1M Aussies Will Enter Crypto Over The Next 12 Months Swyftx Survey Cointelegraph
1M Aussies Will Enter Crypto Over The Next 12 Months — Swyftx Survey – Cointelegraph https://collincountynewsonline.com/1m-aussies-will-enter-crypto-over-the-next-12-months-swyftx-survey-cointelegraph/
Approximately one million Australians will purchase cryptocurrency for the first time over the next 12 months — bringing total crypto ownership in the country to over five million — according to a newly released survey.
The findings came from the second Annual Australian Crypto Survey by Australian crypto exchange Swyftx, which was conducted by research firm YouGov.
The survey questioned 2,609 Australians over 18 years of age in early July, with 548 of the survey sample identified as current holders of cryptocurrency.
The report stated that despite the current “Crypto Winter” which has seen approximately $2 trillion in assets wiped from the digital assets market over the course of the last year, Australian crypto ownership has grown 4% year-on-year, reaching 21% in 2022.
According to the report, this figure is set to increase by another one million new crypto owners in 2023, while at least one-quarter of Australians are planning to buy crypto over the next 12 months, with Millenials, Gen Zers, Aussie parents, and those in full-time work most likely to buy.
Source: Annual Australian Crypto Survey, Swyftx
This finding is broadly in line with recent data from a bitcoin processor suggesting the crypto winter isn’t holding back widespread adoption and comments from crypto exchange CoinJar’s head of content Luke Ryan claiming that sports sponsorship is helping legitimize crypto in Australia.
Commenting on the bullish figures for crypto adoption and ownership, Swyftx’s Head of Strategic Partnerships, Tommy Honan told Cointelegraph:
“On the basis of current growth trajectories in the use of digital assets, we expect half of the adults under 50 in Australia to own or have owned crypto within the next one to two years.”
However, Honan said there were also a lot of variables that make forecasting adoption “fiendishly difficult,” adding:
“The expectation is that we’ll see crypto move into the regulated space next year and, all other things being equal, you’d expect that to trigger growth in adoption, but it isn’t a given.”
Honan said the rate of adoption may slow over the next 12 months before recovering again as market conditions improve.
“The bear market has knocked confidence […] Confidence can take the stairs up and the lifts down, so we are going to have to wait and see how quickly the market takes to stabilize,” he noted.
According to the survey, lack of sound regulation was revealed as the biggest deterrent to investing in crypto for those who have not yet done so, along with a lack of knowledge about how crypto works, and overall market volatility.
Related: Institutional investors headed for a tipping point on crypto — Apollo Capital
This finding is reinforced by recent comments from the former head of risk at Credit Suisse CK Zheng, who believes the next crypto bull run will be a result of “regulatory clarity” in the United States.
In a comment to Cointelegraph Swyftx co-CEO Ryan Parsons said the report shows there’s clear demand among Australians to purchase and use crypto, but that a “material factor” for crypto hesitancy remains regulation.
“The drumbeat for defined rules is growing and it will continue to grow if adoption of digital assets increases at its current rate. As this report shows, there’s clear demand among Australians to purchase and use crypto. It is imperative we meet this demand responsibly.”

Secretary Of State Antony Blinken On U.S. Weapons To Ukraine – 60 Minutes – CBS News https://collincountynewsonline.com/secretary-of-state-antony-blinken-on-u-s-weapons-to-ukraine-60-minutes-cbs-news/
Secretary Blinken on U.S. weapons to Ukraine
Secretary Blinken on U.S. weapons to Ukraine | 60 Minutes 02:25
The U.S. is in an “ongoing conversation” with Ukraine about the weapons they need, including Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told 60 Minutes.
“When we’re talking to the Ukrainians, whatever they put on the table is something we’re going to look at, we’re to consider,” Blinken said in an interview on Friday with Scott Pelley. “We’re going to give them our best judgment about what can be most effective for them.”
The Ukrainian government has asked the U.S. to provide ATACMS, longer-range missiles than the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), which the U.S. has already sent to Ukraine to assist its fight against Russia’s ongoing invasion. Russia’s Foreign Ministry threatened earlier this month that if the United States decides to supply Ukraine with longer-range missiles, it will cross a “red line” and become “a party to the conflict.”
In his 60 Minutes interview, Blinken outlined 20 drawdowns of defense equipment the U.S. has already sent to Ukraine, beginning months before Russia’s invasion earlier this year. The shipments included Stinger and Javelin missiles, and anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapon systems. This U.S. military aid, particularly HIMARS, has been “essential” to Ukrainian battlefield successes, according to commentary last week by Mary Glantz of the United States Institute of Peace, a government-funded research institute.
When debating sending additional weapons to Ukraine, Blinken said the U.S. takes several aspects into consideration.
“When we’re thinking about this, when we’re working on this, we’re trying to do it in a comprehensive way, to make sure that, yes, they have the weapons they need, they know how to use them, they know how to maintain them,” Blinken explained.
WHY UKRAINE IS IMPORTANT
Secretary Blinken on why Ukraine is vital | 60 Minutes 02:52
When asked about the limits of U.S. support for Ukraine, Blinken said it is important for Americans to understand the stakes for the U.S. and beyond.
“Yes, this is about an aggression against Ukraine and about horrific things that are being done to innocent people. But it’s also an aggression against the entire international system,” Blinken said. “If one country can get away with acts of aggression against another, if it can simply go in and decide, ‘You know what? I’m going to take over that country. I’m going to change its borders. I’m going to grab its territory.’ If that is allowed to happen with impunity, then what happens?”

ACS Awards Technology Integration Certificates To Local Teachers KPVI News 6
ACS Awards Technology Integration Certificates To Local Teachers – KPVI News 6 https://collincountynewsonline.com/acs-awards-technology-integration-certificates-to-local-teachers-kpvi-news-6/
A group of local school teachers underwent a technology integration program in order to transform their classrooms’ learning environment.
Alexander City Schools awarded five teachers this week for completing a technology proficiency training course. School leaders announced the achievement during a regularly scheduled board of education meeting Tuesday, September 20.
ACS Technology Integration Specialist Brigitte McCawley explained the program that several teachers participated in named “Coaching Cycle” to the school board. The program is designed for teachers to evaluate their classroom practices and environments to assess how technology can be better integrated.
“This is where my role intertwines and overlaps with the academic side of things,” McCawley said. “Because if our pedagogy and our curriculum design and our environment is not set for authentic technology integration, including classroom management, including social [and] emotional skills, all of that then it’s just not going to work.”
The Coaching Cycle stems from the school system’s Technology Integration Model for Continuous Improvement, a model the school system implemented in 2021.
“It [The Coaching Cycle] was centered around three intentionally proposed areas and that is academic standards alignment protect integration, student-centered components protect integration and academic engagement protect integration,” McCawley said.
Among the certification recipients include: Sarah Ray, teacher at Benjamin Russell High School; Lynda Chick, teacher at Stephens Elementary School; Caitlin Harrell, teacher at Radney Elementary School; Scarlette Atchison, teacher at Radney Elementary School and Abegale Faust, teacher at Radney Elementary School.
One of the teachers recognized, Lynda Chick, has set up stations in her classroom that correspond with the SPED program’s alternate achievement standards. Chick plans to be a mentor to other SPED teachers with the ideas she has gained from the coaching cycle program, McCawley said.
The Coaching Cycle program will be extended this school year with some teachers already receiving invitations.
Outside of the Coaching Cycle, the school system also had a media specialist collaboration and strategic plan development. McCawley said this collaboration involved looking at how media centers can be improved.
“What we are wanting to do is, those media centers be what they should be, and that is a central hub of learning for our school and not just for students, for our teachers, for our community,” McCawley said.

Livewire Raises Over $4.7M In Series A Funding; Expands Reach To Global Advertisers In Gaming Sector Mumbrella
Livewire Raises Over $4.7M In Series A Funding; Expands Reach To Global Advertisers In Gaming Sector – Mumbrella https://collincountynewsonline.com/livewire-raises-over-4-7m-in-series-a-funding-expands-reach-to-global-advertisers-in-gaming-sector-mumbrella/
Livewire, the Aussie-founded gaming marketing and gametech company that develops integrated gaming marketing solutions for advertisers, has successfully raised $4.7 million in a Series A funding round.
With nearly 50% of the world’s gamers in the APAC region and a compelling proposition for both brands and gaming publishers, the company has seen early success, expanding from Australia to Mumbai, Singapore and London.
Its exponential growth has resulted in new client wins including Uber Eats for a major research and insights program to inform their gaming strategy, as well as Foxtel Group’s Binge, and Warner Music Australia.
The funding will enable the business to better leverage interest from advertisers and gaming companies globally via accelerated headcount, entry into new markets and further development of proprietary gametech platforms.
The round was led by cornerstone investor RealVC, and includes participation from Perennial Private Ventures, Alua, co-founder of Hills Cider Company Toby Kline, Founding Regional President of EA Asia Pacific, Nigel Sandiford and strategic investors within the gaming ecosystem. The round was oversubscribed, recognising Livewire’s attractive business model and material revenue traction since launch, and sees RealVC’s Managing Partner Matt Berriman join the Board, and Ryan Sohn from Perennial Partners as an investor.
Brad Manuel and Indy Khabra
Livewire co-founders and co-CEOs, Brad Manuel and Indy Khabra started Livewire to focus on the whitespace within the gaming marketing and tech ecosystem. Globally, the gaming audience is 3 billion unique users per day, yet Manuel and Khabra had identified most brands were struggling to engage a generation passionate about gaming through authentic channels with a considered, long-term strategy.
Having built a proposition that sought to address this lack of strategic support backed by what the company is coining ‘gametech’ tooling, Livewire now works with multinational global advertising agencies and brands to deliver compelling gaming marketing solutions.
Khabra and Manuel said: “We’re excited for this next phase. Our Series A funding round will enable Livewire to scale up and invest in our gametech products, talent, and our business operations.”
“We’re adding new skills and staff to continue to drive growth within the gaming marketing sector with our unique offering. Sitting horizontal across the entire gaming ecosystem, Livewire provides advertisers a single-entry point to the entire spectrum of gaming marketing possibilities. Our capabilities cover strategy, creative, content and media.
“We welcome RealVC, Perennial Partners and our strategic investors to Livewire, enabling us to open new markets and triple our staff by February 2023. Livewire reaches a global gaming audience of 3 billion+ players, who are passionate about video games and have made it a core part of modern-day culture.”
The unique combination of experience wielded by Manuel and Khabra has also secured exclusive partnerships across ANZ and APAC for in-game advertising media, equating to over 55 billion impressions across the Livewire Ad Marketplace. This includes Activision Blizzard Media (Candy Crush), AudioMob, the Top 200 games and experiences within Roblox and exclusive APAC programmatic AAA advertising within Xbox and PlayStation games.
Indy Khabra told the Mumbrellacast recently that 17 million Australians are already gaming regularly, and his and co-founder Brad Manuel’s company is working with brands on “practical outcomes”.

First Look Inside H-E-B Frisco – Local Profile https://collincountynewsonline.com/first-look-inside-h-e-b-frisco-local-profile/
On September 21 at 6:00 a.m., H-E-B Frisco will open its doors to the general public. Today, Local Profile got a look inside.
An H-E-B spokesperson tells Local Profile that the Frisco location is the supermarket company’s latest prototype. By that, H-E-B means that for each location, things are tweaked to fit the community.
In Frisco, for example, there is a high Asian and South Asian population, while, in comparison, San Antonio has a higher Hispanic population. H-E-B explains it sorts the stores for the neighbors, which is why the Frisco location makes and sells roti bread — right alongside its famous tortillas.
Like other stores, H-E-B Frisco will offer an array of Texas meat, veggies, seafood and more. But it’s not just enough for the food to be Texan. The company is the largest buyer of Gulf shrimp, but as H-E-B points out, all the seafood it sources is sustainable.
As previously reported, the H-E-B Frisco store is located at 4800 Main Street in Frisco and will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
H-E-B broke ground on the upcoming 111,000-square feet Frisco store in June 2021.
“We’re extremely excited to strengthen our commitment to the DFW Metroplex and provide the Frisco and Plano communities the best H-E-B has to offer,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, H-E-B Executive Vice President North West Food/Drug, said at the time. “Our H-E-B locations across North Texas continue to thrive, and this H-E-B store will allow us to answer the long-standing call for an H-E-B in this growing community.”
“As an iconic Texas brand, we are thrilled to welcome H-E-B to our great city,” Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney also said. “They say no store does more than H-E-B, and we can’t wait for them to bring their renowned quality products and services to support growing families in Frisco.”
As Local Profile previously reported, H-E-B hopes to replicate its success in North Texas. Founded in 1905, H-E-B has over 420 stores in Texas and Mexico. The Frisco location is H-E-B’s first expansion into Collin County. The Plano location will open sometime between late October and mid-November, while H-E-B McKinney is penciled in for 2024 and H-E-B Allen for later that year.

Money Diary: An Office Worker In The East On €26K Working In Dublin – TheJournal.ie https://collincountynewsonline.com/money-diary-an-office-worker-in-the-east-on-e26k-working-in-dublin-thejournal-ie/
WELCOME TO HOW I Spend My Money, a series on The Journal that looks at how people in Ireland really handle their finances.
We’re asking readers to keep a record of how much they earn, what they save if anything, and what they’re spending their money on over the course of one week.
Are you a spender, a saver or a splurger? We’re looking for readers who will keep a money diary for a week. If you’re interested send a mail to money@thejournal.ie. We would love to hear from you.
Each money diary is submitted by readers just like you. When reading and commenting, bear in mind that their situation will not be relatable for everyone, it is simply an account of a week in their shoes, so let’s be kind.
Last time around, we heard from a technology sales executive in the east of the country. This week, a civil servant living at home in the east of the country but working in Dublin.
I am 32 years old and I was in Dublin for a few years but am now back living with my parents outside the capital. My family are originally from Dublin but moved here about 15 years ago. My parents like the quieter pace here. My sister and her family moved nearby not long after.
I studied media but found it hard to get full-time work in that over the years so instead, I worked in various other office jobs while freelancing, and now I have a permanent role in the civil service. During the pandemic, I got the Covid payment which was a lifesaver. Glad to have a full-time job now though.
I was living with some friends in Dublin during Covid times as a family member at home was immunocompromised. We ‘bubbled up’ and did quite well. The rent was manageable for a bit. I wouldn’t go back to that lockdown phase for any money. Hopefully, we never will.
So I’m back living at home because let’s be honest, who among us can afford to pay the outrageous/scandalous/immoral rental costs in Dublin? I do feel like Dublin is my home and while I’m trying to save as I go, it’s so hard to imagine ever being able to a) qualify for a mortgage and b) afford anything with that mortgage as a single earner.
The good news is my new role is hybrid/blended so I’m not having to head up to Dublin every day of the week. That is a game-changer, for me and many of my colleagues.
Occupation: Clerical officer

Monday
7.00 am: Today’s an office day so I’m up early and showering before I get the bus. I let the dog out for her run around the garden. One of my folks will walk her later.
8.00 am: Catch the bus. I know some people hate public transport but I don’t mind it, gives me a chance to catch up on a podcast or read some articles. There’s usually that one person on the bus though who just doesn’t get that headphones are a ‘thing’. This morning, I manage to bag myself a quiet spot.
9.30 am: Signing in to work. I have a nice team and we chat as we go. We get on well. Today’s not too stressful but it’s busy so it flies.
11.30 am: We grab a cuppa and a break in the kitchen. Sometimes, if I’m good, this is when I’d have a piece of fruit, but today we tuck into the biscuits. We don’t get free lunches, just free fruit and bickies and then tea and coffee.
1.15 pm: Time for lunch. I have a soggy tuna sandwich at my desk (grim) and then pop to the local shop with a colleague and nab a can of fizzy drink (not great, I know) and some nibbles €4.75. I won’t win any prizes for healthy eating but it’s Monday and as I’m not in the office every day, I don’t mind.
2.30-5.00 pm: We keep our heads down, two meetings, trying to get all the stuff done off my desk and get out on time today. I’ve been getting loads of WhatsApp messages from my friends about a weekend of fun they’d had that I missed. It’s fine, I wasn’t in the mood, but those social adventures are hard to maintain when you’re living miles away. I guess my liver will thank me!
5.30 pm: Back on the bus and chilling on the way home. The days in the office do feel long, can’t remember what it was like to do it five days a week. We have a relaxed enough hybrid model so I do two on average in the office.
7.00 pm: Home and chat to my folks. They’re good cooks, in fairness so I’m really lucky, I just nab whatever’s on the menu when I get in. Tonight, it’s roast ham, mash and carrots, about as Irish a dinner as you can get. It’s delish. I do the washing up.
8.15 pm: I take the dog out for a walk, good excuse to stretch my legs and get some air.
10.00 pm: After a cuppa and some chats with the folks, time for some chilling. I have too many TV apps, way too many really. I’m bet into Real Housewives and of course, the latest revamps of House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power. They’re good, a bit ‘meh’ in places, but if you’re a fan of the originals they’ll keep you watching.
11.30 pm: Lights out.
Today’s total: €4.75
Tuesday
7.00 am: It’s lashing rain so I decide to work from home today. I always go on Mondays and then make a choice on what I’m at after that, it’s always pretty much office on Thursdays unless I’m wiped. Again, grateful for an understanding manager. So I buy another 20 mins snooze time and then hop up for a cuppa.
7.30 am: This morning the dog is thrilled to see me arrive in my trackies and runners and ready for a coffee and a nice walk. Dogs are clever, they can sense when a walk is happening. We head out and have a good dose of fresh air. She’s a great little dog, stops to sniff everything in sight though, so it’s not the brisk walk I’d hoped for.
8.15 am: Back to the kitchen, coffee on and I decide it’s a day for toast. Slice up an apple and we’re good to go. My dad’s already up and so I bring my mum a cuppa in bed and have a quick chat. Then it’s a shower before work. I’m lucky myself and my folks get on well, must be hard for people who don’t have the option to move home in this housing crisis. My sister is nearby with her family and they’re always in and out, too, so it’s a busy house.
9.30 am: Sign in to work. Team meeting first and it looks like a busy day ahead.
1.15 pm: It’s been non-stop and so I don’t have time for much of a break. My mum the legend drops up a cuppa and a sambo. Happy days.
2.30-5.00 pm: Busy again, I definitely get a bit more done while at home, but I have to be careful to take breaks. Sometimes, I’ll realise I haven’t actually moved away from the desk for hours. I clock off and decide it’s time for walkies with the dog. Before I log off, I have a quick look through some sales online and decide to order myself a nice blazer from Zara, €89.95 (ok, so it wasn’t in the actual sale). If I get a night out in the next 100 years, it’ll look great!
5.30 pm: My sister and the kids have called around for dinner so it’s mayhem downstairs. I have a quick chat and grab the dog for a walk before we eat. She’s delighted. All you have to say is the magic word, ‘walkies’ and her day is made. I love this dog, clearly.
6.00 pm: Back from a quick around the block, dog happy, fresh air clocked up, all good. We all eat together, sister brought a few dishes around, some ham left from last night and I do up a salad. Dinner of champions, team effort.
9.00 pm: It’s been a busy evening so time to chill with TV. I watch the next episode of Bad Sisters on Apple. It’s getting better as it goes. Dublin looks great and the characters are well written.
11.15 pm: Flick through some social, wrecked so passing out.
Today’s total: €89.95
Wednesday
7.00 am: Back in the office today, so up and at ‘em. I have porridge and some pumpkin and chia seeds and yoghurt. Tastes like gruel but I feel virtuous.
8.00 am: Bus time, which means pod/TV/read time. Some people hate reading on a bus but I’m grand. I read a great article on the New Yorker. Pod-wise, I’m enjoying Slate Culture these days if I’m in a high-brow mood, either that or I’ll stick on a Real Housewives on Netflix. Ya gotta mix things up!
9.30 am: Back in work, meetings first and then lots going on. September tends to be really busy in our department, it should level off soon.
11.30 am: Tea time, and yep, a bickie. We have a good laugh as a team. I really think it’s the people that keep you in jobs. Working with difficult people really isn’t worth it. Back to the desk. It’s my mum’s birthday in a couple of weeks so I order her a nice jumper in Next (€56). Knowing her, she’ll send it back, she’s the typical Irish mammy, “don’t be buying me anything, I don’t need anything”, you get the picture. But we keep trying.
5.00 pm: Worked through lunch, had a cuppa and a ham sambo at my desk, very exciting but had to be done, too much on.
5.45 pm: Bus is a bit late so am killing time listening to music. Spotify is well handy, really.
7.30 pm: Home, feet up. Dog’s had a good walk today with the folks and is bunched so all good there.
8.00 pm: My dad had made a spaghetti bolognese so I scoff that down. I wash up and tidy the kitchen and then sit and watch some TV with them.
11.00 pm: Wrecked and staring at some Irish news programmes. Jeepers, they go round and round all evening, don’t they? All discussing the same stuff. Time for bed, scroll through some WhatsApp and Insta (it’s dangerous for time wasting) and off to sleep.
Today’s total: €56
Thursday
7.15 am: Had a mini lie-in and today’s an office day so up and out and have no time to waste. Quick shower, a cup of tea. Sorry, doggy, no walkies. She’s not happy.
8.00 am: It’s lashing this morning so I’m happy to be on the bus....

Cardinals Vs. Rams Score: Live Updates, Game Stats, Highlights, Results For Week 3 NFC West Game – CBS Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/cardinals-vs-rams-score-live-updates-game-stats-highlights-results-for-week-3-nfc-west-game-cbs-sports/
We’re halfway through Sunday’s game in Arizona, where the visiting Rams took a 13-6 lead into the dressing room at halftime. The Rams jumped out to a 13-0 lead on Matt Gay’s two field goals and Cooper Kupp’s 20-yard touchdown run with four minutes left in the first quarter.
After punting on their first four drives, the Cardinals put together a 19-play drive on their fifth possession. The long drive had a disappointing finish, however, as the Rams’ defense were able to hold the Cardinals to a field goal after bogging Arizona’s offense down in the red zone. Arizona managed to squeeze together another scoring drive that also ended with a Matt Prater field goal before the end of the first half. Kyler Murray threw for 169 yards in the first half, but the Cardinals’ running game struggled to the tune of just 14 yards on eight carries.
Aaron Donald made history during the first half, becoming the second defensive tackle in NFL history with 100 career sacks since individual sacks became an official stat in 1982.
Which team will come out on top in this duel in the desert? Follow along throughout Sunday’s game in our live blow below to find out.

China’s first metaverse major was set up at a university in East China’s Jiangsu Province in the hope of training more talents in line with the needs of enterprises in metaverse-related sectors.
The School of Artificial Intelligence (School of Future Technology) of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology in Nanjing, Jiangsu, renamed its Information Engineering Department to Metaverse Engineering Department on Friday, becoming the first university department named after the metaverse in China.
Pan Zhigeng, dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence (School of Future Technology), told the Global Times on Sunday that the renamed department will be integrated with more metaverse-related courses and disciplines to train more talents in line with the needs of enterprises in metaverse-related sectors.
According to Pan, the metaverse is the integration of a vast range of technologies and applications such as Internet of Things (IoT), block chain, artificial intelligence and smart healthcare. Talents trained at the department can meet the demands of companies in a variety of sectors including smart healthcare, smart education and digital tourism.
The new department will also cooperate deeply with metaverse-related enterprises to further promote the integration of education and production, Pan said, noting that the department is also planning to jointly train students of master’s degrees, PhD holders and postdoctoral fellows with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The renamed department immediately sparked heated discussions online with many internet users wondering about what courses will be offered and what kind of talents will be trained.
According to Pan, it is expected that more talents with specific skills needed by metaverse-related sectors will be trained.
The School of Artificial Intelligence is determined to establish three research teams including the Metaverse Research Institute, the Smart Meteorological Research Institute and the Smart Medical Research Institute.
Among them, the Metaverse Research Institute co-established with Yalong Intelligent Equipment Group Co this August will be focused on the smart education sector.
For some scenarios where physical operation cannot be conducted, such as aircraft cockpit, the working environment can be simulated through technology to improve training efficiency.
Besides, since tombs have become more and more expensive in recent years, people can sweep the tomb in the metaverse in the future, Peng said.

Geneverse HomePower ONE PRO + 400w SolarPower 2 Review: Power For The Average Person – Techaeris https://collincountynewsonline.com/geneverse-homepower-one-pro-400w-solarpower-2-review-power-for-the-average-person-techaeris/
Getting power to essential electrical devices when needed can make a difference in an emergency, a power outage, or even a weekend getaway. It can help you make a meal, sleep at night with your c-pap machine, keep your oxygen machine running, keep lights on, heat going or keep the fridge cold.
There are hundreds of reasons why portable power stations, or solar generators as some call them, are quickly becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. For instance, we currently have a vast fire 60 miles from my house. Due to high winds and dry conditions, the power company shut off power to 40,000 people until conditions improve. This is where portable power solutions come in handy. Geneverse has launched two new options to help keep you up and running, the HomePower ONE PRO and the HomePower TWO PRO. The difference comes down to capacity, rated power, and surge power. We will be looking at the HomePower ONE PRO unit and the kit that ships with a pair of 200w portable fold-out solar panels that they dub their SolarPower 2. Let’s get to it.

Design (HomePower ONE PRO)
The Geneverse HomePower ONE PRO design is similar to many brands on the market. Across the front, you find your information screen on the top left. It is bright, clear, and easy to read. You will find all the usual bits of information from battery charge percentage, input and output watts, and approximate hours remaining at the current power draw.
To the right of the display, you have two buttons, one for turning the display on or off and one for the light.
The light on the Geneverse HomePower ONE PRO is one of the largest ones I have personally seen. It measures roughly 4.62″ X 2.25″ and offers three lighting options. Low uses 3w of power and gives plenty of light for a small room. High uses 7w of power and easily lights a master bedroom or small living room. The third option is SOS; this also uses 7w of power, and the light flashes SOS in mores code. Being as bright as it is, the SOS function in low light could help rescuers find you quite easily.
Geneverse HomePower ONE PRO
Next, we have your DC outputs. You have your two QC 3.0 USB-A ports with your two USB-C PD 100W ports below them. To the right is your power button for operating the DC ports. There is a small light on the button, so you can see whether it is on or off.
You find another small power button to turn the inverter and AC plugs off and on to the right of the DC ports. To the right of the button are your three AC plugs which are 120v outlets powered by a 1200W sine-wave inverter with a surge rating of 2400W.
The sides of the unit offer tucked-in handle’s to help you transport it to where you need it. Below the handles are your fan vents to keep the internal electrical components cool while in use and while charging.
On the rear, your charging ports are covered by a small rubber door. The right side is your AC connection, and the left side is your car/solar input ports.
The top is concaved slightly around the edges and flat in the center. It appears that it is designed for stacking multiple units if needed, or at the very least, better storage and transportation. It does make for a great flat spot to put your phone, tablet, or laptop while charging. I am surprised with the flat design that they didn’t add a wireless charger for your phone.
The bottom offers up two large rubber feet that prevent it from sliding around as well as protection against scratching surfaces you may set the unit on.
Ease of Use (HomePower ONE PRO)
One of the great things about power stations is how easy they are to use as a whole. The Geneverse HomePower ONE PRO is as easy to use as the outlets in your house. You are off to the races if you can plug in a toaster and hit a power button. They didn’t overly complicate the front of the device; all the ports are clearly labeled and easy to access.
In the HomePower ONE PRO box, you get the carry case for the cables to charge it via AC (wall outlet) or DC (12v cigarette plug). Plugging the device to charge is just as straightforward as connecting devices. The AC cord measured in at 15 feet, and the DC plug measured in at 7 feet. Both are plenty long enough to reach an outlet without much effort. In our case, we also received a pair of SolarPower 2 solar panels. They came with their own proprietary cables in the carry bags of each panel.
The display gives you all the information you will need to know at a glance. The center of the smart display shows you a battery percentage in digital form as well as a blue circle that depletes as your battery drains. You get hours remaining estimation, watts out, watts in, hours until fully charged estimation, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons for connectivity. You will also see indicators if the temp gets too low, too high, or if there was a malfunction in the unit.
I took the HomePower ONE PRO over to a few friends’ houses who are less than technical, and none of them had any issues making it function or any trouble understanding what the display was telling them.
Performance (HomePower ONE PRO)
With a rated power on the inverter at 1200W and a surge of 2400W, you are going to get pretty solid performance for most of your base needs. Obviously, the needs of each person can vary widely, and even the needs on a day-to-day basis can vary. In my case, I have two primary uses for this type of system, power outage/emergency and camping. I need the system to be safe, easy to use, and reliable.
The ONE PRO has a lot of safety features built-in. Some are a little more difficult to test as a general consumer. I did what I figured might happen, though. For instance, it has overcharge safety protection. I left it plugged in for a few days and never had overheating issues or anything weird happen. I drained it to zero and was able to charge it without issue. I also purposely attempted to run electronics that I knew were over the 1200W rated continuous power, and the ONE PRO didn’t hesitate to shut down to protect itself. I am confident that the other safety features work as designed.
The HomePower ONE PRO offers an ACPS (Automatic Continuous Power System) feature. This allows the ONE PRO to charge the battery at the same time you are powering your devices. I plugged a fan in, then plugged in the ONE PRO and turned the fan on. The battery started charging without issue, and ACPS appeared on its display. I unplugged the ONE PRO, and the fan continued without fail. I also opened the app and turned off charging from AC to make sure the fan would stay powered, and it did. From there, I made sure the mobile app would switch the AC ports off and on. It worked exactly as it should.
If the power went out, the fridge would be the first thing on my mind. Food is expensive, and losing everything in my fridge/freezer would be expensive to replace. I own a Hisense French Door Fridge/Freezer and figured I should have no issue powering it for a day. After digging into the specs of the fridge, I learned that it chews through power. I obviously didn’t think about that when I bought it. I ran the fridge for 4 hours and saw fluctuations from 4W-277W. According to Hisense, the average hourly watt consumption should be around 72W an hour, and it seems like I was about 70W. If that is the only thing running and we aren’t opening and closing it too many times, the HomePower ONE PRO should be able to run the fridge for roughly 14 hours without additional power inputs. With any luck, I’ll have some sunshine and can feed it solar power too.
Other kitchen items tested to keep the family going were pretty basic gadgets that I would most likely use if the power was out. I made some toast in the toaster and got a rating of 792W. I made a fried egg on a small electric griddle from Wal-Mart and used 516W. I also made some rice in the pressure cooker that pulled 909W and drained roughly 15% of the battery. I gave the AirFryer a shot, but it pulled over the 1200w and shut down as I had anticipated. Anything that generates heat will use a lot of power. While some of those numbers seem like a lot, like the toaster, it is only running for a few minutes. Yes, it pulled the ONE PRO down a few percent on the charge, but I could make a lot of toast before it died.
Moving to the living room, the HomePower ONE...

Shiba Inu Price Drops Another 6% Today – But Here’s A New Meme Coin Set To Explode – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/shiba-inu-price-drops-another-6-today-but-heres-a-new-meme-coin-set-to-explode-cryptonews/
Disclaimer: The Industry Talk section features insights by crypto industry players and is not a part of the editorial content of Cryptonews.com.
Shiba Inu has dropped by 6.4% in the past 24 hours. SHIB’s 24-hour dip adds to the intense bearish pressure that has seen it lose 19% of its value over the past month. At the time of writing, SHIB was trading at $0.00001124.
SHIB drops by 6% today
Shiba Inu seems to be affected by the bearish sentiment pushing its price to lower lows. During the past 24 hours, SHIB has recorded $433 million in trading volumes, with its market cap dropping slightly to $6.63 billion.
SHIB fell off the top-ten ranking of the largest cryptocurrency by market cap a few months back, and it now ranks as the 12th largest cryptocurrency by this metric. SHIB recorded a massive bull run towards the end of last year and reached a new all-time high. However, it has since dropped by 86% from these levels.
Over the past few weeks, SHIB has struggled to find a stable foothold as it suffers from the same volatility that has affected the broader crypto market. However, things seemed to be looking up for the meme coin after it managed to stay above the $0.00001 level for two months.
SHIB’s price has been hovering above the $0.00001 support level for a while now. It went past this level towards the end of July, and the action saw it make an over 50% upswing. It sustained the uptrend for a while before sellers entered the market.
SHIB’s downtrend was confirmed in mid-September. If the current bearish trend continues, SHIB’s price will drop below the $0.00001 levels and test support at $0.0000093 and $0.0000083.
While such a decline could appear bearish in the short-term, it could create a long-term bull trend as traders jump in to buy the meme coin at low prices.
The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line is sitting at the signal line, showing that bulls and bears are fighting for control. The Relative Strength Index of 46 shows that the bullish sentiment is dying as the selling pressure continues. Therefore, SHIB could continue trading in the red zone for the short term.
However, the RSI could also show that a trend reversal is on the way. In this case, SHIB could jump to test the next resistance at $0.000012 and $0.000015. However, this jump could also rely upon broader market support and positive developments in the ecosystem.
Tamadoge is set to explode
While SHIB appears bearish in the short term, Tamadoge, the newest meme coin in the market, could make notable gains following its upcoming listing on OKX exchange. TAMA will go live on OKX on Tuesday, September 27.
Tamadoge rose to popularity after completing one of the most successful presales in crypto history. The presale raised $19 million, ending way ahead of schedule. Tamadoge’s presale was more successful than the Ethereum 2014 Initial Coin Offering.
Tamadoge is a meme coin that has also adopted the buzz of the play-to-earn sector. The Tamaverse is a virtual world where players can use their Tamadoge pets to fight with other players and receive rewards in TAMA. Unlike other meme coins, TAMA has robust tokenomics with a fixed supply of 2 billion coins. Half of the total supply was sold during the presale.

Jordan Spieth goes 5-0, and Xander Schauffele earns the clinching point as the Americans cruise to another victory over the International team.
Xander Schauffele celebrates after he defeated Corey Conners to clinch another Presidents Cup victory for the United States. Chris Carlson/Associated Press
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jordan Spieth capped a perfect week at the Presidents Cup and the Americans made it nine straight victories against an International team depleted by defections to Saudi-funded LIV Golf.
The Internationals showed plenty of fight. They just don’t have a cup to show for it.
That stays squarely in the hands of an American team that was coming off a record romp over Europe in the Ryder Cup last year.
Xander Schauffele delivered the clinching point when he made a 6-foot par putt on the 18th hole for a 1-up victory over Corey Conners. That gave the Americans 15 1/2 points with five matches still on the course.
Conners and Taylor Pendrith, the only Canadians on the team, were the only players who failed to contribute a point. Conners three-putted from 25 feet on the 17th with a chance to square the match, and he hit into a bunker from the fairway on the 18th.
Spieth made putts from all over Quail Hollow for a 4-and-3 win over Cameron Davis that kept the Internationals, in need of their greatest Sunday singles performance, from gaining any early momentum.
Spieth became only the sixth player to win all five matches in the Presidents Cup, winning all four of his team matches with Justin Thomas.
Spieth, a three-time major champion and former No. 1 player in the world, first qualified for U.S. teams when he was 20. But he had never won a singles match – 0-3 in the Presidents Cup, 0-3-1 in the Ryder Cup.
And then he fell 2 down after two holes before turning it around in a big way.
“I was more nervous than I should have been because I wanted to get that monkey off my back,” Spieth said. “When you get off early on a Sunday, they’re looking for red on the board. And it feels good to provide it.”
Thomas was trying to join Spieth at 5-0, but he lost to Si Woo Kim in a match that came down to 10-foot birdie putts on the last hole.
No matter. When Patrick Cantlay whipped Adam Scott and Tony Finau rallied from 2 down to beat Pendrith, the outcome was as inevitable as it usually is.
The Americans improved to 12-1-1 in a series that began in 1994. Their only loss was at Royal Melbourne in 1998, and there was a tie in South Africa in 2003.
The Internationals fell behind 8-2 after the opening two days with a team that featured eight rookies, half of them replacing players such as British Open champions Cameron Smith and Louis Oosthuizen, who were not eligible after the PGA Tour suspended them for signing with the lucrative rival tour.
One of those rookies, Sebastian Munoz of Colombia, took out world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and went unbeaten for the week at 2-0-1. Another was 20-year-old Tom Kim, the fresh face of these matches, who gave the Internationals hope on Saturday with a performance as big as his personality.
Over four days, however, the Americans were too strong and too deep.

LUBBOCK, Texas – On Sunday afternoon at the John Walker Soccer Complex, Trinity Byars scored a brace (two goals) to lead the Longhorns as the sophomore forward’s sixth career multi-goal effort helped power No. 25 Texas soccer (7-1-3, 1-0-1 Big 12 Conference) to a 2-0 road league shutout of rival Texas Tech (4-3-4, 0-1-1 Big 12 Conference).
After suffering a lower leg injury just 18 minutes into Thursday’s night 1-1 tie at No. 12 TCU, sophomore midfielder Lexi Missimo missed Sunday’s match-up at Texas Tech and is listed as day-to-day moving forward.
Texas Match Notes
Byars’ brace (two goals) marked her sixth career and third multi-goal performance of 2022 (previously had a brace against Florida on Aug. 28 and a hat trick versus Texas Southern on Sept. 15).
Texas stretched its overall Big 12 Conference unbeaten streak to 11 straight matches (7-0-4) and its overall 2022 unbeaten skein to nine consecutive contests dating back to Aug. 28 against Florida.
Byars scored her ninth and 10th goals of the year in just her 10th match of the 2022 campaign (she scored 12 goals over her entire 2021 freshman campaign). The Richardson, Texas, native entered Sunday already leading the Big 12 and ranking seventh in NCAA Division I in total goals.
Texas’ two-goal win over Texas Tech was just the second multi-score victory for either team over the last 18 meetings in the series.
Graduate goalkeeper Savannah Madden made four stops in registering her 20th career solo shutout. That number is good for fourth all-time in the Texas career record book.
Texas now leads Texas Tech in the all-time series by a total of 18-9-4 and took the lead in Lubbock match-ups, 7-6-0.
Byars’ fifth-minute goal marked the 32nd time that Texas scored in the first 10 minutes of a match under the guidance of head coach Angela Kelly. In those instances, the Longhorns hold a stellar 26-5-1 record.
Texas is now unbeaten over its last 50 matches (49-0-1) when scoring at least two goals in a match dating back to the start of the 2017 season.
UT is 41-4-6 when scoring first in a contest since the start of 2018 and 5-0-3 in 2022.
Texas and Texas Tech tied in total shots at 15-15, but the Longhorns led 9-4 in shots on goal and 7-3 in corner kicks.
The Details
Texas Tech came out on the front foot to begin the match by controlling possession over the opening few minutes of action.
The Red Raiders created the match’s first scoring chance off a cross from the right side at 2:20. Waiting in space in the middle was Ashleigh Williams, but her 10-yard header popped straight up as graduate goalkeeper Savannah Madden leapt high to collect it in a crowd.
Against the early run of play, Byars delivered a moment of personal brilliance at the 4:02 mark. In Texas Tech’s offensive half of the pitch, a TTU player attempted a back pass but struck the ball into empty space back across midfield. Byars ran on to the errant feed and took off hard up the left wing. The Richardson, Texas, native drove to the top left corner of the 18-yard box and moved middle. Somehow dribbling her way between three Red Raider defenders, Byars moved in 1-v-1 on Texas Tech keeper Madison White and beat her into the right corner from 12 yards out to make it 1-0.
Back at the other end, Texas Tech continued to hold the majority of the early possession with Charlotte Teeter firing high and wide left from distance at 5:24.
The Longhorns began to exert more control on the match with sophomore midfielder Jilly Shimkin testing White through a 12-yard drive from the right side at 13:25.
Just 26 seconds later, Byars came close to scoring a second off a cross from the left side, but her strike from the middle of the box rolled just outside the left post.
Another mis-hit Texas Tech back pass was swiped by Byars during the 23rd minute. Tightly marked, the sophomore forward drove into the right edge of the 18, but her eventual 14-yard shot struck the back of the side netting.
In possession out on the left side, Texas Tech’s Macy Schultz took advantage of a slipping Texas defender and quickly moved middle. Once she entered the top of the box, Schultz fired a right-footed effort from 17 yards out, but it ventured harmlessly outside the left post.
Off a quick Texas counter in the 39th minute, senior forward Teni Akindoju ended up in possession just outside the top of the 18. She drove to her right and attempted to bend a 17-yard shot into the right edge of net. TTU’s White dove completely out to her left and just managed to deflect the shot outside the post with the fingertips of her left hand.
Out of the halftime break, a give away in the Texas defensive third granted Texas Tech the first second-half chance for either team at 49:26. Peyton Parsons swiped an errant pass and fired from 20 yards, but her shot traveled high and wide left.
Sophomore midfielder Jilly Shimkin forced White into more action between the pipes at 53:15 as her blast from 20 yards out on the right wing was stopped and smothered.
During the 55th minute, Byars completed her sixth career multi-goal effort by displaying more of her trademark offensive brilliance. Off a long pass up the right side from sophomore midfielder Ashlyn Miller, Byars took possession and drove towards the top right corner of the six-yard box. She quickly juked to the left and slid a five-yard, right-footed shot back the other way past White and inside the right post for a 2-0 advantage.
With Texas Tech desperate for a quick answer, Kylie Bahr got herself into some space outside the top of the box at 66:56, but her shot was easily nabbed by Madden.
At the 69:22 mark, the Red Raiders came probably as close as they would to a breakthrough in the match only to be denied by the wood work. In possession on the left side of the box, Gisselle Kozarski had a shot blocked. The ball ricocheted around in the middle before landing right at Ashleigh Williams’ feet standing about six yards out. Unfortunately for TTU, Williams’ shot at an open net traveled straight up and off the cross bar before Texas could clear its lines.
A bad clearance nearly led to a third for Byars at 74:55 as a mis-hit pass near the right side of the six dropped right to the Texas standout about eight yards out in the middle. Unfortunately, Byars’ right-footed shot proved straight to White for a routine stop.
Back at the other end in the 76th minute, TTU’s Schultz received a pass, turned and drove into the 18 facing a building 1-v-1 situation. She eventually tried a 14-yard shot, but Madden dove to her right to smother it.
Texas sophomore forward Holly Ward did strong work to save a ball from going out near the left end line and create a scoring chance at 81:30. Unfortunately, her eventual eight-yard shot from a tough angle was saved out for a corner.
Ward again tried her luck from the left wing at 85:13, but her 16-yard try drifted high over the cross bar.
From there, Texas did all the necessary work to run out the clock on a workmanlike, 2-0 league road triumph.

Collin College Automotive Tech Program Expected To Benefit Plano Region Community Impact Newspaper
Collin College Automotive Tech Program Expected To Benefit Plano, Region – Community Impact Newspaper https://collincountynewsonline.com/collin-college-automotive-tech-program-expected-to-benefit-plano-region-community-impact-newspaper/
Going into its third year, Collin College’s Automotive Technology program has received the highest level of accreditation recognized by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
In the post-pandemic world, the automotive industry is struggling to find employees, area officials said. Universal Technical Institute representatives predict a wave of older mechanics retiring will create 100,000 auto technician job openings over the next decade. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projected a 4% decline in employment in the field through 2029, according to a 2022 study conducted by software as a service platform for the insurance industry CCC Intelligent Solutions Inc.
But with its program and its accreditation, Collin College is training up a new generation of technicians to serve Collin County and cities like Plano.
“Our classes are in high demand,” said Elias Alba, Collin College’s interim director of automotive and collision technology. “Our classes filled up so quickly I had to open up a new section.”
The Automotive Technology program offers a full degree program and certificate programs that prepare students for certification in Maintenance and Light Repair, Automotive Service Technician, or Master Automobile Service Technology designations.
Bill King, provost of the Technical Campus, said accreditation was an important step in the Automotive Technology program’s development.
“This accreditation is an indicator of how seriously we take providing industry-standard training,” King said in a statement.
Prior to the pandemic, it was already a tough industry to fill positions, said Brent Franks, president with the North Texas Automobile Dealers, which serves multiple counties, including Collin. It is a challenge that has remained constant, as workers in this industry are “essential,” he said.
“Our communities are so spread out,” Franks said. “We need to have qualified technicians to fix our vehicles to maintain our ability to get our kids to school and to go to work,” he said.
A growing problem
Collin College has several industry partners for its automotive technical program, including North Texas Automobile Dealers. To earn certifications, students must complete at least one internship in an automotive-related job, Elias said. Partners are often reaching out to the college asking if students are available for help, he said.
“The demand for technicians is very high,” Alba said. “We have people that are retiring or leaving or left the workforce, so you can say our partners are kind of desperate, and they need a lot of technicians.”
Data from the Texas Workforce Commission shows job postings for automotive technicians were one of the top listings in Collin County with 268 postings between January-July of this year. Only two other job post categories had more than that with retail trade at 641 postings and “other services” with 1,187 postings.
The top two cities in the county posting automotive tech job openings were Plano and McKinney. Texas Workforce Commission data shows an entry-level position can earn a salary of $28,626 with an average wage of $50,224.
Technician shortages end up costing drivers more time, data shows. According to the CCC study, from 2019-21 the time between the start and completion of a repair increased 2.1 days. It is also taking longer to get an appointment to bring a vehicle in for repairs with 96% of the shops in the study reporting in 2021 they had backlogs of two weeks.
“A work shortage would mean people won’t be able to get their cars fixed, their fire engines fixed, their emergency vehicles fixed,” Franks said.
A changing industry
Ewing Automotive Group has three dealerships in Plano, including Ewing Buick GMC on West Plano Parkway. The dealership offers a range of service and repair options for drivers in Plano and Frisco, according to its website. Jeff Gaden, general manager at Ewing Buick GMC, said he believes Collin College’s Automotive Technology Program is going to benefit area dealerships and service providers.
“We were very pleased to hear that they were going to be in our backyard and offer the program,” Gaden said. “I actually went out and toured the campus, and it’s a great facility.”
With staffing shortages being reported nationwide, Naeim Fard, manager of Luxur Automotive on Ohio Drive in Plano, said he believes that the Collin College program’s focus on educating the next generation of technicians prove useful to Plano and the region.
While Gaden said Ewing Buick GMC has not had the same issues hiring technicians that others in the industry have experienced, when they are needed it is important to find skilled and well-trained employees.
“We’ve been pretty fortunate [with being] able to keep our technicians, but as demand increases and service departments become more busy, [finding] good, qualified technicians is so difficult,” he said. “If someone does retire or change career paths, it’s hard to find someone else to build that kind of position [experience].”
One of the key challenges with finding skilled workers in this field is that cars have become more electrical than they were two decades ago, said Sean Boyll, professor of Automotive Technology at the college. The development of electric vehicles has added a new element to repairing vehicles, but also gas-powered cars now have electrical components to consider.
“All the mechanical parts have gotten to a point where the maintenance is fairly minimal,” Boyll said.
The challenge associated with electric vehicles not only adds an extra layer of training, but it also can require more time spent by technicians performing scans and calibrations, researching repair methods and even recharging electric vehicles, the CCC study stated.
Fueling a shift
The accreditation has created even more student interest in the program, Alba said.
During the spring semester, the Automotive Technology Program at Collin College had about 123 new and continuing students enrolled in the program, according to data from the college.
At the start of the new fall semester, the program had 189 new and continuing students, including general population college students as well as about 25 dual-credit high school students, Boyll said.
Since the program began in 2020, enrollment has more than doubled, data shows.
Jobs in automotive technology cannot be outsourced, Alba said, so students going into the program know they will have jobs available right at home. In addition, a career in the field can be high-paying, he said.
The career paths in automotive tech vary as well, Boyll said.
“You can go any direction you want; you don’t have to turn a wrench,” Boyll said, adding that people can go into customer service with their certifications, automotive engineering or working with automotive manufacturers and the various positions that can offer.
“The sky’s the limit for somebody coming into this industry,” Alba said.

No Museum-Hopping: See How Indigenous Art Is Made By The Villages Of Boruca Mask-Makers – TheTravel https://collincountynewsonline.com/no-museum-hopping-see-how-indigenous-art-is-made-by-the-villages-of-boruca-mask-makers-thetravel/
Art and nature lovers visit the Boruca village in Puntarenas, where Boruca masks were born, and watch artisans create wonder.
When people think of Costa Rica, they think of beaches, waterfalls, and immersion in natural wonder. They may not immediately think of viewing art or spending a day meeting local wood carvers. Yet there is a very old indigenous art form making a vibrant comeback across the country.
Better than museum hopping, art lovers and nature lovers can visit the Boruca village in Puntarenas, see the place where Boruca masks were born, and watch artisans in the process of making these distinctly beautiful and unique pieces.
Venue: Boruca Village
Activity: Boruca Masks, Weaving, Drums
Lunch: Typical Costa Rican Food $10, Kids Eat Free
For $10, they can also get a hearty Costa Rican lunch (kids under 5 eat free) and learn about the history of Costa Rica’s native cultures, all inside the same natural splendor that provides these artists their inspiration.
What Are Boruca Masks?
The Ticos (what Costa Ricans call themselves) are deeply proud of their wondrous countryside. The coasters, keychains, towels, and tote bags you find at souvenir stands all boast Blue Morpho butterflies, sloths, monkeys, iguanas, parrots, and other iconic flora and fauna. In shops everywhere in recent years are the light, colorful balsa wood masks of the Boruca.
The faces on these masks meld with the forest, become the animals and reach and stretch to magical proportions. They are a mind-bending vision of organic life, an unreality grounded in Mother Earth.
Warriors peer out from behind a tree frog. Toucans melt into waterfalls. Jungle cats with six-inch fangs are covered in hummingbirds.
Some “masks” have no faces at all but simply depict the thickness of the rainforest, a pod of dolphins leaping through the ocean, or an owl perched on the branch of a tree. Each piece is handcrafted and unique.
History Of The Masks
These wall decorations emerge from the generations-past tradition of ceremonial mask-making. Boruca people once thrived in the southwestern part of Costa Rica.
When the Spanish invaded South and Central America way back in the 1500s, they created masks (quite different from their modern-day counterparts) from natural elements to channel the energies of the animals and chase the conquistadors away. These masks were made only once a year for ceremonies of power and unity.
The old masks use a wider variety of materials to create the effect of a face peering out from under the tail feathers of a Scarlet Macaw or a man’s eyes appearing under a crown of leopard print horns.
As tourism spread, the women of the Boruca Tribe prompted the men to carve and paint the masks as a trade for international visitors. All the features are painted on wood, the artist finding a distinctive shape in the peculiarities of the individual log. In the traditional Costa Rican aesthetic, this art celebrates the connection between human, animal, and plant life by merging them into a vibrant, powerful amalgam.
Mask makers work on their own schedules and are often out of their homes. They begin by selecting balsa wood and then making sketches of what they want to carve directly onto the wood.
From there, artists work in their own time to whittle the wood down to its final form and then begin painting. Mask making is traditionally male activity, but it is becoming less so over time. Women often paint the sculpture after men carve them.
For original artwork, the Boruca masks are also affordable, ranging from $50 for a small piece to $300 for one that could command the room.

Visiting Boruca
The Boruca Village is a 145-mile car ride from the capital city of San Jose. It is not a typical tourist destination or part of a high-end tourist package, so a rental or taxi will be necessary. Visiting Boruca puts you in the heart of pre-Columbian culture, allowing you to see how the Costa Rica natives preserve their elder’s practices in a fast-changing world.
The best time to visit the Boruca Village is the dry season December through April, when roads are more accessible, and visitors can see the natural beauty without tracking in mud.
Of particular interest is December 30th to January 2nd, when they hold the Baille de Los Diablitos festival or “Dance of the Little Devils.”
This festival attracts hundreds of tourists, celebrating the history of the conflict between the Spaniards and native tribes, using traditional masks and exciting dances. You can see a video about it here.
If you can’t be there for New Year, Boruca welcomes visitors year-round to take a self-guided village tour or set up a special tour or private carving demonstration.
Other Things To See In Boruca
If you make the trip out to Boruca, you can also take away two other types of indigenous arts—drums and hand-woven goods. Like the masks, drums are made from balsa wood or cedar, and the skins of wild peccary or cows.
The woven materials use items directly from the forest, including leaves, clay, and even mollusks, to give the threads a vibrant color before turning them into bags and rugs, and a variety of textiles.
Weaving is traditionally female, but even here, gender roles are shifting.
Where Else To See Boruca Masks
Art galleries and other venues throughout Costa Rica sell Boruca Masks and other indigenous arts.
If you are flying into San Jose Airport, it’s worth stopping at the Galeria Namu, near the Jade Museum, to check out its collection of Boruca Masks and indigenous arts.
In Dominical, you can find them at The Boruca Gallery Gift Shop. In the mountains, you can find them at the Coco Loco Art Studio and Gallery in La Fortuna. On the northwest beaches, try The Palms Hotel in Playa Del Coco, about an hour from Tamarindo.
You might also find them in surprising places like farmers’ markets, souvenir shops, and coffee houses.
Like the sighting of Blue Morphos, jaguars, iguanas, and other wildlife that inspire this art, the masks themselves can be found peeking out of many corners.
Big Dreams Come True For Taylorville Small Business Wcia.com
Big Dreams Come True For Taylorville Small Business – Wcia.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/big-dreams-come-true-for-taylorville-small-business-wcia-com/
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) – In just over a year of business, a local sustainability shop continues to thrive in a small town setting.
Located just off the courthouse square in downtown Taylorville, Down to Earth Sustainability offers a wide variety of items, including face wash, laundry detergent, shampoo and conditioner, dish soap, toilet bombs and more with refill options.
Shop owner Jessica Oyler began her business in 2017, traveling to various farmer’s markets and other events in a 1979 VW bus. She has since sold the vehicle and opened her first storefront in July 2021.
“It was a blast going mobile, but having a storefront is amazing,” said Oyler, who has resided in Taylorville all her life. “Knowing that customers are choosing to walk in my doors to support my business is an outstanding feeling.”
Aside from personal care products, other items available for purchase include houseplants, up-cycled clothing, handcrafted goods and decor, recycled items and more. Besides her products, Oyler also has around 30 other local artists and entrepreneurs who sell their own items in the shop.
“Taylorville was always my first choice in regards to opening a storefront,” Oyler said. “I grew up here and always had planned on coming back after college.”
To combat a developing anxiety disorder, Oyler searched for peace through her passions for sustainability and entrepreneurship.
“Running a business is full of highs and lows,” Oyler said. “I’ve been overwhelmed with support from my community and beyond. As most retail owners would know, entrepreneurs truly work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is hard work, but very rewarding to help contribute to my town and to see customers love what I love.”
In addition to its regular shopping hours, Down to Earth hosts several craft classes such as candle making and pottery. Customers can also take in the sights of an old-fashioned candy counter and a 1969 pinball machine set on free play for customer use.
“Our town has a lot of heart and shows great support for their small businesses,” Oyler said. “I feel proud to be here in our downtown business district.”

Silvera for Seniors is celebrating 60 years as a trusted leader in providing a diverse selection of safe, affordable housing and services for independent older adults. But the history goes back even further — in the 1950s, citizens sought to address the need for low-cost rental retirement homes and formed Bow Valley Lodges Foundation and opened its first facility.

Forty-nine residents of that former location are now moved into the new facility, what CEO Arlene Adamson refers to as a best-in-class design by Abugov Kaspar Architecture and built by Dawson Wallace Construction.
“We have a deep commitment to offer seniors an environment where they can be stronger, healthier, have new learning experiences and become more engaged with others, instead of just sitting around in their homes watching TV and not getting the right nutrition,” Adamson says.
Gilchrist Commons features a spacious, bright dining room with high vaulted ceiling, corner store, grab-and-go bistro, hair salon, multiple outdoor balconies, rooftop patio and landscaped outdoor courtyard area. Chef-inspired daily meals provide healthy food, while snacks and beverages are also available 24/7.

Another big plus is the location of Gilchrist Commons — nearby facilities include the Village Square Leisure Centre, Calgary Public Library and grocery stores, plus restaurants and shops, and a very good neighbour in the Robert McClure United Church.
As a connected under-one-roof community, the campus now brings together residents of 225 apartments to share all of the amenities, and the benefits of participating in active aging programs to support their physical, social and mental well-being.
Adamson, in her 12th year as CEO of Silvera for Seniors, is also president of the Alberta Seniors and Communities Housing Association (ASCHA), showing a deep commitment to ensure the elderly are given every opportunity to keep their health, embrace life with new adventures and thrive in a safe environment.

Silvera currently has buildings in 28 communities in all four quadrants of the city, serving more than 1,700 tenants who are served every day by a dedicated and caring staff of 400.
The number of Canadians over the age of 65 is increasing rapidly, and many on fixed incomes will need to be housed where there are no barriers to living a full life.
Silvera has proved to be a successful manager of supportive living and independent living in affordable housing. It is already in the final planning stages for a new facility in the Livingston community north of Stoney Trail, while further expansion is also planned at its Glamorgan campus and another new residence farther south within the city.

Shachi Kurl, president of the Angus Reid Institute, will be the keynote speaker at the interactive first annual Women’s Leadership Forum, to be held at the BMO Centre on Nov. 9. Presented by Axis Connects — a Calgary non-profit that was established to connect, collaborate, champion and provide career development resources for gender diverse professionals — its mandate is to unite more than 100 organizations focused on women’s initiatives in Calgary. Axis reports that 45 per cent of employees at Canada’s largest firms are women, but female representation diminishes considerably up the leadership ladder. “The advancement of women into key decision-making roles has been slow, therefore our primary objective of the forum is to accelerate progress, break down barriers and create opportunities for women to take on leadership roles,” says board chair Heather Culbert.

While Bitcoin Has Tanked, This Coin Has Risen 300% This Month And Is Still Climbing! – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/while-bitcoin-has-tanked-this-coin-has-risen-300-this-month-and-is-still-climbing-cryptonews/

Deciding what to do with your Bitcoin, as prices continue to fall, can be tough. Many believe that the tide will eventually turn and if they hold on for long enough BTC will rise to new heights. The only problem with this is that while waiting for the market to bounce back, your BTC is just sitting there, doing nothing.
One increasingly popular answer is ArbiSmart (RBIS), which rose over 100% last week, and is continuing to climb steadily, as the rest of the market falls.
The EU authorized project safeguards against crypto market volatility, enabling you to keep hold of your Bitcoin and put it to work earning unmatched profits whichever direction the market shifts.
A Shield Against Falling Prices
The ArbiSmart ecosystem offers a number of ways to grow your Bitcoin, regardless of market trajectory.
Firstly, this summer, ArbiSmart introduced its interest-generating wallet, which supports a huge list of FIAT and cryptocurrencies, from BTC, EUR, and GBP, to BTC, ETH, COMP, APE, SHIB, and many others. The wallet offers the same consistent returns, in a downturn or an upturn, generating industry-high rates of up to 147%.
Crypto owners can keep funds securely stored interest-free, but accessible for withdrawal at any time, or decide to lock their funds in an interest-bearing savings plan. They can choose between short-term plans lasting 1, or 3 months and long-term plans lasting 2, 3, or 5 years. The longer the lock on the funds the higher the profits, which are also influenced by the way daily interest is received. Interest can be sent to an available balance, where it is always accessible, or it can be added to the locked balance for a higher return.
Interest rates are primarily determined by the wallet holder’s account level, which is based on how much RBIS they own. More RBIS means a higher rate of interest on balances in every supported currency.
If the balance is in RBIS, the returns will be three times higher than for balances in other currencies. If the wallet holder decides to keep their capital in BTC, ETH, or another preferred currency they can still boost their interest rate by choosing to receive just the interest in RBIS.
Inevitably, as the new wallet gains traction, in the coming weeks and months, more RBIS will be locked in savings plans for extended periods, leaving general circulation and diminishing the forever capped token supply. Once demand exceeds supply, the RBIS price will rise. This will mean that in addition to profits from savings plans, RBIS owners will enjoy huge capital gains on the climbing token value.
Another bear-proof RBIS utility that generates the same consistent passive profits in any market conditions is ArbiSmart’s automated crypto arbitrage platform. The service offers sky-high returns of up to 45% a year, depending on the user’s account level.
Crypto arbitrage is an investment strategy that makes money from price disparities across exchanges. These temporary price differences occur frequently, whichever direction the market is moving, often resulting from discrepancies in trading volume between bigger and smaller exchanges.
The user just deposits funds that are automatically converted into RBIS and then the algorithm takes over. Integrated with 35 exchanges, it tracks hundreds of coins round the clock to find price differences. It then buys at the lowest price before selling at the highest, for the best possible profit.
A Dynamic, Growing Ecosystem
The ArbiSmart development team has not been in hibernation during this bear market. In fact, it is in the middle of a massive undertaking.
Over the next 4 months a number of new RBIS utilities are being introduced almost simultaneously. These include a mobile application for storing, exchanging, buying, and selling crypto, as well as a completely original DeFi protocol that will offer one-of-a-kind gamification features. Liquidity providers will be rewarded with 0.3% of the fees from each trade plus up to 190,000% annual percentage yields.
This winter the development team will also be launching a marketplace for the purchase and sale of non-fungible tokens (NFT’s), a unique collection of ArbiSmart NFT’s, a cryptocurrency exchange and a gaming metaverse, where participants will be able to buy, develop and sell digital real-estate for real profits.
Each of these new additions to the ArbiSmart ecosystem, just like all existing utilities, will require use of the RBIS token. As a result, in addition to earning revenue from staking, savings, trading, gaming, NFT investing, and arbitrage, RBIS owners will be increasing demand for the native token, driving the price higher and boosting their capital gains even further.
A Digital Asset on the Rise
According to analyst projections, RBIS is expected to rise to just over 40 times its current value by the end of 2022 and it is well on its way.
So far this month, RBIS has already soared 300% and shows no signs of slowing down, even as the rest of the market has been sinking.
With the new wallet growing its userbase, and multiple new RBIS utilities in the pipeline for the coming months, RBIS is THE coin to watch this autumn and winter. To start profiting before the price skyrockets any higher, open a wallet now!

Don’t Worry Darling Opens To Impressive $19.2M At The U.S. Box Office – PEOPLE https://collincountynewsonline.com/dont-worry-darling-opens-to-impressive-19-2m-at-the-u-s-box-office-people/
Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde, earned an impressive $19.2 million at the U.S. Box office on its opening weekend, from more than 4,000 U.S. theaters, according to Variety.
The film also collected another $10.8 million at the international box office, bringing its global total to $30 million.
Despite the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score of 38 percent, moviegoers reacted positively, with the site’s audience score currently at 80 percent. Variety reported that 66 percent of ticket buyers were female, with the majority being between 18 and 34.
Per the outlet, Warner Bros., which distributed the $35 million budget movie, said in a statement to the press on Sunday, “We’re enormously proud of this film and are pleased with these results given our modest production budget.”
Karla Welch, Wilde’s stylist, celebrated the news with a cheeky post on Instagram.
Don’t Worry Darling stars Harry Styles and Florence Pugh as Jack and Alice, a young couple living in the seemingly perfect company town of Victory, Calif., in the 1950s. As cracks begin to surface in their idyllic community, Alice becomes obsessed with the nature of her husband’s work.

On Friday, when the movie officially premiered nationwide in theaters, Pugh, 26, marked the moment with a post on Instagram that featured photos from the film’s set. Pugh included a snap of herself and Wilde, 38, dancing together in character.

Wilde also celebrated the film’s premiere on social media, sharing a photo of her and Pugh smiling on the set with Styles, 28, and screenwriter Katie Silberman. “Don’t Worry Darling is officially open,” she wrote in the caption. “Aaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!”

IT firms trying to improve cost efficiency by cutting annual hikes, variable payouts and slowing the pace of replacement hiring
MUMBAI : Tech graduates with employment offers from large companies, including Wipro, Infosys, and Tata Consultancy Services, are scouting for other jobs as onboarding delays stretch beyond six months. Meanwhile, students and engineering colleges are worried that the delays will also impact coming campus placements.
“I got an offer from Infosys, and my friend has an offer from Wipro. We got the offers this March and are awaiting news of onboarding. Many who received offers in January-February have not been onboarded yet; so, we do not know when our turn will come, if at all,” said Anupriya K., who graduated from an engineering college in Andhra Pradesh.
Anupriya is scouting for another job because she cannot afford to go without a salary after graduating.
“My batchmates are contacting companies whose jobs they did not take up and opted for the IT firms,” the 23-year-old added.
Technology service providers are one of India’s largest recruiters from college campuses, and they went into a mammoth hiring spree in FY22.
According to news reports, Infosys hired 85,000 in FY22, Wipro 17,000, TCS 100,000, and HCL 23,000 campus graduates or freshers in the last fiscal.
While the offers were made when the business outlook was robust, the tech firms are now confronting an uncertain economic outlook because of fears of a recession in the US, their biggest market.
Increased travel and subcontracting costs, margin pressures and higher costs of work-from-office are prompting companies to absorb new hires at a slower pace. They are also trying to improve cost efficiency by reducing annual hikes, variable payouts and slowing the pace of replacement hiring. In addition, the firms are reskilling employees instead of hiring laterally, as manpower utilization in the sector is expected to ebb over the next couple of quarters.
“The onboarding is dependent on business coming in from clients. The batch awaiting placements is not very keen on the tech companies,” said a placement officer at one of the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) who did not want to be named.
Typically, tech service companies make most of their recruitment from campuses or hiring drives. The drives occur all year round, while campus placements start from December and continue till April.
Salaries vary depending on the profile. In many tier II and tier III colleges where the tech firms conduct mass recruitments, the starting salary offer is ₹3.6 lakh. However, in the premier ones, the compensation can be manifold, and only a handful are recruited.
According to various news reports, campus hiring for tech firms in FY23 is expected to be 50,000 by Infosys, 40,000 by Wipro, 45,000 by TCS, and 45,000 by HCL.
The tech firms said they are in touch with prospective employees. Infosys stressed that entry-level hiring “is a key driver” for the company’s future, and it has “onboarded a record number of hires” during the past few quarters. However, it maintained that recruitment is client-driven.
“Hiring at Infosys is always aligned to client requirements through the year and, consequently, we spread the joining dates of various batches to align with the changes in project schedules and to ensure employees have access to the right training,” the company said in an email response.
Wipro said, “it will honour all offer letters that have been made to deserving candidates”. On Saturday, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) asked the ministry of labour and employment to look into the onboarding delay at Wipro in absorbing 2,000 campus graduates.
“Livelihood of thousands of students and employees is now jeopardized. These students & employees applied for a job in Wipro around September 2021,” NITES said in its letter.
HCL denied any onboarding delays. “There is no delay in onboarding freshers, and it is progressing as per timelines,” the company said.
Queries emailed to TCS remained unanswered.

Online Gaming: Fragnova Shows Positive Side Of Web3 Tech With Its First Game Crowdfund Insider Crowdfund Insider
Online Gaming: Fragnova Shows “Positive Side” Of Web3 Tech With Its First Game – Crowdfund Insider – Crowdfund Insider https://collincountynewsonline.com/online-gaming-fragnova-shows-positive-side-of-web3-tech-with-its-first-game-crowdfund-insider-crowdfund-insider/
Fragnova recently announced that Ambal Duels, a “free-to-play” strategy card game, will be the “first” blockchain-enabled game to be “built using the platform’s unique game development engine, Claymore.”
Using blockchain technology means the game will “have immutable assets and modding functionalities, allowing the community to create their own content that they can choose to monetize, thanks to the direct-to-creator royalties distribution that’s fundamental to Fragnova’s approach.”
Ambal Duels began life “as a successful Kickstarter campaign for the fantasy-themed strategy card game Ambal Tournament.”
Ambal Duels is reportedly “the first game to be built entirely using Fragnova’s decentralized model, and so is the platform’s first proof of concept game.”
The game’s development is “being led by Bernardo Bittencourt, a Founding member of Fragnova and the one-person team behind Salt Ring Games.”
Bernardo Bittencourt said:
“Bringing Ambal Tournament to the digital realm has been a passion project of mine, so I’m really excited we’ll be able to grow the game and share the fantasy world of Ambal with entirely new audiences. Fragnova is the perfect platform for Ambal Duels as the blockchain provides the ideal foundation for players to trade and collect cards. The platform’s focus on user-generated content and modding functionalities make Fragnova unique, enabling the community to express themselves creatively while keeping the game fresh with new content.”
Ambal Duels is “a strategic card game combining online RPG elements to create a fast-paced and highly customizable gameplay experience.”
There are “no monsters in Ambal Duels; instead, the game offers deep strategic options through spells and actions, putting players in the centre of the action.” The tides of battle constantly shift “thanks to blocks, interrupts and other unique mechanics, offering high replayability and evolving strategies.”
Fragnova’s aim is for the revenues in games “to be distributed more equitably to those who work on them through creating a decentralized gaming ecosystem underpinned by blockchain technology.”
When completed, Fragnova’s decentralized game development ecosystem “will include a dedicated game engine called Claymore, a Gamer Store offering in-game items or playable experiences (similar to elements of Playstation Dreams), and the Creator Store, a marketplace for developers filled with assets like 3D models, scripts or audio.”
As with any game developed on the Fragnova ecosystem, Ambal Duels’ developers and artists can realize the total value of their creations “thanks to the integration of blockchain technology that tracks the usage of those assets or items.”
Giovanni Petrantoni, President and Founder of the Fragnova Foundation, remarked:
“The game will allow people to see what our mission at Fragnova is all about and our long-term goal of bringing about decentralised game creation. I hope people will understand that just because the game is built using blockchain technology, it has nothing to do with Play 2 Earn or monetisation. Above all, we want to create a fun and enjoyable experience for our players. Blockchain is just a vehicle to help get us there and ensure game creators are fairly compensated.”
Ambal Duels’ alpha is “planned for the start of 2023.”

His Republican challenger, Faith Johnson, says she would seek it, especially for cases like Billy Chemirmir, the man accused of killing 18 elderly people in robberies across Dallas and Collin counties.
