‘Meta Connect’ Rolls Out Next Week Despite Issues Bugging Metaverse – Tech Times https://collincountynewsonline.com/meta-connect-rolls-out-next-week-despite-issues-bugging-metaverse-tech-times/
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will address the public in two days about important updates to Meta’s billion-dollar metaverse project. This event will take place despite news that leaked Meta company memos revealed that even employees were not particularly enthusiastic about the project they were working on.
Metaverse on ‘Quality Lockdown”
The Verge is the first to report that memos were sent to Meta employees requesting that they spend more time in the metaverse. According to leaked memos, the Horizon Worlds team is being briefed for not visiting Meta’s metaverse frequently enough, even though this is the product they are working on.
Previous reports also indicate that the company is still working to resolve a number of quality issues. Vishal Shah, VP of Metaverse, informs his team through leaked memos that they will be in “quality lockdown” for the remainder of the year so that the problems can be resolved before more users gain access to the app.
Mark Zuckerberg could provide insights into what is happening now in the metaverse development as well as his opinion on recent issues hounding the company in the Meta Connect, which will be live streamed on Oct. 11. Previously, the Meta CEO revealed on a Joe Rogan podcast that lighter headsets are in the works. This year’s Meta Connect may provide a glimpse of that.
Meta Connect Details
The people behind the company will share the process of building the metaverse, as well as the many collaborations that they have made along the way, at the Meta Connect conference. The virtual event is reported to feature key presenters who will discuss a variety of topics related to the digital platform.
As per Business Insider, Zuckerberg will discuss the VR developer ecosystem, progress toward the metaverse, and “Project Cambria,” a new high-end VR headset with mixed reality. As stated by the company, anyone with a Meta Quest 2 headset can register to participate virtually in “Meta Horizon Worlds.”
On the said date, the company will host a virtual conference for developers, creators, tech enthusiasts, and others. Mark Zuckerberg’s address on how a social metaverse is additive to physical experiences, allowing users to connect in “deeper, more meaningful ways,” will be one of the event’s highlights.
Aside from bringing the world closer together, the metaverse promises a plethora of new business opportunities. The event will include talks on how to capitalize on the metaverse’s opportunities and turn them into profitable businesses.

In-depth discussions of new products, tools, and hardware will also be held during the event and on-demand later. According to Mark Zuckerberg, Meta is preparing something for its virtual reality headsets that will be available by October, as stated on a Joe Rogan Podcast.
The company’s next product will launch later this year to bring the world a new VR headset experience that would give everyone a chance to access the digital world.

See The Biggest Trends From Fashion Month SS23 – HYPEBEAST https://collincountynewsonline.com/see-the-biggest-trends-from-fashion-month-ss23-hypebeast/
Paris Fashion Week has ended, marking the end of the Spring/Summer 2023 runway presentations, and there’s much to discuss. Upon reflection, New York set the tone for the hefty month, with brands like Luar and No Sesso showcasing bold-shouldered silhouettes; Fendi and LaQuan Smith placing an emphasis on utilitarian codes; Eckhaus Latta and Coach delivering a bevy of sweaters; and Willy Chavarria opting for decadent suiting.
London held the spotlight next, offering up an unprecedented display of design expertise. Among the standout trends, punk design codes hit the runways of Chopova Lowena and Daniel W. Fletcher; maxi skirts became menswear statement pieces for Stefan Cooke and Simone Rocha, and genderless designs commanded collections by JW Anderson and Edward Crutchley.
In Milan, Italian tailoring took center stage, especially for the likes of Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Bally, Jil Sander and GCDS. Embracing contemporary formalwear for the everyday, each of the aforementioned brands (and more) transformed the suit’s once “stuffy” appearance to be modern and refreshed, proving that tailoring is here to stay.
Next, Paris let the fashion world know that androgynous suiting exists at the fore of men’s style. Botter presented formal pieces with heart-shaped lapels, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s The Row debuted boxy blazers and wide-legged trousers. Additionally, Vivienne Westwood and GmBH revealed punky, rebellious suiting that blended ’80s rave culture with maximalism; and Thom Browne, of course, put men in signature pleated kilts.
Collectively, the Spring/Summer 2023 runways moved fashion forward with contemporary design techniques and refreshed tailoring alike. Below, Hypebeast has rounded up some of the biggest trends from the month.

Utilitarian codes of ready-to-wear and accessories gear up for next season in the form of strap-happy bags and zip-closure detailing, along with an array of extra pockets on cargo pants, full-zip jackets, windbreakers and backpacks.
From Balenciaga to Givenchy, Fendi’s multi-collab project and Tommy Hilfiger, designers are aiming to free up the hands of consumers, so that we can be outside and enjoy an upcoming Spring/Summer season without fumbling with gadgets or handy distractions.

Several designers opted to turn their designs into full-blown works of art. Loewe, under the creative jurisdiction of Jonathan Anderson, showed multiple ensembles decorated with very realistic centerpieces depicting blossoming flowers alongside a few looks that very literally mimicked the aesthetics of ’90s video games. JW Anderson, the designer’s eponymous label, let the creativity continue to flourish, with designs resembling a prized goldfish bag, a ’90s desktop keyboard, coffee grounds, metal scourers and more. Elsewhere, Coperni took “fashion as art” took to the next level, dousing a naked Bella Hadid in an instant spray-on fabric to create a dress before showgoers’ eyes.
At its core, it’s camp, but on the larger fashion stage, this type of artful approach showcases a designer’s ability to truly think outside the box.

The association of lace being an intimate fabric – along with sheer items like chiffon and organza – has been keenly noted for next season, as these materials have been shown in a barely-there way in various collections.
Brands including Lanvin, Theophilio and Louis Vuitton each featured the trend as a subtle opposition to the pandemic’s doom-and-gloom melancholy that has weighed heavy on consumers (and designers alike) over the past two years. Whether worn under decadent suiting or in a cool manner with button-up shirts or thin tank tops, shimmering sheers will surely glitz up and enliven any of your outings for next season.

On myriad runways, onlookers saw colors elegantly blend into one another across a diverse array of fabrics. Ferragamo let orange turn to red across a slew of mesh fabrications that composed tops and and buttoned dresses alike; Peter Do turned grey to black on newly-debuted men’s shirting as well as dramatic trench coats and dresses; and Diesel turned white to blue across several denim pieces, among several others.
The soft ombré effect is versatile in nature, and it can virtually be applied to almost any ensemble. Evidently, the soft change in color offers an elegant elevation, without ever taking too much attention away from each designer’s craftsmanship.

In bold fashion, shoulders have become a focal point for SS23, with brands like Luar, Matty Bovan, AVAVAV and No Sesso turning inward to lead the charge.
After the pandemic placed an unbearable weight on the world’s shoulders, designers have been keen to make witty references to social plights and presented collections that feature exaggerated shoulder pads, extra wide lapels and extremely rounded sleeve units.

Terra Luna Classic Price Prediction – How High Can LUNC Rally By 2023? – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/terra-luna-classic-price-prediction-how-high-can-lunc-rally-by-2023-cryptonews/
Terra Luna Classic price prediction is now bullish after LUNC bounced off the 50-day moving average support area of $0.00022525. Most of LUNC’s bullish trend is driven by the new burn mechanism.
Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange, has created a new burn mechanism for the Luna Classic (LUNC) token, bringing renewed interest to the original Terra chain’s token.
The question now is how high LUNC can rally by 2023. Let’s find out!
Binance Implements Terra Classic (LUNC) Burn Mechanism
Accordingly to Binance’s announcement, the exchange decided to develop a burn mechanism to transfer all trading fees on LUNC spot and margin trading pairs to the LUNC burn address. This announcement will be updated weekly with the precise quantity of LUNC to be burned, its corresponding value in USDT, and the on-chain transaction ID.
About 7.2 billion LUNC were burned in batch 1 of LUNC burn. However, There has been no apparent change in the rate of cryptocurrency burns nearly two weeks after the widespread burn of the infamous LUNC began.
Binance LUNC Burn – Source: Binance Announcements
It’s worth noting that approximately 6 billion LUNC were taken off the market as trading commissions after the first batch burnt. The data on trade volumes suggests a decline in the LUNC burn rate.
Furthermore, by October 10, we should have an accurate count of the coins Binance has destroyed.
As the primary factor in the number of trading fees and taxes paid on trades, a decrease in trading activity might have an unfavorable impact.
Binance Calls Upon Other Exchanges to Implement Burn
According to recent tweets by Luna C Whale, Binance, the leading cryptocurrency exchange, has invited other exchanges to implement the LUNC burn mechanism.
Thousands of users have retweeted the news, but the source has yet to be confirmed. If this is correct, we may see more LUNC price support in the coming days.
Previously, the CoinMarketCap statistics show that if the LUNC trade volume were $913 million on Monday, October 3, it would drop to $250 million by the end of the week. LUNC traders will be watching for the next announcement on the LUNC burn figure with bated breath.
Terra Classic’s current price is $0.000294, with a 24-hour trading volume of $260,425,822. Terra Classic has increased by 1.63% in the previous 24 hours. CoinMarketCap now ranks 32nd, with a live market cap of $1,809,604,400.
Terra Luna Classic Price Prediction – How High Can LUNC Rally By 2023?
Technically, LUNC has bounced off the 50-day moving average line at $0.000279 and is now trading at 0.000294. The LUNC/USD has completed a 61.8% Fibonacci retracement at $0.000279, and candles closing above this level increase the likelihood of a bullish reversal.
LUNC’s immediate resistance remains at $0.000342, which is extended by a 38.2% Fibonacci retracement.
Above this, LUNC can target the 50% and 61.8% Fibonacci retracement levels, which are at $0.000392 and $0.000440, respectively.
The leading technical indicators, the relative strength index (RSI) and the moving average convergence and divergence (MACD), are tossing in the bullish and bearish zones on the daily timeframe.
These indicators show a tug-of-war between bulls and bears, implying that investors are waiting for a compelling reason to make their next move.
On the downside, a break of $0.00028 could send the LUNC price down to $0.000227 or $0.000185 support.
How High Can LUNC Rally By 2023?
Given the success of the LUNC burn, LUNC has the potential to attract buyers, and increased demand could push the LUNC price up to $0.000439 or $0.000586.
A further bullish breakout in LUNC could open up more room for buying until $0.000765 (1.14% Fib extension) or $0.000997 (1.14% Fib extension) levels.
LUNC Alternatives – Tamadoge & IMPT Pumping
Tamadoge, a meme coin, has grown in popularity since its yearly low of $0.01683. OpenSea now sells ultra-rare Tamadoge NFTs starting at 1 WETH. Tamadoge has become the third most valuable meme coin in the crypto space.
On the other hand, IMPT’s presale remains in the highlights. Even though the blockchain-based carbon credit marketplace launched its auction during a cryptocurrency bear market, demand for the marketplace token remained high.
The project’s native currency, the IMPT token, has already raised an incredible $2.4 million after only six days of presale, having sold 133.36 tokens.

Ruth Chepngetich Approaches Marathon Record; Emily Sisson Sets U.S. Mark – ESPN https://collincountynewsonline.com/ruth-chepngetich-approaches-marathon-record-emily-sisson-sets-u-s-mark-espn/
Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich defended her Chicago Marathon title in a dominant display Sunday, breaking the tape in 2 hours, 14 minutes, 18 seconds, as her compatriot Benson Kipruto cruised to victory in the men’s race in 2:04:24.
Chepngetich built up an early lead and had established an astonishing 3:42 advantage over the chasing pack by the halfway point.
Charging to the line with no one else in sight, the 2019 world champion was in a race against the clock as she tried to break the world record but came up 14 seconds short of Brigid Kosgei’s mark, set on the same flat course three years ago.
“I wanted to break the world record … but I’m happy,” Chepngetich said. “Next year I’m ready to come back again.”
Emily Sisson finished second in an American marathon record of 2:18:29, and Kenyan Vivian Jerono Kiplagat third.
On the men’s side, Kipruto joined a large leading pack from the start and grabbed the outright lead with an 11-second margin over last year’s champion Seifu Tura Abdiwak of Ethiopia by the 40-kilometer mark in one of his trademark late surges.
The 2021 Boston Marathon winner hardly looked fatigued as he broke the tape in sunny conditions, seven years after his older brother Dickson Chumba won the race. Tura Abdiwak finished second in 2:04:49, and Kenyan John Korir took third.
“I’m so happy,” Kipruto said. “I’m here to take up from where [Chumba] left.”
Paralympic champion Marcel Hug of Switzerland won the men’s wheelchair race in a blistering 1:25:20, building on a stellar 2022 that also brought him wins in Tokyo, Berlin and London.
American Susannah Scaroni stunned last year’s champion Tatyana McFadden on the women’s side in 1:45:48 for her first major marathon title.

Women’s ACHA Hockey Drops Series Finale To Indiana Tech – Lindenwood Athletics https://collincountynewsonline.com/womens-acha-hockey-drops-series-finale-to-indiana-tech-lindenwood-athletics/
Women’s ACHA hockey fell to Indiana Tech 6-3 in the series finale Saturday afternoon at SpeedOne Parkview Arena in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Lions displayed great defense early, keeping the Warriors off the board for most of the opening period, but a goal at 16:17 put Indiana Tech in the lead and the Warriors took a 2-0 advantage at 7:54 of the second. Lindenwood responded with great sustained pressure in the zone. After almost a minute, the Warriors gained possession, but Madison Teague took the puck away and found the back of the net on an unassisted play at the 9:57 mark. The Lions were back in the game, but a penalty gave Indiana Tech a power play late in the period. The Warriors capitalized to go up 3-1.
A flurry of activity marked the opening minutes of the third. Indiana Tech scored another power play goal 37-seconds in to lead 4-1, but then was called for a body checking penalty. Lindenwood won the faceoff and took a shot, but was denied. The Warriors countered on a rush and scored short-handed for a 5-1 advantage, but the Lions were still on the power play. They cashed it in and cut the deficit to three when Kim Turcotte was set up for a shot by Loki Antonio at the 2:36 mark.
The third period proved to be a physical and chippy one with 19-minutes of penalties called. Five of those came on a major call against Lindenwood. On the ensuing power play, Indiana Tech kept the puck in the zone for over three minutes and eventually scored at 7:16 to extend the lead to 6-2. The Lions scored the last goal of the game on another power play with 1:56 remaining in regulation. Jessica Wither and Antonio set up Kennedy Frank for the shot.
The Warriors outshot Lindenwood 39-24 and Maia Busi stopped 33 of the 39 shots she faced in a losing effort for the Lions in goal.
With the loss, Lindenwood fell to 1-3 on the season. The Lions go back on the road for a two-game series in Women’s Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action against Minnesota October 15-16. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Saturday night and at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Rider Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

12 Tips For Surviving A Luxury Cruise With Kids The Points Guy
12 Tips For Surviving A Luxury Cruise With Kids – The Points Guy https://collincountynewsonline.com/12-tips-for-surviving-a-luxury-cruise-with-kids-the-points-guy/
Take the kids on a luxury cruise — how dare you? Luxury cruises are the domain of well-heeled, mature couples looking for fine dining, personal service, elegant suites and onboard spaces free of loud, energetic children. Or so say luxury cruise fans on online forums whenever someone floats the idea of treating their family to an upscale cruise.
Ignore them. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your preferred luxury standards just because you’re cruising as a foursome (or more) rather than a twosome. And unless your cruise line expressly prohibits children under a certain age, there’s no reason why you can’t bring the younger members of your family along.
The key to luxury cruising with kids is to know what to expect from the ship and what to expect from your kids, and then plan accordingly. If you’re ready to ditch Disney’s jungle cruise ride for a week or more in favor of an upscale cruise ship, follow these 12 tips for a successful luxury sailing with your junior cruisers.

Take a hard look at your kids
Is your child well behaved and polite, or do they throw massive tantrums routinely at dinner? Does your teen prefer to make friends on vacation or hang out with her family? Does your middle-schooler get easily bored without nonstop activities or can he find his own fun anywhere?
The answers to these questions will help you decide if an adult-focused, luxury cruise vacation is right for your family. If your child can’t handle long dinners, a ship without water slides and rock-climbing walls, and minimal to no other kids on board, now might not be the right time to splurge on that dream luxury cruise. You can always wait a few years and try again.
Then again, if your budding foodies love to try new cuisines, earned airline elite status as a toddler and are on first-name basis with the staff at the Ritz, they will fit in just fine.
Choose ships with kids programming
Paul Gauguin’s onboard naturalists run its Moana Explorer Program for children. PAUL GAUGUIN CRUISES
Some upscale cruise lines outright ban children (Viking) or have an age minimum (Windstar), but others welcome kids and offer special activities during sailings with larger-than-usual numbers of children. Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers its Club Mariner program for kids ages 5 to 17, with daily programming led by youth counselors. Paul Gauguin Cruises runs the Moana Explorer Program to introduce kids to the natural wonders of the South Pacific on summer and holiday sailings.
Other lines, such as Seabourn, might not have an official kids program but will put on activities when families are sailing in abundance. Be sure to ask your travel agent what to expect if you’re cruising with younger kids who could benefit from age-appropriate games and crafts.
Plan for family time
On a big ship, your kids could spend the entire day in the kids club or running around with a pack of teens to the sports court and water slides, leaving the adults to enjoy the spa or solarium in peace. On a luxury cruise ship, with fewer options for children, you should count on lots of family together time instead.
This is a good thing. Save your massage for a weekend at home and date night for your regular sitter. You don’t have many chances to spend whole days with your kids without work emails and chores getting in the way. Embrace this opportunity to go to shows together, laugh as your kid tries foie gras for the first time, or sip tea, nibble scones and just talk to each other. The together time is a greater luxury than you might have imagined.
Choose the right itinerary
ROBERTO MOJOLA/SYSAWORLD/GETTY IMAGES
If you’re concerned that long days at sea on a luxury cruise ship won’t go over well with your kids, look for an itinerary that’s in port nearly every day. You can plan family fun off the ship, and then come back on board for gourmet dinners and an evening show or in-cabin movie before hitting the sack. Everyone wins.
Also, make sure you pick a destination that’s age appropriate. Little kids might prefer a tropical cruise with plenty of beach time versus strolling the cobblestoned streets of quaint towns in France and Italy. Active tweens and teens might relish zip-lining, hiking and kayaking in Alaska, while bookish kids might itch to see historic sites in Greece and Turkey.
Let your kids select their onboard activities
Other luxury cruisers will tell you that there are no activities for kids on fancy cruise ships, but I’ve watched plenty of kids on high-end sailings and can tell you that’s not true. Kids like all kinds of activities, not just the ones planned for them.
On one Seabourn cruise, I was on a daily trivia team with a family that included a 10-year-old girl. She was enthusiastic about the daily game and contributed several answers. Another boy and his grandmother always showed up to afternoon tea and he seemed happy as a clam. I’ve seen kids on Regent Seven Seas enjoying the pool, not to mention the ice cream. My own kids have surprised me with their interest in the captain’s Q&A or games of shuffleboard, so don’t assume that just because there isn’t specific kids programming that your kids will be bored.
Make use of room service
Luxury cruises are known for spacious cabins and complimentary in-room meal service. Make use of these perks by ordering meals to your cabin when the kids are tired or can’t sit through a leisurely dinner. They can eat chicken fingers while watching cartoons, and you don’t have to miss out on the evening’s culinary selections. You can even ask for dinner to be served course by course from the main restaurant.
Or order coffee for you and cereal for them to arrive in the morning while everyone’s getting ready, and then meander up to the buffet for a hot breakfast without anyone having a hangry meltdown.
Bring snacks — or find them on board
No matter where you travel, I’m adamant you should always bring snacks for kids. Whether you need a mid-excursion pick-me-up or an alternative to a fancy lunch, be sure to have pre-packaged bars, applesauce pouches or bags of goldfish crackers or pretzels at the ready to prevent meltdowns. Cruise ships don’t always have kid snacks available.
Even if you don’t bring your own food, remember you’re on a luxury cruise. Ask your butler to bring a selection of kid-friendly foods (cheese and crackers, grapes, popcorn, cookies) at 3 p.m. each day instead of smoked salmon finger sandwiches or bacon-wrapped dates — though you might also learn your kids have a secret appetite for blinis with caviar. If you can’t order it midday, save cereal and yogurt from breakfast to keep in your suite’s minifridge. And find the onboard cafe with all-day snacks where you can swing by for a quick bite anytime the munchies strike.

Pack entertainment
Luxury cruises will have some planned daytime entertainment, but not as much as on the humongous cruise ships. Trivia, cooking demonstrations and guest lectures are all popular pastimes, but many luxury cruisers prefer a relaxing day of playing cards in a lounge or reading by the pool.
If your family needs more excitement, you’ll have to bring the fun. Pack those handheld video game players, tablets loaded with movies and games, a deck of cards, and maybe even some travel-sized board games. For little kids, you might want to bring a coloring pad and crayons, sticker books, dolls or toy cars — whatever keeps your lot happy on a slow day at sea.
Engage with the crew
REGENCY SEVEN SEAS CRUISES
If some of your shipmates are standoffish, I can bet you the crew won’t be. Many have families they’ve left behind at home, and they don’t have the chance to interact with little kids so often on the high-end ships. They will be eager to dote on your junior cruisers, bringing them special treats or making them origami animals out of daily programs. Engage with the crew members and they will help you keep the kids happy and the stress off your shoulders.
Don’t count on babysitting
Most luxury cruise lines do not offer in-room babysitting — and if they do, it’s only if there is a willing female crew member available at the time you need. It’s a courtesy, not a guaranteed service. Don’t take a luxury cruise assuming someone will be able to stay in the room with your sleeping children while you enjoy the onboard nightlife.
If you’re really intent on having adult alone time on the ship, you’ll want to bring your own nanny or babysitter for your children. That might mean booking your kids and the sitter in a room adjoining yours, or sharing a suite with your family and booking the nanny into a lower-category cabin. It will likely mean booking a second cabin, which is not cheap on a high-end line, but the expense might be worth it if everyone enjoys the trip more with an extra set of eyes and hands.

Ignore the sideye
Unfortunately, while many cruisers will be thrilled to see kids on board, some of your shipmates will give you the look or mutter comments about your choice to sail with children — especially in a moment when your kids aren’t being 100% perfect angels. Don’t let them yuck your yum. You have as much right as they have to bring your family on a luxurious cruise ship.
Trust me, I’ve seen plenty of adults whine and tantrum or otherwise behave in a less-than-becoming manner on upscale cruise ships. Your kids are acting their age — those folks knew better. Still, most of the kids I’ve noticed on luxury cruises were having a great time and not causing any trouble.
Take the high road, nod and smile at the naysayers, and go on enjoying your fine family getaway.

Small Axe Peppers Spices Up Traditional Business Model Via Community Gardens Yahoo Finance
Small Axe Peppers Spices Up Traditional Business Model Via Community Gardens – Yahoo Finance https://collincountynewsonline.com/small-axe-peppers-spices-up-traditional-business-model-via-community-gardens-yahoo-finance/
Small Axe Peppers aims to spice up the typical small business model via community gardens across the nation.
The Bronx-based business began in 2014 after it donated Serrano pepper seeds to seven community gardens in the Bronx. As of October 2022, it now donates seeds and then purchases back the locally grown-peppers from more than 122 community gardens across the nation, adding up to 15 tons of peppers.
Despite its local roots, Small Axe Peppers CEO says it’s not immune to the major headwinds impacting some of its biggest competitors like Conagra (CAG), Kraft Heinz (KHC) and the Campbell Soup Company (CPB).
“Like many businesses in this era, transportation costs have gone up and we’re in the process of adjusting some of that [cost]. We’ve had some upward price adjustment to our distribution partners, to make sure that our costs are keeping in line with the cost that we’ve had to absorb in this new environment,” CEO John Crotty told Yahoo Finance (video above).
Small Axe Peppers Hot Sauce is made with peppers grown in community gardens and urban farms across America. (Courtesy: Small Axe Peppers)
At the end of each harvesting season, the company then buys the peppers back for a price tag of roughly $83,000, but that number will likely increase this year as commodities, shipping and labor costs rise.
The cost of fresh vegetables are at an all-time high, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)’s latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for August 2022.
“The gardens are still getting a way bigger premium than they had been getting before and we’ve had more gardens come on this year than we’ve had in years past,” Crotty explained.
The trek to transport all the peppers back to their production facility just north of the Bronx to create the hot sauce can be costly. In August, the cost of gas dropped 10.6% month-over-month, but was still up 25.6% year-over-year. Now, gas prices are on the rise once again, according to AAA, following Wednesday’s OPEC+ meeting where it announced plans to cut crude production by 2 million barrels of oil per a day this fall. Currently, the national average sits at $3.89 per a gallon.
Despite the impact, Small Axe Peppers is determined to bring this model to more community gardens or as Crotty calls it “green oasis spaces” in urban cities. The peppers are now grown more than 42 cities including Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix, among others. There is also an expanding list of regional product offerings, among other items including Serrano pepper seeds for customers to grow themselves.
According to Crotty, the word about its mission is spreading fast. “It’s amazing how many gardeners around the country knew people in the Bronx, so as the model expanded, word of mouth expanded.”

The selected projects possessed several quality characteristics: all three were significant in size and scope and they showcased an array of services that Simonson Construction offers in Wooster, Ashland, and neighboring communities, according to a news release from the company.
The West View facility project competed in the $10 to $25 Million range of the health care category and received a Merit Award. Roughly 56,000 square feet of living and recreational space was added to the West View community.
West View Healthy Living is a retirement community designed to provide amenities for a wide variety of residents’ health and wellness needs.
The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center Additionwas entered in the $5 to $10 Million Institutional category and received the Excellence Award. It was recognized as one of three finalists for Project of the Year.
Simonson Construction’s building and excavation crews invested over 12,500 man hours into the 20,700 square-foot facility. Upon project completion last December, the center welcomed the public to its state-of-the-art indoor water park, fitness center and multi-purpose space, which is open seven days a week and offers a multitude of activities for members of all ages.
The Primary Colors facility in Ashland was submitted in the Pre-Engineered Building Under $100 Million category. The facility received the ABC Excellence Award.
Upon completion, the facility totaled 93,635 square feet under roof.

Giants Vs. Packers Live Score, Updates, Highlights From 2022 NFL London Game – Sporting News https://collincountynewsonline.com/giants-vs-packers-live-score-updates-highlights-from-2022-nfl-london-game-sporting-news/
For the first time in the history of the NFL London game, both participating teams — the Packers and Giants — have winning records.
The Packers (3-1) are coming off consecutive close wins over the Buccaneers and Patriots. They must face a 3-1 Giants team that could be without its top two quarterbacks in Daniel Jones (ankle) and Tyrod Taylor (concussion).
New York does boast Saquon Barkley, the NFL leader in both rushing attempts (84) and rushing yards (463) through four games. Regardless of who runs the Giants’ offense, it’s a good bet Barkley will be a big part of the game plan against Green Bay.
Conversely, Aaron Rodgers will continue to work on the Packers’ passing game without Davante Adams. He has posted three straight games of two passing touchdowns, but he has also thrown interceptions in consecutive games, including a pick-six vs. New England. He has yet to throw for more than 255 yards in a game.

10:30 a.m.: TOUCHDOWN, PACKERS. A little misdirection goes a long way, as Rodgers ha his second touchdown of the day to Marcedes Lewis, who leaked out into the flat for the wide-open score. It’s his first catch of the year and first touchdown since 2020. Packers lead 17-3 with 7:25 left in the half.

The Next Generation Is Already Living In The Metaverse Android Central
The Next Generation Is Already Living In The Metaverse – Android Central https://collincountynewsonline.com/the-next-generation-is-already-living-in-the-metaverse-android-central/
(Image credit: Nicholas Sutrich / Android Central)
It’s Friday evening, and I’m sitting on my couch watching my son play Minecraft with his cousin, who lives 600 miles away. The two of them are squealing gleefully as they chase each other around a custom hide-and-seek map that one of them made, and that’s when it hit me. The metaverse isn’t something that we need to wait five to 10 years for. It’s already here, and the next generation is living in it.
So, then how do we juxtapose that with the latest figures out of a report from The Information (opens in new tab) which shows that Meta — and other companies like it — are spending in upwards of $70 billion to build the metaverse (opens in new tab) over the next decade? As The Information’s article points out, this is twenty times the amount Apple invested when building the original iPhone.
But, here’s the deal. While many elements of the Metaverse as a noun certainly exist, it’s going to take a whole lot more to truly create a digital world that converges all the existing metaverse concepts into something interoperable. Of course, then, it would take a lot more money to put together than a single product. Duh.
But is it really necessary to make one cohesive virtual world? I’d like to explore that question in today’s Editor’s Desk piece.
(Image credit: Nicholas Sutrich / Android Central)
I’ve seen the argument that games like World of Warcraft and Everquest popularized the concept of an online world where players can assume an alter-ego and live out their days as something far more exciting than real life. And while those games did wonder for creating a virtual world that felt more like a real-world than any before them, they don’t actually fit in the proper definition of a metaverse.
Why? Because, within those games, you’re still only choosing from characters that the creators made to fit within a certain theme, and there’s no real way to build or create your own worlds or items within them, either. Everything is still done within a predesigned framework, even if it is a massive one.
Rather, games like Minecraft and Fortnite are far better representations of what we can and should expect from any sort of proper noun Metaverse in the future. Why so? Simply put, there are few, if any, restrictions to what a person can play as and what they can do.
Online games exist in a predetermined framework, while metaverses put few (or no) restrictions on what characters a person can play and what they can do or build.
Minecraft is obvious on the creation front. The game was literally made for players who enjoy exploring and building, giving them the tools to create almost anything they could think of using the game’s unique voxel art style. As the years went by, Minecraft’s updates have focused heavily on giving people the power to go beyond the in-game tools and create truly spectacular things — even games inside of the game.
Minecraft’s marketplace has created a coherent way for creators to take brilliant worlds and character models they’ve made and sell them for real-world money. You can be Buzz Lightyear, you can explore the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas, you can play one of the millions of original concepts and characters, or just create your own.
Fortnite, too, has taken up the mantle of allowing players to be just about anything they want. In fact, it may be the single best example of how incredible a proper metaverse can be when everything comes together. Don’t believe me? Check the video in this Tweet (opens in new tab) (written language warning) for what I think is likely the best single example I’ve seen for the game.
This sort of fandom mashup was only previously possible in bootlegged titles or fanfiction, yet here it is today in the most popular online game of all time.
As Goku runs through a field, the sound and visual flair of a Kamehameha rings on the horizon. Goku then jumps in the air and uses Spiderman’s web shooters to quickly web swing from tree to tree until he gets to the players who were just fighting, only to pull out Darth Vader’s Lightsaber and annihilate the player nearly instantly.
If that’s not enough to convince you, how about a Xenomorph from the movie Aliens dancing to a Wu-Tang Clan song (opens in new tab)? Or, how about characters from animes like Dragon Ball Z and Naruto – along with plenty of original characters – having the time of their lives (opens in new tab) in a virtual BTS concert?
This sort of fandom mashup was only previously possible in bootlegged titles or fanfiction, yet here it is today in the most popular online game of all time. That’s the power of the metaverse, and it’s something that’s really only materialized in the last few years as a real, living, breathing concept.
Spending more to get more

VR Chat isn’t just some online forum that gives people a more visual way to meet up and discuss current events. It’s an entire culture.
So, while Fortnite and Minecraft are probably two of the best examples of what you could call a metaverse in pop culture today, there is one more obvious example that exists only in VR: VR Chat.
As a completely free title, VR Chat is nothing short of mind-blowing and can be completely overwhelming for first-time users. VR Chat isn’t just some online forum that gives people a more visual way to meet up and discuss current events. It’s an entire culture, seen prominently in the festooning of catgirl avatars and a host of other things that you’ll really understand if you’re a regular user.
But, again, VR Chat isn’t just a place for people and their virtual avatars to co-mingle while they sit on their couches at night. It’s a place where people completely recreate classic games and even let you jump into the worlds of current-generation games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Just about everything you can think of has been remade in VR Chat. Whether it’s playing Among Us VR (opens in new tab) before the actual official game comes out later this year, drifting cars in Ridge Racer — with proper PS1-era visuals — blasting imps in the original Doom while playing as your avatar, or tagging walls in the ever-lovable Jet Set Radio, VR Chat has it all.
Essentially, think of Meta’s Metaverse as a combination of VR Chat and Pokemon Go, where people can interact with one another and make transactions anywhere they find themselves and on any device they feel like using.
So where does Meta’s idea of a Metaverse (capital M) come into play? While VR Chat’s aim is to be a virtual place for you to spend time with friends — including friends who don’t have a VR headset with the game’s desktop mode — Meta’s concept goes beyond the four walls in your home and includes your phone and any other digital device you might have on your person.
Essentially, think of Meta’s Metaverse as a combination of VR Chat and Pokemon Go, where people can interact with one another and make transactions anywhere they find themselves and on any device they feel like using.
It’s this complexity that’s going to be the hardest part, really, and it’s also what makes Meta’s Metaverse both the costliest and possibly the most transformative of all the metaverse concepts.
If we’re still comparing what it costs to pioneer other technologies, estimates put the initial investments into the creation somewhere around $125 million dollars, or roughly $235 million in today’s dollars. As The Information pointed out, Android took about $1 billion to create, while the original iPhone sits at around $3.4 billion.
With that being said, there’s little chance the folks doing the engineering at the time really had any idea what the internet would truly become or how vast its stores of knowledge would be.
Likewise, a proper Metaverse would be even more all-encompassing than the initial internet infrastructure simply because it needs to bring so many things together in one massive, congruent virtual universe. It’s no wonder such a design would be far more expensive and complex than the investment in a single product, as most of those comparisons point out.
A proper Metaverse would be even more all-encompassing than the initial internet infrastructure simply because it needs to bring so many things together in one massive, congruent virtual universe.
Given how monumentally transformative it could be, I’m not sure it’s even fair to try to compare any of these things together. It’s definitely fun to see how the numbers differ from one another — especially given that Meta looks to spend $70 billion on the development of the Metaverse over the next few years — but that cost also includes tertiary things like VR and AR headset development. More than $10 billion, to be specific.
But, if Meta is successful in figuring out a way to bring everyone’s favorite brands, characters, places, and games all in one place, accessible through almost any device you could imagine, and create an entire ecosystem that benefits real people with real money, it’ll have something truly transformational on its hands.
The fact of the matter is that it takes more than just imagination to make something as large and complex as a metaverse. It takes a lot of time, a lot of manpower, and a whole lot of money.
Whether Meta even hits the estimated $70 billion by 2026 is anyone’s best guess but, based on Meta’s recent hiring freeze and rumors that the company effectually won’t take on new employees at all in 2023 tells me that the cost-cutting measures have already begun, and what seems like a bizarrely large number right now will diminish by the time the money starts pouring back into Meta’s coffers from a more mature Metaverse concept.
In the meantime, we seriously need games like Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite on t...

Spinning out of discussion last night in the New York Comic Con bars is that comic boiok writer Scott Snyder has taken advantage of business meetings held at the show, to sign a new deal with ComiXology Originals for new creator-owned comic books to launch in 2023.
In the last couple of years, Scott Snyder has been creating new work with a variety of comic book creators, that has debuted first digitally through ComiXology Originals, heavily promoted by Amazon, and then issued in print through ComiXology’sprint partner Dark Horse Comics.
This will be on top of his creator-owned work through Image Comics such as Nocterra and Undiscovered Country, and through IDW, Dark Spaces: Wildfire with Dark Spaces: Good Deeds to follow next year. Here are a look at Scott Snyder’s ComiXology Originals lineup so far.
We Have Demons
Writer – Scott Snyder
Artist – Greg Capullo
We Have Demons features widescreen action and the kinds of jaw-dropping storytelling twists that have made Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo the bestselling creator duo of the last 25 years. In every folklore throughout history, there’s a struggle between “angels” and “demons” – between beings of goodness and monstrous beings of darkness. But what if this struggle, this war for the soul of humanity, wasn’t rooted in the mystical or supernatural, but in science? Our hero, Lam was named after the first female angel, “Lamassu.” She never really understood her father’s devotion to their small-town Unitarian church. And when he dies under mysterious circumstances, she starts to question everything she thought she knew. One night, a distraught Lam visits her father’s church looking for answers. What she finds there is a monster: a hulking demon named Chopper who claims to have worked with her father and now offers to work with her to solve her father’s murder. We Have Demons is full throttle entertainment by two comic book megastars, featuring action, conspiracies, secret organizations, monsters, mayhem, and a climactic war of good and evil with no less than the fate of the universe hanging in the balance.
Clear
Writer – Scott Snyder
Artist – Francis Manapul
Clear written by Scott Snyder with art and colors by Francis Manapul—Welcome to a world where people are able to connect to the internet like never before, where a neurological internet connection is transforming reality. Welcome to the world of Clear. A dazzling, sci-fi thrill ride into a strange dystopian future, in Clear, people connect to the internet neurologically and mediate the real world through the lenses of their eyes. Everything can be skinned to fit your preferences. There are custom skins for steampunk, old fashioned Hollywood glamour, and pornographic and fetish fantasies. If you can name it, you can live it. You choose how you see the world and no one knows what you’re seeing. In San Francisco, private detective Sam Dunes is working a case for a wealthy woman, spying on her husband, making sure the man isn’t buying illegal untraceable filters to make his wife look like someone else. Dunes has just finished tangling with the filter dealers when his old partner, tells him about the alleged suicide… of his ex-wife. When Dunes receives a gift from his dead ex-wife in the mail, Sam finds himself pulled into a wild and twisting mystery that stretches from the city’s deadly underworld to the even deadlier heights of the city’s wealthy and powerful elite.
Night of the Ghoul
Writer – Scott Snyder
Artist – Francesco Francavilla
Scott Snyder and Francesco Francavilla have entertained and terrified comic book fans, now these two modern masters of horror collaborate for the first time ever on Night of The Ghoul, a bloody reimagining of horror monsters that celebrates classic creature features, while creating a contemporary new kind of horror story. Shot in 1936, “Night of the Ghoul” by director T.F. Merritt was meant to sit beside “Frankenstein” and “Dracula” as an instant classic. But the legendary film never made it to the silver screen. A mysterious studio fire destroyed the footage and killed the cast and crew at the wrap-party. No footage was ever recovered…until now. When Forest Inman, a horror film obsessive, stumbles across a forgotten canister of footage, he just might have discovered the remnants of “Night of the Ghoul.” This discovery sends Forest on a dark odyssey to the California desert, where he’s warned by a mysterious old man that the film’s ghoul is far more than a work of fiction: it’s a very real monster who plans to kill him. Night of The Ghoul is a dazzling work of horror, intercutting between the present-day narrative and the story of the lost film (drawn by Francavilla in stunning black and white).
Barnstormers
Writer – Scott Snyder
Artist – Tula Lotay
Barnstormers written by Scott Snyder with art by Tula Lotay and colors by Tula Lotay and Dee Cunniffe—High flying adventure and romance fuel Barnstormers, a lush and unforgettable story set just after the First World War. It’s 1923 — the barnstorming era, where pilots fresh from the airfields of the Great War made a living taking civilians for joyrides in the sky for a small fee. One such man claims to be Preston Pike, a dashing war hero pilot, who has flown his way across the U.S. Southeast scrounging for customers while fleeing from his own demons. When a telephone operator says that a big crowd will be awaiting him in nearby Barnville, Preston races over. Instead of eager clientele, though, he finds himself crashing a wedding, and the party isn’t exactly thrilled. But when Claire, the would-be-bride, decides to make an early getaway, Preston unexpectedly becomes a Clyde to this vengeful Bonnie. Along the way they bond, confessing their secrets and engaging in a romance for the ages. Will all that change when the Pinkerton agent following close by finally closes in on them? Barnstormers is an intimate portrait of love and war — and a meditation on the dangerous level of trust required in both romance and aviation.
Dudley Datson and the Forever Machine

But what if a perpetual motion machine had been created? A machine this powerful would need to be the world’s most guarded secret. And for as long as it has existed, “the Forever Machine” has been pursued by the Needle’s Eye, a group of the rich, powerful and nefarious who seek to use it to fulfill their own desires… Enter Dudley Datson, a science-loving geek who goes to a school for gifted kids in Brooklyn, NY. His closest friend is his science teacher, Dr. Adara Shae. She’s brilliant and well known around the world, doing a residency at Dudley’s school, and recognizes his promise. She’s also the current protector of the Forever Machine… After the Needle’s Eye catches up to her, a dying Dr. Shae passses the Forever Machine to Dudley. And where the machine goes, its guardian mechanical dog Daedalus follows. Full of gadgets and tricks, able to speak, Daedalus becomes Dudley’s protector as they struggle to keep the Forever Machine away from the Needle’s Eye.
Canary
Writer – Scott Snyder

During the final days of the Gold Rush, one mining company in Colorado, pulled up radioactive Uranium, and then the mine then collapsed in on itself. Legends sprung up about the mine being cursed or even haunted. Now the Frontier is closed, the gold and silver mines have dried up. The country is becoming “civilized,” and yet in one stretch of the Rocky Mountains, a terrifying, new kind of violence is suddenly emerging. Random killings. People going mad and murdering neighbors, classmates without real cause. Cardano Price Forecast Can ADA Become 2022 Best Performer? Cryptonews
Cardano Price Forecast – Can ADA Become 2022 Best Performer? – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/cardano-price-forecast-can-ada-become-2022-best-performer-cryptonews/
Cardano price forecast is mostly neutral as the altcoin consolidates near the $0.4166 triple bottom support area. ADA has formed a descending triangle pattern on the daily timeframe, indicating a bearish bias among investors.
Cardano was among the few digital currencies hit particularly hard during the second and third quarters’ bear market. The value of ADA has fallen dramatically during the previous two months, falling more than 25%.
Can ADA become the best performer in 2022? Let’s find out!
Cardano Seeks NFT Community’s Interest
Despite unfavorable market conditions, the ADA team has been striving to attract attention from the NFT groups. Unfortunately for Cardano, their efforts were futile because the blockchain couldn’t generate significant NFT sales.
According to the graph, Cardano NFT sales have been relatively flat since September 28th. NFT sales skyrocketed on this date. The launch of a Cardano NFT gaming project could explain the rise.

Cardano’s DeFi Activity Continues to Decline
Declining DeFi activity could be another aspect working against ADA’s development. There was a significant drop in ADA’s TVL (total volume locked) value during the past month. Cardano’s total TVL was $135.39 million on August 1st, which peaked at $326 million on March 24th.
As of this writing, its TVL was $75.32 million, down 0.31% from the previous day. The Cardano team can increase the project’s survival prospects by focusing on expansion in the NFT and DeFi industries. Bearish indicators currently exceed bullish ones, making a bright future for Cardano seem unlikely.
Cardano’s Founder Bashes the XRP Community
In a recent tweet, Cardano co-founder and chief architect Charles Hoskinson vented his anger at the XRP community, saying he no longer wanted to interact with them.
After XRP supporters on Twitter started posting about “digging dirt” on the Input-Output CEO, Hoskinson accused them of propagating “conspiracies” about him.
Whereas the Ethereum co-founder has stated his opinion that most layer-1 protocols aren’t securities, he has criticized people who target current and former government workers and accuse the US Securities and Exchange Commission of corruption without providing evidence.
Hoskinson argued, “Howie has nothing to do with individual corruption.”
The founder of Cardano emphasized the futility of anger, adding that “cynicism” and “bullying” are similarly fruitless.
Cardano Price Review & Tokenomics
Cardano’s current price is $0.423166, with a 24-hour trading volume of $288 million. Cardano has fallen by 0.46% in the last 24 hours.
CoinMarketCap currently ranks #8 with a live market cap of $14.5 billion. There are 34.26 billion ADA coins in circulation, with a maximum supply of 45 ADA coins.
Cardano Price Forecast – Can ADA Become 2022 Best Performer?
Cardano has formed a descending triangle pattern, providing immediate support near $0.4166. Because descending triangle patterns tend to break on the lower side, the odds of a bearish breakout remain fairly strong.
The lagging indicator, the 50-day moving average, is extending an immediate resistance near the $0.4560 level, keeping Cardano in a bearish trend. The leading indicators RSI and MACD, on the other hand, are also indicating a bearish bias.
A spike in selling pressure could push the downtrend all the way to the $0.3915 or $0.3660 support levels.
On the upside, the downward trendline may extend resistance near $0.4466, and a break above this can push ADA towards resistance levels of $0.4689, $0.4895, or $0.5245.
Cardano does not appear to be the best performer in 2022 based on the fundamental indicators discussed above; however, a few altcoins are staying in the spotlight due to their massive performance. Let’s go over them quickly.
Cardano Alternatives – Tamadoge & IMPT Pumping
Over 165% from its yearly low of $0.01683, the meme coin Tamadoge is gaining popularity. OpenSea now sells the Ultra-rare Tamadoge NFTs, with a start price of 1 WETH. Tamadoge has become the 3rd biggest meme coin in the crypto space.
After only six days of the presale, the project’s native currency, the IMPT token, has already raised an incredible $2.4 million, having sold 133.36 tokens.
Even though the blockchain-based carbon credit marketplace began its auction during a bear market for cryptocurrencies, demand for the marketplace token remained high.

Tiktok is the most popular short video-creating platform which is being used by many users and follows the trend around the world. Common people have gained a lot of popularity by uploading short videos of their talents.
Through the platform, people got an opportunity to gain popularity by sharing several short videos with friends and relatives to gain popularity. The creator can share the videos and people can share the videos as well, but till now, by the time of writing, many of us do not even know who shares the video, as there is no feature on the platform which could make you see the list of people who shared the video of the creator.
Although there is no way to check on who has shared your Tiktok video but being a creator, you could see the number of shares your video is getting.
Here are some answers to your questions:
Can I see who shares my Tiktok videos?
When we make a video on TikTok, our main aim is to get maximum likes and shares. This would give us recognition and gain some social fame. So, if we post anything on the platform and in case it gets viral- then we certainly feel motivated.
Unfortunately, there is no way to witness who has shared our video on Tiktok as the platform does not reveal the identities of the other users who are sharing our video. A couple of years back, to see who has seen your TikTok videos (feature) use to ask users to have a TikTok Pro account. Unfortunately, this feature no longer exists. At present, only the number of shares could be seen by the page owner.
Why did Tiktok remove the feature of viewing the name of people who shared the video (TikTok Pro)?
TikTok is all about sharing videos on the platform is the key part of socialising but there are some restrictions as well. Though sharing videos on the platform is the main highlight, but there are certain restrictions.
Due to privacy concerns, you cannot see the profiles of people who share our videos. But you can track the number of times the video has been shared by other users on the platform.
How can I see the number of shares on the Tiktok platform?
If you want to know the number of shares your video has got, just follow the below step:
Open the Tiktok app
Tap on ‘Profile’ on the right bottom of the home screen
On the top-right corner, you will find three horizontal lines- tap on that
From the drop-down, tap on ‘Creator Tools
From the next window, tap on ‘Analytics’
there you will find the Engagement option- there tap on ‘Shares’
Then tap on ‘Content’
Here, you can tap on any specific video that you would like to check the shared history. There, the user will be able to only check the number of shares which will be visible in the next arrow itself.
You could also see the number of shares on your profile home screen. You can go to the top-right side of the video and there will be the number.

Fostering Retention: The New Normal Innovative Benefits To Offer Your Workforce CEOWORLD Magazine
Fostering Retention: ‘The New Normal’ Innovative Benefits To Offer Your Workforce – CEOWORLD Magazine https://collincountynewsonline.com/fostering-retention-the-new-normal-innovative-benefits-to-offer-your-workforce-ceoworld-magazine/
In a distributed workforce that includes multiple employees working in different locations, the role of the CEO is more complex than ever. As we unravel the long-term impacts of COVID-19 and enter new valleys marked by staggering economic inflation, there’s more stress and illness in our world. The most responsible leaders will cultivate environments where people feel comfortable discussing their challenges and provide resources for people dealing with these struggles.
How can business leaders foster a healthy culture, a strong sense of community, and high workforce retention in a job market that is becoming more remote and stressed by the day?
Benefits Matter
Benefits are more important to today’s workforce. The traditional employer-sponsored healthcare options are no longer sufficient because employees are significantly savvier when navigating new jobs in the marketplace. They’re paying closer attention to their benefits as a whole and their out-of-pocket costs.
Employers are focusing more on scientific advancements that offer insights into health and provide personalized treatments, such as genetic testing. An individual’s genetic insights are vital healthcare information, providing lifetime guidance for early detection and precision treatment.
Employees who receive coverage from their employers for genetic testing view them as caring and concerned for their overall well-being.
Other factors, such as flexible time off, are becoming increasingly important to the workforce. In a world where remote work is rapidly becoming the accepted norm, the standard two weeks of vacation time appears more archaic to most.
Additionally, continued learning has always been important for advancement in the workplace, and we see that it extends beyond traditional advanced education reimbursement programs. Employees want to know what their futures will look like and will gravitate toward companies they feel will invest in them beyond their current expertise, roles, and responsibilities. At Genomic Life, managers meet with team members annually to develop a structured plan that helps them meet their goals and reviews progress quarterly.
Fostering Community and Culture
People want to work for a purpose. Leaders must cultivate a culture where everyone is valued and empowered to use their talents to advance a mission. Employees want to actively participate in a company’s culture, where they are heard and feel that their ideas matter.
Clear, open, and two-way communication is essential in building community within the workplace – whether an employee is fully remote, hybrid, or back in person full-time. Making it a priority to meet one-on-one with employees provides an opportunity to learn about concerns, hear what’s important to them, and get to know one another.
As a CEO, it’s important that our employees know who I am and what excites me about the organization. Meaningful information can be covered in a brief 30-minute meeting, and the connection can foster trust.
It’s also critical to develop and maintain a healthy workplace culture. It’s been said that the true culture of a company is indicated by the worst behavior you tolerate. It’s easier to keep those bad behaviors in check with this perspective in mind. When we open our Monday all-hands meetings, we discuss one of our company’s values and how someone either witnessed it in action or was reminded of it. It’s a helpful way of holding each other accountable and reinforcing positive behavior.
From a more practical perspective, work-from-home guidelines benefit from documented policy and consistent implementation. With some of our employees wanting to travel and work internationally, we’ve made it a policy that they must work our hours of operation. In such cases, it’s essential to lead by example and follow the established protocols for working remotely because you can’t expect people to do what you aren’t willing to do.
As we influence culture and connection, we also must consider diverse perspectives.
Embracing Diversity
At Genomic Life we recognize the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This imperative is embodied in our mission of opening access to genomic medicine for everybody. Employers can offer new access opportunities to close the inequity gap for all of their employees. We understand that each person is unique and requires a personalized healthcare plan based on their genetic baseline.
More employers are emphasizing DEI initiatives within employee health benefits. A 2021 Employer Health Innovation Roundtable report showed DEI was a new and essential priority in the benefits space. It moved from number eight to number three priority.
Genetic testing can help decrease disparities in healthcare as genetic conditions are more common than previously known. Taking a genetic test and understanding the results empower an individual to take preventive action to avoid disease or improve outcomes.
Key Takeaways for Leaders
More than ever, we need to listen to employees and prioritize their humanity over their scope of work. As leaders, we must continue developing a culture where our employees are recognized for their ideas and contributions and feel heard and seen. We must think of the bigger picture as it relates to our workforce’s health, both physically and mentally. These efforts include consistently building trust, offering innovative benefits, and embracing diversity at all levels.

Small Businesses Get Creative To Hire Hard-To-Find Labor Yahoo Finance
Small Businesses Get Creative To Hire Hard-To-Find Labor – Yahoo Finance https://collincountynewsonline.com/small-businesses-get-creative-to-hire-hard-to-find-labor-yahoo-finance/
As some corporations slow the pace of hiring due to economic concerns, small business owners are falling behind when it comes to staffing up.
Almost two-thirds of small businesses were hiring or trying to hire in September, according to a report from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), but 46% reported they couldn’t fill those job openings, well above the 48-year historical average of 23%.
The difficulty in hiring has prompted some small business owners to seek more creative solutions to land labor, so they can grow their businesses or — in the worst case — just stay afloat.
“Small businesses are not expanding at the rate that they were in 2019,” Homebase Founder and CEO John Waldmann told Yahoo Finance Live. “It’s actually gotten so bad that we’ve seen small businesses closed out because they can’t hire…This is a real challenge to small businesses and if we’re going to solve this, it’s going to take a lot of different things — including making these jobs more attractive.”
(Photo: Getty)
Attracting, hiring, and retaining quality employees is often a challenge for companies of every size. It’s no easier in current times of low unemployment, high competition, and a red-hot labor market, making out-of-the-box ideas even more critical.
For Diana Manalang, owner of Little Chef Little Cafe in Queens, N.Y., that means hiring high schoolers to help weather the staffing shortages.
“It is working, they show up, they come to work for the most part,” Manalang said. “We feed them two to three meals a day. We buy them groceries, uniforms, and footwear. We also order takeout for them and we incentivize in any way like if we get free movie tickets or anything like that, [we] pass it along to them.”
Executive Home Care, a national franchise of in-home care providers, is addressing the labor shortage by changing their technology for onboarding, recruiting, and hiring.
“Getting our franchisees… in contact quicker with each of the candidates that apply has been one of the things that has helped us recruit more caregivers quicker,” Tim Hadley, CEO of Executive Home Care, told Yahoo Finance.
Another incentive that has worked: offering flexible work schedules.
“It’s not a standard 9-to-5 or 8-to-4 type job,” Hadley said. “People are able to work the hours that they want to work with that flexibility as well as a significant amount of out the job training and continuous training for the caregivers.”
Diana Manalang, owner of Little Chef Little Cafe, Queens, NY, hasn’t been able to find enough experienced workers for her business.
One perk, though, that many small businesses can’t accommodate — even though it’s risen in popularity since the pandemic — is remote work options.
“We’ve talked to a lot of folks that they want a job, but they want to work from home,” Larry Sutton, CEO and Founder of RNR Tire Express, a national franchise retailer of quality tires and custom wheels. “And unfortunately our type of business we’re in can’t do from home.”
What many business owners are doing is what has long been tried and true: offering more money. Just under half of owners reported raising compensation, according to the NFIB survey, while over a quarter plan to in the next three months.
But that may not be enough in this environment, said Allan Jones, CEO of Bambee, a company focused on solving complex HR problems for small businesses.
“Small business owners — unfortunately or fortunately — have to think about total incentive packages in ways that Fortune 500 companies have for a very long time. So not only do I make $2 more in minimum wage, but what are the other incentives and benefits of working at this organization beyond just the salary and compensation?” Jones said. “[Small businesses] notoriously do not think about total comp as a recruiting principle. They just think about cash but employees are now looking for that.”

Living With Chronic Pain? Relief Might Be Found At Wonsettler Physical Therapy & Specialized Health Observer-Reporter
Living With Chronic Pain? Relief Might Be Found At Wonsettler Physical Therapy & Specialized Health – Observer-Reporter https://collincountynewsonline.com/living-with-chronic-pain-relief-might-be-found-at-wonsettler-physical-therapy-specialized-health-observer-reporter/
Macy Guisto, a Physical Therapist at Wonsettler Physical Therapy & Specialized Health, located at 100 Wonsettler Road in Scenery Hill, sees the impact that chronic pain has on her patients on a daily basis.
She is fully committed to providing patient-centered care focused on empowering each patient to achieve their goals.
“If there is one thing I want you to know if you’re dealing with pain, it’s this – YOU CAN OVERCOME PAIN! IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY FOREVER. PAIN DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SOMETHING THAT INTERFERES WITH YOUR LIFE, AND WE CAN HELP!”
Guisto graduated from Thomas Jefferson University in May of 2020 with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Prior to Thomas Jefferson she earned her B.S. in Kinesiology from Penn State University. She started at WPT in June of 2021.
She said a large passion of hers is working closely with each patient to uncover what drives that individual most — tapping into this potential can allow the patient to excel immensely at achieving their goals.
“I pride myself on providing a holistic approach to patient care in which we focus not only on the physical aspect of movement optimization, but also the mental component,” she said.
Guisto said each patient receives an individualized plan of treatment.
“It is very individualized, so when somebody comes in and they complain about chronic pain, the first thing I want to do is make sure that person has time to tell their story and they really feel heard because ultimately everyone walks a different path,” she said. “I really need to know where that person is coming from in terms of their state emotionally and how that ties into their chronic pain, and how their chronic pain affects their everyday life, and how they are unable to do the things they love to do every day. We work together to overcome every obstacle that is in their way when they start moving their body again.”
Guisto said having a positive mental attitude is important.
“That is arguably the most important thing in my mind,” she said. “A part of overcoming that chronic pain is having a more open mindset and having more self-positive thoughts. That is easier said than done. I think that is one of the hardest things for people to overcome. They need to start believing that their life could be different.”
Guisto believes in Wonsettler Physical Therapy’s holistic approach.
“WPT provides me with the unique opportunity to connect with my patients on a deeper level during our 1-on-1 sessions to facilitate lasting healthy changes,” she said. “Within each session, I am truly able to gain a deeper appreciation for my patients journey thus far — in turn allowing me to guide them on this new path to health.”
Guisto said at WPT they like to conceptualize each patient’s pain recovery.
“We like to think of it like climbing a mountain,” she said. “Essentially the patient is the backpacker and the physical therapists are the pain coach and guide along that journey. You are creating this plan and there are going to be obstacles and it is going to be hard. My job and the other PT’s job is to sit down and highlight everything they have accomplished to this point. Our job is to celebrate those small wins and help them get through that obstacle and keep them going towards the summit of the mountain ultimately.”
Guisto said WPT also focuses on getting patients to live a healthier lifestyle.
“We compare a pain healing journey to climbing a mountain, which the patient is the backpacker and the physical therapist is the guide. During the climb we will face many challenges, we may come across a rocky path, a steep mountainous area, or even a cliff – the most important thing is that when facing each obstacle we stay steadfast in our climb. Despite these challenges we continue to the summit with the assistance of guide. During this trek we celebrate the wins, no matter how small to inspire the climber to continue. The summit is truly reached when the patient is able to achieve the massive goal or change that they set forth at the beginning of therapy.”
Guisto said witnessing a patient’s journey from start to finish is rewarding.
“It helps drive me to be so interested in helping someone in this community of people because it brings me so much joy and passion,” she said. “It keeps me going every day to facilitate a change like that. It makes me so excited that I can help someone see that their life can be remarkably different and they can do everything that they love, and they don’t have to be kept from that because of pain.”
Cliff Wonsettler, owner of Wonsettler Physical Therapy & Specialized Health, said he sees the joy in Guisto’s work helping others.
“She is somebody that sees the potential and opportunity in front of a person she is working with,” he said. “When that opportunity and potential is realized by the person, it gives her a ton of joy.”

What Channel Is Steelers Vs. Bills On Today? Time, TV Schedule For NFL Week 5 Game – Sporting News https://collincountynewsonline.com/what-channel-is-steelers-vs-bills-on-today-time-tv-schedule-for-nfl-week-5-game-sporting-news/
Josh Allen and the Bills welcome the Pittsburgh Steelers to Buffalo this Sunday in a battle between AFC rivals.
The Bills are coming off of their biggest comeback win since 2011 last week against the Ravens. They trailed 20-3 late in the first half before storming back to win 23-20 on a soggy afternoon in Baltimore. Allen bounced back from a rough start to finish with 283 total yards and 2 touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) to offset 1 interception.
It was an important victory for Buffalo after dropping a close game to Miami in Week 3, in which Allen threw for 400 yards but couldn’t find the end zone in the second half. Despite having to deal with a banged-up defense, they remain betting favorites to win the Super Bowl after moving to 3-1 on the season.
The Steelers, meanwhile, are facing a quarterback conundrum.
Starter Mitchell Trubisky was benched at halftime in Pittsburgh’s Week 4 game against the Jets, with rookie Kenny Pickett coming on to replace him. The former Pitt Panthers QB provided an offensive spark with 135 total yards and 2 touchdowns in the second half, but he also tossed 3 interceptions as the Steelers fell to a deflating 24-20 loss.
Now, the Steelers are expected to name Pickett the starter vs. the Bills.
“I think he did some good things,” Tomlin said. “I thought there was some energy there.”

The proprietary system gauges how much a coin can be manipulated by analyzing much money it took to shift its price over the last 24 hour period along with analysis of recent changes in volume and market cap. The gauge is between 0 and 100 with lower scores equating to higher risk while higher values represent lower risk.
InvestorsObserver is giving Metaverse.Network Pioneer a medium Risk/Reward Score. Find out what this means to you and get the rest of the rankings on Metaverse.Network Pioneer!
Trading Analysis
NEER’s risk gauge score translates to a moderate risk investment at the moment. Portfolio managers who heavily weigh risk assessment will find this gauge more relevant when attempting to avoid (or discover) more risky investments. NEER has traded -0.50% lower over the past 24 hours to its current price of $0.51. This shift has occurred while volume is below its average level and the coin’s market capitalization has fallen. The cryptocurrency now has a market capitalization of $9,922,646.38 while $189,126.74 worth of the coin has traded over the last 24 hours. The price change in relation to the degree of volume and market cap changes gives Metaverse.Network Pioneer an average risk rating.
Summary
The price volatility of NEER over the last 24 hours results in an average risk analysis due to its price volatility in combination with changes in trading volume, giving investors a reason to be not overly concerned on the coin’s manipulability as of now. Yellow Submarine Is The Most Incredible Tiny House You Can Actually Experience Yourself Autoevolution
Yellow Submarine Is The Most Incredible Tiny House You Can Actually Experience Yourself – Autoevolution https://collincountynewsonline.com/yellow-submarine-is-the-most-incredible-tiny-house-you-can-actually-experience-yourself-autoevolution/
As it so happens, the Yellow Submarine is also a unique tiny house you can experience and explore yourself, should you ever find yourself in Marton, New Zealand, as well as a brilliant example of upcycling. “Nothing is ever wasted, just transformed” could be the personal motto of Keith Lovelock, the retired radio technician who came up with the idea for it, way back in 2016, as he was sipping coffee in a yellow cafe.
For the past four years, the Yellow Submarine has been offered on Airbnb, allowing guests the chance to experience the unique space. However, it did not start out as a commercial enterprise: Keith wanted to build himself a toy in the family’s backyard, maybe one that he and the grandkids could one day enjoy together. In the process, he created a wonderful and very quirky project that shows just how much you can achieve through upcycling, with dedication, talent and an unbound imagination.
The Yellow Submarine started out as a fiberglass grain silo that the two bought online for as little as NZD$1 (US$ 0.56 at the current exchange rate). They needed something that would resemble the shape of a submarine, and this was just perfect. The silo was brought to their home, power-washed and painted yellow, and then Keith started improvising to further create the hull of the sub.
He created a plywood structure for the front end, adding radio and satellite dishes to create a more rounded shape. Once inside, you see that these dishes serve like slide-outs, except that they never move, expanding the space by creating small recesses. On top, he built a control tower with a roof made out of an upturned, discarded hot tub. Pieces of solar panels and a repurposed fan further create the illusion of a submarine.
As the name implies, the Yellow Submarine is a sort of a Beatles tribute, down to the way it’s anchored between redwoods in a “sea of green” like in the song. Depending on who’s staying it it, it can also serve a Cold War theme, or a steampunk one, because it has elements of both. “There’s no logic to this project at all. It’s just purely whimsical,” Keith once told the media. “Whimsical” doesn’t even begin to describe just how awesome this project is.
Access is done through a slow-rising front hatch off the front porch. Right away, as the video tour at the bottom of the page will show, you’re welcomed by a John Lennon mannequin and the distinct impression that, despite appearances, this is a spacious and comfy place.
There’s a kitchenette to the side, with a sink made from an old dresser, a microwave, and a decently-sized pantry. There’s also a lounge with a leather Chesterfield couch that can sleep two, and a small desk where you can handle correspondence of the most urgent kind. When you’re in charge of a crew and maybe even responsible for the fate of the world, some issues might not suffer delays.
Towards the “pointy end” is the crew’s quarters, with double bunks and an ensuite bathroom that still manages to offer a shower, sink and toilet even though it’s cramped inside a space that doesn’t leave much room to wriggle around. But, as Keith says, you can fit almost anything in a can of sardines if you try hard enough. Keith is a very funny – and smart – man.
Upstairs in the control tower, Keith put in a captain’s chair, and all sorts of gadgets and devices built from leftovers from his radio technician days. Also here is a sofa to recline in while taking in the amazing views.
The place is packed with amazing stuff that is handbuilt, upcycled or bought on the second-hand market. Gauges on the walls, plaques, maps and blueprints, vintage propaganda posters, and memorabilia like the “genuine” US Navy Mark V diving antique helmet that is actually a “brilliant” knockoff from India, all help tie in the theme beautifully.
The Yellow Submarine is 33 feet (10 meters) long and 16 feet (4.8 meters) high, and is hooked to the mains for power, but also has its own backup. There’s a small water heater that’s good for 5-minute showers, and no cellphone or internet because, duh, both are “impossible onboard a submarine.”
The construction was completed in early 2018, with Keith and Jen working on and off for about a year on it. The total cost for the project was of about NZD$20,000 (US$11,227) and “a bit of magic.” Getting to spend the night inside it or, for those of us who can’t travel there, getting a feel of the place through videos are both priceless.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon launch pilot tests for its upcoming digital rupee in a bid to increase awareness around its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
The country’s central bank announced the news on Friday, detailing that the digital rupee will be available for specific use cases during the pilot. In a statement, the RBI said the pilot program will help create awareness around the planned features of the digital rupee.
“It explains the objectives, choices, benefits, and risks of issuing a CBDC in India. The note also seeks to explain the Reserve Bank’s approach towards the introduction of the CBDC,” the central bank reportedly said.
The RBI has also released a concept note for the digital rupee, which talks about key aspects of the CBDC, including its technology and design, potential use cases of the digital rupee, issuance mechanisms, and more. In addition, it explores how the introduction of a CBDC would impact the banking system, monetary policy, financial stability, and privacy issues.
“As the extent and scope of such pilot launches expand, RBI will continue to communicate about the specific features and benefits of e₹, from time to time,” the RBI said.
The country’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had previously announced the launch of the digital rupee in her 2022-23 budget speech earlier this year. The announcement marked another clear indication that the Indian government is determined to launch a CBDC.
Addressing the Indian parliament, Sitharaman was quoted saying that the digital rupee will “lead to a more efficient and cheaper currency management system. It is therefore proposed to introduce the digital rupee using blockchain and other technology to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India.”
The RBI’s Harsh Stance Against Cryptocurrencies
Despite its push for a CBDC, the RBI has long maintained a harsh stance toward digital assets, arguing that the nascent asset class has no underlying value. The central bank has constantly warned investors and the government against crypto, citing volatility as well as risks of fraud and scams.
Earlier this year in July, the central bank asked the Indian Government to ban cryptocurrencies in the country, citing the “destabilizing” effect of this asset class on monetary stability. “The RBI is of the view that cryptocurrencies should be prohibited,” Sitharaman said in Parliament on July 18.
At the time, Sitharaman clarified that the RBI does not view cryptocurrencies as currencies, saying that every modern currency needs to be issued by the government or central bank. She claimed the value of cryptocurrencies rests solely on the speculations and expectations of high returns, which is why they have de-stabilising effects.
Made In America Is Back Leaving US Factories Scrambling To Find Workers CNN
Made In America Is Back, Leaving US Factories Scrambling To Find Workers – CNN https://collincountynewsonline.com/made-in-america-is-back-leaving-us-factories-scrambling-to-find-workers-cnn/
New York CNN Business —
US factories are humming, and manufacturers are scrambling to find workers as the pace of hiring hits levels not seen in decades.
Friday’s September jobs report showed US manufacturers added another 22,000 workers in September, increasing employment in the sector by nearly 500,000 over the course of the last 12 months.
The nearly 13 million workers employed in US factories make up the industry’s largest workforce since the Great Recession caused employment in the sector to plunge more than a dozen years ago. Since April, manufacturing employment has been growing at about a 4% annual rate, the fastest sustained pace of growth since 1984, when the sector had more than twice as large a share of US jobs.
And employers say they now are scrambling to fill even more jobs. The sector has had about 800,000 openings for most of the last year, despite the hiring binge, according to the Labor Department’s report.
With supply chains causing problems throughout the global economy, many US companies that depended on overseas suppliers have been shifting their focus to sources of parts and goods much closer to home.
“It was taking months for parts to not only get manufactured but come across and they decided they were willing to pay US manufacturing pricing to get that much faster,” said Hayden Jennison, president of Jennison Corporation, a Carnegie, Pennsylvania company that makes everything from fire fighting equipment to construction machinery. He said there’s enough demand for his goods to staff an entire additional shift at his factory. But even though he’s paying $20 to $30 an hour he can’t find the workers he needs.
“Hiring has been a problem since 2020,” Jennison said. “Hiring experienced candidates that understand the industry, and understand what they’re doing, has been very difficult.”
Typically factory jobs and output take a hit during economic downturns, as they did during the Great Recession. But even with fears of a recession rising now, industry experts don’t expect factory jobs to default to their familiar boom-to-bust cycle this time.
“I think we’re in uncharted territory,” said Jay Timmons, CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers. “For every 100 jobs openings in the sector we only have 60 people who are looking. I think it’ll take quite a while to fill that pipeline.”
Timmons said that pay in the sector is up 5% over the course of the last year, and he expects it to keep rising as manufacturers scramble for skilled labor.
Experts say one of the biggest problems manufacturers face in attracting workers is their perception of the nature of the job.
“We often take a look at the images of manufacturing and we see the sparks flying and a welding environment and perhaps it’s a little bit dingy, dark. But by and large our manufacturing jobs today are high tech,” said Eric Esoda, CEO of a not-for-profit providing consulting and training services to small- and mid-size manufacturers in Northeast Pennsylvania.
One group employers are looking to for more help: women. Manufacturing remains a male-dominated industry, with only 30% of hourly factory jobs held by women, according to NAM. But that’s up from 27% only two years ago, and the Manufacturing Institute, an education and workforce development arm of NAM, has various programs aimed at raising the share of women workers on factory floors to 35% by 2030.
Today less than 10% of private sector jobs are in manufacturing, compared to more than 40% at the end of World War II. But it is still a key sector of the economy, one that pays much better than many others. The Labor Department reports the average weekly wage for manufacturing jobs is $1,250, or $65,000 annually — 11% more than private sector jobs overall, and 81% more than retail jobs.

Now, the Cowboys face Texas Tech – a battle-tested group facing its fifth straight ranked opponent. The Red Raiders (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) already have wins over Houston and Texas, and they look forward to another challenge.
“We’re excited about it,” Tech coach Joey McGuire said. “It’s definitely helping us grow up as a football team and a football program. Our guys will be ready to play that game.”
Oklahoma State (4-0, 1-0) is riding quarterback Spencer Sanders’ elite play. He has 11 touchdowns passing and four touchdowns rushing to pace an offense that ranks fifth nationally with 47.8 points per game.
He’ll face a Texas Tech defense that believes in pressuring the quarterback. Linebacker Tyree Smith leads the way with 5.0 sacks.
“They’re going to come after us,” Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. “They’re going to blitz, stunt, twist, drop, rush three, rush four, bring safeties and do a lot of different things to try and pressure us. We have to get ready for lots of pressure and lots of blitzing.”
But the Red Raiders will need to be disciplined. Tech gave up 171 yards and three touchdowns rushing to Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez last week. Sanders can run, too – he has 185 yards on the ground this season.
“Spencer does a great job with his arm, but he also can beat you with his feet,” McGuire said. “So we’ve got to do a better job of containing the quarterback. Little bit different quarterback run game, but still can hurt you. Every bit as fast and athletic as the guy we just got through playing.”
Texas Tech’s offense is pretty good, too. The Red Raiders rank fourth nationally in passing offense with 362.2 yards per game.
“These guys are going to play fast, they’re going to spread out, they’re going to throw it 60 times and try to get the ball out to the flat,” Gundy said.
Donovan Smith leads the Tech offense. He has passed for 295 yards per game and has three rushing touchdowns. McGuire believes he’s a good player who has a chance to eventually play in the National Football League.
“He’s given us a chance to be in a lot of games,” McGuire said. “He’s a big guy that will step up and make some courageous throws.”
D-LINE DEPTH
Oklahoma State rotates an exceptional group of pass rushers.
Collin Oliver has three sacks and Tyler Lacy and Brock Martin have two. Kody Walterscheid and Trace Ford also are formidable. It’s a group McGuire called one of toughest defensive fronts in the country.”
Gundy believes that the depth at defensive end and on the defensive line overall might be helpful on Saturday.
“We’re getting into a game here where there very well could be 100 plays on both sides of the ball from the standpoint of we play fast and they play fast,” he said. “That depth could be important.”
RESPECT YOUR ELDER?
Gundy is 55 and McGuire is 51, but their resumes are much different.
Gundy is in his 18th year and has a career record of 153-69. McGuire is a first-time head coach trying to build something after spending the previous five years as an assistant at Baylor.
“If you think about coach Gundy, I mean he’s the guy that — we’re around the same age, but he’s kind of the old guy in the conference,” McGuire said. “What he’s been able to do year in and year out is pretty incredible.”
ONE-TWO PUNCH
Tahj Brooks and SaRodorick Thompson are quite the combination for Texas Tech. Brooks has rushed for 209 yards and four touchdowns and caught 19 passes for 105 yards and a score. Thompson has rushed for 223 yards and a touchdown and caught 10 passes for 58 yards and a score.
TOP RECEIVER
Oklahoma State’s Braydon missed most of last season with an injury, but the redshirt senior has returned with a bang. He leads the team with 360 yards receiving and is tied for the team lead with three touchdowns.
RING OF HONOR
Oklahoma State will add Bob Fenimore to its Ring of Honor on Saturday. The halfback nicknamed the “Blond Bomber” finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy vote in 1944 and third in 1945. He will join Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas.
The Chicago Bears chose Fenimore No. 1 overall in the 1947 NFL draft, and he was inducted into the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame in 1972.

Musk’s Acrimonious Twitter Bid Heads For Business School Case Study Immortalisation – Deccan Herald https://collincountynewsonline.com/musks-acrimonious-twitter-bid-heads-for-business-school-case-study-immortalisation-deccan-herald/
Elon Musk’s $44 billion Twitter takeover saga comes with all the drama necessary to be immortalised in case studies for future captains of industry, as the tycoon’s on-off pursuit of the social media platform and unique management style make for a union like no other.
The chief executive of electric car maker Tesla Inc performed a U-turn by proposing to buy Twitter at the agreed price having spent months trying to get out of the deal, just as a Delaware Court was getting ready to rule on the standoff.
“This is unique in many cases,” said Arturo Bris, Professor of Finance and Director of IMD World Competitiveness Center. “It is definitely a business school case study. Because it’s about poison pills, breakup fees, lawsuits, hostility.”

While there are examples of acrimonious or hostile takeovers such as AOL-Time Warner and Sanofi-Aventis-Genzyme, here the world’s richest man – who has long used his own Twitter account to press for more freedom of speech – is working to impose his will on another corporation.
Musk’s attempt to take over Twitter is “a gift to professors and students”, said Joshua White, a professor at Vanderbilt University, calling the situation “unprecedented”.
Unique Style
“Frankly I hate doing mgmt stuff,” Musk wrote in a text message to Twitter Chief Executive Parag Agrawal in the run up to making an offer for the company, according to legal documents related to the battle.
“I kinda don’t think anyone should be the boss of anyone,” he wrote, while another message noted he could “interface way better with engineers who are able to do hardcore programming than with program manager/MBA types”.
While the messages reflect his unusual approach to running a business, taking control of Twitter will mean managing it, at least initially. Musk has said he would take the reins as CEO but only until he finds a new executive with expertise in the media industry.
“What is to come is unclear,” said Donna Hitscherich, a Columbia Business School professor.
Musk did not respond to a request for comment on the challenges of running the company after such a contentious deal. Twitter declined to comment.
Academics and analysts say Musk should focus on restructuring the social media company’s business model after second-quarter revenue dropped amid the court battle and a weakening digital advertising market.
Musk has hinted at wanting to turn Twitter into what he called an “everything app” like the wildly popular WeChat in China which offers everything from banking to chatting. That will be difficult, analysts said, especially in the United States where consumers are already well served by multiple services.
Whether or how Musk pulls it off remains to be seen. What analysts and academics can agree on is that considerable energy and momentum could be sapped by what they forecast will be heavy turnover among Twitter’s staff and senior management.
Musk spent months criticising the company’s management and complaining about salaries, what he perceived as political bias and automated ‘bot accounts’ – of which he thinks there are many more than Twitter estimates.
Addressing employees directly in June, he said there needed to be “rationalisation of headcount and expenses” while stressing that staff, who currently have relatively free rein to choose where they work, should lean towards working in an office.
One thing is for sure: Musk is going to receive huge attention and scrutiny as he figures out how to run Twitter. Success or failure, it will be an instant business school classroom staple, experts say.
“I’m really, really looking forward to the end,” said Bris. “So I can teach this case in class.”

100 And Counting: Pekin Woman Shares Secrets To Becoming A Centenarian – Pekin Daily Times https://collincountynewsonline.com/100-and-counting-pekin-woman-shares-secrets-to-becoming-a-centenarian-pekin-daily-times/
An important key to living to be 100 is obviously a healthy lifestyle.
For Dot Schoch, who celebrated her 100th birthday this month, that lifestyle begins with an exercise regimen.
“Every morning when I come in to work, Dot’s in our fitness area on a stationary bike,” said Kim Swise, director of sales for Cedarhurst of Pekin assisted living facility, where Schoch now resides. “She’s always got her eyes closed and she’s pedaling away. She stays active, and a body in motion stays in motion.”
Schoch, of Pekin, said she has always done something to keep up her physical condition, focusing on activities like swimming and bicycling. She has also always been aware of the importance of a healthy diet that featured fresh produce grown in the garden she and her late husband, Larry, used to keep. And she believes that one secret to her longevity and continued health is that she knew what not to do.
“I’ve never smoked, and I’ve never drank,” Schoch said.
Although she no longer travels, some of her favorite memories include meeting new people when she and Larry took trips to Europe or to Florida. She also recalls the excitement around her when researchers at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research in Peoria, where she worked for 35 years, discovered a way to manufacture penicillin.
“It was all you heard about at work,” Schoch said. “It ended up saving a lot of lives.”
More:‘Woo-hoo!’ State-microbe designation would honor penicillin and Peoria
In addition to a physically active lifestyle and a proper diet, Schoch believes social activity is a vital part of a long and full life. She is now a fixture at Cedarhurst bingo games and seldom misses a Cedarhurst movie night.
“I like the musicals,” Schoch said. “I don’t care for Westerns. John Wayne’s good, but some of the movies are terrible. ‘Gone With the Wind’ is my all-time favorite.”
Schoch’s 100th birthday on Oct. 4 began like any other day, with a session in Cedarhurst’s fitness area. From there, she went on to a busy round of meetings, media availabilities, birthday parties, and time with family members. Swise expressed some concern that Schoch might find the day’s busy schedule taxing, but Schoch’s great-niece, Susan Henning, maintained that she would have found a way to keep her social calendar full even without the milestone.
“When we started the discussion about Dot moving into assisted living, I asked if there was one in the Peoria area where she had a lot of friends,” Henning said. ”She said, ‘That doesn’t matter. I can make more friends.’ I thought that was really sweet.”
