Bitcoin’s (BTC) price slumped a fraction of a percentage point on Wednesday but climbed back above the $20,000 level after slumping below earlier in the day. BTC had declined overnight and accelerated for several hours, with the sharpest decline occurring during the 13:00 UTC hour (9:00 a.m. ET), as U.S. traditional markets opened and ADP’s Employment report on job creation in the private sector arrived hotter than expected. BTC volume during the downturn exceeded its average volume during that time frame by 5 times. Ether’s (ETH) price’s also declined, as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization fell 0.95%, erasing a portion of its gains from the prior two days. ETH’s biggest drop occurred during the 13:00 UTC (9:00 a.m. ET) timeframe. ETH prices are down 19% since the Merge, the Ethereum network’s conversion from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake system on Sept. 15. The CoinDesk Market Index (CMI), a broad-based market index that measures the performance of a basket of cryptocurrencies, recently declined by 0.32%. U.S. Equities: Traditional stocks declined following strong labor data, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), tech-heavy Nasdaq composite and S&P 500 fell 0.14%, 0.25% and 0.20%, respectively. OPEC (the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) announced a 2 million barrel per day cut in oil production. In the U.S., crude oil inventories dropped by 1.36 million barrels versus expectations for a 2.1 million barrel increase for the week ending Sept 30. Gasoline inventories fell by 4.7 million barrels, significantly more than the expected 1.3 million barrel decrease, and the largest decline in eight weeks. Both developments will likely send energy prices higher, a challenging scenario given the U.S. central bank’s current priority to tame inflation. Energy markets rose following the OPEC announcement and U.S. inventory data, as WTI and Brent European crude increased 1.8% and 2%, respectively. Natural gas prices increased 1.8%. Metals: Gold prices declined 0.3%, while copper futures rose 1.6% ADP Employment, which measures job creation among private U.S. businesses, grew by 208,000 in September, versus consensus estimates of 200,000, and a 12% increase over the 185,000 jobs created in August. According to the report, annual pay increased 7.8% for workers who stayed at their jobs, while wages for job changers increased 15.7%. BTC continues to trade in a consolidated range BTC prices spent much of Wednesday toggling above and below $20,000, as the largest cryptocurrency by market cap continues to trade in a tight range. The Average True Range (ATR) for BTC has decreased 64% in 2022. ATR measures an asset’s daily range of movement. The contraction of ATR for bitcoin signals prices have gotten less volatile. In lieu of a tangible catalyst, BTC continues to fluctuate as the narrative around economic growth changes. Tuesday’s Market Wrap highlighted increased optimism for a Federal Reserve pivot to lower interest rates, which seemingly pushed risk assets (both traditional and digital) higher. Today’s better-than-expected ADP jobs data is having the opposite effect, giving the Fed additional cover to follow through on its intentions to push interest rates aggressively higher. The CME FedWatch tool continues to project another hefty 0.75-percentage-point (75-basis-point) rate hike in November. For BTC investors looking for bullish signs, on-chain analytics offer potential clues for bitcoin price expansion when volatility begins to increase. The net position change for stablecoins (denoted in green in the chart below) on cryptocurrency exchanges has begun to increase again, and has been net positive in each of the most recent 24 days. Often an increase in the balance of stablecoins implies additional buying pressure for an asset, whereas the increased supply of cryptocurrencies (i.e. BTC and ETH), implies increased selling pressure. For BTC investors leaning bearishly, the current bitcoin price appears to be near its production cost. Glassnode’s Difficulty Regression Model estimates the “cost of production” for BTC miners, and currently it puts that at approximately $18,081, or 11% below bitcoin’s current price. A reduction in BTC’s price below this figure is likely to add stress to bitcoin miners, which could have a downward impact on prices as well. Viewing that in conjunction with technical data, however, implies that while nearing the cost of production, buying support exists at levels above $18,000. Volume Profile Visual Range (VPVR), a tool that illustrates trading volume by price level, indicates that historically BTC investors have been willing to add to long positions in a range between $19,000 and $20,000. A panel of three judges from the conservative-leaning 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s ruling against the program, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), but remanded the case in light of a new regulation issued in August. Artificial Intelligence May Improve Suicide Prevention In The Future – Tech Business News https://collincountynewsonline.com/artificial-intelligence-may-improve-suicide-prevention-in-the-future-tech-business-news/ The loss of any life can be devastating, but the loss of a life from suicide is especially tragic Around nine Australians take their own life each day, and it is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15–44. Suicide attempts are more common, with some estimates stating that they occur up to 30 times as often as deaths. “Suicide has large effects when it happens. It impacts many people and has far-reaching consequences for family, friends and communities,” says Karen Kusuma, a UNSW Sydney PhD candidate in psychiatry at the Black Dog Institute, who investigates suicide prevention in adolescents. Ms Kusuma and a team of researchers from the Black Dog Institute and the Centre for Big Data Research in Health recently investigated the evidence base of machine learning models and their ability to predict future suicidal behaviours and thoughts. They evaluated the performance of 54 machine learning algorithms previously developed by researchers to predict suicide-related outcomes of ideation, attempt and death. The meta-analysis, published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, found machine learning models outperformed traditional risk prediction models in predicting suicide-related outcomes, which have traditionally performed poorly. “Overall, the findings show there is a preliminary but compelling evidence base that machine learning can be used to predict future suicide-related outcomes with very good performance,” Ms Kusuma says. Traditional suicide risk assessment models Identifying individuals at risk of suicide is essential for preventing and managing suicidal behaviours. However, risk prediction is difficult. In emergency departments (EDs), risk assessment tools such as questionnaires and rating scales are commonly used by clinicians to identify patients at elevated risk of suicide. However, evidence suggests they are ineffective in accurately predicting suicide risk in practice. “While there are some common factors shown to be associated with suicide attempts, what the risks look like for one person may look very different in another,” Ms Kusuma says. “But suicide is complex, with many dynamic factors that make it difficult to assess a risk profile using this assessment process.” A post-mortem analysis of people who died by suicide in Queensland found, of those who received a formal suicide risk assessment, 75 per cent were classified as low risk, and none was classified as high risk. Previous research examining the past 50 years of quantitative suicide risk prediction models also found they were only slightly better than chance in predicting future suicide risk. “Suicide is a leading cause of years of life lost in many parts of the world, including Australia. But the way suicide risk assessment is done hasn’t developed recently, and we haven’t seen substantial decreases in suicide deaths. In some years, we’ve seen increases,” Ms Kusuma says. Despite the shortage of evidence in favour of traditional suicide risk assessments, their administration remains a standard practice in healthcare settings to determine a patient’s level of care and support. Those identified as having a high risk typically receive the highest level of care, while those identified as low risk are discharged. “Using this approach, unfortunately, the high-level interventions aren’t being given to the people who really need help. So we must look to reform the process and explore ways we can improve suicide prevention,” Ms Kusuma says. Machine learning suicide screening Ms Kusuma says there is a need for more innovation in suicidology and a re-evaluation of standard suicide risk prediction models. Efforts to improve risk prediction have led to her research using artificial intelligence (AI) to develop suicide risk algorithms. “Having AI that could take in a lot more data than a clinician would be able to better recognise which patterns are associated with suicide risk,” Ms Kusuma says. In the meta-analysis study, machine learning models outperformed the benchmarks set previously by traditional clinical, theoretical and statistical suicide risk prediction models. They correctly predicted 66 per cent of people who would experience a suicide outcome and correctly predicted 87 per cent of people who would not experience a suicide outcome. “Machine learning models can predict suicide deaths well relative to traditional prediction models and could become an efficient and effective alternative to conventional risk assessments,” Ms Kusuma says. The strict assumptions of traditional statistical models do not bind machine learning models. Instead, they can be flexibly applied to large datasets to model complex relationships between many risk factors and suicidal outcomes. They can also incorporate responsive data sources, including social media, to identify peaks of suicide risk and flag times where interventions are most needed. “Over time, machine learning models could be configured to take in more complex and larger data to better identify patterns associated with suicide risk,” Ms Kusuma says. The use of machine learning algorithms to predict suicide-related outcomes is still an emerging research area, with 80 per cent of the identified studies published in the past five years. The latest fall foliage report shows that the leaves have only started to turn in parts of the Intermountain West, the Great Lakes and the North East. No fall foliage in Texas. North Texas doesn’t typically see the leaves change color until mid-November. Since it has been so hot and dry this year when the leaves do start to change colors they may not be as vibrant as years past. Texas A & M Forest Service states, “A summer without significant rain could lead to autumn without significant fall colors. Despite some late summer rain, much of Texas remains abnormally dry or in some stage of drought, and trees across the state are continuing to show signs of stress.” We had a significant dry stretch over the summer and we are in another one now. This past summer no rain occurred at DFW Airport from June 4- August 9, making it 67 days without rain. Our current dry streak is up to 32 days. We have been rain free since September 2.  Record rain in August helped erase some of the drought in North Texas, but it is still drier than normal. Moderate drought is still present in Collin County, as well as areas surrounding the DFW Metroplex. To the southwest, extreme drought is present in parts of Erath and Bosque Counties.  The long-range forecast continues to call for warmer and drier conditions in Texas. La Nina is forecast to around this winter contributing to that warm and dry forecast.

It took five weeks to find her bag, and Aer Lingus offered her only $259 for the trouble — about a third of the expense of replacing the bag and its contents. “I was so, so frustrated,” says Grilli, a retired state employee from Smithfield, R.I. “It was utter madness.” During the spring and summer, airlines mishandled tens of thousands of bags. (Remember those images of the luggage piled up at London’s Heathrow Airport?) Most were located quickly, but some stayed missing for weeks or are still gone. And, too often, airlines were reluctant to compensate their customers for the items, paying only a fraction of the replacement costs. “Lost luggage issues are top of mind for many travelers, with many airlines blaming understaffed airports for this rise in missing luggage,” says Carol Mueller, a vice president at Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection. “Usually, passengers can get their lost luggage back in time or receive reimbursement from the airline, but these resolutions often take days or weeks to fulfill.” It turns out there are ways to speed up the process of retrieving your lost luggage. And you can also ensure that you get the maximum compensation from an airline when your luggage goes missing. As we head into the holiday travel season, it’s the perfect time for a refresher. More lost luggage is probably inevitable, but it doesn’t have to be yours. Grilli’s lost luggage meant she and her husband had only one change of clothes on their Italian vacation, so they had to go shopping. (The maximum baggage liability for most international flights is approximately $1,780 under the Montreal Convention.) I asked Aer Lingus twice about Grilli’s luggage. The first time, it didn’t respond. The second time, it sent her another check to cover the rest of her losses. How much does an airline owe you? It depends. Transportation Department regulations stipulate that your airline may compensate you up to $3,800 for a domestic flight. But you have to show receipts for the lost items, which isn’t always possible. And expenses must be reasonable and verifiable, which allows airlines to deny reimbursements for pricey toiletries and designer clothes. Basically, the airline gets to decide how much to pay you for your loss, and there’s no easy way to appeal its decision. If you check a bag, make sure you avoid packing certain items. “Keep all valuables, electronics and prescription drugs with you in your carry-on,” advises Christina Tunnah, general manager for the Americas at travel insurance company World Nomads. The reason: Airlines exclude those items from liability when you file a claim. The best way to eliminate lost luggage is obvious: Avoid checking a bag. If you can downsize your luggage to a carry-on, you’ll never have this problem. But if you must check your bag, the fastest way to get it back is to track it yourself. That’s how Sumeet Sinha found his luggage when it went missing in Switzerland recently. “I’m a classic over-planner,” says Sinha, who publishes FinPins, an investment blog. “I also love gadgets.” He had purchased an AirTag and slipped it into his checked bag. When the bag went missing, he tracked it to a location in the airport, where it was waiting for him. “It had fallen behind a crevice at the back end of the luggage carousel,” he says. “When I got my bag, I kissed my AirTag.” Luggage manufacturers are openly encouraging their customers to track their bags. The system also asked for a temporary address in Norway. But I didn’t have one. I was a passenger on the MS Polarlys, a coastal supply ship operated by Hurtigruten. There were so many missing items that I had to file the claim by email instead of using the web form. My final newbie mistake, of course, was failing to place an AirTag in my bag. Why didn’t I? No excuse. Of all people, I should have known better. It didn’t take long for SAS to figure out that it had lost a travel columnist’s bag. A crew member on the Polarlys told me that a few minutes before our departure, a breathless baggage handler screeched to a halt at the dock and hurled my found duffel bag across the water to a deckhand. The UN health agency also cautioned that the contaminated medications may have been distributed outside of the West African country, with global exposure “possible.” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters that the four cold and cough syrups in question “have been potentially linked with acute kidney injuries and 66 deaths among children.” “The loss of these young lives is beyond heartbreaking for their families.” Tedros said that WHO was also “conducting further investigation with the company and regulatory authorities in India.” According to the medical product alert issued by WHO Wednesday, the four products are Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup. “To date, the stated manufacturer has not provided guarantees to WHO on the safety and quality of these products,” the alert said, adding that laboratory analysis of samples of the products “confirms that they contain unacceptable amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol as contaminants.” Those substances are toxic to humans and can be fatal, it said, adding that the toxic effect “can include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, inability to pass urine, headache, altered mental state and acute kidney injury which may lead to death.” The Gambia’s health ministry asked hospitals last month to stop using a syrup paracetamol, pending the outcome of an investigation, after at least 28 children died of kidney failure. WHO said that information received from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation indicated that the manufacturer had only supplied the contaminated medications to The Gambia. “However, the supply of these products through informal or unregulated markets to other countries in Africa, cannot be ruled out,” the UN agency said in an email. “In addition, the manufacturer may have used the same contaminated material in other products and distributed them locally or exported,” it warned. “Global exposure is therefore possible.” Tedros urged caution, calling on all countries to work to “detect and remove these products from circulation to prevent further harm to patients.” The Gambian health ministry’s advice on syrup paracetamol was issued on September 9, a month after investigators reported the death of at least 28 children aged five months to four years from acute renal failure. The investigation had been opened on July 19. No details were given as to when the children died.

It is uncertain how many more operators, or service providers, will be approved before launch. Sportsbooks had until today to file required holding forms with the Ohio Casino Control Commission, or OCCC, in order to be considered for launch on Jan. 1.  No mention was made of forthcoming sportsbook approvals by the OCCC before it acted on the five mobile sportsbook applications at its meeting today.  Without naming specific companies, OCCC Executive Director Matt Schuler took a few minutes at the meeting to scold applicants who he said are pressuring staff to act on incomplete applications. He advised applicants to take a different tack in the future. Schuler said he has advised staff to send applicants that demand to be on a future agenda for approval to his cell phone, “so I can teach them to not act like petulant children.”  “There’s an American proverb that says the squeaky wheel gets the oil,” he said. “(I say) for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”  What’s Ahead For Mobile and Retail in Ohio The five sportsbooks are partnered with professional sports franchises and physical locations (proprietors) that will operate mobile sportsbooks under licenses approved by the OCCC last month.  Here’s the list of the approved partnerships: Ohio Sports Betting Licensees & Partnerships Sportsbook Operator Partner PointsBet Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley (Youngstown)  Caesars Scioto Downs (racino in Columbus)  Betfred Cincinnati Bengals Bet365 Cleveland Guardians Baseball SuperBook FC Cincinnati  Caesars and SuperBook were also approved as retail sportsbooks in Ohio, bringing the total number of approved retail service providers to date to three, according to information from the OCCC.  The OCCC today also approved an additional 37 sports betting kiosks that will be located at bars, restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and other retailers statewide. That brings the total number of approved kiosk hosts statewide to 848.  However, the state has yet to approve any of the seven applicants who would provide and service the kiosks. Those companies, including Intralot and Gold Rush Amusements, were not on today’s OCCC agenda.  Missing required deadlines ahead of Jan. 1 will not prevent sportsbooks, operators, facilities, or suppliers from eventually being approved for sports betting licensing in Ohio, state gaming officials say. But it will keep them from launching on the universal start date.  The next deadline ahead of Jan. 1 is Nov. 2. By that day, all mobile and retail proprietors must have submitted their responsible gaming plans, geolocation plans, test lab reports for their sports betting servers and other equipment, house rules, and facility plans.  OCCC staff said they expect to review and approve that information quickly.

ETFs are financial instruments that trade on an exchange like stock, but track a specific market or asset, such as bitcoin (BTC). “Today, many experts believe we’re on the cusp of a major evolution in the core architecture of the internet,” Matt Hougan, Bitwise’s Chief Investment Officer, said in a statement. “With the Bitwise Web3 ETF, we’re excited to give investors the opportunity to capture one of the fastest-emerging themes in technology through a diverse mix of companies that we believe will lead the charge.”  “More than 85% of the index is comprised of ‘pure-play’ companies directly linked to Web3 themes and business activities,” the statement said. A factsheet presenting the product states that, as of October 4, the ETF’s top ten holdings included crypto exchange Coinbase, online gaming platform Roblox, data center specialist Equinix, game developer Unity Software, Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms, social media platform Twitter, online retail specialist Shopify, networking and cyber-security business Cloudflare, game developer Electronic Arts, and game publisher Take-Two Interactive. With more than $1.3 billion in assets under management, the San Francisco-based firm says it is one of the largest crypto asset managers in the market. BWEB trades on the NYSE Arca, a U.S. securities exchange on which exchange-traded products (ETPs) and equities are listed. The Bank of New York Mellon is the ETF’s custodian and administrator, according to data from Bitwise.

Analysis | US Is Defeating Putin In The War Of Coercion. That’s Dangerous. – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/analysis-us-is-defeating-putin-in-the-war-of-coercion-thats-dangerous-the-washington-post/ The US and Russia are waging the most intense contest in great-power coercion since the height of the Cold War. Russian President Vladimir Putin is using nuclear threats and other escalations in a bid to avoid humiliation in Ukraine. Washington is wielding its own array of pressures to force Putin to accept just that outcome. The good news is that, so far, both strategies have been fairly carefully calibrated. The bad news is that America and Russia may still be on a collision course, because only one of these strategies can succeed. Coercion is the art of shaping a rival’s behavior through intimidation or violence; it can occur in peacetime, war and everywhere in between. Today, Washington and Moscow are not fighting each other directly in Ukraine. But from the start of that conflict, they have been coercing each other aggressively. Putin’s version has been louder and more rhetorically menacing. Since February 2022, the Russian leader has talked ominously of nuclear warfare to dissuade the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from intervening directly on Ukraine’s behalf. Kremlin officials have warned that even supplying Kiev with certain weapons, such as long-range strike missiles that can reach deep into Russia, would cross Moscow’s red lines. Putin seeks to intimidate the West so he can wage the war he wants — a one-on-one duel in which Ukraine will succumb to Russia’s superior strength. It hasn’t worked, because of a quiet but ruthlessly effective US coercion campaign. America has forced Putin to remain remarkably passive as Ukraine and the Western coalition supporting it inflict previously unimaginable harm on his military and the state he controls. Repeated pledges by President Joe Biden’s administration to defend “every inch” of NATO territory have made it too risky for Putin to interfere with Ukrainian supply lines running through Romania and Poland. American military power, both conventional and nuclear, has deterred Moscow from lashing out as the West delivers the arms, information and money Ukraine needs to wreck Russian ground forces; imposes financial sanctions that are setting Putin’s economy back by a generation; and adds two new NATO members on Russia’s doorstep, Finland and Sweden. That is a triumph of coercion worth appreciating, even if it has brought matters to a dangerous stage. Putin is spiraling toward defeat in Ukraine; he may not survive that outcome politically. So he is mobilizing hundreds of thousands of troops while reminding his enemies just how much harm Russia can cause. By illegally annexing four Ukrainian regions, Putin is warning Washington as well as Kyiv that attacks on those territories are tantamount to attacks on Russia itself. And if Russia was behind recent attacks on undersea gas pipelines to Germany, as European Union officials maintain, Putin may be sending a message that Moscow can take the fight to NATO countries in less conventional ways. Back off, Putin is saying, before things get really serious. The Biden administration has chosen not to listen. It responded to the annexation gambit by announcing new deliveries of weapons to Ukraine, which every day is liberating more of the territory Putin now claims as his own. US officials are publicly warning Moscow that the use of nuclear weapons would prove ruinous for Russia; in private, they are reportedly making threats that are reportedly more specific but still leave something to the imagination. Every time Putin has tried to bully or bluster his way out of trouble, the US has simply coerced him right back. There are still moves left in this game. Putin has other non-nuclear cards to play, such as attacks on undersea fiber optic cables that connect the US and Europe. He could issue a more specific nuclear ultimatum or start moving his arsenal around in ways American intelligence agencies would detect. The US, for its part, has not yet provided Kiev with long-range missiles, attack aircraft, main battle tanks and other weapons. The present contest is profoundly dangerous, but has not yet gotten out of hand. It is, though, reminiscent of the Cold War’s scariest moments. In the Berlin crises of the late 1950s and early 1960s, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev promised that the rockets would fly if the US and its allies didn’t abandon West Berlin. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy warned that America might invade Cuba — with all the escalation that could follow — if Khrushchev didn’t withdraw missiles he had placed there. Nuclear threats and counterthreats were the language of great-power politics, as is again the case today. These crises were eventually resolved peacefully, because coercion was ultimately softened with compromise. In 1961, Khrushchev settled for turning East Berlin into a prison, through construction of the Berlin Wall, rather than running the Western powers out. The next year, Kennedy pledged not to invade Cuba if Khrushchev sent his rockets home. The current moment is frightening because it isn’t clear what the equivalent compromise would be. Putin remains committed to dismembering Ukraine, which Kyiv and Washington will not accept. Ukraine and the US have Putin on the road to a disastrous defeat that is anathema to him. Both sides are betting that fundamental compromise of their war aims is not necessary, because they can apply enough pressure to get the enemy to back down at the crucial moment. For HR managers attempting to manage and meet those requests, the process can be a confusing mess of paperwork and privacy concerns. But smart technology has the power to change that.  Disclo is a new tech-driven compliance platform that manages employee disclosures and helps organizations meet their needs with considered accommodations, all while maintaining the worker’s privacy and complying with HIPAA and ADA regulations. Since launching in July, the company already counts major players as clients, including Kraft Heinz. “There’s been no standard for managing disclosures and requests,” says Hannah Olson, CEO of Disclo. “We’re working to create that standardization for both employers and employees, because right now, most people don’t even know they’re supposed to talk to HR. After being diagnosed with Lyme disease in her early 20s, she made the difficult decision to walk away from a dream job, largely because her treatment plan conflicted with expectations that she work in an office. It led her to launch Chronically Capable in 2020, a job platform and career community that connects workers with chronic conditions to job opportunities and remote work. In 2021, as the pandemic lingered and workers struggled to create supportive workspaces in their homes, those community members started asking Olson and her team for even more help.  “We were receiving literally hundreds of messages a day about how to disclose a disability or health condition at work,” Olson says. “We see just a 3% disclosure rate at a national level, even though we know that 30% of all workers have disabilities and 60% have chronic illnesses.” After speaking with hundreds of HR leaders, Olson realized that the employer didn’t have much clarity on how the disclosure and accommodation process was supposed to work, either. In the interest of employee privacy, HIPAA and ADA regulations prohibit health information from being stored within tech-driven HR platforms like Workday or ADP; that left people leaders to create their own antiquated systems, relying on random spreadsheets and even post-it notes to track employee requests and accommodations.  “[Even] large enterprises were telling us this,” Olson says of these makeshift programs. In contrast, Disclo’s tech platform acts as a third-party, managing all disclosures and accommodation requests between an employer and employee, without actually stating the employee’s underlying health condition to the employer. Disclo can verify an employee’s conditions through their healthcare providers, help negotiate accommodations, and timestamp each interaction, to show that both parties are engaged in the process.  Read more: ADP exec: For employees with disabilities, technology could be making work harder Since 2020, there’s been a significant increase in both accommodation requests and claims of discrimination. That change in disclosure rates, Olson suggests, was a direct impact of the pandemic: As work shifted to the home, many employees received stipends to create comfortable workstations that supported their needs. As work now shifts again, in some cases back to the office, employees may feel more empowered to request accommodations that will support their health and success. “What’s resonating with employers is that Disclo is an intuitive tech platform. We’re not an adviser, we’re not telling you how to respond, we’re just helping manage the process and eliminate a lot of risk,” Olson says. “We can of course make recommendations — like flexible scheduling for anxiety or an investment in an ergonomic chair for chronic pain — and have a massive resource library, but we’re just here to help employers know how to handle these situations.”  Disclo has already proved vital for employers who, in the wake of Roe v. Wade’s reversal, offered to provide travel stipends to employees who needed to travel out of state to receive reproductive care. “We received a lot of inbound interest, and were able to help organizations verify pregnancies and offer those reimbursements without actually having to know who is seeking an abortion,” Olson says.  Read more: How this CEO is helping employers hire workers with chronic illness Simplifying the process for both employers and employees, Olson hopes, will lead to more workers asking for the support they need — which has positive implications for businesses. According to the Harvard Business Review, employees who disclose their disability or condition at work are 30% more engaged than those who don’t.  “We want to be a guide, like the TurboTax of disclosure and compliance,” Olson says. “Taxes are really freaking hard to manage, but TurboTax takes it one step at a time. We’ve built Disclo with that in mind, making the process easier for employers and employees alike.”
