Reason For Closed Tiny Council Meetings: Technology – MidlandToday https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/reason-for-closed-tiny-council-meetings-technology-midlandtoday/ Livestreaming component of township hardware busted during CIVUD, difficult replacement part for hybrid meetings the reason for delay in re-opening to public, says staff What was interesting was that Mayor George Cornell was ill, attending the virtual committee of the whole meeting through a remote hybrid process from his own home, when he brought up the discussion. At the recent meeting, Tiny council heard from staff as to why the council chambers hadn’t been open to the public since the COVID-19 pandemic had changed the way municipalities handled in-person meetings. “The technical issues are stemming from a part that we ordered,” said director of finance/treasurer Haley Leblond. “It’s a motherboard that allows the system in the council chambers to have electronic participation, as well as in-council participation, without the need for extra laptops, without the need for your headsets, people can go up and do deputations to council at the podium. This specific part is very hard to get due to COVID and its coming from China,” she added citing delivery issues. Without disclosing the cost of the component, staff merely stated that it was expensive to replace. A hybrid workaround was discussed, but Leblond advised that the training period for the public to use chamber equipment for deputations as an example, along with the requirement for technology like laptops and headphones, as well as the cleaning procedures between public usage also consisted of the challenge. Cornell followed up by asking if there could be a return to the normality of pre-pandemic meetings that were live-streamed. “My understanding of part of the challenge,” replied CAO Robert Lamb, “is the motherboard that went down on us is the part that allows it to be live-streamed. “That is a part that, as they were doing updates and changes to our system a year ago, just stopped working.” Lamb also explained that while on back order, the company had stated the component would arrive shortly only to delay it further in a repeating manner. “At the moment we do not have the ability to live-stream other than the way we are currently doing it.” Lamb noted that the vendor had not provided an estimated time of arrival for the ordered part, and exploration for different solutions could potentially double what was originally anticipated. “There will be a budget implication – hopefully not one that is above the lame duck threshold that we’ll also have to take into consideration – because we did not budget for this type of technology above and beyond the repair that’s currently in the budget,” said Lamb. Coun. Cindy Hastings asked if there was any similar equipment that could be temporarily rented in the interim, giving a small chuckle as if the response would be a similar technological deficiency. However, Leblond appeared genuinely surprised by the question and gave it some thought. “That option, I have not explored,” admitted Leblond. “That’s a great question. I’ll certainly ask the vendor; I would have thought they would have offered that solution if there was one to be offered.” Coun. Gibb Wishart, while sympathetic to in-person attendance, urged safety over all other aspects. His remarks prompted Deputy Mayor Walma to ask clerk Sue Walton if livestreaming could be removed from the chamber process, similar to pre-pandemic meetings. Walton noted that the formal record of council and committees was through recorded minutes, but said she would need time to consider the policies on livestreaming; Walma pulled back stating that the trade off from livestreaming would be public access to the meetings. CAO Lamb offered to extend the conversation to the next committee of the whole to get a full update. With the municipal term coming to a close and many committees only having roughly one meeting remaining before next month’s election, council additionally approved giving the various committees the option to return to an in-person meeting at their discretion as a gesture for those wanting to see each other face-to-face possibly for one last time. Archives of council meetings are available to view on Tiny Township’s YouTube channel.

Losses Add Up As Clark County Businesses Deal With Surge In Shoplifting – The Columbian https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/losses-add-up-as-clark-county-businesses-deal-with-surge-in-shoplifting-the-columbian/ Published: September 24, 2022, 6:03am This article is available exclusively to subscribers like you. 4 Photos Jullienne Adams of LiquidNation Liquidators looks over a sign posted in the front door that discourages shoplifting. Retail thefts are up this year compared to last year, according to the Vancouver Police Department. (Amanda Cowan/The Columbian) Photo Gallery As owner of LiquidNation Liquidator in central Vancouver, Jullienne Adams has seen her share of mysteriously empty boxes and items turning up missing during inventory. But about a year ago, her struggle with shoplifters took a turn for the worse. “One of the biggest things we had was the smash and grab, where they smashed our front window and took our electric bikes,” said Adams. “That was the most guttural and shocking,” said Adams. She lost more than $10,000 that day. Adams’ business at 717 Grand Blvd. in Vancouver is a small, family-owned operation. She isn’t backed by insurance or big banks. So, she began putting signs up all over the store saying just that. “It will destroy me, if you shoplift,” she said. Theft rates up Retail thefts and shoplifting are up over last year, according to data from the Vancouver Police Department. “Although numbers are significantly higher this year than last, we are on a downward trend that we hope continues,” said Kim Kapp, police spokeswoman. The police department “has conducted retail theft enforcement emphases, and additional emphases to reduce these crimes that are planned.” The Clark County Sheriff’s Office data also shows a significant increase in reports of shoplifting and thefts with a shoplifting charge. Between Sept. 1, 2018, and Aug. 31, 2019, there were 116 reports with the department. There were 204 between Sept. 1, 2021, and Aug. 31, 2022. Even these numbers don’t give a full picture of the problem, said Sgt. Christopher Skidmore, public information officer for the department. “Many shoplifting calls to 911 come from other citizens and not from stores directly,” said Skidmore. “Sometimes, we don’t respond to these if we are on other calls, there is limited identifying information or the suspects had already left,” Skidmore said. “Also, many stores won’t seek to prosecute shoplifting, so we won’t take a report in those cases, and other stores only will if a loss prevention employee is on duty at the time.” The Columbian is becoming a rare example of a news organization with local, family ownership. Subscribe today to support local journalism and help us to build a stronger community. Skidmore said the increased thefts seem to be happening as so many businesses are struggling with staffing. Armed security At the Target at Cascade Station in Portland, patrons can see a security SUV parked outside the store with the words International Protective Service printed on the side. Inside the store, there are indications it has struggled with theft. In the tooth care aisle, the shelves that once held electric toothbrushes are empty. In their place sits a sign directing those interested in buying one to acquire it from staff. After checking out, customers walk past an armed security guard standing in front of the door. Jeffery Temple, director of corporate affairs for Fred Meyer, said the company has seen a significant increase in shoplifting, organized retail theft and other crimes over the past few years. He said the company had seen the largest concentration of increased shoplifting and organized retail theft along the Interstate 5 corridor, mostly around Portland and Seattle. Temple said Fred Meyer has been partnering with law enforcement to place off-duty officers in its stores. The partnership has “had some impact upon the shoplifting and (organized retail theft) issues,” said Temple. “These locations still experience thefts, but they are minimized by the officer presence.” Temple said Fred Meyer has also increased its investments in security measures. “We are requesting help from state and local governments and authorities,” he added. Shopping cart and basket thefts have been an ongoing problem, Temple said. “We are continuing efforts to try and mitigate this issue,” he said. Fred Meyer is working with folks to help retrieve the carts that have been taken from their stores. Not all shoplifters are caught and charged, said Temple. “We do work with law enforcement (organized retail theft) investigators to try to identify and apprehend repeat offenders,” he told The Columbian. Fred Meyer also works closely with other retailers and district attorneys and is pursuing statewide organized retail theft coalitions in the Northwest. Washington has such an alliance, the Washington Organized Retail Crime Association. The organization was founded in April 2021 to foster “partnerships between law enforcement professionals and loss preventions professionals to provide training, combat organized retail crime and other crimes impacting the business community,” reads its website. “The partnership will aid in the sharing of cross-jurisdictional information to help identify, disrupt and apprehend (organized retail crime) suspects in Washington and other states.” Options are fewer for smaller businesses like LiquidNation, but Adams said the signs have helped a little. Adams has paid for everything in her shop, hoping that someone will want it. An item stolen translates into a loss for her and a good that can’t be sold to customers. “It will put us under if it continues,” Adams said.

Uniworld Is Accelerating Its Partnership With Luxury Rail Operator Golden Eagle Travel Weekly
Uniworld Is Accelerating Its Partnership With Luxury Rail Operator Golden Eagle – Travel Weekly https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/uniworld-is-accelerating-its-partnership-with-luxury-rail-operator-golden-eagle-travel-weekly/ Uniworld Boutique River Cruises added a second cruise and rail itinerary in Europe this year, a combination that is growing in popularity for travelers in Europe but is so far offered by few river cruise lines. Uniworld, finding success with its Cruise & Rail program and its partnership with Golden Eagle Luxury Trains, launched a new itinerary this year, Castles of Transylvania & Enchanting Danube, with two departures — one lasting 12 days, the other 13 — that enable guests to explore parts of Eastern Europe. The Cruise & Rail program was launched by the line in 2021, prompted by its desire to diversify its offerings and offer guests more of Europe.  Uniworld CEO Ellen Bettridge said its partnership with Golden Eagle was a fresh, new way to give guests the opportunity to explore a variety of destinations across several countries in one trip with various modes of transport. “Every year, we focus on innovation in the river cruise space,” Bettridge said of how its partnership with Golden Eagle developed. “To bring this programming to life, we needed a partner that aligned with our five-star standards, and we’re fortunate to find that in Golden Eagle Luxury Trains through existing industry relationships.” Photo Credit: Nicole Edenedo What sets Uniworld’s itineraries apart is that the rail journey is part of the trip itself rather than a pre- or post-river cruise extension. Continue Reading Even though there are a variety of luxury rail options, from day trains to overnight sleepers located in the destinations Uniworld sails globally — such as India and Peru — Uniworld said Europe was the obvious, and best choice, for the company to lean into its rail venture. “The region that we’re most familiar with, Europe, was the perfect place to start,” said Bettridge, adding that the first Cruise & Rail itineraries complemented the line’s newly transformed S.S. La Venezia, venturing to destinations that Uniworld had not visited before. But the benefits of cruise and rail combinations don’t merely extend to the scenic advantage of seeing destinations beyond the rivers. Cruise and rail options can also be a practical alternative in an increasingly warmer and changing climate. Low water levels plagued nearly all river cruise lines sailing Europe’s Rhine and Danube rivers from late July through most of August. Excessive heat and drought conditions depleted waters to unnavigable levels along some stretches of the rivers. Late-summer rain eventually helped replenish the rivers to navigable levels, but not before many cruise departures were canceled, delayed or modified.  Cruise & Rail, Bettridge said, “enables us to appeal to a wide range of travelers, offer a product unlike anything else on the market and adapt when necessary.”  Luxury train add-on is popular Uniworld is among the few river cruise companies to embed a rail trip within an existing cruise itinerary that isn’t part of a pre- or post-cruise extension package. On most lines, travelers have to independently book a luxury rail component, which suppliers say is increasingly popular. “We’re doing tons of pre- and post-river cruise trips this year,” said Frank Marini, CEO of Railbookers Group, a rail vacation packager that specializes in customizable FIT itineraries. “There are a lot in Switzerland — that’s a big piece of where we’re seeing these pre- and post-river cruise trips travelers are taking.” Most river cruises that travel to Switzerland typically begin or end in Basel, located on the Rhine, and transfer by coach or rail to begin a rail journey. Uniworld’s initial itinerary, with its 14-day Milan, Venice & the Swiss Alps and 12-day Venice & the Swiss Alps departures, starts or ends its Golden Eagle train experience in Zurich. The 13-day version of the company’s newest Cruise & Rail itinerary begins with an overnight stay in Budapest, followed by four nights on the Golden Eagle train and then a return to Budapest to embark on a seven-day river cruise on the Danube through Austria and before ending in Passau, Germany. The 12-day Enchanting Danube & Castles of Transylvania travels in the opposite direction and does not include an overnight stay in Budapest.

2022 Presidents Cup Scores, Results: Live Coverage, Standings, Golf Updates, Schedule For Day 3 On Saturday – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/2022-presidents-cup-scores-results-live-coverage-standings-golf-updates-schedule-for-day-3-on-saturday-cbs-sports/ The 2022 Presidents Cup moves into the weekend as the U.S. commands a substantial 8-2 lead over the International team. Matching the 2017 Presidents Cup for the largest lead at the halfway point, the Americans will look to put the visiting team to bed as a potential eight points are up for grabs between the two sessions on Saturday. Needing only 7.5 points to capture its 12th Presidents Cup in 14 attempts, the U.S. will first send out its formidable duo of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. The two good friends have been electric around Quail Hollow Club the first two days and have garnered a 2-0-0 record alongside each other. While the likelihood of the U.S. closing out the International title is slim, captain Trevor Immelman’s squad will have to keep its head up if it aims to claw back into this event. Despite the large deficit, five of the first 10 matches have reached the 18th hole through the first two days. Unfortunately for the internationals, they have only captured one victory and two ties in those five matches. If they expect to make this Presidents Cup more competitive in the latter stages, not only will the breaks need to go their way, but more putts will need to fall. 2022 Presidents Cup scores, results Day 3 — Foursomes 1 Jordan Spieth & Justin Thomas Win 4&3 Sungjae Im & Corey Conners 2 Cameron Young & Collin Morikawa Win 3&2 Adam Scott & Hideki Matsuyama 3 Scottie Scheffler & Sam Burns Win 2&1 K.H. Keep it locked here for live scores, updates and highlights. Pinned U.S. leads 10-4 after opening session of Day 3 Splitting 2-2 in the morning foursomes, the internationals finally showed signs of life. Led by 20-year-old Tom Kim and K.H. Lee, the two South Koreans took down world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns. Veterans Adam Scott and Hideki Matusyama added to its total, but a draw won’t get the job done. If somehow able to sweep the afternoon four-ball, this will be a match come tomorrow. However, if 2-2 is the best they can do, this Presidents Cup is all but over. Pinned Afternoon four-ball matches Patrick Cantlay-Xander Schauffele vs. Si Woo Kim-Tom Kim (12:10 p.m.) Justin Thomas-Jordan Spieth vs. Hideki Matsuyama-Taylor Pendrith (12:25 p.m.) Tony Finau-Kevin Kisner vs. Sungjae Im-Sebastian Munoz (12:40 p.m.) Sam Burns-Billy Horschel vs. Adam Scott-Cam Davis (12:55 p.m.) See New Posts Pinned Pinned New partnership about to begin Tony Finau and Kevin Kisner will get their first match together underway momentarily. Finau has been paired with Max Homa the first two days and collected a 2-0-0 record in foursomes. Kisner was able to grab a half point yesterday afternoon with Cameron Young. It is an intriguing pairing and one the internationals could take advantage of with Sungjae Im and Sebastian Munoz who shot 9 under best ball on Friday. Pinned Pinned Pinned Afternoon sessions begins with an electric matchup Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay are well-rested and look to continue their dominance after going 2-0-0 the first two days. They will be matched up against the Kims of Si Woo and Tom. These two are the polar opposite of the Americans — fiery, electric, fist pumping. I am excited for this one as it will set the tone for the afternoon. Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned World No. 1 takes a seat It has been a forgettable Presidents Cup for Scottie Scheffler. Garnering a 0-2-1 record alongside Sam Burns, he is without a full point to his name. Organised by Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, the two-day global event will dive deep on the experiences or key sectors such as aviation, logistics, retail, education and healthcare. Local and international experts will also talk about the world’s readiness for metaverse and how it can improve services and enhance the quality of human life. Hamad Al Shirawi There are pressing questions about the metaverse. Many do not understand how it will progress or how it can change the world. To get a preview of the upcoming Dubai Metaverse Assembly, Gulf News spoke with Hamad Al Shirawi, director of Dubai Metaverse Assembly, who also shared his insights on Dubai’s role in advancing the understanding of metaverse and its applications. Here are excerpts of the interview with Al Shirawi: Platform for pioneers and experts “Dubai Metaverse Assembly is part of DFF’s effort to address latest trends and understand their implications and uses, as well as provide a global platform for dialogues and knowledge exchange focusing on the future of humanity. We aim to facilitate synergy amongst various entities, global organisations and industry experts, to identify the challenges and opportunities that the future holds, to explore its potential, and to develop action plans to address them. “The event will explore how this revolutionary technology can be deployed across vital sectors to create a better future and quality of life for humanity. What is the metaverse? Metaverse is an online, 3D, virtual universe connecting users in almost all aspects of their lives. It connects multiple platforms – like the internet containing different websites – and made accessible through a single portal. The metaverse is not yet fully in existence but it dubbed as the future iteration of the internet that will allow users – through their avatars – to work, meet, game, and socialise in these 3D virtual spaces. One can think of online network games where players from around the world play the same game together as a simple example of the metaverse. “The announcement of the Dubai Metaverse Assembly follows the launch of the Dubai Metaverse Strategy, which aims to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global capital of advances technologies by investing in promising economic opportunities, adopting, and deploying Metaverse technology, and developing digital infrastructure that supports global transformations and the digital economy. Impact on humanity “Experts believe that the metaverse could enable humanity to redefine how business is done. This is very exciting. The potential impact of the metaverse extends well beyond business, and humans stand a lot to gain from a social perspective. “Metaverse can provide a shared environment and economy for everyone, regardless of their location. Humans around the world can become connected like never before. “Virtually every sector will benefit from metaverse technologies. These technologies will pave the way for smart societies of the future, digital government services, improved research and studies, better consumer experiences, enhanced e-learning tools and specialised training. This is just a handful of areas which can be transformed by the immersive worlds of the metaverse. “The economic opportunities are similarly significant. Metaverse will provide integrated digital shopping experiences, open new horizons in e-gaming and entertainment, and create promising opportunities for broader uses of blockchain technologies, non-fungible assets and digital assets in general. What to expect at Dubai Metaverse Assembly “The assembly’s programme includes three main tracks – Educate, Inspire, and Contribute. The Educate track will consist of in-depth keynotes and panels on metaverse. Inspire track will showcase immersive experiences and Contribute track will include closed workshops. A promotional visual depicting the upcoming assembly in Dubai Image Credit: Supplied “Here are a few sneak peeks: Topics will include the future of gaming, the future of nations, the role of government, and building the backbone for Web 3.0 technologies. Speakers will include world-leading experts, futurists, and innovators – individuals from leading organisations such as the World Economic Forum, Meta, Mastercard, Binance, Accenture, SandBox, Polygon and others who are all at the vanguard of this momentous technological revolution. Role of Dubai in advancing metaverse “Dubai is well-positioned to discuss the metaverse and create the groundwork for harnessing its full potential. Dubai Metaverse Strategy aims to turn Dubai into one of the world’s top 10 metaverse economies as well as a global hub for the metaverse community. “The strategy aims to build on Dubai’s achievement of attracting more than 1,000 companies operating in blockchain and the metaverse. It also promotes Dubai’s ambitions to support more than 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030. This will further boost Dubai’s economy and support the UAE government’s vision of increasing the number of blockchain companies five-fold as part of its efforts to create a digital economy. “The UAE is already home to some 1,000 companies operating in blockchain and metaverse. Dubai is at the heart of this ecosystem and will continue to provide an environment in which companies in this space can thrive.”

Dogecoin Price Up 10% – Which Meme Coin Will Pump Next? – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/dogecoin-price-up-10-which-meme-coin-will-pump-next-cryptonews/ Dogecoin has been on a slightly bullish pump during the past 24 hours. According to CoinGecko, the largest memecoin has gained by 10% within 24 hours to trade at $0.068 at the time of writing. Dogecoin jumps 10% in 24 hours Dogecoin seems to be under significant buying pressure, and the indicators show increased potential for an uptrend. The bullish gains have appeared within the past 24 hours, and if the Dogecoin community can maintain it, then notable gains could be seen in the coming weeks and months.   Dogecoin’s trading volumes during the past 24 hours have been high, which could explain the bullish price movement. The 24-hour trading volumes currently stand at $960 million, with its market cap hitting $8.7 billion, ranking it the tenth-largest cryptocurrency by this metric. Dogecoin has been on a steep decline this year as the bears have erased most of the gains this memecoin has made. DOGE has dropped by 90% from an all-time high created in May last year. In 2021, Dogecoin reacted strongly to Elon Musk’s tweets, but this seems to be no longer the case, as bullish momentum is yet to be created. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) shows a strong bullish momentum for Dogecoin. As seen above, Dogecoin’s RSI currently stands at 53, showing buyers actively buying the token to take advantage of the ongoing price gains. The other indicator that also shows bullish signs is the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD). The MACD line is currently on the signal line, with the earlier movements showing that bears have been losing control. The bullish momentum could be maintained if Doge holds support levels above $0.06. On the other hand, there is also a possibility that declines could be on the way. Dogecoin’s current bullish gains do not show signs of being sustained, with the resistance level of $0.068 being one of the hindrances to a continued uptrend. Therefore, there is a high possibility that DOGE will consolidate and return to trading at $0.059. The 24-hour bullish gains made by Dogecoin follow a mention of the memecoin by the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin. Buterin appeared on a video chat at the Mainnet conference, where he said that he was hopeful that the memecoin network would migrate to a proof-of-stake blockchain. Buterin also added that “I hope that Zcash moves over. I am also very hopeful that Dogecoin is going to evolve over to proof of stake at some point soon.” The Ethereum Merge was considered one of the most successful events in the blockchain sector. The memecoin community is now hopeful that such a transition will trigger more gains, which is the reason behind the momentum to buy Dogecoin. The memecoin continues to grow The memecoin community has grown significantly over the past year. However, the current growth is being fuelled by one of the newest memecoins in the market, Tamadoge. Tamadoge completed one of the most successful presales in crypto history that raised %19 million. The latest news from the Tamadoge team is that the memecoin will debut on the OKX exchange on Tuesday, September 27. The listing could deliver 100X gains, given that OKX is the second-largest cryptocurrency exchange globally by trading volumes.

Financial Inclusion For The unbanked Could Ease US Economic Woes The Hill
Financial Inclusion For The unbanked Could Ease US Economic Woes The Hill
Financial Inclusion For The ‘unbanked’ Could Ease US Economic Woes – The Hill https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/financial-inclusion-for-the-unbanked-could-ease-us-economic-woes-the-hill/ (AP Photo/Nam Y. Huh) A “Payday Loans” sign is displayed at a Check’n Go in Niles, Ill., Sunday, July 11, 2021. (AP Photo/Nam Y. Huh) Across rural America and in urban centers throughout the country, there is a little-known roadblock to economic growth and personal prosperity that is keeping millions of people from achieving financial independence and building personal prosperity.  Many people are “unbanked” and lack a bank account, while others are “underbanked” and need to use alternative financial services such as money orders, check-cashing services and payday loans rather than traditional loans and credit cards to manage their finances and fund purchases. Both situations block millions of people across the nation from personal financial stability and hurt our overall economic growth.  Despite significant progress in the last decade toward reducing the number of underbanked and unbanked people in the United States, there is a growing bipartisan consensus that now is the time to redouble our efforts toward true financial inclusion. Financial inclusion must go beyond banking to have a tangible impact on the financial lives of people in America. Financial inclusion means that individuals and businesses have equitable access to affordable financial products and services to meet their payments, savings, credit and insurance needs.  That is why over 110 companies, trade groups, and consumer groups have joined with the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program, calling for establishing a National Financial Inclusion Strategy to deliver better financial outcomes for all people, whatever their zip code. This unprecedented coalition brings together a large number of diverse entities advocating for a national financial inclusion strategy. It represents the comprehensive array of sectors and policies that must be addressed in a cohesive approach.  For too long, the U.S. has taken a fragmented approach to financial inclusion. Federal agencies, financial institutions, community organizations and advocacy groups have led important individual initiatives to address the lack of inclusive financial systems in the United States, but there has been no cohesive, strategic effort to address this very complex problem.   The Biden administration’s executive order making support for racial equity within underserved communities a top priority for federal agencies was a good first step, but the data show that more action is needed.   For example, more than 7 million households across the U.S. remain unbanked and are disproportionately Black, Hispanic, American Indian, or Alaska Native. Nearly 10 percent of rural Americans lived in “banking deserts” compared to 1.7 percent of urban Americans.  It’s not just rural Americans who are left behind. In a 2020 report conducted by McKinsey, data reveals that exclusionary policies and strategies — from limited access to federal mortgage lending to geographic barriers to physical bank branches — have hindered Black economic wellbeing.   In fact, recent research finds Black and Latino households account for over half of interest and fees on payday loans (22 and 29 percent, respectively), despite comprising less than a third of the population. A report from New America found that financial institutions charge Latino consumers $262 more to open a checking account than their white counterparts.   Research from the International Monetary Fund shows a 2-3 percentage point GDP growth difference over the long term between financially inclusive countries and their peers. The United States trails other countries because it lacks a comprehensive financial inclusion strategy, but a Presidential Commission can set joint goals for federal agencies and the private sector to expand financial inclusion policies, develop ongoing means of coordinating action between leading agencies and organizations, and track progress toward building an inclusive financial system in the U.S.   Organizations across the political and philosophical spectrum have realized that our national failure to create a coordinated strategy to promote financial inclusion hurts the individuals impacted and limits our financial growth. A recent analysis of multiple sources by McKinsey & Company estimates that promoting financial inclusion could translate into 4 to 6 percent higher growth in real GDP by 2028. Solving this intractable program requires bold leadership across all sectors to establish a shared vision for how policies, products and business models can create the inclusive financial systems required to generate an equitable and sustainable economy.   This recommendation is the culmination of several years of research and dialogue with the leading voices in the financial services industry and those who have been systematically excluded. It’s time to put all people in America on the path toward better outcomes and create greater financial security for all. Ida Rademacher is vice president of the Aspen Institute and executive director of its Financial Security Program.

The Collaboration Thats Connecting The Unconnected The Hill
The Collaboration Thats Connecting The Unconnected The Hill
The Collaboration That’s Connecting The Unconnected – The Hill https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/the-collaboration-thats-connecting-the-unconnected-the-hill/ When I launched Broadcom in the early 1990s with the goal of revolutionizing digital connectivity, it was necessary to work closely with governments around the world, starting with cable set-top boxes. This new class of technology that Broadcom and others brought to market over the next 30 years were transformative and complex, presenting policymakers with a steep learning curve that, at times, led to delays in or barriers to innovation. In response, some argued that governments can best help technological innovation by getting out of the way, but innovators such as Broadcom know it’s far better when policymakers and regulators keep pace with innovation and help make new life-enhancing technologies possible. When policymakers and innovators collaborate, they can unleash the future of the tech industry, bolster the broader economy, and improve the lives of billions. I’ve seen first-hand how public-private collaboration has accelerated connectivity innovation, and there are compelling opportunities to continue this joint approach that has served the public so well. A great example of this from Broadcom’s early years took place when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) set aside wireless spectrum for unlicensed use. This spectrum became an innovation sandbox for Broadcom, turning Bluetooth and Wi-Fi into two of the most successful wireless technologies of all time. Decades later, in April 2020, the FCC made another important policy decision for connectivity when it voted to allocate 1,200 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz band for unlicensed use, tapping a crucial spectrum band for making new, faster services publicly available. This groundbreaking act was the culmination of several years of public-private collaboration, with great leadership from then-FCC Chair Ajit Pai and Commissioners Jessica Rosenworcel, Brendan Carr, and Geoffrey Starks, along with bipartisan congressional advocacy spearheaded by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.), and others. The impact of the FCC’s decision dramatically demonstrated the important role Wi-Fi plays in American society. Almost immediately, hundreds of new devices and services entered the U.S. market, including new internet gateways, smartphones, and laptops. Whether in urban or rural areas, Wi-Fi is essential to closing the digital divide, and proved to be one of the global economy’s virtual connective tissues during the pandemic. And this is just the beginning. After shipping more than 1.3 billion Wi-Fi 6 and 6E chips over a two-year period, Broadcom was recently first to release a family of next generation Wi-Fi 7 chipsets, and thanks to advancements brought by unlicensed spectrum, improvements in health care, education, live entertainment, among others, are just around the corner. How much the U.S. economy will benefit from the FCC’s April 2020 decision will partly depend on a more recent milestone of Washington action that kept pace with tech innovation: new bipartisan investments in broadband infrastructure. In addition, as part of the recently enacted CHIPS and Science Act, Congress directed the Government Accountability Office to recommend ways the government can accelerate migration to leading edge technology, starting with broadband. Expediting this migration would allow us to better connect the unconnected and accelerate the introduction of new 5G services. This will ensure America continues to lead the world in advanced technology while achieving greater energy efficiency and climate goals. If there is one constant in the tech industry, it’s that innovation never stops and momentum drives progress. In implementing initiatives on unlicensed spectrum and broadband infrastructure, U.S. policymakers stayed abreast of technological change and unleashed innovation. And there are several ways the public and private sectors can build on those successes. First, the U.S. government can advocate for making unlicensed 6 GHz spectrum available on a global scale. Second, as part of her efforts to close the digital divide through equitable access, FCC Chair Rosenworcel is seeking to deploy Wi-Fi on school buses — a brilliant and timely initiative to help students keep pace with their classroom work. She and her FCC colleagues are also in a position to build on the historic April 2020 decision by completing a current rule designed to enable portable device operations for applications such as augmented and virtual reality. Finally, policymakers seeking to look beyond the policy and technology horizon should consider expanding unlicensed spectrum availability into the 7 GHz band. Doing so would create yet another  innovation sandbox for next generation Wi-Fi and other forms of connectivity.  During my tenure at Broadcom, including now as its Board Chair, I have been both participant and witness to a generation of the most transformative innovations in our history. The most rewarding of those breakthroughs came alongside or in response to collaborations with policymakers, creating economic opportunity, educational accessibility, and societal equity for billions all over the globe. The best is yet to come, which is why it has never been more important for policymakers and innovators like Broadcom to deepen their partnerships and work in lockstep to futureproof our means for connectivity and close the digital divide. Henry Samueli is founder and chairman at Broadcom.

In Our View: Cheers & Jeers: Strike Settled; Paltry Penalty – The Columbian https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/in-our-view-cheers-paltry-penalty-the-columbian/ The Columbian Published: September 24, 2022, 6:03am Cheers: To being in class. After a six-day teachers strike, students returned to school Monday in the Ridgefield School District. Teachers approved a three-year contract that includes salary increases and improvements to teaching caseloads and class sizes for special education, along with other provisions. As The Columbian reported Wednesday evening, the new contract “featured compromises between the two sides on key sticking points.” Avoiding a strike and keeping students in school would be preferable, but teachers have maximum bargaining power at the scheduled start of the school year. We hope that teachers and administrators have reached an equitable agreement that will best serve students and taxpayers. But for now the most important thing is that those students have returned to class. Jeers: To Dennis Muilenburg. Boeing will pay a $200 million penalty and former CEO Dennis Muilenburg will pay $1 million related to two crashes of the 737 Max. The Securities and Exchange Commission found that the company and Muilenburg made misleading public statements about the safety of the plane following crashes that killed 346 people. Muilenburg was fired in December 2019, nine months after the second crash. But what often isn’t mentioned in media reports is that he left the company with a $62 million severance payout. After overseeing a flawed inspection process that led to two crashes and then misleading the public about it, Muilenburg was rewarded with a fortune. A $1 million penalty seems too small. Cheers: To food trucks. A recent article in The Columbian highlighted Clark County’s burgeoning food truck industry. “We need food trucks,” one proprietor said. “They’re vital to the restaurant industry. Someone starts out with a dream, they start working in the kitchen of a restaurant, then they open their own cart, then they open a restaurant.” Portland long has been a leader in the food truck industry, and Clark County has gradually followed suit. Food trucks offer entrepreneurial opportunities and add vitality to urban areas — not to mention good food and a variety of ethnic delights. State and local leaders should work to make it easier to open and operate food trucks in our communities. Jeers: To fentanyl. Health officials continue to be alarmed by the prevalence and danger of fentanyl. As a University of Washington professor said recently: “We were already having a hard time keeping up with heroin, and fentanyl is just so much more deadly, causes so much more chaos, and it’s happening with younger and younger people who have even less experience with the health care treatment system.” Dr. Alan Melnick, Clark County health officer, has warned that fentanyl often is mixed with other substances: “Drugs purchased online, from friends, or from regular dealers could be deadly. There’s no way to know how much fentanyl is in a drug.” The safest strategy is to avoid illicit drugs. Cheers: To education options. Clark College students have returned to school for fall term, with many of them taking classes online. About 40 percent of classes are offered in person, but nearly all include a remote option. That option is particularly valuable for community college students, who often are attempting to balance school with jobs and families. “One term to the next, if something comes up, they don’t have to interrupt their education because that virtual option is available,” Clark College President Karin Edwards said. “The important thing for us is to provide the same quality online and in-person.”

Concerns about whether the project could jeopardize Bethlehem’s earnings a spot as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing the Moravian site, have been raised. Taking Steps To Combat Obesity In San Joaquin County Stockton Record
Taking Steps To Combat Obesity In San Joaquin County – Stockton Record https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/taking-steps-to-combat-obesity-in-san-joaquin-county-stockton-record/ Guneet Gill, Stephen Gong-Guy, Parvati Iyer, David Ojcius  |  Special to The Stockton Record While popular fast-food chains such as Raising Cane’s and In-N-Out continue to open locations and thrive on hungry stomachs in the North San Joaquin County district, the combined overweight and obesity rate has climbed to greater than 65% of the local population, a historic high. By emphasizing certain priority communities and engaging with the community to address socioeconomic and ethnic disparities which are at the root of the obesity epidemic, it is not too late to reverse the rates. Exceeding the obesity rate of California by almost 7%, the San Joaquin County public health services have started numerous initiatives to promote active and healthier lifestyles for all members of their community.   Increased obesity rates in San Joaquin County can be attributed to prevalent risk factors such as the lack of access to care, food insecurity, and mental and behavioral health. In the 2022 Community Health Assessment of San Joaquin County, regions were identified as priority neighborhoods recognizing the need for addressing socioeconomic disparities, transportation, housing, and climate issues among other factors.   Physical activity and nutrition are important factors in preventing obesity and obesity related diseases. However, residents in San Joaquin County experience higher rates of poor physical health and heart disease. Not only does obesity occur at higher rates among the adult population, but also among the youth of the county. For children living in San Joaquin County in grades five, seven and nine5, 7, and 9, it was reported that the obesity rate was at 43% compared to the California average of 40%.   Currently, the San Joaquin Valley has two primary publicly funded and operated public health service programs to combat the rising rates of obesity. The first is the Network Campaign, a project specifically focused on advocating for individualized nutrition and exercise targeted toward low-income residents. This program utilizes a social media campaign and afterschool programs to reach students in lower socioeconomic schools, and partners with those schools to integrate healthy eating habits into the school curriculum. Success has been found particularly in food demonstrations and integration with physical education courses.   The second program is the south Stockton-based Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program. This program promotes policy and environmental changes to establish the foundation for building healthy habits, working to create safe play areas and access to healthy food.   In 2009, San Joaquin County established an Obesity and Chronic Disease Prevention Task Force in order to decrease the incidence and prevalence of obesity in the county. While the recognition and formation of an organization to combat obesity is a huge step, effective implementation and consistency will be the true test.   San Joaquin County Public Health Services also provides educational resources to introduce healthy eating and active habits at a young age. They partner with Leah’s Pantry to provide nutrition and food preparation classes. The CATCH program, or Coordinated Approach to Child Health, provides a platform to encourage families to engage in physical activity. Moreover, CalFresh benefits, a food assistance program provided by the California Department of Social Services, is also a resource available for individuals and families with low income. This food assistance program provides monthly food benefits and is intended to promote healthier eating by purchasing nutritious food such as fruits and vegetables. CalFresh benefits can also be used at farmers markets, offering individuals with access to fresh produce. Interested readers should visit their website: getcalfresh.org.   As different fast food and fast casual dining options become more popular than the previous mom-and-pop shops and more traditional farm-to-table restaurants, further efforts should be made to enhance educational programs that promote healthy lifestyles and support policies that aid underserved communities to combat the widespread and harmful effects of obesity.   Guneet Gill and Stephen Gong-Guy are students in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program, and Parvati Iyer and David Ojcius are professors at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.

Michigan State Vs. Minnesota: How To Watch Online, Live Stream Info, Game Time, TV Channel – CBS Sports https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/michigan-state-vs-minnesota-how-to-watch-online-live-stream-info-game-time-tv-channel-cbs-sports/ Who’s Playing Minnesota @ Michigan State Current Records: Minnesota 3-0; Michigan State 2-1 What to Know The Minnesota Golden Gophers have enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they must head out on the road. The Golden Gophers and the Michigan State Spartans will face off in a Big Ten battle at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Spartan Stadium. Minnesota should still be feeling good after a win, while MSU will be looking to regain their footing. Minnesota ran circles around the Colorado Buffaloes last week, and the extra yardage (500 yards vs. 227 yards) paid off. Minnesota steamrolled past Colorado 49-7 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35 to nothing. RB Mohamed Ibrahim had a dynamite game for the Golden Gophers; he rushed for three TDs and 202 yards on 23 carries. Meanwhile, the Spartans came up short against the Washington Huskies last week, falling 39-28. MSU was down 36-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Despite the loss, they got a solid performance out of WR Keon Coleman, who caught nine passes for two TDs and 116 yards. Coleman had some trouble finding his footing against the Akron Zips two weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction. This next matchup is expected to be close, with the Golden Gophers going off at just a 3-point favorite. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (2-0), so they might be worth a quick bet. Minnesota’s victory brought them up to 3-0 while the Spartans’ defeat pulled them down to 2-1. A pair of defensive stats to keep an eye on: Minnesota hasn’t allowed a rushing touchdown yet this season. As for MSU, they enter the contest with 12 sacks, good for seventh best in the nation. Metaform And XP&DLand Unveils Durga Puja On Metaverse Called MetaPujo – The Financial Express https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/metaform-and-xpdland-unveils-durga-puja-on-metaverse-called-metapujo-the-financial-express/ According to Metaform and XP&DLand, MetaPujo will introduce four non-fungible tokens of Durga idols from the most visited pandals of Kolkata Metaform and XP&DLand has announced a MetaPujo, which will foray to bring Durga puja celebrations of Kolkata to the metaverse. Ahiritola Sarbojanin, Deshapriya Park, Ballygunge Cultural and Tala Prattay pandals will be accessible through three-dimensional (3D) twins on the metaverse. According to Metaform and XP&DLand, MetaPujo will introduce four non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of Durga idols from the most visited pandals of Kolkata. The platform has planned centres around 3D recreations of the pandals, where users in ‘Spatial’, a metaverse platform, can enter a shared social space where people from across the world can come together and walk around, interact, and even take photographs. Users are expected to create a meta-realistic avatar of themselves, with the platform accessible to all through simple smart phones, tablets, and wearables. As stated by Sukrit Singh, co-founder, Metaform and XP&DLand, the platform aims to bridge the gap between devotion and technology. “This initiative aims to give Maa Durga an address on Web3.0, where the devout from across the world will be able to enter a three-dimensional recreation of the pandals and take part in darshans from the popular pandals of Kolkata. While doing so, attendees would be able to claim four NFTs of her idols that have been designed especially for the occasion, each correlating to one of the pandals,” he added.  “We aim to democratise the metaverse. You don’t have to be in Kolkata now to celebrate the pujas. Meta pujos are expected to allow people from all over the world to enter pandal meta twins as family and friends – separated by physical distance but united in the meta celebration. Introducing the concept of digital ownership, in addition to presenting these experiences, we intend to drop digital collectables or NFTs, which can be purchased. These digital tokens will then, over time, generate a value given their real-life utility. In the future, the idea is to monetise the collectables and drive community with utility (whether for community, experiences, or collectables) at a later stage with the intent to build a business,” Suveer Bajaj, co-founder, Metaform and XP&Dland, said.  Also Read: Australia’s Optus contacts customers caught in cyber attack Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn

Huge Reason To Buy The New IPhone 14 News.com.au
Huge Reason To Buy The New IPhone 14 News.com.au
Huge Reason To Buy The New IPhone 14 – News.com.au https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/huge-reason-to-buy-the-new-iphone-14-news-com-au/ REVIEW When Apple recently announced its new flagship iPhone 14, I was incredibly excited, but at first glance it doesn’t look very different to last year’s iPhone 13. In fact, as far as its design goes, it’s pretty much identical to the previous generation. However, there are many delightful updates to the iPhone’s hardware and software, so let me take you through it. Firstly, there are two size options when it comes to choosing a new iPhone 14. The “regular” 6.1” inch display (with a 3279mAh battery) or the new iPhone 14 Plus with a 6.7” display and larger battery (4323 mAh). In comparison, last year Apple announced a 6.1” iPhone 13 and a 5.42” iPhone 13 mini variant, but it seems this year that Apple has decided to do a 180 and go bigger. Previously, Apple used to only offer this larger screen if you bought a Pro Max iPhone model. So it’s a pretty awesome offer as the Pro Max line is a premium phone, meaning there would usually be a substantial price jump for users shopping around for an iPhone with a bigger screen. Unboxing There’s not a lot to see in the box, except the iPhone 14 in a colour of your choosing. This year the iPhone comes in Blue (baby blue), Purple (pastel), Midnight (black), Starlight (between silver and gold) and Product Red. Besides the regular documents and Apple Sticker, you’ll get a USB-C to Lightning Cable. No charging brick, which is now the norm. iPhone 14 Updated Features • New selfie auto-focus Apple has updated the selfie camera (front facing camera) to offer a better auto focus feature, which means everyone in your group shots should be in focus from now on, even if they’re a little further back from the camera than you. There’s also an updated main camera on the back which performs better in low light. • Cinematic mode You can now record in 4K resolution in Cinematic mode, a feature which was originally only available in HD resolution since it first came to the iPhone on last year’s iPhone 13. This is the video mode that allows you to film a subject with a blurred background, which makes your videos look more like something that would come out of a professional camera. I love this feature and the video quality upgrade is such a nice bonus. • Action mode There’s a new “Action Mode” available to the back facing camera, which makes your videos super stable, as if you’ve put your iPhone on a gimbal. Honestly, the stabilisation is incredibly impressive and if you are walking or running after someone, or filming out of a moving vehicle, it really comes in handy. • Repairability A feature that I haven’t seen many people talk about is the iPhone 14’s new and improved repairability. Apple has completely changed the internal design of the phone so now the back glass is easier to repair, and from my research, so is the front glass. It’s one of the biggest iPhone internal design changes in many, many years and this is such a win for consumers. Though I will say the durability of the iPhone 13, which continues over to the 14, is already paramount. And having dropped my iPhone 13 way too often, and somehow never suffering any cracks or damage, I’d highly recommend the iPhone 14 just for this reason. Battery Life Apple states the new iPhone 14 offers “the longest battery life ever” and so far, it has been able to tackle a day of medium to heavy use, and last late until the evening. In contrast, the iPhone 14 Plus, with its larger battery, is even more of a delight, getting easily a full day of use and a little battery life left to spare in the morning. Is the iPhone 14 worth it? Even though the iPhone 14 shares the same design as the iPhone 13, there’s a lot of new features packed into the new iPhone 14. If you care about your selfie quality, recording smooth videos and want better battery life, then it’s definitely a phone to consider, especially if you’re coming from an iPhone 11 or earlier. The iPhone 14 starts at $1399 for the baseline 128GB model and the iPhone 14 Plus starts at $1579 for the 128GB model. IRS Can Now Hunt Down Americas Crypto Tax Evaders After Landmark Ruling Cryptonews
IRS Can Now Hunt Down America’s Crypto Tax Evaders After Landmark Ruling – Cryptonews https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/irs-can-now-hunt-down-americas-crypto-tax-evaders-after-landmark-ruling-cryptonews/ Source: AdobeStock / Vitalii Vodolazskyi The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has received authorization from a U.S. district judge to sniff out individuals who attempt to sidestep taxes on their cryptocurrency transactions. The order comes at a time when digital asset adoption is seeing a surge, and the number of crypto tax evaders is subsequently increasing. A press release from the United States Department of Justice uncovered the development Thursday. Per the release, U.S. District Judge Paul Gardephe gave the IRS authorization to issue John Doe summons demanding information related to crypto tax evaders from full-service banking institution M.Y. Safra Bank. The move was announced by IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, United States Attorney Damian Williams, and Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division of the Department of Justice, David Hubbert. The summons will particularly take sFOX – a crypto-focused prime brokerage platform – into consideration. This is due to sFOX’s partnership with M.Y. Safra Bank that enables customers of the broker to utilize the crypto offerings of M.Y. Safra Bank. The IRS will be looking out for customers who failed to report to the IRS in order to pay the necessary taxes on their crypto transactions. The ramped-up effort at hunting down tax evaders in the crypto scene is due to the concerning rate of crypto tax dearth. According to the press release, the IRS has noticed “significant tax compliance deficiencies relating to cryptocurrencies and other digital assets” in its experience. Speaking on the matter, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams noted that cryptocurrency traders are not exempt from paying taxes in the United States, as is proper.  “The government is committed to using all of the tools at its disposal, including John Doe summonses, to identify taxpayers who have understated their tax liabilities by not reporting cryptocurrency transactions, and to make sure that everyone pays their fair share,” Williams added. Furthermore, IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig highlighted the significance of the court’s authorization to the agency. According to him, the order will help to support their already-established efforts at ensuring that all individuals pay their fair share of taxes. The U.S taxes crypto as investments rather than currencies  In addition, Deputy Assistant Attorney General David Hubbert sought to remind cryptocurrency traders in the U.S. that their gains are taxable. Consequently, it is important for American crypto investors to understand the manner in which their transactions are taxed. The U.S. IRS places taxes on cryptocurrencies as investments, and not necessarily as currencies. Due to this view, long-term holders of cryptocurrencies enjoy lower taxes when they’ve held their assets for up to a year. These rates are typically between 0% and 20%. Notwithstanding, short-term holders who hold their assets for less than a year would be paying somewhere between 10% and 37%. Despite the seemingly high crypto tax rate, the U.S. still doesn’t assume the position of the country with the worst crypto tax rate. That crown goes to Belgium which taxes crypto transactions up to 33% or 50% depending on whether the transactions are speculative or regarded as professional income.

These 7 States Have The Least Air Pollution In The U.S. – CNBC https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/these-7-states-have-the-least-air-pollution-in-the-u-s-cnbc/ Breathing cleaner air is vital to your long-term health: It’s essential for healthy lungs, improves cognitive function and can even make you happier.  The Natural Resources Defense Council also says cleaner air helps avoid an estimated 370,000 premature deaths in the U.S. each year and leads to 189,000 fewer hospital admissions for cardiac and respiratory illnesses, such as heart diseases, asthma or pneumonia.  In short, you can expect numerous benefits from living in an area with clean air. That’s good news for residents of several states, according to a new U.S. News and World Report analysis, which ranked all 50 states according to how polluted they are and the risk that pollution poses to their population’s health.  The ranking is based on 2019 data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which measured the total toxic chemical pollution generated in each state and the risks of long-term, chronic health effects — such as cancer and birth defects — posed to each state’s population per capita. Those measurements accounted for air and water emissions from manufacturing, electric power generation, mining and hazardous waste treatment, according to the U.S. News and World Report. They didn’t account for pollution from transportation, agriculture or small facilities like dry cleaners and auto body shops. Here are the seven least polluted states, according to the ranking: Vermont  New Hampshire South Dakota New Mexico Wyoming  California  Rhode Island  Vermont comes in first as the least polluted state in the nation, a fitting title for “The Green Mountain State” that is known for its pristine natural attractions. That ranking is consistent with other 2022 analyses: The American Lung Association (ALA) says Vermont’s cities are among the cleanest by air quality in the country, and have low levels of the most harmful and widespread types of air pollution. The state’s Burlington-South metro area in particular is one of only two U.S. cities that rank as the cleanest for the worst types of air pollution, which include particle pollution and ozone air pollution. New Hampshire’s status as the second-least polluted state may come as somewhat of a surprise. In 2022, the ALA said the state’s air quality got “mixed grades.” Overall, New Hampshire showed improvement in the ozone air pollution category, but three counties experienced higher long-term particle pollution — which is deadly — compared to the previous year, according to the ALA. Another surprise is California’s high ranking, considering that many of its cities rank among the country’s most polluted, according to the ALA. California may have more stringent emission standards than most states, but factors like wildfires and drought have been found to worsen the state’s air quality.  What’s not surprising is the state ranked as the most polluted in the U.S.: Louisiana. Several pieces of research point to the state’s poor air quality. For instance, a 2020 analysis by the Environmental Integrity Project found that Louisiana is home to four of the top ten “super polluter” chemical plants in the U.S. A 2019 ProPublica investigation also found that the number of plants in Louisiana with high emissions has actually increased since the 1980s, despite the overall number decreasing nationally. Here’s What We Learned From Week 6 Of Augusta-Area High School Football Action – The Augusta Chronicle https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/heres-what-we-learned-from-week-6-of-augusta-area-high-school-football-action-the-augusta-chronicle/ Week 6 of high school football in Augusta brought with it several solid performances on big stages, despite the relatively light slate of home games in the area. More: Evans football offensive stars supplement maturing defense heading into region play More: Results: Augusta-area high school football updates for Week 6 Here’s what we learned: Franklin, Jackson continue to lead Aquinas to the win column Aquinas (4-1) was up to its old ways in a 40-20 win over Greenbrier Friday. Sophomore quarterback Jim Franklin found the end zone three times through the air and junior Clark Jackson added a pair of rushing touchdowns. That makes 13 touchdown passes for Franklin in five games. Friday served as a tune up for a tough road matchup against Lincoln County in next week’s region opener. The Red Devils (3-2) hammered a very good Richmond Academy team to the tune of 42-20 Friday. Greenbrier (0-5) showed late life in this one, but it was too little too late. The Wolfpack trailed 27-0 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter until Cole Trupp scampered for a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Brooks Kramer also added a pair of touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. Johnson runs wild for Hephzibah Hephzibah running back Telly Johnson stole the show in the Rebels’ 38-33 win over Southeast Bulloch. The junior carried the football 23 times for 134 yards and four touchdowns. The Rebels also had the passing attack working, as quarterback Jalen Patrick completed 11 of 14 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. Senior receiver Eric Grant hauled in six grabs for 106 yards and a score. Hephzibah (3-2) begin its region slate next week with a road matchup with Salem (Conyers). Burke County survives late scare Just a week after an overtime win over Oconee County, Burke County (5-0) had to stave off a Statesboro comeback in a 35-32 road win Friday. The Bears entered halftime with a 21-0 lead, but that quickly diminished as the Blue Devils’ offense came to life in the second half (outscoring Burke County 32-14 in the two quarters). Statesboro held a 32-28 lead with just under five minutes remaining following a blocked punt, but the Bears managed to find the end zone and escape Bulloch County with a win. It doesn’t get any easier for Burke County going forward as it travels to face Wayne County on the road next week. The week after, the Bears travel to Savannah to face Benedictine. Eric Parker’s squad is earning its lofty recognition every step of the way. No Curry, no problem for Thomson Thomson (3-1) hit Washington County in the mouth in a 54-14 win Friday, despite being down star running back Jontavis Curry. The Bulldogs didn’t skip a beat after last Friday’s game was cut short. They cruised to their first region victory of the season following a 41-7 lead at halftime.  Tailback Tre Tre Jefferies carried the ball 16 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns (the Bulldogs combined for seven on the night). Quarterbacks Jahkiaus Jones and Noah Story were also efficient through the air, combining for 156 passing yards and a touchdown (with eight completions on just 11 attempts).  The Thomson train doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon, either. The Bulldogs travel to Josey and Butler the next two weeks before returning to Laney to finish their epic Sept. 16 meeting. Glenn Hills earns first region win Glenn Hills (2-4) defeated Westside (1-4) 12-10 Friday. The Spartans’ two wins exceeds its win total from the past two seasons and it’s just their second region win in three seasons. Glenn Hills looks to keep the momentum going as it travels to Butler next week. Westside, meanwhile, hosts Putnam County.

What Every Aspect Of A Trip On Disneys New Cruise Costs Insider
What Every Aspect Of A Trip On Disneys New Cruise Costs Insider
What Every Aspect Of A Trip On Disney’s New Cruise Costs – Insider https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/what-every-aspect-of-a-trip-on-disneys-new-cruise-costs-insider/ In total, I spent more than $3,800 on my Disney cruise vacation. Amanda Krause/Insider I’m a lifelong Disney fan who just took my first cruise vacation: three nights on the new Wish ship. Between food, souvenirs, travel, and the cruise itself, I spent almost $4,000 by the end. I really enjoyed my experience, but probably wouldn’t splurge on a cruise vacation again. My round-trip plane ticket from New York City to Orlando, Florida, cost almost $400. The route between LaGuardia Airport and Orlando International Airport. Google Maps In the past, I’ve both flown to Florida and driven there from New Jersey in my car. But for my cruise, I knew the quicker trip would be ideal. There were only connecting flights available when I booked, so I had brief layovers in Baltimore, Maryland, both ways.  That said, I knew my round-trip journey would be long and pricey ($396.96), so I was happy not to pay extra for luggage. I was only traveling with a carry-on and personal item, which Southwest Airlines lets you bring for free. I arrived in Orlando, Florida, one day before my cruise and spent the day at Disney Springs. Though it’s free to enter, I still spent $185 while there. I spent $90 on souvenirs, and $30 on two drinks while at Disney Springs. Amanda Krause/Insider I visited Disney Springs with my sister, and we spent nearly our entire day there. We had lunch, went shopping, enjoyed multiple snacks, and had a drink together. Here’s a breakdown of what I spent: Lyft from my hotel to Disney Springs: $24.78 Lunch at Guy Fieri’s Chicken Guy! restaurant: $18.60 Souvenirs for my family and friends: $40.44 Souvenirs for myself: $48.97 One Mickey Mouse pretzel: $6.59 One 50th anniversary milkshake from Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop: $17.23 Two drinks at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar: $29.09 Lyft to get back to the hotel: $22.85 Total: $208.55 The night before my cruise, I stayed at a DoubleTree by Hilton near Orlando International Airport. My room cost me almost another $200. I was given a free DoubleTree cookie (left) and then headed to my room. Amanda Krause/Insider My standard room — which included one king bed, basic hotel amenities, and a famous DoubleTree cookie – cost $178.88 for one night after taxes. Luckily, I didn’t have to pay for transportation between the airport and hotel, as there was a complimentary shuttle available. The following day, I needed to travel from Orlando to Port Canaveral in Brevard County, Florida, so I took a $30 shuttle. A Go Port pass (left) and inside the Go Port bus I took (right). Amanda Krause/Insider The $30 Go Port ticket was entirely worth the price, in my opinion. Port Canaveral is located approximately 45 miles away from Orlando International Airport — where Go Port picks up and drops off travelers — and with traffic, it can take nearly an hour to drive there. The bus ride was much cheaper than an Uber or Lyft would have been, and the driver knew exactly where to drop us off for our specific cruise. The three-day Disney Wish trip that I booked with my sister cost just over $2,700. An exterior view of the new Disney Wish cruise ship. Amanda Krause/Insider I opted for the cheapest lodging on the ship: an inside stateroom with no window that measured approximately 169 square feet. I loved the tiny space, and thought it was pretty luxurious for being so small. Of course, the high price tag of the vacation didn’t only cover the room. Our trip also included unlimited meals — breakfast, lunch, dinner, ice cream, and all-day room service — and basic beverages including soda, water, coffee, and tea. The fee also includes onboard activities and entertainment. On the Wish ship, there are multiple pools, movie showings, interactive games, musical performances, character meet-and-greets, a gym, a recreation center, and Broadway-level theater productions each night, among other amenities. Though breakfast, lunch, and dinner were included in our cruise, I spent $37 on extra snacks while onboard. I thought most of the extra snacks on the cruise ship were reasonably priced. Amanda Krause/Insider Most of the extra snacks available for purchase onboard were reasonably priced, in my opinion. My sister and I enjoyed ice cream, macarons, and even beignets at a “Princess and the Frog”-themed bar. The only snack we found overpriced was the popcorn. We bought a $4 bucket each night ahead of the daily musical production, and it was clearly a favorite with other passengers too. Because popcorn is such a simple and inexpensive snack, we thought it should have been included in the cruise fare. Here’s a breakdown of what I spent: Popcorn: $4.13 Cone of gelato: $4.75 Cup of gelato: $3.75 Popcorn: $4.13 Minnie Mouse cupcake: $4.50 Rose macaron: $2.50 Lemon macaron: $2.50 Carrot cake brownie: $4.50 Popcorn: $4.13 Two beignets: $2.50 Total: $37.39 I also bought nearly $80 worth of drinks throughout the trip. The most expensive drink I purchased was $16 — and it was the best one I had. Amanda Krause/Insider My sister and I aren’t big drinkers, so we didn’t expect to spend a ton on alcohol. But to our surprise, there were a lot of specialty cocktails — and two non-alcoholic drinks — we wanted to try. Disney only offers wine and beer packages on its cruises, so we needed to pay out of pocket for the mixed drinks we wanted. And because it was my sister’s birthday, I decided to pay for both of ours throughout the trip.  Here’s what I spent: Glass of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Trentino: $11 Skall Sangria (Lineman’s Framboise, Twisted Tentacle Ale, and Lillet Rose): $10.00 Blue Hawaiian (SelvaRey White, Pineapple, and Coconut): $10 La Piña (Cîroc Pineapple and Coconut): $10 Frozen Fractal (Cîroc, Peach, Moët, and Chandon Ice): $16 Butterfly (Bombay Sapphire, Butterfly Pea Tea, and Citrus): $13 Ink and Paint (Fresh Lemonade, Butterfly Pea Tea, and Strawberry): $5.50 Small latte: $4 Total: $79.50 When we stopped at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay in the Bahamas, my sister and I splurged on some outdoor activities. I loved the bike paths at Castaway Cay, and thought the $13 rental was well worth it. Amanda Krause/Insider Personally, I would have loved to lounge on the adults-only beach all day. The water was warm, the sun was strong, and stingrays swam around your feet. My sister, on the other hand, was determined to have a more active day. As a result of her persistence, I spent $13 on a bike rental and $34 to rent snorkeling equipment. It was exhausting in my experience, but well worth the $47. I went a bit overboard (no pun intended) when buying souvenirs — spending more than $204. The gift shop had everything, from children’s toys to Christmas ornaments. Amanda Krause/Insider There was so much to experience on the ship that I waited until the last full day of our cruise to start shopping. I bought a couple of postcards for myself at Castaway Cay, and also picked up some gifts for my family. My total there was $49.96. It...

Meditate With Urmila: Living The Authentic Self Gulf News
Meditate With Urmila: Living The Authentic Self – Gulf News https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/meditate-with-urmila-living-the-authentic-self-gulf-news/ Mastery over emotions doesn’t mean suppressing emotions. Mastery over emotions is obtained by correct knowledge, the quality of which is spiritual and the answers of which can’t be found in the material aspects or mind logic. It is in the remit of the heart that you can touch the purity aspect of you. Mastery over emotions is neither suppression nor control. Mastery implies understanding the root causes of afflictions and eliminating them from the psyche so that the emotions don’t behold you. When emotions don’t behold you, you experience freedom. All our lives we may try to control our emotions and claim we are masters in emotion-control. That is easy. What is not easy is expanding understanding (the mental aspect), seeing higher knowledge and releasing afflictions. That is because we resist change, we resist expansion. Resistance is not being ready to understand, discern. It is to keep on doing the same things, keep having the same behaviour that brings misery. Keep complaining, for example, rather than changing things; changing ways to do things differently. That is resistance. As an example, ‘I am right’; the notion of it is resistance, the need to be right , going to lengths to prove you are right; are forms of resistance. ‘I said so’, is a common expression of suchlike narration. These are walls to authentic self. Connecting to Real Self In every one of us, resides a child; pure, authentic, innocent, loving. However, as one grows, several outer layers get added, obscuring the light of that authentic self, that state of pure being-ness. For example, a child’s crying is considered natural but an adult’s crying isn’t. It is questioned (crying is letting go of pent up emotions and can be healthy in several situations. It is a release). Our connection to the child within gets broken, obscured, because a wall gets added. Expression of the inner child is beheld. Resistance. The expression of the child within, keeps one in purity, innocence, curiosity. Laughter over little things keeps the child alive within. How can one live authentic self? It is by expressing the heart, expressing and living from the space of the heart, not by the hardness of logic; logic can be converted into wisdom by aligning with the heart energy. By being like a child; not clinging on to fixed notions, by connecting to heart wisdom. Suppression of Authentic Self There is suppression instead of expression of authentic self, why is that so? This is mostly in order to receive acceptance, approval; approval of society, family members, even approval of self by denying the authentic self. Expression of authentic self may come as a ‘rebellious’ attitude for others, a different attitude, different ways of doing things from the ongoing norm-culture.’ Different’ can be felt intimidating to self as well, and so layers add up. In order to live an authentic self, go within, self-enquire on things that cause friction within. Do not deny. Pay attention to the expressions you project, they hold the clue to the ongoing inner environment. Pay attention to what is suppressed within. Self-enquire; investigate the thoughts you hold, beliefs that guide your actions, emotions that you find yourself in. Enquire on aspects such as: What excites me about life? What is it that I am believing in, which is causing me misery? What belief must I change then? What must I believe, in order to make the emotional change? How is it that I want to feel? Decide. Be aware. Focus on changing emotion/ feeling first and then taking actions. Come to an emotional state first which feels good. Follow the inner calling and live it. Living authentic self is an art of healthy life expression. When done consciously, it feels empowering. Here Is The Latest Pac-12 Conference Sports News From The Associated Press – Mankato Free Press https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/here-is-the-latest-pac-12-conference-sports-news-from-the-associated-press-mankato-free-press-2/ UNDATED (AP) — No. 7 USC and Oregon State are both undefeated heading into Saturday night’s game at Reser Stadium. The Trojans have a high-scoring offense with quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Jordan Addison. The Beavers make the most of their roster on offense. Oregon State is seeking to go 4-0 for the first time since 2012, while USC looks to match its win total from last season. UNDATED (AP) — Oregon State has a chance to start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2012 with a win over No. 7 Southern California. The Beavers beat USC 45-27 last season for their first win in the Coliseum in more than 60 years. There are currently four Pac-12 teams in the latest AP poll, but a win over the Trojans could very well elevate the Beavers into the rankings. In other Pac-12 games, No. 15 Oregon travels to Washington State and Sun Devils interim coach Shaun Aguano makes his debut after taking over for Herm Edwards. Arizona State will host No. 13 Utah. UNDATED (AP) — Washington State linebacker Daiyan Henley is a transfer from Nevada who might be the steal of the transfer portal this year as the Cougars prepare to host No. 15 Oregon on Saturday. Henley had a huge day in Washington State’s 38-7 victory over Colorado State, registering 13 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles. The senior was named Pac-12 defensive player of the week. Henley will be challenged Saturday by Oregon’s veteran offensive line and standout quarterback Bo Nix. TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State would have a tough task beating No. 13 Utah this weekend even in ideal circumstances. The Sun Devils will play their first game with interim coach Shaun Aguano in charge when they host the Utes on Saturday night. The school fired coach Herm Edwards on Sunday after the team’s embarrassing loss to Eastern Michigan. Aguano called the opportunity to lead the Sun Devils a “dream” even though he considers Edwards a good friend. Now it’s his job to help the Sun Devils salvage a season that’s quickly gone south. SEATTLE (AP) — Washington is showing the troubles of previous seasons may be in the past after a 3-0 start to the first season with Kalen DeBoer as head coach. The latest victory over Michigan State vaulted the Huskies back into the AP Top 25 at No. 18. Now the challenge is proving to the rest of the Pac-12 that Washington is back. That begins this weekend with the Huskies hosting Stanford. It’s the conference opener for the Huskies, while the Cardinal dropped their first conference game. Stanford has lost seven straight Pac-12 games dating back to last season. UNDATED (AP) — Arizona and California are both looking for a fast start in conference play when they meet in their Pac-12 opener. Both teams won two of three in nonconference play. The Wildcats have already exceeded their win total from the previous two seasons combined. The Golden Bears have won five straight home games. UNDATED (AP) — The UCLA Bruins have won six straight games since last season as they head into their Pac-12 opener at Colorado. The Bruins haven’t won more than six straight since opening 8-0 in 2005. The Buffaloes may be playing to save coach Karl Dorrell’s job. Athletic director Rick George put out a statement to quell the fan base after a 49-7 loss at Minnesota. He said he understands the disappointment and frustration for a team that’s been outscored by a 128-30 margin. UNDATED (AP) — The early-season starts by the four Pacific Northwest schools would have had all the hallmarks of an exciting race in the Pac-12’s North Division. If only the North Division still existed. The current season marks the first time that the two teams with the highest winning percentage in conference games will meet in the championship game. The Pac-12 decided to do away with divisions after the NCAA Division I Council changed the rule requiring conferences to have divisions to conduct championship games. Washington, Washington State, and Oregon State are all off to 3-0 starts, while Oregon is 2-1. The Huskies and Ducks pulled off significant wins last weekend, with Washington defeating No. 11 Michigan State 39-28 and 25th-ranked Oregon beating No. 12 BYU 41-20. Which Metaverse Is Superior: Decentraland (MANA) Or Sandbox (SAND)? Yucatan Magazine
Which Metaverse Is Superior: Decentraland (MANA) Or Sandbox (SAND)? Yucatan Magazine
Which Metaverse Is Superior: Decentraland (MANA) Or Sandbox (SAND)? – Yucatan Magazine https://clarkcountynewsnow.com/which-metaverse-is-superior-decentraland-mana-or-sandbox-sand-yucatan-magazine/ Decentraland and Sandbox are significant words in the area of the metaverse. Let’s examine the distinctions between Decentraland and Sandbox and understand what is better, mana or sand. Metaverse is a prevalent term in tech discussions nowadays. The whole tech industry expects the metaverse, but it’s undefined. Think 1980s internet. The metaverse is a three-dimensional virtual world where users may interact as digital avatars. Amid all the buzz around the metaverse, the Decentraland vs Sandbox argument has begun to gather traction. Both are entirely decentralized metaverse systems with no central authority. So, what are their distinctions, and which one is superior?  The first need for a comparison between sandbox and Decentraland is a summary of the respective definitions. Anyone who carefully follows metaverse news must have heard of the current top two leaders in the area. There are several parallels between the two, although there are also many substantial variances. Let’s begin by defining both platforms to determine, if there is one, which is superior: sandbox or Decentraland. Definition Decentraland (MANA) Decentraland, the early pioneer in the metaverse area, began in 2017 and is a fully immersive and entertaining 3D metaverse. It focuses on allowing users to acquire land parcels in addition to exploring the vast virtual globe. Decentraland offers participants a variety of activities, including gaming, casinos, galleries, and concerts, among others. It is now the longest-running project inside the metaverse. Decentraland launched in 2020 with a $24 million ICO. On the platform’s virtual land, people may develop unique experiences. MANA and LAND are tied to Decentraland. MANA, the platform’s ERC-20 token, may be burned to buy LAND tokens, which are ERC-721. The MANA token is accepted in the Decentraland marketplace for avatars, wearables, products, and names. Definition Sandbox (SAND) The next significant participant, Sandbox, began as a blockchain-based virtual world in 2011 and transitioned to a 3D game platform in 2017. The virtual world enables users to construct, play, exercise ownership, and monetize all of their virtual experiences. One of the key goals of Sandbox is to enable blockchain community artists, designers, and gamers to construct the platform according to their vision. Sandbox provides the optimal environment for releasing creativity in the creation of contemporary game ecology. The idea combines the advantages of NFTs and DAOs to empower a community of gamers that is continually expanding. Sandbox is an ingenious play-to-earn paradigm that assists users in their growth as gamers and producers. The platform provides a utility token, SAND, which is required for all platform-based transactions. MANA is a great creative medium, entertainment source, and economic opportunity for corporations, individuals, and artists. It’s a fast-growing DAO project. MANA token holders control Decentraland. Sandbox is a blockchain-based virtual environment that uses SAND. Users may create, trade, and buy digital items and experiences on the platform, which also supports blockchain-based games. Sandbox emphasizes user-generated content and develops a player-driven environment. Want to know about other cryptocurrencies? In other words, you can currently get an iPad, AirPods, AirTag, or Apple Pencil (2nd generation), and have them engraved with emojis, names, initials, numbers, and dates. But there’s a pleasant surprise for customers who engrave their second-generation AirPods Pro charging case. Apple said that users will be able to see the engraving design while pairing and connecting their second-generation AirPods Pro to their iOS device. You Can See the Engravings on Your AirPods Pro Charging Case on Your Screen The second-generation AirPods Pro will soon arrive at the homes of those who pre-ordered them. When pairing this device with your iOS device, you will encounter a pleasant surprise if you decide to have them engraved, according to MacRumors. As previously mentioned, when you pair your second-generation AirPods Pro with your iOS device, the engraving you made on the charging case will be displayed on the screen. Although it doesn’t add any key features, it is still a pleasant touch to see your custom design on the display. Read More: Apple’s Online Store Is Down as it Prepares Pre-Orders for iPhone 14 Models What Can You Expect With the Second-Generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ Of course, the new AirPods Pro offers more than just the engraving functionality. Better Active Noise Cancellation and the new H2 chip that brings improved battery life, and enhanced controls with touch-sensitive stems are some features of this high-end device. The new AirPods Pro case adds a lanyard hole on the side and a small speaker on the bottom. However, this speaker does not intend to play music. Per XDA, when the case is lost or placed on a charger, the speaker on it makes a sound, which will alert the user. Pros and Cons of Having Engravings on Your Apple Products Having engravings on your Apple products may sound cool for some people. However, there are things you should consider if such a feature is for you. According to Apple Magazine, these are the advantages of having engravings on your Apple products: You can personalize your devices using these engravings. If you have memorable phrases or dates, having them engraved on your devices can make it feel more personal to you and help you get the most out of your Apple products. It will be more difficult for thieves to sell your belongings if your Apple products have personalized messages on them. It will also make it easier for you to trace your device. You can easily distinguish your device from other similar products. This is especially helpful if you live in a house with other people with the same gadgets. If you want to gift an Apple product to your loved ones, having a personalized message engraved onto them will be extra memorable.  Here are the cons of having engravings on your Apple products: Unfortunately, even your Apple devices with engravings on them weren’t stolen, they would be harder to resell than those without any engravings. Having them engraved can prolong delivery time. You can only engrave limited amounts of characters. On Wednesday, the Federal Open Market Committee raised its fed funds target range by 0.75% to between 3% and 3.25%. The move marks the third 0.75% rate hike for the Fed in four months as it continues to battle inflation. In response to the rate hike, interest rates on 2-year and 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds reached their highest levels in more than a decade. Ten-year rates traded at 3.71% on Friday, while 2-year Treasury rates hovered around 4.19%. On Wednesday, DoubleLine Capital CEO and so-called “bond king” Jeff Gundlach told CNBC the Federal Reserve waited too long to raise rates and is now being too aggressive with its policy tightening, putting the health of the U.S. economy at risk.
