EXPLAINER: Buhari And Osinbajo Will Be Abroad On Monday — Who Will Be In Charge Of Nigeria? – TheCable https://collincountynewsonline.com/explainer-buhari-and-osinbajo-will-be-abroad-on-monday-who-will-be-in-charge-of-nigeria-thecable/ President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo are currently both out of the country. While Buhari left Nigeria on Sunday for the 77th United Nations general assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA, Osinbajo has since arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of the burial ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II. The queen died on September 8. Following the news on Buhari and Osinbajo, there have been questions on who will be in charge of the country’s affairs. In 2016, the president handed over power to Osinbajo for five days when he embarked on a “short vacation”. In line with section 145 of the Nigerian constitution, Buhari informed the two chambers of the national assembly of his vacation through a letter. The development made Osinbajo acting president. This was the first time in close to 30 years that a leader of the Nigerian government would hand over power to his deputy. The last time that happened was in 1987, when Ibrahim Babangida, a former military ruler, went for a medical procedure in France. Buhari’s trip to the US for the UN general assembly will see Nigeria and other countries hold bilateral or multilateral meetings on the sidelines. These types of agreements — ranging from discussions on agriculture, climate change, oil and gas, to mention a few — are aimed at mutually benefiting the countries involved. DOES THE PRESIDENT OR VICE-PRESIDENT NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT TO GOVERN? The constitution does not expressly state that a president or vice-president has to be in the country at all times to carry out their duties. Section 145(1) of the 1999 constitution states: “Whenever the president transmits to the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the vice-president as acting president.” The aforementioned provision suggests that there is only a vacuum if the president is proceeding on vacation or is unable to discharge the duties of the office owing to ill-health or death. Buhari and Osinbajo currently do not fit the aforementioned categories, implying that they can discharge the duties of their offices from any part of the world. ‘THERE IS ONLY A VACUUM IF THE PRESIDENT TRANSMITS LETTER TO THAT EFFECT‘ Timi Olagunju, a lawyer and policy analyst, said the constitution is not specific on the president transmitting power every time he is out of the country. “The constitution does not specifically state that any travel means that the president must transmit power. That is why there is a clamour for the parliament to review the law according to global standards, because section 144 talks of incapacity, while section 145 talks of vacation or ill-health, and sticks it to the parliament. That implies transmitting the power to the vice-president as acting until he sends another letter to say he is back,” he said. “The constitution does not provide for a vacuum, except the president says there is a vacuum. The president has to transmit an official letter. There are two instances in which this section has been raised — Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari’s excessive stay in London. In the case of Goodluck, there was no transmission from Yar’Adua to him, but the parliament had to use the doctrine of necessity. “If the president does not transmit officially, there cannot be said to be a vacuum. It means by implication that the president is still acting even though he has travelled. On a lighter note, he can preside virtually. “If you say ‘every time the president travels abroad’, it becomes a geographical thing rather than a legal matter — that means if he goes to Niger Republic, he has to transmit power. “For presidential decisions, that is why we have the federal executive council (FEC).” Meanwhile, according to section 146(2) of the constitution, if Nigeria suddenly finds itself without a president and vice-president, the senate president automatically takes charge of the country for three months during which an election will be held to fill the vacuum. Since Buhari did not initiate any communication to the national assembly in line with section 145 — and is not unable to discharge his duties — he is fully in charge of the country despite his absence and that of the vice-president.

New Stillman Partnership With The Renowned Catholic University Of Lyon Seton Hall University
New Stillman Partnership With The Renowned Catholic University Of Lyon – Seton Hall University https://collincountynewsonline.com/new-stillman-partnership-with-the-renowned-catholic-university-of-lyon-seton-hall-university/ Dean Joyce Strawser with Catholic University of Lyon ESDES Dean Olivier Maillard. Seton Hall University’s new international partner, the Catholic University of Lyon in France, has been recognized in the Financial Times ranking of 100 Best Master’s in Management in the World for 2022. This past April, Seton Hall and the Catholic University of Lyon formed a partnership with the intention of encouraging greater international collaboration in business education between the two institutions. Founded in 1875, the Catholic University of Lyon is primarily located in Lyon, with two campuses housing its six departments, which offer extensive undergraduate and graduate courses and programs in both French and English. The University’s ESDES School of Business and Management, whose Grand Ecole Program was recognized by the Financial Times, has 100 links with other universities and business schools in 36 countries. The ESDES Business School, which received EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) accreditation in 2020, offers bachelor’s and master’s programs with concentrations including marketing and digital business and international business management. Seton Hall’s Office of the Provost, the Stillman School of Business, and the Office of International Programs hosted Dr. Kevin Pon, the Associate Dean for International Development and Accreditations, and Dean Olivier Maillard, Dean of ESDES Business School, as representatives of the Catholic University of Lyon. The meeting took place in the Center for Securities Trading and Business Analytics in Jubilee Hall. Possible initiatives discussed between the two universities included student, faculty, and staff exchanges, joint degree programs, and international internship opportunities. Dean Maillard appreciated how the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two Catholic universities solidifies a foundation for developing international projects, including joint degree programs and greater teaching and learning initiatives. He explained that ESDES benefits from the University of Lyon’s structure as an international university; its exchanges between its faculties and professional schools provide new backgrounds for students that complement the managerial aspect of their education and allow them to develop their cross-disciplinary skills. The new commitment between Seton Hall and ESDES contributes, Dean Maillard adds, “to the emergence of a responsible economy driven by its employees, partners, alumni, and students.” Dean of the Stillman School of Business, Joyce Strawser, Ph.D., remarked how the new relationship with ESDES will bring more opportunities for students to broaden their global perspectives. “From our initial collaboration on an international strategy group project, with students from Stillman and ESDES working together virtually, we quickly observed the significant benefits of exposing students to the perspectives and views of peers at another institution.” Dean Strawser emphasized how both institutions look forward to exploring this new foundation to create richer academic opportunities strengthening global communication. Faculty and students interested in Seton Hall programs with Catholic of Lyon or any other of our many international partners across the globe should visit the Office of International Programs in Jubilee Hall.

Where To Celebrate Hug A Vegetarian Day In The South Bay Daily Breeze
Where To Celebrate Hug A Vegetarian Day In The South Bay Daily Breeze
Where To Celebrate Hug A Vegetarian Day In The South Bay – Daily Breeze https://collincountynewsonline.com/where-to-celebrate-hug-a-vegetarian-day-in-the-south-bay-daily-breeze/ I’ve spent more than a little time trying to figure out where the long list of National Something or Other Days came from. My deep-seeded sense of conspiracy makes me wonder about a secret group meeting in a secure facility, perhaps a culinary offshoot of the Illuminati. Why, in recent weeks, they named Sept. 5 National Cheese Pizza Day and Sept. 15 National Cheese Toast Day leaves me boggled. But not nearly as confused as the dubbing of Sept. 23 as Hug a Vegetarian Day — oddly the same day that’s also National Snack Stick Day. Unlike the other culinary days, Hug a Vegetarian Day has a somewhat condescending ring to it — as if vegetarians were somehow in need of a special request for both love and respect. That may have been the way things were a long time ago, when vegetarians were Birkenstock wearers with beards and loose cotton meditation pants. Back in the day, there was a vegan restaurant in San Francisco called Communion run by a religious group who walked to farmers market every day, did not permit conversation over meals, and had a cigar box in which you were asked to contribute whatever you wanted for your meal. That’s how we thought of vegetarians back then. And the disparagement was general. In his book “Kitchen Confidential,” Anthony Bourdain wrote, “Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn. To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.” (And certainly his anti-veg attitude matches well with the current Cracker Barrel folderol involving their plant-based sausage. You’d think they were serving human body parts! Heck, if you don’t want the sausage, don’t order it.) But for the most part, vegetarians don’t need a hug these days. There’s a long and illustrious history of serious, non-glib humans hailing the wonders of the meatless life. Albert Einstein, who was a lot smarter than most of us, said, “Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.” George Bernard Shaw informed us that, “The average longevity of a meat eater is 63. I am on the verge of 85 and still work as hard as ever. I have lived quite long enough and am trying to die, but I simply cannot do it. A single beef-steak would finish me; I cannot bring myself to swallow it. I am oppressed with a dread of living forever. That is the only disadvantage of vegetarianism.” And George Orwell, who saw the future with 20/20 clarity in “1984” and “Animal Farm,” was deeply hostile to vegetarianism, even though one critic condemned him as being part of “that dreary tribe of high-minded women and sandal-wearers and bearded fruit-juice drinkers who come flocking to the smell of ‘progress’ like bluebottles to a dead cat.” (Should you want to study the history of hostility to vegetarians, I refer you to the large chapter in Wikipedia headed “Vegaphobia,” which is a new word to me. We discover, somewhat amazingly, that Britain’s National Health Service posted a job ad that said, “Occupational Therapists with vegan diets cannot be considered.” A primary school in England expelled a 5-year-old for drinking soy milk during lunch. Which seems excessive, and then some. Like I said, if you don’t want it, don’t eat it!) So, I guess the bottomline is…vegetarians could use a hug. At least in England. Here in SoCal, we love our veggies. We probably eat more fruit and vegetables than anyone else in America. And we do it with terrific creativity and style. Vegetables are our friends. Even if you don’t hug a vegetarian, hug a carrot. And not just on Sept. 23. Every day would be just fine — at great meatless places like these! Happy Veggie 709 N. Pacific Coast Hwy., Redondo Beach; 310-379-5035 This is a vegetarian Vietnamese café, a style of cooking that works very nicely for those of us who proudly insist on holding onto our omnivore membership cards, thanks to the strong spices, dominant herbs and powerful sauces of Vietnamese cooking. I actually think that vegetarian Thai cooking works even better. But it’s hard to complain about a meal at Happy Veggie — every dish makes you happy that you’re eating your veggies. This is truth in advertising. I dropped by Happy Veggie with a closet vegetarian who observed that if all vegetarian restaurants were this pleasant and tasty, he’d have no problem at all leaving the world of meat behind. The menu is easy to navigate, and filled with numerous temptations, as long as you recognize that the chicken, shrimp and beef dishes are made with soy chicken, soy shrimp and soy beef — which don’t taste as much like chicken, shrimp and beef as they do like soy. And that’s fine, though for me, soy will never replace a nicely grilled chicken thigh. Still, accommodations must be made. You don’t really have to go much beyond the handful of appetizers to create a happy meal at Happy Veggie. The Golden Tofu, a dish of fried tofu cubes, flavored with tiger mint, with a lemon dipping sauce, is much more subtle than you might expect a deep-fried dish to be — and it doesn’t lay as heavy on the mid-section as might be expected. The veggie dumplings are pretty much essential — a plate of snappy little dough wrappers packed with cabbage, mushrooms and carrots, with pickled cabbage and carrots on the side, and a vinegar dipping sauce. They like their vinegar here, and so do I. The chicken drumsticks are faux chicken, but not faux tasty, especially if you use lots of the teriyaki sauce, which would make my Reeboks taste pretty good. And, of course, there are two types of spring rolls — one with lettuce, mint, soba noodles and soy shrimp; the other with jicama and tofu, both served with peanut sauce. Refer back to my comment on teriyaki sauce when it comes to peanut sauce, and double it. Is there pho? Of course there is, at pretty much every table. Only instead of being made with hard-to-identify chunks of beef, it’s made with easier to recognize tofu and soy chicken, plus ginger and what the menu tells us is “over 10 healthy herbs.” There are four other soups, including a curry, potato and carrot creation that’s pretty amazing. There are two soy chicken salads, and half a dozen soy chicken entrees. But as ever, it’s a vegetable, served as a vegetable, that I’ll be sure to order next time around — the eggplant with tofu in a brownish sauce that made it impossible to stop grabbing random tastes. The stir-fried mixed veggies are a hit as well. A very happy mix of veggies, stir-fried with tofu. A happy dish in a happy room, with a happy coconut cake for dessert. Pura Vita 320 S. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach; 424-304-2247, www.puravitalosangeles.com Vegan Italian cuisine is…Italian cuisine, pretty much flat out. A browse through most Italian menus are proof that though meat is present, it’s not overwhelming. Cheese has a greater presence, but there are tasty workarounds these days. (My lactose-intolerant daughter has introduced me to the wonderful world of plant-based cheeses. I’m definitely impressed, especially when they’re used as a cooking ingredient.) The 100-percent meatless menu at Pura Vita offers full disclosure of the alternatives offered. The meatballs are mushroom-lentil. The mozzarella and the ricotta are cashew, the parmigiano is macadamia, as is the Romano cream sauce. The pepperoni is “BE-Hive,” a vegan line out of Nashville that uses seitan (wheat protein). Pretty much every dish offers a gluten-free option. Most of the wines are produced using methods that are organic, biodynamic and sustainable — words I toss around without a lot of understanding of their meaning. The food is pretty wonderful. Delicious insalata caprese (cashew mozzarella). A Cesare made with massage Tuscan kale (tasty, and relaxed!). A fine bucatini pesto, and snappy spaghetti carbonara (shiitake bacon). A bunch of good, crispy pizzas — both red and white — one topped with fennel pollen, another with micro basil. The Mushroom-lentil meatballs in a sandwich and as a polpettine antipasto. I was happy to also get the broccoli rabe — because that’s all it was, just broccoli, with garlic, chili flakes and sea salt. So simple, so good — and vegan without announcing it. Vegetables are our friends. Veggie Grill Plaza El Segundo, 720 Allied Way, El Segundo, 310-535-0025; Rolling Hills Plaza, 2533 Pacific Coast Hwy., Torrance, 310-325-6689; veggiegrill.com There are numerous Veggie Grill branches here in Southern California, with more scattered between here and Seattle. The popularity of the chain is undeniable; on a Saturday night, the El Segundo outlet is pretty much packed, not with the wheat juice crowd, but with families who appear to enjoy a hamburger with fries during the rest of the week. Veggie Grill has managed to position itself as a destination for both vegetarians, and non-vegetarians. It’s a tasty alternative for those who want recognizable dishes, even if those recognizable dishes aren’t made of the animal protein they’re usually made of. I’m talking about classic bits of tasty Americana like Buffalo wings (veggie chicken), mac and cheese (vegan cheese), beefless steaks, crabless crab cakes, fishless Baja fish tacos. In my humble experience, no one local does meatless meat better than the Chinese vegetarian restaurants of the San Gabriel Valley, where they offer a crazy panoply of “guilt-free” proteins — pork, chicken, beef, goose, shrimp … the list goes on and on. Out there, I’m never quite sure if I’m eating something made from tofu or from grains. But whatever the mix, the taste is surprisingly like the original. As a rule, it’s the texture that screams different. At Veggie Grill, they do an admirable job of repli...

Coaches Poll: Georgia Passes Alabama As College Football’s New No. 1 – USA TODAY https://collincountynewsonline.com/coaches-poll-georgia-passes-alabama-as-college-footballs-new-no-1-usa-today/ Though we’re barely a quarter of the way into the college football season, Georgia has assuredly looked the part of the defending national champion. A majority of the voters in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA coaches poll agrees, as the Bulldogs have assumed the No. 1 ranking. Following yet another dominant performance in Week 3, this time on the road at South Carolina, Georgia received 40 of 65 first-place votes to overtake Alabama by 14 poll points. Alabama retains 24 first-place votes but relinquishes, at least for the time being, the top spot it has held since the preseason. Ohio State remains at No. 3, claiming a single first-place vote. Michigan passes Clemson for the No. 4 position. The rest of the top 10 also experienced minor shuffling. Oklahoma stays put at No. 6 after a win at struggling Nebraska. Southern California won a late-night shootout with Fresno State and overtakes Oklahoma State for the No. 7 position. Kentucky and Arkansas each move up a spot to round out the top 10. TOP 25: Complete USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after Week 3 WHAT YOU MISSED:: Washington’s win, Oklahoma’s mettle lead list MISERY INDEX: Harsin has turned Auburn into a bad and boring team HIGHS AND LOWS: Winners and losers in Week 3 of college football Washington is the lone newcomer to the poll this week, making its season debut at No. 24 after upending then-No. 9 Michigan State. The Spartans fall 12 places to No. 21. It wasn’t all bad news for the Big Ten, however, as Penn State makes the week’s biggest jump to No. 15, up eight slots following a dominant win at Auburn. Miami matches Michigan State for the week’s biggest drop of 12 positions, but the Hurricanes hold on at No. 25. Pittsburgh, despite beating Western Michigan comfortably and receiving 53 more points than last week, is nosed out of the Top 25.

5 Challenges Of Doing College In The Metaverse | Technology News | Helenair.com – Independent Record https://collincountynewsonline.com/5-challenges-of-doing-college-in-the-metaverse-technology-news-helenair-com-independent-record/ A student wears virtual reality goggles and headphones as part of a digital learning experience. Bill O’Leary/The Washington Post via Getty Images More and more colleges are becoming “metaversities,” taking their physical campuses into a virtual online world, often called the “metaverse.” One initiative has 10 U.S. universities and colleges working with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, and virtual reality company VictoryXR to create 3D online replicas – sometimes called “digital twins” – of their campuses that are updated live as people and items move through the real-world spaces. Some classes are already happening in the metaverse. And VictoryXR says that by 2023, it plans to build and operate 100 digital twin campuses, which allow for a group setting with live instructors and real-time class interactions. One metaversity builder, New Mexico State University, says it wants to offer degrees in which students can take all their classes in virtual reality, beginning in 2027. There are many benefits to taking college classes in the metaverse, such as 3D visual learning, more realistic interactivity and easier access for faraway students. But there are also potential problems. My recent research has focused on ethical, social and practical aspects of the metaverse and risks such as privacy violations and security breaches. I see five challenges: 1. Significant costs and time However, licenses for virtual reality content, construction of digital twin campuses, virtual reality headsets and other investment expenses do add costs for universities. A metaverse course license can cost universities at least $20,000, and could go as high as $100,000 for a digital twin campus. VictoryXR also charges a yearly subscription fee of $200 per student to access its metaverse. Additional costs are incurred for virtual reality headsets. While Meta is providing a limited number of its virtual reality headsets – the Meta Quest 2 – for free for metaversities launched by Meta and VictoryXR, that’s only a few of what may be needed. The low-end 128GB version of the Meta Quest 2 headset costs $399.99. Managing and maintaining a large number of headsets, including keeping them fully charged, involves additional operational costs and time. Colleges also need to spend significant time and resources to provide training to faculty to deliver metaverse courses. Even more time will be required to deliver metaverse courses, many of which will need all-new digital materials. Most educators don’t have the capability to create their own metaverse teaching materials, which can involve merging videos, still images and audio with text and interactivity elements into an immersive online experience. 2. Data privacy, security and safety concerns Business models of companies developing metaverse technologies rely on collecting users’ detailed personal data. For instance, people who want to use Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headsets must have Facebook accounts. Meta is also working on a high-end virtual reality headset called Project Cambria, with more advanced capabilities. Sensors in the device will allow a virtual avatar to maintain eye contact and make facial expressions that mirror the user’s eye movements and face. That data information can help advertisers measure users’ attention and target them with personalized advertising. Professors and students may not freely participate in class discussions if they know that all their moves, their speech and even their facial expressions are being watched by the university as well as a big technology company. The virtual environment and its equipment can also collect a wide range of user data, such as physical movement, heart rate, pupil size, eye openness and even signals of emotions. Cyberattacks in the metaverse could even cause physical harm. Metaverse interfaces provide input directly into users’ senses, so they effectively trick the user’s brain into believing the user is in a different environment. People who attack virtual reality systems can influence the activities of immersed users, even inducing them to physically move into dangerous locations, such as to the top of a staircase. The metaverse can also expose students to inappropriate content. For instance, Roblox has launched Roblox Education to bring 3D, interactive, virtual environments into physical and online classrooms. Roblox says it has strong protections to keep everyone safe, but no protections are perfect, and its metaverse involves user-generated content and a chat feature, which could be infiltrated by predators or people posting pornography or other illegal material. A Stanford University class took students on an exploration of world-merging virtual and physical elements. 3. Lack of rural access to advanced infrastructure Many metaverse applications such as 3D videos are bandwidth-intensive. They require high-speed data networks to handle all of the information flowing between sensors and users across the virtual and physical space. 4. Adapting challenges to a new environment Building and launching a metaversity requires drastic changes in a school’s approach to teaching and learning. For instance, metaverse students aren’t just recipients of content but active participants in virtual reality games and other activities. The combination of advanced technologies such as immersive game-based learning and virtual reality with artificial intelligence can create personalized learning experiences that are not in real time but still experienced through the metaverse. Automatic systems that tailor the content and pace of learning to the ability and interest of the student can make learning in the metaverse less structured, with fewer set rules. Those differences require significant modifications in assessment and monitoring processes, such as quizzes and tests. Traditional measures such as multiple choice questions are inappropriate to assess individualized and unstructured learning experiences offered by the metaverse. 5. Amplifying biases Gender, racial and ideological biases are common in textbooks of history, science and other subjects, which influence how students understand certain events and topics. In some cases, those biases prevent the achievement of justice and other goals, such as gender equality. Biases’ effects can be even more powerful in rich media environments. Films are more powerful at molding students’ views than textbooks. Metaverse content has the potential to be even more influential. To maximize the benefits of the metaverse for teaching and learning, universities – and their students – will have to wrestle with protecting users’ privacy, training teachers and the level of national investment in broadband networks. ___ Nir Kshetri does not work for, consult, own shares in or receive funding from any company or organization that would benefit from this article, and has disclosed no relevant affiliations beyond their academic appointment. ___ What shopping in the metaverse might look like What shopping in the metaverse might look like Imagine our world, then picture it fully digital. For many, it looks like the metaverse, an immersive virtual space where we can log on to meet friends, shop, work in virtual offices, and even buy virtual real estate. Offering an estimated $800 billion market opportunity, the metaverse is eyed by online game creators, social networks, and various tech leaders who are looking for the next game-changing technology platform. Although social media companies see it as a way to capitalize on revenue, building the metaverse is not exactly cheap. Facebook’s parent company, Meta, lost more than $10 billion in 2021 alone just to work on building its own vision of the metaverse. Such losses prove that companies like Meta are investing astronomical amounts of money to discover their next growth stage. In the metaverse, making purchases is possible through crypto wallets. They are made to keep your cryptocurrency safe and easily accessible by storing your private keys. You’d be able to receive, spend, and send out cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. There are various forms of crypto wallets, whether it’s a USB stick or a mobile app that makes it similar to shopping online. To look at this emerging world, Wicked Reports compiled a list from news reports and expert predictions exploring the ways that people may shop for different types of real and virtual goods in the metaverse Some of these options are already available to try today, others are in the early phases of development. But the metaverse is coming, and here is how it may affect your buying habits. Ira Lichi // Shutterstock Food Both grocery shopping and dining out are ingrained in our everyday lives, and both are also possible in the metaverse. Recently, a video circulated on Twitter of how Walmart envisions shopping in the metaverse. Although it was created in 2017, current metaverse demos still appear to be similar. So moving our meals to the metaverse is not exactly something new, at least in the minds of grocery chain executives. Grocery shopping in the metaverse may also help with staff shortages, supply and demand, and optimizing buying experiences. The first food order in the metaverse happened in March 2021 through Decentraland, one of the most popular virtual platforms to buy land and digital assets. kate3155 // Shutterstock Clothes and accessories Fashion in the metaverse will look a little different than strolling to our closets to pick out our daily outfits. Using digital garments “worn” through augmented reality, you’ll outfit digital avatars and possibly make them into non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, to trade and collect. With NFTs (...

Batfleck Returns To Hot Toys With New Tactical Batman 1/6 Figure Bleeding Cool News
Batfleck Returns To Hot Toys With New Tactical Batman 1/6 Figure – Bleeding Cool News https://collincountynewsonline.com/batfleck-returns-to-hot-toys-with-new-tactical-batman-1-6-figure-bleeding-cool-news/ | Ben Affleck is easily my favorite actor who has taken up the mantle of Batman on the big screen. This is a bold statement, but the action sequences were insane; he was perfect as both Bruce Wayne and Batman, and he was pretty dark. Elements of DC Comics The Dark Knight Returns were sprinkled throughout, and I honestly loved that. Batman V Superman, is one of my favorite Superhero films and WB really dropped the ball of the Justice League. Thankfully, we have Zack Snyder’s Justice League giving us a completely different film and one worthy of the Justice League titled. To help celebrate this years Batman Day, Hot Toys unveiled their newest 1/6 scale Batman figure from Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Things are about to get tactical as the Caped Crusader prepares for the final fight in style. Hot Toys loaded this figure out with intense death, multiple expressions, and a nice likeness to Ben Affleck under the mask. If you need more Batman in your life, then this is one figure you won’t want to miss, and he is priced at $300. The Tactical Bat is expected to release in March 2024, and pre-orders are live and located here.  “Batman designed the Tactical Batsuit after forming the Justice League in order to combat the invading Parademon army. It’s an upgraded, tougher version of his iconic costume with visible light armor plates offers protection from the hits while still being able to move and throw quick punches. He can also wear goggles with the suit that allows multiple functions to assist him in piloting his vehicle. Celebrating Batman Day, Sideshow and Hot Toys are delighted to present the Tactical Batsuit Version of the sixth scale Batman collectible figure inspired by Zack Snyder’s Justice League!” “Meticulously crafted based on the image of Ben Affleck as Batman/ Bruce Wayne in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the figure showcases the Tactical Batsuit in gorgeous detail with updated paint applications. The sixth scale Batman figure features a cowled head sculpt with interchangeable eye pieces and lower faces capturing Ben Affleck’s facial expressions, interchangeable goggles, a specialized body portraying Batman’s muscular physique, finely tailored Tactical Batsuit textured with elements of battle-damage, a highly-accurate Parademon gun, Batarangs, grapple guns and multiple Bat gadgets. The figure also comes with a Paredemon diorama base tinged with painted lava and weathering details.” The Batman (Tactical Batsuit Version) Sixth Scale Figure features: Authentic and detailed likeness of Ben Affleck as Batman wearing Tactical Batsuit in Zack Snyder’s Justice League One (1) Batman cowled head with three (3) interchangeable eye pieces and three (3) interchangeable lower part of faces capturing different facial expressions Approximately 33 cm tall A specialized muscular body with 30 points of articulations Seven (7) pieces of interchangeable gloved hands including: One (1) pair of fists One (1) pair of relaxed hands One (1) pair of hands for holding weapons One (1) right hand for holding Batarangs Each head sculpt is specially hand-painted Costume: One (1) Batsuit with grey-colored armor plates, dark grey-colored straps and gold-colored hooks Two (2) pairs of interchangeable goggles with dark colored lens One (1) black-colored cape One (1) utility belt One (1) pair of black boots with grey-colored armor plates Weapons: One (1) Parademon gun Three (3) Batarangs Three (3) Bat grenades Two (2) grapple guns One (1) grappling hook (in opened mode, attachable to the grapple gun) Two (2) grappling hook (in closed mode, attachable to the grapple gun) One (1) grappling hook (in straight motion, attachable to the grapple gun) One (1) grappling hook (in curved motion, attachable to the grapple gun) Accessory: Specially designed Parademon diorama base Enjoyed this? Institutions Are Still Wait-And-See With Ethereum CoinDesk
Institutions Are Still ‘Wait-And-See’ With Ethereum – CoinDesk https://collincountynewsonline.com/institutions-are-still-wait-and-see-with-ethereum-coindesk/ Lawrence Lewitinn is CoinDesk’s managing editor of global capital markets. The Merge has finally happened, and while bitcoin remains the preferred cryptocurrency of institutions (and one nation-state, El Salvador), Ethereum’s new consensus mechanism – and the scalability that is supposed to go with it – may attract some interest away from its bigger, older brother as the biting cold of the crypto winter continues. Still, institutions may be hesitant to jump all in on ether just yet. One reason is regulatory uncertainty. U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler said proof-of-stake cryptocurrencies may be viewed as securities, though the regulator said he wasn’t talking about any specific coins. Nevertheless, his comments helped cause ether’s price to take a hit Thursday. Meanwhile, it seems that if there were any flows from bitcoin to ether, much of that was stanched with the onset of the Merge. You’re reading Crypto Long & Short, our weekly newsletter featuring insights, news and analysis for the professional investor. Sign up here to get it in your inbox every Sunday. At the start of the day – Sept. 15 – that the Merge happened, ether was trading for roughly 0.0817 BTC on Binance, according to data from TradingView. Fifteen hours later, it was changing hands at 0.0746 BTC and continued falling. Ethereum/Bitcoin price chart past five days (TradingView) That’s a depressing chart, one may think. Except that’s only five days of data. Let’s step back and look at how ether has been trading against bitcoin since the early days of the former’s life. The Beacon Chain bottom and other ratios The Beacon Chain, with which Ethereum ultimately merged, was launched Dec. 1, 2020. At the time, ether cost 0.0313 BTC. Thus, it has more than doubled in value since then. Ethereum/Bitcoin monthly chart (TradingView) Still, that doesn’t say anything about institutional interest. After all, prices can move based entirely on retail interest. Trying to gauge institutional interest may be a bit tricky. For instance, using futures volumes isn’t as clear as one may expect. We see that, on a ratio of dollar volume basis, ether futures have been regularly outpacing bitcoin futures since July, according to data from Skew.com, though it recently took a hit. ETH/BTC futures volume (TradingView) That doesn’t tell us much about institutions because some of the exchanges Skew uses for data cater to retail investors with high risk tolerance. There is at least one futures exchange, of course, that might be a good proxy for Wall Street’s interest and that’s the CME. The ratio of volumes between the two cryptocurrencies is way different: CME’s ETH/BTC futures volumes (TradingView) The CME’s ratio of ether to bitcoin futures is decidedly all over the place, but it’s evident that dollar volumes for ether contracts on the CME have yet to surpass that of bitcoin futures contracts. In the spot market, though, exchanges themselves can get a sense of the players interested in a currency. “In terms of the volume increase in ETH this week, it was actually led by institutions, and that’s a significant part of our exchange business,” said Bitstamp USA CEO Bobby Zagotta on CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover” program Friday. There was “about 56% increase in volume from institutions versus, I think, [a] 35% increase in volume from retail users.” A lot of that, Zagotta said, could be attributed to investors “selling the news” with the success of the Merge. Meanwhile, ether’s drop in price didn’t just happen against bitcoin; it happened versus the U.S. dollar as well. Though the drop disappointed HODLers this past week, there are those who aren’t ruling out enormous upside down the road. Matthew Sigel, VanEck’s head of digital assets research, likens ether’s performance versus USD after the Merge to what happened to bitcoin after significant changes. “There are plenty of examples of big crypto developments, including bitcoin halvings, where the price traded in a range for weeks or months,” Sigel said on CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover” program Thursday. “It just takes one major stakeholder to make a decision to buy after some stability in the network. That can take days, weeks, months – who knows?” Sigel, who has a five-year price target on ether of $8,000, noted four times as much ETH was staked on the Ethereum network in the six hours after the Merge than in the entire history of the Beacon Chain prior. “It seems pretty clear that those who are in the markets are now making the decision to commit and lock up that liquidity,” he said. “That’s probably a trend that will continue over time, so the early results are, I think, pretty encouraging notwithstanding the price action.” Sign up for Market Wrap, our daily newsletter explaining what happened today in crypto markets – and why. Sold-Out Lane Stadium Set For Return Of Hokie Effect This Thursday Night – VT Hokiesports.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/sold-out-lane-stadium-set-for-return-of-hokie-effect-this-thursday-night-vt-hokiesports-com/ As electric as the atmosphere in Lane Stadium has been over the last two weeks, there’s no doubt it will ratchet up a few more notches this Thursday night, Sept. 22, when Virginia Tech Football welcomes long-time rival West Virginia back to Blacksburg for the first time since 2004. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET., and parking lots around Lane Stadium will open at 3 p.m. that afternoon. Tickets for this highly-anticipated matchup sold out back in August. Fans still looking for tickets to Thursday’s contest are encouraged to visit StubHub, the official secondary ticket marketplace of Virginia Tech Athletics. What makes this game even more notable is the return of the Hokie Effect theme that asks those in attendance to wear either orange or maroon depending on their seat location. Instead of a stripe like years past, this season’s Hokie Effect will see the North half of Lane Stadium turn orange while the South half is covered in maroon. Find out what color you need to wear and get the corresponding T-shirt through this partnership with Virginia Tech’s Undergraduate Student Senate. Fans attending Thursday’s game are encouraged to enter Lane Stadium and find their seats early in order to not miss a minute of the pregame festivities, including skydivers and the iconic “Enter Sandman” team entrance. There will also be a throwback feel to Thursday’s matchup as videoboard content and other in-game elements will harken back to the mid-1990s when this rivalry was at its peak. The best way to ensure easy access into the venue is by downloading your digital tickets and adding them to your mobile wallet in advance of gameday

Ghana Have A Good Time: 10 Reasons To Visit This African Country TheTravel
Ghana Have A Good Time: 10 Reasons To Visit This African Country TheTravel
Ghana Have A Good Time: 10 Reasons To Visit This African Country – TheTravel https://collincountynewsonline.com/ghana-have-a-good-time-10-reasons-to-visit-this-african-country-thetravel/ They say that Ghana is near the “center” of the world, enough reason for those bitten by the travel bug to visit this African nation. This country is bordered by the Gulf of Guinea, the Atlantic Ocean, and the less-traveled Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast, one of the most beginner-friendly African destinations. Thanks to the coast, this West African nation has a warm climate that attracts sun-worshippers. Beyond the shores, it has grasslands, shrublands, forests, savannahs, and mangroves where wildlife thrives. Its bustling urban centers are places of awe, too. Tourists who plan to swim, stroll the city, or be within lush forests will have a good time in Ghana. 10 The Capital Accra Is Awesome Accra is Ghana’s capital, and once tourists land in this bustling city, they would understand why it’s the heart of this nation. Not only is the city thriving, but it has stunning sightseeing spots that reflect Ghanaian history and culture. For starters, it has an expansive independence square highlighted by an arch. Kwame Nkrumah Park and Mausoleum, meanwhile, is a place of statues, fountains, peacocks, and items related to the country’s first president. The National Museum is perfect for history buffs, while the Legon Botanical Gardens await thrill-seekers. Accra is an accredited place of fun, indeed. 9 Ghana Is Home To Majestic Waterfalls Those who want a quick dip after enjoying the hustle and bustle of Accra can visit a stunning waterfall. Wli is a must-see because it is the tallest waterfall in West Africa. While tourists hike to the falls, they might spot fruit bats, baboons, monkeys, and birds, guiding them to their destination. Another majestic cascade is Kintampo, a favorite picnic spot, thanks to the shades of towering trees. Tagbo Falls, meanwhile, might interest hikers since it’s within a rainforest. The falls of Ghana are grand. 8 Find Stunning Atlantic Beaches Ghana has over 340 miles of Atlantic coastline, something to excite beachgoers. Its busiest beach is Labadi, made popular by its wide shore and location near Accra. Bojo Beach is also near the capital, so families frequent this sandy destination. Those who love partying by the shore should feel the vibe of Kokrobite, while cultural immersion is a thing in Butre Beach. If sun-worshippers are staying away from the crowd, they should place their picnic mats on the beaches of Cape Three Points and Cocoloco. Lastly, surfers will enjoy hanging ten on Busua Beach. The warm weather and the fine water make Ghana a place of sun-kissed memories. 7 Ghana’s Tallest Peak Is Welcoming Hikers who want to conquer Ghana’s highest peak, Mount Afadja, should prepare for a day of fun courtesy of Mother Nature. This 2,904-foot charmer in the Agumatsa Range is a place of relaxation, thanks to the greenery. It will take 2.5 hours to reach the summit, and hikers can also visit the falls of Wli and Tagbo, inviting caves, relaxing streams, and a monkey sanctuary. The tropical rainforest knows how to hide its wonders, so lucky are those who can conquer its trails. 6 The Country Has Castles And Forts Ghana has a long colonial history, so it’s not surprising that it is dotted with forts and castles made by traders from Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It’s like there are pockets of Europe in this African nation. Its most famous castles are Cape Coast, St. George’s d’Elmina, and Christiansborg, all listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Many of its forts are also inscribed in the said list, like Good Hope, Patience, and Metal Cross, among others. Visiting Ghanaian castles and forts — ruined or well-preserved — is a worthwhile trip. 5 An Ancient Impact Crater Is A Ghanaian Attraction There’s only one natural lake in Ghana: Lake Bosumtwi, a meteorite impact crater. This lake is considered by UNESCO a biosphere reserve, praising it for its diversity. Thanks to the area’s lushness, the nearby community is sustained through fishing, farming, and tourism. The lake is a popular recreational spot where families and groups of friends can have a picnic, swim, enjoy a boat ride, spot some wildlife, and hike the hills, villages, and sacred sites. Bosumtwi is Ghana’s lone lake, but it is never lonely. 4 Ghana Has One Of The World’s Largest Man-Made Reservoirs What is now Lake Volta was formed in the mid-1960s when the Akosombo Dam flooded the area. Said lake is now one of the largest artificial reservoirs in the world. This waterway has a busy fishing and timber industry, and tourism is yet to boom. Boat trips are top recreational pursuits, the perfect activity to take in the sights and sounds of the lake, the dam, and the villages near it. Boating is usually patronized by domestic tourists, and foreign travelers who want to try it will have a fine time. 3 The National Parks In Ghana Are Diverse Nature lovers will have a wonderful time exploring Ghana’s nature reserves. They can start in Mole National Park, the largest and home to elephants, hippopotamuses, warthogs, and buffalo. The coastal Kakum National Park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, while Ankasa Conservation Area is the perfect place to unwind, thanks to its teeming tropical rainforest. Not to be outdone is Digya National Park, the oldest and hosts elephants, primates, antelopes, and otters and manatees on its lake. Being one with Mother Nature has never been this good. 2 There Are Well-Preserved Traditional Buildings Aside from castles and forts, another Ghanaian World Heritage Site is a complex of well-preserved structures known as Asante Traditional Buildings. These 10 structures made of wood, straw, and clay stood the test of time. They date back to the period of the Ashanti Empire, a reminder of its rich history and culture. UNESCO praised the traditional architecture employed in the structures, something that should be protected for future generations. Taking a step back in time has never been this easy. 1 The Markets Are Thriving When tourists want to feel the vibe of the community and be in the presence of an authentic Ghana, they should head to its bustling open markets. In Accra, they can visit the markets of Kantamanto and Makola where clothes, shoes, and good food abound. In Kumasi, Kejetia Market is a must-see, especially since it’s considered the largest of its kind in West Africa. Meanwhile, in the city of Cape Coast, near the famous castle, tourists can look for souvenirs in Kotokoraba Market. Business is thriving in Ghana, and tourists should not miss scoring an item.

Combating Covid Globally At Low Cost Modern Diplomacy
Combating Covid Globally At Low Cost – Modern Diplomacy https://collincountynewsonline.com/combating-covid-globally-at-low-cost-modern-diplomacy/ Observing today’s world and all conundrums of postmodernism, along with pluralism and the tyranny of choice, one can witness an “era of gaps”, where great lack of common denominators is a contemporary hazard. The situations redefine diligence and empowers individuals to act like agents of change, not solemnly passive receivers. “Now in the era of artificial intelligence, a new underreported challenge has emerged – when will humans become obsolete? If one believes that this question is yet another example of philosophical melodrama, it is important to consider that society will soon have to redefine what it considers to be life itself” (Bajrektarević, 2020). In this article I discuss and investigate the idea of unity and pluralism, inclusion nor integration of EU Members and mostly focus on philosophical and existentialistic constituents of stability in the post-covid era of meaning loss. I specially introduce the triad trust-collaboration- mediation. PLURALISM, ECOSYSTEM OF DEMOCRACY Many contemporary reflections on the events of last few decades are surmounting the genuine role of pluralism to unfold democratic standards. Major changes and shifts were induced by general alternations of beliefs, conduct and perception. “When our sporadic breakthroughs finally became faster than their infrequent transmissions, this marked a major turning point in the history of human development. Simply put, our civilizations started to significantly differentiate from each other in their respective techno-agrarian, politico-military, ethno-religious, ideological, and economic structures” (Bajrektarević, 2020). We can bow to the idea of multilateral and plural, dignifying understanding of many different views, aspects, and perceptions. Unquestionably we as humanity are denoting diversity of views or standards alongside our brutal colonial, postcolonial and post war conditions. Pluralism can be an answer, side off totalitarianisms and one-sided approaches. Since everyone is unique from one another, whilst there are infinite differences in humans, our backgrounds, education, and expectation, we must learn to recognize, interlace, and adapt to historic and social-economic context of our fellow beings. We need to question our grounding positioning and reembrace the idea of “enlightened argumentation”. Essential question here is, who is managing common denominators of the modern and contemporary pluralisms? Who is translating the gaps of meaning, contexts, and perceptions? To whom we justify our modus operandi? Is there any kind of individual responsibility behind the international clusters and organizations? We do not dispute the idea and practice of pluralism rather searching for unfolded ground, solid in structure and prone to any kind of criticism. But we encounter technological devolvement of human affairs; engendering the idea of biological relativity upholds the question of “what life really is”. For example, “AI now has it all – quantum physics, quantum computing, nanorobotics, bioinformatics, and organic tissue tailoring. All of this could eventually lead to a synthesis of all the above into what are usually referred to as xenobots – a sort of living robot – and biodegradable symbiotic nanorobots that exclusively rely on self-navigable algorithms” (Bajrektarević, 2020). Pluralism certainly is an ecosystem of democracy, shielding the subtle nuances of partitions, supporting the core, and distinguishing it from the tainted and awry interpretations. The diligence of modern diplomacy faced with conundrum of believes and brown-nosing interests, outdoes the schism, self-regarding positioning, and frictions in the map of human empathy and wisdom. This is also a reason why diplomats need to respond to cumbersome media in the wake of interpretative realties attacks (e.g. fake news), lukewarmly summoned in social media and e-worlds. Today’s pundits are more likely to study neuroscience, philosophy, and anthropology rather solely art of diplomacy against contemporary labyrinth of possible realities, yielding and era where no mind can encompass it all, rather estimates, prescribes, visions, and predicts. And all we can dwell into is a structure of possible scenarios, relying only on our knowledge, clean perception and trustworthy colleagues, social groups, and intimate circles. And we need to search for common denominators where we suggest one of them. PRIMAL COMMON DENOMINATOR, TRUST Trust is a new category not just in contemporary workplaces where we need to create environments of psychological safety to support mutual and successful cooperation. As well it is a genuine link in the chain of negotiating in desultory or hostile environments of contemporary global politics. Since each international milieu deploys a diverse team of people, reflecting their own culture and believes, we need to be aware of a fragile equilibrium to support strong HR inclusion politics. As definitions says, “diversity encompasses the spectrum of infinite dissimilarities that distinguish individuals from one another”. Whilst search for common denominator is a big ask, one must conscientiously foster and uphold focus on things that bind, not separate us. Impactful are diverse surroundings we originate and derive from, that can easily put question mark to our cognition, hence to possible misunderstandings: citizenship status, cognitive abilities, cultural differences, education, ethnicity, family, gender, gender expression, geographical location, ideologies, income, language, marital status, morals, neurodiversity, parental status, physical abilities, political beliefs, privilege, race, religious beliefs, skills, social roles, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, upbringing, work experiences etc. But if we follow the formula of three stated notions, is clear that what we UNDERSTAND, we can ACCEPT; what we FEEL, we can CO-RELATE TO and what we INTERNALIZE, we can CO-CREATE. In pursuing the goal of collective abundance and stability, leaders sometimes carry to heavy burden. They need to address collective imagination of peoples and create framework of shared reality, identity, bringing together four particulate and individual dimensions: body (healthy living), mind (smart decisions), heart (trustworthy relationships) and spirit (contribution to the benefit of all) and other important cultural beliefs of EU. While social scientists classically studied trust, conceptualized it as a mental state and measured as such, they were assuming that high levels of trust reflect a social reality in which people are more trustworthy and tend to cooperate more frequently. Only actors who trust one another should cooperate with each other, e.g., exchange information, resources, etc. Of course, reality is relentlessly far away from stated ideal; entering a cooperative relationship normally requires a certain level of trust, and the same is necessary to sustain that relationship. We have accounts of trust as a form of moral commitment, a character disposition, or a dynamic of ‘encapsulated interests’, where trust emerges as a mutual co-implication of interests on all transacting parties. These conceptions turn on a notion of trust as a ‘cognitive category’ because ‘all depend on assessments of the trustworthiness of the potentially trusted person.’ (Hardin 2006: 17) We could estimate that trust emerges as an epiphenomenon of social knowledge: what people’s relationships look like after the fact of cognitive re-appraisals is a sine qua non of the idiom of trust. Can we just bluntly trust, willing to meet all perils of such an irrational decision? There is more to trust that its relation to cognitive and knowledgeable structures. Trust may be ‘encapsulated’ in reciprocal expectations (Hardin 2006), but it is also distributed in a variety of human and nonhuman forms; it is as much as cognitive category as it is a material one; indeed, it belongs to the realm of the intersubjective in as much as it belongs to the interobjective. It is as much an anthropological object (of theory) as an object of social knowledge. The question of trust therefore qualifies as an anthropological concept. In this respect we introduce the TABLES OF TRUST. TABLE 1.: LEVELS OF TRUST Personal, intra-personal, inter-personal Cultural, intracultural, intercultural Social, institutional, organizational National, civilizational Etc. TABLE 2.: WHOM WE TRUST TO? Family members (wife, husband, children, siblings, parents…) Strangers (B2B, rental business) Officials Politicians Scientists Doctors (MDs) Professors Etc. TABLE 3.: IN WHAT WE TRUST Knowledge Experience Religion Truth Memories Interpretations Histories Projections Wishes Individual    cosmologies Etc. TABLE4.: LEVELS OF TRUST / MATERIAL, SPIRITUAL MATERIAL/visible give-get principles calculations instrumental approach to reality utilitarian approach (usefulness) SPIRITUAL/ “invisible“ sharing principle higher vision approach reap what you sow (law of karma), cause and effect MEDIATION (ADR, alternative dispute resolution), VALUES AND TRUST Collaboration is an old way to work efficiently; at the core of collaboration is trust and exercise of agreed meaning, which can be achievable in many ways, one of which is mediation. Sincerely trust needs to be evident in the relationships – how work is done, how words are spoken, and how the results are driven. Without trust, collaboration falls apart quickly and, sometimes, irreparably. Before entering any sorts of ADR’s, one must ask oneself the following introspective questions, regarding ones inner inclination towards trust to be sincere, truthful or the opposite: TABLE 5: ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS BEFORE ADR HOW DO OUR EXPECTATIONS CHANGE THE BEHAVIOUR OF OTHERS? HOW DO OUR BELIEFS CHANGE THE BEHAVIOUR O...

St Mirren 2-0 Celtic: Champions’ 38-Game Unbeaten Run In Scottish Premiership Is Ended – Sky Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/st-mirren-2-0-celtic-champions-38-game-unbeaten-run-in-scottish-premiership-is-ended-sky-sports/ Celtic’s 364-day unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership came to a crashing end as St Mirren climbed to third in the table with a deserved 2-0 victory over the champions. Almost 12 months to the day since the Hoops’ last league defeat, headers from captain Mark O’Hara (43) and Jonah Ayunga (53) inspired St Mirren to their first home win over Celtic in 12 years and inflicted a first league loss on the visitors in 38 games. Celtic were tasked with responding to Rangers’ victory over Dundee United on Saturday but delivered an abject attacking performance as Ange Postecoglou’s side failed to restore their five-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership. After losing his last eight matches against the Glasgow club, conceding 27 goals in the process, it was a maiden victory over Celtic at the 15th attempt for St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson to savour, as his side moved up to third, six points behind leaders Celtic, in the table. How the teams lined up | Match stats Scottish Premiership table | Results | Fixtures Get Sky Sports | Download the Sky Sports App St Mirren stun Celtic as 38-game unbeaten run ends A minute’s applause in memory of Queen Elizabeth II was marred by unsavoury chants from sections of the travelling Celtic support, with some fans singing ‘if you hate the Royal Family clap your hands’ while a banner containing the same phrase could be seen in the away end. Once the game got under way, Celtic had 81 per cent of the possession in the first 45 minutes – the most they have had in the first half of a Scottish Premiership match since a 5-0 victory over Partick Thistle in 2017 – but failed to create anything of note and went in behind at the break. Team news Following the 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Postecoglou rang the changes with former Saints player Aaron Mooy, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh, David Turnbull, Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada coming into the side, while Scott Tanser replaced Richard Tait for St Mirren. Ryan Strain spearheaded St Mirren’s threat on the counter-attack and the right-back laid on the opener as his sumptuous cross found captain O’Hara, who ghosted in unmarked at the back post to plant a forceful header past Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart. Postecoglou introduced Jota and Reo Hatate at the break in a bid to galvanise the Celtic attack but, after another defensive lapse, the visitors were two down before they knew it. Curtis Main outmuscled Stephen Welsh to keep a long throw alive, flicking the ball onto Ayunga to head in the second. Image: St Mirren’s Jonah Ayunga celebrates scoring to make it 2-0 Giorgos Giakoumakis and Sead Haksabanovic were brought on as Celtic turned to their substitutes for inspiration, but it was not forthcoming, and St Mirren should have put the game to bed when O’Hara headed wide on 62 minutes. Moritz Jenz, Giakoumakis and Greg Taylor all forced saves from goalkeeper Trevor Carson but Celtic’s comeback failed to materialise as St Mirren saw out a famous and deserved victory to reignite the early title race. Postecoglou: Team selection probably not right Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou reacts to his side’s shock defeat to St Mirren Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou: “First thing, credit to St Mirren, they worked really hard and were committed to their game plan and made it difficult for us. The performance today wasn’t up to our levels and nowhere near where it needs to be. “From our perspective, we didn’t perform in any of the areas we like to perform in and have been performing in. There isn’t anything hugely positive we can take from today, including team selection, probably wasn’t right. There are always reminders we still have work to do. Every team is a potential hurdle.” Robinson hails ‘outstanding’ Main performance Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson salutes his players after the victory St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson: “Full credit to the players. The boys are the ones who do it on the pitch, they’re tired and still trying to take the tactical information on board in a real, real good performance from them. “I thought we were excellent to a man, but Curtis Main was outstanding. He held the ball up for us, never tired in the game, even at the end. It’s not often I’ll give individuals mentions, but he deserves one today. He gives so much more than just goals. “Celtic are a top, top side. When playing them, you need people to be brave and get a hold of the ball. That’s the most pleasing aspect of the game today for me, we played and passed and hit them on the break.” Man of the Match – Mark O’Hara Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player St Mirren duo Mark O’Hara and Jonah Ayunga react to their surprise 2-0 win over the champions “It was comfortable actually,” said St Mirren captain and man-of-the-match Mark O’Hara. “It’s massive. We’ve worked all week on a game plan. To see it come off is brilliant. Everybody was up for it, everybody was on it. I should’ve scored another.” What’s next? Celtic will return from the international break with a home game against Motherwell on October 1. St Mirren host Livingston on the same day. That match kicks-off at 3pm.

Without question, the Metaverse has been a hot topic for technology professionals. Metaverse principles are still being defined, but experts already project that digital environments will become an essential part of daily life. This raises many questions about how society will function in digital realms. For example, if you get injured in the Metaverse, could you sue in the same manner as in the real world? Morgan & Morgan law firm, the self-claimed largest injury law firm in the U.S., is convinced that yes. “Whether you get injured in the Metaverse or real life, Morgan & Morgan, America’s largest personal injury law firm has your back,” says the firm in their short advertising video, adding that their clients won’t pay a single unless the firm wins the virtual case. Injuries in the Metaverse The firm claims to concentrate on injuries that happen while enjoying metaverse experiences. According to the lawyers, while the mind wanders the VR environment, the human body still exists in reality, so it is possible to get injured using AR/VR devices. “Most VR headsets, such as the HTC Vive and Facebook’s Oculus Quest, are designed to completely remove the user from reality using a noise-canceling and sight-restricting headset, resulting in broken bones, concussions, and injuries to spectators who got too close to the user.” Virtual Reality devices inhibit the senses, making the user more exposed to the dangerous elements in their surroundings. This can result in broken personal belongings and injuries. “In some cases, users have attempted to climb onto an elevated surface in the meta world and fallen on their faces because the surface doesn’t exist, which has resulted in disfigurement and expensive hospital bills for these individuals.” Work-related Injuries in the Metaverse Both tech behemoths Meta and Microsoft (NASDAQ:) are working on metaverse solutions for the work environment. Microsoft is extending its Microsoft Teams software functionalities to add a metaverse experience for corporate teams. Meta is working on Horizon Workrooms. According to the law firm, VR devices were created for entertainment purposes. VR equipment manufacturers have yet to address safety regulations. When the equipment is used in the workplace, and people are injured, there is a strong case for legal action against the companies. “Some manufacturers have failed to emphasize safety in the manufacturing process, causing innocent people to sustain injuries during use. If you’ve been injured by a VR headset or any other metaverse device, our attorneys can help you file a lawsuit against the manufacturer and recover the damages you need to move on from the situation.” According to Morgan & Morgan, the problem is compounded by the ambiguous accountability of VR injuries, as there are numerous contributing elements that can shift liability to other parties. “If a user misuses their VR headset and becomes injured, they’re likely liable for the damage because their actions were negligent. On the other hand, the manufacturer would be liable for the damage if the headset contained a defect that resulted in injury. Still, the user would have to prove that their use didn’t contribute to their injury,” says the firm. On the Flipside The laws and regulations within the Metaverse are still to be developed. The big tech companies have addressed the issues regarding bullying and abuse within the Metaverse. Why You Should Care According to estimates, the metaverse market is expected to grow 39% to $824.53 billion by 2030. Bitcoin Can Provide An ‘Economic Boost’ To The U.S., Finance Expert Says | Bitcoinist.com – Bitcoinist https://collincountynewsonline.com/bitcoin-can-provide-an-economic-boost-to-the-u-s-finance-expert-says-bitcoinist-com-bitcoinist/ Leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin found another ally in macroeconomist Luke Gromen who recently claimed that the United States could gain benefits if it begins to view the digital currency as an asset and not as any kind of threat. Gromen made his statement during his appearance on a September 14 podcast hosted by Natalie Brunell. Gromen is well-respected in the finance research world for his ability to provide a comprehensive analysis of global and topical macroeconomic trends. According to Gromen, in the event that economic rivals China and Russia choose to pile up on gold, it would make Bitcoin as an option and give the U.S. an advantage especially that such a scenario could lead to a “blow-up” in the bonds market. “We would have an economic boom,” the macroeconomist claimed. Is Bitcoin A Threat To The US Dollar? Regrettably, Gromen also pointed out a sad truth that has haunted the crypto alpha for so long. U.S. policy makers, at the moment, view the digital asset as a threat to the country’s fiat currency – the US dollar. Gromen’s statement comes a few days after the first-ever crypto regulation framework under United States President Joe Biden goes into motion in the midst of circulating news reports about the decline and volatility that now plagues the crypto landscape. The Biden administration recently became active in pursuing more control on cryptocurrencies through laws due to the increasing popularity of the asset class. Macroeconomist Luke Gromen. Image: Techie + Gamers It can be recalled that in a 2019 hearing, Congressman Brad Sherman aired his sentiments and fears over the potential dangers that Bitcoin poses to the greenback which, for decades, has been considered as the world’s benchmark reserve currency. Sherman said if cryptocurrency doesn’t work, it makes investors lose a ton of money right down the drain. If it indeed works and achieves its objectives, it might displace the US dollar or interfere with its role as virtually the “sole reserve currency in the world.” Such ideals proved instrumental in the country’s indecisiveness to have a more positive perspective about Bitcoin. Bitcoin Growth Not A ‘Bubble, Macroeconomist Says Although Bitcoin is staring at a 7.5% price decline in the last seven days and is trading at $20.079 as of this writing according to data from Coingecko, its growth should not be considered as a “bubble.” In fact, Gromen acknowledged the threat that this growth could pose to the dollar. The macroeconomist, however, was quick to brush off the idea of Bitcoin replacing the well-established currency. Gromen was adamant that this will never happen, saying it wasn’t also necessary. This helps to bolster his suggestion that the US should start looking at Bitcoin as an asset now that there is a great possibility that China and Russia will put down their chips with gold. Dr. Hinain addressed the attendees at the ceremony saying: “We, at the University, have successfully turned crises into points of strength, determination and solid will for a bright life. Today, despite the current crisis in Lebanon, and the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, political and economic clashes, regionally and internationally, we have our youth who managed to combine science and technology with national values and ethics.” She added that the youth of Lebanon are the real fortune, identity, civilization and legacy, noting that Lebanon is different from other countries, and the world is in dire need of our country, Lebanon. For his turn Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the honoring of the Doctorate Degree. He addressed the graduates and briefed them on his life story since his displacement from Palestine and his refuge in Lebanon, and the suffering he passed through which constituted the main motive for excellence and success in building the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global, the global organization for professional services, education and tech product, operating in more than 100 offices around the world. Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, further, called on graduates to embrace innovation and inventions in the field of knowledge which is considered the key to overcoming all crises, noting that innovation is not restricted to anyone, and a single inventor could be the savior of a whole nation. In this context, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh cited the examples of Google, Amazon and Facebook, saying that the budget of each one of them equals the budgets of all Arab countries combined, explaining that these corporations are purely knowledge inventions and computer programming software. “My deep belief in the importance of invention and innovation guided me to establish the first of its kind university in the world, the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University College for Innovation (TAGUCI), which graduates students based on presenting an invention, not just passing examinations.” At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh presented technological devices, manufactured by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh for Technology, a member firm of TAG.Global, to outstanding graduates. A&M-Commerce Highlights Its Many Partnerships – Herald-Banner https://collincountynewsonline.com/am-commerce-highlights-its-many-partnerships-herald-banner/ “We’re better together” was a sentiment repeated by Texas A&M University-Commerce Provost Tammi Vacha-Haase as she spoke with members of the Hunt County Economic Development Alliance on Tuesday. The presentation on updates and future plans for A&M-Commerce was originally planned be given by university President Mark Rudin, but he was unable to attend. As Vacha-Haase spoke in Rudin’s stead, she focused on the various partnerships that A&M-Commerce has entered into recently or is in the process of expanding. One of the main enterprises that she highlighted was the university’s new satellite campus in North Dallas, which welcomed its first cohort of students in spring 2021. “The unique ability of A&M-Commerce to meet both rural and urban needs … is incredibly interesting and unique,” Vacha-Haase said. “That is something that many universities talk about or say they do, but here at A&M-Commerce, we have our connection here in Hunt County and we also have our connection in Dallas. What an incredible, unique way to serve people in this county and in this region of the state. That’s why we believe that we are ‘THE university of Northeast Texas,’ which is why I call this Lion Country.” The new satellite campus in Dallas occupies two floors of a 20-story business tower at 8750 North Central Expressway and is largely geared toward students who are interested in earning degrees in business or education. Planning for the campus and its offerings was done in partnership with Dallas College so that students can take their basics and earn an associate’s degree there, and then transfer to A&M-Commerce to complete their bachelor’s degree. One aim of A&M-Commerce’s partnership with Dallas College is to make it easier to serve Dallas ISD’s demand for Hispanic teachers and teachers of color. Although the new North Dallas campus received a lot of the attention Tuesday, it’s actually one of several satellite campuses for A&M-Commerce. Their other campuses include Collin College in Frisco, A&M-Commerce at Mesquite Metroplex Center, El Centro College in Dallas, Dallas College, Collin Higher Education Center in McKinney and Navarro College in Corsicana. A&M-Commerce has also had a longtime partnership with Paris Junior College (PJC). “All of our degree plans are mapped for seamless transfer to A&M-Commerce,” PJC President Pam Anglin said Tuesday. In addition to opening a new campus, growth is also on the horizon for the main campus in Commerce in the form of a new agricultural education complex and a new welcoming center. In October 2021, A&M-Commerce received $44.9 million from the state toward the completion of the $46 million agriculture education complex. The proposed agriculture complex is to be equipped for students studying a wide array of agricultural disciplines, including agricultural research, sustainable agriculture, animal science, urban agriculture and equine studies. “We hope that with the Ag complex, that we might be able to help attract more agricultural industries to Commerce and Hunt County,” Vacha-Haase said. As for the anticipated $20 million welcoming center, Vacha-Haase explained that it would be a place to meet with prospective students and their families. “It’s about first impressions. You all know about this, you’re all in business,” Vacha-Haase said. “For us, it’s about that first shot, where that student and their family comes in … and how you welcome them. “Texas is really a big state, with a lot of higher educational institutions, so it’s our job to figure out what is it that A&M-Commerce does well … and how do we share that with students and families,” she continued. “Probably more importantly, we want a place where we can show that to them the first time they step on campus.” On a lighter note, Vacha-Haase spoke on the university’s partnerships with various restaurant franchises. Currently, the Commerce campus sports both a Starbucks in its library and a Chic-fil-A in its student center. It is in the process of building a Jimmy John’s in its nursing and health sciences building and recently announced plans to build a Whataburger on the corner of state Highway 24 and Culver Street. When asked by an audience member about when the Whataburger would open, Vacha-Haase joked, “Not soon enough,” but then said it should “be ready to open in about a year.”

7 Things To Know Before Your First Cruise According To Former Employee Insider
7 Things To Know Before Your First Cruise According To Former Employee Insider
7 Things To Know Before Your First Cruise, According To Former Employee – Insider https://collincountynewsonline.com/7-things-to-know-before-your-first-cruise-according-to-former-employee-insider/ I worked on cruise ships for over a decade, now I live on one most of the year with my husband.  I wish first-time cruisers would look into their cruise lines and ports before booking. It’s also helpful to be kind to the crew and prepare to possibly feel seasick.  Loading Something is loading. After working in the cruise industry for around 15 years, I lost my job during the coronavirus pandemic. Now, I sail on cruises half of the year as a “wife on board” with my husband, a ship engineer. We live on land and at sea, and I share my adventures on my TikTok (@dutchworld_americangirl). Years later, I still think cruising is one of the best ways to see the world. It’s like tapas — you get a taste of ports around the world and you can decide whether you’d like to travel back to a certain place and have the “full entree,” one destination. That said, planning your first trip can be overwhelming. Here are important things I think future first-time cruisers should know. The ship will not wait for you  To most, this seems like common sense. But, add in a beautiful destination, margaritas, and music and one can easily forget there’s a ship waiting. More than once I have witnessed people running down the pier — but if your boat has already been untied from it, you’re not getting back on board. And yes, passengers who miss the boat are almost certainly responsible for the cost, airfare, and hotel, to get to the next port where the ship will dock. If you’re docking for less than 8 hours, book your excursions through the ship Everyone has a different opinion on this. But as a former cruise director, I have a simple rule that I use to book excursions when my parents come sail with me.  If you’re in a port for a long period of time — at least overnight —it’s not crucial to book your excursions through the ship because you have lots of time to navigate your way around the stop.  But if your ship is in port for less than eight hours, I suggest booking an excursion through the ship because it must wait for people to return from its own excursions.  If a taxi breaks down or you encounter traffic and you’re on a personal excursion, you’re out of luck. If you’re on an excursion through your cruise line, the ship won’t leave you behind.  If you’re docked for just a few hours, you may want to book your excursions through the ship. Christine Kesteloo You might not want to skip the international travel insurance  Yes, there are nurses and doctors on every ship. I know more than most about being sick abroad, as I was once taken off of the ship due to sickness and spent two months in a New Zealand hospital. My medical expenses were covered since I was an employee, but cruisers should really consider talking to their insurance provider before the trip and also looking into international coverage. Just because you’re on vacation does not mean the world will shield you in bubble wrap from accidents — or that they’ll all be covered.  Seasickness is no joke — even I get ill after over a decade onboard  I’ve been sailing for 12 years on and off and even I still get seasick. I’ve seen many cruisers come on board unaware that they get motion sickness. And trust me, when the sickness sets in, it’s already a bit too late. In some cases, prepare to be “down for the count” for at least 48 hours. To better prepare, you can try wristbands, patches, or other natural remedies. Personally, if I know rocky seas are in the forecast I take a non-drowsy motion-sickness medication, like Dramamine or Bonine. Keep in mind I’m not a medical professional — just a former cruise director who has tried just about everything to nix nausea on the seas. Do what works for you.  Your cruise line is just as important as your destinations  There are so many cruise companies and each offers something different. Key factors such as age, interests, and your desired bedtime should dictate what cruise line you sail on. For children, I’d send them straight to a ship from Royal Caribbean or Disney. For young adults or young-at-heart adults, I suggest Carnival. For a bit of posh and trend, try Virgin or Celebrity. For sophistication, music, and good food I recommend Holland America Line. I could go on and on. And ships can vary, too. Choose wisely and do your research.  Research can really pay off when booking a cruise. Christine Kesteloo Research each destination and port before you go to them  A cruise can take you around the world to all seven continents and dock in some pretty amazing places. That said, I’ve seen many cruisers disappointed because they picture their ship docking somewhere perfect where they can just walk off of the ship and into tons of fun activities and sights. But this isn’t always the case. In Asia, for example, ships often dock in a cargo port — not a popular tourist spot.  You will need to either book an excursion, taxi, or shuttle to actually see anything because you can’t experience the food and culture from a shipping yard. Plan ahead. A little bit of kindness goes a long way — and even though we’ve heard all of your jokes we’ll laugh at them anyway  Crew members are incredibly kind and hardworking. Many of us love our way of living and enjoy being at sea. We are happy to help, but you should never talk down to the crew. A little bit of kindness goes a long way. Plus, we return the favor.  We’ve heard your cruise jokes a million times — “It looks like we’re all walking drunk,” a guest will say as we go through the ship. “I’ll pick up the check for dinner tonight,” a guest will say in the dining room, knowing full well that all the food is paid for. Even though these are nothing new, we’ll still smile and laugh at your jokes every time.

University Of Ghana Graduate Students Demand Payment Of Bursaries – Ghana Business News https://collincountynewsonline.com/university-of-ghana-graduate-students-demand-payment-of-bursaries-ghana-business-news/ The University of Ghana branch of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana has expressed its displeasure with the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and the government for the delay in paying graduate students’ bursaries since 2019. “Research is an important tool for national development. As graduate students, whose major preoccupation is research, we dedicate our time to finding solutions to the plethora of challenges that confront society,” Ms Christiana Adu, President of the University of Ghana GRASAG, said in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency. “This we do with all dedication and diligence in pursuit of the development of our nation,” she stated. “It is somewhat surprising that a government that believes in education and is determined to turn the fortunes of this country post-COVID-19 pandemic has not prioritised our academic research work.” She said the association had observed with “great concern the lack of urgency by the government and the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat in paying the bursaries of our members.” According to her, the government had ignored multiple appeals by their mother association, GRASAG National, to ensure the payment of overdue bursaries to certain students in the 2019/2020 academic year, as well as payment for the 2020/2021 bursary and registration for the 2021/2022 academic years. “The 2020/2021 academic year ended with no commitment from the government to pay bursaries due graduate students,” she added. She said many graduate students were unable to complete their thesis due to the non-disbursement of the bursaries, which was hampering the flow of academic work. Ms Adu also said the Association had contacted the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat and had called on the Minister for Education to seek his intervention for the payment of the bursaries, but all of their attempts failed, and the bursaries remained unpaid. She added, “We are still urging the government and the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat to expedite payment of our bursaries in earnest.” She also called for an upward adjustment in their bursaries from the present level of GHS 420 for each student pursuing a master’s degree, saying: “This amount is woefully inadequate and insignificant under the current economic circumstances to fund academic research.” However, while asking the government to send payments into their accounts by Thursday, September 22, 2022, she stated that if the government continued with its current posture, “we may advise ourselves in a manner most appropriate and lawful.” Source: GNA

Have We Become More Selfish In A Post-Covid World? The Independent
Have We Become More Selfish In A Post-Covid World? The Independent
Have We Become More Selfish In A Post-Covid World? – The Independent https://collincountynewsonline.com/have-we-become-more-selfish-in-a-post-covid-world-the-independent/ While the pandemic and lockdowns were wholeheartedly hated by the vast majority, I would be the first to admit that there were also some positive moments that came out of our enforced confinement of 2020 and 2021. As a self-employed mother with two small children, I felt included in a way that I hadn’t in a long time. There were Zoom pub quizzes, online panel discussions, and a whole heap of new WhatsApp group chats that allowed me to get my social fix in those dark days. I felt part of society for the first time in many years. We all agreed that public sector workers and shop staff had a rough deal; we compared sourdough starters, clapped on our doorsteps every Thursday, and started to appreciate the simple pleasures of being healthy, together, and having a new horde of Monstera plants to tend to. No sooner, it seemed, had Covid-19 become less of a “thing”, the war in Ukraine broke out. Again, we clubbed together to do our bit. We raided our wardrobes for warm clothes, people travelled to the borders to take what supplies they could, and a great many opened their homes, inviting in refugees in their time of need. Many of us are still clinging to the last vestiges of those silver linings, but I feel like that camaraderie, that unity, that “in this together” spirit has now faded into a distant memory. Even the sense of “togetherness” seen in the queue to walk past the Queen’s coffin as she lies in state, with stories of sandwich-sharing and budding romances, is bittersweet, coloured by a wider sense that dissenting voices are unwelcome. Think of the increase in racist abuse of Black and Asian people on social media, and the heavy-handed policing of protesters who criticise the monarchy. I really believed that Covid was a turning point. That we would start to care more about each other, take care of our planet, and support each other’s mental health and boundaries. But I’ve noticed that, as we’ve moved forward, this has started to be replaced with a new sense of selfishness. At first, I thought it was just not being exposed to people for a long time. That people had always been like that, and I’d just forgotten. But as time has worn on, as strangers have cut me up at junctions and the infighting among once-close groups of friends has escalated, I’ve realised that we are now in a state of collective social burnout. As society reopened, we saw stories about what others had been up to while the rest of us were determinedly doing the “right thing”. Partygate, dodgy deals, the admitted sexism of the government’s SEISS scheme, and, as ever, the small proportion of people profiteering from a crisis. And now the rot has really set in, and we are still frightened – locked in a third year of fight or flight mode. We have replaced one life-threatening event, the pandemic, with another – the terrifying reality of a cost of living crisis. A crisis in which, although we live in one of the richest countries in the world, many of us are now in a position where we don’t know how we’re going to manage. Will we be able to feed our children? Heat our homes? Can we just scrape by? Even with the new prime minister Liz Truss’s plan to cap household energy bills at £2,500, it’s still unclear how the average family – or those who are more vulnerable – will cope. People are going on strike to argue for a pay increase so that they can just about afford to keep the lights on. People are being forced into debt, are worried about losing their jobs, and are having to take drastic action to try to survive. We’re all tired, and we just want to go back to how things were. We expected Covid to end, and that we – as a society – would continue on our merry way. But there’s no going back. To keep up to speed with all the latest opinions and comment, sign up to our free weekly Voices Dispatches newsletter by clicking here Like other key events in recent history, including 9/11 and the financial crash of 2008, Covid has left us with a different world. We have to work out if we want to continue to be selfless, to think of others – or join the mob mentality and just look after our own. While many would automatically say the former, hardship and fear may influence us to take a more self-serving route. It’s coded into our primal brains to survive, and when it comes to the crunch, the vast majority will save themselves. Even the Don’t Pay movement that is encouraging people to refuse to pay their energy bills has divided us. There are the people who are doing it on principle, the people who are considering it as their only option, and those who are ignoring it because they don’t want to damage their credit, as who knows what tomorrow holds. I remember thinking about how terrifying a global pandemic was in March 2020. This unknown, unseen virus threatened to destroy everything that we held dear. But that faceless virus, in hindsight, was a more palatable threat. The selfishness of people across the spectrum of class, wealth and social status now feels starker and more visible than ever. As a society, we have become more selfish in a post-Covid world, but really, looking at the state of things, who could blame us?

As of September 2022, The project has acquired a prime spot of land in Decentraland, creating a hub for their NFT Holders to share and create unique experiences.  To grasp the significance of this, it helps to understand what Decentraland is and why it is so important. Decentraland is a user-oriented virtual metaverse where people around the world can congregate and share ideas and resources. It is a digital space with its ecosystem, culture, economic opportunities, and even real estate.  With this in mind, real estate in Decentraland is highly important, as attaining a high-quality spot not only shows your dedication to the metaverse but also places your project in a prominent location for Decentraland’s community to all see. By acquiring such a place, NFT Demon shows the virtual world that their Super Gremlin NFT collection is a serious project. It additionally means that members of Decentraland can easily locate Super Gremlin’s space and utilize it as the perfect area to share unique and immersive experiences. In other words, it gives the fanbase a location where they can feel at home and connect with like-minded individuals.  The prime location also helps with one of NFT Demon’s most altruistic goals, which is to raise awareness of cancer. Jeremy Ryan, AKA NFT Demon, is a cancer survivor. The artist and entrepreneur had a four-year battle with a brain tumor, along with other forms of cancer, throughout his body. Despite medical practitioners informing him that his chances of survival were near-impossible, Ryan recovered – nothing short of a medical miracle. As a means of honoring his own experience and helping others in the world, he wants his art to spread awareness of cancer to aid those who are suffering themselves.  About Super Gremlin Super Gremlin is an NFT Collection aimed to be different from every other project in the NFT space. While other projects focus on profits, the Super Gremlin community helps fund NGOs that fight against cancer every day. Woman Reveals The 10 Best Travel Apps To Improve Trips For Holidaymakers… – The Irish Sun https://collincountynewsonline.com/woman-reveals-the-10-best-travel-apps-to-improve-trips-for-holidaymakers-the-irish-sun/ A TRAVELLER has revealed the 10 best travel apps that she uses while away on holiday. Kristina Cors, a digital nomad, shared her tips on TikTok, where she posts as @kristinacors. 2 One of Kristina’s recommendations was Get Your Guide, which helps people find things to do on holidayCredit: TikTok/@kristinacors The videos were released a series of short clips, explaining why each of the apps was worth downloading. One of those on her list was Get Your Guide, an app that helps people find the best things to do when arriving in a new destination. UK Regulator Warns Crypto Exchange FTX Is Providing Services Without Authorization – Regulation Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://collincountynewsonline.com/uk-regulator-warns-crypto-exchange-ftx-is-providing-services-without-authorization-regulation-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ Britain’s top financial regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), has issued a warning about cryptocurrency exchange FTX operating in the U.K. without authorization. “Almost all firms and individuals offering, promoting or selling financial services or products in the U.K. have to be authorized or registered by us,” said the regulator. FCA Warns About FTX Operating Without Authorization The U.K. Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) published a warning on its website Friday regarding crypto exchange FTX. The regulator detailed: We believe this firm may be providing financial services or products in the U.K. without our authorization. The FCA explained that FTX is not authorized but is targeting investors in the U.K. Firms carrying out specific crypto asset activities in the U.K. must comply with the amended “Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations,” and register with the FCA. “You will not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service or be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), so you are unlikely to get your money back if things go wrong,” the financial regulator warned, elaborating: Almost all firms and individuals offering, promoting or selling financial services or products in the U.K. have to be authorized or registered by us. FTX has been trying to expand its operations in Europe. The company established FTX Europe in March and said it had secured approval from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). In May, the U.K. government outlined its plans to support crypto adoption and affirmed its commitment to regulate stablecoins. Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said in April: “It’s my ambition to make the U.K. a global hub for crypto asset technology, and the measures we’ve outlined today will help to ensure firms can invest, innovate, and scale up in this country.” His former colleague, Glen, similarly said: “We want this country to be a global hub — the very best place in the world to start and scale crypto-companies.” However, the government’s crypto plans may change under the new prime minister, Liz Truss. Biden Warns US Democracy Threatened, But How Can He Save It? – The San Diego Union-Tribune https://collincountynewsonline.com/biden-warns-us-democracy-threatened-but-how-can-he-save-it-the-san-diego-union-tribune/ WASHINGTON —  President Joe Biden is finding it’s easier to call out attacks on democracy than it is to stop them. His fundamental rationale for running for president was that America’s democratic traditions were in jeopardy. Now, 20 months into his presidency, the dangers are worse, Biden’s warnings are more dire — and the limits of his own ability to fix the problem are clearer. Former President Donald Trump continues to stoke the baseless claim the 2020 election was stolen, and even now advocates for the results in certain battleground states to be decertified even though the falsehood has been rejected by dozens of courts and his own attorney general. The belief has taken deep root in the Republican Party, with dozens of candidates insisting Trump was right. Never in the country’s history have elections taken place in a climate where one party has so frontally questioned the integrity of the electoral process and actively sought to undermine confidence in it. “We’re in an unprecedented situation here, because Biden’s predecessor has shown a flagrant disregard for the Constitution of the United States, and now others are following that path,” said Princeton historian Sean Wilentz, who was among a group invited to the White House recently to put today’s challenges in historical context. “It could be dangerous.” Biden has found, even with the megaphone of the White House, how difficult it is to counter the Trump-inspired narrative and the millions of Americans who believe it. Trump allies have been going around the country peddling lies about the 2020 election and conspiracy theories about voting machines, while Republican candidates running for office this year have repeated his lies to their supporters –- messaging that has reached a broad audience. Every U.S. president swears to “preserve, protect and defend” the U.S. Constitution, but even in ordinary times there is no playbook for safeguarding it. Biden took that oath as the nation was facing challenges unmatched since perhaps the U.S. Civil War, in the view of some historians. In a speech earlier this month at Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, Biden described democracy as “under assault” and pledged that it was the work of his presidency to defend it. But he also said the solution had to be bigger than him, that he can’t turn back what he sees as a years-long backslide in American political norms on his own. “For a long time, we’ve told ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed. But it’s not,” he said. “We have to defend it, protect it, stand up for it – each and every one of us.” Has Biden himself done enough? His efforts at persuasion don’t seem to have produced any significant shift in public opinion. His push for voting rights legislation in Congress has for the most part fallen short. Beyond the president’s increasingly drastic warnings, White House officials point to the administration’s efforts to push voting rights safeguards through Congress and to their support for the Electoral Count Act, which would patch ambiguities exploited by Trump and his allies. The Department of Justice is prosecuting those who violently stormed the Capitol. More than 870 people have been charged and more than 400 convicted. The administration also has sounded the alarm about domestic extremist groups. There’s an increasing overlap with politically-fueled violence, as a growing number of ardent Trump supporters seem ready to strike back against the FBI or others they consider going too far in investigating the former president. And the National Security Council has developed a whole-of-government strategy to counter domestic violent extremism, which U.S. intelligence officials have called the top threat to homeland security. While voters ranked threats to democracy as the most important issue ahead of the midterm elections, according to an NBC News poll late last month, the conspiracy theories pushed by Trump and his allies have succeeded in sowing doubts about the integrity of U.S. elections in a large swath of the population. Two-thirds of Republicans believe Biden wasn’t legitimately elected president, according to an AP-NORC poll. They believe that votes were switched, or voting machines were corrupted en masse, or that fake ballots were cast in favor of Biden because pandemic-era policies made voting too easy. Trump-backed candidates are winning primaries and some will make it to Congress. In the states, nearly 1 in 3 Republican candidates for offices that play a role in overseeing, certifying or defending elections supported overturning the results of the 2020 presidential race. Candidates have signaled a new willingness to simply refuse to accept the results of their election if they lose. And election workers across the country are getting death threats and are harassed online, pushing many to just resign. “We are very clearly playing with fire with some of the new tactics, allowing them to proliferate around the country,” said Matthew Weil, the executive director of our Democracy Program at the Bipartisan Policy Center think tank. “It’s: ‘If my candidate loses, I’m going to drag it out as long as possible. I can cut the legs out from the person who beat me from taking office.’ That’s a new feature and it’s pretty dangerous. We can’t have an election system where people aren’t willing to lose.” Checking the antidemocratic forces within Trumpism is not just a policy aim, it’s a political endeavor as well, and that clouds the picture. Biden aides say his best tool to try to preserve democracy is his use of the bully pulpit to make clear to voters that they play a vital role in participating in the electoral process and deciding whom to put into positions of influence. He isn’t the only one sounding the alarm. The special congressional committee investigating the 2021 Capitol insurrection has delivered the same message, as have election officials in states across the country, historians and other lawmakers. Administration allies say Biden’s efforts have resonated with voters, particularly as Trump’s behavior in late 2020 and early 2021 has been cast into stark relief by the Jan. 6 committee. But the president’s remarks have largely been dismissed by Republicans unwilling to break with Trump. Former Vice President Mike Pence, whom Trump supporters threatened to hang on Jan. 6 and who hid in a secure location beneath the building as the masses hunted him in the halls, decried Biden’s comments after the Philadelphia speech. “Never before in the history of our nation has a president stood before the American people and accused millions of his own countrymen of being a ‘threat to this country,’” Pence said in remarks to conservatives. Former U.N. ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called Biden “the most condescending president of my lifetime.” The struggle the nation is facing goes beyond political parties, though. And “unless and until enough people fight for, protect and build our democracy, the fever we see today will continue,” said Melody Barnes, head of the University of Virginia Karsh Institute of Democracy. The closest parallel, historians say, has been the Civil War era, when war broke out after Southern states wouldn’t recognize Abraham Lincoln had been elected president. Following the end of fighting, there was a continued refusal to accept the rule of law during Reconstruction, as deep racism and violence proliferated, resulting eventually in the Jim Crow era. At critical moments, U.S. leaders have taken a stand to protect the nation from itself. George Washington left office to ensure future leaders would willingly walk away, too. Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon after Watergate — a wildly unpopular move in 1974 but one that has since been viewed more as an effort to push the country past a national nightmare. Biden, at a summit this past week on countering hate-fueled violence, talked about how good he felt years ago when he worked successfully with Republicans in the Senate to get the Voting Rights Act extended. “And I thought, well, you know, hate can be defeated,” he said. “But it only hides,” he said with a sigh. “And when given any oxygen, it comes out from under the rocks.”
