US EMALS Aircraft Launch System Being Prepped For New French Carrier Business Insider
US EMALS Aircraft Launch System Being Prepped For New French Carrier – Business Insider https://collincountynewsonline.com/us-emals-aircraft-launch-system-being-prepped-for-new-french-carrier-business-insider/ France is making plans to build a next-generation aircraft carrier to replace Charles de Gaulle. The new carrier will have the same aircraft launch and recovery systems as the US’s newest carriers. The new French carrier is expected to enter service in 2038 and remain there until at least 2080. In September, US defense firm General Atomics announced that it had received a contract from the US Navy to continue its development and evaluation of its Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and Advanced Arresting Gear in preparation for their potential sale to France. It is the latest development in France’s ambition to build a new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, a project known as the Porte-Avions de Nouvelle Génération, sometimes called PANG, which translates to “New Generation Aircraft Carrier.” The yet-to-be-named ship will replace France’s current carrier, Charles de Gaulle. PANG will be considerably larger than its predecessor and will grant the French navy the prestige of operating a “supercarrier” — a distinction held by only a few navies. Charles de Gaulle French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. Reuters Launched in 1994 and commissioned in 2001, Charles de Gaulle replaced France’s two Clemenceau-class carriers, Clemenceau and Foch, which were decommissioned in 1997 and 2000, respectively. (Foch was sold to Brazil and was in Brazilian service until 2018). Charles de Gaulle is currently the French navy’s flagship. It is 858 feet long and displaces some 42,000 tons fully loaded. It’s manned by a crew of 1,350 and an air wing of 650 personnel. It can also embark 800 troops. It is the only non-US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the world. Its two K15 pressurized water reactors give it a top speed of about 27 knots and a range limited only by its crew’s endurance. It is also the only non-US carrier to use catapults to launch aircraft, a system known as Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery. Sailors prepare an F/A-18F for launch during testing with Ford’s Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System in January 2020. US Navy/MCS3 Zachary Melvin Its catapults are shorter versions of those used aboard US Navy Nimitz-class carriers. “An American officer is present among the crew of the aircraft carrier to ensure the maintenance interfaces,” Adm. Pierre Vandier, chief of staff of the French navy, said of Charles de Gaulle in July. “For the future aircraft carrier it was also decided to go for American equipment, which will be electromagnetic catapults and electromagnetic arresting gear,” Vandier told Naval News, adding that there would be “similar cooperations” with the US “to support the ramp-up in operational power and to ensure the maintenance of these catapults.” De Gaulle can sail with an air wing of up to 40 aircraft, though it is usually composed of 30 Rafale M fighters, two E-2C Hawkeye airborne early warning and control aircraft, and a combination of NH90, AS565 Panther, and AS365 Dauphin helicopters. Charles de Gaulle in the Red Sea in April 2019. US Navy/MCS3 Skyler Okerman In addition to its air wing, Charles de Gaulle has four eight-cell Sylver VLS launchers that can fire MBDA Aster 15 surface-to-air missiles and two six-cell Sadral launchers for Mistral anti-air missiles. Charles de Gaulle’s first combat deployment was during Operation Enduring Freedom, during which its aircraft flew some 700 sorties against Taliban targets. In 2011, the carrier helped enforce a no-fly zone over Libya. Charles de Gaulle has also been very active against ISIS, launching airstrikes against targets in Iraq from the Persian Gulf in 2015 and in support of the liberation Mosul while in the Mediterranean in 2016. This year, it helped reinforce NATO’s presence in the Eastern Mediterranean following Russia’s attack on Ukraine. PANG Capt. Paul Lanzilotta, Ford’s commanding officer, briefs French Rear Adm. Eric Malbrunot on Ford’s flight deck design in April 2021. US Navy/MCS3 Zack Guth Though France has traditionally operated two carriers simultaneously, it never built a counterpart for Charles de Gaulle. There were plans for a carrier modeled on the British navy’s Queen Elizabeth class, but they were canceled in 2013. In 2018, however, France’s armed forces minister said a new effort to replace Charles de Gaulle was underway. In December 2020, French President Emmanuel Macron officially unveiled the program. The PANG will be a significant upgrade over Charles de Gaulle. It will be about 984 feet long and displace some 74,000 tons, putting it on par with the other active “supercarriers,” which usually displace over 65,000 tons. Like its predecessor, the PANG will be nuclear-powered, using two K22 reactors, each capable of generating 220 megawatts. (The K15s each generate 150 megawatts.) French officials say the reactors will enable the navy to project power abroad while reducing emissions. The PANG’s air wing will be larger than Charles de Gaulle’s and is expected to include at least 32 fighters as well as an undetermined number of support aircraft, helicopters, and drones. Charles de Gaulle with US warships in the Red Sea in April 2019. US Navy/MCS3 Skyler Okerman In addition to the Rafale M, the air wing is expected to include the naval variant of the New Generation Fighter, a sixth-generation fighter jet being jointly developed by France, Germany, and Spain. Eventually the entire PANG air wing will be composed of NGFs. The PANG will also feature EMALS and AAG — the same systems used by the US Navy’s Gerald R. Ford-class carriers. EMALS uses linear induction motors instead of steam, making it more efficient and able to launch fixed-wing aircraft more smoothly and at much faster rates. EMALS has been a headache for the US Navy, but recent changes have increased the system’s reliability. The Navy said in July that EMALS and AAG aboard USS Gerald R. Ford had conducted 10,000 aircraft launches and recoveries. Construction of the PANG is planned to start in 2025. Its first sea trials are expected to be in 2036, followed by commissioning in 2038 — the year Charles de Gaulle is expected to leave service. Once commissioned, the PANG will replace Charles de Gaulle as the French navy’s flagship. It is expected to be in service until at least 2080.

Media Enhancing Digital Technology Is Here To Stay: Sherlock – Solomon Times Online https://collincountynewsonline.com/media-enhancing-digital-technology-is-here-to-stay-sherlock-solomon-times-online/ Mr Sherlock emphasized that it is incumbent on the media to quickly embrace and adapt to the changes in digital trend to continue to remain relevant through the dissemination of news and information to the masses. Monday, 10 October 2022 09:40 AM Whether we like it or not, media enhancing digital technology is here to stay and is vastly changing the media landscape the world over. Although traditional forms of media such as radio, TV and Newspaper continue to remain relevant to certain sectors of our society, digital trends such as websites, social media, on-demand videos and audios are on the rise. This sentiment was expressed by Grant Sherlock, the Managing Editor of ABC News Digital during his presentation to members of the local media on the theme “New Digital Audience”. He stressed that all we need to do is to embrace and adapt to the changes so that the local media continues to remain relevant and in par with global media practices. Mr Sherlock emphasized that it is incumbent on the media to quickly embrace and adapt to the changes in digital trend to continue to remain relevant through the dissemination of news and information to the masses. He mentioned that he is happy with the pace at which the local media expands into digital technology although there is still room for improvement in certain segments of the local media fraternity. He however acknowledged that there are lots of questions about how digital platforms can make you money and this is an area where media organizations can re-strategize to ensure that they do not succumb to the challenges. “It is encouraging to particularly note that even in organisations without a digital presence, photography and stories suitable for digital platforms are taken and written,” he said. He identified that Facebook is key to reaching new audiences in the Solomon Islands because of its wider coverage and usage. “Perhaps one of the interesting features of the local media is the fact that it has teams with skills that need only to be built on or redirected to work for digital,” Mr Sherlock stressed. He further stated that In-spite of the digital change, it is heartening to note that radio and print will continue to be needed long into the future for certain segments of the audience. The ABC digital expert went on to say that the fact that most of the digital responsibilities fall to a few people, needs improvement to avoid disruption to business. Mr Sherlock acknowledged that the local media is limited by the availability of equipment to make digital content mostly due to cost and to some extent, the skills and know-how. “It is sad that editorial teams are young and it’s common for people to move to PR early perhaps for better pay and conditions,” he said. He cautioned that it is high time that media organisations re-strategize to accommodate the changes in digital technology to ensure they remain relevant. An obvious observation and simple statement, but that hurts L.A.’s chances of coming back.  Pinned I’m not an Xs and Os god, but the Rams are totally working underneath on every passing down. I wonder if Stafford’s arm/elbow is ok. I’m also wondering about his confidence at this point.  Pinned Things have slowed down a bit now. A couple punts after a couple touchdowns. Pretty impressive fake punt from the Rams, as the 12-yard pickup gives L.A. a fresh set of downs. Two minute warning just hit, so we will see if the Rams can score their second touchdown of the game.  Pinned Pinned GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU GIVE THE FOOTBALL TO TONY POLLARD. 57-yard touchdown, are you kidding me? New Rooms Coming To Wilderness Lodge Villas! Disneytouristblog.com
New Rooms Coming To Wilderness Lodge Villas! Disneytouristblog.com
New Rooms Coming To Wilderness Lodge Villas! – Disneytouristblog.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/new-rooms-coming-to-wilderness-lodge-villas-disneytouristblog-com/ Walt Disney World has released a look at the new rooms coming to the original Wilderness Lodge DVC villas and announced details about the room refurbishment project. This post shares concept art, photos of the fixtures and furnishings, the timeline for work, my commentary, and more. Disney originally revealed these room renovations for the Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge way back in December 2019 at the Disney Vacation Club Condominium Association Annual Meeting. During that, DVC indicated that Boulder Ridge was receiving a “full refurbishment” in 2020. Per that schedule, Grand Floridian was set to receive a minor refreshes last year and the Polynesian and Beach Club Villas would each receive soft goods refurbishments in 2022. Obviously, a lot changed only a few months after that meeting. Walt Disney World paused construction projects for months, and was slow to restart them–including at the resorts. While that delay played a role, the bigger cause of delay was prioritization of the Polynesian and Grand Floridian projects, which were deemed more urgent for several reasons. In any case, the overdue and much-needed Boulder Ridge Villas room reimagining was placed on the backburner. Disney Vacation Club leadership emphasized that this project was time slated to occur, and permits were filed over the summer. Finally, work started to happen within the last few weeks. Oddly enough, it hasn’t been officially announced by Walt Disney World nor is there a construction advisory on the official site for the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This isn’t entirely unprecedented. Earlier this year, Disney closed the Garden Wing of the Contemporary for the ‘Incredibles Injection’ room redos, and never announced anything. Regardless, the Boulder Ridge project is currently scattered across a handful of rooms on the fourth floor and fifth floor, with a range of room types represented. It’s unclear whether this these are test or model room reimaginings occurring ahead of the project getting started at full speed. Adding to the oddness, Disney isn’t keeping this overhaul a total secret. Concept art flashed on-screen at the D23 Expo last month and there’s now a two-page spread with more artist renderings and photos in the Fall 2022 issue of Disney Files magazine. This project is a big deal for DVC Members and fans of Wilderness Lodge, so it’s a bit weird that Disney isn’t publicizing it more. We’re here to do exactly that, starting with a look at the concept art and details DVC released in Disney Files… This fall, crews will begin refreshing accommodations at Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (the lodge’s first Disney Vacation Club Resort, which opened in 2000). Updated kitchens (including new, single-height island countertops with stools), bathrooms, living spaces (including behind-the-sofa, fold-away beds) and more will give Deluxe Studios, and 1- and 2-bedroom villas a more vibrant – though still whimsically woodsy – look. Refurbishment work will take place in waves, with the first wave scheduled for completion by this winter, and all accommodations aiming for completion by Spring 2023. Here’s a sneak peek at what else is in store. In 1- and 2-bedroom villas, vibrantly colored patterns along the bottom of living room drapes and vases displayed on built-in shelves flanking new pull-down beds are among the many places in the re-imagined living spaces to spot hidden Mickeys. Goofy practices the perfect cast while Mickey tries to keep up with Pluto in one of the new pull-down bed’s two custom works of art. Among the new details are wilderness travel posters framed in the dining area of 1- and 2-bedroom villas, placing Mickey and friends in wilderness settings with names that make us smile, from “Whispering Canyon” (a nod to a restaurant next door at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge) to “Lake Elias” (with Elias being Walt Disney’s middle name, and his father’s first name). Main bedrooms in 1- and 2-bedroom villas have their own treasure to discover, from such Disney fan-familiar places as Grizzly Peak (of Disney California Adventure fame) included in drapery map patterns to Chip and Dale elegantly silhouetted on a throw pillow. Donald Duck and his nephews hike through the woods on artwork adorning the fold-away bed behind the Deluxe Studio sofa. When opened, the bed reveals artwork of the nephews fast asleep while Uncle Donald makes a misstep at Geyser Point. Mickey and Minnie explore the water-filled wilderness in a mural above the main bedroom’s bathtub and in framed bedroom artwork. On the kid-sized bed tucked beneath the Deluxe Studio TV, there’s more art–a forest on the outside and Chip ‘N Dale mural on the inside. Attached to the hidden kid-size bed is a set of built-in drawers and a pair of neatly tucked stools, adding more storage and seating to Deluxe Studios. Vibrantly colored Deluxe Studio headboards feature both sconce lighting and reading lights. As we’ve previously mentioned, we saw the model room almost two years ago, and it’s substantially similar to this concept art. The layout and poster art was identical, with the biggest differences that I can recall being in some of the furniture and upholstery colors, patterns, and textures. The big thing is that this emulates the approach of the Saratoga Springs and Riviera rooms, which were more recently replicated at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Villas. No surprise there, as Disney Vacation Club leadership previously indicated this would be the new room blueprint going forward. Functionally, we have zero criticism about this decision. If there’s one thing that Imagineering really got right with Disney’s Riviera Resort, it’s the rooms. Those designs make significant strides in space-saving design, while adding innovative features like the pull-down Murphy sleeper that is somehow both a comfortable couch and a comfortable bed. Those new rooms seem like the culmination of a lot of lessons learned by DVC over the last decade–iterating on past successes and disregarding past failures–into something that coalesces perfectly. Disney Vacation Club has even indicated that guest satisfaction scores have increased by 20% among guests who have stayed in new rooms at Saratoga Springs. If anything, this undersells the functional improvement of those rooms–they’re much more than 20% better than their predecessors. (That’s not quite how guest satisfaction scores work, but still.) When it comes to their substance, the new rooms coming to Boulder Ridge will be an unequivocal upgrade over the current rooms. There’s no question whatsoever about that. I’m also cautiously optimistic these new rooms will offer thematic enhancements. The style of the Copper Creek studios was a mixed bag for me, with too much of a mismatched style meant to give it a cottage or cabin feel. It got a bit too contemporary and cutesy, with an inappropriate shabby chic look. These Boulder Ridge rooms look much more cohesive, with Disney art set in the great outdoors and featuring classic characters (I love the nods to the Junior Woodchucks). Although not directly referenced, there’s a lot that evokes the U.S. National Parks (all of the art, including the poster style) and Native American culture (patterns on the carpet, throw pillows, drapes, and vases). All of this gives the room a lot of textural depth and personality, while never being overly busy or chaotic. The rooms still look relatively relaxed and subdued, with calming colors. (About the only exception to this is the multicolor headboard in the Deluxe Studio–they jury is still out on that one.) This is also without taking into consideration the current rooms at Boulder Ridge, which are really showing their age. If you want a better idea of how the current Boulder Ridge rooms look, below is our room tour video: Personally, I don’t mind the current rooms at Boulder Ridge. They’re older, a bit tired, and lacking the usability improvements of their newer counterparts, but they have thematic integrity and are appropriately rustic. There are obvious improvements that could be made, but they’re better than many resorts. I’m almost certainly in the extreme minority with this view, but I’d take the current rooms at Boulder Ridge over those at Copper Creek. The latter are superior from the perspective of functionality, but feature an aesthetic that is trying a bit too hard to be chic and trendy. With that said, I’d hazard a guess that most Walt Disney World guests favor Copper Creek’s rooms by a wide margin. I’m also guessing that the current rooms at Boulder Ridge have become a liability, depressing the resort’s popularity. One thing we’ve discussed recently is how the “secret has gotten out” about Wilderness Lodge. It went from having a fan following and great discounts–but not much mainstream appeal–to one of Walt Disney World’s most hard-to-book hotels and one that often is undiscounted. Part of this is probably the crowd-pleasing new rooms (pictured above) and the addition of Storybook Dining at Artist Point. Another thing I’ve noticed in the last couple of years thanks to sales data from our friends at DVC Resale Market is Boulder Ridge’s comparatively lower prices. It’s the least expensive Disney Vacation Club resort at Walt Disney World on the secondary market, with both Old Key West and Saratoga Springs ahead of it. Not only is Boulder Ridge the lowest-priced DVC resort at Walt Disney World, but its average resale price offers the biggest percentage savings over buying direct, at 40% off. (That’s $81 off per point!) Moreover, the per point difference between Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek is a massive $44. Of course, a big part of the disparity between Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek is that the former expires in 2042 and the...

Everton Vs. Manchester United Result, Highlights And Analysis As Cristiano Ronaldo Seals Victory With 700th Club Goal – Sporting News https://collincountynewsonline.com/everton-vs-manchester-united-result-highlights-and-analysis-as-cristiano-ronaldo-seals-victory-with-700th-club-goal-sporting-news/ Manchester United battled back from a goal down to defeat Everton 2-1 as Cristiano Ronaldo achieved another moment of history. The Red Devils were humbled 6-3 by Manchester City last Sunday and started this match at Goodison Park in inauspicious fashion, Alex Iwobi scoring after just five minutes after Casemiro lost the ball. United levelled through Antony, who struck his third goal in three Premier League appearances after being played in by Anthony Martial. The France striker went off shortly afterwards with an injury, meaning Ronaldo was summoned from the bench. The Portugal great made a telling impact, sweeping a low finish beneath Jordan Pickford following Casemiro’s pass for his 700th career club goal. Marcus Rashford had a third goal disallowed in the second half but United withstood an aerial onslaught from Everton to claim the three points. MORE: Cristiano Ronaldo goal scoring record: List of all-time top scorers though totals are up for debate The Sporting News is providing live commentary, highlights and analysis from the match Everton vs. Manchester United result   1H 2H FT Everton 1 1 1 Manchester United 2 2 2 Goals: 5 mins — Iwobi (assist: Gray) 15 mins — Antony (assist: Martial) 44 mins — Ronaldo (assist: Casemiro) This match was pushed back to 7 p.m. local time as United had been in UEFA Europa League action in Cyprus on Thursday. That day, they found themselves a goal behind after dominating the first half before going on to win, and they left themselves with work to do once more on Merseyside. Casemiro, starting his first league match, was robbed of the ball by Amadou Onana in his own half, Demarai Gray laid it off to Iwobi, and the former Arsenal man curled a lovely finish out of David de Gea’s reach from the edge of the box after only five minutes. United responded well to their early set-back and were level 10 minutes later. Onana was this time guilty of dawdling in possession and the visitors countered, with Martial feeding Antony to sweep home in style. Martial’s outing ended soon afterwards as he trudged off the field and down the tunnel, apparently injured again. Ronaldo replaced him, and promptly made his mark, racing through and firing beneath Pickford after Casemiro tackled Iwobi and fed his former Real Madrid team-mate. 700 – Cristiano Ronaldo has scored the 700th club goal of his career, 20 years and 2 days after his first goal. 5 – Sporting CP 118 – Man Utd (1st spell) 450 – Real Madrid 101 – Juventus 26 – Man Utd (2nd spell) Icon. pic.twitter.com/cGKEjVdOLD — OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) October 9, 2022 Everton had conceded the fewest goals of any Premier League side before this match, but they had also only scored seven times in their first eight games. There was no lack of endeavour from Frank Lampard’s men, but creating clear-cut chances against a resolute United defence proved difficult, as crosses from deep seemed their only viable tactic. Rashford stole in front of Iwobi, hurdled a James Tarkowski challenge and found a way around Pickford to score what he thought was the killer goal, but a VAR review deemed the ball had struck his arm after deflecting off Tarkowski in the build-up. If the decision was harsh, it didn’t shake United’s focus. Onana had a half-chance with a header and Pickford went up for some late corners, but the Red Devils held firm to go fifth in the table. Ronaldo shows enduring class after more Martial woe Martial had been in brilliant form in preseason before injury restricted him to just 45 minutes of football in United’s opening six league games of 2022/23. He got two goals off the bench against City and another at Omonia, earning a starting spot here and duly assisting Antony for the equaliser. A new injury, this time with his back, ended his involvement. Martial’s misfortune was Ronaldo’s gain. The Portugal veteran took his chance with aplomb and generally led the United line well, winning a good header for what should have been a third from Rashford. Was it enough to convince Ten Hag to put him back in the first XI? It probably should be. Ronaldo x Antony pic.twitter.com/qWjWqMnJVQ — Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) October 9, 2022 Casemiro takes charge after early jitters Ten Hag had suggested last week that Casemiro needed time to adjust to life in the Premier League. Losing the ball to go a goal down after just five minutes of your full debut in the competition wasn’t a great way to prove the United manager wrong. It marked a peculiar first half for Casemiro, in which it sometimes felt like he was intentionally giving the ball away only to show how good he is at winning it back. That was never more apparent in the lead-up to Ronaldo’s goal, when Casemiro made a mess of a pass, quickly tackled Iwobi and played a perfectly weighted throughball.  His positioning in the second half was consistently strong, though, and it was part of the reason Everton were forced wide to attempt hopeful crosses that yielded hardly any clear chances. It’s hard to see him being left out of the starting line-up much longer. United show mettle to finish gruelling week The humiliation of the 6-3 at Man City, the long trip and surprisingly tricky game in Cyprus, and a physical battle at a wet and cold Goodison Park made this a trying week for United. Ten Hag was pleased enough with how it ended, particularly after they fell behind for the third time in seven days. “The reaction of the team [to going behind] was good. That was one of our aims: to deal better with set-backs,” Ten Hag told BT Sport. “Especially first half, they were pressing well. “It’s difficult here. Seven games unbeaten, difficult to score against them… and we scored two. So, that’s good.” For United to see off Everton’s aerial assault in the second half with little more than a scare from an Onana header was testament to their strong defending, especially with Raphael Varane only fit enough for a late cameo. They should have made more of their chances to score a third and kill the game off — Rashford was unfortunate to see his disallowed — but this, cliched as it may sound, was a test of character for Ten Hag’s men. They passed. 100 – @ManUtd have become the first side to win 100 Premier League games in which they conceded the first goal: 100 – Man Utd 96 – Spurs 85 – Liverpool 84 – Chelsea 79 – Arsenal Temperament. pic.twitter.com/zf7XDcHung — OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) October 9, 2022 MORE: Omonia vs. Man United result, highlights & analysis Everton vs. Manchester United commentary, highlights FULLTIME: United battle to a 2-1 victory over Everton! Iwobi gave the hosts the lead but first-half goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo got the Red Devils on top. Rashford had a third disallowed, and the visitors had to survive a bit of an aerial onslaught, but the three points are theirs. 90+3 mins: Pickford goes up for an Everton corner and Varane just nods the ball out of the Toffees keeper’s reach! What a moment that could have been. The home side have two more corners, United hold firm… and it’s all over! 90+1 mins: De Gea makes a crucial save! Was it a shot or a cross from Garner? It’s hard to say, but De Gea leapt to his left to claw the ball away as Onana looked to get a head on it. The corner ends up bouncing off a blue shirt and behind for a goal kick. Ten Hag is bringing on Raphael Varane for these closing moments, with Antony making way. 90 mins: Half a chance for Onana! Gray gets the ball in from the right and Onana rises relatively unchallenged, but he can’t direct the header on target. We’re into four minutes of injury time here… 89 mins: Everton are battling hard but United’s defence is sound and they keep the ball for a couple of minutes. Iwobi then launches another cross from deep into the box but Lindelof, again, is there to head away. McNeil then tries a delivery from almost the same square of turf, and De Gea catches. 86 mins: Scott McTominay, on as a sub, goes into the book for catching Gray. Pickford launches the free-kick forward but Onana’s header drifts out for a goal kick. 84 mins: That was unfortunate for Rashford, who couldn’t really do much about the ball bouncing up and touching his arm. Considering Gianluca Scamacca had a goal allowed for West Ham against Fulham today in similar circumstances, it makes the decision a bit of a harsh one. Still, it’s certainly given the home crowd a lift for these closing minutes. 81 mins: GOAL FOR UNITED — no! It’s disallowed! Rashford thought he had scored United’s third but a VAR check has ruled the ball struck his arm in the build-up as he hurdled a challenge from Tarkowski. The score remains 2-1 to the visitors. 78 mins: United have really struggled with their passing in this half and it’s giving the Everton crowd some belief, although the home side are still finding it tough to create chances. Garner’s first impact for Everton is a sore one for Fernandes as he stands on the toe of his old team-mate. 74 mins: Half a chance for Eriksen, who is teed up by Ronaldo but blasts over the bar with his left foot. Rashford then tries his luck with a half-volley but doesn’t catch it right. We’re about to see Calvert-Lewin for the hosts, along with James Garner, the former United midfielder. 72 mins: Onana gets his head on a corner but it’s too high. At the other end, Fernandes and Rashford combine but the latter’s cross is cut out by Pickford. 70 mins: It’s been pretty scrappy this half as the rain has got heavier. United keep giving the ball away but they’re restricting Everton to largely hopeful crosses. Ten Hag will certainly want his side to find a third goal to make things a little more ...

OpenSea Hit In Ongoing Crypto Exec Exodus As CFO Resigns – Cryptopolitan https://collincountynewsonline.com/opensea-hit-in-ongoing-crypto-exec-exodus-as-cfo-resigns-cryptopolitan/ TL;DR Breakdown OpenSea’s chief financial officer Brain Roberts has resigned. Monthly volume and unique users on the NFT marketplace have fallen over recent months. Crypto executives are increasingly leaving their positions amid the bear market. The past few months in the cryptocurrency industry have been marked with a disturbing number of executive resignations, and OpenSea has just become the latest firm caught in the wave. OpenSea’s CFO resigns The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at OpenSea, Brian Roberts, has stepped down from his position in the NFT marketplace. Roberts joined OpenSea in December 2021, marking ten months of active service in leading and growing the finance team at the largest NFT marketplace.  Well it is time for me to come ashore from the “open seas.” I’m grateful for the opportunity and proud of many accomplishments but none more than the strength of the finance team at OpenSea.” Brian Roberts. Although Roberts ceases to become OpenSea’s CFO, he intends to assume an advisory role at the NFT marketplace. The current Vice President of Finance, Justin Jow, will reportedly take over the wheel as Chief Financial Officer.  “I remain incredibly bullish on web3 and especially OpenSea. The company is heads down building and I assure you, the best is yet to come,” Roberts added. Crypto bear market forces more exec departure Roberts’ departure comes as OpenSea records a significant decrease in market interest and trading volume. According to DappRadar, OpenSea’s monthly volume is currently over 7% to $245 million. Additionally, the number of unique wallet addresses interacting with the protocol has also declined by 4.12% to 258.23k.  Generally, interest in NFTs and cryptocurrencies are currently down owing to the bear market and uncertainties around the global economy. Amidst these events, many cryptocurrency companies have seen their executives resign, including Algorand, Alameda Research, Kraken, Celsius, etc.  In late September, the President of FTX.US Brett Harrison announced his resignation 18 months after joining the exchange. Similar to Roberts, Harrison intends to stay at the exchange as an advisor.  Ibiam Wayas Ibiam is an optimistic crypto journalist. US: BMW Set New Plug-In Car Sales Record In Q3 2022 – InsideEVs https://collincountynewsonline.com/us-bmw-set-new-plug-in-car-sales-record-in-q3-2022-insideevs/ The BMW Group (BMW and MINI) reports a slight year-over-year improvement in car sales in the US. During the third quarter, the company sold 85,209 cars (up 4%), although the year-to-date result is still in the red at 249,835 (down 6%). BMW: 78,031 (up 3%) MINI: 7,178 (up 11%) Total: 85,209 (up 4%) In terms of plug-in electric cars, the company reports record results achieved by the BMW brand, which in Q3 sold 10,858 plug-ins (12.7% of the total volume), including 4,337 battery-electric cars (5.1% of the total volume). This includes 1,727 BMW iX, so we guess that the remaining 2,610 BEVs must be BMW i4 (as the BMW i3 was at 0 and there are no other all-electric BMWs on the market). Unfortunately, BMW counts electric and internal-combustion engine 4-series together in its stats. “Increased availability of the battery electric BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicle and BMW i4 Gran Coupe fueled sales growth in all three months of the third quarter.  As a result, the company also set new quarterly benchmarks for both battery electric (4,337) and plug-in hybrid electric deliveries (10,858 BEV & PHEV combined).” The good news is that soon the lineup will be further strengthened by the all-electric flagship BMW i7, which will arrive at dealerships in the US this quarter. BMW plug-in electric car sales: BMW i3: 0 (down 100%, retired) BMW i4: potentially 2,610 (new) BMW i8: 0 (down 100%, retired) BMW iX: 1,727 (new) Total: 10,858 (4,337 BEVs and 6,521 PHEVs) and 12.7% share * only models for which data are available Besides the i-series models, BMW offers also multiple plug-in hybrids, but sales data for those models is not available. On top of that comes the MINI brand and its plug-in hybrid Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 and all-electric MINI CooperSE, but once again, without any info about its sales results. Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America said: “The customer demand and enthusiasm for BMW’s electric vehicles has been there from the start. With the support of our dealer partners, we expect this momentum to accelerate through the fourth quarter, resulting in a strong finish to the year.” Detailed BMW sales results:

Plano Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For A ‘senseless’ Murder At Shops At Legacy In 2021 – WFAA.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/plano-man-sentenced-to-life-in-prison-for-a-senseless-murder-at-shops-at-legacy-in-2021-wfaa-com/ Officials said Jordan Christopher Jacobs, 25, accused a complete stranger of staring at his girlfriend and planned a robbery to punish him. COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — A 25-year-old Plano man has been sentenced to life in prison over a planned robbery that resulted in murder after he claimed another man was looking at his girlfriend, the Collin County District’s Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.  A Collin County jury found Jordan Christopher Jacobs guilty of capital murder in the 2021 shooting death of Steven Christopher Gambles II.   On July 7, 2021, Gambles was on his way to meet a friend for dinner at the Shops at Legacy in the 5700 block of Legacy Drive in Plano, when he unknowingly passed Jacobs outside the Mini Mart, Plano police said.   Jacobs reportedly told his girlfriend that Gambles had been looking at her and as punishment, he planned to rob Gambles. Police said Gambles and Jacobs did not know each other or have any connection. After deciding to rob Gambles, police said, Jacobs went back to his apartment to change into a long sleeve security jacket, dark pants and a mask as a disguise.   Surveillance video shows Jacobs circling and waiting for Gambles to return to his vehicle following his dinner at the Shops at Legacy. In the video, police said you can also see Jacobs successfully entering Gambles’ car and grabbing Gambles’ firearm from the console. When Gambles returned to his car, police said Jacobs confronted him, pointed the gun at Gambles’ head and shot him in the temple because he wouldn’t cooperate. Plano Police Detective Aaron Benzick investigated the case, combing through all the surveillance video to track Jacobs back to his nearby apartment to identify him as the shooter. Benzick said Jacobs was not associated with the Shops at Legacy security department and was not currently employed as a security guard with any company. “An innocent man was out enjoying dinner with a friend when his life was taken by a violent stranger. The jury’s verdict triggered an automatic punishment of life without the possibility of parole for this senseless and terrible crime,” said Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis after Jacobs was sentenced. Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Calli Bailey and Marisa Dunagan prosecuted the case and was assisted by District Attorney Investigator Mike Bennett, and Victim Assistance Coordinator Casey Hendrix.

Sister Wives star Janelle Brown took to Instagram to gush about spending an incredible month traveling with her former sister wife, Christine, and several of their children and grandchildren. The 53-year-old hit Idaho, Montana, Tennessee and even Hawaii on a series of fun, family trips. However, her husband, Kody — whom Christine left in November 2021 — did not appear to tag along with them on any of the outings. As OK! previously reported, the father-of-18 became frustrated after the 50-year-old told her fellow sister wives that she was leaving him. “I’m going to be the head of my household again, and I’m not going to be circumvented in that … if everybody’s willing to conform to patriarchy again,” he argued. “I’ve been fighting to make everybody happy. My bitterness is out of trying to do that and not having the family that I had thought about and designed.” Article continues below advertisement However, Janelle was far from pleased with Kody’s rant, noting in a confessional, “Yeah, I didn’t know I’d signed up for patriarchy, but that’s not what we all agreed on in the very beginning.”

For Business Leaders, Delivering Bad News In A Good Way Is A Skill That Takes Work – Star Tribune https://collincountynewsonline.com/for-business-leaders-delivering-bad-news-in-a-good-way-is-a-skill-that-takes-work-star-tribune/ Melissa DeLay helps CEOs find good ways to deliver bad news. That her business increased exponentially because of the pandemic may come as little surprise. DeLay has honed a framework for guiding companies through difficult situations during 22 years in crisis and strategic communications consulting with her Roseville-based firm, TruPerception. “There is science behind communication,” DeLay said. “There’s a specific way to write words. There are words to avoid, there are words you should be using. There’s a correct time to deliver a message. There’s a number of times that you have to repeat it in order for it to really resonate. There are the right vehicles to use.” Too many CEOs, however, don’t realize that closed-door meetings and poor body language, for example, speak volumes even when they’re not making announcements or sending emails about an issue. “The world is basically filled with bad news,” DeLay said. “Unfortunately very few people know how speak and write in a way that is transparent, gets results, helps them come from a position of power and not be taken advantage of or not come across as overbearing, pushy or aggressive, things that no leader really wants to be seen as.” Change is hard and communication is the key to change, DeLay said. That’s why she offers free “cheat sheets” on how to let an employee go and how to avoid a failed merger. Those may come in handy based on what DeLay sees leaders needing the most help with now. In one camp are companies that are growing, making acquisitions and looking for talent but struggling to handle constant rapid expansion. In the other are those starting to downsize, cutting costs and fearing where the economy will go. Informal communication is more powerful than formal announcements, DeLay said. Some leaders got better at it during the pandemic, letting their guard down slightly to get to know employees, though some of that “organic and natural” communication is going away. “I tell leaders all the time, if you want productivity to go up, you have to make it clear in your communication that you care about the people that work for you,” DeLay said. DeLay recommends speaking objectively about business, focusing on what makes sense for the company, customers and employees in the event of a disruption. She said employees respond better to everyday language. Before making an announcement concerning a disruption, senior leaders need to prepare front-line managers to answer questions because employees will approach them first. Leaders should be more informal and more transparent, DeLay said. But they shouldn’t wear their heart on their sleeve. In a recent email to clients, DeLay wrote about a CEO who posted a tearful photo of himself after laying off two employees. “I would have said to this CEO, what matters most is the employee in this situation — not the leader,” DeLay said. “Talk to your executive coach, your mom, your dog or your best friend, anybody else to give you the help that you need to get through this.” When emotions rise, the fight-or-flight response kicks in and we don’t think clearly. “Be transparent, be authentic, but don’t let emotion come into the equation in the moment,” DeLay said. “Just press the pause button so that you can communicate and your brain is working and the best possible result can come out. You want to show empathy but don’t let your emotions lead you. A leader’s job is to neutralize emotion.” Todd Nelson is a freelance writer in Lake Elmo. His e-mail is todd_nelson@mac.com.

Government burying Head In Sand Over Health Inequality Says Bishop Of London The Guardian
Government burying Head In Sand Over Health Inequality Says Bishop Of London The Guardian
Government ‘burying Head In Sand’ Over Health Inequality, Says Bishop Of London – The Guardian https://collincountynewsonline.com/government-burying-head-in-sand-over-health-inequality-says-bishop-of-london-the-guardian/ The most senior female bishop in the country has launched a scathing attack on the government, accusing it of “burying its head in the sand” over “shocking” and “rampant” health inequalities. Dame Sarah Mullally, the bishop of London, spoke out after the Guardian reported that Thérèse Coffey was dropping the government’s long-promised white paper on health disparities. The document was supposed to appear months ago and form part of the government’s pledge to level up the UK. It was due to set out “bold action” to narrow the widening inequalities in health outcomes that exist between the poorest and the wealthiest, between white and black, Asian and minority ethnic people, and between those in the north and south. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has denied that Coffey, the health secretary, has decided not to publish the white paper. Mullally, the first woman to hold the position of bishop of London and the third-highest-ranked bishop in the country, said immediate action was required to tackle “increasingly visible” health inequalities. “In the quest for health outcome improvement, we can leave no man, woman or child behind,” she said. “That is why recent reports of the shelving of the government’s health disparities white paper are tough to swallow.” Mullally, who this week will publish a report she commissioned on health inequalities in the capital, added: “It’s my sincere hope that the government joins us in looking for solutions, rather than burying its head in the sand.” Her intervention follows a series of stories by the Guardian over the last 12 months exposing the true scale of health inequalities across the UK. In April, the Guardian revealed women in the poorest areas of England were dying earlier than the average female in almost every comparable country in the world. Millions of women living in the most deprived areas can expect to live for 78.7 years, almost eight years fewer than those living in England’s wealthiest areas. It is worse than the average life expectancy for women in every single one of the world’s OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries, except Mexico. The stark analysis also revealed that the average life expectancy for all women across England and the UK is lower than the global OECD average. The UK ranks 25th out of the 38 OECD countries when it comes to the number of years a woman can on average expect to live. A DHSC spokesperson said at the time: “We are committed to levelling up health across the country and our health disparities white paper, due later this year, will set out action to reduce the gap in health outcomes between different places, so that people’s backgrounds do not dictate their prospects for a healthy life.” The white paper never appeared. Mullally, who in her previous career was England’s chief nursing officer, said: “It is truly shocking that women in England’s poorest areas are dying nearly a decade before their wealthier counterparts. No one should have to accept living shorter or unhealthier lives just because of where they live. These inequalities need to be addressed, and it is concerning how far inequalities have fallen down the government’s agenda. “The reality of health inequalities across our nation is undisputed. In recognition of this inequality, the Johnson government announced its intention to release a white paper investigating such inequalities. I certainly hope this vital work will be continued.” The Health Inequalities Action Group (HIAG), a multi-faith initiative led by Mullally, is expected to make 14 recommendations to tackle health inequalities when it publishes its report this week. Separately, more than 155 members of the Inequalities in Health Alliance (IHA), convened by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), have signed a joint letter to Coffey urging her to publish the health disparities white paper. In February, Sajid Javid, the then health secretary, told MPs that he would publish “in spring 2022” a white paper on “health disparities”. The document never appeared and was a notable omission in Coffey’s new 14-page Our Plan for Patients plan. Dr Sarah Clarke, the president of the RCP, said: “If we’re ever to reduce pressure on the NHS and lessen the demand for services, we need to tackle the root causes of ill health. This requires a specific cross-government strategy to reduce health inequalities – one that looks at every policy lever across government to tackle the factors that make people ill in the first place.” A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “It is inaccurate to say that the health disparities white paper has been scrapped. No decisions have been taken and we will update on next steps in due course. “We are committed to improving the health of the nation so that everyone can live longer, healthier lives, and we have put women’s health at the top of the agenda by publishing a women’s health strategy and appointing the first-ever women’s health ambassador for England. “Our Office for Health Improvement and Disparities is working to reduce unacceptable health disparities, focusing on the places and communities where ill health is most prevalent and life expectancy lower.”

Field goal unit coming out.  Pinned Expect Miami to rely on Mostert a ton in this second half.  Pinned Durham Smythe with a one-yard rush touchdown rush on a play the Chiefs ran last week against the Bucs. 19-14 now. It really feels like the Jets have momentum, but this game is far from over.  Pinned Six seconds before halftime. Dolphins going for it on second and goal down 19-7.  Pinned What’s really stood out to me so far apart from Sauce Gardner is Raheem Mostert. He has 74 yards rushing right now!  Pinned SAUCE GARDNER. He should be the favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year no respect to Devin Lloyd. Two HUGE plays today. Kid is a baller.  Pinned Dolphins! 8 plays, 75 yards. Mike McDaniel is having to get creative with some of these play calls with a third-stringer. It worked on that drive. Keep an eye on the running backs here. 12-7 Jets.  Pinned Breece Hall catch-and-run goes for 79 YARDS. Dolphins defense had no interest in tackling him.  Pinned A three-and-out on Thompson’s second drive. A screen went nowhere, and a five-yard completion on third and seven wasn’t enough. Big opportunity for the Jets here.  Pinned Jets put together their best drive of the game. 56 yards on seven plays. Ends on a 34-yard field goal to push the lead to five points. More than half of those yards came from penalties.  Pinned Dolphins go 5 plays, 33 yards before they have to punt. I really do like Skylar Thompson though. I want to see if he’s going to settle in. While it’s early, I think a storyline we are passing over is that the Jets’ offense has been bad. Let’s see if they can pick up more than one first down this drive.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Dang we really have Skylar Thompson vs. Zach Wilson today. Unreal. Thompson was a stud in the preseason. Jets forced to punt after another four-play drive. I’m keeping an eye on this offensive line through the afternoon.  Pinned Pinned Wow the Jets are so juiced today. Safety to start the game and now great field position thanks to Braxton Berrios.  Pinned First offensive play for the Dolphins and they get a safety! Unreal. Intentional grounding is definitely a weird call. Almost looked like a fumble.  I don’t care if the arm is going forward, Bridgewater didn’t have possession of the ball. Pinned Pinned Sauce Gardner shows up! He’s been lockdown this year and it feels like we aren’t talking enough about him. What a big hit on Bridgewater to start the game.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Jets go four plays and punt on their first drive. Cantu was holographically teleported into the Coach’s office, and the coach could coach him remotely. Cantu and his coach Mr. Schneider used Aexa’s novel technology, “Holoconnect,” which allows users to project as a three-dimensional hologram into a remote location. Aexa’s technology was used for the first time in October 2021, when NASA flight surgeon Dr. Josef Schmid, industry partner AEXA Aerospace CEO Fernando De La Pena Llaca and their teams were the first humans “holographically teleported” from Earth into space. Aexa plans to release this technology during the last quarter of 2022 as a low-cost universal solution. Aexa will launch the technology under Aexa Tech, and the Holoconnect will be available for any Mixed Reality, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Smart glasses, Smartphones, and Tablets. The goal is to provide holographically teleportation technology to any consumer by allowing them to use devices they currently have. That way, the technology will be available to help to provide coaching to sports players in any remote area. This technology will also be used for engineering, education, and medical purposes. Avoid Missing Out And Invest In Oryen Network (ORY), Fantom (FTM), FTX (FTT), And Cronos (CRO) – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/avoid-missing-out-and-invest-in-oryen-network-ory-fantom-ftm-ftx-ftt-and-cronos-cro-cryptonews/ Timing the market and making investments at the right time has proven to be one of the most challenging tasks of investing, if not impossible. Most investors are victims of their emotions and biases. Putting that aside will set one free to evaluate the market better and follow our guidelines, to buy when markets are red. That being said, right now is the perfect time to take positions, and with Oryen Network (ORY), Fantom (FTM), FTX (FTT), and Cronos (CRO), you will do very well in the coming months and years ahead. Oryen Network (ORY) Oryen Network is a hotly talked-about DeFi project on the Binance Smart Chain that offers a revolutionary static annual percentage yield (APY) of 90%, resulting in a daily ROI of 0.177%. The platform utilizes the proprietary OAT mechanism, which stands for Oryen Autostaking Technic. As a result, it removes the burden of interacting with staking contracts and only requires investors to hold $ORY in their wallets. Better not to miss Oryen’s presale, which happens to have just started. Fantom (FTM) Fantom is a high-throughput and open-source blockchain with almost instant finality. In addition, of course, FTM is EVM-compatible and offers to bridge to multiple other chains. Overall, Fantom has one of the highest TVL (Total Value Locked) in decentralized finance, which makes the chain primed for growth in the coming years. FTX (FTT) FTX is one of the leading centralized crypto exchanges, founded by Sam Bankman-Fried. Its native token, FTT is used to lower trading fees but also functions as collateral and can be utilized to stake and earn interest. FTX is the third biggest CEX by volume, making FTT an excellent choice to grow with the crypto market. Cronos (CRO) CRO is the native token of Crypto.com’s blockchain Cronos, a Centralized Crypto Exchange like FTX. Opposing Ethereum, Cronos is a closed-source blockchain for the platform’s financial services. For instance, you can stake CRO to unlock tiered credit cards with different benefits and bonuses. Conclusion Timing the market perfectly proves to be an impossible task. Hence it is advised to take positions right now when the market is generally fearful. The market can turn anytime, mostly when the majority is not expecting it. While all mentioned cryptos are excellent choices, Oryen Network (ORY) makes an investment even more lucrative with its ongoing presale. Taylor Knibb Earns First WTCS Medal Of The Year For The U.S. In Cagliari – TeamUSA.org https://collincountynewsonline.com/taylor-knibb-earns-first-wtcs-medal-of-the-year-for-the-u-s-in-cagliari-teamusa-org/ CAGLIARI, Italy – U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team member Taylor Knibb (Washington, D.C.) earned the first World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) podium of the year for the United States on Saturday, Oct. 8, placing third at the 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Cagliari.  The bronze is Knibb’s fifth career WTCS medal, and comes in the first WTCS event she’s raced since this May’s 2022 season opener in Yokohama. She crossed the finish line of Cagliari’s Olympic-distance course (1500-meter swim, 38-kilometer bike, 10k run) in a time of 1 hour, 47 minutes and 58 seconds. Knibb led a strong showing for the U.S. women, as three women placed in the top 10 with Taylor Spivey (Redondo Beach, Calif.) placing fourth and Kirsten Kasper (Andover, Mass.) taking sixth.  “Any chance you get onto a WTCS podium it’s a pretty good day, you can’t complain. These don’t come very frequently. I’m just grateful to be back on the start line and be able to race well,” Knibb said. “The run surprised me and it was an honor to run with those two [Georgia Taylor-Brown (Great Britain) and Emma Lombardi (France)].” Knibb started the race down, after exiting the water with a 33-second deficit from the front. While a large group got going on the bike, Knibb pushed it with a small pack to catch up and join the leaders. She then took control at the front and worked to take a large group of 26 and narrow it down to only 11.   The 11-strong also included U.S. compatriots Spivey and Kasper. Once onto the run, Knibb along with Taylor-Brown and Lombardi quickly separated from the group. The three kept tight for two laps until Taylor-Brown edged away to ultimately claim victory. She crossed in a time of 1:47:42, with Lombardi followed in second place at 1:47:54. Knibb followed suit just four seconds later.  Knibb said of her come-from-behind performance, “You could see it in the swim! I think within the first 100 meters I was in last place. And then I thought, ‘OK I can still get into it, just move up, move up, move up.’ And that was the game the whole day. It was nicer to be at the front, because then I could dictate where and what lines I could take into the corners, I was hoping that when I came up to the big group that it was a little bit of a surprise and then I could just go. But we had 11 people, a lot more than I wanted, but it is what it is and the cards just dealt what it was on the day and you make the most of it.”  Spivey, currently ranked fifth in the WTCS standings, turned in her third fourth-place finish of the season with a time of 1:48:32. Kasper finished close behind in sixth, in 1:48:46. Spivey, Knibb and Kasper are all ranked in the top 10 of the WTCS standings with one stop left in the Series, Bermuda on Nov. 5, before the WTCS Finals in Abu Dhabi over Thanksgiving weekend. Erika Ackerlund (Helena, Mont.) crossed the line in 1:51:20 to finish 20th overall, and Summer Rappaport closed out the U.S. women’s finishers placing 27th (1:53:18). In the men’s race, Kevin McDowell (Geneva, Ill.) earned the top result for the U.S., finishing 10th with a time of 1:40:54. She urged them to keep Mahatma Gandhi’s message of ‘Sarvodaya’ in their individual priorities. She said that it is the moral duty of every citizen, especially the youth, to put into practice his values. The President said, “Established in Lahore in the year 1921, PEC has emerged as a leading institute for research and contributed to global technological change. It is a convocation when a record number of 873 degrees – highest ever so far – are being conferred.” The director also focused on the regional diversity in PEC and that the institute admits students from abroad as well. Black Man Suspected Of Using Fake ID Ends Up Dead When He Encounters Texas Police – Daily Kos https://collincountynewsonline.com/black-man-suspected-of-using-fake-id-ends-up-dead-when-he-encounters-texas-police-daily-kos/ “Officers attempted to detain the suspect and he immediately ran from them,” Frisco police said in the news release. “Officers pursued the suspect into the parking lot and gave verbal commands to stop and warned him he would be tased if he failed to comply. The suspect kept running and an officer deployed their taser, but it did not make full contact and was ineffective. “A second officer deployed their taser, which led to the suspect falling and hitting his head on the ground. Officers placed the suspect into handcuffs, sat him upright, and quickly called for an ambulance.” Craig Miller, police chief of the Dallas Independent School District, told The Dallas Morning News stun guns are intended to incapacitate a person not to force someone to comply. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Hicks family, tweeted this statement: “Genesis Hicks was unarmed and running away from the police when he was tased, which ultimately led to his death. Running away from the police should not be a death sentence, but we often see it resulting in one for Black men. Review of the body camera footage showed us that Genesis never laid a hand on or threatened the Frisco police officers, but they immediately resorted to this unnecessary use of force. We will not let this tragedy be overlooked. We will advocate for transparency, answers, and justice for the Hicks family as they mourn his preventable death.”

Reduced Restrictions Creates More Optimism For Travel Agencies – PortageOnline.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/reduced-restrictions-creates-more-optimism-for-travel-agencies-portageonline-com/ Business is picking up for local travel agencies as airports have reduced the restrictions that were put in place due to COVID-19. Last Saturday, it was announced that certain restrictions within Canada would be reduced, if not totally removed, and that news has inspired potential travellers to get their tickets. Carey Duncan of Travel Quest in Portage la Prairie says people appear to be ready to go. “We’ve certainly been getting a lot of phone calls. It’s really spurred on a lot more people to be thinking about their winter plans and even into the spring of next year, as well,” says Duncan. “Having the mask mandate dropped, now the ArriveCan app is optional. That is just one more hurdle that people don’t have to worry about.” As more and more information comes out, more and more tickets are being sold. Duncan says, don’t wait too long if you have vacation on the mind. “We are seeing people planning well into the future, certainly, for this winter, even beyond, for Europe into the spring and summer,” says Duncan. “Really, with the pricing that we’re seeing right now, with every good news story, prices have tended to go up a little bit. So, you really do need to be planning ahead.”

The initiative will encourage attendees to build confidence in the kitchen from the comfort of their own home. Michaels Culinary School, in Inverness, will be working in collaboration with Mikeysline on the new idea. The school has been in talks with a local GP to be a contributor for so-called social prescription, referring patients to the social enterprise to learn new skills, engage in the community, and pursue a healthy lifestyle using the replicable and affordable recipes produced and taught by chef Connor Rae. Online workshops with Michael’s Culinary School will cover several classic dishes and encourage attendees to build confidence in the kitchen from the comfort of their own home. The workshop collaboration started yesterday – World Mental Health Day – and a number of places on the workshop were reserved for the benefit of Mikeysline volunteers and service users. Mikeysline has recently welcomed consultant nutritional scientist and visiting contributor Kerstin Eickhoff-Piechaczek from Germany. Kerstin will be attending some of the workshops with Connor to facilitate friendly and informative conversations about the relationships between food and mental health. Katie Melville, fundraising manager for Mikeysline, said: “We were delighted to be approached by Michaels Culinary School to benefit from their online workshop programme. Their vision as a social enterprise to encourage people in our community to learn new skills and prepare fresh, healthy and affordable meals for themselves is appropriately timed as the cost of living continues to affect all of us. “By being able to signpost our service users to Michaels Culinary School we can encourage people meet and talk to others, learn something new, and prepare a fresh healthy meal.” Michael Fallows, CEO of Michaels Culinary School, said: “Michaels Culinary School was set up with the help and support of my grandad who sadly took his own life in January 2022 due to poor mental health. “I want to use this opportunity with Mikeysline to make sure that they can continue the work and support that they provide to the local community, and to make sure that people know its OK not to be OK.” Do you want to respond to this article? Euro 2024 Qualifying Draw: England Grouped With Italy – Sky Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/euro-2024-qualifying-draw-england-grouped-with-italy-sky-sports/ England will face Italy and Ukraine in their Euro 2024 qualifying group. Defending champions Italy and England met in the final of Euro 2020 but have now been pitted against each other in their bid to qualify for the tournament in Germany. North Macedonia, who prevented Roberto Mancini’s side from reaching the World Cup, will also feature in Group C. Reacting to England’s qualifying group, manager Gareth Southgate told Sky Sports News: “It’s clearly a tough draw, given the quality of the opposition, and we’ve had draws in qualification that have probably been a little bit more comfortable than that. “But I’d have to say, Poland and Hungary in the last qualifying group (for the Qatar World Cup) was particularly tough as well. So we’re used to that, and the draws are what they are, it’s about how you perform on the day.” On facing familiar opposition in Italy, the England manager added: “There are not too many surprises. We know the quality that they have and we know the depth that they have. England’s record against Italy, generally, is not very good so we’ve got to improve that.” The top two countries from each qualifying group – seven of which include just five countries – will qualify. Scotland have been grouped with Spain and Norway while Wales will face Croatia. But the Republic of Ireland seemingly face a tough challenge after being drawn with Netherlands and France. Two teams from each of the three groups with six countries will also qualify for Euro 2024. Northern Ireland, also in a six-country group, will play Denmark, Finland and Slovenia. Germany, as hosts, have qualified automatically for the tournament while three countries will qualify from the play-offs. The qualifiers start in March and will conclude next November. Group E: Poland, Czech Republic, Albania, Faroe Islands, Moldova. Group F: Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Estonia. Group G: Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Lithuania. Group H: Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland, San Marino. Group I: Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Kosovo, Belarus, Andorra. Group J: Portugal, Bosnia, Iceland, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Liechtenstein. Who qualifies for Euro 2024? Two teams – the group winners and runners-up – will qualify automatically from each of the 10 groups. Three teams will then qualify via the play-offs. Germany, as hosts, are the only country currently certain to be one of the 24 nations in action at next summer’s tournament. Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Italy manager Roberto Mancini is looking forward to resuming his team’s rivalry with England What are the key Euro 2024 dates? The first round of qualifiers takes place between March 23-25 2023, while the final matches are on November 19-21 2023. However, the four Nations League finalists will not be in action on either matchday three or four as they will be competing in the finals of that tournament. When are the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying matches? 23-25/03/2023 Matchday 1 26-28/03/2023 Matchday 2 16-17/06/2023 Matchday 3 19-20/06/2023 Matchday 4 07-09/09/2023 Matchday 5 10-12/09/2023 Matchday 6 12-14/10/2023 Matchday 7 15-17/10/2023 Matchday 8 16-18/11/2023 Matchday 9 19-21/11/2023 Matchday 10 What about the play-offs? Each country that won their Nations League group make it automatically into the play-offs, unless they progress to the tournament itself by finishing in the top two of their qualifying group. In that situation, the next best nation in the respective league will take their play-off place, with this decided by the following criteria: position in the group, points and goal difference. The draw for the play-offs takes place in November 2023, with the play-off semi-finals and finals being played between March 21 and 26, 2024. When is the tournament? The final tournament draw will take place in December 2023 at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. The teams will be seeded in accordance with the overall European Qualifiers rankings. Germany will be automatically seeded into pot 1 as hosts, and placed in position A1. The three play-off winners will not be known at the time of the draw but will be placed into pot 4 for the draw. The opening game of Euro 2024 is June 14 2024 with the final taking place on July 14 2024 at the Olympiastadion, Berlin. Who are the Euro 2024 hosts? Germany, the team of the EURO 2024 host association, qualify automatically for the final tournament and therefore did not take part in the qualifying draw.
