Heres Why Eating Healthy Is Getting More Expensive Stuff
Here’s Why Eating Healthy Is Getting More Expensive – Stuff https://collincountynewsonline.com/heres-why-eating-healthy-is-getting-more-expensive-stuff/

Fruits and vegetables have risen in price faster than unprocessed.
Bad news if you’re trying to eat healthier – the price of processed food is increasing at a slower rate than unprocessed options, such as fruit and vegetables.
Stats NZ’s latest food price index showed food prices lifted 8.3% in August compared with the same time a year earlier, the largest year-on-year increase since July 2009, when prices were up 8.4%.
Fruit and vegetable prices increased by 15% and meat, poultry, and fish prices increased by 7.6%, while bread and cereals increased by 7% over the year and preserved, prepared, and processed meat increased only by 6%.
Pastry was the only processed food that increased above the less processed options, with an increase of 23%.

Vegetables had the largest impact on the monthly rise, influenced by higher prices for tomatoes, capsicums, and cabbage.
Briar Mills, who is studying towards a master of science in human nutrition, and Sarah Asmussen, who is completing post-graduate work in advanced nutrition practice at Otago University, said price increases were smaller for most processed food products.
“Over the last year, there has been an increase in the cost of both processed and unprocessed foods,” Mills said.

Processed foods were foods that have been changed from their natural form, such as flour into a biscuit.
But food can be processed to different degrees. A whole pineapple could be unprocessed, but if it was cut into pieces, it would be minimally processed. If it was tinned, it would be processed, and if it was turned into sweetened pineapple juice, it would be classed as ultra-processed.
“Minimally processed foods are processed for safety or preservation, such as cooking chicken and heat-treating milk to make it safe, or freezing fruit and vegetables to increase shelf life,” Asmussen said.
In comparison, creating highly processed or ultra-processed foods often involves the addition of sugar, salt, and saturated fat, she said.
“The higher degree of processing often means the products have lots of calories but not many nutrients. High consumption of these can lead to an increased risk of non-communicable diseases like heart disease. Therefore, eating more whole foods and minimally processed foods, and less heavily processed foods, is recommended,” Mills said.
Mills said unprocessed foods were affected more significantly by Covid-19 lockdowns, labour shortages, the war in Ukraine, and extreme weather events, which were the main contributors to the rising cost of food, as the cost to produce it was greater than unprocessed foods.
The rising cost of living meant people would be reaching for cheaper, more processed foods.
“A lack of time can also lead people to opt for more convenient food options, which are often heavily processed and energy dense,” she said.
Mills said if some unprocessed foods were getting too expensive, sticking to minimally processed foods would offer nutrients.
“Frozen vegetables still contain the nutrients that fresh vegetables do and can be a cheap alternative.”
Growing your own fruit and vegetables would help you save, as well as planning meals ahead and buying in bulk.

The Cardinals were dead at halftime. They couldn’t get anything going.
Instead they hand the Raiders the largest blown lead in franchise history.
Kyler Murray’s incredible play at QB made the comeback possible.

How will the Bucs eff it up. Oh flub a basic snap a la USF last night. Gotcha. That’s good. Looking great O Line. Barely hanging on by a thread and getting mutilated in the run game. Ethereum Merge Hard Forks Reveal Competing Proof-Of-Work Projects Decrypt
Ethereum Merge Hard Forks Reveal Competing Proof-Of-Work Projects – Decrypt https://collincountynewsonline.com/ethereum-merge-hard-forks-reveal-competing-proof-of-work-projects-decrypt/
The Ethereum merge removed the network’s reliance on miners without a hitch, but the path forward for those that decided to stay with proof of work is not crystal clear.
Many Ethereum miners who wanted to keep mining joined a prominent faction led by Chandler Guo to create ETHPoW and ETHW. While their hard fork hit some speed bumps, it’s running and trading at $5.26, down 35% in the past 24 hours as of this writing, according to CoinMarketCap.
But before there was ETHPoW, there was EthereumFair, another faction committed to preserving the proof-of-work model for Ethereum with ETF, formerly ETHF. But EthereumFair has garnered only a fraction of the attention of EthereumPoW.
EthereumFair claims on Twitter that it was the first PoW token to become forked from Ethereum. The account, which was created in January 2020, has about 14 thousand followers. Despite a two year head start, that’s less than the Twitter account for EthPoW, which amassed just over 15 thousand followers since it was created in July.
EthereumFair is led by a group of Chinese miners, with its core documentation provided in the Chinese language. Only this weekend did organizers focus on creating Telegram groups for different languages.
Welcome to establish telegram groups in various languages, we will give incentives and support.
— EthereumFair(#ETF) #ETHPOW #ETHEREUMPOW (@EthereumFair) September 17, 2022
According to EthereumFair’s block explorer, ETF has 6.7 million total transactions and 1.8 million wallet addresses. The currency is currently trading at $6.43, down 30% in the past 24 hours as of this writing, according to CoinMarketCap.
By comparison, ETHW has logged 1.7 billion total transactions, with tokens held in 86.3 million addresses.
Meanwhile, Ethereum Classic, created back in 2015 during a separate fork, saw its hash rate spike following the merge as miners transitioned over to mining that currency as well, according to 2miners.com.
The most prominent exchange backer of ETF was Poloniex, which first announced that it would support EthereumFair “based on the market situation, consensus of users and the community.” Poloniex, which also renamed ETHF to ETF, subsequently added ETHW support as well.
Users that purchase ETF on Poloniex won’t have to pay any fees if they’re exchanging Tron’s USDD stablecoin for the cryptocurrency, which doesn’t apply to purchases made with other stablecoins including Tether’s USDT or Ethereum.
The exchange ranks 23rd on CoinMarketCap’s list of top exchanges, seeing $32 million in trading volume over the past 24 hours. The coin is also currently being traded on crypto exchanges Huobi and BitCoke.
Among the exchanges trading ETHW are OKX, XT.COM, Deepcoin, Bybit, and CoinW.

How To Protect Your Phone And Data Privacy At U.S. Customs The Washington Post
How To Protect Your Phone And Data Privacy At U.S. Customs – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-to-protect-your-phone-and-data-privacy-at-u-s-customs-the-washington-post/
International travelers may know U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can scroll through your phone in a “random search.” But new details paint a picture of broad and messy data collection that puts your privacy at risk.
Data copied from devices at entry points into the United States — including airports and border crossings — gets saved for 15 years in a database searchable by thousands of CBP employees without a warrant, The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell reported this week. The data includes contacts, call logs, messages and photos from phones, tablets and computers, according to CBP. It could also contain social media posts, medical and financial information, or internet browsing history, according to a report from the New York think tank Brennan Center for Justice.
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) wrote a Sept. 15 letter asking the commissioner of the CBP to stop allowing “indiscriminate rifling through Americans’ private records without suspicion of a crime.”
It’s unclear to what extent federal agents can use the copied data because there are few meaningful safeguards, said Saira Hussain, a staff attorney at the privacy rights nonprofit Electronic Frontier Foundation.
Hussain has argued in court that CBP’s current data collection practices violate Americans’ constitutional protections. Based on her interviews with search subjects, agents often profile people from Muslim or Muslim-adjacent communities, she said, but these searches impact people from “all walks of American life.”
“You don’t have to have committed a felony to want to keep some parts of your life private from meddling government agents,” said Nathan Freed Wessler, deputy project director of the Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project at the American Civil Liberties Union. “That could be medical diagnoses, mental health struggles, romantic associations, information about our children, you name it.”
A CBP spokesman said in a statement that the agency searches devices “in accordance with statutory and regulatory authorities” and that its guidelines make sure each search is “exercised judiciously, responsibly, and consistent with the public trust.”
Not keen on potentially opening your contacts, call logs and messages to thousands of government-employed strangers? Here’s what you can do before hitting customs:
Unlike other law enforcement, border authorities don’t need a warrant to search your device. They may conduct a basic search — in which they scroll through your device inspecting texts, photos or anything else they can easily access — even if they don’t suspect you of wrongdoing. But if an agent suspects you pose a “national security concern,” they can run an advanced search using a digital forensics tool to copy the data from your device.
How you prepare to cross the border with your devices depends on what risks you’re willing to tolerate, said Nathan Freed Wessler, deputy project director of the Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project at the American Civil Liberties Union.
If you’re more worried about agents rifling through your messages and photos in a basic search, removing files from your device would do the trick. If you’re a political dissident, human rights activist, journalist or anyone else looking to avoid government surveillance or overreach, your focus will likely be preventing agents from accessing your device at all.
If you’re an American citizen, you can refuse to unlock your devices for CBP agents and still enter the country. (This may not be clear from the information sheet agents are supposed to give you during the search, which says the process is “mandatory.”)
If you decline to cooperate, CBP can hold onto your device. It says detention generally shouldn’t last longer than five days, but Hussain said she’s spoken with people who didn’t get their devices back for months.
Noncitizens, meanwhile, aren’t guaranteed entry if they decline to unlock their devices.
Travel with few devices and turn them off beforehand
The fewer devices you travel with, the fewer opportunities for searches, Wessler said. Consider adopting a separate phone or laptop for traveling without sensitive data saved.
Power down devices before going through customs. This guards against advanced search tools that may bypass the screen lock on devices left powered on, according to EFF.
Encrypted data gets scrambled into a format unreadable to people who don’t have the code — in this case, a password. iOS, Android, Windows and MacOS all come with built in full device encryption options.
Most contemporary smartphones are encrypted by default (make sure you lock your device). Here are general directions for Windows and MacOS.
The quickest methods to unlock your device — such face ID or a weak passcode — are also the least secure. If you decline to unlock your device for a search, CBP may try to unlock it themselves, Wessler said. A strong password with both letters and numbers, or a passcode with at least six digits will make this harder.
CBP guidelines instruct agents to review only the data that’s stored on your device itself — not all the information apps like Facebook and Gmail send to the cloud. If you consent to a search, flipping your device into airplane mode will limit the inspection to what’s saved or cached.
You may choose to move your data to a cloud storage provider — such as iCloud, Google or Microsoft OneDrive — and then wipe or factory reset your device. This would protect your data from a basic visual search. But be aware: Most methods of file deletion leave behind traces a forensic search would uncover. Furthermore, walking through customs with a blank device could arouse suspicion and make you more likely to become a target, Hussain said.
If you’ve got sensitive photos, messages or other data easily visible on your device, move it somewhere private, such as a hidden or password-protected folder. (I’m begging you not to accidentally show nudes to a customs agent — or anyone else. Here’s how to hide them.)
Consider where you enter the country
Different states have different laws governing what CBP can inspect at U.S. entry points. In Arizona, for example, CBP can only search devices without a warrant if they’re looking for specific digital contraband. If you want to protect your privacy, it might be worth flying into a state with more stringent boundaries for CBP.

Tech News: 5 Things To Know In Australia Today – Gizmodo Australia https://collincountynewsonline.com/tech-news-5-things-to-know-in-australia-today-gizmodo-australia-5/
Happy Monday. A few things happened over the weekend, so let’s get up to speed before you start your week.
1. Uber was hacked and it doesn’t look good
Uber has been hacked and boy does it look bad. The hacker, which boasted of their achievements via Telegram this week, claims to be an 18-year-old who allegedly gained such liberal access to the tech giant’s network that they were able to Slack the Uber workforce and post a picture of a dick on the company’s internal websites. Here’s everything we know.
2. Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory reaches massive milestone
Tesla opened a Gigafactory in Austin, Texas back in April. That factory has now built its 10,000th Model Y electric SUV. Brought to our attention by Electrek, it doesn’t exactly give us the current production rate, but it is likely more than one thousand vehicles per week that are being produced by the Elon Musk company. The Model Y was recently crowned Australia’s safest car.

3. SpaceX testing Starlink Internet in Antarctica using space lasers
Still in Elon Musk world, Starlink has made its way to the southernmost continent, beaming down broadband internet to a research centre in Antarctica. McMurdo Station, a research outpost run by the U.S. Antarctic Program, is testing out a Starlink terminal to enhance its connectivity. McMurdo Station conducts scientific research on geology, astrophysics and climate systems, among other things. The research centre hosts close to 1,000 people during Antarctica’s summer season.
4. Bitcoin country El Salvador’s credit tumbled again
Remember when El Salvador thought it was a great idea to make bitcoin legal tender? Well, things are going well (they’re not). Credit agency Fitch downgraded El Salvador’s debt rating from CCC to CC around 14 months after the company’s tech bro president and budding authoritarian, Nayib Bukele, made Bitcoin a nationally recognised legal currency. CC, for context, represents Fitch’s fourth worst credit rating and is seven ticks below the AAA gold standard.
5. Google sends blogger nearly $US250,000 by mistake
As reported by Business Insider, Google accidentally sent a quarter of a million dollars to a blogger and security engineer, who says he waited almost a month to hear back from the company. According to the man’s tweet, Google had ‘randomly’ transferred him $US249,999 (around $370,5000). He is a security engineer who carries out “bug bounty hunting” work for organisations like Google. But this payment doesn’t reflect the jobs.
It’s been a little over 3 weeks since Google randomly sent me $249,999 and I still haven’t heard anything on the support ticket. Is there any way we could get in touch @Google?

Moratorium On New Gaming Machines In Hotels And Taverns Across Alice Springs Mirage News
Moratorium On New Gaming Machines In Hotels And Taverns Across Alice Springs – Mirage News https://collincountynewsonline.com/moratorium-on-new-gaming-machines-in-hotels-and-taverns-across-alice-springs-mirage-news/
New gaming machine licenses at community venues in Alice Springs have been suspended for nine months as the Territory Labor Government moves to strengthen the application process.
The moratorium follows a concerted campaign by residents that included hundreds of submissions objecting to plans to add 60 gaming machines to hotels and taverns in the town.
This means applications currently in train for Uncles Tavern, Mercure Alice Springs Resort, Todd Tavern, and Gap View Hotel will not be considered until June 2023.
Lasseters Casino has a separate, longstanding agreement with the NT Government that will not be affected by the decision.
Further harm minimisation policies and practices will be considered during the moratorium, including improving the public interest and community impact assessment processes.
The Government will spend $1 million on research this financial year towards building knowledge and informing policies about gambling-related harm.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Racing, Gaming and Licensing Chansey Paech:
“The Territory Labor Government knows that problem gambling creates a significant public health risk to communities across the NT, especially for our most vulnerable Territorians.
“People in Alice Springs have voiced their concerns loudly and clearly, and we are now taking the time to make the application process more robust and in line with community expectations.
“This move is part of our Government’s wider policy reform to minimise gambling-related harm because it is in the best interests of Territorians; and it is what Territorians want.”

Celebrated Texas jewelry star Kendra Scott’s ability to juggle a work-life balance is seriously impressive. The founder of her namesake billion-dollar brand is a newlywed, about to drop her first memoir, Born to Shine: Do Good, Find Your Joy, and Build a Life You Love, and will be returning as a guest shark on the new season of Shark Tank.
Between a dizzying schedule of managing her brand, philanthropic efforts, a multi-state book tour, Shark Tank duties, and nurturing a new blended family of eight, we wonder when the Austin-based entrepreneur has time to breathe.
Apparently, queso, margaritas, and finding joy in the little things fuel the entrepreneur to keep going. Scott also credits her marriage to Thomas Evans (her wedding ring is the one piece of jewelry she never takes off) and the relationship with her family, including three sons — Kade, Beck, and Grey — as foundations of her success.
And while her jewelry has been a must-have accessory for over two decades, her first venture into the literary world has been one of vulnerability and determination.
She’s bringing her book tour to the Kendra Scott boutique in Southlake Town Square at 1 pm Sunday, September 18; tickets ($35) are available here.
Ahead of her appearance in DFW, CultureMap sat down with Scott to get the exclusive on her next chapter.
CultureMap: How long did it take you to write Born to Shine?
Kendra Scott: It took a little over two years from when I decided to write the book, but really I have been writing this book for years. I never realized that my journal notes would someday turn into a book. It has been a long process, but after 20 years of our company being in business — it was honestly the perfect time to write this book.
CM: How did you juggle writing, managing the business and being a working mom?
KS: You know, it is always a challenge. If anyone tells you it is easy, and they have it figured out, I think they are lying. I wrote this during the pandemic, so I was home working with the support system of my closest people with me. All of our meetings were virtual, so it allowed me to have time for reflection.
I had also just stepped down as CEO and could just focus on being chairwoman, designer, and founder. I was able to focus more on our philanthropic efforts, like our school at the University of Texas (Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute), and concentrate on writing this book. It is something that I have always wanted to do.
CM: How personal do you get in the book?
KS: I get very vulnerable in the book and I feel that there is power in vulnerability. I hope that being vulnerable will allow other women or people to share their failures, successes, and ups and downs and be authentic.
I also hope that the stories of my childhood, marriage, divorce, starting a business and failing at a business — all of those things are part of what makes me who I am. In the book, I talk about the power of gemstones. Gems all have veins that are considered imperfections, but really it is what makes them beautiful.
CM: Was there anything that you wrote but then changed your mind about?
KS: I pulled out the entire first chapter, and I wasn’t going to put it in there. My publisher, who is also my editor, told me that the chapter was great and that she thought it should be chapter one.
It made me realize that I had to be honest because the book starts in a tough place but then takes readers on an unbelievable ride.
CM: Can fans look forward to more books in the future?
KS: You know, I thought about this. Now that this book is out there in the world, I don’t think it will be the last one. It is a different way to be creative, and I think I have other stories to tell.
I would love to do a children’s book someday. My oldest son was one when I started this company; now, he is 20, so he has grown along with the business. Now I have a nine-year-old, and I’ve always read to him. I really hope that children’s books will be in my future.
CM: You are returning to Shark Tank for Season 14. How was the experience this time around?
KS: I absolutely love being on Shark Tank. I will be flying to Los Angeles for the premiere with all the other guest sharks on September 23, and it is exciting because there has never been a live premiere.
Nothing inspires me more than other entrepreneurs. There are long days on set, but they go by quickly because it gets me pumped to meet other entrepreneurs. Many of these people were thinking of ideas before the pandemic, and the downtime during the pandemic gave them the opportunity to put their ideas into action. I get to witness just a little of that in the tank – it is so fun.
CM: You have a lot going on, but is there anything else fans can look forward to before the end of the year?
KS: We just launched engagement rings and a whole bridal collection which is so exciting. We are expanding into other fine jewelry categories, including diamonds and gold and are adding more customization options than ever before.
Scott Brothers, the line I created with my boys during the pandemic, is also expanding. It is so fun that our male customers who were here to buy for the women in their lives can now buy something for themselves. We also just expanded into watches, so a lot is going on.
If you think about it, it took Ralph Lauren 25 years to expand into other categories. Our company has been around for 20 years, so I really like that the next phase of Kendra Scott will be so fun and exciting. From a philanthropic standpoint, we have given over $50 million since 2010 to women’s and children’s charities. We are, in many ways, a philanthropic organization within a brand. That is how we measure success, so I can not wait to announce our charitable efforts in the coming years.
We have a strong foundation and know what we represent and stand for — I feel like the best is yet to come.

Zelenskyy Promises No lull In Taking Back Ukrainian Towns 69News WFMZ-TV
Zelenskyy Promises No ‘lull’ In Taking Back Ukrainian Towns – 69News WFMZ-TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/zelenskyy-promises-no-lull-in-taking-back-ukrainian-towns-69news-wfmz-tv/
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) —
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised his country there would be no letup in the counteroffensive that has reclaimed towns and cities from Russian troops, as shelling continued Sunday across a wide stretch of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy ran through a list of towns that Ukraine has taken back in its lightning push across the northeast.
“Maybe now it seems to some of you that after a series of victories we have a certain lull,” he said in his nightly video address. “But this is not a lull. This is preparation for the next series… Because Ukraine must be free — all of it.”
Ukraine’s military command said its forces secured the eastern bank of the Oskil River on Saturday. The river, which flows south from Russia into Ukraine, had been a natural break in the newly emerged front lines since Kyiv’s counteroffensive began.
As Russian shells hit towns and cities over the weekend, the British defense ministry warned that Moscow is likely to increase attacks on civilian targets as it suffers battlefield defeats.
“In the last seven days, Russia has increased its targeting of civilian infrastructure even where it probably perceives no immediate military effect,” the ministry said in an online briefing. “As it faces setbacks on the front lines, Russia has likely extended the locations it is prepared to strike in an attempt to directly undermine the morale of the Ukrainian people and government.”
Russian fire killed four medics attempting to evacuate a psychiatric hospital in the Kharkiv region on Saturday, said governor Oleh Syniehubov. Two patients were wounded in the attack in Strelecha, he said.
Overnight shelling also hit a hospital in Mykolaiv, a significant Black Sea port, regional governor Vitaliy Kim said. And five people had died over the past day in Russian attacks in the Donetsk region, one of two Ukrainian regions that Russia recognizes as sovereign states, governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said.
The separatist forces that control much of Donetsk said Ukrainian shelling of a prisoner-of-war colony in Olenivka killed one prisoner and injured four. More than 50 POWs were reported killed in a July attack on the Olenivka prison; Russian and Ukrainian authorities blame each other.
A Washington-based think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, said Russian forces in Donetsk continue to conduct “meaningless operations” on villages as opposed to reinforcing the front line.
A top Vatican envoy and his entourage came under fire as they were distributing humanitarian supplies in Ukraine, the Vatican news service said on Sunday. It reported no injuries.
The incident took place near the city of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday, and forced Vatican Almoner Cardinal Konrad Krajewski and others to take cover.
“For the first time in my life, I didn’t know where to run. Because it is not enough to run, you have to know where to go,” said the Polish-born cardinal, whose office makes charitable contributions in the pope’s name.
Three people were wounded in nighttime shelling of Nikopol, across the river from Europe’s largest nuclear power station, said regional governor Valentyn Reznichenko. The six-reactor Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was captured by Russian forces in March, but is operated by Ukrainian engineers. Its last reactor was switched off a week ago after repeated power failures because shelling put crucial safety systems at risk.
Meanwhile, prosecutors in Kharkiv are accusing Russia of torturing civilians in one village that was recently freed. In an online statement, they said they found a basement where Russian forces allegedly tortured prisoners in Kozacha Lopan, near the border with Russia.
In images they released, they showed a Russian military TA-57 telephone with additional wires and alligator clips attached to it. Ukrainian officials have accused Russian forces of using the Soviet-era radio telephones as a power source to shock prisoners during interrogation. It was not immediately possible to verify the Ukrainians’ claims.

Living To Mark Your 90th Birthday – The Standard https://collincountynewsonline.com/living-to-mark-your-90th-birthday-the-standard/

Queen Elizabeth II, who is being buried today, died aged 96. Her hubby, Prince Philip died last year at 99. Being in the Royal Family means access to the best lifestyle, diet and medical care and with it, a long life.
The Royals have another advantage- genetics: The Queen Mother closed her gate in 2002 at 101 years. The average age of a Royal is 91 and “no one can live long without first having won the genetic lottery at birth,” notes Jay Olshansky, Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of Illinois at Chicago in a 2021 article in The Conversation.
The other ruling classes with such longevity are presidents. Founding President Jomo Kenyatta died at 89, President Moi died at 95, President Mwai Kibaki at 90. The same can be discerned among US presidents-they live several decades longer than their subjects.
But can an ordinary citizen without the trappings of State largesse also live that long?
Well, it is possible, though uncommon. Take James Mburu Kinani. He is 90 but still drives along the Nakuru-Naivasha highway, his 82-year-old wife, Magdalene, in tow.
How to live, die in ripe old age
Sleeping for a ‘few hours’ is nothing to be proud of
Findings suggest drinking lots of tea, which is rich in antioxidants, can be part of a healthy diet.
Shot of life: Billions spent on health sector now paying off
“I enjoy driving in the company of my wife, as we share stories of our happy marriage and children,” narrates Kinani from Langalanga Estate, Nakuru County.
The couple- whose lives revolve around their dairy, crop and poultry farming- attribute their longevity to good health, balanced diet and regular medical check-ups.
“Farming is the source of our solace. It feels good collecting eggs and feeding on fresh food from our farm,” says Kinani.
The couple wakes up at 9am and goes to bed at around 9pm. Their diet comprises meat, green leafy vegetables, milk, and potatoes.
“I enjoy eating meals prepared by my wife, even though she is a bit slow. We also do not suffer any stress,” adds Kinani.
Kinani was diagnosed with arthritis and hypertension 30 years ago, but “though my husband suffers chronic diseases, he remains strong because I am able to seek quality medical care,” Magdalene says.
Magdalene argues that a long lifespan is not unique to her or any race, but with a strong socio-economic support system from family, social networks and God’s favour, one can live long like Queen Elizabeth II.
Jemimah Nyabogi, 98, from Bomanyara village in Mugirango South, in Kisii, has lived long enough to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jemimah Nyabogi, right, has lived long enough to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. [File, Standard]
The mother of eight walks without support, has a clear vision and hears without asking a speaker to shout.
“Living to see my third generation is a blessing,” she says adding that she rarely gets sick. “I am happy my children continue to support me in my old age.”
Her best meal is matoke (bananas), traditional vegetables, brown ugali and sour milk.
Her last born, Samson Omwoyo, says: “I ensure my mother is free from stress, feeds on a balanced diet and enjoys enough sleep.”
Chadwick Digo, a nutritionist and a lecturer at Kabete National Polytechnic, attributes longevity to a healthy diet that is safe and with all nutrients and the “environment where food is produced, transported, cooked and served is key. For instance, production of food in a sewer risks diseases and premature deaths.”
The nutritionist advises the elderly to consume moderated fiber diet, low calories and spices. “We advise them to consume food laced with natural spices because at advanced ages, taste buds tend to fade,” he explains.
The aforementioned Prof Olshansky in his article, Long live the monarchy!, says the Royals, unlike ordinary mortals, avoid behaviour that shorten life as “it is a lot easier to shorten life than extend it – but among the most well known are smoking, eating in excess and lack of exercise.”
Prof Olshansky also cites the influence of poverty and privilege as “being born into or living in poverty has been shown to be one of the most important factors that shortens lifespan – and it is here that perhaps the royals have the greatest advantage.”
Prof Olshansky also adds that “differences in duration of life are first defined by genetics, then heavily mediated by education, income, health care, clean water, food, indoor living and working environments, and the overall effects of high or low socioeconomic status.”
Dr Muthoni Gichu, a medical gerontologist in Nairobi elaborates how imbalance in the production of cells in human bodies results in general ageing. And old age, she adds, is not a disease, but a risk factor for diabetes, hypertension, chronic condition of the lung and heart, arthritis and certain cancers.
Dr Muthoni Gichu. [File, Standard]
Other health conditions common among the elderly include; hearing loss, vision, cognitive decline, dementia, frailty, falls, sarcopenia (progressive loss of muscle mass and strength) and incontinence.
“We need to explore bio-psychosocial health models, for example, somebody who has lived an active life, and a nutritious diet cannot be compared with someone who has malnutrition or someone who has lost social network,” said Dr Gichu.
Other experiences common in older persons include; loneliness, social isolation, malnutrition and polypharmacy (use of multiple medicines) which contributes to health complications.
Dr Gichu reckons that majority of people are not prepared for old age or healthy aging and most lack know-how on navigating old age. There is also a negative attitude (ageism) towards the old as the “population feels the older population is a burden.”
Nevertheless, the elderly also stigmatise themselves in ageing narrative and Dr Gichu says health aging should not be handled at 60, but from birth.
Slowing ageing, says Dr Gichu, includes having social contacts and engagement, early childhood experiences, diet, physical exercise, diet and stopping smoking and low alcohol intake.
For older persons, she calls for targeted approach and integrated, person-centred care. On average, men age faster than women, according to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census report: Analytical Report on Older and vulnerable population.
The report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) released this April reveals that the country has 2.7 million older persons.
About 1.5 million (54.6 percent) were female, while 1.2 million (45.4percent) were male. At least 84 percent of older persons lived in rural areas, while 16 percent resided in urban areas, but “the rate of decline was more pronounced among males.
Abdulkadir Amin Awes, the KNBS Director of Population and Social Statistics says counties with higher number of the aged have advanced medical services compared to those with low numbers.
Improved lifestyle which entails a balanced diet was also factored in the study besides social economic status and genetics. “People who eat a balanced diet, access quality healthcare and do physical exercise were found to live longer, but risk factors to early death include food insecurity, lack of medication, vehicle accidents and excess consumption of alcohol,” said Awes.
He added that genetics, pre-exposing some people to diseases like cancer and diabetes, were likely to carry to their offspring, affecting life spans.
But environmental pollution is a likely health hazard among urbanites compared to people living in rural areas.
Arizona State Parts With Herm Edwards: Sun Devils Coach Out Three Games Into Fifth Season CBS Sports
Arizona State Parts With Herm Edwards: Sun Devils Coach Out Three Games Into Fifth Season – CBS Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/arizona-state-parts-with-herm-edwards-sun-devils-coach-out-three-games-into-fifth-season-cbs-sports/
Arizona State and coach Herm Edwards chose to part ways Sunday less than 24 hours after the Sun Devils fell 30-21 to Eastern Michigan to continue an underwhelming 1-2 start in Edwards’ fifth season. Despite a 26-20 record that did not include a losing season, Edwards was embattled entering the 2022 campaign with Arizona State under NCAA investigation. The school did not announce who will takeover the program on an interim basis.
“We have made the decision to make a change in the leadership of our football program effective immediately. By mutual agreement, Coach Edwards and I have determined that he will relinquish duties as our head coach,” said Arizona State vice president of athletics Ray Anderson. “At the core of this is doing what is best for our current team, staff and university. I understand the frustrations out there. We must do better and that starts with our decision today.”
Edwards’ departure comes after Arizona State president Michael Crow publicly criticized the state of the program in a conversation with USA Today: “Like anything, when you’re in combat, you support your officers. And we’re in combat. But we’ll have to decide where we’re going from here and decide what the issues are and see where we’re headed.”
Hired as a “head coach who serves as CEO” overseeing what Arizona State referred to as an “NFL approach” to build a college football program, Edwards was placed in charge of a “New Leadership Model” that was supposed to utilize a “general manager structure” to take the team to new heights.
Instead, the Sun Devils were rather mediocre on the field finishing one game above .500 in their three full seasons under Edwards with a 1-2 record in bowl games. Edwards also created significant controversy off the field as the program stands accused of hosting prospects during the extended recruiting dead period enacted for safety reasons during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Multiple coaches have departed since the investigation began, including former recruiting coordinator/defensive coordinator Antonio Pierce and ex-offensive coordinator Zak Hill. Wide receivers coach Prentice Gill, secondary coach Chris Hawkins and tight ends coach Adam Breneman also departed the program amid the inquiry.
Crow expressed frustration with the slow pace that the investigation that began in June 2021 was moving.
“I know that we haven’t, out of my office, been very vocal about anything because we’re asked not to say anything by the NCAA,” Crow told The Athletic. “And the NCAA is moving in deliberate fashion. I don’t believe they’ve even interviewed our remaining coaches yet.”
The leadership model that Edwards sold the public when he was hired didn’t resonate with recruits either, as evidenced by the Sun Devils’ national ranking in the 247Sports Composite since he took over the program.

The Sun Devils never finished in the final AP Top 25 under Edwads’ watch, and was 1-2 in bowl games with the one victory coming in the 2019 Sun Bowl over a Florida State team that had recently fired former coach Willie Taggart.
Edwards came to Arizona State after a long career as an NFL coach and television analyst. He was 54-74 in eight seasons with the New York Jets (2001-05) and Kansas City Chiefs (2006-08). Anderson, who hired Edwards at ASU, was his agent during his NFL coaching tenure.
Tamas Kadar: CEO At SEON Comments On Fraud In The Metaverse Latest NFT Fintech Trends Crowdfund Insider Crowdfund Insider
Tamas Kadar: CEO At SEON Comments On Fraud In The Metaverse, Latest NFT, Fintech Trends – Crowdfund Insider – Crowdfund Insider https://collincountynewsonline.com/tamas-kadar-ceo-at-seon-comments-on-fraud-in-the-metaverse-latest-nft-fintech-trends-crowdfund-insider-crowdfund-insider/
We recently connected with Tamas Kadar, CEO and co-founder at SEON., which aims to harness the power of AI to protect your business from fraud, get a 360° view of customers, and increase conversion rates.
Kadar talked about the latest issues involving e-commerce fraud. His company just closed a $94 million Series B round in April and is focused on expanding their fraud prevention services for U.S. businesses.
During our conversation, Tamas talked about fraud in the Metaverse, the latest in crypto-related developments, NFTs, blockchain & fraud, and BNPL fraud.
Our discussion with Tamas Kadar is shared below.
Crowdfund Insider: Crypto exchanges are already considered high risk. What are some ways companies are combating crypto exchange fraud?
Tamas Kadar: At SEON, we understand the risks of cryptocurrency exchange fraud better than most. Along with my co-founder, Bence Jendruszak, I started a cryptocurrency exchange some years ago, while at university. Not long after, the exchange was targeted by fraudsters, which led to us building the first iteration of what would later become SEON.
In the years since, crypto exchange fraud has become even more rife. For the most part, fraudsters use stolen credit card numbers to purchase cryptocurrencies, which triggers chargeback requests from the legitimate cardholder. Fraudsters also use fake IDs to bypass any KYC checks that might otherwise stop them.
Crypto exchange platforms need to have protocols in place, which allow them to:
● Safely onboard genuine users
● Process fiat payments to buy crypto
● Secure storage and transactions
One of the best ways to do this is to improve the ID & verification techniques within the sign-up process. However, it’s important to do this in a way that doesn’t add friction to the customer journey. This is often easier said than done, especially as crypto users tend to not like giving away personal data as it goes against some of the sector’s core principles.
That’s where data enrichment tools come in. Such tools allow crypto exchanges to get more info about their customers, without having to ask for it. Data enrichment solutions, such as the one we offer at SEON, allow companies to get a full picture of who their users are before they sign up, and in doing so, can identify risky actors before they’re able to commit fraud.
Crowdfund Insider: How is the metaverse creating new forms of fraud and deception?
Tamas Kadar: There is always a new opportunity to scam, and fraudsters are always ready to figure out how – especially when it involves a monetary transaction. As such, the metaverse offers an abundance of potential new avenues for fraud. Primarily, many metaverse solutions are vulnerable as they’re unable to stop people establishing more than one account.
Having multiple accounts on a metaverse platform allows fraudsters to take advantage of ‘free credit’, discounts or money back promotions designed for new users. Simply put, this may seem like an easy and even innocent loophole, but setting up multiple accounts to benefit from promotions is still fraud.
Likewise, metaverse platforms must watch out for influencer fraud, which has previously affected social media platforms, like Twitter. This type of fraud can result in people following fraudulent links or entering sensitive data to enter promotions they believe to be endorsed by trusted or well-known, established users.
Crowdfund Insider: New tech brings opportunistic bad actors. What are the risks of NFT fraud and how do you stop it?
Tamas Kadar: It’s still only early days in the world of NFTs, but you’re beginning to see the size and scope of the nascent sector’s fraud problem. NFT fraud can take many forms, whether it’s people minting artwork they have no legal ownership of, to laundering money through fake NFT sales. Sadly, there’s no ‘silver’ bullet solution on offer to fix all of these issues.
Preventing NFT fraud requires action from all involved parties. For one, end users need to become even more aware about the risks of fraud and ensure they’re always doing their due diligence before purchasing NFTs. Similarly, companies dealing with NFTs should look to refortify fraud prevention protocols to ensure they’re getting the best protection.
In practice, this can mean layering existing defence systems with things like two-factor authentication and machine learning to boot out inauthentic users, bots and high-risk ‘online personalities’. As with the metaverse, enabling browser and device fingerprinting can also make a huge difference in aiding this effort.
Crowdfund Insider: Why is money laundering a problem in crypto?
Tamas Kadar: It’s a big problem, and cryptocurrency firms are now under increasing pressure to meet new anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. If they fail to do so, companies in the sector are liable for big fines, legal issues, and damage to their business reputation. The good news is that transaction monitoring solutions now offer a way to mitigate the risk.
Full end-to-end fraud tools, like that provided by SEONallow companies in the crypto space to monitor user and transaction data. In turn, this data can be logged, scored via fraud detection risk rules, and used to decide if a business should flag the account as a potential risk, before automating next steps. In fact, our solution is able to check an individual’s digital footprint in real time, analyzing more than 50 social and online platforms to ensure new accounts can be verified effectively.
Crowdfund Insider: BNPL is attracting the attention of cybercriminals and fraudsters. What is the best way for merchants to reduce the risk of BNPL fraud?
Tamas Kadar: BNPL companies inherently take a risk with every new customer they onboard. Like with crypto, fraud in this area can take many forms, but there are some simple measures, which can be implemented to reduce its success. As with everything else, gathering data during the onboarding stage makes fraud prevention swifter and simpler.
Most BNPL companies probably already perform basic KYC checks and fast credit scoring. However, it’s important to move to more robust tools like device fingerprinting, IP address checks and velocity rules. I’d also recommend that companies take advantage of digital footprint analysis, which allows them to find out a wealth of information without any additional friction.
Finally, considering recent measures, it’s probably now time for companies to go even further and to utilise data enrichment solutions to help them build more complete pictures of users, without adding extra friction to the onboarding process. In doing so, companies are able to get more information about their customers from basic points of information.
All New Weapons In Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 Attack Of The Fanboy
All New Weapons In Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 – Attack Of The Fanboy https://collincountynewsonline.com/all-new-weapons-in-fortnite-chapter-3-season-4-attack-of-the-fanboy/
Fortnite is a live-service game that provides new weapons and gadgets with every season. Since Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 is officially live, there are some brand new weapons to enjoy. Here are all of the new weapons in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4.
A new liquid metal called chrome has entered Fortnite and infected some of the guns. The first gun ruined, or enhanced, by chrome is the EvoChrome Shotgun. The EvoChrome Shotgun has a wide-spread shot but is very powerful at close range. Next up is the EvoChrome Burst Rifle. This new rifle is a two-shot burst weapon that, like the shotgun, can be devastating if you land your shots.
Both the EvoChrome Shotgun and the EvoChrome Burst Rifle have the ability to evolve, or become upgraded versions of themselves, with use. All you need to do to upgrade these weapons is deal damage to opponents and get kills with the weapon, which will also help you grind XP.
The EvoChrome Burst Rifle and the EvoChrome Shotgun can easily be found in chrome chests which are easily found at the new POIs, which happen to be some of the best drop sites in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4.

ApeCoin (APE) Shows Signs Of Recovery But Mini-Rally Could Be Short-Lived NewsBTC
ApeCoin (APE) Shows Signs Of Recovery, But Mini-Rally Could Be Short-Lived – NewsBTC https://collincountynewsonline.com/apecoin-ape-shows-signs-of-recovery-but-mini-rally-could-be-short-lived-newsbtc/
ApeCoin has had a long and complex history. When it was first released on March 17, it was immediately put to the test by the same market forces that were responsible for the general crypto market’s slump.
The coin’s price has broken through the resistance of a head-and-shoulders pattern, rising to a new all-time high of $5.63. This may portend an impending upswing, but technical signs are pointing in the opposite direction.
Overall, both bulls and bears have been able to make little gains in APE coin, making the overall trend neutral. There is a double bottom pattern on the coin as well. This pattern could foretell a continuation of the current downward trend.
ApeCoin: Robust Buy Signals Likely
However, this downward tendency has not materialized, yet. The current APE coin mini-rally may be a short-lived upsurge following the decline that began on September 13.
There have been double bottoms and single bottom reversals in the price of APE coin recently. Bearish feeling among investors can only be reversed if the price is able to sustain itself at the 78.60 percent fib level. The result may be more robust buy signals for market participants.
We anticipate that APE’s price will rise when the crypto market recovers alongside the broader financial sector. And that’s if the cryptocurrency market can ignore the impending bad CPI news and interest rate increase.
The value of alternative cryptocurrencies like APE coin is highly correlated with Bitcoin’s market price. This coefficient is now at 0.73 as of this writing. A high degree of correlation between the two currencies indicates this.
Short-Term Performance: Finding Support
The short-term performance of the ApeCoin is “acceptable,” but only with access to real-time data. As of this writing, the cryptocurrency is trading above the 78.60 Fib level and attempting to find support there. Taking the coin’s track record into account, this may just be a momentary victory.
The APE coin’s value will rise as a result of a general uptick in the economy and financial markets. Critical aid can be found between $4.24 and $4.60. Both the price drops and price increases that the coin has seen have been maintained and sustained by these two factors.
The $4.60 support level is where the price can find a floor before falling to the $4.24 area. However, the recovery of APE coin may fail if bears also break through the $4.24 support.
However, recent market data indicates that APE currency is showing signs of recovery. At the 1-hour time frame, the coin has firmly established above the 78.60 fib level. As the cost levels off, dealers and investors may gain confidence.

Will You Need A Polio Vaccine Booster As Concerns Rise In U.S.? Heres What Chicagos Top Doc Said NBC Chicago
Will You Need A Polio Vaccine Booster As Concerns Rise In U.S.? Here’s What Chicago’s Top Doc Said – NBC Chicago https://collincountynewsonline.com/will-you-need-a-polio-vaccine-booster-as-concerns-rise-in-u-s-heres-what-chicagos-top-doc-said-nbc-chicago/
Local officials are monitoring the spread of polio amid growing national concerns, leaving some wondering what measures will be used to curb the spread of the virus, including the possibility of polio vaccine boosters.
New York declared a state of emergency Sept. 9 to boost vaccination efforts after polio was detected in wastewater in four counties in the New York area, as well as New York City itself.
Local officials have stressed that the risk to Chicago remains low thanks to an overall vaccination rate above 95%. Polio immunizations are grouped with other childhood vaccinations and are required to enroll in public school.
According to New York health officials, several area counties have polio vaccination rates below 65%, with a statewide rate just below 80%.
While some New Yorkers are currently being recommended to receive a single lifetime booster shot of the polio vaccine, there is currently no need to seek out a polio vaccine in Chicago if you received all of your childhood vaccinations.
“There’s no recommendation at this point to get a booster or vaccine for polio if you have had all of your regular childhood vaccines,” Dr. Isaac Shinai, a medical director at the Chicago Department of Public Health who oversees COVID-19 laboratory surveillance and testing, said.
Shinai said the city will also utilize wastewater surveillance in monitoring polio, which emerged as a helpful tool in several cities worldwide in the effort to monitor the progression of local COVID-19 transmission.
Local
Wastewater surveillance began in New York after an unvaccinated man contracted the virus in July and later suffered from paralysis. Prior to the man’s infection, it was the nation’s first case of polio in almost 10 years.
With the recent emergency declaration in New York and local health experts officially monitoring the virus, here’s everything you need to know about finding out your polio vaccine status in Illinois:
Is The Polio Vaccine Required?
According to research from NBC News, most Americans were vaccinated against the virus in early childhood. Kindergarten vaccination rates for polio have hovered around 95% since at least the 2011-12 school year.
That’s because polio vaccines are required for children entering kindergarten in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, though states allow medical exemptions and, in some cases, religious or philosophical exemptions as well.
But there’s no federal database of vaccination records. So if you’re unsure whether you were fully vaccinated against polio, how you retrieve your records depends on where you got your immunizations.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests asking parents or caregivers, doctors or public health clinics you visited as a child, or previous employers that required immunizations. Schools may also keep records for a couple of years after students graduate.
You can also request records from the health department of the state where you were vaccinated, but the systems for storing and enabling access to that information vary.
While many states allow you to request records through online forms or mobile apps, or to immediately search for records through online portals, Illinois is not one of them. Though residents in Illinois can request their vaccination records, it can take up to a month to process.
How to Request Your Polio Vaccination Record if You Live in Illinois
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health residents must complete an Immunization Records Request, and then submit it using an online form.
“Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing,” the IDPH form says.
For more information about Illinois Comprehensive Automated Immunization Registry Exchange, visit the IDPH website.
Whistleblower Claims May Not Free Elon Musk From His Twitter Hook The Guardian
Whistleblower Claims May Not Free Elon Musk From His Twitter Hook – The Guardian https://collincountynewsonline.com/whistleblower-claims-may-not-free-elon-musk-from-his-twitter-hook-the-guardian/
As the Twitter whistleblower Peiter Zatko was telling US lawmakers of “egregious” security failings at the company last Tuesday, shareholders in the social media platform overwhelmingly voted to hand those problems over to someone else: Elon Musk.
It is unlikely that the Tesla CEO, who owns more than 9% of Twitter and agreed to buy the company in April, was among the 99% of voting shareholders who backed that $44bn (£38.5bn) deal, given he is now determined to abandon it. A Delaware judge will decide at a trial beginning on 17 October whether Musk gets to walk away, or be forced to acquire the business on the terms that he had agreed upon.
Hedge funds, financial firms that like to take big bets on certain market outcomes, also appear to be on the side of (the majority of) Twitter shareholders.
David Einhorn, founder of the Greenlight Capital fund, bought a new stake in Twitter last month reflecting his view that the Delaware chancery court will “follow the law” and “apply it here” by forcing Musk to complete the deal at $54.20 (£47.46) a share. Pentwater Capital Management, a hedge fund that became a significant shareholder in Twitter this year, has also said it expects Twitter to prevail.
Zatko, nonetheless, has given Musk a chance in Delaware with a whistleblower complaint that alleges a wide range of security failings at the company. In his testimony, the former head of security at Twitter, who joined in November 2020 and was fired in January this year, said he had uncovered “extreme, egregious deficiencies by Twitter in every area of his mandate” including interference by foreign governments and poor control of employee access to user data.
Previously, Musk’s case had largely been relying on a claim that Twitter was deliberately underplaying the number of spam accounts – which are not operated by humans and disrupt the platform – among its monetisable daily active users (mDAU), a key commercial metric for the company.
Zatko’s appearance last week could be viewed as a proxy for the testimony that really matters to Musk: a deposition to his lawyers on 9 September that will be used in the court case. The broad lines of what Musk is expected to argue were reflected in Zatko’s opening statement.
“I am here today because Twitter leadership is misleading the public, lawmakers, regulators and even its own board of directors. What I discovered when I joined Twitter was that this enormously influential company was over a decade behind industry security standards,” he said.
Musk has been granted permission to expand his lawsuit to include Zatko’s revelations, which he argues constitute a “company material adverse effect” that substantially alters the business’s value and therefore renders the deal invalid. Zatko also argues in his complaint that Twitter has broken the merger agreement between the company and Musk by making false representations – a statement of fact designed to reassure the counterparty in a deal – about its security arrangements and other matters.
Nonetheless, experts say that Musk will still struggle to scrap the deal even with Zatko’s support. Brian Quinn, a professor at Boston College law school, says that prior to the deal being struck the company had made broad disclosures in its results about a risk of “actual or perceived” security breaches and errors or vulnerabilities in its software.
“To the extent there are already broad disclosures that there are risks to the company surrounding cybersecurity and data privacy issues, the recent testimony doesn’t really add to the overall mix and certainly doesn’t cause the representation to fail,” says Quinn.
Howard Fischer, a partner at US law firm Moses Singer, says Delaware courts are very wary of endorsing claims of a material adverse effect. Zatko’s complaint claims that Twitter executives are not incentivised to hunt down bot accounts and that it does not do a good enough job tackling bot accounts that lurk on the platform, although it doesn’t count them in its mDAU total.
This is slightly different to Musk’s argument, a key reason for quitting the deal, which is that Twitter deliberately undercounts the number of bots in its mDAU numbers.
“Twitter might be an ill-governed and poorly managed mess, but the desire to give Twitter better management was one of the reasons Musk claimed he wanted to buy the platform,” says Fischer. “And the statements about bots do not really bolster Musk’s claims. Given the extremely sceptical eye Delaware courts cast upon those claiming a material adverse effect, I doubt these will qualify.”
Anat Beck, a law professor at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, adds: “The bar is very high to meet a fraud or material adverse effect standard, and I do not think that we are quite there unless we find anything else.”
John Coffee, a professor of law at Columbia University in New York, says any errors pointed out by Zatko can be corrected by the new owner, adding that Delaware – the state where Twitter is incorporated – is inclined to supporting agreed deals such as Musk’s.
“Even if Twitter erred, Musk could correct those alleged errors without their adversely affecting the value of Twitter,” he says. “Thus, he has not been irrevocably damaged. Zatko has raised an issue that Musk does not previously seem to have cared about and whose financial impact may be minimal. Given Delaware’s strong commitment to ‘deal certainty’, I do not see this as likely to give Musk a victory. It will, however, add confusion to an already complicated case.”
A settlement between both parties has always lurked in the background and Zatko’s testimony gives a slight increase in the chances of that happening, says Carl Tobias, Williams chair in law at the University of Richmond.
“I think that the Zatko whistleblower complaint and judiciary committee testimony marginally strengthen certain Musk criticisms of Twitter. However, the complaint and the hearing do not show the type of material adverse effect that Musk needs to win the case. Thus, there remains a possibility that the case will settle, although Musk has a lengthy record of not settling legal disputes.”

With $70 Games & Rising PS5 Costs, Sony’s Pro-Gamer Words Sound Hollow – TweakTown https://collincountynewsonline.com/with-70-games-rising-ps5-costs-sonys-pro-gamer-words-sound-hollow-tweaktown/
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has pledged to do what is best for PlayStation gamers, but the company’s current consumer-facing trends are more favorable for the company as a whole.

Sony management has publicly opposed Microsoft’s buyout of Activision-Blizzard. PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has outright said that “giving Microsoft control of Activision games like Call of Duty” would have “major negative implications for gamers.” This has sparked interesting discussions from gamers, namely PlayStation fans who are being aversely affected by Sony’s recent business decisions.
“By giving Microsoft control of Activision games like Call of Duty, this deal would have major negative implications for gamers and the future of the gaming industry.
“We want to guarantee PlayStation gamers continue to have the highest quality gaming experience, and we appreciate the CMA’s focus on protecting gamers.”

PlayStation segment revenues made $24 billion in FY21 on the strength of hardware sales, software, and microtransactions.
Sony’s assertions of doing what’s best for gamers is currently a tough sell. The company, who made over $24 billion from PlayStation last year, has officially raised the price of the PlayStation 5 consoles in nearly all global worldwide markets outside of the United States.
14
This price hike comes at an interesting point. Sony is set to magnify its hardware earnings because this cost increase is timed simultaneously with two major breakthroughs.
One breakthrough is a series of record-breaking PlayStation console shipments. Sony is about to ship more PS5s than it ever has before, and it’s implied the console’s scarcity will ensure all units are all sold through to consumers.
14
The new PS5 disc model is 1.3 lbs lighter than the 2020 launch edition, which will significantly reduce bulk freight shipping costs.
The other major breakthrough is that Sony has released a brand new PlayStation 5 model that’s 1.3lbs lighter (disc version) than the original 2020 launch model. This might not sound like a big deal on its own, but this lighter weight means Sony will pay a lot less to ship its new PS5s overseas.
Sony plans to ship 18 million PlayStation 5 consoles by March 2023. The new revised PS5 model will reduce a portion of these shipments by at least many millions of pounds.
The new PlayStation 5 model also reduces manufacturing costs by using a more streamlined, optimized, and lighter cooling system. Sony is saving money on the key spending points for any consumer hardware–manufacturing, production, and shipment costs.
14
Sony helped introduce the new $69.99 price tag for PlayStation 5 games during a year that it made record PlayStation revenues.
It’s not just hardware that’s getting more expensive.
Another key part of the modern PlayStation business is the new $69.99 price tag that’s set for all new first-party PlayStation 5 games.
Sony was one of the first companies to introduce the new more expensive $69.99 MSRP alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S console generation. Other publishers like Activision-Blizzard and Take-Two Interactive followed suit. This trend continued as EA jumped on board, and then publishers like Square Enix started charging the new MSRP.
Ubisoft is also about to charge $69.99 for Skull and Bones, and has said that all future AAA current-gen games would be priced accordingly. Microsoft, SEGA, and Capcom remain as the $59.99 price.
Sony has sparked criticism and push-back from fans with its controversial $69.99 Ghost of Tsushima re-release.
14
PlayStation hardware revenues have dropped as Sony struggles to meet demand, but that will change this holiday season as it readies the largest PlayStation console shipment in the history of the brand.
Sony has introduced two price hikes across both hardware and software.
The motivations are clear, though; Sony is an overseas company and relies on foreign exchange rates to perceive company value and earnings. The inflation-heavy market had dropped the value of the Japanese yen, which caused PlayStation operating income to crash by almost 50% in the Q1 period.
14
PlayStation Q1 FY22 operating income has dropped significantly when converted from yen to USD.
Gamers aren’t convinced that Sony’s assertions of doing what’s best for PlayStation fans rings true. Following Sony’s comments on Call of Duty and the ongoing price adjustments to PlayStation gaming hardware and software, gamers have described the issues in four words: “Arrogant Sony is back.”
Sony has been resistant to embrace many of the forward-thinking gaming trends over the past few years, including cross-platform play, which is now enabled on PlayStation hardware, and bringing games to PC, which it also now does as well.
One of the biggest things that Sony is struggling with is innovating on its services lineup. The company recently merged PlayStation Plus with PlayStation Now, creating a new three-tiered subscription model with varying benefits. The most expensive tier, PlayStation Plus Premium, costs $119 a year and includes access to classic games, streamable titles, online play/PS Plus benefits, and free monthly PS Plus games.
14
Game Pass is the nexus that connects the Xbox ecosystem by means of content value, discovery, and access. Game Pass has steadily contributed to Xbox revenues which totaled a record-breaking $16.2 billion last fiscal year.
There’s just one area that Sony isn’t ready to embrace: The Game Pass method.
Sony still has no plans to release its first-party PS4 and PS5 games day and date on PlayStation Plus. Game Pass is hailed as the best value in gaming and for good reason; it offers access to over 400 games across PC, consoles, and even mobile devices, and all first-party Xbox games are released on the service.
PlayStation boss Jim Ryan says that this kind of business model would interrupt Sony’s “virtuous cycle,” which essentially sees Sony compounding its success and growth by re-investing in top-quality content.
In short, Sony doesn’t think it can make nearly as much money as it does now through the Game Pass model, and lower profits equals lower investment which in turn equals lower quality.
In terms of our assessment in what gamers want, it’s quite simple: Gamers want great games. That is the first and overwhelming perspective that they have.
“How they are delivered is a secondary concern. I would say whether it’s in absolute terms, or in relative terms compared to our own history or compared to anything that competitors are managing, that we have never been in a stronger place with PlayStation Studios than we are now. We anticipate that position of strength and excellence will only continue and will only grow.
“We are in a virtuous cycle where success has allowed investment, which has generated more success, which is allowing us to invest more and will hopefully generate yet more success.
“That virtuous cycle, we feel that if we were to move to a different model, which involved putting our AAA games into a subscription service on day one, we feel that there is significant risk that the virtuous cycle that we’ve established so successfully would be compromised and potentially broken.
“We definitely feel that is not in the best interest of the PlayStation gamer. That is our view on that particular issue.”
14
Sony’s plan is working well and has delivered record earnings during a transition period–it also helped that the PS5 is directly backward compatible with the PS4, which is the second best-selling PlayStation hardware of all time.
The logic here is that what is best for Sony is also what’s best for gamers.
When Sony gets more money, it can re-invest into higher-quality hardware, games, products, and services. As PlayStation grows the quality of its content grows, too. So far this trend seems to be technically true; PlayStation 5 games do deliver higher quality graphics and other in-game upgrades…but the core of the logic is still built on profits and growth instead of goodwill to gamers.
Also remember that Sony is spreading its investments across multiple segments outside of games. There are 11 different films and TV shows currently in development based on PlayStation IPs.
This transmedia content does often spark game sales and engagement (Cyberpunk 2077’s playerbase is up considerably after Edgerunners, for example) however it’s never a guaranteed bet.

Sony is accelerating investment into live games, and wants to have 12 live games on the market by 2025.
Finally, Sony is also focusing on multiple different kinds of game types including free-to-play titles and live games.
While billed as AAA titles, this particular segment is typically a far cry from premium mega-hits like God of War, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us. Sony’s emphasis on delivering great quality may fall short with these titles simply by virtue of their delivery mechanisms and business models; live games are predicated on monetization and microtransactions, not premium full game sales, and gameplay mechanics, lore, story, and other features are all typically dictated by these models.
14
Most games sold on PlayStation are third-party titles, not first-party marquee games like God of War.
What is most interesting about the PlayStation business is how Sony makes disproportionately more money from third-party games vs third-party titles. Sony sells more copies of third-party games than it does its own first-party mega-hits, and al...

Ravens Vs. Dolphins Score: Live Updates, Game Stats, Highlights For Sunday’s Week 2 AFC Showdown – CBS Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/ravens-vs-dolphins-score-live-updates-game-stats-highlights-for-sundays-week-2-afc-showdown-cbs-sports-2/
If there’s any reason to showcase why Tua Tagovailoa is the franchise quarterback in Miami, Sunday’s stunning fourth-quarter comeback against the Baltimore Ravens should silence the doubters. Tagovailoa threw for four touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Miami Dolphins rallied from a 21-point deficit to shock the Ravens 42-38.
Tagovailoa tossed the game-winning touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle with 14 seconds left to complete the massive comeback — and tie the Dolphins’ franchise record with six touchdown passes in a game. The Dolphins rallied behind the big three playmakers: Tagovailoa, Waddle and Tyreek Hill — as Miami’s top two receivers caught three touchdown passes in the final quarter to help Miami pull off the upset.
Hill caught a 48-yard touchdown pass and a 60-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa in a span of 2:28 to tie the game with 5:19 left. He finished with 11 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns while Waddle had 11 catches for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Tagovailoa finished 36 of 50 for 469 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions (both coming in the first half) and a 124.1 passer rating.
The Ravens built a 35-14 lead after three quarters behind the play of Lamar Jackson, who finished 21 of 29 for 318 yards and three touchdowns and rushed nine times for 119 yards and a score. Jackson is the first player to have a 75-yard passing touchdown and 75-yard rushing touchdown in a game. He also had his 11th 100-yard rushing game as a quarterback, breaking Michael Vick’s record for the most in NFL history.
The Dolphins never held a lead until scoring the game-winning TD.

The 10 Best Wild West Towns Across The U.S. — Best Life – Best Life https://collincountynewsonline.com/the-10-best-wild-west-towns-across-the-u-s-best-life-best-life/
From cowboys and rodeos to saloons and silver mines, the Wild West era defined parts of America in the late 19th century. Many people love revisiting this time through Western movies, but if you want to actually step back in time to the Wild West, there are plenty of places across the U.S. to do so. For example, did you know you can visit Buffalo Bill’s former lodge? Or step foot inside the O.K. Corral? If this type of living history is up your alley, read on to hear from travel experts about the 10 best small towns in the U.S. that feel like the Wild West. Cowboy boots and horses not required.

Picture the Wild West in your head, and you’ll likely conjure up an image pretty similar to the real-life town of Cody, Wyoming. It was established in 1896 and is named for famed buffalo hunter William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody, according to Tom Mesereau, founder of Mesereau Travel Public Relations. “Inspired by the undeveloped region’s combination of scenery, wildlife, and rich soil, as well as its location 52 miles from Yellowstone National Park, Buffalo Bill Cody decided to build a town,” he explains. In fact, it’s Buffalo Bill who coined the term “Wild West” when, in 1883, he began his traveling show Buffalo Bill’s Wild West.
Today, the main attraction in Cody is the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. It’s comprised of five separate museums—the Buffalo Bill Museum, where you can see actual possessions of his and Annie Oakley’s, the Plains Indian Museum, the Cody Firearms Museum, the Draper Natural History Museum, and the Whitney Western Art Museum.
Mesereau also recommends checking out the Irma Hotel, which was built by Buffalo Bill himself in 1902 and named after his youngest daughter; the Pahaska Tepee Resort, a rustic lodge where Buffalo Bill brought guests including Theodore Roosevelt and the Prince of Monaco; Old Trail Town, a collection of 19th-century frontier buildings including “one used by Butch Cassidy and his infamous Hole-in-the-Wall Gang”; and the Cody Nite Rodeo, “the longest-running summer-season nightly rodeo in the U.S.”

Many old Western cities have been turned into tourist towns, but if you want to truly step back in time to the Wild West, head to this ghost town near the Nevada border. “Bodie, California used to be a thriving gold-rush town that had over 60 saloons at one point, producing over $35 million worth of gold and silver. It became a ghost town in 1915 when mining profits plummeted and many of the public facilities there closed down for good,” explains Bradley Williams, travel writer and co-founder of Dream Big, Travel Far.
Today, the town is frozen in time and preserved as Bodie State Historic Park. “Only a small part of the town survives, preserved in a state of ‘arrested decay.’ Interiors remain as they were left and stocked with goods,” according to the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The nonprofit Bodie Foundation offers tours, ghost walks, and other special events.

Sandwiched between the San Bernadino National Forest and Joshua Tree National Park sits Pioneertown. Though you wouldn’t tell by looking at it, this town is actually not from the Wild West days. “It was established in 1946 by a group of investors in the Hollywood business,” explains Kristin Lee, travel expert and author of the blog Global Travel Escapades. “They wanted to create a functional movie set that looked like the Wild West in the 1880s and would simultaneously allow for a few people to live out there.”
This group of investors included Dick Curtis, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Bud Abbott. According to Visit California, “more than 50 films and television shows were filmed here in the 1940s and ’50s.”
“Today, a few hundred people live in Pioneertown, and it’s widely visited as a tourist attraction,” notes Lee. She says not to miss local bar Pappy and Harriet’s and Mane Street, where “you’ll find lots of wooden storefronts and tiny shops that are run by locals who are selling handcrafted goods.”
For a place to stay, Visit California recommends the Pioneertown Motel, “a rustic, single-story 20-room inn [that] has been updated with fire pits, an outdoor bar, and hammocks.”

Of all the locations on this list, Tombstone, Arizona received the most love from travel experts. As Jenny Ly, travel blogger and entrepreneur at Go Wanderly, notes, “Tombstone was made immortal in under 30 seconds.” That’s how long the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral lasted in 1881 when the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday faced off against the Clanton-McLaury outlaw gang. “Today, you can see daily reenactments of the famed firefight at the precise location where it happened,” says Ly.
You can also get the feel of the Old West by walking around the downtown area. “The wooden clapboard buildings are authentic as are the wooden boardwalks,” says Jocelyn Xamis Wolters, a preservationist and co-founder of the travel site Wolters World. While here, be sure to spot “the 140 bullet holes in the walls of the Bird Cage Theater, a famed 1880s nightclub, attesting to the town’s violent past,” says Ly.
Other attractions include the Old Tombstone Western Theme Park, where you can see another gunfight show; the Boot Hill Graveyard, a National Register site that offers tours; the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, which was created following the events of 1881; and the Good Enough Silver Mine, an 1880s silver mine that now provides tours.
To get a good historic overview of Tombstone, consider signing up for the Good Enough Mine Trolley Tour, where you’ll see 55 landmarks, or a nighttime ghost tour.

Virginia City, Nevada is best known for the Comstock Lode silver ore discovery in 1859. Those who visit today can explore this mining history with a ride on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, “the most famous American Short Line railroad,” according to Kyle Staten, a senior account executive at Fahlgren Mortine, which represents Travel Nevada. You’ll take a scenic trip to the neighboring city of Gold Hill, passing 17 historic mines on the way, several of which you can tour.
Staten also recommends taking a walk down C Street, “the National Historic Landmark that stretches through the downtown of the city, where authentic 1870s western buildings, businesses, saloons, and more remain unchanged.” He says Gold Hill Hotel & Saloon is definitely worth a visit, as it’s the oldest hotel in the state and has one of the most authentic intact saloons.
A representative for the city notes that “docents often walk the streets in Victorian garb telling visitors of the history of the town.” For more nostalgia, there are a slew of historic restaurants.

A small town just outside Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota, Deadwood was settled in 1876 as a gold mining village. “It became famous for its lawlessness in the late 1800s,” explains Trysta Barwig, travel expert and founder of This Travel Dream. “The murder of Wild Bill Hickok in 1876 only added to its reputation.”
Today, the entire town of Deadwood is a National Historic Landmark. Walk down Main Street and find “saloons, casinos, breweries, and even a shootout [reenactment],” say Mark and Kristen Morgan, creators of the travel, hiking, and photography blog Where Are Those Morgans. “Be sure to look for plaques scattered throughout the streets featuring stories about legends such as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, and Seth Bullock.”
In addition, “the town is home to several museums, including the Adams Museum and the Days of ’76 Museum. You can also take a tour of the old mining town, or go horseback riding through the scenic hills,” says Matt James, founder of the travel blog Visitingly.

While most of the towns on this list feature old-timey main streets with clapboard buildings and historic saloons, the rugged wilderness was another big part of the Wild West. Experience that side of things in all its glory in Medora, North Dakota. It’s located just outside Theodore Roosevelt National Park—so named because this is where President Theodore Roosevelt came to hunt bison.
“It’s all about stepping back to the days when Theodore Roosevelt ranched here, when shootouts at the Little Missouri Saloon or the Roughrider were normal. Where the Little Missouri River cuts through the Badlands to give ranchers a route to reach civilization 60 miles away,” says Mike Kopp, creator of Beautiful Badlands.
Some of the main attractions include the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame; the outdoor Medora Musical, a country-western variety show complete with live horses and “a dramatic reenactment of Theodore Roosevelt’s famous charge during the battle of San Juan Hill”; and horse trail rides through the Badlands.

Familiar with the saying “get outta Dodge?” This is where it came from. “Dodge City, Kansas is a famous Wild West town that was founded in 1872 … It attracted a high number of gunfighters and brothel-owners and gained a reputation for being the wickedest town in the Old West,” explains Larry Snider, VP of operations at Casago Vacation Rentals. In fact, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday worked here as sheriffs.
Be sure to see the remnants of the 1865 Fort Dodge, a stop on the Santa Fe National Historic Trail that once “provided supplies and a resting place for traders and buffalo hunters,” according to the National Park Service...

The global pandemic has accelerated digital transformation in healthcare and spotlighted the urgent need for interoperability among information technology systems facing a deluge of patient data – often fragmented and siloed among various specialties, departments, and sites. Such inefficiencies have cost hospitals over US$300 billion in value every year, according to a McKinsey Global Report.
This year, Philips’ 2022 Future Health Index polled 3,000 healthcare leaders across 15 countries, including Indonesia, and stated that the most pressing issue facing healthcare leaders is staff satisfaction and retention, which become a challenging task in a sector that is facing a widescale labor shortage.
Another pressing priority for healthcare leaders is to continue to expand care delivery beyond hospital walls by investing in technologies such as digital health records, telehealth, and artificial intelligence tools that can enhance efficiency, improve care, and connect remote communities, which can be done by building on advances made during the pandemic.
The report also said that in the next three years, Indonesian healthcare leaders say their top investment priorities will be in both AI (82 percent, up from 38 percent now) and telehealth (49 percent up from 37 percent today). Almost half (47 percent) of Indonesia’s healthcare leaders are investing in digital health records, with another 44 percent prioritizing clinical operations centers.
Both figures are significantly greater than the global average of 39 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
Digitalization is critical in driving the adoption of more sustainable healthcare models. A digital healthcare ecosystem will significantly expand access to care, especially for underserved communities in remote, hard-to-reach areas. Digital solutions are especially scalable, which supports the shift away from sick care to prevention and healthy living. Cost per treatment will also decrease, positively impacting the rising cost of healthcare that many countries around the world are grappling with.
It is with these goals in mind that the government of Indonesia has embarked on a digital transformation of its healthcare system. It recently unveiled a comprehensive digital health blueprint that lays the groundwork for the country to leverage digital healthcare to provide universal, affordable, equitable quality care to all Indonesians. The growth of the digital health ecosystem is also expected to enhance Indonesia’s readiness in facing pandemic and epidemic situations in the future.
Indonesia has 37 provinces from Sabang to Merauke where each province has its unique condition. So, to provide equal access of digital transformation to healthcare professionals and patients across different geographies, the government will have to prioritize development of standardized infrastructures and resources for all of Indonesia.
Additionally, the other main challenge is in the management of national health data. Currently, fragmented data which are spread across varying health sector applications, and standardization and data exchange regulations are the need of the hour. PeduliLindungi app for example currently has more than 95 million users and has the potential to be transformed into a holistic citizen health app.
Currently, the Indonesian government has six pillars of the Indonesian Health system that want to be transformed digitally, which are primary care, secondary care, health system resilience, health financing, health talent and culture, and health digital and technology.
To achieve the vision for a Healthy Indonesia, players across the healthcare ecosystem will need to support and partner with the Health Ministry. The ministry in its digital transformation blueprint has mentioned some of the anticipated challenges in this transformation journey – such as primary care capacity and capability, improving health security and financing system, improving referral care access and quality, enabling development or utilization of tech and human resources.
Private sectors in the health technology industry that have experience in collaborating with and implementing digital transformation journeys for public players across the world, can support the governments by providing their expertise to improve access to care outside Java, improve access to comprehensive care across Indonesia, and a continuum of care for key disease areas, such as cardiology, neurology, and oncology.
For instance, based on previous similar instances across the world at our company, we envision setting up command centers such that four command centers across Indonesia can enable care continuum in cardiology, radiology, digital pathology, and intensive care and address the issue of access and interoperability.
Such command centers can enable seamless access to data and efficient clinical workflows to facilitate collaboration across the cardiovascular teams, between 1 cardiac-focused main hospital and selected middle hospitals. Strategically located command centers can remotely support workflows for oncology, neurology, and others, provide advanced visualization (AV) capabilities and digital computational pathology (DCP) and provide virtual care center.
To support the government in enabling health data interoperability, the health technology companies can help by implementing standardized solutions that would enable healthcare providers to access patient data generated from multi-modality, multi-vendor, multi-hospital, and multi-location visits across any patient’s disease journey.
Going forward, we believe the digital transformation of healthcare and the increasing adoption of virtual care or “telehealth” will play a major role in helping people to live healthily and cope with the disease, and in enabling care providers to meet people’s health needs, deliver better outcomes and improve productivity.
Using the command center hub and spoke model can also help to facilitate remote specialized consultation where one specialist can monitor up to 150 to 200 high acuity patients, while supported by three nurses. Centralized training for healthcare professionals across Indonesia through these hubs can ensure equitable standard of care for all patients.
I can say that our long-term vision is to enable transformations that can extend care beyond the hospital walls. We fully understand the need of integrated informatics solutions that are capable of seamlessly connecting patients and caregivers in real-time, from the hospital to wherever they may be.
Together with the healthcare leaders in Indonesia, we must hand in hand “driving better patient outcomes” to meet people’s health needs, deliver better outcomes and improve productivity.

Avichal Garg, the CEO and co-founder of Electric Capital, defines himself as “an NFT maximalist” – who believes that nonfungible tokens (NFTs) will play an essential role in bringing crypto to the masses. Unlike other crypto niches, NFTs are relatable to aspects of everyday life such as art, music and games.
“I could imagine that NFTs are actually many billions of people because it’s ultimately culture. And that’s something that everybody can participate in and everybody can understand,” said Garg in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph.
In particular, Garg is bullish about NFTs being used in the gaming industry, which he sees growing at an exponential pace.
“In 18-24 months from now, I think we’re just going to see this onslaught of (NFT-based) games”, he said.
Garg believes the bear market could last as long as the macro picture is dominated by high inflation, which means it could take another year or two before we’ll see the next bull cycle. Still, when he looks beyond the current macroeconomic picture, at a 10-year time horizon, he feels extremely bullish on the crypto industry.
“Interest rates and inflation dominate in the short term when you’re talking about a 2-3 year time horizon. But innovation is the one that dominates in the long term.”, he pointed out.

On September 18, Rockstar Games was dealt a huge blow when over 3GB of footage pertaining to the development of “Grand Theft Auto 6” was leaked. It has since spread across the internet, sending shockwaves through the entire industry. The cat is now out of the bag in term’s of the game’s main character, some its setting, and even some smaller gameplay features.
This isn’t the first time Rockstar has dealt with a leak, and many in the gaming biz have since dished out their opinions on it, including “The Last of Us” director Neil Druckmann, who broke his silence on the “Grand Theft Auto 6” leaks hours after they went live. In a post to Twitter, Druckmann showed support for Rockstar Games: “To my fellow devs out there affected by the latest leak, know that while it feels overwhelming right now, it’ll pass,” Druckmann said of the leaks. “One day we’ll be playing your game, appreciating your craft, and the leaks will be relegated to a footnote on a Wikipedia page. Keep pushing. Keep making art.”
Druckmann definitely knows what’s talking about. Naughty Dog experienced a huge data breach of its own back in 2020 when spoilers from “The Last of Us Part 2” leaked prior to its release, leaks that showed development footage and huge spoilers for the game’s story. The announcement of next-gen remake “The Last of Us Part 1” was similarly leaked, which caused quite a headache for Naughty Dog as it tried to combat the leaks. Rockstar and Take-Two appear to be doing similar damage control of their own right now, as the leaked clips are being taken down left and right.

ST. GEORGE — Utah Tech’s football team could not overcome a stingy second half Weber State defensive effort as the Trailblazers dropped a 44-14 road decision to the No. 13/12-ranked Wildcats on Saturday night at Stewart Stadium in Ogden.
Weber State pounced on the Blazers from the get-go, striking for two quick scores en route to a 14-0 lead just five minutes in. The Wildcats opened the game with a six-play, 77-yard drive in 95 seconds, which culminated with a Bronson Barron to Ty MacPherson 13-yard touchdown toss.
After the Blazers’ first drive stalled after four plays, WSU needed only four plays to go 98 yards, with Barron capping the possession with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Sharp.
Utah Tech clawed right back with a sustained 15-play, 75-yard drive scoring drive of its own to cut the deficit in half at 14-7. UT’s drive got off to a shaky start as the Wildcats thought they had forced a three-and-out. However Trailblazer punter Andrew Day managed to draw a 5-yard penalty on his boot, which gave UTU a first down.
Sophomore quarterback Kobe Tracy took full advantage of the second life as he completed six his next eight passes, including a big 11-yard connection with sophomore receiver Joey Hobert on 4th and 4 to keep the drive alive.
Tracy also rushed for 13 yards on the drive, which ended with a 5-yard toss to David Fisher, who found himself all alone in the end zone after his defender sloughed off his coverage. Utah Tech’s touchdown was the first offensive TD given up by the Wildcats’ top-five nationally ranked defense this season.
However the Blazers’ new found momentum was short-lived as Weber State answered with its third touchdown of the quarter, which came on another Barron-to-MacPherson hook up, this one from 36-yards out that staked the ‘Cats to a 21-7 advantage.
The Trailblazers counter-punched on their ensuing possession, covering 75 yards on nine plays to again make a one-possession game at 21-14. Tracy threw for 65 of those yards, with more than half of them coming a 37-yard catch-and-run touchdown to Hobert on 4th and 8 just 44 seconds into the second quarter.
Utah Tech looked as if it had regained that momentum after the Trailblazer defense forced a Wildcat punt on Weber State’s next possession. However WSU turned the table defensively when Maxwell Anderson stepped in front a Tracy pass to force the sophomore signal caller’s first interception of the season.
Weber State then drove down to the Utah Tech 2-yard line, where on fourth down, the Trailblazer defense rose the challenge and turned away the Wildcats’ with a big goal-line stand.
Utah Tech went three-and-out on its next possession, and the Wildcats were again set up with a short field after Haze Hadley returned the Day punt 21 yards the Blazer 30. Utah Tech’s defense once again came up clutch, holding Weber State to only a Kyle Thompson 24-yard field goal that extended the Wildcat lead to 24-14 midway through the period.
Utah Tech followed with another long possession, this time a 15-play, 59-yard drive that took 6:32 off the clock. Unfortunately the Trailblazers came out of it with no points when after the drive stalled at the WSU 16, Connor Brooksby’s 33-yard field goal try was blocked with 1:07 left until halftime.
The Wildcats then got themselves into field goal range with four seconds on the clock. Weber State would gamble the chance, as instead of Thompson lining up for a 46-yard try, WSU called for a trick play that saw the him rush for 14 yards before UT defensive back Jordan Scott brought the place kicker down to end the half and keep it a 24-14 game.
The second half was all Weber State, however, as the highly touted Wildcat defense limited Utah Tech offense to only 83 total yards over the next two quarters, while the Cats’ scored 13 third-quarter points, and tacked on another touchdown in the fourth to coast to the home victory.
Utah Tech finished with a season-low 331 yards of total offense, 245 of that came through air, as Tracy wound up 20-of-47 passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Tracy (20 yards), along with fellow quarterbacks Boone Abbott (23 yards) and Victor Gabalis (19 yards) accounted for 62 of the Trailblazers’ 86 net yards rushing on the night.
Hobert racked up 114 yards on nine receptions, including his team-leading fourth touchdown catch of the year. With his 114 receiving yards on Saturday night, Hobert became the first Trailblazer in the program’s NCAA era to record three-straight 100-yard receiving games in his first three career games, and became the first to do so in the first three games of a season overall.
The sophomore also became just the third player in the program’s four-year era to record three-straight, 100-yard receiving games. The last to do it was former Utah Tech wideout Dejuan Dantzler (three-straight) in 2018, while former Blazer tight end Joe Don Duncan achieved the feat twice in 2011 (five-straight) and 2013 (four-straight) during his All-American career.
Barron tallied 368 yards on 25-of-33 passing and four touchdowns, with MacPherson accounting for three of those touchdowns and 140 yards on six catches. WSU running back Damon Bankston also ran for 161 yards on 15 carries and a TD, as Weber State finished with a UTU-opponent season high 623 yards of total offense.
Utah Tech will travel north up I-15 to Cedar City to open WAC play at in-state rival and conference newcomer Southern Utah University next Saturday, Sept. 24. Kickoff inside Eccles Coliseum is set for 6 p.m.

Valorant Champions: LOUD Beats Optic Gaming In Istanbul Grand Final The Washington Post
Valorant Champions: LOUD Beats Optic Gaming In Istanbul Grand Final – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/valorant-champions-loud-beats-optic-gaming-in-istanbul-grand-final-the-washington-post/
ISTANBUL — In front of an audience of millions, the Brazilian esports team LOUD defeated North America’s OpTic Gaming in the capstone event of the 2022 Valorant Champions Tour on Sunday, marking the first victory for LOUD on the international stage. The grand final treated fans in Volkswagen Arena in Istanbul to a 3—1 slugfest, with multiple maps going into overtime.
Visibly emotional, LOUD players wiped away tears as they stood up from their desks, yanking off their headsets and in-ear headphones.
As the winners, LOUD will take home $300,000; OpTic will receive $150,000. The third place team, South Korea’s DRX, walked away with $110,000. The event’s final weekend was a good representation of the esport’s global reach, with the final four rosters hailing from North America, Brazil, South Korea and Europe.
“Valorant” is a 5-v-5 first-person shooter in which teams compete to be the first to win 13 rounds. The game has developed a huge following: In April, the game’s developer, Riot Games, announced that “Valorant” had attained 15 million monthly players. On the live-streaming platform Twitch (which is owned by Amazon, whose founder, Jess Bezos, also owns The Washington Post) “Valorant” is among the most watched games. The title’s release right at the beginning of the pandemic likely contributed to its success; the video game industry saw a huge boost in audience interest and engagement as people increasingly stayed indoors.
Online, the grand final’s concurrent viewership peaked at just under 1.5 million (not including Chinese platforms) according to the analytics and tracking service Esports Charts, setting a record for “Valorant” esports viewership. Last year’s final peaked at just over 1 million viewers.
That popularity was evident both within and outside the venue as well: Long lines of spectators led up to the entrance, and the seats were packed when the games began. (A Riot spokesperson put the grand final’s in-person attendance at 2,200 people). Fans cheered as the final two teams arrived in white Mercedes vans and crowded around barricades to gawk at influencers, players, Riot executives and popular Twitch streamers like Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and Tarik Celik on a makeshift red carpet. Many of the streamers later set up in skyboxes above the venue to co-stream the games, providing unique running commentary over the game footage and further boosting viewership numbers. The singer Ashnikko also made an appearance, performing their song “Fire Again” onstage before the match began.
OpTic and LOUD have what is arguably “Valorant’s” most prominent and high-stakes rivalry. Before Sunday, the teams had faced each other five times at international events in 2022, with OpTic winning three of those matchups. At an earlier event held in Reykjavik, Iceland, in April, OpTic faced LOUD under similar circumstances, losing to LOUD in the upper bracket, then winning the grand final against them after a lower bracket run. But OpTic was unable to replicate that performance Sunday.
On Sunday, OpTic fans were in full force, with cheers of “Let’s go OpTic!” ringing throughout the space at the beginning of the matchup; the first arena-wide LOUD chant came only during map three. But as LOUD inched closer to victory, cheers for the eventual winners increased in frequency and intensity.
The day before, during OpTic’s lower final matchup against DRX, one Turkish fan, Ulas Yilmaz, fashioned an elaborate billboard out of multiple signs given out to fans, taping the letters O-P-T-I-C across his arms and chest. On Sunday, he wore the signs down his back as a cape.
“When I saw all the signs [being given out by Riot], I thought to myself, I’ve got to do something special,” Yilmaz said.
A fan of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region from Jordan, attending his first international esports event, took the opposite tack, waving an “Anything but NA” sign.
“I’m a hardcore EMEA fan. … They hate us. We hate them,” he said, smiling. His older brother, sitting one row ahead, turned around to chide him.
“We don’t hate them. It’s not hate,” he said sternly. “It’s rivalry.”
Inside the arena, the competitors sat on a stage made of screens — and were surrounding by massive screens that beamed out footage of the players’ perspectives in-game to the fans. The sounds of in-game equipment animated the venue. The floor and seats hummed in tune with the sound effects of grenades and other in-game equipment; bass-boosted gun shots could be felt and heard in equal measure. After particularly dramatic wins, the cameras cut away to the players and coaches, as crunched and compressed audio of their screams were transmitted from their headsets microphones into the crowd.
Flanking the stage and elevated above the action, casters and analysts tasked with explaining the game broadcast to an audience of hundreds of thousands of viewers on YouTube and Twitch. When they weren’t on air, they watched the feed, going over and updating their notes, working through cues and bantering among themselves. Running commentary in Turkish echoed through the arena.
Besides their winnings from a $1 million prize pool, teams will also be granted an even bigger sum: a slice of sales from an in-game skin bundle released at the start of the Champions event. On Saturday, Riot Games announced that the bundle had brought in over $16 million — with sales continuing through Sept. 21. That preliminary figure, split between 12 organizations, bumps each team’s take-home cash by $1.3 million. After 2021′s Champions event, participating teams netted $500,000 as part of a similar cosmetics promotion.

Euless – Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to Texas businesses and residents affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred Aug. 22 – 25, 2022, announced Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman of the U.S. Small Business Administration. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Governor Greg Abbott on Sept. 13, 2022.
The disaster declaration makes SBA assistance available in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Rockwall and Tarrant counties in Texas.
“SBA’s mission-driven team stands ready to help Texas’s small businesses and residents impacted by the severe storms and flooding,” said Administrator Guzman. “We’re committed to providing federal disaster loans swiftly and efficiently, with a customer-centric approach to help businesses and communities recover and rebuild.”
“Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to businesses of all sizes, most private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters whose property was damaged or destroyed by this disaster,” said SBA’s Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West. “Beginning Monday, Sept. 19, SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the following Disaster Loan Outreach Centers to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help each individual complete their application,” Garfield continued. The centers will be open on the days and times indicated below until further notice. No appointment is necessary.
Businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets. SBA can also lend additional funds to businesses and homeowners to help with the cost of improvements to protect, prevent or minimize the same type of disaster damage from occurring in the future.
For small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size, SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic injury assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any property damage.
Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.
Interest rates can be as low as 3.04 percent for businesses, 1.875 percent for private nonprofit organizations and 2.188 percent for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.
