STEUBENVILLE — The third-annual Red Ribbon Week Community Walk will be Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Jim Wood Park gazebo and track.
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign.
The Red Ribbon walk was established in 2017 by the Adult Drug Court Program, now Phoenix Program, under Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Michelle Miller. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 walks were canceled.
“The drug court team may work with adults but we’re also huge supporters of early education and drug-use prevention with our youth,” said Laura Trifinoff, the program coordinator. “It’s so important to the entire team that we help educate and protect our youth against the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol.”
Trifinoff said they did a lot of advertising this year, distributing fliers in schools and posting yard signs throughout the community, and they’re hoping to get “a significant number of kids and families” at this year’s event.
“It’s a community event to get kids and families out to celebrate being drug free and to educate,” she said, adding there will be 15 different treatment centers/community partners there to distribute information, along with DJ Ralph Parissi; Kurt James Fun and Games with its ‘Hippo Chow Down’ life-sized Hungry Hungry Hippo and the Mega Thrill 3 Lane Obstacle Course; face painting; drawings for children and parents who sign the ‘Red Ribbon Pledge’, giveaways and more.
“We were able to partner with the United Prevention Partnership and Drug Free Communities Program to be able to offer a lot more this year than we ever have in the past,” she said. “The walk is just a fun, or buddy, walk to encourage exercise and healthy living. There will be a lot of first responders and law enforcement joining us to show their support and to interact with the kids. Also, one of our graduates will be speaking.”
She said the event “is entirely free to the public.”

Everything You Need To Know About Samsung Galaxy A53 5G
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G takes what was good about its predecessor and (mostly) makes it better. It also costs less. It’s not flawless, but Samsung didn’t solve what wasn’t cracked, and the fact that it gets great updates means that this cheap phone will still be up-to-date for a long time after others have become obsolete.
It is the follow-up to the Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A52s, which were very popular in 2021. Even though it isn’t too different from its predecessors, Samsung seems to have made many improvements to its famous Galaxy A device in the right ways. The configuration with 6GB of RAM as well as 128GB of storage is now available. There is also a better version with 8GB of RAM plus 256GB of storage space, but it is harder to find in most markets. No matter which phone you select, you can add more storage by using the microSD card slot.
You’ll have a Super AMOLED 6.5-inch screen, just like the Galaxy A52 5G before it. It looks great, with a 120Hz responsive refresh rate and a Full HD+ resolution. The back of the A53 5G is made of plastic, but the screen is made of Gorilla Glass 5. It is also certified by IP67 to be safe from water and dust.
Samsung’s mid-range device now has a 5,000mAh battery, which is 500mAh more than before. However, the 25W wired Standard USB Delivery charging is still there. The cameras haven’t changed either. The main lens, which has 64MP, is still the best part. It also has 12MP ultrawide, 5MP depth lenses, and 5MP macro to give you more options, but these are all the same as the ones on the last generation of phones.
The Galaxy Samsung A53 5G does join a bad trend that has been happening with cheap phones in recent years: it comes with less stuff than ever. Samsung no longer gives budget devices a charger. Instead, they come with a Charging USB type C cable and a tool to take out the SIM card. You also get some important paperwork to help you get started, but that’s about it.
Has The Look Changed In Any Way?
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G makes it clear that it comes from the same family. Except for a few millimeters here and there, it’s almost the same as the one that came before it. The lack of innovation isn’t a negative thing for this device, especially since it’s not nearly as old as the iPhone SE, which is its most famous competitor (2022). All of the ports, buttons, as well as cameras are in the same places, making it easy to pick up and then go. The only thing that isn’t clear is why the microphone is stuck between the SIM tray on the left and the USB connection on the bottom edge. Watch where you put the ejector tool.
Even the matte plastic back of the Galaxy A53 5G feels like it has been around since last year. It doesn’t look as nice as glass, it doesn’t show fingerprints, and it does come in four “awesome” colors: white, blue, black, and peach. The plastic goes all the way through to the camera shelter, which is a bit raised but still has a simple feel.
The Galaxy A53 5G is a majestic phone, but that’s because it has a big screen. It is a few millimeters taller than the Galaxy S21 FE and just a bit taller than the Pixel 6. Both the mid-range phone from Samsung and the cheap flagship phone from Google are 74.8mm wide. The 189g mass feels solid but not too heavy when you hold it. The Galaxy A53 5G is the same thickness as it was last year; however, the metal side rails give the impression as it belongs to Samsung’s best Galaxy S22 family. Samsung has been rounding off the edges of its phones to make them easier to hold. This makes a phone that is definitely big feel a lot easier to use.
The phone has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, which is the same as the one on the Galaxy A52 5G. It’s the perfect example of why you shouldn’t fix something that isn’t broken. You get a pointed Full – HD resolution, a seamless adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, and a maximum brightness of up to 800 nits. In the Motion Sleekness menu, you also can lock the screen to 60Hz and save battery.
All four sides have thin bezels, but the bottom and top are a bit thicker. The only thing that gets in the way of streaming is the selfie camera in the middle, which is tiny enough to be simple to overlook. If you zoom into it to fill the screen, it will snip into your picture a little bit. However, Samsung’s default video playback conceals the cam in a black bar. The front-facing camera on the Galaxy A53 5G also has a small silver ring around it. But it doesn’t stand out much more than the side of a screen protector.
The headphone jack has been taken out of the Galaxy A53 5G, which is one of the most noticeable changes. It’s been slowly disappearing from low-cost devices, so this time it’s likely been given up for a bigger battery (more on that later). The quality of construction and how long it lasts haven’t changed, though. This phone is still very well made.
How Well Does The Camera On The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Work?
We said that Samsung hadn’t changed the camera on the Galaxy A52 5G, which isn’t a bad thing, just like the familiar design. The 64MP main sensor takes great pictures no matter what, and it has a lot of shooting modes, so you can be creative. By default, it reduces photos to 16MP, but it’s easy to switch to full-resolution shots. You also get a 5-megapixel macro lens, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 12MP ultrawide detector with just a 123-degree angle of view.
You can try out a lot of different shooting modes, but one of the most unique is called “Fun.” It works like a Snapchat filter: you find a face nearby and select the filter to use.
Most of the Galaxy A53 5G’s power comes from its 64MP main lens, which you can see in most of the pictures above. For example, the picture of a lantern was taken with a point-and-shoot camera and the natural bokeh effect rather than a portrait effect.
Final Thoughts
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is a great phone, but it isn’t perfect. The biggest issue is the lack of a headphone jack, which could be a dealbreaker for some people. However, if you can look past that, the Galaxy A53 5G is a great option, especially if you’re looking for an affordable 5G phone.

South Korean police have seized $1.3 million worth of crypto in criminal investigations so far this year, official numbers have revealed.
According to Segye Ilbo, the figure is just a small fraction (1.4%) of the total $92 million worth of assets seized by officers in criminal investigations.
The data was compiled by the National Police Agency and made public by Choi Ki-sang, a Democratic Party lawmaker. It includes figures from the “first half” of 2022, with a total for the year unlikely to be made public until the middle of 2023.
The statistics also showed that officers have asked courts to let them confiscate cryptoassets in 13 separate cases this year. In 2021, officers made 36 such requests – and only made eight requests in the whole of 2020.
$1.3 m Seized: Officers ‘Can’t Keep up with Criminals’
Critics claim that the modest figure of $1.3 million shows that the police simply lack the knowledge and IT capabilities required to fight Web3-era crime. They claim that officers are unable to keep up with criminals – with some stating that crypto-powered money-laundering is actually rising sharply in South Korea.
The police force last year announced the launch of a network of specialized crypto teams, while the government is set to respond by launching a new crypto regulator. And, more recently, the nation’s prosecution service announced that it is ready to spend big on sophisticated crypto monitoring tools.
But despite claims that officers are getting better at stopping crypto-related crime, experts beg to differ.
Lee Woong-hyuk, a Professor of Policing at the elite Konkuk University, was quoted as stating:
“Money-laundering technology related to cryptoassets becomes more complex and more intelligent as the years go by, but investigative agencies […] cannot keep pace. There may be a need for government-level [intervention] to increase the amount of [illicit crypto seized in criminal investigations] and support investigations in cases related to cryptoassets.”

YEOJU, South Korea, Oct 19 (Reuters) – South Korean and American troops practiced building floating bridges to ferry tanks and other armoured vehicles across rivers on Wednesday, part of a larger joint military exercise that has angered North Korea.
South Korean attack helicopters deployed flares and armoured vehicles blew white smoke screens into the air as main battle tanks, armoured personnel carriers, and other military vehicles crossed pontoon bridges over the Namhan River near Yeoju, south of Seoul.
The drill involved armoured “attacking” forces of the South Korean army’s 11th Mobile Division, which is participating in the 12-day Hoguk 22 field exercises, crossing bridges established by South Korean and U.S. engineering units.

About 1,000 South Korean and U.S. troops participated on Wednesday, with about 50 tanks and other armoured vehicles, KF-16 fighter jets, Apache and Cobra attack helicopters, and more than 140 pieces of engineering equipment such as floating bridge units, according to South Korea’s defence ministry.
Nearby, residents water skied on the river and rode by on riverside bicycle paths.
The drills simulated a so-called wet gap crossing, military jargon for any obstacle filled with water, such as a river, said Captain Sean Kasprisin, a company commander in the U.S. Army’s 11th Engineer Battalion, calling it “tough and realistic training”.
In a war, such operations might be required if bridges were knocked out by bombing, or if an army wanted to surprise its opponents by crossing away from established bridges or roads.
“Developing river-crossing capabilities is a key factor that can make or break wartime operations given the Korean peninsula’s geography with many rivers,” said Lieutenant Colonel Won Seong-hoon of the South Korean 7th Engineer Brigade.
South Korea uses an older version of U.S.-made bridging equipment, and one span was assembled using elements from each side, allowing troops to practice combining the different systems.
“A lot of rivers can vary in how far across they are, so we don’t know where we need to deploy,” Kasprisin said. “So if that length is too far, then we need to be able to work together.”
Despite the tensions with North Korea, U.S. soldiers said they rarely had time to ponder geopolitics during the drills.
“The only thing on our mind is the training and making it realistic and effective,” Kasprisin said.

If you’ve flown in a passenger plane, then your pilot was probably trained with a CAE flight simulator, built in Montreal — and now, the 75-year-old company is being recognized for its role in Canadian aviation with a new Canada Post stamp.
Canada Post’s Canadians in Flight series is promoting five pioneers in Canadian aviation, including CAE’s full-flight simulators.
“I think there is a lot of pride for us to be featured on this stamp,” said Samantha Golinski, CAE’s vice-president of public affairs. “I feel it really roots us in our Canadian heritage as a Canadian company born right here in Montreal.”
CAE, which stands for Canadian Aviation Electronics, was founded in 1947 by former air force officer Ken Patrick. Its beginnings were modest: it started with about 13 employees, Golinski said. Now, it has over 13,000 employees across the world, with some 4,000 based at its headquarters in Montreal.
Although flight simulators were created during the Second World War, CAE built the first Canadian commercial flight simulator in 1955.
The company says that in 2018, it had 70 per cent of the worldwide market share of flight simulators, making it a leader in the field.
Pilots from airlines across the world fly to Montreal to train on the machines, which are programmed to look like cockpits of aircraft including the Boeing 737, the Airbus 220 and more.

“The CAE flight simulator was an obvious choice for inclusion in this series, as it revolutionized the way pilots learn to fly,” said Canada Post in a statement.
In the 1980s, CAE developed a flight simulator so realistic that not all flight training had to be completed on actual aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration now recognizes an hour in an approved simulator as the equivalent of an hour in the air.
That makes simulation a much more environmentally friendly option for pilot training.
“When the pilot flies a real aircraft for the first time, it’s with passengers in the back,” Golinski said. “When you train on a simulator versus the real aircraft, you save tons of carbon.”
In addition to the CAE stamp, Canada Post has also issued new stamps celebrating one of Canada’s first female bush pilots, Violet (Vi) Milstead, the Canadian-made de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver aircraft, Wallace Rupert Turnbull, the creator of the variable-pitch propeller, and Wilbur R. Franks, who developed the world’s first anti-gravity suit used in combat.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Democrat Beto O’Rourke on Tuesday suggested that his opponent, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, would not concede if he were to lose a close race.
“I’m not counting on it,” O’Rourke told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s editorial board. He said Abbott has openly embraced former President Donald Trump, “who himself tried to subvert this democracy.”
Abbott’s campaign previously told the Texas Tribune that the governor will accept the results in the gubernatorial race.
O’Rourke referenced an audit of the 2020 election results in Dallas, Harris, Tarrant and Collin counties after Trump wrote Abbott in September 2021 to ask for an audit. Initial results found few problems in Tarrant County.
In a text Tuesday, Abbott spokesperson Mark Miner reiterated that Abbott would accept the election results.
“Beto’s comments represent someone who has completely lost touch with reality and may be experiencing a mental breakdown,” Miner said. “Of course Governor Abbott will accept the results of the election.”
Following the lead of Trump, some members of the Republican Party have disputed the results of the 2020 election, falsely claiming there was voter fraud.
“Though we are lucky as a country that ultimately the president was sworn in despite the attempt to block the counting of the Electoral College votes, that threat has not passed,” O’Rourke said. “And I don’t think it is anywhere more dangerous than right here in the state of Texas where it’s harder to vote and harder to register to vote than in any other state in the union, and where we have those in public office and those running for public office who will refuse to admit that President (Joe) Biden is the president of the United States.”
Texas in 2021 passed a law that supporters said bolstered the integrity of elections. Opponents said the policies would disenfranchise voters.
O’Rourke said he has a team prepared to make sure the will of voters is honored.
“I will absolutely honor whatever that outcome is, as I have before in every election I’ve participated in,” O’Rourke said.
Abbott has led O’Rourke in recent polls, but the difference between the two candidates has been in the single digits.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett will practice on Wednesday and will play next Sunday night against Miami if he clears the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Pickett will have “no restrictions” in practice this week and the plan is to stick with Pickett if he’s available rather than turn to backup Mitch Trubisky, who played well in relief of Pickett in a 20-18 victory over Tampa Bay last week.
“If Kenny Pickett is cleared to play, he’ll play,” Tomlin said.
Pickett left in the third quarter against the Buccaneers after being legally knocked to the ground by Tampa Bay linebacker Devin White. He lay on the Acrisure Stadium turf for several moments, stood up but then sat back down as officials ordered members of Pittsburgh’s medical staff to tend to Pickett.
The 20th overall pick in the draft made his way to the sideline and then to the training room for the examination and did not return. Trubisky, who was benched for Pickett at halftime of a loss to the New York Jets on Oct. 2, passed for 144 yards and a touchdown as the Steelers (2-4) snapped a four-game losing streak.
Tomlin praised Trubisky for his contributions, but has no plans to go back to Trubisky if Pickett is good to go.
“We’re not going to blow in the wind,” Tomlin said. “We’re going to be somewhat steady. I’ve been consistent in my messaging regarding the decision-making at that position. I think it helps those that are playing. I think it helps the team in terms of who to follow. And we’re not going to flip the script now.”
Pickett completed 11 of 18 passes for 67 yards and his first NFL touchdown pass before leaving. The former University of Pittsburgh star is 55 of 83 for 514 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions in a little more than two games.
Pickett is the fifth Steelers player to enter the concussion protocol this season. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick did not miss a game after going into the protocol following a loss to Cleveland last month. Safety Terrell Edmunds missed one game after getting hurt against the Jets.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth and cornerback Levi Wallace sat out last week after sustaining concussions against Buffalo. Tomlin indicated both players could possibly be available on Sunday night.
The Steelers could have the majority of their starting secondary available after only one regular — Edmunds — played against the Buccaneers. Wallace, Fitzpatrick (knee), Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) and Cam Sutton (hamstring) all sat out as Pittsburgh beat Tom Brady for just the fourth time in 16 tries during Brady’s long career.
Tomlin said the play of little-used backups or practice squad players such as Elijah Wright and Quincy Wilson is Tomlin’s “standard is the standard” cliche come to life.
“When guys get an opportunity to ascend and make plays and positively contribute to a winning effort, it solidifies and hopefully is inspirational for those that are still very much in development awaiting their opportunities,” he said.
NOTES: Tomlin declined to confirm or deny a reported confrontation between Trubisky and wide receiver Diontae Johnson at halftime of the Jets’ game, right before Trubisky was benched. “If it transpired, good. It probably means there’s a couple of guys that wanted to win,” Tomlin said. “If it didn’t transpire, that probably means that it should have because we are aggressively pursuing victory.” … Tomlin also called the return of former Miami head coach Brian Flores — now a senior defensive assistant in Pittsburgh — a “non-factor.” Miami fired Flores last January, starting a series of events that concluded with Flores suing Miami and the NFL among others alleging racist hiring practices. The civil case remains in the courts.

AR and VR services provider Flowing Cloud was officially listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on October 18 as its first metaverse-related stock, with an opening price of HK$2.21 ($0.28) per share, equal to the issue price. However, shares then saw a 2.36% fall to HK$2.07 on October 19, resulting in a total market value of about HK$3.747 billion.
Flowing Cloud’s prospectus is rather striking, as it mentions “metaverse” more than 300 times. Founded in 2008, Zhangzhong Feitian Technology, the predecessor of Flowing Cloud, was listed on the National Equities Exchange and Quotation (NEEQ) in 2017. It was aimed at the mobile game market, then gradually turned to AR and VR, withdrawing from the NEEQ in 2019. In 2021, when the metaverse concept suddenly became a hit, the company built a new platform and in November changed its name to Flowing Cloud, announcing its strategic layout in the metaverse field.
AR and VR devices, as front-end entrances to the metaverse, are full of potential again. Flowing Cloud stated in its prospectus that AR and VR are the key applications to achieve and empower the immersive experience of the metaverse, and that they are the prerequisites and entry thresholds for its development stage.
Therefore, AR and VR marketing services have now become the most important source of income for Flowing Cloud. According to data from iiMedia Research, Flowing Cloud ranks first in the AR/VR content and services market in terms of revenue, accounting for a 2.6% total market share in 2021.

From 2019 to 2021, its AR/VR marketing services business achieved revenues of 137 million yuan ($18.9 million), 142 million yuan and 376 million yuan respectively, accounting for 54.6%, 41.9% and 63.2% of its current revenue. In addition, AR/VR content business achieved revenues of 45 million yuan, 115 million yuan and 161 million yuan, accounting for 18.1%, 33.9% and 27.1% of the current revenue. In addition to the above business, the company also provides AR/VR SaaS and IP business.
Financial data show that from 2019 to 2021, Flowing Cloud’s revenue was 250 million yuan, 339 million yuan and 595 million yuan respectively, and its net profit increased year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2022, the company’s net profit was 40.2 million yuan, up 316% year-on-year, of which the gross profit margin of AR/VR content production business reached 55.3%.
Its impressive performance has attracted several key investors for Flowing Cloud. Through its recent listing, Flowing Cloud introduced cornerstone investors such as Anji State-Owned Assets Management, Qicai Lingfeng and SenseTime. The three parties subscribed to the offering shares of Flowing Cloud of about 167 million yuan in total.
However, stagnant R&D investment that does not match income growth has caused Flowing Cloud to be called into question. In 2019, 2020, 2021 and the first quarter this year, the R&D expenditure of Flowing Cloud was 11.425 million yuan, 15.046 million yuan, 21.703 million yuan and 8.152 million yuan respectively, accounting for only 4.6%, 4.4%, 3.6% and 3.6% of the total revenue in the same period, showing a decreased trend.

In its prospectus, the company stated that the underlying technology is its core competence, and in the past, the company subcontracted non-core technology development and interactive content modules to third parties. Its R&D team has 59 full-time employees, including 28 engineers and 21 designers, accounting for about 43.1% of all employees.
Although Flowing Cloud seems to be oriented squarely within the metaverse field after a name change, many have doubted the extent to which metaverse represents its core business. Investors noticed many expectations and goals rather than real achievements in the firm’s prospectus. Thus, there is still a long way to go from concept to application.

It hasn’t been long since Apple released iOS 16.0 with over 350 new features, but iOS 16.1 is hot on its tail with even more cool updates for your iPhone. While some of the recent upgrades were expected, others are somewhat surprising — and there’s even one that you may not even think was possible.
Apple’s iOS 16.1 update is still in beta testing, but you can install the beta on your iPhone right now if you want to start testing the below features out before everyone else. However, Apple will release iOS 16.1 to everyone on Oct. 24, so it might be best to wait for the stable update if you’re not already a part of beta testing. (Some of these features also appear on iPadOS 16.1 for iPad, also still in beta.)

1. Larger Numbers for Battery Percentage
On iOS 16.0, Apple finally added a switch in the Battery settings on Face ID devices to enable the battery percentage in the status bar, something Touch ID devices have long been able to do. The update put the percentage inside the battery icon, and iOS 16.1 makes the numbers larger and easier to see. Below, you can see the icons before and after in light and dark modes.
2. Battery Percentage for More iPhones
While iOS 16.0 lets us add the battery percentage to the battery icon in the status bar on Face ID devices, it’s not available on all Face ID models. Specifically, the iPhone XR, 11, 12 mini, and 13 mini are left out, presumedly because of their smaller displays. The iOS 16.1 update adds support for those models, so now all iPhone models that can run iOS 16 can get the new battery icon.
3. Clean Energy Charging
Go to Settings – Battery, then open up the “Battery Health & Charging” menu, previously just “Battery Health,” and you’ll see a new option called “Clean Energy Charging.”
Apple says your iPhone “will try to reduce your carbon footprint by selectively charging when lower carbon emission electricity is available.” It goes on to say your iPhone “learns from your daily charging routine so it can reach full charge before you need to use it.”
The setting should be automatically enabled by default, but the “Learn More” link goes to a non-existing webpage, which should go live when iOS 16.1 stable is released.
4. Live Activities
Live Activities are finally here. They appear on the bottom of your iPhone’s lock screen, as well as in the Dynamic Island for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, and display an app’s most current data, updated in real time.
Live sports games in the Apple TV app is one example of what Live Activities can do. Pick a live game available in your region from the Live Sports section, then tap the “Follow” button. You’ll then see the play-by-play and real-time scores on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max. Right now, I can only get it to work with MLB games.
According to Apple, a Live Activity can only be active for up to eight hours in the Dynamic Island, but it can go as long as 12 hours on the lock screen. So on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, a Live Activity would disappear from the Dynamic Island after eight hours but remain on your lock screen for up to four more hours. Needless to say, you can stop following a Live Activity at any time.
There are also four different viewing modes for Live Activities in the Dynamic Island: a compact leading view, a compact trailing view, a minimal view, and an expanded view.
5. Live Activities API
Live Activities aren’t just available for Apple’s apps — any third-party developer can incorporate them into their apps using the new ActivityKit framework. Examples of activities you could track include a ride pickup from Uber or Lyft, package delivery from UPS or FedEx, food delivery from GrubHub or DoorDash, pickup order for Starbucks or Target, workout using Nike or Health, and so on.
While developers are now building Live Activities for their apps, you won’t be able to try any out until the iOS 16.1 stable release appears. That’s because developers can’t submit their updated apps with Live Activities to the App Store until the iOS 16.1 Release Candidate is available, the last beta build. You may be able to find beta apps on TestFlight that are experimenting with Live Activities.
6. Download In-App Content Before First Launching Apps
There’s a new toggle in Settings – App Store for “In-App Content,” which will “automatically run apps in the background to download content before you first launch them” when enabled. You’ll notice the change mostly in games and navigation apps that need a lot of resources to run correctly. The App Store has file size limits, but developers can push the required resources after the initial app installation.
It is unclear if the feature only applies during the app’s initial installation or if it can also install new in-app content in the background after manually or automatically installing an app update. After installing the iOS 16.1 update, this toggle should be enabled by default.

7. Subscribe to Fitness+ Without Apple Watch
Before iOS 16.1, you had to have an Apple Watch to subscribe to Fitness+ in the Fitness app. Now, you don’t need one, but you’d be missing out on all the health and fitness metrics displayed on the Apple Watch during a workout. If you don’t care about that data and just want to follow along to a workout session, Fitness+ is now a viable option.
8. New Shortcut Actions
The iOS 16.0 update added almost 60 new actions in the Shortcuts app, and iOS 16.1 throws a few more in. The first is “Get Current Focus” for the Settings app, which returns the currently active focus. The second is “Search in Shortcuts” for the Shortcuts app, which opens Shortcuts and performs a search for the specified text. And the third is “Open Smart List,” which opens a specific smart list in Reminders.

9. Better Categories for Shortcut Icon Glyphs
On iOS 16.0.3. and earlier, whenever choosing a shortcut icon, the icon picker would categorize all the glyphs by Objects, People, and Symbols — that’s it. (Left GIF below.) With such few groups, it’s better just to use the search tool.
On iOS 16.1, there are now categories for Accessibility, Arrows, Automotive, Camera & Photos, Commerce, Communication, Connectivity, Devices, Editing, Fitness, Gaming, Health, Home, Human, Indices, Keyboard, Math, Media, Nature, Objects, Objects & Tools, People, Privacy & Security, Shapes, Symbols, Text Formatting, Time, Transportation, and Weather, not necessarily in that order. 10. Glyphs for Shortcuts Show in Multiple Categories
With almost 30 categories now for glyphs in the Shortcuts app, there’s bound to be some overlap, and Apple doesn’t try to pigeonhole icons into one grouping. For example, if you need the sun glyph, you’ll find it listed under the Nature, Weather, and Keyboard categories. However, Apple also removed 100 glyphs and icon choices, though they may appear again in a future software update.

11. Delete Apple Wallet
If you don’t use Apple Pay, Apple Cash, Apple Card, or store loyalty cards and tickets in Apple Wallet, you can finally delete the Apple Wallet app. Before, you could only remove it from the home screen, hiding it in the App Library, but now it can be gone for good.
12. Key Sharing in Wallet
If you ever get a digital key stored in your Wallet app, such as one for your car or hotel room, you can now share them with other iPhone users using Messages, WhatsApp, and other messaging apps. And people can also share their keys with you.
13. Savings Account for Apple Card
For those of you with an Apple Card, you can turn your Daily Cash into even more cash by depositing it into a high-yield savings account from the Wallet app. Goldman Sachs runs the accounts, and you can choose to have your Daily Cash automatically moved to it for immediate investment. Apple states that there are no fees, minimum deposits, or minimum balance requirements.
Once users set up their Savings account, all future Daily Cash received will be automatically deposited into it, or they can choose to continue to have it added to an Apple Cash card in Wallet. Users can change their Daily Cash destination at any time.
To expand Savings even further, users can also deposit additional funds into their Savings account through a linked bank account, or from their Apple Cash balance. Users can also withdraw funds at any time by transferring them to a linked bank account or to their Apple Cash card, with no fees. Once set up, Apple Card users can watch their rewards grow in Wallet through an easy-to-use Savings dashboard, which shows their account balance and interest accrued over time.
14. Lock Screen Customization Changes
Apple is making the lock screen and home screen customization less confusing on iOS 16.1. Now, whenever you hit the “Customize” button for a lock screen in the lock screen switcher, it will give you a choice between editing the lock screen or home screen wallpaper.
Previously, it would jump right to the lock screen editor when you tapped “Customize.” Then, when you were done editing it, you would get an option to “Set as Wallpaper Pair” or “Customize Home Screen.” You’ll still see those two options when adding a new lock screen.

A wind-driven wildfire in southwest Washington state exploded to 2,000 acres over the weekend before diminishing slightly as authorities ordered evacuations for thousands of homes.
The latest: By Tuesday night, the Nakia Creek Fire was burning across nearly 1,800 acres and was 5% contained, according to Inciweb, interagency website that tracks wildfires. Evacuation zones shrank further as “cooler temperatures and high relative humidity aided firefighters,” per Inciweb.
Thought bubble, via Axios’ Andrew Freedman: The most dangerous wildfire weather conditions, which helped propel several large blazes in Washington state this weekend, have begun to shift. Slightly cooler, more humid air is present in western Washington in particular, helping firefighters to battle the flames.
The strong easterly winds that dried out vegetation and yielded extreme fire behavior this weekend have died down. Temperatures are expected to remain milder than average through midweek, and by late this week, much cooler and rainy fall weather is forecast to arrive in the Pacific Northwest.
The big picture: There’s an unusually high number of wildfires burning in the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West and Canada as much of the northwestern contiguous U.S. faces “above normal temperatures and minimum relative humidity,” per the National Inter Agency Fire Center.

Record high temperatures, dry weather, wildfire concerns and air quality issues have plagued much of the Pacific Northwest this past week, according to the National Weather Service.
“Strong high pressure continues to produce anomalous warmth and air quality issues in the Pacific Northwest,” the NWS noted on Tuesday night.
By the numbers: Washington’s Nakia Creek Fire, near Camas, east of Vancouver, which prompted Sunday’s evacuation orders, is one of 71 large fires in the U.S., according to the NIFC’s latest data.
Zoom in: Smoke from that Washington wildfire in eastern Clark County that’s razed some 2,000 acres has been “visible throughout the metropolitan area that Vancouver shares with Portland, Oregon,” AP notes.
An air quality advisory remained in place for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley in southwestern British Columbia due to wildfires in Washington and Canada, Metro Vancouver said on Tuesday.

Zoom out: 23 large fires were burning in Idaho, 22 in Montana, 15 in Washington and seven in Oregon, per the NIFC data.
Oklahoma has three large fires and California one — the monster Mosquito Fire that’s been active for 41 days, but which is now 95% contained.
Context: Scientific research shows climate change is a key factor in wildfire risk.
Much of the U.S. West is in the grip of a climate change-driven drought, which has exacerbated fire risk, per Axios’ Andrew Freedman.
What we’re watching: Temperatures “will cool over the Pacific Northwest late this week as a cold front begins to move southeast across the region,” the NWS said in a forecast update on Tuesday night.

Dallas County, Tarrant County, Denton County and Collin County are all seeing a decrease in COVID-19 hospitalizations in mid-October.
DALLAS — COVID-19 statistics across North Texas and the state as a whole continue to remain relatively low as the area is midway through October.
Collin County health officials said the county currently has 54 people hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Tuesday.
Hospitalization statistics have remained between 39 and 91 from Sept. 22 through Oct. 17. The last time there were more than 100 hospitalizations in the county was Sept. 20 when there were 105 hospitalizations in Collin County.
The record-high number of hospitalizations happened on Jan. 19, 2022, when the county had 583 in the hospital with COVID-19.
The record-low number of hospitalizations happened on April 18, 2022, when the county had 26 in the hospital with COVID-19.
Denton County hospitalizations remain below 20
Denton County Public Health reported there are currently 15 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the county as of Wednesday. There were 10 on Tuesday.
The last time there were more than 20 hospitalizations in the county was Sept. 30.
The record number of hospitalizations happened on Jan. 20, 2022, when the county had 236 in the hospital with COVID-19.
There are currently eight ICU beds available in the county’s hospitals.
State hospitalizations almost below 1,000
State health officials reported there are currently 1,078 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Texas as of Monday.
This is the second straight day that hospitalizations across the state have remained below 1,100.
The record-high number of hospitalizations happened on Jan. 11, 2021, when there were 14,218 patients in Texas hospitals.
The state currently has a 14-day average of 1,262 hospitalizations.
State officials report 243 deaths in last month
As of Wednesday, the last day of a reported COVID-19 death in Texas happened on Oct. 13, data from the Texas Department of State Health Services shows. The last time the state reported more than 100 deaths happened on Feb. 23, 2022, when there were 111.
From Sept. 17 through Oct. 17, there have been 243 reported COVID-19 deaths in Texas.
The record-high number of deaths that reportedly happened in a single day is Jan. 13, 2021 when there were 386 reported deaths.

Cara Udvadia will have a similar frame of mind on Oct. 30, and the venue will be the vast panoply of monuments and landmarks around Washington, D.C.
Presumably, she won’t be on the run from the law like Clark Griswold was. But she won’t be dawdling to soak in the gravitas of Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Mall and the U.S. Capitol, either.
The 25-year-old former star distance runner at Mohonasen High School and UAlbany is making the big jump to the marathon distance for the first time, and has given herself an ambitious but attainable finish goal of 2:50 at the 47th Marine Corps Marathon.
The UAlbany record holder in the 10,000 meters who won the MVP Health Care Stockade-athon 15k last year and in 2019 has visited D.C. just once, on a family vacation when she was in middle school. She’s looking forward to a marathon debut in which her wristwatch won’t be the only source of engagement.
“It’s a pretty cool spot. I think it’ll hopefully help take my mind off the pain at some point,” she said with a laugh during a phone interview last Thursday.
Udvadia, who married former UAlbany teammate Ryan Udvadia this year and works as a hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey, has been training for the Marine Corps Marathon for four months while coached by her father, Mohonasen cross country coach Bill Sherman.
Cara believes she’s well-equipped for Oct. 30 based on how her overall training has progressed, which has included a long run of 22 miles five weeks ago and another 22-miler the second week of October.
The first one was a valuable revelation; the recent one went much better.
“That’s probably the first time throughout this training block that really opened my eyes to how challenging the marathon can be,” she said. “And I wasn’t having a great day. I knew from the start of that run, I don’t know what it was, but I was feeling a little bit tired.
“It was a huge mental challenge from about 15 miles on. I was really struggling. I had Ryan on the bike with me. He was super-supportive, and that helped, for sure. I don’t know if I could’ve made it through without him.”
“I told her, I remember when I was preparing for my first marathon, they always say the halfway point of that 26-mile race is the 20-mile mark,” said Bill Sherman, who has run nine marathons. “And it’s true. I was like, that’s a bunch of baloney, and I ran it and was like, ‘Oh, my goodness.’
“She had a 20-miler a few weeks before and she said Dad I felt great, I’m ready, I think I could’ve done 26.’ She went to 22 and was like, ‘I think I understand what you were talking about at the halfway point.’”
To hit her target time, Udvadia will have to maintain a 6:29 mile pace.
She posted the same time, 54:24, in her two Stockade-athon victories, which is a 5:51 pace for 9.3 miles, and in some shorter races this year, she has run sub-6:00 pace in the Firecracker 4 (23:33 for four miles) and Malta 10k (36:28) on Sept. 10.
To get a taste of a race longer than the Stockade-athon, Udvadia ran the Helderberg-to-Hudson Half Marathon in April, and won it in 1:17:01, a 5:53 pace, before she had begun her serious training block for the Marine Corps.
“I always knew that I would eventually move up [in distance],” she said. “After I finished running competitively in college last year, I felt like I needed some time to catch my breath and took a little down time and then spent some time road racing. This year, I felt like I was ready to make the jump.
“I decided to take it kind of slow and started with a half marathon with the mindset that that would be setting me up for a fall marathon. It was a good experience. It was tough, jumping up in distance.”
The popular Capital Region 26.2-miler, the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon on Oct. 9, was a logical spot for her debut, but Udvadia chose to get out of town, and there is some family history at the D.C. race, too.
Ryan, who is also in good shape and will race Marine Corps, had run it with his grandfather.
“I really wanted to do one that was not in the area for my first one,” Cara said. “A marathon’s a long distance, and doing it in a familiar area, I didn’t want to get bored, if that makes sense.
“I wanted to also race some new people and challenge myself with that. Ryan told me good things about it. I wanted to look for something that would definitely push me, and other women to run with was really important to me. Looking at the past results, it definitely fit the bill. It looked like I would be in the mix, but definitely by no means the fastest. I felt like that would be a good way to push myself.”
The women’s winner at Marine Corps typically runs in the 2:40s, and former Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake star Sam Roecker won the MHR Marathon in 2:52:17.
The Marine Corps Marathon starts and finishes in Arlington, Virginia, crosses two bridges over the Potomac River and passes many of the iconic tourist sights in Washington.
The course is mostly flat, but has some uphill in the early miles and another hill that begins a gentle ascent at the Mile 21 mark and gets steeper in Mile 23.
The learning process is two-fold for Udvadia this year, how to train for a marathon, and how to race one.
“That’s funny,” she said, when told that her father described her target time as “aggressive.” “It’s hard for me to say. Obviously, I never ran a marathon before, and I don’t want to underestimate it, because I know it’s going to be extremely challenging.
“But I think it’s very do-able if I run smart in the beginning and don’t go out too fast. I know he thinks it’s more aggressive than I probably do, but he’s also more experienced with marathoning than I am, so I definitely learned some lessons during training, doing long runs past where I’ve gone before. It made me realize that it’ll be harder than I expect, probably, so it’s good to go in prepared for that.”
“Her training has been going really well, and she seems really strong,” Bill Sherman said. “I think it’s a lot to manage when you’re all of a sudden working full-time.
“She’s got a pretty aggressive goal for this first one. I think it’s aggressive, and if she can do it, it’s going to be amazing. I have her at certain pacing for her tempo runs, and she says, ‘Dad, it feels so slow,’ but you’re doing 12 miles of tempo. All the pacing is based on her goal time. And it’s going well, but you don’t know until you step on the line and cross the finish line.”
Balancing time-consuming marathon training with a full-time job is also part of the challenge for Udvadia.
She and Ryan live in Clifton Park, and her work with the USGS occasionally requires travel to all corners of the state to collect water samples for lab analysis.
“It’s also held me accountable to take a day off every week, which I usually follow that type of plan,” Cara said. “This has forced me to do that. When you work a 12-plus-hour day, it’s hard to find time to run, so if that happens once a week, it’s not a bad thing for my training, to be honest.”
Udvadia said she’ll run the Stockade-athon again on Nov. 13 as long as it doesn’t present a risk of injury while she recovers from Marine Corps.
She’s committed to her new distance, though, and, based on her training and affinity for longer distances, the Oct. 30 race will be anything but a sight-seeing opportunity.
“I don’t want to jinx myself, but I’ve been able to hit the pace, no problem, in training, so I think when race day comes around, I’ll have been resting up a little bit the week before and my legs will probably feel better than they do on an average day, with the race atmosphere,” she said..
“I find that the first time I do a new workout or distance or a new race, it’s a lot more challenging the first time. I’m trying to keep that in mind for the first time I race the marathon, knowing it’s probably not going to go smoothly.
“But I’ll have plenty more tries after this.”

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — An American citizen has been arrested in Saudi Arabia, tortured and sentenced to 16 years in prison over tweets he sent while in the United States, his son said Tuesday.
Saad Ibrahim Almadi, a 72-year-old retired project manager living in Florida, was arrested last November while visiting family in the kingdom and was sentenced earlier this month, his son Ibrahim told The Associated Press, confirming details that were first reported by the Washington Post. Almadi is a citizen of both Saudi Arabia and the U.S.
There was no immediate comment from Saudi officials.
State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel, speaking to reporters in Washington, confirmed Almadi’s detention Tuesday.
“We have consistently and intensively raised our concerns regarding the case at senior levels of the Saudi government, both through channels in Riyadh and Washington DC as well and we will continue to do so,” he said. “We have raised this with members of the Saudi government as recently as yesterday.”
It appeared to be the latest in a series of recent cases in which Saudis received long jail sentences for social media posts critical of the government.
Saudi authorities have tightened their crackdown on dissent following the rise of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is seeking to open up and transform the ultraconservative kingdom but has adopted a hard line toward any criticism.
A Saudi court recently sentenced a woman to 45 years in prison for allegedly damaging the country through her social media activity. A Saudi doctoral student at Leeds University in England was sentenced to 34 years for spreading “rumors” and retweeting dissidents, a case that drew international outrage.
Ibrahim says his father was detained over 14 “mild tweets” posted on Twitter over the past seven years, mostly criticizing government policies and alleged corruption. He says his father was not an activist but a private citizen expressing his opinion while in the U.S., where freedom of speech is a constitutional right.
President Joe Biden traveled to the oil-rich kingdom in July for a meeting with Prince Mohammed, in which he said he confronted him about human rights. Their meeting — and a widely criticized fist-bump — marked a sharp turnaround from Biden’s earlier vow to make the kingdom a “pariah” over the 2018 killing of Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
Ibrahim said his father was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Oct. 3 on charges of supporting terrorism. The father was also charged with failing to report terrorism, over tweets that Ibrahim had posted.
His father was also slapped with a 16-year travel ban. If the sentence is carried out, the 72-year-old would be 87 upon his release and barred from returning home to the U.S. unless he reaches the age of 104.
Ibrahim said Saudi authorities warned his family to stay quiet about the case and to not involve the U.S. government. He said his father was tortured after the family contacted the State Department in March.
Ibrahim also accused the State Department of neglecting his father’s case by not declaring him a “wrongfully detained” American, which would elevate his file.
“They manipulated me. They told me to stay quiet so they can get him out,” Ibrahim said, explaining his decision to go public this week. “I am not willing to take a gamble on the Department of State anymore.”

The former Queen frontman was said to have owned the car from 1979 until his death in 1991 at age 45. After his passing, the Rolls-Royce was scooped up by his sister, Kashmira Cooke, and remained in her possession until 2013 when it was bought at auction. Next month, the ‘74 Shadow will cross the block again, but this time the money from the sale will benefit Superhumans Center, a charity that’s providing aid for Ukrainian war victims.

“This car represents a serious piece of history and the fact that the proceeds of the sale will benefit the amazing Superhumans of Ukraine charity is wonderful,” says Nick Wiles, a car specialist at RM Sotheby’s. Despite never having a license, that didn’t stop Mercury from amassing quite the class car collection. In fact, the Silver Shadow is reportedly what he was often chauffeured in throughout his career and even where the band’s record label signing took place.

“We filmed the promo video for ‘We Will Rock You’ in the garden of Roger Taylor’s new Surrey mansion. . .and Freddie upstaged everyone by arriving in his brand new Roller,” says Jim Beach, the long-time band manager of Queen, in a documentary. “Freddie insisted that we sign all of the contracts, all of us together, in the back of the Roller, because this was the first Rolls he’d ever owned.”
According to the auction site, the car is finished in Silver Chalice paint with blue-gray interiors and is outfitted with a 6,750 cc V-8 engine. There’s also a chord phone and cassette deck, which adds to its cool factor. Accompanying the Shadow is a history file to confirm its celeb status. In it, you’ll find past workshop invoices with Mercury’s name on them, along with a letter of authenticity from Beach.
The auction kicks off on November 5, with a preview scheduled for November 4.

Young Americans aged between 21 and 42 are 7.5 times more likely to hold crypto in their portfolios than investors over 43, a new survey from Bank of America shows.
According to the survey, younger Americans with money to invest are also less interested in stocks than older investors, with the younger cohort instead viewing crypto and other so-called alternative investments as their “No. 1 choice.”
An alternative investment normally refers to investments in any other asset than stocks, bonds and cash. This investment category has become increasingly popular in recent years, as many investors have seen the stock market as overvalued and risky, while bank savings have paid out interest rates far below the rate of inflation in most Western countries.

“While overall [crypto] usage is low, younger people are 7.5 times more likely to hold crypto in their portfolios and five times more likely to say they understand it quite well,” the bank commented, stressing the importance of age when it comes to interest in crypto investing.
In terms of where young investors go to find information about crypto investment opportunities, the bank said social media is the most popular. “Half of the younger group said they turn to social media for guidance on crypto, compared with 30% of the older group,” the BofA survey said.
Meanwhile, the survey also found that a whopping 75% of investors between the ages of 21 and 42 do not believe it is possible to achieve “above-average returns” with a traditional portfolio consisting solely of stocks and bonds.
Instead, the youngest group of investors are seeking to improve their returns with alternatives, including private equity, commodities, real estate, and – as already mentioned – crypto.
The findings were published in Bank of America’s 2022 Private Bank Study of Wealthy Americans that was released this week. The survey was based on answers from 1,052 high-net-worth individuals in the US.
In the past, Bank of America has shown some interest in crypto at the corporate level, having participated as a strategic investor in blockchain infrastructure platform Paxos‘ Series D round of funding.
Last year, the major bank also made some headlines when it published its first official piece of investment research on the crypto market titled “Digital Assets Primer: Only the first inning.”

The son of an American citizen imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for criticizing the Saudi government said Tuesday evening that his father is “nowhere near being a dissident.”
“My father is a senior American citizen who just wants to live freely and happy in the United States where he got his education,” Saad Ibrahim Almadi’s son, Ibrahim Almadi, told CNN’s Erin Burnett on “OutFront.”
The US State Department confirmed earlier Tuesday that 72-year-old Saad Ibrahim Almadi has been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia after being given a 16-year sentence for tweets critical of the Saudi government.
Almadi’s imprisonment was first reported by The Washington Post.
Ibrahim Almadi told CNN on Tuesday that if his father had been held in Russia or Iran, “we’d see his name in the headlines every morning.”
State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said at a news briefing that officials have “consistently and intensively raised our concerns regarding the case at senior levels of the Saudi government, both through channels in Riyadh and Washington, DC, as well … as recently as yesterday.”
Patel also confirmed that there was no State Department official at Almadi’s sentencing hearing, which he said was because the Saudi government moved up the hearing date without telling the US embassy and never responded to the embassy’s request to attend the hearing weeks before it was originally scheduled. The last time the US had consular access to Almadi was August 10, according to Patel.
The State Department, he said, is still going through the process to determine whether Almadi will be designated as “wrongfully detained.”
“Exercising the freedom of expression should never be criminalized,” Patel said.
The State Department communicated with the Saudi ambassador in Washington on Monday about Almadi’s case, a US official told CNN.

After landing a Costco, the tollway extension coming and exploding population growth, locals believe Celina may be on pace to become one of the largest cities in DFW eventually.
The once-quiet, farming community of Celina is blossoming into a hotbed for economic growth.
Celina Mayor Sean Terry is touting a deal the city just landed at Preston and Ownsby Parkway.
“Man it’s awesome. You have a bucket list that you want for cities and they were surely on our bucket list we wanted to attract them every year,” Mayor Terry said. “We’d meet with them, talk to them and sell Celina and you know five years ago nobody knew where Celina was
Terry said Celina is the first community with under 35-thousand residents to land the retailer. In part, projections show Celina’s population will almost double in the next five years.
Improving infrastructure is key to meeting that growth, he said. Just this month, the Dallas North Tollway Authority Opened the Tollway Extension that crosses F.M. 428 TO 455.

“[By] December, you’ll be able to get on the toll road and end up almost in downtown Gunter, which is unheard of,” Mayor Terry said.
“I believe we’re really one of the best-planned cities in the metroplex,” said Jason Lawmer, Celina City Manager.
Lawmer credits the toll road and the city’s location for some of their success with plenty of space left.
“Our build-out is three to 400k people and so we’re only about 10% built out right now so we have 90% to go,” Lawmer added.
The Costco deal comes with incentives. The city has agreed to share some of the sales tax with the company.
Terry, a seventh-generation Collin County resident, said the city will keep growing while the small-town feel remains.
“We just opened our third fire station, we just broke ground on our first real police complex,” Mayor Terry said. “We put a high emphasis on this being a safe good community.”
The Celina Costco is expected to break ground in three to six months and could open as early as 2024.

A new report, based on travel data sets from insights company GWI, shows the travel sector is continuing to see a strong post-pandemic rebound. It reveals that 57 percent of U.S. consumers are planning an overseas vacation within the next 12 months and 86 percent also eyeing a domestic trip.
It seems, however, that they’re still somewhat trepidatious as a result of the pandemic experience, since 38 percent report that the ability to cancel or rebook without penalty is the most important factor for them when arranging their next trip, trailed by 36 percent of respondents who said they’ll be paying closer attention to hygiene standards.
“The data really demonstrates that, while we’re keen to get back to regular travel, consumers are still tentative,” remarked GWI’s Chief Research Officer, Jason Mander added, Brands should take note, offer flexibility and, above all, demonstrate the overall value and experience they’re offering.”
Today’s record-high economic inflation levels leading to a “cost of living crisis” and resulting concerns about an oncoming recession are also impacting consumer sentiment. As the cost of travel goes up, along with everything else, 36 percent of Americans are being price-conscious when it comes to their travel spending, according to July 2022 GWI Zeitgeist data.
“While many people have jumped back into traveling after the disruption of the past couple of years, the ways in which we now live and work post-pandemic are heavily impacting travelers’ expectations,” said GWI’s CEO and Founder, Tom Smith. “That’s exactly why we have created a travel-specific data set—to help our customers stay on top of these ongoing changes, and really understand what people want and need.”
Viewed altogether, U.S. travelers reported that their top priorities when planning a vacation right now are visiting family, relatives and friends (53 percent), or going on a beach or coastal getaway. However, when the data is broken down generationally, it’s evident that people in each age group have different preferences on how they want to travel.
