We’re back with The Sports Slice to take a bite into all things sports and crypto. Some of the latest headlines over the past week include the upcoming launch of LaLiga’s new NFT platform, a college quarterback’s new NFT NIL deal, and a crypto jersey patch deal cut unexpectedly short.
Let’s dive into all of the past week’s crypto and sports activity.

New Zealand Rugby Buys World Of Women Galaxy NFTs
New Zealand’s commercial arm of rugby and national team representative New Zealand Rugby made a hefty purchase of 33 World Of Women Galaxy NFTs this past week; the move is the team’s first NFT purchase, courtesy of some assistance with MoonPay – who is not an official declared partner of the team.
Fans on the team’s official Reddit outlet were unenthused.
LaLiga’s Digital Collectible’s First Platform Drop Is Slated For Later This Month
‘LaLiga Golazos,’ the long-awaited NFT product courtesy of Dapper Labs and the powerhouse soccer league, is set to debut in coming weeks. October 27th is slated as release day (paired with it’s initial first drop), and will feature some of the league’s biggest moments since 2005. The platform is expected to mirror the experience seen in Dapper’s other products, Top Shot and NFL All Day.
A College Quarterback’s $1M NFT NIL Deal
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is approaching $4M in NIL deals, courtesy of a new $1M NFT NIL deal established this past week with Metabilia. Over half the U.S. states have now established some sort of formalized NIL policy as universities look to find new avenues to recruit athletes, and athletes look at new avenues of compensation.
Ewers and Metabilia will launch a collaborative NFT project that will require a subscription fee to access drops and signed memorabilia. NIL territory is still very young for new platforms and projects to explore, and crypto and web3 firms haven’t shied away from doing so thus far.

Athlete-Backed & Avalanche-Powered ‘MynaSwap’ Raises $6M
NFL stars including Kyler Murray and Odell Beckham Jr. were a part of a recent fundraise for Avalanche blockchain-based sneaker trading platform, MynaSwap. The raise, totaling $6M, will go towards building out the digital collectibles platform that provides digital authentification for physical goods. The platform is founded by Adeel Shams, co-founder of sneaker shop Coolkicks (which has become an LA staple in the sneakerhead community).
Crypto.com Reportedly Turning Down The Dial On Sports Partnerships
Crypto.com is reportedly cutting back on sports sponsorship engagements as the exchange likely faces increased budgetary constraints in the bear market. While the exact scope is unknown, reports emerged in recent days that Crypto.com was looking to cut scope with sports partners such as the World Cup and Twitch Rivals. The exchange was once a leading force in sports sponsorships and is now likely seeing a major shift in spending as the bear market has persisted throughout this year.
MoonPay’s First Sports Foray
One name we haven’t mentioned in the Slice‘s history is MoonPay. Check that box this week as the crypto exchange secured it’s first-ever sports deal with Brazilian soccer club Flamengo. The two will look to have MoonPay lead the charge on a variety of NFT engagement, including ticketing, loyalty programs, and more.
Trail Blazers Cut StormX Jersey Patch Deal
The NBA’s first crypto jersey patch deal was established in the middle of last year, and despite being a multi-year deal that was established between the Portland Trail Blazers and young platform StormX, it’s coming to a quiet and unexpected close. StormX has largely underperformed in the broader crypto marketplace, and despite signing an athlete endorsement deal with former Blazer CJ McCollum back in November, the exchange is rarely mentioned when top crypto exchanges are discussed. The club’s reasoning behind cutting the partner, who’s jersey patch was featured in media day content in recent weeks, was undisclosed.
We’ll see where Portland turns to next for a patch deal, after donning a BioFreeze patch prior to the StormX deal. The Blazers join the Grizzlies and Wizards among clubs currently searching for a jersey patch partner.

As U.S. Midterms Near, Anxiety Rises In Kyiv Over Pro-Putin Republicans – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/as-u-s-midterms-near-anxiety-rises-in-kyiv-over-pro-putin-republicans-the-washington-post/
KYIV, Ukraine — As American officials pore over maps tracking developments in Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia, their Ukrainian counterparts are monitoring a different kind of contest back in the United States: the upcoming midterm congressional elections.
In Kyiv, Ukrainians voice hope, and some apprehension, that next month’s legislative polls won’t undercut the staggering flow of U.S. weapons and security aid that Washington has authorized since the start of President Vladimir Putin’s Feb 24. invasion. And they warn that a softening of Republican sentiment has the potential to sap a recent surge in battlefield momentum.
Uncertainty about future American support is intensifying as pollsters predict that Republicans will retake control of the House of Representatives. Some Republican lawmakers and candidates have expressed displeasure with giant aid sums, citing competing security concerns about China, domestic priorities, and the need for greater oversight.
Daria Kaleniuk, an anti-corruption activist who led a delegation of female Ukrainian fighters to Washington last month, noted that nearly all House Republicans had voted against a stopgap funding bill that included $12 billion for Ukraine.
“So it means that we are getting into this danger waters of making Ukraine a partisan issue, and support for Ukraine a partisan issue,” Kaleniuk said.
Fears, however tentative, that American support could falter, are creating a sense of added pressure in Kyiv.
A senior Ukrainian official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak candidly, said that Ukraine’s near-total dependency on foreign military and economic aid meant that its military must quickly recapture as much Russian-controlled territory as possible before any potential softening of Western support.
“The U.S. midterms are one of the factors that have us concerned about the winter,” the official said. “Russia will gain an advantage with the new Congress and with Europeans as they blackmail them on energy policy. That’s why the current offensive is so important.”
Other Ukrainian officials said they remained confident that U.S. assistance would continue.
Oleksander Zavytnevych, who heads the national security and defense committee of Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, said U.S. public support for Ukraine in the war remained strong nationwide despite the reluctance of some Republicans, and so he was not worried that U.S. help would drop off.
“Which politician does not support the opinion of his voter?” Zavytnevych said. “After all, the support provided by the United States is a certain strategic course” for America’s own security.
President Biden, in a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week, repeated his pledge that Washington would support Ukraine “as long as it takes,” suggesting a long-term campaign to supply arms needed to push Russian troops back from occupied cities and towns, and prevent Putin’s illegal annexation of four Ukrainian provinces from being carried out on the ground.
Since February, the Biden administration has sent Ukraine more than $17 billion of military aid, including missile systems and drones. The White House has frequently faced calls from lawmakers in both parties for faster and greater assistance, which, combined with ongoing appeals from Kyiv, helped yield an expanding supply of heavier, longer-range weaponry for the fight.
But as American consumers grapple with inflation and a slowing economy, polls indicate that fewer Republicans believe the United States has a responsibility to protect Ukraine. An August poll by Morning Consult showed that U.S. concern about the war has declined more quickly among Republicans than among Democrats.
For Ukrainians, the moment echoes the toxic political dispute over the Trump administration’s withholding of military aid to Ukraine, which culminated in the then-president’s 2019 impeachment. This time, Ukrainians are determined to stay out of the partisan crossfire.
“It’s not our business to discuss or to help somebody” in American politics, said Vasily Chaly, who served as Ukrainian ambassador in Washington from 2015 to 2019. “Our business is to keep a strong relationship with American people.”
Chaly recalled the intense debate over providing arms to Ukraine, then locked in a war with Russian-backed separatists in the eastern Donbas region, during his tenure in Washington. The sale of small arms began in 2015 and 2016 under the Obama administration. In 2017, the Trump administration authorized the provision of Javelin antitank missiles.
Since its start, largely bipartisan U.S. backing has defied the prevailing animosity in Congress.
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.), the senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee are among the Republican leaders on Capitol Hill who have championed military aid to Ukraine.
But other Republicans, including Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) and Roger Williams (R-Tx.), have expressed reluctance. Influential conservative pundits such as Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, meanwhile, have questioned where money for Ukraine is going and warned of ‘mission creep’ in U.S. support.
That has led even some Republicans to fret about the staying power of American support for Ukraine.
“I hope the safety and security aspect will win out,” said one Republican congressional aide. “But I think there is a question mark.”
While Chaly is among the Ukrainians pushing for sophisticated equipment including tanks and fighter jets, he said he empathized with some U.S. lawmakers’ focus on domestic issues.
“Every country should pay for health, for education, for the internal programs, for jobs — it’s absolutely understandable,” he said. “But if you do not secure your country and your people, you can’t think about development.”
Ukrainians also fear that Russia will use the election to chip away at the bipartisan support, potentially using strategies like those the U.S. government determined to be Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko suggested Russian media narratives and disinformation could be swaying American lawmakers to Ukraine’s detriment. “Of course I worry that some politicians don’t receive the right information,” Klitschko said. “Russians use the media so strong against the world.”
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last month posted, then deleted, a tweet that echoed Kremlin language and called for a halt to “gift-giving to Ukraine.” It later issued a statement reaffirming its stance on U.S. assistance. “We must oppose Putin, but American taxpayers should not be shouldering the vast majority of the cost,” it said.
Republican officials cautioned that the recent spending vote did not necessarily indicate a big reduction of support, noting that Ukraine aid was just one of the items the bill financed. They also said Republican support may be buoyed by Ukraine’s military gains or Russian atrocities and nuclear threats.
Oleksandr Kornienko, deputy speaker of the Rada, noted that Putin devoted much of a speech last week on his annexations to a long list of Russian grievances against the U.S. and the West, signaling his larger ambitions and animosity.
“But the war is happening in Ukraine, in the territory of Ukraine. Our people are dying,” Kornienko said. “Therefore, it is in the interest of the civilized world to continue helping Ukraine defeat Putin on Ukrainian territory … so that it does not spill over into Europe and other countries of the world.”
As U.S. assistance adds up, lawmakers of each party are calling for more robust oversight in hopes of averting the waste and diversion that characterized much of the enormous U.S. aid sums provided to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Ukraine is working to intensify accountability efforts, standing up a new parliamentary oversight body and organizing visits to weapons depots, according to Zavytnevych. So far, he said, there have been no substantiated complaints about diversion or misuse of foreign arms.
While they recognize what America’s election results may bring, Ukrainians continue to make the case for the global cost of inaction.
“What we can do as Ukrainians is just keep explaining to the world properly what Russians are doing,” said Kaleniuk, who heads an anti-corruption group. “If [we] are properly armed, we are able to win, and this war has to be won faster. Otherwise, it will cost too much for American people.”

War in Ukraine: What you need to know
The latest: Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees Friday to annex four occupied regions of Ukraine, following staged referendums that were widely denounced as illegal. Follow our live updates here.
The response: The Biden administration on Friday announced a new round of sanctions on Russia, in response to the annexations, targeting government officials and family members, Russian and Belarusian military officials and defense procurement networks. President Volodymyr Zelensky also said Friday that Ukraine is applying for “accelerated ascension” into NATO, in an apparent answer to the annexations.
In Russia: Putin declared a military mobilization on Sept. 21 to call up as many as 300,000 reservists in a dramatic bid to reverse setbacks in his war on Ukraine. The announcement led to an exodus of more than 180,000 people, mostly men who were subject to service, and renewed protests and other acts of defiance against the war.
The fight: Ukraine mounted a successful counteroffensive that forced a major Russian retreat in the northeastern Kharkiv region in early September, as troops fled cities and villages they had occupied since the early days of the war and abandon...

No. 7 Oklahoma St Hopes To Avoid Slip-Up Against Texas Tech – Midland Reporter-Telegram https://collincountynewsonline.com/no-7-oklahoma-st-hopes-to-avoid-slip-up-against-texas-tech-midland-reporter-telegram/
Oklahoma State is in prime position in the Big 12 race.
The Cowboys opened the conference schedule with a 36-25 road win over Baylor, the media’s preseason Big 12 favorite.
Now, the Cowboys face Texas Tech – a battle-tested group facing its fifth straight ranked opponent. The Red Raiders (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) already have wins over Houston and Texas, and they look forward to another challenge.
“We’re excited about it,” Tech coach Joey McGuire said. “It’s definitely helping us grow up as a football team and a football program. Our guys will be ready to play that game.”
Oklahoma State (4-0, 1-0) is riding quarterback Spencer Sanders’ elite play. He has 11 touchdowns passing and four touchdowns rushing to pace an offense that ranks fifth nationally with 47.8 points per game.
He’ll face a Texas Tech defense that believes in pressuring the quarterback. Linebacker Tyree Smith leads the way with 5.0 sacks.
“They’re going to come after us,” Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. “They’re going to blitz, stunt, twist, drop, rush three, rush four, bring safeties and do a lot of different things to try and pressure us. We have to get ready for lots of pressure and lots of blitzing.”
But the Red Raiders will need to be disciplined. Tech gave up 171 yards and three touchdowns rushing to Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez last week. Sanders can run, too – he has 185 yards on the ground this season.
“Spencer does a great job with his arm, but he also can beat you with his feet,” McGuire said. “So we’ve got to do a better job of containing the quarterback. Little bit different quarterback run game, but still can hurt you. Every bit as fast and athletic as the guy we just got through playing.”
Texas Tech’s offense is pretty good, too. The Red Raiders rank fourth nationally in passing offense with 362.2 yards per game.
“These guys are going to play fast, they’re going to spread out, they’re going to throw it 60 times and try to get the ball out to the flat,” Gundy said.
Donovan Smith leads the Tech offense. He has passed for 295 yards per game and has three rushing touchdowns. McGuire believes he’s a good player who has a chance to eventually play in the National Football League.
“He’s given us a chance to be in a lot of games,” McGuire said. “He’s a big guy that will step up and make some courageous throws.”
D-LINE DEPTH
Oklahoma State rotates an exceptional group of pass rushers.
Collin Oliver has three sacks and Tyler Lacy and Brock Martin have two. Kody Walterscheid and Trace Ford also are formidable. It’s a group McGuire called one of toughest defensive fronts in the country.”
Gundy believes that the depth at defensive end and on the defensive line overall might be helpful on Saturday.
“We’re getting into a game here where there very well could be 100 plays on both sides of the ball from the standpoint of we play fast and they play fast,” he said. “That depth could be important.”
RESPECT YOUR ELDER?
Gundy is 55 and McGuire is 51, but their resumes are much different.
Gundy is in his 18th year and has a career record of 153-69. McGuire is a first-time head coach trying to build something after spending the previous five years as an assistant at Baylor.
“If you think about coach Gundy, I mean he’s the guy that — we’re around the same age, but he’s kind of the old guy in the conference,” McGuire said. “What he’s been able to do year in and year out is pretty incredible.”
ONE-TWO PUNCH
Tahj Brooks and SaRodorick Thompson are quite the combination for Texas Tech. Brooks has rushed for 209 yards and four touchdowns and caught 19 passes for 105 yards and a score. Thompson has rushed for 223 yards and a touchdown and caught 10 passes for 58 yards and a score.
TOP RECEIVER
Oklahoma State’s Braydon missed most of last season with an injury, but the redshirt senior has returned with a bang. He leads the team with 360 yards receiving and is tied for the team lead with three touchdowns.
RING OF HONOR
Oklahoma State will add Bob Fenimore to its Ring of Honor on Saturday. The halfback nicknamed the “Blond Bomber” finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy vote in 1944 and third in 1945. He will join Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas.
The Chicago Bears chose Fenimore No. 1 overall in the 1947 NFL draft, and he was inducted into the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame in 1972.

A Time Of Courage – The Maritime Executive https://collincountynewsonline.com/a-time-of-courage-the-maritime-executive/
With its Ukrainian roots and focus on the seafarer, Danica is leading the way in finding and caring for qualified crews against a backdrop of war and an ongoing pandemic.
Jensen, second from left, with his staff in Batumi, Georgia (Danica)
Published Oct 9, 2022 10:53 PM by Tony Munoz
(Article originally published in July/Aug 2022 edition.)
“At the start of Danica Crewing Specialists, our primary base of mariners were Ukrainians, and our main office was in Ukraine,” says Henrik Jensen, Founder & Managing Director. “While our headquarters are in Hamburg, our biggest crewing office was in Odesa. Because of this terrible situation with the war in Ukraine, we have now opened an operational office in Limassol to act as a regional coordination center.”
The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022 when Putin announced his intention to demilitarize and “denazify” Ukraine. Immediately after the announcement, Russia launched missile and air strikes across Ukraine including on the capital of Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted martial law and a general mobilization of all male Ukrainian citizens between the ages of 18 and 60 and banned them from leaving the country.
The invasion has displaced almost 13 million Ukrainians with more than six million fleeing the country and another seven million leaving their homes and seeking refuge elsewhere. It also further aggravated a growing shortage of seafarers worldwide that had begun two years earlier with the onset of COVID-19.
Ukraine accounts for roughly 77,000 seafarers – 47,000 officers and 30,000 ratings. Russian and Ukrainian mariners together account for about 14 percent of officers and 15 percent of ratings, a significant proportion of the world’s approximately two million seafarers. Crewing ships had already been a challenging situation because of COVID-19 as crews were subject to travel restrictions and were often quarantined onboard for months beyond IMO statutory limits.
“Any industry where 15 percent of the workforce more or less falls out will have a problem,” says Jensen. “Even owners not using Eastern European crew will feel a knock-on effect as owners traditionally using Ukrainian and Russian crew turn to other nationalities.”
There are other problems as well. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is overwhelming shipping companies’ ability to hire seafarers. Since the war began it’s become difficult for Russians to obtain travel visas and get paid due to Russian bank sanctions, and it’s problematic to mix Russian and Ukrainian crews. Several shipping companies have declined to hire Russian seafarers entirely.
The stress on Ukrainian mariners has been tremendous because many of their families have fled the country or been forced to relocate. Many do not want to return to Ukraine and have extended onboard contracts. Ukrainian national marine licenses have been extended, but no new licenses are being issued, which is affecting job opportunities for Ukrainians.
In the meantime, the Ukrainian maritime authorities have established a system where Ukrainian seafarers can now undertake online the necessary courses and exams to renew their certificates when their five-year cycle expires. In addition, the Polish maritime administration has established a system for extending Ukrainian certificates.
“When the war broke out, about 60 percent of Ukrainian seafarers were onboard,” Jensen explains. “A few of them wanted to return home immediately when the war started to join the army or be with their families, but the majority stayed onboard, and when their tenure came to an end they asked to stay longer. In general, shipping companies were able to cope, including Danica. However, in the past few months the situation has changed. Many of the Ukrainian seafarers’ families have been able to leave the country and are now in the E.U. As soon as their families are out of Ukraine, the seafarers onboard want to join them. This is of course understandable, but now it creates a shortage of relievers while other relievers are still not able to leave Ukraine.”
With the growing shortage of professional mariners, salaries for onboard personnel are rising quickly, and there are no quick solutions due to the professional licenses required to meet the IMO’s STCW certifications along with logging verifiable time at sea.
A Different Kind of Company
“Our ambition is to be the crewing partner for demanding shipping companies,” says Jensen, “those with high standards and high expectations, and to deliver crews who can fulfill our clients’ business goals.”
To do so, the company employs one of the strictest screening procedures in the business, especially for senior officers, and offers leadership training courses for officers and safety training courses for ratings. It screens candidate backgrounds, authenticates licenses and verifies sea service including navigational skills and knowledge. It charts the candidate’s behavior and ability to communicate and interact with other crew members, which is critical for successful ship operations.
Asked if Danica is the world’s biggest crew supply company, he replies, “No, and we will not be. There are not enough crews who can pass our strict pre-employment screening process.”
Jensen grew up in a seafaring family in Denmark. Both of his grandfathers were professional mariners, and his uncle was a marine pilot. During summer vacations from school, he would join his uncle on pilotage voyages in the Denmark fjords and deep-sea waters, which sparked his interest in becoming a deck officer and ship’s captain.
He served as an officer on container ships, bulk carriers and ferries and eventually took command of seismic vessels. When not sailing, he earned advanced degrees in business organization and human resource management.
Eventually, he came ashore with the opportunity to work as a safety superintendent and crewing officer for the seismic company. He went to Greece to oversee operations for a Danish-Greek ferry and soon became the fleet director and managing director for another Danish ferry company. He spent nine years with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement in Germany, rising to Group HR-Marine Manning Director.
In 2009 he cofounded Nordic Hamburg Shipmanagement and in 2013 founded Danica Crewing Specialists. His years of hands-on experience managing crews and fleets made it clear that there was a need for quality recruitment and manning services, for a company that was independently owned and acted entirely on behalf of its customers.
“We are not a ship manager,” Jensen emphasizes. “Our focus is to be the HR (human resources) partner for our clients, who are typically shipowning companies with their own in-house technical management but with a fleet size that does not have the economies of scale to have their own recruitment offices, screening, logistics and training. We are their extended arm or department.”
Today, the company has eight offices in six countries and a network of more than 350,000 officers and ratings. It has long been recruiting in the Philippines, India and Indonesia. While looking to open more offices, the pandemic put further expansion plans on hold. But it did open an office in Batumi, Georgia recently and – in addition to transferring much of the Odesa operation to Limassol – has partnered with a crewing company in the Philippines.
Blue Water Crisis
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, more than 2,000 seafarers were stranded on 94 vessels at Ukrainian ports. The IMO and several governments insisted that the Russian Federation honor the “blue safe maritime corridor” in the high-risk areas of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Russia deferred, saying it would establish a humanitarian corridor once ships were outside Ukraine’s territorial waters.
Today, Ukrainian ports are at MARSEC (maritime security) level 3, which means the ports will remain closed for entry and exit or that ships sail at their own peril. Sea mines have been laid at port approaches and ports blocked with sunken barges and cranes. Many ships in the region no longer have sufficient crew onboard to sail.
“We still have about 1,000 Ukrainians, mainly senior officers, deployed now,” Jensen says. “There are still Danica employees and crew in distress in Ukraine, many of whom have lost their properties and possessions. Meanwhile, our company supports these employees and their families, even those who have escaped to other countries.”
While the Russians have signed an accord to allow grain ships to sail from Ukraine and through the Black Sea, there is massive congestion of vessels near Sulina and Bystre, south of Snake Island, trying to transit through Romania to the Danube. Officials estimate it will take months to get ships moving again. Meanwhile, IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim and international aid organizations have been trying to reprovision ships, which need vital supplies for stranded seafarers in the Black Sea region.
A Time of Courage
There are currently around 75,000 commercial ships in the world trading fleet totaling 2,095 million deadweight tons, which has doubled since 2007. By 2025, the world fleet will exceed 80,000 ships, and the demand for licensed mariners will continue to increase.
Added to the war in Ukraine and the ongoing pandemic, that presents a real challenge for companies like Danica. Where will the seafarers come from?
“That’s a very valid question,” he says, “and it worries me a lot. Seafaring has been an attractive career for decades in the main sourcing countries. A career at sea offers challenging jobs, great responsibility, and a steady and relatively high income – indeed for senior ranks in some countries even an extremely high salary. However, IT companies and big engineering companies are also in the market to recruit the same young talent, also offer...

Massive cleanup efforts continue in the wake of Hurricane Ian.
Across Florida, volunteers and organizations from North Texas are on the ground in Florida. At home, a local business owner has raised thousands of dollars for hurricane victims.
Leon Brown of Lancaster is the driving force behind a social media mission to help victims of Hurricane Ian.
“If you look around my shop, shelves are empty, and the racks don’t have clothes on them. People have been coming through,” said Brown, Founder of We Are the Help.
His nearly 90,000 Instagram followers have helped raise $10,000 for 100 Florida families.
“One family, Bree and Marcus Smith stopped by from Fort Myers, Florida. They were heading to El Paso, and they were able to stop inside here and get some clothes. That’s the family we were able to bless with $500,” said Brown.
Bree and Marcus Smith spoke to NBC5 about the generosity they experienced on their drive from Florida to Texas, where they’re now staying with family friends.

“That was a blessing. We were able to get down to El Paso, and that was able to cover food and gas for us,” said Bree Smith.
Their Fort Myers home is flooded, and they don’t yet know the extent of the damage.
The couple is grateful they could reach out online, and receive help from Leon – just when they needed it most.
“My message is: Allow people to help. Put your pride aside, because this is the time that we all need to lean on each other,” said Bree Smith.

Victoria University & Western Bulldogs Community Foundation Funded By Movember’s Scaling What Works – Mirage News https://collincountynewsonline.com/victoria-university-western-bulldogs-community-foundation-funded-by-movembers-scaling-what-works-mirage-news/
In 2021 Movember launched Scaling What Works, an AUD $10.38 million mental health funding program that aims to supercharge mental health initiatives that have shown real promise in improving mental health and wellbeing for young boys and men, across community or workplace settings.
With a focus on prevention and early intervention, each of the successful recipients receives between AUD $250,000 and $500,000 of funding over the next two years, allowing them to scale their reach and impact, in an effort to fast-track mental health outcomes in local communities.
One of the successful global recipients of Movember’s global Scaling What Works Program is Victoria University’s collaboration with the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation (WBCF) Sons of the West program, which aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of men in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities with interactive presentations, physical activities, and events.
The free, ten-week health program supports mental health and wellbeing outcomes for men aged 18 years and over, with face-to-face literacy programs that build knowledge about a range of topics including nutrition, gender equity, masculinity and mental health.

Padres Knock Out Mets Joe Musgroves Ears Checked In MLB Playoffs USA TODAY
Padres Knock Out Mets, Joe Musgrove’s Ears Checked In MLB Playoffs – USA TODAY https://collincountynewsonline.com/padres-knock-out-mets-joe-musgroves-ears-checked-in-mlb-playoffs-usa-today/
On a night the New York Mets could barely touch Joe Musgrove, the biggest whiff came from Buck Showalter.
Facing elimination in Game 3 of their National League wild card series, the Mets manager ordered umpires to check Musgrove, the San Diego Padres right-hander who’d shut them out for five dominant innings, for foreign substances on his face and equipment. It is a rare act for a manager – rarer still in an era umpires check pitchers’ hands regularly after innings – and took on an air of desperation with the Mets trailing by four runs and their season on life support.
Before the bottom of the sixth could begin, the umpiring crew scoured Musgrove’s face, ears and equipment for sticky substances and found nothing.
Which is exactly what the Mets got off Musgrove.
Musgrove took a perfect game into the fifth inning and pitched seven shutout innings, quieting a Citi Field crowd and sending the faithful home for the winter as San Diego eliminated the Mets, 6-0, on Sunday night.
The Padres will advance to the NL Division Series against the Dodgers, as they did in 2020 before succumbing to L.A. in the bubble-contested playoffs that year. The Mets, who won 101 games but lost the NL East title in the season’s waning days, will go home pondering how to improve on a club that sported a franchise-record payroll that approached $290 million.
They didn’t go down swinging but rather by commissioning a search party to undress Musgrove, Showalter either believing Musgrove’s elevated spin rate and dominance resulted from foreign substance use – or at least wanting to plant that thought in the Padre’s head.
Either way, he was wrong on both fronts. Umpiring crew chief Alfonso Marquez conducted a relatively intimate check of Musgrove’s face and ears as the pitcher maintained a poker face.
All clean.
“I’ve seen him do it before,” Musgrove said of Showalter in a postgame TV interview. “I get it; they’re on their last leg, they’re desperate and it is what it is.
“It motivated me a bit. It fired me up. An opportunity to stick it to them, a little bit.”
Musgrove then returned to the business of dominating the Mets, granting them just one harmless single and a walk in his seven innings. After pitching a scoreless sixth, he couldn’t resist wiping sweat/something from under his nose while glancing at the Mets’ dugout. He later tugged on his ear, driving the point home further.

Musgrove made history himself, becoming the first pitcher in playoff history to complete seven shutout innings with less than two hits in a winner-take-all game. His resentment toward Showalter is rooted in decades of baseball protocol, in which demanding a substance check is considered questionable gamesmanship, unless a team has been tipped to a player’s abuse. The practice did not gain steam even as the use of so-called “sticky stuff” grew in prevalence and aided in pitchers’ spin rate, velocity and movement.
When Major League Baseball announced that in June 2021 it would begin checking pitchers after at least their first inning of work, spin rates declined across the game. And just one manager – then-Phillies skipper Joe Girardi – demanded an extra on-field check when he asked umps to check then-Nationals starter Max Scherzer, who grew indignant at Girardi after umps ran their hands through his thinning mane.
Showalter seemed to telegraph his intentions, noting in a pregame production meeting with ESPN’s broadcast crew that Musgrove’s spin rates had increased. His numbers in Sunday’s Game 3 were elevated, as well, although possibly not beyond what the adrenaline of a high-stakes game might produce.
Showalter said he felt “kind of bad about” casting aspersions on Musgrove, but that the club was “privy” to spiking spin rate averages and that he’s “charged with doing what’s best for the New York Mets. If it makes me look however it makes me look, I’m going to do it every time and live with the consequences.”
Said Padres manager Bob Melvin: “Joe Musgrove is a man of character. Questioning his character is what bothers me. The reception he got after that was not warranted. I just want everybody to know he’s a high-character individual.”
Showalter should have known he wasn’t checking a young buck; Musgrove pitched the lone no-hitter in Padres history and appeared in far higher-stakes games, most notably earning the win in relief in Game 5 of the 2017 World Series, a 13-12 thriller that keyed the Houston Astros’ seven-game conquest of the Dodgers.
Sunday night, Musgrove came up even cleaner and now, the San Diego native will be slated to start a Game 4 at Petco Park against the Dodgers.
And Showalter’s tactics will be remembered ignominiously – not the sheen around Musgrove’s ears.
E& Takes Its First Step Into The Metaverse – ZAWYA https://collincountynewsonline.com/e-takes-its-first-step-into-the-metaverse-zawya/
DUBAI: e&, formerly known as Etisalat Group, is set to enthral stand goers at GITEX Global 2022 by inviting them to enter the next digital universe with the soft launch of their virtual world, e& universe. This move marks a significant achievement in the Group’s transformation journey to a global technology and investment conglomerate, as it takes its first steps into the metaverse.
Hatem Dowidar, Group CEO, e& shares his views on why telcos must adopt the metaverse in enhancing customer experience and boosting digitalisation journeys of enterprises.
Metaverse technology may be in the early incubation stages, given that it needs high-bandwidth and low-latency communications to work at scale. Still, telcos must consider harnessing its potential for the betterment of lives, whether it is a virtual playground or shopping destination, or even using it as a training ground for smarter, more efficient AI and industrial manufacturing processes. To get it to work at the grand scale we all envision will require robust connectivity solutions. This is where 5G becomes the fulcrum, given that mobile networks may not be able to handle the metaverse network demands.
According to a report by Ericsson, 5G is a critical enabler for the metaverse and its entire ecosystem as it has global reach, including roaming capabilities. For the cloud and edge-cloud (MEC) capabilities of the metaverse, 5G also offers low latency, offload processing and enhanced render level of detail (LOD).To harness the power of the metaverse, telcos must expand beyond their traditional capabilities and more towards embracing a growth mindset where they are open to exploring innovative ideas. In fact, telcos can play a more prominent role in the metaverse value chain by leveraging emerging technologies such as 5G, edge cloud, analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In fact, there are endless opportunities that telcos can level in the metaverse domain such as:
• Cloud computing services – Edge computing is one of the foundational stones in the metaverse, and telcos are in a prime position to provide edge computing services so as to unlock more efficient data transfer, lower the load of network congestion and also add another revenue stream in the process.
• Human interface hardware – Telcos can drive the adoption of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications used for optimal interaction in the metaverse. These could be through the bundling of VR devices and connectivity services and go further in adopting an end-to-end (E2) device lifecycle management approach.
• Advanced analytics or AI – Now more than ever before, telcos have access to a variety of data points. More so, in the metaverse, they can use these Big Data insights to improve decision-making. The data could also help them in using customer-and operations-related insights to use advanced analytics and AI to bolster revenues.
• Connectivity provider – With the generational shift from 5G to 6G as we approach 2030, this will further the adoption of the metaverse in daily life. Telcos can play a part in addressing network capacity and efficiency-related issues as metaverse requires robust fibre connectivity, which delivers high-bandwidth speeds.
• Metaverse platforms – As the metaverse platforms will evolve from a series of various virtual worlds created individually by companies, there will come a time when a super virtual world will be formed. By investing in emerging metaverse platforms, telcos will have the upper hand in building the in-depth technical expertise required to create the metaverse of the future.
• Cybersecurity, privacy and trust – Individuals and enterprises remain concerned about their digital footprint and data integrity. As data custodians, telcos are seen as a trusted partner by customers in keeping their private data safe. And so, telcos could consider leveraging their current customer relationships and position themselves as ‘identity management experts’.
Telcos will also be required to partner with technology giants, internet tech companies, specialist cloud providers, device manufactures, technology platform providers as well as online game developers so that they can create a partner ecosystem for developing a solid metaverse ecosystem. In that way, telcos can become the orchestrators of the metaverse ecosystems by identifying collaborative opportunities with involved parties.
Based on the limitless possibilities that are available in metaverse adoption and in line with our commitment to digitally empower societies, we are taking a significant step forward into the metaverse this GITEX Global by announcing the launch of e& universe, hosted virtually in Arcadia Planitia on Mars.
Alongside, we have had two other major showcases: the Metaverse Service and etisalat by e&’s business centre. The Metaverse Service is a metaverse platform designed to maximise user experience through multiple virtual spaces and avatars. This was a result of the collaboration with SK Telecom, the largest mobile operator in Korea, to explore media and entertainment. Through our third metaverse showcase, etisalat by e&’s business centre showcase is in collaboration with Huawei, where e& is demonstrating the future of retail using a 3D retail experience in an innovative way.

Gold prices ticked lower on Monday, having shed nearly 1% in the previous session, as strong U.S. jobs data cemented the view that the Federal Reserve would continue its policy of aggressive interest rate hikes.
Fundamentals
Spot gold was down 0.1% at $1,693.19 per ounce, as of 0100 GMT, while U.S. gold futures were down 0.4% at $1,703.4.
The dollar index was steady, having touched a one-week high on Friday, dimming gold’s appeal for overseas buyers.
U.S. job growth slowed moderately in September while the unemployment rate dropped to 3.5%, pointing to a tight labor market, which keeps the Fed on its aggressive monetary policy tightening campaign for a while.
Rising U.S. interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding the non-yielding gold, while boosting the dollar, in which the precious metal is priced.
New York Federal Reserve President John Williams said on Friday the U.S. central bank has more work to do to lower inflation and rebalance economic activity in a more sustainable way, and he warned that the unemployment rate will most likely rise as part of that process.
Focus will now be on U.S. inflation data due on Thursday.
Data on Friday showed inflation’s tightening stranglehold on the German economy, with a surge in import prices and drop in industrial output and retail sales adding to signs that Europe’s biggest economy is heading for recession.
Physical gold prices flipped to a discount in India last week as elevated local rates amid a dive in the rupee dampened festive demand, with higher prices playing spoilsport across other Asian hubs as well.
Holdings of SPDR Gold Trust, the world’s largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, fell 0.21% to 944.31 tons on Friday.
Spot silver fell 1.7% to $19.76 per ounce, platinum was down 0.8% at $905.20 and palladium was steady at $2,182.44.

Best Travel Fishing Rods 2022 Buyers Guide Wired2Fish
Best Travel Fishing Rods – 2022 Buyer’s Guide – Wired2Fish https://collincountynewsonline.com/best-travel-fishing-rods-2022-buyers-guide-wired2fish/
Choosing the best travel fishing rods for anglers who like to pack light and carry a fishing rod in their luggage on every where they travel requires a little planning and knowledge of the options and fish you think you might encounter on your travels. We reviewed a wide gamut of rods and came up with a lot of options to consider as well as some great recommendations for which fishing rods we would suggest for a lot of different types of fishing and travel.
Things like size of the rod when disassembled, number of pieces, rod case, roll or bag, type of rod, how you will transport it, whether a telescoping rod makes sense and more need to be considered before choosing the best travel rod for your fishing plans.
Travel rods usually come in 2-piece up to 5-piece options not to mention the telescoping travel rod options out there. You might want to fit the rod in a suitcase, if so more pieces will break down into a smaller footprint. Or you might carry it with you which might give you more options for rods. You might want a hard case to protect the rod if you’re worried about TSA or some other party damaging your rods in transit. Or a rod wrap may suffice if it’s tucked inside of another hard case suitcase or thrown in your fishing kayak. You might need to consider how you will transport your spinning reels and baitcasting reels.
(1 of 20)
Know Your Travel Rods
Then there are the types of rod to consider including spinning travel rods, casting travel rods, telescoping travel rods as well as travel fly rods or specialty rods like travel swimbait rods or travel trout or panfish rods. Or any combination of the aforementioned.
If you plan to fish with light lures and light line, then a spinning travel rod might be the best option. If you plan to look for big bluegills or crappies specifically on your travels, then a long telescoping rod might make more sense or a small spinning rod like a trout rod might give you a lot of options for trout and panfish.
If you’re going for larger quarry, you will want a beefier rod that has a reel that can hold heavier line. Usually a baitcasting travel rod makes sense for bass, or big fish like walleye, pike, musky, stripers, etc.
Specialty rods like travel swimbait rods or extra long jigging rods might be just the ticket for probing unknown waters for specific types of fishing like jigging brush for crappie or casting oversized swimbaits for trophy bass and stripers.
Of course if you’re in to fly fishing, then a travel fly rod is hard to beat. There are some super high end and middle of the road options that are great rods that make a 9-foot fly rod fit into an over night travel bag with the travel fly rod option.
CONSIDER TELESCOPING RODS FOR TRAVEL
For some, a telescoping rod is an easy spur of the moment travel rod option to probe some nearby waters to see if they have fish available. I have buddies that keep telescoping rods in their trucks at all times and will break it out on their travels or while taking a lunch or after work on a work trip. It’s a quick and simple option.
Most of time telescoping rods are a bit lower quality. Or at least that was the case back when the only option was a low end push button spin cast combo for small panfish. There are, however, some newer options bringing this back as a real viable option for bass and panfish.
(2 of 20)
A Travel Combo Might Make More Sense
You can buy travel rods that are a rod and reel combo. This is often the case with telescoping options. But there are some better quality options in the multi-piece travel rods with a decent spinning reel. Most of the time. I want the best rod I can get and a good reel in my bag so I’m not fighting my equipment in the limited amount of time I get to fish on my travels. Especially those spur-of-the-moment unplanned fishing trips while traveling.
But when you get to a location and wished you had a rod and reel, a decent priced telescoping rod/reel combo can get you in the fish on an unexpected hot spot quickly and easily.
(3 of 20)
You Need a Travel Rod Case, Bag or Roll
Anymore your travel rod is going to come in a hard case, a roll or a bag. Regardless you need to take care to protect the pieces of the rod or the rod while it is compartmentalized so it’s not damaged in your travels.
A hard case might be a cloth case with a hard shell inside of it that zips closed on the end and the multiple pieces slide into little sleeves inside of it. Or it might be a hard outer shell with a soft interior that keeps your guides and blank parts protected. These are nice when you plan to carry your travel rods separate from your luggage. Or keep them in a vehicle on your travels.
A travel rod roll is just a cloth sleeve with individual pockets for each piece of the blank and then you roll it up with flap that closes on one end and tie it off with the attached ties. These can be nice for putting a rod or two into your other travel bags or a small compartment in your vehicle.
A travel bag can be just a cloth bag or a padded foam bag that houses and protects the rod simultaneously. I’m a fan of these as they keep your pieces from falling out as sometimes happens with rolls. And they keep the blank pieces with a bit of added protection. The padded bags are ideal in my opinion.

Best Travel Rod Brands
In the freshwater space, the best travel rod makers are often synonymous with the best rod makers. Makers like Daiwa, Shimano, St. Croix, Megabass, Ark Rods, Fenwick, and others have really solid travel rod options. Others that many don’t know offer travel rods have good options like Favorite, Bass Pro, and BnM Poles.
Here are the travel rod brands we reviewed and liked:
Shimano
Daiwa
St. Croix
Megabass
Ark Rods
Fenwick
Sixgill
Bass Pro
Favorite Fishing
B’n’M Poles
Ugly Stik
Hardy
Orvis
Having said all that, let’s take a closer look at some of our personal favorites in various travel rod categories.
(5 of 20)
Best Telescoping Travel Combo
Daiwa Travel Combo
We chose the Daiwa Travel Combo as the best combo because it comes with a good reel, telescoping rod that is better than most and it’s own sling carry bag that is big enough to put several travel rods and reels in. This combo compacts down to 26 inches making it a perfect option for any trip whether it be in a car or a plane.
The rod is a 7-foot, 2-inch Medium power fast action rod. It’s a solid rod and stayed extended as we fished with it. The reel is a 2-bearing Daiwa Crossfire LT 2500. Even though it’s only 2 bearings, it performed very smoothly and effortlessly with a very smooth drag. It’s a solid spinning combo and it’s offered in EVA or Cork grips.
The combo costs $149 but if you just want a good combo without messing around with pairing rods and reels, this is a quick easy choice.

Best Travel Rod for Bass
Shimano Zodias Travel Rod
The fact that Shimano took one of their best rod lines and converted it into a high-end bass travel rod got me excited. And when I got the new rod in my hand, I was very impressed. I am a big fan of the original Zodias line and was so excited to see this level of quality in a 5-piece travel rod.
This travel rod condenses down to 19 inches when packed, meaning you can literally take it anywhere. And when full assembled you have a very high quality rod full of all the features of the high end one-piece blanks. The 5-piece construction gives the rod more uniform bend than a 2-piece model would.
It has so much power and a steady consistent load when casting. You will forget it’s a travel rod by your second cast. It’s a high end rod that just happens to be in 5 pieces. It has a CI4+ reel seat for lightweight strength and a full carbon monocoque grip which eliminates the use of EVA giving a light rod more sensitivity.
Hi-Power X construction which makes the blanks outermost layer wrapped with carbon tape form that X appearance on the blank that gives more precise actions to the rods with more strength.
You can really lean into fish with this rod without worry. It’s one of the nicest travel rods we’ve tested.

VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS OCTOBER 9 – VietNamNet https://collincountynewsonline.com/vietnam-business-news-october-9-vietnamnet/
Wood pellets, made from compressed sawdust and forestry wastes, have become a key currency earner of the wood industry, having the great potential to rank in the group of export staples with turnover of over 1 billion USD.
Vietnam’s wood pellet export value was just about 145 million USD in 2017 and surged to 413 million USD in 2021.
Close to 2.4 million tonnes of the product were shipped overseas in the first half of 2022 for approximately 354 million USD. If the growth is maintained at the current rate, the export turnover may hit around 700 million USD for the entire year.
In particular, the product’s export price increased sharply between January and June to an average of nearly 150 USD per tonne, more than 27% higher than the average price in 2021.
The use of by-products to make the pellets helps wood factories raise incomes, offsetting the high price of imported raw materials. Currently, Vietnam houses about 300 pellet production facilities, which have solely exported to Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK).
According to the Association of Vietnam Timber and Forest Product (Viforest), raw materials used in the production are those almost discarded during the processing of wood products. However, they can be turned into a cash cow business.
Ministry envisages two scenarios for Viet Nam’s 2022 GDP growth
Viet Nam’s GDP growth may reach 8 percent for 2022 in the best-case scenario, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Meanwhile, in another scenario, as the nation has to face unpredicted difficulties and obstacles, the economy may expand 7.5 percent for the whole year.
Viet Nam’s GDP accelerated to 8.83 percent growth in the first nine months this year, the highest rate over the same period since 2021, the General Statistics Office reported last week.
The economy expanded 13.76 percent in the third quarter compared to 7.72 percent in the second quarter and 5.05 percent in the first quarter.
Survey: Around 60% of credit institutions count on high interest rates in last quarter
Up to 59-61 percent of credit institutions expect deposit and loan interest rates to continue to increase in the fourth quarter of 2022, specifically an increase of 0.37 percentage points on average.
The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) has just announced some critical results of a survey on business trends of credit institutions and foreign bank branches in Viet Nam in the fourth quarter of 2022, and the response rate was 96 percent.
According to experts, the number of credit institutions expecting to increase interest rates will undoubtedly be higher than the 59-61 percent above. In fact, from the beginning of October until now, more banks have increased the deposit interest rate schedule.
Four state-owned commercial banks, including Vietcombank, VietinBank, BIDV and Agribank, officially participated in the race to increase deposit interest rates. Meanwhile, an interest rate of nearly 9 percent/year appeared on the market for the certificate of deposit products.
About 66-69 percent of credit institutions expect an average interest rate increase of 0.56-0.57 percentage points in 2022, whereas only 8-10 percent forecasted interest rates to decrease, the SBV’s survey shows.
On that basis, credit institutions predicted that both marginal interest rates and service fees would grow slightly in the fourth quarter and the whole year.
According to credit institutions’ assessment, customer demand for loans, payment services and cards and deposits in the third quarter of 2022 continued a sustainable recovery since the fourth quarter of 2021, in which the demand for loans improved the most.
Regarding pre-tax profit in 2022, 88.3 percent of credit institutions expected positive growth compared to 2021. Besides, 6.8 percent of credit institutions predicted negative profit growth in 2022, and 4.9 percent estimated their profit would remain unchanged.
ADB helps enhance sustainable transport for Ha Noi Metro Line 3
The ground breaking ceremony of a project on strengthening sustainable urban transport for Ha Noi Metro Line 3 (or Nhon-Ha Noi Railway Station metro line) project was held in Ha Noi on October 7.
The ground breaking ceremony of a project on strengthening sustainable urban transport for Ha Noi Metro Line 3 (or Nhon-Ha Noi Railway Station metro line) project takes place in Ha Noi, October 7, 2022
The project, jointly funded by Ha Noi People’s Committee and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aims to ensure smooth transport to approach the metro line, making sure that people use the metro line in a safe and convenient manner.
It will also support Ha Noi’s climate change mitigation efforts in adopting a low-carbon transport growth path, which is more energy efficient and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
Besides, the project will provide infrastructure for improving accessibility to Metro Line 3 stations, implement feeder bus links, a public transport management system, integrated multi-modal stations with “park and ride” facilities, as well as a comprehensive parking plan for the city.
It has the total investment capital worth US$54.75 million, including US$48.95 million from the ADB’s Clean Technology Fund (CTF).
The project has three components spanning the six districts of Nam Tu Liem, Bac Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Ba Dinh, Dong Da and Hoan Kiem.
The Nhon-Ha Noi Railway Station metro line, the second route after Cat Linh-Ha Dong in the capital city, is slated to run 12.5 kilometers from Nhon in Nam Tu Liem District to the Ha Noi Railway Station in the downtown area.
It will include 8.5 kilometers on elevated tracks and four kilometers underground.
The project will be fully completed by 2027.
Official export of agricultural products by rail should be promoted
The General Department of Vietnam Customs and the Ministry of Finance proposed to quickly upgrade some railway stations into international transport stations and switch to officially exporting agricultural products by rail because of its quick and low-cost transportation.
The General Department of Vietnam Customs, on the afternoon of October 7, informed the press that, due to the prolonged influence of China’s zero-Covid policy, over the past few months, the volume of imported and exported goods through the Northern border gates between the two countries has continuously declined.
The volume of goods passing through customs clearance at border gates is in drops and totally depends on the announcements of the Chinese authorities, although trade facilitation measures and the establishment of green zones and buffer zones at border gates have been deployed by localities.
In the past two years, the Government, ministries, and agencies have strived to implement many solutions to facilitate trade and promote customs clearance of goods, especially agricultural products. Up to now, many agricultural products of Vietnam have switched to official export, but the implemented solutions have not really solved the difficulties.
Up to now, the General Department of Vietnam Customs has worked with the Vietnam Railways Administration and the Vietnam Railways and conducted surveys at Kep and Sen Ho train stations in Bac Giang Province, studying the possibility of arranging customs officers at these stations if they are upgraded to international train stations.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, electronic customs procedures have been implemented. Facilities, equipment, and human resources have also been fully equipped to ensure customs clearance procedures for import and export goods through the railway border gates fast and conveniently. However, the transport capacity, cargo loading/unloading services, and infrastructure at train stations have not yet met the increasing trend of transporting import and export goods by rail.
HCMC moves long-haul bus routes to new station
All 79 inter-provincial routes, except those running through National Highway No.13 – Ho Chi Minh Road, will be moved from the old Mien Dong coach station in Binh Thanh District to the new station in Thu Duc City on October 11.
According to the HCMC Department of Transport, these 79 routes have nearly 1,700 vehicles, accounting for more than 50% of the total routes operating at the old Mien Dong coach station.
It is expected that the new station will have 100 long-haul operating routes to serve passengers on October 11. Previously, the station had 22 routes running from Quang Tri to the north of Vietnam.
The transportation entities shifted to the new station will not be allowed to pick up and drop off passengers at the old Mien Dong coach station in Binh Thanh District.
The Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (Samco), the main investor of the station, and Mien Dong Station Co, ltd have been required to supervise their operations and ensure they comply with the regulations.
More ticket counters will be set up at the new station to meet the transport units’ requirements.
In the first six months of 2022, the bus station only serves an average of 47 passengers daily.
Lai Chau Airport may be invested in with PPP
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has just sent an official dispatch to the prime minister and Lai Chau People’s Committee on the investment in Lai Chau Airport, which is to be constructed under the public-private partnership (PPP) format.
In this dispatch, the MoT said that if the state budget capital for infrastructure investment is not enough, the ministry agrees to assign Lai Chau People’s Committee to be the competent agency to study the plan of mobilising resources for building Lai Chau Airport under the PPP format.
After ensuring all the planning conditions, the provincial committee could actively work with relevant agencies to implement the next procedures and report to the competent authorities for permission to deplo...

The Sunday slate of games in Week Five of the NFL season got off to a great start. The New York Giants narrowly defeated the Green Bay Packers 27-22. Don’t look now, but the Giants are 4-1.
A clutch pass breakup by safety Xavier McKinney on the Packers’ final 4th down secured the victory. The Giants’ social media team must have had a feeling that McKinney was going to play a major role in today’s win.
Before the game, they posted a video of the third-year player walking into Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. All eyes were on McKinney’s feet. Below is everything you need to know about his icy blue Nike kicks.

McKinney wore the Nike Dunk Low in the ‘Dark Marina Blue’ colorway. The shoes were released on December 1, 2021, for $100. They now have an average resale price of $174, according to StockX.

The shoe features a Dutch Blue leather upper with Dark Marina Blue overlays. The white leather Swoosh logos, Nike tongue labels, and white midsoles complete the clean look.
Luckily for fans, there are other similar colorways. The Nike Dunk Low ‘Argon’ is almost indistinguishable. Just make sure you buy the shoes from trusted resale websites like StockX, GOAT, or eBay.
After today’s win in London, the Giants should be taken seriously. We can’t wait to see what McKinney and his teammates wear before next week’s home game against the Baltimore Ravens. Stay locked into FanNationKicks.com.

Over And Above Innovation: PandaMR Launches Its Metaverse Newswire
Over And Above Innovation: PandaMR Launches Its Metaverse – Newswire https://collincountynewsonline.com/over-and-above-innovation-pandamr-launches-its-metaverse-newswire/
New Metaverse platform starts its journey.
Press Release – Oct 9, 2022 21:00 EDT
DUBAI, Arab Emirates, October 9, 2022 (Newswire.com) – PandaMR launches its Metaverse, a next-generation platform filled with features to help users get started in the new era of the Internet.
It is available in the most user-friendly interface and will be open for any individual or company to establish their presence in the new digital realm.
The concept of a metaverse has been relevant since the early 90s as a universal platform for all kinds of activity transferred into the virtual realm. Today’s metaverses could possibly be the level-up of the Internet with features that we need but don’t realize yet.
PandaMR’s metaverse is a web- and mobile-based platform. Right now, there are four main directions that the company is concentrating on: Business, Art, Education and Entertainment. The goal is to provide an adequate environment for each of these industries and develop tools that are necessary for these industries to stay in the Metaverse for a long time.
PandaMR positions itself as the “guide” for businesses to navigate through the Metaverse.
In the dedicated “Business Bay,” companies can organize onboarding and hiring processes, have internal meetings, plan corporate gatherings, hold conferences, and more. Thus, companies can stay one step ahead of the competition with little effort thanks to their future-proof investment in the metaverse experience.
The “Education Hub” enables educational entities to establish virtual learning environments for engaging sessions.
For creative people, in just a few easy steps, the Art District provides artists with every chance to display their works.
“Many companies and individuals have heard about Metaverse, nevertheless most of them need additional guidance to make their first steps into the digital realm. We do the hard work of educating businesses and communities on how to get value from using metaverse solutions, and we do this with great enthusiasm and creativity,” said Vahe Khachatryan, Commercial Director at PandaMR.
One may find an abundance of complex currencies which could be overwhelming. The NFT market and cryptocurrency sectors will be an option for PandaMR, with a lot of emphasis on diversifying payment methods and smoothing user experience.
PandaMR extends a warm welcome to all newcomers and asks partners and metaverse aficionados to join efforts to build a Metaverse community that will be the driving engine for developing virtual solutions.

UGreen PD200W GaN Charger Review – Absolute Geeks https://collincountynewsonline.com/ugreen-pd200w-gan-charger-review-absolute-geeks/
Smartphones these days don’t come with the chargers in the box. This means that most people need to get a new charger. Imagine if you could have a hub that charges all your devices. That’s where the UGREEN PD200W 6-Port GaN USB-C Charger comes in.
Ports and Device support
The PD200W comes with 4 USB-C ports and 2 USB-A ports. This means you can theoretically charge upto 6 devices at a time.
Each port is labeled as you can see in the picture. C1 to C4 for the USB-C ports and A1 & A2 for the USB-A ports. It’s actually quite simple and is important for choosing the right port for the right device. More on this below.
Who has 6 phones lying around? Even for a family of 4 that’s a bit of stretch.
The cool thing with the PD200W is that it can charge your MacBook as well as your tablets.
The total power output of this GaN charger is 200W. That doesn’t mean each port has that limit. Here is the breakdown of the max output per port:
C1/C2: 100W max
C3/C4: 65W max
A1/A2: 22.5W Max
That’s not all, this handy device also supports the following charging standard:
PD 3.0/2.0, PPS, QC4+(QC4.0/QC3.0), SCP, FCP, AFC, APPLE 5V2.4A, BC1.2
You can see which ones apply to your devices and celebrate the joy of not having to buy separate adapters per device.
You can check out the complete list of supported devices on the product page here:
https://amzn.to/3LHSTsA
What’s in the Box
The UGREEN PD200W comes with the following:
UGREEN PD200W 200W USB C Charger
2m Detachable Power Cord
1m 100W USB C to C Cable x 1
Not only do you get to replace 6 chargers in one go, you also get a USB-C cable in the box.
The true genius in the design here is that the power cable is detachable. Which means if you are traveling to a country with a different power socket, you can just get a wire that suits that, no need to carry a multiplug or extension cord.
How is the UGREEN PD200W?
In terms of design, I have always been a fan of UGREEN’s design. They have taken boring, mundane, devices that are meant to be hidden away and make them look sleek and elegant while also keeping them understated. After all, you don’t want to actually “see” these devices. Brilliant all around.
In terms of usability, this one is a no-brainer.
The fact that they even thought of using a removable power cable is brilliant industrial design.
For me personally this adds a great deal of flexibility. I can easily hide the charger under my desk in the drawer, and route the cables nicely, only 1 cable going to the power outlet, and the rest all run through my drawers. A beautiful solution to wire management.
Another advantage is that you can easily disconnect the PD200W and take it on a trip.
It also means that if the power cable fails, you don’t need to replace the whole device.
Sadly when connecting an Apple Watch, you can’t use the other USB-A port, as this causes the Apple watch to disconnect. It’s a small issue, but hey it’s still 1 charger to charge them all.
What is GaN?
If you are wondering what GaN is, then this next section is for you.
GaN stands for Gallium nitride. It has quickly become the leading material used in chargers from some of the top brands that make fast, long lasting and efficient chargers.
One of the main advantages of GaN is that it is far more efficient at generating and transmitting electricity. This produces less heat than traditional chargers, leading to two immediate benefits. First is that components should generally last longer, less heat means less potential damage. Secondly, less heat means parts can be packed closer together, which is why you can get a 6 port 200W charger in this relatively small package.
The Ugreen PD200W 200w charger claims to increase power consumption rate of 95% with the GaN II technology, which means less power wastage.
Other Specs:
The 6 port PD200W weighs 518g, which isn’t light, but given that it saves you from carrying 6 chargers (including your laptop charger) it more than makes up for it.
The dimensions are: 10.08cm x 10.08xm with a height of 3.23cm.
The exact model of this review is 40913.
Summary
We can highly recommend the UGreen PD200W GaN 200w 6port USB-C charger.
The number of devices it supports along with the smart design choices means it is a no-brainer for someone who has multiple devices and wants a clean setup.
If you’re looking to change your chargers, this is one of the best devices for the job.

Mad Moneys Jim Cramer Wants Crypto Investors To Bet Against Him I Have Done This For 42 Years Featured Bitcoin News Bitcoin News
Mad Money’s Jim Cramer Wants Crypto Investors To Bet Against Him — ‘I Have Done This For 42 Years’ – Featured Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://collincountynewsonline.com/mad-moneys-jim-cramer-wants-crypto-investors-to-bet-against-him-i-have-done-this-for-42-years-featured-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
The host of Mad Money, Jim Cramer, has challenged crypto investors to bet against him. “You do not do this for 42 years and lose money every year,” he said. His statement followed a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for “Inverse Cramer ETF.”
Jim Cramer to Crypto Investors: Bet Against Me
The host of CNBC’s Mad Money show, Jim Cramer, challenged cryptocurrency investors to bet against him in a tweet Friday. Cramer is a former hedge fund manager who co-founded Thestreet.com, a financial news and literacy website.
While discussing the Advanced Micro Devices stock (Nasdaq: AMD), he wrote: “As always I welcome people betting against me. I have done this for 42 years. Those who know me know that you would have been betting against Apple at $5, Google since inception, Meta at $18, Amazon at $10, Nvidia at $25, and AMD at $5. I welcome all comers.”
Cramer then followed up with another tweet about crypto. Noting that he bought a farm with his bitcoin profits and a boat with ether gains, the Mad Money host proceeded to challenge crypto investors: “I want you to bet against me. You do not do this for 42 years and lose money every year.”
Many people have been attacking Cramer for making recommendations that resulted in losing trades.
Last year, he praised Ark Investment Management CEO Cathie Wood just before her flagship fund plummeted. He also tweeted a buy recommendation for AMC Entertainment Holdings just before the stock plunged 30%. The Mad Money host also said in April last year: “We like Coinbase to $475.” At the time of writing, Coinbase Global (Nasdaq: COIN) is trading at $67.
‘Inverse Cramer ETF’ Prospectus Filed With SEC
Cramer’s tweets followed a prospectus filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by Tuttle Capital Management for two exchange-traded funds (ETFs) — Inverse Cramer ETF and Long Cramer ETF. The filing explains:
The Inverse Cramer ETF (the ‘Fund’) seeks to provide investments results that are approximately the opposite of, before fees and expenses, the results of the investments recommended by television personality Jim Cramer.
Tuttle Capital Management also previously launched an ETF betting against Cathie Wood’s stock picks.
Cramer became a fan of bitcoin in 2020 after he spoke with crypto investor and entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano, who convinced him to buy some BTC. The Mad Money host then began advising investors to put 5% of their portfolios in bitcoin. However, concerns over the Chinese bitcoin mining crackdown, ransomware attacks, and tether (USDT) made him dump his BTC for ether in June last year.
A few months later, he begged crypto investors to take profits. In October, he said he invested in crypto because “there could be millions of greater fools out there.” In June this year, he said bitcoin could fall to $12,000 and in August, he recommended avoiding crypto and other speculative investments altogether.

Faux Foie Gras And Slammed Metaverse Plans — Startup Europe, The Sifted Podcast – Sifted https://collincountynewsonline.com/faux-foie-gras-and-slammed-metaverse-plans-startup-europe-the-sifted-podcast-sifted/
Listen to Startup Europe — The Sifted Podcast on Apple, Spotify and all major platforms.
Missed the Sifted Summit — or just miss it already? No problem. This week we recorded the pod live from the event.
Tune in to hear from Herman Narula, cofounder and CEO of Improbable, which builds technology to make large-scale, simulated virtual worlds. He had a spring in his step after raising a fresh $100m funding round, and slammed Mark Zuckerburg’s metaverse plans live on the main stage.
From the podcast stage, we chatted about Parisian cultivated meat startup Gourmey’s €48m raise. We also discussed the close of SISTA, a €100m fund based in France that will invest money into early-stage startups with at least one woman cofounder.
We also talked to special guest — and Sifted contributor — Tessa Clarke about her waste sharing app Olio and whether all startups can help with the green transition.
