The debate issue comes as two recent polls show a statistical dead heat between the two candidates, much like several other polls taken in recent months. A Marist College poll shows Vance ahead of Ryan 46 percent to 45 percent among registered voters with a 3.6 percent margin of error in a poll. The poll, conducted Sept. 12 to 15 of 1,200 registered voters, also has Vance ahead 48-47 among voters who say they definitely plan to vote. The poll showed that 40 percent of Ohioans have a favorable opinion of Ryan, 25 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him and 35 percent either never heard of him or are unsure how to rate him. In comparison, 30 percent of those polled have a favorable opinion of Vance, 36 percent have an unfavorable opinion, and 34 percent either never have heard of Vance or are unsure how to rate him, according to the poll. Eligible projects are newly constructed or renovated public education facilities completed in the past five years and not previously submitted in this annual exhibit. The Exhibit of School Architecture awards are given at the discretion of a 12-member jury, which includes four school board members, four school administrators, and four members from the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) Southern Region. The juried exhibit awarded Stars of Distinction for Excellence to 34 projects in one or more of the following six areas: design, value, innovation, community, planning, and school transformation. The Annetta campus was recognized under the “innovation” category. Cool, I thought. But then I made the mistake of looking down at the comments. My goodness are there a bunch of … ahem … snowflakes — let’s go with that — out there, reacting with hyperbolic vitriol to a female football player. The degree to which they decided to try to tear down not just the young woman in the ad, but every young woman they’d ever seen play football (and some of them branched out into female athletes in general) was just disgusting. One has to wonder what deep-seated insecurities these folks must be nursing if they are so thrown off by a strong, athletic, talented young woman capable of playing the sport she loves. There were comments along the lines of “I’d like to see her take a real hit,” indicating a few of these troglodytes wish injury upon any woman playing football. Let’s remember plenty of men can’t take the hits that are dished out regularly in today’s version of the game. There are dangerous injuries, yes. Their gender does not protect them from that. Meanwhile, a few commenters were honest enough to note that, well, she’d probably take a hit as well as Tom Brady does. At least those people seemed to be having a little fun with the conversation. But, bless their hearts, one has to wonder why the idea of a woman playing football is such a threat to these people. What on earth could justify their lashing out so nastily? (One also has to wonder how many of the people making ugly comments have actually ever played football.) If you were paying attention to West Virginia high school football in late August, you may have heard of Layna Grassi, the Philip Barbour High School kicker who in one game went 7-for-7 on extra points, nailed a 30-yard field goal, and then after a fumbled snap, threw a touchdown pass. Then she ran in a cross country meet and played three soccer games before heading out onto the field again for the next football game. Just a shot in the dark that most of the people crying about female football players never managed that kind of athletic involvement. After her touchdown pass, video shows Grassi’s teammates celebrating with her. She calls them “her brothers.” Thank goodness those young men aren’t as poisoned as the trolls on social media. This brings me round to another item I saw last week. It was a 1967 photo of Kathrine Switzer trying to run the Boston Marathon as the first officially registered female competitor. During the race she was assaulted by a man trying to grab her bib number, harassed by a pack of other men and made to feel not just unwelcome, but as though she was in danger. One of those manly men was John Semple. In her memoir, Switzer says after she realized someone was trying to rip off her numbered bib, “Instinctively I jerked my head around quickly and looked square into the most vicious face I’d ever seen (Semple’s). A big man, a huge man, with bared teeth was set to pounce, and before I could react he grabbed my shoulder and flung me back, screaming, ‘Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers!’” Why? What’s the threat? What are these people afraid of? Semple was attacked for running with the men 55 years ago. It seems a certain breed of men (and, let’s be honest, some women) has not evolved a bit since then. They’re the kinds of people who watch a WNBA game and claim they’d stomp all over those women if they were playing one on one. (OK, Bobby Riggs, good luck with that.) They’re the kinds of people who criticize a woman for looking too athletic and strong. Not feminine enough, they say. It’s a shame, truly. Not a single thing about their lives is diminished when a young woman excels at — or even just participates in — a sport she loves. Nothing. Alaska Army National Guard helicopters have flown more than 3000 miles and logged more than 33 flight hours moving personnel and supplies across the affected region. “Alaskans are resilient because they live with and regularly prepare for the most extreme weather in our country. The case involves the pending divorce of Mariam Ayad and Ayad Hashim Latif, filed in January 2021. When the couple was married in 2008, they signed two documents entitled “Marriage Contract” and “Islamic Pre-Nuptial Agreement.” While the Marriage Contract is a largely ceremonial document, it is not in dispute. It’s the Pre-Nuptial agreement that is being challenged. “In the Agreement, the parties recite their ‘belief that Islam . . . is binding on [them] in all spheres of life,” a court order says.  The agreement provides that “[a]ny conflict which may arise between the husband and the wife will be resolved according to the Qur’an, Sunnah, and Islamic Law in a Muslim court, or in [its] absence by a Fiqh Panel.” The Fiqh panel consists of three people who serve as impartial arbitrators and judges, who are guided by Islamic law and principles.  The majority decision of the Fiqh Panel is binding and final. But Ayad claims she was defrauded and had no idea she had signed the Pre-Nuptial agreement until recently.  The contract was signed in front of witnesses at the wedding. “She was signing the ceremonial contract.  They lifted the corner.  She signed the second page thinking it was just a direct duplicate of the document,” said Michelle O’Neil, attorney for Ayad.  O’Neil says by chance, a child who had just been given a video camera as a present recorded the entire ceremony. But the document held up during a hearing in front of Hon. Judge Andrea Thompson to determine the enforceability of the agreement. An imam testified as an expert on Latif’s behalf, but the trial court refused to allow Ayad to testify on the term’s ambiguity, which it concluded was a “legal question.” Shortly thereafter, the trial court concluded it would order the parties to arbitrate under the Agreement, the Supreme Court order says. That still rankles O’Neil. “Under Islamic law, the wife doesn’t get a say.  The wife doesn’t get to present evidence.  She has to have three people confirm her side of the story for her to be taken seriously under Islamic law,” O’Neil said.  “Are we going to apply our U.S. Constitution where everybody gets an equal say and an opportunity to be heard, or are we going to apply Islamic law where women’s rights are so incredibly deficient compared to men?  That’s the issue that’s going to be before the trial court.” Because custody of a child is involved, the Supreme Court issued a writ of mandamus ordering a hearing. “The error here is not that the trial court reached the wrong conclusion regarding whether to compel arbitration. Rather, the error is that the trial court did not follow a statutory command—unique to the divorce context—that it try issues of validity and enforceability prior to ordering arbitration, and thus it reached no conclusion on those issues at all.” the opinion says. The Supreme Court remanded the case back to Judge Thompson with the expectation she would conduct further proceedings in accordance with the opinion. Attorneys for Latif did not return our call. People with a history of smoking who exercise regularly, eat nutritious foods, and maintain a healthy weight can reduce their risk for premature death by almost 30% compared with those who don’t adopt such good habits, researchers have found.  “Engaging in more aspects of a healthy lifestyle was associated with a lower risk of mortality than engaging in one aspect,” said Maki Inoue-Choi, PhD, an epidemiologist at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Maryland, who led the new study. “Former smokers may benefit from engaging in one of the healthy lifestyle recommendations but receive an even larger benefit if they follow more of them.”  For the study, published in JAMA Network Open, Inoue-Choi and her colleagues analyzed survey data from 159,937 former smokers in the United States. The data were part of a larger look at some 570,000 people participating in the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study. The primary outcome of the study was mortality on or before December 31, 2019, and participants had a mean follow-up period of roughly 19 years.   Former smokers who adhered to health recommendations were as much as 27% less likely to die over the study period than those who didn’t follow the suggestions. The effect appeared to be cumulative. The risk for all-cause mortality was 12% lower for those who had average adherence to health recommendations and 4% lower for those who had slightly above average adherence, according to the researchers. People who adhered more closely to the recommendations also were less likely to die of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory conditions during the study period, they found. Overall mortality rates were lower among those who quit smoking earlier. However, better adherence to the healthy lifestyle recommendations was associated with a lower risk for death regardless of when a person had quit smoking. More than 50 million Americans have quit smoking, according to Inoue-Choi. Previous studies have shown substantial health benefits to a healthier lifestyle and to quitting smoking.   “Former smokers are a large group of people who by nature of their quitting smoking may be especially motivated to adhere to other evidence-based healthy lifestyle recommendations,” she said. Evidence shows that alcohol consumption and smoking increased during the pandemic, but according to Inoue-Choi, there’s very little research about the effects of these increases on former smokers. According to Hilary Tindle MD, MPH, founding director of the Vanderbilt Center for Tobacco Addiction and Lifestyle, Nashville, Tennessee, the new findings are significant because of the message they send to patients.   “You don’t have to be the poster child for health — midrange adherence still decreases mortality. The technology building healthcare VR experiences Penumbra and the Real System VR team had to design metaverse experiences that specifically addressed physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language rehabilitation and general mental well-being. “For example, when a physical therapist works with a patient to improve their range of motion, they perform specific physical motions,” Chen explained. This work demands a solid understanding of the underlying clinical principles used in rehab and translating them into VR experiences. The metaverse solutions for healthcare are not just VR headsets; patients’ arms, legs, upper body and core, are “rigged” with VR sensors and tracking technology. “In VR, we can recontextualize those motions as an immersive experience and layer-in goal-oriented gamification that encourages people to do more and enjoy doing it,” Chen adds. While virtual reality therapy builds on existing treatments and therapies, it is also unconstrained by several real-world limitations. “Instead of a therapy clinic, we can put you on a tropical island, or your favorite city, underwater or in space,” Chen said. Immersion distracts the patient from pain and fatigue and improves the quality of a patient’s outcomes. The technology leading the way in the healthcare metaverse sector is unlike the AR/VR tech used by everyday consumers. “The healthcare environment has different requirements than commercial entertainment products, so I would recommend products that are designed specifically for a healthcare use-case—without that, you’re just playing games,” Chen said. Accessibility in VR healthcare is not just about the hardware but about ensuring that the software, virtual environments and experiences are user-friendly and accessible to people who have never tried VR or AR before. Designers, therefore, have guidance built into the experiences. On the other hand, to adapt to effective rehabilitation or treatments, the simulations can be customized by therapists according to the patient’s demands. “Therapists need the ability to change the difficulty and stimulation levels of an experience on the fly, or change the game settings to add new elements to the experience if they feel they need to for that patient,” Chen says. Barry explained that VR truly captures a patient’s imagination and motivates them throughout their course of rehab, “intrinsically motivating them to stick to their exercises and helping them progress faster.” Metaverse virtual reality experiences can distract the patients from the mental hurdles and discomfort and allow them to focus on the task at hand, which may be “moving a virtual bird from one branch to another, or playing a virtual pinball game”. “We’ve heard from providers using our VR for rehab that they’ve seen patients move in ways they didn’t think possible and even, in some cases, progress faster than they’ve expected, and that’s the ultimate goal—to help patients get the most out of their rehab experience as fast as possible,” Barry said. For many, a healthcare metaverse is not an unusual sight as the pandemic accelerated the adoption of telemedicine, and patients demanded new technology options for care. “What this technology has the potential to do is to allow a single therapist to effectively treat more patients, or patients who have challenges accessing services,” Chen said. VR experiences also present themselves as solutions to problems that affect the sector like burnout of healthcare professionals, increased demand and long waiting times, and overworked care centers. “VR offers therapists a new tool to increase engagement and satisfaction with the rehab experience, which often leads to better outcomes in the real world,” Barry said.

CBP officers coordinated with local, state, federal and international agencies to repatriate the individual. The individual was escorted to the international boundary line by Mexico State Police officials and turned over via the Stanton Dedicated Commuter Lane border crossing.    The individual was secured and escorted to secondary inspection where biometric verification confirmed his identity along with the active warrant for capital murder multiple persons, out of Dallas, Texas. The individual was arrested by CBP officers and turned over to the United States Marshals Service. Not at the software’s unveiling in June and not even after iOS 16’s public release in September. It’s actually surprising considering that one little-known new feature may actually be one of the most important upgrades iOS 16 has to offer for iPhones. Some of the best new features that slipped under the radar aren’t even listed on Apple’s support webpages for iOS 16. Apple’s developer documentation doesn’t even mention the features below. But that’s part of the fun about getting a big new iOS update — there are a lot of cool things to discover on your own. Don’t Miss: Your iPhone’s Contacts App Just Got Its Biggest Update Ever 1. Pick Which App Opens a Link from Messages When you tap to open most links in the Messages app, they open in whatever app they’re associated with. That’s the case for all rich and non-rich links on iOS 16 and lower. However, Apple snuck in an obscure feature that lets you pick apps to open links in — but it only works for some non-rich links. To try it, long-press a non-rich URL to open the quick actions. If you only see “Open Link,” it won’t let you pick an app. But if you see multiple app names, you can choose one of those apps. For example, the quick actions for a shortcut’s iCloud link will show “Open in Safari” and “Open in ‘Shortcuts,'” while the quick actions for a podcast’s RSS feed link will show “Open in Safari” and “Open in ‘Podcasts.'” Don’t Miss: Apple Just Improved Messaging on Your iPhone with 26 New Must-Try Features 2. Use Apple TV Remote as an App If you use the Apple TV Remote from your iPhone’s Control Center to control your Apple TV or AirPlay 2–enabled smart TV, there’s an interesting change for you on iOS 16 that makes it more like an app than just a Control Center tool. While you won’t find an app icon for it on your home screen, nor in Spotlight Search or the App Library, it does act more like an app. Before, whenever attempting to switch apps from the remote, it would just close the remote and send you back to Control Center. On iOS 16, it actually lets you enter the app switcher, so you can quickly switch back to the remote after using another app. Even better, it now has a URL scheme — tvremote:// — so you can make your own app icon for it in the Shortcuts app and add it to the home screen. When you do that, it will even appear in Spotlight Search and the App Library. 3. Get Instant Unit Conversions in Messages When chatting with others in the Messages app, you’ll likely see a specific unit of measurement, currency, temperature, or something else in a conversation, especially if you’re talking with somebody from a different country. On iOS 16, Messages lets you convert those units to your preferred ones. It works for temperature, currency, weight, volume, distance/length, area, angles, time zones, and more. Some compatible units include Fahrenheit, Celcius, Kelvin, miles, kilometers, feet, inches, yards, quarts, pints, ounces, cups, pounds, teaspoons, tablespoons, horsepower, watts, radians, and liters. If Messages can convert a measurement, the unit will be underlined. Then, you simply tap or touch and hold the unit to get the most popular conversions for your location. Apple does have information on using Live Text to convert units in photos but never mentioned anything about conversions in Messages. Type, Sign, and Add Shapes in Handwritten Notes Another welcome addition to iOS 16 that Apple never discussed is the option to add shapes, typed text, and your signature to any handwritten note in the Notes app. It works just like it does for Markup in other scenarios, like when drawing on a screenshot, annotating a PDF, marking up an image in an email, etc. — only the menu looks slightly different. To add a sketch or drawing to a note, tap the Markup icon (the pen) from the toolbar above the keyboard or at the bottom of the note. Copy and Delete Screenshots Simultaneously One of my favorite iOS 16 features is something I’ve wanted for years: the ability to copy a screenshot to the clipboard and delete the image with one button. If you’re someone like me who keeps a bunch of unwanted screenshots in Photos, you’ll probably love this. First, take a screenshot and tap its thumbnail to open the editor. Then, edit the screenshot as needed and press “Done.” You’ll see a new “Copy and Delete” option in the menu. Tap that, and the screenshot will head right to the “Recently Deleted” album in the Photos app where it will eventually be wiped from your device, and you can use the paste function in any app to add the screenshot image. Before, you could only create and edit contact groups from the Contacts app on macOS or iCloud.com. The only thing you could do on your iPhone on iOS 15 and older was show and hide the groups you set up on your Mac or the web — unless you were willing to use a third-party app. Now, you can create, rename, edit, and delete lists, as well as add and remove contacts from them — and it couldn’t be easier. But if you didn’t know about it, you might never notice it if you keep using Contacts as you did before. (Kitco News) – The World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced the launch of a new Crypto Sustainability Coalition, which will investigate how Web3 and blockchain tools can be utilized to achieve positive climate action.  The Switzerland-based non-government organization revealed the new coalition on Wednesday, outlining that it will include 30 partners within the intersection of sustainable development and web3, crypto, and blockchain technologies, during a panel discussion titled “Web3’s Climate Impact.” Members of the coalition will explore the potential positive impacts technologies like blockchain, cryptocurrency, and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) have on environmental and social agendas.  “The coalition launch is timely as there is an urgent need to support the decarbonization of cryptocurrency and ensuring the industry is part of the climate solution,” Madeleine Hillyer, U.S. media specialist for the WEF, said in a press release. “Furthermore, there needs to be regulatory clarity that promotes web3 innovation, protects consumers, and improves financial inclusion.” To help further these efforts, the coalition will support research and development, share best practices, and influence regulation pertaining to climate-related matters.  The crypto industry as a whole is relatively energy intensive. Just Bitcoin alone has an annualized carbon footprint equal to the country Greece, and its energy consumption is equivalent to that of the United Arab Emirates, according to the Digiconomist Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index. The coalition will be divided into working groups that will focus on three main areas of interest: energy usage, Web3’s potential for climate action, and “On-chain” carbon credits.  The energy usage group will analyze the crypto industry’s consumption of energy and materials to better understand its impact on climate and nature. The Web3 working group will “investigate ways in which web3 innovations could tackle challenges facing the low-carbon transition at the pace required to hit the Paris Agreement’s targets.” The on-chain carbon credits working group will explore the ability of blockchain-based carbon credits to address the current flaws in global carbon markets. The list of partners joining this new endeavor includes Accenture, Avalanche, Avatree, CC Token, Circle, Climate Collective, Crypto Council for Innovation, Emerge, Energy Web Foundation, eToro, EY, Flowcarbon, Heifer International, KlimaDAO, Lukka, NEAR Foundation, Nori, PlanetWatch, Plastiks, Rainforest Partnership, Recykal, ReSeed, Ripple, Solana, Stellar Development Foundation, STEWARD, Sustainable Bitcoin Standard, The Global Brain, Toucan Protocol, University of Lisbon, and Zero Labs. New River Gorge National Park: A First-Timer’s Guide – AFAR Media https://collincountynewsonline.com/new-river-gorge-national-park-a-first-timers-guide-afar-media/ Tucked away in the mountains of West Virginia, the New River Gorge has largely been an underrated travel destination. Yes, locals have long known about this incredible natural playground—it’s been popular among white-water rafting enthusiasts for decades, and Appalachian families have lived symbiotically with the land for generations. But many people first learned about the New River Gorge in 2020 when it became the nation’s 63rd, and newest, national park. Given the unique ecosystems here, that designation, and the additional protections it now receives, is well deserved. Despite its name, the New River is estimated to be between 10 million and 360 million years old, making it the second oldest in the world. The forest around it is home to over 1,500 different plant species, one of the most biodiverse in the Appalachian region. Humans too have an ancient and storied presence here. Archaeologists have found human artifacts in the area believed to be at least 12,750 years old. More recently, between the late 1800s and the 1950s, the area was home to a large number of coal mines. Remains of these coal mines and the nearby towns can still be found throughout the park. In the 1970s, the area began gaining popularity among outdoor enthusiasts and was first named a protected area in 1978 when it became a national river. It now offers a wide range of activities, including white-water rafting, climbing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, climbing, kayaking, SUP, and even base jumping (at least for one day of the year, Bridge Day). For those venturing here for the first time, use this guide to discover what to do, where to eat and drink, and where to stay in the New River Gorge National Park. It has several different access points, but it can take up to an hour on meandering backroads and byways to get between them. First-time visitors are best off focusing on the area around the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, where many of the park’s most popular trails and attractions are accessible by a short drive, including the iconic New River Bridge—which, with a span of 1,700 feet, is the longest single-arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere. It’s also a quick, five-minute drive from the visitor center to the charming small town of Fayetteville. Though just a few blocks long, you’ll find outfitters for the most popular sports (rafting, rock climbing, fishing, and mountain biking), as well as a solid selection of accommodations, shops, and eateries, in or within a few miles of town. Itinerary: If you only have one or two days . . . To get a good sampling of what the park has to offer, don’t miss out on a sunrise hike on the Endless Wall Trail, a half-day white-water rafting trip on the New River (also known as “the New”), and a sunset drive on Fayette Station Road. For those with more time, head out on a half-day climbing tour with an experienced guide, then hike or mountain bike on Long Point Trail for a sunset view of the gorge. Alternatively, hop on the Kaymoor Miners Trail for a hike while learning more about local mining history. Once the sun goes down, mosey on over to nearby Arrowhead Bike Farm for beers and brats at its restaurant, the Handlebar, or the women-owned brewery, Freefolk, just a few more minutes’ drive down the road. Things to do in New River Gorge National Park Views of the gorge and iconic New River Bridge can be seen on several hikes throughout the park. West Virginia Department of Tourism Hike in, near, or around the gorge If you only have time for one hike, opt for the Endless Wall Trail, an easy, 2.2-mile loop that takes hikers past a dramatic view of the New River Gorge and Bridge at a vista point called Diamond Point. It’s especially magical at sunrise, when fog and mist drift in and out the canyon. Other appealing hikes near Fayetteville and the Canyon Rim Visitor Center include: Long Point Trail (bikes allowed): This moderate, 3.2-mile-long out-and-back trail ends at the edge of a cliff overlooking the New River Gorge and the New River Bridge, on the opposite side of the canyon from Diamond Point. Kaymoor Miners Trail: Brace yourself for a strenuous 2-mile out-and-back route that heads down into the gorge to see remains of a former mine and mining town. For a longer hike, this trail overlaps with the 8.6-mile Kaymoor Trail. Bridge Trail: Beginning at a trailhead on Fayette Station Road, this 1.72-mile out-and-back trail is strenuous at times, as it meanders through shady forest, past some small waterfalls, and ends under the New River Bridge, offering a different perspective of the landmark. Scenic drive on Fayette Station Road Before the New River Bridge was completed in 1977, Fayette Station Road was the area’s main two-way road but is now a scenic drive popular among visitors. Full of hairpin turns and vista points, the road winds down to the bottom of the gorge, across a narrow bridge, and back up to the top. Take your time and make plenty of stops to enjoy the forest, river, and views of the iconic bridge along the way. White-water rafting on the New River If you can, don’t miss the chance to go white water rafting in “The New”. ACE Adventures Whether you’re experienced or not, those who are able won’t want to miss the chance to go white-water rafting. With class II–IV rapids, broken up by stretches of calm waters, the New River is excellent for anyone new to the sport. Rafters can choose between a half-day adventure on the Lower New River (class II–IV) or Upper New River (class II–III) or a full day that includes both parts of the river and lunch. Those with more experience should time their trip for “Gauley Season,” the six weeks after Labor Day in which the nearby dam-controlled Gauley River is open for white-water rafting. Gauley River trips are split between Upper Gauley, which runs through five class V+ rapids and a 14-foot waterfall, or the comparatively calmer Lower Gauley, which includes 13 miles of class III–V rapids. Seven outfitters run rafting trips to both. We’d recommend Ace Adventures or Adventures on the Gorge for anyone staying around Fayetteville. Jet boat tour from Hawk’s Nest State Park For another way to experience the New, take a quick drive to Hawk’s Nest State Park for a jet boat tour with New River Jet Boats. The 30-minute boat ride (plus a 15-minute drive, each way, from the park to the boat launch) takes passengers into the park, culminating with a stunning underside view of the New River Bridge. To make an adventure out of it, park your car at the trailhead for the Ansted Rail Trail and hike the two miles down to the boat launch. This relatively flat path follows a peaceful, shady creek on what used to be a functioning railroad and ends just a few yards away from the boat launch ticket counter. Rock climbing While most climbing routes are more intermediate-level difficulty, the New River Gorge has some easier routes for beginners too. Jessie Beck The New River Gorge is popular among avid climbers, thanks to the over 1,400 established routes throughout the area. Although the majority of them are best for intermediate climbers (the difficulty grade ranges between 5.10–5.12), there are a few easier options ideal for beginners. If you consider yourself a beginner, head out with an outfitter like Adventures on the Gorge, which runs half- and full-day climbing trips for adventures of all ages, levels, and abilities. For the experienced, we’d recommend a pit stop at Water Stone Outdoors for beta and local climbing guide books—as well as some great espresso drinks from its Range Coffee bar in the back of the store. Mountain biking Rather explore the trails on two wheels instead of two feet? Then grab a bike and hop on one of the area’s mountain bike trails, like the easy and scenic Long Point Trail, feature-filled Corona Trail, or the gorge-adjacent Kaymoor Trail. For all your bike needs—be it rentals, tours, gear, services, or even a tasty beverage after your ride—head over to Arrowhead Bike Farm. In addition to its full-service bike shop, it also has a restaurant, the Handlebar, which serves cold beers and warm brats (vegan options available), plus a campground and a small farm with a motley crew of resident goats. Where to eat and drink Some of the best places to eat in and around Fayetteville include: Wood Iron Eatery Open for breakfast and lunch with a variety of vegan, vegetarian, and meat options, Wood Iron Eatery is one of the best options for a fresh, healthy meal. Although it runs a limited, breakfast-only menu on Saturdays and Sundays, on weekdays, you won’t want to miss the selection of sweet and savory waffles, the “Big Green Bowl” salad, or heartier sandwiches and handhelds. Freefolk Brewery Just outside Fayetteville, the convivial Freefolk Brewery is a shining beacon of string lights on the edge of an otherwise lush, forest-lined byway. Inside, quirky pottery lines the walls behind the bar (think: ceramic mugs with faces molded onto them), while outside, a large yard with picnic tables invites visitors to linger on warm nights. Although its beers, which range from hoppy IPAs to tart farmhouse ales, are the stars here, don’t overlook the food menu either. The classic cheeseburger or house-made vegetarian beet burger are both delicious options.
