Dad Takes Photos Of Himself And His Daughter Sitting On The Couch Since 2007, He Looks Better In Each One | Bored Panda
Like a fine wine, some people only get better with age. Part of it has to do with genetics, but a large portion depends on your lifestyle. And a perfect example of looking better and better with time is Dr. Alec Couros, a professor of educational technology and media at the University of Regina in Canada. He took photos of himself and his daughter sitting on the couch together with laptops since 2007, and while his daughter has grown up, her transformation wasn’t the only one that was impressive. It would be no stretch of the imagination to say that Dr. Couros looks better as the years go by. Not only does it look like he doesn’t age, in fact, at 48 years old, he looks much younger, more energetic, more full of life, and more handsome than before. In an exclusive and in-depth interview, Dr. Couros talked to Bored Panda about the photos with his daughter, how he changed his life, as well as about the foundation of a healthy relationship between parents and children. Read on for the full interview, as well as the professor’s challenge for all of you Bored Pandas out there.

How to Add Websites to the Home Screen on Any Smartphone or Tablet
Your smartphone or tablet’s home screen isn’t just for apps. Whatever platform you’re using, you can pin your favorite websites to your home screen so you can quickly access them. Some platforms offer bonus features. For example, Chrome for Android opens these websites in their own windows with no browser interface, while Windows 8 and Windows Phone offer live tile updates on some websites.

A friend asked for a help in his project where he required to list all the comments a registered user made on the site. So just for play, I created a small plugin which provides you with a shortcode which you can use on a page link example.com/my-comments/ or whatever.

Display the Terms of a Custom WordPress Taxonomy - Igor Benić
Have you been working with custom WordPress taxonomies and post types? There are many ways to display associated terms in a custom WordPress taxonomy for a post. In this article we will go through them to show you how you can easily display the associated terms. We can do pretty much everything with custom taxonomies. They can be used for content to serve as regular categories or tags but they can also be used as a filterable option on a search page. They could be used also just to give a better description or specification of a content, product, portfolio or something else.

Before Netscape: The forgotten Web browsers of the early 1990s | Ars Technica
"Their efforts—over half a dozen browsers within 18 months—saved the poorly funded Web project and kicked off the Web development community," notes a commemoration of this project by the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. The best known early browser was Mosaic, produced by Marc Andreesen and Eric Bina at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Mosaic was soon spun into Netscape, but it was not the first browser. A map assembled by the Museum offers a sense of the global scope of the early project. What's striking about these early applications is that they had already worked out many of the features we associate with later

Photographer Kurt Moses uses miniature model figures the size of a penny, and photographs them on location in real-world environments. " My goal is to capture a whimsical, evocative photo which initiates a storyline and allows the viewer to draw their own conclusion". Kurt is a Minnesota native and a professional photographer with a graphic design background, he is the creative mind behind the project. His wife, Edwige, comes from the tiny french island of St Martin, she inspires Kurt daily and is a devoted supporter of his art. The husband and wife team started this fine art photography project called Un Petit Monde (a small world) in 2010. They live on the road full-time and volunteer in State and National Parks across the country.

JavaScript Async/Await and Promises: Explained like you’re five years old.
JavaScript Async/Await and Promises: Explained like you’re five years old.
Anyone who calls themself a JavaScript developer has had to, at one point, work with either callback functions, Promises, or more recently, Async/Await syntax. If you’ve been in the game long enough, then you’ve probably seen the transition from the days where nested callbacks were the only way to do asynchronous JavaScript. When I first started learning and writing JavaScript, there were already a billion guides and tutorials out there explaining how to use them. Yet, many of them were just explaining how to convert between callbacks to Promises, or Promises to Async/Await. Admittedly, for many, that is probably more than enough for them to get along and write code. However, if you are like I was, and really wanted to understand asynchronous programming (and not just JavaScript syntax!), then perhaps you’ll be in agreement with me that there is a shortage of content out there actually explaining asynchronous programming from the ground up.

The interface on this website can support you to generate a multi-layer stencil from an input image. A stencil is essentially a cut-out template that can be used to paint with color onto a surface. The stencil material acts as a binary mask that decides if the color reaches the surface or not. Multi-layer stencils are multiple such stencils applied on top of each other with a fixed ordering, such that each layer contributes a certain color to the result. To create a stencil, follow the provided stepwise interface. In this first step you can either select an image or upload your own by clicking on the "Create New Stencil" button. Your uploaded image file can have JPG or PNG format and must be smaller than 2 MB. A stencil is a thin sheet of material, such as paper, plastic, or metal, with certain patterns cut from it. Applying a pigment through the cut-out holes produces a design on an underlying surface. Using multiple overlapping stencil layers, artists can create intricate, yet reproducible imagery on a variety of surfaces. Traditionally, artists have to design not only the final appearance, but also each individual stencil layer. A stencil layer needs to be connected, geometrically simple, and physically stable. Taking all these constraints into account during the design process is difficult and unintuitive even for skilled artists. In this paper, we propose a system which separates the artistic design stage from the complex and tedious task of stencil creation. For a given user design, our algorithm automatically generates a set of stencil layers satisfying all required properties. The task is formulated as a constrained energy optimization problem and solved efficiently. Experiments, including a user study, are carried out to examine the complete algorithm as well as each individual step.

BRCK | Rugged, Portable WiFi Hotspot & Battery Extender
We’re a team of software developers, engineers and technologists in Nairobi, where we build the tools for connectivity that we need ourselves. We’ve long asked ourselves why we use devices designed in Europe and the US, when we live in Africa, where they don’t fit our infrastructure needs – where electricity and internet connections are problematic in both urban and rural areas. BRCK is the only company in East Africa that has a full stack of engineering for products: electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, firmware and OS software teams, as well as full-stack cloud engineers. Beyond that, we have in-house design, user experience and product management, making BRCK a truly unique company in the region. Since we started in 2013, we have created the original BRCK v1, the Kio Kit for education, the SupaBRCK for enterprise connectivity, compute and storage, and the PicoBRCK for rugged IoT needs. Besides designing circuit boards and ruggedized cases, our team also writes the firmware, operating systems and cloud stack of software that allows all of our devices to be remotely managed. There are cloud-syncing platforms for content, data from sensors and edge of the network storage.

This coffee cup can be reused 132 times. Here’s how to try one
Despite 40-plus years on this big, blue rock, I’ve come to the realization that I don’t actually know all that much. Except how to make web videos. I’ve made hundreds of them over the years and currently create product videos as my day job. Here are some of the tips, tricks, and apps I use on a regular basis to make better videos with a reasonable amount of time, budget, and expertise. My advice is best suited to you if you’re just getting into video making or perhaps have made a handful of videos already and are looking to get a bit more serious.

Boost your JavaScript Debugging Skills With These Console Tricks
Boost your JavaScript Debugging Skills With These Console Tricks
The cookie-cutter way of debugging JavaScript code is to simply output the results via the console.log method. While it works, it’s not the most optimal way of doing things. If there are better ways out there, why not explore them? “Hello from the console” The console object provides access to the browser's debugging console. You can use the console object only if run your JavaScript code on the browser, i.e client-side code, not server-side code. How it works varies from browser to browser, but there is a de facto set of features that are typically provided. The best part of the debugging statements is they work with all libraries and frameworks since they’re baked inside the core language.
