Earlier on Thursday, after a gap of six years the 36th edition of the sporting extravaganza was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a glittering opening ceremony.

The bulk of the sports will commence on 30th. The Games will come to a close on October 12.
Around 7000 athletes from 28 states and eight union territories along with the Services – sports team of the Indian Armed Forces are participating.
Overall, there are 36 sporting events in the National Games Roster.
6 cities in Gujarat — Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar will be hosting the multi-sporting event.

As expected, Olympics weightlifting silver medallist Mirabai Chanu has won the gold medal in the Women’s 49 kg category. She lifted a total of 191 kgs to finish on the top of the podium. Her statemate Sanjita Chanu lifted a total of 187 kgs to win the silver medal, while Sneha Soren from Odisha won the bronze medal with a total lift of 169 kgs.

In the Women’s 20km racewalk, Munita Prajapati from Uttar Pradesh bagged the gold medal by creating a National Games record with a timing of 1.38:20. In the men’s 20km racewalk, Devender Singh from Services bagged the Gold medal.
In the previous edition of the National Games that took place back in 2015 in Kerala, Services (91 gold, 33 silver and 35 bronze) finished at the top position with 159 medals and were followed by hosts Kerala and Haryana.

When will the National Games of India 2022 begin?
The National Games is making a comeback after a long gap of seven years. Technically, the event started with the table tennis competition, which was held between September 20 to 24.
Which all cities in Gujarat are hosting the event?
The Games will be held across six cities of Gujarat – Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. However, the track cycling event will take place in Delhi at the velodrome.
When was the LAST National Games took place?
The previous edition of the National Games took place in Kerala in 2015. Goa was supposed to host the next National Games in 2016 but due to logistical issues, the event kept getting postponed.
What are the events at this edition of the National Games?
