Nature never stops to amaze me – it provides us with exactly what we need right at our doorstep. Just as the cold season arrives it ripens some wonderful berries bursting full of antioxidants to support our immune function. Thankfully, the wise traditions are making their way back to our medicine cupboards. Two of my favourite wild food winter remedies are elderberries and rosehips.
Elderberries have been used for centuries in Europe – documents from France from the early 1600s revealed they used it to prevent or cure numerous ailments, particularly as winter tonic to treat fever, gut disorders, and rheumatism. There are increasing numbers of studies to unravel their important medicinal properties. Elderberries have both direct and indirect ways to help us fight viruses that cause the colds and flues. They are rich in the purple pigment, an antioxidant called anthocyanin, which may block the receptors a virus uses to enter our cells of the respiratory tract, thus preventing their replication and life cycle.
Its polyphenols have been shown to enhance the communication of our own immune cells, nourish the microbes that live in our gut also known to have immune regulating properties, and reduce inflammation. Human clinical trials confirmed that elderberry supplementation may substantially reduce the duration & severity of upper respiratory symptoms. It seems to be most effective when used before and throughout an infection, so it is best taken throughout the winter season. Don’t make the mistake of eating them raw! They need to be thoroughly cooked or processed to break down their gut-irritating toxins. Thalli Foods (www.thallifoods.com) sells it as incredible elderberry vinegar, juice, and dried powder. Of course, you can get various quality tonics from your pharmacy and health stores.
Rosehips bring back great memories – my grandma used to make jam out of them every winter. I pick these bright red shiny berries on my walks and runs with the dogs and make tea out of them, or add them to my smoothie, granola, or salads. They are known to have high levels of antioxidants – especially highly bioavailable form of vitamin C, and their antimicrobial actions have long been used in the traditional prevention and therapy of common colds and other infections.
The phenols in rosehips have antibacterial activity – they are able to increase membrane permeabilization, nutrient deprivation and extracellular enzyme inhibition – thus making a bacterium’s life particularly difficult. Antiviral and antifungal properties of Rosa species have also been reported, while its anti-inflammatory benefits have been studied in rheumatoid arthritis.
The best winter tonics are made with raw honey, which is one of the most appreciated ancient remedies. Honey has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years. In its raw state it contains natural sugars, enzymes, hydrogen peroxide and defensins, which all have been shown to be antimicrobial – fighting those microscopic creatures that are looking to make you sick. It also has wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties, which are responsible for that well-known throat soothing sensation, so comforting in the winter.

Black Adam Star Quintessa Swindell Talks Playing Cyclone Entertainment Weekly News
Black Adam Star Quintessa Swindell Talks Playing Cyclone – Entertainment Weekly News https://collincountynewsonline.com/black-adam-star-quintessa-swindell-talks-playing-cyclone-entertainment-weekly-news/
Breaking Big: The 25-year-old Euphoria actor suits up alongside Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, and Pierce Brosnan in DC’s latest superhero epic.
coggan
Superhero training is nothing new. If you’re an actor and you get cast to play a comic-book hero, you’re probably committing to a fair amount of gym time. Sometimes that can mean hitting the weights or practicing the perfect punch; other times, you have to learn how to mimic flight by dangling in a harness, dozens of feet off the ground.
But when Quintessa Swindell signed on to Black Adam, a decidedly more artistic approach was taken. Swindell, who uses they/them pronouns, co-stars as Maxine Hunkel, a.k.a. Cyclone, and is the first nonbinary actor who identifies as gender-nonconforming to play a superhero in the DCEU. Cyclone is a brilliant young heroine with the ability to manipulate the wind — a simple wave of her arms can unleash a tornado. To prepare for the role, Swindell studied with expert dancers and researched early modern dance pioneers like Loie Fuller and Isadora Duncan, known for their elegant, swirling motions. On set, Swindell would play music to help them get into character, and the result is a uniquely graceful hero who moves unlike any other superhero on screen.
“It became a very personal experience,” Swindell, 25, says. “I feel like when you’re moving your body, you start to feel yourself in different ways, and you want to accentuate different things. Through movement, there’s an emotional release. So when I was training, I became more comfortable in my body, and really empowered in a way that I honestly didn’t think would happen.”

Warner Bros.’ Black Adam (out Oct. 21) is titled after Dwayne Johnson’s antihero, an all-powerful figure from DC Comics lore. But the film also marks the big-screen debut of the Justice Society of America, a legendary DC super-squad that faces off against the brawny Adam. Some of the Justice Society members are already experienced heroes, including Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate and Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman. Others are new recruits, and Swindell’s Cyclone joins the team at the same time as fellow newbie Atom Smasher (To All the Boys’ Noah Centineo).
Swindell is also new to the superhero game, not unlike the character they play on-screen. After studying theater, the Virginia-born actor broke out in 2019 with roles on HBO’s hit Euphoria and the Netflix teen drama Trinkets. But Black Adam is their biggest role yet. Swindell says they wanted to embrace that newness on set and use their own wide-eyed wonder to inform how they approached Maxine.
“Very rarely have I seen a role that paints a young girl in a way that gives her the ability to live authentically and truthfully in her weirdness,” Swindell explains. “She’s on the precipice of embracing her sense of self and discovering her power.”

Swindell is a longtime, self-professed DC Comics fan, and in some ways, Black Adam has a lot in common with your traditional superhero fare: There are cool gadgets and magical MacGuffins and more than a few jaw-dropping fight scenes. (Cyclone’s powers are particularly gorgeous on screen, manifesting as churning Technicolor hurricanes.) But the film, set in the fictional Middle Eastern nation of Kahndaq, also boasts an unexpected moral ambiguity, probing questions about who gets to be a hero — and what heroism actually entails.
“Especially now, when we reframe our thoughts about imperialism, globalization, and who has the power in a society,” Swindell adds, ‘those are concepts that are so timely, and I’m thankful that Black Adam talks about them, and promotes that conversation. I hope that when people go, they’re like, ‘Well, what would you have done? What do you signify as justice or injustice, and how does that fluctuate culture to culture?’ That’s what I love about the film.”
Despite these occasionally weighty themes, Swindell says their main goal was to keep things light on set — as breezy and fluid as Maxine’s powers.
“The biggest challenge was getting out of my head and letting go and being loose,” they add. “For me, sometimes I tend to keep things really tight, and with Cyclone, I just wanted to release and be as present as I possibly could. And just have fun.”

GoldenTree Asset Management Reveals $5.3 Million Position In SushiSwap – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/goldentree-asset-management-reveals-5-3-million-position-in-sushiswap-cryptonews/

GoldenTree Asset Management has invested roughly $5.3 million in SUSHI, the governance token of the decentralized finance protocol SushiSwap.
The U.S.-based asset management firm with approximately $50 billion in assets under management (AUM) said in a post on the SushiSwap community forum that the investment is based on the belief that Sushi has “incredible potential.”
The post added that the firm has been following the progress of the protocol for a while and is excited by the resilience and innovation the community has shown. These characteristics have put Sushi among the very best of DeFi in the eyes of GoldenTree.
“Although the community has certainly been through some tough challenges, we’ve been amazed at the resilience of both the core team and the community in the face of these speed bumps, as you all have continued to build and release top-tier products,” the post said.
The investment is being managed by GoldenChain Asset Management, the digital assets-focused arm of GoldenTree that was created back in March. The head of the unit, Avi Felman, along with other members of the 10-man team, has promised to begin playing a more prominent role in the Sushi community.
GoldenChain says it will focus most of its assistance to the protocol in the areas of tokenomics and general design/strategy. Felman said in a tweet that Sushi still has a lot to accomplish.
“There are many reasons we like Sushi (detailed in the post), but a core reason is that it represents some of the best of DeFi. We think there is a lot to do, and that a lot will be accomplished over the coming months,” he wrote.
SushiSwap at a crucial point in its roadmap
GoldenTree has been previously reported by finance-focused news outlet The Street to have bought Bitcoin for their balance sheet. Meanwhile, the announcement of the company’s position in SushiSwap is coming shortly after the protocol’s community voted in a new CEO, or head chef (HC) as the community tags the position, in the person of Jared Grey.
His appointment comes as the Ethereum-based DeFi protocol with around $23 billion in total value locked (TVL) has proposed to turn over its governance from being run by a leaderless DAO to being run by two foundations and a corporation.
The move was based on legal advice arising from the CFTC’s litigation of DAO-run crypto lender Ooki for violating the Commodities Exchange Act (CEA). If the proposal is accepted by the community, the protocol will be incorporated in Panama.

100 Days Post-Roe: At Least 66 Clinics Across 15 US States Have Stopped Offering Abortion Care – Guttmacher Institute https://collincountynewsonline.com/100-days-post-roe-at-least-66-clinics-across-15-us-states-have-stopped-offering-abortion-care-guttmacher-institute/
October 2, 2022 marked 100 days since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a decision that has resulted in states across the nation severely restricting access to abortion. New Guttmacher research found that 100 days after the June 24 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, 66 clinics across 15 states have been forced to stop offering abortions.
Prior to June 24, these 15 states had a total of 79 clinics that provided abortion care. As of October 2, that number had dropped to 13, and all of them are located in Georgia. This means there are no providers currently offering abortions in 14 of the 15 states.
Among the 66 clinics where abortion is no longer available, 40 are still offering services other than abortion, while 26 have shut down entirely.
Our analysis, which builds on research we conducted 30 days after Roe fell, focuses on the 15 states that were enforcing either total or six-week abortion bans as of October 2. While most of these bans include very limited circumstances when an abortion may be allowed, those exceptions are designed to be difficult to navigate and are often unusable in practice.
States Where Clinics Stopped Offering Abortions or Closed Entirely
In the 13 states that had implemented total abortion bans as of October 2, all clinics were forced to stop offering abortions. In the other two states, Wisconsin and Georgia, the situation is precarious. Clinics in Wisconsin have faced legal uncertainty around the state’s pre-Roe total abortion ban, leading providers in that state to stop offering abortions out of fear of future prosecution. In Georgia, which is enforcing a ban on abortion starting at six weeks of pregnancy, clinics have been affected by the shortened timeframe to offer abortion services.
At the 40 clinics that have remained open for services other than abortion, our research did not ask about the scope of activities they are undertaking, but it may include providing other sexual and reproductive health services (e.g., prescribing birth control) or helping patients find abortion care in other states. However, 26 clinics have been forced to close their doors. When clinics close down or stop offering abortion care, it represents a lost source of health care for their community.
Changes to Abortion Clinic Services
Our research tracked the following changes to abortion services at clinics in 15 states as of October 2, 2022, compared with the situation right before Roe was overturned.
Alabama (previously 5 clinics)
0 clinics offering abortion care
1 clinic closed entirely, 4 open for other services

Impact on People Needing Abortions
The new reality of clinics no longer offering abortions or closing down entirely is having a devastating impact in states with abortion bans—and far beyond.
The 14 states where abortion is currently unavailable accounted for 125,780 abortions in 2020. Individuals who can no longer obtain an abortion from a clinic in these states are now forced to travel to another state for abortion care (facing additional direct and indirect costs associated with travel logistics, child care and time off work), self-manage their abortion or continue their pregnancy (and accept the significant associated health risks).
Likewise, 41,620 abortions were obtained in Georgia in 2020. Under the state’s six-week abortion ban, which prohibits abortion before many people even know they are pregnant, anyone needing an abortion faces an extremely limited time frame for scheduling and obtaining care. This means many people in Georgia will be left with the same options as people in states with total bans.
Altogether, these 15 states are home to almost 22 million women of reproductive age (aged 15–49), in addition to other people who may not identify as women but are capable of becoming pregnant and may need an abortion. That means almost one-third (29%) of the total US population of women of reproductive age are living in states where abortion is either unavailable or severely restricted.
Importantly, the loss of clinics is felt in all states—even those where abortion remains legal. Ample anecdotal evidence shows that abortion clinics in these states are being inundated with people from states with abortion bans seeking care. These dramatic increases in caseloads mean clinic capacity and staff are stretched to their limits, resulting in longer wait times for appointments even for residents of states where abortion remains legal.
More Chaos, Confusion and Harm to Come
Even before Roe was overturned, getting an abortion was difficult or outright impossible for many people, especially those who were already facing steep barriers to accessing health care, including people with low incomes, Black and Brown people, immigrants, young people, those with disabilities and rural populations. These inequities are likely to worsen as clinic-based abortion care disappears in many states, a number of them clustered in regions like the South.
An already precarious abortion access landscape is likely to continue to deteriorate. Our state legislative tracking predicts that a total of 26 states are certain or likely to ban abortion within a year of Roe being overturned. Already, several states—including Indiana, Ohio and South Carolina—had total or six-week abortion bans go into effect briefly before they were temporarily blocked in court. These bans could go into effect again as soon as the court cases are resolved. These disruptions to service provision—even when temporary—affect the ability of established providers to quickly resume abortion care. Further, rapidly changing laws may make it unclear to some patients whether they can legally seek an abortion in their state.
Much more research will need to be conducted to grasp the full extent of the chaos, confusion and harm that the US Supreme Court has unleashed on people needing abortions, but the picture that is starting to emerge should alarm anyone who supports reproductive freedom and the right to bodily autonomy.
Methodology
Starting September 20, we generated a list of clinics known to have provided abortion care in 2020 in the 17 states that implemented total or early gestational age abortion bans following the Supreme Court decision in June. We checked our list of 2020 facilities against other sources to remove clinics that had not been providing abortion care as of June 24, 2022. The number of states was adjusted based on changes in state laws and their implementation through October 2, including the removal of Indiana and Ohio after court action temporarily suspended their bans.
Between September 20 and October 2, we used multiple sources—including clinic websites, news stories, social media and information from colleague organizations—to track the status of abortion services. For each clinic, we determined if the facility was open or closed; if open, if it was providing abortions or other sexual and reproductive health care; and, if providing abortions, whether abortion care was available past six weeks’ gestation. In cases where online information was seemingly out of date (e.g., a clinic indicated it provided abortion care even though there was a state ban in effect), we conducted one or more mystery calls using the phone number listed on the clinic’s website. If a phone line was not answered after two or more calls during business hours, we considered the clinic to be closed. Data were imported into Stata17 to systematically count the number of clinics that had closed or had stopped providing abortions and were continuing to offer other services.
We analyzed American Community Survey data from 2020 in Stata17 to calculate the number and percentage of women of reproductive age living in the 15 states we investigated.
The authors thank Ava Braccia, Christina Geddes and Tammy Lever for collecting the data used in this analysis.

Kaseya Confirms Long-Rumored ConnectBooster Acquisition – ChannelE2E https://collincountynewsonline.com/kaseya-confirms-long-rumored-connectbooster-acquisition-channele2e/
by Joe Panettieri • Oct 6, 2022
Kaseya has confirmed the long-rumored ConnectBooster acquisition, ending a year of speculation that reminded some MSPs of the long-rumored Kaseya-IT Glue deal. Indeed, the IT Glue buyout was disclosed roughly two years after the initial M&A deal was inked.
This is technology M&A deal number 868 that ChannelE2E has covered so far in 2022. See more than 2,000 technology M&A deals involving MSPs, MSSPs & IT service providers listed here.
ChannelE2E does not know how long Kaseya has officially owned ConnectBooster.
PSA Software Integrations: Kaseya BMS, Datto Autotask
Fred Voccola, CEO, Kaseya
ConnectBooster, founded in 2010, is based in Fargo, North Dakota. The software company develops accounts receivable automation and payment solutions for MSPs. That software has now been “fully integrated with Kaseya BMS and Datto AutoTask,” Kaseya said.
In a prepared statement about the acquisition, Kaseya CEO Fred Voccola said:
“Every acquisition we make is aimed at making life easier for our MSP customers. By fully integrating ConnectBooster into IT Complete, we’re able to help free up time for MSPs to focus on growing their businesses, and that ensures they can be more productive and profitable.”
ConnectBooster officials were not quoted in the M&A announcement.
Kaseya Tuck-in Acquisitions: Generally Strong Execution, Occasionally Delayed Transparency
Generally speaking, Kaseya has a good track record of successfully acquiring and integrating tuck-in software businesses. (We’re watching to see how the larger Datto acquisition ultimately performs.)
Some of the tuck-in acquisitions have remained undisclosed for months or years on end. The stealth M&A deals irk some rivals that are seeking to prioritize ISV lead generation programs, joint sponsorships and/or integrations. Also, the undisclosed acquisitions occasionally upset some MSPs that are seeking more transparency about the current and potential future software stack suppliers.
ChannelE2E does not know if Kaseya has made additional stealth-mode acquisitions, though unconfirmed rumors about a Robin Robins-related investment have surfaced from time to time.

Biden To Mark IBM Investment With Democrats In Tough Races 69News WFMZ-TV
Biden To Mark IBM Investment With Democrats In Tough Races – 69News WFMZ-TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/biden-to-mark-ibm-investment-with-democrats-in-tough-races-69news-wfmz-tv/
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is ready to celebrate a new $20 billion investment by IBM in New York’s Hudson River Valley with two House Democrats running in competitive races in next month’s critical midterm elections.
Biden is taking part in a Thursday afternoon announcement at the IBM facility in Poughkeepsie, New York. He is expected to hold out the company’s plans as part of what the White House says is a manufacturing “boom” spurred by this summer’s passage of a $ 280 billion legislative package intended to boost the U.S. semiconductor industry and scientific research.
Democrats facing tough midterms races have largely avoided appearing with Biden in the leadup to November’s elections. But Biden, whose approval ratings remain underwater, will be joined by two House incumbents in competitive New York races who are bucking the trend: Reps. Sean Patrick Maloney and Pat Ryan.
“When I heard @POTUS was looking to see the benefits of the CHIPS & Science Act first-hand, I told him that the Hudson Valley was the perfect place,” Maloney wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. “I’m thrilled to host him in Poughkeepsie this week to celebrate the major wins and good-paying jobs we are delivering here in NY.”
The CHIPS and Science Act, which Biden signed into law in August, was a rare piece of legislation for which the president was able to win bipartisan support.
IBM’s $20 billion investment over the next decade is intended to bolster research and development and manufacturing of semiconductors, mainframe technology, artificial intelligence and quantum computing in New York’s Hudson River Valley, according to the White House.
The IBM investment comes on the heels of chipmaker Micron announcing earlier this week an investment of up to $100 billion over the next 20-plus years to build a plant in upstate New York that could create 9,000 factory jobs.
Maloney, chairman of the powerful Democratic congressional campaign fundraising arm, is running against Republican state Assemblyman Mike Lawler in New York’s 17th District. Ryan is up against state Assemblyman Colin Schmitt in the 18th District.
The boundaries of most New York districts, including Maloney’s and Ryan’s, have been affected by redistricting.
Ryan in August won a close special election to serve out the term of Democrat Antonio Delgado, who vacated his 19th District seat after he was appointed lieutenant governor by Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. Ryan is running to serve a full term in the 18th District, where he lives.
Maloney, who had served New York’s 18th District since 2013, decided to run in the 17th District. His Hudson Valley home fell inside the new boundaries after redistricting.
Hochul, who took office last year after Democrat Andrew Cuomo resigned amid sexual harassment allegations, is also scheduled to attend. She’s looking to win a full term in next month’s election against Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin.
Later Thursday, Biden will head to central New Jersey for a fundraiser at the home of Gov. Phil Murphy in support of the Democratic National Committee. In the evening, he heads to Manhattan for a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser hosted by James Murdoch, the son of conservative News Corp. publisher Rupert Murdoch.
Murdoch and his wife, Kathryn, a climate change activist, were major donors to Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign. In 2020, Murdoch resigned from the board of News Corp. amid differences over editorial content at his father’s company, which operates The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post. The elder Murdoch is also chairman of Fox Corp., which includes Fox News Channel.
While Biden has been kept at arms length by many Democratic candidates, he’s been a prodigious fundraiser for his party this election cycle, raising more than $19.6 million for the Democratic National Committee.

The Best Health And Fitness Apps For Android In 2022 Android Police
The Best Health And Fitness Apps For Android In 2022 – Android Police https://collincountynewsonline.com/the-best-health-and-fitness-apps-for-android-in-2022-android-police/
Staying on top of your fitness goals and establishing good habits for a healthier lifestyle isn’t always an easy task, which is why we turn to external help from apps. So we reviewed some of the best fitness and health apps available on Android that you can link to your favorite smartwatch to hit the ground running. It’s time to stop cheating and take control of your health and fitness with the help of some handy apps. Let’s dive in.
Google Fit
When it comes to getting a clearer picture of your overall health, counting out expended calories, utilizing GPS to map your walks/runs, and gauging your heartbeat over time, almost no app does it better than Google Fit. Not only is Google Fit the default fitness tracking option on Wear OS smartwatches, but it’s also one of the most well-rounded solutions in the Android ecosystem. The app uses a unique “move minutes” tracking system that gauges how many complete minutes you’re in motion throughout the day. It also marks down “heart points,” which account for more rigorous exercises, such as brisk walks, runs, etc.
In addition to these metrics, Fit keeps a log of your steps walked, distance traveled, and calories expended. It also tracks heart rate, weight, and how much sleep you’ve acquired.
Argus
Developed by Azumio — the masterminds behind other popular fitness apps like Instant Heart Rate and Sleep Time. Argus lets users keep track of steps taken; distance traveled, calories burned throughout the day, weight over time, and more. Argus has a lot of flexibility for the wide range of fitness services and hardware it can sync up with, like the Garmin app, Dexcom glucose meters, Strava, and Google Fit.
Strava
Strava is a hybrid app that blends its fitness roots with a unique social media element, encouraging users to share their activities and progress with other Strava participants. On the fitness side, the app taps into GPS to map walks/runs, bike rides, and it can even track swims. An included Explore tab helps users find fitness events in their area, user-generated challenges, and more. Users can also set weekly and annual goals to keep them motivated over time. On the social side, users are encouraged to connect with friends, post content to their activity feeds (à la Facebook), and even compete with one another.
Nike Run Club
The Nike Run Club app fits in a similar vein as Strava, where you rely on the app to track your steps for your activities, but with an emphasis on walking and running. Users can tap into their devices’ GPS to map their walks/runs, download free guided runs, and partake in long-term coached exercise regimens. So if you’re looking for another app that supports your progress, and provides coaching, then Nike Run Club is the perfect app for you.
Walk with Map My Walk
Walk with Map My Walk app has you creating customizable training plans, receiving coaching tips, and joining challenges with a community. The app is versatile whether you exercise near your home or on a daily route. You can upgrade to the MVP premium tier if you prefer personalized coaching and more tools for your training plans. It lets you sync with various apps and wearables like Google Fit, Garmin, and Android Wear.
7 Minute Workout
Sometimes, you don’t have much time in your day for an extended workout session, but why feel guilty about missing out on getting your heart rate up? The 7 Minute Workout app follows the HICT (high-intensity circuit training) philosophy to jumpstart your cardiovascular system for the day. The app supports Google Fit, and you’ll have access to 12 exercises with each in less than a minute — all you need is access to a chair and a wall, perfect for when you’re in the office or at home.
Sleep as Android
Developing a healthier lifestyle is appropriately maintaining your sleep for better workouts, improved mental health, and reduced risk of diseases. One of the most prominent sleep tracking apps is Sleep As Android. Not only has it garnered a large user base, but it has also even earned Google’s prestigious Editor’s choice award.
The app can provide nightly stats on sleep quality, measure sleep trends over time, and it has an alarm feature that can wake users with a gentle vibration on the wrist and/or with a series of customizable sounds. After gathering enough data, Sleep As Android can also provide a sleep score to let users know how rested they are over time.
My Fitness Pal
You cannot ignore your eating habits if you’re trying to become fit and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Knowing how many calories you ingest in a day will help you set up your daily exercise routine and set your unhealthy snacking habits straight. One of our favorite calorie-counter apps is My Fitness Pal. My Fitness Pal logs precisely what you’re eating by consulting a food library, scanning a barcode, and letting you manually input food items you’re about to digest. You can also set up notifications for daily reminders to log your meals into the app. If logging your eating habits isn’t enough, My Fitness Pal also teaches you how to prepare healthier meals and stay connected socially to help your stay motivated.
FatSecret
While My Fitness Pal is the best all-in-one food tracker app, you might be looking for a simple and completely free (no premium membership needed) alternative for calorie-counting, which is what we have by using FatSecret. Like My Fitness Pal, you can still scan barcodes on products and use image recognition to record your meals; you also have access to a journal, a calendar system, and a photo album to keep a record of all the progress you’ve made. FatSecret also supports integration with Google Fit, Samsung Health, and Fitbit, so you don’t have to worry about losing your records, no matter the main health app you use!
Calm
An underrated aspect of maintaining a healthier life is looking after your mental health. Our lives get busy, and it is often neglected we look after our well-being. So we turn to apps that help us refocus and meditate our minds; one of our personal favorites and an Editor’s choice is the Calm app. Within the app, you can swipe through several visual “scenes” that include environmental sounds to center yourself. For added serenity, engage in guided breathing exercises, body stretches, meditation, or unlock masterclasses from mindfulness experts. The Calm app has everything you need to improve your mental health.
Take control over your health and fitness
Hopefully, we’ve provided a list of apps that promote healthy living and aid your fitness goals. An app like Google Fit can do wonders to help track your fitness goals and stay healthy; but it ultimately boils down to the user making plans and acting on them to ensure healthy living. So, carefully review these above apps to see if they match what you’re looking for in your routine to ensure you stick with them.

MASK ON
Updated: 6:02 ET, Oct 6 2022
THE latest episode of The Masked Singer saw a shocking unmasking and yet another clue that led fans to believe that Harp is Amber Riley.
After singing The Jeffersons theme song, Fortune Teller was revealed to be businessman Daymond John in a twist that shocked host Nick Cannon, who told the Shark Tank CEO how much he loved FUBU.
Fortune Teller lost the Battle Royale sing-off to the reigning queen Harp, who fans are convinced is former Glee star Amber Riley.
Online fans lost their minds when actress Tori Spelling presented a clue to Harp’s identity that consisted of a box of purple mashed potatoes, with one viewer theorizing: “Amber Riley…purple mashed potatoes stand for the purple piano on Glee where they did mashups.”
The Masked Singer airs on Wednesday nights at 8pm ET on FOX.

Who is Ken Jeong? part three
Tran Ho, Jeong’s wife, is a breast cancer survivor and a Vietnamese American family physician.
Zooey and Alexa are their twin children, born in 2007.
Jeong lives in Calabasas, California, with his family.
Who is Ken Jeong? continued
Jeong is still a registered physician in California, but he has retired from practice to pursue his acting career.
He is presently a panelist on the American version of the singing competition show The Masked Singer, and he was previously featured on the British version’s inaugural series.
He’s also the host of the show I Can Hear Your Voice.
Who is Ken Jeong?
Ken Jeong is an American stand-up comedian, actor, producer, writer, television personality, and licensed physician, who was born on July 13, 1969.
He became well-known for his roles as Leslie Chow in The Hangover films and Ben Chang in the NBC sitcom Community.
He starred in the ABC comedy Dr. Ken, in which he developed, wrote, and produced, and he has also acted in the films Knocked Up, Role Models, Furry Vengeance), The Duff, Ride Along 2, Crazy Rich Asians, and Tom & Jerry.
Season eight’s judges
Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke have all returned as judges this season of The Masked Singer.
Who went home last week?
Two masked singers were unmasked and eliminated last week.
The Pi-Rat was eliminated and revealed to be Jeff Dunham
The Panther was eliminated and revealed to be Montell Jordan.
‘Sleeper-hit’ host
Season eight of The Masked Singer sees seven-time host Nick Cannon returning to emcee the series for another edition.
Cannon was first offered the hosting gig in 2018 and saw immediate potential in the show’s concept.
He revealed to Variety: “I thought that this idea is so crazy, it’s either going to be a huge failure or a huge hit.
“Luckily for me, it was the latter. But that’s confirmation of the type of creator and entertainer that I am. I’ve always been the sleeper-hit guy.”
First judge on the panel
In November 2017, FOX began developing an American version of the South Korean reality show The King of Mask Singer.
In 2018, Crazy Rich Asians star Ken Jeong was the first celebrity to sign on to The Masked Singer’s judging panel.
Regarding the decision, Ken told Gold Derby: “When I was offered to be on it, I asked my mom.
“I’m of Korean descent and my mum still gets all her Korean TV shows via satellite.
“She was like ‘you’ve got to do it. It’s a huge hit. It’s gonna help your career.”
The actor stated: “I’m not qualified to be on that show. I’m not a trained singer.
“So I was very loose about it. I felt I was the Homer Simpson of the show. The producers enjoy the stupidity I bring to the show.”
Contestants get paid to appear
While there is no grand prize, the contestants are paid to appear on the show.
The contestants are paid per week for the episodes they appear on, and receive a signing bonus.
Each contestant has no definitive salary, but the dollar amount most likely varies.
As with other similar shows, the weekly salary and signing bonus vary with the magnitude of the star performing.
The Masked Singer is based on a Korean show
The viral competition program is inspired by the South Korean show King of Masked Singer, which debuted in 2015.
The candidates in the American series are dressed in full-body costumes, but the contestants in the South Korean version are generally dressed in masks and large clothes.
According to Insider, the program was such a smash in South Korea that it has been remade in China, Vietnam, and Thailand.
How The Masked Singer works, continued
Following the performances, the audience and panelists use an electronic gadget to vote for their favorite performer.
The show employs a weighted voting method, in which each panelist and audience member’s vote is worth 50 percent of the total score.
The competitor with the lowest popularity removes their disguise to reveal their true identity.
This process of elimination continues for a certain number of episodes until only three participants remain in the season finale, after which one is named the champion when they perform once more.
As a prize, the Golden Mask trophy is presented to the winner.
How The Masked Singer works
Each season of The Masked Singer has a different cast of celebrities.
In an episode, four to six competitors sing a 90-second cover song in costume for panelists and an audience.
Before and after each performance, hints – or clue packages – about their identities are presented.
A filmed interview with a celebrity’s electronically disguised voice narrating a video with subtle allusions to what they are renowned for is a recurring format.
The judges are given the opportunity to guess each singer’s identity out loud and record remarks in note binders during screenings of the clue packages, following performances, and before each elimination.
Costume designer, continued
As a result, Toybina may create several variations before deciding which would be exhibited throughout a season.
Participants are given numerous options to choose from based on their history and what could fit them best.
Their reasons for wearing a costume vary; some have an emotional attachment to it.
Others, on the other hand, prefer to be able to roam around freely throughout performances.
Masked Singer costume designer identity revealed
Marina Toybina created the series’ costumes. She incorporates celebrity and producer requests in addition to her own thoughts while generating early proposals.
By employing diverse stitching and construction techniques, each is intended to stand out from those seen in prior seasons and other iterations of the Masked Singer series.
Toybina drafts each concept with a pencil and works with an illustrator to make a digital version with a 3D look after researching fur and skin textures, historical dresses, and everything that could be related to each character.
Producers go over each design and make notes on what needs to be changed.
Who is Daymond John?
Daymond John is a branding expert and one of the stars of ABC’s Shark Tank.
It is believed that businessman and motivational speaker Daymond John has a net worth of $350million.
“Daymond John has come a long way from turning a $40 budget into FUBU, a $6 billion fashion game-changer,” reads his website.
“Throughout his career, Daymond has continued to be an entrepreneur in every sense of the word.
“He is not only a pioneer in the fashion industry but a Shark on the 4-time Emmy Award winning Shark Tank, a New York Times best-selling author, branding guru, and highly sought-after motivational speaker.”
FUBU is an American hip hop apparel company launched by John and others. FUBU stands for “For Us, By Us.”
Kevin McHale convinced the Harp is co-star
In a posted on his account yesterday, Glee star Kevin McHale shared a video of himself reacting to The Harp’s performance of I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston on The Masked Singer last week, and he seemed to know who was behind the mask.
The video was captioned, with a sarcastic undertone: “Check out this brand new singer.”
Throughout the video, he made facial expressions of feigned surprise as he sung along to the song he believed was sung by his former Glee co-star Amber Riley.

Heres What Crypto Billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried Thinks About Markets Have We Bottomed? Cryptonews
Here’s What Crypto Billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried Thinks About Markets – Have We Bottomed? – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/heres-what-crypto-billionaire-sam-bankman-fried-thinks-about-markets-have-we-bottomed-cryptonews/
Sam Bankman-Fried. Source: a video screenshot, Forbes / YouTube
While many industry observers ask themselves whether the crypto markets have reached their bottom level before they will rebound, Sam Bankman-Fried, the outspoken CEO and founder of major crypto exchange FTX, believes that the coming months could see crypto pegged to the general outlook for the macro environment.
“[W]hat we’re seeing driving markets is changes in interest rates, which is leading to the strengthening and weakening of fiat currencies, and so whenever you have the dollar moving, right, if the dollar strengthens, it’s going to strengthen against Exxon, it’s going to strengthen against Amazon, and it’s going to strengthen against Bitcoin, and when you have it weaken, you’re going to see the inverse,” the entrepreneur told Laura Shin of the Unchained podcast.
Bankman-Fried believes that, as “a lot of macro is being driven by moves in currencies, that’s going to move this sort of, you know, crypto prices against dollars.”
“So, one sort of boring answer to the question is … if markets go up, probably crypto will go up. If markets go down, it’ll go down, but let’s maybe factor that out for a second and sort of talk about, … relative to whatever happens to stock markets,” he said.
The FTX’ CEO estimates that regulatory activities by U.S. authorities are the factor that could exert the “biggest impact” on the crypto-sphere in the current market, and such a crucial development could take place soon, he said.
This would happen “if we saw, basically, regulatory regimes’ clarity, and particularly in the United States regulatory regimes come out that sort of allowed the industry to operate with clarity in the country while protecting consumers. That’s been sort of the biggest white whale for years and I think we might be close,” according to Bankman-Fried.
North Korea Fires More Missiles: U.S. Blames China Russia Axios
North Korea Fires More Missiles: U.S. Blames China, Russia – Axios https://collincountynewsonline.com/north-korea-fires-more-missiles-u-s-blames-china-russia-axios/
The U.S. ambassador to the UN accused Beijing and Moscow of “enabling” North Korea’s military after it fired two more ballistic missiles on Thursday following a Security Council meeting on the country’s recent launches.
Why it matters: Thursday’s launch was the sixth in 12 days, occurring after the U.S. redeployed an aircraft carrier off the Korean peninsula.
The big picture: The U.S. and several allies called for the emergency UN Security Council meeting due to Pyongyang conducting its longest-range ballistic missile test ever on Tuesday, sending the weapon flying over Japan — prompting Japanese officials to issue an evacuation warning.
The U.S. and South Korean military held live-fire drills in response to Pyongyang’s first missile launch over Japan since 2017.
After the U.S. repositioned the USS Ronald Reagan off the Korean peninsula, Pyongyang fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the sea on Thursday, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff and Japan’s government.
Driving the news: While the Biden administration called the missile test over Japan “dangerous and reckless” and a “clear violation” of Security Council resolutions, fellow permanent Security Council members Beijing and Moscow opposed calling the meeting — which ended with no solution.
Chinese and Russian officials accused Washington at the meeting of provoking the launches with military exercises.
What they’re saying: Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said after the latest missiles were fired that “the two Council members that are blocking us from taking action are enabling North Korea.”
Photo: Linda Thomas-Greenfield/Twitter
State of play: Tokyo lodged a “vehement protest” with North Korea over Thursday’s missile tests through official channels in Beijing.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters launching six missiles in such a short period “absolutely cannot be tolerated,” per Reuters.
Meanwhile, the North Korean foreign ministry said in a statement it “strongly condemns the U.S.” and its allies for calling the Security Council meeting and claimed the repositioning of the USS Ronald Reagan was “a serious threat to the stability of the situation on the Korean peninsula and in its vicinity.”
The ministry claimed firing the latest missiles was “just counteraction” for the U.S.-South Korean military drills.
Between the lines: North Korea’s “consistent and persistent claims” that its missile launches are in response to joint U.S.-South Korea military drills form part of Pyongyang’s “long running strategy of establishing equivalence between their illicit provocations” and the U.S.-South Korea drills, said Go Myong-hyun, a senior fellow at the Asan Institute of Policy Studies in Seoul, per the Washington Post.
The latest North Korean foreign ministry statement “echoes precisely the talking points intended to inculcate the perception that the drills and provocations are equivalent, when in fact they are not,” Go added.
South Korean Defense Ministry spokesperson Moon Hong Sik said Pyongyang’s spate of recent launches indicate an “urgency to meet” North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un’s weapons development goals, AP reports.

Amazon Discontinues Glow Video-Calling Device For Kids The Indian Express
Amazon Discontinues Glow Video-Calling Device For Kids – The Indian Express https://collincountynewsonline.com/amazon-discontinues-glow-video-calling-device-for-kids-the-indian-express/
Amazon.com Inc. is discontinuing its pandemic-era kids’ video calling device amid lackluster sales and a shift in consumer behavior.
Launched a year ago, the Amazon Glow emerged from the company’s Grand Challenge moonshot laboratory. It seemed the perfect pandemic-era product: a combination video screen and projector that helped children get face time, play games, read and even draw with distant relatives.
But sales were slow, and Amazon is now looking to shift employees who worked on the gadget into other roles.
“At Amazon we think big, experiment, and invest in new ideas to delight customers,” said Amazon spokeswoman Kristy Schmidt, who confirmed the Glow’s cancellation. “We also continually evaluate the progress and potential of our products to deliver customer value, and we regularly make adjustments based on those assessments. We will be sharing updates and guidance with Glow customers soon.”
Amazon has taken a number of measures to restrain costs as sales growth stagnates, including shuttering warehouses and freezing hiring for corporate jobs in its retail business.
Reviewers praised the device’s concept, but said it felt unfinished. A monthly subscription to an Amazon kid-focused service and a recommendation that the person on the other end use a tablet, not a smartphone, also may have limited its appeal. The device also hit the market as many consumers began to resume their normal habits following the release of Covid-19 vaccines.
Amazon doesn’t disclose sales data for its electronics, but Glow had about 500 customer reviews on the company’s retail site, low even by the standard of Amazon’s niche or experimental products. Glow was steeply discounted on Tuesday, listed at $150 for members of Amazon’s Prime program, 55% off the list price. Later in the day, it was unavailable.
Amazon’s devices group has produced such hits as the Echo smart speaker and Fire streaming sticks, but also has a history of launching devices that seem to be looking for a purpose. A voice-activated microwave oven launched in 2018 never caught on with shoppers, and Amazon’s effort to make its own smartphone, the Fire Phone launched in 2014, remains its biggest dud.

Mercedes Clement Case: Remains found in Collin County identified as woman missing nearly 2 years
Her case was featured on FOX 4’s Trackdown last year. In it, police shared surveillance video showing the last time clement was seen alive. Earlier this year, her remains were found. But it wasn’t until this week that they were identified.
PRINCETON, Texas – Police found skeletal remains in Princeton that have been identified as a 25-year-old North Texas woman who had been missing for nearly two years.
Her case was featured on FOX 4’s Trackdown last year. In it, police shared surveillance video showing the last time clement was seen alive.
Earlier this year, her remains were found. But it wasn’t until this week that they were identified.
Mercedes Clement was last seen October 11, 2020, after parking her car at the Koko Apartment Complex near Harry Hines Boulevard in Dallas.
RELATED: Family of Mercedes Clement still seeking answers a year after her disappearance
Security footage showed her walking with a man into his apartment. Due to a glitch with the surveillance, investigators said several hours of footage were not captured.
RELATED: Trackdown: Help find Mercedes Clement
The Princeton Police Department found skeletal remains back on February 13, 2022, at Morning Dove Lane and County Route 477, near Lavon Lake.
On Monday, the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified those remains as Clement by using a dental record comparison.
Detectives previously said 37-year-old Tanner Losson is a person of interest.
“She was seen going into his apartment,” said Clement’s mom, Alicia Gazotti. “She was never seen leaving because that video footage went out for eight hours.”
Wednesday, police would not confirm whether Losson remains a person of interest. Police said no one has been ruled out. He is in the Dallas County jail for unrelated charges.
“There’s still justice to be served,” Gazotti said.
On Tuesday, Clement’s family learned the news.
“We have an amazing detective team. They all came. All of them showed up together,” Gazotti said. “She has a son that I have to raise and explain to for the rest of his life why someone senselessly took her and dumped her somewhere.”
6-year-old Darryn is dealing with a loss no child should bare.
“She was found in a wooded area. Her son, if you remember me telling you last time, told us that he talked to her,” Gazotti said. “She told him that she was lost in a forest. She was lost in a forest.”
Clement’s family says she deserves to be a legacy — not an event. Throughout the two years of pain, they say they’ve felt the support from thousands of people across North Texas.
“We have asked you for two years to love her and to fight for her. And we have begged the community to help us,” Gazotti said. “And it would not be fair for me not to ask the community to grieve with us, right? Like, they deserve to grieve, too.”
Clement’s cause of death has not been released.
Dallas police are continuing to investigate this case.

ULI offers Everett tour and Emerging Trends
The Urban Land Institute has two notable events on the horizon. First is an Oct. 13 tour up in Everett at HopeWorks Station North, which earlier this year received a ULI Americas Award for Excellence. Beacon Development Group developed the LEED Platinum-certified, 65-unit affordable housing project for Housing Hope. It was completed circa 2019. Dykeman Architects and GGLO designed the project, which was built by Kirtley-Cole. Second is the annual Emerging Trends confab on Nov. 10 at Stadium Place’s Embassy Suites by Hilton. Thayer Manca lands Big Trout
Thayer Manca Residential announced its recent purchase of the 297-unit Big Trout in Liberty Lake. That’s a small community a little east of Spokane. Terms weren’t disclosed, but TMR says it plans to invest about $10 million in upgrades. The deal brings TMR’s Washington state multifamily portfolio to five properties with 808 units. Big Trout is the investor’s third state deal in the past four months. (Other properties are in Tumwater and Seattle.) The firm’s Joe Manca said in a statement, “It’s been quite a year so far. Our conservative and patient approach to deploying investor capital has paid off.” Over five states, TMR has about 3,425 units, which it values at $850 million.

7 Steps To Fuel Your Body – Massage Magazine https://collincountynewsonline.com/7-steps-to-fuel-your-body-massage-magazine/
Food represents and provides many things: energy, nutrition, culture, celebration, enjoyment and even medicine. Technically, food breaks into five fundamental categories that we need in proper proportions to fuel our body for optimal health and wellness: macro-nutrients including carbohydrates, fats and proteins, and micro-nutrients including vitamins and minerals.
Eating Habits Matter
We all witness the negative consequences of poor eating habits. The U.S. is one of the unhealthiest nations in the world; with such diet-related diseases as heart disease and cancer being the number-one killers (absent a pandemic).
Good eating habits are core to good nutrition, and nutrition is central to our health and wellness. The benefits of proper nutrition are powerful: heart health, lower blood pressure, reduced cancer risk, lowered cholesterol, weight management, improved sleep, diabetes avoidance, strong bones and teeth, gut health, even-better mood and improved memory.
Emerging research demonstrates that good nutrition together with lifestyle choices can even counteract a genetic predisposition toward a disease state. Experts have a saying, “Genetics loads the gun, but the environment pulls the trigger.”That means if we have the genes, our environment, including eating choices, may be the only thing standing between us and developing a chronic condition.
There is evidence that one can turn off a negative gene marker through positive lifestyle choices. This is truly good news, indicating we have great influence over our current and future health.
Yet, the reality is too many people do not receive the nutrition their bodies require from the food they eat due to factors like limited time, family constraints, lack of convenience, familiar habits, awareness, as well as taste preferences.
Have you heard the adage: “You are what you eat”? This is a half-truth. The full truth is, “We are what we digest and absorb.” Ideally, we receive the vast majority of our required macro- and micro-nutrients through the real, whole, natural and fresh food that we eat.
For example, it is easier for your body to use vitamins and minerals that come from a balanced diet rather than from supplements, according to a clinical professor Emma Laing, PhD, RDN. Compounds in fruits and vegetables work synergistically to promote wellness and these cannot be replicated in a dietary supplement.
The Problem with Processed Foods
Refined and processed foods, meaning altered from their natural state, will never be as absorbable, digestible and healthy as Mother Nature’s offerings. Consider the relationship between the surge in diet diseases and the evolution of our food chain. Less than 50 years ago most food was locally sourced and largely fresh, while today, most food is non-local, largely processed and full of additives.
Refined or processed food almost universally involves removing fiber and nutrients while inserting seasonings and additives. Why? Fiber is difficult to preserve, so it is removed to improve shelf stability. And seasonings, disproportionately sugar and salt, lead to preferred taste, driving demand. As we eat more processed and packaged foods that are higher in these additives and devoid of fiber, it often leads to long-term nutritional gaps and poor health.
I believe one reason I used to consistently overeat was because my body was craving the nutrients it was not always receiving. A fundamental step for me in reversing my overeating was shifting to more of a plant-based diet. While I did not set out to drop pounds, I began to lose weight by feeding my body more of what it needed, making it easier to eat less.
7 Steps to Help You Fuel Your Body
Here are seven tips leading to healthy eating habits. Pick and choose what works for you, repeat and be patient with yourself as any improvement to your proper fueling is hugely beneficial.
1. Embrace moderation. Eat a little bit of everything and not too much of anything, with just one exception …
2. Eat lots of veggies, every day! As wide a variety as possible, as many colors as possible. The longest-living populations around the world share a common dietary characteristic—they all eat a largely whole-food, plant-based diet.
3. Focus on food, not nutrients. Concentrate on eating fresh (versus preserved), whole (versus refined), natural (versus modified) foods whenever possible, and the nutrients will take care of themselves.
4. Eat what makes you happy. Remember to balance both immediate and long-term happiness. Might you want a treat for immediate taste-bud pleasure? Go ahead and occasionally indulge. Also be mindful of your body as that healthy salad will make your body happy long-term. Part of moderation is finding your best balance between happy now and happy later.
5. Embrace the bitter. Raw kale, spinach, collard greens and other leafy-green superfoods have a bitter taste, which can be acquired. (Remember, there likely are items in your current diet that were also acquired tastes you chose to nurture, like coffee, alcohol, raw oysters, sushi and blue cheese.)
My express lane to acquiring a taste for bitter was through a daily veggie smoothie brimming with natural, whole-food fiber and nutrition. It’s like drinking a healthy salad for breakfast every day. Initially nasty, then tolerable and now enjoyable! Find your own way to tolerating, if not embracing, bitter. To help you get started, here is my favorite Green Smoothie recipe:
Green Smoothie Recipe
Cut, combine, and blend the following until smooth:
• Five to six stalks of celery (remove any leaves)
• Five to six inches of cucumber (English cucumber seeds are more easily digested)
• Two handfuls of spinach
• One avocado
• One handful of collard greens (can substitute swiss chard)
• One handful of kale
• One handful of cilantro
• Portion of or full fresh jalapeno pepper (to achieve desired flavor)
• Water to achieve your desired consistency (I use 2 ¾ cups)
• Personal preferences: Include all stalks for fiber benefit, use organic produce, and substitute one cup of bone broth (reducing water the same amount)
6. Make your environment work for you, not against you. Simply remove non-desired items from your environment and replace these with healthy options that make your road to better eating habits a smoother ride.
7. Engage a like-minded friend who can support you, encourage accountability, even let you vent when you feel challenged or had a setback. We all need cheerleaders to reach lasting change.
Nutritious and Delicious
Healthy food is nutritious—and can also be delicious! Best wishes on developing better eating habits to fuel your daily performance.

Steve Brownlee
I wanted to look at some light-hearted or humorous story to start off this week’s Armchair Quarterback, and after scanning a list of AP stories, I thought I found it:
Elon Musk will, after all, spend his agreed-upon price of $44 billion to buy Twitter.
Geez, I don’t know if I’d pay more than $40 billion.
But that’s not as humorous a story in itself as much as my thinking that I would ever swim in that kind of money.
Instead, a “real” sports story from Monday afternoon struck me as funny:
The county prosecutor in Cleveland has opened an investigation into a walleye tournament with some “fishy” things going on.
It seems there’s video on Twitter — not yet Elon Musk’s personal property — showing the tournament director for the Lake Erie Walleye Trail cutting open the winning catch on Friday and finding lead weights and prepared fish filets inside.
OK, I can see the lead weights, but fish filets — eat those for dinner! Instead, put some dog food or cat food inside the unnaturally heavy fish, why dontcha?
Now Ohio Department of Natural Resources officers are gathering evidence for the local prosecutor.
“I take all crime seriously, including attempted felony theft at a fishing tournament,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley is quoted as saying. “These individuals will be held accountable.”
So I guess making bad NFL picks isn’t such a crime compared to what these dufuses were up to (I had to look that word up online a couple different ways to even get close to spelling it the right way):
——————–
Indianapolis at Denver — Two teams on a downward spiral, and I hear that Denver’s dynamic running back Javonte Williams is out for the season. But I also heard that Indy’s top back Jonathan Taylor is dinged up. Just to make it easy, I’ll simply go for the home team. Broncos, 24-17.
——————–
Sunday, 9:30 a.m.
New York Giants at Green Bay — Something tells me a veteran team will better handle all the changes to routine when making a trip across the pond and playing at quite an odd time.
Don’t forget to set your alarm! Packers, 33-23.
——————–
Sunday, 1 p.m.
Pittsburgh at Buffalo — Buffalo has played two bad first halves in a row, so I see an emphasis on getting off to a fast start. Bills, 34-20.
——————–
Los Angeles Chargers at Cleveland — You’ve always got to be wary when a West Coast team is playing what is to them a 10 a.m. game across the country. But I just think this L.A. team is too much for a town now best known for its crooked fishing tournaments. Chargers, 27-24.
——————–
Houston at Jacksonville — The Texans aren’t getting blown out, evidenced by their only being outscored by 20 points despite a paltry 0-3-1 record, the worst in the NFL. But they aren’t winning, either. Jaguars, 26-22.
——————–
Chicago at Minnesota — Walking in Army boots is fine when it’s muddy in the woods, but not when you’re running on someone’s lawn next to world-class athletes wearing whatever the latest in UnderArmour and Nike athletic wear is. That’s the Bears wearing the boots, by the way. Vikings, 30-17.
——————–
Detroit at New England — They better watch out or they’re going to change the name of the team to “Etroit” Lions since the “D” has apparently been lost somewhere along Woodward Avenue.
It’s too bad as the 1-3 Lions have the No. 1 scoring offense in the league — 11 points better than even Kansas City — but are 32nd in points allowed, a whopping 26 points worse than all others.
Looking at it more closely, eight NFL teams have given up less than half as many points as “Etroit”s 141, and a couple of others are half a point away from that distinction.
If anyone can take advantage of a team like this, I would think it’s Bill Belichick in New England. Patriots, 34-28.
——————–
Seattle at New Orleans — I’ll buy the Kool-Aid after Seattle came to Detroit and won, considering the mess the Saints look to be in. Seahawks, 28-24.
——————–
Miami at New York Jets — This New York outfit has been up and down, while the Dolphins look down with Tua Tagovailoa still out with his concussion(s). Jets, 23-19.
——————–
Atlanta at Tampa Bay — I have to say I’m more impressed with Tampa’s 10-point loss to KC on Sunday than I am with the Falcons’ 3-point win against Cleveland. Buccaneers, 21-17.
——————–
Tennessee at Washington — Despite Houston having the worst record in the league, I’d put the 1-3 Commanders atop my list of the worst actual teams. Titans, 27-19.
——————–
Sunday, 4 p.m.
San Francisco at Carolina — Trap game alert! On paper, the 49ers are SO far ahead of Carolina, but whenever Baker Mayfield gets backed in a corner, he seems to play his best. However, San Fran’s ball-control game might work here, even coming off a short week on the road. 49ers, 23-16.
——————–
Philadelphia at Arizona — It’s a battle of running quarterbacks. The difference is that while Cardinals QB Kyler Murray runs for his life in the backfield, Philly’s Jalen Hurts runs through and around D-linemen and linebackers for massive gains downfield. Eagles, 37-24.
——————–
Dallas at Los Angeles Rams — Apparently the Rams were exposed Monday night as having no weapons and no offensive line. Cowboys, 28-18.
——————–
Sunday, 8:20 p.m.
Cincinnati at Baltimore — I will agree that Lamar Jackson is the most dynamic, really the best QB in the league right now. But with only Detroit keeping the Ravens’ defense from doing total bottom dwelling, Cincy’s Joe Burrow might stay upright this time around. Bengals, 32-27.
——————–
Monday, 8:15 p.m.
Las Vegas at Kansas City — Not betting against the No. 2 offense against any kind of Raiders defense. Chiefs, 33-26.
——————–
Last week — 11-5, 69 percent (first winning week this season). Season — 32-31-1, 51 percent.

Improve Apartment Wi-Fi With D-Link R15 (Review) – Gadgetguy.com.au https://collincountynewsonline.com/improve-apartment-wi-fi-with-d-link-r15-review-gadgetguy-com-au/
The Wi-Fi router that came with your NBN subscription is probably not the best when it comes to the latest features and technologies. Do you live in an apartment and can see many Wi-Fi networks? As a result, your Wi-Fi may be the weakest link in the chain for fast and reliable internet access. Never fear, D-Link’s R15 smart router may be just the product to get your home network up to speed at a reasonable price.

About:
D-Link is a global leader in designing and developing networking and connectivity products for consumers, small businesses, medium to large-sized enterprises, and service providers.
The Eagle Pro AI range
D-Link has a family of routers branded Eagle Pro AI. They all support Mesh technology and speeds up to 1.5Gbps as well as the latest Wi-Fi 6 (802.11AX) technology.
Mesh technology will help extend your network, and we’ll explain more on this later. With Wi-Fi 6, this is the newest Wi-Fi standard, meaning improved performance, greater coverage, support for more devices, and better security. If you have a smartphone or PC that also supports Wi-Fi 6, you will see an improvement in how it connects to your home Wi-Fi compared to older devices. The speed and reliability of the connection will be better, as is the encryption, which means you are safeguarding your family network.
Here’s a quick summary of the Eagle Pro AI range:
Eagle Pro AI M15 multi-unit mesh solution
Eagle Pro AI R15 stand-alone mesh router with high gain antenna
Eagle Pro AI E15 wall plug wireless mesh range extender
Eagle Pro AI G415 3G/4G mobile network router that you can take with you
Is the D-Link R15 mesh router right for me?
This router is priced well for what you get. It supports the latest technology mentioned above, giving you a period of future-proofing. If the area you want to cover is less than 230 square meters or about 15m by 15m, this product is ideal and suits high-density living-like apartments. One of its features is an AI (Artificial Intelligence) Wi-Fi optimiser that connects you to the least congested channel. If you are surrounded by many other routers/Wi-Fi networks, it will always look for the least congestion to ensure your network works well.
Suppose you require coverage of a bigger area or have thick walls or other obstacles blocking the signal in your house. In that case, you can add any of the above Eagle Pro products and set it up as a mesh extender. A Mesh router allows you to essentially repeat that signal by creating a repeater station. A mesh router also keeps the same network name, meaning a seamless signal handoff between base stations. As you walk around your house, the router operates just like a mobile phone network, handing the signal from one base station to the next.
For visitors, you can set up a guest network from the downloadable App to keep your devices and information on a completely separate network. You can also limit guests’ speed to keep the best performance for yourself. Access for the guest can be as simple as scanning a QR code.
Eagle Pro AI – Artificial intelligence makes it work better
The R15 uses 5Ghz and 2.4GHz spectrums to talk to your devices. The 5GHz is faster, but the 2.4GGz will travel further. The R15 automatically moves your devices between these Wi-Fi bands to maximise performance for all devices. It will also recognise when some applications need more bandwidth. The software ensures that the heavy bandwidth devices get what they need to work properly, like watching a 4K video feed from Netflix or video conferencing.
D-Link R15 Parental Control
The Parental control function allows you to block specific users, restrict internet access during certain times or filter certain websites. The D-Link app access to this feature set is one of the easiest on the market, as shown in this video.
Set up
Out of the box, the router comes with a power pack and an ethernet cable. To set up, simply download the EAGLE PRO AI app for Android or Apple and follow the simple onscreen instructions. This will include connecting your ethernet cable to your NBN modem and plugging it into the yellow socket. You will have the option to change the network ID name and password at one point, which is good to do from a security standpoint. You will also need to set a device password. Best to keep a record of that password just in case. Total setup took us around 5 minutes, and we did not need to know anything technical to install it.
After you set up, the unit will likely do a software upgrade. These will happen automatically so you don’t have to worry about it. Software updates improve performance, and security, and sometimes add new features.
Using the app
The EAGLE PRO AI APP is simple to use and clearly lays out your options. A YouTube video appears when you first visit a new section to explain how that feature works, like “AI assistant”.
AI assistant will allow you to take steps to optimise your network as well as provide reports with suggestions to improve your network.
Another feature we liked is that you can choose to receive a message on your smartphone if the router is disconnected from the internet. With this alert you will know there is a problem before the complaints start coming in from the family.
The Eagle Pro AI router is a set-and-forget unit for most people, but you can do some other cool stuff like controlling the router from your Alexa or Google smart assistant, test your internet speed and access advanced options for those who want to tinker with the settings
GadgetGuy’s take
At under $200, this router has the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology and is coupled with some built-in AI smarts. It’s also a solid out-of-the-box solution for apartment dwellers and small homes. The Mesh network can easily be expanded by adding an Eagle Pro AI extender for $180, almost doubling the available area coverage.
The AI Wi-Fi optimiser feature helps overcome congestion caused by many competing Wi-Fi networks. By downloading the App, you can simply roll out your new network and maintain it by having simple control from the palm of your hand, including parental controls and guest networks.

Here’s Why This Expert Thinks The Next Crypto Bearish Trend May Be Near – NewsBTC https://collincountynewsonline.com/heres-why-this-expert-thinks-the-next-crypto-bearish-trend-may-be-near-newsbtc/
The past few months have brought a rollercoaster experience for the prices of cryptocurrencies. The crypto market has been hovering due to the impact of macro factors. But the past 24 hours created a new move of strength in the market.
Almost all the assets made positive moves to push the market into the green. The price of Bitcoin has gradually climbed to its critical level of $20K as the token amassed over a 2.5% uptrend. In the early trading hours of today, the BTC price reached $20,342.
Bitcoin price trends above the $20,000 mark l BTCUSDT on Tradingview.com
The bullish trend cuts across the altcoins and other crypto assets. Ethereum has crossed the $1,350 level as it rose by over 1.8% over the past day.
Dogecoin (DOGE) made a tremendous reclaiming with a surge of over 8% over the past 24 hours. This mark an outstanding bullish strength in the digital asset market for today.
Also, Ripple (XRP) redirected its pattern through an increase of about 5% in the last 24 hours.
Experts Think Digital Assets Market Can’t Sustain A Price Rally
Experts predict another bottom for the crypto market despite its recent impressive price movements. They think the crypto assets lack sustainability for the price rally and will soon experience a bearish trend.
The CEO of Eight Global and crypto analyst, Michael van de Poppe, commented on a possible turn of the crypto market. He thinks that the value of the US dollar will soon rally. According to him, such a new development will impact the crypto market through a slight correction.
Additionally, the data for US unemployment is set to be announced on Friday. In his thinking, Michael Poppe stated that the data could be wrong and negatively affect the crypto market.
In recent years, macroeconomic conditions have negatively affected the crypto market. As a result, such conditions now dictate the price trend in the market. This follows the strong correlation between crypto and traditional general markets.
Crypto Market Still In Struggle
Despite its recent bullish trend, there are still signs of struggles in the crypto market. The US Federal Reserve took a hawkish stance in its controlling measures against inflation. With its approach of increasing interest rates and tightening other financial operations, many people are in fear.
Following hikes in rates by global economies, the United Nations has requested that they avert the use of an aggressive approach. Instead, the UN highlighted a possible global recession with the stance of most central banks. But the American central bank will not tune down its force.
Oil prices are adding to the tension in the raging macroeconomic environment. As a result, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has planned to reduce supplies to hike oil prices, the worst reduction since 2020. The OPEC is expected to hold its meeting on Wednesday for its final decision.

US Believes Elements Within Ukraine’s Government Authorized Assassination Near Moscow, Sources Say – CNN https://collincountynewsonline.com/us-believes-elements-within-ukraines-government-authorized-assassination-near-moscow-sources-say-cnn/
Washington CNN —
The US intelligence community believes that the car bombing that killed Darya Dugina, the daughter of prominent Russian political figure Alexander Dugin, was authorized by elements within the Ukrainian government, sources briefed on the intelligence told CNN.
The US was not aware of the plan beforehand, according to the sources, and it is still unclear who exactly the US believes signed off on the assassination. It is also not clear whether the US intelligence community believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was aware of the plot or authorized it.
But the intelligence finding, first reported by the New York Times, would seem to corroborate elements of the Russian authorities’ findings that the car bombing was “pre-planned.” Russia had accused Ukrainian nationals of being responsible for the attack, which Ukraine had strongly denied in the aftermath of the explosion.
Asked to comment, a Ukrainian defense intelligence official told CNN Wednesday evening following publication of the latest reports that their agency had no new information on Dugina’s death. Shortly after her death, the same official had told CNN that Ukraine had nothing to do with it.
The National Security Council, CIA and State Department declined to comment.
US intelligence officials believe that Dugina was driving her father’s car on the night she was killed, and that her father was the actual target of the operation, one of the sources said. Dugin is a Russian ultranationalist and philosopher who has been a fierce proponent of Russia’s war in Ukraine. A friend of Dugina also told the Russian state owned news outlet TASS shortly after the explosion that the car she was driving was her father’s.
Just days after Dugina’s death, Russian authorities accused a Ukrainian woman of remotely detonating explosives planted in Dugina’s Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and then driving through the Pskov region and into Estonia to escape.
Oleksii Danylov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security Council, immediately denied the allegation. “We have nothing to do with the murder of this lady – this is the work of the Russian special services,” he said in August. Zelensky adviser Mykhailo Podolyak also said at the time that the Russian accusation reflected the “fictional world” the Russian government is operating in.
The intelligence surrounding Ukraine’s involvement, if accurate, would signal a bold expansion of Ukraine’s covert operations to target a well-known political figure just outside of Moscow.
To date, Ukrainian strikes inside Russia have largely been limited to attacks on fuel depots and military bases in cities along the Russia-Ukraine border, like Belgorod. But the US does not have good visibility into all of Ukraine’s planned strikes, sources told CNN.
A Ukrainian official told CNN that the US intelligence community’s findings had not been broached during a meeting between US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Zelensky’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak in Istanbul earlier this week. It is not clear whether the issue was raised more recently by President Joe Biden in a phone call with Zelensky on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the National Security Council declined to comment.
Dugina, who was 29 when she was killed, was a public figure in her own right and frequently appeared as a commentator on Russian TV networks pushing anti-West, nationalist narratives.
As CNN has previously reported, Dugina also ran an English- and Turkish-language website called United World International, which itself was part of a broader propaganda effort known as “Project Lakhta.” The State Department has accused Project Lakhta of deploying online “trolls” to interfere in US elections.
The US sanctioned both Dugin and Dugina after Russia’s invasion in February, accusing them of spreading propaganda and acting to destabilize Ukraine.

Jio 5G Welcome Offer Announced: How To Get The Invite? India Today
Jio 5G Welcome Offer Announced: How To Get The Invite? – India Today https://collincountynewsonline.com/jio-5g-welcome-offer-announced-how-to-get-the-invite-india-today/
Reliance Jio’s 5G services are rolling out in four cities, days after Airtel launched its 5G network in India. While Reliance claims that users can enjoy true 5G in India due to its investment in standalone (SA) technology, there’s still a lot of confusion regarding availability and pricing. That’s because of its new “welcome offer” that technically brings 5G to customers on a trial basis.
This raises more questions about who is eligible and how to avail the Jio 5G welcome offer. Currently, more clarity from Jio is awaited, but we have an idea about availability and eligibility.
Where is Jio 5G available: Reliance Jio said its 5G started rolling out in four cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Varanasi on October 5, on the occasion of Dussehra. The company clarified that this is its “beta trial” phase of its “true-5G”. It means that not all users (even in these four cities) are eligible in the initial phase and 5G will arrive to select users on an invite basis.
Once it is widely available in these four cities, Jio will start rolling out services in more cities. The company has said it aims to cover all districts by December 2023.
Who is eligible for Jio 5G welcome offer, how to get: Let’s start with the obvious. Only phones compatible with 5G will get the fast-internet connectivity option.
To check whether your phone supports the technology, find the model number and go to the official manufacturers’ website to see the specifications. If there’s nothing on 5G for the specific smartphone, your phone does not have the option.
Secondly, Jio has not opened any dedicated channels to sign up for its 5G services. It is likely that the company will select customers in these four cities and automatically upgrade their 4G plan to 5G. It also means users won’t be required to upgrade their SIM cards.
To recall, when Jio launched its 4G services in India, it announced a similar welcome offer that allowed users to enjoy services for 90 days for free. A similar scheme is expected with the latest iteration of the 5G welcome offer.
Select Jio customers will automatically be updated to the 5G network for free. Following that, more users will get to use the benefits.
Jio 5G cost: Currently, the company has not clarified Jio 5G tariffs. Jio has repeatedly said its 5G services will be aggressively priced to make India a 2G-Mukt (2G free) country. The company also highlights that 5G services will bring “transformational changes across Education, Healthcare, Agriculture, Skill Development, Small, Medium, and Large enterprises, IoT, Smart homes, and Gaming, impacting 1.4 billion Indians”.

For Legacy High band members, Tyler Champion and Lacey Ramedo, they never attended the festival since it was canceled due to COVID-19 when they we’re sixth graders, but now they’re on the field performing.
“I think the sixth graders should be very excited they should get up and have the time of their lives with us,” Ramdeo said. “We’re doing a lot of new songs and some traditional songs, so I think they’ll have a very interesting taste in the type of music we play.”
Champion said time has flown by as he’s already in high school band, and playing in the festival means a lot.
“I feel very excited especially because we didn’t have that experience that they have now I feel like they should enjoy it a lot especially this new generation liking new stuff and being gen-z, I feel like they’ll enjoy it a lot,” Champion said.
The bands are excited to have the festival back, encouraging the sixth graders who attended to join their junior high bands next year.
