How to Prevent People from Tracking You on the Internet - wikiHow
The internet was built for convenience; not for security. If you surf the internet as much as an average person capable of accessing it, chances are you have many people tracking your browsing habits in the form of spyware, scripts, and maybe even through a camera! With this kind of information, a person from anywhere on the planet can figure out who you are, where you live and much more personal information.

Some Internet-Use Tracking Firms to Reveal What They Know - WSJ.com
Seeking to head off escalating scrutiny over Internet privacy, a group of online tracking rivals is building a service that lets consumers see what information those companies know about them. The project is the first of its kind in the fast-growing business of tracking Internet users and selling personal details about their lives. Called the Open Data Partnership, it will allow consumers to edit the interests, demographics and other profile information collected about them. It also will allow people to choose to not be tracked at all. Read more: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704377004575650802136721966.html#ixzz1b5bSRnPZ

Facebook Privacy: Mississippi Woman Sues Facebook, Saying It Tracked her Online Movements After She Log Off - ABC News
A Mississippi woman has sued Facebook in federal court, accusing it of violating federal wiretap laws to track her online activity, even when she wasn't logged onto the site. Facebook denies the allegations, but it has conceded in the past that it inadvertently tracked users through so-called cookies -- small files a website sends to your computer when you visit. It has said it fixed the problem before the Mississippi suit was filed.

Dear Photograph
Dear Photograph
“Take a picture of a picture from the past in the present”, is the tagline and submission policy for a Tumblr called “Dear Photograph,” created by the twenty-two-year-old Taylor Jones. The principle is simple: readers submit photos of old photos, held up against the original backdrop, and caption them with short, often quite poignant letters to the original image

Living Digitally: Everything You Need to Know About How to Digitally Self Publish
Living Digitally: Everything You Need to Know About How to Digitally Self Publish
If you're thinking of publishing to the Amazon Kindle, Apple iBooks store, or to the Barnes & Noble Nook, this article will provide you with everything you need to know to get started. It is the result of many hours of research and experimentation, and probably represents the most comprehensive guide on digital self-publishing currently available. Keep in mind that this is necessarily a living document; I've been shocked at how much the industry has changed just since early 2010, and I expect it to continue to change at an equally rapid pace for the foreseeable future. As it does, I will update this resource to reflect everything I continue to learn.

The Deleted City
The Deleted City
The Deleted City is a digital archaeology of the world wide web as it exploded into the 21st century. At that time the web was often described as an enormous digital library that you could visit or contribute to by building a homepage. The early citizens of the net (or netizens) took their netizenship serious, and built homepages about themselves and subjects they were experts in. These pioneers found their brave new world at Geocities, a free webhosting provider that was modelled after a city and where you could get a free "piece of land" to build your digital home in a certain neighbourhood based on the subject of your homepage. Heartland was – as a neigbourhood for all things rural – by far the largest, but there were neighbourhoods for fashion, arts and far east related topics to name just a few. Around the turn of the century, Geocities had tens of millions of "homesteaders" as the digital tennants were called and was bought by Yahoo! for three and a half billion dollars. Ten yea

New York City is a Geologic Force (Geologic City Report #13) « FOP
For the last month we’ve been working diligently to wrap up Geologic City. We’re happy to announce that within the next week the project files will be off to the printer—and the printed guide will available in early September! This project has been a monumental part of our lives this past year. Recent geological events have convinced us even more that now is the time to creatively respond to the geologic forces that shape our lives—and to acknowledge the forces and flows that we humans add to the mix. Additional Geologic City updates will be posted soon, and next week we look forward to sharing news of exciting fall projects on the horizon.

This Is That is a current affairs program that doesn't just talk about the issues, it fabricates them. Nothing's off limits--politics, business, culture, justice, science, religion--if it's relevant to Canadians, we'll find out the "This" and the "That" of the story. Each week, hosts Pat Kelly and Peter Oldring introduce you to the voices and stories that give this country character in this 100% improvised satirical send-up of public radio.
