Techwave Announces ‘STEPtember,’ An Awareness Campaign To Support Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation – GlobeNewswire https://collincountynewsonline.com/techwave-announces-steptember-an-awareness-campaign-to-support-cerebral-palsy-alliance-research-foundation-globenewswire/ HOUSTON, Oct. 19, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Techwave, a leading global IT and engineering solutions provider, shares its latest fundraising initiative, the “STEPtember, Health & Fitness Challenge.” The campaign is being launched in collaboration with the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation to raise awareness and funds for families affected by cerebral palsy. The funds raised by the STEPtember challenge will be used by the best CPARF researchers to prevent, treat, and cure cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a physical disability caused by damage to the developing brain during pregnancy, birth, or shortly after birth, which affects a person’s posture and movement throughout their life. Techwave’s “STEPtember” challenge is the key initiative to raise awareness about cerebral palsy among employees and entice them to lead a healthy lifestyle. Signing up for STEPtember and committing to 10,000 steps per day is the initial step. Tracking the steps with a digital pedometer or an app would follow. A total of 10,000 steps were taken every day during the “STEPtember” challenge by the employees for 28 consecutive days. By participating in this, we raised more than $2,000 and took more than 10 million steps for the CPARF cause. “STEPtember is a virtual fundraising initiative to encourage fitness and healthy living among employees. The opportunity to fundraise for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation is inspiring to us, and we are proud to be able to make a real difference in the lives of families living with cerebral palsy. This initiative will be rolled out all year long, globally, and we hope it will lead society to better understand cerebral palsy and those affected by it so that we can make a lasting difference for people with the condition,” said Mr. Raj Gummadapu, CEO, Techwave. Metaskins Co-Founder David Cummings On The People’s Metaverse – BSC NEWS https://collincountynewsonline.com/metaskins-co-founder-david-cummings-on-the-peoples-metaverse-bsc-news/ Metaskins Co-Founder David Cummings said the decentralized metaverse is more promising to creators than centralized projects from major tech companies. Metaskins Co-Founder: Metaverse not ‘Meta and Intel’ Metaskins Studio Co-Founder David Cummings believes that decentralization is key to the Metaverse reaching its full potential, for creators and users. Broadly speaking, the Metaverse can refer to the online digital world where people can work, play and socialize. Many people believe the Metaverse already exists in Web2 games like Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite. The Metaverse, of course, is a major developing theme in blockchain. Some predict huge growth in wearable Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) in parallel with the rise of the Metaverse. The idea of clothes made of pixels has been around for a long time, for example, in video games. In the blockchain Metaverse, people can explore their preferred fashions with NFT outfits. Metaskins is one company that’s making waves in the Metaverse. Beyond character skins and wearables, the Metaverse design studio also specializes in Metaverse infrastructure, gaming and events. Source At the recent Messari Mainnet event in New York City, BSC News had the opportunity to speak with Cummings to learn more about his thoughts on the Metaverse. “I’ve always been very interested in crypto and investing in crypto, etc. Just from watching the younger generation, and even for people my own age, this proved to me that Metaverse would become an important part of the next revolution of the internet and has become such an important part of my life since then. To me, it doesn’t seem like it stops here,” Cummings said. Metaskins has thrown successful Metaverse events, from partnerships like Bare Knuckle Fight Championships to Metaverse casino nights in Decentraland. The company created high-resolution 3D art in The Holy One’s NFT collection as well as in The Fetus Apes NFT collection. In addition, Metaskins has helped major legacy companies get on board the Web3 revolution, such as Etro and PUMA. The Decentralized Metaverse Major tech companies are competing to stake their claims in the online Metaverse via their centralized platforms. For example, Facebook renamed itself Meta last year, and soon after Microsoft announced that its Teams videoconferencing product would become the workplace Metaverse of choice. Meanwhile, decentralized Web3 Metaverses are attracting billions of dollars in venture capital. Source But, what do decentralized Metaverse projects offer that giants like Meta and Microsoft do not? Cummings said centralized Metaverses constrain creativity and restrict potential earnings. “Centralized ecosystems require creators to follow their guidelines completely. There are so many different barriers to get around that it ends up being a terrible experience for the creator,” Cummings said. “The first thing you’re going to get is probably 12% of the pie. Second, the minute they say this isn’t good for their brand or product, you’re out.” Web3 allows users to move digital assets across platforms, Cummings said, which can exponentially increase the value of those assets compared to Web2. Music NFTs, for example, let listeners own and play music on any platform, making them more valuable. Further, the artist benefits directly from the sale of the NFT. “You know, if you’re part of this decentralized Metaverse ecosystem, everyone wants to support each other’s projects and visions because they understand that the work that goes into each initiative and that 100% of its profits go back to the creators,” Cummings said. Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, described Web3 as “an autonomous creation in which users, if not owners, are beneficiaries.” “So I think there’s something really important about building out the decentralized universe. That’s the members, and the people. When I think of the Metaverse, I don’t think of Meta and Intel,” Cummings said. What Is Metaskins: Metaskins is a one-stop shop for Metaverse or Non-Fungible Token (NFT) needs. Based in Colombia, the design studio specializes in personalized digital wearables, custom infrastructure built on Metaverse parcels and brand-tailored Metaverse events. The company’s work and services includes high-quality Metaverse-ready 3D avatars, digital modeling, marketing, smart contract development, video game development and more. Metaskins’ partners and clients include Puma, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, MMA TV, The Holy Ones NFT collection, Fetus Apes NFT collection, Snarky Sharks NFT, NFtweak, etc. Where to find Metaskins: Website | Twitter

South Korea To Roll Out Digital IDs As Banks Push Blockchain Driver’s Licenses – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/south-korea-to-roll-out-digital-ids-as-banks-push-blockchain-drivers-licenses-cryptonews/ Source: Tippapatt/Adobe South Korea may soon do away with plastic – and ditch physical forms of ID in favor of blockchain technology-powered alternatives. Smartphone ownership is estimated to be upward of 88% in South Korea – with some sources claiming the figure may be as high as 95%. And tech firms, the government, the police force, and banks have responded by launching initiatives aimed at doing away with plastic driver’s license cards and social security ID cards. Instead, they now favor blockchain-powered digital alternatives. Woori Bank, one of the nation’s largest commercial banks, announced that it would begin actively “promoting the issuance and use of mobile driver’s licenses” at the 2022 International Security Industry Expo, E Today reported. Bank staff will begin informing customers on how to go about receiving a blockchain-powered ID. These digital cards can be obtained on-the-spot by using machines in nationwide branches of the National Police Agency and the Road Traffic Authority. Banks – such as Woori – have also begun accepting smartphone-based driver’s licenses as a form of identification at branches this year. Blockchain ID Push Intensifies The move comes hot on the heels of a report from Bloomberg this week, which quoted Suh Bo-ram, the Director-General of South Korea’s digital government bureau, as stating that smartphone-based ID cards would be the norm by 2024. Suh told the news outlet that the government hopes to roll its solution out in 2024. Seoul hopes to transition 45 million of its 52 million citizens onto the cards by 2026. Suh also confirmed that the solution will make use of decentralized identity (DID) solutions (also known as distributed identity authentication). He called the solutions an “advanced strand of blockchain technology.” Suh stated: “Every service that hasn’t been able to fully transition online will now be able to do so.” DID solutions have been in the pipelines for several years in South Korea. Both the private sector and the government are keen to develop contact-free, online ID solutions that make use of blockchain technology. Tech giants like Samsung and LG have entered the fray, with some predicting a coming “war” of rival blockchain-powered ID offerings. Following a successful launch in 2020, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security announced in July this year that citizens nationwide could use mobile driver’s licenses stored on its own app. Earlier this year, two of Woori’s rivals, Kookmin Bank and IBK Industrial Bank, announced that they would use DID services to allow military personnel online access to banking products. The solution will allow soldiers to prove their identities without the need to visit bricks-and-mortar branches.

BMW Plans To Invest $1.7 Billion In U.S. To Produce Electric Vehicles – CNBC https://collincountynewsonline.com/bmw-plans-to-invest-1-7-billion-in-u-s-to-produce-electric-vehicles-cnbc/ BMW Group plans to invest $1.7 billion in its U.S. operations to build electric vehicles and batteries, the company announced Wednesday. The investment will include $1 billion to prepare for production of EVs at the automaker’s existing Spartanburg factory in South Carolina, and $700 million for a new high-voltage battery-assembly facility in nearby Woodruff. The German automaker expects to produce at least six fully electric models in the U.S. by 2030. The Spartanburg facility, where the investment announcement took place, currently produces BMW “X” SUVs and lithium-ion battery modules for its two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Production of the new hybrid-electric BMW XM is expected to begin later this year.  “Going forward, it will also be a major driver for our electrification strategy, and we will produce at least six fully electric BMW X models here by 2030,” BMW Chair Oliver Zipse said in a release. BMW on Wednesday also announced a deal to purchase battery cells from Japan-based Envision AESC, which will build a new battery cell factory in South Carolina to supply the BMW plants. The Envision AESC facility is expected to have annual production capacity of 30 gigawatt hours — in line with plans of other automakers and battery suppliers for U.S. plants, BMW said. A spokesperson for Envision AESC was not immediately available for comment. In April, the company announced plans to spend $2 billion to build a second U.S. plant in Kentucky. Its first plant in Tennessee supplies Nissan Motor. BMW has already announced four additional battery cell factories will be built in Europe and China to meet its demand for next-generation battery cells. The announcements are the latest of several recent multibillion-dollar investments in U.S production of EVs and batteries amid tightening emissions regulations and legislation to encourage domestic manufacturing. Automakers are also facing stricter sourcing guidelines that are part of the Inflation Reduction Act and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, formerly the North American Free Trade Agreement. Both policies increased requirements for domestically sourced vehicle parts and materials to avoid tariffs or qualify for financial incentives.

Israel Eyes Government Bond Issuance Via Blockchain Technology – U.S. News & World Report https://collincountynewsonline.com/israel-eyes-government-bond-issuance-via-blockchain-technology-u-s-news-world-report/ JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel’s government is preparing to issue government bonds using a blockchain technology platform, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) said on Wednesday. Implementation of advanced technologies such as blockchain, the TASE said, would reduce costs, shorten the duration issuance and clearing of government bonds, improve transparency and mitigate risks. The issuance is still in the planning stage and the Finance Ministry and TASE are examining an application for the sale of digital government bonds on a blockchain platform. Israel’s Accountant General and the TASE said they were motivated by developments in financial markets in recent years, including using the Blockchain Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) as well possible issuance of central bank digital currencies. As part of a pilot issuance, local and foreign banks will participate in a live test and will be connected to a dedicated blockchain system that will be developed by the TASE and private companies. The issue will ultimately be in digital currency and transferred to electronic wallets. (Reporting by Steven Scheer; Editing by Alex Richardson) Copyright 2022 Thomson Reuters.

Advice | Using The Wrong ATM In Europe Could Cost You Hundreds Of Dollars – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/advice-using-the-wrong-atm-in-europe-could-cost-you-hundreds-of-dollars-the-washington-post/ Using an ATM overseas isn’t like withdrawing from a cash machine in the United States. If you rush to agree to terms without paying close attention, you could wind up losing hundreds of dollars on unnecessary conversion fees. I wish I had warned my brother about this when he visited me in Athens this summer. As we were exploring the historic Plaka district one hot afternoon, he excused himself to withdraw money from an automatic teller. A few minutes later, he returned with 1,000 euros. The cost: $1,219. That couldn’t be right, I told him. But his receipt from a company called Euronet showed the breakdown: a transaction fee of 3.95 euros, an exchange rate of 0.82 euros to the dollar and a 13 percent markup from the going exchange rate. I asked him if the ATM had disclosed these expenses during the transaction. “I saw the 3.95 euro fee,” he said. “But I didn’t notice the exchange rate and the markup.” Many customers also fail to notice unfavorable exchange rates that allow some companies to cash in. “That’s one of the hidden ATM costs,” said Arun Tharmarajah, head of European banking and expansion at Wise, a financial tech company that specializes in online money transfers. “Customers don’t know about them.” So why am I kicking myself about these high ATM expenses? Because I knew about them, and I should have said something. I routinely hear from readers who report fees and surcharges that almost make the exchange rate from the ATM in Greece look like a bargain. And back in 2020, when I was living in Lisbon, I encountered a pricey ATM operated by Euronet. I had spent the last of my euros on a loaf of fresh pão de centeio at a cash-only local bakery. Just across the street, I spotted an ATM. I was relieved when it accepted my card, but that feeling quickly gave way to dismay. The exchange rate looked off. Instead of my U.S. dollar being worth 0.90 euros, it only gave me 0.80. Then I checked the numbers: The machine charged a $4 fee, plus a 12 percent markup — displayed on the screen in small print — for exchanging my dollars. Euronet Worldwide operates a network of more than 50,000 ATMs in 63 countries, according to the company. Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman for Euronet Worldwide, said all of its charges are “clear, transparent and prominently displayed” before every transaction. “The customer may opt out of the transaction at any time at no cost,” she said in an email. She said Euronet is committed to offering convenient cash to people around the world, but that there is a cost involved with providing this service, “which we believe is fair and reasonable.” Simone Semprini, who lives in Lisbon and is the CEO of TourScanner, a comparison site for tours and activities, says high ATM fees are a big concern for his customers. “In the last few years, we have seen the rise of ATMs that charge huge commissions,” he said. The ATMs endear themselves to locals in two ways. First, by handsomely compensating shopkeepers who host them (merchants have told Semprini they receive up to $1,000 a month to keep a cash machine at their location). And also, by allowing customers with a bank account in the ATM’s home country to withdraw with lower fees. Greg Grobmyer, a dentist from Chattanooga, Tenn., says he was stunned when he returned from a trip to Poland and found $100 in commissions and fees on his credit card bill. He’d found a cash machine in Krakow after needing to settle up a hotel bill. Although the exchange rate didn’t look great, he didn’t run the numbers before accepting his withdrawal. “It is unnerving to see those not-so-tiny commissions mounting up to hundreds of dollars,” he said in an email. “Especially if you can avoid them.” How to avoid high ATM charges So how do you avoid high ATM charges? Preparation is key. Call your bank before you leave the country to find out what kind of out-of-network ATM fees it charges for overseas transactions. Some banks waive the fees or will credit you after you return to the United States. Michael Foguth, founder of Foguth Financial Group in Brighton, Mich., recommends calling your bank before your trip to order some currency of the country where you’re traveling. He says it may be less expensive, but not free. It requires an in-person visit, and your bank may also offer a less favorable exchange rate when you buy foreign currency. There are workarounds once you’re on the ground. Mine was to head to a bank ATM, which may give you a better exchange rate. Not a perfect solution: Halfway through the transaction, the machine asked if I wanted to conduct the transaction in dollars or euros. As with credit cards, it’s best to conduct transactions in the local currency and let your bank do the conversion. Another fix: using a multicurrency debit card to reduce your exchange costs. The financial services app Revolut, for example, converts your money at the more favorable interbank rate (that’s the rate banks charge each other to exchange money). For transactions at out-of-network ATMs, Revolut doesn’t charge a fee for withdrawals of up to $1,200 (or the local currency equivalent) per month. After that, it charges a 2 percent fee of the value of an ATM withdrawal. Wise, another popular app, also uses the real rate and charges for exchanges on a sliding scale. It’ll cost about $4 to convert $1,000 to euros. For ATMs, there’s no charge for the first $250 in a month, and you pay a 2 percent fee for anything above that. Andy Abramson, who runs a communications consultancy in Las Vegas, has used both services and says he prefers them to traditional bank transactions. “I load them up with money and then use them when traveling,” Abramson said. “I can add money when needed in seconds and be spending locally in local currency without any fees.”

Nestle September Quarter Profit Rises 8% To Rs 668 Crore The Indian Express
Nestle September Quarter Profit Rises 8% To Rs 668 Crore The Indian Express
Nestle September Quarter Profit Rises 8% To Rs 668 Crore – The Indian Express https://collincountynewsonline.com/nestle-september-quarter-profit-rises-8-to-rs-668-crore-the-indian-express/ FMCG major Nestle India on Wednesday reported 8.25 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 668.34 crore for the third quarter ended September 2022, helped by a volume growth across categories. The company, which follows January-December financial year, had posted a net profit of Rs 617.37 crore in the same period a year ago, it said in a BSE filing. Net sales were up 18.24 per cent to Rs 4,591 crore during the period under review as against Rs 3,882.57 crore in the year-ago period, the company said. It has “witnessed the highest sales growth during a quarter in the last five years,” said an earning statement from the company. Nestle India Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan said this achievement has been “on continued strong volume and mix evolution with broad-based double-digit growth” across all categories. “Growth has been very strong in the large metros and mega cities and continued to be robust across smaller town classes, including rural markets,” he said. Total expenses in September quarter were at Rs 3,715.40 crore as against Rs 3,081.99 crore in the year-ago period. Domestic sales were up 18.27 per cent to Rs 4,361.15 crore as compared to Rs 3,687.37 crore in the year-ago period. The “domestic sales growth is broad-based with a healthy balance of pricing and volume,” said Nestle. During the quarter, e-commerce channel contributed 7.2 per cent of Nestle India’s sales. This was largely fuelled by new, emerging formats such as ‘quick commerce’ and ‘click & mortar’, it added. Its exports were up 15.68 per cent to Rs 205.45 crore as compared to the year-ago period. The increase in exports was led by the “proliferation of Indian product portfolio in new markets and expanding new categories, especially wider offerings in MAGGI and confectionery remains a key focus,” it said. Commenting on commodity outlook in the short to medium term, Nestle India said: “We are witnessing early signs of stability in prices of a few commodities such as edible oils and packaging materials. “However, fresh milk, fuels, grains and green coffee costs are expected to remain firm with the continued increase in demand and volatility,” it added. Meanwhile, in a separate filing, Nestle India informed that its board, in a meeting held on Wednesday, declared a second interim dividend of Rs 120 per equity share of Rs 10 each for 2022. Shares of Nestle India were trading 1.62 per cent up at Rs 19,700 apiece on the BSE.

The Deviceless RPM solution will extend the reach of its care management services to rising-risk patient populations and remotely monitor the whole health of patients with chronic condition-specific programs for asthma, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure (CHF), high blood pressure, as well as to support healthy living. OSF OnCall Connect initially focused on providing care to high-risk patients with chronic conditions. But through the addition of CareSignal’s Deviceless RPM technology, OSF OnCall Connect can now scale to reach an additional 117,000 rising-risk patients with chronic conditions. The technology will also allow the Peoria, IL-based health system to expand health literacy and support wellness needs. The 117,000 eligible patients are part of the Medicaid Transformation Project, a national effort to transform healthcare and meet related social needs for the millions of Americans who rely on Medicaid. OSF HealthCare is one of the 17 large, innovative health systems participating in this program. CareSignal’s Deviceless RPM technology uses text messages and interactive voice response (IVR) calls to engage with patients and monitor symptoms remotely. The familiar and accessible technology enables OSF OnCall Connect to engage vulnerable populations through its Medicaid Innovation Collaborative and achieve its goals of extending care management to rising-risk patients, building chronic disease management strategies, reducing barriers to healthcare, and closing health equity gaps. U.S. Mulls Joint Weapons Production With Taiwan, Nikkei Reports – Reuters.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/u-s-mulls-joint-weapons-production-with-taiwan-nikkei-reports-reuters-com/ TOKYO, Oct 19 (Reuters) – The U.S. government is considering a plan to jointly produce weapons with Taiwan, Japan’s Nikkei newspaper said on Wednesday, citing three sources. Washington wants to step up production capacity for U.S.-designed arms and speed up their transfer as part of a move to bolster deterrence against China, Nikkei reported. Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday that China would never renounce the right to use force over Taiwan, which it views as its own territory, but that it would strive for a peaceful resolution. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Taiwan’s presidential office said earlier this week Taiwan would not back down on its sovereignty and would not compromise on freedom and democracy, but that meeting on the battlefield was not an option. The Nikkei report added that a person with direct knowledge of the U.S. government’s deliberations said discussions had begun, while a different source said it was likely to take some time. Possibilities would include the U.S. providing technology to produce weapons in Taiwan, or producing the weapons in the United States using Taiwanese parts, the Nikkei added. Tensions in the region remain high. On Tuesday, the Taiwan Defence Ministry said two Chinese air force planes crossed the Taiwan Strait median line. Stock Futures Give Up Earlier Gains, Turn Negative Despite Netflix’s Strong Results – CNBC https://collincountynewsonline.com/stock-futures-give-up-earlier-gains-turn-negative-despite-netflixs-strong-results-cnbc/ U.S. stock futures gave up gains from earlier in the day Wednesday, even after the release of strong quarterly results from Netflix. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 120 points, or 0.4%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures traded lower by 0.5% each. Netflix shares rallied 13% after the streaming giant posted earnings and revenue that beat estimates as well as strong subscriber growth for the third quarter. Other tech-related names such as Meta, Amazon and Microsoft traded higher in the premarket. Those results come as some on Wall Street reset their earnings projections lower as investors worry about a recession. Gene Goldman, chief investment officer at Cetera Investment Management, said that while an economic recession could be mild, the market could struggle with those downward revisions. “Earnings estimates are a bit too high for the S&P 500 at 7% to 9% per year going forward,” he said. “Slowing economic growth and Fed rate hikes will likely put downward pressure on earnings. Because earnings drive stock prices, they could pressure markets for some time.” Tech earnings will be in full swing next week, but IBM and Tesla are on deck to report Wednesday. Social media firm Snap will report later in the week. In economic data, investors are looking forward to housing starts on Wednesday. The Federal Reserve’s so-called Beige Book, the central bank’s report on the current state of economic conditions, will come out as well. Wednesday’s moves came after another strong day for stocks, with the Dow rallying about 337 points Tuesday and the S&P 500 gaining 1.1%. Yields rise, with 2-year Treasury topping 4.5% Yields moved higher on Wednesday morning, with the entire Treasury curve moving up. The 2-year Treasury yield, which is seen as highly sensitive to the path of Federal Reserve policy, pushed above 4.5%. The benchmark 10-year Treasury rose nearly 9 basis points to 4.086%. A basis point is equal to 0.01 percentage points, and yields move opposite of price. The rise in yields could be the culprit for the swoon in futures this morning. Higher interest rates have weighed on stocks all year, particularly growth-oriented tech names. — Jesse Pound Procter & Gamble pops on strong earnings Procter & Gamble posted quarterly numbers that beat analyst expectations, sending the stock up 2%. The consumer goods giant earned per share of $1.57 on revenue of $20.61 billion. Analysts expected the company to report earnings of $1.54 per share on revenue of $20.28 billion, according to Refinitiv. Organic revenue, which strips out the impact of acquisitions, divestitures and foreign currency, rose 7%. Read more here. — Amelia Lucas What Wall Street analysts have to say about Netflix’s quarter Many analysts cheered Netflix‘s quarterly results, which could signal the start of a bigger turnaround for the streaming giant. Deutsche Bank analyst Bryan Kraft also upgraded Netflix to buy, noting that there’s now “visibility into a subscriber growth inflection point next year given that Netflix management has confirmed both the early 2023 introduction of its new measures designed to better monetize account sharing.” JPMorgan’s Doug Anmuth also upgraded the stock to overweight from neutral, noting that he sees the company’s crackdown on password sharing and new advertising initiatives as tools to help the company accelerate revenue growth. CNBC Pro subscribers can read more here. — Sam Subin European markets: Here are the opening calls European markets are heading for a higher open on Wednesday, looking to build on gains in the previous session. The U.K.’s FTSE index is expected to open 17 points higher at 6,960, the German DAX up 29 points at 12,824 and the French CAC up 12 points at 6,090, according to data from IG. — Hannah Ward-Glenton CNBC Pro: Goldman Sachs outlines four economic scenarios and predicts how gold will perform in each It’s been a choppy year for gold, with the precious metal “torn between growth and inflation risks and higher real rates and the strong dollar,” Goldman analysts wrote in an Oct. 11 note. “In our view, there remains a lot of uncertainty around the future path of U.S. inflation, growth, rates and the central bank (CB)’s reaction functions.” Goldman ran four different economic scenarios, and predicted where gold prices could end up in each case. CNBC Pro subscribers can read more here. — Weizhen Tan U.S. crude futures move up $1 per barrel on expectations that Biden will release oil from Strategic Petroleum Reserve Futures of West Texas Intermediate crude moved up around $1, or 1.33% and futures of Brent crude rose $0.83, or 0.92% as the Biden administration is expected to release more oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The plan could be announced as early as Wednesday, sources told CNBC. The move aims to extend the current SPR delivery program, which began this spring, through December, the sources said. –Kayla Tausche, Jihye Lee Company earnings are beating expectations Of the 9.15% of S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings so far this season, 70% of them have posted positive surprises, according to data from FactSet. Earnings expectations have been lowered considerably and the market is braced for a good amount of negative news in earnings season, Yung-Yu Ma, BMO Wealth Management chief investment strategist, told CNBC. However, he added, “to the extent that that doesn’t actually transpire, that we get more of a nuanced message that companies on average are doing okay, okay is still pretty good in an environment where the market is braced for volatility, turmoil, slowing growth, declines and a challenging environment.” — Tanaya Macheel Netflix pops after hours on earnings Shares of the streaming giant Netflix jumped in extended trading after it reported quarterly results, including the addition of 2.41 million net global subscribers, which is more than twice what it projected a quarter ago. Stock futures open higher Tuesday night Stock futures opened higher Tuesday evening after the major averaged posted a second straight day of gains and Netflix reported strong earnings after the bell. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 124 points, or 0.4%. S&P 500 futures gained 0.7% and Nasdaq 100 futures jumped 1.2%. — Tanaya Macheel

By Patricia Doherty Dive into the holiday spirit with some of the best places to travel in November In San Miguel de Allende, Dia de Los Muertos celebrates the lives of those who have departed with parades and costumes, and in Natchez, an event brings art to a historic inn. Autumn in New York City is always beautiful, and travellers can choose to visit later in the month of November to get into the holiday spirit with ice skating rinks, Christmas trees, and decorations showing up around Thanksgiving. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico Image Credit: Stephen Simpson/Getty Images Located in Mexico’s Sierra Central Mountains about 200 miles from Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende is one of Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best cities. The UNESCO World Heritage Site’s atmosphere, architecture, restaurants, and artistic style make it a great place to visit year-round. In November, its celebration of Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is among the most exciting in all of Mexico, with the five-day La Calaca festival, Catrinas Parade, and colourful makeup and costumes. At the elegant Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, professional makeup artists are available to turn faces into beautiful skulls, while many guests enjoy the festivities and city views from the Luna rooftop bar. Scottsdale, Arizona Pleasant weather makes November a perfect time to be outdoors in Scottsdale. There are new hiking trails to explore, plenty of golf courses to choose from, and with temperatures in the sunny 70s, there’s still time to relax by a hotel pool. This year, the annual waterfront event on the Arizona Canal — Canal Convergence — celebrates its tenth anniversary from November 4-13 with the theme “Celebrating 10 Years of Water + Art + Light.” The free public art festival features large-scale works by international artists, family-friendly activities, performances, music, workshops, and food. A range of places to stay includes The Hotel Valley Ho, Mountain Shadows Resort, and ADERO Scottsdale, set above the Sonoran Desert in a Certified Dark Sky Community. Egypt With cooler temperatures, November is the best time to explore Egypt’s fascinating and extraordinarily well-preserved temples, pyramids, and monuments. From Cairo’s pyramids, Sphinx, and bustling city to Luxor’s Valley of the Kings and ancient temples, the Nile is the centre of thousands of years of history. This November celebrates 100 years since the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter and his benefactor Lord Carnarvon. After years of delays, the Grand Egyptian Museum near Cairo is scheduled to open in November. Viking’s Pharaohs & Pyramids cruise is the perfect way to see these marvels in comfort, with the newest ships on the Nile and Egyptologist-guided tours to make the experience engaging and meaningful. New Orleans, Louisiana November brings comfortable weather and exciting events to New Orleans, including Thanksgiving weekend’s Bayou Classic college football rivalry. The Caribbean Carnival Bayou Bacchanal celebrates Caribbean culture, cuisine, and music on November 5 in Crescent Park. The New Orleans Film Festival will be held from November 3-8 at various venues. At the National WWII Museum, “Expressions of America,” a sound and light show, opens November 11. The nighttime spectacular, presented by the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, combines music, special effects, and wartime correspondence from the Museum’s collection — an experience that is sure to be exciting, educational, and emotional. Stay at the Higgins Hotel on the museum’s campus, the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot, the Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans, the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans, or one of the many other lovely hotels in the city. Cayman Islands Located in the western Caribbean, the Cayman Islands comprise Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. The largest, Grand Cayman, is home to Seven Mile Beach and snorkelling destination Stingray City, located about 25 miles (40 km) off the island’s shore. Visit the capital city of George Town for art galleries, duty-free shops, restaurants, and museums. Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park features a lake, garden, and rare blue iguanas. Nonstop flights on Cayman Airways are available from New York, Miami, Tampa, Denver, and starting November 5, Los Angeles. Stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, or Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. New York, New York In November, New York City is the perfect combination of autumn and winter, embellished by fall colours in Central Park and, as the month progresses, holiday decorations throughout the city. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, and the New York City Marathon are popular November events, and Broadway shows are once again in full swing. With so many places to stay throughout the city, consider the convenient Conrad NY Midtown, Pendry Manhattan West, Hard Rock Hotel, or the Ritz-Carlton NY Central Park. Aspen Snowmass, Colorado Come November, there’s a definite chill in the air in Aspen Snowmass, and there might be flurries by the end of the month. Take advantage of this time for hiking, mountain biking, or exploring the towns of Snowmass and Aspen for shopping, dining, and nightlife. Stay at the newly renovated Viewline Resort Snowmass with its slopeside location, heated outdoor pool, and Lupine Spa, or at pet-friendly Wildwood Snowmass in the same complex. One Snowmass offers two, three, and four-bedroom luxury vacation rentals. In Aspen, The Little Nell is a classic with its popular Ajax Tavern and convenient location. Look for non-stop flights or Denver connections to Aspen from major cities. From Los Angeles or San Francisco, you can take a private jet-style trip to Aspen on Aero. Los Angeles, California The air is clear, and there’s still pleasant weather for the beach, a hike, al fresco dining, or whatever you choose to do in LA. Celebrate Dia de Los Muertos on Olvera Street where you can also shop, listen to mariachi music, or dine at an outdoor cafe. LA’s rooftops are especially inviting in November, and you can choose the buzzy Rooftop at JG at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, the Rooftop at The Wayfarer, Spire 73 at the Intercontinental DTLA, Agua Viva at the new Conrad Los Angeles, or many others around the city. Dine poolside at the Hotel Figueroa’s La Casita, or at the Canopy Club at Culver City’s Shay Hotel. The Los Angeles Auto Show returns this year from November 18-27. The Enchanted Forest of Light opens on November 20 and continues until January 8, 2023. Austin, Texas This fast-growing city is a great destination in November as the weather cools. The Austin Film Festival is set for October 27-November 3, billed as one of the top festivals in the country. Foodies will want to visit for the annual Austin Food + Wine Festival from November 4-6, with some of the nation’s top chefs, sommeliers, and winemakers. Another entertaining event is the Austin Celtic Festival from November 5-6, featuring music, dance, storytelling, and Scottish Highland Games. Stay downtown at the Thompson Austin in the heart of the entertainment district or at the creative tommie Austin. Also downtown, The Driskill has welcomed guests for more than a century. Natchez, Mississippi The oldest city on the Mississippi, Natchez is a walkable example of small-town America. More than 500 historic buildings, pre-Civil War mansions, and over 1,000 structures on the National Register of Historic Places make it an interesting place to visit. Allumer Natchez (November 11-12) will feature local and national artists in a contemporary exhibition on the grounds of the Dunleith Historic Inn. You can see even more of the Mississippi River, including a stop at Natchez, on a Viking Mississippi River Cruise. Hawaii, Hawaii The “Big Island” of Hawaii is the largest, youngest, and most diverse of the islands. The dry Kona Coast, lush Hilo, black-sand beaches, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park provide much to see. Places to stay vary from luxurious resorts to AirBnbs. The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai offers a range of accommodations from guest rooms to suites and multi-bedroom villas. Golf, swimming, and a variety of experiences are available at the resort. Also on the sunny Kohala Coast, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort feature two golf courses and a variety of accommodations. Nvidia Fashions Industrial-Strength Metaverse-As-A-Service Forbes
Nvidia Fashions Industrial-Strength Metaverse-As-A-Service – Forbes https://collincountynewsonline.com/nvidia-fashions-industrial-strength-metaverse-as-a-service-forbes/ Nvidia Nvidia, having announced an unexpected entry into the field of metaverse-enabling software, brings a surprising focus on industrial applications to an emerging technology that has largely been garnering attention for novel consumer services, gaming and marketing. With a significant revenue windfall from selling its graphics chips to Ethereum miners come and gone, the chipmaker now sees an opportunity for building out immersive manufacturing-design capabilities based on its computing systems into an industrial-oriented metaverse. CEO Jensen Huang describes this as a “3D extension of the internet.” That may be at odds with the outlook for a decentralized, blockchain-based metaverse that shifts away from the current corporate-dominated model, a path championed by enthusiasts of so-called web3 technologies. “A lot of people think that—when you say “metaverse,” they imagine putting on VR headsets, but it’s obviously not just that,” Huang told technology news publication VentureBeat. “You can do that, but you can also enjoy it in 2D. One of my favorite ways of enjoying the metaverse is a whole bunch of robots in the metaverse doing work and communicating with robots that are outside in the physical world,” he added. “The physical world and the metaverse can be connected in a lot of different ways. It doesn’t just have to be humans. It can be machine to machine.” Nvidia’s industrial focus stands in contrast to that of Meta–the company that liked the thought of social media combining with the metaverse so much it changed its name–which signed up with partners like Microsoft and Accenture to develop office-related functionality after a year in which its more leisurely approach flopped. In fact, the glamorous 3D spaces where human avatars can shop, party and work are struggling to attract users. Most visitors to Meta’s Horizon Worlds generally don’t return after the first month, and the user base has steadily declined since the spring, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report. Decentraland, a blockchain-based metaverse valued at $1 billion, where users can buy plots of virtual land, had been reported by CoinDesk to have a measly 38 daily active users, though the company disputed the claim last week, saying the number is 8,000. Meanwhile, Nvidia is rolling out simulations for developing, testing and managing artificial-intelligence-based robots (Isaac Sim) and autonomous vehicles (DRIVE Sim). The platforms are part of the company’s suite of cloud services purpose-built for metaverse applications called Omniverse Cloud. Unveiled at Nvidia’s annual GPU Technology Conference (known as GTC) last month, it is the company’s first software-and infrastructure-as-a-service offering, which is already being used by the likes of Siemens, Europe’s largest industrial manufacturer, and Croatian luxury carmaker Rimac. “We’ve always understood from the beginning that we’re not just a chip company,” says Rev Lebaredian, vice president of Omniverse and simulation technology at Nvidia. “Software, the understanding of the whole stack has been critical to the type of computing we do. Accelerated computing is all about vertical integration of the technology from chips all the way up to applications.” While metaverse-enabling software is a relatively new market for the Santa Clara, California-based tech giant, its 3D collaborative tools under the Omniverse umbrella, based on Pixar’s Universal Scene Description standard, have attracted over 200,000 individual users and more than 700 companies since launch in 2019. In addition, they run on chips and hardware Nvidia is most famous for, including NVIDIA OVX, a computing system specifically designed to power large-scale digital twin simulations, which replicate real-world spaces in a metaverse environment. “There’s already plenty of understanding or at least discussion and enthusiasm around building a metaverse that has gaming and social kinds of experiences. There’s very little public discourse about how the metaverse will help industries,” Lebaredian says. That doesn’t mean that our technology stack isn’t applicable to things outside of the industrial use cases. It’s just where our focus is,” he adds. The company has identified the potential market for Omniverse enterprise software at $150 billion. Lebaredian told Forbes the company has “hundreds of engineers” working on Omniverse and invested “many hundreds of millions of dollars into it,” but he declined to provide the specifics. “Our investment has been growing. This is a long-term play. We’re going to be doing this for decades,” said the executive. As for most companies jumping on the metaverse bandwagon, it may take a while for Nvidia to realize a return on these investments. Matt Bryson, senior vice president of equity research at Wedbush, says Nvidia’s vision is “compelling” but “significant Omniverse use cases and related revenues remain some ways out.” Still, Lebaredian believes Nvidia has a role to play in whatever vision of the metaverse will prevail—be it enterprise-controlled applications or decentralized havens of web3. “History has shown that usually it’s not one or the other. We’re going to see some combination of these things,” he says. “I think our computers will be used regardless of which path you go from here.”

GB Operator Is A Fun Gadget For Game Boy Fans Tested On Steam Deck – GamingOnLinux https://collincountynewsonline.com/gb-operator-is-a-fun-gadget-for-game-boy-fans-tested-on-steam-deck-gamingonlinux/ Recently I mentioned GB Operator a little USB gadget that reads cartridges of the Game Boy, Game Boy Colour and Game Boy Advance. After giving it a go myself (personal purchase), I’m impressed and a little in love. The idea is that it allows you to play games from cartridges directly using a built-in emulator with their Operator app, along with the ability to back up to roms to have your own private collection that you can then use in whatever emulator you want. You can also mess with save files, allowing you to back them up (say if your cart won’t save properly) or edit them for your own entertainment. Here’s a first look at the device with a Steam Deck: As mentioned in the video it’s not perfected yet. They need an easy way to cleanly exit the cart on Steam Deck, with it currently relying on keyboard ESC which doesn’t work properly. It also sometimes won’t open the Operator app, unless you unplug the device and plug it back in. Some small quirks that can probably be fixed quite easily but overall a pretty fun experience to begin playing with. If you’re a collector of retro games, this is great. Awesome for game preservation too and the fact that it works on Linux so easily, that’s another big tick in the box. Once I’ve had more time to play with it, I’ll have a lot more thoughts but if you do have any comments or questions do let me know. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

JPMorgan Adds Crypto Policy Head After Dimon Ponzi Scheme Quip Bloomberg Law

JPMorgan Adds Crypto Policy Head After Dimon ‘Ponzi Scheme’ Quip – Bloomberg Law https://collincountynewsonline.com/jpmorgan-adds-crypto-policy-head-after-dimon-ponzi-scheme-quip-bloomberg-law/ JPMorgan Chase & Co. has hired a new head of digital assets regulatory policy, less than a month after CEO Jamie Dimon told lawmakers that cryptocurrencies are “decentralized Ponzi schemes.” Aaron Iovine joined the company this week as executive director for digital assets regulatory policy, a newly created role, a JPMorgan spokeswoman confirmed. He was previously head of policy and regulatory for cryptocurrency lender Celsius Network Ltd., whose bankruptcy filing has roiled the digital asset market. JPMorgan is looking to build out its policy ranks in the evolving digital asset space amid increased regulatory scrutiny and a downturn in cryptocurrency values. Iovine didn’t respond to a comment request. Dimon and other JPMorgan executives have been vocal critics of digital assets. Dimon’s “Ponzi schemes” comment came Sept. 21 in congressional testimony, during which he called himself a “major skeptic on crypto tokens.” Takis Georgakopoulos, global head of payments at JPMorgan, told Bloomberg Television last month that he sees “very little” demand for cryptocurrencies as a payment tool. JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon testifies at Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing on Sept. 22, 2022. Photo: Al Drago/Bloomberg In addition to hiring Iovine, JPMorgan this month posted an opening for a digital assets counsel position with its corporate and investment bank in New York. Stacey Friedman, who has been JPMorgan’s general counsel since 2015, didn’t respond to a request for comment about the New York-based financial services giant’s interest in lawyers familiar with distributed ledger technologies. Iovine will work with JPMorgan’s regulatory affairs group, which a year ago welcomed aboard former Davis Polk & Wardwell senior associate Sharon Yang as a managing director and global head of regulatory affairs. Yang previously served as a deputy assistant secretary for international financial markets at the Treasury Department. Celsius hired Iovine earlier this year from Cross River Bank, a digital asset-friendly regional lender. The company recently brought on Benjamin Melnicki from Robinhood Markets Inc. to be its head of cryptocurrency compliance and regulatory. Iovine, who like Melnicki is also an attorney, spent nearly three years at Cross River, where he led policy and regulatory affairs. Cross River hired Iovine in 2019 after he spent nearly a year as a senior regulatory analyst at the law firm White & Case. During the first quarter of this year, Iovine was part of a Cross River team that lobbied Congress on “general issues focused on financial services, fintech partnerships, and the Paycheck Protection Program,” according to a public filing. Iovine departed Fort Lee, N.J.-based Cross River in February to join Celsius, according to his LinkedIn profile. An online bio touts Iovine’s expertise “exploring the future of financial services while working at the intersection of law, policy, and regulation.” He left Celsius in September, two months after the cryptocurrency rewards-earning and lending platform filed for bankruptcy in New York. The Chapter 11 case has already generated large legal bills for Kirkland & Ellis—court filings show the latter has received at least $3.5 million in retainer payments—and other firms. It has also sparked fraud accusations against London-based Celsius by a former company employee, who the debtor has accused of deception. A bankruptcy docket for the Celsius case shows that Iovine’s name appears on a list of thousands of unsecured creditors with claims against the company. Among them are Ron Deutsch, a former counsel at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison hired last year by Celsius to be its general counsel and head of mergers and acquisitions.

Winglet Tech Expanding STC To Include Citation Sovereign Aviation International News
Winglet Tech Expanding STC To Include Citation Sovereign+ – Aviation International News https://collincountynewsonline.com/winglet-tech-expanding-stc-to-include-citation-sovereign-aviation-international-news/ Winglet Technology will amend its current Cessna Citation Sovereign winglet supplemental type certificate (STC) to include the Sovereign+, the company (Booth 1828) announced Wednesday at NBAA-BACE 2002. Winglet Technology president Bob Kiser called the amended STC a natural follow on to the original Sovereign STC awarded by the FAA in June 2017 and EASA in April 2020. The company also previously said it would add the Citation Latitude to the STC. To date, Winglet Technology has delivered more than 35 transitional winglet STC kits to Sovereign customers domestically and internationally. “We have seen interest in our winglets from owners of each—Sovereign, Sovereign+, and Latitude—product line,” Kiser explained. The amended STC would apply to a combined fleet size of more than 700 jets. The Sovereign winglets allow the modified aircraft to climb to FL450 at a higher maximum takeoff weight of 30,755 pounds. Additionally, the winglets increase the speed of the aircraft by up to 35 knots at top of climb, as well as a step climb from FL450 to FL470 at a weight that is 3,000 pounds heavier than a Sovereign without the winglets.  Other performance features include a range improvement of up to 340 nm when payload limited, and a weight, altitude, and temperature (WAT) limit improvement of 8 degrees C or 2,000 pounds at departure elevations of 5,000 feet or higher. Second-segment climb gradients are improved by 0.5 to 0.7 percent at the higher mtow. The company also recently announced it delivered its 100th Citation X elipitical winglet kit. The milestone kit was installed by Yingling Aviation in Wichita, which recently became an authorized installer. Winglet Technology was awarded the STC for the Citation X kit in June 2009, followed by EASA approval in 2010. Further, Cessna announced in 2010 that it selected the elliptical winglet’s design for the upgraded production version, the Citation X+, deliveries of which began in 2014. “For Citation Xs that incorporate the STC, the winglets provide a 315-nm-range increase when payload limited over a non-winglet-equipped Citation X,” Kiser said. “The overall consensus among Citation X operators is that the winglets enhance the lateral and directional stability of their aircraft.” This year also marks the 10th anniversary of an elliptical winglet-equipped Citation X’s record flight. The flight from Anchorage International Airport to Miami International Airport—3,479 nm—exceeded the published maximum range of a Citation X without the winglets and logged a record time of seven hours and 11 minutes at an average speed of 482 knots.

Who Is Donating To South Dakota Candidates? – KELOLAND.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/who-is-donating-to-south-dakota-candidates-keloland-com/ SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Third quarter federal campaign finance reports were published Saturday by the FEC, giving us a closer look at South Dakota candidates with federal election committees. These include Republicans Governor Kristi Noem, Senator John Thune and Representative Dusty Johnson, along with Democrat Brian Bengs, who is running against Thune. Noem’s opponents, Libertarian Tracey Quint and Democrat Jamie Smith, do not appear to have federal committees. Nor does Johnson’s Libertarian challenger Collin Duprel. These reports give us an idea of the amount of money held by each campaign. Noem’s ‘Noem Victory Fund‘, for instance, began 2022 with $70,457.39 on hand. As of Oct. 15, that total had risen to $680,413.35. The most the Fund had possessed in 2022 had been $2,476,055.2, though the campaign has spent over a million of that this year, totaling $1,248,669.9. More than $122,000 it was spent in the third quarter (Aug.-Oct.). Thune has three federal committees that have filed reports for Q3: Thune Victory Committee, Thune Young Victory and John Thune Victory Committee. He began the year with $2,267.26 in the Thune Victory Committee. That committee raised no more money in 2022 and spent its balance prior to Q3. The other two committees compiled a total of $312,079.48 in 2022, with $56,398.03 remaining on hand as of Q3. All total, his three committees have spent $332,947.88 YTD. Johnson’s Friends of Dusty Johnson gathered more funds than any other candidate, amassing $2,476,055.20 in a period running from July 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022, according to his Q3 report. Of that money, $2,264,896.91 remained as of the Q3 report deadline, with the campaign claiming total disbursements of $1,248,669.90. Bengs, whose report also covers the July 2021 to September 2022 period, gathered a total of $346,134.02 through the Brian Bengs For Senate committee. Total disbursements have been $291,798.89, leaving $54,335.13 on hand. The FEC reports also allow us to take a look at the donors that have sent their funds to the candidates, including those who have made contributions of $2,000 or greater. Below, we break down the numbers of $2,000+ donors to each candidate in the 2021-2022 reporting period and look at where the donors come from. For Gov. Noem, the largest amount (91) of her large donors hail from South Dakota, though overall these only account for 24.46% of all her large donors. (Note: this report does not account for people donating less than $2,000). The second highest number of donors come from Texas (71). Donations over $2,000 to Noem by state SD 91 TX 71 CA 29 MN 21 TN 21 CO 19 WY 16 NV 15 FL 14 GA 7 IL 6 NY 6 LA 5 NC 5 OK 5 MI 4 OH 4 WA 4 NE 3 PA 3 SC 3 UT 3 VA 3 WI 3 AZ 2 KS 2 AL 1 IA 1 ID 1 KY 1 MO 1 NM 1 PR 1 Donations over $2000 to Noem by state For Sen. Thune, the majority of his large donors, spread across three committees, came from California (90), followed Texas (84) and then South Dakota (77), which itself came just ahead of New York (76). Donations over $2,000 to Thune by state CA 90 TX 84 SD 77 NY 76 FL 50 VA 34 CO 31 CT 27 DC 27 IL 20 TN 16 NJ 13 NV 13 MA 10 KS 7 MD 7 MI 6 WA 6 LA 5 MN 5 NC 5 OK 5 PA 5 NE 4 SC 4 KY 3 OH 3 AL 2 AR 2 AZ 2 DE 2 UT 2 GA 1 IN 1 MO 1 MT 1 Number of donations over $2000 to Thune by state In contrast to his peers, Rep. Johnson boasts a concentration of large donors from South Dakota, accounting for 84.68% of them. #SleepTourism: A Vacay To Catch Your Forty Winks! Hindustan Times
#SleepTourism: A Vacay To Catch Your Forty Winks! Hindustan Times
#SleepTourism: A Vacay To Catch Your Forty Winks! – Hindustan Times https://collincountynewsonline.com/sleeptourism-a-vacay-to-catch-your-forty-winks-hindustan-times/ Post-pandemic, the tourism industry is moving full steam ahead as people try and make-up for lost time. A branch of wellness tourism that is gaining popularity across the world is sleep tourism as people look to get away from their hectic schedules to improve their sleeping habits. Many sleep-focused properties are also popping up to fulfill this demand. In the beginning In early 2020, Zedwell, a London-based hotel became the first sleep-centric property, which featured innovative soundproof rooms and AI-powered mattresses. A year later, Hastens, a Swedish bed manufacturer established the world’s first 15-room boutique hotel called Hästens Sleep Spa Hotel in the Portuguese city of Coimbra. This trend has seen other hotels jump on the bandwagon, too and offer varied sleep-related services like Rosewood Hotels and Resorts in New York, US that recently launched Alchemy of Sleep, a collection of retreats that are especially designed to promote rest and good sleep. What lead to the rise? The pandemic spurned people into collectively prioritising their general mental and physical well-being. Global travel and tour operator Sandeep Arora, head, Brightsun Travel Private Limited says, “Since Covid-19, there has been a focus on our sleep cycles as many people struggled with it. This might be one of the reasons why this trend has picked. Yes, it’s still not prevalent in India but we have travellers whose sole reason for travelling is to rest and get back to a normal sleep routine.” Insomnia, which is a persistent problem with falling and staying asleep, is one of the most common sleeping disorder that people deal with. “A survey conducted by Nielsen with over 5,600 people across 25 Indian cities confirmed that 93% of Indians suffer from sleep deprivation. This has led to a rise in the sleep therapy market in India and sleep tourism is an attempt to serve this demand, which is growing at the rate of 20 percent,” says Dr Arunesh Kumar, head and senior consultant, Sleep Medicine and Pulmonology, Paras Hospitals, Gurugram. “Relaxation and sleep are a basic human need but owing to the fast paced lifestyle, people have to give dedicated time to fulfill these needs. For those in the corporate world, work stress and lack of personal time makes slow travel a priority. Sleep tourism is a form of slow tourism and it is only going to get bigger from here,” says Chhavi Chadha, travel advisor and founder, Bespoke Tailormade Experiences. Adapting Indian market This concept is slowly making its way to India with a few boutique hotels and luxury properties taking the initiative to offer ways to get better sleep. The Belgadia Palace in Mayurbhanj, Odisha is one such place. “We partnered with a luxury sleep solutions company and our mattresses helps with back and neck ache, which is a very common problem among the youth today. We also offer a pillow concierge service where we provide five different kinds of pillows for various ailments and health issues,” says Akshita Bhanj Deo, owner of the Palace, who published their own sleep playlist. At ₹18,000 plus taxes for a couple’s one night stay, the property offers its guests a speed dial to doctors and mental health experts. Yoga, Ayurvedic practices, naturopathy, chakra spa are some other offerings hotels are providing to ensure mental and physical well-being, including sound sleep. Jehan Numa Hotels in Bhopal also has a pillow menu, which “includes five types of pillow such as microfibre, memory foam, buckwheat hull, siliconised fibre, down and feather pillows. We have not received any direct query for sleep tourism, our guests are on the look out for holidays where they can unwind and rejuvenate from their hectic lives,” shares Faiz Rashid, managing director.
