeamish, as the game is meant to horrify players while providing interesting stealth mechanics. 2 Hitman 3 Hitman 3’s gameplay is very similar to that of its predecessors, but the maps feel a lot larger and more alive in how players are able to take on targets. Each area feels like something that players would see in a big-budget film, but players can experience their own espionage-style hits in these large gorgeous settings. Each mission feels like it has more and more to add to the game’s mechanics, and all of this comes together in the game’s final mission. The last mission is a lot tighter in scope but still offers several distinct options to complete it. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has some of the best stealth mechanics ever added to video games. The game feels as though it is intelligently trying to outsmart the player as it will make situations more difficult by strategically place enemies after learning a player’s preferred play style. It’s a game with an open world that allows players to roam through it freely and form their own adventures. It also lets them take on missions in the best ways they see fit, with many players’ choice of completing missions being specific to themselves. There is a lot of attention to detail, as even the weather impacts the flow of combat in the game. NEXT: Most Successful Indie Games

Bidens Anemic Crypto Framework Offered Us Nothing New Cointelegraph
Bidens Anemic Crypto Framework Offered Us Nothing New Cointelegraph
Biden’s Anemic Crypto Framework Offered Us Nothing New – Cointelegraph https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/bidens-anemic-crypto-framework-offered-us-nothing-new-cointelegraph/ The long-awaited cryptocurrency regulation framework released by President Joe Biden’s Treasury Department this month attempted to outline a plan for managing the burgeoning crypto industry. Unfortunately, the department’s assessment failed to embody more substance than a mere mission statement. While Biden’s administration appears to be taking a “whole-of-government approach” toward overseeing the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector and its ripple effects on the traditional economy, they are focused predominantly on defending against negative events — such as financial crime — and failing to facilitate positive events, such as the wealth-building opportunities that crypto offers to Americans excluded from the traditional big-banking system. The new framework was a follow-up to Biden’s executive order in March, titled, “Ensuring Responsible Development of Digital Asset.” Officials focused predominantly on prosecuting money launderers and Ponzi schemers across jurisdictions. That may come as no surprise, considering it was developed as crypto dominoes fell over the summer months. Those included the collapse of Terraform Labs, which led to an Interpol arrest warrant for its founder, Do Kwon; the Celsius Network’s bankruptcy; and the collapse of crypto prices. Nonetheless, these events served the healthy purpose of shaking out bad actors who were in crypto for criminal or self-interested purposes. An effective set of laws related to crypto that prevent illicit activity and promote peer-to-peer financial transactions would work wonders for crypto’s public image. The Biden framework, which is more reactive than proactive, doesn’t achieve that. Related: Biden is hiring 87,000 new IRS agents — and they’re coming for you As a nation, we don’t agree on much these days. We mostly want the United States to remain a global economic superpower, but we differ on how to do it. Stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies dismantle the power of federal currencies and allow individuals to accrue wealth independently, which is exactly why the federal government doesn’t like them. The Biden framework literature suggests digital currency is key to securing America’s future as an economic leader. But if it grants power over crypto to the same authorities who wield power over traditional finance, the status quo isn’t going to change. Instead of establishing the U.S. dollar’s “digital twin,” the government would be better off finding a way to coexist with alternative currencies. The White House’s proposed framework is a fucking disgrace. – Clear attack on proof-of-work by implying they will set environmental standards for mining. – Pushing FedNow over crypto – Framing everything as a potential scam or threat – Harping on volatility and consumer risk — The Wolf Of All Streets (@scottmelker) September 16, 2022 It’s time to move beyond the enforcement of existing regulations and to institute new programs that integrate blockchain technology into areas most in need of disruption, such as healthcare and big business, even if we can’t quite agree on how to address currencies. For example, keeping medical records on a blockchain — like Estonia’s highly advanced e-health system already does — would streamline and secure each person’s health data from birth through death, with each doctor or pharmacist along the way accessing an accurate history to make the best decision. Collecting anonymized, uncorrupted medical data is going to lead to better research, better treatments and more cost-effective health care. Related: Cryptocurrency is picking up as an instrument of tyranny Similarly, putting property and business records on a blockchain would lead to more accountability for big, opaque corporations that make bold claims of charity and sustainability. Such transparency would allow consumers to make more informed decisions about who they buy from — and bank with. The federal government should also nurture blockchain technology by investing in large-scale blockchain projects and incentivizing companies that use it to better serve the public. Going forward, let’s hope both federal and state governments will cooperate to write real crypto industry legislation, not just to mitigate its damage, but to foster its potential. Cryptocurrencies and other digital assets have the capacity to bring wealth-building opportunities to huge swaths of unbanked Americans, break up monopolies, and hold wealthy Goliaths accountable for their business dealings to a degree never seen before. The Biden framework is a lukewarm beginning, but we have a long way to go. Guy Gotslak is the president and founder of the CryptoIRA platform My Digital Money (MDM). The heavily favoured U.S. had started the day with a commanding 8-2 advantage and in position to register a Presidents Cup first – securing the golden trophy on Saturday. But the Americans took their foot of the gas, opening the door for the scrappy Internationals, who split the morning foursomes 2-2 and then took three of four points in the afternoon fourballs to chop the U.S. advantage to 11-7. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com While it was an inspiring performance by the Internationals. they will head into Sunday’s decisive singles still facing a daunting challenge of overhauling a U.S. team that will need just 4-1/2 points from the 12 matches to secure victory. The Internationals, with a record eight Presidents Cup debutants in their 12-man team, were given little chance against a U.S. squad featuring nine of the top 15 players in the world and had looked ready to be steamrollered by the Americans after being routed in the opening two sessions. But International captain Trevor Immelman had vowed his men would fight until the final bell and they have now earned the opportunity to pull off what many believe would be the biggest upset in golf. A long day at the Quail Hollow Club began in the dawn chill and dewy fairways but the early start did not stop fans from packing into the first tee stands, the pro-American crowd sending off captain Davis Love III’s men to what they hoped would be another day of domination. Live Score: UCF Knights Football Vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets – Daytona Beach News-Journal https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/live-score-ucf-knights-football-vs-georgia-tech-yellow-jackets-daytona-beach-news-journal/ The Daytona Beach News-Journal The UCF Knights welcome in their second ACC opponent in three weeks, hungry to treat their fans to a big win in the program’s first Saturday home date of the fall. UCF meets Georgia Tech, an opponent whom they handled 49-21 two seasons ago in Atlanta. Dillon Gabriel tossed four touchdowns for the then-No. 14 Knights as they blitzed the Yellow Jackets for 660 yards of total offense. UCF (2-1) turned in a terrific second half to pull away from upset-minded Florida Atlantic last week in a 40-14 victory. The Knights limited FAU to 18 yards after halftime; John Rhys Plumlee, Isaiah Bowser and RJ Harvey rushed for touchdowns in the victory. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech (1-2, 0-1 ACC) is hoping to shake off a 42-0 home loss at the hands of Ole Miss. Fourth-year head coach Geoff Collins is under tremendous pressure, considering his 10-27 career record and the Yellow Jackets’ lack of competitiveness in the ACC. Follow updates from Daytona Beach News-Journal reporter Chris Boyle down below. KNOW YOUR FOE: Geoff Collins on the hot seat at Georgia Tech ahead of trip to UCF Watch the game: How to watch UCF Knights vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on TV, live stream 6:55 p.m. | John Rhys Plumlee runs for crucial UCF TD UCF’s offense finally broke out of its funk, aided by a pair of 15-yard Georgia Tech penalties, as John Rhys Plumlee sprinted for a 28-yard touchdown to pad the Knights’ lead to 24-10 with 10:37 left. Plumlee has had a tough afternoon as a passer — 7 of 14 for 43 yards and an interception — but he leads the team with 83 rushing yards on 15 carries. Georgia Tech holds the edge in total yards, 373-258, but the Yellow Jackets have been stymied four times in the red zone. It’s hardly a surprise, considering the team’s rankings in Division I FBS entering the day — 121st in scoring, and 126th in total yards per game. 6:40 p.m. | Bizarre two-fumble play leads to Tech FG Well, there’s something you don’t see every day. Georgia Tech appeared poised to take advantage of a short punt with a quick scoring drive, but Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste rocked Jeff Sims to force a fumble at the 10-yard line. Tre’mon Morris-Brash scooped up the ball and rumbled 89 yards — only to be tracked down and stripped by Yellow Jackets wide receiver Nate McCollum. The ball went out of the end zone, resulting in a touchback and Georgia Tech possession. Sims engineered a seven-play, 56-yard drive that resulted in Jude Kelley’s 42-yard field goal. UCF leads 16-10 at the end of three quarters. 6:05 p.m. | Colton Boomer makes 3rd FG for UCF UCF’s placekicking woes appear to be solved. Colton Boomer made his third kick of the day, a 37-yarder, to extend the Knights’ lead to 16-7 with 9:44 left in the third quarter. The Knights produced a nine-play, 55-yard drive to set up the Boomer field goal — highlighted by 15-yard runs for John Rhys Plumlee and RJ Harvey. Georgia Tech went three-and-out on its first possession out of halftime. 5:20 p.m. | UCF reclaims lead with blocked punt TD UCF got a much-needed jolt before halftime, courtesy of its special teams unit. Jarvis Ware blocked a punt, and Quadric Bullard scooped it up for a 29-yard touchdown with 35 seconds left in the second quarter. The Knights are back in front of Georgia Tech, 13-7. The Knights’ offense has been inefficient to say the least, averaging 3.9 yards per play. John Rhys Plumlee is 5-of-11 passing for 41 yards and an interception. 5:05 p.m. | Jeff Sims’ long TD pass gives Jackets the lead Perhaps it’s too early to panic, but perhaps not. Jeff Sims found Malachi Carter in stride for a 59-yard touchdown pass to give Georgia Tech a 7-3 lead over UCF with 5:54 left in the second quarter. UCF marched 71 yards on its first drive, but has 22 on its last two possessions. 4:45 p.m. | John Rhys Plumlee tosses ugly pick near the end zone Georgia Tech came up empty on its first drive when Jude Kelley shanked a 32-yard field goal wide left. UCF failed to capitalize, though, as John Rhys Plumlee tossed an ugly interception to LaMiles Brooks on a deep shot for Ryan O’Keefe. Plumlee is 3 of 7 for 7 yards at the 12:26 mark of the second quarter. The Knights have gained 95 rushing yards on 23 attempts. 4:25 p.m. | Long UCF opening drive ends with field goal UCF drained more than 9 minutes off the clock on its opening possession, but settled for a 21-yard field goal by Colton Boomer to take a 3-0 lead on Georgia Tech. The Knights methodically marched 71 yards in 20 plays, converting a pair of fourth downs. Isaiah Bowser leads the rushing attack with 27 yards on six attempts. John Rhys Plumlee misfired on both of his passing attempts. 4 p.m. | Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste active for UCF Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste returns to the UCF starting lineup after missing last week’s trip to Florida Atlantic to a reported knee injury. Jean-Baptiste, a senior linebacker, participated in pre-game warmups and joined fellow captains Isaiah Bowser, Ryan O’Keefe and Samuel Jackson for the coin toss. Jason Johnson and Walter Yates started in Jean-Baptiste’s absence against FAU. 2:30 p.m. | Kobe Hudson expected to return for UCF UCF will take on Georgia Tech in its first Saturday home game, and final non-conference matchup, of the season at 4 p.m. Saturday. And there will be a welcome addition to the receiving corps as Kobe Hudson is expected to return after a two-game absence due to “personal reasons,” per head coach Gus Malzahn. Hudson is yet to make his first catch for the Knights, but he was Auburn’s leading receiver in 2021. He caught 44 balls for 580 yards and four touchdowns. He’s listed among the starters on the depth chart with Javon Baker and Ryan O’Keefe. Wide receiver Amari Johnson (ankle) are among the notable inactives for the Knights. Tight end Jordan Davis — the younger brother of Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabriel Davis — is set to miss an extended period of time, Malzahn said during Monday’s press conference, after an injury suffered on the opening kickoff of last week’s game at Florida Atlantic.

Analysis: Nevada Emerging As Tightest 2022 Senate Race And That’s A Problem For Democrats – Washington Examiner https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/analysis-nevada-emerging-as-tightest-2022-senate-race-and-thats-a-problem-for-democrats-washington-examiner/ September 24, 2022 04:11 PM Senate Democrats are playing defense in Nevada, a must-win state to hold or expand the party’s current razor-thin majority. A swath of recent polls shows Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto trailing Republican rival Adam Laxalt, a former Nevada attorney general and the scion of a prominent GOP political family. That puts Senate Democrats in a tough position as Election Day nears. The Senate has been split 50-50 since January 2021, with Vice President Kamala Harris giving Democrats the majority through her tiebreaking vote. Democrats are eager to expand that majority by at least one seat and have a good shot in Pennsylvania’s open Senate race. There, Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman leads Republican nominee and former television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz, per recent polls. But a Democratic expansion on that Senate majority relies on the party holding all its current seats. And recent surveys show that Cortez Masto is even more endangered politically than what her Democratic colleagues thought for most of the cycle. Cortez Masto’s seat may even be in the most trouble, including Sens. Raphael Warnock of Georgia, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, and Mark Kelly in Arizona. A Sept. 14-19 poll by Data for Progress, a Democratic-aligned group, found Laxalt leading Cortez Masto, 47% to 46%. A Sept. 17-20 Trafalgar Group poll gave Laxalt a wider lead over Cortez Masto, 47% to 43%. A Sept. 8-10 Emerson/The Hill poll put Laxalt ahead 42% to 41%, while an InsiderAdvantage poll Tuesday also had him up, 46% to 43%. “For those counting at home, that’s 4 polls TODAY showing LAXALT up on Cortez Masto in #nevsen,” tweeted Josh Holmes, the former chief of staff to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and a plugged-in Republican operative. For those counting at home, that’s 4 polls TODAY showing LAXALT up on Cortez Masto in #nvsen — Josh Holmes (@HolmesJosh) September 22, 2022 That hardly means the race is over for Cortez Masto. Nevada is a highly competitive state in 2022, with Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak in a close race against Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, the Republican nominee. And in three of Nevada’s four House seats, incumbent Democrats face well-funded GOP rivals in a trio of races that could go either way. Moreover, Democrats and allies contend the polls are not properly surveying Nevada’s electorate, particularly in the Spanish-speaking communities, which is a similar problem in neighboring Arizona, noted Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg, who has argued for months against the notion of a “red wave” that would sweep Republicans into power on Capitol Hill. “No Spanish interviews in AZ, NV in Data for Progress polling. Problematic,” Rosenberg tweeted. “We know Spanish speakers much more Dem.” No Spanish interviews in AZ, NV in Data for Progress polling. Problematic. We know Spanish speakers much more Dem. — Simon Rosenberg (@SimonWDC) September 22, 2022 Rosenberg also took aim at the Data for Progress numbers, noting the left-leaning firm was wildly off in a recent upstate New York House special election, won by Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan. “Before the freak out about Data for Progress’ new polls begins a reminder that they’ve had the biggest miss of the cycle, calling NY-19 +10 R on Election Day itself when it went +2.2D,” Rosenberg tweeted. Before the freak out about Data for Progress’ new polls begins a reminder that they’ve had the biggest miss of the cycle, calling NY-19 +10 R on Election Day itself when it went +2.2D. — Simon Rosenberg (@SimonWDC) September 22, 2022 Nevertheless, the Nevada Senate race is a new cause for concern for Democrats, a state thought to be going the party’s way. In 2020, President Joe Biden beat former President Donald Trump in Nevada 50.06% to 47.67%, the fourth straight Silver State win by a Democratic nominee. Cortez Masto, who was also a state attorney general, has generally kept a low profile in the Senate term to which she was elected in 2016. On the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, she has worked to block the proposed Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. A former federal prosecutor, Cortez Masto arrived in the Senate in 2017 as former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s hand-picked successor for the seat. Reid knew her late father, Manny Cortez, a longtime chief of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Laxalt also is a familiar figure in Nevada politics. He won Nevada’s attorney general office in 2014, a strong Republican year. Though Laxalt lost a 2018 governor’s race, he has residual name recognition. His grandfather, Paul Laxalt, was a Republican governor of Nevada from 1967-71 and then a senator from 1975-87. (Laxalt’s father was the late New Mexico GOP Sen. Pete Domenici, though his mother raised him as a single parent. Laxalt’s paternity was not acknowledged by his parents until 2013.) For Senate Democrats, any time and resources spent shoring up Cortez Masto’s Nevada reelection bid takes away from other top targets. Their problem is there’s no real choice. There are few, if any, viable paths to a Senate majority without holding on to the Nevada seat. That’s not an ideal place to be heading into the campaign’s final stretch.

The Best Hotels, Restaurants & Leisure Stocks To Invest In Right Now – Best Stocks https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-best-hotels-restaurants-leisure-stocks-to-invest-in-right-now-best-stocks/ The hospitality sector is thriving, with the number of available jobs increasing by almost 10% between 2014 and 2016. So it’s no surprise that investors are flocking to top hotels, restaurants, and leisure stocks to get in on the action. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the global travel and tourism industry is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 4-5% over the next decade. The increased spending power of millennials is also fuelling demand for urban experiences combined with a sense of home. We’ve identified the best hotels, restaurants, and leisure stocks. Hyatt Hotels (H) Hyatt Hotels is one of the largest hotel companies in the world, with over 6,000 hotels and resorts in over 100 countries. The company’s business model is centered around managing hotels for third-party owners, with Hyatt owning only a tiny percentage of its hotels. Hyatt has a strong presence in the US and Asia, with a growing portfolio of upscale properties. As a result, Hyatt is an outstanding long-term stock to buy for several reasons. First, global travel remains strong, with demand expected to grow in Asia in the coming years. Second, Hyatt is well positioned to benefit from rising demand for upscale experiences and a growing millennial segment. Finally, Hyatt’s share price has fallen by almost 30% over the past year, making it a compelling buy for long-term investors. Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV) Hilton Grand Vacations is a real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns and manages Hilton’s vacation ownership and timeshare business. Hilton Grand Vacations holds and contains morholdsan 200,000 units across 90 resorts in 29 countries. Hilton Grand Vacations is the second-largest timeshare company in the world, trailing only Marriott Vacation Club. Hilton Grand Vacations benefits from solid growth in the timeshare market, with the number of vacation ownership sales growing at an average annual rate of 4.3% since 2012. Hilton Grand Vacations is also well positioned to benefit from the rising demand for upscale leisure experiences and the increasing spending power of millennials. As a result, Hilton Grand Vacations is a compelling long-term investment, with the company’s share price down roughly 25% over the past year. Dutch Bros (BROS) Dutch Bros Coffee is a franchised chain of drive-thru coffee shops with more than 400 locations across ten states. Founded in Utah in 1992, Dutch Bros has a distinct, Western theme and serves fresh, gourmet coffee and fresh food items. Dutch Bros has strong unit growth and has expanded from Utah to California and Arizona, with plans to open more than 400 new stores by the end of 2020. In addition, the coffee shop industry has strong long-term growth prospects, as coffee consumption is expected to increase globally. As a result, Dutch Bros Coffee is a compelling stock to buy for several reasons. First, coffee consumption is expected to increase in the coming years, driven by increased coffee exports from Brazil and Ethiopia and rising demand in growing Asian markets. Second, the coffee shop industry is highly fragmented, with no single chain accounting for more than 10% of the market. As a result, Dutch Bros has a solid competitive position. Aramark (ARMK) Aramark is a global leader in food services and uniforms. The company provides food and beverage, health and wellness, facilities management, and other services to food service clients in healthcare, education, sports, and business and industry. Aramark has a strong presence in the US and Europe, with plans to expand its business in Asia. Aramark has a strong addition company in the healthcare sector, where demand for medical services is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Aramark is a compelling stock to buy for several reasons. First, consumers are spending more on experiences rather than material goods. As a result, growth in the leisure and hospitality sector is expected to accelerate significantly in the coming years. Second, Aramark has a solid competitive position and is well positioned to benefit from growth in the food services industry. Summary The hospitality sector is thriving, with the number of available jobs increasing by almost 10% between 2014 and 2016. With increased spending power among millennials fuelling demand for urban experiences, top hotels, restaurants, and leisure stocks are poised to benefit. Hyatt Hotels, Hilton Grand Vacations, Dutch Bros Coffee, and Aramark are great long-term stocks to buy.

Lynchburg-Area Programs, Parks Aim To Encourage Healthy Living – Lynchburg News And Advance https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/lynchburg-area-programs-parks-aim-to-encourage-healthy-living-lynchburg-news-and-advance/ Dr. Cate Varney and P.E. teacher Kelly Walters discuss childhood obesity in Charlottesville, Va. Childhood obesity is a problem around the nation and in Virginia, and the Lynchburg area is no exception. Dr. Michael Jones, a specialist in bariatric medicine at Centra Weight Loss in Lynchburg, described childhood obesity as a significant and growing problem. “It’s really becoming a huge issue,” Jones said. “It is estimated that the current generation of children will be the first generation of children in modern history that have a lower life expectancy than their parents. And we think a very significant percentage of that is the obesity epidemic.” Jones spends a lot of time counseling and working with patients in the Lynchburg area who suffer from obesity and has worked in Lynchburg for almost five years. He said he has become rather passionate about talking to patients who are young parents on addressing their obesity. He uses that as a means of helping their children. “If you have one parent with obesity, you have a greater than 50% likelihood of developing obesity even if you were skinny as a rail all the way up through high school,” Jones said. The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth was established in 1999 by the Virginia General Assembly and encourages youth in the commonwealth to make healthy choices by reducing and preventing tobacco use, substance use and childhood obesity. It did a survey in 2019 in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health, the Department of Education in Virginia and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Michael Parsons, director of programs for Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, said officials went to schools around the state and surveyed high school students ages 15 to 18, using that data to get an idea of what programs could help youth. In the survey from 2019, about 32% of youths described themselves as slightly or very overweight, and about 18% said they were obese.  “Both Southwest Virginia and Central Virginia do have childhood obesity rates that are higher than the statewide average,” Parsons said. Parsons said the group is waiting for updated data to come in from last year, to see the effect the pandemic has had on obesity numbers. “This has not been a normal two-year period, and so I’m not sure what it’s going to show us,” Parsons said. “I don’t know what the impact of school closures or what the impact of a public health pandemic will be on childhood obesity rates,” Parsons said. Lynchburg Parks and Recreation has programs in place around the city for physical activity. Jennifer Jones, director of parks and rec, said one big way the city provides physical activity and infrastructure is through neighborhood centers. There are six such centers: College Hill, Daniels Hill, Diamond Hill, Fairview, Jefferson Park and Yoder in Timber Ridge. Activities at the centers include playgrounds and basketball courts that have been recently upgraded. Lynchburg Parks and Recreation is working on several plans, such as the Jefferson Park Master Plan and the College Park Master Plan. Those efforts are intended to bring new infrastructure, including new sports courts, new ball fields and natural playgrounds. Along with receiving the proper amount of physical activity, Jennifer Jones said eating the right amount of nutritious food is important. To that end, fresh produce is free at all neighborhood centers. “A lot of times what’s missing isn’t necessarily the activity piece, it’s the nutrition piece, and we’ve really focused on making locally grown produce available,” she said. Jennifer Jones also emphasized the educational piece. At the centers, there are programs that teach children how to grow and harvest their own food. There’s also a program called healthy eats in partnership with Virginia Cooperative Extension. In this program, kids learn the importance of healthy eating, the repercussions of not eating healthy and how to cook meals. Also, Jennifer Jones said Lynchburg City Council has adopted in its Lynchburg Plan — a roadmap of how the city will accomplish council’s priorities — a 10-minute walk program, which is the idea of placing a park within a 10-minute walk of every neighborhood. She said this makes people three times as likely to get the recommended physical activity daily. Overall, the parks and rec director emphasized that the department is conscious of this problem. “We’re very conscious of this; health and wellness is one of three pillars in parks and recreation,” Jennifer Jones said. “So you know we are super focused on that.” Get local news delivered to your inbox! Furthermore, players can also get access to some areas through Gordo Slimes, which they cannot go to otherwise. Moreover, you will also come across around sixteen Gordo Slimes in the wild in some range areas. Gordo Slimes are created when several slimes of the same kind mix up. Due to this, slimes cannot move anywhere.  Gordo Slimes are also capable of holding a Slime Key, and players can also get the Static Teleport discovered through it furthermore, if you want to spawn a Gordo on a site of Gadget. However, you would need to get the Gordo Snare by feeding it. It is also important to know that the Gordo that is snared cannot hold any keys. As valuable as they are, knowing the location can be just as difficult. However, in our guide, you will know all about the different Gordo Slimes and their locations. Locations Of Gordo Slime, Rainbow Island. Cotton Slime Gordo The slimes of Cotton are loved by almost everyone in Slime Rancher 2. When you see them, the slimes will remind you of small round bunnies, and it would be very easy to be caring towards them.  Moreover, finding the location of these slimes can be extremely easy as well. To find Cotton Gordo Slime, players can look at the southwestern side of Rainbow Island in the depths.  Cotton Gordo Slime. Just keep walking towards the south from your conservatory; you can also get your map in your hands to find it easily. Furthermore, as a player, you will have to feed the Gordo Cotton Slime hell lots of vegetables to get it defeated. Pink Slime Gordo Finding the Pink Slimes of Gordo is the easiest task in Slime Rancher 2, and they are also very adorable. Players will instantly feel lighter and relaxed when they are in the company of pink Gordon Slimes.  Pink Gordo Slime Players can locate the pink Gordo Slime and move towards the northwestern side of the fields of Rainbow. Check the map once you have walked towards the west from your conservatory. After the players have gotten to the Transfer Refinery icon on the map, keep walking, and you will come across Pink Gordo. To defeat this slime, players can get them to eat any kind of food they can get their hands on and defeat it. The Pink Slime Gordo is not at all choosy. Phosphorus Gordo Slime A very cool and fun slime in Slime Rancher 2 is called the Phosphorus Gordo Slime. The slimes look like bugs of lightning and have these green slugs inside of them, and it is so hard to resist just squeezing and squishing them! They are the kinds of slimes that every player, and we mean including us, would want to have existed in our real world. Finding the location of Pink Slimes would not take much of your time. However, we have described its location of it in detail in our guide.  Once the players are in the conservatory, they should start moving towards the side of the south and stop once they have found a ramp. The ramp will be seen located near a water body. So keep looking for it around the water, and you will find it for sure! Moreover, on the ramp, keep walking downwards, and you will also find a cave. Head inside the cave, and you will see Phosphorus Gordo Slime in there. To get the slime defeated, make sure you feed him tons of fruits.  Hunter Slime Gordo Hunter Slimes Gordo is so cute that the players will love finding them even if they did not offer any special rewards. Also, the locations for finding Hunter Slime Gordo are not that far, nor a difficulty.  However, players need to make sure that they have gotten the region of Starlight Strand unlocked beforehand. After it is accessible, start moving around and discovering more of that place. Along the way, you will lay your eyes on a field where there will be several cute little pink rock slimes everywhere. But you do not have to stop there; keep moving and going further unless you come across a little pathway. On that way, you will see the glorious hunter slime Gordo. Moreover, players need to make sure they got a hand full of meat to defeat the Gordo Slime in the game.  Wrap Up These are all the locations of Gordo Slime in Slime Rancher 2. Make sure to look at all the places mentioned carefully so that you do not miss out on any slime. Get the slime in your hands and beat them by feeding them various foods. Best New Crypto Coin Listing Is Tamadoge The Next Shiba Inu Dogecoin Or GMT Cryptonews
Best New Crypto Coin Listing Is Tamadoge The Next Shiba Inu Dogecoin Or GMT Cryptonews
Best New Crypto Coin Listing – Is Tamadoge The Next Shiba Inu, Dogecoin Or GMT – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/best-new-crypto-coin-listing-is-tamadoge-the-next-shiba-inu-dogecoin-or-gmt-cryptonews/ Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com. Tamadoge (TAMA) will list on OKX exchange Sep 27 at 11:00 UTC and aims to combine the appeal to investors of meme coins like SHIB and DOGE with a P2E game, incorporating metaverse and move to earn mechanics. Is the best new coin listing to watch this week? New crypto TAMA is the in-game currency and rewards token of the Tamadoge battle app, used to mint virtual pets tokenized as NFTs and earnt by players in its ecosystem. This week Capital.com reviewed the Tamadoge project – another indicator its initial exchange offering (IEO) could perform well. OKX New Coin Listing Announcement Next GMT Tamadoge raised 19 million USDT in its token presale in under two months, from July 25 – Sep 18, attracting a high level of investor interest despite crypto prices trending down – Bitcoin and Ethereum are still trading under $20,000 and $1,500 this week. That high demand eclipsed most crypto presales, private sales or initial coin offerings (ICOs) of 2021 or 2022 – for example the STEPN (GMT) token sale raised just $9.2 million, which included investment from crypto VCs such as Binance Labs, Alameda Research, Sequoia Capital and other big names. Coverage in CNBC at the 15 million USDT point may also have helped push the new crypto token’s seed round funding over the finish line a month earlier than planned on the Tamadoge roadmap. Yahoo Finance also highlighted TAMA as early as its beta sale. Across crypto news media, Tamadoge has made headlines in BeInCrypto, Bitcoinist, NewsBTC, The Cryptonomist, ZyCrypto, and others – TAMA combines the most popular sectors of cryptocurrency as a play to earn crypto asset, a meme coin and having upcoming metaverse and move to earn features. GMT at its peak hit a $2.5 billion live market cap – topping out at $4.18 with a circulating supply of 600 million (10% of its total supply, 6 billion). Its ICO price was $0.64, and its bull run took place while the Bitcoin price was in a downtrend – early March to late April 2022. Tamadoge will launch with a 1 billion circulating supply (50% of its total supply of 2 billion), at a listing price of $0.03 – an initial market cap of $30 million. Achieving the same market capitalization STEPN reached eight weeks from its launch would mean a TAMA price target of $2.50, an 83.3x gain.  Today since its correction GMT has a market cap of just over $380 million – which TAMA would hit at $0.38 per token, a 12.6x gain from its listing. Unlike GMT, TAMA is deflationary with an in-built token burn on Tamadoge store transactions – when players upgrade their Tamadoge NFT pets with accessories, or buy dog food. Having a higher percentage of its token supply unlocked at its IEO could also help support the price. Tamadoge also has no expensive barrier to entry like STEPN – in its M2E crypto game, players were required to buy NFT sneakers. The explosive bull cycle of GMT took place during a time period in which NFT sneakers had a floor price of around 12 Solana (SOL) – a testament to how popular apps that pay users in crypto are. Next Shiba Inu Shiba Inu initially dumped after its Binance listing (May 2021, and its Coinbase listing was in January) and hit a low of 0.00000510 USDT four months later in September It then exploded 17.3x to 0.00008854, mostly based on hype and FOMO – since then it has retraced most of its bull run, now trading slightly over 0.00001. At press time the Shiba Inu price is up, however its market structure is still bearish – printing lower highs and lower lows. Even after its approximately 90% correction from the top, Shiba Inu has a market cap of $6.4 billion today and fully diluted valuation (FDV) of closer to $7 billion. All with little utility or incentive to hold SHIB. Tamadoge could potentially be the next cryptocurrency to explode with its Doge aesthetics and more concrete use case, being the native currency of a play to earn crypto game – something Shiba Inu is beginning to explore with the recent launch of its Shiba Eternity P2E game. Next Dogecoin The Dogecoin price is up today by 10% – but at the time of writing its $0.06 – $0.07 price range is an almost 92% retracement from its all time high of $0.74 hit in May 2021 just before Elon Musk appeared on Saturday Night Live. Since launch, the Dogecoin total supply increased from 100 billion to almost 133 billion – DOGE is an inflationary asset with an infinite supply (no maximum supply). That aspect of its tokenomics will have contributed to its correction over the last 17 months. Terra Classic (LUNC) dominating the crypto news headlines in recent weeks for becoming a deflationary asset – the LUNC Burn is again in the news this week, covered on the Binance blog – will have raised awareness for many investors that deflationary cryptocurrency coins are a better investment. Tamadoge could also be predicted to perform well after its initial exchange listing, due to its deflationary tokenomics. Best New Crypto Listing on OKX Tamadoge having its IEO on OKX – with more crypto exchange listings to follow – is another potential bullish catalyst for TAMA being the best new crypto coin to invest in. OKX has an exchange score of 6.1 on CoinMarketCap and a green rating – which CMC only awards to 21 top tier crypto exchanges. That exchange platform score is based on a variety of metrics including how trustworthy and safe an exchange is, its daily trading volume ($1.6 billion in the past 24 hours for OKX), and number of cryptocurrencies listed. Other big names like Bitmex, Delta exchange, Phemex, Bittrex, Poloniex and Bitmart have a lower score and orange rating on CMC. The video above posted to the Tamadoge YouTube channel explains how to buy Tamadoge when it is listed – OKX also has a separate DEX for those unable to use its CEX. Tamadoge will also have its initial DEX offering (IDO) on OKX the same day six hours after the CEX listing (11:00 UTC) at 17:00 UTC. As well as Tamadoge potentially being the best new coin listing this month, new OKX signups have a chance to win a mystery box valued at $10,000. Visit OKX Visit OKX DEX Visit Tamadoge Website

Florida Takes Fight Over Controversial Social Media Law To U.S. Supreme Court – WJXT News4JAX https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/florida-takes-fight-over-controversial-social-media-law-to-u-s-supreme-court-wjxt-news4jax/ Law requires social media companies to host 3rd-party content, puts limits on what they can remove (AP Photo/File) (Uncredited, Copyright 2019 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.) A lawsuit over a controversial Florida law is being appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. It’s centered on SB 7072, branded as an anti-censorship law, that was passed and signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2021. It requires social media companies to host third-party content and puts limits on what sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram can remove for violations. The question, according to attorneys, is whether the state can prevent a tech company from hosting content that it deems inappropriate. The law was passed on the claim that social media companies had been suppressing conservative ideas. The company who sued to block the law said even if tech companies were doing that — that’s their constitutional right. At the signing of the bill, DeSantis said: “If big tech censors enforce rules inconsistently to discriminate in favor of the dominant Silicon Valley ideology, they will now be held accountable.” The law allowed the state government to compel social media sites to host third-party content and placed state limits on how and for what reason a site can remove content. The law was challenged in court by NetChoice, a consortium of some of the biggest names in tech including Google, Amazon, TikTok and Twitter — among many others. Carl Szabo, vice president and general counsel of NetChoice, is a professor at George Mason University. “This law represents government compelled speech, which is a gross violation of the First Amendment,” Szabo told News4JAX. “And likewise, it will force websites to host lawful but awful content, content that we don’t want, like abuse of animals content, like child grooming content, like terrorist recruitment.” And the courts agreed. A district judge ruled the law is unconstitutional and when it was appealed to a higher court, the appeals judge ruled the same way. On Wednesday, the state of Florida appealed the case one more time — to the U.S. Supreme Court, which now has a majority of conservative-leaning judges. Szabo, who identifies as a conservative Republican, said that his is the conservative, constitutionally sound argument. “At the end of the day, conservative principles are centered on letting a private business decide what’s best for its users and its customers,” Szabo said. “And that’s what the First Amendment says too, ultimately. This law will be like requiring Chick-fil-A to be open on Sunday, even though they don’t want to be. And that’s what we’re talking about right here. Is the state of Florida trying to force websites to host content that they don’t want, their users don’t want? And they’re doing what’s best for their business.” It should be noted that DeSantis has two Facebook pages, two Twitter accounts, and a YouTube channel that are all updated regularly. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.   Texas Tech (4-2-4, 0-0-1 Big 12) enters the matchup with nationally ranked Texas (6-1-3, 0-0-1 Big 12) after earning a 1-1 draw with West Virginia Thursday. Molly Skucenski paved the way for Tech after knocking in her first collegiate goal.   The Red Raiders come into Sunday looking for revenge after Texas knocked off Tech for the first time in three years last season.   Scouting the Longhorns No. 25 Texas also earned a draw in its first Big 12 match of the season with No. 12 TCU. Sophomore forward Trinity Byars has heated up offensively after missing the start of the 2022 fall campaign on international duty. The Richardson, Texas, native has now scored a goal in five of the Longhorns last eight matches.   Quick Hitters After three straight matches without a goal (Fullerton, Washington and Saint Mary’s), Texas Tech has now scored in FOUR straight matches. Last season, the Red Raiders offensive attack was led primarily by forward Kirsten Davis. Now in the absence of a leading scorer like Davis, Texas Tech has seven different players who have netted a goal this season. Texas Tech has taken 45 more shots than its opponents. On average, Tech is holding opponents to 6.6 shots per contest while firing off 11.1 shots.   Madison White enters the season ranked fourth in Tech’s career goals against record (0.90), third in career shutouts (22) and seventh in career saves (164). The Red Raiders boast a young roster with the addition of 10 freshmen. Freshman Kylie Bahr is the only freshmen to have started every games so far this season while freshman Peyton Parsons has split starts with junior Jillian Martinez in the midfield. This season’s captains are super senior Charlotte Teeter and fourth-year senior Hannah Anderson. Teeter opened up her last season as a Red Raider with a goal in the opener against Troy while Hannah Anderson netted her first goal of the season at North Texas. The Red Raider backline and goalie Madison White have been the highlight of the season thus far. Tech has allowed just six goals this season and recorded four shutouts. The Red Raider backline has limited five different opponents to less than five shots, including allowing Fresno State to just one shot. The defense has limited seven of their nine opponents to three or fewer shots on goal. Excluding the 2020 conference only seasons due to COVID-19, Tech has recorded at least three shutouts through the opening six games in five straight seasons, dating back to 2017. With the start of Big 12 action this week, Texas Tech ranks second in the league in goals-against average (.600), fourth in save percentage (.812) and second in shutout percentage (.500).  Individually, Madison White ranks second in the league in goalie minutes plater (900:00), second in goals-against average (.600), fourth in save percentage (.800) and first in shutouts (5). 9 Best U.S. Small Towns To Visit In The Fall (2022) TravelAwaits
9 Best U.S. Small Towns To Visit In The Fall (2022) TravelAwaits
9 Best U.S. Small Towns To Visit In The Fall (2022) – TravelAwaits https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/9-best-u-s-small-towns-to-visit-in-the-fall-2022-travelawaits/ Small towns offer a change of pace, inviting you to slow down and relax. They also tend to be charming and friendly. From apple picking in Nebraska City to river rafting in Michigan to a classic autumn in New England, here are the best small towns in the U.S. to visit in fall according to TravelAwaits writers. Leavenworth Reindeer Farm Photo credit: Peggy Cleveland 1. Leavenworth, Washington “Leavenworth, Washington is such a darling small town to visit in the fall. The town’s architecture resembles a German village which was by design to draw in tourists. The last weekend in September and running for three weekends is the annual Oktoberfest which will make you feel like you in a Munich beer hall.” Editor’s note: Leavenworth Oktoberfest will be held in the nearby town of Wenatchee, Washington in 2022. “The weather is still pleasant and you can see some fall foliage as well. I love visiting the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm before the peak Christmas season. It is such a sweet, family-owned business and of course — reindeer!! It’s also apple harvest where you can visit some of the many fruit stands offering fresh-picked fruit and other local products. Leavenworth is on the Cascade Scenic Loop, Washington’s ultimate road trip. The Cascade Mountains are lovely in the fall and there are plenty of opportunities for hiking.” — Peggy Cleveland Striking golden aspens signal autumn in Summit County, Colorado Photo credit: Sandy Bornstein 2. Summit County, Colorado “Late September is the anticipated time for leaf-peeping adventures in Summit County, Colorado, approximately 2 hours from Denver International Airport. Whenever time permits, I take a drive from my metro Denver home to experience the golden-colored Aspen leaves, along with a smaller assortment of orange and red deciduous tree leaves. Each cluster stands against a backdrop of towering coniferous trees, interspersed with rocky mountain peaks. “A wide array of hiking, biking, and horseback trails surround the small towns of Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, and Dillon, along with nearby Keystone Resort and Copper Mountain resort. I appreciate the cooler temperatures and less congested trails. Before the snow begins to cover the slopes for the next ski and snowboarding season, golfers take in their last rounds, water lovers paddleboard and sail on Lake Dillon, and fishermen flyfish in local creeks and rivers. Breckenridge’s festive 3-day Oktoberfest showcases live music, food, and an abundance of local beers.” — Sandy Bornstein Apples ripe for the picking in Nebraska City Photo credit: Lisa Trudell 3. Nebraska City, Nebraska “Nebraska City is the epicenter of the fall season in Nebraska. As the birthplace of Arbor Day, trees are plentiful to enjoy the colors of the season as they change to red, yellow, brown, and orange. For a beautiful view of the changing leaves, tour the grounds of Morton Mansion, once home to J. Sterling Morton, a former territorial governor who founded Arbor Day. Resembling the White House in Washington, DC, the mansion is part of a state park with several acres of trees ripe for fall foliage viewing. The Missouri River Basin Lewis & Clark Visitor Center is another great spot for fall viewing, with wooded areas on bluffs overlooking the river. The river valley is a majestic sight. “Nebraska City celebrates the fall season with apple harvest at its area orchards — Arbor Day Farm, Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard, and Wostrel Family’s Union Orchard. Each orchard features apple picking, with visitors traversing rows of apple trees looking for the perfect specimen to create caramel apple treats, apple pies, crisps, or just to enjoy plain. From Honeycrisp and Granny Smith to Red Delicious, is there anything better than the first crunch as you bite into a freshly-picked apple? “Nebraska City’s orchards take apple harvest season a step higher with nature trails, programs, and unique attractions, such as Arbor Day Farm’s Treetop Village adventure. Nebraska City loves its apples, and celebrates harvest with the annual AppleJack Festival each September, featuring parades, games, and food. Before leaving town, don’t forget to pick up some apple cider, pie, and maybe a dozen apple doughnuts.” — Tim Trudell Cutler-Donahue Bridge Photo credit: JKO Photos / Shutterstock.com 4. Winterset, Iowa “Winterset, Iowa, is one of my favorite small towns in the fall, with the crimson, burnt orange, and amber foliage showcased against the barn red color of the covered bridges and bright blue sky. Located in south central Iowa, about 30 miles southwest of Des Moines, the closest airport is Des Moines International airport (DSM). With the Madison County Covered Bridges Festival at the beginning of October, you’ll find the perfect time to road trip through the county to view the six covered bridges and do some leaf peeping along the way. “My last visit was in May when I stopped by the Speckled Hen Farms and enjoyed a glass of Covered Bridges Wine on their patio. The farm is a tiny, locally owned farm that provides home-grown produce in their farm store. “In downtown Winterset, stop by the John Wayne Birthplace Museum, where you’ll learn about his life from America’s Heartland to Hollywood.” — Amy Piper Main Street in Hartselle during Depot Days, September 2022 Photo credit: Connie Pearson 5. Hartselle, Alabama “Hartselle, Alabama is a charming, historic town in North Alabama that owes its existence to the arrival of the railroad in 1869. Hartselle is proud of famous sons who made their mark in political and literary history. William Bradford Huie, for whom the town library is named, wrote 21 books and hundreds of articles for major newspapers. That winning mentality continues today through the academic and athletic achievements of Hartselle High School students. “Hartselle’s Main Street is the hub of activity with numerous shops, boutiques, and restaurants, and one of the premiere wedding apparel salons in the state. Fall kicks off with the annual Depot Days festival in mid-September, and downtown merchants host Christmas open houses in early November. Hear the train rumble past while you dine at the Freight House Restaurant or enjoy other eateries when you break from shopping the attractive stores.” — Connie Pearson Rafting with Big Bear Adventures on the Sturgeon River in Indian River Photo credit: Amy Piper 6. Indian River, Michigan “My favorite small town to visit in the fall is Indian River, Michigan, located about 30 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge. Because it’s in Northern Michigan, showcasing a variety of hardwoods and state forests, it’s a great place to visit in the fall. The woods are a riot of color. My last visit was in mid-August, as I couldn’t wait for the colors to change in this year-round destination. “Besides driving the country roads, you’ll find several ways to go leaf peeping in Indian River. First, you can take a guided ATV tour with Big Bear Adventures. You have the fun of driving their ATV while their guide drives another, and you follow. You’ll never need to fear getting lost in the woods. “Another way to view the fall color is on a raft trip down the Sturgeon River. Big Bear Adventures also offers these rafting trips, and since the Sturgeon River is only a Class I/II River, it’s easy to view the fall colors as you guide the raft.” — Amy Piper Cider donuts in the making Photo credit: Melody Pittman 7. Alpena, Michigan “Alpena, Michigan, is a great spot to visit in the fall — the drive is beautiful. The things I enjoy in the ‘Sanctuary of the Great Lakes’ are the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center and The Lighthouses at Presque Isle. Take a stroll at Ocqueoc Falls & Bicentennial Pathway, with the largest accessible waterfall in the country. “You’ll want to explore the cute downtown and its shops, too. Try the small plates or GR8 burgers at Fresh Palate in the evening and a beer flight at Hopside Brewery. “Dinosaur Gardens is a fun roadside attraction you’ll take many pictures at. But most importantly, fall means hard cider and cider donuts. You can find them nearby at Knaebe’s Apple Farm & Ciderworks. You could spend hours here — the activities are off the charts. The weekly Alpena Farmers’ Market is another big draw.” — Melody Pittman New River Gorge Bridge Photo credit: Sean Pavone / Shutterstock.com 8. Beckley, West Virginia “Beckley is an excellent leaf-peeping destination in the southern part of West Virginia amidst the Appalachian Mountains and near the New River Gorge Bridge National Park. Explore West Virginia’s coal-mining history at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine, then have an Italian lunch from Pasquale’s. Quench your thirst with craft beer, wine, or coffee at Weathered Ground Brewery, Daniel Vineyards, and Chocolate Moose Coffees, respectively. “Stay at the luxury Resort at Glade Springs, with beautiful golf courses, restaurants, a bowling alley, and dozens more amenities in a gorgeous 4,100-acre rustic setting. No visit would be complete without stopping by Tamarack Marketplace off I-77. This eye-catching facility is full of West Virginia-made crafts, artwork, jewelry, and gourmet foods. Order a WV staple, pinto beans and cornbread, from the onsite restaurant, where the peach cobbler is the star. “Plan your trip around Bridge Day (10/15), which attracts 100K people to watch tandem base jumpers plummet 876 feet from the bridge.” — Melody Pittman Longfellow’s Wayside Inn Grist Mill Photo credit: Jay Yuan / Shutterstock.com 9. Sudbury, Massachusetts “Autumn in New England is one of my favorite times of the year. The air turns crisp and chilly; perfect for apple picking, harvest festivals, and hay rides. Seasonally warm tones of red, burnt orange, and gold cling to the trees and blanket the ground with color. “Sudbury is loca...

When Should You Visit Bali? Here Is Everything To Know TheTravel
When Should You Visit Bali? Here Is Everything To Know TheTravel
When Should You Visit Bali? Here Is Everything To Know – TheTravel https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/when-should-you-visit-bali-here-is-everything-to-know-thetravel/ It is always delightful to visit the gorgeous resort island of Bali, thanks to a myriad of beautiful attractions. From stunning jungles to magnificent beaches to an adorable culture, there is so much to see and do. Travelers can visit Bali and make it a tour of anything they want. A trip to explore the many temples on the island, a spiritual vacation to get an insight into Hinduism or Buddhism, or simply make it a wild adventure, and explore several outdoor opportunities it presents. Visiting at the right time is one of the best ways of preparing for an unforgettable journey to Bali. So, when should you visit Bali? Here is everything to know. Visiting During The Peak Tourist Season Bali’s high season runs from June through August, the busiest time of the year. This is summer, which is like Winter in Indonesia. It is the perfect time to visit this beautiful island for good weather. So, travelers who don’t mind rubbing shoulders on the beaches and high traffic on roads can explore Bali in peak season. July and August are the driest months with splendid temperatures. While the locals consider these months ”cold” because of occasional rains, they are some of the best months if one is looking for warm, dry weather. However, these months can also be the worst time to visit Bali for someone who doesn’t want to deal with crowds and high prices in accommodation and flights. Many tourists flock to the island, hoping to get a taste of the tropical. This is also the holiday period for schools, meaning kids are out of school, and families are making vacation plans. The island quickly gets crowdy and may face serious trouble finding accommodation, even if willing to pay the high prices. The best trick is booking accommodation before traveling to make the price at least better and claim a spot before others take all the available rooms. Indonesia’s Independence Day, on 31st August, and Bali Arts Festival are some of the events to check out when visiting Bali during the peak season. Why it is the best time to visit: good weather for sightseeing and staying outdoors Why it is the worst time to visit: too many crowds, hike in prices Events to check out: Indonesia’s Independence Day, Bali Arts Festival Book accommodation and flight at least two months before traveling to avoid missing a room or paying more by 30% or 50%. When To Visit Bali On A Budget The low season in Bali is the cheapest time to visit, which can also be rainy. While rain doesn’t make for an enjoyable vacation, especially on the beach, one advantage of exploring the island at this time better deals on flights and accommodation. Travelers will get elegant rooms for the same price they’d pay for a budget hotel or lesser. So, if visiting Bali on a budget is the goal, then the low season runs from March through May. January and February are also affordable months to visit because they are rainy, so there won’t be crowds seeking good weather for a beach vacation. January is the rainiest month in Bali. Travelers will also enjoy fewer crowds in the low season, making it the perfect time to explore Bali’s popular attractions such as Ubud and Goa Gajah. Vacationers may have to wait outside during the high season before they get a chance to explore these attractions. When Is Bali Least Busy? Bali receives the least number of tourists from Mid-January through June. November and December are the months filled with many events, holidays, and festivals, but usually thin out at the end of the celebrations. The island remains calm until around July when tourism peaks. During this period, the weather is generally mild, with January through March being quite rainy. For a perfect mix of fewer crowds and good weather, try visiting between mid-to-late March, April, and May. From June, the island begins to experience more tourists, but it is until July that things take off. So, anytime within the first half of the year, travelers will only deal with a handful of crowds and enjoy the best deals on hotels and flights. When To Go Hiking In Bali If looking for a time for the perfect hiking adventure, visit before the rainy season starts. April through October is the best time to go hiking. The rainy season can also work for hiking, but it is challenging because vacationers will have to check for the weather constantly. Taking a short stroll on some sunny mornings in the rainy seasons is possible. But if visiting exclusively for a hiking adventure or visiting the beach, then the dry season is a perfect time. Mount Batur is the most recognized hike on the island, and hiking is among the best things to do when visiting Bali. May through September is the best time to hike this mountain for good weather and breathtaking views from the summit. Standing at 5,633 ft, Mount Batur is a must-visit on a Bali vacation. When Is The Best Time To Explore Bali? The best time to visit Bali is during mid-to-late March, April, and May because it gives vacationers a perfect mix of good weather, fewer crowds, and better rates on accommodation and flights.

Decentralized Blockchain Protocol BZeroX Fined $250000 For Illegal Trading – Tech Business News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/decentralized-blockchain-protocol-bzerox-fined-250000-for-illegal-trading-tech-business-news/ bZeroX LLC and its founders were fined $250,000 in an enforcement action against the blockchain protocol Ooki DAO, its successor and an independent decentralized organisation. bZeroX and its founders, Tom Bean and Kyle Kistner, were fined by the CFTC for operating an organisation that provided leveraged and margin trading of digital assets without complying with the Banking Secrecy Act’s “Know Your Customer” identification program. The CFTC also filed suit versus Ooki DAO, the successor to bZeroX, for breaking the same laws and the government claimed that bZeroX transferred control of the bZx protocol to bZx DAO and then subsequently renamed it Ooki DAO in order to avoid being prosecuted. Bean and Kistner both oversaw the development of bZx protocol, a decentralized protocol for lending, trading, interest generation and other financial activities on the blockchain. A DAO is an autonomous organisation with no central leadership where decisions are made through community governance controlled by blockchain protocols and code. Members of the community earn a stake in the DAO by holding cryptographic tokens that allow them to vote on proposals submitted by other members. CTFC Chairman Rostin Behnam says the actions demonstrate the CFTC’s commitment to aggressively pursuing individuals and operations that purposefully seek to evade regulatory oversight at the expense of retail customers  “I commend our dedicated enforcement team for pursuing this scheme which touches on many areas of concern regarding this growing market.” says Behnam. Commissioner Summer Mersinger, however, did not concur with the commission’s decision and published a dissent stating her opposition. She concurred that the commission should target bZeroX as a company and its founders as liable parties because of their involvement, but she disagreed with targeting Ooki DAO and its token holders. “The CTFC did not have the legal authority to punish the DAO, whereas token holders were unfairly targeted. says Mersinger, ” Recently, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned Tornado Cash, a decentralized cryptocurrency mixing service allowing users to anonymize the origins of funds after accusing the service of hiding the proceeds of at least $7 billion worth of virtual currency from criminal activities since 2019. Kirklees Councils Cabinet Approves New Guidance Around Opening Hot Food Takeaways Across The District Dewsbury Reporter
Kirklees Councils Cabinet Approves New Guidance Around Opening Hot Food Takeaways Across The District Dewsbury Reporter
Kirklees Council’s Cabinet Approves New Guidance Around Opening Hot Food Takeaways Across The District – Dewsbury Reporter https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/kirklees-councils-cabinet-approves-new-guidance-around-opening-hot-food-takeaways-across-the-district-dewsbury-reporter/ It will provide support to applicants who are hoping to open a new business premises of this type in the borough, by guiding them through all the relevant issues that might affect their application. The proposed changes will affect the locations where planning permission can be granted for hot food takeaways. The new rules will generally apply to proposals for brand new hot food takeaways as opposed to existing ones. However, there are instances where they will impact takeaways already trading in hot food. The guidance has been approved to help improve the health and well-being of residents across Kirklees. Coun Graham Turner, cabinet member for growth and regeneration, said: “We want to develop policies which will work for Kirklees as a whole, helping revitalise our high streets. “The distribution of businesses has huge power to affect an area’s overall offering, and the wellbeing of those who live and work there. “With this new guidance, our aim is to help the local takeaway industry thrive, without perpetuating some of the negative impacts we’re currently seeing on local communities. “We’ll be providing the best possible guidance for anyone looking to make a planning application, being clear about our policies but also clearly laying out the pathways to success.” The guidance is in line with the overall Council Plan, the Kirklees Health and Wellbeing Plan, and the Healthy Weight Declaration. One of the main aims of these changes is to improve the overall health and wellbeing of Kirklees residents. The supplementary planning document includes new guidance around selling takeaway hot food near schools, which is particularly important in Kirklees, as around one in four reception-age children are clinically overweight. As well as health impacts, the new guidance recognises the large role of hot food takeaways in town centres and other key areas across Kirklees, and the need for these areas to offer variety for residents, visitors and businesses. By limiting the number of businesses of this type in one area, Kirklees Council can further promote vibrant, varied town centres with a wide range of businesses and offerings. The council also aims to limit the impact of hot food takeaways on people living and working in the district by providing guidance on issues relating to highway safety, noise and odours, waste disposal and community safety. Coun Musarrat Khan, cabinet member for health and social care, added: “The health and wellbeing of residents is, as always, the council’s top priority. “By encouraging businesses to offer more healthy menus and normalising healthier eating, we can increase life expectancy and reduce the risk of serious illness. “Where we can do more to encourage healthy living, we have that responsibility. “This is particularly crucial when thinking about our children in Kirklees. Over the last few decades, so much has been done to make sure children eat healthily while they’re in school – we should be thinking more widely and extending this to the environment beyond our local schools. “We have a responsibility to tackle growing childhood obesity rates in every way we can.” Now that the Hot Food Takeaway supplementary planning document has been approved, this guidance will be adopted going forward and will apply to all future planning applications around hot food takeaways in Kirklees.

Clemson’s defensive backs are continuing to lose these one-on-one battles, but what’s even more concerning for the Tigers was how Wake Forest had success running the ball on that last drive. If Wake can burn clock and still deliver the kill shot touchdowns, the fourth quarter could become problematic for the No. 5 team in the country.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Clemson ties it up 3Q: Clemson 28, Wake Forest 28 The Tigers had not been in the end zone since the 5-minute mark of the first quarter, but after falling behind by eight DJ Uiagalelei offered a resounding response with a 9-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Davis Allen and a successful two-point conversion pass to Beaux Collins. Wake Forest had a couple key defenders shaken up on that drive and Clemson took advantage, converting on two key third downs to set up the game-tying score.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Upset alert sirens officially on in Winston-Salem 3Q: Wake Forest 28, Clemson 20 That’s three straight touchdown drives for Sam Hartman and the Wake Forest offense, who extend the lead to 28-20 with a brilliant third down touchdown pass to Blake Whiteheart. Hartman is lighting up this Clemson secondary, currently totaling 234 yards and four touchdowns on 15-for-21 passing, and the Demon Deacons have not punted since the 12:56 mark of the second quarter. Clemson looked hot early with that 14-0 lead, but it’s been all Deacs since then and if DJ Uiagalelei can’t lead a touchdown drive here we could see it get sideways for the No. 5 team in the country.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Deacs take the lead 3Q: Wake Forest 21, Clemson 20  After Clemson’s second half opening drive ends in a punt, Sam Hartman marches Wake Forest right down the field for a go-ahead touchdown! The drive took just 4 plays and 80 seconds, starting with a 25-yard run by Hartman and ending with a 28-yard pass to Donavon Greene.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Clemson stalling in the red zone  2Q: Clemson 20, Wake Forest 14  The last two times Clemson has reached the red zone the Tigers have had to settle for field goals after the Wake Forest defense has won third down. The Demon Deacons’ defensive line has done a good job of getting pressure on DJ Uiagalelei in these red zone situations, but ultimately it was a miscommunication between DJU and Joseph Ngata that prevented a real shot at the end zone before halftime. After starting 7-for-7, Uiagalelei has completed just 7 of his next 15 attempts and seen his completion percentage drop to just 64 percent for the game.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Wake Forest cuts the lead to 3  2Q: Clemson 17, Wake Forest 14 Clemson’s secondary is having trouble keeping up with Wake Forest’s wide receivers. Two pass interference penalties and a 30-yard pass from Sam Hartman to Jahmal Banks set the Demon Deacons up close to the goal line and then another short toss to Banks cut the Clemson lead to just three. It’s now 14-3 Wake Forest since that early Clemson lead, and the Tigers would be best served to put together a long touchdown drive here before halftime because the Deacs are moving the ball at will right now.  Pinned Pinned Wake Forest stands tall near the goal line  2Q: Clemson 17, Wake Forest 7 DJ Uiagalelei moved Clemson into scoring position quickly on a beautiful 39-yard pass to Antonio Williams, but the Tigers ended up stalling on 3rd and goal and settling for the chip-shot field goal to end the drive and extend their lead. With 7:49 remaining it’s likely Clemson will get at least one more possession before halftime, but whether the deficit remains at 10 is dependent on how Sam Hartman operates the Deacs offense on this next drive.  Pinned Pinned Pinned See More

Apple IPhone 14 Pro Max Review: As Good As A Pro IPhone Can Get For Another Year XDA Developers
Apple IPhone 14 Pro Max Review: As Good As A Pro IPhone Can Get For Another Year XDA Developers
Apple IPhone 14 Pro Max Review: As Good As A Pro IPhone Can Get For Another Year – XDA Developers https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/apple-iphone-14-pro-max-review-as-good-as-a-pro-iphone-can-get-for-another-year-xda-developers/ Apple has been launching “Pro” iPhones since 2019’s iPhone 11 series, but it wasn’t until this year’s iPhone 14 Pro phones did it really put meaningful separation between the Pro and non-Pro iPhones. Some of this separation is due to true innovation: the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max introduce a whole new user interface that has generated discourse through the tech industry over the past couple of weeks, and will very likely inspire sweeping changes to Android phones’ UI in the near future. The Pro iPhones also introduce the most pixel-dense camera ever to an iPhone, one that opens up a new optical zoom length and raises the ceiling for what professionals can do in terms of photo editing. The other separation factor, however, is due to cut-throat business tactics: Apple decided to recycle last year’s silicon for the standard iPhone 14 devices, so only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max get the new A16 Bionic chip. These decisions should make the Pro iPhones more popular than in previous years, and the good thing for consumers is, Apple has mostly delivered on the hype. I’ve been using the iPhone 14 Pro Max for eight days, and this is easily the best iPhone Apple has released in a while, and the one most deserving of the “Pro” moniker. The big question for me, however, is if it improves enough to sway me from my preference for Android and foldable phones. By the way: other than screen and battery sizes, both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are identical. So even though I have only tested the 14 Pro Max, most of this review applies to the smaller iPhone 14 Pro too. The company did not have any input in this article. Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: Design and Hardware Virtually same size, construction, and in-hand feel as iPhone 13 Pro Max The brightest screen in the industry — perfectly usable even under the harshest sunlight Even though the iPhone 14 Pro Max brings several significant hardware improvements over the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the new phone looks and feels remarkably similar to the last generation. Overall dimensions are virtually identical save for a few millimeters and grams, and the same “Ceramic Shield” (reinforced glass) and stainless steel sides wrap around the new model. All the buttons and the alert slider are in the same spots as before. In other words, if you’ve held or seen up close an iPhone 13 Pro Max (heck, even an iPhone 12 Pro Max), the 14 Pro Max will feel very familiar. At 240g and measuring 77.6mm (a bit over three inches) wide, this is objectively a big phone, and because of the hard flat sides, it’s even more unwieldy to hold than, say, a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. If you are considering the 14 Pro Max but have not held the 12 or 13 Pro Max before, I’d recommend checking the device out in stores to decide if you can handle the bulk. If not, the standard iPhone 14 Pro is more manageable with a weight of 206g and 71.5mm (roughly 2.8-inches) wide. Do note the flat sides with sharp corners will dig into you palm, so I’d recommend using this phone with a good case. The biggest visual change, of course, is the much-discussed pill-shaped cutout, which replaces the notch as a means to house Apple’s TrueDepth camera system. By now almost everyone reading this would know Apple has designed an interactive UI named “Dynamic Island” that gives off the illusion that the cutout can change shapes and sizes. Dynamic Island is more of a software feature, so I’ll discuss this in the appropriate section further down. Display The 6.7-inch OLED display is noticeably brighter this year, with the ability to get up to 2,000 nits in brightness. This is the brightest display in any smartphone yet, and it’s so bright that when you’re using it indoors, you probably won’t need to go above 25% brightness. For most of these product shots, I actually had to lower screen brightness to 10-15% just to ensure the screen wouldn’t appear blown out (too bright) in photos. This is the brightest display in any smartphone yet The switch from the notch to the island cutout means the interruption in the screen is different from before. Some people, like my colleague Karthik, argue having a floating island that actually sits further down the screen than the notch is more distracting than before. I don’t disagree with him, but for some reason, I think a separated island cutout feels cleaner than a notch that connects to the top bezel. The literal “always on” display The iPhone 13 Pro phones had already made the switch to an LTPO panel which means the refresh rate can dynamically adjust itself to conserve energy. But Apple says this year’s Pro screens got even better at conserving energy, which allowed the company to finally introduce an Always-On Display (AOD). On Android, the AOD (first introduced to modern Android phones in 2016’s LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S7) is almost always a black screen with text for time, notification icons, and maybe a bit more information like the next event on your calendar. Oppo’s ColorOS 13 has added some flair to the AOD by giving it a more colorful layout with full music player controls, but fundamentally, it’s still a minimal black screen with only bits of crucial information on display. Apple’s take on this? It is to take the “Always-On” part literally: your entire lockscreen just dims a bit when the phone is locked and not in use. You can still clearly see the wallpaper and whatever widgets you’ve chosen for the lockscreen. That Apple can do this without negatively impacting the iPhone 14 Pro phone’s battery is an impressive technical feat — it’s not just that the LTPO panel can get as low as 1Hz — plenty of Android phone screens can do this too — it’s also that Apple has dedicated a small part of its A16 Bionic processor to controlling the AOD. Apple even has built-in smart features that will automatically turn off the screen entirely if the iPhone owner is wearing an Apple Watch and has left the room in which the iPhone rests. However technically impressive it is, I am not a fan of the AOD being this always on. To have the wallpaper visible, and even album cover art if you last had Spotify or Apple Music opened is a bit distracting for me. For example, if I’m watching a movie in a dark room and my phone is face up, I would still be able to see my wallpaper and widgets in my peripheral vision. The photo below? That’s the AOD at work — the phone was locked when the photo was snapped. This is also an Always-On Display on a sleeping iPhone 14 Pro Max. Silicon: A16 Bionic The iPhone 14 Pro Max runs on the Apple A16 Bionic, it’s a 4nm, six-core SoC with 16 billion transistors (1 billion more than the A15 Bionic), and it is simply the most powerful chip in mobile, beating anything in Android, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. The A16 Bionic consists of two performance cores and four efficiency cores, with a five-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Perhaps more importantly, Apple increased the GPU’s memory bandwidth by 50%, which helps the new ISP (image signal processor). What does this all mean in real-world usage? To be honest, for most normal smartphone users, it does not mean all that much. We are at a point where mobile silicon has gotten more than powerful enough for most people. If you’re like most people whose smartphone usage...

How Crypto Is Playing A Role In Increasing Healthy Human Lifespans Cointelegraph
How Crypto Is Playing A Role In Increasing Healthy Human Lifespans Cointelegraph
How Crypto Is Playing A Role In Increasing Healthy Human Lifespans – Cointelegraph https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/how-crypto-is-playing-a-role-in-increasing-healthy-human-lifespans-cointelegraph/ It’s a question that’s infatuated scientists for decades: how can we prolong life expectancy — giving humans everywhere more years of good health? This field is known as longevity science, and within this industry, experts argue care which regards ageing as a normal but treatable ailment are rare — and of the approaches available, they can only be accessed by those who are highly educated and privileged. Just some of the key tenets that govern this approach to medicine involve therapeutics, personalized medicine, predictive diagnostics and artificial intelligence. The goal is to eliminate a “one size fits all” attitude toward treatment, and ensure that therapies are customized to an individual’s unique medical profile. This can matter in many different ways — to the best method for tackling cancer, to the food we eat and our risk of heart disease. And while predictive diagnostics offers an existing way of unlocking better patient outcomes, this often hinges upon using large amounts of anonymized data to determine what’s happened in the past, and how greater levels of success are achieved in the future. Bizarrely, there are parallels between cryptocurrencies and longevity science. You could argue that this approach to medicine is currently where digital assets were back in 2013 — a time when crypto discussion was confined to online message boards, niche group chats and convoluted whitepapers. Longevity researchers are excitedly sharing their findings with one another — and collaboration is taking place across sectors. Experts are keen to ensure that anyone with an interest in this nascent field can get involved and contribute. Educating the masses As in the crypto industry, a big challenge that longevity science faces is education — and simply explaining this concept to the public. This is a journey that takes time, effort, money and patience. Because of this, a dedicated event has been established so this cutting-edge concept can be discussed in an open forum. The Longevity Investors Conference is set to take place in Switzerland from Sept. 28-30. It’s being sponsored by Credit Suisse, and tickets can be paid for in cryptocurrency. It’s being organized by Marc P. Bernegger. He’s a founding partner of Maximon — a Swiss company that invests and builds in longevity-focused companies. Bernegger explored Bitcoin in 2012 and told Cointelegraph: “There is room for everyone. We can all travel the same path but take different approaches. It’s still the same narrative.” Just some of the items on the agenda include exploring the scientific meaning of longevity — and how this will affect individuals around the world in the long run. Discussions will also be held on how to cultivate investment in this fledgling space, and according to Bernegger, this is a field that’s of great interest to crypto enthusiasts. The conference aims to build bridges, and highlight how scientists play a vital role in ensuring that we can all benefit from longer lifespans and a healthy retirement. While there are business opportunities to be found, investors face a challenge because they’re not from a scientific background. Likewise, bright minds often need an entrepreneurial perspective in order to bring their genius concepts to market. Bernegger added: “There are a number of different perspectives — the entrepreneurs, the scientists, investors who bring money. They need a combination of everything. This sector appreciates new players. The more money there is, the more smart and serious people you have, the better. The industry is still finding itself. It is accessible now, and people are happy to help.” Why crypto is a good match It’s the science element that’s attracting early adopters of cryptocurrency to this space. The reason is simple: because many of these enthusiasts are forward looking, open minded and technology driven. Describing the initial days of crypto, Bernegger explained: “They were all in for the technology. It was not just speculative. They saw the potential of a peer-to-peer solution, and now they see the potential with regard to ageing.”  Indeed, blockchain technology also has the potential to enhance the quest to achieve longevity. Decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) have already been established that are funding research to support and commercialize therapeutics. This approach also ensures that donors can vote on the future direction of research projects. Even though the bear market has cast a long shadow over the crypto sector, many of those in this industry are firmly in the “BUIDL” phase. They’re using this opportunity to innovate, cultivate new products, and develop the trends that will drive the next bull run. Longevity science can be one of them — and according to Bernegger, pioneers know that paying close attention to health is far more important than the value of any token.  We already know that the rate of ageing can be controlled, to some extent, by genetic pathways and biochemical processes. But in the coming decades, there are still so many questions to be answered — and dots to be connected — in the quest to improve our quality of life, and ensure that anyone can access it.  The Longevity Investors Conference says attendance will be strictly limited to 100 hand-picked delegates, and they’ll be able to benefit from the insights of over 30 outstanding speakers. U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores Says She Fired Aide After Sexual Harassment Allegations – The Texas Tribune https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/u-s-rep-mayra-flores-says-she-fired-aide-after-sexual-harassment-allegations-the-texas-tribune/ Sign up for The Brief, our daily newsletter that keeps readers up to speed on the most essential Texas news. U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores, R-Los Indios, said Saturday that she fired a former staffer after he was accused of sexual harassment, though her campaign previously said he had resigned. Aron Peña, who served as district director for the newest Texas Republican in Congress, left the campaign after far-right website Current Revolt and Texas Public Radio reported on sexual harassment allegations against him spanning decades. The Texas Tribune also reported earlier this month that the Texas Republican Party had investigated Peña over sexual harassment allegations and that he was accused of touching and kissing an intern without her consent. Peña dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, but Flores’ campaign called the accusations “serious and not a reflection of our values” in response to the Tribune’s reporting. In response to a question Saturday at The Texas Tribune Festival on workplace sexual harassment in politics, Flores said Peña had been fired. “First thing we were made notified, he was gone,” Flores said. “We will not tolerate any of that behavior.” Flores spokesperson Daniel Bucheli previously told the Tribune in a statement, “We addressed the allegations as soon as we were made aware, and Mr. Peña resigned.” Peña did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Flores’ Saturday remarks. Speaking of sexual harassers, Flores said, “We fire them. My opponent hires them” — an apparent dig at U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, Flores’ opponent in her competitive race for the 34th Congressional Sistrict. Gonzalez came under fire after his campaign paid for advertising on a Texas political blog that employed racist and sexist language to describe Flores. Gonzalez denied knowing about the blog content at the time and vowed not to give it any more campaign money. Flores has since insisted that Gonzalez hired the blogger to sexually harass her with racist tropes. Flores was speaking at a panel with U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, and Texas Monthly editor Jack Herrera on Republican gains in the traditionally Democratic stronghold of South Texas. National Republicans are zeroing in on the region as rich fodder for new GOP seats, tapping into the area’s economic concerns, conservative social values and proximity to the border. Disclosure: Texas Monthly has been a financial supporter of The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization that is funded in part by donations from members, foundations and corporate sponsors. Financial supporters play no role in the Tribune’s journalism. Find a complete list of them here. The Texas Tribune Festival is here! Happening Sept. 22-24 in downtown Austin, this year’s TribFest features more than 25 virtual conversations with guests like Eric Adams, Pete Souza, Jason Kander and many others.
