Metaverse Markets And Business Predictions In The Industry Report 2022 By GamesPad | Bitcoinist.com – Bitcoinist https://collincountynewsonline.com/metaverse-markets-and-business-predictions-in-the-industry-report-2022-by-gamespad-bitcoinist-com-bitcoinist/ Road Town / British Virgin Islands – Gaming, NFT and Metaverse ecosystem GamesPad has released Metaverse: Emerging Business Opportunities, a comprehensive research paper that explores how the metaverse will influence crucial business sectors, examines the opportunities presented by this new concept, and offers strategies for capitalizing on these opportunities. GamesPad believes that the metaverse will transform all aspects of our lives, starting with the way we socialize to how we work, shop, and even consume content. In the report, GamesPad lists the new markets that emerge through the evolution of the metaverse and advises entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and business owners on the importance of establishing a metaverse business strategy. In this article, we will explore the predictions and insights about the future of business in the metaverse by contributors to the Metaverse Industry Report 2022 by GamesPad. The Future of Business in The Metaverse The metaverse economy is expected to reach up to $13 trillion in value by 2030. Many mainstream big-name companies, especially tech giants, have already started exploring and heavily investing in the metaverse, which highlights the potential possibilities businesses have within a broad number of current business sectors. In the research paper, Co-Founder of  GamesPad and BullPerks Constantin Kogan commented: “The importance of the metaverse is twofold. First, its decentralized nature is revolutionary in shifting the power away from a single corporate entity and handing it back to the people. The second is connection. A shared community where anyone has access to be whoever they want to be. This is important because empowered people who feel supported by the community can change the world.” Anastasia Drinevskaya, Cointelegraph Communications CEO & Creative Director, added: “Innovation in technology is the key ingredient in the ways metaverse opportunities will be presented to business leaders. As the metaverse continues to evolve, strategies will become more clear. In a boundless virtual world that allows users to explore and interact, the metaverse will be powered by an independent virtual economy utilizing blockchain and NFTs.” In the report, GamesPad notes that businesses of all kinds can have their share of the metaverse, though they need to develop a metaverse business strategy in the early stages to maximize its impact. Fashion Fashion brands will be playing a crucial role in shaping the emerging stages of the metaverse. Digital self-expression will become the primary way for people to express their personality, mood, and style in the metaverse, which will bring the need for an entirely new sector focused on branded avatar skins and other digital clothing. However, metaverse fashion is not limited to that and embraces more opportunities. Wahid Chammas, Chairman & Co-Founder of Faith Tribe, Co-Owner of Faith Connexion, and Founder & CIO of TyreGate Capital, commented: “Consumers today are demanding immersive experiences, where they can express identity through fashion in both their physical and digital realms. As we like to say at Faith, digital fashion is not limited to clothing for avatars. It’s a growing fashion subculture that includes the digital design and modeling of real-world clothing, the uploading of designs for real and digital clothing onto the blockchain (so these designs can be sold as NFTs) and even digital clothes rendered onto real people.” Moreover, the metaverse serves as a perfect environment for creativity and self-expression for all users, particularly for content creators, artists, and fashion designers. “The creative freedom that comes with digital design is a profound utility for fashion designers and artists of all kinds. Our evolving digital world has changed the ways that the masses interact with fashion brands and clothing in general. Physical garments are no longer the most important element. – said A.Bahadir Yener, Founder of Metawear. – Fashion extends beyond fabric and fashion designers are harnessing the creative liberties of digital design to reignite a spark within consumers to discover their own digital and physical identities. Digital fashion has the potential to be both inspirational and accessible in ways the physical world doesn’t provide.” – he added. E-Commerce Travis Wu, Founder of Highstreet, about e-Commerce opportunities for brands in the metaverse: “Inhabitants of the metaverse already spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on virtual assets, whether its character skins or weapons, gamers understand the emotional payoff of customizing digital avatars. What Web3 does is that it decentralizes these assets from the studio’s game servers and gives true ownership of them to players, allowing them to then be able to resell digital assets to their peers. For brands, this not only creates a brand new market for distribution, but unlocks the fastest growing demographic to their sales” Real estate As the limits of real-world geography fade, virtual real estate encompasses opportunities in digital landscapes, virtual gaming, and entertainment. GamesPad believes investing in a single location in the metaverse has the potential to reach a larger share of customers than most physical locations. Currently, the metaverse’s expansion relies heavily on digital real estate trading and leasing. Eran Elhanani, Co-Founder of  GamesPad and BullPerks, said: “We all know from the traditional real estate world that when supply is limited and demand is high then prices go up as well as it’s all about location, location, location. The same is true for the Metaverse. While there might be multiple digital worlds/Metaverses then just like countries and cities there will be some more successful and more attractive than others and it will be about buying lands in those where it’s also limited.” Gaming Gaming and entertainment platforms will be at the forefront of metaverse development. Players have globally shown a preference for games that offer immersive experiences with 3D graphics and VR-enabled titles, putting the already booming GameFi industry in a unique position to benefit from the metaverse. “Game developers are focusing more on economic incentives within gameplay as the GameFi model is rapidly becoming the most important feature for metaverse gaming projects. Monetizing games is keeping players interested and invested, and decentralized finance (DeFi) is making it all possible. As we see more gaming projects expand features to be more immersive and utilize technology like AR and VR, we will also notice that metaverse ready games will have incentive structures that allow players to earn real-world income.” – Phillip Devine, CEO of CryptoBlades Kingdoms. Entertainment In the past year, we have seen exciting entertainment endeavors such as Snoop Dogg and Deadmau5 hosting full-fledged virtual concerts. GamesPad believes that the metaverse will make concerts and other virtual events limitless and borderless, allowing a global audience to participate and enjoy exhibitions. Brian Hazan, Co-Founder and Chief Revenue Officer at THE HUSL, commented: “Entertainment industry players might have the most lucrative opportunities in the metaverse. This emerging virtual space is garnering immense interest from younger demographics, a social cohort that is the most excited about new types of entertainment. This is why gaming, mass media, and even event management companies are joining the metaverse, trying to create a virtual replica of their real-world services to capitalize on the opportunity and expand their audience reach.” Marketing The metaverse can make digital marketing even more exciting because of the implied fully immersive experiences, allowing companies to engage with customers at a whole new level. Some of the strategies for metaverse marketing include in-metaverse ads, virtual influencers, metaverse events, and metaverse commerce. Dana Kachan, CMO at GamesPad and BullPerks, commented about marketing in the metaverse: “The metaverse is the next big thing in digital marketing. Marketers have always been striving to build more immersive and exciting brand experiences. Today there is likely no better place for this than the metaverse. From virtual showrooms to test drives to online shopping – in the metaverse, all this will acquire a new form and skyrocket customer engagement. Imagine a Ferrari test drive on the virtual streets of Los Angeles, Bangkok, or any other location in the world.” Bottomline The metaverse can help all businesses engage with customers, expand brand awareness, and identify new revenue streams. With the help of Metaverse: Emerging Business Opportunities, you can explore metaverse markets, the opportunities presented by this new concept, as well as strategies for capitalizing on those opportunities. The research paper is written by GamesPad and BullPerks Co-Founders Constantin Kogan and Eran Elhanani. It overviews over 20 metaverse trends, unique statistics collected from around 1,000 respondents, as well as insights by the top industry experts and thought leaders including: Yat Siu (Co-Founder of Animoca Brands) Wahid Chammas (Chairman & Co-Founder of Faith Tribe, Co-Owner of Faith Connexion, and Founder & CIO of TyreGate Capital) Travis Wu (Founder of Highstreet) Brian Hazan (Co-Founder of THE HUSL) Bahadir Yener (Founder of Metawear) Philip Devine (Co-Founder of CryptoBlades Kingdoms) Gal Yosef (3D Artist, CEO of Reflection Studios) Anastasia Drinevskaya (CEO and Creative Director of Cointelegraph Communications) Shawn Mims (American Rapper, Co-Founder of Cre8tor and RecordGram Inc.) Amazon Makes The Cheapest Kindle Even Better WIRED
Amazon Makes The Cheapest Kindle Even Better WIRED
Amazon Makes The Cheapest Kindle Even Better – WIRED https://collincountynewsonline.com/amazon-makes-the-cheapest-kindle-even-better-wired/ The differences between Amazon’s Kindle e-readers used to be stark. The cheapest base model had paltry storage, bitsy battery life, and a slow, low-resolution screen. Meanwhile, the extravagant Kindle Oasis luxuriated in its sleek aluminum chassis, fully adjustable lighting, big battery, and physical buttons for turning pages. But the models have slowly begun to blend together, with the less expensive Kindles adopting premium features previously only found in the Oasis. The mid-tier Paperwhite got some sprucing up in 2021, when Amazon added adjustable lighting and a USB-C port. (It’s still WIRED’s pick for best e-reader.) At last, Amazon is juicing up the base-model Kindle as well. The new Kindle gets an upgraded display—a 300-ppi-resolution screen versus the previous Kindle’s 197 ppi. Storage is doubled to 16 GB. The new Kindle also—finally!—features a USB-C port like the newest Paperwhite models. It charges in as little as two hours over USB-C. Unfortunately, the prices have started to converge too. The new base-model Kindle costs $100, which is 10 bucks more than the previous version. Spend another $20 and you get a version that doesn’t bombard you with ads on the lock screen. If you’re in the market for an e-reader, check out WIRED’s guide to the best Kindles and the best ebook readers overall. Here’s some more news from the world of consumer technology. Alexa Speaks Brand The worst thing about searching for something on Google is all the ads that show up at the top of the page. Well, now Amazon is planning something like that for its Echo smart speakers. In a blog post with the not-at-all-dystopian title “Alexa Can Now Help Brands Answer Customer Questions,” Amazon laid out a new business strategy that will allow brands to provide answers to user questions that might relate to the products the brand wants to sell. Amazon gave an example of asking Alexa how to remove pet hair from the carpet. Such a query could cause a brand-backed response to spring forth, offering to send you links to Amazon pages selling the brand’s products. In Amazon’s brand registry system, sellers will be able to view common user questions and attach their branded answers to them. Amazon says the questions and branded answers will be reviewed by content moderators before they can be used by Alexa. Amazon insists these are not ads and that brands won’t be able to pay to submit answers. The company also says branded answers will be attributed to the brand that answered them, but it didn’t elaborate on what form that disclosure would take. The company plans to test the feature starting in October, then roll it out across the US after that. TikTok Wants to BeReal Every app is trying to be TikTok, but sometimes the viral video-sharing app has to play a bit of catch-up itself. If you are hip and cool (read: young), then surely you know about BeReal. The popular app prompts users with a notification at a random time every day that reads “Time to BeReal.” Users then have two minutes to snap a photo that captures images from both the front and back cameras. The results are quick and candid; the point of catching people unawares is to encourage more “authentic” moments than the carefully staged shots you see on platforms like Instagram.

How To Earn Passive Crypto Income In A Bear Market? Cointelegraph
How To Earn Passive Crypto Income In A Bear Market? Cointelegraph
How To Earn Passive Crypto Income In A Bear Market? – Cointelegraph https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-to-earn-passive-crypto-income-in-a-bear-market-cointelegraph/ The majority of new investors are in the middle of their first crypto winter, during which most digital assets have depreciated by more than 70% from their November 2021 highs. While a bear market is tough for everyone, it can be especially challenging for those who are new to the space and don’t have much experience dealing with market volatility. That said, there are still opportunities to earn passive income during a bear market — crypto traders just have to know where to look. In this article, we will look at how Wall Street traders persevere and what simple things can be done to make money. Is it time to buy more assets? What are some of the easiest ways to generate cash in a recession? Are there any investment techniques that work during bear markets? What assets to invest in while Bitcoin (BTC) is in a bear market in 2022? What is a bear market? In traditional markets, a bear market is described as any time stock prices fall by more than 20% from a previous high. In cryptocurrency, a bear market refers to an extended period of time where prices fall significantly and market confidence plummets. How long do crypto winters last? While there is no set time period, most people agree that a bear market in cryptocurrency lasts for at least three months. The current crypto winter began in November of 2021 and, as of this writing, shows no signs of abating. So, how long will this bear market last? This is impossible to say for certain, but based on past trends, it could take a while. The last bear market in cryptocurrency lasted over two years, from 2017 to late 2020. If the current bear market follows a similar timeline, we might be in for a long winter. More often than not, during a bear market, every asset falls in value with only very brief deviations. Later on, investors spot assets that are selling at bargain prices and purchase them, ending the bear markets for good. Bear markets are defined by low investor confidence and pessimism. During a bear market, investors tend to ignore any positive news and sell rapidly to drive asset prices down. The cryptocurrency market has already seen three bull markets since Bitcoin’s inception in 2009 and is currently experiencing its third bear market, having declined by almost 70% from its all-time high. Can you predict a crypto bear market? Predicting a bear market is nearly impossible, and most investors do not anticipate one until they have lost at least 5% of the value of their investment portfolio. How to survive a crypto bear market? Given the current market conditions of continued volatility and uneasiness about the future, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed as an investor. It can be difficult to make logical decisions or take any required actions when your portfolio is continuously taking a hit. When the crypto market becomes bearish, nearly all assets in the market begin to fall, even if they report positive news or developments. The key to surviving a bear market is to have a long-term vision and focus on the project’s fundamentals rather than its current price. Although bear markets typically result in increased prices, many portfolios that were harmed by bear markets may take longer to recover. Some, on the other hand, never return. A bear market is a good example of how capital preservation is important in making investments. However, as Warren Buffett noted, “you must be greedy when others are fearful” in the long run. As a result, there are advantages to the bear market. There are a number of platforms in the cryptocurrency industry that help earn passive income, which can help investors take advantage of the bear market, as explained in the below sections.  Benefits of a crypto bear market Although a bear market can be discouraging for investors, it actually has some benefits. Here are some of the advantages of a crypto bear market: Buy low, sell high: When the price of something is falling, smart investors know that it’s a great time to acquire. They take advantage of the reduced prices by acquiring assets and selling them when the market rebounds and prices rise again. Although it may be difficult to find assets that have not been impacted by the market crash, there are still some digital assets that are selling at a discount. Investors learn to master their emotions: One of the most important lessons to take away from a bear market is how to manage your emotions while trading. It can be difficult not to panic when the value of assets is dropping, but it is crucial to remember that bear markets are temporary and prices will eventually rebound. Enables disciplined and consistent investors: A bear market separates the long-term, disciplined investors from those who are in it for the quick buck. Those who are able to weather the storm and continue to invest during a bear market are usually the ones who come out ahead in the end. Investors can gauge their risk resistance: A bear market is an opportunity for investors to test their risk tolerance. Those who sell all of their assets during a crash may realize that they are not as comfortable with risk as they thought. On the other hand, those who continue to invest may find that they are more tolerant of risk than they previously thought. Ways to make passive income in a crypto bear market Although it may be difficult to locate digital assets that have not been harmed by the market downturn, there are still a few methods to generate passive income in a bear market. The reverse of the adage is that there are still plenty of possibilities with a 100% Annual percentage rate (APR) and even more. Below are a few methods of generating passive income in a bear market: Staking Bear markets are a reminder of the importance of holding tokens to generate passive income. Staking can be a great way to generate income, as well as increase your position in a project. Staking is the process of locking your coins on a particular platform to gain interest. Most platforms provide two options: flexible staking (withdraw at any time) or fixed staking (where you commit your assets for a set period, like one month or more). Tokens can be staked on centralized platforms such as Binance, Crypto.com, Kucoin or Bybit. In addition to that, there are many decentralized exchanges (DEXs) available such as Uniswap, Balancer and Curve, where investors can provide liquidity and earn a share of the trading fees. Crypto trading Trading cryptocurrency during a bear market can be a good opportunity to buy at a discount and sell when prices rebound. Earning passive trading can be a great way to offset any losses during a bear market. Although finding profitable trades may be more difficult, those who are able to capitalize on market conditions may earn a significant amount of money. How do crypto traders make money in a bear market? Investors can trade cryptocurrencies on a number of different exchanges, including centralized ones like Binance and Kraken or DEXs like Uniswap and dYdX2. There are also a number of social trading platforms, such as eToro and Robinhood, that can help investors get started in the market. Social trading platforms provide a way to learn from other investors and develop strategies for trading during a bear market. Mining Mining is another way to generate passive income in a bear market. Although the rewards may be lower than in a bull market, mining can still be a profitable endeavor. Cryptocurrency miners can either go it alone or join a mining pool. When you solo mine, you’re trying to solve the next block by yourself. Pool mining is when a group of miners work together to find the solution faster and then share rewards based on each person’s hashing power contribution. Affiliate marketing Affiliate marketing is a form of business in which a person promotes a product or service and gets paid if someone buys the item as a result of their advertising. This may be achieved through various platforms, including social media, blogs and email lists. Affiliate marketing in the cryptocurrency space is another way to generate passive income during market downturns. Many projects offer high commission rates and some even pay out rewards in the project’s native token. Airdrops Airdrops have become a popular way to generate passive income in down market conditions. Airdrops are tokens that projects give away for free to promote their project or increase awareness. Investors can join airdrops on websites like Airdrop Alert, CoinMarketCap and Earn Crypto. It’s critical to remain vigilant against fraud since there are several fraudulent airdrops distributed in order to acquire people’s private keys. Only sign up for airdrops from reliable providers and conduct due diligence before giving any personal information. Dollar-cost average One way to make passive income is to dollar-cost average your investments. This means buying a fixed amount of an asset on a regular schedule, regardless of the price. Buying into an asset at different prices can mitigate the risk of buying in at the top and losing all. This approach may be used to invest in initial coin offerings (ICOs), buy altcoins or even acquire Bitcoin. In the long run, the average price of the digital asset will even out, and investors have a good chance of making a profit when the bull market returns. Dollar cost averaging (DCA) offers numerous advantages for investors who use tax-advantaged savings vehicles on a regular basis. Contribution and employer match contributions account for about two-thirds of the amount, while investment profits make up the remaining one-third. This indicates that many 401(k) contributors may quickly replenish their accounts following bear markets. Stablecoin investment strategies Stablecoins are digital assets that are pegged to a stable asset...

If you make a purchase through them, we may receive a small commission (for which we are deeply grateful) at no cost to you. Made with citrus, ginger, turmeric, apple cider vinegar, and omega rich Udo’s Oil 369 Blend from Flora, these immune “shots” are bursting with powerful nutrients that can help support your immune system and act as a digestive aid. Plus, they only take a few minutes to prep! Healthy, delicious, and packed with plant-based nutrients with medicinal qualities, these Ginger Turmeric Omega Immune Shots will nourish your system and help boost your immunity in time for cold and flu season. Bursting with superfood goodness, these healthy “wellness shots” are made with a few simple, but powerful fresh ingredients, including fresh ginger, turmeric, and citrus. Udo’s Oil, a special blend of healthy plant-based oils, adds plant-based omega fatty acids in an optimal ratio to help support the immune system.* Take these shots daily to promote healthy immunity, or double up when you need extra support. Either way, your body will love them. The best part is these wellness shots are incredibly easy to make. For the quickest prep, let your juicer do the work. If you don’t have a juicer, we’ve included a blender/straining method that is more labor intensive but will still get the desired result. Ingredients You’ll Need For the Immune Shots Lemon:  Fresh lemon juice is a rich source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that can help support the immune system and assist in activating immune cells. [1, 2, 3]  The body can’t make vitamin C on its own, so it’s important to get lots of vitamin C-rich fruits and veggies in your daily diet. These immune shots can help! We used half a medium lemon in this recipe, but you can use more if you like. No need to peel your lemon if it’s organic, which also contains beneficial compounds in the oils of the skin and increases the lemony flavor of the shots.  Orange: Also rich in vitamin C, orange adds natural sweetness to these immune shots to balance out the spiciness of the ginger and turmeric and the tanginess of the lemon.  We like using Mandarin oranges for their flavor, but they’re also higher in Vitamin A than regular oranges. [4] Important for healthy immunity, Vitamin A plays an important role in enhancing immune function and regulating immune cell response. [5] Any type of orange variety will do.  Ginger (Fresh Only):  Ginger is a potent immune booster with warming, digestive properties, mostly because of its main active antioxidant-acting compound called gingerol. [6, 7]  Fresh ginger is the best! A 2013 study in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that fresh ginger supported immune and respiratory health, whereas dried ginger had no effect at all. [8] You’ll only need a small 1-inch knob of ginger for this recipe. It doesn’t sound like much, but the flavor of ginger, while slightly sweet, is pungent.  Turmeric: Native to Southeast Asia, this antioxidant-rich superfood is from the same family as ginger and has a warm and spicy flavor. Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful, immune-boosting compound responsible for its bright golden-yellow color.  Referred to as Indian Saffron, turmeric has potent immune and cell-protective properties backed by science and continues to be researched. [9, 10, 11]  We used fresh turmeric for this recipe, which you can find in well-stocked grocery stores or Asian markets. If you can’t source fresh turmeric, dried ground turmeric, unlike ginger, preserves many of its benefits, and may be used instead.  Tip: While incredibly healthy, turmeric stains fingers and anything else it touches. Be sure to use gloves and wipe off surfaces immediately. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother): Made of fermented apple cider, apple cider vinegar contains nourishing vitamins, trace minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids, but it also has organic acids and bioactive compounds that are believed to be responsible for its immune and digestive supportive properties [12]. It also contains gut-friendly probiotics that support gut health and improve immune function. When using apple cider vinegar in food preparations, make sure it says “raw” and “contains the mother” on the label. The ‘mother’ is the cloudy substance inside the jar which is made of proteins, enzymes, gut-friendly‌ bacteria, and immune-supporting compounds as opposed to more processed products. Black Pepper: Black pepper contains a compound called piperine, which research has shown can increase the absorption and bioavailability of curcumin in the body by blocking its breakdown by the liver. One study found that it can enhance the activity of curcumin in the body by up to 2000%! [13, 14]. A pinch is all you need, but if you can’t tolerate pepper, don’t worry. The fat in the oil in this recipe will also help increase absorption. [15] UDO’S OIL 3•6•9 BLEND for Omega Fatty Acids :  Healthy fat can improve the absorption of fat-soluble immune-boosting nutrients and compounds like vitamin A and curcumin in the gut.  Udo’s Oil is a blend of organic flax, sesame, and sunflower seed oils with a rich, nutty, and buttery taste. It’s also a rich source of plant-based essential fatty acids (EFAs) including omega-3s and 6s which are needed for healthy immune function and healthy immune response.* While most of us get plenty of omega 6s in our diet and not nearly enough omega-3 fatty acids, our immunity can suffer. Recent research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids may play an important role in strengthening immune cells and improving immune response. [16, 17] Udo’s Oil contains the perfect 2:1 ratio of omega-3 fatty acids to omega-6 fatty acids for optimal health that you won’t find in other plant-based oils. One tablespoon of Udo’s Oil provides 6 grams of omega-3 fatty acids 3 grams of omega-6 fatty acids 2.5 grams of omega-9 fatty acids.  To learn more about the benefits of Udo’s Oil, read our full review here. Made with all sustainable ingredients, Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend comes in 8.5, 17, and 32-ounce bottles.    Shop Udo’s Oil 369 Blend here. For these shots, start with 1 teaspoon of oil per serving (2 teaspoons total). You may increase as tolerated.  Tools You’ll Need For This Recipe  A Juicer (Blender for alternative method) Cutting board Knife How to Make the Immune Shots Step 1: Prep your fruits and spices – As long as they’re organic, you don’t have to peel the lemon and orange if using an auger juicer. You can skip peeling the ginger and turmeric as well. In fact, the oils in the peels can add a more intense flavor and healthy plant compounds. Simply rinse them well before juicing. Cutting into smaller pieces can help the juicer extract all the nutrients. Step 2: Extract The Juice Juicer Method:  Once you’ve prepped the lemon, orange, ginger, and turmeric, toss them in your juicer. Collect the juice and then get ready to add the rest of the ingredients. Blender Method: Place into your blender with a little water and blend until smooth. Pour into a cheesecloth and squeeze over a bowl to extract all the juice. Wear gloves, as turmeric will stain! You can also place the mixture over a fine-mesh sieve and allow it to drain into a bowl. Expect some pulp with this method. Step 3: Finishing The Immune Shots Whisk in the apple cider vinegar, Udo’s Oil, and black pepper to the juice. This recipe makes about two 2-ounce servings. Divide into two small shot glasses. Adjust for taste! There’s no right or wrong here. Want more spice? Add a little more ginger. More tang? Lemon is the way to go. If you need a touch more sweetness, add more orange or a bit of raw honey. How to Take These Immune Shots Enjoy right away or store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve. To reap the most benefits, drink these shots within 2-3 days as the plant compounds and nutrients will break down. For convenience, you can also make these Immune shots in batches and then freeze them in ice-cube trays. Simply defrost and drink or add to your favorite hot cup of herbal tea anytime you need a boost. Here’s to your health! GET THE RECIPE! Kelly, Lewis Turn In Memorable Finish At Red Dragon Invitational – Evening Observer https://collincountynewsonline.com/kelly-lewis-turn-in-memorable-finish-at-red-dragon-invitational-evening-observer/ BEMUS POINT — Local high school runners descended on Long Point State Park for the Red Dragon Invitational on Saturday morning, and the predominant color displayed by a few of the teams was orange. As they have before, area student-athletes came together to support a cause — this time that of pediatric blood disorders and more specifically Frewsburg sophomore Nolan LeBaron. Runners from Silver Creek/Forestville, Clymer/Sherman/Panama and Jamestown joined LeBaron’s teammates at Frewsburg wearing orange wristbands. “I think the cross country community is amazing. It is a very family-like feel. What’s cool is that we all root for each other,” Frewsburg head coach Sandy Ruhlman said. “Just to see so many teams wear the wristband or just give donations for Nolan … he was a really key part of our team so there was a hole left when he got sick. It’s really amazing to see the community support.” The son of Falconer track and field coach Mike LeBaron and Frewsburg teacher Andrea LeBaron, Nolan was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia — a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow — in early August and has been battling the disease the past two months. The 16-year-old was given promising news last Friday when a bone marrow biopsy and white blood cell count showed his cancer to be in remission. Nolan’s Race, the organization created by friends and family to raise money and show support for the LeBarons, will be hosting a 5K on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Falconer Central School track. Registration will begin at 3 p.m. Nolan’s Race is also accepting donations through PayPal and Venmo. “Cross country teams and their families have reached out and asked what they can do,” Ruhlman said. “It’s just really heart warming and spirit lifting.” Randolph’s Roan Kelly and Southwestern’s Nate Lewis turned in a memorable finish in the boys varsity race Saturday. The two ran with each other through the woods along Chautauqua Lake and when they crossed the line, Kelly was just seven hundredths of a second ahead of his Trojans counterpart with a winning time of 16:22.23. “It’s better competition and an atmosphere that makes you go faster,” Kelly said of the invitational experience. “I’m going to see Nate on Tuesday, too, so that’s going to be another race to push myself.” Lewis led Southwestern to a first-place team finish with 59 points. Other scoring Trojans included: fourth-place Trey Faulk, fifth-place Donavin Brown, 22nd-place Lukas Svenson and 30th-place Jacob Johnson. “We’re just kind of seeing where we fit in right now. We’re getting some times on the board,” Southwestern coach Dan Lewis said. “Hopefully, we’re going to work to improve throughout the season. … I’m definitely pleased after today.” LeBaron’s Frewsburg teammates finished second with 77 points. Scoring Bears included: eighth-place Cody Kent, 10th-place Juvenal Diaz, 11th-place Micah Barber, 12th-place Xander Pitts and 44th-place Jacob Sears. “What I’m most proud of is that they put in a lot of time over the summer. This is something we’ve been talking about and building toward for a couple of years. They’ve really invested their time. The cool thing is that we just have so much fun,” Ruhlman said. “Our team works really well together. They are encouraging and they are all about the team finish. They are going to take turns beating each other.” Jamestown was third with 89 points. “Being from a relatively small area, the kids know each other and we see each other year after year,” Ruhlman said of battling Southwestern and Jamestown. “To be competing with each other and trying to close the gaps or even beat them at times, it gives us motivation.” Southwestern’s Emma Lewis won the girls race in 19:19.49. Williamsville North’s Brier Amerlinck was second and Pioneer’s Brooklyn Lazarz finished third. “I was really impressed. … I think she ran great,” Southwestern head coach Pedro Melendez said of Lewis. “(Invitationals) give the kids a chance to perform better than the league meets. … It gives them a chance against tougher competition.” Allegany-Limestone’s Angelina Napoleon, last year’s Class C state champion, did not run. Clymer/Sherman/Panama won the girls race with 40 points. Scoring runners for the Wolfpack included: seventh-place Tess Flikkema, eighth-place Hannah Schauman, 15th-place Solki Martin-Lacayo, 16th-place Caitlyn Kriner and 17th-place Brooke Warner. “Our main goal is to be a family and succeed,” co-captain Tayden Persons said. “We take it one meet at a time,” Schauman, a co-captain, added. “When we succeed at invitationals it just pumps us up as a team. It’s good momentum for us.” Williamsville North was second with 57 points followed by Maple Grove in third with 78 points. Scoring for the Red Dragons were: 10th-place Allison Bohall, 22nd-place Lily Bohall, 24th-place Lizzie Lai, 26th-place Presley Haines and 37th-place Ellie Brunenavs. “We’ve really been encouraging the girls in practice to stick together, train and push each other,” C/S/P head coach Ray Shrout said. “If you pull up on a teammate, encourage them to go along with you. … At one point, with less than a mile left, Tess Flikkema turned around and hollered at Hannah Schauman to come run with her. … That’s just going to make our team stronger throughout the season.” “I think this is just going to give our girls a lot of confidence for the rest of the season,” C/S/P assistant coach Pam Warner said. ” … We take it race by race, but we do still have those ultimate goals.” BOYS Team Results 1. Colorado Plane Crash: Three People Killed After Midair Collision The Washington Post
Colorado Plane Crash: Three People Killed After Midair Collision – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/colorado-plane-crash-three-people-killed-after-midair-collision-the-washington-post/ Two planes crashed midair in Colorado on Saturday, killing three people, authorities say. Joshua Bonafede, a Boulder County sheriff’s deputy, said two planes collided on Saturday morning. One plane was found about 30 miles northwest of downtown Denver. According to NBC affiliate 9 News, the other plane was found a few blocks away. At about 8:50 a.m. local time, a single-engine Cessna 172 and a second aircraft collided and crashed near Vance Brand Airport in Longmont, a spokesperson with the Federal Aviation Administration told The Washington Post in an email. Two people were aboard the Cessna 172, the FAA spokesperson said. The National Transportation Safety Board said on Twitter that it is investigating a Cessna 172 collision with a plane it identified as a Sonex Xenos in Longmont, Colo. “The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate,” the FAA spokesperson said. “The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates.” The Cessna 172, also known as a Skyhawk, is one of the most popular airplanes in the world. It can seat four and is commonly used in flight instruction. Midair collisions are rare, with fewer than 30 occurring in the United States in a typical year. They almost always involve small private planes or military craft, not commercial jets, and are usually the result of human error such as miscommunication or navigation issues. Under federal aviation regulations, private pilots are required to “see and avoid” other aircraft flying in the space near them, and they must follow takeoff and landing procedures closely. Collisions are more likely in populous, heavily trafficked areas. Mountain View Fire Rescue, which serves the area, confirmed the three deaths and asked people to avoid the Niwot area, northeast of Boulder. Police had closed some roads in the area, Bonafede told The Washington Post. “It’s still very early in the investigation,” Bonafede said, adding that federal investigators were “on their way.” Praveena Somasundaram contributed to this report.

Crossbows Vs. Compound Bows | Sports | Oleantimesherald.com – Olean Times Herald https://collincountynewsonline.com/crossbows-vs-compound-bows-sports-oleantimesherald-com-olean-times-herald/ Today’s bows and crossbows are very different from just 50 years ago. New York is pretty restrictive on its crossbow regulations and this shows in a small degree the conflict existing between compound and crossbow users. But, is there that much difference and is either even close to traditional archery hunting? Wade Robertson New York state has a strong, dedicated lobby of archers who are most decidedly against crossbows, so much so that regulations forbid using one until November of archery season, which seems a little ridiculous. I have a few observations that I hope readers will find interesting — possibly even thought-provoking.

Biden: Putin Using Nuclear, Chermical Weapons Would Lead To “consequential” U.S. Response – Axios https://collincountynewsonline.com/biden-putin-using-nuclear-chermical-weapons-would-lead-to-consequential-u-s-response-axios/ President Biden warned Russian President Vladimir Putin not to use chemical or tactical nuclear weapons in the war against Ukraine or there would be a “consequential” response from the United States. The big picture: The Kremlin last week said that Russia would continue to wage its war in Ukraine until all its military goals have been achieved despite facing a rapidly advancing Ukrainian counter-offensive. In March, a Kremlin spokesperson said that Russia would only use nuclear weapons if there’s a “threat for existence” to the country and not due to the war with Ukraine. Last month, the UN warned that humanity is “one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation” Why it matters: Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine increased tensions between the U.S. and its former Cold War foe — both of which have nuclear weapons, Axios’ Julia Shapero reports. Putin ordered Russia’s nuclear deterrent forces on alert soon after invading Ukraine, citing “aggressive statements” from NATO countries. What they’re saying: “It would change the face of war unlike anything since World War II,” Biden said in an interview with CBS that will air Sunday. “They’ll become more of a pariah in the world than they ever have been. And depending on the extent of what they do will determine what response would occur,” he added.

American tech giant Google is seeding a big update to its Photos app, calling it the biggest update for Memories since the feature’s inception in 2020. According to GSM Arena, Google has added that Memories is very popular, netting more than 3.5 billion views per month. The feature has now been redesigned to be more dynamic. A big focus has been placed on videos and Photos will now preselect snippets of longer videos to show you. Still, images in Memories are now more immersive thanks to an automatic subtle zooming in or out. Also, users can now share a Memory with another Photos user. The option to share a Memory through a Web link and to iOS will be coming soon. Google notes that users can still choose to omit photos of certain people or time periods from their Memories, reported GSM Arena. Another way your Memories will be more dynamic is through Cinematic photos – Google Photos generates a moving, 3D model of your image and it will render full end-to-end videos with Cinematic photos. Further, a much-appreciated feature is the new Collage editor. Users can finally edit their collages with different grids, move photos around, and even choose a background, Google calls it Styles, with several designs set to launch, as per GSM Arena.

College Football Picks Schedule: Predictions Against The Spread Odds For Top 25 Games In Week 3 CBS Sports
College Football Picks, Schedule: Predictions Against The Spread, Odds For Top 25 Games In Week 3 – CBS Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/college-football-picks-schedule-predictions-against-the-spread-odds-for-top-25-games-in-week-3-cbs-sports/ Following the chaos last week that effectively turned the 2022 college football season on its head, top-25 teams who are big favorites in Week 3 will perhaps be a little more cautious Saturday. With two games between ranked opponents on the schedule and a number of top-tier nonconference games to be played, plenty can still shake out before league play begins in earnest to close the month of September. Most notable Saturday is the nightcap as No. 13 Miami visits No. 24 Texas A&M with the Aggies fresh off one of those aforementioned upset losses to Appalachian State. The Hurricanes are looking to flex under first-year coach Mario Cristobal, while Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher is aiming to keep his seat from becoming too hot. Speaking of Cristobal, his former team is featured in that other top 25 showdown as No. 25 Oregon hosts No. 12 BYU. The Cougars are feeling themselves after a huge home win over Baylor, while the Ducks are still aiming to bounce back from a rough showing against Georgia in Week 1.  Also on the slate are No. 6 Oklahoma welcoming rival Nebraska fresh off the Cornhuskers’ firing of coach Scott Frost, newly minted No. 1 Georgia visiting SEC East rival South Carolina and Auburn welcoming a tough nonconference test from No. 22 Penn State in the featured game on CBS. In other words, there will be no shortage of storylines to chew on before Saturday is out. Be sure to stick with CBS Sports throughout the day for college football coverage from the opening kickoff onward. Let’s take a look at our expert picks for the best games in Week 3. Odds via Caesars Sportsbook | All times Eastern No. 6 Oklahoma at Nebraska Noon | Fox, fuboTV (Try for free) — Oklahoma has not faced a Power Five foe under new coach Brent Venables. In fact, its two wins were against teams ranked No. 95 and No. 108 in the CBS Sports 131 Rankings. While Nebraska is struggling, the talent jump — along with a new coaching direction — makes this game slightly trickier than early results would assume. A worse Nebraska team played a better Oklahoma team within seven points last season. With the game being held in Lincoln, Nebraska, don’t expect things to get out of hand. Pick: Nebraska (+11.5) — Shehan Jeyarajah Follow Oklahoma at Nebraska live on CBS Sports. No. 1 Georgia at South Carolina Featured Game | South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Georgia Bulldogs Noon | ESPN, fuboTV (Try for free) — South Carolina’s woes on the offensive line spell disaster in this matchup. The Gamecocks are struggling to protect quarterback Spencer Rattler and haven’t shown much of a rushing attack through two games. Georgia’s defense looks like it has hardly dropped off at all after having five players taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and the Bulldogs may be able to keep South Carolina from reaching double-digits. While coach Kirby Smart is unlikely to run up the score on a respected former assistant, Georgia should cover even if its offense keeps things tame. Prediction: Georgia (-24.5) — David Cobb Follow Georgia at South Carolina live on CBS Sports. No. 22 Penn State at Auburn Featured Game | Auburn Tigers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions 3:30 p.m. | CBS, CBSSports.com, CBS Sports App — While Penn State has the bigger win of the two teams, the Nittany Lions didn’t look great on the road against Purdue. As a result, I’m not ready to trust the Nittany Lions as road favorites against Auburn, even if Auburn hasn’t inspired much confidence. The best units on the field in this matchup will be the defenses, so it’s hard to imagine either team ever manages to pull too far away from the other. That makes Auburn and the points an attractive option. Prediction: Auburn (+3) — Tom Fornelli No. 12 BYU at No. 25 Oregon Featured Game | Oregon Ducks vs. BYU Cougars 3:30 p.m. | Fox, fuboTV (Try for free) — Simply put: BYU is better than Oregon at the vast majority of position groups. Quarterback Jaren Hall flashed his NFL arm in an upset over Baylor last weekend despite missing his top two receiving targets. The offensive and defensive lines have excelled for most of the past three seasons. The secondary played at a high level, while running back Christopher Brooks has slotted in nicely. Conversely, Oregon has gone 1-4 in its last five FBS matchups and been outscored 201-90. With wins over Baylor, USC, Utah and four other Power Five foes in the past year, don’t expect the Cougars to be intimidated by Oregon’s recruiting stars. Prediction: BYU (+3.5) — Jeyarajah UTSA at No. 21 Texas Featured Game | Texas Longhorns vs. UTSA Roadrunners 8 p.m. | Longhorn Network — This is a potential trap game for the Longhorns, but I do think they pull out the win. However, the status of Hudson Card makes me hesitant to take Texas as a 12.5-point favorite. Card is at his best when he is making plays with his legs, and his ankle injury could limit that part of his game. On top of that, Jeff Traylor’s squad has plenty of motivation against one of the Big 12’s flagship institutions. Texas gets the victory, but the Roadrunners cover. Prediction: UTSA (+12.5) — Austin Nivison No. 13 Miami at No. 24 Texas A&M Featured Game | Texas A&M Aggies vs. Miami (FL) Hurricanes 9 p.m. | ESPN, fuboTV (Try for free) — This is going to come down to a battle of quarterbacks, and the winner of that battle is clear. Tyler Van Dyke is more talented, has better protection and more weapons outside than Haynes King. Van Dyke and the Hurricanes offense will set the tempo, which will result in this game being played in the 30s. Texas A&M won’t be able to hang. Multiple mistakes by Texas A&M in the second half will not only give Miami the cover, but a straight up win. Prediction: Miami (+5.5) — Barrett Sallee Which college football picks can you make with confidence in Week 3, and which favorites will go down hard? Visit SportsLine to see which teams will win and cover the spread — all from a proven computer model that has returned almost $3,400 in profit over the past six-plus seasons — and find out.

A Guide To Selecting The Right Vehicle The Manila Times
A Guide To Selecting The Right Vehicle The Manila Times
A Guide To Selecting The Right Vehicle – The Manila Times https://collincountynewsonline.com/a-guide-to-selecting-the-right-vehicle-the-manila-times/ A vehicle is an aspirational item. Aside from taking its passengers from point A to point B, most individuals and families consider a vehicle as the reward of sacrifice, hard work, and, perhaps, years of investing. For those who now have the means to purchase their dream car, here are some tips for finding the most value in your purchase. Conduct a Needs Assessment Before going to the showroom, the prospective car owner should ask “who will use this vehicle” and “where do I intend to take it?” On weekdays in Metro Manila, it is common to see only one or two persons inside a vehicle. Almost all four-wheeled vehicles are able to occupy five persons so the daily commute should not be a problem. However, the car owner should think of the extended family as well. Most Filipino families have extended members and as the country transitions to a new normal, travel to the countryside is back. Should you have nephews, nieces, nanny or dog in the house, it is best to provide an additional seat or two for them. This is where multi-purpose vehicles or small seven-seater SUVs come in. Roads can be a challenge in provinces. While most people now reside at or around urban areas, their work or business may require some to travel to far-flung places. The trip to a construction site may involve cruising through highways and traversing frequently muddy trails. It is true that a 4-wheel drive vehicle costs more but don’t compromise. There are carmakers who now offer entry-level pick-up trucks that have 4-wheel drive. Get the latest news delivered to your inbox Sign up for The Manila Times’ daily newsletters By signing up with an email address, I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Identify the features that you need The more features in a vehicle, the higher its selling price. As a car buyer, ask yourself if these bells and whistles are worth spending a few thousand pesos more over the base, or entry-level, grade. Go for safety in assessing exterior features of a vehicle. Reverse cameras and parking sensors are good to have. These help the driver avoid hitting an obstacle or another car while parking, thus, removing costs for dent and scratch repairs. Fog lamps are both aesthetically-pleasing and helpful. You will need the additional visibility when you travel in dark, isolated roads, or if your area usually rains. If you want to stick to the essentials, forego on the features that enhance the look of the vehicle. More expensive grades offer front, side or rear skirts, a rear spoiler, and a sportier wheel design. Go for comfort and convenience with interior features. A good audio system, with Apple or Android connectivity, removes the stress of being stuck in EDSA traffic. Modern vehicles now have a wireless charger so you can be sure that your smartphone will not die as you leave the car. Expect the kids to be less bored if there are USB ports and less tired if there are sufficient bottle holders for their drinks. One of the reasons for physically visiting multiple brands is to check on the vehicle’s luggage space. There are vehicles within a segment that have a relatively smaller cargo space. A small cargo space is not ideal if you bring a lot of equipment for work, or bags if your family goes on a vacation. Then, there are the operating costs of the vehicle. First and foremost is fuel efficiency. While driving habits and the car’s maintenance contribute to fuel consumption, a car’s engine must be able to perform with less stress as possible. A 1.0-liter car is generally thought of as fuel efficient but this attribute diminishes if it regularly carries 5 adults plus equipment to work. The same applies to 1.3-liter, 7-seater multi-purpose vehicles. These are indeed affordable, but the engine may need to exert more to carry its body, not to mention its passengers and cargo. Don’t forget the after-sales service Enter the front door and a prospective car buyer can see and feel the level of customer service in a dealership. Like buying a policy from an insurance agent, a car purchase is a life-long relationship with the brand and its frontliners. The sale is just the start of that relationship. As you proceed to the service area, take a look at the staff and see if they are approachable, courteous and conduct themselves professionally. When buying a car, the selling and servicing dealer should be near your house or office. This should be paramount over falling in love with the design and value-for-money proposition of a vehicle. It will be a chore to drive 30 kilometers or an hour to take your car for periodic maintenance. When taking a car for maintenance or repair, there are parts that need to be replaced. Brands that are not volume-sellers may have a difficulty in obtaining parts for your vehicle. This will entail waiting and coming back after a few days or weeks. Remember to take time and shop from multiple brands and dealerships to find the right car and the most attractive offer for you. As one who invested for this goal for many years, it is now time to buy your dream car. Marion Evangelista, RFP CTEP CTA is a registered financial planner of RFP Philippines. City Of Flagstaff Announces Minimum Wage For 2023 – Flagstaff Business News https://collincountynewsonline.com/city-of-flagstaff-announces-minimum-wage-for-2023-flagstaff-business-news/ You are here: Home / Business / City of Flagstaff Announces Minimum Wage for 2023 September 17, 2022 By FBN Leave a Comment The minimum wage in the City of Flagstaff will increase to $16.80 beginning on January 1, 2023. On November 8, 2016 the voters of Flagstaff wrote and passed The Minimum Wage Act (“the Act”) as a citizen’s initiative (Proposition 414). The Act, which is codified in Title 15 of the Flagstaff City Code, prescribes that beginning in 2023, the Flagstaff minimum wage shall be increased annually by the increase in the cost of living. Pursuant to the Act, “[t]he increase in the cost of living shall be measured by the percentage increase as of August of the immediately preceding year over the level as of August of the previous year of the consumer price index (all urban consumers, U.S. city average for all items)” (15-01-001-0003(B)). The increase shall be rounded to the nearest $0.05. On September 13, 2022, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the consumer price index (CPI) numbers for August of 2022. The CPI for August 2022 (296.171) was 8.3% greater than for August 2021 (273.567). Accordingly, as of January 1, 2023, the minimum wage in the City of Flagstaff will increase from $15.50 per hour to $16.80 per hour. The Flagstaff minimum wage applies to all employees who work or are expected to work at least 25 hours within the city limits in a single calendar year. For provisions of the Act pertaining to tipped employees, please refer to section 15-01-001-0003(E) of the Flagstaff City Code. The Act is enforced by the Flagstaff Office of Labor Standards. Previously enacted provisions of Title 15 will remain in effect. These include requirements that employers maintain payroll records for a period of 4 years, allow the Office of Labor Standards to review these records to monitor compliance, and do not retaliate in any way against employees for asserting their rights under this law. The discussion and panel was part of the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute’s (HUPTI) first Prostate Cancer and Men’s Health Awareness Fair. “I’m 59 years old and I’ve been screened,” Smith told the packed room. The fair brought in numerous vendors to talk with the men who came out about living a healthy lifestyle. HUPTI also offered free early-detection prostate screenings that attracted dozens soon after the doors opened at 9 a.m. The panel of NFL athletes began at 10. “I think our lending our voices helps to amplify the need for men specifically and African Americans to take ownership of their health,” Smith told News 3. “I think it’s real important and sometimes it gives other men a little bit more encouragement.” Organizer Tiffany Rodgers says bringing in professional athletes to share their stories was crucial for an event that she says proved to be even more popular than expected. “They want to break down these walls we have where we don’t talk and we’re scared to go to the doctor. We can’t do that. We have to go to the doctor, we have to get screened and we have to stick around,” said Rodgers, Marketing Director for HUPTI. According to the Hampton Roads Prostate Health Forum, one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and Black men are twice as likely to die from a low-grade case than any other race. The forum recommends Black men and others considered high-risk for prostate cancer begin annual screenings at 40 years old. Rodgers says she plans to make the Men’s Health Awareness Fair an annual event taking place every September. Copyright 2022 Scripps Media, Inc. All rights reserved. The Sooners took some early blows but scored touchdowns on five of their eight series through the first 30 minutes.  Oklahoma struggled to run the ball against Kent State a week ago, but the Sooners have taken advantage every opportunity against the Cornhuskers. They posted 165 yards and three touchdowns on just 23 first half carries, including a career-long 61-yard scamper by quarterback Dillon Gabriel. The Sooners signal-caller posted 166 yards and a touchdown passing in the first half, while tight end Brayden Willis added a 24-yard scoring pass of his own to Marcus Major on a trick play.  Nebraska was exceptional on its first scripted drive, going 77 yards in fewer than two minutes thanks to a masterful performance from Casey Thompson. Since then, the Cornhuskers offense has been a disaster. Nebraska has just 66 total yards since the first drive, brought down by four sacks allowed by a porous offensive line. Freshman running back Ajay Allen showed some promise with 40 yards rushing, but the Cornhuskers are still at just 3.4 sack-adjusted yards per carry.  The Sooners defense has been exceptional with eight tackles for loss and four sacks in the half. Two of the TFLs came from defensive end Ethan Downs, while Downs, Jonah Laulu, Jalen Redmond and DaShaun White each have a sack. White was ejected for targeting in the second quarter, but freshman Jaren Kanak has not allowed the effort to subside since the ejection.  Keep it locked here with CBS Sports for live scores, updates, analysis and highlights from Oklahoma at Nebraska. White led the Sooners with six tackles, a sack and a pass breakup early in the game, but speared Casey Thompson with the crown of his helmet. To make matters worse, Oklahoma’s defense was about to get off the field on third-and-15, but Nebraska now gets new life with 4:12 left in the second quarter.  Pinned ‘Huskers get rare break 2Q: Oklahoma 28, Nebraska 7 Nebraska finally got its first stop in four drives after Oklahoma kicker Zach Schmit whiffed on a 39-yard field goal. The defense stiffened on the edge of the Nebraska red zone as Ty Robinson stopped Dillon Gabriel at the line to forced fourth-and-10. Now, Nebraska desperately need to respond before halftime and get back into the game.  Pinned Pinned Pinned Trickeration in Lincoln 2Q: Oklahoma 28, Nebraska 7 Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby is emptying the clip on his former rival. The Sooners just ran a pass-back to tight end Brayden Willis, who threw it to a wide open Marcus Major for a 24-yard touchdown. Now, the tight end Willis has more passing yards than Nebraska has rushing yards. Dubaiverse will be made in partnership with local companies including the digital brokerage firm GCEX, Khaleej Times, and Dubai crypto regulator, VARA. The model of “Dubaiverse” will be similar to The Sandbox’s Hong Kong “Mega City” model. In April, it announced its second-phase expansion with a series of partnerships with Hong Kong’s flagship Ocean Park, Regal Hotels Group, luxury media group Tatler Asia, venture capital firm Brinc, Web3 venture MADWorld. The Mega City model will also include the tourism, hospitality, culture, media, education, banking, investment, music and entertainment industries of Hong Kong. In accordance with the Hong Kong metaverse model, the Dubai themed metaverse will also include a series of local partnerships with film, music, entertainment, acting, finance, real estate and gaming industries of Dubai. The Animoca Brands also shared the information that the first buyer of a plot in Dubaiverse was the crypto regulator of Dubai, Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). Additionally, the Managing Director of GCEX, Mehtap Onder, stated that “the digital brokerage firm will also enter Dubaiverse to offer education on virtual assets.” Khaleej Times will be the local news partner of “Dubaiverse”, which is following the similar partnership like Hong Kong’s “Mega City” and the South China Morning Post. Sohail Nawaz, Digital Director at Khaleej Times, stated that “As publishers, business models are being challenged around the world, and new business models are entering this space, it’s a really important strategic move for us.” Other Metaverse Plannings in The Global Cities The Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of The Sandbox, Sebastien Borget, said that “the other urban-themed metaverses are planned in Singapore, Korea and Turkey.” In addition, DBS bank last week launched its metaverse experience on The Sandbox, which will team up with The Sandbox to build “SingaporeVerse,” aimed to bring the Singapore culture to life in the metaverse. Foretales Assessment: Canal A Good Impact On A Tabletop Deckbuilding From Hand Of Destinys – Game News 24 – Game News 24 https://collincountynewsonline.com/foretales-assessment-canal-a-good-impact-on-a-tabletop-deckbuilding-from-hand-of-destinys-game-news-24-game-news-24/ Foretales assessment This card sport is powered by sturdy puzzles, very nice characters and huge ethical struggles to contemplate. Alkemi developer. Writer: The Village is very affordable! Don’t hurry here: September 15. On: Home window on. From: ‘Death, GOG’, Epic Games Store, etc. All things considered to be worth 15/18/18. Hand of the Dead was a singular factor. At the first glance, it was a popular deckbuilding sport where you found yourself purchasing and playing through like-like dungeons and choosing to play cards with his mysterious Broker. At the opposite of all, it was also an action-packed hack and slasher, bringing the awesome combat section to existence in essentially 3-D battle arenas. It hasn’t found it surprising to be there since it came. That kind of combat gadget did not go to a stop. Fortunately, now we have got the Foretales infinitely extra intimiding, a new eracard by Alkemi, and a rattling over the sheerity of this hand-to-be special. The fact that it won’t ever challenge into the nation-states of 3-D seems to be erring extra toward the Inscryption college of tabletop battle encounters is that there’s no real problem – it is a hoistful journey of writing, and with playing cards and playing cards by myself. In contrast to that with Hand Of Destiny, this isn’t a single and accomplished affair. It is a great attempt, with a few paths to take on, and you’ll have to face a few unforeseen challenges while you try to break a string of absurd dreams threatening to become anthropomorphic international. You won’t be able to combat all of them right through the unmarried playthrough, however its expensive alternatives most effective make its overarching tale much more gripping. It’s a thief of the shoebill, who steals much gold. As a gift from a richly-smoothed little John-esque archer pal, Leo, that was a tiger, he’s got to steal a mysterious lyre from his home. Their prize holds up unpublished secrets and techniques as well as any proper journey stories. More particularly, the option to look into the longer term, for Volepain should decide, and which lives he will save within the procedure. With the most effective method, the most effective way of selecting a whole set of turns, or missions, is the right way of expressing the ethic crisis, thus taking its path a farside. That most effective makes them all a lot riper for 2d playthroughs; Foretales will get the perfect quantity of mileage out of its easy deckbuilding components. You spot, the entire sport is performed in tabletop table, with the playing cards at the desk and with all other players on your present project. To develop through its more than a few areas, players should get from their birthday party to acquire positive play cards, so they could be able to produce results that advance the tale. As a thief for example Volepain has some pickpocket playing cards, which may help him carry meals and cash from his unspecting townsfolk’s handbags, which he can easily enjoy. Since Leos have heightened sense of sensation, in the meantime, method he can often sniff out indigenous tavern or berry bush from neighbouring streets and wooded pathways to improve his adventure. The power of these consumable useful resources playing cards to place different opportunities will possibly open up different spaces and the cycle starts again. Eventually missions incorporate all the tabletop into the story puzzle, making artful use of everything and its parts for a nice effect. Likewise, there will likely be lots of events when the playing cards on your deck wouldn’t impact any of the playing cards this day at the table, and could just get you to the next location, a map from the neatly named and eternally looping location. At any time, the playing cards are arising on the pile and that often the game is still not possible. When doing so, one would wish to make it to the desk with a seemingly unlimited number of points at the desk. But then in order to try to find the other pubs or holler, which then would be likened to the competition from the pirates, you could easily hire the players. Stand up a chairParticular for the design of the tabletop itself, with its lights, sound and color palette constantly moving to replicate the surroundings depicted in the playing cards inside you. Upon being caught out of the ordinary, the sun sat in to the darkness of the daffodilation with it. The sound of a rainstorm is untrue and he’s able to reach an axle, and in some dark dark spaces, it would take another ear, that’s a solitary light and a dry shadow into the window and thawt it in the dark, thanks caves and sewage. It’s vital for Foretales to give you almost all the data you want to make wise, logical decisions. As you view them, the impact of each card is clearly telegraphed prematurely and so you’ll see what is on your discard pile and last birthday party decks to find out whether to buy and sell up some cards on your hand at a price. Look at the number of bandits, watchmen and other neer-do-wells you have at any given time. You will even be prepared for the opportunity of a run-in. The whole thing is extra – not like location play cards, birthday party play cards do not refill themselves robotically. Also, remember to relax each and every time by extra – when you forget extra of them again in play. Requiremently, although as long as they are and now, the stress of being quiet, then becomes riskier through the years, hard increasingly possessed, but instead instead do it too unstoppable, and it’s a very good time to sport. It is very difficult – and since it is the only way to see the best card for the process and to act if you need the right tool, it requires much effort. Although all projects restricted choice of relaxation issues, I discovered that there had been enormous space for experimentation and preparation or even to make an effort out of those problems. Previous this week, I spent an additional hour trying to determine cause of a selected puzzle, called the moth monument, and also ensure it was on a proper facet of the table when it came to the mail. While I was here for about all of my time away, I finally finished the task with some serious concern. This is the project display that is represented via playing cards that turn over and become to be had. Since there’s one crisis you have not decided which time should you like to move on to the next adventure. That said, there have been times when Foretales generally is a little softer at communicating with avid gamers when they are completely unequipped to handle positive missions. There may be a touch button that helped me to remark when I attempted multiple instances, so there used to be a example if I had a library to learn an ebook, but I wasn’t really to think what card games I should play to do that by giving me a touch button. Nothing in my deck perceived to be the best impact, and neither of my consumables perceived to both of them. I believe I wanted an unedited personality, but to be honest, I can’t change my mind so I continue to stay a bit spherical & spherical until I resigned to the menu menu to take some extra time to put on something else. While it focuses on all the options, let alone just a word of hope for the long term, I don’t think there will be nations of plausibility if Volepain additionally realized that, hiya, no of the truth is I don’t exactly understand the whole truth as to that purpose, and the reason is that I couldn’t comprehend and say what a simple reason is I was to lose my grasp on the point where I had had no idea exactly what it was and who was the correct person to have Despite that, it isn’t gratifying having to desert something you don’t know the solution, so it was my room where Foretales made an uncomfortable look at the face. Boss encounters ceaselessly have their very own amusing puzzle twist as well. Excluded this guy. He was a proper previous turd. In other places, I had a huge impact, and i began to appreciate the variety of selections in its mission, even if many levels began to recycling the similar sites you visited earlier. Even though, these Herbalist gardens could actually glance the same way that you skept into to scouse borrow this fateful lyre from here again, if it were actually right again, then you will probably become a cultist as well, rather than simply fending off guards and exploiting these old farmers to take the landfront. You might even like the torch play cards to remove the dark glow from the darkened mine as you search for a creature who would possibly just hang the important thing to the plague-like Beastilence ravaging the land. While you get around the cheeky bugger as part of the overall location card cycle, he will scarp again into its folds despite all the changes in the card that occupied the desk previously were illuminated. Until then, I would never forget the concept of one of two cards whilst still keeping an eye on the remaining one, but the entire taking part in box is part of the puzzle and one thing an even earlier mining project, looking at the performance of Volepains father on the lookout for his dad failed. Although the difference between foretales and foretales is that, its turning-based actions emphasize craft and international relationships as much as sheer brute power. There are positive, a slicer, a roller and a chucker in at them, and a spoonful of kebabs, for them to make a mistake, and then an iron, enumerate, and apologies like that to disorient them, however success is most enjoyable at every time you are not shedding a single drop of blood through the procedure. In Foretales there are a few techniques to attain the ...

When the Ethereum Merge finally concluded on September 15th, investors didn’t see the massive market shift they were anticipating. However, one significant outcome of this event was that meme-inspired cryptocurrency Dogecoin has now become the second-largest Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus-based network, trailing only the Bitcoin network in terms of market value. According to ETHPoW’s official Twitter account, Dogecoin is likely to compete with ETHPoW, which is the Ethereum PoW hard fork chain that is expected to keep mining. Bitcoin is still the most valuable PoW blockchain with a market capitalization of $380 billion, based on data by TradingView. Next to Bitcoin and Dogecoin, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, and Monero have the third, fourth, and fifth largest PoW blockchains, respectively. Image: Coinsfera Bagging 10th Place In Top Crypto List Dogecoin was launched in 2013 and has since risen to the top 10 cryptocurrency rankings. The crypto is currently trading at $0.060888, a decrease of 4.8% over the last seven days. The joke coin is now ranked 10th on Coingecko’s list of the leading cryptocurrencies. In the previous 24 hours, BTC was trading at $19,709, down 2.5%, while ETH was trading at $1,474, falling 9.7%. As with Bitcoin, DOGE is mined using proof of work, which requires miners to use powerful computers and a significant amount of energy to solve complex mathematical problems in order to validate transactions and earn DOGE. Regulatory authorities have recently upped their monitoring of network validators as many nations advocate for a total ban on crypto mining activities since they place a significant strain on national grids. Dogecoin PoS Transition In The Drawing Boards Approximately 14.4 million DOGE are mined daily, according to the cryptocurrency tracking platform Currency.com, adding to the coin’s supply of 132.6 billion. In contrast to Bitcoin, which has a restricted supply of 21 million, Dogecoin has no supply limit. Meanwhile, the Dogecoin Foundation has been contemplating a transition of Dogecoin to a proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who is also an advisor to the foundation, suggested the change in September of last year. In recent years, the dog-inspired crypto has gained an odd champion in the world’s richest person, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk, who has tweeted about the coin as far back as 2019 and on multiple times caused the price of Dogecoin to surge. Idaho Science And Technology Policy Fellowship Places Scientists In State Agencies – Local News 8 – LocalNews8.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/idaho-science-and-technology-policy-fellowship-places-scientists-in-state-agencies-local-news-8-localnews8-com/ MOSCOW, Idaho (KIFI) — An expanded fellowship program across three Idaho universities is placing two scientists in Idaho state government agencies to bring scientific expertise to policymaking. The Idaho Science and Technology Policy Fellowship (ISTPF) is a nonpartisan program that places scientists, social scientists and engineers in state government to learn firsthand about policymaking while using their knowledge and skills to address pressing challenges facing Idaho. The fellowship, in its third year, is a partnership between Boise State University, Idaho State University and University of Idaho. U of I’s McClure Center for Public Policy Research is the program lead. New fellows Anna Briggs, Ph.D. and Sarah Maher, Ph.D. started their fellowships in late August. Briggs will spend her fellowship year with Idaho’s Legislative Services Offices, and Maher with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. This is the first year that the ISTPF has placed a fellow in Legislative Services Offices. Previously, fellows have been placed with the Governor’s Office of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Governor’s Office of Species Conservation, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and Idaho STEM Action Center. “The Idaho Science and Technology Policy Fellowship provides a rare experience for Idaho’s scientists, social scientists and engineers to engage with policymaking and policy implementation in Idaho,” Idaho State University President Kevin Satterlee said. “In return, Idaho’s government benefits from the expertise and creativity these fellows bring. The expansion of this program provides an opportunity for the fellows to devote their considerable talents to address timely issues facing our state.” Briggs earned a doctorate in entomology, and a master’s and bachelor’s in animal and veterinary science, from University of Idaho. Her research focused on vector diseases, studying biological factors that affect malaria parasite transmission. Maher is an interdisciplinary researcher with expertise in magnetic studies and data analysis. She holds a doctorate in earth sciences from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, a master’s in geology and geophysics from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a bachelor’s in physics and astronomy from the University of Victoria. “The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is proud to collaborate with the ISTPF program in providing exciting opportunities for fellows interested in the intersection of policy and science,” said Mary Anne Nelson, Surface and Wastewater Division Administrator at DEQ, a former host office which holds a seat on the ISTPF advisory board. “The program has recruited strong candidates who’ve provided valuable insight and assistance to our department as well as gained experience in policy evaluation and implementation. DEQ looks forward to many continued years of collaboration.” The ISTPF has raised over $1 million to launch and grow the program. Sources of financial support for the third year include the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Idaho National Laboratory on behalf of Battelle Energy Alliance, Idaho STEM Action Center, Micron Foundation, POWER Engineers, Boise State University, Idaho State University, University of Idaho and individual donors.

Longtime Attorney And UNLV Professor Finds Joy As A Sculptor Las Vegas Review-Journal
Longtime Attorney And UNLV Professor Finds Joy As A Sculptor Las Vegas Review-Journal
Longtime Attorney And UNLV Professor Finds Joy As A Sculptor – Las Vegas Review-Journal https://collincountynewsonline.com/longtime-attorney-and-unlv-professor-finds-joy-as-a-sculptor-las-vegas-review-journal/ UNLV professor Anthony Cabot has authored or co-authored 12 books on gaming law during his 37-year career as an attorney. But the legal expert, who holds the title of distinguished fellow of gaming law at the William S. Boyd School of Law, has surprised even his closest friends with his ability to create sculptures. “I always had an interest in art, but I never really thought of myself as someone who would produce art,” Cabot said in an interview at his Summerlin home, adorned with sculptures he has created. It stands to reason that his desire to create art pieces is frequently inspired by the industry he has been a part of for his entire career. A steel and stained-glass sculpture of a pair of dice was one of the first pieces his Facebook friends got to see. “Tumbling Dice” is about 33 inches tall and 18 inches wide and depicts a pair of dice attached corner-to-corner. Another steel and glass sculpture, “Pocket Queens,” is a 26-by-32-inch piece featuring the image of a queen of hearts and a queen of diamonds. He posts pictures of the sculptures on social media and waits for the reaction. It’s almost always affirming. “People seem to enjoy it,” Cabot said. “I get good reactions. I use Facebook as a barometer of whether or not what I’m doing is in the right direction or not.” An art expert contacted by the Review-Journal also had high marks, when shown images of Cabot’s pieces. “They are thoughtful re-creations of familiar objects associated with the gaming industry,” said UNLV’s Director of Galleries Jerry Schefcik. “They look to be well-crafted in a medium not typically used for three-dimensional objects. In a manner of thinking, stained glass is generally associated with houses of worship. If you wanted to stretch that thought a bit, gaming, in some regard, could be considered a worshipful activity in that much attention, thought, time, sacrifice and resources are given to it,” he said. “It is an activity that sustains life, especially in this state. So a connection between stained glass as religious markers and gaming is not so far fetched. Overall, I would call these pieces craft objects more so than art objects.” Not for sale Many of Cabot’s friends have wanted to buy his creations, but he has no desire to sell them. “I’ll get 40 or 50 different comments about the work,” Cabot said. “People seem to like it. Shockingly to me, people have wanted to buy the pieces, which I tell them, ‘They aren’t for sale.’ I’m not doing this to make a living. I do it because I enjoy doing it. My job now is to be a professor, but I enjoy doing these things as a hobby.” Becoming a professor helped create the path toward being an artist. After Cabot received his Juris Doctor from Arizona State University, he joined former Gov. Grant Sawyer at Las Vegas’ Lionel Sawyer Collins law firm in 1981, one of the first firms to develop a gaming law practice in the city. Working beside longtime mentor and friend Robert Faiss, Cabot carved his own niche in gaming law. He said as a student he wrote his own study guides, which led him to become a prolific writer of gaming law texts just as the concept of internet gambling was coming into its own in the late 1990s and early 2000s. After about 25 years with Lionel Sawyer Collins, Cabot left to join the firm Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie. He was there 12 years — working 56-hour weeks and raising a family. When he left in 2018 he took advantage of the perks of being a college professor. Vacation started art journey “The first thing I did was take a long vacation,” he said. “I never took more than a week and a half or two weeks off in 37 years.” He went to Europe with his wife, daughter and her boyfriend, an accomplished artist, and discovered a sculpting class with an artist in Barcelona. “One of the things about Europe is that in a lot of places (they) offer experiences,” he said.” So my daughter’s boyfriend and I decided to try a sculpting experience where you actually create a sculpture.” He was hooked. “It turned out to be a lot of fun. My sculpture wasn’t very good, but it was a first shot,” Cabot said. He talked with his brother in Cleveland and decided to buy a welder, setting up shop in his garage. Then, it was a matter of coming up with ideas and executing them. In addition to steel and stained glass, Cabot experimented with magnets. He tinkered with embedding magnets in a circular frame then placing other magnets on the ends of a chain. The artistic effect is that the magnetic forces attract each other and the chain appears to be suspended in midair. When in Cleveland, Cabot came across a person at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who collected key cards from the hotels at which he stayed. Cabot had his own collection of key cards during his travels to foreign gaming jurisdictions. “Something’s going to happen with these, but I don’t know what just yet,” he said. He eventually was inspired to create a piece in the shape of a keyhole with the dozens of key cards he had collected, locking the cards in under epoxy. ‘Two Guitars’ Cabot was able to get better and better at creating his steel and stained glass art. He created stained glass floral bouquets, cactus sculptures and even blended magnets. He’s also used stained glass and epoxy with a new element, wood, in his most recent piece “Two Guitars,” inspired by Pablo Picasso’s “Guitar” sculptures, first made of cardboard then later with sheet metal. One of his art career highlights was being named the winner of a magazine art contest by Arizona Attorney magazine in May 2021. Cabot says he finds inspiration in viewing the work of Picasso and French-artist Patrice Merot, surfing through Pinterest or just taking a walk through a casino. “It’s kind of weird because I’ll go for a long time without having an idea,” he said. “Then all of a sudden, I’ll see something and go, ‘That’s interesting.’ ” Some of his ideas show off his sense of humor. In one of his bathrooms, he displays “Lawyers Going to Work,” a metal piece showing shark fins emerging from an epoxy surface. But ask Cabot about his favorite piece and he comes back to “Pocket Queens.” “‘Queens’ was a three-month project and I put around 80 hours into it,” he said. “My glass cutting isn’t all that good. I went through a lot of broken glass before I got all of those pieces the way I wanted them to be. The nice thing about a lot of these pieces is that they took a long time, but they taught me a lot of skills and they taught me how to cut glass and weld and do epoxy boards and other techniques.” Contact Richard N. TEXAS HISTORY MINUTE: The Roots Of The Gainesville Hangings Weatherford Democrat
TEXAS HISTORY MINUTE: The Roots Of The Gainesville Hangings Weatherford Democrat
TEXAS HISTORY MINUTE: The Roots Of The Gainesville Hangings – Weatherford Democrat https://collincountynewsonline.com/texas-history-minute-the-roots-of-the-gainesville-hangings-weatherford-democrat/ It was a cool morning in Gainesville on Oct. 4, 1862. A hushed silence fell as witnesses gazed at the man on a lonely tree. They saw the rope tighten and the man fall to his death. He was accused of treason, but there was no evidence that the crime had even occurred. Six more were hanged that day on the same charges. It was the beginning of 42 such deaths in October 1862 that would haunt Cooke County for years afterward. And it was the largest mass hanging in American History. The roots of the Gainesville Hangings stretched back to secession. In the chaotic push for disunion in early 1861, the counties along the Red River voted heavily against secession, including Cooke, Grayson, Collin, Lamar and Red River. Once the statewide vote pulled Texas from the Union, most of the remaining Unionists across the state resigned themselves to the new political reality and became silent on the issue. Gainesville was a small community of only a few hundred people at the time, and less than 10% of county residents even owned slaves. In April 1862, with the Confederacy facing manpower shortages and a frustrating lack of progress on the battlefield, a draft law was passed. Under the law, all able-bodied southern men between the ages of 18 and 35 were declared members of the military for three years. The only exceptions would be for teachers with 20 or more students, legislators, men who were willing to pay $500 to be exempted, and slaveholders who owned 20 or more slaves. Upset that men of means could exempt themselves from the fighting, a petition of 30 Cooke County men protested the exemption of slaveholders. As the months progressed, more men concerned with the draft, the security of the community, and the direction of the Confederacy began meeting periodically into a peace society. The aim of the group was never specific and only sought to peacefully discuss their grievances. As one southern city after another fell in 1862, a number of North Texans believed there area would be struck next. In addition, troops who had been fighting Native American tribes nearby had been pulled back east to fight Union forces. Panic bloomed and rumors ran wild, ranging from an imminent attack by Kansas abolitionists or an uprising of Unionists. At the end of September, after one alleged spy to these peace society meetings told officials that an uprising was imminent, Gen. William Hudson ordered the arrest of any man who had not reported for the draft. On October 1, Col. James Bourland, a former state senator, arrested 150 men in the area. They were all charged with insurrection or treason and none were slaveholders. Col. William Young, a Cooke County resident, former U. S. Marshal, and slaveholder, organized a citizen’s court — a 12-man jury of mostly slaveholders, hand-picked by Young, to hear the cases and decide guilt or innocence on a majority vote instead of a unanimous vote. Seven men were quickly hanged in Gainesville over the course of a week with barely a trial. A mob gathered to demand all be hanged, but dozens were acquitted when the jury decided that only a two-thirds vote would convict. With pressures mounting, jurors unleashed a wave of 14 more convictions, all men being hanged over the next two days. Young was then murdered, though the culprits were never found. When the jury reconvened, several members refused to appear, only to be replaced with hardliners determined to find guilt no matter what. Twenty-one more men were convicted on only the flimsiest of evidence. They were all hanged except for two men shot trying to escape. By October 20, it was over. The Peace Parties existed in several Confederate states as a number of Unionists held out against secession and others counseled against a war they knew would only bring disaster. As these groups were uncovered, they were arrested and charged with treason. And in those cases, they were usually given a choice: face trial or join the Confederate army. Most of those captured chose the latter. The North Carolina Peace Party became a powerful force in that state’s politics in the latter years of the Civil War and actively protected deserters seeking refuge in the mountains. In Arkansas, for example, many members of the Arkansas Peace Society, a couple of dozen peace supporters were captured in mid-1862. Many of them, mostly in the mountainous northern Ozark region, left the state to join Unionist forces in Missouri rather than fight for the Confederacy. While many Texas politicians and newspapers praised the hangings, others met the news with unease or anger. Confederate President Jefferson Davis fired Gen. Paul Hebert, the military commander for Texas, for improper use of martial law in response. After the hanging of Nathaniel Clark, his son, James, deserted his Confederate unit and joined the Union Army in protest. Several North Texas men fighting in other theaters of the Confederacy similarly threatened a mass desertion or even an assault on Gainesville in retaliation. Gainesville itself has struggled with the memory of the events. Many of the survivors of the families involved moved away from the area in the years after the Civil War. A federal effort for a historical marker was made by a Massachusetts congressman in 1916 but failed. Court records were lost in the 1920s. The State of Texas placed a marker in 1964, but the entire episode continued to be downplayed by many in the area. Interest in the incident grew in the 1990s, pushed by descendants of hanging victims and historian Richard McCaslin’s 1994 book on the incident, Tainted Breeze. In 2014, the city completed a memorial to those who died on those bloody days in 1862. Dr. Ken Bridges is a writer, historian and native Texan. He can be reached by email: drkenbridges@gmail.com.
