HTML for People
HTML for People
HTML isn’t only for people working in the tech field. It’s for anybody, the way documents are for anybody. HTML is just another type of document. A very special one—the one the web is built on. I’m Blake Watson. I’ve been building websites since the early 2000s. Though I work professionally in the field, I feel strongly that anyone should be able to make a website with HTML if they want. This book will teach you how to do just that. It doesn’t require any previous experience making websites or coding. I will cover everything you need to know to get started in an approachable and friendly way.

Viberary
Viberary
Viberary is a search engine that recommends you books based not on genre or title, but vibe by performing semantic search across a set of learned embeddings on a dataset of books from Goodreads and their metadata. It returns a list of book recommendations based on the vibe of the book that you put in. So you don't put in "I want science fiction", you'd but in "atmospheric, female lead, worldbuilding, funny" as a prompt, and get back a list of books. This project came out of experiences I had where recommendations for movies, TV, and music have fairly been good, but book recommendations are always a problem. Here is my (@cogdog) attempt and the results have a good vibe! https://viberary.pizza/search?query=Smart+talking+animals

Book Dash is a South African social impact publisher of free books for very young children. Our vision is that “Every child should own a hundred books by the age of five”, before they enter school! To that end, Book Dash gathers creative professionals who volunteer to create new, African storybooks that anyone can freely translate and distribute. We employ our unique, 12-hour book-making methodology to create beautiful new books in just one day! Then, we share with the world, here on our website and in physical format for children to own.

Weird Old Book Finder
Weird Old Book Finder
Created by Clive Thompson as a way to help “rewild your attention” Behind the scenes, here’s what it’s doing, which is pretty simple: i) You type in a query, and ii) my app sends it to Google Books, and filters the results for pre-1927 public domain. Then iii) it picks one at random and displays it to you. Learn more at https://clivethompson.medium.com/a-search-engine-that-finds-you-weird-old-books-3a74fbb5f3d4

ReadUps
ReadUps
A ReadUp is a social reading experience. Think of it as meeting up inside a book. ReadUps offers a web-based reading system that works on tablets and laptops. With it, you invite friends to read with you for a limited amount of time. In addition, you can share comments on any paragraph, or message the other readers in real time. All you need to do is give people the URL for your ReadUp and you're good to go! To slap a password on the ReadUp (so only the people you share the password with can get in), buy a $5 upgrade. When the allotted time runs out, the ReadUp disappears.
