Motorola is a brand name that comes with cool style, updated features, and an awesome camera. Overall if you can afford a bit costly phone but have a long-lasting and stylish phone Motorola can be your best pick. Since the beginning, it has tried to come up with unique features that would help its buyers to brag about something.
Once again it has come up with something super cool and it is about Moto S30 Pro. It was launched on 11th August 2022. If we talk about its screen it comes with a 6.55-inch touchscreen display (FHD+) with a 144 Hz display. A most peculiar feature of this phone is its RAM of 12GB. When most brands find it hard to provide even up to 8GB RAM at an affordable price Motorola is trying its best.
The Moto S30 Pro runs Android 12 and is powered by a 4,270mAh non-removable battery. The rear part houses a triple camera setup in which a 50-megapixel primary camera; a 13-megapixel camera, and a 2-megapixel camera. The front camera is 32 megapixels. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Crypto News And Price Data – CoinDesk https://collincountynewsonline.com/bitcoin-ethereum-crypto-news-and-price-data-coindesk-6/
Released this week, the Best Universities for Blockchain 2022 by CoinDesk serves as a global resource for those looking to study this important technology. Four primary categories were investigated to determine the best universities for blockchain across the globe: (1) an institution’s strength in research and academic contributions to advancing the field; (2) the existing blockchain offerings on campus, whether in the form of classes, educational centers, clubs, etc.; (3) employment and industry outcomes; and (4) overall academic reputation. Every university received an individual score in each category. These scores were then normalized and added together to determine the overall score for the university and its rank.
The 50 schools we ranked came from just four regions: Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia and the Pacific Islands. Asia and the Pacific Islands dominated the list with 20 schools. A closer examination of the schools by region showed clear strengths among each of the four metrics.
The Best Universities for Blockchain in Asia and the Pacific Islands
Universities in Asia and the Pacific Islands had the highest average overall score of 63.7, as well as the highest average research output score for regions with more than one school on the list. Asia and the Pacific Islands cemented its place as the top region for blockchain education with the sheer volume of research it is producing in the blockchain space. Sixty percent of the top 10 research producers are located in Asia and the Pacific Islands.
The Best Universities for Blockchain in North America
North America has 16 universities in our final 50 and they also achieved the second-highest average overall score of 57. North American schools scored the highest in campus blockchain offerings. While North American schools may be lagging behind their Asian and Pacific Island counterparts in blockchain research production, they tended to offer a greater variety of blockchain classes, have more research centers on campus and more student clubs dedicated to blockchain technology – all of which are counted in the campus blockchain offerings score. Graduates from North American universities also tended to have improved employment outcomes, yet another metric we measured, compared to other regions.
The Best Universities for Blockchain in Europe
Although Europe did not come out on top in any category by region that was investigated, the 13 European schools that made our final ranking scored second-highest in reputation and employment outcomes. Survey respondents viewed European universities as more prestigious than their Asian, Pacific Island or Middle Eastern counterparts.
The Best Universities for Blockchain in the Middle East
This year only one university in the Middle East made the Top Universities for Blockchain in 2022. King Saud University stood out from all but one U.S. school – Cornell University – for its number of blockchain research published papers and citations. The university has been investigating how blockchain technology can improve supply chains and energy grids.

Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival Draws Global Audience To US WIBW
Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival Draws Global Audience To US – WIBW https://collincountynewsonline.com/annual-hot-air-balloon-festival-draws-global-audience-to-us-wibw/
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Hundreds of hot air balloons lifted off Saturday morning, marking the start of an annual fiesta that has drawn pilots and spectators from across the globe to New Mexico’s high desert for 50 years now.
As one of the most photographed events in the world, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta has become an economic driver for the state’s largest city and a rare — and colorful — opportunity for enthusiasts to be within arm’s reach as the giant balloons are unpacked and inflated.
Three of the original pilots who participated in the first fiesta in 1972 and the family members of others are among this year’s attendees. That year, 13 balloons launched from an open lot near a shopping center on what was then the edge of Albuquerque. It has since grown into a multimillion-dollar production.
Pilot Gene Dennis, 78, remembers the snow storm that almost caused him to miss that first fiesta. He had to rearrange his flight plans from Michigan so he could make it to Albuquerque in time.
The weather was perfect when he got to New Mexico, said Dennis, who flew under the alias “Captain Phairweather.” He was quoted at the time as saying he had brought good weather with him.
He was on the hook again, as pilots hope predictions for the rest of opening weekend are fair.
“Ballooning is infectious,” Dennis said, describing being aloft like drifting in a dream, quietly observing the countryside below.

This year will mark Roman Müller’s first time flying in the fiesta. He’s piloting a special-shaped balloon that was modeled after a chalet at the top of a famous Swiss bobsled run. One of his goals will be flying over the Rio Grande and getting low enough to dip the gondola into the river.
“This is my plan,” he said, with a wide smile while acknowledging that it’s not always easy to fly a balloon.
One thing that helps, he said, is the phenomenon known as the Albuquerque box — when the wind blows in opposite directions at different elevations, allowing skillful pilots to bring a balloon back to near the point of takeoff.
Dennis said it took a few years of holding the fiesta to realize the predictability of the wind patterns allowed for balloons to remain close to the launch field, giving spectators quite a show.
Tens of thousands of people packed the field Saturday, wide-eyed with necks craned as they tried to soak in the spectacle.
Denise Wiederkehr McDonald was a passenger in her father’s balloon during the first fiesta. She made the trip from Colorado to participate in a re-enactment of that 1972 flight on Friday. Her father, Matt Wiederkehr, was one of the first 10 hot air balloon pilots in the U.S. and held numerous world records for distance and duration and built a successful advertising business with his fleet of balloons.
Wiederkehr McDonald, who went on to set her own ballooning records before becoming a commercial airline pilot, was wearing one of her father’s faded ballooning jackets and held a cardboard cutout of him as the balloon she was riding in lifted off.
She recalled a childhood full of experiences centered on ballooning.
“I remember the first time being down in the balloons with them all standing up and inflating and not being able to see the sky because it was all colored fabric. And then the other thing was the first balloon glow at night. Oh, my gosh,” she said. “There were a lot of firsts that I took for granted back then but really look back and appreciate so much now.”
The fiesta has grown to include a cadre of European ballooning professionals. More than 20 countries are represented this year, including Switzerland, Australia, Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Taiwan and Ukraine.
It also serves as the launching venue for the America’s Challenge Gas Balloon Race, one of the world’s premier distance races for gas balloons.

3 Halftime Observations: Penalties Cost Wisconsin Football Against Illinois Longview News-Journal
3 Halftime Observations: Penalties Cost Wisconsin Football Against Illinois – Longview News-Journal https://collincountynewsonline.com/3-halftime-observations-penalties-cost-wisconsin-football-against-illinois-longview-news-journal/
The University of Wisconsin football team is bloodying its own nose in its slugfest against Big Ten West rival Illinois.
Illinois leads 14-10 at halftime Saturday after turning two turnovers into touchdowns and bottling up the Badgers’ run game to the tune of 14 yards on 14 carries.
Penalties on both sides of the ball and a pair of interceptions from quarterback Graham Mertz have resulted in choppy flow to the game and the Badgers offense being out of sync since its first drive.
UW GAMEDAY CENTRAL: Follow Illinois-Wisconsin with our BadgerExtra live blog
Here are three observations from the first half.
Aggressive start
The Badgers clearly were looking to start fast against the Illini after a disastrous opening few minutes last week. UW took the ball after winning the coin toss and got a jump start from kick returner Isaac Guerendo, who returned the opening kickoff to about midfield. UW scored seven plays later on a 21-yard pass to Guerendo.
Polzin: Chryst, Bielema own nearly identical records at Wisconsin. But context is crucial
That aggressiveness may have burned the Badgers later in the quarter when Mertz’s deep pass to Keontez Lewis was tipped into the hands of safety Kendall Smith. That pick turned into a touchdown for Illinois.
Illini overloading the front
UW had trouble handling Illinois’ mix of blitzes in the first half. The Illini have been using overhang players — defenders lined up in two-point outside of the tackles — and effectively blending their rushes and drops into coverage.
Defensive backs also have come to the outside of the overhang players to put more defenders than UW has blockers to one side.
Missing: Sacks. Wisconsin’s defense is struggling to take down the opposing QB
The Illini are overloading the Badgers’ front by rushing the overhang players and their inside linebackers on third-and-longs, so look for the Badgers to try to exploit the aggressiveness with a screen or a short pass over the middle designed to get yards after the catch.
Penalties keeping alive Illini drives
UW twice was a snap away from making a red-zone stand and keeping the Illini off the scoreboard, but both times it committed penalties that gave up first downs inside the 5.
Cornerback Jay Shaw was flagged for defensive pass interference in the end zone on the first fourth-down play, a call made despite both the defensive back and receiver keeping hands on each other throughout the play. Illini quarterback Tommy DeVito scored on a sneak the next play to tie the game in the first quarter.
Open Jim at halftime:
Defensive end Isaiah Mullens jumped early on a fourth-and-inches play that gave Illinois a first down inside the 5. Cornerback Justin Clark was called for pass interference later on the same series, which ended with DeVito’s second QB sneak touchdown.
UW must be well aware it is in for a fight against the Illini, so it needs to stop giving away first downs and make Illinois earn them.
Injury update
Tight end Clay Cundiff, who broke his left leg last week at Ohio State, was listed as out for the season. Cundiff led the Badgers’ tight ends with nine catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns.
Hayden Rucci injury leaves Wisconsin short at tight end
Safety Hunter Wohler, who’s been out with a left leg injury since the opener, wasn’t wearing a walking boot or using crutches during pregame.
Ruled out before the game
CB Al Ashford (left leg)
K Vito Calvaruso (right leg)
TE Cam Large (right leg)
OL Riley Mahlman (left leg)
CB Alexander Smith (right leg)
K Jack Van Dyke (right leg)
OLB Aaron Witt (right leg)
S Hunter Wohler (left leg)
QB Chase Wolf (right leg)

Finding budget accommodations
Budget Slow Travel
By Patrick Robertson
Half of your day is spent inside your accommodation. It is the most important part of a trip.
Vacation rental prices have gone sky high with HGTV shows promoting vacation rental prices of $500 and $600 a night, Airbnb hosts asking $200 to $1,500 a night and VRBO asking $500 to $5,000 a night or more. Four-star hotels are $350 a night. Three-star hotels are $200 a night. At those prices a two-week vacation rental is going to cost between $5000 to $10,,000. Way out of the price range for a budget traveller.
Travellers go places for a variety of reasons. In November, I like to leave the mountains as it is a month of wind, rain, sleet, snow, storms and grey skies. This November is the first since the pandemic started in 2020. In my mind it is still a time of staying away from large groups and breathing the shared air of others. A time of caution which makes it more difficult to plan our travel.
In addition to expensive accommodations, plane travel is more expensive than before the pandemic. A flight to Mexico is $1,200 return. So when flights of under $300 came up for Maui, Hawaii for flights in November, I took notice. Maui is not my favourite island but it is Hawaii and we love Hawaii.
Cheap flights but Hawaii has become uber expensive during the pandemic. Nightly accommodations skyrocketed from $150-300 a night to $650-800 a night for the same place. The demand has outstripped the supply.
Now that I had a deal to work with, I thought I would check out the timeshare resellers to look at the availability and prices of a week in Maui and maybe I could find something reasonable. I was able to find three seven-day timeshare rentals back-to-back in three different resorts for $1,500 per week. Not bad; $1,500 a week is our new budget price for a week rental, up from $750 a week 10 years ago.
Next, I thought I would check Craigslist for Hawaii vacation rentals. There were a number for various times of the year. I contacted two ads. They looked legitimate. Both replied the same day and said that they had availability at reasonable prices of $150 USD a night or $200 CDN.
The trouble with Craigslist is that there are many scammers and one has to be very careful. In this case, one of the landlords supplied the complex number to verify that he owned the condo. I called and he owned the property and rents it out with a state license.
The other landlord gave his business number which I ran through Hawaii State government to verify that he was a legitimate property manager. There was a company registered under that name, but the website was amateurish. A Google search brought up a different phone number than what he gave me. I called both numbers but they were not working. It did not feel right so I bailed on that contact.
You should always ask if they take credit cards. A legitimate property management company will take credit cards. Never wire money. If the advertiser is asking you to wire money or use some unfamiliar money platform, walk away from the deal. It is trouble with a capital, T.
The next place to check for rental accommodation is Facebook. There are a number of groups for owners and renters for the various islands. You can post a request and someone will contact you with the availability and rates. These are often new people to the rental market or ones that want to maximize their rent. There are no bargains here. If you find one, grab it.
After all the searching, I decided it was not worth going to Maui for a month. Cheap flights but the accommodation is too high for a budget traveller and the private transportation costs on the island are the highest they have ever been.
I ended up deciding to go to the Okanagan and visit my family instead. I am going to try to find time to bike The Okanagan Rail Trail. If I do, I will write about it in my column.
Those of you who are still dreaming about Hawaii, prices to Kauai over the next few months have just gone down to about $600 return. Kauai is my favourite Hawaiian island. Check out my Kauai destination guide on my blog.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A new regulation that came into force in Poland Saturday requiring pregnancy information to be uploaded to the national digital system has raised concerns among women’s organizations that it could be another means for the conservative government to control women’s lives.
Women’s groups suggest the Health Ministry regulation would enable authorities to monitor pregnancies as another means of control in the country with a very strict anti-abortion law.

The ministry had denied this, saying the regulation stems from European Union directives and will help doctors treat patients by providing them with vital information quickly.
“In today’s Poland every change relating to reproduction, and especially when it calls for collecting of sensitive personal information, is met with suspicion of bad intentions,” says Krystyna Kacpura, head of the FEDERA, Foundation for Women and Family Planning.
FEDERA has called on women to remain calm but stay vigilant about the regulation that’s popularly referred to as “pregnancy register.”
Under Poland’s right-wing government, abortion is allowed in only if the pregnancy threatens the woman’s health or results from crime like rape or incest. Women are not penalized for abortions, only those performing or assisting in them.
A provision allowing abortion of fetuses with genetic defects was pronounced unconstitutional by a top court, the Constitutional Tribunal, whose rulings often fall in line with the ruling party’s views.

Notre Dame’s Marist Liufau (8) stops North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye (10) after a 15-yard again in the first quarter on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. Robert Willett rwillett@newsobserver.com
North Carolina football fans planning on watching Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech on Dish Network or Sling TV were unexpectedly hit with news that those two services no longer carry the ESPN family of networks.
The contract expired Friday night and, with no new deal, that means viewers will have to seek alternatives to see the Tar Heels and Hokies’ 3:30 p.m. kickoff on ACC Network.
Duke’s game against Virginia at 7:30 p.m., carried by Bally’s Sports South, will also be blacked out. But subscriptions to the new Bally Sports+ streaming service are available for $19.99 a month and the package includes a free seven-day trial.
Wake Forest and Florida State at 3:30 and N.C. State’s showdown at Clemson at 7:30 p.m. are both games on ABC and will not be impacted. However, if both sides can’t reach a new agreement quickly, future broadcasts — including the start of the college basketball season next month — will be in jeopardy.
ESPN and its umbrella, which includes ESPN2, ESPNU, ACC Network and SEC Network, is owned by the Walt Disney Company. Disney owns ABC too, but the expired contract only effects Disney and ESPN channels.
The best way to watch a game broadcast by ESPN if you have Dish or Sling is to catch the action on streaming services like Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV.

1. Dial *#*#4636#*#* on your phone’s dial pad. You don’t have to press the green dial button to access it, it will open up as soon as you type in the code.
2. The Testing interface shall open up on your device. If you’re lucky, you will find the option for Battery Information showing the status of your phone’s battery health.

Avoid extreme levels like charging to 100% or discharging all the way to 0%.
Try to keep the battery in the 40-80% zone. Frequent, small top-ups are better than full recharges.
Avoid fast charging if you’re not in a hurry.
Keep the phone in a cool ambiance, especially while charging. Please don’t use it while plugged in.
Use these battery-saving tips whenever possible. Less drainage = fewer recharges.
Use the original charger and cable or at least a certified third-party charger with the same specification.
While phones do stop charging at 100%, you should still avoid overnight charging.
If you’re storing the phone for long-term, charge the battery to 50% instead of 100%

Venezuela Releases 7 Jailed Americans; U.S. Frees 2 Prisoners – POLITICO https://collincountynewsonline.com/venezuela-releases-7-jailed-americans-u-s-frees-2-prisoners-politico/
It amounts to a rare gesture of goodwill by Maduro as the socialist leader looks to rebuild relations with the U.S. after vanquishing most of his domestic opponents. The deal follows months of back channel diplomacy by Washington’s top hostage negotiator and other U.S. officials — secretive talks with a major oil producer that took on greater urgency after sanctions on Russia put pressure on global energy prices.
Those freed include five employees of Houston-based Citgo — Tomeu Vadell, Jose Luis Zambrano, Alirio Zambrano, Jorge Toledo and Jose Pereira — who were lured to Venezuela right before Thanksgiving in 2017 to attend a meeting at the headquarters of the company’s parent, state-run-oil giant PDVSA. Once there, they were hauled away by masked security agents who busted into a Caracas conference room.
Also released was Matthew Heath, a former U.S. Marine corporal from Tennessee who was arrested in 2020 at a roadblock in Venezuela on what the State Department has called “specious” weapons charges, and Florida man, Osman Khan, who was arrested in January.
The United States freed Franqui Flores and his cousin Efrain Campo nephews of “First Combatant” Cilia Flores, as Maduro has called his wife. The men were arrested in Haiti in a Drug Enforcement Administration sting in 2015 and immediately taken to New York to face trial. They were convicted the following year in a highly charged case that cast a hard look at U.S. accusations of drug trafficking at the highest levels of Maduro’s administration.
Both men were granted clemency by President Joe Biden before the release.
The Biden administration has been under pressure to do more to bring home the roughly 60 Americans it believes are held hostage abroad or wrongfully detained by hostile foreign governments. While much of the focus is on Russia, where the U.S. has so far tried unsuccessfully to secure the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner and another American, Paul Whelan, Venezuela has been holding the largest contingent of Americans suspected of being used as bargaining chips.
At least four other Americans remain detained in Venezuela, including two former Green Berets involved in a slapdash attempt to oust Maduro in 2019, and two other men who, like Khan, were detained for allegedly entering the country illegally from neighboring Colombia.
The Biden administration did not release another prisoner long sought by Maduro: Alex Saab, an insider businessman who Venezuela considers a diplomat and U.S. prosecutors a corrupt regime enabler. Saab fought extradition from Cape Verde, where he was arrested last year during a stopover en route to Iran, and is now awaiting trial in Miami federal court on charges of siphoning off millions in state contracts.
The oil executives were convicted of embezzlement last year in a trial marred by delays and irregularities. They were sentenced to between eight years and 13 years in prison for a never-executed proposal to refinance billions in the oil company’s bonds. Maduro at the time accused them of “treason,” and Venezuela’s supreme court upheld their long sentences earlier this year. The men have all pleaded not guilty and the State Department has regarded them — and the two other Americans freed on Saturday — as wrongfully detained.

DALLAS (KDAF) — Ricky Bobby once said, “If you ain’t first you’re last.” While that’s true in racing and other such sports, being one of the best places to live in America is quite the win for any city with such a delegation.
North Texas wins yet again after Fortune Well released its list of the 25 best places to live for families in the U.S. It might not be the most well-known city in the region, but you’ll know it now.
“In an analysis of nearly 2,000 cities and towns across the U.S., Fortune found that communities in the Midwest, West, and mid-Atlantic were more likely to offer better access to quality hospitals and doctors, solid public schools, and support for older residents, than in the Southeast and at more affordable rates than in major metros like New York and San Francisco,” the report says.
The city of Wylie took the No. 2 spot on Fortune’s rankings with a median home sale price of $399,838 and a median household income of $96,845, falling short of the top spot to Ann Arbor, Michigan:
Ann Arbor, Michigan
Wylie, Texas
Olathe, Kansas
Mason, Ohio
Morrisville, North Carolina
Clearfield, Utah
Gaithersburg, Maryland
Leesburg, Virginia
West Chicago, Illinois
Novi, Michigan
Wylie is a city in the northeast portion of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, that’s a part of Collin County. The report says, “Don’t let Wylie’s picturesque, historic downtown fool you. This Dallas suburb is a fast-growing, modern community that doesn’t skimp on the amenities.” Be sure to read more about Wylie from this report here.
If that wasn’t enough for Texas, a city near Houston was ranked among the top 20; Sugar Land took the No. 17 spot with a median home sale price of $399,250 and a median household income of $121,665.
A press release states, “Nearly half of Americans who are raising children under the age of 18 are also shouldering the responsibility of regularly caring for their aging parents in some capacity, according to a survey of some 1,200 respondents conducted by the Harris Poll on behalf of Fortune in August.”

Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Credit Card Review: Solid Sign-Up Bonus With Limited Perks – The Points Guy https://collincountynewsonline.com/marriott-bonvoy-bountiful-credit-card-review-solid-sign-up-bonus-with-limited-perks-the-points-guy/
Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card overview
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card is one of two brand-new Marriott cards that launched in September 2022. While it offers a lucrative sign-up bonus, the overall benefits fall short of what you’d might expect from a card that carries a $250 annual fee. Card rating*:
* Card rating is based on the opinion of TPG’s editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.
Marriott now has six cobranded cards available to new cardholders, with annual fees on those ranging from $0 to $650 per year. The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card from Chase launched on Sept. 22, 2022 along with its nearly-identical sibling, the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy American Express Card. The Bountiful card sits in the middle of the range of annual fees on Marriott credit cards, with an annual fee of $250.

The card currently has a welcome offer of 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points after you use your new card to make $4,000 in eligible purchases within the first three months from account opening. Beyond that, cardholders enjoy complimentary Marriott Gold status along with higher earning rates for hotel purchases and in some common spending categories.
That said, the card is missing a feature that you may consider standard for a hotel credit card: a complimentary free night when you renew your card. This is often included with introductory cards that have annual fees less than $100, so does the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card offer enough value to offset that gap?
Here’s a full review of the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card to help you decide if it’s a fit for your wallet.
The information for the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Who is this card for?
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card could be a good option for those looking for automatic Marriott Bonvoy status but who aren’t willing to pay higher annual fees for premium or luxury credit cards that offer higher status levels. It may also be a good choice for people who want the consumer protections it offers when shopping or traveling — though these aren’t as robust as some higher-end cards.
THE POINTS GUY
Holders of the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful enjoy automatic Gold Elite status for as long as the card remains open, without needing to reach the normal qualification threshold (25 nights per year). Additionally, when you swipe the card, you may be eligible for reimbursement if your trip is delayed or an item you purchased is damaged, and the annual fee that unlocks these protections is lower than other premium cards.
That said, if you’re looking to make the most of your points and miles strategy, you may have difficulty justifying the card — especially because of the lack of perks.

Remember that Chase has application restrictions that you should be aware of if you decide to apply. While this is a new card and we don’t have application data to confirm it, it’s a near certainty that this card will be subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule. If you’ve opened five or more credit cards in the past 24 months, and these can be seen on your credit report, then you will likely be denied when applying for this or any other credit card from Chase.
If you’re interested in the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card but are ineligible due to 5/24, you may want to consider its nearly-identical sibling, the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Bevy card.
Welcome offer: $1,050 in value
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card has a current offer of 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points for applicants who use the new card to make $4,000 in eligible purchases within the first three months from account opening. Based on TPG’s valuation of Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.84 cents each, the 125,000 points are worth $1,050.
Remember that there are restrictions on new member credit card bonuses if you’ve had similar Marriott credit card products from American Express or Chase, or previous Starwood Preferred Guest cards from American Express. Be sure to carefully review the card’s offer details page to ensure you’re eligible.

Main benefits and perks
The Bonvoy Bountiful card offers some perks that could make it worthwhile for some travelers:
Marriott Gold Elite status: Primary cardholders (authorized users aren’t included) receive automatic Marriott Gold status as long as the account is open. TPG values Marriott’s Gold status at $800 per year. This is Marriott Bonvoy’s mid-tier level, and the most valuable benefits of Gold status are upgrades to enhanced rooms (when available) and a 25% points bonus on hotel spending. While many hotel credit cards offer a way to spend your way toward higher status levels, that’s noticeably absent on the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card.
Annual free night award via spending: When you spend at least $15,000 on eligible purchases during your cardmember year (not calendar year), you’ll earn a free night certificate that can cover a one-night stay costing up to 50,000 points. This is more valuable than those offered on lower-tier Marriott cards (which are capped at 35,000 points). However, those are available without a spending requirement, whereas the Bountiful requires $15,000 in spending per year. That said, there are some terrific uses of the 50,000-point free night certificate — though bear in mind that Marriott’s dynamic pricing may affect these properties, especially on high-demand dates.
Elite night credits: When you hold the Bountiful card, you’ll automatically receive 15 elite qualifying night credits per year. This benefit can be stacked with the nights you earn with a Marriott small-business card, which will put you 60% of the way to Platinum Elite status. However, this only applies to business cards. If you have another personal Marriott card from either Chase or American Express, you’re limited to just 15 nights.
Bonus points on each stay: Cardholders receive 1,000 bonus points on each eligible stay at hotels and resorts participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program. This is equivalent to an extra $8.40 worth of points based on TPG’s valuations.
Travel protections: This card offers trip delay insurance for trips delayed by more than 12 hours due to a covered reason when you pay for at least part of your trip with the Bountiful card (which includes paying the taxes and fees on your flight award redemption). You’ll also enjoy baggage delay protection — which reimburses up to $100 per day for essentials while waiting for your luggage — and lost luggage reimbursement of up to $3,000 per covered person per covered trip. You’ll also receive secondary car rental loss and damage insurance, roadside dispatch services (pay per use), travel accident insurance and travel emergency assistance services, which can connect you to emergency service providers during a time of need. Note that there may be charges for these services when provided by third parties.
Shopping protections: Purchases made with the card can get 120 days of purchase protection (up to $500 per claim and up to $50,000 per account) for theft, damage or loss of new items and up to one year of extended warranty coverage on warranties of three years or less on covered purchases worldwide (up to $10,000 per claim and up to $50,000 per account).
Related: Your guide to Chase’s trip insurance coverage
All that said, it’s worth mentioning what’s absent in the perks and benefits. In short, the card is missing a variety of things that are frequently found on cards with the same (or even lower) annual fees. This includes:
A free night award given automatically on the card’s account anniversary each year.
Reimbursement for the application fee for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.
Statement credits for ancillary fees or other purchases.
Access to Priority Pass lounges.
While unlimited Priority Pass access is usually reserved for cards with higher fees — like the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express® Card and Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card — even the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card allows cardholders to enter a participating lounge 10 times per year for a lower annual fee ($0 introductory fee the first year, then $95; see rates and fees). Note that enrollment is required in advance is required for some of these benefits.
Le Meridien Bora Bora. MARRIOTT
How to earn points
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card has similar earning rates to other Marriott credit cards like the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card and Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card. However, there are some notable differences.
For starters, Bountiful cardholders can earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar on purchases at hotels participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program, which matches most other cobranded cards. Then, you’ll earn 4 points per dollar at restaurants worldwide and U.S. supermarkets (on the first $15,000 per year in combined purchases, then 1 point per dollar after reaching this limit). All other purchases will earn 2 points per dollar.
Related: Which credit card should you use for Marriott stays?
As noted previously, TPG’s valuations peg Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.84 cents apiece. This translates into a 5.04% return at Marriott properties, a 3.36% return for the first $15,000 spent at restaurants and supermarkets and a 1.68% return for all other purchases.
This is decent for loyal Marriott travelers who want to boost their balances of Bonvoy points, but it’s worth noting that other cards can provide a better option for earning rewards on non-bonus spending categorie...

Cloudflare Democratizes Spoof-Proof Security; Makes Hardware Security Keys More Accessible Than Ever for Millions of Customers Because it’s Good for the Internet
Cloudflare has introduced a new service to make physical security keys the most economical and accessible method for safeguarding their employees and businesses.
As of 29th September, hardware security keys are an additional layer of protection and a method of MFA that has been proven to be phishing resistant.
Customers will be able to purchase Yubico’s security keys, the most secure hardware security keys and most resistant phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA), at an exclusive “good for the internet” price.
A Zero Trust security model means that no one is trusted, by default, regardless if they’re inside or outside of a corporate network. This means verification is required from everyone trying to gain access to resources on that organization’s network, including location, familiar devices, and passwords.
As a Cloudflare customer, you can now purchase Yubico’s Security Key Series at a much lower price—as little as $10—through your Cloudflare dashboard.
Larger corporations using Cloudflare and purchasing a multi-year YubiEnterprise Subscription for YubiKeys will receive a 50% discount on their first year of a 3+ year subscription.
Through this partnership, organisations of all sizes will be able to acquire, activate, and verify using security keys with ease and convenience.
Cloudflare prevented a breach from a SMS phishing attack that targeted more than 130 companies in July by employing Cloudflare Zero Trust paired with YubiKeys. While physical security keys help to prevent attacks, they work in conjunction with DNS filtering, browser isolation, cloud email security, and other security measures to prevent attacks, an assailant would need to compromise every signal.
Dane Knecht, SVP, Emerging Technology and Incubation at Cloudflare says we are always looking for ways to provide the highest possible security to its customers and the Internet at large.
“With phishing attacks becoming more prevalent, we want to help democratize additional security measures to further enhance the Cloudflare Zero Trust experience.”
“We experienced this firsthand and wanted to make using hardware security keys simple for any organisation,” says Knecht
According to Knecht working with Yubico is just another way Cloudflare is trying to make it as seamless as possible to arm our customers with the best Zero Trust security strategy.
“Being a Cloudflare Zero Trust customer introduces an easy, fast and affordable way to implement security keys in your organization, and all part of our greater mission to help build a better Internet.” he said
With the adoption of Yubico, Cloudflare is ensuring physical security keys are:
Economical: Rolling out security keys can be difficult for companies with smaller security teams, or those that have just begun using two-factor authentication.
By offering security keys at the most affordable rate, this offer makes the keys less of a financial burden on small companies.
Simple to use: Setting up security keys is easy for participating Cloudflare customers. For Administrators, Cloudflare Zero Trust makes it easy to use your security keys with any Identity Provider (IdP) and integrates both the keys and IdP into a comprehensive Zero Trust solution.
For employees, a simple guided prompt makes the action of touching a security key for authentication seamless. Security keys work across all devices, operating systems, and areas within an organization.
Accessible: Now Cloudflare customers can order Security Key Series, supporting FIDO-based authentication, directly through their dashboard.
The YubiKey 5 Series, available through YubiEnterprise Subscription, supports multiple authentication protocols, from legacy applications to modern FIDO-based apps and services. The exclusive “good for the Internet” pricing, helps to introduce the value and functionality of hardware keys to Cloudflare customers.
Stina Ehrenvard, CEO and co-founder, Yubico says Yubico pioneered the modern security key, the YubiKey, and continues to set the industry standard, protecting enterprise customers and consumers from security threats.
“Today’s attacks require modern MFA. Working with Cloudflare will help get more Security Keys and YubiKeys into the hands of their customers, to deliver on the combination of phishing-resistant MFA and provide peace of mind.” says Ehrenvard
The promotion will be available to Cloudflare customers until December 31, 2022.

The voting results set off a procedural review on Saturday, following a challenge by Russia. Poppy Khoza, the assembly’s president and South Africa’s director general of civil aviation, called the circumstance “unprecedented.”
Russia closed its airspace to airlines from 36 countries, including all 27 members of the European Union, in response to Ukraine-related sanctions targeting its aviation sector following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
The West says Russia has illegally confiscated hundreds of foreign jets, a charge Moscow denies.

Canada and Europe said before the vote they would oppose Russia’s re-election to the council.
Omar Alghabra, Canada’s transport minister, told Reuters earlier this week “it’s important that Russia is held accountable.”
The 193-nation ICAO assembly, held every three years, is the first since the COVID-19 pandemic and Ukraine war.
Earlier this week, a representative of the Russian Federation asked the assembly to condemn public statements and actions by a group of countries, “including the introduction of bans on the use of sovereign airspace.” (Reporting By Allison Lampert in Montreal; Editing by Daniel Wallis and Diane Craft)

The 51st battle for the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy begins Saturday with Air Force hosting Navy. The first of the three-game annual series features the two most successful programs in the annual battle for service academy supremacy. Air Force (20) and Navy (16) have combined for 36 of the 45 outright wins in the series.
Last season’s competition resulted in Army West Point retaining the crown after all three teams went 1-1 in Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy games. It was Navy’s upset win against Army that denied the Black Knights the chance for another outright victory, and the Midshipmen need to bring that same upset approach to a rivalry game facing Air Force as a two-touchdown underdog. Air Force has also won three of the last four meetings with Navy, though the head-to-head of coaches (Navy’s Ken Niumatalolo and Air Force’s Troy Calhoun) is currently split 7-7. The Falcons lead the nation in rushing offense averaging 412.3 yards per game, but Navy boasts one of the country’s best rushing defenses.
Watch Air Force vs. Navy live at noon ET on CBS, CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports App. Keep it locked here for scores, analysis and highlights as the battle for the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy gets underway.

CEO Tim Cook Says Apple Avoids The Word ‘metaverse’ Because The Average Person Doesn’t Know What It Means — A Stark Contrast To Rival Facebook – Yahoo News https://collincountynewsonline.com/ceo-tim-cook-says-apple-avoids-the-word-metaverse-because-the-average-person-doesnt-know-what-it-means-a-stark-contrast-to-rival-facebook-yahoo-news/

Apple CEO Tim Cook discussed AR, VR, and more in a new interview with Dutch media outlet Bright.
He said Apple avoids using the term “metaverse” because the average person doesn’t know what it is.
The tech giant’s approach is a stark contrast to Mark Zuckerberg’s obsession with the metaverse.
Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed in an exclusive interview with Dutch media outlet Bright that the tech giant’s hesitancy toward joining the metaverse hype is intentional.
“I always think it’s important that people understand what something is. And I’m really not sure the average person can tell you what the metaverse is,” Cook told the outlet.
“Metaverse” is a term derived from science-fiction and refers to a hypothetical version of a three-dimensional internet accessed via immersive technologies rather than 2D screens.
The word “metaverse” was only mentioned once on Apple earnings calls so far this year, compared to 36 mentions on Meta earnings calls. Despite the buzz word’s explosive usage across the industry, executives are divided on whether the metaverse represents a real product — like virtual reality — or if it’s just a concept for a virtual world that may never actually exist.
However, Mark Zuckerberg told staff in July that Meta is in “deep, philosophical competition” with Apple to build the metaverse.
Following Facebook’s name change and announcement last fall that it would invest $10 billion into building the so-called metaverse, the iPhone maker stood out from the wider tech industry in its apparent refusal to join Mark Zuckerberg’s latest obsession.
Instead, Apple has focused its emerging tech investment specifically on Augmented Reality.
When an analyst asked Cook this January about Apple’s role in the metaverse space, he responded that Apple is “always exploring new and emerging technologies” and pointed to the company’s 14,000 AR kit apps in the App Store.
“I think AR is a profound technology that will affect everything,” Cook told Bright in the interview published Friday, adding that virtual reality is not a way to “live your whole life.”
“It’s something you can really immerse yourself in. And that can be used in a good way,” he said. “VR is for regular periods, but not a way to communicate well. So I’m not against it, but that’s how I look at it.”

Solana’s price has taken a hit amid another major outage that has grinded the network activity to a halt.
Crypto pundit and host of NFT Alpha show, Nick Valdez first brought the development to public attention on Twitter after a series of speculative mentions. A few hours later, the official Solana Twitter handle confirmed the report in the early hours of Saturday.
According to the handle, the network experienced an outage and transactions were no longer being processed. The Solana team assured the community that network developers were already up and about, looking to resolve the issue.
This incident marks the fourth time Solana is experiencing a major outage this year. The network is now renowned within the crypto community for its occasional blackouts, as several proponents have cited the pattern as a reason to steer clear of the chain.
Following confirmation of the outage, Solana shared a document with instructions to validators on steps to take in order to assist in solving the issue. The network has been successfully restarted as of press time, and fully operational.
Despite the resolution, the network’s outage lasted for over 8 hours. Solana’s price has, in tandem with the majority of the markets, seen a dip within this timeframe. While it might be a reach to ascribe Solana’s current price situation to the recent outage, the asset has in the past undoubtedly suffered from a network blackout.
Solana is currently trading at $32.98 as of press time, down 3.43% in the past 24 hours. Since its fall from the lofty position of $47.9 on August 13, the asset has been caught in a bearish pattern. The asset saw a free fall from August 13 to August 19 which brought it below the $40-mark. Solana has not revisited the zone at $40 since then.
What Caused Solana’s Recent Outage?
Limited information has surfaced on the root cause of the issue. Laine Stakewiz, a blockchain company running Solana nodes, recently shared insight on the matter.
Several Solana validators stopped voting around 22:40 (UTC) on Friday. Operators received alerts of the issue and congregated on Discord to discuss it and find a solution. The network appeared to have been stuck as it was confirmed that new roots were not being produced.
According to Laine Stakewiz, it was noticed that a validator shared an invalid block. The incident on its own oughtn’t result in a major issue, as it could be resolved by the network. Notwithstanding, the validator seemed to have been on two “instances,” with both producing an invalid block. The act led to the creation of a fork.
The fork, in turn, resulted in an abstruse code path with validators stuck on it. Attempts to switch to the main Solana fork proved futile, leading to a halt in network activity. Upon discovering the core issue, developers noted that a cluster restart was required to resolve the outage.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Rescuers searched for survivors among the ruins of Florida’s flooded homes from Hurricane Ian while authorities in South Carolina began assessing damage from its strike there as the remnants of one of the strongest and costliest hurricanes to ever hit the U.S. continued to push north.
The powerful storm terrorized millions of people for most of the week, battering western Cuba before raking across Florida from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean, where it mustered enough strength for a final assault on South Carolina. Now weakened to a post-tropical cyclone, Ian was expected to move across North Carolina then into Virginia and New York.
At least 31 people were confirmed dead, including 27 people in Florida mostly from drowning but others from the storm’s tragic aftereffects. An elderly couple died after their oxygen machines shut off when they lost power, authorities said.
Chris Schnapp was at the Port Sanibel Marina in Fort Myers on Saturday, waiting to see whether her 83-year-old mother-in-law had been evacuated from Sanibel Island. A pontoon boat had just arrived with a load of passengers from the island — with suitcases and animals in tow — but Schnapp’s mother-in-law was not among them.
“She stayed on the island. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law own two businesses over there. They evacuated. She did not want to go, thinking it wasn’t going to be bad,” Schnapp said. But then she got word Friday night that her mother-in-law would be arriving at the marina: “Now we don’t know if she’s still on the island or gotten on a bus,” and was taken to a shelter, Schnapp said.
South Carolina’s Pawleys Island, a beach community about 73 miles (117 kilometers) up the coast from Charleston, was among the places hardest hit by Ian, and power remained knocked out to at least half of the island Saturday.
Eddie Wilder, who has been coming to Pawleys Island for more than six decades, said Friday’s storm was “insane to watch.” He said waves as high as 25 feet (7.6 meters) washed away the pier — an iconic landmark — just two doors down from his home.
“We watched it hit the pier and saw the pier disappear,” said Wilder, whose house sits about 30 feet (9 meters) above the ocean and stayed dry inside. “We watched it crumble and and watched it float by with an American flag still floating.”
The Pawleys pier was one of at least four along South Carolina’s coast to be destroyed during Ian’s winds and rain. Portions of the pier, including barnacle-covered pylons, littered the beach. The intracoastal waterway was littered with the remnants of several boat houses torn apart and knocked off their pilings in the storm.
Traffic was shut off to Pawleys Island’s southernmost point, where crews were working to clear roadways of sand and other debris that officials said has been piled at least a foot high. The sand will later be redistributed to build back the dunes along the beach front, as happened after similar washing over in 2019.
Many of the elevated beach homes still had feet of sand underneath, with dunes completely washed over and nearly flattened.
John Joseph, whose father built the family’s beige beach house in 1962, said Saturday that he was elated to return from Georgetown — which took a direct hit — to find his Pawleys Island home entirely intact.
“Thank God these walls are still here, and we feel very blessed that this is the worst thing,” he said of the sand swept under his home. “What happened in Florida — gosh, God bless us. If we’d had a Category 4, I wouldn’t be here.“
In North Carolina, the storm appeared to have mainly downed trees and power lines, leaving over 280,000 people across the state without power late Saturday morning, according to state officials.
At least one fatality connected to the storm was reported in Johnston County, outside of Raleigh. A woman found her husband dead early Saturday after he went to check on a generator running in their garage overnight, sheriff’s office Capt. Jeff Caldwell said.
The storm’s winds were much weaker Friday than during Ian’s landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast earlier in the week. Authorities and volunteers there were still assessing the damage as shocked residents tried to make sense of what they just lived through.
Anthony Rivera, 25, said he had to climb through the window of his first floor Fort Myers apartment during the storm to carry his grandmother and girlfriend to the second floor. As they hurried to escape the rising water, the storm surge had washed a boat right up next to his apartment.
“That’s the scariest thing in the world because I can’t stop no boat,” he said. “I’m not Superman.”
Other distraught residents waded through knee-high water Friday, salvaging what possessions they could from their flooded homes and loading them onto rafts and canoes.
“I want to sit in the corner and cry. I don’t know what else to do,” Stevie Scuderi said after shuffling through her mostly destroyed Fort Myers apartment, the mud in her kitchen clinging to her purple sandals.
On Saturday, a long line of people waited outside an O’Reilly’s auto parts store in Port Charlotte, where a sign read, “We have generators now.” Hundreds of cars were lined up outside a Wawa gas station, and some people walked, carrying gas cans to their nearby cars.

Oklahoma update: The Sooners, who were upended at home by Kansas State 41-34 in their Big 12 opener, have had extended success over the Horned Frogs, winning the past eight matchups. Defensively, Oklahoma plays aggressive, leading the league in sacks (13) but not having one against KSU. Averaging 40 points per game, the Sooners have committed only one turnover. Eric Gray has eclipsed 100 yards in three games this season, averaging 7.7 yards per carry.
TCU update: TCU is 3-0 for the first time since 2017, when head coach Sonny Dykes was an offensive analyst. Max Duggan is expected to start at quarterback in the conference opener and Chandler Morris is available. The Horned Frogs have a 76 percent completion rate. Dykes, who came over from SMU this season, is familiar with OU quarterback Dillon Gabriel, a UCF transfer, from their time in the AAC. TCU’s five sacks are the fewest in the Big 12.

DB Reggie Pearson was selected Jim Thorpe Award national player of the week for his two fumble recoveries and interception against the Longhorns. The Red Raiders have given up more than 200 passing yards in three of their four games. Texas Tech has not gone 2-0 in league play since starting 4-0 in 2013.
KSU update: Coach Chris Klieman and OC Collin Klein have coached up Nebraska transfer quarterback Adrian Martinez, who has struggled with consistency, but the veteran engineered the Wildcats’ 41-34 win at Oklahoma. Versatile Deuce Vaughn has gained 468 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 87 carries. Lineman Cooper Beebe has been instrumental in the Wildcats averaging 162.5 yards rushing per game. The Wildcats have won the past six games in the series.

TSU update: The Bobcats are coming off their first shutout in eight years after blanking visiting Houston Christian 34-0. The 142 yards by HCU is the fewest allowed by the Bobcats in the program’s FBS history. Texas State is off to its best start since 2016.
JMU update: James Madison’s Sun Belt debut last week was memorable, beating Appalachian State on the road 32-28, coming back from a 25-point deficit. With the win the Dukes, one of 21 unbeaten teams, received votes in both major FBS polls.
Oklahoma St. (3-0, 0-0) at No. 16 Baylor (3-1, 1-0)
When/where: 2:30 p.m.; McLane Stadium, Waco.
TV: Fox, 1070 AM
OSU update: Coming off extended rest, the ninth-ranked Cowboys open their Big 12 season at 16th-ranked Baylor, the reigning conference champion. It’s also OSU’s first road game of the season. In last year’s matchup in Stillwater, the Cowboys prevailed 24-14. In OSU’s last trip to Waco in 2020, it routed Baylor 42-3. Spencer Sanders has thrown for 916 yards and 10 scores to one interception for the Cowboys, who average 51.7 points and 511.3 yards per game. The team’s leading tackler Mason Cobb has 24 tackles, 15 solo.
Baylor update: In 2021’s Big 12 championship game in Arlington, Baylor avenged a regular-season road loss by holding off Oklahoma State 21-16. The Bears intercepted OSU’s Sanders seven times over both their matchups a year ago. Taye McWilliams, who started the first two games at running back, is out with injury. The duo of Richard Reese and Craig Williams has rushed for 488 yards and eight scores, but against Iowa State the pair combined for only 114 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Against the run, the Bears give up only 79.5 yards per game, 2.56 per attempt.
SFA (2-2, 0-0) vs. Sam Houston (1-2, 0-0)
When/where: 2:30 p.m., NRG Stadium

Sam Houston is moving to FBS and Conference USA in 2023. In last year’s game, SFA led by 14 points in the fourth quarter before the Bearkats rallied for a 21-20 win. Trae Self has passed for 711 yards and three of his nine touchdowns have gone to Xavier Gipson, the school’s all-time leader in receiving yardage (3,376). SFA pummeled NAIA Warner 98-0 last week.
SHSU update: The Bearkats, who have been outscored 58-30 through three games, are coming off the first of three open dates after picking up their first win, 27-17 over Texas A&M-Commerce behind 131 rushing yards from Zach Hrbacek. Keegan Shoemaker will get the start at quarterback replacing Jordan Yates. Shoemaker started last year’s game against SFA. Coach K.C. Keeler is 7-0 against SFA. The Kats are in the midst of a stretch of almost two months playing away from home, and will not play again at Bowers Stadium until hosting Abilene Christian on November 12.

UNT update: North Texas looks to secure its seventh straight Conference USA win dating to last season and playing its first C-USA game since winning at UTEP 31-13 in its season opener on Aug. 27. More balanced than last year’s power running team, Austin Aune is fifth nationally in passing yards (1,316). Tarleton transfer Kaylon Horton rushed for a score at Memphis last week, and a week earlier returned a kickoff for touchdown against UNLV.
UTEP (2-3, 0-1) at Charlotte (1-4, 0-1)
When/where: 5 p.m.; Jerry Richardson Stadium, Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte update: Of 131 teams in FBS, Charlotte is ranked last in total defense and just 96th in offense. Quarterback Chris Reynolds has returned after missing two full games from injury and directed the 49ers past Georgia State 42-41 before losing last week to South Carolina 56-20.

New MMGY Travel Research Highlights A Tale Of Two Travelers – Hospitality Net https://collincountynewsonline.com/new-mmgy-travel-research-highlights-a-tale-of-two-travelers-hospitality-net/
New research by MMGY Travel Intelligence shows that inflation and the rising cost of travel are convincing some Americans to stay put, while Boomers and higher-income households plan to keep traveling and will likely increase their spending on travel over the next year. This traveler dichotomy is just one of the key findings released this week as part of the research firm’s 2022 Portrait of American Travelers® “Fall Edition” survey, which examines the intentions and behaviors of more than 4,500 adult survey respondents.
Overall, 63% of U.S. travelers intend to take a vacation in the next six months – holding steady with figures captured earlier this summer but a 10-point decrease compared to the same time last year. Among those not planning to vacation in the next six months, nearly 40% cited concerns about their financial situation or the rising cost of travel as a reason. The offsetting good news for the travel industry is that those who do plan to travel for leisure in the next 12 months plan to spend significantly more on their vacations than those surveyed last year at this same time ($3,785, up from $2,758 in 2021).
According to Chris Davidson, EVP of MMGY Travel Intelligence, Boomers and higher-income households plan to spend more on travel, while lower-income households indicate they expect to spend considerably less on travel in the year ahead.
“With these factors in mind, we’re predicting that overall leisure travel volume may decrease somewhat in 2023 while prices will likely increase,” said Davidson. “From a hospitality perspective, we expect leisure occupancy to decrease while average daily rate (ADR) increases modestly. As a result, we’re anticipating a slight increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR) on a year-over-year basis in 2023.”
Other key findings from the Portrait of American Travelers® “Fall Edition” include:
With the winter holidays approaching, fewer U.S. adults are planning to travel this season compared to last year, down from 42% in 2021 to 36% this year. Though a statistically significant decline, researchers anticipate that this will still be a very healthy holiday travel season for the industry but potentially down slightly from a volume perspective compared to 2021/2022.
Culinary experiences are a high priority and disproportionately so for younger travelers. In fact, 6 in 10 Gen Zs (56%) and Millennials (61%) are influenced by the quality of the culinary scene when choosing where to stay in a destination. Regardless of how affluent travelers are, respondents in these age groups were found to generally value authentic local food and beverage experiences much more so than traditional fine-dining experiences, such as those designated as Michelin-starred restaurants.
Social media continues to play an important role in travel planning, especially among younger generations. Four in 10 Millennials indicate celebrities and digital content creators have a great deal of influence on their travel decisions (38%). In addition, nearly 6 in 10 Millennials have made a travel purchase based at least partially on a post by a celebrity or influencer (57%). These findings confirm that the reach and effectiveness of social media influencers remain powerful tools in today’s travel marketing landscape.

Sweden: Right-Wing Party Get 4 Chairmanships In Parliament – 69News WFMZ-TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/sweden-right-wing-party-get-4-chairmanships-in-parliament-69news-wfmz-tv/
STOCKHOLM (AP) — A right-wing populist party that received the second-most votes in Sweden’s general election last month landed the chairmanships of four parliamentary committees Saturday and with it, the ability to wield more influence in mainstream Swedish politics.
The positions to be held by lawmakers from the Sweden Democrats include chairing the Riksdag’s justice, foreign affair, business affairs and labor market committees.
“It is important for us, a milestone in the party’s history,” legislator Richard Jomshof, a Sweden Democrat who was tapped to be the next chairman of the justice committee, told Swedish public broadcaster SVT. “It is an expression of the fact that we are Sweden’s second largest party.”
In addition to the four chairperson posts, the party was allowed to name the vice-chairs of parliament’s civil affairs, traffic, defense and tax committees.
Sweden Democrats, a nationalist and anti-immigration party with roots in the neo-Nazi movement, is part of right-wing bloc that won a narrow majority in the Riksdag in the Sept. 11 election.
Decisions on the posts were announced Friday in a joint statement from the four center-right parties that are in talks to form a coalition government. Sweden Democrats, which is one of the four, announced its nominees Saturday.
Ulf Kristersson, the leader of the center-right Moderates, the party that placed third, has been tasked with forming a government that is likely to have the Sweden Democrats as part of a governing coalition or at least the party’s support in securing a majority in parliament.
Kristersson has until Oct. 12 to present results of his talks with parties to Parliament speaker Andreas Norlen.

Guest Column: State Must Address Health Care Disparities In Cities Like Gary Chicago Tribune
Guest Column: State Must Address Health Care Disparities In Cities Like Gary – Chicago Tribune https://collincountynewsonline.com/guest-column-state-must-address-health-care-disparities-in-cities-like-gary-chicago-tribune/
In response to a recent RoundTable discussion with legislators and local providers on the health crisis in Gary hosted by Senator Eddie Melton (D-Gary), State Rep. Vernon G. Smith (D-Gary) comments on the community’s health desert and urges the state to address the harmful systemic disparities.
Recently, I attended a RoundTable hosted by Senate Assistant Democratic Leader Eddie Melton, D-Gary, with healthcare providers and stakeholders of Lake County to discuss the status of healthcare in Gary. This was the first time in the recent past that Gary providers had ever convened to discuss the health status of our community. The response from the healthcare providers attending, as well as state legislators like Rep. Ragen Hatcher, D-Gary, was compelling and I also want to thank them for showing their support for Gary. This initiative to bring local leaders, lawmakers and providers together to craft a plan forward in advancing the health of Gary is greatly needed.
By shedding light on the discrepancies of healthcare within the community, Melton is setting the stage for a future in which equitable health is accessible to all. Our collective actions remind me of a certain passage in the Book of Habakkuk: in order to create a future where all can have true quality of life, we as lawmakers and leaders must “write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it” (Habakkuk 2:2). We started the conversation but there is plenty of work to be done.
Being Black in America is bad for your health.
Being a Hoosier living in Gary is bad for your health.
These statements have only become more true as the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the long-standing health care inequalities facing people of color from disproportionately underserved communities. A multitude of factors, including access to pharmacies, food deserts, mental health care and even public transportation can all determine whether someone lives or dies, or whether someone merely survives or thrives. Gary has all of these problems, including a drastic health desert. All of these issues can and should be addressed with cultural competence training, greater empathy and respect for those of different colors and creeds.
However, none of that can be done or have meaningful impact until state leaders put resources and policy proposals behind addressing these inequities.
In Gary, there are only five practicing pediatricians.
Let me make that clear — in a city of over 75,000 people, there are only FIVE pediatricians.
This is a deeply disturbing reality for all families and children who must live it. On the other hand, the city of Noblesville (with a comparable population size to Gary), has about 125 pediatricians. A discrepancy this large and deadly must be addressed as soon as possible, especially considering that Indiana’s infant mortality rate is 20 percent higher than the national average.
It’s a well-known fact that the better health care a child receives early in life, the healthier their outcomes are as an adult. Furthermore, Indiana’s African American population already faces disproportionate rates of diabetes, hypertension and a decreased life expectancy. The sooner we can get our children on the path of a healthy life, the better.
Post Tribune

News updates from Northwest Indiana delivered every Monday and Wednesday
A lack of pediatricians is not the only problem facing our community. There are elderly and low-income residents that need to be cared for by increasing Medicare and Medicaid funding. There is a great need for more investment in crisis mental health mobile units. There are high rates of pollution further exacerbating health problems like asthma, gaps in accessing safe and reliable transportation that would allow patients to travel for care, and even insufficient pharmacies. In fact, I have heard rumor of a local pharmacy having more alcohol available than medication. That is sad and insulting to all. Each of these concerns are tied to the next systematically, serving as barriers that prevent people of color, the elderly and those from low-income backgrounds in Gary from living dignified and healthy lives.
Systematic disparities require systematic changes, including government funding, adequate health funding, local partnerships, effective policies and increased research.
While these issues may seem like exaggerated statements, data-driven research has proven them true time and time again. The healthcare situation within Gary is complex and sobering, but hope is not all lost. Just as Senator Melton stated, the RoundTable discussion was a great start in beginning to address and understand the health challenges our community is facing.
Throughout my 32 years at the legislature, I have promoted a platform of healthcare, employment, education and addressing all other inequities Hoosiers face. I will continue to work tirelessly in promoting our health needs and concerns to the Indiana General Assembly. Our state has a surplus of over $6.1 billion dollars; there is no reason why we cannot use even just a portion of that money to invest in the plethora of healthcare needs that the community of Gary is facing.
In closing, I want to state that, regardless of how much money you have or what your social status is, if you don’t have health, you don’t have quality of life. Physicians — I am asking you to stop being afraid of our community. Legislators — I am asking you to stop ignoring the needs of our people. Take heed of Senator Melton’s actions and the overwhelming response of providers and join us in working to put an end to these discrepancies in medical care.
Equality in health care is equality in life.

Arsenal Vs. Tottenham Result, Highlights & Analysis As Gunners Move Four Points Clear At The Top Of The Premier League – Sporting News https://collincountynewsonline.com/arsenal-vs-tottenham-result-highlights-analysis-as-gunners-move-four-points-clear-at-the-top-of-the-premier-league-sporting-news/
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said his side were “phenomenal” as the Gunners moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League by inflicting a first top-flight defeat of the season on arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Thomas Partey curled in a superb 20th-minute opener and Gabriel Jesus struck in his first North London derby as Arsenal overcame Harry Kane’s equaliser from the penalty spot — his 100th Premier League away goal — to earn a seventh successive home win.
“From the beginning, we went for it,” said Arteta after victory ensured Arsenal will end the weekend above second-placed Manchester City.
“We were brave, we were courageous, we were free — and that’s what we encourage the players to be.”
Tottenham’s miserable end to their 13-match unbeaten league run was compounded when Emerson Royal was sent off for raking Gabriel Martinelli.
As dominant Arsenal sought to capitalise on their numerical advantage, Granit Xhaka continued his renaissance at the club by firing a low shot past Hugo Lloris.

Antonio Conte made five substitutions as he tried to ease the pressure being faced by his side, who remain four points clear of fourth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion and five ahead of Manchester United in fifth, both of whom have two games in hand on Spurs.
Confident Arsenal revel in revenge
Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham in their penultimate away match of last season was a particularly bitter blow as it all but handed Spurs the final UEFA Champions League spot ahead of the team they love to beat most.
For all the progress Arsenal had shown under Arteta in 2021/22, they failed badly on a night when they could have secured a famous result with that coveted fourth spot in their sights.
Tottenham’s significant spending ahead of Antonio Conte’s first full campaign in charge had made them the stronger favourites to challenge before the start of the season, and Arsenal’s excellent start had been tempered when their first match against heavyweight opponents ended in a 3-1 setback at Manchester United.
There were no signs of the susceptibility to stage fright of which Arsenal have been accused this time as they immediately put Spurs on the back foot by fashioning a succession of good chances.
Arsenal take the lead in the North London derby through a stunning strike from Thomas Partey!

Xhaka kept their passing flowing as confidently as he had for Switzerland during their win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday, and Gabriel Martinelli stopped only marginally short of Richarlison-style showboating as he repeatedly charged down the wing, taunting the recalled Emerson and his backtracking teammates through his speed and trickery.
“That’s the way we want to play, especially against teams that can hurt you on the break,” said Arteta, who will now be able to watch City host Manchester United on Sunday with no risk of his table-toppers being deposed.
Son Heung-min’s four goals in his previous five games against Arsenal and the 13 scored by Kane in 18 editions of the derby did not make the Gunners fearful.
“I really liked that we didn’t play with that in the back of our minds,” said Arteta, having watched his players produce 22 passes on their way to that goal-of-the-season contender that broke the deadlock. “We want to control the game.”

Conte criticises careless Tottenham
Tottenham had failed to win on 35 of their previous 37 visits to their neighbours and that dreadful run looked no nearer improving as Arsenal made much the brighter start in the first derby between the teams this season.
Dejan Kulusevski was ruled out through injury but an attacking line of Kane, Son and Richarlison would have made Antonio Conte hope his team would capitalise even if they had far fewer opportunities, and the Brazil attacker almost prodded in the opener shortly before Partey’s strike flew past Hugo Lloris.
Spurs are rarely as quiet as they were before Kane coolly curled his spot kick past England teammate Aaron Ramsdale, and they had opportunities to go ahead before sloppily conceding again.
“We could have done much better in that situation,” said Conte, discussing his players’ unwise decision to allow Saka ample space inside the penalty area for Arsenal’s second.
Tottenham draw level after Harry Kane scores from the spot. The England frontman now has 14 goals in 18 North London Derby fixtures, a record.

“The red card ended the game because then it was really difficult for us. We tried to play with four at the back but it was really difficult with the characteristics of our players.”
Perhaps Conte had grown exasperated at Tottenham’s play in the final third when he decided to make a raft of defensive substitutions within 20 minutes of full-time, including the withdrawals of Son and Richarlison for Ryan Sessegnon and Matt Doherty.
“We had the opportunity to exploit Arsenal much better in the first half,” said Conte. “Instead, we kept the game in the balance and made big, big mistakes in our last passes.”
You suspect Conte will leave his players under no illusions about the improvements he expects to see. They travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday with the aim of avoiding a second successive Champions League defeat.

That’s a fair assessment. Royal hadn’t been doing terribly against Martinelli but he’d often been left looking like a man chasing shadows in his attempts to deal with his target’s skills and speed.

Conte is having a word with an official about something as Royal makes his way off. He might not have much of a case if he’s contending that red card.
