First-to-Own fans can now get on the limited whitelist for the baddest, best rendered NFT Characters ever, from Web 3’s most rambunctious new NFT gaming project
, /PRNewswire/ – Hostile Crypto Inc. announced the limited pre-release of its ground-breaking HC Hogz NFTs. The premint of just 2750 HC Hogz characters is the first stop on a game development road-map planned as an all-out fight-game assault on Web 3.

HC Hogz NFT Takeover (CNW Group/Hostile Crypto Inc.)
The HC Hogz project is creating a thrilling fight-game entertainment environment with real estate in the Metaverse, and an ultimate goal of in-game earning for players. The game storyline, based on the exploits of a hard-living gang of misfit motorcycle outlaws, guarantees maximum mayhem. HC Hogz will be crypto powered, building community engagement through direct input from NFT stakeholders. HC Hogz society is harsh –nomadic, chaotic, armed and violent. But the organized forces aiming to shut down the Hogz outlaw tribe are even more brutal and unrelenting.
Three fully animated 3D Hogz game character NFT’s will be on offer in the release. Each is a masterwork of 3D rendering, featuring quality that’s light years ahead of previous generations of NFT Apes and Kitties. Though life-like, Hogz ain’t pretty. These are the lead characters in a powerhouse fight game riffing off the exploits of badass modern-era pirates. It takes cunning and strong character to hold on to criminal independence in a changing world. These Hogz have it.
Each of the three characters on offer in Hostile Crypto’s pre-lease are premiere warriors, destined to rule in the Hogz game ecosystem:
The Boss Hog presents as cunning, ruthless and power-hungry. Could be he sees more deeply than he lets on, making tough calls to keep his outlaw clan together … and alive.
The Enforcer Hog is all action, with all the courage and war tactics to keep unruly outlaws in line – or else. In all situations, he focuses on results, reminding all that “there’s no honor in striking the wind.”
The Sketchy Hog is danger in a jar – unpredictable, savage, and lethal in any fight situation. He craves respect – but is usually too impulsive to hold on to it.
HC Hogz is the first game planned for release by Hostile Crypto Inc. The company’s game plan? To shake up the Metaverse vision, by purchasing ‘land’ and building a clubhouse where members can connect, and ultimately a full-on Sin City influenced post apocalyptic playground. There have been great warrior games. There have been great crime-world games. But there’s never been anything like HC Hogz –the evolution of hard-core gaming. Early membership is lucrative– with the HC Hogz NFT pre-release.

Editors Picks: Best Of Fall Baking Steals & Hacks 22 Words
Editor’s Picks: Best Of Fall Baking Steals & Hacks – 22 Words https://collincountynewsonline.com/editors-picks-best-of-fall-baking-steals-hacks-22-words/
The fall equinox kicks off a busy holiday baking season for me. I’m always on the lookout for baking deals, new holiday foods, and the latest kitchen gadgets. As my husband knows all too well, it takes a lot of supplies to tackle the holiday recipes I’ve eyeballed for months. I spend months leading up to fall searching for the best fall baking hacks and deals.
Yes, I may have a problem with fall baking finds. It’s not really my fault—I just can’t help but love all the food possibilities that holidays bring. For me, homemade food on the holidays means joy. I just want to spread some seasonal cheer! The good news is, I’m not keeping the cheer to myself. I’m letting you in on some of my favorite fall baking mixes and tools. These are the Halloween and Thanksgiving must-haves I always keep in my kitchen.
Whip Up Perfect Fall Cakelets
Did you know that the more beautiful food looks, the more likely you are to enjoy it? I bought this adorable baking pan that turns out acorns, pumpkins, and leaves because I wanted to bring new life to one of my favorite fall baking recipes. Pro tip: always coat baking molds with non-stick spray before using.
Pretty Up Cupcakes with Glittering Pumpkin Toppers
I wasn’t joking about how much appearance matters when I’m doing holiday baking. I’m a little bit picky, and I want all of the holiday food that leaves my kitchen to look amazing. When I’m short on time, I turn to easy décor like these pumpkin cupcake toppers. They’re pretty and easy to use.
Taste the Colors of Fall Leaves
Everyone loves the glorious red-and-orange palette of fall leaves, but it’s one of the hardest color schemes to pull off on a cake. Trust me, I’ve tried many times and failed. My “fall colors theme” always ends up looking more like a big fat mud puddle. This year I’ll be opting for edible fall leaf cake decorations instead. They are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l.
Make a Chicken Separate Your Eggs
Some of my favorite fall recipes call for egg yolks or whites that have been separated. I always painstakingly separated the yolk from the white using two dishes. That was a waste of time. I recently found this amazing chicken that separates eggs with no mess. It’s a must-have for anyone who loves baking.
Beat It with a Ball Whisk
Years ago, I tried making whipped cream by hand with a whisk. It was so hard that I wondered how fancy French pastry chefs in the 18th century made it at all. I found this ball whisk when I was looking for baking deals, and now I know. It has changed my life. It works perfectly and takes up so much less space than a traditional whisk.
Mold Some Festive Pocket Pies
One of my favorite holiday baking hacks is to make pocket pies, aka hand pies, instead of full-size pies. They’re easier to serve at a party or bring along on a trip to the apple orchard. I love these fall pocket pie molds because they make even the most basic pumpkin hand pies look festive and fun.
Pop It Out with a Pumpkin Mold
I love watching fall baking shows and stealing cool techniques from the pros. That’s how I learned that I could shape festive mousses, cheesecakes, and more with silicone molds. This mold makes perfectly shaped pumpkin confections. Hot chocolate bombs are one of my favorite fall foods to make in these molds.
Create a Cookie Cutter Holiday
For me, it just isn’t a holiday if I haven’t decorated a ton of sugar cookies. I recently upgraded to these stainless steel fall cookie cutters for more fun options. Fun tip: Instead of topping your apple pie with a traditional lattice crust, use crust cutouts made with these cookie cutters to create a fun design.
Make Delicious Gingerbread People, Fast
I’m a big fan of homemade. After all, almost everything tastes better when you make it from scratch. Gingerbread is one of my big exceptions to this rule. I started using this gingerbread mix because it’s a quick option on a busy day. Now I use it anytime I want to make gingerbread. It’s fast, more affordable than from-scratch, and every bit as good as a homemade batch of ginger people.
Pick Up a Pumpkin Mix
If it feels like fall outside, it feels like pumpkin bread time to me. Nothing goes together better than a fall celebration and baked goods flavored with pumpkin. I keep a few boxes of this pumpkin bread and muffin mix on hand. This is a go-to for me whenever I have a pumpkin craving or invite friends over in the fall.
Plate Up Some Pumpkin Spice Pancakes
Pumpkin spice is a fall force to be reckoned with. Half of the new fall products I see in the food and home aisles boast this signature autumn spice. No matter how many new candies or baking recipes I see with pumpkin spice, classic pumpkin spice pancakes will always be my favorite. I love serving a platter of these pancakes with whipped cream and maple syrup for topping.
Pour On Genuine Maple Syrup
Maple is a classic holiday flavor that features in everything from baked goods to roast meats. The trick to getting the best maple flavor in your fall baking is to use real maple syrup. Tip: Maple syrup is a perishable food product and will mold over time. It should be stored in your fridge after opening.
Get a Unique Taste with Pecan Butter
When I see unique nut butters in grocery ads, I can’t help but try them. This pecan butter is one of my favorite baking ideas so far. A little bit of pecan butter goes a long way and adds a ton of flavor to baking recipes that call for peanut or almond butter.
Accent Your Kitchen with Fall Towels
My kitchen sees a lot of traffic. I want it to look festive for Halloween and Thanksgiving, but it’s not the easiest room to decorate. Instead of trying to shove more décor onto my countertops, I opt for fall kitchen towels that bring a festive burst of autumn color to my space.
Break Out the Holiday Bundt Pan
Have you ever noticed how many holiday recipes are for bundt cakes? They’re generally easy to make, tasty, and perfect for serving a crowd. Honestly, though, bundts can be pretty boring too. This holiday, mix up your dessert table with a cake made in this harvest leaves bundt pan instead.
Get Decked Out in a Holiday Apron
More than a few of my nice cold-weather shirts have gotten stained in the kitchen. This holiday season, I’m protecting my shirts with a pretty fall apron. I’ve purchased this apron in a few different prints so I always have one on hand.
Drench Your World in Caramel
Look, this block of caramel is no joke. Weighing in at 5 pounds, it’s a holiday heavyweight and a real baking deal. Try one of my fall favorites by dipping marshmallows in caramel and rolling them in sprinkles. Pro tip: Use a mini slow cooker or fondue pot to melt caramel for dipping.
Give Joy with a Candy Apple Packaging Set
My dentist might not approve, but I still love indulging in caramel and candy apples. The only thing better than eating this delicious holiday food is giving one to a friend. This candy apple gift set makes it easier to give my candy apple creations to others without making a sticky mess.
Cut Clean-Up Time with Food-Safe Silicone Mats
If you like cleaning up after a long day of holiday baking, you’re not from this planet. I hate scrubbing cookies off baking pans most of all. It takes too much time and patience, but parchment paper for every batch of cookies gets expensive too. The answer? Food-safe silicone mats. I’m never going back to scrubbing.
Protect Yourself with Mini Oven Mitts
Until I found these mini oven mitts, I’d never met an oven mitt I liked. Most are way too big for my small hands and end up gathering dust. These miniature mitts protect my hands without getting in the way of my holiday baking.
Whip Up a Pie Crust in Double Time
Who else dreams of flaky pie crusts bursting with fall fruits? I know I’m not the only one! I love making my pie dreams come true with the help of this pie crust mix. It’s a great timesaver when I feel like I’m falling behind on my fall baking.
Make That Pecan Pie Without a Fuss
Pecans are right up there with chestnuts when it comes to classic holiday nuts. My Thanksgiving spread always includes a delectable pecan pie. This pecan pie in a jar is one of my favorite holiday deals because the only other ingredients I need to make a pie are a crust and some eggs.

Ukraine Will Push To Reclaim More Territory Through Winter U.S. Defense Chief Says The New York Times
Ukraine Will Push To Reclaim More Territory Through Winter, U.S. Defense Chief Says – The New York Times https://collincountynewsonline.com/ukraine-will-push-to-reclaim-more-territory-through-winter-u-s-defense-chief-says-the-new-york-times/
KYIV, Ukraine — Six and a half feet down a ladder inside a small shed at the back of Oleksandr Kadet’s home is an underground room with a cement hatch that he hopes he never has to use.
For the past two weeks, Mr. Kadet, 32, said that he and his wife, who live outside the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, had been preparing for the possibility of a nuclear attack by stocking the room — an old well that they converted into a bunker — with bottled water, canned food, radios and power banks.
“We are more anxious now, especially after yesterday’s attacks,” Mr. Kadet said on Tuesday, a day after a series of Russian missile attacks across Ukraine. “But we do think that in case of a nuclear explosion, we will be able to survive if we stay in the shelter for some time.”
The fears of escalation rose on Saturday after an attack on the 12-mile Kerch Strait Bridge connecting Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014. Initially, Ukrainians celebrated, but that quickly gave way to worry that such a brazen assault on a symbol of President Vladimir V. Putin’s rule could prompt a severe retaliation.
Even before these recent events, though, concerns about the potential for a nuclear disaster had increasingly been making their way into Ukraine’s national psyche. The fear is that Russia could either use tactical nuclear arms or launch a conventional attack on one of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
U.S. officials have said they think the chances of Russia’s using nuclear weapons are low, and senior American officials say they have seen no evidence that Mr. Putin is moving any of his nuclear assets.
On Sunday, Mr. Putin called the assault on the bridge a “terrorist attack aimed at destroying the critically important civilian infrastructure of the Russian Federation.”
But his spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, appeared to tamp down fears of a nuclear reprisal, saying that the attack on the bridge did not fall within the category under Russia’s defense doctrine that allowed for such a response.
Last month, Mr. Putin raised fears that he could resort to nuclear weapons when he warned that he would “use all the means at our disposal to protect Russia and our people,” if Russian-controlled territory was threatened.
“This is not a bluff,” he said.
Days later, Russia illegally annexed four Ukrainian territories.
Mr. Kadet, who noted that he had begun preparing two weeks ago, said it felt better to have an action plan.
“It’s psychologically easier because you know you are at least somehow prepared for it,” he said. “It’s not a guarantee it will save you, but at least you’re ready.”
Residents of Kyiv said that they had felt wary even before the most recent missile strikes there on Monday.
Immediately after the bridge attack, many Ukrainians had shared their glee on social media. They toasted triumphantly in the capital’s bars over the weekend, and posed for selfies in front of posters of the burning bridge.
But the worry soon set in.
“I feel this real fear about how the Russians will answer this,” said Krystina Gevorkova, 30, who was shopping with her friend in Kyiv on Sunday. “Earlier it had felt safer here,” she added. “Now, I have this feeling like something is going to happen.”
Kyiv has for months been spared the worst of the Russian onslaught while Moscow focused its attention instead on southeastern Ukraine. But on Monday, a Russian missile struck just blocks away from where Ms. Gevorkova had spoken.
She said that she had been reading up on how to stay safe during a nuclear war, but that she was skeptical that it would help.
“We can’t really do anything,” she said.
The war has felt far from Kyiv in recent months, as life’s rhythms return to a semblance of normalcy after Russian forces were ousted from parts of northeastern Ukraine. Nevertheless, the city has also been slowly preparing for a potential nuclear attack.
The Kyiv City Council said on Friday that potassium iodide pills would be distributed to residents in case of a nuclear incident “based on medical recommendations,” adding that the pills were also available in city pharmacies.
Potassium iodide is used to saturate a person’s thyroid with iodine so that radioactive iodine inhaled or ingested after exposure will not be retained by the gland.
Alina Bozhedomova, 23, a pharmacist in Kyiv, said that customers were coming in daily looking for the pills, but added, “I haven’t seen people panicking about it.”
Some elementary schools have advised parents to prepare emergency packs for their children to keep with them at school.
Nadiia Stelmakh, 50, who works in a market selling home goods, said that one mother had come to her with a list from the school that included latex gloves, a poncho, boot covers, tissues, wet wipes and a flashlight.
“People are really concerned right now,” she said. Her husband, Volodymyr Stelmakh, who has another stall nearby, agreed.
“I have an emergency bag packed,” he said, “but I think if the nuclear threat is imminent, you will have no time to run away.
After worries grew about the security of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in the country’s southeast in recent weeks, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health issued guidance about how to respond to a nuclear incident.
The risk of nuclear fallout can feel very real in Ukraine, a country that still bears the scars of the Chernobyl accident in 1986, one of the worst nuclear disasters in history. Chernobyl is only about 60 miles north of Kyiv.
And some who experienced the life-threatening fallout firsthand say that they, possibly more than anyone, understand the full risk of nuclear exposure. Oleksandr, 55, who asked that his last name not be used, said that he and his family had fled Chernobyl for Kyiv immediately after the meltdown, when he was just 18.
His family closely followed guidance to move south, as winds were pushing radioactive materials north, and he said that was the only reason they escaped unscathed.
“Now, people here are really not ready. People don’t know what to do,” he said. “There is not enough information.”
He owns a market stand that sells household necessities and said that more people had come in during the past two weeks preparing for a nuclear disaster, buying flashlights, batteries, knives, radios and small camp stoves.
While some were preparing for the worst, others remained optimistic that Russia would never carry out such an extreme attack, which would draw international outrage.
Dmytro Yastrub, 31, said he felt more concerned about Mr. Putin using conventional weapons to target Kyiv.
“I presume something will happen” after the bridge attack, he said, standing outside a bar in the Kyiv city center on Sunday evening with a group of friends. But, he added, the risk of a nuclear attack was not weighing heavy on his mind.
Svetlana Zozulia, 47, and her husband, Vladyslav Zozulia, 37, were walking in central Kyiv with their daughter, Anastasiia, 11, on Sunday night. Ms. Zozulia said she tried to remain optimistic and did not believe that Mr. Putin would launch a nuclear attack on Ukraine.
But she did buy potassium iodide tablets just in case, she said.
“I think our success disturbs him,” Ms. Zozulia said. “But there is also a threat for him if he chooses a nuclear attack.”

NASA Suggests New Space Cooling Technology Could Charge Electric Cars In 5 Minutes KRQE News 13
NASA Suggests New Space Cooling Technology Could Charge Electric Cars In 5 Minutes – KRQE News 13 https://collincountynewsonline.com/nasa-suggests-new-space-cooling-technology-could-charge-electric-cars-in-5-minutes-krqe-news-13/
(The Hill) – NASA has suggested an experimental cooling system it is funding could ultimately allow electric vehicle users to charge their cars within five minutes.
The agency said a team led by a Purdue University professor has developed the “subcooled flow boiling” technology for experimentation, with the hope it can control future systems’ temperatures in space.
“A team sponsored by NASA’s Biological and Physical Sciences Division is developing a new technology that will not only achieve orders-of-magnitude improvement in heat transfer to enable these systems to maintain proper temperatures in space, but will also enable significant reductions in size and weight of the hardware,” NASA said in a blog post last week.
“What’s more, this same technology may make owning an electric-powered car here on Earth easier and more feasible,” the post continued.
NASA indicated achieving such a feat of charging electric vehicles within five minutes would require chargers to provide current at 1,400 amperes, far higher than currently available technology.
Most chargers currently available support currents less than 150 amperes, while some of the most advanced chargers on the market deliver currents up to 520 amperes, the post noted.
But NASA said Purdue University’s developmental cable can provide currents of up to 2,400 amperes by removing heat through the new technology, which would deliver charging at 4.6 times the rate of the fastest charger currently available.
“Application of this new technology resulted in unprecedented reduction of the time required to charge a vehicle and may remove one of the key barriers to worldwide adoption of electric vehicles,” NASA wrote.
President Biden has emphasized a shift to electric vehicles as a significant component of his climate initiatives, but the proposals have been met with criticism among some in the GOP, who have portrayed the plans as elitist and boons for the rich.
Questions have also been raised about whether the U.S. electrical grid could even handle a hard shift toward EVs.
The Inflation Reduction Act, a party-line reconciliation package passed over the summer, includes billions in funding for electric-vehicle tax credits and other financial incentives.
It also includes a $7.5 billion investment to build a network of charging stations across the U.S.
“The great American road trip is going to be fully electrified,” Biden said in Detroit last month. “Whether you’re driving coast to coast along I-10 or on I-75 here in Michigan, charging stations will be up and easy to find as gas stations are now.”

The Ultimate Local’s Guide To Oaxaca – Thrillist https://collincountynewsonline.com/the-ultimate-locals-guide-to-oaxaca-thrillist/
The only complaint one might hear about visiting the southwestern Mexican state of Oaxaca is that there are too many things to eat, drink, see, and do—a seemingly impossible amount of worthwhile activities to conquer in a single excursion. Oaxaca offers landscapes that transform from pristine, fine-sand beaches to craggy mountain ranges to vibrant city centers. This region is to thank not just for introducing the rest of the world to mezcal, a spirit that’s distilled from the revered agave plant, with ancestral recipes passed down from generation to generation, but for rich culinary and artistic traditions that have also proliferated the globe.
But the true heart of Oaxaca is its people. Along with the Yucatán, the state boasts one of Mexico’s largest Indigenous populations, with Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Mixe, and Mazatecos representing a few significant groups. The Zapotecs in particular do not have a migration story and have called the state home for thousands of years, long before borders intersected it—it’s not uncommon to hear the language spoken in rural areas outside of Oaxaca City and you can visit the ancient Zapotec city of Monte Albán, which was founded around 500 BC and is one of the oldest cities in Mesoamerica.
Yet as the state explodes in popularity, many Indigenous Oaxacans are being cut out of the picture. According to Ivan Vasquez, a Oaxaca native who visits often to source items for his Oaxacan restaurants in Los Angeles, many local Oaxacans are being priced out of the region.
“Oaxaca is booming right now,” he says, “Which is great for local businesses, but also, many of those new businesses are not Oaxacan-owned. Local Oaxacan merchants aren’t able to afford rent anymore because people with money are coming from different Mexican states or outside of Mexico and taking over.”
Zapotec tour guide Lily Santos agrees, saying, “Gentrification is definitely happening. Oaxaca is one of the main states that migrates to the US, and it’s because they don’t have access to resources to make the life they want here. The money that tourists are spending is often not going to support local Oaxaqueños.”
The Oaxacan-owned businesses that Vasquez and Santos are referring to often lack resources that would help international tourists discover them, like English websites or social media accounts. Many English-speaking tourists don’t make attempts at other languages, which can alienate business owners who only speak Spanish or an even lesser-known Indigenous dialect. Such businesses tend to exist through word of mouth, which can be a hurdle when attracting new customers, but makes the eventual experience all the more special—if you can find it.
From annual Guelaguetza festivities to Día de los Muertos and colorful holiday displays, Oaxaca stands out as a tempting destination regardless of the time of year. It might take a little more effort to create an inclusive itinerary that uplifts local communities, but we promise it’s worth it. And thankfully, we’ve got tips from Santos and Vasquez to help you plan the ultimate trip.
Stay in homey accommodations
One of your best bets for a real cultural exchange is to stay with an Oaxacan family, or at the very least privately renting a true Oaxacan home. You’ll find plenty of shared and private accommodation options on Airbnb—the trick is to find the ones actually owned by locals.
Santos suggests, beyond perusing the pictures, to look at the host profile. “There, you can see if the listing is managed by a leasing agency, how many rentals they have, and often they’ll tell you a little bit about themselves,” she advises. “A lot of Oaxacans have started identifying themselves on their profiles, saying ‘rented by a local,’ ‘family-owned,’ ‘Indigenous,’ or ‘Familia Oaxaqueño.’ It takes an extra step, but that’s how you start to become more intentional about the way you travel.”
You can also stay at Santos’ family ranch in Tlacolula, which can accommodate up to eight guests and acts as the perfect gateway for exploring the town’s famous Sunday market.
Shop locally in markets and on guided tours
Vasquez’s number one travel recommendation for tourists heading to Oaxaca?
“Get outside of Oaxaca City,” he commands. “The city is beautiful, but if you want to learn about Oaxacan culture, go to different municipalities and communities where you can buy local textiles from local people.”
He suggests Tlacolula’s Sunday market or Teotitlan del Valle as starting points, but finding a trustworthy tour guide like Santos can also help ensure that textile artisans and gallery owners get a fair cut when selling their wares.
“Most guides and travel agencies are working in this hush-hush system of 30–50% commission,” Santos shares. “If you buy a rug, it may be 10,000 pesos, but half of that is going to the guide. For me, my priority is bringing income and tourism to different communities and small businesses. It’s why I don’t take a commission and why I’m committed to working only with Indigenous-owned businesses. In each community, I work with about five to seven businesses on a rotating basis.”
Santos offers an array of experiences based on travelers’ interests and that change depending
on the time of year—for example, she’s currently gearing up for Lanii Tu’Guul, a Zapotec celebration of the dead that overlaps with Día de los Muertos.
You may notice popular sites like Hierve el Agua missing from Santos’ tour options—that’s by design. While she’s beginning to explore options for visiting the famous petrified waterfall rock formation with mineral pools, she’s mindful of creating an itinerary that supports the two local Indigenous communities that call the landmark home and often have to work outside of the area in order to make ends meet. “I will be taking people there very slowly and only if they will email me with intention,” she clarifies.
If you do decide to venture out on your own, taking the extra step to be a responsible traveler can add up to a lot of support for the local community. For example, avoid haggling at the markets—even if you see locals engaging in the practice.
“A lot of people have this perception—not only in Oaxaca, but when they visit Mexico in general—that they get to ask for a discount just because they’re tourists,” Vasquez explains. “It’s important to remember: you are a guest on our lands. Paying the asking price is a way of respecting our cultures and the traditions that these families have preserved for generations and centuries.”
He continues, saying, “A lot of these business owners, they might not have the financial education that we do. They might see this business as their only resource to survive, pay expenses, and make a living. That’s where they get intimidated sometimes, where if someone asks for a discount, they’ll just agree because they know they need to sell their product and aren’t thinking in terms of profits and losses.”
Visit small towns and art enclaves
There are so many worthwhile landmarks to check off your Oaxaca agenda. Make a visit to the small village of San Martín Tilcajete to marvel at the paper-mache sculptures called alebrijes that you might remember coming alive in Disney’s Coco. Or Pluma Hidalgo is a mountain town known for its amazing coffee.
For arts, Centro de las Artes de San Agustín is a historic textile factory turned modern art museum. Check out Dixza Rugs and Native Farm to learn about the Zapotec’s millenary weaving tradition. And at Manos Que Ven, you’ll find handmade ceramics by blind artist José García Antonio and Teresita Mendoza.
For nature, head to Oaxaca City’s Ethnobotanical Garden to learn about the local flora and fauna. Or explore the Sierra Norte mountain range in Ixtlan de Juarez, which is full of nature hikes. You can also admire the oldest tree in Mexico at Santa María del Tule, which has a 2,000-year-old Montezuma cypress boasting the widest tree trunk in the world.
There are also the Monte Albàn ruins mentioned above, the impressive Mitla ruins that once served as an important religious site for the Mixtecs, and Yagul, an ancient Zapotec city that’s home to the state’s largest ceremonial ball game court, just outside of Tlacolula.
There are also, of course, Oaxacan beaches like surf capital Puerto Escondido and clothing-optional Zipolite, but exploring the coast is its own separate trip.
Eat goat barbacoa and yellow mole
From street food to markets to fancier sit-down restaurants, the food in Oaxaca is unparalleled. Start with the buzzing markets to get a real sense of the local scene. Like the famous Sunday one in Tlacolula, many Oaxacan villages designate one day a week for a massive, town-wide market offering food, drink, and handcrafted specialties.
On Wednesdays, Vasquez recommends a visit to the market in Etla, which is famous for its goat barbacoa. But if for whatever reason he can’t make that one, he’ll opt for getting the stewed meat at Tlacolula’s Sunday market. Ocotlán’s Friday market rivals Tlacolula in size and is a great place to try empanadas de amarillo, which are filled with chicken and a yellow mole sauce.
If you’re still craving meat, head to the Pasillo de Humo—which literally translates to hallway of smoke—in the 20 de Noviembre Mercado. There you’ll find an array of meats on sale from different vendors, which you can have smoked on-site and paired with accompaniments like tortillas, pickled veggies, salsas, and cilantro. Enjoy it with a beer or other beverage, while the sweet smells of charred chorizo, chicken, pork, and beef waft by your table.
There are also plenty of street-eating opportunities after the bars close. La Chinita is renowned for massive tlayudas smeared with pork drippings and bean paste, your protein of choice, and griddled with stringy quesillo. It opens around 7 pm and has a tight operation with a steady line u...

Yellen Says US Economy ‘resilient’ Amid Global Headwinds – 69News WFMZ-TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/yellen-says-us-economy-resilient-amid-global-headwinds-69news-wfmz-tv/
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen sought Wednesday to project confidence in the U.S. financial outlook while pledging vigilance in responding to “risks on the horizon.”
She is offering that message as global finance leaders gather in Washington to discuss the increasingly dismal view of the global economy.
“Our economy remains resilient in the face of global economic headwinds,” Yellen said at a meeting on the sidelines of this week’s annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and its sister lending agency, the World Bank.
Her remarks to the Bretton Woods Committee’s International Council crediting President Joe Biden’s domestic policies for contributing to U.S. economic strength came as administration officials try to talk up the president’s policies ahead of midterm elections. Those elections will decide the balance of power in Congress and statehouses across the nation. Democrats — with no margin for error — are fighting to retain control of the House and Senate.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has driven up food and energy prices globally — in some places exponentially, exposing vulnerabilities in the global food and energy supply. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, rising inflation and worsening climate conditions are also impacting world economies and exacerbating other crises, like high debt levels held by lower-income countries.
These risks prompted the IMF to lower projections for global economic growth in 2023, with world economic growth expected to be lower by $4 trillion through 2026.
The bleak projections come as central banks around the world raise interest rates in hopes of taming rising inflation. The U.S. Federal Reserve has been the most aggressive in using interest rate hikes as an inflation-cooling tool.
Vitor Gaspar, director of the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department said Wednesday that world leaders need to “be prepared for a shock-prone world.”
Yellen, a former U.S. Federal Reserve chair, said the Biden administration is “committed to working with our partners to build greater resilience, in America and globally, to the types of shocks we’ve seen.”
“We are highly attuned to the risks on the horizon,” Yellen said. “Many other major economies are facing high inflation as well. They must also continue implementing policies to rein that in.”
“Our path forward begins with the jobs we have to do at home,” she said.

Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Live By These Healthy Habits Eat This Not That
Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Live By These Healthy Habits – Eat This, Not That https://collincountynewsonline.com/ashton-kutcher-and-mila-kunis-live-by-these-healthy-habits-eat-this-not-that/
Real talk: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are couple goals in more ways than one. Kutcher is gearing up for the 2022 New York City Marathon and lost around 12 pounds while doing it, with a solid support system right by his side. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he reveals, “The biggest change physically has been the transfer of muscle mass from upper body to lower body. I’ve lost about 12 lbs. … my wife [Mila Kunis] has been super supportive” (via PEOPLE).
Overall, the couple’s lifestyle game is totally on point. If you didn’t already know, their gorgeous Beverly Hills modern farmhouse is complete with a sleek barbecue pavilion, a stunning pool, and a solar-powered farm that’s absolutely bursting with fresh vegetables, according to PEOPLE. After learning all about it, you’ll want to move in and put your green thumb to good use!
Growing your own vegetable garden is a total game-changer when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle, and Kutcher and Kunis clearly understand that. With fresh veggies conveniently located in your own backyard, you know exactly where the meals you consume came from. So if you’re curious about this celeb powerhouse couple’s “fully sustainable” farm and the healthy habits they live by, keep reading to learn more.

It all started with the couple’s strong, wholesome values and a dream. “Ashton and Mila are concerned about the quality of the soil, the purity of the food they eat and the water they drink. The ideals of sustainability and regenerative farming aren’t just abstract concepts to them,” says the couple’s architect, Howard Backen (via Architectural Digest).
Kunis shares in a cover story with C Magazine the couple’s excitement, saying, “We had this grand idea, and then we moved in four months before COVID hit,” adding, “We didn’t realize how incredible it was to have a fully sustainable house until the world shut down” (via PEOPLE). Talk about perfect timing!

Kutcher (44) and Kunis (39) are understandably proud of living healthy and waited five years for construction on their farm to finish. The stunning property is complete with apple trees and a bountiful veggie garden filled with lettuce, tomatoes, squash, and other sheer goodness (via PEOPLE).
And that’s not the only very cool thing about the couple’s digs. Wanting “a home, not an estate,” as Kunis puts it, their farm is totally solar-powered, and the wood used is apparently recycled from an old Wonder Bread factory!
Kutcher reveals to Architectural Digest, “We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant.” He also says of their abode, “To feel tranquility in a space, everything needs to be in order. If the world around you isn’t in order, it’s hard to get your brain in order. When we’re in our home, the world just makes sense.”

Being in charge of what you put into your body comes with a lot of responsibility. By tending to your own backyard garden—complete with fresh herbs, veggies, and fruits—you’re opening yourself up to a wealth of positive opportunities, specifically being the decision maker on what pesticides and fertilizers come into contact with the food you grow (via Harvard Health Publishing). Having fresh tomatoes, eggplant, lettuce, peppers, basil, and more readily available also makes it seamless to add healthy foods to your daily meals.
According to Dr. Helen Delichatsios, an internist at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital, we should all learn some planting skills. “Backyard gardening can inspire you to take an interest in the origins of your food and make better choices about what you put on your plate,” Dr. Delichatsios says, adding, “When you grow your own food, you savor it more because of the effort it took to get to the table.”
This celeb couple’s solar-powered home benefits their overall health and also the environment. Using natural energy protects our ecosystems and all living things!
Dubbing themselves “the Kukus,” the pair makes gardening fun family time, recruiting help from their daughter and son, Wyatt, 7; and Dmitri, 5. Kunis admits, “My husband’s from the Midwest, and a lot of this has to do with his upbringing. He’s like, we’re building a farm and we’re all going to work on the farm.” She adds, “I’m from L.A., and I was like, we are? This has been a big learning curve for all of us.”
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis teach their children to “understand the value of a tomato and how much work goes into growing it,” Kunis explains, adding, “Whether it’s learning something new, doing something a little bit scary—all of that makes you stronger” (via PEOPLE).

All of the talk these days in the NFL is the roughing the quarterback penalties. Apparently the NFL will address the issue in the offseason. In other words, don’t touch the quarterback for the remainder of the season. Especially if it’s Tom Brady!
Monday night’s questionable roughing the passer call in the Chiefs/Raiders game was a result of commentary from Troy Aikman. Aikman said, ““My hope is the competition committee looks at this at the next set of meetings, and we take the dresses off,” adding “I’m all for player safety, but the protection on the quarterbacks has gotten to a ridiculous level.” It was the “dresses” comment that set people off, calling it “sexist,” “misogynistic,” and “completely uncalled for.”
It’s week 6 in the NFL, time for our first version of which coach is on the hot seat
Matt Rhule of the Carolina Panthers was fired on Monday
Here’s a list of who could be next.
* Ron Rivera (Washington Commanders) – He’s 1-4 on the year, and 15-23 during his tenure with the team. He’s got to turn his defense around if he’s going to save his gig.
* Frank Reich (Indianapolis Colts) – In his fifth season with the team, he’s 2-2-1 and 39-30-1 overall. He’s been to the playoffs twice during his time in Indy, but expectations have still yet to be met. Getting control of Matt Ryan’s turnovers would be a big help.
* Kliff Klingsbury (Arizona Cardinals) – He’s in his fourth season and is 2-3 on the year and 26-27-1 overall. The “offensive genius” has shown “average” results on the field. Hopefully, the return of DeAndre Hopkins in Week 7 will help his cause.
* Lovie Smith (Houston Texans) – This is his first year with Houston, and he’s 1-3-1. He’s got a five-year deal, but ownership and fans are going to demand success sooner rather than later. He’s got his team playing hard, but heart doesn’t always equal wins.
* Kevin Stefanski (Cleveland Browns) – He’s 2-3 in his third season, and 21-17 overall. The QB roller coaster with team hasn’t been his fault, so ownership might wait a year to see how the whole Deshaun Watson deal plays out.
* Dan Campbell (Detroit Lions) – In his second season, he’s 1-4 and 4-17-1 overall. He was a hit on “Hard Knocks” and has an addictive and passionate personality. That said, Detroit has a reputation for futility that needs to be reversed, and another three-win season won’t cut it.
Lee Corso is not dead!
Corso has missed the last two weeks of the show due to an unexplained illness. The illness comes as no surprise to some viewers who were worried about Corso’s speech and appearance in the episodes he had previously appeared on.
With GameDay set to head to Knoxville for a showdown between No. 3 Alabama and No. 6 Tennessee on Saturday, fans got quite the scare on Monday night. Unfortunately, a nasty rumor surfaced on Twitter that Corso had passed away. And the news didn’t take long to spread like wildfire.

10 Marvel Comics Wakanda Forever Should Pull From CBR Comic Book Resources
10 Marvel Comics Wakanda Forever Should Pull From – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://collincountynewsonline.com/10-marvel-comics-wakanda-forever-should-pull-from-cbr-comic-book-resources/
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the most anticipated upcoming superhero film of the year. Since the sudden passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, who nailed the role as King T’Challa, fans have been curious if the second Black Panther film would be just as entertaining as the first one.
With T’Challa being the most prominent character to carry the Black Panther mantle, many Marvel Comicsand MCU fans may wonder how the story can go on without him. Thankfully, Marvel houses some amazing ongoing series and miniseries that the Wakanda Forever filmmakers can pull from to keep the Black Panther legacy alive while giving T’Challa a proper sendoff and introducing Namor and Atlantis to the MCU.
10/10 Shuri’s First Run As Black Panther
Black Panther Vol. 4 By Reginald Hudlin, Ken Lashley & J. Scott Campbell
Shuri was nominated by the queen, Storm, to take on the Black Panther mantle while T’Challa was in a coma recovering from Doctor Doom’s attack. The panther goddess Bast tells Shuri that she was not worthy of the powers. Regardless of Bast’s rejection, Shuri dons the Black Panther mantle anyway to protect Wakanda from Morlun.
While fans are not sure how T’Challa’s death will be handled in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, there are great expectations for Shuri to take on the Black Panther mantle. Doom may not make an appearance in the MCU just yet, but his attack on T’Challa can inspire the character’s death in the film.
9/10 Fantastic Four Shows Namor’s Hatred Of The Surface World
Fantastic Four #147-149 By Gerry Conway, Rich Buckler, Joe Sinnott & Linda Lessmann
The Fantastic Four has yet to make their MCU debut as a team but their connection to Namor could provide a great backstory for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After finding a nuclear device polluting the oceans, Namor decided that the surface world was the enemy because pollution was slowly destroying his home world. In retaliation, Namor used the sea monster Giganto to attack surface dwellers, but the Fantastic Four was able to defeat him.
If pollution is used to express Namor’s hatred for the surface world in Wakanda Forever, it would be a conflict that realistically motivates Namor’s rage. Also, it would be cool to see Namor attack Wakanda while on the back of a beastly sea monster.
8/10 Namor’s Attack On Wakanda
Avengers Vs. X-Men By Brian Michael Bendis, Jonathan Hickman, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Ed Brubaker & more.
Avengers vs. X-Men was one of the most exciting crossover events for Marvel Comics. In the series, Namor was one of the five members of the X-men who were possessed by the Phoenix Force. Under the influence of the Phoenix, Namor made his way to Wakanda and created a massive tidal wave, destroying almost all the nation.
Comic fans have been looking forward to Namor appearing in the MCU for a while now, and many are curious to see how he makes a splash in Wakanda Forever. With the Phoenix Force played out in the X-Men films, Namor’s attack on Wakanda will most likely take a different turn in the movie.
7/10 Shuri’s Retaliation Against Namor
New Avengers Vol. 3 #7 By Jonathan Hickman, Mike Deodato, Frank Martin Jr. & Rain Beredo
Following his relief from the Phoenix Force, Namor looks to T’Challa to make peace for their respective nations to move on. As fellow members of the Illuminati, T’Challa agreed to make peace with Namor but Queen Shuri refused to forgive him.
In response to Namor’s attack, Shuri initiated a virtual attack on Atlantis, leading to the death of a large population of Atlanteans. With the death of T’Challa and the possibility of a destroyed Atlantis, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will most-likely display some friction between Namor and Shuri, and this particular comic can be a great way to keep the hostility alive onscreen.
6/10 Riri Williams’s First Appearance As Ironheart
Invincible Iron Man Vol. 3 #7 By Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deadato Jr. & Frank Martin Jr.
Riri Williams will make her film debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With that in mind, it is going to be important for the film to point out how she became Ironheart. Riri created her own prototype of the Iron Man armor using stolen tech from M.I.T.
Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgamecan result in Riri Williams’s inspiration to create the armor. Whether Riri was blipped or survived Thanos’s tumultuous snap, she was inspired by Iron Man in someway and Wakanda Forever will have to pull from the comics to properly introduce Ironheart.
5/10 Riri Meeting Shuri and The Dora Milaje In Wakanda
Ironheart #9 By Eve Ewing, Geoffo, Matt Milla & Luciano Vecchio
Though fans were excited to learn that Riri Williams was going to make her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, there were some questions on how she even ended up in Africa. In the comics, Riri appeared in Wakanda and met Shuri. With the assistance of Okoye, they defeated shadow creatures.
MCU fans are still unsure on how Riri ends up in Wakanda, but there is a theory out there that suggests that she’s there to study Wakandan tech. Whether Riri’s travel to Wakanda is inspired by the comics or there is a new reason in the film, fans are excited to see the two young geniuses fighting side-by-side.
4/10 Introducing The Midnight Angels As The Dora Milaje’s Strongest Warriors
Doomwar By Jonathan Maberry, John Romita Jr., Scot George Eaton, Will Conrad, Dean White & Dennis Mallonee
Within the latest trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, fans pointed out that the Dora Milaje’s Aneka appears to wear the Midnight Angels. During Marvel Comics’ Doomwar event, T’Challa prepared a subgroup of the strongest Dora Milaje members to fight against Doctor Doom and his robotic army using specialized weapons aside from the usual Wakandan tech.
When fans saw actress Michaela Coel dressed in the Midnight Angels costume in her portrayal as the Dora Milaje’s Aneka, there were many posts about the appreciation of some of Dora Milaje’s greatest warriors from the comics. There may not be a war with Doom in the film, but the Dora Milaje are more than prepared to face-off with Atlanteans.
3/10 World Of Wakanda Could Explain Aneka’s Disappearance From The First Film
Black Panther: World Of Wakanda By Roxane Gay, Alitha Martinez & Rachelle Rosenberg
Aside from being assembled to fight Doom, there was another form of Midnight Angels in the comics. Initially, Aneka was the general of the Dora Milaje but was stripped of her position after killing an abusive chieftain from her village. With the help of her fellow Dora Milaje and lover Ayo, Aneka stole the Midnight Angels tech and formed a new version of the group to revolt against Wakanda.
In the first Black Panther film, Aneka was not introduced as a member of the Dora Milaje but Ayo was. It would make sense if the film explains how Aneka left Wakanda for a similar reason as she did in the comics and return to her homeland to help fight against the Atlanteans.
2/10 Fear Itself Could Inspire A Revelation To Namor
Fear Itself By Matt Fraction, Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger & Laura Martin
When word got out that Attuma would also be making his debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, fans were shocked to see the character working well alongside Namor. During the crossover event Fear Itself, Attuma was transformed into Nerkkod: Breaker of the Oceans by one of the seven hammers of the worthy and destroyed Namor’s kingdom.
It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if it turns out that Namor’s concern for Atlantis turns out to be an inside job led by Attuma in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Attuma’s character arc may be changed for the movies, but that doesn’t stop fans from expecting to see him face the Sub-Mariner in an attempt to usurp the Atlantean crown.
1/10 Shuri Comics Display Her Self-Identity
Shuri By Nnedi Okorafor, Leonardo Romero & Jordie Bellaire
Within the entire Shuri series, Shuri achieved self-discovery after being overwhelmed with suddenly becoming Black Panther after T’Challa’s disappearance. Eventually, Shuri realized that she was able to take up the Black Panther mantle while being true to herself and used the advanced gadgets she created to upgrade the suit.
Though Shuri may have taken on the Black Panther mantle for a short time before, her role in her self-titled comics is more compelling and dynamic. It would be awesome to see Shuri flying around with wings on her suit in the film, just as she does in her comic series.

As the Biden NSC postpones the United States-Gulf Coordination Council (U.S.-GCC) Working Group, Ernst writes to NSA Sullivan: “The U.S. should reliably implement defense efforts and proceed with the U.S.-GCC integrated air and missile defense working group without delay.”
WASHINGTON – Amid reports that all security cooperation and development with the Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes Saudi Arabia, and the United States may be cut off as punishment for the recent OPEC+ oil cuts, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), co-chair of the Senate Abraham Accords Caucus and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is urging the White House to continue to convene partners, reinforce security dialogue, and develop defense concepts to counter growing threats, like Iran, and other terror and violent extremists organizations that wish to do the U.S. and our Middle East partners harm.
In a letter to National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan, Ernst writes: “The United States must continue to convene partners, reinforce security dialogue, and develop defense concepts to counter these growing threats. Security cooperation, diplomatic engagement, commercial development, and cultural exchange between Israel and the Gulf states—bolstered by the historic Abraham Accords—continues to grow. Integrated air and missile defense in the region has been a consistent initiative by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), with bipartisan support … Our roadmap is clear: the United States must continue to engage regional partners to counter common threats.
“Disrupting this momentum delays partner capacity building, worsens regional security, and aids our adversaries. It also damages trust by conditioning regional security on resolution of broader political and energy disputes, a poor precedent. As the security partner of choice, the United States should reliably implement defense efforts and proceed with the U.S.-GCC integrated air and missile defense working group without delay.”
Ernst’s letter to Sullivan comes as the National Security Council is postponing the United States-Gulf Coordination Council Working Group meeting on integrated air and missile defense, previously scheduled for October 17.

Rite Aid has entered a sweeping technology partnership with Google Cloud designed to give the drugstore, pharmacy care and health services company a more flexible, data-driven and efficient platform for growth and operations.
Plans call for Google Cloud technologies to arm Philadelphia-based Rite Aid with sharper insights, more agility and enhances customer experiences, the companies said yesterday. Modernized applications for personalized digital experiences, too, will position Rite Aid’s over 6,400 pharmacists to spend more time interacting directly with patients.
Under the multiyear agreement, Rite Aid is slated to migrate key applications to Google Cloud’s Anthos managed platform for application deployment. Those applications will include Rite Aid’s vaccine scheduling tool, customer messaging infrastructure and digital engagement platform.
Google Cloud noted that Anthos with give Rite Aid pharmacies cloud computing capabilities on-site, enabling more resilient operations. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based tech giant said strategic business continuity will Rite Aid to continue to provide elevated care during natural disasters through robust patient information, advanced prescription management and the ability to offer recommendations without needing to be connected to centralized, legacy mainframe technology.
More specifically, Rite Aid said, the Google Cloud partnership will help the company “realize its vision of a modern pharmacy.”
“The power of pharmacies, and the important role pharmacists play in the health of their communities, greatly expanded during COVID. Realizing that potential means making strategic investments in technology that can truly help our customers and maximize the capabilities of our pharmacists,” according to Justin Mennen, executive vice president and chief digital and technology officer at Rite Aid. “Google Cloud’s solutions are uniquely positioned to run at each pharmacy location to allow our store teams to help our customers to achieve whole health for life.”
Rite Aid
In late 2020, Rite Aid unveiled its ‘pharmacy of the future’ concept that included an elevated role for pharmacists and stores offering a wider range of products and services to promote wellness.
What’s more, Rite Aid has enlisted Google Cloud to drive digital transformations across other parts of its business. Those efforts include the following:
• Enterprise data migration: Rite Aid will shift its enterprise data to Google Cloud using BigQuery. With the move, its pharmacies stand to have better insights into its finances, supply chain inventory and customer information, enabling data-driven decisions for business operations.
• Enhanced search: Google Cloud’s Retail Search solution will give Rite Aid customers more precise search results when shopping on Rite Aid’s e-commerce site and mobile app. The improved search experience leverages Google-quality search models to understand customer intent and taps Rite Aid’s first-party data — such as promotions, available inventory and price — for product ranking results.
• Updated PBM application suite: Elixir, Rite Aid’s pharmacy benefit management and services unit, will update its current PBM application suite to a cloud-first experience, with artificial intelligence and machine learning-infused business logic capabilities. New Google Cloud data analytics and processing capabilities will help the PBM better manage prescription benefits for health insurers, the companies said.
“As a health care company with a retail footprint, Rite Aid is at the intersection of two quickly evolving industries and making strategic technology investments to meet rising customer expectations,” Carrie Tharp, vice president of retail and consumer solutions for Google Cloud, said in a statement. “Through these innovations, Rite Aid is defining the modern pharmacy.”
The nation’s third-largest drugstore chain, Rite Aid totaled fiscal 2022 revenue of $24.57 billion. That included about $17.37 billion in its Retail Pharmacy business unit (front-end sales of $5.22 billion and pharmacy sales of $12.15 billion) plus roughly $7.2 billion in sales from its Pharmacy Services unit.
Rite Aid follows a range of companies in the food, drug and mass channel partnering with cloud and IT services giants in recent years. Companies teaming up with Google include C&S Wholesale Grocers, Albertsons Cos., Hy-Vee and The Kroger Co., among other. Food, drug and mass retailers partnering with cloud and tech services rival Microsoft include Loblaw Cos., Kroger, Albertsons, Walmart, Costco Wholesale, Walgreens Boots Alliance and Giant Eagle. Amazon Inc.’s Amazon Web Services (AWS) subsidiary also has brought food and grocery players into a cloud-based computing architecture, including Instacart, Ocado, Sainsbury, HelloFresh and, of course, Amazon.com and Amazon Fresh.
Alex Jones Must Pay Sandy Hook Families Nearly $1 Billion For Hoax Claims Jury Says Reuters.com
Alex Jones Must Pay Sandy Hook Families Nearly $1 Billion For Hoax Claims, Jury Says – Reuters.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/alex-jones-must-pay-sandy-hook-families-nearly-1-billion-for-hoax-claims-jury-says-reuters-com/
Oct 12 (Reuters) – Right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones must pay at least $965 million in damages to numerous families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook mass shooting for falsely claiming they were actors who faked the tragedy, a Connecticut jury said on Wednesday.
The verdict, which came after three weeks of testimony in a state court in Waterbury, Connecticut, far outstripped the $49 million Jones was ordered to pay in August by a Texas jury in a similar case brought by two other Sandy Hook parents.
The Connecticut verdict applies to both Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems LLC, the owner of Jones’ Infowars website. FSS filed for bankruptcy in July.

The plaintiffs in the Connecticut case included more than a dozen relatives of 20 children and six staff members who were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012. Jones claimed for years that the massacre was staged as part of a government plot to take away Americans’ guns.
Jurors said the plaintiffs should also be awarded attorney’s fees, which are set to be determined in November.
During a live broadcast as the verdict was read, Jones vowed to appeal and said his company’s ongoing bankruptcy will protect Infowars in the meantime.
“We’re fighting Goliath,” he said.
Jones’ lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Christopher Mattei, a lawyer for the families, said outside the courthouse that the verdict was “against Alex Jones, his lies and their poisonous spread, and a verdict for truth and for our common humanity.”
Outside the courthouse, Robbie Parker, one of the plaintiffs in the case, thanked the jury for its verdict. “Everybody who took the stand told the truth,” Parker said. “Except for one. The one who proclaims that that’s what he does. But while the truth was being said in the courtroom, he was standing right here, lying.”
Jones was found liable in a default judgment last year after he failed to comply with court orders.
During closing arguments last week, Mattei said Jones cashed in for years on lies about the shooting, which drove traffic to his Infowars website and boosted sales of its various products.
Infowars’ finances are not public, but according to trial testimony the site brought in revenue of $165 million between 2016 and 2018. An economist in the Texas case estimated that Jones is personally worth between $135 million and $270 million.

The families suffered a decade-long campaign of harassment and death threats by Jones’ followers, Mattei said.
“Every single one of these families (was) drowning in grief, and Alex Jones put his foot right on top of them,” Mattei told jurors.
ANGUISHED TESTIMONY
Jones’ lawyer countered during closing arguments that the plaintiffs had shown scant evidence of quantifiable losses. The attorney, Norman Pattis, urged jurors to ignore the political undercurrents in the case.
“This is not a case about politics,” Pattis said. “It’s about how much to compensate the plaintiffs.”
Douglas E. Mirell, a lawyer and defamation expert who was not involved in the case, said the sizable verdict sent a clear message of “revulsion” from the jury.
“His refusal to own up to the mendacity and lies that he promulgated time and time again over many years has now caught up with him,” Mirell said of Jones.
The trial was marked by weeks of anguished testimony from the families, who filled the gallery each day and took turns recounting how Jones’ lies about Sandy Hook compounded their grief. An FBI agent who responded to the shooting was also a plaintiff in the case.
Jones, who has since acknowledged that the shooting occurred, also testified and briefly threw the trial into chaos as he railed against his “liberal” critics and refused to apologize to the families.
In August, another jury found that Jones and his company must pay $49.3 million to Sandy Hook parents in a similar case in Austin, Texas, where the headquarters of Jones’ Infowars conspiracy theory website is located.
Jones’ lawyers have said they hope to void most of the payout in the Texas case before it is approved by a judge, calling it excessive under state law.
Connecticut does not place caps on damages, though Jones could appeal the verdict on other legal grounds.
Mattei said the families would go to any court necessary to enforce the verdict “for as long as it takes, because that’s what justice requires.”

An Inside Look At Playing Golf At PGA Frisco Local Profile
An Inside Look At Playing Golf At PGA Frisco – Local Profile https://collincountynewsonline.com/an-inside-look-at-playing-golf-at-pga-frisco-local-profile/
North Texas has plenty of golf courses — more than 300 depending on how big you want to draw the circle on our golf-rich area. There are 26 in Collin Country alone.
But the coming public golf earthquake in North Frisco should change the game forever for both golfers, would-be golfers, curious non-golfers or those who just want to check out the latest entertainment hot spot.
Omni PGA Frisco, Fields Ranch East and West on 660 acres of former North Texas farmland in far North Frisco will be a game changer for golf, sports and entertainment. Located at the new, modern PGA of America headquarters, the courses are owned by Dallas-based Omni Hotels, which will have a massive 550-room resort here and the PGA (Professional golfers of America) of America will oversee golf operations on city of Frisco land.
Pga frisco’s green | photo courtesy of pga
Almost every spare inch of this new North Texas golfing utopia will be open to the public from the huge, Texas-sized putting green (the Dance Floor) to the 10-hole short course (The Swing) to the resort and two courses, The East designed by Gil Hanse and The West, a Beau Welling design. Heck, even the Northern Texas PGA will have an awesome synthetic putting and chipping complex here open to the public when not in use for NTPGA activities.
Add nearly a dozen public eating, drinking and shopping establishments, the PGA District, all overseen by a huge electronic TV screen, plus a three-mile walk/bike/pet trail and you’ve got a golfing paradise no matter if you’re a thoroughly hooked hacker, a casual golfer or just somebody who wants in on the non-stop action. In the final construction phase, everything should be open in spring 2023.
“We were always going to make everything public here because that fits into the PGA of America’s mission of attracting golfers and non-golfers to the sport,” says PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh.
The east course, which will host 26 major golf championships starting with the PGA Seniors Championship in May, two future PGA Championships and likely a Ryder Cup include a drivable par 4 on both the front (No. 7) and back nine (15). Is walkable with caddies.
There is a nearly 300-yard par 3, (No. 13 from the championship tees) along with the largest green on the course followed by the smallest, just to confuse golfers’ already confused minds. Then a bunkerless par 4 16th hole which seems simple, but is anything but!
Then, for the closing act, there is a dangerous 17th hole par 3, at 141 yards, the shortest on the course, plus a par 5 18th hole with a large stream and a hard dogleg right plus a 10-foot earthen wall you’ll to hit over to reach the final green after crossing Panther Creek for the final time.
The west course by Welling, who did Bluejack National with Tiger Woods outside Houston, did the more player friendly with lots of wide open North Texas prairie spaces, elevated views and some truly funky, rolling greens.
It’s a course to be ridden for sure, but one to take in the scenery with risk and reward challenges. Welling said the two courses are not identical sisters but in the same family.
While the public will make up more than 80% of the rounds on the Hanse East course, he designed the course to be player-friendly, but certainly not pain-free if you don’t hit the correct shot from the correct tee.
The course can easily play more than 7,800 yards from the back tees, but PGA officials said the length will rarely, if ever, be used on a daily basis.
But playing the correct set of tees will be critical to resort player enjoyment for the triple-figure rates which will be charged to Omni Hotel guests and general public play. Frisco residents will pay considerably less.
The opening hole on the east course is a par 5 with a dogleg right, which features some thick rough and the first appearance of native Panther Creek.
A less-than-optimal shot could mean the first lost ball early despite the best effort of the caddies. If fact, when Woods opened his private Bluejack National course three hours southeast of here, he said he hoped most players could play his course with a single ball.
If an amateur plays PGA Frisco East with a single ball, they might be drug tested or sent straight up to the PGA Tour.
Holes 10-12, all par 4, play in full view of the huge Omni Resort, making them prime spots for tournament watching, but players of all skill levels will have their full attention captured when they get to the par 3 13th hole.
Panther Creek cuts across the fairway and curls up the left side, but it will be one of the most attractive features on the backside. The par 4 15th is another uphill drivable par 4 which is surrounded by bunkers to embrace the risk-reward factor.
Public golf and green grass entertainment will never be the same in North Texas again.

How To Cope With The Stress Of IVF | SBM Society Of Behavioral Medicine
How To Cope With The Stress Of IVF | SBM – Society Of Behavioral Medicine https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-to-cope-with-the-stress-of-ivf-sbm-society-of-behavioral-medicine/
Joanna Buscemi, PhD, Depaul University
If you are about to embark on an in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey, you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed. The process is fraught with stressors, including concerns about cost, the IVF process itself, and whether the procedure will be successful – all while continuing to manage day-to-day obligations. Your decision to pursue IVF may also follow significant medical and pregnancy loss trauma and/or years of infertility. Coping with that trauma while beginning an intensive medical treatment with an uncertain outcome is a lot to manage.
While stress is an inevitable part of IVF, there are strategies available to help support you along the way. Here is a non-comprehensive list of tips to help you better cope with the stress of IVF:
Take it one step at a time. The IVF process is overwhelming. It starts with lots of baseline appointments, discussions about insurance coverage, and treatment decisions to be made before beginning a cycle. This is followed by numerous medications that you may not understand how to use showing up at your door, each requiring different preparation.Unless you are a medical professional yourself, mixing medications or loading up syringes will likely be a new task, and this can be difficult to learn while you are managing the myriad of emotions associated with fertility treatment. It is important to try to complete the checklist one item at a time rather than allowing yourself to become overwhelmed by the number of steps required from start to finish.
Prioritize self-care. Most of the time, normal life continues during your IVF cycle, and it can be difficult to manage what is required for IVF along with other stressors. While research that stress doesn’t have a notable effect on IVF success, your well-being is reason enough to prioritize self-care. It is extra important to make space to be kind to yourself when you can before, during, and after the IVF cycle. What activities do you love to do? What brings you joy? What activities make you feel loved and cared for? Prioritize time for these activities as possible.
Practice distress tolerance. The uncertainty of IVF at each stage makes it difficult to feel at ease. There are techniques that can help you accept discomfort associated with loss of control and unpredictability. While it can be difficult to sit with the distress, it is an important practice that may translate to better overall distress tolerance skills in the future. You can find specific strategies for distress tolerance here.
Find your best 1-2 social supports, preferably other people who understand the stress of IVF. IVF is personal and can feel like a lonely journey. It may be helpful to build a small but reliable and helpful network of people who have gone through the IVF process themselves. While their treatment protocols and experiences may differ from yours, having a couple of people who are willing to listen to how you are feeling or share their perspective can be really helpful.
Find a therapist who provides evidence-based care for people with fertility struggles. Therapists who specialize in infertility and/or pregnancy loss and fertility treatment are hard to come by but are the absolute best experts to help you on your fertility journey. If you cannot find someone who specializes in infertility and/or pregnancy loss, it is important to find someone who has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and evidence-based interventions for trauma. Consider asking your fertility doctor for referrals.
Be cautious of social media IVF groups. It can be tempting to join social media groups to seek support. Sometimes these groups can be helpful. In other cases, they fuel anxieties with pregnancy announcements or stories of failed transfers. They can also be a source of fertility related misinformation. As an example, some IVF groups insist that eating a pineapple core or drinking pomegranate juice will increase your odds of successful embryo transfer. While neither of those behaviors will hurt you, it’s highly unlikely to impact your odds of success, at all. These groups sometimes lead to social comparisons that are not always helpful. Each treatment plan is unique, and outcomes vary drastically. Become aware of how you feel while engaging with these posts, then decide whether they are helpful or harmful.
Remember that stress does not affect IVF or pregnancy outcomes. Navigating the IVF process is stressful enough. Worrying that your stress is going to lead to a failed IVF cycle or harm your pregnancy only exacerbates overall distress. While using coping strategies to manage stress is a good idea, worrying about your stress levels is not. If you are experiencing stress, show yourself some compassion and remind yourself that this is difficult. It’s ok to feel the weight of that difficulty as you move through the process.

Missouri Will Try Again For Sports Betting In 2023 But Isnt Worried About Kansas Gaming Today
Missouri Will Try Again For Sports Betting In 2023 – But Isn’t Worried About Kansas – Gaming Today https://collincountynewsonline.com/missouri-will-try-again-for-sports-betting-in-2023-but-isnt-worried-about-kansas-gaming-today/
Missouri state lawmaker Dan Houx doesn’t see the Kansas City Chiefs leaving Missouri. He’s even more confident they won’t leave Missouri for Kansas.
Kansas launched retail and online sports betting through state-operated casinos on Sept. 1 under legislation passed last May. That law puts a 10 percent tax on operator revenue, with the majority of state revenue going into an “Attracting Professional Sports to Kansas Fund” – with the Chiefs considered a clear target.
In neighboring Missouri, sports betting has yet to be legalized. But Houx doesn’t see Kansas as much of a threat to become a real relocation destination for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
“I don’t see that happening,” Houx told Gaming Today on Tuesday. “What they did in their (legislation) is the revenue goes to entice a team to come to Kansas (but) their revenues are extremely low. Say their sportsbook’s bringing in $10 million a year – it’s going to take a long time to get to $1 billion for a new stadium.”
According to Houx, Missouri is Chiefs’ territory. He estimates at least 75 percent of Missourians are Chiefs fans. When asked about whispers of a move to Kansas, Houx didn’t mince words.
“If you want to see a real border war, if the Chiefs packed up and went to Kansas, it would be something else. I think you would see memorabilia burnt in the streets, so to speak,” he told Gaming Today.
“We’re a great state and we love our football,” said the Warrensburg Republican. “It’s the whole Midwest you’ve got to think about – from Iowa to Nebraska, to Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas – the Chiefs are central to it all.”
KC Chiefs, Other Teams Want Legal Missouri Sports Betting
A new, or even renovated stadium is definitely on the Chiefs’ wish list. But that’s only part of what the franchise wants.
The Chiefs also want legal sports betting in Missouri.
Last spring, the team and other pro sports franchises in the state – including the Royals – worked with Houx and other lawmakers to bring legal options to the state. If the bill had passed, legal sports betting (via licensed online apps tied to the stadiums and casinos) would have launched earlier this year. Casinos would also have been allowed in-person sportsbooks.
“If you want to see a real border war, if the Chiefs packed up and went to Kansas, it would be something else.” — Lawmaker Dan Houx
It didn’t happen. The bill was instead derailed in May after lawmakers disagreed on an amendment that would have legalized up to 5,000 video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in the state.
In another attempt, Houx tried again to pass the bill last month during a special tax session in Jefferson City. That proposal would have bumped the tax rate up to 10 percent from 8 percent in the bill last spring, but otherwise would have been the same. Unfortunately, the bill didn’t advance.
What’s Next for Missouri Sports Betting?
Houx expects much better results when he files a similar bill during the Missouri 2023 regular session starting Jan. 4. The tax rate is likely to be much higher in the next bill, he said (between 15 and 17 percent), but would still give pro teams and casinos online sportsbooks and casinos a retail option.
At 17 percent, Missouri state revenues would be nearly double the $13-$15 million annual tax revenue that would have been generated by the proposal last spring.
“We had a hearing on the bill during the special session and (one legislator) said the number one thing she’s hearing from door-knocking is ‘why don’t we have sports betting?’” said Houx.
“People want it. The legislature wants it. It’s going to be a top priority – I’d say in the top 5 – in January.”
Expansion Could Be in the Cards for Chiefs
The Chiefs haven’t said for sure that they even want to leave Missouri. And Houx’s prediction of a long slog to get Kansas to $1 billion might be accurate. Revenue reported by KSNT-TV on Monday shows Kansas sports betting revenue totaled $1.3 million in its first month of operation.
The state’s share of that is about $130,000.
Additionally, the Chiefs have good options for growth in Missouri, said Houx. One includes a possible expansion at the Truman Sports Complex, should the KC Royals follow through with plans to eventually move to downtown Kansas City.
The Chiefs are tied to a lease at Arrowhead Field through 2031, giving the franchise and the state time to formulate an expansion plan. Chiefs CEO and Chairman Clark Hunt said a renovation of Arrowhead is a possibility in a press conference last November:
“We think that GEHA Field at Arrowhead is still one of the finest stadiums in the National Football League,” said Hunt. “Obviously, things change, and the way fans want to consume the game, and the kind of spaces that you need … those things change over time and we’re paying attention to that.
“There will be things, when we get to the end of our lease here in nine or so years, I’m sure, that we’ll want to incorporate into the stadium. One possibility will be another renovation of Arrowhead.”

Having been born into the salmon restoration movement, Pom, a Native American tribe leader in Northern California, is staking out how to use blockchain to revive the native species of Chinook salmon his community once relied on.
To do so, Pom and his team created a video game called Salmon Journeys on Decentraland, where users can catch Chinook salmon to win an exclusive non-fungible token (NFT) by Sawalmen, a Web3 entity that represents Indigenous spiritual values and raises funds for restoration efforts and the landback movement.
Pom’s goal with this game is to raise funds as well as awareness for actual salmon restoration efforts, he said. The game is part of an ongoing hackathon event, tied to CoinDesk’s I.D.E.A.S. conference.
“Since the Shasta Dam was built 75 years ago, the salmon have been unable to return to their home waters in our ancestral watershed near Mt. Shasta, California,” Pom said. He added he’s in discussions with Maori tribes in New Zealand to bring to California a related genetic descendant of the Chinook.
Pom, who also goes by his English name Michael Preston, wants the team’s NFTs to reflect the ecological situation in Northern California and to get the message out about the importance of salmon restoration. He’s not the only one focused on repairing the waterways, but said other salmon pilot projects on the McCloud River have faced a lack of funding.
Crypto is his way of bootstrapping efforts.
Pom first had the idea to combine blockchain with salmon restoration in March 2020. He wrote a rough draft of a white paper, which Pom calls a “Redpaper,” and earlier this year attended Web3athon, a crypto hackathon presented by CoinDesk and Crypto Research and Design Lab.
The Web3athon has helped Pom and his team get their project off the ground and into the spaces where they hope to gain more support and funding for Salmon Journey’s full buildout.
Through the Web3athon Discord channel he met teammate Ayush Arora, a software engineer based in India, who is integral in making the Decentraland video game.
“It was hard at first for me. I’m like, wow, how are we going to do this?” Pom said. In Pom’s eyes, the game is a great way to reach younger generations who have the power to make a great impact in salmon restoration efforts.
“The goal is to have this game tell our story in as many metaverses as possible so that people will hear about our efforts, have fun playing a cool game, win and gain value back for themselves, and support actual salmon returns to the McCloud River,” Pom said.
As a candidate in the Web3athon, Pom thinks he has a pretty solid minimum-viable product and a good chance of becoming the winner.
“We are persistent and we believe in what we’re doing. We’re just gonna do this, whether or not we’re part of the hackathon.” Pom said.

Dogecoin Price Prediction As Elon Musk Launches Fragrance Accepting DOGE Payments – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/dogecoin-price-prediction-as-elon-musk-launches-fragrance-accepting-doge-payments-cryptonews/

Elon Musk, the billionaire industrialist and Dogecoin enthusiast, has launched a new fragrance that can be purchased using Dogecoin.
Can this be the catalyst for DOGE’s jump, especially with the market’s bear run?
DOGE Price Movement
DOGE, one of the best meme coins, has been bearish for the past few days. The digital asset currently trades at $0.06045. Although DOGE has pumped by 0.38% in the past 24 hours, its weekly price peg indicates a downtrend of 7%.
DOGE’s technicals show that the crypto asset currently trades above all of its short-term moving average (MA) indicators; however, its 100-day and 200-day MAs ($0.06070 and $0.0609) are above its current price.
With a positive moving average convergence divergence (MACD), DOGE indicates a buy signal. In addition, the crypto asset’s relative strength index (RSI) of 58.11 reveals that it’s not massively overbought.

Elon Musk’s New Fragrance Accepts DOGE
The biggest news for DOGE seems to be the recent launch of Burnt Hair, a fresh fragrance launched by Elon Musk.
Musk shared the fragrance’s first look in the early hours of Wednesday. The billionaire included a purchase link hosted by The Boring Company, his tunnel construction project.
Each bottle of Burnt Hair costs $100, and Musk confirmed that DOGE payments are accepted for the cologne. Just a few hours after announcing it, Musk confirmed that 10,000 bottles of Burnt Hair had been sold. However, the billionaire has yet to confirm how many bottles were bought using DOGE.
Burnt Hair is the second recent notable DOGE-related development coming from Musk.
DOGE’s Twitter Takeover
Last week, Musk’s lawyers filed to complete his $44 billion takeover of Twitter, possibly bringing an end to a back-and-forth that has gone on for months between both parties.
According to phone transcripts, the billionaire proposed that users pay a small fee in DOGE whenever they want to tweet or retweet something. It is still unclear whether this will be possible, but there is growing confidence that Musk will include a role for DOGE to play as he takes over Twitter and reshapes the social networking giant.
Google Cloud Integrates DOGE
Another bullish news for DOGE is Google’s partnership with notable crypto exchange Coinbase. According to reports, the internet conglomerate has partnered with Coinbase to accept crypto payments for its Google Cloud service.
At its Cloud Next conference, Google Cloud Vice President and General Manager Amit Zavery explained that Google would start accepting crypto payments from a “handful” of customers through its integration with Coinbase Commerce, a payment tool for businesses. Coinbase Commerce currently accepts payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), DOGE, and Tether (USDT).
Although the terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed, Jim Migdal, Vice President of business development at Coinbase, reportedly announced that the deal would follow other arrangements with Coinbase Commerce. The exchange will likely receive a cut of every transaction that goes through the system.
Conclusion
Dogecoin is an interesting asset for prospective investors in the crypto space. However, investors looking to make a meaningful change can consider IMPT, the native token for Impact Protocol.
Impact Protocol intends to use blockchain to fight climate change by allowing users to purchase carbon credits. Its IMPT token presale is currently one of the best crypto presales, already raising $3 million. Investors can buy IMPT tokens on the website.

U.S. May Block Russian Aluminum Imports -Source Reuters.com
U.S. May Block Russian Aluminum Imports -Source – Reuters.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/u-s-may-block-russian-aluminum-imports-source-reuters-com/
WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) – The Biden administration is weighing restricting imports of Russian aluminum as it charts possible responses to Moscow’s military escalation in Ukraine, a person briefed on the conversations told Reuters.
Such a move, which has not been finalized, would likely boost global prices for the metal used in a wide range of consumer products and could reverse a previous White House stance that such sanctions could wreak havoc on global markets.
“We’re always considering all options,” said a White House official. “There is no movement on this as of now.”

The Treasury and Commerce departments did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.
The administration’s choices include an outright ban, raising tariffs to levels so punitive they would constitute an effective ban, or sanctioning United Co Rusal International PJSC, the company also known as Rusal that produces Russia’s metal, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the conversations about an aluminum ban earlier on Wednesday.
Rusal (RUAL.MM), the world’s largest aluminum producer outside China, did not immediately reply to a Reuters’ request for comment.
Russian attacks using more than 100 missiles have killed at least 26 people across Ukraine since Monday, when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered what he called retaliatory strikes against Ukraine for an explosion on a bridge.
“It’s brutal, it’s beyond the pale,” President Joe Biden said on Wednesday, a day after he pledged ongoing assistance to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Shares of U.S.-based aluminum producer Alcoa Corp (AA.N) were last trading up 5.1% in New York, following the report. Shares of Rio Tinto Plc (RIO.L), which produces aluminum as well as iron ore, copper and other metals, fell about 1% on Wednesday in London.

NASA looks to launch Artemis test flight again on Nov. 14
NASA is targeting Nov. 14 for its next attempt to launch Artemis I, the space agency said on Wednesday, after technical difficulties and bad weather forced it to delay the first uncrewed test flight of a capsule to carry humans back to the moon. Arizona cryonics facility preserves bodies to revive later
Time and death are “on pause” for some people in Scottsdale, Arizona. Inside tanks filled with liquid nitrogen are the bodies and heads of 199 humans who opted to be cryopreserved in hopes of being revived in the future when science has advanced beyond what it is capable of today. Many of the “patients,” as Alcor Life Extension Foundation calls them, were terminally ill with cancer, ALS or other diseases with no present-day cure.
Asteroid’s path altered in NASA’s first test of planetary defense system
The spacecraft NASA deliberately crashed into an asteroid last month succeeded in nudging the rocky moonlet from its natural path into a faster orbit, marking the first time humanity has altered the motion of a celestial body, the U.S. space agency announced on Tuesday. The $330 million proof-of-concept mission, which was seven years in development, also represented the world’s first test of a planetary defense system designed to prevent a potential doomsday meteorite collision with Earth.

How You Can Get Paid To Visit A Part Of Italy By Train – Vancouver Is Awesome https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-you-can-get-paid-to-visit-a-part-of-italy-by-train-vancouver-is-awesome/
One area is also known as the ‘little Venice’ of Italy.
Italy is a bucket list destination for many Canadian travellers — but they typically don’t enjoy fighting crowds or forking out big bucks to stay in accommodations in its most popular cities.
While tourist meccas like Rome, Florence, and Venice are typically more expensive, thrifty tourists can save even more money by visiting a less frequented region of the country.
Located in northeastern Italy, the picturesque Friuli Venezia Giulia borders Austria, Slovenia, and the Adriatic Sea. A part of the region is known as the “little Venice” of Italy because of its canals, while other areas are coveted for their breathtaking alpine vistas.
The local Italian tourism board, PromoTurismoFVG, will reimburse travellers for the cost of transportation from anywhere in the country to the region until May 31, 2023, as part of an initiative to drive sustainable travel.
Visitors must book a package holiday that includes the train ticket as well as an overnight stay in any of the following cities and towns: Grado, Lignano Sabbiadoro, Udine or Trieste.
How to book the Italy experience
Travellers may only book their vacation through a travel agency called Travel One Tour Operator to take advantage of the promotion.
Tickets must arrive and/or depart from the following railway stations: Latisana-Lignano-Bibione, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, Trieste Airport, or Trieste Centrale, Udine station.
The promotional package also includes the FVGcard: a card that offers discounts and free admission to many attractions, including guided tours and free access to museums, castles, and churches.
The FVGcard is also the Passport of the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori (The Route of Wine and Flavours), which includes three free tastings with two glasses of wine.
There are several round-trip tickets available from Vancouver to Venice for just over $900 CAD including all taxes and fees. However, you may want to start your European adventure elsewhere. Keep in mind that plane tickets within Europe are inexpensive, so if you fly into another city, such as Amsterdam, you can also take a cheap flight or a train ride to Italy.

Time To Get Your Mammogram Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center
Time To Get Your Mammogram – Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center https://collincountynewsonline.com/time-to-get-your-mammogram-roswell-park-comprehensive-cancer-center/
The colors of fall aren’t just orange, red, brown and gold; pink is prominent in October as we acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
To underscore the importance of education about breast cancer risks, and why mammograms are crucial for early detection of breast cancer, representatives from the Office of Community Outreach & Engagement from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center are out in the community all year.
“We have one of the highest mortality rates in New York State when it comes to breast cancer in African American women,” says Beverly Johnson, a health referral specialist at Roswell Park. We find Black and Brown women are being diagnosed at earlier ages.” They’re also more likely to be diagnosed with a more aggressive type of breast cancer and for their cancer to be found at a more advanced state.”
Breast cancer rates for all women are higher in Western New York than anywhere else in New York State and higher than the national average; the mortality rate from breast cancer is also higher in Western New York than the state or national average. White women have a slightly higher rate of being diagnosed with breast cancer compared to Black and Hispanic/Latinx women, but Black women have a higher mortality rate (29.5 out of 100,000 women) than white women (19.9 per 100,000) or Hispanic/Latinx (10.2 per 100,000).
The importance of education
Johnson has been working in patient education on Roswell Park’s behalf for more than 10 years now, starting out as a volunteer with the Witness Project, a community outreach effort specifically designed to provide cancer information to minority communities. She joined the staff at Roswell Park almost 10 years ago and now serves as an educator on breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer in addition to tobacco treatment and smoking cessation efforts.
“I go out and try to educate and navigate women to come to Roswell Park for mammograms. Breast cancer is the main topic. I give presentations at churches and community centers; I go door-to-door, I go to events. I like talking to people and helping them.”
She’s also happy to take questions from people privately, both during these outings and in her off-hours. “Sometimes people come up and ask me questions that they don’t want to say to the crowd. They’ll say they’ve found a lump and don’t know what to do. I also show them how to do breast self-exams and we talk about the importance of knowing their family history.”
A person with a family history of cancer is generally at a higher risk for developing it themselves, but not everyone knows their family history and, in the past, it was taboo to talk about someone’s cancer diagnosis, she says. Unfortunately, men might not realize they, too, can develop breast cancer, but Johnson says she has one male breast cancer survivor who will sometimes accompany her to talk with groups.
Through her efforts, Johnson is helping to make sure people understand the importance of their family history when it comes to knowing their risk of developing cancer, including breast and prostate cancers. A subject that once was taboo or not considered “nice” to talk about can help save lives if discussed openly and without fear.
Schedule your mammogram today
It matters where you get your mammogram. Appointments for screenings are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours available upon request. Call 1-800-767-9355 or schedule online — no prescription or referral is needed.

Reaching into the community to provide health information
Roswell Park has resumed outreach efforts in community centers, churches and other in-person gatherings, conducting about 10 meetings a month, a number that doubles during October to increase awareness about breast cancer and mammograms, says Nikia Clark, Senior Community Outreach and Engagement Manager for Roswell Park. “We’re handing out information and having conversations with people about a number of different topics. We like to assess their knowledge base about what they know about a certain cancer and then give them more information, and if they’re eligible for screening, we’ll help them navigate that process.”
Last year, Roswell Park performed close to 8,500 mammograms, a total that the hospital seeks to expand every year. In total 11% of the mammograms conducted at Roswell Park were for Black or Hispanic/Latinx women. More than 100 community outreach and screening events for breast cancer were hosted by Roswell Park last year, with 40% of participants identifying as Black or Hispanic/Latinx.
Clark adds that it’s important for people to do all that they can to lower their cancer risk.
“Getting screened and lowering obesity rates and smoking rates are where we need to start. I know that this is much easier said than done, so we have educational programs focused on healthy living and services like patient navigation available at Roswell Park to help you.”
