Twin Falls Canal Company To End Water Delivery Oct 14 – News Radio 1310 KLIX https://collincountynewsonline.com/twin-falls-canal-company-to-end-water-delivery-oct-14-news-radio-1310-klix/ TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)-Irrigators with the Twin Falls Canal Company will see water shut off mid-October. General Manager Jay Barlogi announced the headgates at Milner Dam will be closed on October 14. It’ll take several days before water stops flowing through the canal system. The Canal Company asks irrigators to inform their ditch riders if they are done using water so headgates can be closed to help conserve water in the reservoir. Barlogi wrote the reservoir system heading into the winter is low, “The Upper Snake River Reservoir System currently contains only 15% of its overall capacity. The two reservoir systems that the Twin Falls Canal Company hold storage rights in are American Falls Reservoir at 5% of total capacity and Jackson Lake Reservoir at 19% of total capacity.” He said at this point its hard to predict what the 2023 water year will be like, but given the current storage capacity they’ll need an above normal snowpack this winter. “We also know that we need to manage our water supply as efficiently as possible at the end of the current season to help with next year,” said Barlogi. Once the irrigation season is over winter maintenance will begin. The Worst Movies Based On Good TV Shows Sometimes horrible movies happen to bad television series. Here are the worst offenders.

Korean Crypto Bank Partners With Blockdaemon To Offer Retail Staking Services – Cointelegraph https://collincountynewsonline.com/korean-crypto-bank-partners-with-blockdaemon-to-offer-retail-staking-services-cointelegraph/ In January, Delio was granted Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) approval by the Korean Financial Intelligence Unit. 342 Total views 4 Total shares Crypto-focused finance company Delio has partnered with Blockdaemon to launch retail-focused staking services, giving customers a more seamless way to earn rewards on their digital asset holdings. Delio’s staking services expand its existing crypto-bank offerings, which include lending, deposits and deposit accounts, the company announced Thursday. The new service offering is powered by blockchain infrastructure provider Blockdaemon, which provides a suite of institutional staking products. While Delio didn’t specify which crypto assets will be included in the new staking services, Blockdaemon currently supports integration with over 60 blockchains. Delio representative James Jung also clarified that the firm also plans “to offer a variety of crypto asset financial services for users outside of Korea.” Founded in 2017, Blockdaemon achieved unicorn status last year after securing $155 million in a Series B funding round. In the startup world, a unicorn is a company that achieves a valuation of $1 billion or more. At the time, Blockdaemon was valued at just over $1.25 billion. U.S. Flight Cancellations Fell In July But Complaints Remained High – Reuters https://collincountynewsonline.com/u-s-flight-cancellations-fell-in-july-but-complaints-remained-high-reuters/ Delta Airlines and an American Airlines planes taxi away from their gate ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday at Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S., November 22, 2021. REUTERS/Brian Snyder Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com WASHINGTON, Sept 22 (Reuters) – U.S. passenger airline flight cancellations in July fell to 1.8% from 3.1% in June, although air travel service complaints rose 16.5%, the U.S. Transportation Department said on Thursday. The Transportation Department has been pressing airlines to improve service and boost staffing as summer travel woes snarled tens of thousands of flights. Airlines say Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control staffing has been a significant factor in cancellations and delays. The Transportation Department said complaints in July were more than 260% above pre-pandemic levels. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com “The difference between a normal level of cancellation — it is never going to be zero with weather and stuff — a normal level is between 1 and 2%,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said last week. “If it’s 3% we feel it, it’s quite bad. If it is 4% that’s when you start seeing words like meltdown or chaos or hell in headlines,” The union representing federal air traffic controllers says the FAA needs to do a better job of ensuring adequate staffing. The National Air Traffic Controllers Association said the FAA had over 15,000 total controllers in 2011, including over 11,750 fully certified controllers, but said in July that in 2022 “there were more than 1,000 fewer (certified controllers) and 1,500 fewer total controllers on-board.” The FAA says it is on track to hire 1,000 controllers this year. This month, Democratic U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen asked the FAA to report additional air traffic control staffing data to Congress, acknowledging that airline staffing issues were impacting flights but saying that “understaffing at critical ATC facilities has also played a role.” Last week, United Airlines (UAL.O) Chief Executive Scott Kirby said air traffic control shortages were “by far … the number one issue” impacting traffic. “When you have air traffic control close a center down or close a region it leads to hundreds of delays and cancellations,” Kirby said. “When we just point the finger at airlines, when that’s not the biggest issue or the second biggest or the third biggest or the fourth biggest, we can’t fix it.” Kirby said the aviation industry must push for funding to ensure FAA has more staff. The FAA in response pointed to data that showed air carrier delays outpaced any other factor in July. “Airlines should focus on restoring customers’ faith by being transparent about the cause of interruptions and by delivering what they promise,” the FAA said. 9 Tips For Cruising The Mediterranean With Costa TravelAwaits
9 Tips For Cruising The Mediterranean With Costa TravelAwaits
9 Tips For Cruising The Mediterranean With Costa – TravelAwaits https://collincountynewsonline.com/9-tips-for-cruising-the-mediterranean-with-costa-travelawaits/ Costa Cruises invited me on almost back-to-back European cruises, and I learned a lot. I visited some of the most desirable and wonderful cruise ports (Rome, Barcelona, Istanbul, Athens), and I was also one of under 25 people onboard from the United States. Talk about an immersive vacation! I’ve cruised a lot, and never had I been in situations where English was not the primary language or not spoken at all and guess what? It was actually cool not having the upper hand for a change. Here are nine tips for cruising the Mediterranean with Costa that will ease your apprehension and help you get the most out of your cruise vacation. Barcelona, Spain Photo credit: Catarina Belova / Shutterstock.com 1. Expect Full Immersion To reiterate. Costa Cruises will take you a bit out of your comfort zone if you are from the U.S. You will be fully immersed in a group of like-minded cruise-loving multicultural passengers, where there will sometimes be a language barrier. Of course, you won’t have trouble finding menus and newsletters in English, but often, activities are only in Italian (this is an Italian cruise line) and French. There are also a handful of other languages, too.  On my cruises, Costa was just starting itineraries, and they hadn’t been back to work after COVID for very long. The ships were only running at about 33-60 percent capacity, which meant that the cruise tours and excursions were limited. Remember that Costa cruise excursions are in different languages, more so than any other cruise I’ve been on. Once, I had to take a port excursion in Barcelona that was in two different languages, neither of which was in English. I had been there before and just wanted to get better pictures, so I took my chances and went anyway. One of the two tour guides spoke a bit of English, so he could advise when and where to meet during our free time. I couldn’t understand any of the narrated details, but I got what I came for. Another time, we had three different languages on our bus and tour. That meant the times spent in churches and points of interest were longer than expected, as the guide had to switch hats and explain the scenery to each group, but I took that time to wander around on my own and take pictures. 2. We’re Not In Kansas Anymore Being an American on a European-based cruise ship means adjusting to things the way they do them in said country, which in this case is Italy. Dinner times in the main dining room were 7:00 p.m. for the early seating and 9:30 p.m. for the late seating. The first night I went to the main dining room with a group of other cruise friends; we didn’t leave until almost midnight. I’m an American. We eat around 6 p.m., so that took some getting used to.  Pro Tip: There is no dinner buffet on Costa Cruises. The reason being is that Italians prefer to make the evening meal all about family and sitting down together as an experience, so to speak, rather than quick service.  There are lots of other restaurant options, many of which require an additional fee. We dined at our favorite restaurants (namely Heineken Star Club & Bistro) at earlier times on most nights. Nightlife is a big part of Italian culture, so expect the ship to get rockin’ around 11 p.m. and last until the wee hours of the night. That doesn’t mean loud, obnoxious drunks running around; quite the opposite. There were people of all ages (some even old enough to be my grandmother) dancing and having a grand time. Watching the Europeans enjoy the ship’s activities, DJs, dance parties, and festivities was a beautiful thing. Pro Tip: I never had trouble understanding the Costa staff, nor did they have difficulty understanding me. I did encounter someone in the reception area who didn’t speak English, but she kindly and quickly got a colleague to answer my question. The Trevi Fountain Photo credit: Melody Pittman 3. Add On The Pre Or Post Cruise If you are flying from the United States, it is a long way to Europe. I’m on the West Coast and flew to Rome once and Istanbul another. That is an 18-22 hour day, depending on flight connections. I highly recommend you add on Costa’s pre and post-cruise days. Not only will it give you time to sightsee on your own in the embarkation city, but the price for the extension is reasonable. This goes for after the cruise, as well. In Rome, we disembarked at 8 a.m. But, if you were staying for the post-cruise, you could hang out on the ship and enjoy the food, pool, and activities before being bussed to the fantastic hotel. We did have to leave our stateroom, though. The hotel was within walking distance of the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. Transfers were included.  We didn’t leave the ship until around 1 p.m. on our Istanbul disembarkation. It was fantastic having Costa Venezia almost all to ourselves. We had complimentary meals, our beverage cards still worked, and we just enjoyed the scenery. I felt it added some much-needed relaxation before our taxing trip back home. Main dining room – Costa Venezia Photo credit: Melody Pittman 4. Book Your Restaurant Reservations Early Costa Cruises include the main dining room and buffet with your cruise. The other restaurants (there is an abundance) have a fee associated with them. It could be $5-$10 for a great meal in the Heineken Bar, $2 for the fries my daughter and I were addicted to daily, $3 for a bowl of gelato, a nutella and banana crepe, or $25-$30 for a four-course hibachi style meal. I recommend you research the Costa Cruises website (or go to my website for a Costa food and restaurant guide) and check Cruise Critic to see what’s available. You can book some restaurants online before your cruise. If that isn’t an option, book them as soon as you board the ship. That way, you can be sure to eat at all the places you want to try; they will fill up.  Thermal pool Photo credit: Melody Pittman 5. Familiarize Yourself With The Thermal Spa Some people like me are spa junkies, and others shy away from the spa. If you aren’t familiar with the thermal suite, you should check it out. There will be a free walk-through on the day of embarkation. Pro Tip: New to the spa? A hot stone massage is good for first-timers.  You can purchase a day or a week-long thermal suite pass to enjoy its offerings in the Solemio Spa. The amenities include heated mosaic chaise loungers (a personal fave), rainfall showers, a fabulous sauna and steam room, a huge thermal pool, and… get this… a snow room. Snow room Photo credit: Melody Pittman Yep, my Costa Toscana cruise ship had a snow room with temperatures below freezing, where you could step inside to get cooled off instantly. I’m not a fan of cold, wintery weather at any time, but for some reason, after being in the hot thermal pool every day, it was a refreshing way to end my spa day. Can you imagine how incredible the photos were? I can’t remember the exact cost, though I think it was $50 per day or $199 per week-long cruise. However, they had a special deal where you could get the weekly pass and spa service for $130. I always schedule a facial or body treatment, which is nearly the same price, so this was a major score for me. Pro Tip: The thermal pool and heated lounger area have floor-to-ceiling windows, an excellent place for ultimate relaxation and watching the world go by. 6. Using The Costa App Costa has a snazzy smartphone app to keep track of your cruise days, reservations, and such. However, the app was unavailable for those from the United States during my cruises. Fingers crossed they will get that fixed soon. 7. Bring A Converter Our cruise stateroom had USB plug-ins and European outlets (220-240) but no 110-volt outlets (standard American). Luckily, we brought a plug adapter converter from home. Istanbul, Türkiye Photo credit: Melody Pittman 8. Board At Multiple Locations You can board Costa ships at multiple locations for the same cruise. Costa uses a ferry schedule, which is the term to describe making your round-trip cruise from multiple ports that the itinerary visits. So, if you’d rather spend more time in Naples or Savona, you could do the Mediterranean cruise I did from Rome, but board and disembark there. The Costa Venezia in Türkiye Photo credit: idiltoffolo / Shutterstock.com 9. Bring The Family Multigenerational cruises are the best; I’ve experienced them and made family memories for years. Costa has the Squok (the name of the kid programs) Restaurant for families traveling with children. Though I didn’t have my granddaughter on these cruises, I would have loved a family outing that catered to her age group. Fun Fact: Carnival Cruises is bringing the Costa Venezia ship to North America for cruises sailing from New York starting in 2023. The Costa Firenze will follow in 2024 for Long Beach itineraries.

The average Joe can’t function without coffee, survey says    A new survey has revealed that three in four US coffee consumers report being unable to go a single day without coffee. Market research firm OnePoll surveyed 2,000 US coffee consumers for confectionery company Kinder Bueno and found respondents averaged two coffee beverages a day. Nearly half of those surveyed (45%) consider coffee as more popular across the country as a result of remote working and overtime. Additionally, 54% reported their productivity depends largely on whether they have had a coffee or not.    Lavazza cements museum ties with statue acquisition     The Lavazza Group has strengthened its commitment to the art world after acquiring Giacomo Gianotti’s bronze statue La Petroleuse Vaincue for the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, France. The Italian sculpture, from 1887, portrays a ‘woman of the people’ bound in ropes, recalling the role of women in the revolutionary Paris Commune of 1871. The acquisition coincides with Lavazza Group joining the Paris museum’s community of art patrons.    Julius Meinl puts down roots in sustainable coffee     As part of its wider ambition to make the coffee value chain more sustainable, Austrian coffee roaster Julius Meinl is collaborating with conservation charity the Jane Goodall Institute to plant thousands of trees in Tanzania. Julius Meinl said a tree will be planted on behalf of every hospitality outlet that chooses to serve its responsibly sourced coffee on World Coffee Day on 1 October 2022. Founded in Vienna in 1862, Julius Meinl is one of the world’s oldest coffee roasters and is present in more than 70 countries.    Bad Ass Coffee lightens the load for Hawaii’s donkeys     Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii has announced its new Give A Hoof programme, which it says pays tribute to its namesake – the donkeys of Kona, Hawaii. The chain, which currently operates 30 stores across the US, has partnered with two non-profits, Longhopes Donkey Shelter and Leilani Farm Sanctuary, to support donkeys in rescue shelters. Starting on 19 September 2022, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii’s Donkey Week, the company has pledged $1 from every sale of its ‘Be A Badass’ shirts and travel mugs to support a donkey in need.     Oatly pours funding into US coffee sustainability projects    Swedish oatmilk maker Oatly has launched the second iteration of its Big Idea Grant for Coffee initiative, which seeks to fund and support US coffee companies with their sustainability projects. Oatly has pledged up to $400,000 in grant funding for the initiative with applications open until 28 October 2022. Winners from the inaugural grant in 2021 include California-based Academic Coffee, which converted their parking spaces to host pop-ups that feature local small businesses, and Vermont-based 1A Coffee which now powers all its operations via solar energy.

Detroit Lions Mailbag: Thoughts On Goff Hockenson And Early-Season Surprises Detroit News
Detroit Lions Mailbag: Thoughts On Goff, Hockenson And Early-Season Surprises – Detroit News https://collincountynewsonline.com/detroit-lions-mailbag-thoughts-on-goff-hockenson-and-early-season-surprises-detroit-news/ Welcome to another weekly Detroit Lions mailbag. Let’s see what’s on your mind this week: ► Question: T.J. Hockenson and Jared Goff seem to be out of sync, what gives? — @roarrestored1 ► Q: At what point should we be concerned over Hockenson not taking that next step in his career? — @DirtyJerzFinest ► Answer: I don’t think the connection between Detroit’s quarterback and top tight end merits much immediate concern. Hockenson has been targeted 14 times and caught seven passes. He’s also been assessed two drops. Assuming he hangs on to those, you’re talking about a catch rate of 64.3%, which is only a touch off his career number of 65.6% coming into the season. The drops, in general, are not great, but every professional athlete hits lulls. If Hockenson’s hands continue to be an issue several weeks deeper into the season, it merits a deeper dive into what’s going wrong, including any changes in routes he’s being asked to run within the new scheme implemented by coordinator Ben Johnson. On the grander front, Hockenson’s looming contract extension continues to be an interesting conversation. He’s proven to be an above-average pass-catching option during his career, and while the blocking has lagged behind, he’s committed to improvement and there have been some noticeable strides being made in that department. The bar keeps getting reset with several of the league’s young tight ends scoring extensions. Most recently, Dawson Knox netted a four-year pact from Buffalo worth an average of $13 million per season and more than $31 million guaranteed. That’s with career-highs of 49 receptions and only slightly-better blocking, according to Pro Football Focus. So Hockenson’s eventual deal is still tracking slightly above that, even if his production stays at pre-established levels. ► Q: Should Lions fans be encouraged by Goff’s play or skeptical that it may inevitably lead to a cap-monopolizing extension? What are the future ramifications of him playing well this season? — @NoExcuseCharlie ► A: Like every conversation regarding whoever quarterbacks of the Lions, it depends on which camp you reside in. There are those who are plenty confident Goff possesses enough ability to be the franchise’s long-term solution and an alternative group that doesn’t, despite his recent string of success dating back to last season. His resume speaks for itself, with two Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl appearance. I don’t need to tell you he can do it, because he’s already done it. But to suggest there’s no possible way for the Lions to upgrade the position would be equally naïve. For as good as Goff has been to start the year — posting a passer rating over 100 — he’s still having issues with his downfield accuracy, he’s putting too many passes in harm’s way and he doesn’t offer the threat of mobility that so many of the young quarterbacks entering the league do. Ultimately, the Lions will have to make a decision, but there isn’t a huge rush. Goff’s under contract through 2024, so they can comfortably sit back and continue to assess the situation through the late stages of next season, assuming the rebuild remains on track. Regardless, I’m sure we’ll be talking about it plenty between now and the next draft. ► Q: Without somehow trading back for Darius Slay, how can the Lions best replicate Philadelphia’s success in containing Justin Jefferson? — @evanderjoseph ► A: It’s going to have to be a joint effort because we’ve seen nothing to suggest the Lions will have any of their cornerbacks travel with Jefferson, who regularly lines up on both sides on the outside, as well as getting plenty of work from the slot. That means Jeff Okudah, Mike Hughes and Amani Oruwariye, if healthy, will all draw snaps covering the Vikings star wideout. Minnesota has enough weapons, including the always-lethal Adam Thielen, that you can’t double Jefferson every snap, but I would anticipate the Lions will have linebackers cheating to help on some underneath routes, as well as routinely rolling the safety to that side to help bracket Jefferson. ► Q: Do you think this offense is really this good or are they overachieving? — @OldSchoolSport7 ► A: It sounds funny saying it, but you can make an argument they’re underachieving, with how many points they’ve left on the field the first two games. Of course, we should understand that we’ll rarely see that near-perfect level of execution, but we now know the potential is there for a 40- or even 50-point outburst if everything clicks. Obviously, the injuries along the offensive line present significant concerns. Without Frank Ragnow or Jonah Jackson close to full strength, opponents will increasingly find ways to expose those cracks in Detroit’s armor. That said, the Lions have a ton of weapons at the skill positions and I have little doubt they can be a top-10 scoring offense the rest of the way. ► Q: Where did John Cominsky and Chris Board come from? I don’t remember them from the preseason at all, but both have been making plays. — @MichaelFickII ► A: The preseason is weird like that, with a greater focus on fundamentals over anything else. The ability to open up the call sheet when game-planning in the regular season has brought both the players you mention to the forefront because of their ability to contribute on the pass rush. Unfortunately, it’ll be a minute before we see Cominsky again. He suffered a hand injury requiring surgery and he will be sidelined indefinitely. As for Board, he’ll continue to log between 10-20 snaps per game and should continue to offer value both in coverage and as a blitzer, where he’s been highly disruptive to start the year. As for where they came from, Cominsky was a waiver claim after he was cut by Atlanta this spring. Big, athletic, with a non-stop motor, he was a hot commodity, with eight teams putting in a claim. Board spent the last four years with the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted out of North Dakota State. A key special-teamer for the Ravens, he had seen his defensive role steadily grow before coming to Detroit. ► Q: Do you think the Lions would seriously consider replacing Goff with Lamar Jackson next season should he become available? — @DoctorOSP ► A: I’ve learned to never outright dismiss a possibility, but it’s difficult to see this scenario happening. The Ravens are probably going to slap a non-exclusive franchise tag on the QB, giving them the right to match any offer. And if they decline, the signing team has to send two first-round draft picks as part of the agreement. With Deshaun Watson’s $230 million guaranteed as the reported floor for negotiations with Jackson, you have to meet those demands, be willing to part with a pair of highly valuable draft assets and cut Goff, eating another $10 million cap hit. It’s a fun fantasy, but tough to see working in reality. ► Q: With the Lions’ success blitzing this year coupled with Cousins’ lack of success against the blitz, can we expect a heavy blitzing scheme this week? — @Markrollnfl ► A: The Lions have blitzed quite a bit, in both of their games, but it was definitely more effective against the Commanders than it was in the opener versus the Eagles. Still, Carson Wentz completed 10 of 17 throws for 91 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions when blitzed, while only being sacked once. But you’re right, Kirk Cousins struggled with the blitz on Monday night, and even if he hadn’t, I believe sending an extra rusher, particularly on third down, is part of coordinator Aaron Glenn’s identity. The Lions rank fourth in the NFL, blitzing 41.7% of the time, and there’s no reason to think that doesn’t continue this week. ► Q: How is Jameson Williams’ current rehab coming along? Is it still more likely that we’ll see him play after the bye week or is there a chance that we’ll see him get a few snaps in week 5? — @notishiiii ► A: While we haven’t checked in on Williams the last week, everything was progressing as expected throughout the offseason program. But while he is eligible to join the lineup in Week 5, it’s going to be a while longer than that. At the earliest, I could see the team opening up the rookie receiver’s practice window after the bye week (first practice, Oct. 19), and I’d fully expect the Lions to utilize the full three-week acclimation window to get his body right before activating him. All that to say, I’d pencil in a November debut for Williams. ► Q: Any idea why Austin Bryant didn’t play last week? — @FriedrichsJk ► A: When everyone is healthy, Bryant is behind Julian Okwara on the depth chart. Bryant being scratched was a reflection of Okwara finally being medically cleared to return after suffering a hamstring strain during training camp. Based on Dan Campbell’s comments this week, it sounds like Bryant is in line for another opportunity, helping replace Cominsky. ► Q: Now that the Lions are showing their abilities, is it time to cool it on the trickery and long shots? — @rollc2000 ► A: I don’t think you have to abandon gadget plays just because the team is getting more talented. Teams like the Rams, Chiefs and Bills still hit opponents with some trickeration on occasion, because it’s a good way to pick up an explosive gain, which often fuels touchdown drives. Now, what you might be asking is whether the Lions will need to lean on catching certain opponents off guard — like they did against the Rams last year — when they had to lean on fake punts and onside kicks to even have a shot against the eventual Super Bowl champions. There, I can agree. Those were desperate acts of a talent-deficient squad. Outside of Buffalo on Thanksgiving, I’m not sure there’s another game on the schedule where the Lions’ talent won’t be enough to compete. ► Q: Have not heard an...

Terra Luna Classic Crash To $0.000255? LUNC Price Prediction October – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/terra-luna-classic-crash-to-0-000255-lunc-price-prediction-october-cryptonews/ Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) has continued to go lower in price over the last few days. Now trading at just $0.000278 anxious holders are anticipating another move to the downside as the bulls lose momentum.  Will Terra Luna Classic recover? LUNC is available on eToro. Cryptoassets are highly volatile and unregulated. No consumer protection. Tax on profits may apply. Terra Luna Classic Price Prediction 2022 Just recently Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) lost a key support level of $0.000283 from a chart pattern known as a bear pennant.  A bear pennant is known as a bearish pattern which usually results in continuation to the downside. The trend prior to the pennant formation, is usually also down, hence why it is a continuation pattern.  We have just seen the first phase of the bear pennant play out, which is an aggressive downtrend. The pennant we see now which looks like a symmetrical triangle is the second phase, known as consolidation.  Traders would be looking for a potential breakout for Terra Luna Classic and are now targeting the key support levels of $0.000264 and $0.000255.  LUNC/BUSD – Daily Time Frame. The technical target of the bear pennant would bring the price of Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) down a total of 33.25% if the above support levels can not be held.  Bearish chart patterns don’t typically always have to play out by text book. Sometimes we can experience fake outs in the crypto market. Traders with a contrarian mindset might actually be tempted to go long at these particular support levels as the chance of a bullish reversal would become higher.  Many long-term holders of Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) will also deploy a dollar cost averaging strategy at key support levels and buy the red candles as opposed to green.  Should Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) lose a key support level of $0.000255 there is a risk that we might see negative continuation down to the $0.000165 price level. I speculate that LUNC will touch down at $0.000255 which would be an attractive level for buyers to rush in and pump the price back up to around $0.00033, this is where the bulls would have an opportunity to strike back and test for resistances one more time.  Terra Luna Classic Video Analysis Traders who have been in the crypto markets for a while now will know that Septembers are usually quite rocky for the blockchain markets. It is extremely rare that September is a fruitful month for Bitcoin and other crypto assets.  Whilst merely dubious speculation, there is a good chance that the markets could flip bullish as statistically over 75% of Octobers yield positive returns for Bitcoin.  Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) can be purchased on eToro. Mathis found the end zone twice after doing so just once in his first 23 contests with West Virginia. Donaldson, who is listed as a tight end, scored all three of his TDs in the first half, with the first coming on an 82-yard run in the opening quarter that gave the Mountaineers a 21-7 lead. He has reached triple digits in rushing yards twice in three games this season and has recorded for six of West Virginia’s 10 rushing TDs. Four different quarterbacks saw action for the Mountaineers on Saturday, with three throwing a touchdown pass and the other running for a score. Why Virginia Tech can cover Grant Wells is coming off his best performance of the season as he threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns against the Terriers. Wells threw passes to nine different receivers on Saturday and set the school record with 12 completions in the first quarter. The Hokies have gone 349 consecutive games without being shut out, the fifth-longest streak in FBS history, and also have been doing a fine job on the other side of the ball. The Dallas-based investor acquired more than 9,200 apartments in 17 Sunbelt markets from affiliates of Dallas’ Transcontinental Realty Investors and Australia’s Macquarie Capital. “This is an attractive opportunity to acquire a large-scale, diversified portfolio of newer vintage, well-located and well-maintained multi-family properties across the Sunbelt,” Lone Star Funds’ André Collin said in a statement. “The portfolio’s properties are located in attractive growth markets that we expect to benefit from continued, strong secular trends, including business relocations, population growth and in-migration and strong income growth.” Lone Star did not disclose terms of the transaction or identify specific properties included in the deal. AP photo by Michael Dwyer By: Adina Genn September 22, 2022 The U.S. Small Business Administration will host its first small business cyber summit on Oct. 25 from 12- 5 p.m. Admission is free. Experts will share best practices and resources to help small businesses protect against cyber-attacks. “America’s small businesses are pivoting to digital technologies and online strategies at historic rates to reach new customers and improve operational efficiencies, but that pivot has also exposed them to significant new threats from cyberattacks,” SBA Administrator Casillas Guzman said in a written statement. News of the summit comes more than a week after a cyberattack on Suffolk County, disrupting its ability to deliver services and pointing to the need for cyber-defense. These attacks are a growing threat to small businesses and the nation’s economy. The cost of cybercrimes against the small businesses hit $2.4 billion in 2021, according to the Internet Crime Report from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation. Because they often lack the security infrastructure of larger businesses, small businesses make for attractive targets because they have the kind of information wanted by cybercriminals . And many small businesses recognize that risk. An SBA survey found that 88% of  owners felt their business was vulnerable to a cyberattack. Yet many cannot afford professional IT solutions, have limited time to devote to cybersecurity or unsure as to where to begin to protect their businesses. “Our SBA team has mobilized to support them against these potentially disruptive threats with cybersecurity resources and trainings across our resource partner networks, as well as through our recently launched Small Business Digital Alliance. Launching the SBA’s first annual Cybersecurity Summit will help us build on that work and ensure America’s 33 million small businesses and innovative startups can pivot safely online and grow resilient businesses,” Guzman said in the statement. The summit features 10 segments that offer practical tips, problem-solving strategies, case studies, industry trends, threat avoidance and employee-skills training. Invited guests include experts from the SBA, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Small Business Development Centers, business chambers, state government partners and more. What Should You Eat For A Healthy Heart? – Firstpost https://collincountynewsonline.com/what-should-you-eat-for-a-healthy-heart-firstpost/ Representative image. Image: Shutterstock When it comes to your heart, what we eat really matters. There are many things you can do to keep your heart healthy. Although, we all know that eating certain kinds of foods can increase the risk of heart disease. Irrespective of our age, a balanced and healthy diet supplemented with physical exercise is surely a fool-proof way to manage and monitor your heart’s health. Heart Patients should make sure that the products they consume should not contain saturated or trans-fat. Eating fresh food is better for anyone who wants to maintain a healthy lifestyle. You may also go for an annual checkup, quit smoking, exercise daily, or take steps to reduce your stress levels. All of these things can have a positive impact on your heart health. But, one of the simplest lifestyle changes is what you eat. Eating healthy is very important. Here are some of the things that you should eat for a healthy heart: 1. Black Beans: Mild and tender black beans are rich in heart-healthy nutrients. Folate, antioxidants, and magnesium can help in lowering your blood pressure. Fiber helps to control both your cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Add beans to soups and salads. 2. Asparagus: Asparagus is considered to be a natural source of folate, which helps in preventing the buildup of an amino acid called homocysteine from in the body. High homocysteine levels have been linked with an increased risk of heart-related conditions, like coronary artery disease and stroke. 3. Vegetables and Fruits: Vegetables and fruits are believed to be good sources of vitamins and minerals. These are low in calories and are rich in dietary fiber. Get ready for Week 3 with all of our preview content here:   Week 3 Start ‘Em & Sit ‘Em: QB | RB | WR Starts, sits and sleepers for every game Week 3 Position Previews: QB | RB | WR | TE Week 3 Rankings: Jamey | Dave | Heath | Chris Here’s what else today’s newsletter will cover: 3⃣Dave Richard’s Week 3 Preview Week 3 Position Previews 3⃣Dave Richard’s Week 3 Preview There are the obvious calls, and then there are the ones you need help with. Dave Richard goes through each game to identify the most interesting matchups and biggest lineup dilemmas for Week 3. Here are some of his top picks for this week. You can find the rest of his advice for Week 3 here: Starts JuJu Smith-Schuster– “Smith-Schuster is definitely more of a touchdown-needy option in non-PPR, and that’s something we shouldn’t count on. You should start Smith-Schuster in PPR formats especially because he has six-catch potential. He’s worth trusting in those leagues over Marquise Brown, Amari Cooper and Terry McLaurin.” Dameon Pierce — “The rookie is clearly evolving as a tackle-beating rusher, so anything his improving O-line can do to find him space before contact will obviously fuel his efficiency, but running to the edges should benefit him too. His playing time should remain steady, if not favor him if Houston builds a lead. I’d give Pierce a nod over A.J. Dillon, Travis Etienne and Ezekiel Elliott.”  Sits Tom Brady — “I don’t think I’ve ever recommended sitting Brady two weeks in a row, but this one seems too easy. Brady won’t play with Mike Evans, won’t have Chris Godwin, can’t get great numbers out of Russell Gage, might have Julio Jones and would have Breshad Perriman as a top outside target either way. Behind an offensive line that’s got its own issues, this is not ideal.” Dawson Knox — “Knox remains a streaming tight end with touchdown-or-bust potential. I’d rather start Logan Thomas, Irv Smith and even Tyler Conklin in PPR leagues.”  Sleepers Jarvis Landry — “I wouldn’t get too cute with Landry, but the matchup suggests he’s in the flex conversation in PPR formats at a minimum and a super-sneaky DFS play. The whole world will talk about Chris Olave‘s 300-plus Air Yards last week, but I’d rather chance it with the safer secondary Saints receiver.” Rashaad Penny — “Atlanta’s defense, at least in terms of run defense metrics, isn’t bad against running backs. They’ve allowed 4.0 yards per carry and are right around league average in terms of yards before and after contact. But they haven’t quite been tested, only seeing 38 rushes against them through two games. Because of that, and because teams are converting third downs at a high rate against them on the ground, their defensive total rush EPA is third-worst. That’s going to stand out to Pete Carroll.” Bust Candidate Tua Tagovailoa — “If you start Tagovailoa, you’re hoping he passes enough to fall into good production against the league’s top defense minus a couple of its starters. That’s absolutely reasonable, but it’s also reasonable to expect Tagovailoa to struggle under pressure with some turnovers. Safer quarterbacks in more favorable matchups (Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Joe Burrow) are preferred to Tagovailoa, but other passers without the firepower and/or in tough matchups (Carson Wentz, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady) shouldn’t be started over the Dolphins quarterback.” By submitting my email I agree to receive the “Fantasy Football Today Newsletter” and other marketing and promotional emails from CBS Sports, which may include information from our affiliates and/or partners’ offers, products and services. Week 3 Position Previews Every week, Heath Cummings previews each position, providing injury insights, key stats to know, the best waiver-wire adds, DFS targets, and more for quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end. Here’s a brief rundown of each position, along with all of the injuries you need to know about for each position: QB Preview “Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson should all enter the Hall of Fame on their first try. Brady and Rodgers are completely deserving of being a part of the GOAT discussion at the quarterback position. But you won’t find any of them in my top-12 quarterbacks in Week 3, and the rest of their Fantasy seasons is at least questionable at this time.” Number to know: 24 — Tom Brady and the Buccaneers offense is ranked 24th in the league in first down pass rate. Last year, the Bucs had the second highest pass rate.  Matchup that matters: Aaron Rodgers @ TB (2nd vs. QB) Waiver add/streamer: “It’s a pretty terrible week at quarterback, but Mariota’s rushing ability and good matchup make him a borderline start against Seattle. He’s a better option in leagues that only reward four points per pass touchdown because it would be very surprising if he throws more than two. But he could run for another as well.” Stash: “Trubisky and the Steelers face a mediocre Jets defense in Week 4. That defense made Jacoby Brissett look competent in Week 2.”   QB Injuries Justin Herbert (ribs) — LP. The Chargers have called Herbert day-to-day with rib cartilage fracture, and he’s been able to throw during the team’s off day and was going through individual drills Wednesday. This is likely a question of pain tolerance, and at this point, I’m expecting Herbert to play this week, and I’m starting him as long as he does.  Lamar Jackson (elbow) — LP. Jackson had his arm in a protective sleeve and didn’t throw any passes during Wednesday’s session. It’s the first time he’s been listed on an injury report with an arm injury, per ESPN, but he told reporters he expects to practice Thursday and play Sunday.  Jameis Winston (back, ankle) — LP. Winston suffered several fractures in his back during the season opener and is also dealing with the ankle injury suffered some time during Week 2. He’s expected to play through the issues, though obviously there’s some concern about how they’re going to impact his play — as well as risk of further injury forcing him from the game. Winston is a mid-range QB2.  Zach Wilson (knee) — LP. Wilson continues to aim for a Week 4 return from his preseason knee injury, with the expectation that he’ll start to practice in full by next week. Joe Flacco will start against the Bengals in Week 3 and is not a recommended option even in a pass-heavy start to the season.  RB Preview “It only took two weeks for the running back situations in the NFC West to look like an absolute disaster. But that doesn’t mean they’re without upside. The 49ers have already placed Elijah Mitchell on injured reserve and now they’ll be without Tyrion Davis-Price for the next few weeks as well. That leaves their situation as the most clear, with Jeff Wilson as a feature back for as long as he can stay healthy. But Wilson has had plenty of injuries in the past himself and has never proven able to hold up to the type of workload that’s coming. Expect an extended role for Deebo Samuel and add Jordan Mason just in case things go wrong with Wilson.” Number to know: 26% – Breece Hall received just 26% of the Jets’ running back snaps compared to Michael Carter‘s 61% in Week 2. Matchup that matters: David Montgomery vs. HOU (27th vs. RB) Waiver add: “As of now we don’t expect James Conner to play in Week 3 and we expect Williams to lead the backfield without him. But there’s a low degree of confidence in both, so don’t make a huge splash in terms of FAB. Williams should handle a majority of the short-yardage work, which gives him a slight edge, but this is a bad matchup and it will be a committee.” Stash: “The 49ers running backs continue to go down to injury with Tyrion Davis-Price now expected to miss multiple weeks with a high ankle sprain. That leaves Jordan Mason as the top backup to Jeff Wilson, who has never played more than 12 games in an NFL season. By Week 4 Mason could be the starting running back for the 49ers with no one of consequence behind him.” RB Injuries D’Andre Swift (ankle) — DNP. Per Lions coach Dan Campbell, Swift is “certainly better than he was this time last week,” which is a good sign after he played through the injury in Week 2. They limited his exposure a bit, but Swift still broke big plays and found the end zone and remains a must-start Fantasy option as long as he’s healthy enough to play.  James Conner (ankle) — DNP. Conner was called “day to day” earlier in the week by Kliff Kingsbury, but obviously that does not preclude him from missing this week’s game. Darrel Williams would be the likely goal-line back and preferred starter for...

Alibaba Leverages The Metaverse To Offer ‘Multi-Dimensional Interactions’ To Luxury Customers – Retail TouchPoints https://collincountynewsonline.com/alibaba-leverages-the-metaverse-to-offer-multi-dimensional-interactions-to-luxury-customers-retail-touchpoints/ With China set to become the world’s largest luxury market by 2025, Alibaba is intent on building out the immersive digital experience on its Tmall Luxury Pavilion to capture those consumers. As the luxury platform celebrates its fifth anniversary, Alibaba has introduced a host of new ways for customers to engage with luxury brands on Tmall, including AR and XR (extended reality) experiences, exclusive products that can only be accessed through a digital “Meta Pass” and a host of virtual avatars, mascots and events. Tmall Luxury Pavilion currently features more than 200 luxury brands (up from 150 before the pandemic) from all the major luxury groups — Hermès, Chanel, Richemont, Kering and LVMH — which combined introduce more than 30,000 new products on the platform every month. From 2019 to 2021, the Luxury Pavilion has seen its customer base grown by more than 150% and sales have increased nearly 300%. To celebrate the platform’s anniversary and solidify its dominance in online luxury, the Luxury Pavilion will host an augmented reality fashion show on Sept. 22 in collaboration with Vogue China. Instead of supermodels, “super mascots” — digital characters created by the brands — will strut their virtual stuff down a virtual runway. Viewers can interact with these super mascots in various ways, including taking selfies with them. Luxury Pavilion also is introducing a new Meta Pass that will give shoppers priority digital access to products from brands such as Burberry and Max Mara. Digital warrants certified on the blockchain will be part of the Meta Pass package that consumers who act fast enough can exchange for limited-edition products. “We all know how digitally savvy the Chinese consumers are and how fast they’re able to embrace new technologies,” said Janet Wang, Head of Alibaba’s luxury division in a statement. “Today 96% of Chinese consumers shop online-offline, or cross-channel. We do believe the metaverse is going to be a game-changer. Through these technologies we are able to provide multi-dimensional interactions between customers and the brands.” Simulation of the Tmall XR experience currently in development. Tmall Luxury Pavilion also is developing an XR experience that the company showcased for luxury executives at a special ceremony in Shanghai. While not yet available to consumers, the XR experience aims to further merge the physical and digital worlds. The technology was developed by Luxury Pavilion in conjunction with the XR Lab in Alibaba’s research division, DAMO Academy. Tmall Luxury Pavilion is no stranger to the world of cutting-edge digital experiences, having already deployed 3D shopping, AR and VR try-on, digital avatars and digital collectibles. More than 20 luxury brands have released digital art collectibles on the platform and hosted virtual fashion shows where consumers send their avatars into the metaverse to dress up in luxury products via the 3D avatar game “Taobao Life.” This year, Cartier, Vacheron Constantin and Burberry were among a group of brands that also offered video consultations through one-on-one livestreams with VIP customers. To help the brands it supports prepare for this brave new frontier in retail, Tmall Luxury Pavilion plans to release a white paper in conjunction with consultancy Roland Berger this month sharing the results of these online experiences. “Before ‘metaverse’ became a buzzword, we had already transformed this buzzword into a commercial reality,” said Wang. “The digital world can provide consumers with the same, or even better, shopping experiences and luxury brand identities as the real world.”

Russian Officials Approve Use Of Crypto For Cross-Border Payments: Report – Cointelegraph https://collincountynewsonline.com/russian-officials-approve-use-of-crypto-for-cross-border-payments-report-cointelegraph/ Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev said the policy describes “how to acquire cryptocurrency, what can be done with it” and its use in cross-border settlements. 281 Total views 2 Total shares The Bank of Russia and the country’s Ministry of Finance have reportedly reached an agreement allowing cross-border settlements in cryptocurrencies. According to a Thursday report from the Russia-based publication Kommersant, Russia’s Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev said the government department has agreed “on the whole” with the central bank over a rule that would let residents send cross-border payments using cryptocurrencies. The proposed policy change was reportedly aimed at allowing Russian nationals access to digital wallets. “[The policy] generally describes how to acquire cryptocurrency, what can be done with it, and how it can or cannot be settled with it in the first place in cross-border settlements,” said Moiseev, according to the report. Russian news agencies had been reporting that the central bank had been discussing the issue of cross-border crypto payments with government officials. However, the Bank of Russia reportedly opposed allowing crypto exchanges to operate legally and not accepting cryptocurrency as legal tender. On Sept. 5, Moiseev said: “Now that people are opening crypto wallets outside the Russian Federation, it is necessary to do this in Russia with entities supervised by the central bank, which are required to comply with Anti-Money Laundering and Know Your Customer requirements.” Russia has had a mixed relationship with crypto. In 2020, the country passed legislation prohibiting the use of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC) for payments. President Vladimir Putin also signed a bill into law in July banning digital financial assets as payments. In May, Trade Minister Denis Manturov suggested Russia would legalize crypto payments “sooner or later.” Related: 72% of Russians say they have never bought Bitcoin: Survey Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, the government, businesses, and certain individuals within the country have been the target of comprehensive economic sanctions. On Sept. 15, the United States Treasury Department added 22 individuals and two Russia-based entities to its sanctions list, claiming they had furthered the government’s objectives in Ukraine.

The federation had been criticised by Human Rights Watch for their “silence” on the issue. While plans are still being finalised, US Soccer have indicated a desire to join the UEFA coalition, who announced their support for both compensation and the creation of a Migrant Worker Centre on Wednesday. It is understood they are also attempting to involve other North American federations, including Canada and Costa Rica, in joining the coalition. The body has also hired a “compliance officer” to monitor whether labour laws are being followed by the team hotel and other vendors, and presented on the issues to players. However, Human Rights Watch told The Athletic on Wednesday evening that they were concerned about the lack of public statement from the federation.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com WASHINGTON, Sept 22 (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee voted Thursday to approve a bill aimed at allowing news organizations to band together to negotiate with Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) Google and Meta’s (META.O) Facebook and win more revenue. The bill passed the committee by a vote of 15 to 7, according to a congressional aide. It must now go to the Senate for their approval. A similar bill is before the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill is aimed at giving news and broadcast organizations more clout after years of criticism that big tech companies use their content to attract traffic and ad revenue without fairly compensating the publishers, many of which struggle financially. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The bill, led by Democrat Amy Klobuchar, attracted some Republican support, with Senators John Kennedy and Lindsey Graham sponsoring it. Other Democrats, like Senator Alex Padilla, expressed reservations about it. The bill hit a speed bump earlier this month when Senator Ted Cruz won backing for a plan to include provisions to address what he considers the platforms stifling conservative voices. On Thursday Klobuchar won support for an amendment that specified that prices for use of content was the issue. “The goal of the bill is to allow local news organizations to get compensation when major titans, monopolies like Facebook and Google, access their content,” she said at a committee session to vote on the bill. Unlike other bills aimed at reining in big tech, some progressive groups oppose this measure, including Public Knowledge, on the grounds that it favors big broadcasters like News Corp, Sinclair and Comcast/NBCU. CCSO Arrests Dealer Linked With August Death Of Princeton Resident – Princeton Herald https://collincountynewsonline.com/ccso-arrests-dealer-linked-with-august-death-of-princeton-resident-princeton-herald/ After responding to a drug overdose at a Princeton residence in August, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in connection with the case, according to a Thursday, Sept. 15, news release. Investigators assigned to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office Gang and Habitual Offender Strike Team (GHOST) began an investigation to identify the dealer responsible for selling the Fentanyl-laced drugs that killed a 29-year-old man. On Aug. 5, Collin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a drug overdose at a residence on FM 546 in Princeton, Texas. Upon arrival, Deputies located a dead male in his bedroom, collected evidence and interviewed family members and witnesses.  Among the items investigators collected was a counterfeit Percocet pill that was later lab tested and determined to contain Fentanyl. “Here in Collin County we have seen a 571% increase in the number of Fentanyl-related drug overdose deaths in the past 36 months, said Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner. “Make no mistake, these are fatal Fentanyl poisonings, an act on the part of the Mexican drug cartels who use Fentanyl and its addictive qualities to intentionally increase addiction among Americans.” After a thorough investigation, GHOST Investigators identified the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for Gabriel Aldo Fossatti, a Princeton resident. Fossatti is charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance causing death or serious bodily injury, a second degree felony. A judge also signed a search warrant for Fossatti’s residence. For the full story, see the Sept. 22 issue of The Princeton Herald.

Best Bodyweight Exercises To Do On Vacation Mens Journal
Best Bodyweight Exercises To Do On Vacation – Men’s Journal https://collincountynewsonline.com/best-bodyweight-exercises-to-do-on-vacation-mens-journal/ When we travel, we’re all about exploring sights unseen, savoring new foods, and engaging in adventure and relaxation. But we’re not total hedonists. We also like to squeeze in a few workouts. There’s just something about working out away from our typical environs—perhaps without a gym—that both energizes and grounds us way out yonder. The key is to work in the best bodyweight exercises when you’re on vacation. “It’s more than possible to work out on vacation,” says Brooklyn-based Shaun Zetlin, CPT. “All you need is your own body weight and a little bit of space.” Even just taking 10 minutes to move your body provides a multitude of benefits and will have you feeling refreshed, energized, and excited to enjoy your time away, Zetlin adds. The brief hiatus from heavy lifting, endurance work, and/or lots of high-intensity interval training can do your body some good, too. If you’re traveling for long stints of time, as in working remotely for an extended stay, then it’s a good idea to keep your daily activity levels up. “Taking a prolonged break from exercise can actually put you at higher risk for injury when you return to the gym, depending on how long you’re away,” says Janelle Fleites, CSCS, owner of Impact Physical Therapy and Sports Performance, in Miami, FL. The key to getting a good lift in without a gym, she notes, is adding tempo and isometric holds while increasing the reps and sets of the exercise for increased demand on muscles. Mike Nicholson, CSCS, fitness director at Chelsea Piers Fitness, headquartered in Manhattan, echoes these views on the virtues of working out while on vacation. “Exercise increases your endorphins and makes you feel good, so working out on vacation will naturally help you enjoy your new surroundings even more,” he says, adding the post-workout rush of endorphins may also help your confidence, too. Nicholson recommends firing up your “powerhouse” (core, glutes, shoulders, and diaphragm) to maximize neuromuscular activation around your spine and hips. “Keep the workout low-impact to minimize the fatigue you put on your central nervous system and focus on deep breathing during movement to increase oxygen flow, which will elevate feelings of well-being and enhance your mood,” he says. The goal is to get the blood flowing and move your body—and not to be so exhausted post-workout that you have to cancel your walking tour plans.

Bank Of England Hikes Rates But Avoids More Aggressive Step 69News WFMZ-TV
Bank Of England Hikes Rates But Avoids More Aggressive Step 69News WFMZ-TV
Bank Of England Hikes Rates But Avoids More Aggressive Step – 69News WFMZ-TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/bank-of-england-hikes-rates-but-avoids-more-aggressive-step-69news-wfmz-tv/ LONDON (AP) — Britain’s central bank raised its key interest rate Thursday by another half-percentage point to the highest level in 14 years, but it avoided more aggressive steps to tame inflation that the U.S. Federal Reserve and other banks have taken. It is the Bank of England’s seventh straight move to increase borrowing costs as rising food and energy prices fuel a cost-of-living crisis that is considered the worst in a generation. Despite facing a slumping currency, tight labor market and inflation near its highest level in four decades, officials decided against acting more boldly as they predicted a second consecutive drop in economic output this quarter, a long-held informal definition of recession. The bank matched its half-point increase last month — the biggest in 27 years — to bring its benchmark rate to 2.25%. The decision was delayed for a week as the United Kingdom mourned Queen Elizabeth II and comes after new Prime Minister Liz Truss’ government unveiled a massive relief package aimed at helping consumers and businesses cope with skyrocketing energy bills. The measures eased uncertainty over energy prices and are “likely to limit significantly further increases” in consumer prices, the bank’s policymakers said. They expected inflation to peak at 11% in October, lower than previously forecast. “Nevertheless, energy bills will still go up and, combined with the indirect effects of higher energy costs, inflation is expected to remain above 10% over the following few months, before starting to fall back,” the monetary policy committee said. The U.K. decision comes during a busy week for central bank action marked by much more aggressive moves to bring down soaring consumer prices. The U.S. Federal Reserve hiked rates Wednesday by three-quarters of a point for the third consecutive time and forecast that more large increases were ahead. Also Thursday, the Swiss central bank enacted its biggest-ever hike to its key interest rate. Surging inflation is a worry for central banks because it eats away at consumers’ purchasing power. The traditional tool to combat inflation is raising interest rates, which reduces demand and therefore prices, by making it more expensive to borrow money. Inflation in the United Kingdom is running at 9.9%, close to its highest level since 1982 and five times higher than the Bank of England’s 2% target. The British pound is at its weakest against the dollar in 37 years, contributing to imported inflation. To ease the crunch, Truss’ government announced it would cap energy bills for households and businesses that have soared as Russia’s war in Ukraine drives up the price of natural gas needed for heating. The Treasury is expected to publish a “mini-budget” Friday with more economic stimulus measures, and the bank said it won’t be able to assess how they will affect inflation until its next meeting in November. The Bank of England expects gross domestic product to fall by 0.1% in the third quarter, below its August projection of 0.4% growth. That would be a second quarterly decline after an Office of National Statistics estimate that output had fallen by 0.1% in the second quarter. The bank avoided pressure to go bigger even as other banks around the world take aggressive action against inflation fueled by the global economy’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and then the war in Ukraine. This month, Sweden’s central bank raised its key interest rate by a full percentage point, while the European Central Bank delivered its largest-ever rate increase with a three-quarter point hike for the 19 countries that use the euro currency. Review Calls For Shake-Up Of English Domestic Cricket – The Indian Express https://collincountynewsonline.com/review-calls-for-shake-up-of-english-domestic-cricket-the-indian-express/ Domestic cricket in England could see a major shake-up if county sides vote through proposals that would create a six-team top division and reduce the amount of games played across formats. Former England test captain Andrew Strauss spent the last six months overseeing a high performance review for the England and Wales Cricket Board, launched in the aftermath of the 4-0 loss in Australia in the Ashes. The review presented 17 recommendations, 15 of which fall under the remit of the ECB and already have the required backing. Two key proposals involve a wholesale reorganization of the county calendar and need the support of at least 12 of the 18 first-class counties to go ahead. Strauss’ panel advocates a reduction from 14 matches per team in the County Championship to 10, with a six-team top division sitting above two secondary conferences who would play off for one annual promotion. Games would be played more evenly throughout the season in this four-day format, rather than the current model that sees matches crammed into the start and the end of the campaign — either side of the new Hundred tournament. The men’s High Performance Review has today published its final report – setting out 17 recommendations for cricket to consider and implement The full report is available to view: — England and Wales Cricket Board (@ECB_cricket) September 22, 2022 The Blast, a Twenty20 tournament and a popular cash cow for several counties, would also be pared back from 14 group games to 10, with the 50-over Royal London Cup moved to April as a curtain-raising knockout tournament. The overall reduction in days is intended to create time for more rest, coaching and analysis, creating more intense competition. While that is likely to go down well with a large proportions of players, many of whom have found the 2022 model an unsatisfactory mish-mash of competitions and formats, there is a clear financial implication at stake. Fewer matches will mean less revenue, not only at the gate but also among the membership, who will effectively see less cricket for their money. Strauss, whose mission statement is to make England the best cross-format team in the world within five years, said he believes the “status quo is not an option.” “Everyone in the game is telling us this. We have listened, we must now act,” Strauss said. “I honestly feel this set of proposals can make a massive difference to the game. Of course, anything in our domestic structure is very contentious and it’s for the game to go away, talk and debate. We can still do a lot of good without the final two recommendations, but I think they’re a good demonstration of the hard decisions we need to make as a game, and how serious we are in trying to achieve this ambition.” Strauss said he wants to have a “coherent schedule.” “The answer to quality is not quantity. A higher standard, more intense red-ball competition should be a great thing for members, for players, for ground staff, for coaches. We need to understand it’s not all about volume,” he said. “We think it’s a very complete package but there are going to be elements of it that certain people feel are not in their interest, and we understand that. That’s the reality of the domestic structure. You can’t solve one thing without unsolving another.” A final decision on the structural changes should come by the end of November, but the earliest they could be adopted is the 2024 season — meaning one more year of a structure that Strauss’ team has effectively discredited. “We’ve been in a race against time to get these recommendations out there so that the counties can vote on it for the 2023 season, but I think we’ve run out of time,” he said. “But these are difficult conversations and important decisions. Sometimes you’ve got to look at the bigger picture and understand that it’s better to walk to the right solution than jump off the edge of a cliff.”
