Hobo Lobo of Hamelin
Hobo Lobo of Hamelin
Hobo Lobo of Hamelin is a thing by a dude, who’s all like, “I’M GONNA MAKE A THING.” And then he did. Or is doing. Or, you know, whatever. This dude can be found on the internet. He kerns alphabet soup and rearranges window dressing in the aether to put food on his family.

An Incredible B&W Photograph of a Man Feeding Ducks and Swans
An Incredible B&W Photograph of a Man Feeding Ducks and Swans
Polish photographer Marcin Ryczek captured this gorgeous black-and-white photograph of a man feeding ducks and swans in Kraków, Poland (here’s a high-res version of the photo). It’s amazing how picture perfect the framing and the scene are. The photo is like a spontaneous yin-yang image, with the man dressed in black in front of white snow, and white swans swimming on dark water.

Street Photography: Exploitative vs Respect
Street Photography: Exploitative vs Respect
Over the last couple of years we’ve seen a rise in interest by many dPS readers (and around the web) in the topic of street photography and street portraiture. While I love the idea of documenting what’s going on in a neighbourhood there are times when I view some street photographers work that I can’t help but feel a little… uncomfortable at what is being presented. By no means is it in all street photography but there are times where what is presented is very confronting – not only to those viewing the images but sometimes the act of taking some street photography seems quite confronting, intrusive and even at times exploitative to the subjects of photos.

Storyboard : Read the TV and Movies you don't want to watch
Storyboard : Read the TV and Movies you don't want to watch
Storyboard was born of my insane desire to consume videos without actually having to watch them. Normally that would involve putting the TV on in the background and ignoring the video while listening to the audio, but what about the reverse? All visual without the audio. On my kindle. Storyboard is very much a work in progress, though it does work for most files that it has been tested against. Right now it will only create PDFs, but ePUB and Mobi are just a few commits away. The source is available on Github where pull requests are gladly accepted, especially ones that deal with open issues. Even just hearing back that Storyboard did or didn't work for a certain file can be of great help.

Science, storytelling, and "gut churn": Jad Abumrad on the secrets of creative success | Brain Pickings
Since 2004, Radiolab has been sparking a singular kind of magic at the intersection of science and storytelling, redefining not only public radio but also the “role of scientific culture in modern society,” to borrow Richard Feynman’s words. In this fantastic talk from The 99% Conference, Radiolab mastermind and MacArthur genius Jad Abumrad takes us behind the scenes to explore the tribulations and triumphs of building a novel paradigm from the ground up.

The Last Calendar - NYTimes.com
The Last Calendar - NYTimes.com
To try to cope better with this situation, my brother and I created a shared Google calendar — an online calendar in which we could both make entries from wherever we happened to be. Each time either of us spoke to our father, we marked it in the calendar — what time of day it was, how he sounded, what we spoke about. The upshot was that we had an excellent record of how he was — whether he was getting out, if he was cheerful or feeling low, changes to his medicines, any falls he said he had had. The calendar also allowed us to make sure that one of us spoke to him just about every day. And if I couldn’t reach him, I didn’t have to wonder if he was lying hurt and helpless at the bottom of the stairs for days — I could look at the calendar and see that my brother had spoken to him a few hours ago.

The Amazings
The Amazings
The Amazings was born out of a single, simple idea. Society has always learned from its elders. But somewhere along the way we have lost that connection between generations - which means losing rich, valuable, and rare skills. We're on a mission to fix this.

A history of subversive remix video before YouTube: Thirty political video mashups made between World War II and 2005 | McIntosh | Transformative Works and Cultures
Filmmakers, fans, activists, artists, and media makers have been reediting television, movies, and news media for critical and political purposes since almost the very beginning of moving pictures. Over the past century, this subversive form of populist remixing has been called many things, including appropriation art, détournement, media jamming, found footage, avant-garde film, television hacking, telejusting, political remix, scratch video, vidding, outsider art, antiart, and even cultural terrorism.
